Solid.

A great album

i'm sure i would've liked this more at the time if it hadn't been for the fan club. not wanting to be associated with assholes kept me from giving this much of a chance back then - i'd never listened to the whole thing, for example - although i knew about half the tracks. which is kind of amazing, really: that's a lot of tracks getting a lot of airplay for one album. eddie's voice is as awesome as i remember, and i still love the floating guitar and fuzzy bass. but christ, for all that, just the memory of a thousand shitheads wearing pearl jam shirts and backwards baseball caps, man...dickheads, (almost) all of 'em.

Pretty good album. Some metal flourishes I could do without, but there's no denying Eddie Vedder's talents as a singer. Impressive vocals. I thought I didn't "know" Pearl Jam but I was shocked how many songs I was familiar with and impressed by; Black was the most impressive song for me and I also ery much liked Release. This almost felt like greatest hits album. 4 🌟

Enjoyable but not massively exciting

A classic pearl jam album, so classic that almost everyone knows atleast 4 or 5 songs off of this album. A highlight is release.

Fantastic. Dark.

Packed full of cracking songs.

Not my type of music necessarily but I see the appeal!

You know, I kinda dig it. This is one of the foundational 90s albums with some iconic songs. Vedder has a unique voice but the grungy grime of the guitars and beats are classic.

potentiaalii löytyy, muihi verrattuna helppo 4/5

Actually good rock

Already listened to this one today before generating the album, what are the odds! very fun listen with some amazing hits, but some songs are a little forgettable.

Awesome album.

Not my style but this album is very good. Lots of passion, great mix, songs feel genuine.

A solid Pearl Jam album for sure, but I don't find their brand of 90's rock particularly exciting!

A modern classic, much of its time but also timeless.

This album helped Pearl Jam find their voice and take the grunge genre mainstream. While this album leans more towards Rock and Nirvana's efforts toward Alternative, this album is loaded with attention to detail and groundbreaking subject matter. This ground-breaking effort has proven to be a lasting force.

Classic grunge. Best Tracks: Even Flow, Alive, Porch

Great album but doesn't quite do it for me like it did 15 years ago

Some songs slow, some are classics

I am so biased.

Another album with some classic hits that I never listened to fully. I enjoyed rocking out in the car to this one. Even Flow and Alive are probably my two favorite Pearl Jam songs so this album was a win regardless. I know Jeremy is a big one too but it never caught on with me. Very iconic cover but I wonder what they are reaching for? Ten feet?

This reminds me so much of Darren. wild and thoughtful, occassionally way too obtuse for me to get it

This is really good actually

Very good

Pleasantly surprised by this album. A very strong grunge/hard rock sound with no overly weak tracks. 8/10, pretty cool

Classic

Rock suave. Muy bueno

A bit of a classic here. I’ve always loved Eddie Vedder’s voice, even if as a joke. This is just a cool rock band, seemingly lost in time. They rocked in the ‘90s for sure, but I wonder if they would’ve rocked even harder in decades prior. Some of their best songs on here too, so great album choice. Favorite tracks: Jeremy, Even Flow, Alive, Garden, Black. Album art: Borderline pathetic. This seems like a “greatest hits” parody cover. I actually thought this was a greatest hits when I saw it, it’s so lazy and lame. Good thing the music’s good. 4/5

Very nice

Mad jams! I can't believe how many hits this album had. For Grunge music, this is probably top 3. Wow, well done.

Great listen - only knew a few of the songs really well

Overall good! Would’ve been better listening during a workout or road trip rather than during work, but a fun intensity. Recognized most of the songs, but it was nice to listen to them in context of the album

Used to absolutely tear up Even Flow on Guitar Hero lll

It was okay, might listen to it later again

Gone to sport shop

Enjoyed this. Not sure how I missed it first time but reminded me very much of the time. Counting crows and G n R in there in places

Hard to deny, some legendary songs on this album

Pretty good. Like Dave Matthews but more rock.

Better than expected - not really my thing but great in places.

This album is the reason people care about Pearl Jam. Good alt rock album from a better than average alt rock band.

There's no denying the massive size and scope of this album. A definite high point for the band. Best track: Even Flow

Favorite track: "Jeremy"

Hated it when growing up (was on the Nirvana camp). But it’s a good rock record with an excellent singer

A bit overrated Arena rock Guitar dominates. Alive is a good song. Songs sound the same An average album. Three stars

classic, fine, i can see why this was a Big Deal at the time

why are there 11 songs

Mumble mumb oh yea, ah yeaa cotton wool fills mah mouth, oh yea-ea-eyeh

I dunno if Pearl Jam is my thing, but I liked this album! Garden is a certified banger.

It's alright. His voice is not my favorite though.

I'm little annoyed that I'm getting the same kind of albums here. Pearl jam sounded the same as deep purple. The album was good, a one time listen and that's it. Songs I liked Even flow

It's alright, some of the songs have a good flow, some of them are monotonous. Some of them are the right length, others keep repeating themselves for the sake of it. Some of them try to be better than grunge, some of them are just grunge.

I missed out on Pearl Jam when they were first getting big, and I never bothered to go back and catch up. Eddie Vedder seems like a good guy, and over the years I’ve heard snatches of their stuff that sounded ok, but there wasn’t much in this album that made me want to do the journey retrospectively.

Reminds me of 8th grade. At the time was the best thing ever, but looking back yeah it's an OK album. So much yarling.

i liked this ! it’s very up my alley. this is definitely going in my rotation and i will recommend but i also know that i should really deep dive the lyrics more before i completely decide so this is my first time on this website so let’s see if i can go back and edit this after i lyrically dissect

admire it but not for me

Album # 190 Pearl Jam: Ten I was a little late to exploring grunge; obviously, I enjoy some Nirvana, and I had checked out Soundgarden because of my love for Black Hole Sun, but other than that I was pretty ignorant to the scene. I was playing a lot of Skate and getting Even Flow edits for the game, which compelled me to check out Ten. The typical consensus that seems to be spread amongst Grunge fans is that Nirvana were inspired by the 80s alt rock bands like Pixies and Dinosaur Jr., Alice in Chains and Soundgarden were a lot more metal influenced, and Pearl Jam were the more radio-friendly hard-rock, Rust-era Neil Young, influenced band; which judging off those descriptors, I would assume Pearl Jam to be my favourite. And after listening to Ten and revisiting it now because of this list, I do think the album is good, and so is the band, but I don’t have the overwhelming love for it that I expected. Songs like Black and Jeremy are often parroted as being some of the greatest ever written, and though they are undeniable great songs, they just don’t have that effect on me that other all-timer songs do (like Black Hole Sun and Would?). I’m not even into metal, yet I prefer Alice in Chains and Soundgarden; Pearl Jam somehow suffer from sounding too much like their influences, which comes off as derivative, and also sounding too much like the butt-rock bands that tried to imitate them, which has polluted their sound. I also think that the vocals maybe hold the songs back from truly connecting with me; perhaps I just can’t fully get invested in a guy who sounds like that. Ultimately, I’ve been fairly critical, but I still do enjoy the album a good deal, and there are some great songs here; I really feel like this should be a favourite of mine, and for some reason, it just isn’t. Best Songs: Black, Even Flow, Alive Worst Song: Deep Score out of 10: 7.5

i am a mark for grunge but pearl jam has never been a band i particularly find interesting, probably something to do with Eddie Vedder. slot it in the "cool but don't think i'm ever returning to this" zone.

5/10. Not my favorite

Ohkay....

Doesn't really do much for me tbh. I did perk up at 'Even Flow', that's that song, you know from Tony Hawk Pro Skater. I forget if that was a video or actually in the game, but I have this lingering feeling Jesus is somehow involved. Bro idk Anyway, album itself is fine. Not much that I would put on again, but it's alright. It kinda gives me Dad rock, and not the type that you actually find out is fire. Fav Track: Even Flow

worse than i remember

Not my fave, but I def have some nostalgia for Even Flow and the other singles as a former Guitar Hero Boy

The lead singer voice drones a bit for me. I like the overall sound though with guitars

Rather overrated but good!

Sluggish with sparky, sizzling guitar; eruptive, clapping drum parts; and punching with Vedder's shredded vocal stylings - this album is quintessential 90's grunge-rock. I can fully appreciate this album for what it is, an impeccably produced rock project, well performed and written, and destined to appear at some point in the P3 club in an episode of Charmed, but this just really isn't my style of music, and I genuinely struggle to imagine a time where I would voluntarily put any one of these songs on.

I was once a hipster doofus who would have given this one star out of spite. I am not that doofus anymore; this is fine.

Ehhhh, was kinda honest tho? I mean it did jam, Sean was right

Pearl Jam's Ten is 100 percent an album that should be included on this list. It was a landmark album of the grunge era, and for better or worse (worse in my opinion), Eddie Vedder's vocal style was ripped off for the next 20+ years in alternative rock spaces. Overall its a solid album and listen, but just not my vibe. Some of the bigger songs ("Evenflow" "Alive") are good enough to revisit, but I have never loved Eddie Vedder's voice.

Not my cup of tea but I respect the hustle

Big feelings central, a bit. To me it's sensitive music, very moody, and I found it fascinating how some people might take this as the pinnacle of music, while the rest is cheesy pop songs. I don't even mind this music, but this is like a 5 cheese pizza, cheesiest possible thing. Tha being said, the album itself I like, it has cool moments, especially the start is quite strong and I was very into it. The back half feels a bit more weighed down. I also don't think it's that special of a sound, because there is not much harmonizing between songs, they all sound alike and like other songs. The lyrics are what makes this interesting to me I suppose, and those are CEO of big feelings central

LOVELY overall for someone who doesn't really go for rock. most saves to my playlist were from this album so far. despite not seeing much appreciation I loved oceans as it gives me a foresty vibe almost like the na'vi from avatar. Very beautiful. Adored it. other favorites have to be garden, black, and even flow. perhaps even release.

Not a bad album by any means, just feels a bit too polished and tame compared to other grunge pioneers.

In the world of american blue collar rock this does more than a decent job at updating the heartland rock bands of the 70s and electric Neil Young to the 90s.

Saved? ✅ Would listen again? ✅ Would recommend to anyone? 🤔 Would buy on Vinyl?✅

5.5/10

I've mostly respected Pearl Jam from a distance. Never really engaged with them beyond the singles. Black is a tremendous song. "I know you'll be a star in somebody's else sky" is such a gut-punch of a line.

Never warmed to Pearl Jam for some reason, although I loved their proto-group Temple of the Dog. This time through I enjoyed this album a lot more, mostly due to Mike McCready's guitar. Vedder's vocals and lyrics just don't do it for me, I'm afraid.

Pretty cool album. Never caught the wave though when they first burst on the scene so I'll only ever be body surfing to their music.

Fun enough.

Surprisingly enjoyable. Very nostalgic for guitar hero, some bangers

I've never been a fan of Pearl Jam, I rather prefer groups as Soundgarden. For me this record sound excessive bombastic.

I'm not a huge fan of male vocals when it comes to grunge, but in spite of that and the general cock rock sound here, this really grew on me and I think could continue to. Some really good songs here. Shoutout to that trippy outro jam on 'Release'.

Cool grunge-y album which I enjoyed more than I expected! Some epic songs with brilliant riffs (Even Flow is a banger), but equally it's slightly too long and gets a bit same-y by the end. 7/10

I really liked the beginning but I feel liked it dragged almost at the end a bit but none the less it was a solid project.

Pearl Jam has a unique and recognizable sound and the singles from this album were very familiar. While I enjoyed reading about its significance I didn’t come away with much else.

First Pearl Jam album - wonder if there’s even any more in here cause it seems like all their most popular songs were in this one. Regardless, don’t think I’m a huge fan of them.

Eh, very repetitive and not really to my taste but good cool background for the most part

NO ES MI TIPO DE MUSICA QUER ME PONDRIA A ESCUCHAR PERO ESTA BUENO, tiene temones 3/5

I think it's just…not attractive to me

An album of its time. Massive when it came out, and helped define the early 90s rock scene, but it hasn't really stood up to the test of time. Even Flow, Alive, and Jeremy are more nostalgia trips than actual good songs.

Still not a fan of these guys. There's a few decent songs, but pretty meh on this as a whole. 3/5

A grunge classic, some absolute bangers on here, however it does go a bit dad rock at times. Reminds me of emo teenage years and my attempt at learning alternative music history as fast as possible<3 Favorites: Even Flow, Alive, Jeremy Rating: 6.8/10

Not the biggest Pearl Jam fan and some of the songs felt like they dragged on/were a bit slow. But I enjoyed parts of the album and consider it pretty solid.

Diminishing returns after Even Flow and Alive, at least until Release

A nice enough listen. Didn't thrill me, but understand their influence on rock and progressive.

Pearl jam has never been my favorite - the song writing relies far too much on melodramatics of Vedder's vocals in a way that ages far more rapidly than it's grunge contemporaries. That said their debut is without a doubt there best work but if this is the peak...

An okay album, I liked Why Go and Black the most.

this album reminded me of a time that i've only experienced through media but long for. the grungy and alternativeness brings in a feeling of longing and nostalgia. for some reason, it takes me to a time of being in oregon, cloudy days, and dive bars. it's full of great guitar breakdowns and melodies. eddie vedder's voice providing a key to a specific time of life.

Knew jeremy, fine album, good tracks

Decent album with some good guitar solos and good tracks

Even though I recognize the album's musical merit, and in some ways it has been groundbreaking: Goddammit, I've always disliked Pearl Jam.

The slightly more modern rock was nice but it quickly developed its own kind of sludge

its a more upbeat grunge album. I stick to heavier ones like aic: I liked more late songs in the album like from Garden, Porch, Jeremy, Release. I appreciate it is a an alternative album to ones already main stream like Nirvanas.

nifunifa

An incredibly successful first album but not their best. I still like it more than most of the grunge of the era.

Grunge is not my thing. Still pretty good.

Not my style but good music

Jeremy is great, a poetic indictment of school shootings before it was vogue to sing about. The rest is about whatever eddie vedder can mumble wail his way through.

Not a Pear Jam Person

fav songs: once, alive, black, porch, garden

3.5 maybe, some 90s classics but honestly just not my favorite vibe

I listened to this on cd in the background. Found it in my dad’s old collection and thought I wouldn’t enjoy it. But yk it was actually pretty decent with not rly any stand out songs but just good background music 7.1/10

I watched the show "Pantheon" recently (well, roughly 500 albums ago) and it used the song "Alive" by Pearl Jam in a scene, which reminded me that this band existed. I had heard some of this before, and I think it's pretty good, but the sound starts to feel a little generic about halfway through. It never stops being fun, though. Favorite track: "Alive"

OK, so this album did indeed exceed my expectations. However, I still didn't really care for it. I don't think it's their fault though, this album was so massive that it was overplayed. What surprised me more than anything was the sheer number of hits that all appear on this album, I had always assumed they were scattered across multiple albums. Objectively a great album, Pearl Jam is just worn out on me after growing up hearing them everywhere. It doesn't suck, but I don't really like it either, so a solid "meh" from me.

meh, encore du rock

Classic.

Pretty decent. Might need to listen to it again to appreciate it.

A bunch of great tracks, but also a bunch of forgettable ones. Could be better.

455/1089 - I'll admit I have an irrational dislike to Eddie Vedder's voice. Stuffy, slurred, sharp, and whiny to my ear. It's been a while since I listened to Pearl Jam however, and it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. The drumming was really good and dynamic. There isn't really anything that stands out to me musically however. In terms of the big four: Nirvana has excellent harmony, Soundgarden has excellent rhythm, and Alice in Chains has the most metal influence. Pearl Jam doesn't really have any standout characteristics I think. Overall it's decent and I enjoyed it waaaaaaaay more than I thought I would.

Didn’t mind this one to be honest - some songs I knew and liked

Fav song from album: Black

Prima, leuk album.

When underbites stalked the earth. I agree with the band about the reverb but you sort of accept it as the album rumbles and grunts along. I hated them at the time because I did feel it was sort of an insult for them to be marketed as 'alternative' and in the same breath as Nirvana. Listening now I can set aside all that and accept them as a continuation of American classic rock. I'll never love it but at least they have a wide eyed sincerity lacking in plenty grunge and post-grunge opportunists.

The tones of a million mouldy 90's teenage bedrooms. All the moody, selfish, confused, horny, depressive, BO-infused brainfarts distilled into sound. Alive is alright though

I can recognize that this album is well done and objectively pretty good, but it just didn't hook me. Favorite Song: Even Flow

Good album.

I thought I liked Pearl Jam but I guess I don't? TMYK

ok the guitars sound great but so much doing I now know why some have a tendency to overplay

Rating: 7/10 A good helping of peak mainstream 90’s hard rock but Pearl Jam and Ten were never my favorites of the genre or era. Some absolutely timeless highlights in the first half of the album that mainly comprise of the singles, they’re just well crafted and anthemic with good riffs and guitar solos that are definitely more reminiscent of classic rock. Once to Jeremy is a pretty massive run with the shorter cut Why Go being on a lower rung. Later tracks are decent with strong ones in Garden and the closer Release. All around good stuff but not a top tier classic in my eyes

not my jam

Admittedly I had sort of a stilted listening experience with this one, I did a sort of "album-ception" where basically I had interrupted my Sunn 0))) album from last night to listen to this, and then I had to interrupt this and listen to Doris by Earl Sweatshirt cause I was somewhere with literally 0 service and I didn't wanna interrupt it. That being said this is pretty good, I can see why people latched onto it at the time but I feel like there's not a ton here for me. The first 5 or 6 are all really good, but I thought the rest was pretty forgettable and ending with like 4 minutes of instrumental was kinda lame. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination though. Favorites: Even Flow, Alive, Black

The Mookie Blaylock album. Honestly, preferred the Smashing Pumpkins: they were always a little too earnest for me

the singles are massive. the album tracks are...kinda meh :-/

I see they are a decent rockband. What makes this stand out?

I had a vision of this blowing me away and removing all my vague anti-Pearl Jam sentiments. It didn't really. It's quite good, I suppose, but it's distinctly lacking in any sense of delicacy, fun or interest. I think you have to have one of those three really.

Hard rock

My favorite part is how I can understand all the lyrics without them pulled up in front of me. 7/10

It's Pearl Jam.

I think Vedder's vocal performances give this a bit more depth than Alice in Chains, and I feel like this is somewhat more original than some of the other grunge we've listened to so far. Glad to hear some familiar tracks on this... Even Flow is pretty good every once in a while. Still not my favorite rock album, but I was honestly surprised I enjoyed this overall. Favorites: Even Flow, Alive, Porch, Deep

Really don't like how this album is mixed, especially the drums, but Eddie Vedder's, let's say, unique timbre and cadence, combined with some pretty gnarly guitar solos and strong, tuneful songwriting make for one of the stronger hit records of this era when grunge took over the charts. Is it something I return to often? No, but I'll jam out to it when I come across it.

- I like this more than other Pearl Jam albums I have heard - chill yelling vibes - I liked it, nice background music

This was a good album. As far as grunge goes Pearl Jam is my least favorite out of the main bands, but they have some nice hits. Once - a great start to the album Even Flow - impossible not to nod along to, on of my favorite Pearl Jam songs. Black - nice song, I really loved the vocalization at the end Deep - has some excellent guitar work

all songs sound the same, alright

For a dad rock album, pretty good. More varied than a lot of other similar rock album. Still not great, but enough good things in it to be decent. I am still not a fan of the main vocals, too whiny for me, but the guitar was great.

Not bad. Kind of boring and all sounded the same

Well, well, well, it turns out I kind of like Pearl Jam.

Never quite got on with Pearl Jam as much as their contemporaries. Find them a bit more meandering.

Not really my style it’s Whiney some songs are decent like black but I feel like I’m tired of hearing pearl jam songs. They don’t resonate with me. I did like the first song though then it fell through. I didn’t finish the album,

I liked it, but i don't think it's necessarily something to seek out for good listening

Another instance where I have to separate the (over-played) singles from the rest of the (new-to-me) album because the former have been so ingrained into my skull, it's hard to be objective. So, the "new" stuff is kinda mid. If that were all this album was, I'd probably give it a 2. But it's not. There are also those pesky singles to consider. And even though I've heard them enough times for two lifetimes now, they really are pretty solid. Guess it's a "split the difference" situation again.

I’m horrified that I’m giving this a passing grade. This was far better than I imagined it would be, even if it isn’t my cup of tea.

jeremy, garden and porch are amazing, the rest is ok

not as good as Joni Mitchell’s Blue

Solid album. Some huge hits, but it doesn’t hold the 4 star energy throughout for me.

bem ok! não me marcou, mas álbum bem consistente favorita: even flow

Good album. I have always had the same feeling though. The feeling that had I been there at the time, 5 stars. Hearing the army of Eddie Veder wannabees when Inwas growing up soured me.

It was a favorite when I was in high school, but I don’t know that it’s aged particularly well for me. There are other PJ albums I return to more frequently, but I think they are largely a band who’ve outstayed their welcome, which unfairly colors their past work for me.

The hits were good, it got samey

Zero hate, but I only cared about Jeremy, not only because of the story behind it, which I already knew, but because it's the one that resonates with me the most. The other songs are good, but they all mesh with other nu-metal ish songs, don't get me wrong, it's not a bad album, it's just not my favorite genre. I know Pearl Jam predated many of those Nu-metal acts, but I feel like those that came after them perfected the style. TLDR: It's alright

Might not be a great album, but it at least elicits some involuntary giggles. 3 stars

I enjoy Vedder's voice and saw that this music really worked during the introspective moments on a show I love, The Bear. But as bright-spots pointed out, it really does all sound the same.

Pearl Jam really only has one sound. It’s a fine sound and I don’t hate it, but it’s not enough to justify giving this anything more than 3 stars.

I'm really not a fan of Pearl Jam, I mean they are okay but I could just never get into them. This album is fine but it's still Pearl Jam so not a big fan. I know they were a big band and super influential in the grunge scene but for me the music is just mildly annoying. Still not a fan but it's not the worst thing I've heard and some of the songs are catchy (probably because I've heard them 100 million times).

The 2018(?) remastered version adds at least a half star to this rating, definitely a case where the original production just didn't know how best to capture the band's energy.

A very good grunge/hard rock album that has no filler and rocks with a lot of heart and conviction. They promise and they deliver. Eddie Vedder's voice is strong and defiant but to my ears sounds almost exactly the same on every song but it works on every song. The band does no wrong and rocks with sheer passion from beginning to end- I personally liked the production. While Pearl Jam remains a band that is unlikely to ever get much play from me if for no other reason than I simply don't find them very interesting it's easy to hear why they are so well loved by millions of people the world over.

Top Songs: Even Flow Alive Porch

My childhood was filled with Pearl Jam records. They were my ride-or-die all the way through Yield. In 1994, I would've told you Vitalogy was the best album ever made. Vs. was the first album I bought on the day of its release, which was a Tuesday back then, and before I had a license, meaning I had to convince my parents to drive me somewhere after school to buy a cassette. But Ten never hit me quite the same way. There are songs I love (“Black”, “Porch”) and songs whose soundscapes were formative to my taste (“Oceans”, “Release”), but the mix is muddy, many of the songs sound more or less the same, and the whole album is self-serious. The singles can get me pumping my fist in the air, of course, but I don’t seek them out. Overall, it’s just not my favorite 90s relic and, despite everyone’s reverence and its obvious importance, it’s maybe my least favorite Pearl Jam album through (and including) Avocado. (There's a new mix of this album by Brendan O'Brien that came out in 2009, dubbed "Ten Redux," that solved a lot of my issues with it. It sounds more urgent and timeless, and cleans up most of the heavy-handedness of Rick Parashar's original mix. I'd give that version four stars, though it admittedly makes it feel less like a 90s grunge time capsule. YMMV.)

This album was very underwhelming. It's definitely solid. I don't think I would really listen to many of these songs on my own time.

Vs. is better.

"even flow" is an all-time banger but i'm surprisingly unmoved by this overall. i think i just don't care for eddie vedder's gravelly singing voice.

Classic 90s album

It was alright.

Other than the inclusion of Even Flow on an iteration of Guitar Hero, I had not come across any of the Pearl Jam discography previously. This was an enjoyable rock record with a distinct change in tone across the album which provided as a pleasant surprise following some initial misgivings. Not quite my own jam but can appreciate it as a decent record.

Actually really liked the start, but think got distracted after. Nice listening

Not really for me

Achei repetitivo e massante, som muito carregado e poluído. Tem uma música geracional que é Black.

- Once: meh - Even flow: temazo - Alive: temazo - Why go: tremendo solo de guitarra - Black: clásico total - Jeremy: me gusta. - Release: meh

Tried it before, wasn't a big fan. Tried it again, still them same.

Still can't help but giggle at his singing but it's a hell of a debut album.

Five great singles, and five ok album cuts.

dad rock

“Black” es una estrella más . Vaya canción más perfecta.

Like it 3/5

I have some unfounded prejudice against Pearl Jam and struggled to listen to this without doing a mean impression of Eddie Vedder in my head the whole time. I got there though. It was alright to me, but nowhere near my favourite grunge thing.

It’s good music but I feel like all of pearl jam just sounds the same

I liked it... It sounded a bit repetitive at the beginning but I really liked the second half. Fav song - Black Overall 6/10

An iconic sound. Grohl is an very talented drummer. The vocalist is also talented, but his tone is consistently too serious. In fact all of this is just seriousness on testosterone. Props for pioneering a sound that was so influential it became inescapable in the ‘90s, but no thanks. A 3.

I think this was an important listen on a personal level, understanding that I'm a grunge fan makes this a mandatory effort to hear at least once. It's not quite what I hoped for, but I enjoyed it about as much as I was expecting. It's not music to break shit with, but don't tempt the mood. It's a heavy sound with talent involved, at the same time it's also digestible, not overly studied or overdone. I do find it a little too radio-friendly for my tastes, and maybe that has to do with the strong classic rock influence this album seems to be known for. Still, there's undeniable talent everywhere, I just don't see myself coming back for more. 3.1/5

Not really a fan but I enjoyed the singalong to Alive 😀

cool to hear where a lot of the inspiration for modern rock came from, but less exciting compared to what I like

I really, really liked this album in my teens. Then, in time, I started considering it a bit cringe, so I was pretty biased when I started listening to it again. But once you move past Vedder's singing mannerism, it's actually pretty enjoyable.

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would!

Surprised at just how many hits came from this album. Interesting listen overall. Ahead of its time yet defined the early 90s. My favorite track ended up being "Once."

This is crazy as a debut album. Pearl Jam nailed their sound from the start. The three most iconic Pearl Jam songs come from this album. While I'm not a huge fan of Vedder's voice, I recognize its uniqueness. So influential on future alt-rock groups. The storytelling of these songs is 10/10

It's hard to not compare it side by side with Nevermind, same year, grunge band, and it fall short. Lacks the riff and raw energy of nevermind and still less catchy, over produced and when people say better songwriting but I don't see it, I find Cobain more clever with writing and lyrics.

favourites: garden, release, alive, black liked his voice and the vibes overall but i think id have to listen to it a few more times for anything to really stick

Once 3/5 Even Flow 5/5 Alive 5/5 Why Go 3/5 Black 4/5 Jeremy 3/5 Oceans 2/5 Porch 3/5 Garden 3/5 Deep 3/5 Release 2/5 Overall Album 3.27

I mostly find this annoying, but when I consider I gave Eminem a 2 a couple days ago I guess I can bump this to a 3.

Didn't connect with every song but found myself enjoying a lot more than I expected. 3.5.

I loved this album in high school. More accurately, I loved the big hits off this album in high school...Even Flow, Jeremy, Alive and I learned to enjoy Once and maybe a couple others. Now, 25 years later, it doesn't hit the same at all. It seems...too aggressive? I guess I'll shut it off and go see my doctor about testosterone supplements...

I graduated college in 1990 and worked in a brewpub in the Northwest for the first few years of that decade. Grunge was the music of the day and this album was ever present. Nirvana and Primus were more my jam, and Pearl Jam felt like the radio version of that movement, but the album holds up.

The songs are really well played and produced, but mostly sound the same. I would hope for a bit more range throughout an album.

I prefer Creed

Rating: 3/5 ⭐️ I enjoyed it thoroughly however, I would still prefer to listen to Nevermind over this album. I highly recommend commend the band for this being their DEBUT album and after learning the history of Pearl Jam I appreciate them much more than before. However, this is personal preference of every song sounding the same that makes it lose points from my end. I knew a few songs before completing this album such as even flow and Black which made those listening moments enjoyable however some of the songs I personally did not enjoy due to them being a ‘slower’ track. I appreciate this album and the things Pearl Jam has done for the grunge community and the ticketmaster war. FUCK TICKETMASTER FR Favourite song: Porch and Even Flow Least favourite: Release

1. Once 9/10 aahhaAAHAHAAAAAAAAAA OH MY GOD INCREDIBLE 2. Alive 6/10 4. Why Go 7/10 5. Black 7/10 6. Jeremy 6/10 7. Oceans 8/10 8. Porch 8/10 9. Garden 7/10 10. Deep 6/10 11.

Wasn’t a big Pearl Jam guy back when this came out. Still not a big Pearl Jam guy now decades later. Eddie Vedder’s mumbling ass singing like he got a mouth full of marshmallows. Still, I suppose this is an iconic album that harkens back to a better time. 3.5⭐️

Good album, no song stood out though.

What do we want? BOOMER ROCK! When do we want it? NOW!!! FAVO: Even Flow, Alive

honestly found it repetitive, and could barely tell one one song started and another ended. this type of music is normally stuff i quite like but i can't get behind vedder's voice, sorry 90s rock stans. objectively it's not bad music! just not my jam :p think this album would sound better live though, might try to score tix?

alright but a bit of a long intro in the song i listened to

Pretty good. Will stay on my phone for now.

Pretty solid album with amazing vocals but I think in my opinion it lacked overall variety. My favourite tracks were points of authority, runaway, and in the end. Mr cool did it better to be honest(wiggle it).

alright, let's rock

Pumpkin spice grunge rock

6/10 - Favorite song: Alive

A good rock album destroyed by overproduction.

For a debut album released in 1991 at the height of the Seattle Grunge boom, this has more in common with 70s classic rock and even a touch of metal in places. I mean, it’s perfectly fine and I recall playing some of these tracks in Rock Band on the Xbox, but they’re all pretty interchangeable and nothing has stuck in my head even after two listens. For all of their greasy hair and baggy jumpers, it turns out that Pearl Jam are just a bunch of lamestain cob nobblers.

There's some decent songs on here but the album goes long and Eddie Veder's voice is pretty whatever to me.

Not all bad actually

Great songs, not my style

i have heard this album before

Album Review 045 Ten by Pearl Jam (1991) Rating 3.5/5 There were very few bands from the grunge scene that I truly liked and Pearl Jam were never one of them, mostly due to Eddy Vedder’s vocals. But…. this is the first time I’ve listened to one of their albums in full and I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. Ten is a consistently strong album that has more to offer than just the well-known tracks (Jeremy, Even Flow, Alive), and sounds far more developed and confident than it should considering it’s the band’s debut. Whilst it doesn’t change the fact that I’ll never likely be a fan of Pearl Jam, after listening to Ten they’re certainly a band I can respect. Oh, and after 35 years of uncertainty, I now know that Jeremy spoke in class today which, when you think about it, does make a bit more sense than Jeremy’s pogrnnnn glaaa-aa-yay-yay.

tried listening 1.5 times and it was nice but didn't click with me like jagged little pill did

Solid but pretty variable in what songs I enjoyed vs didn’t.

One of the big albums to kickstart the grunge scene. It’s all very committed, full of energy and Eddie Vedder certainly has a distinctive voice. I just don’t buy into the idea that this helped to rescue rock from van Halen, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith

Unfortunately this album has not aged like fine wine or imported cheese. The late 80s and early 90s production with its over indulgences smack the listener bluntly in the face! I’m not going to lie, when the mood fits, one can rock out hard to this album, but there is always a grungy-camp-factor to that dynamic. I have respect for Vedder and company, but not their strongest work by far.

albums like this make me wish I were more grunge

Not a bad album at all; it just invites comparison to Nirvana and it isn’t in the same league.

Wrong side of grunge for me

Idk man, it's okay. A clearly good execution of what it's trying to achieve, but the whole wall of noise thing that's prevalent in most grunge has never massively been my thing, and the (memed to death) Eddie Vedder vocals do take away from the storytelling potential within the lyrics because he is genuinely very difficult to understand. Porch is a good song

Godt men lige lidt for rocket til mig 🫣

I personally am not the biggest rock fan and only listened to the first couple songs, but it has some cool guitar moments and kept me pretty engaged! Not my favorite, but I thought it was cool!

liked but forgettable

liked it, had a bit of a tears for fears vibe which i enjoyed

I used to own a copy of this album, pretty much everyone did. I played it a lot at the time but it didn't stick with me, nice to hear it again after about 30 years away. Not a bad start to this project for me

Ok Not my type

first album ranking !! porch even flow release alive black why go jeremy oceans garden deep once

This is my first album here! The singing is not my thing but the guitar the bass the drum are great!

A fucking classic.

Good album, could listen to it on repeat but nothing really stood out to me.

2.5 stars I’ve never been huge into Pearl Jam, and have never listened to this album in full before this listen, although I know the singles pretty well. At the end of the day the singles are undeniable classics, the rest is forgettable, and it doesn’t really sit as an amazing album.

I was excited to listen to this one, and very disappointed with what I heard. It’s just not a good album, there are good songs, but as a whole, it’s too long and too repetitive for me. The vocals are also frustrating - I like to listen to the lyrics, and think about what an artist is saying, which is next to impossible here.

Idk man, my mind knows this one is important but I've never really gotten into Pearl Jam.

Divorced dad energy strong here. Has some ripping guitar lead and the vocals (though I can’t really do the accent) are kind of excellent once I got over myself about a third of the way in. Playing is quite simple and a bit derivative of other earlier grunge bands, but it’s got a strong vibe that’s very self serious. Annoying somewhat. Big anthem sound, very distinctive. Not to my taste but fair game

This was a good listen like there were song good songs on this album. When Black came on all I could say was "This...was...magical". From the vocals to the instrumental and the lyrics this song was just Soooo good!!! Other songs which caught my attention were Even flow and Alive. I will give it another listen but all I can say is Black was amazing I am gagged Fav tracks: 1. Black(SOOOO GOOD OMG) 2. Alive 3. Even Flow 7.5/10

Even Flow is such a great song. I generally like this album quite a lot. It's a very authentic rock album, with that early grunge sound without the angst. It does peter out at the end of the album. It just starts so strong that I don't realize that it's slowly lost my interest towards the end.

It's pretty good. I think that this record becomes a little boring in the latter half. Favourite Track(s): Even Flow Least Favourite Track(s): Why Go

Favorite Songs - Even Flow, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Release

Album muy movido, canciones emotivas e EVENN FLOWWWW

Just started and really enjoy the instrumentals on “Once”. Already has heard “Even Flow” and already enjoy it!! Not a huge Pearl Jam fan but still good!

Even Flow, classic skate låt. Ganska decent album, 6/10

A bit too earnest, but some good tracks.

Black is definitely my favorite and the melody and lyricism is is by far my favorite on the album. still mid listen but we'll see where it gets us. Jeremy is my least favorite. the pace and lyrics didn't hit for me at all it felt dull. also oceans didn't hit for me but I'll give it a second listen. the solo in porch will replay in my head tomorrow. I stand corrected. Garden takes the crown. goddamit deep is really good. it's release.

It's actually pretty good, I think some songs would fit in one of my playlists called rockstar, but I feel like it's still missing something

Not as good as I thought. Hits were great (especially black) but I didn't really care for it past Jeremy. 7/10

Pas mal !

might go hard in a rhythm game

Afedaminashanuuu youmeanawatchfulaaaaay igotabetamuuuuuunchstrowall

I had this album when it came out but was only an occasional listener of Pearl Jam. I quite like some of their tracks, but probably wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to them. I saw them live at Reading Festival (mid 2000’s I think) and, again, I found them ok but nothing special.

I know so many people that love and adore Pearl Jam. I don't dislike them but I also don't find them particularly engaging. Straight down the middle.

I had actually listened to this the whole way through for the first time earlier this year, so this was my second listen and of course I had heard the hits. Not my favorite genre but probably my favorite album in the genre!

already listened to, had super heavy grunge phase last year

Not my favourite. Quite liked 'alive' but the rest just washed over me.

I've certainly heard this a few times over the years, and it's been on my shelves since 1991, but it never quite landed for me like Nirvana or Soundgarden. I accept that comparisons shouldn't be made, but at time it was inevitable. I don't reach for this much these days. Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ ★★★☆☆ (6/10)

Only this high due to the nostalgia factor. Otherwise the album doesn’t quite hold up.

a couple nice tracks, but the rest just kinda sounded all the same to me

Better

I always wanted to like Pearl Jam and do, but only to some degree. This was a defining album of the 90s for sure and from a musical point of view this is quite good. Still nothing stays in my head except for the hits.

Decent, for a band I'm not a huge fan of.

My first time listening to this pretty acclaimed and beloved band. And I don't know if I just need to sit with it for longer, but I really didn't get this album on first listen. It does the usual hard-rock and grunge thing, and there are some mean guitar passages here, especially with the entire song 'Why Go' or that second half of 'Porch'. And even though he's not my cup of tea, Mr. Vedder is a pretty charming lead vocalist, especially on the softer 'Black' where he's absolutely pouring his broken heart out, lyrically and vocally. Despite it being such a departure from the noisier sounds of the rest of the album, 'Black' really was the best song here. Because while I did enjoy most of the album, the songs tend to blend in with one another way too much. By the time this was done, I wasn't really able to pick out a unique switch-up, or a driving, memorable riff, or a sticky melody in the vocals. In a lot of ways, I'd say it's consistent to a fault - and to the point where I was already exhausted by the time I hit 'Jeremy', despite it also being one of the better songs here. So, I will say, I didn't love this on first listen. But I know myself and my relationship with these types of samey, consistent albums - I'm sure that it'll grow on me, at least a little bit, after just a few more listens, because it is just a really well-done rock record and much better than a lot of what was coming out around this time in mainstream rock and grunge. Something about it feels really down-to-earth and sincere. So I'll leave it at that.

Great grunge album

Mouais plus.

Was okay. Not my taste

3.4 rounds down to 3

My mother commented that they sound like Dave Matthews Band and I now can't unhear it—and I'd rather listen to DMB. Pearl Jam is a bit histrionic for my taste, excepting Black, which is a 5-star jam.

This is not for me, but I had a great time picturing 5 year old Eddie dancing and jamming out. And it’s really clear to see how it molded him into who he is today

Very generic sounding album. And there's just so much of it.
