Reviews (page 14 of 15)
Alright
**An ok album. Most tracks sound alike
ughhhhhhhh
I went in thinking this would be more killer than filler but I was completely incorrect. The singles feel like they were written by a different band they are so much better. Not a single track I hadn’t heard before that I’d want to revisit here. Did spend some time looking at the cover and appreciate the little details there. Also Billie Joe and co were just jerkin and singing about it still 4 albums deep? Lotion on the rider must have been insane.
An overall fine selection of tracks with a few notable highlights. The energy is undeniably fun, and drumming is intense and impressive. Unfortunately, the songwriting and instrumentation is somewhat lackluster. Even considering the short runtime, the album still outstays it's welcome by a fair few songs. Best Tracks: - Longview - Welcome To Paradise - Basket Case Worst Tracks: - Sassafras Roots - Emenius Sleepus Rating: 4.5/10
Some good hits, but the while is too much répétitive,
lowk cool aber bisschen basic fürs genre 5/10
Some good classics from my youth, but the production did not age well.
this is my first punk rock album i’ve ever listened to so i don’t feel quite as qualified to review this but this was a pretty decent album. the rock genre in general i’m not a very big fan of but i genuinely liked a few songs here. my biggest complaint however would be the sameness of it all. a lot of the tracks i found very similar to others and it kinda ruined it for me. lots of good stuff tho!
The band is tight. The lyrics were definitely written for a teens to early 20's audience. I can see how this album gave pop-punk a good boost. It's just not my taste.
Not for me.
Shortish pop album that seemed to last a lot longer than the 38 minutes and 22 seconds that Spotify told me. One big hit halfway through, then back to rather dull fake pop punk. The singer sounds like he has nasal issues. Two stars.
Welcome to Paradise //
I haven't heard it before, but I know it's very popular. I don't know, most of the songs sound kind of the same to me. Maybe punk is not really my thing. It is fun, though, and maybe I'll like the album better if I listen more to it. I liked Welcome To Paradise
My first thoughts were, "Ah, fuck. Dookie?" I'm not generally a fan of punk. There's some decent stuff out there, but I typically don't reach for it. And I'm certainly not a fan of pop punk. And yet somehow I ended up with this CD back in the late 90s. "Skate park pop punk for twelve year olds," as one review called it. I actually threw it away. I didn't sell it. I tossed it. My tastes have matured since. My opinion on the genre mellowed. I know now from decades of them being part of the common culture, they really aren't that bad. So, I'll give it a fresh listen. Yeah. In the end after taking an earnest listen to it, I did appreciate it more. 2 stars.
longview was cool when it came out bc it sounded a bit different from other pop. but be certain this was played more on mtv than like college radio. you know? I mean, that doesn't change the music, but it does change the framing. So I guess I'm comfortable calling this "punk" where the quotes represent mtv.
Not my jam
Damn this is so not my thing. His voice is annoying and the music is grating and kind of dull.
I actually bought this cassette when it came out. Longview was the big single and it sounded promising. Longview is still good. But everything else in this band’s catalog is too average. Sounded like everything else on the radio. Nothing special.
Their third album. Punk / Rock. Skate park pop punk for twelve year olds. These songs would be good for a support act at an Avril Lavigne concert. Nasal, bland and inauthentic. The production is good though.
SHUT UP MOM
Cool album cover. High energy, my daughter of 10 months certainly liked it. Perhaps abit repetitive.
Every single track is annoying, repetitive and pretentious as fuck. If you like this, you’re basically a moron.
2 out of 5 I mean it's ok and we all liked Green Day when they came out. But they were heavily over-played and sound the same after awhile.
Nope
Probably the album that put Green Day on the map, so it has a bit of the shock of the new, but as an album it’s far from consistent - more pockets of bright flashes.
I started off enjoying this a fair amount but as a whole album, I found it to be kind of grating. Every song (with a few exceptions) is very similar. And that very similar sound is 90s punk. This is not a sound I enjoy
Blasting drums, teenage angst (at least the vocals aren't annoying), and simple power chord progressions. Appealing to some, the album title is more an accurate label than a snarky joke to me.
This genre of music does not appeal to me.
Pop punk is just a genius idea. Someone sat down and thought "what if we take punk and make it more listenable?" and now we get to enjoy Longview and We are Fighting Dreamers The rest was pretty bland
Love basket case
Svagt album - egentligen bara tre singlar typ ... Tvåa
Not my cup of tea
Haven't listened to any Green Day albums in full before. When it comes to pop punk Green Day does it in a way that's not too obnoxious and quite pleasant. But most songs on this album sound quite samey. I enjoyed the vibe of this album but it's also rather meh 2/5
I remember getting this through a mail order CD subscription service in the 90's. Loved some of the singles, but I grew to dislike West Coast pop punk which this album iconically made mainstream along with bands like Rancid. More a personal taste thing now
Caly album brzmi tak samo
unimaginative. i cannot be assed writing a whole review. in my opinion 'pop punk' will never be a genre, it makes no sense.
Can an album be great but not very good? Maybe it suffers from familiarity? Great songs but so repetitive, you hear the singles, you got it all
even though i have a soft spot for this sort of thing (prefer weezer though) i can't help but feel the album is very samey. i don't wan to say derivative, but most of the songs do sound very similar
Pallid, overly polished power pop-punk, the musical equivalent of processed food.
Not my favorite but not my least favorite either it was just kinda boring
I have a high tolerance for "whiny" voices but this is too much.
Some hits and some mediocre songs. The drums are annoying.
Green Day: Dookie: I really wanted to make this review simply, "Dookie" and then the rating, but while I do not love this album, it isn't awful. Its just not my thing, but it isn't garbage. His vocals are the worst part, but they aren't like awful just eh. I did not like any song enough to add them to my playlist but like they're fine. The album is fine, pretty whatever, reeks of the 90s, but I didn't really enjoy it either. The last song is really bad, but its also a joke. Not for me! 5/10
I never could get into Green Day and this listen continues that trend. I don’t care for the whiny vocals and the repetitive power cord use gets old and makes all the songs sound very similar. I can enjoy punk music but something about them never connected with me and feels lame. Wish I could hear what other people seem to get from this.
kinda okay i guess
⭐️⭐️.5/5. It’s iconic and shaped an entire generation, but with time I find most of the songs repetitive and trite, aside from the obvious break-out hits (which are truly incredible). Album as a whole is superseded immeasurably by American Idiot.
At the ripe old age of 24 Green Day were my first experience of feeling old as a music fan. I just couldn't relate to kids and teens' love of these safe punk not punk retreads. I felt people my own age should have known better. I also suspect they were America's perfectly justifiable revenge for years of UK bands singing in bad American accents.
Not really my kind of music but I appreciated the drumming.
I love punk rock. But I do not like Green Day. At least this is before the big MTV sellout. Biased review.
Basket case is ok but not a fan overall sorry greenday :[
probably the only green day album I don't mind listening to.
Exposing kids to plastic punk ethos. Better than no punk, I suppose.
Nope. 2/5
It's a nicely made pop punk album, but the dated 90's guitar sound and same-y same-y songs don't really appeal to me personally.
That was boring.
Not a fan
Basketcase and When I get around are almost anthems. But the rest all sound so similar to me. Not my genre.
Obvously a very important album in terms of popularizing pop punk. I like the songs when I hear them isolation, and there are a lot of solid hits on this record, but it's hard to listen all the way through, in part due to the production.
Considering this has the best Green Day song on it I was pretty disappointed. Almost every song sounds the same. Basket Case is the only reason this gets 2 stars.
Another end to a multi-album artist. I listened to American Idiot a few months back and wasn't a fan of that album, though I'd be lying if I said the possibility of a relisten didn't cross my mind. The historical context and the "Jesus of Suburbia" concept are both pretty interesting ideas to base an album around. Apparently the success of American Idiot failed to eclipse the success of this album, though I've heard next-to-nothing about this collection of songs in the run-up to it finally gracing my project. Uh, yeah. It's alright. I'm not a fan of this of-the-time, polished to a fault pop music, though I can see the appeal. "Burnout" is a solid opener. The vocal melody is good and I like the solid drum breaks near the end of the song. "Longview" has a very solid guitar hook and I enjoy the disaffected lyrics. "Sassafras Roots" is solid, with some good songwriting and an alright instrumental. Generally speaking, I think it's very difficult to make good music that is in and around the two minute mark. It's very unfortunate that nearly half of the album is comprised of tracks which fit this bill. If the two-minuters were condensed and refined into more substantial music then I likely wouldn't come away from this album feeling so bored and mentally exhausted. A lot of these tracks also have a bad habit of blending together. I'm very mild on this album, though I didn't dislike it the same way that I came away disliking American Idiot. I can kinda vouch for this album. teenybopper albums are very hard to come by and appear to be generally disliked by the curators of this list, so I think there's merit in this one making it into the book. Green Day are apparently very influential as well, though in what ways I'm unsure - they're pretty far beyond my musical interests.
Do you have the time to listen to me whine....no, derivative and tedious.
As someone who doesn’t like punk this is one of the better attempts at getting me interested . It’s catchy poppy at times but ultimately , it’s just not my thing
I'm not necessarily looking forward to listening to another Green Day album, but at least this time the all the songs are actually divided into different tracks! And they're shorter. Let's see This album came out 10 years before the other Green Day album I've been forced to listen to (American Idiot), and you can tell by these songs. Whatever you say about AI (I was trying to find a short-cut for American Idiot but it just reads as Artificial Intelligence lol dumb), in that album it feels like the band has a clearer idea of what they want to do, and actually have a kind-of unique sound to them. Judging by these first few tracks, it seems like early Green Day sounded like any other punk record. But let me no judge too early. Liked the transition into Longview. But after finishing that song, this record hasn't had any memorable moments so far. I'm really starting to think that maybe this just isn't for me. I like rock. I like punk. But maybe just... not this kind? Or maybe my prejudice against Green Day is far greater than I thought. I did find some enjoyment out of American Idiot, but this one just isn't doing it for me, and I jsut finished listening to two of the most famous songs here. But yes, I'll stick to the end... Pulling teeth is the first song I've liked here!!! Good news!!! Is Basket Case just gonna be about him being crazy? Because I'm sorry but that really aligns with the stereotype I have of Green Day listeners. The song itself is not bad at all! Just nothing that I have any desire to listen to again. She has the lyrics "scream at me until my ears bleed" which is exactly the situation that, for some reason, I'm forcing myself into with this. I do like the message of the song, but again, no desire to ever subject myself to it. Should I include a funny jab about wasting my time after with Sassafras Roots? When I Come Around seems like my last hope. Please have something good here. I'm begging. Yeah ok I like this chorus. I'll throw a dog a bone, this is good. Only five songs left, and the good news is they're all short! I'll be done in about 10 minutes. Yeyyyyy I don't know if I'd like this better if the mixing was better? It does sound like it's supposed to hurt my ears (mission accomplished!). I really like the little drum solo moment in In The End! Rest of the track is fine, but those 15 seconds are great. I don't know what the fuck that last track was but it might have been one of my favourite moments on the record! Overall, man....... I came into this list as an ignorant Green Day hater, but American Idiot made me swallow my pride and admit they could be good! Dookie just gave me reason to be a hater again. What even is that album name. I'm sure there's some dumb reason for it, but guess what, still dumb. Again, this may just not be for me. In fact that is a strong possibility. In that case, I hope everyone that enjoys this keeps on enjoying it! I just won't be one of those people. Bye
Of all of the US punk bands that appeared in the 90s, early Green Day is probably the one I would choose to listen to if I really had to. Dookie hasn't aged as well as I thought it might have but it still holds a certain poppy charm. Dumb but melodic.
hm
I don’t get get why this is so popular
Despite being one of my favorite bands, including my first our second favorite song ever, this album is not good.
being from Oakland and not being a Green Day fan is a suffering worse than Jesus
A classic. Hard to review objectively, as it’s so familiar. 2.5 Stars
3/10 I get why people like Green Day, I'm just never going to be one of those people. Green Day's sound, in particular Billie Joe Armstrong's singing style, has been one of my biggest pet peeves in music for as long as I can remember. Heard in the context of this full album, (I was trying to give it a fair chance,) I was surprised that it was kind of okay - certainly far better than when Green Day songs come on during some shitty Propaganda style club night. Having said that, I'm never going to try and make an effort to get into this band because if I don't emotionally connect to their music to begin with I can't imagine that there's any reward or depth worth the effort of becoming a Green Day fan. Billie, my answer is no, I do not have the time to listen to you whine. Listens: 1
Green Day klingt mir zu sehr nach Green Day.
Well at least its happy bouncy music, even if terribly shallow and same.
Ugh. Just do not get this band. Pale imitation of their influences. A vanilla version of The Clash and 70s punk.
Always thought it was extremely overrated.
Loved it in high school. Also loved Tim Allen in high school. People change.
I always liked the idea of Green Day more than their music. And Billie Joe Armstrong's punk voice has always annoyed me. This is like if the Clash got back together and sucked. Punk bands always have short songs and short albums though, that's a plus, never wearing out their welcome. I think Longview was the first single, definitely one of them. Welcome to Paradise was another hit, albums from the mid 90s had a lot of singles come off them. Basket Case was, and still is, a huge hit. I don't believe these dorks ever actually went to a whore. I'm not sure why people love Green Day and hate Blink-182. Basket Case feels like the song that made Blink-182 believe they should be a band. Five singles off this album, I blame MTV. When I Come Around is the best song on the album. Seriously, Blink-182 straight ripped these guys off, Coming Clean could be a Blink-182 song right down to the whiny teenage lyrics. And the album ends with All by Myself...three assholes being stupid to end an album. Why do bands treat last songs on albums like jokes?
Not a fan of this genre or band.
I've always wanted to like this more than I do, but it's never fully clicked for me, even when I was right in its crosshairs, when I got my hands on a CD copy of it at age 12. Basket Case obviously rules. I wish I could get excited about much else.
Much more alt-90s mixed with surf rock than I remembered. Tre Cool’s drumming is great.
I tried really hard back in 1994 to be into Green Day. Turns out, I'm just too much of a softie then and now to really enjoy it. Here for the nostalgia (sort of), but not for the tunes. Sorry for being a hater :(
Ok
Ok. If I was 17 again I’d love driving around in my junk car with this on the cassette player.
Oh great... over-produced, major-label pop punk. If you're over 18 and still listen to this, you're undeniably a pedophile. Giving it 2 stars because at least it's still better than the absolute crap they put out after this.
I've always had mixed feelings about this boysband of "punk". Yes, there are some catchy tunes but it's all so predictable and very commercial/American sounding. Was going to give it a 3 because it's good fun after all, but got seriously bored halfway through the album, so a 2 it will be.
Ok energy, all a bit the same
I thought it was pretty dookie. For some reason i just cant bring myself to properly rock out to Green day
Good drummer.
sounds like green day
Name checks out.
For sure can't deny the foot tap. However that being said..not my thing. Wouldn't relisten.
i thought i was going to love it, but listening to this album the full way through just reminded me why i never gravitated towards green day during my middle school emo phase. this album has all the makings of something i should like and yet .. i don’t. i like pop punk, and i like fast-paced catchy songs, but the whole time i listened to this album i was half waiting for it to be over. all by myself might be one of the worst songs I’ve had the displeasure of listening to
Does the accusation that Michael Jackson touched up kids make you like his music less? We'll come back to that in a second. I first saw Green Day play at Lollapalooza just one day before their legendary mud fight set at Woodstock '94 that was ALL OVER MTV rotation that year. I thought they were awesome! If you could wear a CD out, I probably would have worn this one out. They went back on tour a year later in 1995, headlining larger venues, and I saw them at a proper arena. This time, however, I noticed something peculiar. I am not being hyperbolic when I say this... the crowd was 50% children. Like, 10 year old children. Was I there to watch modern punk rock or Disney on ice? I think there may have even been vendors walking around selling cotton candy for fucks sake! I know it shouldn't matter. I know that you should listen to music on it's own merit. Thriller will always be an awesome record no matter what Michael got up to. But from that day forward I could not hear them for anything other than a kid's band. And you know what- the signs were there all along. This album is called Dookie, a word I've never heard an adult use. The biggest hit on this record is about jerking off. The last song on this album is literally just baby-talk. They were ALWAYS a kid's band.
catchy but also boring. uninteresting playing throughout the album
Never heard of them. I think I tuned out of the 90s because band were just rehashing the musical trends of the past three decades and thinking they were so cool. This is not punk, just pop with punk influences. Having said that, these boys have a bit of talent if not much originality, so 2.
Nostalgic but hard to listen to now.
I’ve never got the hang of Green Day. I have no idea why this is so popular, it just seemed a bit tedious to me to be honest. And the last track sucks fwiw
meh. only liked two songs.
well there’s no denying that there’s better punk out there but this is alright to some extent too, but if i wanted punk i’d put something else on and that’s the thing. it has some passable tracks, though for me a lot of them especially on the second half of the record started flowing together and sounding the same. for me usually punks very basic musical composition is to accentuate the lyrics, which usually have some sort of political message of the times the songs were written, which is what makes the genre so great. can't give it those points though if half the songs are about wanking you know?? on a second thought it strikes me as if green day doesn't possess the inherent punk ideology that kickstarted the genre, they just heard where it came from and not caring about the politics just tried to fit into the "lifestyle" of actual punks, which is just a tad inauthentic really and takes away the rawness, the anger, and desire for change that authentic punk possesses, so it almost just isn't punk at all... but i digress hihi xx
Big fan of American Idiot. Had never listened to this album before. Will probably never again (or will to see just what the hell I am missing). Didn't do anything for me. Very disappointing. Important at its time but not for me.
Was familiar with the singles - but had not listened to the album previously. I really like the later album: American Idiot and had high hopes as have a soft spot for punk pop. Unfortunately I found it rather disappointing - all the songs seemed to blur into each other at the same tempo/level with a lack poppy hooks apart from the singles. Maybe it was too early in the day but I found the whole thing rather tiring... :-(
Not for me. This was a great album for them. It got played way too much and it tastes bad in my mouth.
If I never hear any of these songs, I'll still have heard them too many times. I also hate how he sings. And I hate everything that came out of this.
Not a fan - repetitive except Longview which I quite enjoyed. The rest largely blended into one another in a mush. That being said, I can observe and respect this album's influence on the late 90s/early 2000s teen media craze : it's a soundtrack to angst, awkwardness and self discovery.
A few classic songs to be sure. But when you listen to this album straight through, you really notice how similar and interchangeable these songs feel
2,5
Never really got on with green day, Basket Case is their best work though
"Basket Case", "Longview", "When I Come Around"...
The drummer is seriously putting in overtime on this record. I'm probably the most tolerant person of pop punk out of my friends, but fuck me, even this album is a drag. Every song starts the same and sounds the same, no fucking range from Billie Joe Armstrong whatsoever. Only song I do enjoy is When I Come Around, the rest of these songs could easily have the same title and I'd believe it was the same song. Hopefully I never have to listen to this album again in my life, lame ass whiny album.
Three feels generous for an album that can be summed up by the opening line of basket case: “do you have the time to listen to me whine”. Green Day are a bunch of suburban Californian white boys who write songs for other suburban Californian white boys about how hard it is to be a suburban Californian white boy. This album is full of what would become early 2000’s teen movie needledrop tracks that you half recognise from a single bar you heard in aforementioned movie. It is not good. The fact that these guys got flak from the punk scene for ‘selling out’ is astonishing because I can’t believe they had any credibility in it before they released a studio album. Astonishingly mid album. Basket Case is alright.
The longest 39 minutes of my entire life 5/10 Fav tracks - Basket Case Least Fav - All by Myself
Took me three attempts to listen to this at home without falling asleep. This shit is ass. Sitting through this was like the ludo vico sequence. I guess the drumming is okay
Ok, but not for me 2/5.
Half of this album sounds the exact same as the last pop punk song you heard. The other half has decent melodies and is famous/iconic enough, but then you remember half of THOSE were probably lifted from better rock songs. It's inoffensive without context, but still nothing special in the long run.
Derivative and dull
basket case é uma all time banger listening meio cansativo, pouca variação entre as musicas
Sounds samey
Wow, that was actually a really boring and monotone album. I think I am not a fan of early Green Day at all. It's just that type of punk rock which is grinding your gears for an hour straight, three chords over and over again.
Loud but only slightly obnoxious. Repetitive and not very enjoyable. Not bad enough to hate but bad enough to dislike.
In the late nineties/early naughties I was young and weak and I listened to some pop punk for a short time (actually Blink-182 and The Offspring, that's it) before turning to the most metallic side of things. I'm comfortable with my tastes at that time, but the truth is I never quite like the sound of guitars in this genre, too bright, with too many major keys. I never listened to Dookie before because this phase was too short for me to dive in the glorious history of pop punk, but it has all the same qualities (pretty fun and easy to listen to) and defaults (this horrible guitar sound, all songs could be the same) of other albums of the genre.
A couple of good songs but I'm not in to this style of american 'punk'
The songs felt far too monotonous and felt like power chords for 40 mins. I added a star for basket case as that’s been an ear worm.
Somehow this album is not as bad as I remember (the decent songs) and at the same time way worse than I remember (everything else).
Punk content: zero Pop content: mediocre Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain came out in '94. Why the hell would anyone be listening to this?
2 stars for a few of the classics. Otherwise, a multi-skip track album. Most songs sound the same. And have never been much of punk rock fan
- I like the bass and drum rhythms, but not the actual drums themselves, they sound too light for the type of music it’s trying to be. - Drum fills are good. - 3rd song has bass solo, that’s cool and I like - transition between 3rd song and 4th was great, really liked that - 4th song has great drum rhythm with the tons, and has a good melody, probably my favourite so far - tempo seems to change between chorus and verse - nice fade out - said this before but I really like the bass lines - 6th song is good, new favourite, good chord progression and relaxed tempo - 7th song I have heard before but didn’t realise it was on this album - it’s the new favourite and yes I have the time to listen to you whine - 8th song, I like how the electric guitar came in - what the hell was that scream - I’m finding so far that all the songs are sounding super similar, which isn’t a positive thing - 9th song, sounds like all the other songs, it’s just okay nothing special - actually I liked how the ride cymbal came in towards the end very crisply - 10th song is sounding familiar but I can’t pick why, sounds okay - one thing I’m noticing too is that I’m not picking up much on the lyrics, the voice kind of blends with the music which is another thing I don’t like - okay nice higher guitar solo, wasn’t long but it was nice to have something different - 11th song, sounded like all the others - 12th song sounds exactly like song 11 - there’s this section that’s bass toms and some guitar with no cymbals and that was cool I guess - 13th song I don’t like the fast tempo already, and I don’t like the drum rhythm - another cool section with bass, low guitar and some electric - 14th song it’s started with just light guitar and vocals, it’s a nice change - sounds super thin, I think the mixing is off and Spotifys probably screwed up the normalisation - okay everything else has come in, and it sounds good, the variation is good to have to make it interesting - most interesting song for sure - 15th song, wow okay very different sound here, great guitar, singing is shit, mixing is worse - I like the rawness here - overall I wouldn’t listen again, but good to try something new
I couldn't make it through this...
Green Day has never been my thing. Not punk enough by a long shot to warrant the naivety of their music. Where's the anger, where's the energy?! Coming at it 20 years later, this still holds true for me. Plus, I haaate the guitar sound.
Not a fan
"to me, it's nothing" the attitude of the album Super tempting to play this album too loud and play air drums. The mix is a bit too Punk Rock for my tastes.
Not for me. Sounds too much like the Friends era, and I dislike that series. Silly for me.
Never heard this album, just some of the songs. I'm not a fan of Billy Joe Armstrong's voice nor his lyrics. The band is able to find some hooks, though. Some call Green Day "Punk" or "Hard Rock". I call it "What you get when Katrina and the Waves gets drunk".
Decente, nunca he sido fan de Green Day, pero Dookie es un buen proyecto. Canciones cortas, energéticas y algún que otro buen tema. El corte final horrible, todo sea dicho.
Aaaah je n'aime pas aaaah
Ihan on ookoo, muutamat kohokohdat.
ehhhhh... fine
Meh, nothing stood out
Nostalgic, but a bit too “pop” for me
funny how basket case became a hit because everything sounds the same, haha.
Boring....
Decent pop punk. I've never heard the album but have heard every song. Music for people who think they're edgy to singalong to. 5/10
Oh geez alright. The drumming is undeniably some of my favourite for the genre, I feel like Travis Barker gets more than his fair share that should be redirected to Tre. This album just doesn’t hit like it used to for me. Maybe I’m just old now
Not a huge fan. All sounds the same except the hits.
Not my style. The quality of the album doesn't match with their later work. It might be a nostalgic piece for people that got into Green Day early on.
standard punkscheiß
I like Green Day, but honestly never really loved them. And strangely I think their later albums are better.
Guys, is it punk to sing like a baby boy?
Didn’t realize how much their music just sounds like noise.
Expected to hate it. Didn’t. Didn’t love it either. So there we are.
GD be like GD
Es un disco de Green Day muy parecido a un disco de Green Day
Punk-Rock, 1994 -> 2
snooze
This is good at doing what it intends to do, which is melodic pop punk. But it's not got the bite that I like in punk. Nice of them to let Kermit the Frog sing the last song.
Not my cup of tea. If all I can hear is over drive and the snare, I'm not a fan. Not to say this is bad, I know Green Day is iconic in the genre. It's just not for me 2/5 I won't be reaching for it again.
Sorry but i did not have the time to listen to Billie Joe Armstrong whine. My favorite green day album is Insomniac and that was a better follow up than Dookie in my opinion. Its like a Terminator and Terminator 2 situation, the sequel is better.Who wants to listen to an album that is straight Dookie by the way.Although the mixing is good on this album, I find it an overrated album in my opinion.
Even at 35 minutes, its 25 minutes too long. I just cant listen to this guy whine all day
Eh, I'm not much of a Green Days fan to begin with but this album wasn't so bad, it's okay with at least 2 good songs
It was okay. I saw a review that said something like 'it's dripping in American' and that is so true, everything about it is dumb american teen angst. Having said that, it was decent enough to listen to, i don't hate it but i really don't love it. I really don't understand 'basket case being the most streamed song because it was honestly quite a boring listen- my favourite by far was 'when I come around'. It had a decent enough tune and was slightly interesting. The lead singer (Billie i believe- who tf spells 'billy': 'billIE- it's weird american shit again) has such teenage dirtbag vocals, but he can't pull them off because only Brendan B. Brown can pull them off and ONLY when he sings teenage dirtbag. Use of these vocals in any other situation should be severey punished. Honestly, wouldn't listen again, but it wans't awful.
Punk at its crispest, cleanest and bounciest. Way too polished, too. One's no punk acolyte, but will stand with the purists here and cal this awfully lame overall. Even for the low standards of slacker art, this is no great shakes and certainly not to be taken serioulsly.
Ugh. I figured we would get this since we also got Offspring, but still...just not very interesting or entertaining, I'm afraid (and somewhat surprisingly, not as interesting as The Offspring) .
i like Longview
not my thing, never has been, tried it, but just not that interested. it's not that it's bad music, i just don't care for puck-adjacent stuff that much, which is how Dookie feels to me.
I dont like Queen
For about a week when I was 16. I thought this album ruled. In the here & now, it's just making me worry that this project might be "1001 bands you could hear on classic rock radio in 1994". Prove me wrong, 1001 Albums...
No sorry this is energy, three chords and not a lot else. Can see how incredibly influential it was, but rather monotonous over an album. Full marks for taking Fugazi, Black flag et al and making an absolute mint from it.
Not into it, yet again
Some bangers but it didn’t do a lot for me.
I remember a couple of these songs being played to death on the radio years ago. Boring kiddie rock.
I was never a big Green Day fan, but like some of their songs. 'When I Come Around' is still an enjoyable song, but the rest of the album was kind of meh. Not one I'll likely revisit. 2/5
Less energy and less creative than American idiot imo.
Huh, not a fan, ocekivao sam nesto bolje. Najbolje pjesme: 1. Basket Case 2. When I Come Around 3. Welcome to Paradise
Sorry not a fan, not bad as such just a little sanitized for punk
Not much going on. Singles stand out but only a little past the monotone
I thought maybe I might be like, "hey, this album's alright." But I wasn't.
I generally don't care for the music of Green Day. However, I do like the songs "Basket Case" and "when I come around".
Sorry, not sorry but not a fan…. I felt yelled at… and please understand I loved punk rock in the 80’s… but this just was just not something I enjoyed. I listened to 3 songs… I couldn’t take any more…
While I appreciate the creative contributions Green Day has given to modern society, it is not something I would ever choose to listen to on my own.
Green Day has its place in rock's history, but was never one of my favorites (compared to, say, Nirvana, Bush or Foo Fighters). Not my style.
Greenday were my favourite band when I was 9 years old. I loved their main songs. Not sure if their music still does it for me. I enjoyed moments of the album but I highly doubt this would be something I’d revisit.
Meh!
2 Not a fan of mush mouth words or the sounds generated bu the band
They all sounded really similar and the only really good ones were the popular ones. 4/10
done 3/10
A little boring
Underwhelming af. I expected much from the supposed cornerstone of '90s rock/punk. I think Green Day works best with 2000's sad emo-ish rock songs, not necessarily this brand of punk. Or perhaps I just don't like this brand of punk.
I was never a fan of Green Day, I find this style mediocre (well more like kinda shit, to be frank). It really does nothing for me. Longview and When I Come Around are ok. Atleast I can draw a line under that and know I’m not missing anything interesting.
I hate Greenday. I just can‘t stand Billie‘s singing. Nevertheless, they have some cool tunes and I like the drumming.
Very similar sound throughout. Heavy driving guitar and drums. There are some interesting interlude periods but I just don’t really like the guitar sound honestly. I liked the basket case song but my favorite is when I come around.
Jee green day. Kaikki biisit kuulosti musta samalta :D Chump ja Basket Case erottu tuttuina biiseinä. Ei lähe omalle listalle mut tää on tämmöstä hyvä tietää-musaa.
When I Come Around I think is a genuinely pretty good song. I really don't feel the rest of it much tbh. It's not THAT bad or anything, a lot of it is pretty catchy, but then I get annoyed by it being stuck in my head for longer than it's welcome lol. (It should be noted that pop-punk is not generally my thing) His voice sorta annoys me on this one, I like the vocals on the later albums quite a bit more tbh. Overall feels like a 2 leaning 2.5 with a couple strong high points and with the rest quite bland or bad imo. As I said, pop punk isn't really for me most of the time.
were paedophiles for the american dream...hehhee... ei viimeaikoina kovin hyvää musiikkia tuottanut heh. . If you don’t like this, you’re basically a moron. noh tykkäsin pikkusenverranpikkusenverran. kolmekymppiset ameeriikkalaiset nostalgeilee arvosteluissa. vetäjääkäähän käteen, heh. varmaan oli aikanaan kovaa settiä, nykyäjään vähemmän sellainen. silti nautinnollista... longview
3.5/10, this feels like an album a 16 year old boy will post #deep to and the nostalgia for those feelings is not there for me. The vocals annoy me, it really felt like a slog to get through this.
I used to have fun with this album. When I was a child.
i feel bad giving everything a 1 lmao. but i appreciate this for what it's worth! just not for me ☹️
no.
Classic Californian skate pop punk. A bit too repetitive and too similar. Forms of the song pretty simple. I hear an influence of country and folk music in the second voice and singing melody
Ok album. Some classics but not my style to listen to it through regularly. I get the social aspect of this album but let’s be honest, this was the beginning of watering down punk for the masses and neutering the message.
i don’t like it ): not a big fan of pop punk
I really praise the fact that they bring a fresh sound on 90’s rock scene, with a punk style music (Ramones inspired) but with a more pop vive that make them so popular. They made punk big again and i really respect that. Basket case is the most famous and best song i think on this album, i belived its the one that stand out and its just a classic Unfortunatly i could not say the same about the rest, for me personality i dont find other song very intersting or even original the structure and melody are a bit too similar at my personal taste. Burnout and chump are good song tho
good thing basket case is on this album or it would be the same song over and over again. never understood the appeal of this, DaBaby before DaBaby. one song 15 times. basket case is the only reason its a 2 and not a 1
Listening to these on you tube has its draw backs, but also its advantages. As in this case, if left to its own devices it continues to play tracks in a similar vein to these selected. This album was followed by the sex pistols and puddle of mudd. Now although green day were OK, a high 2. What followed were much better examples of the genre. Though I do like the holiday track, unfortunately this album didn't live up to it.
I've always thought that this album was overrated. I think I can appreciate it more now than I have in the past, but my qualms are still there. It's mostly the mixing. The drums just sound so tiny and everything bleeds together. It really kills the impact of the album. Attempting to ignore that, the songwriting is really solid though. Catchy, clever and tight pop rock. I get the appeal, I just wish it was that tiny bit better.
Just okay, bit middle of the road 'alternative' music for those who don't really like the wilder guitar stuff.
billie joe's voice has always been nails on a chalkboard to me, but the music is well enough executed, saving it from a 1
I understand why this was such an important album in the mid 1990s to many teens, mainly in the US. I wasn't a teen back then so I don't have nostalgic feelings about this album. When I got a copy of it from a friend of mine in the early 2000s I wasn't too impressed by it. Now that I listened to it again, my opinion hasn't changed that much. It's all just guitar based pop-rock, not a punk album - and all the songs sound really similar. My 11/12-year-old self probably would have liked it more, but it isn't my thing...
Too rowdy for me
Not for me
Light 5
Not a fan.
Dullllllll, couldn't finish.
I know I shouldn’t play the comparison game with these, but in some cases I feel it’s necessary. The Blue Album came out the same year as this, and it absolutely blows this out of the water. This has the much better album cover though, G’work Green Day. Also, nice cameo in This Is 40. Update: I just found out The Blue Album isn’t even in the 1001 albums, which makes this selection even more depressing.
Onhan tämä paljon parempi kuin American Idiot. En silti oikein jaksa.
Pop punk is nearly always boring, so idk if this changes it *Spoiler* It did not. I liked a couple of songs (Blowout has a nice guitar tone), but I absolutely don't understand the appeal of Green Day
That was alright. Not bad, not good. Single time experience. I don't think that you can call that "punk-rock", it's more like just a plastic copy of it. It's sounds not raw at all, there's no riot, it's just a school level pop punk shit. Never was a Green Day fan, not became after that. Somebody may feel nostalgic about this album, but i have my own favorites from this era, far from this.
meh. Not my style.
When I come around is such a classic but otherwise don’t like this album too much. Woulda went hard early 2000s though no doubt
The singles were chosen well by MR. RECORD EXECUTIVE. The rest of it is pretty meh. But the singles are fine. Not sure I can do 3, however. But these guys are so edgy they'll take it as a compliment
Not a band or album that gained my attention
I don't understand why anyone likes this band or the punk genre in general.
not really a fan of this band... its cute i think?
p751. 1994. 2 stars. Rehashed punk/New Wave for the early 90s, with a couple of radio friendly tunes. The Undertones did this first and much better. And Billie Joe Armstrong sounds like he has a bad cold.
But boring couldn’t finish it. Only boring cause It sounds generic to the music from my childhood.
Today was Green Nostalgic but not as good as i remember hahahaha
Fantasilöst. Allt låter nästan likadant.
Heard this a million times.
I remember when this album came out, it was huge. It was unlike anything that was in the pop music space. It's influence is undeniable. That said, I haven't listened to this album in 20 years.... and to tell you the truth, it'll probably be another 20 before I listen to it again. Even the hits haven't aged well, and the filler even less so.
Not a big fan. Only song I liked was When I come around.
Bit of a struggle this one. It’s not that it’s bad exactly, just not that remarkable. Maybe if I’d heard it at a formative age? But listening now it just sounds like so many other bands pop-punking it up. Maybe these guys nailed the sound that others have copied? I don’t know but don’t really care enough to find out.
although there were a number of songs from this album that were single releases, I didn't much care for the rest. Music was similar song to song
Not for me. Found it neither punk or pop punk, and other than Basket Case nothing really stood out to me
Does every song have to be the same? But never mind me, I also dislike Weezer.
I tried, really
alright except his voice is hard to listen to.
"Chump" is good. All other tracks would benefit from Billie Joe shutting up for 2 minutes. Everything past like the first couple of tracks is very samey. Also, maybe it's my mediocre headphones, but the production is kind of weird - the vocals are super quiet, it's like they're drowning in the instrumental. I would have possibly enjoyed it when I was 15, but this just isn't for me.
The album has too much energy and every song sounds the same. "Do you have the time, to listen to me whine". I took the time yes, but I will not take it again.
The last album with Guitars I bought before I fell head first into electronica and a green vynal as well. Like all green day albums a great lead song and a load of mush. These guys made this whole american punk pop sound that seemed to go on forever. It kinda takes the edge of punk and has these annoying vocals. Basket case is a good song though
Basket case is great but the rest just fades into sub-par same-sounding filler
Redelijk
Not my jam
To me, the consistency of this album is a bit annoying. There are a few breaks in the “I’m fucked, you’re fucked, we’re all fucked” narrative which are very necessary, but even with those it still gets old. There are instrumental high points as well, particularly near the end of the album, but many filler tracks just have a typical pop-punk rhythm. 4/10
DEU YU HAVE THE TYME! Basket Case, She, When I Come Around och F.O.D. är bra. Bästa låt: Basket Case.
Look it's lots of gooky american rockers targetting students by shouting and occasionally adding melodic riffs and shouting some more and look at this album cover!
Bubble gum punk at best. A few tracks that are listenable. Don't compare this album to all the pretentious "we still think we're punk" crap that came after this album. And they lose points for trying to make everyone think that they are British.
Lidt teenagerock, energisk, men lidt for stereotypt
Fun music. Hate the singer.
Very, very mainstream punk pop. Decent sounding band, but ultimately I am finding their music rather boring.
leuke album cover, soort vrolijkere punk
One dimensional and very damey for the most part. Couple of stand out tacks elevate it beyond throw away meh.
Eh. Basket Case is the only good Green Day song. 5-6/10
For all the energy it is a bit one paced
ngl, the singer is pretty dull
Tedious and silly. It’s just dull with very few moments of real quality. You can get over his voice or you can’t. And I can’t. But hey at least this was before they disappeared up their own asses
Despite the consensus of Green Day fans being that Dookie is their best record by a significant margin, it still sounds sort of like "Dookie" to me. The instrumentals, the tempo, the vocal style, the lyrical content is the same on nearly every track here. If you listen to the first one, it seems like you really have experienced everything Green Day has to offer. It's not necessarily bad, it's just average dumbed-down skate punk that does absolutely nothing for me.
Kinda feels repetitive at the start but has some recognizable songs Best songs: Basket case & when i come around Rating 2/5
Not my cup of tea
bah c'est un album de green day quoi, aucune envie d'écouter ça. 2? fav : welcome to paradise ?
Not great.
I've always said Green Day were shit but never truly listened to them properly to back up my argument. Now I have.
Yeah, no, I didn't like it at all. But on the bright side it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be! Just a bit bad, bland, boring, unappealing - but not nearly as annoying as expected!
All these bands only have one song! It's fine, but I don't see why they got so big? MTV? Kooky singer?
Puerile rubbish. Some catchy riffs not not my bag.
Like 2 good songs.
Quite uninspiring.
Generic rubbish
Not much for me here
OR: I am too old for this fun. Verjährte 2.4
When I come around is good. The rest is meh. Not a fan.
Not much going on. Singles stand out but only a little past the monotone
This album is by no means perfect. I do wish there was more done with the instrumental sections on this album. Especially early on there are a couple songs that seem to be leading up to a big moment that never really comes. Chump is practically begging for a bass solo by the end (it is a great transition into Longview though). That being said when everything comes together on Dookie the album is untouchable. Longview, Welcome to Paradise and Basket Case are still absolute bangers ever after my 100th time hearing them. Pop-punk as we know it probably does not exist without those 3 songs. But like most home-run hitters this album strikes out quite a bit. The three tracks towards the end (that altogether are just barely over 5 minutes) really seem to just be here to pad out the run time. This album is still fun but do yourself a favor and after When I Come Around is over skip to F.O.D. Favorite Songs: Burnout, Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, All By Myself
Not a fan A few good songs on there
Punk rock. Feels a lot like the rebellious emotions of the band are poured out as songs, which evidently resonate with a lot of people because the album is very popular. I did not resonate as much, and I did not enjoy it that much.
Not my style
You know how a child is wailing in your ear? Yeah, this is it. 1/5
Yesterday I got Smash by The Offspring. I feel the same about these 2 albums so I'm cutting and pasting yesterday's review. Ugh. I'm on a streak of shit albums. Bubblegum punk from the 90s. This book offers No NOFX No Bad Religion No Operation Ivy No Rancid There are 1,001 (US) punk albums you must listen to before you listen to this one.
Vraiment pas top ! Pas mon style
Awful punk for, and apparently written by, 12 year olds who are mad at their parents. It was bad when it came out, it's bad now.
I know I am biased at this point, but there is nothing I enjoy here. Not for me
no lo escuche sorry
Over rated
Truthfully I could not even finish this one bro.
There’s something about this artist that bothers me a lot. I wasn’t aware of this phenomenon until I listened to their TWO albums in this list! Two? Of all the artists.. these guys have two already in the top 1001? If a third album comes up I’ll happily take my eardrums out, grate them over a plate of nachos and eat them myself- that’s considered a swifter death, rather than putting them through the torture of listening to more green day. How can two green day albums be now inside my brain when I haven’t heard anything from Cher or Britney Spears yet. Take a day off billy.
not for me
trash
Stinky
this reminded me how my highschool bf would get so mad that i didnt like green day the album name does truly say it all
