Reviews (page 12 of 12)
Another in a string of not very strong albums.
Rock/punk. Bastante coñazo. Mal sonido. No muy agradable de oír.
A couple of okay songs, but not great for the most part.
I can see it being very good for its time, but it doesn't hold up as something would enjoy continuing to listen to. Most songs are just the same repeating dated riff with a solo on top at the end. The lack of variety within and between songs really made me lose interest overall. I do like the overall sound they have, but the music itself isn't interesting.
Loud!
Too punk for me.
Not that kind of rock that i like. I appreciate the good sound, but nope for me.
loud
Very 70s meh
Not my style, but still get why it's good.
Niet mijn stijl, maar kan er wel naar luisteren (als het moet) Marko
Just not my thing.
Not good. Boring repetitive riffs, meh vocals, bad mix even for 1973
Liked this less than I thought I would
Search and Destroy is a classic but most of the album isn’t my style
Simplemente NO

Super lame

Not for me at all. Totally subjective rating here. Didn’t like any of it
Iggy Pop ja, Stooges nein
Boo to this screaming
I am not a fan of punk rock and this is the band that apparently started in all in the US. A terrible listen.
Not even Iggy Pop's anti-charisma can save this eight-song trainwreck that contains loads of distorted guitars but nothing resembling an actual song. There are virtually no melodies and the chords sound like they were glued together at random. Do yourself a favor, stick the cool cover up on your wall and toss this unlistenable disc.
absoluteltly fucking hate this album
just don’t think it’s for me
Rock and roll mal. No se le entiende nada. No me gustó mucho. Parece un vómito de palabras y guitarra.
Didn’t click for me
This is not for me
Trying to finish an album right now so i didn't get to listen to this
Didn’t like any
Not for me. 1/5
i only listened to the bowie mix favs: i need somebody (bowie mix) rating 0.5/5
For some reason, completely grating and unlistenable to me.
wow! Absolutely awful. raw crap. -1
Straight up weird
i enjoyed none of this, but i do find it interesting entirely for its production. not because the production is good, heavens no, but because it's so bad. i think music production (and audio engineering in general) is a topic that can be broadly nebulous in its meaning because it covers so much but also because without some level of knowledge or experience it's quite abstract to the listening experience. here, it's a great case study in poor production given the album's notorious rushed original job, but also the 20 year later remix. to me each mix showcases something different: the former demonstrates the ample time needed for the technical skill required, and the latter demonstrates that it also takes a significant amount of creative skill that not all possess. i just think that's neat. also, iggy pop is a pedophile and pedophilia is bad.
Dosta dosadan album, zvuči kao neki loš rock punk bend bez ikakve dinamike. 1/5, 1/10
Не мой формат
I can feel the influence of this album. I can tell this is proto-punk. I hear the similarities between this and Horses, but it isn't as good. I want it to commit fully to punk, but I guess there was no punk for it commit to.

Album nie przekonał mnie wcale. Spodziewałam się czegoś innego. I like some of The Stooges song… ale chyba nic na tym albumie
Not for me
43. not for me
No es de mi agrado. Muy noisy. Banda de Iggy Pop
Generally, just NOT my style. I appreciate the role this band and album have in music history, but it's not something I'll ever reach for. There were a few tracks I really wanted to skip during the first listen, but I feel as though I did give a fair shake and listened twice through. The vocals and vocalizations really bothered me, very out of tune at times and jarring. Although I did enjoy some of the instrumentation, the vocal delivery really killed it for me. Sorry Iggy, it's a no for me dawg.
I have never been interested in this group or Iggy Pop. I know of him, having seen interviews and a couple of his acting roles (Tank Girl, Cry-Baby). I was happy living in my limited knowledge. I can now say that I listened to Raw Power and that's about it. I could not connect with any of the songs or melodies. He presents an angst that is unfamiliar and I cannot find common ground. He's good at what he does despite my understanding. Rock on Iggy.
Not for me
i don't really like his voice
didn’t enjoy one minute of this. had to skip some songs halfway bc i knew they would just make my morning worse and worse the longer i listened to them
Not my jam
I thought I was going to enjoy this but it failed to impress me.
Odd I don't like this as it's def my type of music. Generic power chords and awful voice, not as good as Fun House.
DNF. I trudged through half an hour of Iggy Pop mumble-screaming while his guitarist played over him before deciding I respect myself too much to suffer through another two hours of this, and I don't respect myself very much. I don't understand how this album is on a list of "albums you must hear before you die" except as a cautionary tale.
It was as bad as I thought it would be.
Did my headphones break or something? Wtf is this Their music sounds like they don't give a shit but I bet if their house caught on fire they'd stop playing and go put it out
('_'?)
Hardt å jobbe seg gjennom. Bare surr og rop og tynn gitar, på mange måter. Blir ingen 2. gjennomhøring...
There's just so much going on at once, it's like every instrument is trying to overpower (lol) each other. As for Iggy Pop, I don't know what's worse, his howling or his mixing. I found the Bowie mix to bring some much needed clarity here, though even that doesn't do much to salvage the record. In truth this wasn't as offensive as other 1 stars, but as I sit and write this I can't think of a single element I enjoyed about this album. To the banished realm it goes. 🥀
we have had worse but this was not for me. 1.5
Iggy Pop you scream too much!
Oof The first song is a real struggle to listen through. It sounds like the shitty unmastered demo a friend of yours sends to you to see if you like it. Some of the other songs pick up, but never to the point of me liking it.
Iggy Pop. Pretty hard to listen to. Early punk with okay instrumentals are harsh vocals.
Raw and in your face. Sorta tame compared with what was to follow, but unique and shocking for its time. To me, it’s just simple hard rock’n’roll not played very well.
Couldn't finish. Got bored, not strong enough
Not my cup of tea
No
Not my vibe at all. No melodies only noise.
Not my vibe
did not enjoy a single second of this. *fart noise*
Not my jam, every song sounded the same.
One good song
I appreciate its influence but it was not for me
I am not a fan of loudness and shock as 'music' and therefore didn't enjoy this. I also don't like Iggy's voice, kind of like Lou Reed mixed with Mick Jagger but less interesting than both.
Wow, wow, wow, painful listen…. First of all, Iggy pops singing is pretty insufferable. I’m quite broad with what I consider appropriate singing but there are so many moments on this album that remind me of the trash you come across on Instagram reels. Instrumentally this thing is pretty bland too, and the mix is terrible. I listened to the 2023 Iggy pop mix where I think he must’ve been gacked out his mind when remastering this album. The music is muddy and his voice is way too loud on a few tracks. There are a few instrumental elements which I enjoy, the left panned xylophone mirroring the guitar on Penetration is a nice touch (although ruined by Iggy having a nashing fit on the mic). Also the descending chromatic riff on I Need Somebody. If this album does anything for me, it’s prove that making sloppy, noisy music sound good is a lot harder than it seems. Fav tracks - Penetration Worst tracks - everything else…
I've heard the hits before and they're ok but I've never been a fan of iggy
Ehhh not really into this
Boring, derivative, and laughably uninspired. At least it was only about a 30 min listen.
Dont love the stooges
Not for me
Iggy's voice was terrible on this album
Early punk.
Nah
I can understand that it was probably a defining album for the Punk genre, but it was too messy and the bass was out of pocket for half the songs
I hate! 1/5
Not sure if it is just a bad remaster or what, but it genuinely sounds bad. The singing and vocals completely drown out the instruments and seem almost cut and pasted over top.
This tool again. 5 times thus far - FIVE. Maybe the most hilarious outrage of the 1001+. No-talent obnoxious wanker - I'm more stupid for having listened to this. 30 minutes ago before I started I was doing quadratic equations for fun on my Chaucer bookmark and am now doodling boobs on a rocketship. So so dumb. 2/10 1 star.
Really didn't like the mixing on this album, could barely hear anything except a wailing guitar. Possibly listened to the wrong (Bowie) mix. There's probably something enjoyable here, but not with this mix
It's like nails on a chalkboard
Punk as it is
Fuck you
Even if I don't love Iggy and The Stooges I appreciated their prior entry for bringing something unique to the table. Raw Power was an attempt at more of a hard rock approach and for some reason it didn't resonate with me. Everything was pretty generic and run of the mill. Raw Power did nothing for me and was overall disappointing from my end. 1.37 stars
Sounds terrible
Louder
What a crock of shit. I remember listening to this bollocks as a kid, I clearly didn’t inherit my dad’s love of punk rock because I couldn’t wait to never have to hear Iggy Pops voice again (unless they have another bastard album on this list). Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all bad, infact the only thing I hated was iggy’s voice. The rest of the band are pretty talented and if it was just an instrumental album I would’ve toe tapped my way through the just over half hour album. Unfortunately we don’t live in an alternate universe where iggy pop was just a weirdo with a run of the mill job, who knew he sounded like a fox getting gang banged whenever he attempted to sing. As such I had a miserable time listening to this nonsense. I’m sure there’s a place for this album on the list because of its influence on the punk rock genre, however, this did not do it for me at all. To end on a slightly positive note, it was more enjoyable than iggy’s swift card adverts back in the day
Shame about the singer. Talentless
So much noise, it's so soul and mind disturbing, like who listens to this on purpose or recreationally? They might be the precursor to garage rock and grunge, but truth be said, little stranger, I just don't care.
Fells powerful skull
Absolutely terrible. Stopped listening halfway through. It takes a very unique taste in music to enjoy more than 2 minutes of this style.
Punk Rock ätz…wie viele andere
D, I didn't like any of the songs
Not a fan.
just no
- meh, langweilig irgendwie
It's alright, if I had been born in a different time I would probably have loved this. The music doesn't have much appeal to me, lyrically it's okay. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything by never listening to this again, it just isn't very interesting to me.
This rating might be unfairly low because only one of the anniversary editions was available on YTM, but the songs felt very repetitive and after 2/3 of the album I called it quits because I no longer had hopes of any deviation
No.
Punk
I know it is a classic, but cannot stand Iggy's voice!
Not a fan of punk rock
Painful If you want a reason why Iggy Pop has always been in the third tier, then here you go
In this ever changing world it is comforting to know that some things don't change. Things like Iggy's ghastly singing. The kind of singing that make the other members of the band seem like almost competent musicians. That said at least this album provokes some emotion (negative as it is) unlike the horribly bland and boring Kiss album yesterday.
No music, just noise
Скучная старая хуйня. Вырубил на первом треке. Панк это ваще параша бля.
ehh
Hard listening. Trebles in the mix are overwhelming. Need a little more soulful influence in my music…non-existent here.
Not into Iggy Pop, but for what he does, he does well.
Not for me
Chaotic and noisy in a bad way
Not a fan
This was not good lol. Mostly just noise
I had already heard parts of all the album's tracks. For me this album is unlistenable. It's not like nobody before the Stooges had performed rock music in this kind of unskilled and unserious manner, such as amateur 1960s garage rock bands. By 1970 and later by the time of the rise of punk rock, for there to have been any demand for this music indicates more than a minimal amount of drug-based alienation and dysfunction in the surrounding society, plus a reaction by music listeners against the uncreative corporatization of the rock music industry.
Ekki fyrir mig
Garagenrock zwischen Hardrock und Punk, Musik für Ohrenschmerzen, ungewünschter Besuch?, Erfolg garantiert
I had missed this one originally and finally got around to listening to it. I wish I hadn’t.
I barely got into this one but I tried.
Schlechter Punk Rock.
I'd probably like this if I never heard music before
For a remaster, this sounded shit. Another album I didn't finish, another album not worth a review.
Not my thing. A bit to electric jam band for me.
Irritating and inmelodious
not my thing
No.
Why does this album cover kind of creep me out? I can see how this preempts punk and maybe some 90s alternative, but it's not my jam at all. 1*
Don’t like punk. Too discordant.
Not a fan of this style music.
Nah
Well now I know why I was never into the Stooges.

Seemed ok. Nothing memorable
not my thing
Don't like the voice and that ruins every song for me. Sorry Iggy.
Not my vibe. Understand the origin but can't get into the music.
I hate the mixing on the first tack. Why do the guitars sound so flat and muted? Not looking forward to the rest of the album after this first song. There were a couple cool guitar parts I guess. Overall this is a no from me dog. Punk is not good music.
Why would someone make and sell this album

I listened to this like three times and never rated because I couldn't determine whether this was a two or worthy of a one. But the idea of listening to this a fourth time makes me want to shove toothpicks straight into my earballs, so I feel like this rating is warranted.
Can someone please explain the love for The Stooges? This sh** is terrible. The vocals are laugh-out-loud funny and the music is nothing to write home about.
This is what I imagine smell the glove would sound like - really not my thing.
Harsh sound. Did not love it
Some of these songs feel like fun Guitar Hero songs, but I had to skip a couple. Not a big fan
Not a fan of iggys voice in earlier stuff
No thanks, not my cup a tea!
Despite growing up on similar genres of music, I found only a few tracks listenable (but not great). From what I gather reading about the group and listening to this album, it seems like you either had to grow up with it or you're into the sort of stage acts Iggy Pop seems to be famous for.
Habe ich nicht gehört und werde ich auch nicht hören. Und gebe trotzdem einen Stern, weil ich alles von den Stooges verabscheue.
So from what I'm reading there seems to be a mess with differently mixed versions and Spotify only has the "Iggy Pop Mix" versions. I'm basing my review on that, but since the mixing seems like one of the worst things about this album to me, I'm not sure if that's fair/accurate. Anyway, this is a horrible, noisy mess. I only listened to the first half of the album but I'm stopping here because I can't concentrate on my work with this playing. I guess by itself this album might be closer to a 2 than a 1, since there are some decent guitar tracks hidden in this chaotically scrambled mix. But I'm tending to the 1 because this album enabled the abomination that is punk music. At least now I know which album to delete from music history if I ever manage to travel back in time.
1/5 not at all, sorry stooges
Only good thing about this album was how short it was...
Eh
I can't stand to listen to this album at all due to it being an old music album in a genre I cared little for.
Loved this
Noise
Nope. As awful as I expected, never been a fan of Iggy and this did nothing to sway me. I was wrong I will be giving out a 1* on this list!
לא אוהבת
no. pls no why so aggressive and angry my dude.
Not a fan, yikes. Tough to listen to in places, but they did some fun stuff with the stereo audio.
Energisk, rebelsk, grime 60’er rock n roll
Love Iggy and the Stooges.
Already listened goat album
Better than I remember, but the dedubro energy is still pretty strong on some tracks. Really not a fan of You Shook Me All Night Long still. Would maybe put this album on if I was doing some manual labor but even then I'd be more likely to go with something punchier.
8/10
