Reviews (page 12 of 13)
Way too chill. 2.5
cool one
Not for me.
Delightfully colorful with solid grooves and wonderful harmonies. Probably something I will only grab once for in its entirety and cherry pick the classics. Definitely something my mom would slow dance drunk to.
Was not a fan
2 pisenka juz mnie wkurwia nw czy przebrne orzez calosc 3 tez ssie dalej wcale nie jest lepiej wkurwia mnie to
It was too oldie for me
As an album it’s very skippable.
Torn on this one. If I could do 2.5 stars, that's what I'd probably do. Has a couple good songs, but it's just ok to me.
It's mid-70s funk. It's okay, I suppose. There was a lot of this around in the 1970s. I would skip EWF on Top Of The Pops (for a trip to the kitchen to get a Tupperware beaker of cherryade) whilst waiting for something I liked to come on. I appreciate it more now, but would never play this by choice. The upbeat funky tracks get three stars. The slowies one star. Averaging out at two stars.
Funky!
first time intentionally sitting down to listen to Earth, Wind & Fire. 70's soul/lite funk. there are much better representatives of this out there IMO, but respect.
Pleasant easy listening From a group who can do better.
bland
Some good songs, others annoying
#94/1001 🇺🇸 I wanted to like this more than i did. My favourite track was an instrumental, this tells me that it was his falsetto vocals that i'm struggling with. Best Tracks: Africano, That's the Way of the World.
Was digging the first song and thinking "Maybe I've never given EW&F a fair chance. Then things slowed, the funk fell away, and there were some dull songs. Soul songs that just don't touch upon my soul.
Decent funky instrumentation with occasional bouts of brass and piano adding some welcome flavour. Vocally, however, I can't contend with this. "Africano" was, by far, the standout as it's just an instrumental bop.
interesting
This is just an album about hugging and kissing for people who only like Schoolhouse Rock
Kuuntelin töissä mutta ei kyl jäänyt mieleen kuin pari kivan groovyy kohtaa.
Its disco, its fun, but there's nothing really special about this album. Can really only remember one song that stuck with me.
groovy but I wouldnt listen
Me gusto, no es algo que sea imposible de escuchar, al contrario es bastante movido para tener de fondo, pero aun asi no logre conectar, no es un género y sonidos que elija escuchar.
Gaat alle kanten op
It's not the song
Really only liked the first song, production was good though
Fun
A really fun album to listen to. The only problems I had were the soul numbers, and that's not on the band, that's on me, it's just a type of music I never got into. But, would happily listen to the album again!
Как-то без огонька
Funky with good harmonies but found that the songs weren't very memorable for me
bored
Not for me
I gave it a shot, but they really aren't my cup of tea.
Well, there’s some strong musicianship on here, but I don’t dig the disco vibes. Not terrible, but not my favorite.
Did not care for this one unfortunately, tried listening to it twice while running some errands and I never had a „wow that’s good!“ moment, so I guess it was okay background music but nothing more
Alt ligg jo til rette for at æ skal like det her, men æ klare bare ikke. Lagra ikke én sang. Har faktisk enda ikke hørt en EWF-sang æ like🧐 Trur kanskje æ like «In The Stone»
In its favour, this is quite diverse in terms of tempo and energy, opening with an upbeat number, but with some reflective moments, like Reasons, and a flute-filled interlude on Africano, before it enters funk territory. On the whole though, perhaps not my thing.
I can enjoy funk/funk-based music, but usually only when it’s quite ‘hard’. EW&F’s album is way too polished and syrupy for my tastes.
I feel bad rating this a 2 but it just didn’t do anything for me! Shining Star was fun but the rest of the first side was just tooooo smooth, nothing interesting for me to grab onto. The second half was an improvement. It deserves its place on this list but just didn’t excite me at all.
bof. 01/02/2026
Groovy, everything I imagine the 70s to be. Not really my vibe though. 2.5/5
Nothing really stood out to me and not my favorite genre.
Only half
Mostly inoffensive disco music, was nearly a 3 but too many cheesy tracks after halftime ⭐⭐
Like the band but the album not so much.
Sexy times with Earth, Wind & Fire. I like the funkiness and flute on "Africano." The rest doesn't do much for me.
They definitely have a great sound. I can see why they are loved by many, just not what gets me moving though 2.5 stars
Funk, disco-y and pure 70s. It’s probably considered great for the genre, but I really really don’t like the genre.
2.5/5 fun but similar songs to each other - they have a sound they follow religiously great opening song similar to bee gees sound doesn’t tell a consecutive story through the songs, more so a list of songs in a row
Wow, what a banger of an album! I heard a lot about the band, but it's my first time listening to their album from start to finish. Now, I understand why everyone loves them.
volevo troppo che mi piacesse
Meh 🫤 niet mijn ding
Not really my cup of tea. I'm sure there is a time and place where this would fit perfectly though..
Smooth funk and disco. I’m a fan of Prince and can see he was probably influenced by this band as well as others like Sly and the Family Stone. Listenable and enjoyable with a positive message that is so needed today. Solid 3.
It's all a bit dated, just nothing there to want me to listen again
Funky
Not my thing. Also too much falsetto and vibrato for my taste. 2/5
Rather irritating.
This was a tough one. It was popular I guess in the studio 54 scene, but not my bag.
Meh. Too cheesey for me. Also everytime I see the band name reminds me of a deeeeep cut in Fresh Prince of Bel Air where there was a law firm called Firth, Wynn and Meyer and he made a joke about it. 🤣
Funky, cool, me likey but wouldn’t listen again lol
Funk is not my favorite genre. The singing on this album is not great. The instruments are fun sometimes, but overall I am bored and unsatisfied. I know Earth, Wind & Fire has the capability of being great, but I didn't find that with any songs here.
Man, I just cannot get into EW&F.
Too much falsetto
Ikke noget specielt.
Very slick. Nice. Not sure if I like it that much.
I enjoyed it, but not a repeat listen.
Just fine - didn't really do much for me
inoffensively bland radio music that I really only see myself dusting off when I need something harmless to play for company, didn't *dislike* it, but I don't know that I MUST have heard it before I died.
Klingt ein wenig so, als wenn die Bee Gees eine Discosoulplatte gemacht hätten. Ein bisschen weniger glatt hätte mir besser gefallen.
first half stronger than second half
Muy buen funk / soul, suena increíble, la onda que manejan, pero no es mi estilo no me genera mucho 4/10
a lot better than i was expecting
Not my kind of music really. A few good tunes and some good musicianship but not my taste.
Big RIP to Water, the fourth element that just evaporated into fuckin steam upon getting too close to Fire. There was talk of a manslaughter charge but it was dropped due to the judge’s affinity for that September song. “Ah what they hey. These guys are funky as hell. Let’s call it even. Case dismissed.” One of the biggest miscarriages of justice in American history. Shining Star - This is pretty damn funky. Murder coverup aside. This is a pretty decent track. That’s the Way of the World - Now we’re into the extended boredom I expected upon seeing this pop up in my embattled browser. Happy Feelin’ - Hey everybody! Let’s love everybody and golly gee whiz it sure would be nice if we could all live in peace and harmony! *glockenspiel solo*. All About Love (First Impression) - Don’t laugh like that. Oh my sweet lord this sucks. When he asked me to stop whatever I’m doing (listening to this album), I wished I could’ve. Yearnin’ Learnin’ - True G’s don’t need to use g’s when they type. I’ve been an idiot all these years spellin’ correctly. Fuck sakes. Thankfully the phone has increased my typo percenta’e tenfold. I’m not sure we should’ve let this fella sing. Reasons - Hoo boy, these guys make romantic love sound like a death sentence. Besides that flute solo. Africano - Adding O’s to words will never not be funny. Italian using our language, one vowel at a time. Saxophone right out of a late show outro. Thank you for tuning in everybody, we have a great show for you next week, Taco Bell will be making a public apology for the Gordita Surprise mishap, and Chuckles Muldoon will be here doing a beanbag routine that will blow your socks off. Bring a change of wigs! See you next week. See the Light - Some of the funniest falsetto going. Well. We’ve made it through another one. Listen, these guys are mostly likeable and seem to be pretty excited about the music they’re making here. That can be charming if it’s not completely self-indulgent. The peace and love stuff is just noise at this point but the music had some variety here and there. Too many bad moments to call this a good record but enough intrigue to maybe commit to memory that these guys are NOT Kool & The Gang. One step at a time. 2-2.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Shining Star, Africano
Fantasy by Earth, Wind and Fire is one of my guilty pleasures. There was nothing here which reaches that level. They are a great singles band but the singles from this are not up to the standard of their later work.
Didn’t do it for me
Meh.
2.5
I'm not very high on this at all. I knew "Shining Star" going in and it's a decent track. The only others that really did anything for me were "Yearin' Learnin'" and "Africano". The rest just was not my cup of coffee. 2.5 stars.
The song Africano whips.
I didn't mind this album. The first song was perfect for my walk outside in the sunshine and I liked the instrumental song 'Africano' as well but the album had a bit too much falsetto for my liking.
Never really got into Earth, Wind and Fire. Mid to late 70’s soul is just not an era I really connect with. Sounds too smooth.
Buenas canciones, con alguna sorpresa que ya conocía, pero sin destacar ninguna en especial.
Not great for me - bit low energy was expecting some disco beat and umph!
So much soul within the last few days! This one a tad mediocre after a promising start. There's only so much soul i can handle anyway before I pine for the blues.
Jest poprawny, ale bardzo spokojny, bez wyskoków
I don't like the high pitched vocals on some songs. Musically almost pleasant but not exactly my jam.
4/10
This was ok, but it seems they were just missing something to take them to the top level. Maybe another element would make them better!
5/10 - it's alright, a bit too low key romantic disco, I wish it went full on proper disco instead
Favorite tracks: Yearnin' Learnin', Africano Fun beats, but annoyingly repetitive lyrics. I had to skip the end of a couple of these songs I was so sick of them by the end.
Spodziewałam się że będzie lepszy
I really liked song 1, "Shining Star", but then the album is pretty mellow. It's great though, really good band.
Shining Star is a hell of a way to start an album but it goes downhill pretty quickly after that. Too many overly sincere piano ballads and disco and not enough funk.
2.0 Made me think of Semi-Pro ,I think Shining Star plays during the credits. Thats really the only song to write home about for me. CORNDOGS JACKIE, CORN DOGS FOR ALL THESE PEOPLE Whoa whoa whoa!!! There's no need to be calling people JT's my man! That's crossing the line! What a funny, funny movie
meh
Much to the chagrin of my wife, I just can't feel with these guys. This album did not change my mind. Incredible grooves and the quality of vocals and harmonies are next level, but it's just music I don't enjoy listening to
Not bad but not really my cup of tea.
The only song I knew was Shining Star which just makes me think of Elaine dancing on Seinfeld! That was really the only song I enjoyed. Some of the songs were long which is never a good thing in my book.
A bit anonymous
Nah. Not quite funky enough to listen to, but too intrusive for elevator music. Plus occasionally irritating vocal gymnastics. Two stars from me.
I like Earth, Wind, and Fire. I wanted to like this album. But it was just flat. Totally boring.
This one was okay. A lot of the tracks seemed to be kind of noodling rather than a more composed track. There wasn't much that stood out to me instrumentally, lyrically, or vocally in most tracks. Really liked the rhythm, horns, band marimba in Happy Feelin' (this was actually the only track that really seemed to all work).
Starting off with a classic, the wonderful Shining Star. And then downhill from there. The rest of the album was just kind of ok, fine as background noise, but not really all that interesting. And it ended on a total dud, See The Light. Best song: Shining Star
I understand the appeal, they’re obviously good at what they do... But it’s really, really not my kind of music. I have a deep-rooted allergy to disco music (and by proxy to the disco side of soul), and I was sincerely hoping Earth Wind & Fire could change my mind. But despite my best efforts, I just couldn’t get into it. I enjoyed a couple of tracks, then it became exhausting ; the high-pitched chorus and syrupy voices are just too grating for me, and I had to (painfully) force myself to listen to the end. Sorry, maybe next time...
Earth wind & fire, Ik dacht dus dat dit een soort rock band was, but i was wrong. Niet mijn stijl muziek, vrij experimenteel. 2 sterren.
Meh
One of my least favorite things is falsetto. I also just don’t feel 70s funk. So, this album was a no for me.
easy listening but not for me
I hate to say it, But this was disappointing. I just feel like I only know September so I was so ready to be excited and learn more of their songs that hopefully had the same vibe but no, I actually disliked it. I mean I can see why it is widely liked however I don’t really understand it.
My soul is so dark, this type of feel good groovy funky music leaves me cold and uninterested. It is probably objectively good, but I can't recall a song from it, or a motive, or anything of note on the next day after listening to it.
this wasn’t as funky as I was expecting or hoping it to be. I liked it, but the last 2 songs were great. I wanted it to be more like that!
Funky
Eh not my type of music
Not really for me
Enjoyed the foray into disco but not my vibe, especially the back half of the album
The first track was immediately compelling. By track two I was bored. I recognize the musicianship and creativity but I don’t have nostalgia or a taste for this era of 70s music. So, this is like a good record, but I’m not really into it.
gave it a go but could not connect - has not aged well in my opinion.
Earth, Wind, and Fire is like the Wu-Tang clan of Motown...there are like 40 members. This helps with the many instruments and solid musical ensembles they put together. That's the Way of the World is a half good album. Odd songs groove, even ones are skippers. "Happy Feelin" steals the show with a down right funktastic bassline and supporting xylophone. A take it or leave record...2.06 stars.
I wasn't aware of a movie named That's The Way Of The World nor that the soundtrack was by Earth Wind & Fire. I was a little skeptical because its not easy to thread the needle of combined soundtrack/album, especially one that sounds like a completely cookie-cutter 70's music business drama with an overbearing record executive. I hoped EWF might be able to churn out a couple hits and some slower jams to fill a mostly forgettable album. I guess I got pretty much what I expected as that's how I would sum this up. It's not a bad listen, but about half of the album is good and half is bad. I might throw Shining Star or Africano on sometime in the future but the album doesn't do enough to make me come back to it. Earth Wind & Fire did what they are known for in bringing some miscellaneous funk/groove but these tracks don't have the same magic that some of their other hits capture. It's a serviceable album but nothing special for me. 2.43 stars
I suppose if this is what you want to listen to, this would be a good choice. Not really something I'm going to seek out
I would like to like it but something too polished refrains me to...
Good musician but I can't stand these songs. Barely listenable for me.
Meh. Starts off good good in typical, upbeat fashion, but then dies off quickly. Not one of their better albums in my opinion.
Graaand.
This type of music is not for me.
Reading the wiki page for this album, I really don't see what everyone thinks is so great about it. EWF are good, but this is fairly bland funk with some African sound thrown in.
Squeaky voice
First 3 tracks keep me in a groove. 'Shining Star' only suffers from the fact that it was used in so much media that I was bombarded by it as a kid. I would like to have heard it for the first time in 1975 because I'm sure it would have been in rotation a lot for me. 'All About Love' makes me want to listen to something else but I kind of like the meandering spoken word part Honestly while this is well recorded and not bad at all it doesn't stand out as something that should be one of 1001 albums to hear before I die. As more music comes out this should probably fall off the bottom, no disrespect
disko šlageri, ne znam, nije mi sjelo
Eh
Like the hits and the bass playing and sound in first half of album is phenomenal. Back half of songs don’t do anything for me.
Not my cup of tea. Too bouncy be a laid back listen. Not rocking enough to even be a soft rock listen.
Pretty funky but didn't do too much for me. Long songs, too.
It's smooth, it's groovy, but it's very of its time. I mean just look at that album cover, that's the most 70s thing I've ever seen! I get why people like this, but me personally, I just can't get past how dated it is. Compared to other 70s soul like Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder this just really can't compete.
..
Yes, this is an album.
Too funky for me, not a terrible album but couldn’t get into it. Better than The Police by far.
is chill
Album didn't work for me, the tracks were fun for the most part, voices and lyrics didn't, IMO.
Funk soul, ništa specijalno. Čak pokušaji ženskih falseta su loše skrojeni u par pjesama i zvuče toliko neprirodno. Dosadna ponavljanja. 2/10
tror jag uppskattar genren i helhet men detta är oerhört ointressant på typ alla sätt
This is fine example of "if you've heard one Soul album you've heard them all". 'Shining Star' is okay. 'Happy Feelin' is okay. The rest of the album likely won't get a second listen from me.
Soulful sound but only 1 or 2 standout songs. Maybe not genre?
ive heard better soul
Not a fan
Did not like. This music does nothing for me.
I’m a funk fan, and the first track is a classic banger. The rest of the album is well choreographed and crafted. But I found myself really not in the mood for the slow jazzy songs that make up most the album. Shining Star = Great. Rest of the album is 2/5.
It's hard not to picture most of these songs being played during a 70s disco, especially since funk was mainstream then. Too much gospel singing for me and I'm not usually a big fan of soul/funk music, but there are some fun beats sprinkled throughout the album.
Kind of disappointing after shining star. Got less funky and more jazzy which I don’t like.
Sexy times with Earth, Wind & Fire. I like the funkiness and flute on "Africano." The rest doesn't do much for me.
I can see now why September is the culmination of their output. I can't imagine ever having a need to listen to this again. Sounds like a parody Eddie Murphy would put out
Some funky tunes but not really my bag
Inte min grej.
Shining Star That's the Way of the World
Funk will never be a favorite of mine but I can hear the building blocks within it and find myself singing along to some of the songs so I can’t hate it.
I can't stand most 70s funk like this. But I can understand how other people do. Just reminds me of gap commercials and dirty cities from the 70s. Not my think. But if you like it, funk on
It was ok but too many duds for me. I need more funk.
Too much funk and soul 😔
This one is mostly annoying.
If every song on this album was an element in their name, it’d go as follows Earth Fire Wind Wind Wind Wind Fire Wind Which, to sum up, says this album is not that good. I expected more groove. Nothing really. Choice cut: That’s the Way of the World
So for some weird reason, I of course knew the band's name but never consciously heard any of their stuff. And for some reason I had always grouped them into the same kind of adult contemporary dad rock genre as Chicago or Boston or Springsteen or whoever. I was relieved to realise how wrong I was. But. There are cool funky bits here, but nothing that would disqualify it from being a soundtrack to make love to your partner by But by God, is All About Love a schmaltzy song.
It grew on me as it went 2.5
It’s not completely bad but I didn’t like it
Solide, ganz nett, synthetisch mit einigen Plastikanteilen.
Yeah apppreciate the effort but didn' hit were it was meant to with this sort of thing. Less dancing in the kitchen and more complain and bitchin
I listened, I bopped along a bit, then forgot all about it.
p353. 1975. 2 stars. Slick but bland 70s R&B. Completely unmemorable.
It's alright objectively, but subjectively it's not my thing at all
First two tracks are great, but there's only so much falsetto and horns I can take in one sitting.
For some reason, I expected something different to what I’ve just heard. Yes, it’s lovely and positive, in a gospelly way. These fellas have a lot of love to spare for you and me, which has to be a good thing as there’s plenty enough angry music about. But it just sounds dated to me, and not in a nostalgic way. 2 stars as it’s inoffensive and nice and I’m not dropping my rating for some of the mad outros or intros.
Interesting ideas but I’m just not really a fan of disco. Favorite Song: All about love Least Favorite song: that’s the way of the world
2 stars, i like the song thats the way of the world and reasons! Thats all really tho, didnt fk w/ it for some reason. Jojo referance tally: 1
"Shining Star" and "Africano" both slap. Definitely saving those to my playlists. I didn't enjoy any of the slower songs (most of the rest of the album.)
Langweilig.
von anfang an mitten drin im funk und soul der 70er. packt mich aber trotzdem nicht.
слишком фанк (а между фанком опять бойз2мен), расстроена
I love the energy and the message of ‘All about Love’.
An album as funky as their 'fros. The upbeat tracks were a great time, though I didn't really care much for the ballad tracks on here. I probably won't return to much, but it was a fun time while it was on for the most part
Never been a huge fan, and this album hasn't changed that.
80s, Funk & Soul. Only for fans. 4/10
2/5 easy listening
So boring. Generic 70s funk/R&B. 2.5/5
I was expecting this album to be so much more upbeat I actually found it super boring and I hated the whiny parts in the songs 2 ⭐️
Fine background music but nothing particularly excited me about this
Jazzy, didn’t like it THAT much 2**
“Shining Star” is fantastic. There are some other decent elements, but most of it is too cheesy. 2.5/5
I think setting this album in its mid-1970s context is quite difficult. But the opener (Shining Star) is a cracker. I felt the following tracks were a bit too mellow to hold my attention. Some massive flares on the sleeve photo!
And water! After a strong opener, this goes a bit too far into balladry for me to love it. At its best when it's upbeat party funk, but too often saccharine.
It's disco... A couple of decent tracks. Yearnin' Learnin' and the title track stood out but I can't keep it up for a whole album!
Cool, men oldschool
Mag ich nicht so gerne vor allem die schnellen Stücke
almost a part of soul
I think for the time period, it was an excellent album. There are a couple of songs I know and I wouldn’t tell you to turn it off but it just doesn’t move my needle these days
Gear: Fostex TH610 Artwork: gude Laune!
This is the album on the election day of Belgium and I'm going to give it the same review as I would give to the election results. Not really digging it, but it thought it would have been worse.
bom, mas nada de mais. Passo, não estaria na minha lista.
This album was full of ups and downs, but by the end I was pretty annoyed with this album because of the sheer amount of cheese oozing from its grooves. Yeah, some of the instrumentation is impressive, and at times the vocals and melodies were pretty, but that stretch of gospel funk on the entire B-side felt all too goofy to ever be taken seriously, and that final track just felt preachy and sanctimonious. There was hope in the beginning, as even I know Shining Star and enjoy it, but I cannot really seem to look past my flaws with it. If you're looking for something incredibly easy for everyone you know to enjoy, but not much above that, this is that.
I understand why this was popular back in 1975 but 50 years on and it's just not holding up. It's inoffensive, friendly funk but it's not for me.
all these albums are just not for me
Not their best.
Not too into this style but the album isn't bad. Enjoyed the funk bits like in the songs Shining Star and Happy Feelin'. Would never listen on my own time but fine with leaving it on.
A bit dated. And that falsetto, yikes!
Lovely funk opening track with shining star. Very upbeat. Some good bass in "happy feelin". Listening to the lyrics, its all about love and the good things in the world. Very positive vibes all round. Some of the tracks could be in a 70's cop show for sure. Overall, nice funky sound but mostly forgettable tracks to me after a first listen. I wanted to like this only a single track clicked with me - shining star. Rating 2/5
Not really my thing.
Their is some interesting musicianship on here, but I generally do not like the songs at all. This is just not a genre of music for me. Another one that I don't like, but since I'm not mad that it even exists it gets a 2.
Ok. A few nice hits. Second half mostly sounds the same. 2.25
So much falsetto.
Uhhh.. let's go for it. bottom left looks eerily like prince. Vocal masturbation at its finest. 2 stars.
Still think disco should CJ’s after listening to this album? Yes, yes I do. But it could be worse. It could be ambient/electronic/house
Most of this album is solid, but there are a couple of really weak tracks that make up too much of the runtime.
Surprisingly fast album. Really only cared for Shining Star. Everything else felt like cheesy 70s sitcom music.
Decent but not their best.
no
This is not for me
Birth of he disco. I hate disco. 2 stars
Not really my favorite album from them.
Quite a nothing album. Happy feeling is a certified banger though.
Het raakt me niet echt en ik ben al snel afgeleid. Moeilijk om hier echt naar te blijven luisteren.
Not feeling this one
“Breezy feeling” is what I get from listening to this album? My dad’s favorite band. :)
Honestly, I was expecting to have a nice lil afternoon jazz bop and instead this felt like when you drink too much coffee and your mind turns into the last round of a Mario Kart race. I was hoping to enjoy it more than I did.
nope
Lesser version of a number of better artists! Bit bland.
Shining star starts off the album and is definitely the most popular song off the album and for a good reason. Outside of that though I didnt love it some of the songs were just too long and others just had too much going on for me making it feel chaotic and not in a good way more of an anxiety inducing way.
Pocs grups hi ha que em facin més mandra que Earth Wind & Fire, quin pal de música i què repetitiva és. M'avorreix moltíssim
It’s ok.
Huh
Not for me
This would be a strong two closer to a three, but still a two. Just don’t imagine listening to it again. The songs felt like they were all over the place. A few seemed like they were just a chorus, repeated over and over.
Kinda boring for disco
Fun and funky but a bit annoying too
ok, one classic
I thought I really loved Earth, Wind & Fire but it turns out I only like a few select hits and the band name. Also lose a half a point b/c of their position on the Oxford comma.
kind of sounds like background music to a mario kart game.
Album opens with a strong start eith shining star and way of the world. Happy feeling contains an absolutely unhinged xylophone section. The album completely derails during All about love and never recovers.
Apart from Shining Star, which is just that, the rest of it is pretty lame
Meh, doesn't do it for me. Best track: #5 - Yearnin' Learnin'
Flojo. Esperaba bastante más de Earth, Wind & Fire...
ikke lige mig
nah.
EWF were always seen as one of the more "accessible" funk bands of the 70s. I don't think they necessarily have a solid and consistent album. That is even more evident on this record, as it is a soundtrack which inherently makes it more disjointed. There are a few good tracks, and the record takes an interesting jazz fusion twist through the last 2 songs. Not a bad listen, but some of the slower tracks were meandering.
Good disco album, I prefer earth wind and fires other hits, not sure it quiet merits it’s place on this list.
It started so good (Shining Star) and ended so badly (See the Light). Love the hits but just can’t hang with the rest.
Sympa mais pas fou non plus. "Thats the way of the World" est sympa, certaines sont très dispensables
Saknar deras hits. Den här plattan hade ju inget särskilt.
All in all, was a good album. However, not an album I'll be seeking out in the future.
Energetic.
Oli miellekästä mutta eipä muistu yksikään kappale nyt 20h kuuntelusta.
not too impressed, I know earth wind and fire but do not particularly like them that much
Stylistically it's all over the place. I liked the funk bits but much of the other stuff felt dated
Disko! Nautin maanantaiaamuna, hyvä soundtrack siihen.
Mostly cheese. Some i would appreciate in the middle of a set on a funk radio show maybe.
mid
I thought this would be better than it was. A lot of slow paced r&b vs funkiness.
Not for me
"Shining Star" is still great, but nothing else comes anywhere close to that level.
I wanted to like this more than I did. I discovered I really hate when they realize they never talk at us about love and then do so. Also jazz flute.
The opening of the album is funky bass lovin’ fun. You got the horns, drums, synthesizers, and the list goes on. It feels like they threw the kitchen sink at this album instrumentally. Then we get to All About Love (First Impression) where I get completely lost. The ending is a bizarre departure. It doesn’t go too far off the rails because Yearnin’ Learnin’ and Reasons bring it back. But there is too much improv-esque exploration in the last two tracks. Verdine White’s bass deserves recognition though.
Bland
got some funky tunes but nothing that would bring me back to it
One of the big positives of this project has been introducing me to a lot of soul that I was only vaguely aware of before and have discovered to be fantastic. This isn't one of those albums. This is bland, uninteresting, easy listening dreck.
Between a 2 and a 3 - today I am rounding down.
My years working at Walgreens really poisoned the well for the first couple of songs here, which then completely tanked my ability to enjoy this. Maybe it's actually good. Who knows? Certainly not me.
I could hear the bridge from jazz to disco to R&B. Interesting.
You’re a shinin starrrrr no matter who ya areeeee. Not a huge fan of the album, might just not be in the right mindset.
Not rlly my taste
Listening to Earth, Wind & Fire gives me the same vibes as watching UFO sightings on Youtube.
Well you know the singles sparkle, but this amiable album of pop-funk is let down by some familiar weaknesses: the plodding ballads which make you realise what an achievement Easy by the Commodores was, and the noodly jazz-funk odyssey (Americano). So a pretty mixed bag, more mixed than my bag, and on this evidence a band best served by a generous greatest hits.
Decent, but not their strongest album.
Listened to it all the way through, but have pretty much forgotten about it already. Not up to much in that case
It's a nice album, not that memorable, as much funk and soul as disco tbh. That's The Way Of The World and Reasons stood out.
This album ends up being a bit dull - it can't decide whether it wants to be soul or disco. It ends up not having the richness and depth of a good soul album, and not being as fun or as energetic as a good disco record. Nothing on there that I'll ever seek out to listen to again. Feels like what Magic FM probably plays at 3 am. 2/5.
fuck the disco era really destroyed R&B music. I mean, this is ok. But I just can't get into it.
Never cared for this genre
5/10 Best song - Africanos
I was hoping that I was going to like this more than I did. The album starts off quite funky but turns rather too smooth for my taste very quickly. And the synth noodling at the end of All About Love sounded like someone practicing. It picks up a bit again after that, but I can’t see myself listening to this album again by choice. Africans perks things up a bit but I like my funky soul with a bit more edge. The edges have mostly been polished off here.
I'm not sure what I was suppose to do with this album - dance or make love to it. It's that kind of groove. There can be worse activities that music leads you to. The upbeat tracks have a great rhythm going off. The ballads aren't the best of the genre. You'd be better off listening to What's Going On. Or Fat Larry's Band.
Hmm, they kinda lost me w/ "All About Love"
Oof. This is NOT my jam. Can't say it's the WORST album I've ever heard but it's definitely 70s cheese, and not in a good way. I get why it's on here--I know it's an enjoyable genre for some people, just like disco is--but uh, yeah. This ain't it for me. Too much false setto. I like funk, but not this particular blend of it. Fave track: That's the Way of the World. I want to give this one star because I didn't enjoy any of it, but it's not truly a flaming turd of an album. I just personally found it unlistenable.
I was surprised to get a little twanginess early on in this album. Lots of great mix of genres, but unlimately, not anything with a great hook to keep the listener (me) engaged.
Zu stressig
Ok for the most part, some bits dragged. No bangers like September to drag it up to a 3
Not really my groove. It was a bit hard to get through the full album, but I do respect the musicality of some of the tunes.
The first song is great. The rest is very forgettable.
Just not really for me. Some of the funky bass lines are cool, but not a genre that's really my jam.
While I like some of their songs, I found this album failed to set me on fire. It was rather boring…
While it’s likely that the funky, at times experimental instrumentation was revolutionary and eye opening for its time, the bulk of the album from start to finish has aged about as well as disco itself.
Nothing against it, but not for me.
I tried. The funk stuff, sure but a big "Nope" to the cliched 70s syrupy ballads.
This is some soupy stuff, which sounds almost parodic. I've missed the boat. I left my flares at home. (Also they're probably responsible for RHCP.)
whatever. way too much high pitched nonsense.
They should have just looped Africano for 40 minutes.
First listen. Two GREAT songs. The rest are good.
mozda jednog dana postanem uzivatelj ove vrste muzike, ali dragi moji danas nije taj dan.
