Didn’t like it, not my vibe

Parece o ed Sheeran antes do ed Sheeran ser famoso

Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Lost Cause Date listened: over many days Listen when:- There's nothing wrong but I cannot get interested.

We got David beckie over here. What is this. "heartbreak and desolation, solitude, and loneliness" wow I'm excited to hear this. I'm sure it'll go really well with my mental state at the moment. Ok his voice is kinda springsteenesque. Hmm I don't think I like the vocals. Oh this is so 2000s. He just sounds nonchalant, almost nirvanaesque and I can't help but think the songs would be so much better if he just sang normally. Open the window dude then you'll hear the bluebird. I don't think my eyes can do all that bro. This guy should cheer up a little. Favourite: Guess I'm Doing Fine Least favourite: Lonesome Tears

Beck is always an interesting artist. Very good at combining different musical styles like funk, electronic, country and folk. Thus album is a much more chilled out affair. It feels like a fusion between country and smooth jazz. I have to admit that I prefer a more upbeat and fun Beck track. Thats not to say that this isnt good, I just like the other style more. (2.125)

Four tracks in and until now it's just boring. Don't know if I will make it through the album.

Bored me to tears.

I did not finished it (2-3 songs left). While it had a good production, it did not move me at all. But at least it was a change to know more about the singer of I'm a loser

Slow, morose, and lacking the charm that made Beck a 90s alt rock staple. Only Sunday Sun here carries much weight. The rest is pretty dull.

Found it to be very long, repetitive and uninteresting; i'm sure this may be technically impressive, but it's not something i would return to

I'd heard a couple of these in isolation at various points and was pretty excited for this album. Guess I'm Doing Fine and Lost Cause are truly excellent. The rest overstays its welcome quite a bit.

Pretty sad but didn’t really connect with me

Not what I expected from Beck, almost like a country album. But I just don’t like Beck for some reason.

A bit too melancholic for me

Sad. Listenable but just not great. 1.4

Not to keen

Guess I'm doing fine.

I love the dramatic strings in Lonesome Tears and some of the similar uncanny that pervades the other tracks. Bit moany, groany on the whole though. End of the Day dragged like its namesake on a tough Monday. Round The Bend catalysed my Sunday scaries and almost triggered a psychotic glitch as I listened to it whilst reading about defamiliarisation and dreams in Living Things (I actually just had to skip half way through sorry). Oh gee, Already Dead is another bleak motherfucker. This Becky Boy needed to go to the pub with a few mates on a sunny Saturday and remember life is worth living. Okay, Beck listened and felt life’s rays on Sunday Sun but still got that dystopian gait- lighten up bud. Listening to this album felt like holding a plank. Best of the bunch: Side of the Road

Mycket radiohead inslag. Läste ingen text men var helt ok, lyssnar nog inte igen. Har aldrig hört om Beck trots mycket hits. Spännande!

Typical Beck album, overall pretty slow very similar songs and repetitive throughout.

A bit too depressing for me

Disappointing

Not my type

It was pretty slow and not what you expect from Beck. Probably good song writing etc but I just found it all a bit boring and uninspiring

love some Beck, not this

Como dijo un sabio, medio falopa el disco.

"Break-up albums" bore me. It's like listening to someone you barely know read their secret diary aloud - it's cringy and uncomfortable, and I don't really care. That being said, it's hard to deny Beck's talent. Although I prefer his early albums, this record is quite well crafted, with nice arrangements and a bittersweet vibe that works fine if you're into that kind of thing. Both the vocal and instrument parts are restrained and sober, and manage to avoid the worst pitfalls of this type of album (like becoming whiny). I also appreciate the subtle grunge influences you can hear in a few songs. However, it's also really slow, long and repetitive. Most songs follow a similar pattern, and the mood doesn't change much over the course of the record. I'm completely all right with 3-4 songs, but a whole album of this was just too much for me ; there's only so much "sweet & sad" I can take in one sitting. In the end, it all felt a bit pointless and forgettable. I didn't actively dislike it, but I also didn't vibe with it, and I'm pretty sure I will never play this again. 4/10

nice ballads, nothing fancy though apart from the samples of Melody Nelson (or rearrangement) on the second track, Papaer Tiger.

This one bored me pretty hard. Nice background music to work to on a rainy day, but definitely not the Beck I’m into. Too mellow, not enough weirdness. It just floats by without really leaving a mark on me.

Arranqué entusiasmado. Terminé casi durmiéndome. Dificil mantener la expectativa en un álbum así, que encima dura casi una hora y se vuelve muy cansino. 4/10

I love Becks Fifa anthems and I didn't realise how far back he went. But unfortunately found this album boring.

Beck has like one good song and it’s not on this album. Few bits I found enjoyable but mostly a bit disinterested

Some really pretty songs, maybe his best stuff to my ears. I still can't warm up to that disaffected delivery though. It kind of suits the material here but it's the same delivery on every album and loses all it's effect in this setting.

Easy listening great guitar riffs

When I saw this, I let out an audible ugh. 1996 me became very tired of Odelay, and I do not care to hear about two turntables and a microphone ever again. Oh....Odelay is on this list too. Ugh. Anyways. This album surprised me. I only really liked one song (Paper Tiger), but overall I was not immediately irritated like I expected to be. There were a few other songs where I liked bits and pieces, but I realized I just don't really like his singing style. The production on this album is quite good, though.

As much as I like Beck I just don’t enjoy these types of albums from him.

This sounds like drinking yourself to death. I appreciate the layered composition, but the songs feel like nothing. Like eating a well baked wafer, but depressedly.

favs: the golden age lonesome tears it’s all in your mind already dead rating 1.6/5

Stimme aber immer cool Favs: the golden age, little one

Not quite my tempo this morning - a little boring at times, maybe. Favourite track: Guess I’m Doing Fine

meh. Beck isnt a very inspiring slow jam artist.

Not my style but others may like it

I can't say this was very special or enjoyable for me.

Not really for me

I prefer happy Beck.

Very slow, rather boring. Some bits were beautiful but it just didn't really do it for me.

Very unremarkable. So far, most of these recommendations just haven’t been worth it.

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't vibe with this much. It was fun as background noise. Maybe I should give it another shot some other day, but it didn't offer anything of substance to my tastes.

**An ok album

Riktigt jävla skittråkigt album eller?

meh, kinda whiney

Never really liked Beck and this hasn't changed my mind.

NOT FOR ME

Ehh. A bit boring.

I'm not a huge Beck fan, but his stuff is always at least interesting. This album was straight up boring though.

Couldn't listen all the way through... not my cup of tea :( nice strings though

Not heard this before, quite liked the downbeat nature of it

A bit disappointing? Feels more like a pastiche of alt country than anything sincere. Many better examples of this genre

Nice enough, 2 stars. Let’s hope there are some Beck duplicates to come, honestly RGP what are you playing at giving us this from his back catalogue? Tom.

Some nice orchestration but overall too ballady for me

Sadder than my taste. Kinda boring but not bad per say, just didn't keep me interested at all.

Depressing not for me at all

Not for me

I really like Becks

I put in on and sat down to listen. I remember nothing of that hour. Soporific.

No wonder Loser was his only song that took off, his vocals are BOOOOOOOOOOORING

white man music....

All of Beck’s stuff is pretty interesting but I have to be in the mood to enjoy his slower stuff. I’m not today so this one was a slog to get through but on the right day I genuinely enjoy all of these songs. Rating: 2.4

Perdonn

Sounds like ghosts haunting a pop country ballad album. it ok.

Me gustó Sunday sun, relaxing Oregon vibes

It was alright, nothing I'd play again. It was like background music, but even as that I didn't really enjoy it. Pretty meh.

like the site autoplay and didn't know when Beck ended and other artists started.

A tad boring, to be honest.

Pretty boring. It gets your attention at the start, but doesn’t really take it anywhere, making the experience fall flat. 2/5

Meh. It's all downtempo. Not a fan. Boring.

Myeh it was ok

Certainly an album. Not outright bad but it just washed over me. No particular song stood out and the soundscape didn’t really engage me.

Was a very boring album. Didn't really like it and I like Beck. Favorite: the golden age Least: its all in your mind

Albums to fall asleep to.

2 Stars (5/15)

Boring

Cynically, I can't help but feel that a big reason this is acclaimed is because it's a "weird" artist making an introspective album. But not only is Beck's earlier work more interesting than this, there are plenty of better downcast folk albums than this. The album opens strong. "The Golden Age" is a beautifully lush country song. "Paper Tiger" almost feels like a deconstruction of a folk song, with strums here and there mixed with big strings. After that the cracks start to show. "Guess I'm Doing Fine" is pretty, but as the album goes on it's clear there's very little variety in the songwriting. By the end, the songs offer nothing that earlier songs haven't already tried. I'm also not a fan of the vocals, they don't fit the mood at all. While there is some beauty and emotion here, there's too much uninteresting stuff in between.

Sometimes I wonder if the guy who made this list put some albums on it as a joke. This would then be certainly one of them. Yes, Beck can make music. Yes, he is a fine musician, although I am not a fan of his music. Yes, I am sure he has a lot of fans. But, no, never ever is this an important album to hear. And certainly not one of the albums you need to hear before you die!!!!!!!!!

Pleasent but unremarkaebel

Is this a whole album of ballads?

Not my cup of tea, que decirles.

Nu-i rău fainut

soem good some pretty common nothing special though

I liked early Beck better, never been a huge fan. Most of this wasn't good, (some was fairly damn dreadful) at it's best, it sure didn't make me want to listen to it again. I keep waiting for these slower more 'mature' albums to start resonating with me, but I'm damn near 50 and still find them boring. Maybe next decade.

Maybe too much Zoloft doesn't interfere with one's ability to write lyrics; but it definitely seems to interfere with one's ability to write and perform music. Musically, this is one BORING album. Lonesome Tears became interesting after he stopped singing and Lost Cause is a decent song. But beyond that, nada.

Liked Lost Cause but the rest didn’t stand out to me.

As Willow says in episode 20, "Villains", of Season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: "Bored Now" I'm sorry about his breakup but he really just made a much worse version of Blood on the Tracks

Mid wanna be indie john lennon. Its bland to me. Dont see the appeal at all.

Can't believe Stampylonghead makes music. Pretty slow and depressing, which is usually the sort of music that I gravitate toward but this didn't work for me. Rating: 2.5.

I don’t mind a little Beck but this isn’t his best work. He’s like David Bowie’s was less talented cousin who makes less fun songs

Wasn’t bad, but didn’t stand out

I never had a thing for Beck; he just doesn't work for me. Although this album is a bit different, it still didn't leave any impression on me. It was ok-ish, but that's it.

2 stars On a few occasions in the past I ventured out to listen to this record, looking for a bleak album to feel sad feels to. But I cannot tell you if I ever listened to this whole record before this exercise because it’s long, mostly one note and just kind of blends together. There is some good use of strings and dramatic orchestration, but the songs don’t really do much for me. I think I can leave this one on the shelf moving forward.

Bit boring

no es mi estilo

Forgettable. Like a toned down version of Bowie and Lord Huron.

nah bro este si no va, el otro álbum de beck estaba re chimba pero este está es pero aburrido, de buena que maluco, si me daño ahí la imagen de beck por que yo pensaba q le metía mucho pero bueno

This sadly didn’t work for me. Now this is my first Beck album, and I am aware that this is a very different album tonally for him, and from what I heard I may actually like his other stuff but this felt just to bare for me. The calm and reflective tone is pleasant but I wouldn’t say there is anything that grabs my attention or sucks me in. This being a breakup album the mood is very low and that is clear through the delivery, but this to me came across much more flat than emotional. I felt no real emotional arc through this, and the meditative moments just weren’t pulling through for me. I think in time I will revisit this as I am aware there may be something I’m missing. I really hope I enjoy his other stuff.

Honk shoo to this

I expected it to be more finger pick guitar folky but it was kinda boring and repetitive

Boring

לא אהבתי

Bland.

Sea Change feels very samey. It feels devoid of emotion and it just ends up sounding monotonous. The songs themselves aren't bad by any means, but their entirety as an album ends up being too repetitive and just fails to convey any emotion specially considering the overall theme and lyrics of loneliness, heartbreak and depression. Not a fan, 2/5.

I like golden age but didn’t like the whole album much at all

Kind of a vibe but also didn’t love

No bangers.

Niet echt boeiend. Saaie stem

Ihan jees, mutta tuskinpa kuuntelisin uudestaan. 2/5.

Ja prima

Man this was dull.

благодаря этому альбому зародилась ненависть к акустической гитаре

грустный Бек = скучный Бек

A great Beck album to go to sleep to (2.5/5)

Not unpleasant but a bit monotonous and faded into the background

Found this a little slow, dull and samey. If maybe enjoy it more in a different mood.

Ah Beck, one of the artists who's had the most smoke blown up their ass in the last 30 years and most often proved to be totally overrated. Heck, he even had Willie Nelson sprinkle gold dust over him on a video. This is one of his better albums, but still strangely leaves me cold. He's a head artist for me rather than heart, so this being a slow contemplative work there's something hollow to the exercise. However it still exudes far more charm than most of his work. It's produced by Nigel Godrich and has his signature depth and richness but even back in more depressed self absorbed days this didn't tick my boxes, with a constant glacial feeling that drags you down, the opposite of catharsis. Today I prefer to listen to more upbeat joyous music so this was hard to get through.

It was a pretty good album. I would definitely listen to it again. I think because I listen to these albums while working, I sometimes miss some of the lyrics, and I think this album is really lyric-heavy. The opening song on the album, "The Golden Age," was my favorite. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could.

Album was so boring it generated twice and I listened to the first three tracks before realizing the website glitched lol

It's OK but very mood-specific and I'm not in it, which makes it monotone. Very good engineering.

meh, not my fav genre

love beck but a little too depressing. not his best

I generally like Beck, but this isn't his best work. Sorry about the breakup bud

Helt greit?

Who would have thought that Beck could be this conventional and boring?

not a beck guy i think…

Falling asleep at the wheel here. It literally all sounds the same. I don't understand how someone can listen to this.

Couldn't finish

Worse than Coldplay

Lovely sound but Becks vocals just don't fit here in my opinion.

I like you, Beck, but you’re bumming me the fuck out. I thought I liked this album but it turns out I just like Lost Cause.

Boring. Really boring for someone as creative and interesting as Beck.

I don't really like his style but he has that one good one

cok arkaplan müziği ya benlik degil maalsf

12/29/25. The beginning sounds a little like Coldplay, but mostly a boring album. 4/10

Just boring

Oubliable mais DA intéressante

Boring and mopey

Niet echt mijn smaak muziek. Het was wel erg mooi maar ook erg depressieve vibes. Het tweede nummer vond ik het beste door de string section!

Not really exciting. No specific notes

Sea Change? More like Please Change the tempo. The first song on the record that stood out was “Round The Bend”, which unfortunately for Beck happens to be almost exactly the same as “River Man” by Nick Drake. Sorry, Beck. I love your voice but I do not love this album.

3/10 Boringgg

Well produced, well organized, well written, but kinda boring.

A few genuinely very good bits in here but the album as a whole wasn't that great

Jeg hatet ikke albumet, bare fikk ikke min interesse.

We get it. You’re depressed. Ugh.

Yacht rock without the rock all heard while overdosing on Ambien.

No need for an entire album this sad. Felt like county music without the southern drawl.

Starbucks Gedudel

Well that isn’t what I was expecting. I’ve heard like four Beck songs & they’re all at least weird. This sucked. I also know this list isn’t usually indicative of what the artist usually sounds like, but my once eagerness to dive into Beck albums is out the window.

This is beautiful, but it's got nothing else going for it. All the interesting bits were ripped from Histoire de Melody Nelson.

Ko zapravo sluša Becka? Koja demografska skupina? Jer ja nikog živog ne mogu zamisliti. Inače, koliko god je solidan do dobar muzičar, ne nudi mi apsolutno ništa zanimljivo, inovativno, kreativno. Album je izuzetno dosadan ustvari.

First few songs were good and then it dropped off

Honestly, maybe in the right mood i could have given this album 4 stars, but it was sooo boring, specially after the ace of freaking spades

Lazy, chord strummy songs. Hard pressed to tell each song apart.

Lethargic, languishing, lo-fi lament. Lacking lustre. Better than the last Beck album mind.

boring, boringboringboring

Far too long and boring. Instrumentation was nice but dragged on for too long at times. Not worth listening too again

Things I thought of as I went along: -the panning in paper tiger with the strings in the left ear and electric guitar was really cool -the songs tend to drag with the continuous instrumental. They always occur at the end of the songs which becomes very repetitive. -they’re all very similar to the point that I cannot remember which song is which Overall, I didn’t hate the album- it’s well produced and there are sections of certain songs that stand out to me. However, I found it boring to listen to and probably wouldn’t listen to it again Best songs: Lost Cause It’s all in your mind Worst songs: Round the Bend Sunday sun

A bit gloomy for me.

Way too chill and stripped down without drawling me in elsewhere. Was very ready for it to be over by the end.

Lost Cause is amazing but his later albums are more my style.

Bit slow for my taste.

Thanks to climate change.

I really like Beck. Very clever and original. Except this album. It just doesn't cut it. It is actually quite boring.

good album, i didn’t connect with it the way i wanted to but it was a nice listen. it’s kind of the same vibe as pink floyd but in the early 2000s

Upbeat Beck is best Beck. This stuff is just boring

Bleak, but Paper Tiger was great. 2.4.

I don't mind it, but he doesn't really do anything. It's just mellow and boring, and you'd forget there was supposed to be a musician making a recording. It's not really an album experience, more just listen to someone being sad in the hope that part of it connects to you.

Folk, well, boring. Too slow for my brain. I guess this is supposed to be a break up album. I guess his relationship was that uneventful. Sorry bro, not good.

Pretty mellow album for Beck. I prefer his more upbeat stuff.

holy gen x yeah I am not the target audience for this it’s so boring, every song is so gloomy and dull and they all sound the same 2/5

Serious Beck makes serious music

Lullabies for grownups.

Honestly couldn't differentiate any of the songs

Not for me really.. just pretty sloppy and samey

Just a pretty sad, mopey alternative/indie rock album. I didn't care for anything on it, and it's a little too long. Everything here is ok, but not great.

I was looking forward to this but found it very bland

Bit dull

Obviously a very different Beck than Odelay. Although I do try to allow artists to change, I don't think he would have rose to fame on this. The instrumentals are mostly the sort of slow, throbbing notes that I imagine make the band bored, leaving on the vocals that are not his strength. I respect him for daring to jump to the other end of the spectrum. Honestly I like Guero better. This does make me want to peruse more of the rest of his work though--there are a lot of albums that I missed.

Pretty boring to my ears. "Lost Cause" is nice.

I listened to it twice because I felt I might not have been attentive enough the first time, but it faded to the background again. I want to like it, its good music, I just lose interest. 2.4 outta 5

As with Nick Drake’s Five Leaves Left last weekend (an album Beck seems to be channeling here), I really tried. Three full spins and yeah, it’s a no for me dogg. Kinda boring, pretentious, fuckin mopey. A few moments.

2* jęczenie

There’s just nothing interesting here. All the same.

Bit boring

If it was food it would be stew

Forgot I was listening to music tbh. Just fell into the background

Какой-то унылое завывание. Где тот разноплановый Beck, которого я здесь слышал раньше?

Not my style. Good vibes and a few excellent tracks but overall it just kinda happened.

Aburrido para mí al menos en esta primera escucha

Uh oh, another DNF. And I generally like Beck! But I am not a fan of mopey breakup albums. I'm just not at that point in my life anymore. And honestly? Even when I was I still wanted to hear angry-sad as opposed to sad-sad. After six maudlin ass boohoo songs I was done. They're really well produced and the composition is tight - strangely so for a Beck record! - but they're all slow weepies and that's definitely mood-dependant music. If you're having girl problems I feel bad for you son....

Serious Beck is not really my thing. I prefer nonsense Beck.

Not the best Beck album.

Was fine but I wasn’t very into it

I was just not vibing with sad and depressing sorry beck I like your other stuff better 2 star

okayish - good for mindless listening

Honestly I couldn’t deal with yet another Beck album, didn’t get much attention what I heard was boring. Please no more

It's unbelievable that this album is from 2002. The sound is incredibly modern. But despite that, I don't like it that much. The lyrics are a bit sloppy.

all sounds the same

Didn't know this artist. I paused and listened. I enjoyed it although a few of the tracks were too melancholic for me.

Very different genre from the previous album, but still not feeling it.

Too slow Boring Sad

What happened to Beck? I must admit that if I had heard this album under a different name my opinion may have been different. However, I just could not get over what I knew Beck to be and it took me out of being able to possibly enjoy this album.

I wanted to like this so bad but it was almost an hour of what sounded like the same song and I just couldn’t get into it.

Not what I expected from Beck. This is the most mellow that I've heard from him. It was an ok album.

1. The Golden Age 2. Lost Cause 3. Guess I'm Doing Fine

Haven't heard this album before. I do like Beck but ouch, not when he makes chill music. This almost put me to sleep, I'm used to him making more fun tunes 2/5

Trist mann, dette

was better than i thought it was going to be but i still wouldn’t listen to it again

ziemlich whiney-dudelig. nicht viel zu sagen

So close to being a reccomendation for me, but the tail half of the album just straight up lacks. Cool music, but kinda depressing and exagerated. I like the genre blends, but nothing I will return to. 4/10

Well that was disappointing. What I like most about Beck is how playful and fun he can be. This was well performed but just so dreary and dull. I had to force myself to finish.

It's a nice background listen, but forgettable. 2.5 for me.

wow what a gorgeous album to listen to you while you chase 100 sleeping pills with a bottle of Jack.

Okay, just a little slow for me and not readily as creative as some of his other albums.

This list has given me 3 Beck albums now and I'm still not a fan.

Beck is one of those old school bands / artists that you never realized kept making a ton of music. He hadn't made anything notable since Odelay, but there are a few good albums he's made over the years. This one is not one of those. This list could have included "Colors" which came out in 2017 and is one of my favorites. With that rant over, I'll just say that Sea Change is a somber romp of easy listening but with nothing notable worth mentioning. He apparently wrote this after he found out his fiancée was cheating on him, and it shows. There's a ton of wrist slitters on here... I'm now sadder for having listened to it. I'm not sure I want to add any of these to the playlist as I hate killing the vibes. I might just pop this one on after I finish all 1001 albums if you know what I mean. Despite the depressing tone, It's nice enough work to rate at 2 stars here. After all, Beck is a legend.

Dull has its benefits. Comfortable and comforting; the poetry of banality is all gentle rhyming couplets and familiar imagery. Beck – this Beck anyway, I think he might have been cool in the 90s – is expert at both. It’s all “Lost Causes” this, “End of the Day” that and “Round the Bend” whatever; saying nothing about the congealed mass of quotidian observations that pass for lyrics. (“Love looks away in the harsh light of day” is the level here.) The most interesting song on this record – “Lonesome Tears”, perhaps the only song with any sort of notable development on the whole record – features a string section approximating the Shepard Tone at its denouement. (Shame you first you need to get through Beck talking about his tears for more than four minutes first, but meh.) It’s the perfect analogy really. While, like the Shepard Tone, Sea Change feels like it must be doing something … its true charm is in the realisation that it’s just staying still. So while I wasn’t moved by this record, nor did I resent listening to it. Dull has its place sometimes.

Beck has such great albums….this was a choice.

Liian löysää Beckiä

Sea Change is a pleasant listen, but ultimately left me underwhelmed. Given Beck's impressive discography, I expected more from this album than what it delivered. One of the major shortcomings is the lack of a standout hit or a more energetic track. The album leans heavily into a slow, melancholic vibe and misses the spark of earlier Beck classics like "Devils Haircut" or "Loser." While the mood is consistent, it sometimes feels too one-note and meandering, lacking the dynamism that usually defines his work. Favourite track: "Lost Cause" – a beautifully written and performed song that stands out as a highlight. Least favourite: "Round the Bend" – unfortunately, it lived up to its name; slow, uneventful, and difficult to sit through. Album artwork: Fairly typical for Beck – nothing particularly striking, but fits the tone of the album. Overall, Sea Change is a mellow detour in Beck’s career, but for me, it felt a bit too subdued and lacked the engaging edge I was hoping for.

A little too samey and boring for my tastes. I know I like some Beck songs so this one did frustrate me a bit - it said a lot that this album seemingly had no big hits. I hope we get something more interesting from Beck in the future.

Quite a good sound overall. Liked the lyrics

This is #day330 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… finally, my last Beck album. I still don't get why he's considered an essential listen. You want a compelling breakup record? Try Blemish by David Sylvian, released a year later. As for Sea Change, I can't help but feel like Beck is trying to go Radiohead here, mostly because of the orchestration and drumming, I think (quick check: the album was produced by Nigel Godrich). There's some nice instrumentation scattered throughout, sure, but it really starts to drag halfway in, and the songs don't differ much from one another. Then again, maybe that's how it feels when you're going through a breakup. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day331.

Fine. Couldn’t tell one song from the next. It was all slow and broody. Writing was good by the album didn’t hook me

Overall enjoyed but felt more like one long song than an album

So I found the most boring Beck album today. The side effects are depression, sleepiness, and REALLY wanting to change albums. It's pretty obvious he was going though some things. It sounds like a break up. I did enjoy real instruments, I also liked that it was oversampled and full of gibberish. It's just boring. If I was going though a break-up or in the middle of a deep depression I think this would be the soundtrack. When I want to listen to a Beck album with real instruments and not be sad when I'm done I will put on One Foot in the Grave. It's a much better album.

Nope. I do not like the music of Beck. Dull.

Not really my vibe. Some songs are passable I guess. It was hard to sit through it. Too long - could have been a 40 min album.

I was disappointed in the this album by Beck. It was so different than the other albums of his. I get that not all caches can be upbeat but rarely do I like the sad mid/low tempo versions which is the feeling I got from this one.

Sad Beck writes a nice soulful ballad. But an entire album of them wears thin. This is not the only album on the list of “Oops! All Sad Ballads” and they all disinterest me in the same way. I know music is a form of expression, but it’s like trying to talk to a mopey friend when you’re having a good day. The vibes are never going to match, and they will just bring you to their level.

Not a big fan

too mellow

this is boring sorry Becko 2/5

Não entendi o motivo desse álbum estar aqui, já que o próprio livro faz mais críticas do que elogios a ele. Um álbum insosso.

Very monotone. Not extremely bad, just very boring.

Inoffensively dull

Too poppy

Good but really good? No 2.7

I think this album would have been helped by increasing the tempo overall. Kinda boring to listen to

I found Sea Change utterly unmemorable maudling and bleak, especially vocal-wise. The only exciting moment came at the end of Lonesome Tears. However, the reviews made me check out previous Beck's works and I found them way more enjoyable. There is even some life to his voice and you can decipher words. Maybe if you follow his career in the right order, Sea Change gets a few points for being different?

Love beck but not vibey

i think he has matured a bit since odelay, but i still cannot like him, one hour of beck is too much beck 2.5/5

Nothing crazy nothing that interesting

eh, loved his song “Loser”, but this album wasn’t all the great to me. Not unlistenable, but not something I’d actively seek out to listen to.

Not depressed? Want to be? Listen to this! I liked his earlier stuff a lot, this not so much.

Sea Change but I wish I could’ve heard a change in sound at any point in this album. Round the Bend is one I enjoyed the most.

Beck's mom must've told him to stop mumbling one too many times as a child, and now he's made a whole career out of mumbling lyrics to get back at her. Also, nothing stood out to me on this album. It's not a 1 because I didn't physically cringe at any party of the album.

I expected more energy :(

There is nothing bad with this album except it is incredibly boring.

No reason for this album, his other one was good. If your voice isn't the strongest then you have to demonstrate experimentation but it's just the same song again and again.

Two Becks in three days is at least one too many! This one felt tired and repetitive, not nearly as fresh and upbeat as Odelay (my other recent Beck selection). Both Odelay and Sea Change apparently came out of periods of personal loss and change, but in the former, life events lead to interesting insights and musical inspiration, while the latter just seems to focus on bleak feelings in the bleakest manner imaginable.

The Serge Gainsbourg sample was really the only thing that made me pay this any attention

Next time I go through a breakup I'll be sure to shower to some of these songs lol. Good instrumentation but it wasn't for me 😬

Sorry, but this was just boring.

'Beck' but not 'Jeff Beck'. 'Close but no guitar', how disappointing ;) Actually, 'disappointing' sums this up. I've never knowingly heard 'Beck' and if this is typical I don't particularly want to again. His vocals are lifeless, droning, lacking emotion. It's an album of songs that deserve, no, demand, a voice with some genuine emotional content. This sounds, 'robotic'. Not for me. 2/5.

boringgg

yeah its ok, sad whiteboy sure is sad

Boring

Reminded me a lot of Nick Drake at times. That in itself should have won me over but it was quite bland

I generally really like Beck, in fact I’ve been revisiting his back catalogue a bit since we had Odelay previously in here. However, all I’ve learnt here is not to go near his break up albums; it’s unsurprisingly slow and introspective. If I want melancholy/maudlin rock there are better artists to head to (Lanegan, Misty etc). This album was just sorely missing Beck’s usual upbeat and innovative spark. Disappointing.

Inoffensive and pretty chilled out but not for me

Chiant et pompeux

This is definitely not "two turn-tables and a microphone " Beck. There is definitely a lot of singer-songwriter vibes, and the SFX are there for sure. I found it boring though. I had to stop half way through to do something, and debated not finishing, but pushed through.

☀︎il prononce ses mots comme moi après m’être fait enlever mes dents de sagesse ☀︎what’s up avec la dépression ces derniers temps? est-ce que le générateur a accès à la météo d’où je suis? en tout cas ça s’agence bien avec la pluie

I'm seven tracks in and this is very disappointing, especially after the two previous Beck albums I'd listened to were so much better than I expected. This is morose, almost to the point that I had to remove sharp objects from my immediate environment. It seems this album was made after he broke up with a long-term girlfriend, so I get the sentiment, but fuck me lad - chin up, life goes on. There has not been one moment of joy on the whole album yet. I really don't want to give it one star, as it's not on that level. I'll just have to suck it up and force myself to listen to the last five tracks so I can, potentially, give it two stars!

This is the most 2002 of albums. Any one of these songs could have been plopped into garden state. At first I felt like, hey, I can dig this sad sad droning. But then...it kept going...and going. It was relentless drone.

plaat voorbij? huh? ik was in slaap gevallen... wel goeie plaat daarvoor

I like Beck, but this was too melancholy for me

A little tiresome.

Not my favourite. Found it a bit boring.

Kinda Radiohead-y but minus the interesting musicianship. Way too sad for lawn mowing

Un rock-pop fin troppo leggero. Alcuni sprazzi di gioia ma veramente pochi.

Super boring and predictable. Beck can do much better than this. Occasional high points like Paper Tiger, Lonesome Tears and Golden Age. Just another sad guy with no inspiration. You're not Nick Drake, dude.
