Reviews (page 14 of 16)

Funny that music that seemed heavy and subversive in the 70s does not today. Except that whole bat thing... seems like a misguided idea in the wake of covid. A bit slow for me, but still like it a lot. High 3/low 4 Iron Man is overplayed War Pigs is great

Another eye roll album where I am happy to be proved wrong. Heavy. Bluesy. Dark lyrics. Melodic. 4/5. Maybe slightly higher because of how timeless and influential it feels.

Man, this is better than I remembered. The melodies are thick, heavy and robust, basically the beginnings of doom metal I think? Ozzy's voice is mildly annoying, but I think that's because I'm hearing him saying "Sharon, where are me keys Sharon?". The young Ozzy actually had a pretty good voice and it suits the music. I like the socio-political leaning lyrics. It's a good album. 4*

Classic metal... I enjoyed this for the most part. The title track is my favorite

Big hits with just a few misses. So good!

pretty good actually

Iron man really slows this whole thing down unfortunately

They'd benefit from not standing at the other end of a concrete hallway from the microphone. The tracks they are in the same room as the mic for are great.

What an album! Ozzy and the boys kill it here with 3 of their--and perhaps the genre's--most recognized songs occupying the A-side. Still undecided on "Planet Caravan", it works as an intermission of sorts between 3 face melting classics, but it also feels like a flat tire on an otherwise peerless record. Also, while I reserve the right to change my opinion, I currently love the camp album cover as there's nothing wrong with bringing some humour to a really self-serious genre. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5)

Has some bangers on it. Favourite has to be the title track. But there are a couple on here I can't really imagine listening to again, ie track 3.

The most famous black sabbath album, Iron Man, War Pigs, Paranoid are timeless bangers

un genio ozzy

Classics but a little bloated

enjoyed more than i thought i was going too

Was not happy when this came up as the first album on this. but nah this album is pretty incredible it deserves the legend status. They weren't just "The first heavy metal band", they created so many elements of it on this one album. The sparse heavy riffs, the quiet/loud dynamic, the sludgy riffs, "paranoids" very punk rocky, "Planet Caravan" is basically an Alice In Chains song lmao. Def some real shit here, better listen then I expected.

Great album, knew I liked it anyway. Really well composed and each song is fun and interesting in it's own right

Classic rock/metal album, really recommend listening to at least everything before fairies wear boots. I feel like there is probably a reason behind fairies wear boots being there, but without it I feel like it comes off a little pretentious -- "here, listen to the album again but slightly different..."

10/10 would recommend to a friend.... or would I?

Almost 5 stars just for iron man

Eyyyy it's the other good Brummie group. I think we've had all three of them now. This is a very good album, slower tempo but doesn't sacrifice intensity.

Solid Black sabath album. An album i would not mind listening to at another point.

An amazing fusion of guitar, drums, and voice. Album record in 1970, difficult to believe in it.

A classic, filled with classic hits.

ok now this is epic

A true example of an album before it’s time. So much heavy fuzzy distortion used to full effect in Iron Man & War Pigs for example. Doom metal is a genre used so much these days but this album is where it all started. 4 Stars!

- very fun - great for not heavy metal fans

Really enjoyed this good stuff. Needs another listen.

Classic tunes, melodic album which was a more theatrical than expected.

Great opening and enjoyable throughout

An Iconic album that lives up to the hype. Its very much classic rock rather than the metal that it sometimes gets shoehorned in with. Maybe tails off a little in the 2nd half but has some classic rock riffs throughout. 4/5

Discovered this only recently. Great.

Discazo, obvio.

Metal. Dos megahits.

I've never been a Black Sabbath fan, but when listening to this album I can understand the appeal. This is a pretty seminal recording of early heavy metal with some pretty kick ass tracks that stand up well 50 yrs later. I finally know what those metal heads were going on about now.

Classic Black Sabbath album, and Planet Caravan is pretty cool. Easily an 8/10, maybe more

A badass album, classic sabbath, all their hits.

It’s a good rock album, and I really enjoy these classic riffs. I am just not a fan of the overall songwriting.

It's hippy music, but it's classic hippy music.

Este si ya es cosa seria

A cool metal album!

this was amazing. high 4

Love sabbath

Classic

Pretty good, has some good classics like: War Pigs Paranoid

What a monster. Every track is a hit so far. Didn’t know all of these were from same album

Solid album, good ballads, coherent story. Weirdly reduces the paranoia.

Great album

Pretty good

Like Sabbath

Just the beginning of an era, awesome album

Great guitar! Some classic songs like Iron Man and Paranoid. The vocals match the vibe, normally would find this kind of singing a bit grating to the ears, but it really works.

Pretty good, I remember listening to this about 10 years ago and it was definitely unlike anything I had heard before. Listening to it again in 2021, it still holds up but doesn't really sit well with me since I'm not a huge metal fan.

Great follow up to S/T. More extremely influential music and better production. The bent notes alone on Iron man are better than 90% of the metal released after this.

WHERE’S THE REMOTE

Album med gang i den. Klassisk rock med mange fede numre. 4,5 stjerne.

Good angry music, reminded me of Jesus Christ Superstar. Also, I didn't realize that Iron Man was on this album!

Great album

Baita descoberta. Solos vibrantes e estonteantes. Começo maravilhoso.

Not a bad album. I wouldn't recommend for all occasions, but it's fascinating hearing the start of heavy metal.

Key songs: Paranoid, Iron Man, Planet Caravan, Electric Funeral

Actually enjoyed it

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would

otro 7/10, buenisimo pero pesado

Some part were a little plodding, but when this album hits, it HITS.

3 of the most definitive rock songs released (war pigs, paranoid, iron man) . Interesting songs like planet caravan follow. The best sabbath album. The others dont match up to this collection

Starts out with a couple great bangers, mixes into a song I would never have guessed was by Black Sabbath, and then songs I associate more with them/their style (that are a good example of why, while they do have some stuff I enjoy, I wouldn't necessarily say I like the band). Wouldn't listen to the full album again.

As a big metal fan I never felt connected with Black Sabbath (except maybe few Dio era albums). I mean everything is just too raw for me, especially drum tracks. When Iron man is on a radio I'd rather switch it to Johnny Hates Jazz. I cannot give it lower than 3 stars based on the influence this album had on the later metal acts I listen to

It’s a classic, for sure, and it’s interesting how fully it has been folded into the cultural mainstream fifty years later. Some of the lesser known songs are just mid, though.

I would have loved to hear Ozzy use his nasally voice to sing some Blink 182. This is a Black Sabbath album. i guess it's THE Black Sabbath album because it has Paranoid & Iron Man on it. I just find this band to be so goofy....

Not my favorite but I can recognize its place in music history. Very cool guitar work

Not my scene but I appreciate this is a good album of it's heavily metallic kind, he said generously.

TOO LONG.

It was cool to listen to such a classic in its entirety. I’ve heard snippets throughout the years, but it’s nice to hear them in context. That being said I don’t know if I would ever muster the internal motivation to relisten to this. It’s not exactly to my taste, though I do recognize it sounds great and has had a massive impact on culture. Iron Man basically sounds like a lullaby how recognizable the chorus is, but I would much sooner put on the Cardigan’s cover of Iron Man than the original.

a classic

Pretty good. Lot of metal and stuff ig.

War pigs was really really good. I honestly wouldn't listen to the rest of the album but in general it was nice that it wasn't too intense and that it had a stable message and vibe throughout.

Defined sound and style of heavy metal War pigs Paranoid Iron man

great album not my genre

Not my style but go off I guess

actually quite good, not your ‘average’ metal album

Pretty standard noises

Every track feels like a minute too long, but it’s still fun! Favourite track: Hand of Doom

Not my vibe but I understand its importance and respect it

i haven't listened to this in a minute, but it was a frequent teenage listening, as it was/is for many teen boys.

I forgot I like classic rock. That guitar and that cutting voice. Midwestern af to me.

A great band, very bluesy, just not my thing

Classic I didn’t like all of it but it was cool

It's a good album for working out or road trips. I liked a lot of the songs on the album

It's a progenitor heavy metal album with some classics on it.

Again with Sabbath I have to be in the mood, I get why people love it but it’s not my go to. Drumming is great and there are some great riffs but after a strong start on the first 3 tracks for me it gets a bit repetitive and some of the songs would benefit from being a little shorter. I also always feel like Planet Caravan is an obvious album closer and whilst it’s my favourite song on the album seems miss sequenced to my ear. They are the best at what they do bombastic drums, hard riffs, they did have a great influence on generations of metal bands to come…. I’m just not a metal head so can’t rate it as high as other surely will 3.2

Such a great song to start on.

Listened a little Very movie

Sludgy stoner classics with surprisingly jazzy drumming

Haha… Black Sabbath on the Sabbath! Funny how this album has become commonplace in modern society. (Even my better half was enjoying it.)

muy buen album, me gusto mucho recomiendo 100%

Angry and noisy

hot take but planet caravan is the best track on here

There's a reason only some of these songs are (over)played at sporting events and on the radio. Sure, this is incredibly influential, but overall just feels bland.

Notable Songzeile: Is he alive or dead? Has he thoughts within his head? We'll just pass him there Why should we even care? Vermutlcih was anderes ähnlich glorious sinnloses.

I enjoyed it. First half the album was fantastic, Electric Funeral is just awful and seemed to be the turning point of me not enjoying the album as much. I enjoyed the rest of the songs, they just weren't on par with the first half for me.

I think I knew that I was supposed to be impressed and that sort of skewed my listening experience. Was not overwhelmed but not quite underwhelmed either so just whelmed I guess.

Was good, not really my thing but it sounds cool, has some entertainment value. good production!

Funkier than I thought it would be. At lot less intense than I imagined

Listened a few times before. First half is amazing but second is a bit forgettable. Iron Man was apparently originally called Iron Bloke

Not as good as other Black Sabbath albums I’ve heard. The sludgey songs were harder to get though but can appreciate that it’s a decent album.

Surprisingly chill! Beste: Planet Caravan.

Not my gig but classic

Surprisingly great riffs and drums. I knew the hits, but for I guess I was expecting something heavier with the knowledge that this is a heavy metal album. No real standouts for me, but it wasn’t unpleasant to listen to.

Heavy metal's not really my thing, but who can argue with the brilliance of the title track, and for this alone it's worth a listen.

Lo escuché mientras iba caminando al garage

War Pigs, Iron Man, and Hand of Doom is really good. I liked Planet Caravan but not enough to want to put it on the Liked Songs playlist. Did not care for Rat Salad or Electric Funeral Never really dabbled with anything Ozzy related but this wasn't really as "jarring" (for the lack of a better term" as I thought it would be.

I don't think it's a complex album in musical terms, but it's still very good.

it was alright

I only listened a bit. I liked the instrumentals, but the vocals weren't my favorite.

War Pigs is the perfect intro! Lots of bangers.

Paranoid is one of those songs that I don't know by name or artist, but it was ingrained in my head. Iron Man too. It's clear this album was far ahead of it's time. Not sure I'd listen to this one again as it's not my kind of music, but I can appreciate the significance of it.

Could only find remastered album.

Didn't really enjoy it, if I'm being honest. I wouldn't put any of these tracks on my favorite list today. That said, I think its fascinating how many of the songs I recognized and had heard. Just not my cup of tea I suppose.

war pigs / luke's wall // boring. "true rock" (?) the only thing that was remotely interesting was the instrumental bridge. paranoid // the famous track, &4 gud reason2 ! planet caravan // reminds me of the doors ..nighttime mystery adventure i love this1. it's got the ambient dreamscape noises i think it might b my favorite track iron man // follows similarly to the first songs format but more enjoyable. has that stomp clap rhythm electric funeral // waa waa waaaaa this is like that one musical with the zydrate hand of doom // okay we got the progressive rock song rat salad // that did not sound like rat salad jack the ripper / fairies wear boot // ok

Love me some Ozzy vocals.

You're telling me 'War Pigs', 'Paranoid' and 'Iron Man' are all on the same album? Ok this rocks. Not to mention this album cover is all time.

The Black Sabbath you expected. One monster hit everyone knows and the rest in the same vein.

Electric guitar galore. Very 1970's energy. Could be good for a workout? "Paranoid" was great, but the rest lacked the coherence I like from this genre. Distracting.

Probably the best metal album I’ve gotten on this list so far - the parts of the genre I don’t like is when there’s no melody or hook but this album has that so I enjoyed it more for sure

Parts of this were so good and then also other songs happened.

War Pigs good Paranoid great Iron Man is no Smoke on the Water Of the original Big Three Metal Bands, Black Sabbath was always the weakest overall for me but also I admire their enduring legacy and this is a pretty good album. They lose me in psychedelica which I don’t think is their forte and instrumentally they’re nothing compared to Zeppelin but I had fun while it lasted. The drummer was annoying. Get a second move that isn’t 4-8 rapid hits on that drum. You’re no Bonham.

2/3. Never listened to much Sabbath, but I knew the big ones on this album, and genuinely enjoyed the rest. Some really cool guitar solos, a heavy, trippy, psychedelic metal sound, and great lyrics on War Pigs and Iron Man. Faeries Wear Boots scratches a prog itch for me too.

Tight and concise with an enjoyable variation of mellow to heavy

I enjoyed this! Unsure if this score is too harsh but i think a 3 is pretty good so eh Had some clunky lyrics and could be a bit on the nose and repetitive at times for my taste but also some great moments

rate: 6/10

This just isn’t for me, but I appreciate why people love it.

it was cool but not my kind of music. maybe i am not music nerd enough

I'd heard the singles but I had never listened to this album all the way through before. I was pleasantly surprised.

(4/7) A few good ones on here, but the second half feels like one loud, extended guitar solo

Pretty good but the pacing appears a bit slow from a contemporary perspective. Though the riffs make sitting through the long textless segments easier, they cannot erase the small moments of boredom they create. Solid anti-war songs but they lack a bit of creativity, which still doesn't detract from the beatiful images the text creates. Lacks cohesion though that strangely makes it more endearing. Bests songs are Paranoid and Hand of Doom. 6/10, good for long car rides and quiet evenings, wouldn't put it on with guests or as background.

This was good.

Highlights: War Pigs, Paranoid, Iron Man, Hand of Doom Lowlights: Planet Caravan, Rat Salad This is what I was expecting from a Sabbath album compared to their debut. Admittedly I am not a big metal guy. I have a couple songs I like over bands/albums. This was enjoyable for the most part, but its not the kind of metal I would go back to often.

I started this album expecting to hate it, but I actually really liked it! The first half was better than the second for me. Really appreciated the instruments, it was nice to hear them each come through with such good focus

Both expected and not expected Black Sabbath to sound like this. I am not the biggest fan of the singing style. I like the general sound, although seemingly too simple for me.

Went to the library with a friend in about grade 5 to try borrowing a record. He said you gotta get this one. Seemed evil and dangerous. I don't know if I ever listened to it, but it's better than what I've forgotten. Paranoid is a great track, Fairies wear boots stands out for side 2.

Possibly the beginning of heavy metal

Really great! They sound different to how I thought they would, a lot more ballads I really liked the vibe.

Lots of drums

NAO ME CHAMA DE PARANOICO Q EU FICO PARANOICO FAVS (top 3): paranoid, iron man, eletric funeral menoçoes honrosas: planet caravan, rat salad gente, legal, um metalzinho bem classico nota final: 3.5/5

Girl Talk All Day ruined the opening song lol. I enjoy and respect Black Sabbath for their music and how influential they were but gotta say it's not my favourite hard rock album to ever be

A classic, but very intense for my liking. Still, there’s very good instrumentation, musicality, and sound quality. I am not, however, a big fan of metal as it stresses me out.

maybe too rock-y for me, but i liked it anyways!!

I’m no metal fan but I still appreciated this one. It’s got such a heavy mood to it but there’s heaps of separation between the instruments which made me appreciate the drums and bass I think more than I would otherwise. Not likely to listen again just cos I’m not often in the mood for this vibe but I can definitely see why it’s so influential

Honestly better than I expected for a genre I don’t enjoy listening to.

Pretty good. The two standouts are the title track and “War Pigs.” Metal is not my favorite genre, but I sort of enjoyed it in parts.

Ozzy's isn't the greatest singer in the world but the rest of them make up for it!

Rockin classic

think I actually listened through this one when I listened to their debut. I like it well enough, I think I like their debut better! solid album though and would be so much fun to see live I’m sure.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath proves that some songs are popular for a reason, even if the album as a whole doesn’t always get talked about in full. Tracks like “Paranoid” and “Iron Man” have earned their legendary status, but I’m not sure about the album as a whole. My favs were “Planet Caravan” and “Electric Funeral”.

szczerze nic nie pamietam z niego, nudny i powtarzalny, moze kiedys przeslucham 2 raz i zrozumiem te wyswietlenia

Iron Man is fun and Paranoid is also good and I love the power guitar. But overall this just doesn't move me greatly

So to be clear, my ratings here are how much I ENJOYED the album, which includes, but goes beyond, how important, legendary it is. For me, Black Sabbath has always been insanely cool guitar riffs, openings, but I have a hard time sustaining the song. For example, the first two minutes of this album are maybe the sickest first two minutes of any album ever. But I find myself losing interest (mostly because of the vocals) as the song bleeds into minute 5, 6, 7 .... Iron Man is the same way. Undeniable legendary guitar riff. But then ... And the album is the same way.

Some bangers some very mid

RIP Ozzy!

ay so far roadhouse blues is making me think i won’t like this it’s too 50s/60s still -waiting for the sun has some cool instrumental moments -you make me feel real no thanks -blue sunday is fine maybe my fav so far -ship of fools is fine -okay i like the spy actually and its lowkey giving vecna especially in terms of will -okay indian summer is really good and making me byler emo like im depressed now

I give this album 6/10. I liked the music and the lyrics, but I prefer pop or alternative music, so I don’t really like metal music all that much. Out of all the songs, “Paranoid” was my favorite.

Rock and lovely details I love the older vibe

old slow rock and some rock beat 7.8/10

Listened to it at the gym and now my legs hurt. Good fun with spooky bits.

Najbardziej zapamiętałam (oprócz Iron Mana) 'War pigs' i 'Electric funeral'.

Classic metal band, one of the OG's. But this album isn't my vibe though. The songs were okay.

Listening to iron man inspired me to give this a slightly higher rating bc obvs it gave me flashbacks to the first movie Also brum legends - the album itself wasn’t for me but I liked the sound so maybe this genre is one to lookout for?

Not my type of music genre but I thought I would give it a go. At least was intrigued by the drums but as I continued listening to the rest I of the album, it got too weird for me.

Chilled and heavy. Excellent A side, B side a little weaker

A bit too hard rock

I dont know about this album, i’m not a big fan of metal or the lead vocalist’s voice in general. but i did like track 2

Really fun listen, that what suppose to be rock-'n'-roll. Very grounded and direct.

pretty good 5/10

ok but not me

not my cup of tea but plenty of classics.

This album wasn’t for me, but I can totally respect Ozzy as an artist and the band itself and how impactful it was for rock music.

Sadly just can't fully get into this sound. Saved a song: N RYM: Y (#18)

I'm sure this is great, but it's not really for me.

It was alright. Unremarkable though for my personal bird tastes.

A few songs are really good, like Paranoid, but the others are not to my taste

eh. it's fine

Good album. High highs with some forgettable songs.

6/10 - it's alright,. still an overrated band for me I didn't grow up with them

A cornerstone to rock music. Much respect. But just doesn’t hit for me like some other 70s music.

This is just not for me. I know this was a very important album at the time, but pretty much all the songs, even the most popular ones, are just too slow for my ears today to really get into.

Classic jam, fun listen 6.8/10

album cover is the last thing you see in birmingham before getting cheffed down by force

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. One of Birmingham's better exports

not the first example of, but certainly the big breakout for metal. seminal album but not my favorite in the style or by them deserves to be one of the 1001? yes!!!

Aaaaaaahzzzzzzzzeeeeeee! Almost laughable now that this sounded "threatening" back in the day.

Not my favorite. It's quite chill but still got a slight Rick vibe, it's too quiet and not really enough for me. I would recommend tho, but probably won't listen again

I know how significant this album was for heavy metal, the impact it had when it came out, and the place it deserves in music history. Yet, I can't help but default to the basics: This is not my type of music and I can't give it a full listen in one go. 3 stars.

According to Wikipedia, they are a rock band from Birmingham, England. One of the famous groups active since the 1960s, they were also considered pioneers of heavy metal and doom metal. They reportedly ceased activities in 2017, bringing their over 50-year history to a close after their final concert in 2025. I found their lyrics easy to understand and their music passionate yet lively.

3.75, couple a bangers but not enough to get a 4

Typ tre väldigt stora låtar, resten lite meh. Overall inte riktigt mitt sound än. Återigen coolt omslag

muitas músicas iconicas nesse, provavelmente o melhor do black sabbath! 3,5

not impressed, it’s mostly just the same riff over and over again. I do like Ozzy‘s voice. The supposed anti-war message is not very convincing.

Not bad.

*1970 *War Pigs is one of the best opening songs of any album. *Lots of War Pigs reprises. *Lyrics written by a 5 year old. *Fine, not memorable. RATING - 6/10

also better than i thought but not really sunday vibes.

Par album with some great tunes. Never really listened to too much Sabbath but I feel like this album gives you the best taste of what their sound is. Paranoid was my top hit for this one.

War Pigs is good Paranoid is better Love the trippy and relaxing sound to Planet Caravan - very unexpected for a metal band. "On 31 May 2020, "Planet Caravan" was used as wake-up music for the crew of a SpaceX Crew Dragon before the craft's launch later that day." Iron Man is ok Electric Funeral is also just ok - did think the words were 'radiation might be gay' first which was interesting to try to dissect before I looked them up! Hand of Doom - dull Rat Salad - very good, and really cool to have an-all instrumental track. Love the interplay between the guitar and drumming from 0:35-0:57 especially. Jack the Stripper - excellent name, first off. Great instrumental start, and really good in general. A good ending to the album! Who knew it was possible!

Don't like metal musics

Highlight was “Planet Caravan”

I didn’t want to listen to Ozzy but surprisingly I recognized a few songs and I must admit this group of musicians have talent! Loud! 3 or 4 hmmm

album cover rules. great songs, some real bangers with a couple turds thrown in 3/5

Classic.

Vet album.

That’s what I call a classic. Starts out as a 4. Will probably be a 3 eventually, despite the hits. Paranoid. Iron Man. Drops to a 3. Stays there. Good album. Not sure how it’s considered the beginning of heavy metal?

Fondateur mais a mal vieilli.

Recognize some hits from here, but I feel just as "eh" about this Black Sabbath album as the last one. A 3.

Too classic. Some songs I thought were boring, some songs I never heard before I want to listen to all the time. Weird how the classics are like this

There is some cool stuff on here, and I really respect the talent on display, but the reality is that I just don't like metal all that much! There's nothing really here for me. War Pigs is a great song but nothing else really stands out.

Really agonized over this because I know I should be raving over it. The only song on here I was really vibing with was Paranoid. I want to die admitting this but I think that Cake's version of Masters of War is better than this one. Kanye improved Iron Man by sampling it. This album left absolutely no impression on me and I couldn't even hum a single song from the B side if my life depended on it. The book compares what they did to Led Zeppelin, but the vocal is average and they have no craft in their lyrics.

First album is better..

I liked this a lot more than Vol. 4, mostly because the guitar riffs are so good! The lyrics feel pretty shallow and like they’re trying on purpose to be as edgy as possible but this was early hard rock so. But yeah better melodies and instrumentals. I wouldn’t mind hearing the majority of the songs again. 6.75/10

liked some songs!

Cover 7 Good album. No bad songs but only two Paranoid and Iron Man are repeats. Others are ok. Maybe OK+.

The musicianship and the craft that went into this record are exceptional but the subject matter and the tone of it leaves me cold.

I feel that these older albums just sound so hollow. But good tunes.

Muchos hitazos uno tras otro! Bendito seas Ozzy. Nota: 3.5

not my favorite album from black sabbath but i like the title track

Fav: Iron Man Least Fav: Rat Salad Surprised how much of this I already knew, but aside from that it’s a decent album that I appreciate more than their debut. Metal just isn’t really my thing ig

Hmm. There are some obvious killers on it, but overall BS never really made it for me. Don't know why.

This caught me off guard in the best way. There’s a lot going on here. Some of the transitions are janky as hell. But credit where it’s due, there’s some real musicianship buried under all that fuzz and doom. RIP Ozzy. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - War Pigs - Paranoid - Iron Man

Some classic songs here

A couple of cool songs, fine overall.

Really grooved with some of the guitar and drums. 3.25

Listened to this just a few days after Ozzy Osbourne died. Look, it's good at being what it is. That's just not my cup of tea.

My first album here was Black Sabbath and I really didn’t care for it, but this one is much better.

Actually pretty good. All standard fair, but good and then there was a nice slower breakdown at one point that was enjoyable High 3

Ok so it’s kind of lovely that we all got a Black Sabbath album the day after Ozzy died, legend, icon, raised a load of money for charity right at the end of his life, amazing. I literally knew two of their songs before I listened to this, I was really excited to hear this. And I’m sorry 😭😭😭I appreciate what this is and what it created that came after it and I can HEAR how it’s good, you know? But it’s just not…… really……. doing a lot for me while I listen to it? I think this is where this project is by its nature a bit flawed because this is how I feel TODAY but a lot of this could be to do with how I’m feeling on this particular day and idk maybe in another time in another headspace this would just click more, but you’re asking me to rate how I’m feeling about it TODAY, in THIS moment, and I can ONLY give it a rating today. And today I’ve got to give it a 3. Would I have written this paragraph if Ozzy hadn’t just died, probably not. Mortality eh. But it’s also maybe because I’ve just read all these other 5* reviews so I’m like… am I the problem? Maybe I am. And yeah I know you can edit ratings and reviews now but the unusually faffy convoluted process makes me think it’s not really in the spirit of this.

Much better than I expected! Not a genre I really like, nor a record that I’d put on to listen to with any purpose. But there’s no denying that some of these songs and solos are incredible.

METAL WAR PIGS

not as influential as the first Black Sabbath album, but truly fantastic

Great Sabbath!

Enjoyed it! Planning to explore Sabbath's discog more too. Didn't know how much I'd enjoy Black Sabbath - had only heard a couple of the main hits. RIP Ozzy. Definitely will dive into more Sabbath.

R.I.P Ozzy album clasico con canciones iconicas, me ha gustado

Can I give 3 + 1/2?

Arrives on a powerfully dark burst of guitar noise and unrelenting drumbeats, heralding a whole new genre of menacing rock that still thrives today.

This is not my jam, but I know it’s one of the most influential metal albums of all time. The band developed a distinctive sound—and committed to it. There’s some good righteous anger here, too. But “Iron Man” is the only song I’ll want to revisit.

a very solid album (wanted to give it 3.5)

I am very neutral on this album.

energetic, almost frenetic guitar playing and singing. gets a bit too jammy for my tastes, but still good. RIP Ozzy.

Great.

surprisingly nice

I can tell why ppl love this

Undeniably iconic. I do like the bluesier bits as well. Albums used to be 41 minutes

I just don't think metal is my genre. This is probably the best metal album I've had so far and I still, with the exception of Paranoid, found it pretty dull. I wouldn't turn it off, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it again either.

fun throwback! 3.5

Fun album! Not every song was a hit but as I've said before, rock isn't always my thing. The good stuff was really good though, nothing really bad in there, just some songs I didn't really care for.

Not bad, just kind of basic metal (for obvious reasons).

I liked the album, just not what I'd listen to on a regular basis.

Never understood the fascination with Ozzy Osborne. Terrible voice. Music is solid, though. Hard to dislike if you like anything even slightly heavy. Very much a 3 from me.

I think I like their first album more, but I recognized more than I thought I would. Maybe I’m a Black Sabbath fan.

Totally neutral on this. I like Paranoid but nothing else is good or bad.

Makes me nostalgic for my middle school heavy metal phase. Doesn't hold up much for me though

Hmm, not amazing. But iron man does kinda slap

Not my type of music, but did not mind. I’m not going to routinely listen to Black Sabbath, but I do feel like after 2 albums I could identify songs of theirs based on sound. They are very distinctive and pretty talented

I can't believe I got this today. Ozzy RIP on this day.

I don’t get the spark.

I don’t get it. The title track is ok, but the rest is pretty meh. I guess I’m more punk than metal

RIP Ozzy! Not really my thing but. Very influential. And I do know some songs. Because they're everywhere

Most overrated Black Sabbath album and one of the most overrated records of all time in my opinion. Yes, the riffs are catchy and they're good stuff on here, but compared to the first album, this one feels less engaging to me. It doesn't even have the best riffs (check out Vol. 4 or Sabotage). It's good, but not THAT good, you know?

More classics on this like War Pigs and Iron Man. Planet Caravan was a cool break from the intensity, too

noise, classic

3 stars Pet Sounds the day after Brian Wilson died, now Paranoid the day after Ozzy… starting to feel like this isn’t so random… The first half is like a Greatest Hits album, since literally 3 of their most famous songs (or the only songs average listeners like myself know) are present. And they’re quality songs. As this was my first listen (or at least first that I paid attention to), other songs didn’t stand out particularly. But nothing was a chore. Some generic stuff but other stuff I could probably get into with more listens. Definitely a quality album worthy of the thousands of bands influenced over the 55 years since its release.

Iron Man was my favorite song to play on guitar hero when I first got it. This album is a classic. Not the best Sabbath album, but iconic nonetheless.

For as influential as this album is, I was surprised at how dated a few of the songs sounded, particularly Planet Caravan. I must say Ozzy is a much better singer than I gave him credit for. Favorites: Paranoid Would I listen to it again: Probably not

War Pigs, so good. Some of the rest, a bit too jammy to keep my attention

Pretty good. I think they have better albums though.

It was good
