Reviews (page 12 of 14)

Good composition skill. It is interesting that the human mind can at times find a repetitive sound soothing like staring into fire. This album does what it does well. I personally would feel ripped off if I bought this in 1998 based on one single. I'm on some night time cold medicine listening to this and the two do not mix. booty must be dead

Nice and chill and fun

This was everywhere at the time got a too much radio play. To me at the time it was the gentrification of the dance scene, pop ready songs that Zoe ball amd all those radio 1 wankers could bang on about, safe rave. Still many years later the album is on the whole mainly disapointimg and much bettrr edm out there, there are some good tunes like right here right now. But if i hear praise you one more time ill be a little sick.

This was so ubiquitous that it came close to capturing a joyous collective dance experience. That moment has passed and now it's just mostly annoying, especially as an album.

Not my thing. That stupid rockafeller song really brings it down and the rest of it isn't much better or even worse.

Not as annoying as some electronic albums but still annoying!

Mostly instrumental beats, recognized several songs

I have to criticize you like I should. One bonus star for two undeniably iconic tracks, otherwise pretty unlistenable.

Dude does not know how to end a song

Dear lord that was annoying to listen to

25% music video nostalgia bliss 25% pump me the fuck up dance music 50% “hey, want to hear the most annoying sound in the world?”

Repetitive. Opener is good along with hits. Final rank after finish. Just not my cup of tea.

I like Praise You and that’s it really

Dance music. Fun to dance to but boring and repetitive to just listen to.

Thoughts before listening: I remember this being huge. I wasn't into the electronic/dance scene back in the 90s and I doubt I'll be into this today either. Review: Yeah this isn't for me. Repetitive and nothing is really drawing my attention. I'm sure this is fun music to dance to at a festival or something, but its just not something I'm interested in listening to sitting here at my desk this morning. I added "Rockefeller Skank" and "Praise You" to my playlist as a nice reminder that this existed, but otherwise I have little interest. 2-stars

Peak Big Beat. For good and (mostly) for bad

The point for me of listening to and reviewing these 1001 albums is multitudinous: It makes me think about music in a thoughtful way that I can write about, it exposes me to things I haven't heard, and it reminds me of things I've heard but have forgotten about. Having said that, some genres of music and specifically, some albums, just remind a person of things that are so deeply ingrained that it's impossible to hear them in a fair or clear context. I was at the height of my indie record store employee snobbery when this came out and I hated everything about it and I dismissed it as techno garbage. I've since learned how the songs were assembled via vinyl samples on floppy disks fed through an old Atari computer and I think that's pretty cool but it's still too repetitive and amphetamine spazz out for me though. More than anything though it's just boring. And in keeping with my aforementioned snobbery: DJ Shadow does it better. Way better.

Appreciate the classics, but my days was this a tedious and boring listen. All the songs should be cut in half.

Too much filler. This should’ve been an EP.

Some very cool songs on this album, but I'm not feeling it today.

I'm actually surprised by how many of these songs i already know. Like if you'd asked me this morning to name a Fatboy Slim song I don't think I could have done it, and yet... These songs are sooo long and sooo repetitive. I'm not really a fan of it. Maybe in smaller doses, but as a full album it got old pretty quickly. My reaction when the last song ended was "thank God that's over".

Couple good tracks but not all are winners and overall it became very repetitive.

Very electronic background, mostly loop based, funky 90s feel. Not the best music I've heard from him. Similar to chemical Brothers in style.

55% Best: Right Here, Right Now; Gangster Trippin; Praise You Must-Hear? No

In times of great stress, I repeat the same phrase over and over to myself until the utter monotony calms me. No more need for that - I can just play this album.

This was very dated and very repetitive. Not for me.

annoying

Every track is way too long for the content. Can only see this being interesting if you're on drugs.

This might be the first metal album I've listened to all the way through. I don't know if I like it because it's actually good or if it's just very tolerable as far as metal (almost metal pop with a little prog)

I feel as if my intelligence is being insulted and my tastes in music are mocked. Basically, Fat Boy Slim was to the 2000"s what Herbie Hancock was to the 80"s. That's not a compliment.

Not as fun as I remembered

Not my jam.

I was glad it ended 1.5 rounded up

Loop much?

Elektro pur. Nicht schlecht aber ohne vocals

Ummm, well I recognized some songs, but this was way too repetitive for my taste.

First listen. Meh.

Correcto

kinda boring YNN

This was not what I expected. Its not rap. Its "Electronica." I guess that means it was made on a computer because that's what it sounds like. If Max Headroom made an album, it would sound like this. The sound is good and was even enjoyable.....for a short time. I even recognized some of the songs. But it was incredibly repetitive in the most headache inducing way. It de-de-de-de-de-deserves deserves deserves a 2.

I feel like I’m playing that ice sledding game in Club Penguin Iiin in heaven is kinda good & catchy, still feel like I’m playing club penguin, this time the disco game Praise you is a hidden gem in this mumble jumble stuff Good fun beats to dance to while I wait for my pot of water to boil

Just way too repetitive.

Just not for me

way too annoying for such a long album. rockafeller skank was iconic though

Why in God's name are these songs 6 minutes long?

Not a fan

I have never listened to Fatboy Slim. — I listened to Fatboy Slim. I will not listen to Fatboy Slim again.

This is an album made for annoying white dads who say they like funk and then put this on. Culturally appropriative and didn’t even do it well but let me be FRANK: Rockefeller shank goes crazy

Iconic. I think I'm having a flashback. Unfortunately it's not lasting nearly long enough and the filler in this album is a little dull. The mid-album tracks are... What's a nice way to say dull and repetitive. Fatboy Sim is not for albums. I skipped large parts of many tracks, positive I want missing anything. I have positive memories of Praise You, which is a standout track for me along with Rockafeller Skank. Four stars for those, but two for the rest, two for the rest, two for the rest, two for the rest...

POV: me and the boys carpooling to the mall in 6th grade to go rizz up girls from school. No really, this album is very cringe. I already had the hit “praise you” saved previously- and I can see why I never gave the rest the light of day. This sounds like some montage a kid would make over cod zombies on vine. Gangster Trippin’ is actually fire too though, I will give them that. I don’t know if I’ll ever be in the mood to listen again tbh.

As I started listening I thought this was going to be pretty good but it went downhill very quickly. So repetitive, etc. Giving it a 2 only because of song "Praise You"

It’s really good in small doses, but an album full of it is just too much for me. He does go on a bit doesn’t he? Throwing any Fat Boy Slim track on at a wedding disco is fine with me. Always gets the drunk aunties up dancing.

I wonder what possessed me to buy this. Was it because of the singles? Was it because I picked up the wrong CD? For whatever reason, I did. Anyway, the singles are ok the rest is toilet. 2

Quite annoying to listen to and it’s super long but it’s better when you don’t think about it. It’s background party music for many I’m sure but definitely not for me.

Overplayed and just horrible earworms now not even sure I liked it in its heyday

Mmm yeah okay I guess. Some are nice some aren't

Too repetitive for me

not bad, not my thing at all

Yeah no

**not my cup of tea, no real music, just noises and rap

I'm not sorted for E's and Wizz, so this album is about four times too long. Some good work but just so repetitive. Works in a rave but not anywhere else.

Couple of hits are sentimental just because of where I was in my life when they came out, but otherwise, sadly kind of boring. Nice as background music.

Other than one or 2 good songs the rest is just too repetitive and too much swearing. I don't mind a song that cusses but there has to be a point to it snd not just cussing for the sake of cussing

The album starts off strongly with the first two tracks; however, both are a minute or two longer than they should be. After that, it takes a significant downturn. I have to question who approved the inclusion of "Fucking in Heaven"—it's truly awful. The rest of the album is ok, and "Praise You" somewhat redeems its score. Unfortunately, many of the songs become repetitive very quickly, which could have been avoided by making them all shorter. One final point. How did he know I'm not from Brighton?

A couple of bangers, but album goes on for far too long.

Very repetitive

I have to praise you like I shouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuld. This song has lived in my head, rent free, since 1998.

Liked certain bits but not my thing really on a whole. Ended up skipping a couple of tracks. Went on a bit

I don't have to love everything.

Quintessential 90s movie/show music.

I learned that the lyric is “the funk soul brother” and not “the funk’s yo’ brother” like I thought it was. And that it is repeated 64 times in the song. Props for several mainstream hits on this but I can barely make it through a full song much less a whole album.

I suffered through this. Bonus star for Ganster Trippin, which tripped me down memory lane to being 13 and thinking it was great. Also when I hear Fat Boy Slim I see in my mind Christopher Walken dancing. But this shit is obnoxious. Repetitive, grating, juvenile in all the worst ways. I’d have to do a mountain of ecstasy to get in this groove; even then I’d want something less idiotic.

Never heard this one. Tbh when I saw it I first thought “ I’m gonna hate it “ but I was wrong. And I realize now that I’ve been narrow minded with music. Or I mean I only listened to a handful of artists at any given time and so I’m SO APPRECIATIVE of this site ) Favorites: Right Here Right Now. The Rockefeller Skank In Heaven. Dammit totally ruined my vibe that I had going on !!!’ No matter the meaning of the song, those two words together in a sentence. Just , no. love most of the rest , though. Love to listen to this with earbuds in the library and bop around maniacally like I do. That part is a lot of fun!!

Hit hard, hit fast, left fast. He will forever be why I hate club DJ's.

If "The Rockefeller Skank" wasn't on here, it would be a 1. This album is practically unlistenable as it is annoying. That one song is good but that's it, everything else is god awful.

You know, with the exception of the Rolling Stones, every artist so far to give me multiple albums has been one that I had a pretty positive opinion of from the first album of theirs that I listened to. Even then, I knew that I would eventually find a Rolling Stones album I cared about, and I was right. I did not care for my first Fatboy Slim album, if you can call it that. I myself refer to it is a collection of random beats. However, I have seen more praise for You've Come a Long Way, Baby than that other one. So, do I care for this album more than the first? Well, I do, but only by a tiny margin. I really just don't think I care about Fatboy Slim. Is he talented at making beats? Sure, I guess. I just don't feel anything when listening to this. There's enough substance here for me to actually call this one an album, but not enough for me to like it. The added words make the album feel more complete, but they're so repetitive that it doesn't really matter. There's some okay songs on here. I thought "Praise You" was pretty solid. Other songs just aren't fun to listen to. That third song really made me want to fucking-fucking-fucking-fucking end it all right there. I don't really care at all about this album or artist, and I'm happy to say that Fatboy Slim doesn't have any more on the list. 2/5.

The sampling and chopping is great fun, but it gets tired pretty quickly.

When I was in college, the web cartoon Homestar Runner was huge. In one episode, Strong Bad creates an electronic music song and explains that every techno song has one random sentence that just repeats over and over for now reason. That’s what this whole album is.

I bet this album was cool when he played the songs live at a 90's rave and everyone was rolling their faces off.

Der er nogen kæmpe bangere her på men det var også lidt trættende i længden

Shot out to WBCN If you took out all the repetition on this album, the playing time would be 46 seconds. I danced once, reminisced twice. And got bored by the repetitive nature of it all. You don't NEED to hear one Fatboy Slim album (maybe a few songs, but aside from that), let alone 2 Praise You is good though.

The singles really pop on this, but even all of those overstay their welcome. All I need from this is the shortened radio edits of the singles. As a full album (and even as album-length songs) this really started to grate on my nerves. Over the course of a full hour, this music really starts to feel like a gimmick.

Sometimes catchy but too long. I couldn’t do the whole album.

- this was mostly a tough listen - a couple 90s jams - otherwise this album is made for people who like the same 5 words repeated over and over

I really tried. But some times you have to admit, it's just not for you. I appreciate the effort and creativity but I don't enjoy this firm of music.

Wanted it to be so much better. Most songs just weren’t listenable for me

Thats ok but so repetitive. 2 stars

Enjoyable, recognizable music. Probably won't revisit this though.

Think I’m too hungover for that

punishing repetition...

Was surprised by how many tracks I recognised and can see why it's on the list. Not my cup of tea as I found each track a bit repetitive.

Meh. Pure meh.

A lot of this album is way too repetitive, I think 20 minutes could easily have been cut to make this a normal-length LP. Two stars for that reason alone, otherwise this music is well-produced, nostalgic, fun to listen to.

Check it out now, this album is not bad. In fact, it’s pretty good. Other than In Heaven, that song sucks. All songs are very repetitive and run long. Album comes in at (2.3*s)

Well Fatboy...you've come a little way from 1st album. Starts off pretty good but I lost interest by side 2. I'm not into party electronica and prefer a darker, headphone listen from the genre. Def has hits that were all over MTV and the radio in the 90s and had an impact on popularizing electronica so I see why it's on this list....2.4

Die 2 Hits sind ganz ok, aber dann nerve’s.

Didn't have high expectations, but, I enjoyed it!

Praise You and The Rockafeller Skank are the high watermark achievements here, they're both iconic tracks that have been imbedded into the culture zeitgeist of the 90's. The rest of the record is an unproblematic listen, but hearing it all at once back to back makes it feel less special, like maybe Fatboy Slim isn't even a musician, just a guy who got lucky that a few of his "experiments" were sonically delightful. I think hearing all these tracks back to back highlights what I don't like about electronic music, the repetitious nature and intentionally grating tones, because it makes each track feel so formulaic and dispassionate. It's the same thing every track - come up with a beat and lay a weird lyrical phrase over it, then repeat it over and over and over again for 3.5 - 5 minutes until the song is over. It’s monotonous to listen to and if that’s the whole point, then fuck you even more electronica!

All I could think listening to this is how much better it would be live. But as I am in bed, listening to this by myself, I can't do anything but pray for it to end. But again, if it was in a better setting, it would probably be fun, so 2 stars it is. Fav songs: - Right Here Right Now

Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive... Some sounds are okay, but just by repeating them over and over and over they become extremely boring. No need to listen to the whole song. Just the first 30 seconds are usually enough to know how the rest is going to be like. Praise you and Right Here, Right now are okay.

One good song

hmm. some good some very repetitive. interesting but yet whole songs that have 2 phrases huh.

It's very well heeled in its time. I reckon it was more impressive when it was released but perhaps hasn't aged as well, or just, not as good in the modern context. 2.5 but some 3.0 tracks.

4.5/10. Lots of movie jams, but a little too much

Best: Acid 8000 Love Island Praise You're not from Brighton Worst: Fucking in Heaven

2/5. How in the world does Fatboy Slim have 2 albums on this list?

If I was 18 and took MDMA and was at a rave this would have slapped. I’m 51, I take blood pressure medication and listened in an airport waiting for a flight. Didn’t enjoy, but not the target audience.

2.5 for whatever this did for electronic music at the time .....

This reminds me of a soundtrack for a movie like Blade; get repetitive with a driving beat. Listening to it on it's own is... Fine. Just a little boring. I'm sure these were bangers in the club, though. I can absolutely see some drunk AF guy finger blasting his high AF rando in the dance floor of Jive while Breathe plays in the background. Lesser known tracks>>>>Famous ones (minefields>breathe)

I understand it was influential, but it’s really just a forgettable album.

Not really for me.

This style suffers from repetition and these songs in particular with overplay. I don't need to hear "The Rockafella Skank" or "Praise You" again in my lifetime.

It kind of started out okay, but when the repetition kicked in with that incredibly annoying song, The Rockafeller Skank that was it. To be honest, the beats and music was alright, but come on, you don't have to drill it into our brains with the repeated lyrics with military precision to get your point across. It goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on about now, about now, now, now, now, about now, now, nownownownownownownow....!!! (Fat Boy Slim can go fucking in heaven in heaven in heaven forever.)

Not as bad as I thought it would be, but it does get very repetitive. Originally, I was going to give it 3 stars, but towards the end I was just hoping for it to end. 2 stars.

Alright, a classic of course. And it's nicely illustrated by the photograph over at Spotify's "about the artist". This is a sculpture of vuvuzelas: kinda funny, for a very brief moment in time, but quickly just irritating af. And look! It's also a guy in a football jersey blaring PAAAARTY! in your face. For an hour. When this came out and its hits played everywhere, I tolerated it for its novelty but today, *as an album*, I find this utterly obnoxious.

Eletrônico que cheira a anos 90! Tem músicas que marcaram a geração.

HL: “Right Here, Right Now”, \"Rockafeller Skank\", “Praise You”, “Love Island” I almost made it to April this year before getting an album I was ‘meh’ about. It was bound to happen… Not that it was a waste of an hour, I understand this could be a banger in the right environment, and I almost always have time for “Check it out now, Funk soul brotha”! But like some other 90’s electronic jams on this list, I felt tested listening to it in full. It seems like many of the songs- “Like Heaven”, “Kalifornia”, “Acid 3000”, the last minute of “Soul Surfing”, yes even my beloved “Rockafeller Skank”- have some element I find so irritating that it distracts me from the otherwise cool samples n beats. Part of my drive to complete every album stems from the fear of my music taste fossilizing: being only to derive pleasure from MY music, not whatever YOUR music is. Oddly though, that anxiety works both ways. Since I’ve had so many 4s and 5s recently, I was starting to wonder if I’m not putting ENOUGH critical thought towards those albums. Thanks to Mr. Slim, for reminding me there are genres I still have to work hard to appreciate. You’ve earned both these stars. March 25, 2024

De hits zijn leuk, de rest is zielloze muziek voor onder het TL-licht in een wezenloze snackbar om twee uur 's nachts. En dan ook nog die zinloze herhaling, het duurt allemaal zo lllaannnggg. Sorry Eric D.

Eh. Not my thing

Some decent beats & interesting samples (albeit not always deftly applied) going on for '98 but now to me it's like listening to a string of TV or video game commercials.

Quite easily a 1 if not for the nostalgia bump and occasional decent moments. Overall a repetitive pile of annoying garbage. Could not wait for it to be over.

You start with two decent tracks and then the rest is bad? Favourite track: Rockafeller Skank.

Not for me

Turns out, the more you repeat the same phrase over the same beat, the song doesn't get any better. Not an enjoyable listen whatsoever.

Hard to get through, repetitive and annoying

# 188 : Very enjoyable as repetitive background music! An exercise in repetition, and lets repeat again! solid music of the genre, but a genre I only want to listen to 1-2 songs from before I say "What The....". If it wasn't so repetitive, it might have pulled an extra star 2/5! Fav Track : Praise You Praise You Praise You Pra....

did not finish

I had this album back when it originally released. I'll say what I thought then and it still stands. The beats and samples are infectious and very reflective of the time, however it's so so repetitive. I'm trying to listen to this to start my day at work. It's upbeat and fun, but makes me want to throw my monitors through a window.

I literally fell asleep

Not for me. 2.

I understand why this album is on here, but this genre isn't for me.

A few good tracks in The Rockefeller Skank and Praise You, but besides that - nothing special here.

Not my cup of tea

Ahhh Fatboy Slim. Made popular by Rockafeller Skank, which is unfortunately the only standout song on the album. Many of the songs feel like a 15-30 second clip replayed on loop for 6 minutes. Not necessarily offensive, but it gets old pretty fast.

It's very repetitive, all the songs sound like the same, Gangster trippin is really good tho. Not really my style. 2.5/5

music to dance to, not listen to 2.5

I mean, it wasn’t “make me angry” bad - but I can’t say I’d ever listen to it again.

Jea okay

My son said this album sounds like a producer asked somebody to make a bunch of tracks for a popstar to sing over, but then they forgot to record the actual vocals

Would be ok without the lyrics.

Some decent songs with good beats / mixes but repetitive at times. Some songs were so bad though I had to skip to the next track.

It's ok. Electronic is not my favorite.

#140. While one or two of these songs may be interesting enough on their own, I absolutely cannot handle 62 minutes in a row of this repetitive nonsense. 2/5: don't

Couple of notable bangers....the rest is repetitive electronica/rap/groove/machine beats. I wouldn't seek it out, but didn't hate it. I thought Fatboy Slim was a person - guess not :)

Meh... I'd have to be in a rare mood to enjoy this

Teils, teils

Couple classics like Praise You and Rockafeller Skank mixed with meh.

Very repetitive, not my style. Good background music though

Not my thing. Songs are a minute too long

Me gusta lo electrónico, esto me aburrió. Esperaba q explote en algún momento. No me pasó. Vamos por más.

One good song.

Not gonna lie, that kinda sucked.

not for me

Didn't age terribly well...

Electro, samples, triphop, funk, singles well known, still airing at indiediscos (with chemical brothers and prodigy). Other songs more interludes or copy of the hits, missing the consistency, some songs rather boring, not eyeopening - expected more. But the music videos and album cover are great.

This is tough to rate—classic songs, but repetitive beats and lyrics make it difficult for me to enjoy listening to the album from start to finish. I’d rate some of the individual songs highly (between 3 and 4), but I just can’t bring myself to rate the album as a whole higher than like a 2.5.

Day16 - makes me want to dance like christopher walken

Really not my style

Better than expected, did not finish the entire album though, only about 3/4ths.

Long e) electronic songs

It had a few catchy songs I remember from the 90s, but even the better songs were incredibly repetitive and mindless. This feels like an edm album only old boring people would pretend to like to try to be cool. 2.1 just for nostalgia.

This album was a huge moment in time in my formative years, and really rode a wave to be a huge part of pop culture at the time - further immortalised by Christopher Walken's dance moves. The three big tracks are great. Listening to it today I was quite shocked at how boring the album felt outside of those three big singles. Some tracks felt like they were more closely resembling an emergency klaxon that repeats for 4 minutes rather than enjoyable music. Maybe I am just an old man yelling at clouds, but I feel like this album, as revolutionary as it was at the time, does not hold up all that well.

REPETTETIVE

not for me.

Not my thing… I wasn’t expecting it to be just instrumentals, some nice stuff here and there but overall ??? skipped through most of it

very likely the best version of this sort of thing, which is not saying much

Started out really enjoying this. Hit a nostalgia nerve the right way and still sounded good. Then I realized 9 years had passed, I’d heard the same 2 phrases 840,000 times and track 2 still had another minute left on it. It was then I remembered why I never bought this album back in the day. Would prob add 2 stars if I had a bunch of ecstasy.

a lotta repetitive and a little pretentious for a second album - not the worst thing i’ve heard but i have no real desire to hear it again. although it’s really a product of it’s time i have to admit it grew on me as i listened to it

Not my cup of tea

Apart from the singles that made it big, the rest of this album isn't great.

Right here right now is a song I didn't know, but had heard a million times. Good song. The Rockafeller Skank (Short edit) is a little annoying tbh Fucking in Heaven is even more annoying my god. Gangster Trippin isn't great, and at this point I think it seems clear that Fatboy Slim isn't my kind of music. The lyrics are the same line repeated over and over again... The next songs are also not great, until... Praise You is a great song. And the rest aren't great :/

I thought overall that the songs are all too long. They go on beyond my interest level. They are also way more “techno” than I prefer. I did like the first song l thought, but mostly because of the video.

Not my type of music, but respect the talent involved. I had heard a few of these tracks back in the day. 1.5/5

Not my style, but a lot of songs got my head bobbing. It was a little too lengthy, but i get that it comes with the genre

it's Alright

Headache but disco vibes

Da funke litt, men ikkje nok

There was an element of fun in this one but ultimately it's too repetitive, too long, too much of bloody everything.

Cool album, but quite repetitive and not my style.

FIFA98 vibes!

The songs that slap, slap. But there is a lot of filler.

Meh. Right here, Right now—I don't think this has aged that well—funk soul brother.

My issue with this album is similar to my issue with every album from this genre - the songs are too long. If I was at a party, I probably wouldn’t hate it, but listening to it on its own is repetitive and annoying. I expected I was going to like this album more than I actually did. I hated “Praise You” when it first came out, but it has grown on me. But I think I liked the radio edits more. They felt more purposeful and concise. With that said, I do understand why this album is on this list, and Fatboy Slim really changed the game and brought this genre mainstream in a way it wasn’t at the time. I just don’t care for it. This album gets an extra star for “The Rockefeller Skank” because that song is amazing to this day. But I didn’t care for it overall.

Nothing really stood out to me. I tend to enjoy lyrics the most in a song and this album really isn’t that. The actual production is fun so I’ll give him that but man… I just don’t think I care that much.

So many repetitive vocal samples. 2

Strange how boring this hyped artist of my adolescence sounds today to me.

The best song on this album is Praise You...a fantastic tune.

These 90’s techno albums just don’t cut it over a full album. Couple jams, but I wouldn’t give it another spin.

If this was album was 3 songs long, it would be a 4, but alas, it isn’t. But this album did remind me to watch the Christopher Walker dance Weapon of Choice music video which was such a treat

interesting never heard of this guy until right now might have heard his name once or twice before electronic hip hop????? not rlly my thing a lot of repetitiveness not my fave genre or sound this was so fucking mid lol

Just a lot of noises

Not really my cup of tea this music, unless there's drugs involved...

It's an album of fun beats, but every song is just the same beat and the same line looped like 200 times over 4 minutes. Then do that 11 times. So incredibly repetitive. The kind of music that plays when the credits roll in a 2002 rated PG spy comedy.

Not a huge fan. Praise is a classic though.

The tunes were pretty great, got me bobbing my head, but the repetition (though fun in the beginning) became old pretty quick. 2 stars because by the end I was just waiting for it to be over

Two songs. Two songs that I like. Two songs that I like on this album. Everything else. Meh.

A few great songs, a few "I'm stuck in a locked room and can't get out" songs.

Overrated. Great album if you like tripping your balls off at a rave while hearing the same samples be repeated nonstop for 7 minutes until the next song comes on and the cycle repeats.

aside from rockafeller skank, this is one of the most irritating listens

Annoying songs that you end up bobbing your head to

I’ve loved Praise You since I was a kid, and that’s the only reason this didn’t get one star. I see the value of this album as high art or “couture” music, but honestly there’s a limit to how much repetition a person can stand, and modern electronic artists thankfully seem to have a better understanding of that.

advert music.

Not something I would return for but was not the worst thing I have heard and probably not the last.

I wouldn't say any of this was necessarily bad, just really repetitive. The lyrics were garbage, but that's pretty much expected for this kind of music. My main issue with this was that every single song could've been at most 3 minutes. The repetitiveness would start to get annoying around that time and then there'd be a false ending where I felt a real ending would've been natural, only to then go on for 2-4 more minutes with no payoff. Easily could've been a 3/5 from me if it was just shorter. 2/5

Seven nation army seuraavaks?

I can't say I'd listened to this through in one session before, it's not bad but quite repetitive and was definitely made for other artists to sample.

Not really my type of music did not finish

It's 4AM, your tranced out on XTC & Yayo, and the glow in the dark pacifier is starting to loose its chew. Holy shit I need some water. That's where I need to be in order to enjoy this album. Unfortunately I not. There were two radio bangers from back in the day though.

This is jolly modern pop music by numbers - nothing subtle but quite catchy in an obvious way. It passed a morning quite pleasantly, but I wouldn't go out of my way to play this album. The production is slick, if basic. About the most complimentary thing I can say is that it's preferable to The Housemartins. By track 7 I did feel like I had been listening for too long already, though.

Wasn't for me tbh

Favourite song: Praise You

I can hear the layering of beats and loops and recognize it’s being done well, but the overall experience is repetitive. Nothing really stands out, it’s just a flat plane of sound. It was a real slog for me.

Lots of noises, got sick of it by the end

Extremely repetitive. I was glad when it was over.

i beg you a pardon

this album is abundantly redundant. i suppose it is typical for this genre of music, but it is not for me.

Not my thing

cool undso aber in welcher situation hört man sowas?! 3/10

Full of all the “hits” that people will recognise but then ask you to skip after 30 seconds, repetitive soulless junk.

The first two tracks and 'Praise You' were all over the Radio and TV when they were released. ALL OVER. They're not terrible, but I am utterly sick of them now. I have never heard the other tracks on this album. Blimey, 'The Rockafeller Skank' does drag on a bit, doesn't it?! Oh, I remember this one too, terrible. Christ. This one! I remember everything! Did every single song from this record get a release? Perhaps I have secretly listened to this album before? Bored now. 2 / 5 stars.

The question is whether I would turn up—get crunk—raise the roof, dare I say—if this came on in the club. The long answer is I wouldn’t.

Not quite bad enough for a one but nothing more than a 2.

C- Right Here, Right Now - 2 The Rockefeller Skank - 3 In Heaven - 2 Gangster Trippin’ - 2 Build It Up - Tear It Down - 2 Kalifornia - 1 Soul Surfing - 2 You’re Not from Brighton - 2 Praise You - 4 Love Island - 1 Acid 8000 - 1 Late 90s/Early 2000s teen rom-com's would've been nothing without this album.

Always preferred Fatboy Slim to Moby, but I knew what was on the radio. Listening to the album, it seems like there's a lot of filler (like half of the albums on this list).

acompañamiento para manejar e ir pensando en la definición canónica de lo que es (o no) música y en lo difícil que es no juzgar

The only thing keeping this from being a one star album is "Rockafeller Skank"

Heard it before?: a few tracks but first time in entirety Enjoy it?: Yeah was good for most parts and important for genre but a lot felt like long filler Favourite song: Track 1 - Right Here Right Now

Hauska heh... Ei tämmöinen harmia tee.. Paljon helpompi kuunnella kuin jotain rock paasauksia.. Oikeasti miellyttävää kuunneltavaa kun joskus täällä joutuu hampaat irvessä.. YLLÄPITO SAATANA.. laittaa semmosta paskaa sieltä yläilmakehistä.. Tässä parasta.. Selvästi näkyy mikä vuosi tehty.. hassu heh..

Couple of good parts and a lot of rubbish. Favorite song: Praise You.

Can appreciate some of the samples used, but the songs were very long and repetitive. Felt like every song could have been cut in half

Well I enjoyed this at the time and got pretty heavily into big beat, though in 2023 I never imagined I would listen to this album again. Obviously it's aged terribly for the most part. There is a reason this album was overflowing the bargain bins of record shops for £1.99 everywhere after a while. Nice to hear Right Here right now and Praise You, the other two singles were hugely overplayed but still good - as is Praise You but is more fun somehow. The rest of this - without exception - is pure filler. Some more egregious than others, Soul Surfing is alright, but that's it. Honestly, absolutely noone needs this in 2023. Will reserve judgement on the other one but honestly, TWO Fatboy Slim albums in this list, with the stuff they've left out? Criminal. Amusingly the book leaves an error in, referencing the sample from the Chambers Brothers - Fried Tomatoes, which doesn't exist. Just Brothers - Sliced Tomatoes however is a banger.

Better than I expected but second half especially pretty shite. Love island can get in the bin.

Not my cup of tea.

Too repetitive and it said the F word a lot in one song.

too repetitive for my taste

I think this is a good album when you already know it. It's not a, "I'm gonna go on a long drive and listen to this," but more of a, "This is an album I grew up listening to and have fond memories associated with it." Like I wouldn't choose to listen to it but I'm glad that I did.

Pioneering but the style wasn’t for me

Just no.

It's okay but Jesus Christ, the repetition is enough to drive one insane. I'm the kind of guy that, if you tell me that Fatboy Slim is Fucking in Heaven, it might go in one ear and out the other. Tell me a second time and it's still possible I will miss it. Tell me three times and I've got it, no need to belabor the point. Tell me 200 times in a row and it will make my head explode. Literally. I enjoy this in very small doses but that's about it. 2 stars.

Sometimes an album grows on you the more you listen to it. This is not one of those times.

Very different type of music but enjoyed the energy of the album at the start (got a bit sick of it towards the end as listened to it nonstop). I liked how every song has its own twist on a normal beat, for example in Gangsta trippin there was a part of the song with a Ukulele in the background which I liked. Very electric and high energy album. Would enjoy some of the songs in certain situations but some of them were just not good. 2.5 STARS

Interesting synths and vocals starting in Right Here Right Now, kinda a vibe👌. Okie vibing, just saw a floofer too. Hold up it’s 5 minutes?? Hmmm not vibing at minute 1:50 and so. …it’s good but repetitive. Love the violin parts though. I dig the flow of the music. Resisting the urge to skip the last minute… Rockefeller Skank: had no idea what they were saying, looked at lyrics 😂 Loving the groove of the rythme. Noticing a theme of repetition… okie it’s literally all the same lyrics, imma skip ahead and see if there is a beat change. Interesting shift at minute 4 some matrix stuff. Minute 5: intrusive thoughts be like.

The electronic style of this album isn’t really my thing but it had a really good energy to it. The Rockafeller Skank is my fav.

1.5 Some of the songs are lowkey and almost a jam. Some gets or are boring. Some of the songs are horrible. Some parts of the songs are really good, some parts of the songs are really bad. Praise you is a fine song. Also his most popular in fact. Not my type of album. To much… techno?

I don’t feel good and this album gave me a headache but I feel like if I felt good this would be fun and jez me up. So I don’t know what to think, 2.5/5

Even though I am not a huge fan of electronic music, I was very much looking forward to this album. I remember his hit songs and the cool music videos when I was younger. However I don't think the music holds up all that well. The samples being repeated over and over and over and over is annoying. I don't think it is quite deserving of a one as I usually reserved those that I had to skip songs or shut off immediately. Barely passing grade.

Interesting but too repetitive for me, and not in a good way. Too punk for me I guess.

Irriterende med de digitale effektene, spesielt Rockafeller Skank. Både effektene midt i og når den bytter stereoside i begynnelsen. Slitsomt lydbilde generelt, men deler av det var kult.

This is one of those albums that made sense to some people at a certain time. It got huge air play for the couple of catchy songs it has, but overall, the album is boring and the two songs are played out.

I’d almost completely written this album off, then Praise You came on and that twang of nostalgia bumped this album up to a 2.

Hip hop samples without the hip hop. Not coming back to this.

Nobody starts a party like Fatboy but you spend almost all this album wanting to play the singles versions as they are much better

Nadal nie rozumiem muzyki elektronicznej, dzisiaj trafilo na big beat z drugiego studyjnego albumu pana Fatboya Slima, czyli elektronicznego czlowieka orkiestry z wysp, o ile jakos kojarze sama postac, czy niektore utwory z tej plyty tak nigdy nie sluchalem go wczesniej, nic dziwnego, bo przeciez elektonika z 98, wiec mocno samplowane orkiestrowe skreczowanie i multum dziwnych dzwiekow skompilowane w ponad godzinnym materiale, jesli dwa pierwsze utwory gdzies mi sie obily o uszy, to im dalej w plyte tym bardziej obskurne duze bity sie robily, no moze poza przed ostatnim utworem praise you, ktory rowniez zachacza o mainstream, ale tak czy inaczej odsluch raczej wymeczony, za malo pozytywnych zaskoczen na rzecz katowania dziwnoscia, gdyby jeszcze bardziej basowe to bylo granie, to pomyslalbym ze jestem na totrurach erwinowskich, gdy odpali swoja diabelska muzyke w samochodzie, na plejke elektrykowa dodam otwierajacego right here right now, ktory nie wiem czemu kojarzy mi sie z wczesnym jutubem lub jakimis reklamami

Praise You is fun. There are not many other fun moments.

way too repetitive

esencial del Dance music a final de los 90, nunca lo había escuchado pero nada que llame en gran manera mi atención. Prodigy es mil veces mejor que esto.

Fine, not into this style of music. One track I recognized.

Fat boy slim is fucking in heaven - yung gravy could never

I feel like i want to eviscerate myself after this

Stress alligevel

Where to start? Didn’t like this at the time and I think it’s got worse over time. Sounds like a poor man’s attempt at David Holmes style soundtrack music (sorry Norman). It’s a no from me.

Two cool songs, surrounded by fuckin fuckin fuckin fuckin fuckin fuckin fuckin fuckin (in heaven, though, so that’s nice) druggy druggy druggy druggy druggy druggy druggy druggy druggy booty move your booty move your booty move in a bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce house house house house house. Kind of an ordeal, but not the worst thing I ever heard, I guess.

some catchy riffs but it's basically one vulgar joke over an over

Sehr durchwachsen. Mischung aus ein paar guten Liedern und anderen Liedern wo man einfach nur weiterschalten will.

Gangster Trippin is nice. That's all I'm going to say about this.

Meh. Not my kind of music, though some of the tracks are good to keep moving when I do my power walks. Really liked « Praise You »!

A DJ set put down on an album. To me it is the kind of thing where you pick an individual tune out for dancing at a party, mixing it with other tunes. However listening to this as an album from start to finish does not work for me. In this connection I get stressed with all the sampling and scratching. Tedeous.

Mixed. Often find the repetition grating. Gangster Trippin is inspired, however. I particularly like the style change and implied key change connected with the vocal sample. Most of this album is on the edge of irritating for me amd most songs cross that line at some point where I want to hit the skip button. The unconventional structure of each song makes me want to stick with it anyway, though, because the changes are often rewarding.

i can see someone enjoying this but sadly its not for me

A repetição das batidas deve funcionar para as pistas, mas para mim, foi demasiadamente cansativo.

Apparemment ça s'appelle le big beat et apparemment j'aime pas trop ça (à part Praise You)

can see why the hits were the hits, rest is very repetitive filler

Man, if these guys could JUST have shortened up some of these songs I would have loved it. But the endless 6-7 minute repeating is not going to do it for me. Song added to Playlist: Praise You

Mostly gross

Some blasts from the past that get you dancing for about 10 seconds, until the repetition kicks in. Overall, self obsession overtook any good tunes.

Another album of the 90s big-beat period but somewhat more infantile and self-indulgent than Chemical Brothers or Prodigy. Additionally struck me as more repetitive than the other artists and so the album just leaves me thinking that I could here something similar but better if I put on either Chemical Brothers or something crazier but similar (and therefore more interesting) if I put on Prodigy.

This album was more sound effects than music and some of it had a good beat. The vocals kept me from rating it higher.

The singles are fun but dated. As a whole this album is pretty much unlistenable though. It makes the Avalanches sound complex and meaningful. In Heaven? Smh. It's a shame because some of his sample choices are fantastic but there's a lot of filler. In a Spotify world, I wonder whether this album would ever happen.

You know, without having Christopher Walken to watch dance around and distract from this repetitive nonsense, it's just not worth it. 2 minutes of the same 10 seconds looping followed by a new 2 minute 10 second loop...repeat. I can't even figure out when a person would listen to this? Rave? Tripping? Homework? Work? Fishing? Camping? Warming up for a basketball game? Nah, it doesn't fit anywhere because it's just annoying repetition. As is this review. Purposefully repetitive.

I'm confused. Is he fat or slim?

Only for the nostalgia. I was there in Brighton when this all kicked off. It was fun. Big fun. But it’s not a record that holds it’s quality. Disposable.

Have to admit to being somewhat disappointed on listening to this for the first time in many years. I now find it quite dated and repetitive. Maybe a result of overplaying over the years. In contrast, DJ Shadow's Endtroducing ... (an album of similar style and vintage) still sounds fresh and interesting.

One or two tracks that I've become ingrained to but otherwise not my thing particularly.

In which an Atari ST soundtracks adverts.

Didn't make it through. Timing wasn't great.

I remember when this album came out in the 90's and there was literally no escape from the catchy singles "Rockafeller Skank" and "Praise You". The other tracks are fine but I found a lot of it to be repetitive - most of the songs literally repeat the same phrase over and over. I need more drugs to enjoy this.

Another electronic album... the famous songs are worth it, but it is so much longer than it should be.
