Zep is the best!

Ahhh, what a great album! There are so many five-star tracks on this. Since there are a couple of four-star tracks, though, and one zero-star track, I can only give it four stars overall - despite the sheer brilliance of Since I've Been Loving You, and Tangerine, in particular.

One of their more random assortments. Immigrant Song is great but what’s with that mix? Then two strangely happy, good times songs. Then blues. It gets around.

Classic, great

My least favourite of the Led Zepp we have done so far - was lacking the sauce in comparison

I have to look the truth in the eye, here: I don't really like Led Zeppelin. I thought I did, I own two albums, but I can't say I had a truly good time with this. As another reviewer put it nicely, they're somehow so exhausting. Like they've begun to occupy the same space as the Stones - I love some songs, but long exposure to their ouevre annoys me. MUCH better music than the Stones, but so dialed up to 11. Now, III is a fairly relaxed affair, has two of those songs, Immigrant Song and Gallows Pole (the next two are also nice), which puts it well enough II, but that's just enough for rounding up a good 3.

It’s hard to know how much Led Zeppelin rules and how much they’ve carved a valley in my brain from when I was 12. Immigrant Song has to be one of the best opening tracks to a rock album of all time and a top 5 zep song. The hiss/echo effect in the beginning is also incredibly cool to build into the riff. All the little things. On this listen I was really struck by Bonham and JPJ. They have 3 songs where Bonham doesn’t play…which is crazy but also a testament to them as a band. When Bonham plays he’s just so good…his personality comes out in “Since I’ve been loving you”. The kit sounds so good and the panning they do across the kit makes the fills sound so good. When your drummer is that good you make him loud and get to hear all his nuances. The more Bonham rips the more JPJ matches him and some of his bass lines are nuts. Along with all the other arrangements he does on non bass instruments. It’s not their best album but anything less than a 4 is an insult to how good of a collective band they were at this point.

I'd never heard a lot of this. Some really cool stuff in here. Highlights for me: 'Friends' has such an unsettled feel to it – I'd be curious what musical trick they're pulling to achieve that effect.

Super fucking sick

some really great guitar tones, especially for 1970 generally found singing quite annoying, however did hit the spot on a few songs and doesn't really overall affect the performance (immigrant song, since I've been loving you, tangerine) around 7/10

Some excellent drum and rhythm work here. The album maybe could have used one more genius song. Still, very solid throughout.

Solid album, was good to listen to again after a long hiatus

Do I like this album more than Physical Graffiti probably not but its still a great album front to back. Stand out tracks: - Immigrant Song - Celebration Day - Since I've been loving you - Out on the tiles - Gallows Pole - Tangerine - That's the way

This is definitely the best Led Zeppelin album.

This CD is amazing, I've heard it many times before. It feels in many ways like an experiment, a prototype that would lead Zep from their perfection of hard-rock blues on I-II into the new terrain of IV and "Houses of the Holy". And like any good experiment, not everything works - but overall it's a success. The CD opens strong. In fact, "Immigrant Song" is like the gold-standard of a strong opening. Listening to it again, I noticed there's a connective thru-line between the first three songs - "Immigrant Song" is connected to "Friends" via the odd sort of "radio-static" production flaw, and then "Friends" just segues into "Celebration Day". Between that and "Since I've Been Loving You", which is probably the most emotionally powerful song on this CD, side one really hooks you in before you even have a chance to think too hard about it. Side two is the more experimental, with the exception of the solo on "Tangerine" it's pretty much all acoustic. I love "Gallows Pole" and "Bron Yaur Stomp", they just inject so much passion and energy into the arrangement. It's almost an afterthought what makes Zep good overall. Plant is at the peak of his vocal prowess here, and he's the gold standard for 70s rock vocalists. Page's lush overdub forests really expand on this one vs. I and II, so on e.g. "Celebration Day" he manages to weave together what sounds like about a half-dozen different lines. Of note, this CD is, like all of Zep, pretty guitar-dominant, but on only one song ("Tangerine") does Page actually just lazily strum cowboy chords (despite lazily strumming cowboy chords being hitherto the bedrock of most rock music). He does something unique and interesting, rhymically or harmonically, on every song, even when (as in the case of say "Gallows Pole") the underlying structure is very straightforward. They've got the tightest rhythm section you can imagine. There's also quite a wide diversity of sound, both in terms of instrumentation (like on "Friends", "Celebration Day" and "Tangerine") and recording techniques, toggling between amplified and acoustic, lo-fi and hi-fi. I can't quite give it a five though. It just doesn't peak high enough.

Led Zeppelin should have a B-side issue but they don't. While you might approach them like The Who, The Talking Heads, or The Rolling Stones, they are so much more than just the hits. Every song is a hit. This album is no exception, if anything it's the rule. Fav Track: Since I've Been Loving You

Great album, but I'm gonna go with the orthodoxy that is not quite up there with II and IV.

Great album

My fav album from them. Too many good songs. His voice fits perfect for his classic rock era and almost all songs shine with it. Great guitar work

A great album. I really enjoyed the more stripped down tracks in the back half.

Great album with some legendary tracks.

Underated overall in the Zeppelin catalog in my opinion. Not the most consistent, but the highs are very high here. Can't go wrong 👍

FUCK YES LOOP ZOOP I always describe, if you want to listen to heavy-ish 70s rock just always go for Led Zeppelin, all these other fuckin bands just sound like them and trying to copy their style, but Led Zeppelin did it first and did it the best. (LOOKING AT YOU GRETA VAN FLEET FUCK U) Immigration Song Friends (this song is so cool and bluesy wtf Led?!) Celebration Day Since I've Been Loving You Out On the Tiles Bron-Y-Aur Stomp Hats off To (Roy) Harper Super cool and more blues than I thought it would be? Some small duds so thats why not the perfect score but still fantastic.

Buena revisión de un disco tan clásico. Conocía "Immigrant Song" (tremendo clásico), pero también me sonaban otras como "Since I've Been Loving You" y "Tangerine" (otro clásico).

The fifth best Zeppelin album is so f#@king good.

Love this album, another one that reminds me of car rides with my dad. Immigrant Song is a strong opener. Leaving room in the rating in case there are other Zeppelin albums on the list. Rating is a 3/5 among other Led Zeppelin albums. A solid 5 against other albums that we have already heard.

Considering this album is 55 years old, it really has stood the test of time. I was born 13 years after this was released and I think it still slaps in 2025. Cracking stuff

Really enjoyed listening to this! Immigrant Song is always awesome.

Hdp Altijd goed led Zeppelin

One of my fave LZ albums. Despite the fact that many don’t care for it, Tangerine, Immigrant Song, and Gallows Pole will always rock. Since I’ve Been Loving You may well be LZ’s best song.

Other than immigrant song, feels a bit too much like british guys trying to be southern blues/roots musicians. Actually surprised by how few songs I knew

haha drum petal go brrrr

I was late to appreciate just how good Led Zeppelin was, and particularly Jimmy Page. I have not done a deep dive into much of their work past their top dozen hugely popular songs. I was largely unfamiliar with this album but absolutely loved it. High 4+.

Bonhams quality shines through. Classic Zeppelin all round

Great listen. It may not be as flash as their previous two album, or as epic as the few that follow it, but this record shows Led Zeppelin branching out and experimenting to very positive results. Don't go into this expecting banger after banger (even if there are a few of those here), this is a more subdued type of record that unfolds on repeat listens. Key tracks: Immigrant Song Friends Since I've Been Loving You Out on the Tiles

Whenever I rate my album of the days, I always talk about how talented the singers must be to create the albums. Well, they’re lucky I’m not using this album as a point of comparison because next to this? I hate to say all the other albums are more disappointing than David Bowie’s cover of Across the Universe.

Was a decent album for sure, and reminded me of my dad. I wouldn’t search it out on my own, but I’d definitely listen to it if it came on the radio. My favorite songs were “Gallows Pole”, and “That’s the Way”.

Good groove

Amazing album, first time listening to the whole and I think I need a few listens for it to grow on me.

Love this album. Possibly has the best opener of all time and also has my favorite Zeppelin song, Since I’ve been Loving You”

Good, but not their best outside of Immigrant Song

This is epic stuff with a lot of variety.

Love Zep.

Very strong opener and then fun throughout

Man, this album rips.

Classic album. Love listening to Led Zeppelin

Listened to this album my entire life. 50+ years later and it still crushes.

Absolutely love this! Is it their best album? Very debatable but it is fucking tremendous!

4/5. Probably the black sheep of Led Zeppelin self titled albums. It's surely the quietest and this change of pace can throw you off at first but these are some of the most down to earth in their whole discography. Sure, there some bangers on here but the rest of the songs hold merit as well. I can pick almost any song on here and would not skip it. Softer sounds do not mean less talented and Led Zeppelin proves it here. I will say, it is not perfect despite the good ones mainly because the last two songs kind of end the album on a bad note. Otherwise, another W in Zep's catalogue. Best Song: Immigrant Song, Since I've Been Loving You, Gallows Pole

I had forgotten how strong an album this is. There's a little something for everyone. My only complaint is that "Immigrant Song" isn't long enough.

Led Zeppelin leans more into the acoustic guitar on their third effort. This is probably their most folksy album, especially on the b side. It taps into a side of the band that works unexpectedly well, foiling the usually hard rock that Zep is best known for. Is this their best work? Certainly not, but it stands out as being their most memorable.

Can’t put into words at this moment why this isn’t a 5 for me but it isn’t. Maybe after hearing so much other music and having Led played so much throughout my time that maybe at this moment I feel a little burnt out. That being said a four and feeling done with a artist/band says something too.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming. Fantastic album from a top tier band

I’ve liked the song Immigrant Song since the girl with the dragon tattoo movie which does a cool cover of it. We woke to this album on the day that we were supposed to go to Iceland where ironically, the song was written. Great composition but not the best of Led Zeppelin

We started our Labor Day Friday with “immigrant song” , which we recently learned was written about the band’s trip to Iceland. It proved a cruel irony though, as we had made the difficult decision to forego our flights that evening to Reykjavik due to logistical issues. So it was either a sign that we should send it, or the 1001 album gods taunting us. As for the rest of the album, I can’t help but think it doesn’t bring the heat like some of the other Led Zepplin offerings outside of immigrant song. Regardless it’s still a great listen.

This was very good.

I gave it a 3.8 round to 4 stars. Let's start out with the two all time classic songs, Immigrant Song and Since I've Been Loving You. Two absolute bangers in the crazy rocking Norse Myth song and a slow driving bluesy classic. The rest of the album has more folk and Celtic influenced songs. Overall its different than LZ 1,2 & 4, but that can be a good thing if you want something different. Definitely should be in my regular rotation.

I always feel bad for this album, sandwiched between 1, 2, and IV. It's still really damn good Zeppelin.

Banger and a half

I associated Zeppelin with drug-addled burnouts of my highschool days until I was nearly out of college, and "got" Zeppelin in a new way. At that point John Bonham had been dead ten years or more and I was able to sort through the discography at my will. I came to discover I the heavy blues of the first two albums kind of bore me. I prefer III, Houses of The Holy, Physical Graffiti, and Presence. Three comes at you with more interesting and varied rhythms, and the entire band performs so well, and so well together. I particularly like "Out On The Tiles" - "Gallows Pole" - Tangerine." That's a great run.

Immigrant song is great, everything after is good but overrated. 3.5

Led Zeppelin III was not as commercially or critically successful as the band first two releases, but it would have been almost impossible to be more successful than the first two. The album was highly anticipated, which could explain some of the critical reception. Some of the negative feedback to III contributed to the band's reclusive, anti-media posture. The band explored a more acoustic-based sound on this album, like in "Gallows Pole" and "That's the Way." These songs show the band's ability to expand the range of influences incorporated in their music, as they would continue to do for the rest of their career.

A fantastic album, never understood why this was considered an inferior album to the first five.

It's a surprise to me, but I'm into this album. I like the acoustic sound and folksy feel. It's like a fast-moving current that appears calm at the top but unsettled underneath.

Starts off as well as any LZ album. Some great moments throughout but does not hit as many high points throughout. It sort of feels like elements they would expand on later - or reprises of what they had already done. But the riffs when they appear are u deniable.

Immigrant Song is just iconic! Very nice album.

Although I think "Led Zeppelin IV" is better album, this one doesn't really lack anything. In 1970 it was definitely great. Now still is. 4.5/5.

Best album of the 60+ I have listened to so far. More of this, please 4.5

A great album with some true bangers and a little filler. Page's guitar playing and JPJ's bass work is simply superb throughout. Since I've Been Loving You has to be one of the heaviest non-metal song ever. Zep sounds like they are having fun writing/recording music at this point.

I've not listened to this album much previously. Heard it was a bit "folky" but I would say that. 4 stars for Immigrant Song alone

Excellent. Yes. Also I did fail my Genetik exam.

Led Zeppelin always sound fantastic. I just wish their songs didn't sound quite so much like they know that.

Led Zeppelin are classic for a reason! This is the kind of music we listen to around the house anyway -- I enjoyed this album. :)

I like "That's the Way" and "Immigrant Song" (obvi).

First listen Saved 7/10 Top track: Since I've Been Loving You

The tide has turned on this record and thank goodness for that. No longer considered Led Zeppelin's worst album, 'Led Zeppelin III' is a welcome foreshadow into the diversity of sound the band would explore later on. Simply put, if you don't vibe with this record, then maybe you don't vibe with a crucial element of the band, which is their total embrace and celebration of English/Celtic folk and regional music, particularly from the Middle East and North Africa. Jimmy Page's ability to take his guitar virtuosity, Robert Plant's soaring vocals, and John Bonham's sheer power as a drummer is Led Zeppelin's musical innovation. But no disrespect to John Paul Jones, who was responsible for many of their arrangements and is a masterful multi-instrumentalist. Certainly on this album, you hear some wonderful mandolin lines. So if you don't care for all that, then you're missing what makes Led Zeppelin special tbh. Eighth grade seems to be the time when the geekiest music nerds I know let the Led out, myself included. This was my favourite Led Zeppelin record growing up; it certainly brought me the most pleasure. No outrageously long wankfests ("Since I've Been Loving You" is the closest thing and it's my least favourite track), no dumb songs about sex and women, no drum solos, no 'Lord of the Rings' references. Honestly, you can point to this collection of songs as upholding all that makes Led Zeppelin unique without needing to apologize or side-step anything. "Immigrant Song" is the song that normies would know but with good reason because it absolutely whips ass. Remember what I said about Led Zeppelin's musical innovation? Well, this song captures all of that in miniature. Even though the rest of the record isn't like this at all, it doesn't mean that Led Zeppelin avoids their 'heavy' sound altogether. Songs like "Friends" and "Gallows Pole" show they can let the hammer drop even with acoustic instruments. "Celebration Day" has an intoxicating thick rubber ball bouncing slide guitar that feels natural alongside their other face-melters from 'Led Zeppelin I' and 'Led Zeppelin II.' I used to think that "Out on the Tiles" was forgettable, but I love opening few seconds where the guitar descends step by step and the drums march like it's a parade on storm. All of this then bleeds into the chorus, easily one of the album's happier moments, second to the chorus of "Celebration Day" in which Robert Plant literally sings about how happy he is. Of course, the best part of the record would be the acoustic songs. "Tangerine" and "That's the Way" beautifully captures innocence and wistfulness in a way that's reminiscent of the final days of summer, when the hot August sun is flat and renders everything in a dappled orange glow leaving you to wish this feeling could go on forever. I know "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" is about Robert Plant's dog, but to me, it contains some of the very best lyrics about the pure bliss you feel in romantic love: "caught you smilin' at me/that's the way it should be." Is there really a better feeling than noticing your partner, the love of your life, your soulmate, beaming as they make eyes at you? In the throes of love, aren't you just begging for opportunities to bring that person up so you can say their name, getting to the point where you're just saying it anyway? ("As I walk down the country lanes, I'll be singing a song, hear me calling your name"). I know it's about a dog! I'll resist the temptation to armchair-psychoanalyze Robert Plant on how he was able to produce such a tender song about a Merle that's fit for a square-dance but not about any human woman. Maybe Led Zeppelin would sound happier ('Houses of the Holy') or more sonically diverse ('Physical Graffiti'). And maybe they would refine their strengths, distill their sound even further, and create their greatest artistic statement ('Led Zeppelin IV'). But in 'Led Zeppelin III,' they proved they were not going to be your average incurious brain-dead blues-based riff-o-rama rock band. If that's too much for you to handle, then I don't know what to tell you. Listen to REO Speedwagon, I guess. Iconic album art. A

I love Led Zeppelin and this album is very nice but because I only really like 3 of the songs from it (the rest are also good but they're not 5-star worthy), I am giving this whole thing a 4, as the best songs are really good and the other ones are nice when they're just playing in the background.

Great, guitars are crazy.

Good album. Change of style...more folky and enjoyable

The first half was really good. But it lost its magic in the next half. "Immigrant Song" will always be my favourite off this album. That was my first Led Zeppelin song. The last track was a rubbish conclusion. 4 stars for "Self Titled III"

I might be holding Led Zeppelin to a higher standard because I was prepared to give this a three star rating compared to albums I and IV. But then I looked back at the other three star reviews I doled out and have to knock this up one. Easy listening acoustic Zep. Foreshadowing Plant's much later work with Krauss?

Some songs I liked on the album: Out on the Tiles, Tangerine, That’s the Way

perhaps this list's biggest problem is the number of repeats there are when there are still so many amazing and artists (especially from africa, Asia and latin America) that are totally unrepresented. this is a pretty good album, but when it's the fifth led zeppelin album on the list and (in my opinion) markedly not as good as the others, it feels like a waste of a spot that could have gone to a band like Amanaz or Yellow Magic Orchestra

A really good album, but the weakest of the first four released by the band. I love Gallows Pole and Tangerine and I like Since I've Been Loving you a lot. I can go either way on the Immigrant Song. From any other band this would probably be a 5 but the rest of their early work is so good, I just can't put this one in that same category.

Wanted to give this a 5 for “Since I’ve Been Loving You” alone (what an incredible performance by the entire band!) but the rest of the album makes this a high 4. Some of the 30s style blues songs were interesting and “The Immigrant Song” is a fun opener but the rest were just not that memorable.

Magnificent!

Really the only song that gets much exposure off this album is Immigrant Song, but it's an interesting album and I'd say I prefer it to II. 4.5/5

Some of this (e.g. the last track) was really quite different to what I expect from Led Zeppelin but I still enjoyed it - perhaps not as much as some of the later stuff though.

AAAaaaaaaaAAAAA

Not as good as their other album we listened to but still great. 4.5

Have always been partial to this album. Has a strong point of view, albeit one that was heavily influenced by American musicians. Still holds up and goes.

1001 Albums Day 6 Another one I find it a bit difficult being objective about, since it's a part of my childhood. Trying to be objective, this album certain has a couple of iconic Led Zep songs, starting off with probably their best opener; Immigrant Song, and further along there's Since I've Been Loving You and Tangerine. The rest of the album are decent, hazy, psych rock deep cuts, decent, but not necessarily some I'll return to all that often. Gallows Pole is a fun reinterpretation of a folk song. That's The Way is a beautiful song about something queer, can't really tell if it's about a gay man or a trans woman, or not queer at all, and just about conservative's fear of the feminization of the hippie movement. And I think that's sort of the point of it, it's a classic, "whatever it means to you" song. But all that being said, there is something about this album that doesn't really excite me. Don't get me wrong it's good, really good, but that's about it, it isn't really exceptional. And a part of me wonders if that is because I have grown accustomed to all Prog albums being concept albums, especially albums of this ilk, era and genre. Though, one of my favourite albums of all time Blackwater Park, is a Prog Metal record that's not a concept album, so I don't know if that holds water. Though, a part of me really is saddened that this is just a collection of songs, no more. In my opinion, probably the second best Led Zeppelin album, (tied with Led Zeppelin II and just behind Led Zeppelin I) but I guess we'll see as this album challenge goes along. Favs: Immigrant Song, Celebration Day, Since I've Been Loving You, Tangerine, That's The Way Least favs: Hats Off To (Roy) Harper 80/100

It’s a high 4 star. A bit more variety and exploration of styles than the other Zep albums, and without the iconic stand out tracks that have lasted the test of time. ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’, ‘Out on the Tiles’ and ‘Tangerine’ are the highlights for me.

Not their best, but gorgeous nonetheless.

Ei lainkaan hassumpi albumi. Parit klassikot ja muita passeleita.

The thing about listening to any Led Zeppelin album is that it makes me want to listen to even more Led Zeppelin albums.

Best Song: Friends Worst Song: Bron-Y-Aur Stomp Kills me to say the Welsh one is the worst song on the album but it's true

It gets 4 stars simply for Immigrant Song, one of the best songs ever. The rest is just so-so bluesy rock.

I would like to go back and give Electric Ladyland a 5

beautiful and i love the cover

Great album. It was a nearly perfect blend of folk, rock, country, and energy that I didn't know existed. I'd never really listened to Led Zeppelin before, mostly because I assumed they were more heavy metal/screamo. I had heard "Going to California" before and loved the song, but knew it wasn't really reflective of the band as a whole, but now that I've listened to an album all the way through it actually hits a lot of the same enjoyments for me. My favorite song from this album was definitely "That's the Way," which in my mind is a song about a summer romance between closeted teens and it's so sweet and sad. The album was closer to a 4.5 for me, but there were a few banjo riffs that took me out of the album's immersion a bit, but overall I was incredibly pleasantly surprised by Led Zeppelin.

It becomes a matter of whether the Zeppelin album gets that extra star to qualify as one of the greats, because it will always be at least a 4.

B+ Immigrant Song 5 Friends 5 Celebration Day 3 Since I've Been Loving You 5 Out On The Tiles 3 Gallows Pole 3 Tangerine 4 That's The Way 3 Bron-Y-Aur Stomp 4 Hats Off To (Roy) Harper 3 This used to be my favorite Zep album. How naive I was. Ha! Alabaster! Call me an Alabastard, more like. Since I've Been Loving You remains my all-time favorite Zep song, however.

Classic from a long time ago. Spreads across a lot of different styles. Recommended

Led Zeppelin III It wasn’t until I got a bit older that I started to appreciate Led Zeppelin, and over the last year or so I have really got into them, particularly Jan and Feb this year when I listened to them A LOT. Their first four albums are truly excellent. LZIII is an interesting one though, a kind of a transition between first 2 more straight ahead rock albums and LZIV’s more mystical, hobbity and instrumentally diverse sound. Ramble On’s acoustic folkiness from LZII seems to be a stepping off point for a lot of what’s on here: Friends, and then the 2nd side, with Gallow’s Pole, Tangerine, That’s the Way, Bron-y-Aur Stomp and Hats Off to Roy Harper. Outside of those, Immigrant Song is an absolute classic, and Celebration Day is just fantastic, the bass in particular is awesome, but I love the slide too. I’m a bit ambivalent on Since I’ve Been Loving You, on the one hand I like the general atmosphere and some of the guitar is great, but it does stray into plodding mindless blues rock a little too much for me. The drumming in Out on the Tiles is superb, which makes sense with the writing credits, it may not be a top tier LZ rocker, but it’s real grower for me. I do love the slightly loose feel compared to I and II, even if there isn’t as much immediacy as those two albums, but in Immigrant Song, Celebration Day and Gallow’s Pole it has 3 of their best songs as well as some great songs like Bron-y-Aur Stomp. I like that they did try and move away from the sound they had established, even if the synthesis of heavy rock and mystical fairies and folk music is probably better realised on IV. As good as it is it is probably a notch below I, II & IV, so in reality a very high 4, but definitely verging on 5. As they are such a great and influential band I’ll judge them to a higher standard and go 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I actually enjoyed this more than I thought, considering I groaned when I saw it generated yesterday morning. Immigrant Song is a high point. Unfortunately, it's at the very beginning of the album, which may have been a critical error because it's all downhill from there. I liked a few other songs, so this is probably closer to a 3.5, but I just can't bring myself to rate it a 4 when I didn't feel that strongly about it.

This is a banger

It doesn't reach the same highs as some of the other Led Zeppelin albums on this list, but it's still consistently very good. Of course Immigrant Song is a classic, and Since I've Been Loving You is another standout. I also love their cover the Yardbirds' Tangerine.

Not one of my favorite zeppelin albums but still pretty good.

Will be coming back to this one

A continuation of the deviation starting with LZII. It’s good, a lot of great tracks but it’s running theme of acoustic and pedal guitars just makes it feel a little too rustic all these years later. Since I been loving you.

Gotta say, Led Zeppelin III as quite the great album. I had heard the intro to Immigrant Song many times in the past but i never knew that song was by these guys and I like the song quite a bit more now due to hearing it's other parts. The other songs on the album were great too all using their guitar work to their fullest potential. The vocals also were really good even if it is something you hear a lot from early metal albums. Some of the songs did get a bit annoying for occasionally overusing the guitars in ways that didn't sound super good but those parts never detracted from the album too much and because of that, its still great. Best Song: Tangerine Worst Song: Hats off To (Roy) Harper

Second half dropped the ball

Solid album and i'd probably put it at 4.5

I had never sat down to listen to this album, but somehow I knew all the songs. It's what you would expect heavy rock mixed with the blues.

My least favourite out of the four self-titled albums but my no means a bad one The folk-ier tracks were all great and actually help this album stand out from the other four by adding a bit of variety to the mix Also, Immigrant Song still sounds as epic as it was when I first heard it and deserves to remain as of Zep’s most popular tunes Favourite tracks: Immigrant Song, Since I’ve Been Loving You, Gallows Pole, Tangerine

Classic rock is classic.

Love this album. Don’t think I’ve actually listened to it from start to finish. It’s Better than I expected. There were like 1-2 songs that I wanted to skip, but other than that a pretty clean album. Great start with immigrant song.

Immigrant Song is a favorite of mine. They just go so hard with that driving beat. The blues influence is heavy here, at times soaked in some fine acid, and always blowing out those speakers. I can see why they're such a big influence on everyone. The screaming is a bit much after a while. Definitely have to be partaking in some chemical enhancers to really go on this trip 😂

It's good. I like the psychedelic inspiration it clearly drew from.

I love Led Zeppelin, and I get they’re a rock band, but when they do a song that puts the roll in “rock and roll” like Since I’ve Been Loving You and Tangerine on this album, it just comes together perfectly

The end is very folk and definitely drags a little but still a very good record the beginning is extremely high energy and very hard rock

Pretty decent actually! Guitar sounds great. Very long songs but I do not mind it. 3.5/4!

Tangerine wow

Just gets better and better every song.

very great tunes tangerine is jus great, not all songs are my fav but really good .

Some classic stuff, occasionally feels like a glorified garage jam band though.

Immigrant Song is a great start to the album. Such a banger, and my favorite. I love the music on Friends, but his voice doesn't go well with it. There's a heavy Blues element on this album, particularly on Since I've Been Loving You. Mars Volta has drawn influence from this one, no doubt. There's bluegrass and country on this album, too. Extremely diverse record. My favorite record from them is Houses of the Holy followed by Physical Graffiti, but this one ranks III for me.

The mighty Led Zeppelin. They always bring a smile to my face. I know a lot of songs on this album through listening to them on compilations. I did like this album and for me it's tough to go wrong with Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that upon first hearing them as a 14 year old in the 90s I automatically liked what I heard. John Paul Jones and John Bonham are two of my all time favorite drum and bass duos. They are up there with Aston and Carlton Barrett, Flea and Chad Smith, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, Chris Squire and Bill Bruford, Geddy and Neil, Les Claypool and Brain. I spent countless hours trying to learn Led Zeppelin songs on my bass. Sometimes I was successful other times not. The guy puts on a clinic in so many of his songs. I am probably biased on this one because Led Zeppelin is probably one of my top 20 bands. This album is good. Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that can weave in and out of genres yet still be themselves. That is what I hear on this one. 'Immigrant Song' is a juggernaut. 'Out on the Tiles' is one I hadn't really listened to much and I will be adding it to my Likes on Spotify. Bonham is relentless on it. I dug the strings on Friends.

Love Led Zeppelin, great album Top tracks: Immigrant Song, Since I’ve Been Loving You, Gallows Pole, Tangerine, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp

Admittedly I probably have a classic rock bias, so I may rate this one a bit higher than it's worth but it's an enjoyable listen. Out on the Tiles was a surprise standout. 7.5/10 (3.75/5)

What an opener Then a settling, soft side As rock bleeds to folk

What an opening Immigrant Song is. So many of these songs I rarely hear, like Out on the Tiles, but are great.

This is classically good. They have a great sound that is very distinct and bluesy….and very much rock.

For once, a classic I thoroughly enjoyed !

a couple songs that I really enjoyed on here--Immigrant Song & Since I've Been Loving You--the others didn't stand out as much. They were just your typical Zep sound.

One the greatest classics. May test the changing tastes over time.

Rock on. Great licks and psychedelic sounds.

Excellent album. Definitely some songs I knew, but I thought they were all pretty good.

Musta been ahead of its time because it’s better now than it was in the 70s. This album is tucked in between II and IV so didn’t get much play at our house (other than Immigrant Song - we would play that one frequently.) Who’s listening to III when ya can listen to IV? We did love the Huusker -Du cover (which may in fact be why this album makes the 1001 list.) Solid album with a lot of variety in songs (3.6*s)

This album is often overlooked due to Led Zeppelin's other massive hits but it deserves a serious re-listen (LZ fan or not). It's the most varied in style and the song "Tangerine" truly belongs on their top list. The blues vibe and build up on "Since I've Been Loving You" is so good you're just dripping in emotion by the end of it. I also really dug the more acoustic and folksy songs on this album that I previously forgot about. You can feel the passion throughout. This is real music people.

Let's go! Get the Led out. This album shows the range and talent of this monster band. With how much great music they have, this album doesn't stand at the top but it is strong none the less. Starts you right out on an epic viking journey to Valhalla and then sends you through a more mellow, instrumenatlly rich, song romp. Plant sounds great. Love the album cover as well...husker du style.

Increasingly aware that I don’t know any language to describe music so Im confident no one can disagree when I say this is a classic because of all the good noises

An absolute classic album, cementing Zeppelin as the monolith of 70’s rock!

Never heard this album- knew some songs ( Immigrant Song, Gallows Pole, Since Ive been loving you). Just love the flow and all the songs are great. They are known for rocking out but the ballads are just next level. Totally awesome.

- immigrant song most recognizable (thanks school of rock) - friends has a damn good guitar riff (wtf are those synths) - since i've been loving you has the best guitar solo so far - tf is going on in gallow's pole - tangerine > immigrant song - 4/5, last 2 tracks are skippable

Great album through and through. Probably my 4th or 5th favorite Led Zeppelin album, and I guess I'll reserve 5s for my top 3. 4.5

Rock de Led Zeppelin. Un megahit. Un 4.

Not my favorite from them, but it has great quality!

Immigrant song is really really good but otherwise it falls behind 2 and 4. Overall it is a good album though.

This isn't my favourite Zeppelin album but partway through I had to remind myself to hear it as an album in its own right. Great vocals, great guitar work, great drums. They had some better before this and got better after but if it was another bad, this could easily be their best album and they'd be known for a reason.

A couple of great track's, but not their best. I find the Blues has the most connection emotionally when it feels raw. Just a person's voice and an acoustic guitar. Led Zeppelin takes that sound and fills it out really well but it becomes something else. Some of the sound on this album comes closer to ACDC. At times knowing they are from London, this comes close to feeling like parody of music from the Southern States. The final track I would say maybe goes a bit too far.

Good shit

Otros discos de 1970: THE KINKS- Lola versus Powerman and the moneygoround, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL - Cosmo's factory y Pendulum, VAN MORRISON - Moondance, THE STOOGES - Fun house, THE DOORS - Morrison hotel, NEIL YOUNG - After the gold rush, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND - Loaded, BADFINGER - No dice, GEORGE HARRISON - All things must pass, FLAMIN' GROOVIES - Flamingo, IKE & TINA TURNER - Come together, ERIC BURDON & WAR - The Black-Man's Burdon, MC5 - Back in the USA, DAVID BOWIE - The man who sold the world, WILLIE DIXON - I am the blues, FLYING BURRITO BROS - Burrito Deluxe, SANTANA- Abraxas, Miles Davis- Bitches brew, Simon and Grafunkel- Bridge over Troubled Water, SIXTO RODRIGUEZ- Cold fact, THE SOFT MACHINE -III, JJ PERREY- Moog Indigo, THE WHO- Live at Leeds... y debuts de Elton John y Kraftwerk.

This is definitely a classic album. I grew up listening to this album. Immigrant song has so much amazing energy behind, but on the flip side it’s a little misleading because no other song on the album really matched that level of energy. Either way, these guys were amazing musicians.

Starting the record with the Immigrant Song is a sure fire winner - and the rest of the record that follows is actually a gentle subtle set of songs — that make this record one of their best in my opinion.

So far I’ve found that, although Led Zep’s numerous big hits are naturally the high points of their albums, the supporting tracks are usually decent enough to make the LPs as a whole pretty damn solid. And so it is here. The amped-up first half is stronger pound-for-pound but the mostly acoustic second half is nice too, and provides welcome variety.

Can't get the Led out no matter how hard you try

Another album recorded at the historic Headley Grange, this record opens up with track 1 hard driving and exactly how you would expect it to based on their earlier work. Then it takes a turn, a very interesting one. This album ranks somewhere between 3rd and 5th for me personally among Zep’s full catalogue, depending on my mood. This work really displays a deeper side of the group as musicians, and in terms of ideas and production. It doesn't have all the flashy hits, but it is a pivotal work in its own right; and best experienced complete - front to back IMO. Perfect placement of several LZ songs within the “Almost Famous” soundtrack, including two from these sessions. Other interesting notes are some of the left over songs from these sessions ended up on Physical Graffiti, and the “B” side of the “Immigrant Song” single was “Hey Hey What can I do” which was not released on a studio album and retrospect would not have necessarily fit with this grouping. Kind of genius in the way they lure you in with one track of what would be expected and change lanes. It’s only a 5 point scale so I’ll call this a strong 4.25 to leave room for what is to come later. 4.25/5

I love LZ, but LZIII isn’t among my faves and always fell like a bit of a lull in an otherwise stellar catalog. Just too much slide guitar, kick drum and banjo (really any banjo is sub-optimal). I don’t think this album really highlights why they were so amazing, but still a great album.

„Since I‘ve been Loving You“ ist der beste Titel, gefolgt von „Celebreation Day“ & „Gallows Pole“. Interessant ist wie die Band in „Hats of To (Roy) Harper“ einen uralten Blues-Song aufpimpt.

Good, especially the start

Another very solid, almost perfect Zeppelin album. It's nice to hear a little more acoustic songs on this album, which probably has turned some off in the past. I love the mix of heavy, folk, and blues all represented on the album. They show more breadth on this album. Favorite tracks: Immigrant Song, Celebration Day, Since I've Been Loving You, Out On the Tiles, Gallows Pole, Tangerine, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp.

Good album

Epic classic rock!

You can't give this album a bad review as Led Zeppelin are such a highly acclaimed rock band. For me personally I wasn't so keen but my views do not represent popular concensus in any way.

❤️

Classic but played the fuck out

Nunca fallan

I have heard this album before and listen to a lot of Led Zeppelin’s music. This album has a lot of great songs that I immediately recognize so it makes for a great listen. My favorite tracks are: Immigrant Song, Since I’ve been loving you, and Tangerine. It’s already in my playlist so definitely listening again!

Yea…no thanks

The first Led Zeppelin album I ever bought. They were never top-tier for me, but that's personal. The talent, still, is obvious.

Masterpiece

3-4 very good songs but overall not a favorite

Fun rock album with several catchy songs.

Good length for an album, not too long, not too short. Songs are unique.

7/10 Only heard the big LZ songs before, not much of a fan So this surprised me - much less hard rock than I expected. Actually liked it Musically I get it now - I can hear the quality and influence they had. I can hear aspects in groups that I like But the vocals don’t do it for me at all. Do t like that style, don’t like a guy from the Midlands singing like a Deep South blues guy So despite this having 2 of my least liked things - hard rock vocals and bluesy American rock style - this was decent Best: Gallows Pole

Not connecting with this one all that much. A few song tracks but the rest aren't sticking with me as much. Somewhere between a 3 and 4 for me.

I’m a Zeppelin fan but this is not my favorite of their albums, so not a 5. But even my least favorite Zeppelin album is more musically complex than most anything I hear on the radio these days. Genius musicians.

Great album, reminds me of taking the bus to middle school and jack black in his brown school of rock van. Classic.

I assume this is the first of a few Led Zeppelin’s albums that will be on this list. While not particularly my favorite in their catalogue, it’s still great. The unique sound and genre blending style of LZ has always been my draw to them and this album was no different. Great to get one within the first 10 albums.

Not what I was expecting from Led Zeppelin, but pretty good none the less

2-29-2024 I didn't realize that Immigrant song was the first track. I started listening from the playlist that Sarah made for this sharing experience. I thought I clicked on the first led zep song but I hit the second. I really like Friends. Sarah mentioned Tangerine. It was easy to listen to multiple times consecutively. It seems short. The intro instrumentals fade from memory once they're over. They aren't bad they just ...I donno get left in the past. I started listening to DJ Shadow again after this. Also, this is a pretty good listen. The guitars are almost intimidating though. Like, dayum!...

This album is great. There are some duds in the tracklist (Out on the Tiles, That's the Way, and Hats Off) but out of 10 songs that's still 3.5/5 hits. I'll be generous and round up. 4/5.

Excellent, classic Led Zeppelin!!!

Pretty good. This album sounded fresher and more interesting than I thought it would given Zep’s heavy rotation/exposure the past few decades.

A bit of a folk-y departure for the Zep. Some really good, intricate songs and a few expected audio assaults.

Very good

Favorites: Immigrant Song Since I’ve Been Loving You Gallows Pole Tangerine That’s the Way (!!!)

Not my favorite album but it’s Zeppelin.

Enjoy everything besides hats off to harper

Favourite tracks: immigrant song; tangerine; since I've been loving you; celebration day; gallow's pole

Great record but the 2nd side is not as convincing as the beginning of the record.

Some of the lesser known songs are pretty good like Tangerine and That's the Way. I've heard the popular songs tons of times.

It's Led Zeppelin. It's 3 of the best best 4 albums.

This started strong, and I really enjoyed it. I think I'd rank it higher than two but around the same as four

Is it a hot take to say Led Zeppelin III is the best of the numbered Led Zeppelin albums? Because it absolutely is and I don't think it's particularly close, even with an entirely skippable song in "Friends"

*sighing heavily* I do think I like the Karen O version of "Immigrant Song" better.

Immigrant Song song is a pretty epic opener, but it's been driven into the ground. 3 is really where they started to get more weird with it beyond their blues licks. Friends is great string and percussion arrangements. Since I Been Loving You is a top 5 Zeppelin song. Lots more folk and americana influence (Gallows Pole, That's the Way, Bron-Y-Aur stomp).

couple snoozers keep it from a 5 but zep good

Love it. Didn't know the album as a while but knew a bunch and in general very good album

Best likely described as Zeppelins folk album. The blues numbers aren't quite turned up to 11 like the remainder of their catalog and several songs feature picks and runs similar to traditional music from the British Isles, later finding itself in Americana and even bluegrass. Zeppelin has a loving sloppiness to their sound: clean enough to impress but off enough to be human. They come off as too cool to care in those instances. Bonham and JPJ are easily in my top 5 rhythm sections as they so cleanly build grooves with Bonham's brutal attack on the drums and JPJ cleanly driving the band forward. Even in what might be their least heavy album, that pocket still carries. Plant, prior to the full tilt destruction and remodel of his voice, was (and still is) a special treat. LZ was always destined to be a live human blues jukebox but the things they insert and add into that repertoire are what made them great. Immigrant Song stands out. The most brazenly Led Zeppelin track and the oft used in movies and commercials (rightfully so if you want a track that drives energy). After that though the album, as said earlier, calms down. Since I've been loving you and Gallows Pole perfectly represent the ability of the band to both imitate traditional music and then rearrange, respectfully. My personal preference is That's The Way. Hindsight being 20/20, by the end of III, you know IV is coming. You hear it throughout the album, you heard traces of it on the previous albums. Part of an incredible run of albums.

Starts with a bang!, rock Songs gid, slow songs meh

This album is fantastic. I love the instrument variety compared to LED Zepplin 1 & 2. The ringing acoustics and blue grass esque sounds are awesome. I really like the songs Tangerine and celebration day. 4.16

Not a lot of thoughts. I hoped it would be a good listen and it was.

I liked the acoustic songs like tangerine

Ooh I liked this!! Since I've Been Loving You is amazing, and the other song that stood out to me on an early listen was Tangerine. Great album!

It's a classic for a reason!

Love a couple of tracks; overall like this album very much

Listened to this while playing ISS Vanguard. I won my mission! I didn't think I knew any of these songs, but after 8 seconds, I was corrected...ha ha. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would...a very low 4.

Some of my absolute faves in here, but sprinkled with some just alright ones

The beginning of Zeppelin's peak. Staying in their blues-y hard rock pocket while venturing into folk territory that they would become known for. Every track on the album is at least enjoyable, while some of their best can be found on this album as well. Sequencing on this album is interesting. Their harder, more energetic tracks are all on the first side, and the latter half slowly winds down and gives us a nice collection of acoustic tracks. This album runs the full gambit of Zeppelin sounds. It has a bit of what they brought with I and II, and a good sampling of what would be coming in the future. While not the best they have to offer, It still stands above most of the rock that was being put out at the time.

It is not my favorite Zeppelin album but I cannot give them less than four stars.

Definitely a classic. A bluesy rock album, with guitar riffs quintessential to the time period, and keyboard lines that give the vibe of an American tent-revival. It's not hard to see why this is an album beloved by so many.

4.5 Love this album just not zeppelins best

The album gets off to a great start but can't keep up the pace. Overall it's a good album.

another set of bangers. I think the obvious issue with this band is how much their songs feel the same. It's not bad if you like them, but if you expect something more or don't like them, it's a big problem

Outstanding rock album. Blasts into you with Immigrant Song and doesn't let up.

yup. good album

Definite departure from their prior, more rock-forward albums. Gallows Pole is one of my all time favorites, though I do get a little bit tired by the end of the folk acousticness

After immigrant song, it's just acoustic blues! I wasn't expecting that!

Enjoyed finding out more about Led Zeppelin's music.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard the Immigrant Song. 50 years later I started to use it as a personal ringtone. Would’ve used it more but I t’s a little bit unprofessional in the business world.

Good. Not perfect.

Approx. 47 mins. High energy, lyrically compelling. Considered the original arena rock band and backed up by the sound. Their lyrics show a down-to-earth-ness I wasn't expecting. (7/10)

Incredible, much heavier than I remember...

Really really good. But not as good as II. Immigrant song gets a star all on it’s on!!!!

Led Zeppelin is fine. They're a little more bluesy than I remembered but they've never been my particular taste. They're fine! Just not for me.

4.0 stars Favourite songs: - Immigrant Song - Out on the Tiles - Tangerine

Hadn't listened to Zep in year.

I like the variety of sounds from heavy rock to blues to traditional English tunes. And there’s a song about a border collie! ❤️ I’ve always liked Plant’s voice, especially in lower registers. The last song about shooting a black wiman and comparing himself to a monkey — hard pass

Some great songs. Last one is odd.

Immigrant song!

Great Folksy rock!

Good album that is an interesting ride. It starts off amazing, then ebbs and flows into various genres. Definitely a good listen, but not my favorite Led Zeppelin album.

Led Zeppelin III is an awesome album. Puts the rock in rock n' roll.

Pretty sick

4.4/5 The overuse of Immigrant Song in popular culture/media has made me so sick of it god damn. Best Track: Tangerine

First half was pretty normal Led Zeppelin but I really loved the folky stuff they did on the second half. It was a cool variation on their usual stuff. Favorites were Immigrant Song and Bron-Y-Aur Stomp

A lot let hard core than i expected. Just good vibe

I mean, it's Led Zeppelin. Still personally prefer 2 and 4.

Great stuff. I like IV better, but this still has some great songs and a killer first track.

I love every track except Hats Off To Roy Harper.

was always a "led zeppelin are a hits band" until I listened to this. The songs are all very different. Its a great album.

Great album. Have listened to it multiple times previously

Zeppelin 3 is my least favourite of their first 4 but this one is still solid. Can’t disagree with a record that has Immigrant Song and Celebration Song. Zeppelin II remains my favourite. I have always found it so off putting that Plant frequently refers to the woman he’s singing to as a ‘child’. Rolling Stones do it too.

Nerds have been trying to ruin this for me for as long as I can remember.

Lots of great moments

i liked the range on the album- hard rock to more chill to even like folkish stuff. i really liked “that’s the way.” i almost was going to give it 3 because the guy’s yelling voice is so annoying, but it was creative and well written so it gets a 4.

I really enjoyed this album, with a nice start of metal intensity, but fades into a more folk-acoustic style. Very well done (except for the outro). Favorite songs: Out on the tiles, Immigrant song Least favorite: Hats off to Roy Harper

I just realized I’m a full year behind schedule regarding this list. By now I just hope to finish it this year, but at least with this one, I just finished Zeppelins original tetralogy. I really like this album but have the same opinion as almost everyone: it is inferior than the other three. And maybe also Houses of the Holy, nevertheless, it is a solid 4 stars.

In the land of tired classic rock, this is a breath of fresh air. Love the folksy bluesy do waps

A Classic of the genre. Not their best, but damn near.

led peppelin. dumbass name... alkanu huomaa, huomaa stailistisia päätöksiä mitä on näissä eri albumeissa.. erottelua helpommin. ensimmäinen on klassista rokkia toinen haard rokkia ja kolmannen albumin teema on PASKAA. PASKAMUSIIKKIA.. heh vähiten tykätyin neppelin tähän mennessä. en ole mikään dick rider... protesti nelonen Since I've Been Loving You

Probably my third favorite Zeppelin album, but that’s mostly on the strength of Tangerine. There’s a lot better Zeppelin out there

I didn’t like this as much as the other Led Zeppelin album I was served, but it was still enjoyable. Although it started off very strong with Immigrant Song, the other tracks couldn’t quite reach that height.

I mean- it’s zeppelin!

Lively, catchy parts, great musicianship

This one has grown on me

Still sounds fresh

I like Immigrant Song well enough, probably out of familiarity. I really like the guitar/melody on Friends. And I’m pleasantly surprised by a few other songs: the blues influence on Since I’ve Been Loving You, though ultimately it goes on a bit too long, the traditional folk song Gallows Pole, the bluegrass guitar on Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, and Tangerine! That’s the way!! Wow! Definitely my favorites. I’m shocked that I'm actually enjoying a Led Zeppelin album. But I still can’t get past Robert Plant’s screamy voice. As much as I like - love, actually, Tangerine, That’s the Way, and Bron-Y-Aur Stomp - I think I would vastly prefer cover versions. Nonetheless, I’m giving this a 4 for the surprise factor.

Classic

Not their best work but still a great album. Not a fan of these remastered versions TBH

Wow! For as long as I can remember I've been very vocal about Led Zeppelin being overrated, for nerds and very uncool. How wrong was I? This was absolutely superb. I couldn't believe how varied this album was, I thought it would just be endless guitar noodling and strained singing a la Whole Lotta Love. That's The Way in particular is so delicate and might be crashing straight into my favourite songs list.

They took a turn away from blues and into folk and it works. Not as adventurous as what they would later do, but good all the same.

This is exactly what i Imagined Led Zeppelin to sound like. Not disappointed.

An oft-held discussion among music nerds: singles that should have been on the parallel album. Why wasn’t “Strawberry Fields Forever” on Sgt. Pepper? Why didn’t The Rolling Stones include “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” anywhere, or The Who “Join Together”? If ever the topic comes up, I will never resist chiming in with Led Zeppelin. On 5th November 1970, the band released “Immigrant Song”, the lead single from their much anticipated third album. As a first impression, it’s a textbook act of misdirection, suggesting an aggressive hard-rock angle that the rest of the album soon abandons for an expanded palette of folk, blues and country. But on the B-side of “Immigrant Song” was a much clearer indication of the full record, and one of the best songs Led Zeppelin ever made. “Hey, Hey What Can I Do” is a perfect pop-folk-rock track, underplayed and underrated: I’m using this review as an opportunity to tell you to go and listen to it right now. It is an absolute CRIME it was not included here. Remove the baffling, anticlimactic ending track “Hats Off to (Roy) Harper”, add in “Hey, Hey What Can I Do” in its place and the album would have been an easy five stars, up there with the band’s best work. But as it is, I can’t shake the sourness I feel towards them for ending on such a damp squib instead. Now that’s off my chest, I can say that I still like “Led Zeppelin III” a fair bit more than the average Zep fan: I appreciate them expanding their range, and the acoustic folk ballads are executed with just as much skill and panache as the rock and blues template established so firmly in the first two albums. “Gallow’s Pole” has always been a firm favourite for its slow creep approach, building pace up to a frantic finale (and exceptional banjo work from Jimmy Page). “Tangerine” is a gorgeous ballad which has clear seeds of “Stairway To Heaven”’s arpeggios and chord progressions. “That’s the Way” is lovely too, with a tenderness to Plant’s vocals and lyricism we’d scarcely seen before. And while “Led Zeppelin III” certainly showcases more acoustic work than the band had done before, it also isn’t the massive, out-of-left-field tonal shift most listeners suggest it is. There’s a clear through-line from adapting the traditional folk ballad “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” to “Gallow’s Pole”; the deft, open-tuned acoustic guitars of “Black Mountain Side” to those on “That’s the Way”; the rhythmic drive of “Ramble On” to “Friends”. And then there’s “Immigrant Song”, “Celebration Day” and “Out on the Tiles”, which are just as fierce as anything on the first two albums with a little more of a melodic side. And of course, the centrepiece of “Since I’ve Been Loving You”: hard-edged, soulful blues brilliance with the whole band on top form. In my early days of Led Zeppelin fandom, I used to swear by the opinion that III and “Houses of the Holy” were their best albums. I don’t entirely believe this any more: I can accept that III doesn’t possess the rough and ready rage of I, the flawless confidence of II, or the blockbuster behemoths of IV. But I will always call “Led Zeppelin III” a wonderful album, and a critical step in the band’s evolution. Shame there’s no “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do” though…

Actually like it better than IV

Really and iconic album but only has one real banger on it. Immigrant Song is overwhelmingly great! What I hadn’t notice when I’d listened to this album in the past is the poignant and thoughtful lyrics throughout. A very good album!

Favourite songs: Immigrant Song, Gallows Pole, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Out on the Tiles, Tangerine, Celebration Day Least favourite songs: Hats Off To (Roy) Harper 4/5

really sick album, straight up blues, sick acoustics, but I really don't like the song Friends, it's way to dissonant and out of place for no reason

I can see why people who were waiting for a new Zeppelin record at the time were maybe disappointed as this does stray further from their sound into what the sound would become in the latter years. A lot of heavy blues and folk influences on this one as we journey through many genres. That being said, it's still very much instantly recognizable as a Zeppelin record so I can't imagine any die hard fans being too upset. Not their best work by far, but shows a lot of growth in the band and willingness to explore. Standout Tracks: Immigrant Song, Tangerine, That's the Way, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp

pretty cool

You know, for many years I’ve been going around saying that Led Zeppelin III is my favourite Led Zeppelin. It DOES contain my top two favourite Led Zeppelin songs - Tangerine and Since I’ve Been Loving You. But sitting down for this challenge and listening to this the whole way through…. it’s a much weaker album than I remembered it being. Especially the last track, what a crappy way to finish the record off. Anyway. I still like it. Just not as much as I thought I did.

4/5 I’ve never really listened to Zeppelin before, and I’m pleasantly surprised.
