yk i just don’t like metal

I did not like this. This is not my style of music at all.

Post-goth and pre-punk, I was a bit of a metalhead. Even then I despised Megadeth. Dave Mustaine’s faux operatic nasal drivel is more than I can bear or take seriously. While I respect some of the musicality of this record in a purely technical way, it’s too silly to even bang you head to post ironically. I definitely laughed out loud more than once.

Just not my cup of tea

Immer noch nix für mich 1/5

Let me put it this way: This music is not suitable for the office

Neee, überhaupt nicht meins.

They always sound like AI from about 5 years ago.

I remember one of my friends showing me Megadeth riffs on the guitar. Wow. So complex, crazy progressions and hugely difficult to play, really incredible to watch someone running through parts of these tunes live. Made me appreciate the work that goes into some of this kind of music, really talented musicians. But this album is, unfortunately, shit.

Noł...

.................

i can appreciate how talented they are but i don't really want to listen to it

If someone could explain why this is on this list, please let me know.

Horrible. Everything about it. Even worse when you read about the main Megadeth douche bag and his beliefs.

Should be Rest In Peace. Please no more albums by Megadeth.

Mega death of what we used to call music. This is horrible. The album lives up to its name.

Didn't listen I already know I won't like it

I can listen to metal, but most of it is pretty annoying and all posing. This is no exception.

I do not enjoy their music at all.

I had absolutely zero desire to listen to this album. Megadeth is just nowhere near my territory — I think I only even know the band because Beavis once wore their T-shirt. I actually considered skipping it altogether, but decided to at least give it a try. The cover alone is ridiculous: some robot skeleton holding… a glowing orb? A lightbulb? Whatever it is, it’s not helping. Then the album kicks off with “Holy Wars – The Punishment Due”: “Brother will kill brother, spilling blood across the land Killing for religion, something I don’t understand.” Oh boy. No. This is simply not something I can take seriously. If you didn’t think this was cool at fourteen, you’re definitely not going to have the patience for it at forty-six. One star. I’m skipping the rest.

Hell no

I’m sure it is great … not for me though

I tried... and i will never like Metal.

Mustaine is a homophobe. Automatic one star. But also: his vocals are atrocious. It's all just a bit silly teenage boy wearing too much deodorant & thinking he's cool.

Can see why people like it but it's just really really not for me.

Meh - metal monotony

Thrash metal is a fucking awful genre.

This gave me creepy vibes. It felt too hard on one end of the spectrum and too lame on the other. Like a cute, kiddie cartoon with adult themes, it alienates all possible audiences - save possibly freaks.

I’m willing to look past my biases and state that the metal genre has more to offer than I give it credit for. This wasn’t it.

not the type of hard rock I prefer...

1+ Stars (3/15)

nach de erste Sekunde scho gar kei Bock me gha, i am sorry.

RIP, Fahhhhr ab. Das hed mir fast mini seele beerdigt. Wäh grusig. Heds mir fast s ohr verjagt und lil mega life neduzen hed wiiter gschallted nach 2min Mega one star

Oh no not Megadeath I thought, but on closer inspection the album seemed to be about an Alien conspiracy. Phew thank fuck for that, if I gotta listen to Thrash/Hair metal at least it's about something relatable! But what i want to know is what that secret service zombie is gonna do with his glowing rock of enrichiched Uranium and also how did ET get so fucking buff?

Expectations met.

Immature ranting on about destruction and decay, war and illness, etc.

I guess it’s good if you like Metal. But I don’t. At least not this.

Not my cup of tea

A bit like Metallica but with fewer catchy tunes. Still unsure if that's a good or a bad thing. Leaning bad.

I made an attempt. Not into it.

Made both children cry immediately

Firing squad? Electric chair? Public hanging? Yeah, I'd rather die than be forced to listen to this album. This list still sucks.

Not for me at all.

Can't get past the first song. Obviously good musicians. Just not my type of music

Unpleasant. I’ve never been a metal guy and albums like this are why. Bad vibes, bad melodies.

assholes

There's a photo that does the rounds every now and then on social media, you may have seen it: A stack of cassettes, usually accompanied by a caption explaining that the seven albums pictured were all released within 44 days of one another in 1991. Metallica, Use Your Illusion 1&2, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Nevermind, Superunknown and Ten. The simple story here is that for a brief spell in the early 90s, rock ruled the world. Once an exclusive club reserved for unkempt teens in mascot festooned denims, suddenly Iron Maiden were topping the charts, Guns N' Roses had a song attached to one of the most hyped movies of all time and thrash pioneers Metallica were churning out radio-friendly, verse-chorus-verse hits. The bigger picture, of course, is that, just as quickly metal embraced pop sensibilities and eyed global domination, grunge happened and yanked the rug from under it. I mention all of this because Metallica's perennial sparring partners, Megadeth kind of missed the boat in many ways, releasing a more traditional sounding metal album - Rust In Peace - in 1990, just as metal's populist wave hit. By the time of their next long player they were well and truly in a post-grunge world and revised their sound accordingly (albeit less so than some of their peers). You can take it either way really: Rust In Peace is the sound of uncompromising thrash stalwarts ploughing ahead with what they do best and refusing to sell out... Or it is the sound of a band who really aren't that diverse, adaptable or, frankly, that smart. Hangar 18 and Lucretia are decent slabs of melodic metal, but my attention soon begins to wander the more chugga-chugga and widdly-widdly things get - if you don't like bitter and sneering, sadly Dave Mustaine doesn't really have any other settings. War, death, anger, corruption, rejection, more war, more anger - even in 1990 the themes were cliche. If ever there was an album where you could imagine how it sounds simply by looking at the cover art, this is it. Fourteen-year-old me lapped up the angst, the sci-fi overtones and the guitar gymnastics. On reflection, Megadeth are a decent singles band within their genre, but they never quite had the depth to produce a consistent long-player, and we're always overshadowed by their peers in that sense. Rust In Peace is probably the peak for them but it bathed in the light of a golden hour of 80s metal which was already dimming by the time it hit the shelves. I could award two stars out of nostalgia alone, but I have to be realistic, and a five-star scale doesn't allow for much wiggle room. The simple fact is, this music doesn't do much for me in 2025 - I doubt I'll be listening to this again any time soon.

I don’t know man, that’s a lot of trash and too much guitar for me.

I used to listen to thrash and metal a lot when I was like 13-14. I remember my younger brother digging these guys maybe coz he was a drummer, but I never could get into them. The landscape back then was too saturated with much better bands, and Megadeth just never rose to the top. I didn't like the compositions and I always thought Dave Mustaine's vocals were cheesy as hell. Nothing's changed. I thought this sucked when it came out, and I think it sucks even more now.

The name Megadeth alone isn’t exactly inviting, and Rust in Peace doesn’t do much to spark confidence either. From the outset, I had low expectations—and unfortunately, the album didn’t change my mind. While I can appreciate the technical skill, particularly the guitar work, this brand of thrash metal—intense, aggressive, and laced with a touch of theatricality or dark humor—just isn’t for me. It’s loud, chaotic, and emotionally distant, leaving little that I personally connect with. Favorite track: None. I wouldn’t revisit any of these songs. Least favorite: Honestly, all of it. The best part was that it was relatively short. Album artwork: Not to my taste.

Not my cup of tea.

29/1001. Ok, I just listened to Black Sabbath's title album a few titles ago, I'm all set for metal. "Brother will kill brother" are the first lyrics I hear. omg. I'm sure there will be long solos and heavy riffs, slow and fast sections and lot of "my dick is bigger than yours and the world is dying, death will release us all, join me in hell fuck the news". And I'm halfway to the first song. So let's give it a spin and fill in later. My sister in law who is (also) a metal fan always says, that you have to ignore some of the cliches in any one music genre, and especially heavy metal, not let it disturb the music. BUT "They killed my wife and my baby, with hopes to enslave me", seriously, ROFLMAO!" Ignore that you muthas! Sorry to say, but from the first few riffs you know what the album is about. I didn't sign up for this to get back to the music I left behind already when I was a teenager…ok, maybe 16 or 17, but still.

hated hated hated

Pre-listening thoughts: oh… Post/during listening thoughts: I STILL DONT DO METAL!! YOU CANT CRUSH MY (hater) SPIRIT 2/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: um Least fav tracks: yes

Metal has all the best soulless musicians in the world.

I still don’t like metal. At least this album was short

I fully support besuited skeleton monsters with chainlink dreadlocks pulling the radioactive heart out of an alien while world leaders wearing the flags of their countries as patches on their suit coats look on with approval. I’m on record as being fully and unequivocally pro-that. But this shit REALLY sucks.

I thought this sounded like budget Metallica and then looked up and realised it kind of was. I have a soft spot for the track Hangar 18 as I'm sure I used to play it on Guitar Hero, but I found the rest of the album very, very much not to my taste. Rating: 1

Just speed metal on full throttle the whole time. Why?

Metal, not too difficult a listen, some elements of melody buried within the bombast but not really to my taste.

not my jam

Hangar 18

Still not getting the genre

Couldn’t get into it - not my style

I didn’t think this was going to be for me, and it wasn’t. General rule for me: the fewer skulls on the cover the better

Quite a disappointment, simply that.

I had completely forgotten just how simplistic and uninspired this album is. Also the sound quality is terrible: flat and lifeless. Definitely not worth revisiting.

I used to listen to this when I was 15, unlike other albums I have listened to for that long Dark side, Master of puppets, Mama etc, lyrics like "Take no prisoners Take no Shit" have not aged well. This album is not something that will be looked at now and be thought of as anything but "Trump esq" rubbish maybe it was ahead of its time! 2* Music 0* Lyrics 5* Shame I ever listened to this when I was younger

Didn't even open it - I am scared LOL - this genre hurts my ears so I didn't venutre this time

I tried, I almost got through the 1st song and young me loved music like this but old me doesn't really care for it anymore.

This album had no chance for my palette

Nope. No trash for me thanks.

Sorry but this is really annoying. Made me start to question at times if I even like metal at all. Hoe-scaring music

Thrash metal is not my thing and whilst this is not the worst thrash album on my list its not as good as Slayer - which I gave a low 2 - so I guess this is 1. Relative degrees of shit.

Refused to listen. Played some Patsy Cline instead.

Truly dull, devoid of originality or talent. I guess something has to fill the Genre slot but it would be better to scrap the idea altogether. Imagine these guys up against Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Motorhead etc etc

I made it though 3 songs before deciding I had better things to do with my life. Not enjoyable in any measurable way.

Well, this was available in 7.1 surround but I couldn’t subject myself beyond a stereo headphones listening. Truly awful, horrible songs, the guitar work seemed amateurish and the songs quick and easy to write — not a compliment. I suppose they had some allure as a live band, but, just no…

Not for me

Not for me. Boring

Dave Mustaine is such a fucking prick that I can't enjoy this one bit.

Not for me.

Rust in Peace by Megadeth showcases the band’s undeniable skill and technical prowess, with intricate guitar work and complex arrangements throughout. The musicianship is impressive, particularly the dual guitar harmonies that highlight the band's metal roots. Dave Mustaine's voice, while distinctive, can come across as a tad squeaky at times. I can appreciate why this album has garnered such a dedicated fanbase, given its heavy themes and energetic compositions. Tracks like Hangar 18 and Tornado of Souls feature standout riffs and compelling lyrics that exemplify the band's signature sound. However, despite its acclaim, the album just doesn’t quite connect with me personally. The relentless pace and aggressive tone can feel overwhelming, making it difficult to fully engage with the music. Overall, Rust in Peace is a skilled effort that reflects Megadeth's place in metal history, but it ultimately isn't my cup of tea. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 0 STAND OUT TRACK - None

No thanks

This is not my cup of tea. Absolutely hate this genre.

If I could give it negative stars, I would.

Not really my usual style, didn't listen through, have saved for another day

Terrible.

01) Holy Wars... The Punishment Due - 4,0 02) Hangar 18 - 5,0 03) Take No Prisoners - 4,5 04) Five Magics - 4,0 05) Poison Was the Cure - 4,5 06) Lucretia - 4,5 07) Tornado of Souls - 5,0 08) Dawn Patrol - 5,0 09) Rust in Peace... Polaris - 4,5 TOTAL: 4,56 (46/100) Mmmm... t(h)rash metal... I can't say how much I HATE this kind of music. Sure, the drums are great, guitars are great (especially in Tornado Of Souls), but where's the song? It's just noise. And the voice? That macho growling sh**t ain't singing... I see in reviews that there are more Megadeth and thrash metal albums to come, I'm certainly looking forward to it. Hey, my average is too high anyway so I have to give a few low marks...

Found my mind wandering, wishing I was listening to Slayer or Exodus. I prefer my thrash delivered with a barely hidden sense of glee. This sounds like it hasn't drunk enough fluids or done a poo for days.

Heavy metal. Disturbing, noisy

Total waste of time.

Another metal band, another album with songs that go on for way too long. And nasaly axel rose is just as bad as normal axel rose...ugh Guitars were coolish

Chun-chun-chun-chunnnnnng! For an hour. No.

Really? 1001 best albums and then this 1.000.000.0001th best album in the world? Fortunately Narah Fateh Ali Khan, Sparks and Guided by Voices on my 'to listen to' list.

This is really not for me. I can recognize the considerable talent of the band members (except for maybe the vocalist), but the whole thing feels like a dick waggling contest between four men who are desperately cosplaying as masculine badasses. And the longer it went on, the more I cringed and the more I wanted it to stop. I’ve written about this before, but there is something I find so off putting about music that is trying to make you think that they are so hardcore. It feels so… dorky. Take, for example, the following lyrics from “Take No Prisoners”: “Got one chance, infiltrate them Get it right, terminate them The Panzers will, permeate them Break their pride, denigrate them.” These lyrics sound awesome if you’re in middle school. But I’m not in middle school. And neither are they.

Not a fan

I want to say 1.5 stars, so I’m very sad there’s not 1/2 stars

No thanks

Again. Just no.

Well this was definitely noise! And loud! Not totally sure if i’d consider it influential? Maybe a template of what to stray away from? Not quite sure!

If I had to listen to Megadeth I suppose I would want to listen to this album. But it still was terrible. 1.5/5

I could stand one song, utterly horrible.

Hell no!

I just do not like Dave mustaine. I like some Megadeth music but I always despised his singing

This was just painful to listen to. Not my jam. All songs sounded exactly the same and why did they all have to be so long??

1. Got tired of it while still on the second song.

I feel empty. This band is so dumb.

i didn’t listen to this because i’m confident it’s going to be shit

I didn't think I was going to like this one, but I gave it a listen. 40 minutes later... It turns out I was right. I didn't get anything out of it. I was wishing I had it on a 78 turntable so it would end sooner. Next album please.

Me niego a esuchar megadeth de nuevo

Megadeath was a mega no

So bad. 1/10

Rust in Peace made my ears bleed. I'm glad I stopped after the 4th song because it likely would have made me Megadeaf.

I can’t think of a worse professional singer offhand than Dave Mustaine.

Omslaget, namnet, genrebeskrivningen "thrash metal".

Terrible

Hyper speed heavy metal is just not my thing. 1.5 stars

Too hard for me,couldn't make it through

So now we have the answer to the question of just how many high-decibel sounds an axe can make. Speaking personally, one did not actually need such an answer. But if all you have are hammers (or guitars), everything looks like a nail (or an overwrought and masturbatory solo). On the plus (or at least the least minus) side, this seems slightly more tuneful and slightly cleaner/tighter than most of the other metal, which is almost uniformly wretched, on this esteemed list. That makes it a 0.8 day,as opposed to a 0.3, say. And, seriously, editors, this is “mature” songwriting: “Winds blow from the bowels of hell/Will we get warning? Only time will tell.” And this “sardonic commentary:” “The end is near, it's crystal clear/Part of the master plan/Don't look now to Israel/It might be your homelands.” It’s all just meant to scare the women and children, right? What else could possibly be the point?

Unlistenable.

Not my cuppa tea.

I alle dager. Sjukt harry.

I'll pass

Not for me

Not my cup of tea at all

Did they say Thrash or Trash Metal? This just gave me a frigging headache.

Gaat toch helemaal nergens over? *

Metal just isn’t really my thing

Not my fav

Mindless babble noise no structure an hour of pain in my ears.

No thank you

I am, admittedly, not a fan of metal. That being said, I find some of the songs on this album interesting and engaging. But, like so much metal music, I find it difficult to get past the puerile and heavy-handed lyricism. The opener is a shrine to handling a hard topic poorly (Is Mustaine warning the IRA against "killing for religion" or the Protestant Brits in "Holy War...Punishment Due"? Or is he warning both? Why am I unable to tell no matter how many times I read the lyrics?). I can't help but feel that there is a formula at the heart of many of these songs. I'm not convinced the formula is bad, but it makes listening to the whole album a bit dull since the songs start to run together after a little bit. I am also willing to admit that I might not have the sort of ear that can distinguish the nuances of the songs, though. In all, I don't think I'll listen to it again. 3/10 (but closer to a 2 than a 4)

Hate. Thank god it's over.

I tried

IN THE EYE OF THE TORNADO. Look I'm sorry right, if I don't give this a 1 then the whole rating shabang just isn't accurate. There were some bits which were interesting but a whole album of that carry on. No thank you. Look Luke, I'm sorry. I tried, bet most of those snowflakes didn't even give it a listen.

It was awful. Really awful. Hated it

Trash-metal, højt tempo, imponerende guitarriffs
