Reviews (page 9 of 14)
There's a lot to like about this album. My favorite thing was how good they sound playing guitar.
Great sounds, not the biggest fan of the voice.
Classic Pearl Jam
Solid front to back from Pearl Jam. Not much else to say.
Man. Eddie Vedder's voice is really something. Added an extra layer to the already-great songs.
This album really made me feel Alive. Iconic album with a pretty unique sound. These guys rock.
clásico del grunge, jeremy y once mis favs
Taba bien, guardé mas canciones de las que esperaba.
Liked that. I can see why it's their best selling album.
They perfected the form of hard rocking. Pretty much every song starts on a loud part, but somehow transistions towards the end in even more noisy way. I think that is the way to rocking.
litt heavy men fakka egt med det ass
I think they would have been a band I’d listen to if I were in college a decade later. I like their sound and lyrics. They wouldn’t be my fav but I’d been on the bandwagon.
Instant nostalgia. This was on constant repeat as a 15 year old but haven’t listened to it since. Crazy how music takes you right back to a time and place. Ironic too given that Ive just had a massive spot emerge on me cheek. Could possibly blame Pearl Jam and not the bag of midget gems I polished off yesterday afternoon. Anyway… this is one of them albums that always gets into the ‘best albums of the 90s lists’ type thing, and rightly so. This was their debut album. How?! Sounds so much more mature, if that’s the right term. The songs that are great, are really really great. Black, Jeremy, Once, Even Flow, Alive, Why Go… all 10/10 songs in their own right. Even the lesser known tracks have quality, even if they arent quite as big sounding. Porch was a favourite of mine as a kid, but isnt the same now, and I used to skip Oceans as a kid but quite enjoy it now. Overall an excellent album, even if it’s one I probably wont listen to much these days. A strong 4.5
Pearl Jam only get called grunge because they are from Seattle and were big at the same time as Nirvana, when they are actually dad rock. Eddie has a great voice for rock and I think carries what is a largely standard selection of tracks, except for even flow and Jeremy which are both class. Ive tried to get into Pearl Jam a couple of times but they just don't grab me like other bands of the time. Why are there 11 tracks in album called Ten? Almost want to knock a point off for that. Overall I think it's a solid album but l feel other people are hearing something I'm missing, 3.5.
Alive and Jeremy were great. But I can't add anything more than what the other reviews say. 3.5, as the second half of the album is less bombastic and I got a little bored.
Not really listened to Pearl Jam properly so was glad this came up. Thought it was some great rock music, banging drums, quality riffs and a lead singer who can properly sing. Highlights: Once Even Flow Black Jeremy
Been meaning to give pearl jam a proper listen for years.... Sounded pretty much as I expected a pearl jam album to sound. I know they're considered grunge, but it's not really what I think of when I think of grunge.... The first half of this album is great. Thought the last half tailed off a little, they have a very distinct sound and it got a little samey. It's a good sound though! But even flow, into alive , followed by black and Jeremy is quality. Still hasn't grabbed me like they clearly do for others but when they're good, they're good
Classic for me. It's probably the only few Pearl Jam songs I've heard. My friend was big into these during our teens, but I guess I moved on. Favorite song: Black.
Thank goodness Spotify has lyrics for each of these songs 😂 “Even flow” and “Jeremy” have been modern enigmas to me since the 90s,, but alas! Today with the key 🔑 of lyrics I can decipher these cryptic tunes 🎼 I like this album, it kicked I’d the
The hits are hits for reasons, and even the "filler" is good. Somehow I never got into this when they were around.
Can't understand a thing they are saying but the vibes are right
Good, but drags. Too much of a downer.
Fine.
Buen disco Dentro del sonido auténtico y característico de Pearl jam
Another album from my youth. It still sounds pretty good, all these years later.
Even Flow!!!!
Takes me back to some good times...
It was alright though i was he could sing i little better though did like the guitar on the album would still listen to again. As i did overall like the album but wish his voice was more coherent though it does give something to the album and music 4/5
Grows with age like a fine wine. Suffers when compared to Nevermind - not comparable so don't do it. Couple of fillers.
Absolute bangers on this. Even Flow, Alive and Jeremy are all tremendous. Others are really good too but not just at the same level as those 3. Wish this had half stars as this might be a 4.5 for me
Not a week goes by without "Even Flow" popping into my head - the ultimate earworm.
Powerful voice and songs
Great album, I don't care what Fantano's bald headed ass says, Eddie is a great vocalist and he fucking kills it.
Great album but Pearl Jam is just not my jam!
Pues Pearl Jam. Termina mejor que empieza.
What can you even say about Ten? It has some incredible songs, some incredibly over played songs, and a couple forgettable ones. Great album though
Grunge was in its death throes as I was really getting into music, but nearly all of this album was still being beaten to absolute death by “alternative” radio. As such, I grew sick of most of this album having never listened to the whole thing. It is a pretty damn good album, but I have accepted that I will never outlive my Pearl Jam fatigue, which is only expounded by how many bands did their best Eddie Vedder impressions while making some supremely beige music. It sucks that I can never hear them on their own merits, but that’s my subjective reality.
Найс. Действительно джем из жемчужин.
I forgot how many hits were on this album. Great sound but side b has some filler. Over all still amazing.
Pues Pearl Jam. Termina mejor que empieza.
Good solid rock album
Classic 90s
Rock and roll baby
I have more context for this album now than I did when I first starting listening to it in the 90s as a kid. Maybe it's not so groundbreaking after all, but it's still a good album to listen to.
Sounds good. Not sure if it’sa 3 or 4.
I remember when this album came out. A coworker was absolutely smitten and played it for me (over and over). And I heard it then — there's an energy and power and confidence about this band and this debut album that is undeniable. More than a little of that comes from the band — Stone Gossard and the rest deliver in spades. But, of course, there's Eddie Vedder, and I guess he's a polarizing figure. All I can say is, I can't bear listening to him sing. He seems like a right-on dude, I admire the stance he and the band took on Ticketmaster all those years ago and he seems to be on the right (should I say "correct"?) side of social and political causes — so far as I pay any attention to what their stance is on anything. But god damn, it seems to me that half the notes he squeezes out are flat, or terrible, or ill-advised and there's just so much of him all over this music. It makes me want to inflict self-harm. So this may be the biggest disparity between a rating and my personal enjoyment of the music. A 4-star rating is all about me recognizing that this album was a landmark release and appreciating its brilliance and power and sheer excitement it stirs. But I can't fucking stand listening to it. This was a chore.
Pearl Jam is the perfect mix of classic rock and grunge which is why it’s so easy to understand how they are so ubiquitously enjoyed. A debut album that really brings the hits, Ten has some of the best songs by Pearl Jam. Eddie vedders voice provides that perfect grunge sound that’s fun to impersonate while singing. This album is solid and has endless replay value. 8.2/10
Couple really good songs here and overall high quality. J
Listened to this while playing Aeon's End with my partner against Magus of Cloaks. We lost twice. My partner knew every word to every song. I did not. I was in middle school in the 90s, but wasn't allowed to listen to music like this. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed this album. While not a perfect 5, it is a super strong 4. Black is a pretty freaking excellent song...it made me want to run over to my piano and bash out those chords at the end. Definitely better than I expected.
a nice rock album with some really good tunes
YEEEAHAHHHHH IIIIIII OOOOOOO IIIIIIII AAAAAA III'MMMM STIILLLLL ALLIIVVVVEEEEEEEE
Pearl Jam was never my favorite band from this era of grunge. I'm more of an STP fan. But this album is near perfect besides a small handful tracks and by far my favorite of theirs.
First four songs
God plade, med flere bangers - dog har jeg lidt svært ved at snuppe Eddie Vedders stemme ..
Qué pedazo de discazo para ser el primero, muucha energía vitalizante, me ayudó a arrancar la mañana a lo Javier Milei
Classic but known quantity
Pearl Jam betyr Cum - Fun fact som jeg nettop fant på. Dritbra album
Damn, fett!
First half: 5 stars Second half: 3 stars Total: 4 stars
I have to admit that some of this rating is based on nostalgia, as my dad absolutely loves Pearl Jam and this album, so I know each of these songs at least a little bit, but I still think this is a rather good release. Sure, Eddie Vedder sometimes sounds intelligible, but it feels so raw and honwst that it really works on tracks like Black and Yellow Ledbetter (not on this album) so I can't help but like it. Perhaps were I coming in fresh this would be a three, but I think this is a grand enough time to warrant the higher score.
Back to back greats on this one. Essential 90’s.
I used to love this album but it’s not the sound I’m looking for anymore. I still can’t rate it low because of the memories though
Good album!
black is a masterpiece i already knew, i liked like 3-4 songs other than that, unique sound probably was copied a lot since all of the album has the same sound (in a good way) same atmosphere was fine+
Cant give it a 5 because there are better albums in this year, but would be a 5 if I could understand what Eddie Vedder is saying more than 70% of the time.
No album felt so familiar with out ever seeking out any of the songs, and the Seattle in my vains made that grunge hit
Not sure I had actually listened to this entire album through before but thoroughly enjoyed it + the auto Spotify mix that came on after, more like my daily listening than any of the other albums so far!
Ariana Grande levels of diction
Eddie Vedder drank wine from the bottle when I saw him at the mariners stadium then belted out Black just as it sounds on this album
EVEN FLOOOOOW
Not so much the Stones to Nirvana's Beatles, as the Clash to Nirvana's Pistols perhaps. Listening to this album it becomes apparent that Nirvana's sound was a complete one-off, built from Cobain's singular songwriting and the trio's chemistry. So it was that on this a template was created that would power so much rock through the nineties. This also falls under the rare category of albums I love while also not being that tempted to explore the rest of the canon.
oh the flashbacks to middle school sleepovers at my friends' houses
Cool. I've heard most of these a million times. The ones I hadn't were fine, but I'm not going crazy about them.
An icon of the 90s. Good stuff.
I liked this album. Even flow, alive, and garden are all great songs and the rest of it is really well made, even including the weird ending of release. But for some reason I just don't vibe with it as much as I do. I enjoy early 90s alt/grunge type stuff and eddies voice doesn't bother me like it irritates some other people but for some reason Pearl Jam jsut isn't a slam dunk home run artist for me. This should be a 5 for me but I jsut can't get past a 4.
Oh that song by Pearl Jam. The Pearl Jam Song. EEEEEEVEN SADSKLDFSJFLJLSADJAL. ya know?
Once - god i have not listened to Pearl Jam in so long. the drums go much harder in Pearl Jam than i thought. i feel like i clocked them for being much softer than this. (5/5) Even Flow - it's the Pearl Jam song. (5/5) Alive - the other Pearl Jam song. (5/5) Why Go - this is just what Pearl Jam sounds like. i'm a little worried they have same-sound syndrome. it's like a grunge version of Metallica. While it's not bad the last three songs sound pretty same-y to me. (3/5 i want a change) Black - i'm starting to realize how many Pearl Jam songs i know outside of their most popular stuff. (4/5 i asked for change) Jeremy - i'm starting to think that i have listened to this album already. (giving christian rock heehee 4/5) Oceans - yes queen hit those notes. (4/5 much more big band feel. Phil Collins kind of vibe) Porch - get him off that massage chair! (5/5 roller coaster song) Garden - i can get behind being more lively. giving the guitar quite a spotlight (4/5 smooth and interesting guitar solo) Deep - i'm being screamed at. stop scaring Mr. Pearl Jam away! (4/5 had fun :>) Release - you tricked me into thinking the song ended. rude. fun psychedelic vibe going on at the end. this wasn't my favorite but this was a good listen honestly. the Pearl Jam i know and like 4/5
Some absolute beauties in this one
One of my mom's fav albums. 1st half is much better than the 2nd half but still a great album overall. Black is an imcredible song.
Definitely my personal favourite band of the Grunge Big 4. The front half is loaded with all the hits so the album runs out of steam a *tiny* bit in the second half but still, great stuff all around. 4.5/5
Pearl Jam was always my favorite of the big grunge bands This album played around the house all the time as a kid, and I listened to it really often in high school Love most of these songs. Some of them are a bit too long/overstay their welcome. Especially Jeremy. Beautiful poetry on many tracks (Black, Ocean, Garden, Release) Still overall an awesome revisit. Always found it weird how many people seem to despite this album/band online. 4/4.5 stars.
this band and album caused so much fighting between my friend group back in the day. could i write poetry to this? y
Love this album 😍
4/5
Very nice album!
Super grunge classic.
A good warmup album for our trip to Seattle. Oceans was a good one that I haven't heard before. The songs I already know on this album are all fantastic. Don't care for Release to end it all. Overall it's a good album, although I don't love grunge as a whole. Giving this one a soft 4 to be honest. The hits on this one help out a lot. Would be better if it was named Mookie Blaylock.
An album that I have listened to many times before and it is just as good as always. Alive, Black, Jeremy, and Even Flow are the first 4 songs on a playlist that I created in 2014 that I still listen to and add songs to. My favorite thing about this album is that it is named Ten because that is the number that NBA player Mookie Blaylock (which Pearl Jam was originally called) wore. In the interview which they stated this they thought it was funny that people thought Ten had some other significant meaning to them, but it was just for the bball player. Not a perfect album by any means but it was an great introduction into grunge to me in my early years and an album I will come back to many more times.
Never been the biggest fan of Pearl Jam or Eddie in general. Can respect their impact and their song writing regardless. Classic tunes all over the album, and it’s undeniable they wrote catchy, well arranged music. Maybe some day I’ll really dig into it, but for now I leave Ten at a soft 4.
Hell yeah, some pleasant dad rock grunge.
I cannot explain why I was so into this album. Not 5 star into it, but into it.
I enjoyed it, and I liked the overall sound of the album. Idk I don't really have too much to say bc I was frantically studying for my physics exam when I listened, so I wasn't paying as close attention as normal. But I never wondered when it was going to be over, which cannot be said for most of these albums. I think the only song I recognized was "Even Flow."
yeah ok this is fine. maybe just bc I listened to a lot of it in the car with my dad release is far too long though and I like long songs, it's just not doing quite enough
Pues Pearl Jam. Termina mejor que empieza.
Impressions: I have only listened to Nirvana and been sleeping on Pearl Jam. This is a genius debut album, nearly perfect, just gets repetitive towards the end. Favorite tracks: Even Flow, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Oceans, Garden Rating: 4/5
Solid album.
Better than I was expecting, given how prevalent Pearl Jam have been my whole life. Still not the biggest fan over all, and I doubt I'd like the later albums as much. Black remains my favorite from the album and the band
I think Peral Jam figured out what works for them and leaned into it, Songs all sound similar but are iconically rockful
Pearl Jam is really good overall but this album is sort of wandering, rather than focused. Part of that is Pearl Jam being Pearl Jam, which i guess is the point ... ?
Good
Once - mellow until the beat comes in. singers voice is iconic I grew up with Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy and Black. Loved the dark-ish vibe 12 year old me would feel. It was my emo-light/grunge era
Full of bangers for Pearl Jam - still not my "jam"
Hm for some reason I’m biased against certain 90’s bands on this list that I’ve heard too much on the radio growing up (Soundgarden, The Offspring) yet others I’m totally fine with (Green Day, yesterday’s Black Crowes) Definitely heard Pearl Jam one too many times, but maybe the album as a whole will be a better experience As David Byrne once said, 'and it was' I wouldn't say I learned much more from the deeper cuts than the aforementioned radio hits, but it's quality stuff throughout HL: "Even Flow", "Alive", "Black", "Oceans", I guess "Jeremy", + that weird hidden track October 15, 2023
Grunge pop
Rockin. Knew most of the songs already.
Definitely above average. I think the lyrics could have been better for most of the songs. Simplistic but also not a lot of rhyming. I can see why people liked this album. Favorite track: Garden
4,5
No skips. Nostalgic. Still love Black.
Me gustó, me gusta la profundidad de la voz, el instrumental para el tipo de género no me pareció avasallante o que hiciera perder el resto de los componentes de vista
Personal review: 7.8/10
Pretty good, sounds like he does yodelling at some points though
This album is good, I genuinely don’t really think there’s a bad song (maybe garden actually but Idk) but some tracks really overstay their welcome (especially Jeremy which is actually one of my favourites). So I honestly don’t know if I can feasibly call it a perfect 5 I always thought it was but I actually really don’t know so I’ll just give it a 4 .
Never listened to a single track on this album First time listening to pearl jam-2:28am Once:chill start, sick guitars. Dudes got great vocals Good slow headbanging piece 8/10 Even flow:I feel pretty relaxed listening to this. Fast vocals are great 9/10 Alive: feels very meaningful in a way, almost deep.great track I've lost my place in this album but it's just so fucking good. -2:47am Edit:The song was Why Go.amazing song. 2:51am Black:i feel like the sun is exploding in front of me This song is so fucking beautiful oh my god Jeremy: this songs awesome what else can I say Oceans:this song was weird but I loved it Porch:feeling really old 60s-70s type rock here and I really like it Garden: another chill one nicenicenice Shit alright this one's more emotional sounding Deep: such a cool fucking closer man oh my god Time of finishing: 3:30am I had a lil break between garden and deep to take a shit
the final song was incredible, and there were some other really nice moments here, but i went in with high expectations and was disappointed. i’m really not sure what it was but i just wanted more from this. technically pretty solid, just very much not as good as it could be.
Definitely remember this album. Decent hits. Classic 90's nostalgia.
Nice run
Kind of strides in and grabs your attention. A few tracks here are basically the sound of the nineties- grungy but with highly polished production and a growly vocalist in Eddie Vedder. But as radio friendly and stadium selling as they are, they manage that neat trick of sounding like they are just for you and your awkward teenage outsider self alone in your room.
Was actually surprised ben gave this a 5 based on my memory. but as i got through the album i realized it really is full of good songs. RELEASE ME
The first half of this is incredible but everything after Jeremy has just never stood out to me. The closer works very well but just doesn’t quite hold up to those first six songs
Ez 5 Once through Jeremy. Goes downhill starting with oceans. TLDR: First half is amazing and 2nd is okay.
a little too long. very good hits. the second half is noticeably not as good. especially the poopy buttcheek bt toxic chanting crap at the end. Black, Even Flow
Owned this when it first came out. I don't enjoy it as much anymore probably because it's been overplayed.
Another impressive debut album on this list, damn. Reading the blog was pretty fascinating to see how this band came together. The song material is pretty dark (I was not ready to read about the origins of Jeremy), and Pearl Jam's style never hits the nail on the head for me, but I've got to give it up this album is a high quality classic.
I like the hits on this (Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy) and the rest are OK. I just get really bored hearing Eddie Vedder's voice by the end.
Classic album from my youth. Still holds up today. Solid start and middle but the last few songs fell a little flat.
I liked the album. It felt like a good alt rock album with a strong beat and good voice.
I was first introduced to Pearl Jam in my first year of university. My then roommate was a fan of their stuff, and listened often. That summer after first year, I carpooled to my summer job with another friend of mine who was also a fan. I grew to enjoy their stuff so much, that I bought their greatest hits cd, Rearviewmirror, and played the shit out of it. This album has so many hits on it, and for a debut album, is insanely good. The band was super tight. Even Eddie Vedder's mumbling lyrics are fantastic! A lot of the time, it's hard to tell what he is saying, but it doesn't matter. The rockin musical accompaniment more than makes up for it. Overall, the album falls kind of flat with the last 4 songs, but who cares. An album that is a hit machine like this one is allowed to have a few duds on it. The first 3/4 of the album was hit after hit. Even Flow, Alive, Once, Jeremy, Black.... Just amazing. Favourite songs: Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy, Black, Once, Why Go Least favourite songs: Oceans, Garden, Release, Master/Slave 4/5
A band with a very distinctive sound, like Incubus. I love the singer’s voice and I really enjoyed the album so an easy 4*
Nice nice I knew few songs from it
Personal Enjoyability (out of 40): 30 Consistency of Quality (out of 25): 22 Keeps Interest (out of 25): 20 Album Flow (out of 10): 7 Overall 79/100 ★★★★ Quick Review: So close to being 5 stars. Each new song I listen to I think 'this will be the one that is filler' and then it builds into something interesting. Excellent vocals and guitars. The only thing holding the album back is that I don't think I'd include any individual song to put onto my playlists.
Five big hits: Once Even Flow Alive Black Jeremy. This album came out after my first year of university.
laut crazy gitarren sehr rockige sänger stimme hat mir gut gefallen rating wüsste ich jetzt nicht 8/10
There’s a reason this album is always on “best of” lists. A classic. Listen again: Yes Purchase for my collection: yes Favourite Song: Porch
very good 94/100
I really like Pearl Jam and this is a great debut. It's highs are super high but there are a few more filler tracks in my opinion, especially on the second half of the album. I wouldn't necessarily skip any songs on here but the non-standout tracks aren't as much my taste. Growing up I definitely fell more into the Nirvana camp when it came to grunge bands, not that there needs to be a side. Standout Tracks: Even Flow, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Release
Good, listen again
Genre-defining.
Banger
An album I've listened to a lot
A consistent if not always thrilling side two buoyed by a flawless side one.
I thought Pearl Jam was a 70s British rock band for some reason, definitely has a classic rock feel undercurrent beneath the 90s grunge. High energy album with a unique vocal style
4.5 stars. Vedder's impassioned, growling vocals drive this iconic 90's grunge rock album. The guitars, bass, drums all feel powerful and make this quite extraordinary debut record. Standouts are "Even Flow," "Alive," and "Jeremy."
Pearl Jam was one of those bands that I didn't really "get" when I was younger. I was much more of a Nirvana fan, and it was easy to reject other bands that I viewed as lesser than. So, this is the first time that I've actually listened to this as an album. It's easy to see why it's had such an enduring legacy. Nearly half of the album is hit songs, some of them mega-hits, and the rest is consistently good. The second half of the album is not as good as the first, but it's solid all the way through 4/5
Pues Pearl Jam. Termina mejor que empieza.
This is one of the first albums I listened to when I started exploring music. I always was a pretty big fan. I personally could understand someone not being a huge fan since Eddie's vocals can be very love it or hate it at time, I am obviously on the love side. I thought it was a perfect album the first time I heard it and while I don't think that now I still like it a lot. It is still an all-time great album to me but after listening to other albums from their contemporaries I personally don't think as highly as I once did. One thing I always like about Ten though was to me it always felt a little less raw and was a little easier to listen to than other Grunge albums like In Utero, Live Through This and Dirt which can be a nice change of pace at times. Either way great album with not a bad song on it 9.5/10.
This was the first CD I ever bough, back in the early 90s. Most of this is great, just a couple of tracks that I would usually skip.
The Mix: 5/5 The mix sounds fluffy and warm, which makes for a very unique listening experience for this genre. The guitar tones are some of the best I've heard and I can only dream of getting such a sound out of mine. Songwriting: 4/5 Love me some good riffs. This album had a cool blend of classic rock and grunge with a touch of metal. The only reason I rate this 4 is because I wasn't super into all of the lyrics. Performance: 4/5 I don't love Vedder's voice, though I recognize that's mostly because I don't like the style of his singing opposed to disliking the delivery of his performances. It does fit the style, but he can sound grating at times, and some of the way he shapes his vowels can come across forced. It's certainly unique, I'll give him that though. The guitar work was something special. Gossard and McCready's playing is incredible but more importantly they are incredible together. Their energy matches perfectly.
I never got into Pearl Jam as much as other Seattle bands from the grunge era and though most of them had their strengths and weaknesses, Pearl Jam emerged to the top, at least commercially and gained a large mainstream following. What's not to love, an impactful, power vocalist in Eddie Vedder and a talented band that were a great live band with many memorable songs. Their debut, Ten was undeniably an important record that had enough good songs to justify their popularity and though I've never owned or streamed this album (before now), I can't believe how many songs I've heard before. It's aged well and over 30 years later it's both a time piece to the era and a reminder that Seattle has produced some really good bands.
Like it
Very nice
Pretty good
Amazing grunge album. So easy to listen to from front to back.
Excellent album.
Amazing album. Honestly have avoided Pearl Jam for the longest time. Glad this came up. Really enjoyed! 4/5
Needs a relisten but fair few interesting tracks.
I had this album on cassette when it came out (like probably everyone my age did), but haven't fully listened to it in probably 30 years. What strikes me today is how fairly straightforward a rock sound this is, compared to what some of Pearl Jam's peers were putting out at the time. That explains a lot of their success. This is a band that rocks hard and is appealing to multiple audiences, but isn't afraid to go dark. Sometimes really dark. But this album fit in perfectly for the times in which it was made. Looking back at it now in light of the state of music today, it's amazing how many of these songs got major play on mainstream rock radio. These were massive, genre defining songs. A few of the songs are kind of samey and the album would have improved without them. But when the band gets it right, they hit it out of the park. Really an outstanding album, particularly as a debut. Fave Songs: Black, Alive, Even Flow, Once, Jeremy, Release
This is good. It's some solid grunge/alt-rock.
I never really got into Pearl Jam but this is another band that my wife had on high rotation except she had Vs. AFAIK this is my first listen to Ten and it's quite enjoyable especially for a debut with those well known tracks Even Flow, Alive, and Jeremy. For me the album really comes alive when Even Flow kicks off and keeps the energy high with a nice late night finisher at the end of Release.
It feels very grunge, hard rock and with a very upset rithym and lyrics about life. So much energy and pain. Its begging, which is very powerful and angry, is incredible released at the end.
those good PJam...
Very 90's! The singles are just too massive and it sort of takes away from the rest of the record. I feel like they got better on each album after this, probably their most popular album and far from their best but still really good.
Hot damn many of these songs were around a lot when i was a kid, it takes me to a certain time where i was still being introduced to new music. I see the 90s alt rock meets jam band feel in this record and its fantastic. Im reminded of dave matthews band quite a bit Why go home? Its past my bedtime. Very good record, would rate 4.5/5 if possible.
Very 90s rock/hard rock sound, I think the second part of the album is slightly weaker with too much repetition at times, but overall still an amazing album.
Classic but worn in a way. The solos seem gratuitous, and the drumming (much as one likes i) a bit dated and the record is overlong (like so many prime CD-era landmarks). Still, "Black," "Alive" and "Jeremy" were monstrous hits for a reason and much of the rest was very well executed smoldering moodiness, the artier side of grunge, say. Vedder an all-time vocalist of course, but the songs still sound as if they were painful for him to sing. Though some of it sounds a bit doofy today and they obviously wanted to be the coolest band in the land, this one has real teeth and merit.
Again, bringing me back to my teenage reminiscence, this album was a somewhat cleaner look at the gritty garage band work started by Nirvana. A little less compelling and emotional, it still embraced the low gruff voices of its time, and the songs are interconnected with experience, making this a comfort album much like Kraft Mac 'n Cheese is a return to dish, I return to these songs to feel another time. Favorite songs: Jeremy, Even Flow, Release
Great, classic album. Groundbreaking sound and songwriting. Contributed immensely to a fundamental shift in the industry.
EEEEEVEN FLOW I suddenly have an urge to buy a skateboard and steal a kid's lunch money. Goes hard. Definitely one of the biggest albums of the 90s.
PJ isn't my absolute favorite band from the 90s grunge era, but this album is a classic and I enjoy quite a few songs from it.
pretty good
"Ten" is the debut album by American rock band Pearl Jam which was formed by guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament after the dissolution of the band Mother Love Bone following the death of Andrew Wood. The songs were instrumental jams and reworked Mother Love Bone songs and newly added vocalist Eddie Vedder composed melodies and the lyrics. The music is classified as grunge, alternative rock and hard rock and the album was attributed as instrumental to the mainstream rise and success of alternative rock in the 90's. Looking back at it now, I would just classify this as hard rock. When I think of grunge musically, it's more Mudhoney, Alice in Chains and Soungarden nowadays. They do rock the flannel though. The lyrics are serious dealing with depression, suicide, loneliness and murder. An interesting fact: the title "10" is named after the number worn by NBA player Mookie Blayloch which was the first name of the band. "Once" opens with a weird intro by bassist Jeff Ament "Master/Slave" and then kicks in with the creepy guitar which goes more driving. The layered guitars. Serious lyrics and the second part of the momma-son opera "Mamasan Trilogy" and about a killing spree by the sexually abused main character. Apparently semi-biographical for Vedder. The guitar open and then the groove highlight their second single "Even Flow." The most Pearl Jam song I know. About homelessness and the inability to cope. The first single and part of the "Mamasan Trology" is "Alive." The anthemic vocal and musical choruses. The drama builds. A great guitar solo. The son discovers that his father is actually his step-father and that his real father died. Given his likeness to his father, his Mother sexually abuses him which leads to part two. Not letting up on the seriousness "Black" tells the story of a bad breakup in which he can't let go. I've always like mono-like guitar opening and bass drop. One of their bigger songs that was never a single. Speaking of big songs, "Jeremy" kicks off the album second half with its guitar and bass. Clasic rock. The famous video where, well, Jeremy goes into a classroom with a gun and it doesn't end well for him. Based on a real story. "Oceans" was the fourth and last single. The music builds and slows down. The albums ends with "Release" which I think is Vedder's best vocals on the album with him exploding at the end. The music sounds like Rush to me. That's a good thing in my world. It's about the relationship he never had with his father. I realized that the lyrics on this album were fairly serious and knew the Jeremy song but until today I didn't know the personal details. I think that adds to what I think of this album. The first half of this album is great, classic rock. It does let off in the second. The mix and sound are not great. Obviously, an album that comes to front of my mind when I think of 90's music.
4.5/5
it's good. super 90's, it's kinda weird listening like in 2023 for the first time.
Can we give some more respect to Pearl Jam please. If Kurt Cobain didn’t blow his brains out, Pearl Jam might have stayed bigger than Nirvana. This is their debut album, some of their best and most iconic songs came from this album, and we can’t even understand 95% of the words. Seriously, tell me more than 10 different words in Even Flow. You can’t. But the song still slaps, and so do all the others. Eddie Vedder has that voice that can sing the phone book. It booms over the echoing instruments in the background, and the instruments are also fantastic I should add. I could say more about this album, but I don’t feel the need to. It’s Seattle grunge, and I like Seattle grunge. The album, however, never brings me back. I actually space out my listens by a few months at a time because it’s a lot sometimes. Another fringe 5 that I can’t give a 5 because I know it’s not one of my all time favorites and I knew what to expect coming into it.
FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN a 4. I'm a big pearl jam fan and I thought my listening would be skewed by the mcat studying, but no, you can bop your head and study to this without losing braincells or retention, so class
Шикарный альбом ставлю 4, потому что по факту длится меньше часа, но по ощущениям - несколько часов; слишком затянуто
Truly incredible. Grungy rock vibes.
Not in the mood to listen to pearl jam
Huhhuh mitä biisejä napakymppi! Heh ten.. napakymppi.. ainut napakymppi.. on ukrainalaisdroonit venäläisvallihautaan.. plöts.. heh.. Elon tiellä.. Heikot sortuu elon tiellä.. toiset senkus porskuttaa...
So good, i enjoyed is through and through. Worth multiple listens because is rock but distorted with sound scapes the resemble early shoegaze
Very good. Lots of recognizable hits but the whole album flows really well from start to finish.
Personally find it kind of nuts how many of these songs are radio hits. I think the only reason the whole album isn't is because most of the back half is somewhat down tempo compared to the rest of the album. Amazingly solid overall.
Vedder has as unique a voice as any legendary vocalist. I respect that he was brave enough to go so far with his vocal ad libs. It could have gone really wrong. Jeremy is a great example of this. Loved the bass throughout the album. Favorite tracks: Even Flow Why Go Black Jeremy Deep - this track is probably my favorite, it's wonky and heavy and the guitar tone is so good Release - standalone this isn't the most amazing track but it's a perfect cathartic ending to the album Least favorites: Oceans - good song but it didn't fit the rest of the album for me Alive - I have heard this song enough to never want to hear it again Porch
Gran Album, muy potente y la voz de eddie es unica. La primer mitad es mucho mas solida que la segunda. Mucha coherencia entre temas
Have really only heard the radio hits but the whole album was really great. Enjoyed the whole thing not sure I would come back to it but dig it
Just as good as always
I have a lot of thoughts about this album. Pearl Jam are one of my favorite bands, but in my opinion this is a solidly mid-tier album for them. It’s undeniably a classic, with some great songs, and undoubtedly a large part of the reason they’re still a band today. However, they were hardly a band for a year before this album came out and while that young scrappiness is part of the appeal of this album, I don’t think they’d really hit reach the fullness of their sound until later in the 90s and early 00s. Eddie’s voice is great on this album, but he really came into his own later on and I think a big part of the reason his voice has kinda become a meme is because of how it sounds here. Also, too many terrible late 90s and early 00s bands seemed to base their entire identity on trying to copy this album without having any of the depth, insight, talent or vision that Pearl Jam has. All that being said, “Alive,” “Black,” “Jeremy,” “Porch,” and “Release” are all stone cold classic bangers.
Loved the guitar licks.
pretty groundbreaking for the time, ushered in the whole grunge era with Nirvana and others. I think Eddie Vedder's voice is a love it or hate it with no in between but this album is great. Black, Garden and Even Flow are repeats on my Spotify.
Pearl Jam are really hit-or-miss with me, with very little in-between. The irony is that the songs of theirs that I really like never get any airplay (I'm not sure if that makes me the hipster d-bag among their hipster d-bag fan base or not). I will, however give them their props for being original, never being formulaic, and for using the same into/outro to open, and close, the album.
Here it is, patient zero for the grunge boom. I picked this album up in early 1991 only because I knew the band would be playing a concert I was going to called Lollapalooza. Back then, Lollapalooza traveled from location to location instead of being fixed like it is today. From the moment I pressed play on the cassette of this new band I never heard of, I was hooked. Little did I know the tremble in the ground would shake the entirety of music. Ten is by far Pearl Jam's best album, and in the spectrum of grunge it is way up there. 4/5.
Once- this is a very full song, love the spoken ominous part👍 Even Flow- This is a sad but dramatic look at the life of a homeless man👍 Alive- Wild ride reading the meaning of the lyrics👍 Why Go- Not as compelling and a bit repetitive Black- melodramatic and not a big fan of outro but buildup of atmosphere makes up for it👍 Jeremy- very dark song about a shocking situation Ocean- lighter than most other tracks on this album lyrically, still big sound Porch, Garden- on the surface both of these songs can be seen as reflecting on a failed relationship, with a deeper meaning to be found👍👍 Deep-this is fine Release- long and has an uninteresting outro Great guitar work, I also like lyrics/concepts of songs. Eddie Vedders voice wasn’t my favourite. 4/5
Pearl Jam's Ten never took hold of me the way Nirvana's Nevermind did, but I grew to appreciate its qualities over time. Tunes aside, the songs here are very deep + touching. It's just a pity the album's second half isn't half as good as its first. Don't tell me it's been 30 years, I can't be that old
I enjoyed Pearl Jam when they first entered my radar in 1992. Eddie Vedde’s voice was distinctive and memorable.
I’ve never considered myself a big Pearl Jam fan, mainly because I find Eddie Vedder’s singing a bit ridiculous. That said, I actually really liked this. It was just a well put together album with compelling songs, with better musicianship than I tend to expect from grunge . 8/10
8/10. Pretty good, better than I was expecting even, but not a Ten
Has a really consistent sound that wears a little thin. 7/10
I've been listening to this album for years, but I made sure to give it another fair listen today. Once upon a time it meant more to me than it does now, and even though it isn't a favorite anymore, it's still great. You've got to give it up for such a strong first album that hasn't lost its relevance over 30 years later.
Alive is nice. Even flow pretty good.
Ok
This is the classic Pearl Jam record. Vedder's voice is so on point.
some really catchy tunes, i enjoyed all of the instrumentation, created a nice audio landscape, had a distinct sound, starts and ends with the same audio landscape so very nice album to loop , nothing bad to say
Three songs already liked from the album (Even Flow, Alive and Jeremy) added Once, Black and Porch. All other songs weren’t bad, no disappointments
I’ve never given Pearl Jam much of a chance. I remember playing Even Flow on Guitar Hero and thinking Eddie Vedder sounded like he was singing with a mouthful of marbles. Songs I already knew: Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy Favourites after listening: Even Flow, Alive I enjoyed this quite a lot more than I expected to. Again, the singing style can be a little unintentionally funny at times but it honestly just added to my enjoyment. The music is excellent - you can’t really go far wrong in my eyes if you have plenty of wah pedal in a song. I will say that the best songs from this album were definitely the ones that got made into singles, as the rest fell slightly flatter and didn’t seem to pack quite as much punch. Not to say they were bad, but you know what I mean. Overall, I’d recommend. I didn’t think I really liked grunge music, but I did enjoy this.
nostalgia-arvo on mulle iso, mutta onpa myös oikeasti tosi hyvä levy. alusta pitkälle kunnon hittiputki, taso säilyy! ihanaa.
i love an old school hidden track
I took me so many years to appreciate Peal Jam, and all it took was to sit down and listen through all of Ten without distraction. Could be a bit less classic rock, especially in the second half
Really bloody good
Some very good stand out tracks on this, a bit is a little sleepy though, like the second half of Release.
Alive Black Even Flow
A flashback to 90's Seattle is never bad. This grinding innovation of grunge brought music away from the stadiums tours and television sets and dumped it right back into the smokey, dark, basement clubs where it plays best.
Running on all five cylinders!
Pearl Jam's debut fits well into their Seattle grunge landscape, but more so than other bands of that scene, Pearl Jam pay homage to their classic rock influences and aren't afraid to throw a 70s inspired guitar solo in the mix. Pearl Jam rock hard, but are not adverse to more exploratory and deliberate work as heard on the final track. This sets them above other more cookie cutter alternative acts that would follow. Eddie Vedder's voice and delivery have been imitated by an entire generation of lesser frontmen, but here, he sounds raw, explosive, and controlled. The lyrics are personal and overall, it is a very enjoyable album.
WHY WHY CAN'T IT BE OH CAN'T IT BE MINE
Slow grunge vibe I already heard Alive but it was nice to hear some more of their music Would listen to again
I've referred to my other half for judgment and she reliability informs me it's a cracker that reminds her of her teenage years.
Great album, love all the hits, the rest are good but a tad forgettable.
4. one of the few albums from the 90s that i enjoyed more now.
I had heard close to half the album prior but I had a solid experience, about as pearl jam as it gets
Surprisingly to similar to metal/hard-rock from that era, especially in first few tracks. Black is a great song. Highlight of the album. Love it. Overall a solid album, well written, performed, recorded and mixed, but I was not terribly interested for the most part. Vocals stand out the most, but not in a good way, and everything else is almost boring. Certainly would not be in my own top 1001 albums.
Good rock
Not bad
Making fun of Eddie Vedder's singing is fun but this album brings the hits
Nice
85/100: This is just a fantastic album nearly all the way through. I say “nearly” because the album does drag a bit between “Jeremy” and “Release,” but every other part of this album is so packed with incredible songs that this lull is more than excusable—like a lull in conversation between two good friends, it’s bound to happen and can even be comforting. To have songs of the caliber of “Even Flow,” “Alive,” “Black,” “Jeremy,” and “Release” all on the same album is mind-boggling, and for it to be on their debut album is even more impressive. Eddie Vedder’s voice is just so soothing to listen to, although it is a part of the reason this album isn’t receiving a higher score than it is. I think a lot of the songs on this album aren’t necessarily great songs in and of themselves, but sound as great as they do solely because of Vedder’s style of singing. With any other lead vocalist on this album, I think it instantly becomes a lot closer to mediocre.
Great lyrics and very textured. Very emotional and well played album
Nostalgia tinted.
Had the chance to see this tour in a small Philly venue. Didn’t go! Such energy, one of my musical concert-going regrets.
I know a few songs by Pearl Jam and I was pleased to see that most of them are on this album. I really enjoyed it and will definitely listen more. Really solid album.
Jeremy was a revelation to me - I'd never heard Pearl Jam before - completely brilliant, so I was looking forward to this album. Disappointed to find this isn't the mix/version I'd heard and it's not as good. Some great tracks, though: Release is a standout. Eddie Vedder's vocals are amazing. As they say, 'it doesn't get Eddie Vedder than that'.
Somewhat difficult to rate. It's an important record in defining a genre. It's super influential. It's also not really all that great. Some of the things it influenced were quite bad; by which I mean that without grunge there would be no post-grunge which is some of the vilest, dog shit music in existence. Nirvana is to blame too but we all know that Pearl Jam played their part There are good songs. The singles are all pretty great, except for Alive which I could do without. Jeremy and Black are just plain gems. Evenflow is good but like the other 3, I'm kinda burned out after hearing it 10000 times in my life. Aside from the singles there's some ok songs such as the opener, but nothing as good as Jeremy or Black. I feel like I'm rambling at this point. It's a record that's more important than it is good, though there are gems to be found. I personally think they have much better records than this. A 4 out of respect, but its more like a light 3 to my ears
Formative album for me. Listened to this on repeat in Dad’s car for YEARS! First half of the album is filled with great songs and then I feel it slows down in the second half.
This album reminds me of being at school and listening to it on my Sony Walkman!
I can't deny that this album is really influential and important, but even on a full listen I don't love Pearl Jam. That said, I had no idea how many hits were on this album alone, kind of mind blowing in that way. As an album it's enormous, so it gets a higher rating than I would give Pearl Jam alone.
Enjoyable enough, but the core problem with a lot of the 90s alt rock and grunge is bloat. I'd probably rate it a lower 4 because I do like it, but it is not quite on par with the other 4s I have, so it gets a bit of an asterisk *.
Ten is one of those quintessential rock albums of the 90s. Coming around the time of Nirvana, it's another album that helped the grunge/alt-rock movement shoot straight into the consciousness of the mainstream - no matter how much they were maligned as sellouts - eventually even outselling Nevermind. The lyrics tend to lend themselves to heavier subjects, pretty much standard for that alt-rock scene. What brings this album alive is the anthemic sounds on tracks such as Jeremy & Alive. Best: Jeremy Worst: Release
Were these guys the originals? I don't know as this scene is so incestuous and fatuous now with claims and counterclaims. These bands seem to be legion and identical and spawn a multitude of self-important fans and even the people who give this a single star only do it as a reaction against the whole scene regardless of class or content. But the music isn't bad and it's well structured and professionally played and I guess this IS kinda the beginning and to be honest and I do know half the songs and actually do like them so what more is there to be said?
You know I've never really sought out Pearl Jam or considered myself a fan at all but listening to this album I realize how much of it I've absorbed via cultural osmosis and just how much nostalgia I have for it. These are some absolutely killer grunge songs that still hold up today.
31 years on and still a monster, one I've warmed too much more in my forties and fifties
Muito bom.
This is one of the big two albums that really got the ball rolling for the grunge movement - the other one being, of course, Nirvana's Nevermind. However, this album is to Nevermind as Rock is to Punk. I prefer the more rock oriented sound that's prevalent here - great songs, great lyrics, great melodies, great riffs. And while I'm not a big fan of the grunge genre, this album is one of its finest momens. 4/5
A classic ! Great intro to 90s jam out grunge
Nice, I enjoyed this one. Good vocal delivery, good guitars and decent songs. A fun album that can justify more than one spin. However, it's not all that original or creative enough to really be great.
Genre: Grunge 4/5 Another 90s Seattle-based grunge classic, Ten by Pearl Jam hits all the right notes, both heavy and soft, throughout its run time. While their sound has been somewhat parodied over the years, most notably for Eddie Vedder's distinct singing style, which spawned legions of soundalikes in the genre, this album is filled to the brim with some of the most essential rock tracks of the 90s. Even after we've listened to Alive and Even Flow, Pearl Jam gives us their best from beginning to end. Beyond the aforementioned tracks, two of the biggest rock singles of the decade, we're gifted with plenty more great tracks. The 6-track run to start the album is tremendous, with Black and Jeremy rounding out one of the best opens to an album in the entire decade. It makes the second half sound a bit stale in comparison, but it still has some pretty good jams. While Vedder is an acquired taste, his vocals aren't nearly as overbearing or annoying as a Bob Dylan or an Elvis Costello is. His voice sits on top of the hard rock arrangements like the missing puzzle piece, never taking away from the quality of the production behind him. Overall, a resounding success, and an album that'll be replayed for years.
4.75
Now this a band I've always kinda liked but never deep dived into them. Pretty good.
There is no doubting that Pearl Jam is a popular band. I would not describe myself as a Pearl Jam fan or really a fan of grunge music, but I had a pulse in the 90s so I know the music and I was familiar with a lot of the songs on the album. The album was just under an hour. I don't think I will listen to the whole album again, but some of the songs will get replayed and they aren't bad. The album is better than other albums that have received 3s so this will get a 4.
When this album came out I listened to it non-stop for months. I'm happy to say that this mostly holds up for me. At the very least, the music is ambitious in a way that a lot of the copycats after them weren't. It veers into self-seriousness a little but somehow manages to stop short of it. Or the worst of it, maybe. This is another album where the vocalist is what pulls me through - it doesn't really matter what gobbledy-gook he's singing, I believe it.
Runs out of puff a little on the final furlong, but for fans of classic rawk-oriented grunge, this is top notch. Bangers sprinkled all over the place on this platter. I will say this - as impressive as Vedder's voice is, I do find it a little bit of a battering ram at times. A little more colour in the singing and instrumentation might have pushed this into five star territory. Still - all very listenable!
Yeah, not a ton to say about this one. I was pretty much the right type of kid at the right time for this, though for whatever reason I mostly checked out of hotel Pearl Jam after the next album. I think it's because, as mentioned, at the end of the day they're primarily a band riffing on classic rock and the thing that truly differentiated them was Vedder. As he tamed down his vocal theatrics over the years (for the better, in a lot of instances) I guess that thing that made them different to me stood out less and less and my interest just went elsewhere. Either that, or the songs just weren't as good as they are here. The singles hold up and I particularly enjoyed hearing "Oceans" again. I forgot about that song. It's good. Fun fact: a year or two ago David Gordon Green told me he went to the same school in Texas where the "Jeremy" kid shot himself. I think he said they closed down the room to classes for a couple years, but everyone knew about it. Maybe Andy knows more about this six degrees of Kevin Bacon, but that's all I got.
Listened to on 4/22 4/5 Favorite song: alive, black Oh hell yes give me all the Pearl Jam in its finest 90s rock - genuinely so good
Loved this as a kid. Now it sounds rather overwrought and overproduced. I tried listening to the "redux" mix instead, but it was also dated, just in a different way. Back to the original murky mix and got through it. Enjoyable trip down memory lane. Don't think I'd have liked it as much if I was coming to it fresh, but because of my history with it, this album gets a glowing 4 stars.
I'm really not a Pearl Jam fan, but I have to admit that this album is excellent. It's an incredible start for the group (and they will never do better in my opinion), which offers memorable songs like Once, Even Flow, Alive, Black or Porch. These tracks are particularly powerful on stage. Gotta be honest and give it its due : a good rating.
Listened Before? Y This one! This is the good stuff! I love this album. It's front-to-back bangers and 90s nostalgia. This album FEELS like 1992. I love it. Added to Library? Y Songs Added to Playlist: Even Flow, Once
Surprised by this one. Never listened to it on release apart from the singles. Will definitely return to this and possibly couldnbe a five star after further listens.
Dit album heb ik als tiener grijsgedraaid, gek genoeg kon ik er nu meer van genieten 🙂. Lekker tempo en energiek.
Great album with amazing singles however the rest of the tracks are significantly worse. As a whole Ten is still very good if a little inconsistent.
Nevermind's more stadium-friendly cousin in the grunge wars. Maybe holds up a bit better than that one? Listened to the Brendan O'Brien remix. Unsure if that makes the record sound more or less "90s" as a result. Had forgotten how "metal" the guitar work here is. "Master/Slave" is still an unnecessary indulgence.
Better than average rock - 3.8
Seemed a harmless little fuck
Almost made me a fan of pearl jam
Enjoy Pearl Jam...it had been a long time since I had listened to Ten cover to cover. Was surprised on how much filler there was. The hit songs are HUGE but it doesn't wow me as a complete product. 3.5/5
It was a solid album, good lyrics and strong songs. The standout to me was the guitar work.
Grunge classic. I was never into Pearl Jam as a kid, but I can see why they were so highl my regarded.
Wasn't looking forward to listening to this one but pleasantly surprised. There's too much filler with a low level of memorable tunes or/and riffs. However 'Alive' is a brilliant 5 star track so I nearly forgive them all.
An album full of bangers.
The rise of grunge, the 90's in an album. Eddie Vedder has a raw and raspy voice. Nice progression in the chords and melody. I can hear a Hendrix influence in the clean guitar tones. So beautiful.
Rocking out to this brought me back to high school.
4.5
Don't quite know why I never listened before, love it!
Some of the true classics of that era.
I dig it
A bit of filler, but 4 stars on the backs of Alive, Black and Jeremy.
Absolute bangers on this Jeremy, evenflow, black, and alive. Everything on this is super solid.
4/5 you know what, that was good!
Rock solido. In alcuni pezzi vogliono solo farci vedere quanto ce l'hanno lungo.
Full on 90s angst. Perfect for slaying vampires to.
great album all round
In high school I routinely said Pearl Jam was my most hated band of all time. I was wrong. Pearl Jam are good and this album is very good. I think I just really hated that cover of Last Kiss.
Heard the first three tracks on it before, just not the album itself. Passed me by a bit in the end, but would happily listen again – I like Vedder's voice a lot.
I'd listened to this one in passing a couple of times but was never sure whether it had the makings of a varsity athlete. Listening to it 'properly' to it this time and it has swayed me. The first half especially is stellar and right up there in the 5* basket. The second half loses momentum slightly, though, and is the only thing keeping it from hitting the heights of full marks.
Classic album. I've cried to it, I've rocked out to it, I've been everything to this music because it was there for me as I shaped into who I am. Love this album
Just a great album. Eddie Vedder's voice has this charm to it that only really grew on me over the years.
Very pleasing with some bangers in a row
Crazy how many classic songs are on here. I don't really care for the deeper cuts though.
Hard to give this any lower than a 4. It would be a straight 4 compared to Alice in Chains as a 4.5. Hugely important grunge milestone, though (while unfair to it) was so overplayed that I can't help but be a little numb to it.
Sounds like Pearl Jam!
extremely catchy rock. a more mature sounding AC/DC
Auch wieder so ein Ding, das ich damals nie durchgehört habe. Pearl Jam sind ganz groß.
