5/5 Yeah, this is stunning

Tastes like good wine. A very satisfying album experience. Fave Tracks: Shine On (all the parts), Wish You Were Here 4.5/5

Excellent

One of the greatest Album of all time and my personal favourite.

Sparse but filled with emotion. Zero filler songs. This album says what it needs to say and that's it.

So good. Not their best but pretty close.

Thus took me back to high school and a friend back then that sat me down to listen the album start tk finish in its entirety. That is truly how it is best experienced although a song like Wish You Were Here does stand in its own. This album deserves a five just for Punk Floyd having the vision, the concept.

10/10 Probably the best album of all time Favourite Song=Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 1-5 Least Favourite Song=None

This is just really good. I’m too lazy to elaborate but it’s really good.

One of the greatest albums of all time and in my opinion the best Pink Floyd album. Its just a musical masterpiece

triggers bittersweet memories, possibly the coolest album cover of all time keeping mum's vinyl copy

One of the greatest albums ever. Huge, sweeping, yet also intimate. There I nothing I don’t like about this album.

Splendid

Amazing complete album

It's good innit. It's not my favourite Floyd album but it's certainly got its charms! Nothing quite like being at work listening to "Welcome to the Machine" though... 😬

How do you follow up one of the biggest albums of all time and your possible creative and artistic peak? By doing it again obviously. Feelings of guilt by ditching the acid casualty and becoming obscenely rich forced the band to stretch out and get back to doing their more lengthy prog numbers. Some may feel that this album isn't as accessible as the previous number but that's part of its charm. This used to be my favourite Pink Floyd album. It still is, but it used to be too. Best Tracks: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 1-5); Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 6-9); Wish You Were Here

come on, not a single skippable song.

Tough to follow up the greatest album of all time, but a worthy effort. Still a great album.

A great album... Every song is a classic. Pink Floyd at their most heartfelt, with great lyrics throughout. And maybe the best album cover in rock music.

This has always been one of my favorite Floyd albums despite some songs being long and the album only being five songs. It is solid in each song.

They are up there for one of the best bands of all time. They are one of the only bands that is good at having 7+ minutes songs on an album and it’s still enjoyable and impressive given nowadays a typical song is at most 5 minutes but slightly above 2 minutes

Monumentalny album. Mocne inklinacje bluesowe (gitara w pierwszych utworach), jazzowe (saksofon) a nawet funkowe (późniejsza gitara), lirycznie i wokalnie czerpie z Beatlesów pełnymi garściami. A mimo to brzmi zupełnie świeżo i nowatorsko.

pink floyd você sempre será famoso!!!!! wish you were here primeira música do mundo!!!!

I bought this in 1980, I've loved it ever since.

11/18/24. Amazing album, just beautiful songs and flows like water. Can always revisit this one anytime for any mood.

Absolutely incredible from start to finish. A classic

I love it. And the obligatory joke is everyone that haven't listened to this album.

Another album where it's impossible to do it justice in words. There's so much detail here. Sonically, it's almost perfect for me. The guitar, bass and drums all sound great but it's the keyboards that often take center stage. Especially in the spacey first part of Shine On You Crazy Diamond and the dystopian sounding Welcome to the Machine. The soloing is bluesy, especially obvious in Have a Cigar. The title track is the highlight. Beautiful lyrics. Acoustic guitar and piano building to a crescendo. There's no big solo, just a fade out and windswept segue into the last track. The second half of Shine On is darker, brooding. It's a masterclass in creating atmosphere.

Oh Wish You Were Here. I used to make out with an old boyfriend to this album (his pick not mine), which after listening to it again was probably an odd choice 🤔 But the feelings remain. David Gilmour has the voice of an angel, doesn’t he 🥹 and the title track Wish You Were Here is just perfect. Have a Cigar is my second favorite. Listening to this album all these years later, it did feel a bit monotonous at times (10+ minute long songs are typically an automatic no for me), but the album is still absolutely magnificent. I think I’d prefer listening to it with someone though, instead of alone. I feel like it’s a real hang out and shoot the breeze kinda album, more so than a make out one. But it was certainly a nice trip down memory lane.

An incredible album from top to bottom. Might be my favorite Pink Floyd album - the soundscapes they managed to put together put me in a peaceful place. Melancholy and beautiful.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-V) - A+ Welcome To The Machine - neat almost prog song with nice keys and effects Have A Cigar - Also has cool keys Wish You Were Here - A++ Shine On You Crazy Diamond (VI-IX) - Pretty funky. Nice continuation of the first song. This album was much more prog than I was expecting even though I've heard half of it before. Near perfect album, especially for the time.

come on. Let's get real pretty please.

really it doesn't take a genius to see why pink floyd's works are on here; these symphonic and progressive masterpieces will stand the tests of time. every single track is an experience that nobody will forget. songs of loss, the music industry, and spacey rock movements span this record. it's impressive.

The song(s) Shine on You Crazy Diamond are some of the best composed and atmospheric rock songs to-date. The song Wish You Were Here is beautiful in its simplicity. Have a Cigar and welcome to the machine are about 3/5 for me. Considered as a whole, while this isn't their most seamless listening experience, a damn good album. 4.5/5 -> 5/5.

Love this album. I enjoy it even more as I’ve gotten older. David Gilmour just ripping that strat. So good.

This is healing the soul

Sonic masterpiece.

Easy 5. Can't wait to listen again

sorry to everyone who knows an unbearable person with a poster of this album on the wall. but this shit slaps.

A+ listen. I think I have zero negative criticisms.. I think some of these bands over time get so hyped that you end up only hearing negative shit - its not interesting to say Pink Floyd rules... But they do! Of course I know these songs, but i can't say I've listened to the album front to back, maybe since I was a kid. It really creates a world that is both dystopian and cold but for some reason you want to stay longer. The structure is tremendous as well, bookending with Shine On... Iconic album cover. Just noticed Welcome to Machine has no drums! Props to Pink Floyd for making the music they wanted to. Fucking sick album!

Not Floyds best or even second best… maybe not even the third best… these guys truly knew how to make album pieces Everyone knows the middle of the album. The shine on you crazy diamond segments are super under appreciated in my opinion. Loved the sax SOLOS at the end of parts 1-5. Baritone to Tenor sax? Wish You Were Here is potentially pink floyds best individual song ever written. Beautiful lyrics and simple instrumentation with that patented synth sound. Ive heard that track 1000s of times - mostly amateurs learning their first guitar solo (myself included)

This is some indulgent classic rock I can get on board with. Shine on you Crazy Diamond is so, so fucking long, but I love the buildup and the atmosphere. I heard this song for the first time in a gem store in Evanston, Illinois (I have no idea why I was there) and was captivated listening to this long buildup while I looked at sparkling gems. Thinking back, I wonder if they only played gem-themed music there (or if they think of all hard rock as on-theme...). I had never like the Pink Floyd I'd heard before that (Dark Side of the Moon didn't grip me the way it got other people), but after hearing that track I put on this album and it clicked. Wish You Were Here is beautiful too. I really like this album.

A phenomenal, sentimental work. My first listen to Pink Floyd and what a stellar introduction to the band it was.

Espectacular!!! Lo escucharía por primera vez hace 30 años y sigue sonando igual de bien. Todas y cada una de las canciones son espectaculares y el sonido es de otra galaxia.

Underrated hidden gem

Perfection

5 stars

idk what was happening when i put this album on yesterday but i really connected with it lol. i had just gotten my flu shot a few hours before so maybe that was kicking in? I've never really been a pink floyd fan and i hadn't heard any of these songs beforehand but this was good enough for me to listen to it 2-3 times. definitely will revisit these tracks in the future. favorites: all of them, particularly welcome to the machine and wish you were here

I mean, it's a timeless masterpiece! Monster hits every single track (Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar, and Wish You Were Here) Some of the best and most popular progressive rock music ever written. No complaints, only positive thoughts for this one. 5⭐️

Love it and def going to listen to it again!!

On kyllä älyttömän kova. Ambient hetket vie kyllä johonkin ihan muualle ja David Gilmourin soolot on viimeisen päälle suklaata. Wish You Were Here on se helmi tietenkin.

I can't rank all of Pink Floyd albums in quality. but this is amazing. Probably Wish you were here is one of the most overrated songs of their work, even though it's way over the top in the whole industry.

I mean this has to be one of the greatest 5 track albums ever right? You got an insane 13 minute intro which they shredded then you end the album with another incredible 12 minute song. Then you got a classic record and the two “filler” songs are damn incredible as well. Plus the album cover is five stars on its own. Kudos to them!

This gave me an immediate Shine when it came up. Immediately transports me back to listening to Dad’s records On his stereo in our first house. You remember little shards of music from your youth. It’s Crazy how then listening as an adult, it all fits together as a mixture of memories and new discoveries - I found myself flipping it over and listening twice in one sitting. A true Diamond of an album.

Rating this one wasn't hard.

Hats off to Roy Harper, I'd like to have a cigar with him.

Epic space funk This album changed my life!! Shine on You crazy Diamond

Probably one of the greatest albums of all time, it’s a shame PF’s best albums are so good that you can’t put them all in the top 5 of all time, but you really really want to. But this one out of all of them makes it in for sure.

Definitely a GOAT contender 4.6 stars

One of the greatest by one of the greatest

I've loved this ever since a friend of mine wrote it in the sand.

wow no notes just vibes

Excellent

Masterpiece. Always gives me chill listening to it. Back when I was starting school and was listening to this on the bus ride to the school, I was so hooked, almost missed my stop.

A piece of prog rock perfection. Doesn’t overstay it’s welcome - works as background and foreground music.

If this isn't a 5 I don't know what would be.

As mentioned in yesterday's review this is one of my absolute favorite albums. Didn't listen to it yesterday, will this evening with a nice drink and will thoroughly enjoy it.

Huh. Pink Floyd achieved melodic perfection for an entire album. Their other albums have been mid with one to two songs that transcend, so I did not see this coming. Five stars I guess.

Nearly perfect. I love the mood listening to this puts me in.

It make me cry, it's perfection from start to finish. It's impossible to tell the best song, even the best album of pink floyd. But this is a masterpiece I could listen to for the rest of my life.

One of the top albums in my opinion. .

Dreamy, groovy, beautiful. This feels like a movie soundtrack because of how seamless it flows together. Minimal vocals and the instrumentation carries this record, but even when there are vocals, it adds as a fitting layer to an already harmonic and melodic piece. Yes, Pink Floyd is revered, but I had never listened to this record in its entirety before today, and I'm happy I did at some point in my life.

My favorite Pink Floyd album, it’s the one I’ll put on first (never the wall or dark side). Love the guitar work here too

masterpiece

Awesome

I wish I were there too

Imagine being a band with 5 or 6 legitimate masterpieces in your repertoire

Might be my favorite album from start to finish, but this is only my 3rd day hear, so hopefully there are more favorites to come!

Classic album.

Það fyrsta sem ég hugsaði var epískt en varð svo hræddur um að platan myndi missa flugið og ég yrði þreyttur á henni. Það gerðist aldrei og ég nau plötunnar allan tímann og langar að hlusta á hana aftur við fyrsta tækifæri

shine like a diamond

This album is SO GOOO, going into permanent rotation!

Probably the best collection of songs about the music industry and the toll it takes on artists.

There is nothing that hasn’t been said about this masterpiece so I will just add in a personal anecdote — i’ll add that I cherish the rides over to the cabin or night hike drives where this was a new, exciting, fascinating album. The vast expanse of Shine On juxtaposed with the stripped rawness of Wish You Were here captivated our attention and soundtracked our good times. For that, I am forever thankful.

Amazing

Fucking amazing album

One hundred percent. Absolutely deserves to be on this list and is an essential album.

DON'T EVEN NEED TO LISTEN LOVE LOVE LOVE

One of my favorite albums and one of the greatest albums ever made. Probably their best? Dark Side is close but I find myself leaning this just a bit most times. An essential listen for any music fan.

Only drawback for me is the reprise of Shine On (gets a bit w**nky with all of Gilmour's soloing). Other than that, excellent.

There are probably not many albums that have had as much discussion, dissection and dialogue as this. I'm not going to try and out-review anything that's come before, but I will say that this is, genuinely, an exceptionally good album. I've been familiar with the album art since the re-mastered CD re-release in 1994, but this might be the first time I've noticed the burn-out in the top right, which is genius in more ways than I care to talk about here. Onto the music. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is indulgent in a way that only prog rock from the 1970s can be. Indulgent it is. Sumptuously so. At 13½ minutes long, it can't be described as anything other than "long" - but what glorious minutes they are. One stupours in it. Not many tracks are as dissociative. In one way or another, it takes up most of this whole album. Welcome to the Machine is pleasingly, well, mechanical. It follows some of the themes present in Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall, though very much fails to do so as well as either of those others. Have a Cigar noodles along capably, with soaring guitars that never really seem to reach a destination. Wish You Were Here asks the most important question - you think you can tell heaven from hell? Well, I thought I might have been able to, but now I'm not quite so sure. It is the title track of the album for a reason. It fits best with the sleeve art, for sure. Given Pink Floyd's massive success, it really does tell how much the ideas of missed connections, lost opportunities and the melancholia of ageing resonate with music lovers. All that hyperbolic guff out of the way - onto the negative aspects of the album. The synths are dated. I've no idea what they could be replaced with, but it's so inextricably tied to the mid-70s that it's almost all you can focus on as they squeal away. And that's a bit sad. It's also not Floyd's best work. That has to be Dark Side of the Moon. But claiming that an album is "bad" because it's not the best example is ludicrous. It isn't a bad album - I'd even go as far as to say that it's a magnificent album. But every time I listen to it, I always kind of think to myself "Perhaps I should put on Dark Side instead?" and that's an odd thing to think.

Great.

Solid album start to finish.

Yeah... Perfect album. I don't think there is a bad thing in here. The story behind the recording, the cover. All clicks.

Short but sweet

Oh, please. Twist my arm and make me listen to one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded one more time. I mean, it's frickin' Wish You Were Here -- it's basically a perfect album from start to finish, can be enjoyed in any state, and has some of the best guitar work ever rendered to vinyl. Pink Floyd's run through the 70's is pretty much unmatched by anyone except maybe the Stones or Radiohead.

this could potentially be my favourite floyd album, it was dark side of the moon but this was amazing, the 8 minute guitar introduction and then those stellar vocals on the first 5 parts of shine on you crazy diamond was insane, welcome to the machine was an intense second track to get into with a really interesting instrumental, very eerie in some aspects, have a cigar grew on me, really groovy song, really enjoyable, with you were here is one of the best songs of all time, it all makes sense on that song, and the outro is enough to blow anyone away, i love how the intro and outro are tied together. amazing album, nearly perfect, a benchmark in history.

Best album ever

How do you follow Darkside of the moon? With Wish you were here. Another perfect/near perfect Floyd offering. Waters continuing to steer the Floyd machine through a critique of the music business sandwiched by fond memorium to fallen comrade Syd in the songs Shine & wish you were here. Even the cover art is a joy to behold, I fondly remember mine coming with 2 postcards of Stigg’s artwork. A rightly regarded classic.

Absolutely sublime

Incredible prog album.

Any album with the balls to start with a 10+ minute song is a 5 from me.

Wonderful homage to Syd Barret. Amazing record, as good as DSOTM

The second album I’ve gotten that I have on vinyl. Albums just don’t get better than this one unfortunately🤷‍♂️

# Playlist track - Wish you were here # Notes - The weird thing about this album is that it's only 5 tracks long. Each track ebbs and flows in all kinds of interesting directions. - There are long solos and weird explorations, yes. - But they just work together. One moment melts into the next and you never feel stuck or waiting for something to happen. - And, of course, there is the title track, which is just the perfect amount of trippy, sad, and emotional. - Definitely worth listening at least once in your life! 5 stars!

I have heard all of these songs at some point, but I didn't realise until today that I've never listened to the whole album. Why I haven't is hard to say, because this is an amazing album despite all the people saying its an amazing album.

Yes, it's true. I'm taking psychedelics while l'm listening to Wish You Were Here. It just happened to be my album of the day, and... INCREDIBLE. 10/10 experience. Very much would recommend. It was a low dose, so plenty of werewithal left to write a review.. no tangerine trees here. What I love about this album is its drama. I love that it's just this long-playing film, leading to these soaring highs, biting lines. It's really a play. But it's also the Perfect 70's Prog Album. All the lovely sound effects, Prophet synth leads, gorgeous guitar drama. It's all there. Really a compelling piece of art. I think I liked this album the way people like Dark Side of the Moon. For my money, this album does what people say Dark Side has on the tin. 5/5

how am i NOT giving this a five???

Was I just complaining about bad graphic design? Feeling much better now. Nothing on the cover of this album indicates who it is, what it's called, nothing. Just two suits. Wild but the PERFECT image for the music. Peak Hipgnosis and peak Pink Floyd. Peak album era. The imagery enhances the music and provides an entry into whatever world this is. The music has you doing a double-take back to the cover. Many levels of genius here. The album's pretty good, too.

I knew dark side of the moon and The Wall….I knew a little of this album. This is an excellent album and as I listened to it, I totally get why it is on this list. They had a sound that you could just keep listening to.

Some people say this is one of the greatest album ever recorded and all other who dont think that are just plain wrong.

One of their best. Great album!

I love this so much. Crazy Diamond is just perfect and beautiful. The whole album is a work of art and makes me cry. Pink Floyd is timeless, and there is really nobody else like them.

Poco se puede añadir. ¿El mejor álbum de Pink Floyd? En mi opinión no, pero se queda muy cerca.

Love this album. one of their best I think

I watched Polyphonic's videos about this album on youtube and they were great, and also amazingly done. I've heard this album tons of times before, but it was a good way to find new things to enjoy about it

One of the best album of all time. I think it’s the first place in my list of favourite albums.

This is my third Pink Floyd album, and I think I finally get it.

Phenomenal display of prog-rock from one of the greatest bands of all time. Monstrous, powerful tracks enveloped by the masterpiece that is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", it is a testament to the genius of Pink Floyd that this is somehow only their 3rd greatest album to me

5 - this isn’t my favorite of their stuff, but it’s an easy 5. I’d never listened to this whole thing, but surprised me how much more abstract it was than I thought

Masterpiece, need I say more. Every song is fantastic Shine On You Crazy Diamond book ends the album beautifully, Have A Cigar & Welcome To The Machine take dogs at the music industry and the title track is one of the bands greatest songs (and my 11 year olds favourite Floyd song). What a run they went on Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall & The Final Cut (My personal favourite) before it all imploded but by his what a band they were.

Pink Floyd is probably my favorite band. If it's not, it's one of them. And absolutely everything that appears from them here on this site (at least between 1970 and 1994) will receive automatic 5 stars. Anyway, there's nothing I can say without sounding like a crazy fanboy. So I'm going to shut my mouth and give silent thanks that today's album is Wish You Were Here!

Quite good

vuosi sitten olisi niin viestitelty tästä... ''look at album look at album...'' innokkaana... kyltynyt kaveri...

I can't believe I made it 1/4 of the way through this list without any Pink Floyd, but I am happy to start with what might as well be my favorite album from them. All 5 songs are basically perfect. -SOYCD 1: I love the opening guitar solo, it is one of my all time favorites. I love the build up to when the vocals come in. And those 4 notes are so cool. Also love the beat switch at the end. WTTM: I love how cold and industrial this song is. I also really like the melody of the chorus, it is fun to sing along too. Have A Cigar: Really one of the only "funky" Pink Floyd songs I can think of, really great vocal melody too. I love to sing the gravy train line. Checkout Primus' version of this song if you like their sound. WYWH: It's Wish You Were Here. SOYCD 2: I love the lap guitar and all of the shrieking high notes it hits. I don't think this song is as good as the first one, but it is a good book end to the album and has great moments. 5/5

A haunting and beautiful album. Got me through some very hard times in a long-distance relationship. Masterful composition, provoking lyrics and imagery. One of the best and most complete albums ever produced.

This is one of those albums I’ve heard so many times, I’ve lost count. I was definitely raised on Wish You Were Here. One thing I didn’t realize until later on, though, is that “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” was actually a tribute to Syd Barrett.

Literally every time I listen to this album, there’s at least two or three moments I wonder if I’ll ever contrive something even remotely as perfect as a particular lyric or guitar line. These guys made a whole album that perfect.

Awesome as always, there's nothing I can say about these guys that hasn't already been said, they just make great music lol. Helps that I listened to it religiously at 13

Grew up listening to this

Easy 5 star for me being a Pink Floyd fan. It's great album to disconnect from the screen and just listen too.

A great record with outstanding lyrics that is a total sonic experience.

I never think I'm a big Pink Floyd fan, but anytime I listen to a few of their albums, this one included, I start wondering why I don't consider myself a big Pink Floyd fan. Maybe I am. This album is great, includes probably my favorite Pink Floyd Song (the title song.) The bookends do get very close to becoming tedious, but they ultimately work and work well with this album.

a perfect album

Great excuse to listen to shine on you crazy diamond fully. God it’s so good. One of the best long songs ever. Great album also 9/10

Brilliant

Shine On Part I Wish you were here

5/5 The album begins patiently with the massive, fantastic Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Part 1 is so atmospheric and beautiful, drawing you in. Then those four notes introduce part 2, and the song is truly underway and grooving. Already two lengthy Gilmour solos in and you want more. Wright shows his feel on Part 3, with the simplest but most elegant of synth solos, before Gilmour decides, guess what, it's time for a guitar solo. And who could blame him? It sounds great. Then the vocals come in so smooth and full of life, complimented beautifully by guitar licks. As Waters does so well, the lyrics say so much with short, simple wordplay. Part 4 is just a couple of minutes but impacts so hard. Then Part 5 runs away with this energy, with the guitar arpeggios and two fantastic sax solos, before Shine On fades away, never to be seen again (until 20 minutes later). Suddenly Welcome To The Machine is playing and slapping hard, with the repetitive synth. So many sounds come together behind Gilmour to create a world of anxiety and disorder. Guitars lead the way but the synths cut through to give the track a disorientating, uncertain tone, which I just love. The vocals and lyrics are fantastic, but with Pink Floyd at this time that is almost a given. The synth solo that closes the track is so evil and sinister it rips right through you. Suddenly it cuts out, and we hear a party, really adding to the world this whole album as an experience creates. Turn over. Oh shit we're really grooving now. But still the synth cuts through beautifully and perhaps troublingly. Harper is just fantastic, and really puts down the humour of the song so well. Another great guitar solo pulls us away. I can't really describe the feeling I get when I hear the little radio sound effect at the start of Wish You Were Here. Just a comforting, exciting, sad feeling. Each element of this song is perfect. I could say why but that would take me a lot longer than the 5 minute runtime. Just legendary. Whistling winds. We're back where we started, and so quickly too. Part 6 makes me feel sad and angry, it's full of emotion, and I never want it to end, with the pulsating bass and attacking guitars supported by the magnificent synth additions. It goes from musically calm to screaming in not much time at all. Then part 7, and Waters' brilliance is once again showcased, for the album to really come full circle. Those addictive guitar arpeggios kick in before a funky section for part 8. It feels like a victory lap at this point, and it sounds amazing. Wright's fingertips are all over it and the majestic part 9, which is just beautiful. Finishing with a final flourish full of colour and life. While a lot of this album feels negative and set in the past, this final section is full of hope for me. In summary, this album feels like it could be twice as long, and that's why it's the perfect length. Each track, each section, leaves you wanting more, wanting to dive back to the start, and yet you must continue on the ride because they are so much more together. Much like the members of Pink Floyd. Waters' lyricism, Gilmour's musicianship and Wright's creativity come together, I think, the most balanced and the best of the band's catalogue on this album. Shoutout to Mason as well for doing exactly what he should throughout, giving it just what it needed for percussion. Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts 1-5 5/5 Welcome To The Machine 5/5 Have A Cigar 5/5 (LEAST FAV) Wish You Were Here 5/5 (FAV) Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts 6-9 5/5

Two Pink Flores albums in one week! I must be living right. I’d kill to see this band live.

First time listening to a Pink Floyd album. What an awesome and rich album. The melodies, the layers, the lyrics, just great. I loved the Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts. I thought it was completely justified and cool that it was split up, and you can tell when the parts transition between each other. The entire album stands out.

Pink Floyd's best.

beautiful iconic album, no way this gets less than 5 stars!

Probably the best Pink Floyd album after DSOTM.

One of the all time greats.

Чистый кайф

- Absolutely one of the best Pink Floyd records. Tight, imaginative, atmospheric, reverent, dark and beautiful. -

Loved it

Masterpiece

Certified classic.

A masterfully atmospheric proggy/arty rock album. These guys are truly greater than the sums of their parts (which are all great in their own right. Wright really shines with his synths here, making beautiful soundscapes that fit the songs perfectly. Mason is restrained and calculated with his drums - never flashy, but always playing exactly what’s required without an extra hit. Waters plays bass similarly. Gilmour has the perfect tone with soaring leads that sound brilliant without relying on speed or tricks - just smooth proficient playing. Shine On Your Crazy Diamond(s) are the perfect book ends, while the middle is filled with electronics, kinda funky rock, and an all time classic tender song. In competition for Floyd’s best and an all around wonderful album.

Rating: 10/10 A beautiful masterpiece, Pink Floyd's best work and one of the greatest albums of all time. Every song is perfect except for Welcome to the Machine, which is still amazing. Not much else needs to be said.

Great band, genre and album!

Their best album

ZOOOOWEEEEEE LA DÉPRIME N'A JAMAIS AUSSI BIEN ÉTÉ MIXÉE!!!

Classic. Mandatory listening.

Honestly, I wasn't a big fan of Pinkies back then. I remembered them as the guys who made a creepy movie (aka 'The Wall') and played a really strange music, though 'Money' were considered cool even then. And so, time skipping 10 or so years later, when I've heard 'Wish You Were Here' for the first time truly by accident -- this song spoke to me. Maybe because of its simplicity, maybe because of a sincere lyric, but it was a beginning of my reintroduction to the band. Also, should I say that I prefer that album over literally universally acclaimed 'The Dark Side of the Moon'? C'mon, 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' is the greatest prog rock tracks in music history. Maybe only 'Meddle' is my second favourite.

I mean it’s just be disingenuous to not give a 5 to this.

I’ve never actually listened to Pink Floyd before this. It is practically instrumentally perfect. The arrangements and performance are incredible. The lyrics left me wanting in spots and weren’t as cohesive as I’d like.

One of the all-time greats! Absolutely love this album, especially the guitar work on the title track.

5 stars all day, every day

I cannot say one bad thing about this album. Although probably my second favourite Floyd album behind Meddle it’s still in my top ten greatest albums. The album was released at peak Prog time when I was at my most receptive to a complex concept album different to anything else and pushing the Prog boundaries further. I bought the album on release day and still have it intact together with the black shrink wrap cover, round banner sticker and postcards. My copy is worth a bomb now but will never sell it as it means so much and part of my life. The album does remind me of the emotional turmoil I was suffering at the time. This album and others helped me through that. The eight minute plus instrumental start of Shine On You Crazy Diamond in particular takes me back to that dark time. Played endlessly it’s one of just a few pieces of music where I can identify and anticipate every single chord, guitar pluck, ambient background and every thing else which makes up that track. Another reviewer on here said that this album was one his uncle would play at the end of a barbecue to get deep about his divorce. I assume this was not meant as a compliment but I do understand where the reviewer is coming from. But I do warn the reviewer that in time he/she will have a piece of music to hold onto and only then will he/she realise what a beautiful thing that is and the enrichment music gives your life. This album for me is a top example of this. 5+/5 14/7/24

Top 5 favorite albums

A classic

Wish You Were Here is the ninth studio album from Pink Floyd, and this was the follow up to their most successful album, Dark Side of the Moon. As such, Wish You Were Here was not favorable received at the time. Consensus opinion has changed considerably in the intervening years. This album is Roger Water's tribute to founding band member Syd Barret, and is Pink Floyd at their best: blues inspired guitar in electronic soundscapes. Water's existential bent as a songwriter give the songs eternal appeal.

Masterpiece.

Love it love it love it. Classic.

One of the best albums ever.

Precis som The dark side of the moon är detta också ett mästerverk, till och med snäppet bättre.

Great album!!

i will never get tired of the title track

An all-time favorite I slightly ruined for myself by overplaying it as a teenager obsessed with David Gilmour. He is absolutely thrilling on this album. There's nothing pyrotechnic or as singularly epic as the Comfortably Numb solo, but his phrasing, that compressed strat tone, the fuzz sustain, the control in his vibrato, everything about it is just unbelievable. Those piercing but tenderly tentative first notes when he comes in on Shine On are set the mood for the entire album. This is a very strange album to be such a huge commercial hit: 5 tracks, two stretching out to nearly a quarter of an hour of meandering guitar, synth and sax, a very personal and loving tribute to a lost friend and original creative heart of the band blown up the maximalist scale of arena rock. The 70s were a wierd time. My favorite PF is the Echoes/Ummagumma era of long explortatory psychadelia, but this album (and Animals, which I maybe slightly prefer) have a nice dose of that but with added high-budget studio recording polish and a more composed prog rock feel. Try as they might, even 40 million buskers can't ruin Wish You Were Here.

I need to relisten someday to fully understand it.

It almost feels like I'm doing something wrong, continuously giving Pink Floyd album's five stars. I keep looking for moments or songs that don't hit as hard for me but they are few and far between. The connection I feel when listening to this music is unlike any other. Wish You Were Here explores the themes of absence, loss, disconnection and the longing feeling these emotions can bring. The album in general, including the first song "Shine on You crazy Diamond" (sometimes shortened to SYD) is a tribute to former Pink Floyd member and close friend of the band Syd Barrett, who was unceremoniously dismissed due to his erratic behavior, deteriorating mental health issues and drug addictions (particularly LSD). It explores the sadness they felt that he was no longer able to be a part of the group and the heartbreak of having to watch their friend go through the hardships he did. It is said that while they were recording the album, a heavier man with a shaved head and eyebrows and a "look in his eyes, like black holes in the sky" entered the studio. https://images.rapgenius.com/5d259d0a2c0cf99e61db1203ecf1b4b8.600x588x1.jpg Members of the band did not recognize that it was actually their close friend Syd, as his new look was a complete change from his normal, skinny and well put together appearance. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTosRT_mw2lq8FtGI8ijdtXBpMtVZKVsRSmxg&s "Welcome to the Machine" and "Have a Cigar" confront the music industry as a whole, explaining how it can strip away creativity and humanity. "Welcome to the Machine" is mechanical and cold, representing the alienation artists can feel from dealing with predatory record executives. While most of us don't have that experience, feeling like a cog in the machine is a universally understood sentiment. "Have a Cigar" sarcastically criticizes the industry's greed and lack of genuine passion, pointing out the absence of true artistry in favor of whatever will make the most money. And then there is "Wish You Were Here". While this song is another tribute to Syd and the sadness they felt from his absence, it also broadly speaks of the sadness and regret we all feel from missing someone. This song hurts me every time I listen to it, and it hurts me 'perfectly'. At the end, we tie the entire experience up with a bow by returning to "Shine...", continuing the previous sentiments. 5 Stars, A++++, Immaculate, Flawless Execution. How do they do it?

What can I say that Newell already hasn’t? I think I liked this one more than DSOTM!

Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. One of my favorite albums of all time. So much so that every time I’m asked to come up with a desert island disc list this one is one of my 3 absolutes. Ironically, this is one of only two bands that have two albums that I view as equally great in the competition for my island retreat. (DSOTM). There is no reasonable argument musically or culturally that Dark Side of The Moon isn’t the “better” of the two. But Wish just makes me FEEL something indescribable and deeply personal. Maybe it’s David Gilmores guitar tone. Or the saxophone in Shine on. Or the fact that Wish You Were Here is one of the first songs I learned to play. Or the “…… whoosh….” Transition from Machine to Wish. Or any number of hyper personal memories I have of this album- when and where I listened to it and how it affected me. This is what I mean when I talk about music and connection. This album is MINE. It’s mine, it’s an actual piece of me, of who I am and how I became me. I didn’t write it and even though it’s out there for all to hear and experience this is absolutely a record of the event if people playing music in a room and how they felt- and it has woven itself into the fabric of who I am as a person. Whenever i talk about music this album is playing in my head.

One of the best rock albums to exist

Short (?) and sweet. I'd listen to each and every song again and over.

A very tight, controlled album: all killer, no filler. It doesn't suffer from being bloated like other Pink Floyd albums and doesn't outstay its welcome. We really enjoyed this a lot: a cohesive, atmospheric, musically impressive piece.

Eines Meiner Lieblingsalben, psychodelisch, fesselnd...

Amazing stuff

Despite all the variously justified criticisms (over-hyped, bloated, self-indulgent prog rock) this still shines.

For no particular reason, I'd never listened to much Pink Floyd... Great to finally listen to this masterpiece! Shine On indeed!

Love Pink Floyd.

Like this one a lot

Pure magic

clássico demais

It's ethereal. It's good to listen to when you're just chilling or doing things.

Progressive rock, art rock. A perfect album. Another album I just get lost in, so melancholic and introspective. Can't say anything about it that hasn't been said. 5/5

I mean wow. To listen to this with the high quality surround mix was crazy. I think it might not be at DSOTM level but still insane. Shine on you crazy diamond is a top of all time song objectively

As the follow-up to the seminal 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish You Were Here" is more jazz-forward with a completely different feel than its predecessor. Although some songs here deal with the subject of mental illness, it is a more personal and introspective album. A lament to the band's old mate and friend who had succumbed to it. It is also a criticism of the music industry's approach to tailoring musicians to make money rather than follow their art. This was also the last album by the band before Roger Waters began to exert increasing control of the band's output. This is not to say that the band's next albums were a letdown over the previous records. Waters is a genius, even if he is a bit of an asshole. I find that I prefer the albums based on his concepts more than the previous material, as well as his solo material over the Gilmore-led Pink Floyd or the other band members' solo music. All that being said, I find each Floyd album to be a unique and enjoyable experience.

Superclassic Pink Floyd album - still sounds great and timeless, nothing further to add.

Pink Floyd at their best. Great album.

Love it.

Esse disco é uma pérola. Começa e termina com "Shine on you crazy". As outras três músicas são uma das mais incríveis que a banda produziu na década de 1970.

As far as intros to albums go, this is a 5000 out of 5. And as I mentionend a Pink Floyd moment in my "Dark Side of the Moon" review, here's another one: I had just stepped off my train one summer night, walking home, still on the platform and Pt.1 started playing, its soundwaves cruising through the dusk from somewhere far away. I stopped and listened. As you do.

Always will be one of my favorites. Have listed hundreds of times.

Entertaining. Like going to the theater.

My all time favorite album!

Masterpiece!

Absolutely great

What can I say? A true classic album up there with Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. Despite Shine on you crazy diamond taking up a good chunk of the album, it doesn't feel too long. And Wish you were here is a timeless classic. 5/5

This took a while to get going, but the song Wish You Were Here is an all time great and the music was enjoyable the whole way through

Good shit

when i went to italy my senior year of high school, a busker started playing wish you were here while my friends and i were wandering through the streets. it nearly brought me to tears, this universal feeling that i could hear a song my dad had played on his guitar for me as a child halfway across the world. i will always love pink floyd for finding me wherever i am.

Masterpiece.

Class, easy 5 stars

this album ends a run of absolute glory from Meddle in '71. the Wall came afterwards, but this is the end of 'peak Floyd 'for me.

One of my all-time favourites ....

Ohhh this is my music wow. So much imagination, story, relevance. I only listen to this on occasion because it’s like…watching a movie.

Emerica used Crazy Diamond on Heath Kirchart's retirement video part. It was perfect. I'm front row on the hype train for this album. Big jams. Feeling. Groove. Some funk. Dynamic. Lots of space. Crown jewel of 70s rock ✨💎✨

Desde la portada, hasta la última canción, se trata de un álbum excepcional. Shine on you es magnífica, Wish you were here ( a pesar del homenaje/plagio al Almost Independence Day de van Morrison) es exquisita. Have a cigar otra joya. Un imprescindible. 1975 es el año de discos como: Down by the Jetty de Dr. Feelgood, debut de Ac/Dc, Physical Graffiti de Led Zeppelin, Toys in the Attic de Aerosmith, That's the Way of the World de Earth, Wind and Fire, Young Americans de D. Bowie, Dressed to Kill de kiss, Rubycon de Tangerine Dream, ABBA de ABBA, Diamonds & Rust de Joan Baez, Zuma y Tonight's the Night de Neil Young, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy de Elton John, Main Coruse de Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band de KC and the Sunshine Band, Born to run de B. Springsteen, Love to Love You Baby de Donna Summer, Another Green World de Brian Eno, Ommadawn de Mike Oldfield, Radio-Activity de Kraftwerk, Horses de Patti Smith, A Night at the Opera de Queen, Crisis? What Crisis? de Supertramp, el directo de Bob Marley...

For me, this was always Pink Floyd's best album. I appreciate that that may be a controversial statement, given that 'Dark Side of the Moon' and 'The Wall' are so celebrated. But 'Wish You Were Here' always resonated with me in a different way. It adds a much needed emotional dimension and bleakness to their sonic experiments. There are reflections on their status within the music industry. And most powerfully, the 9 part opener/closer is a tribute to their former band member who had fallen from grace since his departure and was nearing the end of his short life by this time, as may have been evident by the rest of the band upon his final visits to the studio. Overall, it's powerful album, intended to be heard as a whole.

Not a ton to say, it's pink floyd at their best. It's more than an album, but an experience.

This is the first record I owned as a teenager. I don’t know how often I h e listened to it but I still like it and think it is brilliant.

Incredible. 5/5

Great album

Top 5 of my all time !!

Pink Floyd classic

This album is fire!

Grossartiges Album mit zeitlosen Songs.

Sublime. Takes me right back to my youth, which is always welcome.

Amazing Pink Floyd albun

Amazing

אין מה להוסיף. אלבום מופת.

One of the 3 greatest progressive rock albums and one of ever. The synthesizer from Richard Wright is my incredible how he used in the right moment and the right way. Was and is one of the albums of my life and the lyrics from roger talks about the industry cruelty and the heartache that he shows when talk about syd break my heart.

Such a good album. Brings back memories and reminds me how talented PF is.

One of the best albums of all time, probably. It's so good that I can't even explain it. Some of these songs have low-key Stevie Ray Vaughan vibes. I love it.

Best listened to through a good set of headphones.

Classic

This is the best Pink Floyd album. Yes, Dark Side is great. Animals is great. The Wall is great. Wish You Were Here is the bee's knees.

As usually, genius and grandiose. Smart harmonies and monumental compositions

Day 5 of listening to an album everyday. This is the most creative ever I have listen to in a while. The cohesiveness, to the instrumentation, the 12 minute long songs. The album impressively says so much without many lyrics. The song Shine On You Crazy Diamond being about their formally ousted band member Barrett. To the album talking about the music industry and how evil and corrupt it can be. This is one of the greatest albums I’ve have ever listened to and I am glad I got to hear it.

Timeless classic

Shine On You Crazy Diamond Welcome To The Machine Wish You Were Here

Shine on 95/100

ALL BANGERS (First time listen, was already a fan of the song ‘Wish you were Here’)

- this shit is so good - takes you on a sonic journey

Perfection. Pink Floyd understands how to take us on a journey fr

This album was where Pink Floyd finally “clicked” for me and started me on a deep dive into their entire discography. Incredible album front to back.

An amazing start and finish with Shine On You Crazy Diamond, "Have a Cigar" featuring some of Pink Floyd's best guitar playing, Welcome to the Machine's haunting instrumental and the title song's melancholy vibes, this is far from Pink Floyd's best album but still a masterpiece.

My favorite Pink Floyd album!

Con Welcome To The Machine e Have A Cigar inizia un crescendo che culmina con Wish Your Were Here, il cuore tematico ed emotivo dell’album. Il finale, poi, è soddisfacente, perfetto. Che cosa aggiungere di più? A mani basse, uno dei miei album preferiti di sempre.

So good!

This album is beautiful. This is my first time listening to anything by Pink Floyd, so let me just say that I now understand the hype. 10/10 Would I listen again? Absolutely.

A masterful follow up to 'Dark Side'

it's a 5 outa my love for humz <3

Top 10 all time

Top 5 dead or alive. Shine on is a magnum opus

Masterpiece! Best track is Wish You Were Here, but the rest are outstanding too 5/5

Takes a while to get into it but gets better as you listen.

Fantastic. Maybe my favorite Pink Floyd album.

Sublime album - is it the Floyd's best? It could well be.

A 70s classic!!! Have it on repeat

I loved this album since the first time I have heard, which was several decades ago. It has some of my favorite guitar on it and great lyrics. The lyrics were that more intense when I learned the backstory of the album and who it was they were wishing were here.

A scathing jab at the record industry and its' costs and a plaintive look at innocence lost, Wish You Were Here is an outstanding work of art. Any part of it can be taken in and enjoyed but to feel the full weight one has to listen to the album in its' entirety. I had listened to everything piecemeal and loved them all. One night while sitting alone in a car at night waiting, I had the radio on and was listening. The station was one that was on the outside fringes of reception and they while they played great stuff they were sometimes erratic with actually having music on. So when the radio went silent for a bit I almost turned it off. But I thought I heard something quiet in the distance so I turned it up. It was Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V) and it absolutely gutted me. If anything had been open I would have run to go get the album immediately. As it was I picked it up the next day and it has been one of my favorites ever since. Few albums convey such pain, anguish and longing in such a beautiful manner.

This gets real close to being perfect.

I only wish there was an option for 6 stars.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ No notes

A classic.

Great!

Phenomenal.

A true masterpiece that culminates in Wish You Were Here. I can see how some people might find the album slow at the start but it does not stay slow for long. Hard to find much fault or anything negative to say about this one.

Neuron activation.

It's almost worrying just how good Pink Floyd were for the run of albums that this was in. There were at least two more stone cold classics still to come and their last album was one of the best selling albums of all time. There's nothing overly complex about the music, but it's put together so well and I can't think of any other artist who comes close to this sound. Part of the journey I've been on with 1001 albums has led me a little closer to seeing what music influenced Pink Floyd, but they still stand out as being one of a kind in my opinion. For me, this is the Pink Floyd album I most liked to belt out when walking home drunk, either the title track, or Shine On. Some of the best lyrics I've ever heard. I love the way the entire band come together here to produce such an awesome album, the drums, keyboard, guitars, drums, all come together perfectly, nothing is over or understated. They even have Roy Harper as a guest singer for the icing on the cake.

5 star just terrific Shine On is probably their best overall song. Not my favorite, but best Such a loving tribute to an old friend. Listen to this one

Incredibile, miglior album dei Pink Floyd. Enigmatico ed elaborato senza toni eccessivamente pretenziosi.

Deserved-classic synthy 70s masterpiece . Lovely memories of listening to this on big headphones sat next to the record player as a kid, even though at that time i didn't get the themes of grief and sadness at the time, just enjoyed the stereo synth effects!

I knew all the songs but hadn't really listened to the whole album. It's a good as Dark Side of the Moon.

the best!

Ionic.

0 my favorite album by a band that has several masterpieces and aguably no bad ones

A legendary album from a legendary band. 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' is just the icing on the cake.

Jaaaaa

10/10 no notes absolutely flawless

A favourite of mine, the 5 track playlist always put me off when I was a teenager but I wanted it so badly for Wish You Were Here and Shine on. Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar are equally as good. It's as mesmerising as ever. An album everyone should own.

What to say? Top ten for me. Known it and loved it for 30 plus years, still blows me away. Better structured and more cohesive than most prog. The most amazing soaring lyrical guitar parts you could ever hope for. Dense studio soundscapes with ground breaking efffects. It's in a league of it's own. Does sound very 1970s and the lyrics are a bit schoolboy-ish. Deal with it, make this one your friend for life.

This is probably their best album outside of DSOTM. It may even be better once you've become a fan of the ban and understand that it was written based on some of the turmoil the band felt with Syd Barret leaving. It is also a perfect middle between Animals and DSTOM in terms of their more experimental prog roots and their acclaimed single fame (this album having at least one single with "Wish You Were Here" over Animals having none IMO). The wild group choruses, saxophone and tension all throughout "Shine on you Crazy Diamond." The darker/grittier tones of "Welcome to the Machine." The excellent chorus end on "Have a Cigar." The beauty/sorrow of "Wish You Were Here." And ending with the final parts of the opening song (with equal length) is a good capstone.

Stone cold classic

Beautifully orchestrated. Sonically pleasing. Compared to what else I’ve been listening to from that time they were pushing the boundaries by creating their own style and unique storytelling. This listening session I learned that your environment, mood and what you’re doing at the moment can dictate how you will perceive and also appreciate music.

Always loved <3

The only Pink Floyd album that all members of Pink Floyd could agree was kind of okay. Roger Waters might have been the creative force behind Wish You Were Here, but David Gilmour's guitar tone steals the show while Rick Wright's work behind the keys makes this one of the greatest, most cohesive, albums of all time.

I love reading old reviews of Wish You Were Here, as everyone seemed out of their minds and found it uninspiring, dull and insincere - only for them to later realize the magnitude of the record and praise it as one of the greatest album ever released.

It takes stones to lead your album with an 11 minute song (and then continue it on subsequent tracks).

Phenomenal. 4.6

Pink Floyd raised the greatest question in rock music (B-F-G-E?). Noone asnswered yet.

Incroyable, Masterpiece, ça m'a retourné le cerveau.
