Reviews (page 10 of 12)
Energetic, jarring - not one for dinner parties
Not on a par with lust for life but some brilliant tracks and reason for me to explore more Iggy
A lot of nice short catchy tunes, an enjoyable 3.5
better than expected but still eh
Could take it or leave it.
the father of punk rock?
Banger
"I'm a streetwalking cheetah with a heart full of napalm I'm a runaway son of the nuclear A-bomb I am the world's forgotten boy The one who searches and destroys" (Search and destroy) Le pongo un 3/5 temporal porque me habría gustado escucharlo con más calma pero justo hoy tenía que ser el día que más me toca trabajar del año.
good
I can appreciate it for what it is but it's not really my thing.
Not a bad album, but definitely not something I think I'd ever go back to. There were some fun songs, but punk just isn't my thing Favorite Track(s): "I Need Somebody" and "Death Trip"
Lives up to the title. Filled to the brim with grainy/tinny whining guitar licks & energy flowing from Iggy with every scream. The production seems intentionally rough. Title track is cleaner and catchy. The final song, Death Trip is a wild, chaotic & loud ride
Lil too raw
Kinda funky eagles!!
Definitely punk. Enjoyed most of it
Too much distortion, it hurts my brain
Don’t love the music but really appreciate what Iggy Pop did for the genre overall.
Started strong then lost me. Messy-sounding and piercing with low production value, but I guess that's the point. Some real bops! Would relisten to a few songs.
high energy ponk bastante guarro
Best Iggy pop album so so far, still iggy pop though
Dad rock
A bit much, too many bangers.
3.0
Energetic and poppy.
Enjoyed four songs.
i kinda love the album cover. nothing on this is boring me, it’s sonically interesting. but it’s just ok overall. the screaming was kinda grating. i’m kinda feeling “i need somebody”.
Glad I waited to listen to this one, the difference sonically between the original and the 1997 re-release is massive, gimmie danger & I need somebody are wonderful, the rest is a good listen but not something I would revisit outside of those tracks, would go 3.5 if I could
Probably won't listen to again. Penetration was the only song that stood out
Something that I just don't understand. It's raw and full of truth just not enjoyable to me.
i got Fun House a while ago and gave it 1 star. i'm about 300 albums in and i've only given seven or eight 1 star reviews, so that's an indication of how much i HATED Fun House. i don't care guys, it sucked ok. so when i got this today my heart sank and when i learned there are two mixes and it's not clear which mix is the definitive one my heart sank even further because i thought it's only fair to give both a go................ anyway this is better than Fun House. i didn't want to rip my own ears off my head. there's a xylophone or something in Penetration (lmao what a sentence). that was my favourite part of the album. by the end of it though i was Stooged Out and i decided not to listen to the Bowie mix because i remembered i have free will and life is too short. ok bye.
The instrumentals are great, lyrics are fine, nothing revolutionary, but I despise the main vocalist's voice. The album is definitely innovative for its time I just can't get over the strange vocal style. Not a pleasure to listen to.
Listen out of order since Spotify licensing shenanigans
I guess you had to be there. I was a bit disappointed to be honest, Iggy is a great performer with some great songs but I just didn’t enjoy this that much.
Love Iggy as radio presenter but his music doesn't do much for me
The sound quality was awful
Ass
Honestly really interesting, bit repetitive and the recording isn’t the best of course. Probably need to listen to it more.
It was fine, not my favorite, but I refused to listen to the album twice as it was presented on youtube.com, so I checked amazon and it was only the first 8 songs.
Uninteresting
Sounds like all the same, even though the Bowie and Iggy mixes are very different.
Bit weak from a decent band. Love Iggy but this was drosh at times. Started well then just dialed it in and didn't really get out of second gear
fine
Classic 70s. Lots of potential, but just overdone instrumentals and bad lyrics
For most of this album I was hating it and thinking "put a shirt on, you disgust me." With all the weird noises he was making "ngyah, ngyah, ngyah". The last few songs were a bit better though. At least it was a short album.
Other than “Search and Destroy” this just didn’t land with me.
ok album
I've heard his stuff before, even saw him once. Guess I wasn't feeling it this morning ... had to stop the music(?) half way through.
Hmmm not my bag, bit samey
This album oozes testosterone and honestly, I’m not into it.
The mixing sucks and the drums sound like shit, also not a fan of the vocalist. Basically it's some of the most ordinary dadrock especially with the guitars that kind of randomly decide it's time for a lick or solo that doesn't really fit with the rest of the songs.
it's not bad, was confused by the bowie/iggy mix nonsense though 💥search and destroy
NOT for me. irritating. but iggy pop looks so good in the album cover photo. i need somebody wasnt bad
4/10 Tried with The Stooges before, I can appreciate it but it’s never clicked. I like Iggy’s solo stuff though. Favourites: Search and Destroy ⭐️ Gimme Danger I Need Somebody
mwah
yllättävän ykstoikkoinen, hieman pettymys
There was nothing special about this album to me at all. It was all a bit boring, with nothing interesting me in any of it. It was all kind of just noise to me, and unless I was concentrating to my highest level, all of the songs would just sort of mush together with nothing memorable in between. I wasn't a fan of this; however, it wasn't the most horrendous thing I've ever listened to. There were no real standouts to me...
A Classic - I've never listened to Iggy Pop prior to this album; I can hear and feel the early brit rock style in this project. A lot of the tone and vibes of this project reminded me of the background music of a tony hawk or skate game Best song - Death Trip
Didn't really connect with this one. Very loud, agressive, unpolished. Foundational proto punk album but not one I see myself revisiting in the future.
Absolut gar nichts für mich
Eric Cartman ass vocals. Not really for me, and tbh I don't really get it.
Just ok,
In a decade absolutely bursting with perv rockers, Iggy might have been the king. You can practically taste his weird goop all over this record. I get why this was a big deal at the time, but listening with a modern ear there's not really anything that makes this album stand out beyond Iggy's lecherous vocal fry. It's a 2.5 from me.
tossed up on which mix to listen to- listened to search and destroy once with the 2023 iggy mix, once with the 2023 bowie mix, then again with the iggy mix and stuck with that one. guitar loses a bit of the edge but i do like the loud bass. its nice in my ears. i should read about the loudness wars classic rock album. nothing for me to write home about honestly, this kind of rock isnt really my style alas i need somebody is nice. i would love to learn how this kind of slow rock is done because i tried composing some recently and it was hard!!!! highlights: penetration (crazy vocals!!)
First two songs were pretty good but I didn't really enjoy the rest
The Iggy mixes are better than the Bowie mixes but the songs are still mediocre. Billy Idol owes a lot to Iggy for the trail he blazed.
Meh! I am not as into this as I would think I should be.
This is a meh for me. I know my ratings are trending harsher, but I'm simply uninterested in this much guitar! Disclaimer: I listened to the 2023 remaster, which I guess is a different mix than the original (which I could not easily find). So, maybe my rating has an asterisk (but I kinda doubt it).
I've heard worse but my ears are still bleeding a little. If I have to listen to this whole thing it will be a bit torturous
Respect to Iggy for breaking ground but not great if you don’t like punk
Two diff versions of this record - I mostly listened to the Bowie mixes but comparing a few songs from the Iggy version was interesting. The whole thing is mostly not my jam though.
Found this one tough to get through. Listened to the Iggy mix. It’s just not for me this early punk stuff. Like learn to play guitar and sing you degenerates?
The first Stooges album of three in this collection (first for me, last chronologically of the collection), and I must admit I'm a little disappointed that we got more Stooges and less solo Iggy Pop, if this album is much like the previous two Stooges productions. "Search and destroy" is an interesting choice to start off the album, as it set me up to expect that the album would be kind of a harsh proto-punk sound, but other tracks are mildly more entertaining--"Gimme danger" has an almost Doors-like sound (assuming the Doors chose to record in a wind tunnel from far away), and "Penetration" is another promising direction. Unfortunately, despite Bowie's efforts to recover from Pop's apparently abysmal mix, the production quality is really mediocre (even with the 2023 remastered version), so much so that it distracts from the music, such as it is, and I'll admit I would never have guessed that Iggy Pop was singing the songs (except for "I need somebody" and bits of "Death trip", he sounds a lot more like Darby Clash from the very recent Germs album, which isn't a good thing). I'd be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt and an extra star (and respect the apparently unanimous critical love of what this album represented) if there weren't two more Stooges albums ahead of me (and one Germs immediately behind), so two it is. Sorry, Stooges!
I dont fucking care, bring me my homunculus that I flick cigarette ash towards, this album bores me.
Not my favorite
Kinda meh, but not as bad as I was expecting
Rock that doesn’t do it for me.
interesting i guess 6.1/10
pas mal mais déjà il n'y avait que la version d'anniversaire sur deezer avec les différent remix (Bowie ou Iggy) mais pas mal franchement je réécouterai maybe not we'll see 3
I fear this one is too much raw and dirty for me to enjoy it.
nice feels like a billiards and ace of spades type of vibe
Best Track - "Gimme Danger"
Went for the Bowie Mix, opinion seems strongly divided which is better so went for the OG. Raw Power is certainly apt. I know Search and Destroy quite well but hadn't heard any of the others. Didn't do much for me unfortunately. If you want rawer power "I Wanna Be Your Dog" is a crazy sound for 1969
Fine, was pretty uneventful but wasn't offensive or anything either. Nothing here that makes me want to come running back any time soon. (2.5/5)
21/04/26 voz irritante e capa consideravelmente ruim chato desculpa aí iggy pop
Didn't love it.
Meh
I'm starting to realize that the loud, distorted messiness of punk is really not for me.
I guess I just don’t see it. I was bored for most of this. The guitar sound is cool enough but the songs it’s being used in service of… it just doesn’t feel like there’s much there
most of the music sounds like ass i need somebody is probably the best idk
Oh, okay, first repeat after joining a group, we'll see. TOMMOROW DAY: Well, i hated it last time, i don't like it now
Not my favorite Stooges album. Feels overly tame by today's standards
it was fun but I didn’t care much. I like the following one much more
standard-faire rock album, would give a 2.5
I really thought I'd like this one more than I did. I think I might have to come back to it some other time and re-evaluate how I feel about it but yesterday it was not hitting.
I've never really "got" Iggy - the lyrics are great but just not a fan of the sound. I think I'm missing the context that this music was likely novel when it landed.
Fun listen, i really enjoyed the instrumentation on this album, the voacls though... they were very interesting. dont think ill ever revist since its not really my cup of tea. favorite(s): search and destroy least favorite: your pretty face is going to hell
- iggy mix (2023 remaster) - reminds me of velvet underground, pixies, who, clash, etc - i kind of want to know what the bowie mix sounds like now - i like the guitars - favorite track: i need somebody - rating: 2/5
Oh good another rock album from the 70s, such diverse music choices
Really like the bass in the mix. Talented player there. The general instrumentation is good, minus a few widdly wah parts. One too many widdly wahs. Lower overall sound quality but it fits that early punk tone. The vocals—way too over the top for my taste. Rock and roll clown vibes. But he does kinda have a Morrison vibe on a couple of the songs. The drunk shouty thing. AAHYEEEAaaaaaahhh. 2.0/5.0
There really isn’t anything about this album that I enjoyed.
Not as jarringly bad as I thought it would be. Wouldn't rush to listen again though.
I definitely have not listened to this album. As much as I want to enjoy it (due to his connection with David Bowie), I just don’t have a connection to Iggy Pop or early punk. I’m glad to have listened to it once. I probably won’t reach for it again.
Punk rock and stuff
Feels like unlistenable noise at some points. You are better off listening to their self-titled album.
I get this was instrumental in defining a new genre and musical direction, but I just can’t get there. Not for me. The production is also super weak, and doesn’t live up to the ‘Raw Power’ title at all. No low end to be heard.
2026.02.23.
I wish steve albini could be revived and go back in time to produce this album. The awful production (on both versions) ruins what could be a decent experience. A major standout is penetration, which could genuinely be a throbbing gristle song. Most of the others though were quite miserable.
Not for me
It’s fine, but how many fucking iggy albums do we really need to listen to
Not a huge fan of Iggy's presence on these tracks and the mixing is extremely intense which you have to be in the mood for (in fairness I listened to the Iggy version which I hear may not be the best move necessarily, I may revisit)
meh
I'm not big on rock of any sort; i have childhood songs that i adore, but new ones have never appealed to me indeed. Still, i heard it all and I can say some solos were very much to my liking, but they aren't worth sitting through the whole song for me specifically-
Meh.
none of the songs really stood out to me
Wasn’t in the mood
I did not like this album, it was all over the place the beat was rough and the vocals were mid.
Nicht so meins.
I get that it's supposed to sound noisy and terribly mixed, but I still don't like it. I still don't like punk. Can I still appreciate what this album contributed to the rise of punk music despite this? Of course.
More boring and bad sounding punk.
Annoying & unnecessary noise, like the majority of Pop's output
“I’m a street walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm.”
*1973 *Two Stooges albums in 2 days is too much, so it took me a month to listen to this... *Short album - 35 minutes. *Just not my vibe. It's not bad, just not into it. RATING - 5.5/10
I don't really have much to say about this album. I didn't really like it other than the song Gimme Danger. A lot of the other songs just sounded like the same song over and over again.
Probably a controversial opinion, but I think this album is just mindless 70s rock. Poor production, even the Bowie cut, and lyrics that get pretty degenerate and unintelligible at times. Penetration probably knocked this down a whole star for me. I can see the influence, but it's not for me. More junk for the bucket.
Low effort generipunk jam sesh 3.8/10
Wasn't for me, but can still understand the importance and cultural impact it had.
Guitars sound thick and dirty which I like, but I find Iggy gets lost over the top.
Man, this sounds like shit in both mixes. I gave Fun House 5 stars but didn't really enjoy this. It sounds too far towards standard rock or Bowie's glam rock to be anywhere near as fierce as the previous album. And it sounds awful. Did they record it on a dictaphone?
Niet mn ding
Classic rock'n'roll album but poor production and it all kinda sounds the same
I quite liked the first two tracks, but then it quickly went down hill. Disappointing. 2/5.
More of a fan of the attitude, and not so much the music. Rock-a-billy music does not sit with me.
Vocals sound like they’re recorded on a microwave. Not horrific but definitely not great
This was supposedly hard-core screaming rock that wasn’t very good from the 1970s
Meh. Just kinda hootin' and hollerin.
Hm….not my thing
this is not really up my alley i don't think
Making his fourth apperance on this list in 600 albums, it's Iggy Pop. This, for me, has crossed into overrepresentation. These guys are good, I like them, but MAKE SOME ROOM, oh my God, please, give me some albums which are new and fresh and interesting. This is fine but it's not amazing, and I've basically heard it before.
Not really my style
Not my thing at all :\
não faz meu tipo de música
Something my dad would like I guess. Raw power… more like heavy rock
That was a lot
It was alright, I enjoyed it enough for it not to be a 1 star. Nothing really stuck out to me.
Not a punk fan
This is your goat? I admit I listen to the worse original mix, but I can't imagine a better fix is that much more interesting
Every song sounds the same. I enjoy the sound. But it gets a little old after a while. Understand Iggy’s place in history. Album likely deserves to be on the list. But still not an all time great album. 2.5
More metally / hard rock, less punk than I was expecting, though the generator is teaching me that those lines were very porous in the 70s. I can’t say I really enjoyed most of these songs, though.
1/3. Most of this just didn't really grab me, pretty muddy-sounding production, and just not really my vibe. Raw Power and Shake Appeal were my favorite tracks, solid riffs on both, but the rest just passed me by. I do like the unadulterated hedonism and rock and roll spirit of the lyrics though.
Never had much exposure to Iggy Pop's music but I can understand how he made a name for himself in the rock scene. Unfortunately, none of the songs on this particular album really piqued my interest.
Fue un álbum al que le tenía fe, y no falló. Unas guitarras bestiales, una voz eléctrica. Vibraciones intensas, buena experiencia. TOP 3 – I Need Somebody, Shake Appeal & Death Trip
Honestly, this was also not my thing, but I REALLY do not like Iggy Pop. Regardless of his influence he just pmo, I'd rather listen to Bowie.
Not really my vibe. Early punk. Neat to hear where the sound evolved from.
Strange album of bad singing and not great otherwise.
Nice snot rock 'n' all. There was one tough groove. That was it.
GOING IN: Quite hopeful LISTENED WHILE: Saturday morning, pottering about FAMILIARITY: Know the artist, not the album SKIP RATE: Played it straight through REPLAY VALUE: Might come back to it DISCOVERY CURVE: Still waiting VERDICT: Bit disappointing BODY'S VERDICT: Sitting nicely / Motionless appreciation FAVOURITE TRACK: none My Rating: 2
Not really my thing.
This album really doesn't do anything special for me. A new guitarist at the time and has a few good riffs and solos. Can see how this album could be influential to those in the punk scene. The music just doesn't speak to me.
Search and Destroy rules. I haven’t really listened to the stooges much. But the sound is pretty good, gritty. Everything else on the album kind of sounds like a worse version of Search and Destroy. Some songs are fun and I know this sound is pretty formative for bands that came after, but It’s not blowing me away.
Wow, both Stooges albums back to back for me. This one is more tolerable than the last one, but still not all that great
This just sounds so ... thin? I'm aware there's a different mix by Iggy which is supposedly louder, but I was suitably unimpressed by the original version I have no interest in trying it again (at least at the moment).
Did not like it. The group sounded talented and the instruments were great, but I did not love the music and the sound was not for me. "Search and Destroy" - Enjoyed the sound for the first two minutes but then got tired of the song. "Gimme Danger" - Liked the beginning bit but then I did not enjoy the style of singing past the beginning. "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell" - The guitar player and instrumental is good but truly I feel as though I am being screeched at. "Penetration" - I really did not enjoy this, the way he is growling penetration is not for me. "Raw Power" - I enjoy the upbeat nature of this with the rough voice, I think it pairs very well but was done before the end. "I Need Somebody" - I honestly really liked the interesting sound in this and felt the song came together very well but was not into it by the end. "Shake Appeal" - I really dislike this. "Death Trip" - Did not really enjoy.
"Search and Destroy" - i liked the instrumentation a lot but after about 2:30 mins i was ready for it to be over "Gimme Danger" - i really liked the beginning until about 3 mins and i started to get really annoyed "Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell" - once again i really like the instrumental but not the voice omg please stop i had to skip partway through "Penetration" - this is weird "Raw Power" - kinda dig it but felt really repetitive, was ready for it to be over around 2:30 "I Need Somebody" - reallyyy like the beginning, the rest was ok, the end i didn't much like "Shake Appeal" - haaated the very beginning, grew on me a little, wentt back to not liking it "Death Trip" - i'm over the whole album by now but i didn't hate this but please stop screaming at me tl;dr - wasn't for me, i generally enjoyed the instruments in almost all these songs but i'm not a fan of his voice. i see how it's instrumental to music, especially since it's true punk rock before punk rock took off in the 90s, but still not really my style.
Precursor to punk - very influential at the time it was released. Not great to listen to. Pitchfork: 8.3 (2010 rerelease) Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #128 (2023)
1973. Mostly yelling and rocking which was pretty decent.
Iggy Pop’s voice will always be the detractor for The Stooges to me. The songs are great, but held back just a bit
Schade.
I like some of their songs. But none of these.
Not on my list of good music
Average.
Kinda felt more like hard rock or metal than rock. Not my thing.
2/5
Gar nix. Nur wegen Bowie
"Search and Destroy" as the album opener... whoa! Coming out hot! Short album with only 8 songs & 34 min run time. Honestly, first thing I noticed was how young and un-wrinkly Iggy Pop looks on the album cover. Great sound and apparently influenced a ton of bands. Not quite the generational bangers to get huge rating but good album.
Oh boy... people really like this one, huh? Am I brave enough to say I didn't like an Iggy Pop album? Well it's true, and this is anonymous so sure, why not? I get that this album is a big deal and everything, but I just can't vibe with it at all. Not for me. Iggy Pop looks like a Stand user on the cover. That is all.
2.5
second Iggy album in three days. joy.
Fun House was better.
I can hear that it could be good music, but it's clearly not what I like.
Wel prima muziek, niet mijn muziek
Raw Power” (1973) lands as old-school, noisy rock—harsh and not particularly surprising; I wouldn’t replay it.
It’s not bad music. Not really enjoyable either.
Ok
Take i need somebody and head east
2 out of 5 Some of the Stooge's songs are iconic. Some are painful to my ears.
i was never a big fan of iggy's vocals, thats why it was even hard for me to play this album in the first place. but i did! and i found the guitars very appealing, i love the raw/dirty sound of them, thats what i dig. buuuuut... i think that's it. i can't relax while listening, can't headbang, the album is lacking some HIT powerful moments imo. "raw power" has potential, its beginning nicely, hardly, but then still... nothing more is happening. the same with "i need somebody", sounds so nice at the beginning, but then... what? not even one good solo. VERY BORING ALBUM IN GENERAL.
these days iggy pop on 6music has great musical taste these days , shame i don’t like this album . 2
My poor Spotify algorithm. Based on recent albums I’m now getting recommendations for “Dive Bar Anthems” and “Indie Sleaze” playlists. I want my hippie music back. I don’t understand angry, jarring music with singers who scream more than sing. I’m a peace and love kind of girl. Plus, I’m old and it hurts my ears. But it was better than yesterday’s….so that’s something.
Legends of old school but never really did it for me.
eh not really for me
Wasn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t seek it out to listen to again, mostly because there just wasn’t enough going on for me- just sounded very generic but a bit dry.
It was ok! Some good guitar licks but otherwise faded into the background for me.
Music without an apparent POV places more importance on how it functions to make the listener feel. Moody and reflective, yet lacking the interesting hooks of Caribou, the communal celebratory vibes of Moby/ Fatboy or the toke-inspiring doominess of Tangerine Dream; this is EDM that follows some middle path and for me misses way more than it hits.
Top track: I Need Somebody
Sellasta blues - rock - oliko jotain metallintynkääkin alkukantaista.
i shouldn’t have tried to listen to this in the morning probably but did not enjoy
Not my thing
nice, but too raw, 1979, not really the best recording equipment, so not really my kinda vibe
Don't get it. Listened to the 2023 remaster and it sounds pretty mediocre
Didn't enjoy this that much tbh. Tried. Even went back to some songs again. Just found it a bit creepy and the songs didn't stick.
Found this one quite dull, the streak is over 2
Favorite tracks: Gimme Danger, Shake Appeal
One of the reviews on this very website said that this was a top 10 album *of all time* Whatever that guy was smoking, I would like a sample. Some rocking guitar throughout the album but the overall production value was so low that even the guitar was not pleasing to the ears. The melodies themselves didn’t make me interested enough to go look up the Bowie version either. I’m sure this is a fine album for someone who has only heard like 5 other albums in their life
Definitely listening to this in the wrong decade at the wrong age. I understand the influence, and it's really cool that there are two versions that sound completely different, but I don't like The Stooges and I would never listen to this again.
I liked the first two songs. The rest was boring and not very memorable.
Meh, it's ok. Not sure it is a must listen album.
Not for me but can understand the impact it had on modern rock/grunge and that it was one of the first of it's time.
Not for me
Meh.
Not my jam, I can pickup on the punk influences that developed later on but this wasn't that great
This is fairly ass but not as ass as I expected having been forced to listen to an Iggy Pop album. Still ass though
This kind of music makes me nauseous
Not sure really what to make of this. It's the kind of thing I would expect to like, but also not very good. Not awful, but just not good.
Not something I would typically listen to but I can defiantly see why this album is influential.
This is an album and band I like more in theory than practice. I will come back for “I Need Somebody,” but not much else. You would think after three albums that the songs and production would improve. Nope.
I have a feeling I'd like this a lot more if I were thirty years younger and male. For all Iggy's androgyny, this basically reeks testosterone. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just not MY thing.
I really couldn't get into this one. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't interesting.
meh
A very intense and raw record. Full of jagged edges, and rough, nasty punk chaos. However, I just don't feel the charm in this record. Very one-dimensional, and nothing really hooked me enough to justify its narrow scope. I am sure the sound and style of this record was pretty influential and ground-breaking at the time, but it sounds so thin and flat to me. I was wanting more from this. 4/10
ass
There were one or two songs that were okay, but it mostly just felt bland. I know people in the reviews talk about it being proto punk, but it mostly just feels like chugging rock. There was an extra irony to how impotent a song named Raw Power was. I’m glad that punk went on to evolve into something with more to say and more to care about.
Never would have guessed the year was 1973 would have thought of it later ‘70s during Punk Rock era. Song writing good… sound quality overall pretty bad… the sound of the lead guitar is harsh but the rhythm guitar parts are very cool and catchy …. I personally can’t get past the bad sound…
This album is yet another generation down the incestuous tree of artists downstream of David Bowie. The further you get away from big man himself the worse it gets. It’s a cheap copy of a cheap copy with a little extra late dynasty Hapsburg DNA thrown in there. This is just more solid proof that nobody can recreate the magic of the king.
A bit too hard core for me.
Pretty much what I expected and it was fine. I think I'd need something a bit catchier to score it three
This should have been my thing but it just really didn't work for me at all.
This is a very forgettable album tbh I finished this in no time and I don't rly have any opinions. It was just music tbh. Good guitar riffs ig and some songs were annoying but other then that it’s just solid 5.6/10 2.8/5
No mha convençut gens.
I like the David Bowie mix better. it's more focused and palatable. I know some may consider that a negative but I can't listen to the other versions
Didn't know Iggy Pop was originally in a band, unfortunately it's just as bad as his solo work.
Not for me
Another influential album to a lot of critics but just eh.
Amazing for Rock listeners but not for me.
It has it’s place for being a vanguard punk forerunner but does not equate to being on this list.
Don’t really care for the stooges. Wasn’t my kind of music.
Not for me. I've never been able to get into Iggy.
Angry, angry young man
Rock. Men ligegyldigt.
I really enjoyed Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell, but outside of that, no spark.
Meh
Knew the opening track but the rest was new. Definitely noisy hard rock. Did not really connect with this album.
Meh
Didn’t capture my interest.
Was this groundbreaking? Was all the 70s rock on this list groundbreaking? For me, this was one of the least interesting entries.
Punk again. Meh
Idk didn’t listen
Didn't interest me at all
at least it was only 34 minutes
I liked the instrumentals
I appreciated the gritty punk feel of this album. That said it felt poorly mixed. Maybe just the 1970s recording techniques. Gave it several listens. Not sure I’d put it into regular rotation. 2/5
Just no... Too much tuneless noise
Ka, esch ergendwie ned so mis deng. Es esch schwerig z säge dass är schlächt sengt, was wahrschiindlech chuum de Fall esch, ech has jetzt aber ned so gfühlt ond werd chuum zo dem zrogg cho
5.2
A little more raw if punk rock than I prefer. I like aggy pops esthetic tho
Another Stooges album I still don’t get the hype like the guitar work and not much else
Durd Chopfhörer wirds mer schnell chli repetitiv.
2 1/2 Stars: Hard to believe this was the seed for Punk Rock. It's much more melodic and not quite as raw as I was expecting. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it. Probably the first album since I started this project that didn't elicit much of a feeling about it one way or the other.
I listened to both the Bowie Mix and the Iggy Pop Mix. The Bowie Mix is better. That being said, the album was just okay. Nothing really special about this.
2/5 not bad, but still punk (not a fan)
This album sounds like the sort of album I might like but actually it's entirely forgettable even after a couple of listens. Maybe I'm just not in the mood for it.
Very appreciative of this being not super duper long for no reason. I didn’t enjoy it much but it wasn’t awful. Catered to their audience well.
I’m sure this contained innovations at the time of its release, but it doesn’t make for a great album. I want to like it more than I do.
Not a fan.
4/10 - Not great but nothing horrible
Solidly whatever. just not my jam. 2/5 stars.
well expected to like this album more somehow...
It’s not my cup of tea, but I wouldn’t be upset if this was the juice in my sippy cup. Wild learning about Iggy Pop

2.5
I never heard of this band but after listening to it couldnt find anything wrong with it as such but personally couldnt get engaged with it or find any value in it.
just another punk album.
..
No don’t get it
Iggy Mix - 'Gimme Danger' is worth a listen. The mixing on this still feels weird (the Bowie one just sounded worse to me). Sounds like if the Rolling Stones tried to do punk rock
i listened to iggys mix, it aight. does sound like shit but feels better than bowies mix
Perhaps it's because I was too focused on my work, but nothing on here stood out to me.
01) Search and Destroy - 6,5 02) Gimme Danger - 6,0 03) Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell - 5,5 04) Penetration - 6,0 05) Raw Power - 6,0 06) I Need Somebody - 6,0 07) Shake Appeal - 6,0 08) Death Trip - 5,5 TOTAL: 5,94 (59/100) Current ranking: 408/514
It was ok
Iggy’s voice can be oddly soft and bright, but it can also be gritty and harsh. A lot of personality. Some catchy guitar riffs. Not my fave, but definitely unique.
Another's one where just because it may be influential on others doesn't mean it's good
I like search and destroy but on the whole I think this is a little one note, and a grating note at that. This kind of aggressive, vaguely adolescent punk rock is probably much better live where the energy is part of the appeal. Listening to it 40 years later on a recording, it just sounds like basic rock music played somewhat poorly.
This really wasn't my cup of tea. Felt kinda like a fake rock album. 'Your Pretty Face' is a good example. Don't waste my TIME with this
Not really my thing. Kind of straight forward, really annoying vocals. As other have said, I'm sure this would be a really fun live show back in the day, but on record it sounds not very good. I listened to the Bowie and Iggy mixes, which was interesting for sure, but didn't make me appreciate the music any more. I don't think I'll have any songs to bookmark from this album.
i didnt like the vocals but other than that it was relatively easy to listen to
Just not for me. Nothing hooked me no songs in what I would call high quality but nothing drastically bad.
