That was really nice to listen to!
An absolute breath of fresh air. Really nice!
I very much enjoyed Goldfrapp’s Felt Mountain. This had a different feel but if anything I enjoyed it more! Just an really excellent album that was a pleasure to hear.
She's one to pick songs for my playlist. Check the lyrics for below. 5/5 A&E Eat yourself. Some People Monster Love Little Bird (listen to it again).

Based on other reviews, I was expecting a dreary, almost ambient affair, but Seventh Tree really surprised me. It’s a gorgeous sounding, often folky affair with often great lyrics often full of bits of great observation. It may have been enhanced by the setting. I listened to this on a walk along a windy beach front, checking the windows of the shops and hotels for help wanted signs. I’ve recently moved house, and am looking for a job, and so the melancholy existentialism fit my mood and the setting perfectly. But I’m otherwise a sucker for this sort of depressing dreamy Folk Pop, I think I’d have enjoyed this regardless of my circumstances. I will 100% come back to this, so I’m tempted to give it a five, cos I’m sure I’ll fall more in love with it. Screw it, listening to Caravan Girl again clinched it for me
Wonderful album I would have never found on my own. Reflective and poignant, chill but meaningful. Great album
outstanding
Awesome album, I thought this was great, it really surprised me. The kind of albums I’m doing this challenge to find! The first track was just absolutely incredible and set the tone for the whole thing.
As heart warming lo-fi goes, its one of the best. Tight too
Nice and calm, just the way I like it
Used to listen to this album regularly. Excited to get back into it. 5/5
Astonishingly good. From earthy pagan psychedelia to glacial disco via pure pop. I don't know how they did it but they did. Outstanding.
Love this sound, so beautiful and varied and great
9/10 wonderful production absolutely loved the creativity here
Ahh, so dreamy. Fave tracks, Little Bird, A&E, Cologne Cerrone Houdini, and Caravan Girl
Seven out of five trees agree, this is Gold(frapp)
beautiful
Beautiful album, played this on repeat when it came out, and I was delighted to see it appear for me today. A detour from the previous two synth pop albums, and an expansion of the sound. If you like this, try 2017's Tales Of Us.
I think I really enjoyed this sort of folksy 2000s stuff. I know that this was a departure, but I would hazard a guess that it was a departure in the correct direction.
Oh boy. They're so much fun.
Why was this so good I really liked it
Amazing!
Should’ve listen to it a long time ago
Great album!
beautiful!
Smooth sound. Pleasantly surprised.
I did not expect this gorgeous melodic treat. I loved this album. Added, with pleasure.
Bra greier, dette blir med videre.
Beautiful album. Sat listening on a soggy February day and it took me to a warm sunny summer's afternoon.
That was pretty dang enjoyable. Didn’t know what to expect from the album cover, but thought I’d be getting folk. I didn’t know I’d get some electronic / folk / whatever in the hell blend that worked rather nicely. I’ve never heard of this artist before. Pairs well with a cruise into town to the local Menards. Light to mid 4
Soooothing, very sweet. Nice. Like I felt guilty because it was so syrupy.
Pleasant Sunday morning music outside, accompanied by squawking seagulls. Dipped back in later, indoors, and I realized that this could easily have been recorded last week; these days, folky electronic music is just called music. 3.5
Another sunny day record. Pure vibe, essence of Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins in there. I don't really understand why a record that is so unlike their other records would be included, but it was nice.
Super sweet
Omg! “Drew” (not this album) was my introduction - on the drive through Banff to Jasper. I don’t know this album so I’m v much looking forward to it. I love this Every song is a vibe wow Little Bird has Kate Bush energy Happiness! Caravan Girl! Lovely drive to Brooklyn with these two.
Very nostalgic
This was different and fresh
Pretty ok.
I enjoy the electro-folk elements more than the dancier parts. I’ve never been a huge fan of Goldfrapp, but this one has a nice range of styles (Bowie-esque, Sharon Van Etten confessionals, dream pop, etc).
Enjoyed this one! It's all good music from start to finish. Not fully my type of music for it to be 5 star banger but its good nonetheless
Some pretty stuff here, though I fear it's likely to be largely forgettable for me. I'm rounding up this rating based solely on the joy I got watching the video for "Happiness." :-)
I have always blown a little hot and cold with Goldfrapp as the music and vocals are good but I have been left a little empty by it and it feels like something else should be there. This more folky album isn’t lacking in anything. It is great end to end and not a bad track on it.

Pretty and pleasant! nice 4 stars for me.
This was a pleasant surprise. "Little Bird" was like "Norwegian Wood" with electronic soundscape enhancements morphing into "Tomorrow Never Knows." That set the tone for the album and the rest of the album did not disappoint. 4 stars
Ok
Didn't really know much about Goldfrapp other than tge big single. So this was a very pleasant surprise, quite enjoyable. It's a nice blend of folk and electronic, and the vocals are so light and warm. It all pairs nicely together. It doesn't blend genres too heavily I feel, definitely has more of a folk aspect. But I think it carries its tone well and overall leaves a pleasant taste in your mouth. Will say tho, towards the last couple songs it does feel like it begins to lack as much effort as the rest of the album. Doesn't work as well there. Fav Track: Clowns
Enjoyed this enough that I probably will listen to it again.
Easy alt rock sort of vibe.
2026.05.24-27
Much slower and more ethereal than some of their other albums, but it's still a nice listen.
3.5
Lovely work
Cozy :)
This was quite nice. Definitely needed to be in the mood for it, which luckily I was.
I enjoyed this more than the other Goldfrapp record we did, very dreamy and you can hear its influence in a lot of more modern stuff.
I originally listened to the wrong album (Felt Mountain) and then listened to this straight after. I definitely prefer this. Lush is the word that springs to mind. Vocals, instrumentation, and production.
Very much like the name of the artist, it was gold. Felt the shine of happiness all throughout and truly was a blessing to my ears
The second time Goldfrapp has appeared for me on this list. A little surprising. It's nice music, sure – but "most important 1001 albums of all time" nice? Hmm. Hard to judge, considering it was released less than 20 years ago. Though it clearly belongs here more than the horrifically bad Heaux Tales (2021). Which, yes, somehow made the list. Dimery’s mind works in mysterious ways. Gorgeous strings in the opener, Clowns. Coupled with the gentle, arpeggiated acoustic guitar, the air is one of peace, serenity, calm hopefulness. For the vocals, Goldfrapp chooses this vulnerable sort of mumbling that I’m having trouble comparing to anyone else. I would happily listen to her singing like this for the entire 41 minutes, though. The return to a huskier alto-range vocal in Little Bird is definitely a downgrade, though I will give a special mention to the great harmonies in the “July-ly-ly” lyric. Solid basswork, too, especially in the instrumental breakdown near the end. Happiness leads with some solid chords and a mysterious melody, coupled with peculiar choice of instrumentation (a hard-to-place honking, and a high synth, and a recorder). And don’t forget the explosive breakdown at the end. Eat Yourself is the first song that acts as a reprise to the breathtaking Clowns. I’d describe the two in much the same way. The fact that not every song copies this formula (despite it obviously capturing the peak of Goldfrapp’s output) means that this duo really knows how to compose an album, rather than just a long collection of songs. Nice to hear a piano ballad in Some People, with the soft, understated drums adding just a subtle rhythmic flare. Half of my admiration for the track Cologne Cerrone Houdini comes from the fact that Goldfrapp sings it with blinding conviction, to the point where it sounds like a completely natural phrase. The other half comes from the various dreamy-yet-contrasting “sections”. It sounds like there’s a Mellotron, or one of its close relatives, somewhere in the mix. At the end of the album, Monster Love acts as the clichéd low-energy album finale that, while pretty, isn’t particularly memorable. Judging by streaming numbers, most people seem to agree. 4/5 Key tracks: Clowns, Eat Yourself, Cologne Cerrone Houdini
'Only clowns would play w/ those balloons.' Electronic folk, & the magic of the British Isles, Goldfrapp is 1/3 Joan Baez, 1/3 Kate Bush, & 1/3 Cocteau Twins. That's wispy business, but these gossamer tunes take flight w/ just the right amount of softness that I have a good time listening to the record. 'We'll be swimming in the sea / Of wisdom & serenity.' Unlike the Cocteau Twins, this group often flaunts lyrics you can actually understand, which is not always a good thing: odd clichés seem to come out of nowhere. +, tho not as egregiously, Alison has a bit of that Beth Gibbons faux cabaret thing going on. Beauty, however fleeting that may be, ends up saving the album from itself. So go ahead, listen to it, lean into your craving for the beautiful.
What a blast from the past. Have always enjoyed this album. 3.5/5
Rate: 8/10.
Interesting mix of electronica, folk and pop. It was chill and relaxing for the most part. Enjoyable but not outstanding. Caravan Girl was my favourite track on first listen.
I really enjoyed this. And after the week I had it hits just right. Liked it better than the previous one we were dealt, and it does a really good job of combining so many styles into a pretty genre-defying sound. Good stuff. Very dreamy at times à la Cocteau Twins. Will definitely revisit.
Best Olsen Twin's album ever.
An artist I'd definitely return to listen to. This was quite nice and sounded very good as someone not familar with folk electronic music.
Тягучий, но не такой сумрачный и сонный как первый. Понравился немного меньше.
Great music for a rainy day and drinking coffee with your hands in your sweater sleeves.
A&E is still the best track, generally a great album you can get lost in.
Loved the opening track, immediately drew me in. Some of the more synth pop stuff wasn’t quite to the level of the folk opener but I really liked this and will reward on re listens
Much more introspective and soft than I was expecting and it, frankly, hit the spot. Really solid album that just cements the fact that this is a really great group that I need to do more work on.
Dreamy, atmospheric pop. Pleasant to listen to, but also has a bit of an edge to it. Happiness is a standout track for me, like a mix of The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Portishead.
Quite enjoyed. I should listen to more goldfrapp
I like the vibe of this one!
Actually enjoyed their sound a lot. Her voice is very unique too. 3.5/5.
Love their sound, very chill and alluring
i liiiiike it
Did not like as much as their first album, but highly enjoyable. It seems as if they were going away from their earlier electronica sound and more towards folk rockl
Gorgeous!
This was much better than anticipated. Some of the songs started slow but picked up well by the middle to where I enjoyed most of the tracks. Even when the songs were relatively simple, things blended really well. Liked a lot of this. Not sure I can even draw a parallel to anyone else. Different, but excellent.
Very nice listening. Another for my dinner party rotation.
Nice easy listening when you have the pleasure of a little me/alone time. Driving, hiking, sailing, biking or just relaxing
Intresting album, it's a kinda a joint between 2000 and 2010 music
Pop-rock avec une voix féminine, très sympa !
Sympa et très doux mais peut être un peu répétitif
Love Goldfrapp Beautiful album. 4
Abwechslungsreiche Pop/Rock-Musik. Angenehme Stimme. 4/5
ich han irgendwie positivi erinnerige as erste vo ihne uf dere liste? und de erst song do isch sehr coool. erinneret much bitz a melody gardot afoch d melodie vom refrain wo sie kei text singt. little bird isch au seeehr geil. sie singt suuper und d drums und die komische synths fitzed inee. ich has chli z wenig aktiv chöne lose aber das isch uuuhuere guet gsi. glaub nöd es füfi aber fast.
Cool electronic music with feminine folkness
I enjoyed this album a lot. Not nearly as much as I enjoyed Felt Mountain. There's something about Goldfrapp that just tickles me.
Nice
really liked much of this, electronic dreamscape vibes, reminiscent of cocteau twins with velvetier vocals. tbc i am rounding UP from a 3.5
Seventh Tree I was really surprised by how great this was. I wasn’t keen on Felt Mountain at all, and although I like the synth pop of their previous two albums I wasn’t necessarily expecting such a low key, pared back album of folk and downtempo electronica. The golden hour light of the album cover is reflected in the analogue warmth of the sound, with strings, bass and guitars interlaced with subtle, atmospheric synths and sampled drums and percussion, creating a dreamy, hazy soundscape. Clowns is rather lovely for a song about fake tits, with a superb string arrangement, and I love the burbly, bubbling synth on Little Bird, as it builds into a superb psychedelic-dance conclusion, recalling Strawberry Fields with the drums and bass. Happiness feels like it could have been an electro-synth pop banger on Black Cherry or Supernature, but here it feels more whimsical and baroque, and it works really well. Road to Somewhere has another great string arrangement, and is a nice track, if maybe not as compelling as some of the others. Eat Yourself feels a bit Pepper/MMT/White Album in its slightly creepy childlike atmosphere, and I love the swelling strings of Some People, even if it does feel slightly Radio 2 in places. A&E is another great folktronica track, picked guitars, strings and synths working brilliantly together as it builds. Cologne Cerrone Houdini, along with Little Bird is probably the stand out track, yet more superb strings and an ethereal vocal melody, carried along by some lovely bass and guitar, feeling like slightly more sophisticated Morcheeba. Caravan is rare uptempo moment, with a nice Belle and Sebastian feel, and a rhythmic, gurgling synth. Monster Love closes things on a suitably low key and sun dappled bit of vaguely creepy folk. This is right on the border of 4 and 5, a great album of shimmering, hazy folk-synth-psychedelic-electronica, but I think I’ll settle on the highest of 4s, and will look forward to listening again. 🌳🌳🌳🌳 Playlist submission: Cologne Cerrone Houdini
This was really good, incredible voice and varied production. Really worked for me, not quite 5 stars but solid 4.
I've listened to the first three Goldfrapp albums myself before listening to this album and I am unsure if that was the best choice. I was disappointed with Supernature, and so I did not have much drive to exploring Goldfrapps discography just yet. But as this list tends to do, it pushed me to listen to this album that I wouldn't have listened to for another five-ten years, and all I can say is wow! I was super super wrong, I have been missing out of Goldfrapps best album so far. Felt Mountain is still amazing but this album IS AMAZING. I do however understand the low scores people give this, I think if this isn't your type of music already, or have some background in this type of electronic-folk-pop, then this album is very grating. But if you don't care then I think there is so much to enjoy with this album. Highlights are Clowns, Little Bird, Happiness, Road to Somewhere, Eat Yourself, Cologne Cerrone Houdini. I think Caravan Girl and Monster Love are admittedly pretty cheesy, but otherwise pretty enjoyable. I think what took me by surprised is how much they went away of the sweeping synthensizers of Goldfrapp past and ushered in a vocal melody and orchestra arrangements that add very well to the limited or at very least toned down display of electronics within the album. This album is a album that you kinda just keep on repeat over and over again until you kinda just know it all by memory. Right now I really really like this album and will be interested to see how much I still like it in the future
Really good. Ethereal. Pretty.
Hole for Sheryl Crow fans, this was a great new find
Good, distinctive, genre-defining but over-rated.
Rather enjoyable. Enough to give it 4 stars? Do you know what, yes, I think repeated listening would be welcome and rewarding. Lovely.
"Seventh Tree" is the fourth studio album by English electronic music duo Goldfrapp. Folktronica, ambient, downtempo and dream pop are the Wiki-listed genres. The album took inspiration from paganism and several English books and was a "sensual counterpoint to the glitterball glamor of their previous album "Supernature." The album was self-produced by core members Alison Goldfrapp (vocals) and Will Gregory (keyboards). 20 additional musicians contributed including two choirs and a large string section. Commercially, the album reached #2 on the UK charts and #48 on the US Billboard 200, and, critically, had mostly positive reviews, being their most acclaimed album since their debut. "Clowns" opens in the album. Very subdued with Alison's folk-like soprano vocals. Acoustic guitar and strings. It's dreamy. A comment on physique artificiality and plastic surgery. They get a Beatle-esque, bouncy melody and beat going in "Happiness." Layered synths and horns. Echoing, layered vocals too. A bit of pyschedelia. very catchy song. The first single released was "A &E." A pumping synth and acoustic guitar. Soft vocals. The drums comes in and the pace picks up. A nice song with some deeper lyrics on loneliness and isolation. The most straight-forward rockin' song is "Caravan Girl." A rock beat. Spiraling synths. More layered vocals. Music builds and great instrumental arrangements. The music on this album can be dreamy, Beatles-esque pop and delicate. Alison's vocals are varied, layered, whispering at times and showed a wide range. Lots of instruments with synths, horns and strings but never busy. Great arrangements and production too. I hadn't heard this album for awhile and at first, thought some of songs dragged. Another listen really showed little details that made mostly all these songs worthy. The ones mentioned in this write-up are exceptional. A very good album and recommended to check out especially if you haven't heard them before.
I remember coming out to LA in Feb 2008 and seeing the poster for this album everywhere and feeling like a dummy because I'd never heard of this group and wasn't clear which Olsen twin that was on the cover. I pretty much forgot about them until now. And you know what? IT'S PRETTY GOOD.
I went in with no expectations, not knowing anything about this band, and was pleasantly surprised! Some really nice art pop stuff with lush acoustic guitar and strings.
It’s beautiful, though idk what she’s singing most of the time. And it’s quite bland to appear on this list.
While America was turning out smegma like Kings of Leon, this came out of the UK. Too bad it never crossed my radar earlier. Nice ambient grooves, though by definition, we can't label this genre/style "must-hear". It subliminally enhances whatever takes the foreground of your attention while it plays.
Very solid
Liked this one.
Very pretty music, lush instrumentation and whispery delicate vocals paint a very serene and contemplative record based on a dream that Goldfrapp had at one point. There's a few highlights, the abstract "Clowns" that opens up the record is neat and sets the expectations well. "Happiness" and "Caravan Girl" are the two most catchy songs while "A&E" has a faint nostalgic hue to it that enchants me. Overall though, the album can't help but feel a little bit like dreamy window dressing, and rarely grabs my attention in a way that makes me stop and go "wow". She's definitely done better before, but this one isn't bad. Just a tad plain sometimes.
A bit on the soft side, but overall I enjoyed.
For an artist typically known for their electronic/dance music, this is a surprisingly beautiful and well-executed departure into a slower, more acoustic sound. Goldfrapp's voice is a little overproduced for my taste, and leans a little too hard into odd pronunciations at times, but is always smooth and controlled in a way that compliments each track. Some parts of the backing tracks feel a little dated, but are often combined with really beautiful melodies and harmonies that make up for it. Overall, I think it's a good inclusion on the list as I haven't heard many albums like this and I'd like to check out their other albums.
This wasn't quite John Grant good, but it was nonetheless surprisingly (to me) good. Some of the songs are a tad slick and pop-y for my taste, but there are some excellent songs on here. I'd rank it a 3.8 to 4.2, so going with the 4.
Enjoyed the listen, recognised the big hits on the album. Calming and brings back memories.
Pretty acoustic and chill. It's a good album. It's modern and kind of older music at the same time, which I kinda like about the album.
this one is honestly kinda cool, a mixture of folk music and electronic music. it's whimsical and sounds like tapping into the deepest memories you have. this album makes me feel like i'm floating. there's quite a number of tracks here that i found myself getting almost hypnotized listening to. sometimes the tracks are a little uninteresting, but between all the almost average bits and bobs, some of the stuff here is genuinely gorgeous. certainly an artist i wouldn't mind listening to again.
I was NOT expecting to like this album but was very pleasantly surprised! It was very girlypop meets alternative. I had never heard of Goldfrapp before but the sound of the songs on this album were very interesting and I enjoyed it a lot!
I quite liked this one, a great combination of beautiful and bizarre. Great discovery.
Very lovely, surprised I hadn't heard it before
It was calm, it was lush, I liked it
I bought a Goldfrapp album purely for 'Ooh La La' back in 2005 and didn't remember anything beyond that track. So I figured this would probably be similar funky electronica with a sprinkling of sexy vocals. I owe them an apology for underestimation. This is simply fantastic stuff. I've played it through multiple times over the week and decided I'll be buying it when I can find it. This album is a lot more mellow and dreamy than Supernature (yeah, I felt I owed it a replay after 20 years of sitting ignored on my iPod...) but equally groovy and actually a lot more cohesive and tight as an album. Apparently, they wrote this about a dream, or set of dreams and it retells the slightly surreal, ethereal story through its 10 sultry, richly produced and hook-laden tracks. It's sent me down the Goldfrapp rabbit hole and made me seriously consider this for a 5. I'm erring on the strong side of a 4 for now but I'll definitely be coming back to it for further consideration over the next few weeks. Further proof that in my old age I'm realising how much more I appreciate a good female voice than I did 20 or even 10 years ago.
The album started slow but by the end I was really enjoying the extra energy of the songs
Cool mellow
Great voice on her and great album
I love the hazy morning feel to this one. This album has a lot of folk and electronic elements, which is not a sound I'm not familiar with (when combined) what so ever, but it sounds great. The singing in combination with the acoustic instruments sound like something from the 60s. Highlight Song/s: "Happiness", "Some People" and "Cologne Cerrane Houdini"
Was a fun album, first time listening to this artist and I enjoyed it.
I enjoyed that
I like this, but I like Air and Sea Change by Beck. And Portishead. Basically sad, sappy, rainy day music.
This one was enjoyable. A little more my style of music then some of the others.
Really nice! Never heard of Gladfrapp until now, glad I’ve become acquainted with their quite stunning style. Beautiful vocals, love timbre and layering, nice storytelling. It’s good!
LOVE LOVE LOVE
Et virkelig fint og ret hyggeligt album. Et godt bud på en rolig søndag.
Like it
First thing I thought when this album landed in the random selector this morning was if Goldfrapp’s 1st album Felt Mountain appears in the 1001 list.(haven’t checked yet). After all Felt Mountain is a cold stone FIVE all day long for me & as much as I liked Goldfrapp as they went slightly less atmospheric, & more “disco dancy” I have to say were no longer a must listen. I don't think I’ve heard this album before, but it was a bold gutsy gear shift for them to dish this out after commercial success & I like it as it returns to the more subtleness that they had in their early days. Alison’s voice for me is one of the most sensual voices of the last few decades.
This album has a very contemplative sound, something you have to stop, listen to, and feel everything that's happening. It has a sonic emptiness (I believe intentional) which is exactly the space the listener needs to be in. It's not my type of music, but what fascinated me most was seeing this sonic aesthetic, so characteristic of the 60s and 70s, mixed with the radio-friendly production characteristic of the 2000s, you know, that sonic glitter that the songs of the 2000s had when they played on the radio... I'm giving it 4 stars. My favorite song: Cologne Cerrone Houdini
Goldfrapp made each album distinct and this one took a pastoral turn with acoustic guitars, somewhat reminiscent of St Etienne's Tiger Bay, but with a Wicker Man twist. This wasn't unwelcome and led to some of their prettiest tunes and most accessible moment like Happiness.
Very pretty, quite relaxing
Slaps, high 4
Entranced in psychedelia and acoustic ambiance, it's a slow-paced but beautiful album. Some of the songs can suffer from being a little directionless and staying in one place. It's a beautiful place, but the songs could be bettered by going somewhere. I love the melodies and harmonies.
This was pretty and lovely, it reminded me of something my mom would play for me on her iPod to help me fall asleep in the 2000s
Easy listening, but interesting enough to go back for more. Vocals reminiscent of Cocteau Twins.
Good
This was a beautiful album that seems like a surprising departure from their more dancey popular album. Good on them mixing it up.
great album! not up on my top favorites but the sound is very immersive and interesting… added to my listen list!
Soft soft rock
Incredibly pretty
(86/100)
A cool album made better by a backstory.
Good album, not a new favorite or anything, but it's good
very good album, cool vibes
I came in with low expectations to be honest. I usually am not one for Electronic pop as it was called and the reviews did not seem to be crazy high but I dug this. Easy to listen to good songwriting. I could see myself listening to this again. 8/10
This might be one of the best albums I’ve never heard of from the list. Beautiful and dreamy electronica pop and it’s such a vibe with the Cocteau Twins style vocals :)
I don’t know if I have ever said this but this album was medicinal. Maybe it was just the day(…and the next…okay, the month) that I listened to it but man I needed it. I thought the band name was bad, but then I read it was Alison’s last name so I am sorry for the thought. Her voice is so pure and diaphanous. I know they are an electronic pop group but this felt like a classic folk album wrapped in a religious experience of reconciliation and self reflection (Wikipedia used the term Folktronica, which is cleaver). Key songs were all of them but A&E touched my soul and Cologne Cereone Houdini took me on a journey reminiscent of my youthful day listening to ONJ’s Magic. I don’t know if this is classic level, but damn I liked this album.
such a pleasant surprise! listened on a walk around dusk on the first truly cold day of the year after a weekend trip to attend a wedding and this felt like exactly the right album for the moment really beautiful album with fascinating production and arrangements, great balance of folk and electronic instruments, never too sweet or too cynical, and just very cool melodies and progressions definitely worth the listen
I was ready to say that this album came to a crawl at the ending but "Caravan Girl" knocked those words right out of me! Completely unaware of Goldfrapp before this. I really liked "Happiness" and expect this album to be one that really grows on me over time. Might check out their upcoming "Supernature" album though I have no idea how they've evolved since.
has pirate hat
Very good chill
Started slow but really picked up by the end
Goldfrapp This album starts with Clowns…an A+ way to express the pressure of being a woman and society’s bizarre obsession with ‘Titties that live on and on and on and on’. It sounds wistfully romantic but surprise, it’s about plastic surgery. High five to that skill! ‘Happiness’ feels like an invitation to join a cult. And honestly? If she started one, maybe I would join. I love her blending of electronic and folky elements into a surreal delivery. It’s whimsical and funny but addresses some very real stuffs! Seeing Goldfrapp live at the Hollywood Bowl was one of the top concerts I’ve been to. The sound and her voice was better than the album, which is a feat. Truly an incredible performance.
Surprisingly good. Had never heard of her before.
If this album were a painting — okay, let's be honest, it wouldn't end up in the Louvre — but I'd hang it in my house. Every time I walk past it in the hallway, I'll nod to myself and say, "hmm, isn't that a nice painting?" And then I would go to the kitchen and look for snacks.
Goldfrapp is unclassifiable, and still anything they do feels like exactly what they should be doing. I really enjoyed this album when it came out, and I am thankful for the opportunity to listen again after a long time away. Some truly wonderful songs on this album.
Something I hadn’t heard before that I will listen to again. 7.0
Dreamy beautifulness; more of this please. Perhaps not life changing, but tasted like a slice of autumnal heaven, and the concessions to maximilism clearly dragging it away from whisper pop.
Really enjoyed this dreamy album
Well done soft rock with good vocals
Good
this is a slower album with a less focus on the instrumentals in my opinion and her voice is the instrument in a lot of the cases of these songs. melodic and I like some of the hooks. I can't say none of the songs left a lasting impression on me however, but that has to do more with where I am than the album I believe. I'm too anxious for a slow album. three and a half out of five
I really liked her voice. The first song especially was a favorite. A lot of the album felt pretty same-y but not bad at all
Breathy ethereal vocals under a storytelling narrative of dream-like escapades. Mellow musical audio, but keep the beat from being too slow.
Other than associating them with electronic music, I know almost nothing about Goldfrapp. That made the opening track a real curveball, until I read that this album was a departure from what they'd done before. This is lovely and enjoyable, and "A&E" is downright great. Alison Goldfrapp's voice is incredible. I'll dig into their other stuff now.
# Playlist Track - Caravan Girl # Notes - Good, albeit a bit too-slow listen. There are shining moments here and there, but overall it's more of a gloomy vibe that just won't jive with every mood. - I did enjoy the transition to 'Caravan Girl' very much, but that left me wanting a bit more variety in the album.
I bounced off Felt Mountain hard tbh. And I had put this one off because I didn’t expect “more folksy goldfrappe album” to be my thing but I was pleasantly surprised
Gold trap Seventh Tree was a good folk album Goldfrapp has a beautiful voice added a few tracks to the playlist im making
Yes, this was excellent. Really otherworldly and a little bit trance inducing. It's just the right balance of acoustic and electronica and the vocals are dreamy. It's very slight, which occasionally means it loses your attention, but still a lovely bit of business. To pay it an extremely big compliment, it sounds like Belle and Sebastian in places, especially Caravan Girl, which would fit on Write About Love nicely.
Förvånansvärt bra, kommer förmodligen återkomma.
I thought this was a pretty good album from Goldfrapp. I wasn’t expecting a folktronica record, but I definitely prefer this over her more club oriented electro sound. It has the charm of late 60s psychedelic folk, with lush, pastoral English countryside vibes, layered in with electronic textures that gives it a more ambient pop edge.
Hat meine Erwartungen übertroffen. Erinnert irgendwie an andere Künstlerinnen, ohne sie zu kopieren an Stellen. Cool. 3 1/2 aber ich runde auf.
Very nice.
Soft yet powerful. And absolutely gorgeous album from start to finish. Arrangements are magic, her vocals are sublime. Even with this albums sound being a departure from the bigger danciblee sound they were honing, seventh tree is a trip worth taking over and over again. Favorites include "little birds" "eat yourself" "A&E" 4.5🌟
2000-2010 is an underrated era! Gold indeed
Nice! Now a fan.
Didn't know what I'd be getting here but was pleasantly surprised I guess.
I liked this more than Felt Mountain.
I like a bit of Goldfrapp
Fun and interesting, but maybe a little repetitive
Dreamy, ethereal, nice background
Never got into Goldfrapp before, but after spending time with this album I now want to listen to more of her music. Very pleasantly surprised by this one.
I was not previously familiar with this artist and when I saw electronic as the genre I was none too excited. But it was certainly better than I expected. 3.5/5 #157

This is probably the first pop album that I liked. I can sence a ton of psychodelia here, melodies and vocals are soothing. Favourite song: Little Bird. Loved the first part of album more
GOSTEI E me surpreendi muito positivamente
the biggest cult indoctrination vibes on a lowkey pop album this side of the beach boys' Friends. some lyrics like those on Happiness almost literalize this, but even without those, theres something kind of freaky about how little this is vying for your deliberate attention...like its trying to sneak something past you, or seep into your subconscious while u dont notice. the subtle colors that are here are very naturey and mythical...and occasionally something does totally grab my brain as an extremely beautiful pop song. seemingly designed to be slight, but clearly very artful, and for all that ive said its certainly never boring
A second surprisingly great record from Goldfrapp on this list! Delicious Beatleque production and sound touches on this without sounding necessarily anachronistic for its time. Great songs, if a little samey throughout, but it's a great same!
It’s got a honey-dipped quality, with one foot planted in the past, evoking traditional English folk and ‘60s pop and film soundtracks, and another in the future, with trip-hop, electronica and dance elements. Alison Goldfrapp’s voice is majestic. This is the second Goldfrapp release we’ve reviewed, and I’m wondering how the hell I’m only now hearing them.
The British version of St. Vincent? A talented artist who mixes it up enough to be consistently interesting.
interesting. i’ve never heard any of the songs. the first one was unintelligible for me but i liked it the most. felt like nothing i’d really heard from popular music.
Maybe a 5, I was in a good mood.

I very much enjoyed this. Simpsons: No
Extremely pleasant.
Beautiful vocals. Clowns and Happiness are lovely tracks. Goldfrapp were one of the first bands I saw live and at my very first Glastonbury in 2004. Pre this album, but they still hold some significance for me. I also had my first proper snog watching them too, so there's a special place for this group in my heart!
I'd heard their earlier stuff and didn't think much about it. This is pretty interesting, and I think it's going in my regular playlist.
It’s ok.. was not really paying much attention but nothing too bad. And overall it’s a pleasant listen. I enjoyed it, very peaceful. I was booking my tickets to Hawaii, and I had never paid so much on flight tickets. But the album gave me the confidence to press confirm……thank you. I’ll try remembering this moment.
Really enjoyed this. Ethical, relaxing and not boring.
Sind echt voll schöne Songs drauf
It's cute, but really only a few songs stick out, but the rest is still alright. It's what I imagine a fairy tale forest to sound kinda like
this one is so cute. perfect summer album for sitting inside writing uni papers.
Really enjoyed this, haven’t heard any other Goldfrapp, but I found this album to be fantastic.
Lovely. Very strong Minnie Riperton influence
Beste låt: Little Bird
That was a beautiful surprise! Thought this would be electro-pop but it was much more chilled. Great voice and selection of songs. Only one that induced hitting the skip button. Standout tracks ‘Cologne Cerrone Houdini’ and ‘Little Bird’. A great find thanks to ‘The List!’
7/10 I know and enjoy their electronic stuff but had no idea this folky pop album existed. Very nice, good vibes. Kind of washes over you a little, doesn’t always set the pulse racing, so not a full 5. Best: Caravan Girl
Surprisingly enjoyable. I was not familiar with them at all.
I had only vaguely heard of this band... what a shame. I really enjoyed this atmospheric album. The singer has a beautiful, interesting voice (this carries the album really) and the album is soothing. Instrumentation is simple but effective.
I gotta say, I did not expect such a layered, complex record from the group that was responsible for providing the soundtrack to every dance club scene in 2000s movies.
I like this style of synthy sung music. I find it relaxing. This is a pretty great piece of that genre.
Quite a nice album, definitely not what I expected. Mood music. Clowns and A&E stood out the most, but the rest did kind of blend together. I think more distinction between the tracks was needed - I didn't enjoy the songs per se, I enjoyed different fragments.
Really surprised. I liked this a lot
Not really familiar with her and wasn't sure what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised. Really liked this. Good songwriting with a somewhat ethereal sound. The last two songs -- Caravan Girl and Monster Love -- were the standouts.
Never heard of this duo before but this was really good! Sounds very 60s influenced but modern in production. I’d listen again for sure to form a stronger opinion.
Never heard it before, and no stand out tracks. But I like it, and won't mind listening again.
Beautiful music that i enjoy! But dont know how much i will revist.
3.5/5
I really like Goldfrapp, it's creative and chill and I like the energy. I just wish she was easier to understand. Rating: 4
I liked it, she had a nice haunting voice and it was different but enjoyable
This album felt like a throwback to sunny pop from the 60’s and 70’s. I enjoyed this record immensely.
Sometimes I really like an album and it’s hard to articulate exactly why. This was one of those. It just felt real and heartfelt and lovely.
I really liked this
Damn, now I know what "folktronica" sounds like, I guess.
Immaculate vibes throughout this album. The smooth singing, the range of instruments in different songs. It feels perfect having playing on a lazy warm day. The band is totally new for me but definitely something I will listen to again.
When I started this album, it felt like a nice and relaxing album, but to a fault. The vocals were neat and airy while the music itself was calming. However, I felt it was going to just stay stagnant for the whole duration and the whole album would be one-note and bland. However, as the album went on, it started to click with me. It felt less boring as more of the electronic and pop elements snuck in. By the time Caravan Girl came on (amazing song by the way), I was pretty much sold. I wouldn’t say that it blew me away and left me awestruck, but it rose past my low expectations. Chill, but not aggressively mellow. I dig it. Favorite track: Caravan Girl Other hits: Happiness, Road to Somewhere, A&E, Cologne Cerrone Houdini, Some People
The guitar work is really peaceful and the vocals are phenomenal. The orchestral accompaniment also does a great job of adding to the arrangement without over stepping it's place. The effects thrown in are interesting and add depth to the songs without being distracting. I think there is beauty in simplicity and this is a great example of that. The drums on Road to Somewhere felt a bit unnecessary and didn't fit in my opinion. I think the song would have been better without the drums, or at least a very simplified version of them.
Good
This was not what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed this! Very 2000s indie, which will always have a soft spot in my heart. It sounds like a lot of music that I listened to in high school. I enjoyed the building and flowing songs on this album, I didn't love the electronic pop songs as much. But overall I really liked this!
I liked. Would re listen
Liked this a lot.
I like this. Listened to a but from some of their newer albums which i didnt like as much, they got kore elctronic/poppy i feel? but i like this soft alt
If I didn’t already have a female singer guilty pleasure (clue - the biggest star of the 2020’s) Goldfrapp might achieve that accolade. I made a mental note some years ago, probably as a result of hearing one of the tracks on this album, that I should investigate Goldfrapp later. Unfortunately never got around to it until a few months ago when I took a punt on one of her albums (Ohh La La) which I bought cheap from a charity shop. I didn’t like this as it was too dance oriented, but no damage done financially but it did make me wonder how that seed was planted in my brain years ago. Now thanks to the 1001 God’s serving up this album today, my musical relationship with Goldfrapp is now realised. What a surprisingly lovely album this is. Having no knowledge of her I had to resort to Wiki who describes this album as a more laid back ambient album (which I like) rather than her usual dance electronic music (which I don’t). Certainly moved me to buy the album on Music Magpie (£1.99 a bargain) The album cover is intriguing and looks like a still of Keira Knightley in Pirates of the Caribbean which was all the rage when this album was released. Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate - but could be this album! 4/5 11/4/25
Truly gorgeous ! Kate Bush is all over this album
I enjoyed the album. Some of the songs are a bit too much alike, but overall the album kept my interest with each track.
I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I kinda like this album. So very sultry and sweet. Maybe it was this lovely afternoon on the porch, watching Turkey Buzzards floating in the warm gentle breeze above the bluff over the river. Two beautiful foxes approach thru the tall grass, tentative in their search for seed under the bird feeders. They watch me as I watch them. Deciding that I'm no threat, nor fleet on my feet, they relax and settle in to munch what they can find. Two tan siblings, almost identical. Seventh Tree plays quietly to my foxes in the lawn. A fine afternoon.
Love the beatles influence coning througj
I liked this a lot more than Felt Mountain. I liked the rock-folkiness of this a lot more than the chanteuse vibes of the last one. Overall a nice listen with a lot of bright spots.
I've listened to them a bit but mostly their more dancey stuff. This is a really cool change of pace. I love the use of acoustic instruments. Folktronica is a tough genre to avoid cliche and I think they nailed it.
I was pleasantly surprised by this
Enjoyed this
I'd forgotten how good this album is
I remember liking this when it came out, I think the breathy vocals on pop song were not as overly common place. An interesting departure from their usual style, enjoyable all the same 4*
По мнению А: 4/5 По мнению С: 4/5 ИТОГОВАЯ ОЦЕНКА: 4/5 (14.02.2025)
This is how frappucino or happiness taste like. It's good af. Mocne 4
Blind going into this. Thought it might be some flavor of "landfill indie" given the time-frame. It was not. A fresh update on psychedelic pop music. Top notch production, a real studio album. Sounds expensive. Tasteful use of synths. A real depth to the sonic landscapes rolling behind the singers lovely melodic vocals. This presaged the current pop trend of having little "rock" influence, with fairly sparse guitar. The bass and instrumentation is sometimes inspired by Air and other soundscapers. There is sometimes a hint of Radiohead, but only the barest whiff. Maybe some Fiona Apple. This is one of those albums that I could see really being a "grower". The layers really lend themselves to relistens. I don't know if it's too edgeless and non-offensive for me in the long run, probably not. Songs like A&E lean a little too far into the uplifting "I could picture this in a commercial". But In the end, I love vibey shit and this is a very vibey album.
laiskuuden leiriin liittyivät.. 8 vuotta sitten tehtiin historiaa.. viheltely, theremin kombo. ja nyt ollan tässä, missä? We enjoyed this a lot, actually. Very chill, was the perfect backdrop for getting some work done. We will be listening to this one again.
Beautiful album and so peaceful...
To me this was much much better than the previous Goldfrapp album. Very relaxing.
Big pop tunes, with a hint of menace, lovely strings and use of space
I’m already intrigued from the start. Fantastic stuff.
I was somewhat familiar with Goldfrapp’s earlier, more pop-oriented work, so this was a bit of a surprise. Many of these are essentially folk songs with synth pop or krautrock flourishes. And her vocals are perfect for this. A solid record.
Really properly brilliant
Allison es una diosa!!
Delightful and cool and collected. A sonic hug 4
4/5. A very chill and relaxing album, doesn't overstay it's welcome in each song as it moves from quiet ambience to electronic ballad. To be fair, it is hard to tell one from the other so it feels like one long song, akin to other quieter electronic groups I've heard. It can be bad or good depending on the actual quality of the music and this album does it well. No masterpiece because of this continuous flow but still a good one front to back. Best Song: Road To Somewhere, Caravan Girl, A&E
This album immediately took me back to the period of my youth when dad was obsessed with Johanna newsom and cat power. The opening track was a song that was always intertwined with the music of that time. A beautiful trip down memory lane
I enjoyed that.
I knew a couple of Goldfrapp songs going into this, neither of which are on this album. This album was a shock (in a good way) as I was expecting electronic dance music. I really like the dreamy, ethereal sound they have here. Surprised that Happiness was a single as I feel it's one of the weaker songs on the album, although I guess being a little more upbeat it's closer to their dance sound. The biggest problem this album has is a lack of hooks, ear worms, anything that will get stuck in your mind and lead you back for another listen.
This is a lovely album, good songs and great production. Nice work on the synths.
Nice
This is easy to hate, but I was convinced by the folky dream-pop. Nothing new, but incredibly pleasant.
🎧This is not what I was expecting from a Goldfrapp album and I liked it quite a bit. Favorite track: Clowns
electropop
I liked this one. It's probably an odd choice to use words like floaty or shiny to describe music, but both seem to fit this in my mind.
ethereal, lovely so far added little bird to one of my playlists, really digging the wave it's taking me on this is a tour de force. every song is powerful and feels unique while tied together brilliantly. i'm really enjoying - eat yourself is beautiful A&E feels like a turning point to be quite energetic in a way, but the lyrics are chilling. the whole song gives me frisson up and down my body, which is always a good thing in a track each song manages to surprise me. the strings on houdini are so deliberately jarring, in the best way, that it sets the song apart. the vocals just slap.
I love Goldfrapp. I don't listen to them enough. Alison has a wonderful voice.
This was really nice. Although unfamiliar with it, I heard lots of melodies that sounded familiar. I'm more at a 3.5, but its sheer beauty pushes it up to a 4. I was a bit skeptical based on the album cover. What is that about?
Very chill but pleasant!
Turns out I had a goldfrapp song in my library beforehand (ooh la la). Nothing like the music here though. I did enjoy it though.
Some gorgeous pop, electronic, and folk fusions presented here. This is my introduction to Goldfrapp, and while at first, I couldn't figure out what direction their sound was going in, I got a better feel for it as the album started to wrap up. They certainly sound like a lot of their contemporaries from the late 2000s indie scene, but I do find many aspects of this have aged really well, especially when it comes to the vocals. I loved the sweetness of tracks like 'Happiness' and especially 'A&E', a pop marvel that'll remain in my rotation for the foreseeable future. 'Cologne Cerrone Houdini' gave subtle trip-hop vibes with those string hits, and, alongside 'Eat Yourself', had Alison sounding a lot like Beth Gibbons to me. 'Caravan Girl' may have my favorite production on here, with it really amplifying those art-pop and electronic fusion sounds, even adding a bit of distortion. A great little pop experience, and one that's ahead of its time in many ways.
The music is really good - it reminds me of some of the more whimsical moments from The Beatles. "Happiness" was a highlight, and I'll probably revisit down the line.
4 - very serene and a calm sort of view
Heartfelt, atmospheric, and soft electronic textures and acoustic instruments. Cool little pop piece.
This was good. Another early 2000's album I've never heard of but liked right off the bat. Something about it reminded me of MGMT at times, but much more mellow. 3.5/5
3+
Really enjoyed this. I've an untapped soft spot for goldfrapp I think
- it's funny to me that no one mentions neo-psychedelia when reviewing this record cause it's so trippy ..... -
really good. 3.5
I had a good time with this catchy, slightly ethereal tree.
I liked this far more than I expected to A warm hug of an album
muy bueno e original, medio midsommar
che, muy bueno eh
wannabe Cocteau Twins but still pretty good
I am surprised to rate this as a solid 4. Dreamy introspection works for me here and I even enjoyed the uptempo electropop more than I would have thought. Hail the British Empire.
good
