Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim
Frank Sinatra, Antônio Carlos Jobim
Reviews (page 3 of 8)
Classic, legendary, very cool. Feels like a Friday or Saturday night in 1965. 8.1/10
Sleepy grooves for after a shindig with some cool cats
This is not my type of music, but it is still enjoyable. Sinatra's mellow voice makes it worth a listen.
Gorgeous collaboration by two of the greats of their time. Though I have heard these songs before, they just hit differently on a snowy morning in November.
Great album. I gotta ding it a few stars because bossa nova is best when performed by its spanish counter parts. But this made the genre so much more accessible to xenophobic normies in the late 50s and early 60s.
Hard to complain. Haters are too prevalent. Just stop.
Super enjoyable bossa nova. Lovely singing and pretty guitar work. Perfect background music
Quite better than the last Frank Sinatra album you recommended mate
I do have a soft spot for Frank Sinatra. Although reading that this was up against Sgt Pepper at the Grammys puts into perspective how dated this must have seemed at the time. With the benefit of time passing, I really appreciate this album.
Lovely album! 4/5
Loved this. You can feel the air in the room and the playing and singing is first rate. Bono said that Pavarotti was the greatest singer ever. I don’t see how Frank isn’t better and I don’t rank art. But he has an ability to express with his voice that I don’t get from any other vocalist.
What do you get when you mix Frank Sinatra and Bossa Nova ... I don't know, but I think I'm in love
Interesting to hear Frank Sinatra sing in Bossa Nova style
Oh yeah. Yesterday the Circle Jerks, today Sinatra and Jobim. Everything's coming up Milhouse! Setting a supreme '60s mood. I want to throw an elegant dinner party but that would mean cleaning the house. Much better to chill out and listen to this goodness.
This was a great collaboration, so good that Frank Sinatra’s voice feels completely natural over the music. His vocals and the instrumentation complement each other perfectly, with neither one overpowering the other. As for Antônio Carlos Jobim, I won’t pretend to be an expert, but from what I understand, he was one of the founding figures of bossa nova. That makes this project even more significant, because two of the most highly respected artists in their respective corners of jazz came together and introducing their audiences to something new.
Really enjoyed this album, but this feels like a situational enjoyment album if that makes sense. Great to listen to while working, cleaning or relaxing. Loved the flow.
Favorite Track: Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars
Ol' Blue Eyes teamed up with one of the fathers of Bossa Nova. You would get frostbite if you got much cooler than this. Just smoother than silk. Jobim's music is amazing and say or think what you want about Sinatra, the man could sing. This will definitely will be on the playlist of my next cocktail party. Well, someday, if I have a cocktail party, it will be on the playlist.
Two albums leading off with The Girl From Ipanema in three days. Sinatra's voice works well with bossa nova.
delightful.
great listen
(3.75)
Nice!
I really liked the vocals, just a bit repetitive.
It's funny that we get to hear the Girl From Ibiza on two 1001 albums within a few weeks. This was a lot nicer than the average Sinatra album, arguably because the bossa nova inspiration elevates the sound.
Just classic stuff great instrumentation and frank is dat dude
Love Sinatra. I loved his voice over the jazzy bossa nova music and all the songs were soothing. There's something keeping me from giving it 5 stars though, but I'm not sure what it is. I liked everything, but wouldn't say I loved it. Maybe it's the fact that all the songs sound the same. A true rating would be 4.5.
Chill background music
I had a great time. I would go back to this for sure.
It’s Frank Sinatra, can’t go wrong.
I’m not very familiar with Jazz. But this album was quite lovely to listen to. Very calming and of course, Sinatra’s vocals are very nice. I had never heard of Antônio Carlos Jobim prior to listening to this, but he did a great job composing this album. My only small critique is the songs sounded a bit too similar, but they were nice to listen to nonetheless.
Bossa nova is buried somewhere deep in my bones. It is one of my favorite music genres; I’m a sucker for it any time, any way. Additionally, I find Portuguese to be a gorgeous, soothing language, so I greatly appreciated the sprinkling of it throughout the album. While listening to this album, it was hard for me not to compare Sinatra’s versions of these standards to my favorite versions that I know by heart and hold so dear. I had to try to block them out and just focus on Sinatra’s takes. Some were surprisingly good and some were a bit underwhelming. Jobim can do no wrong in my eyes and Sinatra’s smooth stylings kept a healthy pace with him on the album. Overall, I really enjoyed it and can see myself revisiting it.
There’s always a place in my heart for bossa nova, and this feels like such a quintessential record for the genre. Sinatra’s voice works so well for the style, and it still shines through even in a little more understated than his most famous hits. Best Track: Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)
Pretty good slow album with nice Sinatra voice.
Peak Sinatra right here
Classic Sinatra, great album.
Frank Sinatra is a great singer, and I think his voice goes well with Bossa Nova. Very solid album. Mid 4.
Solid mellow jazzy Sinatra, good for background music
Really pleasant. Great ambience for a cool evening date, hangout, dinner, whatever. A great slowdown of life's pace to wind down and enjoy nothing.
Sweet tunes, easy to chill to
Enjoyed itt
Such a great voice!
I’m a sucker for the crooners
Short and sweet
very listenable
Cozy. Something you'd hear at either a doctors office or a speak easy.
Francis Albert Sinatra & Antônio Carlos Jobim This is rather lovely, the tone of Frank’s voice suits the low key and unhurried jazzy bossa nova very well, very well indeed. And it suits the warm weather at the moment. Musically it’s very nice too, the muted horns and strings with the lovely guitars and gentle percussion have a graceful sway and subtlety, balancing beautifully with the understated, elegant vocals - making a very relaxed and serene 30 minutes. It never really gets out of 2nd gear, but it doesn’t really need to, its placid, laid back movement is what makes it such a pleasant and enjoyable listen. This sort of fusion of swing, jazz, bossa nova and crooning can be tricky, it can easily slip into bland and characterless 60s easy listening, but the skill of Jobim, the delicateness of the strings and horns and Frank’s vocals make this a characterful and engaging bit of 60s easy listening. Between 3 and 4, I’ll go 4 as I liked it more each time I listened, and as I’m looking forward to coming back to it for some more relaxed, easygoing, breeziness 🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️ Playlist submission: If You Never Come to Me
Old blue eyes is always so smooth
Surprisingly fun jazzy Sinatra
Frank Sinatra is a classic that I enjoyed a lot, a bunch of songs I've never listened before.
This was a decent album, especially for background tunes.
Frank Sinatra with a Brazilian twist....I liked it
Absolutely love this one, really love the bossa nova feel with the guitars and everything. Frank Sinatra is an all-time classic, his voice is just sounding. I would recommend anyone, it’s so close to being five star with the quality, but I could sit and listen to any of these all day.
Two classic masters together for a great set of tunes!
4/5
Very nice and relaxing album, the orchestra in the background filled in any gaps that there may have been. Overall, great stuff, it was great having this in the background.
Antonio cooked
Nice relaxing album. I rate it jing jing jing jing/5
I know nothing about bossanova at all, other than surfarossa from the pixies but that's not what this is. Very nice. That opener is a damn good song. I love the guest vocals as well. Kinda wanted more Spanish vocals than are here. They hit the instrumentals hard though. Sinatra is sinatra so you get what you expect. He sounds good over these chill stummed guitars. I liked this more than the one other sinatra ive heard before. Good album
I’m a bossa boy
I enjoyed this album a lot and it’s one I’ll probably return to, although I did find some of the tracks blurring together. Fav song: Change Partners - I also loved The Girl From Ipanema and How Insensitive Least fav: Dindi
Their voices are so different that I wasn't a huge fan of the bits where they sang together but I still thought it all sounded pretty darn good, that Sinatra sure can sing!! Not my favourite version of Girl From Ipanema that I've heard... Favourite: Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars Least: How Insensitive
Bosanova is life!
Great!
Good, but liked the straight bossa nova that auto played after better
Love me some Sinatra. And it was short enough!
4.0 Whispered Martini Toasts This album is a smooth, humid dream. Sinatra lays back into Jobim’s arrangements like he’s reclining in a hammock made of saxophones.
Very smooth, I liked it a lot. It could be a five, but I'm giving it a four for now.
Chill.
Great stuff. I love it! One hang up though. He refers to Antonio Carlos Jobim as the "inventor" of Basso Nova. I got a bone to pick with that. Though very influential there were a number of artists/composers who were mixing Samba and Jazz during the same period as Jobim. They all influenced each other and took influence from those before them. So to hang that accolade on one person seems a bit narrow.
So enjoyable.
Sinatra's voice is smooth and really quite amazing. Great compositions by Jobim. Overall a very enjoyable album.
Oh, smooth smooth Frank. A little too smooth for my tastes. Loving the bossa nova Brazilian style. I do feel like actual Brazilian artists such as Astrud Gilberto have done better versions. Still, martinis and caipirinhas call.
Girl from Ipanema - fantastic. Not enough bossa nova in the world.
Going from Suicide to Frank Sinatra is harshest 180 that you can experience. It's honestly what makes this exercise so fun. I don't usually seek out Frank Sinatra music, but whenever I hear it, I feel like I'm being hugged by my grandma. He has a way to make me forget about all the stressors of life. This album is incredibly romantic and beautiful. I enjoy the composition of it. The music does a fantastic job of supporting Frank's vocals softly. It's not overwhelming, but there are some really cool compositional elements that stick out if you seek them. I don't really know Jobin, but it feels like he probably added the bossa nova feel to many of the songs. Feeling a soft 4
Smooth jazz en Bossa nova. Werkt goed samen! Heb het wel een aantal keer moeten luisteren en zelfs dan heb ik niet een duidelijk beeld van welk nummer nou wat was. Wel goeie muziek erg genietbaar. Goed om mee te slapen i guess
It's a Sinatra bossa nova album, absolute fire. Honestly it's a travesty that I had to wait 375 albums to finally get some Sinatra. My Pap was a huge Sinatra fan, and his music mostly just brings me back to days spent riding around in the backseat of the Cadillac with Sinatra on the radio. Those were good times. The music felt so uncool at the time, but now it just feels nostalgic mostly. I could listen to this all day. Anyway, onto this album. It's definitely a bit unique for Sinatra, the bossa nova thing gives it a bit of flair compared to his other music. I'm not sure if I think it's a particularly good or bad thing, but it's different and I like it. There's no major standout track on here for me (the opener "The Girl from Ipanema" is probably the closest), but it's consistently strong. The Stan Getz bossa nova album that I got on here has already made its way into my Sunday morning / evening with a book rotation (after I gave it a middling review originally), and I imagine this one is going to get added to the list. Random trivia, but this lost the 1968 Grammy to Sgt. Pepper (which was the first rock album to get album of the year). Both great albums, but I think they made the right call. Favorite song: The Girl from Ipanema Other: Dindi, Change Partners, Meditation, How Insensitive, I Concentrate On You, Baubles Bangles and Beads, Once I Loved 4/3/25
Other than the Ipa Nema tracks, where Hispanic guy sings poorly (comparatively), it’s still Frank, and somewhat unique tracks.
Like listening to velvet. A soothing album made more interesting because of Jobim. Excellent pairing of artists
nice
Great voice and album, nothing in particular stood out to me though
Pure class, what Sinatra was missing was that Brazillian touch
good classic album, enjoyed it and appreciate Sinatra influence and respect. Probably 4.5
Some nice Sinatra stuff and great orchestration. 4 stars
Really enjoyed this album as it was interesting to hear frank sinatra in a different style
Some of the best stuff I have heard from old blue eyes.
I mean…it’s Frank Sinatra
Dreamy. Frank Sinatra is a charismatic singer
Frank Sinatra in his bossa nova era slays more than I thought it would what is up with the people hating here x
Incredibly chill record, bossa nova brought to the mainstream with Sinatra and soulful music to just pass the time.
9/10
Schön.
Some classic sinatra jazz, past his prime though. Favorite track: the girl from ipanema other picks: i concentrate on you, how insensitive, change partners
calm and sultry
Rich tones and full force performances
It was a pretty fantastic album. I have a greater appreciation of the bossa nova. Good listen.
Alfred Borden : Sarah :: me : bossa nova. Do I like bossa nova? Today, yes. Ask me tomorrow and my answer may be different.
Romantic crooning A generational voice A guitar that swoons
Beautiful
A fun and calming bossa album. I read these are reworkings from a prior artist, I don't know about this but it's fun and Sinatra's voice is unmistakably solid and reliable. I could listen to him sing the phone book. Some great tracks on this one.
Sinatra's voice is truly timeless. This album made me want to kick back, pour a glass of whiskey, and just relax. It was such a pleasant album to listen through. I don't really know if I had a favorite track other than the opener because I wasn't paying close attention, but all the songs sounded good to me. Solid 4.
4/5
Beautiful and easy to like.
I've only known Sinatra for his classic jazz crooning -- interesting to hear him apply his classic delivery to bossanova. Starting on familiar ground with The Girl From Ipanema. Gotta say I prefer the Getz/Gilberto rendition, but this is fine in its own right. Gotta say Dindi is realllllly pretty. His voice paired with the orchestral sweeps is magical. Gotta say this sounds like Jinji, but who am I. Change Partners is a classy, Mr. Steal Your Girl song. With a voice like that, I'd change partners... Quite Nights of Quiet Stars is another extremely pretty and well-written song. Like all Sinatra I've listened to, this just oozes sophistication and refinement. The arrangements are really pretty and deliveries are all solid. I'd say high 4 verging on 5 for the overall quality of it.
Solid Sinatra album. Smooth and silky. 4 stars. great for working
Love the soft steady guitar paired with the smooth and steady voice. Really liked the intro and outro songs tying the whole things together. This album makes me want to smoke a cig inside while drinking a martini. Soft 4 here.
No matter the version of Girl from Ipanema, it is always a great song. Smooth singing with some very nice strings and piano in the back. Could listen to Frank all day. This is a pretty high 4.
At least the second time we've had Girl From Ipanema on an album. Beautiful song. This whole album was such a beautiful Thursday morning listen. Every time I hear Sinatra it reminds me why he such a name in the musical scene. He just really stands out and the accompanying orchestra works so damn well with him.
Enjoyable music for a cocktail lounge. Interesting to hear Sinatra refer to to the Latin style as "an exciting new sound". At he time, maybe it was but now it sounds like standard Latin Jazz to me.
This was a fun, if gentle listen. I don't need to hear it again but both performers wee great and blended well together.
the goat
Dig this vibe for Frank.
Pleasant music and vocals, slightly melancholic at times. Sounds of its time, and classic.
4.5 it's wonderful
I almost don't know what to feel when I hear the first track on this superstar crossover from the Sixties. It's strangely compelling yet somehow off or out of place in my ear. It's the ghosts of Getz and Gilberto. It's not the only one, just the most powerful, some of these tracks are thoroughly haunted by other renditions. But Sinatra's softly boozy baritone is hard for me to argue with; it's pleasant, especially over a bossa nova infused studio orchestra. Overall, this album is eminently listenable even if culturally uneasy at times.
It’s basically one large extended track by Frank. Good stuff overall, touching, sweet, and a bit coercive. Standouts: Everything but Change Partners and How Insensitive.
I really really love the song How Insensitive
Don't listen to Frank Sinatra very much. This because I am not that into the genre of his music. He is an excellent singer and I rather enjoyed this album.
Frank's records are always fantastic, and this one being with Jobim (the famous Girl from Ipanema) makes it a must.
I have not spent much time listening to Sinatra. I love these bossa nova compositions and have both performed and listened to many versions. This is good. Very good. I may go back and listen to early Sinatra to see what's there. thanks for this suggested album.
Gorgeous. Such a beautiful atmosphere. Great songs. Lovely voice. Just a great surprise when I expected to be bored
i love bossa nova sm bro think he jschlatt
Really good, but some of the songs sounded very similar.
Smooth
I like Bosa Nova and I like Frank Sinatra. Only makes sense they would go together
Lovely record. I can only imagine myself now dancing in the living room. Spectacular bossa Nova.
Such a wonderfully relaxing bossa nova album from the man himself. Helps that I listened to it on a dark and rainy drive.
I enjoy Sinatra and like some of these tunes. Jobin’s arrangements and little touches are pleasant as well.
Pretty good renditions of these Jobim classics plus some other standards all done bossanova style. Much better than I expected although I will say that some of the scatting from Sinatra sounded goofy. I’ve always loved the original Getz/Gilberto version and wasn’t sure what it would sound like with a male singing the English parts but in this case it works!
I've listened to this one recently, this duo hits incredibly
C'est Sinatra et Jobim, tu peux pas haïr ça
While he was not a nice human being, he had an amazing voice. This is an excellent collection of his music.
10/31 never heard of it. So beautiful. Such pretty sounds
3.5
It was very good. I really liked it.
a match made in heaven 8/10
This is a reeeal smooth, enjoyable time. Lovely orchestral compositions with the silkiest of silky smooth vocals across the top. I guess I don't have to wait until Christmas to get that feel-good, warming feel.
Loved this. First song is an all time fave.
A change of gear from yesterday’s classic Springsteen album, today’s is the epitome of cool. Sinatra doing what he does best. Timeless.
Approaching the end of his second wave of popularity, Frank Sinatra teams up with one of Brasil's finest composers for a bit of a belated swing towards bossa nova, with substantial success. Frank's legendary voice blends well with the musical soundscapes lain out by Antonio Carlos Jobim and one can find themselves allowing a bit of a relaxation seeping through and encouraging a sway or two in their step while listening. Regardless of the impending downswing in both genre and singer, this is a stellar enough document that is a worthy listen if one wants to delve into Ol' Blue Eyes. Favorites: Dindi, Change Partners, Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars, Meditation, How Insensitive, Baubles, Bangles & Beads, The Song of the Sabia, Drinking Water, Someone to Light Up My Life, This Happy Madness, One Note Samba, Wave.
Classic voice. Very lounge-y. I know The Girl from Ipanema. Also like changing partners and I concentrate on you.
I love this stuff
Love Sinatra.
I absolutely love this sound, and I wish there was more exposure for the likes of Jobim or even Gilberto, as while they are certainly famous it is a crying shame that bossa nova has basically been shrunken down to "elevator music" in the societal concious, despite great albums like this one being out there. I do think Sinatra's voice is a little too powerful for the melencholia often presented here, and tonally many of the tracks can come off as similar, but everything is just so pretty I can't be bothered to be upset by it. Sinatra is an obvious choice for great vocalist, but album's like this one really show his range, and deserve to be more recognized.
Very smooth
79% Best: The Girl From Ipanema; If You Never Come To Me; I Concentrate On You Must-Hear? Almost
I listened to this album quite a few times and loved it every single time. Frank Sinatra's voice is just so iconic and the Bossa Nova style is wonderful in so many ways, and I particularly loved the up beat rhythm and guitar in The Girl from Impanema. My only issue is that the rest of the album doesn't draw my attention in the same way. It's beautiful and so easy to listen to but it's not a 5/5 for me in the way other albums are. Probably like a 4.6 if I'm honest.
Smooth
Frank Sinatra is a dipshit that lent Ronald Reagan his plane in his campaign against Jimmy Carter. That's just a fact. But this album is a vibe that I need for all the times when I'm not trying to make myself sick with such knowledge.
8/10 Krasan i miran album, spoj Brazila i Amerike, bossa nove i tadasnjeg popa. Jobimova The Girl From Ipanema je i danas hit, i valjda jedna od stvari sa najvise obrada ikad. Lirike pune ljubavi, muzika puna topline, a stvari poput I Concentrate On You poziva na lagano njihanje u (idealno) nekom zadimljenom bircu i prigusenim svijetlima.
****A classical easy listening album. Beautiful orchestra and Frank Sinatra’s smooth voice
28 minutes of sozzled Frank, perfect.
This was a quality choice
Really beautiful, calming, first song was especially touching. Hope more like this (good variation) are still to come. 4.1
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
A good album, I liked the songs The Girl From Ipanema and I Concentrate On You.
Smooth
ill never say no to more girl from ipanema. frank has a very soothing voice
The aura of the Chairman of the Board but darn it - he delivers.
Sinatra flies to Brazil? Sure, why not
Sweet, mellow and soothing. When Old Blue Eyes took his music seriously, he could create absolute masterpieces like this.
I’m all about lounge life. It’s so smooth and calming. Sinatra really was one-of-a-kind. Such a voice. There is no effort involved and it always swings. What a wild time, 1967, to have this album and Sgt Peppers going head-to-head for the Grammy. I mean, how do you compare them? It’s like comparing Serena Williams and Simone Biles. They’re not playing the same game. Great album. 4.0
It's great - the sentimental yet saccharine sound of Sinatra blends perfectly with the bossa chords and laid back style. Jobim gets a backseat here, but I suspect this album helped cement many of his songs as standards. What more could you want? Someone to slow dance with, I reckon. 4.7
I had heard this version "The Girl from Ipanema" before, or at least one of the versions before, didn't realize it was a whole album. Lovely.
Favvolåt: Girl from Ipanema (Studio Session)
I love this project. It’s soothing to the ears and just evokes emotion out of you. You can hear the pain, the yearning in Frank’s voice and the instrumentation only enhanced that. A well done collab project, 28 minutes is so easy to digest too.
Bossa magic! Not an every day kind of thing, but definitivley perfect when the occasion requires it
Strange how of course everyone "knows" Frank Sinatra, and a few can sing a few bars of his songs. But after listening to this album from start to finish, I have to admit his fame is well deserved AND as astonishing as it may seem, his lyrics still remain relevant today. It is much more about mood and feeling than I had ever considered as I have only been exposed to his music via film or other scenario based cultural artifacts. But just alone, listening... It makes you hard pressed not to wonder, if it is true, who exactly IS making music like this today?
If you're going to listen to a crooner, listen to the best! This album transported me back in time to a dark lit NYC club with candles on the tables. Relaxing and soulful.
Pretty sure Sinatra was a sleazy douchecanoe but his music never failed to hit that smooth spot. This album feels nice, almost cozy.
Classy south american songs improved by voice of Sinatra. I won't compare Brazil and American versions. Both are great.
Simple. Classic. Music to be played at the beginning of a dinner party when people are mingling, sipping champagne and eating canapés. Even better if the dinner party is on a yacht in St. Barth’s
A very pleasant mix of Frank Sinatra's voice and bossa nova grooviness. "Girl from Ipanema" slaps, of course. Other notable tracks include "Once I Loved" and "Sinatra/Jobim Medley." There are frequent dramatic and romantic moments in this piece. "Baubles Bangles and Beads" and "Didi" were not particularly interesting to me. It's an enjoyable experience with some Italian(?) singing sprinkled in for extra charm.
Loving the Frank/Antonio collaboration!
That voice
I love Sinatra. And I love the song The Girl from Impenena. I had never heard this album before. There is a whole other rating scale for Sinatra. I really liked this album. But compared to some of his others, it’s not my favorite.
Gentle album, bossanova with Frank's vocals, what's not to like. Would've liked to hear more of Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Tolles Album. Kann man gut in eins durchhören.
Groovy, baby
One of the great vocal talents capitalizing on a relatively young genre - way more interesting and enjoyable than I would have expected.
This album was nice for Meditation. How Insensitive of me to think this wasn’t.
Bossanova! (Sorta)
great album, loved every song in it. Started off super strong, but then it sort of fell off. The worse songs were still super good though.
Frank Sinatra clearly belongs on this list, and this album was a solid listen. It’s a distinct vibe, but generally captures what I think of when I think “Frank Sinatra”.
BL: Both known and loved artists by myself, however was unaware that this collaboration existed, So it'll be good to see. AL: A great album, a lot of Americanized renditions of South American classics, which I appreciate would've been the norm at the time, although the originals in the mother tongue still appeal to me more. Solid record with lots of good tracks on it, Sinatra is amazing as is Jobim. The orchestration is also very good from Ogerman. FT: "Quiet Night of Quiet Stars", "How Insensitive" 4/5
Day95 - sit back with a drink and relax to the smooth sounds of old blue eyes
Impeccable gentle lift music.
My grandpa hates Frank Sinatra, and to that I say: I hate my grandpa. (Just kidding). The godfather had a character based on Frank. He is an icon. They could never make me hate Frank. PLUS Antonio Carlos Jobim- which this was my first introduction to him- he was great as well. I really loved this album.
this album was nice to listen to, very relaxing and i enjoyed it overall,
Lovely music, Frank's voice is wonderful
4.5
Just so much respect for this album and this artist. So smooth and the instrumentals that accompany him are so grand
Delightful
Not bad. I love Jobim. Sinatra’s treatment is pretty good. I was surprised to find out that he was very much attuned to the sound of a performance, as demonstrated by the last studio recording complete with commentary. 4 stars
This Francis dude sounds just like Frank Sinatra.
Ein Klassiker
The Getz/Gilberto version of “Girl from Ipanima” will always define the song for me, but nothing was bad about this one. Never been the biggest Sinatra fan (he gets wayyy overplayed when you grow up in New Jersey), but thought it was really cool listening to the studio sessions track where he goes through the song three straight times. Hearing him trying out different expressions of the same lyrics was interesting insight into the process where I’ve mostly only heard what feels like a very (somewhat over) polished final product.
depresses me for some reason
Listened Before? N I don't think there's a Sinatra recording that I don't like his voice speaks to me just like it does millions of others. This one doesn't have all the big top hits on it, but its great all the same. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: The Girl From Ipanema
Sinatra riding high after two back-to-back Grammy albums of the year teams up with Antonio Carlos to elevate the bossa nova sound to new heights.
Heard it
Quite soothing, it was nice
Brilliant Love Sinatras voice.
I didn’t think I liked Sinatra, but I do love bossa nova, and though they don’t always mesh perfectly here, I definitely enjoyed the album as a whole. Feels like a nostalgic childhood dream.
Nice easy listening bossa nova sound
We liked this, a softer, gentle Sinatra. Wouldn't listen to it a ton in place of our normal Sinatra, danceable Playlist but not a knock against this at all. Very laid-back. Added 6 tracks to our 1001 Experience Playlist
Easy listening jazz that would work as the backing track to a quiet beach holiday.
Frankie kinda cookin.
loved it
Dit heeft toch altijd iets speciaals voor mij; Werkt goed als achtergrond muziek, maar als ik me dan focus op zijn stem en sound dan realiseer ik me weer hoe goed Frank was.
Sgoe
What is that mellifluous voice.. omg I can now understand the phenomenon that was Frank Sinatra
Contains some bossa nova tunes. Classic Frank Sinatra sounds.
Beautifully constructed and timeless representation of the Bossa Nova style with the GOAT. Hard not to do 5 but a solid 4 with room. What a lovely timepiece
solid i like this actually
Smooth as butter
Looooved this one. So soothing and sensual. Who knew I'd be a fan of Ol' Blue Eyes?
It’s mercifully short and it’s got the girl from impanema sung by Sinatra,i Like Sinatras Voice and this Album has a wonderfully cozy vibe to it.
Slow and sappy love songs are usually my least favourite kind, but I was definitely impressed with the smoothness of his voice, and I did actually enjoy that from start to finish. Generally, I’d listen to that kind of music more as relaxing background music than for the sake of listening to it. Anyway, guy’s got such a damn smooth voice, I’ll give it a 4 just for that.
Bossa flavor to standard Sinatra vibes. 4.
Grandma Hare set me on Sinatra in my teens and I’ve been a big fan ever since. I love the standards that he is most famous for, but also great to hear lesser-known songs here. Plus, more Brazilian influence! Enjoyed the Portuguese duets in a few songs. Great stuff all around. It’s mind-blowing how many albums and recordings Frank Sinatra put out over like 50 yrs. I personally got about 20 Sinatra records from Grandma and Grandpa’s collection and recently culled it, but he’s still my most represented artist by a good margin. A solid four stars!
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I will be seeking out more collaborations like this.
Enjoyed listening to, will probably revisit. Haven’t listened to much in this genre/era before so maybe more difficult to judge first time
Smooth, Sinatra's voice works perfectly with bossa nova
It's Sinatra doing Bossa Nova, and it's just delightful.
Francisco Alberto Sinatra.
I can’t believe I didn’t think of Frankie S and bossa nova before, but it really goes so well. The songs here aren’t anything special (the Girl from Ipanema being the exception), mainly bossa nova standards and some classic standards, but ol’ blue eyes and the legend antonio carlos jobim really shine. highlights were everything bossa nova, lowlights were the lyrics and the boring standards (meditation…. meh). very solid overall, though.
Lovely. The voice, the arrangements, the production, the songs. And all recorded in two days.
Not my fav Sinatra by any means... But Jobim is an amazing musician/song writer and these songs are all classics.
Sexy smooth bossa nova. Good stuff. 4/5
Mmmmm, tropical - this is music to get sunburned and rumhammered to. 🌞 Fave track - "The Girl From Ipanema" is always a pleasure to hear, and this was a very nice rendition. "How Insensitive" from the tracks I was unfamiliar with - very chilled, that one.
Great combination, not something I'd listen to often, but enjoyable. 3.5/5
The soundtrack of dimly lit bars where it always feels like Midnight. A place where I fella would go to meet his "side piece" or a former flame he can't stop thinking about. There's only one window, and smoking is allowed in this entire establishment. In fact, it's encouraged, if not required. No beer is served, only hard liquor. Anyone who orders their drink on the rocks is considered questionable, as the regulars like their whiskey net, their Johnnie Walker Blue and their women blonde. Bowls of pretzels are available upon request. No other food is available, save an old popcorn machine in the back that's reserved for regulars, which is 98 percent of the patrons in the establishment. The racial makeup is surprisingly mixed, and everyone seems to get along because no one ever gets cancelled. The jukebox has 100 45 RPM records that never change, save for that one time 20 years ago when "Don't Know Why" by Norah Jones was added, replacing "Ferry 'Cross The Mersey" by Gerry & The Pacemakers. There aren't as many whispers about how the owner is "mobbed up" but it's still understood to be true. There's a framed black and white photo of Roberto Clemente making a perfect throw from right field above the cash register. Ubers and Lyfts aren't needed because there's always a cab available to take you home. Or back to her place. Former Chicago Bears star Bulldog Turner used to come here when he was in town. So did former television star Jayne Kennedy. There are no TV's. There used to be a television, one television in the corner that was only turned on for live sporting events. And don't worry if you're out of smokes. That cigarette machine next to the jukebox is always stocked, and the bartender can make change.
Definitely frank
smooth and tan and easy and classy. 4 stars.
Love ol' Frankie!
There's just something about Sinatra. Great ballads, laid back guitar. 4/5.
Give me bossa and I’m happy
Väldigt trevligt att rensa svamp till
This was really enjoyable. I love Sinatra’s take on the more well known numbers and the songs that were original for this session were really cool. Just a laid back pleasure.
3.5 stars. Sinatra crooning over bossa nova makes for beautiful background music. Dock the album a little bit for all the tracks sounding the same and it being under 30 min long. Standout is the leadoff "The Girl from Ipanema".
It could be that I’m sitting here on a Saturday night, having a drink, chilling…but this feels pretty good.
How do you get a job going "bim bom bim bim" and "dee ba dee ba dee" on songs. I want that job.
Excellent lounge/elevator music. Very chill and cool.
Second album that features The Girl From Ipanema.
Classic Frank Sinatra.
Classic crooning from the king of the crooners.
4.5
Bossa nova, slow samba, beatiful composition, to slow for my taste
Geting on the list fortsättning next time i am cooking or black tie event. Classy.
This was a great surprise. I saw it and thought yawn. Played it and really enjoyed.
mysig, finns några bangers! olika versioner av samma låt så passar inte så bra att lyssna i ett
Croon away kid. Croon away
I'm not a Sinatra fan but I am a bossa nova fan! Too much girl from ipanema though.
Glorious. Must-buy.
Sinatra's Bossa nova phase is criminally underrated. I could pour a whiskey and sit and listen to this any day of the week.
Bossa nova plus Frank Sinatra is a natural fit and having Antonio Carlos Jobim onboard anchoring the album with his guitar (and providing the occasional vocal), as Sinatra interprets Jobim’s songs is inspired. I really liked this a lot.
Lounge music for sure, but so smooth. I want to give this 3.5 but since that doesn't exist I'll round up to 4 because it is so moody
Great vibes and great jazz sound!
Vibes!
first listen truly wonderful
Excellent album, even a rock and roll guy can appreciate this
“The Girl From Ipanema” is becoming one of my favorite songs and the version here is wonderful. Frank Sinatra sounds absolutely at home on bossa nova. His voice feels totally natural on these songs. This album is a smooth, seductive pleasure. The album cover is gorgeous too.
I recently watched a long form interview with a rock music producer (Rick Beato) and one of my favorite guitarists - Dean DeLeo (from Stone Temple Pilots), and Dean showed how his early love for Jobim influenced so many famous hard rock guitar parts and songs in STP (he was also I believe the main songwriter for the group so he was writing more than just the guitar parts). It's amazing to me to hear that interview a week or so ago and get this appreciation for this Brazilian composer by way of a hard rock guitarist and now I'm hearing Jobim bossa nova-ing around an album with Frank Sinatra on top of his guitar. When I was growing up I thought that Frank Sinatra was overrated. I was very susceptible to having a rebellious look on things, like "well everyone else likes X so how good can X really be?", and Sinatra was the king of the world for all of the older people in my family. After growing out of that though I am really amazed every time I hear his voice. It's so hard to find the words to describe the attractiveness in it. Smooth, evocative, pristine, intriguing, mysterious, calm. A good writer could probably find a thousand ways to describe the beauty of his voice. Sinatra is the perfect example for me in my dissertation on how some people have attractive voices purely by natural anatomic chance. You really can't teach someone to have that buttery smooth timbre, it's either your vocal cords can do it or they can't. The world is fortunate when someone like him chooses to spend his life on music and it's funny to me to ponder how unfortunate it would have been for us if he went into like metalwork or dentistry. This Latin jazz setting is so fun to hear his voice on. I can't believe I don't know this album (besides "The Girl From Ipanema")- it's stunning and somehow 56 years later this still sounds fresh to me. This was a great listen for me. Unfortunately many of the songs were missing from Spotify for some reason? And I had to search around for them. Not a big deal and doesn't influence the rating.
Subtilt och växer sakta, sakta. Trevligt om än inte omtumlande.
It starts brilliantly, with a not quite Getz/Gilberto, but certainly still worthy version of Girl From Ipanema. After that, it's an up and down album of bossa-nova by Vegas, but is so short at about 29 minutes it never lets you down badly. Antonio Jobim's slinky guitar grooves really make the album pop.
Frank kinda takes the spotlight and shoves ol’ Jobim to the corner doesn’t he? Taking the parts of Bossa Nova he enjoys and forming it to the style he desires. This isn’t a bad thing, in fact, I think it adds to Sinatra’d talent to be able to blend two regions of music so seamlessly. Beautifully quiet and powerful album. Lyrically impressive as are almost all of Frankie boy’s songs. Not much to dislike, but it didn’t wow me or anything. 4/5
Solid
Bedankt Frank om me zo vroeg wakker te maken maar het toch gezellig en weemoedig te maken
The girl from Ipanema is zo fire hoho
+The Girl From Ipanema +Dindi +Change Partners +Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars Great relaxing album, could be good as backround music.
Chill album. Already started out with Girl from Ipanema, which was nice. Like how they put both English and Portuguese in the titles. Listened to the Deluxe Version. + Girl from Ipanema + How Insensitive + Wave
Easy listening, was a great time
Is it me or is Sinatra weirdly out of tune repeatedly here? Still, it's a whole record of Jobim, and while it doesn't have The Wave on it, it's still good.
Good easy listening
What a nice listen for a low key Friday afternoon. Really enjoyed hearing some Sinatra outside of his hits. Lovely record.
PREFS : The Girl From Ipanema (Gârota de Ipanema), Change Partners, Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars (Corcovado), Meditation (Meditação), How Insensitive (Insensatez), I Concentrate on You MOINS PREF : If You Never Come to Me
I believe this is the third Sinatra album I’ve listened to. His music has been a little hit and miss with me, but I do seem to enjoy the happier songs over the miserable ones. I’m eager to listen to this and see where it lands for me! Songs I already knew: The Girl From Ipanema Favourites: The Girl From Ipanema, How Insensitive I’ll start this off by saying that this is likely my favourite Sinatra album out of the ones I’ve heard. My music is interesting throughout and his voice is as perfect as you’d expect. Whereas The Wee Small Hours Gad me growing bored at times and eager for the end, this one had me hooked from beginning to end. It still isn’t the type of music that pulls me in, but I can certainly appreciate the artistic talent on show here, and so would be an easy album to recommend to others to try.
I'm a pretty big fan of Frank. I like the upbeat stuff he does a little better than this one but I did like this quite a lot. This quiet madness was probably my favorite song on this album. This will probably be in my regular rotation.
I'm a fan of Frank Sinatra... he's got a great voice so you can't really go wrong. This album was a bit slow though. IMO, he does better with his upbeat/lively songs. Makes his personality shine more. Still, like I said, good voice, relaxing. 7.5/10
mucho goodo
Mucho relaxo. Frank has some much better songs in his catalog but I really can't hate on Old Blue Eyes too much, it's also much better than the sad sack In The Wee Small Hours album that I felt bad about rating so low.
Hard to vote down Frank Sinatra - I love the last song on the album where they are in the studio.
It's Frank Sinatra, so it obviously belongs on this list. I found this one more interesting than the previous album got, maybe because of Antonio Carlos Jobim. I'm not sure. Saved tracks: 'The Girl From Ipanema', 'Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)', 'Baubles, Bangles And Beads'
The man should be cancelled. But does have one of the all time iconic voices. Did not know he was recording music since the ‘39. I’d love to know more about his mob connections. Antonio Jobim is the original composer of The Girl from Ipanema. Sinatra a voice goes incredibly well with the music. I love this shit. Sot The girl from ipanema Quiet nights of Quiet Stars If you never come to me I concentrate on you Once I loved 4/5
I really adore big band music, and this was extremely enjoyable to listen to!
Highlight: The Girl From Ipanema
It's bossa nova, so I knew it was gonna get a high score from me. I think Sinatra's smooth voice fits with the music pretty well. The instrumentation was great and I loved listening to this album. It's was nice music to just relax and jam to. There were quite a few good songs on here, but some of them were a bit too slow and without change for me, so I feel I can't give it a 5. My favourite songs were The Girl From Ipanema, Change Partners, and Baubles, Bangles and Beads.
Frank Sinatra's voice is so soothing and peaceful and the harmonies by Jobim only make this more enjoyable than the solo work I was familiar with
Classic Sinatra sound paired with a classical guitar sound makes for a great laid back album
Very pleasant. Not sure if this is what Sinatra is like all the time, but I loved how subtle and non-demanding this was. Excellent. Standouts: The Girl From Ipanema
Rigtig søndagsmusik, bare lækkert
v good
Always up for a little Sinatra. A nice pairing that delivers the goods.
Didn’t think I’d enjoy this. But it was nice while getting some work done.
