Reviews (page 7 of 13)
Some good funk vibes.
First ever disco album - obviously know the classics from various school discos, weddings and the radio. 1) *** [Chic Cheer] Lovely bassline, definitely makes me want to move. Nice album opener settling the tone. 2) ***** [Le Freak] Speaking of radio classics - that guitar lick is iconic. Smooth vocals and funky rhythm. Strings add a lot of depth. Even though I have heard it a thousand times it still absolutely slaps. 3) *** [Savoir Faire] Feels like I'm sat on the floral sofa on the cover listening to this jazzy ensemble. The guitar is the vocal with a tasteful meandering lead - technically fantastic. As always the bass is the backbone. Very chill vibe - not what I was expecting on a disco album. 4) **** [Happy Man] I absolutely love this bassist. Positive, uplifting vibes - like the title. A BASS SOLO! lets go 5) ***** [I want your love] Oh, I didn't realise it was this song. The bells are epic. The strings are sublime. Absolute classic. 6) * [At last I'm free] Ah man, pick the tempo back up. This has wedding singer vibes. Is just kind of there - feels very sparse. I imagine this is a slow dance number. Too long. 7) *** [Sometimes you win] Bopping bassline. THANK YOU FOR THE HORNS/SAX?! saves the song. 8) **** [(funny)Bone] A strings led instrumental. Not sure about the canned laughter. Overall 3.5ish ***(*) The bass on this album is so damn funky. The scratchy guitar tone iconic. The vocals smooth. The embellishments like strings and piano are very well done. Second half quality does fade off after I want your love. I think it's very close to a 4, but I cant see myself putting the full album on again. Definitely have placed half of the tracks in playlists though. I guess Disco/funk/Soul is now on my radar.
Good background music.
Feels like you could put this on at almost any time and it would sound good; need to revisit and listen closer
Enjoyed this one more than I expected. I'm not a big fun of disco. Actually, my favourite track is "Savoir Faire". I particularly enjoy the instrumental sections (not a fun of the vocals in this album). Other songs I enjoyed: "Le Freak" (though clearly not my top-one), "I Want Your Love" (probably my second favourite in the album), or "Chic Cheer". It's between 3 and 4 stars for me.
Classic disco which is great, but I’m pretty sure I just listened to 8 identical songs…..
Disco like this is always great and then it keeps going for another 30 minutes repeating the same thing. High on a dance floor I bet you don’t care but casually listening at work? Ehhhh
Most of this was pretty basic disco. Le Freak and Savoir Faire are easily the standouts, the former because its popular and the latter because it's really fucking good. Most of this album is pretty repetitive, though. Favorite Track: Savoir Faire - I had to look up the guitarist's name to say this: Nile Rodgers, you are the goat. Holy shit. This song may have some of the best guitar-playing ever. Transcendent.

Disco!
vibeees aber innerhalb der lieder zu viel wiederholung für mich
The bass is killing it and this is fun to listen to. Not overly deep but it's cool. Sure. On the list. I'm fighting between a strong three or weak four but think the three has it tonight.
Classic disco sounds. Le Freak a obviously a hit. The lead vocals on At last I am Free are recorded well. The song is too long. Sometimes You Win, the singing isn't great but a back and forth duet is always fun. The end is not good. I can't remember there being that much disco on the list, but I am deep in. This is fine.
FREAK OUT!
Well fun trip down memory lane…fun album, some good songs…a tough one to rate..giving a 3 because anything under 3 I wouldn’t listen to again..
It was a good time.
Pretty easy album to just listen to. It’s upbeat but chilled out at the same time which I like. It didn’t wow me tho so I would rate it a 3 just from it not being very memorable, except le freak because I’ve heard it countless times
Honestly I don’t remember this album in the slightest because I was dead tired. I know there’s one famous song I was like “oh, I know this” but other than that I remember it being a bit slow but more tolerable than other slow ones.
C’est Chic really captures the essence of a more laid-back disco groove. It’s smooth, stylish, and built around rhythms that feel effortless, even when there is clearly a lot of craft behind them. The bass and guitar work here are absolutely not to be slept on, because Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards are basically operating at wizard level. They know how to build a groove, keep it tight, and make even the simplest rhythm feel sharp and alive. Track-wise, “Le Freak” is easily the standout. It’s fun, catchy, and still feels like the kind of song that can instantly wake up a room. The rest of the album, though, is more of a mixed bag. Some songs had me bobbing my head and enjoying the vibe, while others started to stretch the groove a little too thin. “At Last I Am Free,” especially, just goes on too long for me and gets too repetitive, to the point where I was kind of waiting for the album to move along. So overall, C’est Chic has some fantastic musicianship, a killer disco classic at the center, and plenty of smooth moments, but it also has a few spots where the party slows down a little too much.
I guess if I'm going to have to listen to a disco album, it might as well be this one. I'm pretty sure I've roller skated to at least 50% of the songs on this album. It also sounds like the soundtrack to a hot tub scene on early Magnum P.I. The chimes on I Want Your Love reminded me of a marching band song freshman year of high school that included chimes. So, if nothing else, this album offered a quick trip down memory lane (not so much so that I would inspired to write a concept album about suburban living and roller rinks, though). But... it's still a disco album.
Not my thing at all. Sounds great. The guitar is especially pristine.
Right now I’m having trouble with the rating scale, and it feels like I’m constantly giving out three stars. Often my problem is similar to what I had with “C’est Chic”: I knew that Chic wrote the bassline for “Another One Bites the Dust” (a year later), and I’d already heard “Le Freak” and “Good Times” before. The rest of the album isn’t really bad; it’s well-produced, and I like the basslines. Still, my overall impression is mediocre—the songs don’t really speak to me, the style hasn’t aged particularly well, and I’ll probably never consciously listen to this again. So, yeah: once again, somewhat solid.
Le Freak is a classic, but it's the only song on the album that I'd want to revisit. The rest is ok
Its Chic, it's fun and dancey and produced really well but not a regular go back to album for a listening experience.
Good
Hmm. Everyone needs to know Le Freak, but do they need to hear the rest, will I like it? Well, this album topped the US RnB charts for eleven weeks, that suggests it's got something. But the track list is rather uneven. Chic Cheer is a stinker, then Le Freak has enough iconic elements that I'll excuse the lyrics, then the next three songs are decent/pleasant (middle of the road, but features like tasteful jazzy guitar, tasty horn and string lines), so at this stage I'm kinda positive. But oh dear, At Last I Am Free is 7:13 of pedestrian schmaltz. The two closing songs display precision playing, but they don't seem to have anything to say to me ... lacking the suggestiveness of eg much later Daft Punk lyrics. So, overall I'll say it's Okay, 6/10.
cheesy but dec
Десь на 3.5. Прикольне диско.
My bottoms are not belled enough for this album but you know it’s fire 🔥
I suppose if I ever wanted tome funky disco in my life Chic would be the ones to turn to. Le Freak is the quintessential funky disco track. I suggest you don't listen to the lyrics on this album with any interest you will be seriously disappointed but it is pretty slick and funky. However if I ever want some funky disco in my life I will wonder what is wrong.
i wish someone had raised me on motown. i like a lot about this album. its groovy and funky and danceable. it feels a bit long for me, like they could be shorter more crystallized pop hits. but i do get it. i still like it. rock on.

Oui oui motherfucker
I love Chic and I think Nile Rodgers is one of the biggest powerhouses in modern music as far as the songs he's written and the influence he's had on other artists. A lot of people consider disco to be cheesy and not great music. I think that's true for some of it. But to me, Chic is the Rolls Royce of disco music. While some of their songs may seem repetitive or cheesy, the actual music is top notch because of Rodgers. This isn't my favorite Chic album. Everyone knows "Le Freak" and that's really the stand out on this particular album. But Chic's impact on music is huge and the production on this one is stellar. Great Saturday morning listen!
I recognize a few of these tracks by title, but otherwise have never listened to this album start-to-finish. I think I enjoyed the non-singles more than the big hits. Though they all tend toward feeling longer than they are. I'm not a huge fan of disco. With that in mind, this is good, but not great. Though I'm not feeling compelled to listen to this again. It gets extra points for the bass work. Though it also loses points for the purely repetitive lyrics across all the songs.
It contains the classics Le Freak and I Want Your Love, which are exceptional examples of the disco scene, and still stand up today So an automitic three stars there I do wish there was a little more variety on the album, but I do hear a couple of tracks that might grow on me over time Yeah - I'm probably going to be playing this one again, and dancing around the kitchen with my kids, wallowing in happy memories of back in the day . . .
I found this surprisingly interesting to listen to, even enjoyable. It's not my style or anything that I'd circle back to often, or prolly at all, but it was a good listen one-time.
Surprising. Longer songs at a time when that wasn’t radio friendly. Upbeat and easy to groove with.
fun 70s disco, but don't need to listen to again
nota: 3 musicas favs: le freak, savoir faire, i want your love, at last i am free
Hyvää musaa mut aika paljon toisti itseään
Definitely a groovy album! I didn’t LOVE every track but I had FUN with every track. Standouts for me were obviously “Le freak” which is recognizable to every human being on Earth, Savoir Faire, and Sometimes You Win!
Fun if slightly repetitive vibes.
While I did catch myself enjoying the instrumentals to a degree as they were quite good, it's overall too pedestrian of an album. I didn't not enjoy it, but I didn't like it either. Middle of the road and forgettable.
Disco album from the late 70's. I remember hearing several of these songs on regular radio rotation. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: n/a Best Songs Le Freak I Want Your Love
Solid R&B guitar work by Nile Rodgers, although the songs are internally repetitive.
5/10
3.7/5
yeah i've heard that song before
"Savoir Faire" pulls this score up quite a bit on its own, but it's still a good album. a high 3. it's unashamed and unassuming in its approach to dance and disco-inspired lightness. that's probably why i like "Savoir Faire" so much, because it stands out from the other tunes which share an identity. still, i'd put this on again for sure. also the album art is really cool. weird font choice on the track list but that picture goes fucking hard
I was pretty floored by Sonny Rollins’ death and spent most of the day listening to him. I don’t think I gave Chic my best attention, so this demands a relisten. What I do remember was lots of fun!
I ended up liking this more than I expected but it's mainly because Savoir Faire is a jawdropper like holy moly what a great piece of music.
I got this album for $3 at a flea market, and you too will find a Chic record on the cheap and take home its precision funk goodness.
Groovy. 3.5 stars
Really liked the instrumental track
Le Freak is a good song, and I wouldn't object to it being on a list of the 1001 singles you must hear before you die. Nile Rogers' guitar on Savoir Faire is also terrific. The rest is pleasant discoey dancey stuff.
Chic indeed
듣기는 나쁘지 않으나 가사도 없고 잘 안 느껴짐
Light 3,5
I love the fact that the original lyrics was "Aaa, fuck off", aimed at the Studio 54 bouncers.
Chic Cheer starts us off somewhat strongly, but the title chant can get a little annoying, and the band loves it so darn much that the song doesn't actually get off the ground. It's perfectly serviceable as an opening number to a disco/R&B album, which is exactly what it is. We're led into the instantly recognisable Le Freak (ughhhh! freak out!!) – and though it's a staple of late-70s disco hits, I can't help but start to notice a pattern here, especially in combination with their album Risqué, released the following year. CHIC absolutely love medium-long dance tracks that absolutely do not go anywhere. This sort of music has its place in history, but it's genuinely a marvel as to how outrageously successful these sorts of songs actually were at the time. Yes, they sound good, but do you want to sit through eight of these consecutively? Nice instrumental in Savoir Faire with a particularly great guitar line. I like the little additions of piano and strings too. The subtle drumming really helps to keep this track from getting too overpowering. I Want Your Love begins side 2 with some punchy standout horn lines. The basswork is also worth a shoutout, too. It's always mixed loudly and cleanly in disco-era music, which (after decades of bass neglect) amounts to one of the genre's biggest triumphs. We move onto the lengthy At Last I Am Free, which makes for excellent background listening but is a bit sluggish otherwise. At least we get a nice piano outro rather than a slow fade-out. Sometimes You Win is fine yet unmemorable, but luckily the finale, (Funny Bone), has a deep, head-thumping groove that I could easily imagine playing over movie credits. 3/5 Key tracks: Le Freak, I Want Your Love
So classic
Det føles som et album, der godt kunne have banet vejen for meget andet i genren. Det var godt, men også lidt ensformigt i længden. En lille 3'er
Not horrible, better than I thought it was going to be. I really don't like disco and was expecting all disco songs, but there are some different types of songs on here. Some pretty good guitars too.
Really good fun. I've never wanted to dance as much as I did during this album. Feel-good disco energy, nice vocals and the instrumental Savoir Faire is gorgeous. Just a very cool record. 3.5/5.
The album has a nice laid-back disco vibe, which i enjoyed. The only problem I had was that it tended to go on for a long time without any sort of variance between songs. Despite that, it was still really good!
Maybe disco is a completely sterile and inoffensive genre but gosh darnit sometimes it's okay to not listen to offensive music. Highlights: "Chic Cheer", "Le Freak"
At times fun but mostly boring. Outside of le freak, this album is super bland. 2.5/5
#940. I can now honestly say I've listened to more disco in the last 2 weeks than maybe the rest of life combined. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying I think we're starting to run out of cocaine. 3/5: freak out
Had no idea who they were until I heard Le Freak. They remind a lot of Parcels, I’m sure they influenced them a ton. Highlights: “Le Freak” and “I Want Your Love”
An album of songs, many of which I'd be happy to listen to if they turned up in a playlist, but its tough when they are altogether in one sitting
I have heard some if these before. Some new discoveries. Good background music.
some good tunes but not consistent
It belongs in the list, for sure. Some real classics here, you could say some tracks are a little bland but can't deny the influence this had on other artists over the years. I'm a big fan of their bassist, a real understated groove, great musicianship
This is, in all, just a fun album to listen to. This is an album filled top to bottom with upbeat tracks made to dance to. There aren't many tracks on this album, but with them being around 4-6 minutes in length each, it adds up to an average-length album. The only downside to this is that you don't get much variety... with more songs, there is more chance of getting something different, but the feel is almost the same throughout this album. That being said, it's not always a bad thing, and I did enjoy the addition of a fully instrumental track in the mix to separate some of the other songs. Favourites: Happy Man Le Freak Chic Cheer
07/05/2026 It just felt too long and samey. Sorry lads. Spotify listeners: 5.5 million
Know any other Le Chic songs other than “Le Freak?” Yeah, thought so.
I absolutely love Chic, seeing them live recently was a dream come true. They've got so many hits and great colaborations that's hard to narrow down to a short list of favorites. Unfortunately I'm slightly dissapointed by their album content. It's always half great, half not so much. Chic Cheer and Le Freak are obvious classics, that i'll listen to forever, and I Wan Your Love is my favorite song of theirs and one of my favorites of all time. I wish their slower songs were better, and they do have good slow songs, but not on this album.
A couple of disco hits. Forgettable unless you hand at the pickup dance clubs.
I really wanted to like this album more. Nile Rodgers is a great featured artist, and a great producer. But this album is just good, not great. "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love" are obvious singles, but otherwise the whole thing feels a little flat. Something to put on in the background and let the groove flow.
Le freak c chic ig
it’s just kind of so safe, i feel like this is as heterosexual as disco can possibly be. but some all time classics are on here that cannot be denied. but then again i want your love could be one of the best songs ever written
EINDELIJK IETS GROOOVYYYYY. prima album!
groovy disco FREAK OUT ik vond wel beeetjeee eentonig worden maar wel leuk uiteindelijk ik zou het vaker luisteren vanwege THE GROOVE
Just as funky as you'd expect from chic and contains a few brilliant tunes. Also has a couple of songs which are a tad indulgent and far too long - Savoir Faire loses me and At Last I am Free eventually gets annoying 7/10
Rounded up to 3.5. Really dug the vibes.
Disco isn’t really for me but Le Freak is a ubiquitous track that everyone has heard and has an absolutely awesome groove to it
If I were trying to have a very whimsical walk and listen to nobody I would play this album.
Music is decent, but the songs are way too long. Will likely never revisit.
FREAK OUT Favorite Songs: Le Freak, At Last I Am Free
this was FUN but not the strongest impression 3.5 vibe
not bad
Good for ripping paper to.
Great fun. Some songs on there I had no idea were by this band!
I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to the entirety of Le Freak before and I never really needed to. This whole album feels like that. There are good moments but you hear them once and kind of get it
Enjoyed it more than I thought
Like pretty good I was grooving to it for the most part but every song is 30% too long this shit dragged for way too long
Le Freak is the only relevant song on this album.
do sprzątania disco parę hitów . W sam raz . Jest vibik
Songs are too long. Got bored.
Gran tema freak out, a destacar mucho. No le pude dedicar el tiempo suficiente pero fue agradable y buena musica disco.
I like the vibes, but the real fire and the mood is only “Le Freak”, the rest of the songs is just a reflection of that… But good for the cozy and cool background! Oui oui
Making Disco Great Again
It's nice
Honestly some of these songs are really good but some of them are snooze fests so that makes this album perfectly mid imo
Savoir Faire is the best song on the album by far and it is nothing like the rest of the album
This was fun. I think a bruno song samples le freak (or I’ve heard it before, or both). Most of the songs just repeat one or two lyrics the entire time. Some have no lyrics
To start with, I listened to the wrong damn album. That’s my bad, but in hindsight it was a happy accident because I quite enjoyed it. Going back to then listen to *this* one, my review will be similar but overall a step down across the board. Musically, this is incredible & I love it. Bernard is just the absolute baddEST of mother Hubbards. And Nile both complements & embellishes so fantastically. On the other hand, I just do not get disco strings. I’m sure they’re “good” & smarter musical brains than I can explain why they’re necessary but more often than not I find them distracting &/or annoying. Not a big fan of the vocals either. Less is more imho. With a couple exceptions of course. Also, I’m out on Le Freak. It’s good, but it’s been played so geedamned much & co-opted in every & any context & permutation that it immediately triggers nausea &/or loss of consciousness. Fuk off wit ya bad self. With the predecessor I’d go 3+ & round up to 4. This follow up however is a low 3 at best & rounds right back down
Very Old school, is more party mix, I liked some songs tho others are old classics that are overplayed in this day and age. (Could not find OG Album?)
приятное, диско есть хиты короткий не заявка на разнос все очень хорошо и уместно, в границах стиля, небольшая история, которую можно переслушать 3.5
great tunes! some songs are just too long without any variation in beats which resulted in me getting a bit bored
7/10
2.5
3.5
I had high hopes for this but besides Le Freak, which is amazing, everything else was kind of boring
too old for me
It locks into a groove and never really leaves it. The musicianship is tight, no question, but it feels more about maintaining a vibe than pushing ideas forward. I can respect the discipline, I just don’t find myself fully engaged over a full listen.
Great grooves. Good to hear alternate tracks
It's a classic for a reason; fun, easy listen that makes you wanna dance.
This experience has made me purposely listen to more disco than I have before starting it. So far I have heard quintessential songs by quintessential artists. "Le Freak" from this album being a new addition to the list. Unfortunately, like other disco albums I've heard, the rest of the songs outside of the big hit don't do much for me. It was enjoyable, but not amazing. 3/5
Le freak, c'est chic Se disfrutó. Buen disco de música disco. 6/10
Groovy disco. after a while sounds the same track to track, but easy in background for a party
2.5 - couple bangers but not enough vocals :(
I liked it
Really enjoyed this one, always appreciate the skill of funk musicians, especially bass players. I want your love felt a classic dance banger that could be released today and not seem out of place.
I love disco music and I love CHIC - they have so many great songs including a few on this album. Overall, I don’t think the album is that strong outside of the stand out songs. But still a great listen overall and one I would come back to. Top Songs: Le Freak, I Want Your Love, Chic Cheer
C’est Chic by Chic is a fun album that instantly makes you want to dance. It sits right in that R&B space pushing into disco, with a great groove throughout, even if the storytelling is fairly simple and mostly built around classic chat-up lines. There are some genuinely iconic tracks here. Le Freak and I Want Your Love are brilliant, proper disco anthems that still hold up today and belong on any night out. They carry the album in many ways. Outside of those standout moments, the album does feel a bit flat at times. It doesn’t quite build or evolve as it goes on, and some of the tracks blend into each other. It’s enjoyable, but not something I’d go back to in full very often. Favourite tracks: Le Freak and I Want Your Love Least favourite tracks: Not a big fan of the slower ballads like At Last I Am Free and Savoir Faire is just very dull! Album artwork: Standard cover for the time, nothing particularly standout
An interesting fusion of 70s jazz and 80s electronic pop.
Classic sound, basically perfecting disco while still retaining a great deal of groove and feel across every element. But, Rodgers’ talents proved better used with songwriters trying to cop his sound and production know how. Here, it’s just a lot of the same.
Guitar and bass are fantastic.
Fun album with some standout tracks. Favourite track: Le Freak
The slow ones were actually nice surprises! There's a lot more to Chic that I thought, it turns out.
definitely got some groove
Loved the bounce and whimsy to this. Favourite track: Le Freak
Macht schon Laune. 7/10.
Kind of chill but quite repetitive. Liked le freak
кайфовое диско
54# LE FREAK thats that
Enjoyable! Though I prefer the less repetitive songs. Still, great music!
норм, но не впечатляет...
Bernard Edwards' squirrelly groovy bass and Nile Rodgers' signature jangly guitar buoy this disco/funk/R&B collection. Le Freak is the classic centerpiece, I Want Your Love is another decent single, the rest is a solid groove.
really groovy beats on the fun songs, and some ballads that don’t resonate with me as much, but obviously they knew how to make a song that got people dancing. in true disco fashion they absolutely made most of these songs too long but i get it. nile rodgers you will always be famous!! Fav tracks: Le Freak; I Want Your Love
Surprisingly familiar disco album
It’s ok
First time listening fully, but I have heard a couple of these tracks before. ‘Le Freak’ is massive but some other tracks missed the mark for me. Overall 3.25/5 overstayed its welcome a little
smelt it, dealt it rules.
Up-tempo tracks slap, not so much the slower tracks.
Great instrumentation, singing, and production. Especially love the strings and horns. But the lyrics are too repetitive and the songs could be shorter.
This was fun, but maybe not revolutionary? There are probably better disco albums.
Funky
Fun album! My favorites were "Le Freak" (ofc), "Savoir Faire", "I Want Your Love", "At Last I Am Free" and "Sometimes You Win"
Lovely vibe. Picked my cat up off my lap and we had a little dance around the living room to Le Freak. Expected this to be Le Freak plus seven fillers, but it was better than that. Savoir Faire was an enjoyable jam.
Groovy slice of 70’s.
heb dit niet helemaal geluisterd.
Several months ago this list was serving me a steady diet of funk records and I was kinda into it. At the time, I was also getting a lot of early new wave records (like Bowie ‘plastic soul’ stuff, and Talking Heads, etc.) so that primer on funk really helped me appreciate its influence on those later records. Now, after a bit of a break, I’m starting to get disco records and I'm surprisingly unenthusiastic about it. By 1978, Disco was a fully established genre - it had even died already if you believe some of the American punditry. I had to double check that I hadn’t already been given this record. I previously listened to 1979’s Risqué, which sounds very similar to this. I think I prefer “Good Times” to “Le Freak”, but otherwise this record feels more my tempo. Once you're past the first two tracks, this record contains a lot of more subdued groove tracks that feel closer to funk than a full-on disco assault. the 5 star system doesn't give me the flexibility for very nuanced rating, so this will get the same rating as Risqué, but know I'd give it another 1/2 star if I could.
its okay but not my fav 3/5
3 - groovy but that’s about it
Some nice sexy baseline disco and some chill ballads, neat!
based on the song i already knew from the album i was expecting to like this more, but i found the energy lulled in places, especially on at last i am free
this album started out strong and quickly fell off. first two tracks were the strongest imo, the rest I found to be boring and repetitive. groovy, but not catchy
Not too bad at all, most of it holds up with the singles
A couple of stone cold classics on this album. Generally a fairly relaxed and funky listen. Whilst I’m sure the technical musical composition is excellent, there were a few too many instrumental tracks to encourage me to return to this whole album in the future.
Some absolute classics, but the ballads are so boring that it throws the rhythm of the whole thing.
Enjoyed this less than I thought I would, unfortunately. The appeal of disco for me is its strong beat and energetic rhythms, and the fact that a lot of the songs on here were much more low-key made it much harder to listen to. Le Freak is still great though.
J'ai bien kiffé les sons bien discos groovy (les classiques en soit) et moins aimé les sons plus mélodiques et "tristes" donc au final c'est mid
interesting
I like Disco and appreciate this album for being creative and original but ultimately if leaves me wishing it was more than it is.
3.5
Y
what in the 80s workout class favorite song: le freak
Decent dance music, but a bit repetitive at times
The start of this album had a real jazzy feel to it. Definitely enjoyed the vibe of the first two tracks. I had no idea that THIS was the album which had Le Freak so that was a pleasant surprise. The jazzy feel continued for a few tracks before taking a shift into something a little bit more discotheque, but some kind of sultry disco? This album was an easy listen, not particularly something I’d choose, but decent for background.
Takes me back to late 1970's disco! I must be showing my age because it doesn't sound dated.
Reminds me of being at the roller rink as a youth
Cheesy funky fun. Think I enjoy them more when they aren’t singing however. The Want Your Love is a top single. Scraped a 3.
Hard not to have a boogie- Oogalu to this. Couple of misses on this album, but otherwise pretty sublime Go on Chic! High 3 And remember The whole world's a circus dont you be the clown.
Couple good songs was alright
Enjoyable, chilled, good vibes. Strong 3.
not opposed to disco in the Disco Sucks sense, but more in the sense that there are wires in my brain crossed a certain way as to make me enjoy grooves that are slower, more spacious, deeper. the rhythm section in these more uptempo songs is too quick, it glides along too cleanly along to really dig into anything a lot of this is context, of course - my kitchen with a glass of wine is the best way i'm willing to approximate a dancefloor on a sunday evening, but it's not the same. i'm sure Le Freak (burying the lede here - not a favorite!) goes nuts when you've mixed its plastic buoyancy with the sweat and skin of a crowd of beautiful people, and those Rodgers guitar licks are great absolutely anywhere pretty unreservedly in love with Savoir Faire (talk about slow, spacious, deep) and I Want Your Love, which uses the devotional aspects of gospel to make something hot and tense and desperate. otherwise, this is a respect-more-than-like situation, stunning musicianship without many songs i'd reach for day to day
Every bass line was awesome, but only Le Freak (amazing) and I Want Your Love (great) were actually above average as songs
Love
Okay, so this is where the classic "freak out" disco song originates. This is such a well known sound for disco, classic. So 3.
Nice light funk and great bass and rhythm guitar.
Really solid album, some real heat here, but also some misses. Nice to be exposed to a broader depth of a group's music than their one hit! 3/5
Disco classic
distinto a lo que suelo escuchar, me gustó
For a second i thought this list was finally gonna be inclusive and feature an album that's not American or British, but once again I'm proven wrong. I'm Eastern European so I have no idea if this was a popular band/ album. That wasn't the case in my country, I can tell you that much. I mean I know Le Freak, but that's about it. I was under the impression that it was a French song all my life. I don't care how influential this was for its time, I'm purely rating it based on how much I enjoy it. I feel like it would have been better if the songs were shorter because nothing really happens or take form throughout them. Like yeah, they sound nice, but it's the same thing for 5 minutes straight. Maybe the lack of more various lyrics in some songs also plays a part in this. I just don't feel like I gained anything after listening to this if it makes sense. It's a fine album. Groovy. Just not something I'd seek out to listen to.I enjoyed my time listening to this, I wish I could have enjoyed it even more.
I was surprised to see this album grace my list today. I don't recall Chic having a second list album. I listened to Risqué about 260 albums ago, which I thought was alright. The title track of that album occasionally pops into my head - the strings and funky instrumental are pretty good. I also kind of like it as a late-stage disco album. A final hurrah, if you will. There's a year's difference between the release of these two albums, so I'm not expecting much of a stylistic shift from what I'm used to. This album will likely be less minimal than Risqué and perhaps sample a few genres adjacent to disco, if I'm correctly picking up what's being put down by this album cover. Here goes. Nope. More of the same really, though there's a different air to this music. It's less regal, which is kind of a bummer as I did like the style of their previous album. What's here isn't as good, but it succeeds at being a pleasant listen. The jumpy bass is good across all of the tracks, whether it be in the foreground or background. There's also some solid vocal melodies in here and I like the more serene aspects of the instrumentation, particularly on "Savoir Faire". It's an arbitrary point of criticism as it is very much the point, but a general gripe I have with this album is that it's quite restrained. The instrumentals are generally quite repetitious, there isn't much in the way of nuanced instrumentation and many of these songs are peppered with vast stretches of dead air. Obviously, dance music isn't a genre that is necessarily meant to be listened to, but it's a bummer all the same that I can't get as much from this album as I'd like. Overall, this was fine. Just a little vacuous. I've heard "Le Freak" before, unsurprisingly. I think I first heard it in Madagascar or some other movie I watched when I was a kid*, though I imagine I've been exposed to it elsewhere as well. I've always viewed it as the quintessential disco song. It's an alright tune. Definitely winning big on the iconic factor as I think the song is a little flat otherwise. The funky bass is good and I like the strings that appear later in the track, but the general melody is too empty for me. However, as something to groove along to at the local dancehall, it does fulfill its purpose pretty well. There's a good bit of fluidity in the instrumental. Book time. "Modern dance music is indebted to Chic." A "key band" in the disco era. Their most successful album. It's two lead singles breached the Billboard top 10. Le Freak "...anticipated the post-punk guitar style...", apparently. The bass on this album has also been sampled by hip-hop musicians, softwarearently. A lot of variety. The book then talks about their tumble from the charts after Risqué and said the push against disco was "...implicitly racist." I think people just grew tired of disco after it dominated the airwaves for an upwards of two years. That being said, the downfall of disco is kind of interesting to me. I can't think of another time where the common man successfully toppled an entire subculture like that. I guess boycotting does work. For that reason, I'm favourable to this album. I haven't come across any disco albums (aside from Sister Sledge) yet, and it's certainly a genre worthy of immortalisation. If Chic really are the best of the bunch, which I can believe they are, then I'm favourable to two albums of theirs being on the list. I cosign this inclusion. * Cool footnote because we do those now. I looked it up, and Le Freak apparently appeared in Toy Story 3, which I don't remember being the case at all. When I pitched Madagascar as the potential movie, I was actually thinking of "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge, which appeared in one of the Ice Age movies. Royal blunders all around. Just shut the review down at this point.
Funky fun but Le Freak whipes out the rest of the album tbh
maybe i just love a Funky bass
loved this
First disco album I've listened to in full, and there were definitely highs and lows. The start of this record was pretty promising, but I was really disappointed with the second half. Lots of long songs with some promise, but not enough energy to maintain my interest through the whole thing. Definitely not writing off disco as a whole because of this or anything, but not the way I wanted to be introduced to the genre. Favorite Songs: "Le Freak", "Savoir Faire" Least Favorite Song: "At Last I Am Free" Low 3.
Fun, the type of 80s music I'd actually listen too. It wasn't too much
First time listening - only song I knew going in was Le Freak (which is certainly top end disco). I enjoyed Savoir Faire, I Want Your Love and Sometimes You Win. The rest were decent - not my favorite album but not bad by any stretch.
meget funky og hygge - "le freak" er lidt blevet en lollet shrek sang for mig, men resten var nice
3.5, liked more than I expected. Fun album!
I recognized Le Freak and I Want Your Love. At Last I Am Free almost completely took me out of this album. Thankfully, the last two tracks were bangers.
They have pretty much nailed down this genre haven’t they? Fun and groovy.
Freak out
Classic tunes by Nile Rogers and company. Many of these hooks have been sampled over and over again.
Some classic sounds from the 70's. Disco, jazz, r&b. nice.
Decent. Feels like I’m in a department store though
Good to hear their other stuff besides Le Freak (I can't stand that song). Long-ass grooves that you can get lost in...in a good way!
I still haven't met a disco album that I enjoy. I can appreciate that it was likely fun to dance to and I acknowledge that was its function. As a genre to listen to, the music is too repetitive for my tastes. Still glad to listen to what is considered a top example of the genre, even if it mostly cemented my thoughts about it.
le freak 😛
Not much to get excited about outside of Le Freak and I Want Your Love, although Happy Man features some fantastic bass playing and sounds like a precursor to the Nile Rodgers penned We Are Family.
Chic Cheer - 2.5/5 Le Freak - 4/5 Savoir Faire -2/5 Happy Man - 3/5 I Want Your Love - 4/5 At Last I Am Free - 3.5/5 Sometimes You Win - 4.5/5 (Funny) Bone - 2/5
Phonkeeeeey
Likes: instrumental solos are insane, when they want to be; pulls off that neat trick of sounding simple if you’re listening casually, but gets very interesting with a closer listen; grooves and timing are immaculate; guitars are fantastic Dislikes: often stays in the same groove too long and becomes boring; a little to jazzy for my ears Overall, not much I dislike; I can appreciate it, but it’s just not for me since it vamps in the same vibe for too long, too often
Happy Man is awesome. Great guitar. Still not a fan of ballads.
6/10 - good disco
So fun! definitely an uplifting 70s disco energy. Very groovy and upbeat.
highlights every night
The whole thing sure is well made and Chic know how to play. But man, I do not care about that kind of music.
The Saturday night DJ at a club I worked at during undergrad used to play Le Freak all the time. Haven’t heard in many years. Great nostalgia.
Passé good grooves, but after listening to funkadelic falls a little short, definitely some great moments on the album though
I enjoyed this more than I thought. The music and the grooves were great overall. A few clunkers that I didn’t enjoy but overall a positive experience. 3.5/5
I knew the two famous songs of course. The rest of the album is decent enough but I probably won't listen to this again.
70s disco funk. I dont like Le Freak, and most of hergestellt the music here is similar, but there is some good musicianship to be found here.
I never heard this R&B band before. Good album
Funk meets disco
I’ve definitely heard le freak in a movie or something, but not sure where
Very catchy, not to my style but will get stuck in your head.
Good but not my jam.
3.5/5. One where I didn’t recognize it at first but then the song “Le Freak” came on and I immediately realized this is one of those records I’ve absolutely heard songs from but just never knew who it was by. And this is quite a good record, some quality disco music here. Especially liked “I want your love” and the closer “(funny) bone.”
# C'est Chic, by CHIC (Imagine it’s 5am in a small sweaty basement party. White curtains drape softly from the high ceilings down to the floor. NY DJ duo Musclecars having started at 11pm, changing the mood, have just turned the dance floor open with the organic, visceral, nostalgic love energy with an extended edit of CHIC’s “I Want Your Love”. You might be coming up on your second pill of the night. You ask me, “Why is this song so good but the album is so cheesy?”. I swear I wanna keep it brief cuz we both just came here to dance. Aglow and mind streaming with ecstasy, I apparently have a lot to say and also may or may not have done my research.) “For a band assembled by a partnership of New York's powerhouse Disco hitmen, I found myself irritated and wanting more. Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers have their writing and playing talents behind scores of excellent Disco singles. Further, once sampling (credited or uncredited) gets involved in the amount of music the two are responsible for, we might owe them the modern western world. For all this, I really should have less to pick at in C'est Chic, by CHIC. As someone who loves and collects Disco records, and has spent too many (no, not enough) evening and morning hours at this altar of Klipschorn speakers where in this lived moment Disco is finding continued breath, life, and renewal. Listening to the album, I found more irritation than I was expecting. I own C'est Chic. I'm familiar with it. I don't think I've ever put it on for the purpose of attentive listening and taking in the songs collected for an album. On a purist level, I think LPs are inherently at odds with Disco finding bodies to give it life through dancing. It feels absurd to sit in my car, at my desk, or in front of my stereo and hear someone telling me about a dance I should be doing. But that’s part of the Rock and Roll lineage, isn’t it? Doing the Twist. I never hate to hear Prince shouting out dance instructions in “Housequake,” no matter where I’m listening. So why should I care about “Freak Out”? I think it’s how well the Disco is made. It’s so damn clean it’s almost sterile. It follows that C'est Chic was a collection of songs probably initially conceived for singles, and then assembled into an album for selling in the market of other LPs. So why does the album feel like Disco Disney and this song feels so damn vital and timeless. I understand that there was high merit in expressing the sophistication possible in Disco. I also wonder to what degree this album is as meant for white suburban record players. I mean, the lyrics to “At Last I am Free” are pretty awesome. I didn’t even realize how cool that song was until I heard Robert Wyatt’s cover. Why do you think they couldn’t see in front them? Is it like emerging from Plato’s cave? Or maybe they are just really fucking high! What do you think? Oh you were just dancing and smiling and I don’t think you could actually hear me. Yeah, I’ll stop talking and let’s keep dancing…” (This is a fictional story that contains some loosely formed opinions I had on this album. I actually very much dislike to talk on the dancefloor.)
Not one of the best disco albums we have listened to so far, I much preferred the Sister Sledge album. This album felt very slow and some of the songs felt like they went on for a little too long.
Le Freak, C'est Chic 1001 Albums Generator 213 (1/26/2025) Another instance of "ohhhh, it's that song". An album full of really lush disco tracks that all feel about a minute too long. Additionally, while songs like Chic Cheer, Le Freak, and I Want Your Love are all great examples of the genre, the slower moments here were really killing me. The worst offender is the 7 minute At Last I Am Free, which honestly feels twice as long as it is. Also worth noting is the instrumental Savior Faire, which has an amazing guitar solo that I was not expecting at all. So, like the Sister Sledge album I listened to lately, I found C'est Chic to be a pretty good example of disco, with a couple of boring songs that wore me out from disco by the end. It's too bad, because the good songs here are really quite good. It's probably a 3.5/5, rounded down to a 3. Favs: Chic Cheer Le Freak I Want Your Love Least Fav: At Last I Am Free
6/10
A fun, bass-heavy romp that makes you want to dance, take cocaine and dance more. Isn't that what disco and funk are for?
First Listen; 3.5; Enjoyable album. Very lush sounds and easy to listen to, but still fun and doesn't fade into background music. Favorite Track: Le Chic
Pretty good all round, nothing special. Savoir faire slaps
This is an album that was definitely written for clubs and isn't really meant for casual listening. A lot of the songs go on just a bit too long and don't offer any changes to keep the consistent beat for dancers. That said, there were some tracks here I did genuinely enjoy. Of course everyone knows Le Freak, but Savoir Faire had some really nice guitar playing and was a neat instrumental track, and (Funny) Bone was a fun one as well. Probably not something I'd return to, but a solid enough little album that carries the disco spirit in an easy to digest package.
Some decent songs.
Love a little disco 3.5
le freak was good but the other ones (that I listened to) were just instrumentals but one was kinda fire
Fun disco, but probably wouldn’t reach for it again
3.
Classic disco.
If only all disco was like this... The bass on this album fucks hard. Way too groovy for mortal men. The guitar work in Savior Faire is inspired. First half of the album is stronger than the back half, but it's still a pretty solid listen all the way through.
C’est Chic is just a really enjoyable record. It sounds clean, confident, and effortless. Nothing feels rushed or overdone. The grooves are tight and everything feels funky. I like how relaxed it feels while still being sharp. I put it on and let it run without thinking too much about it. It is stylish, fun, and ahead of its time
I can see why this album is memorable due to its one iconic song, but the rest are just vibey and fun 80s music. It’s a good album, but not something I would consider that important.
Songs go on too long, however this is enjoyable and not half as dated as I thought it'd be. Solid album.

6/10 Favourite: Sometimes You Win Least Favourite: Le Freak
*1978 *Le Freak is the big song here. *Super fun album. RATING - 6.5/10
This is the third or fourth album in the past couple weeks that I was fully expecting to dislike, but came away pleasantly surprised. I love the jangly, funky guitar and the bass is super smooth. However, some of the songs get a bit too repetitive and long; At Last I Am Free in particular was getting on my nerves by the end. There’s definitely a time and place for this music. That said, if I ever magically happened to find myself in a disco club in the late 70s, I’d hightail it out of there and head straight to CBGBs instead
Some bops for real but not really my vibe, prob won’t come back to it. My mom would love it tho she was a disco queen. Little too repetitive/instrumental for me. Maybe would be more into it if it was playing live and it was the summer and I was dancing around in the sun with a margarita and never had to open Microsoft Outlook ever again. But I was listening at work and it maybe helped me vibe to some emails? Idk man
Sheik would love this album. Also I had no idea the FREAK OUT song was called Le Freak. I'm already educated. RATING: 1000/1000 hours of boogying
A fun listen! But I did skip over Le Freak because it's so prevalent still. And it's stuck in my head even without listening
For like sanger
fun
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA FRICAUT KKKKK dahorinha
Good funk. Great disco! Better than most.
Swinging 70s sounds. Not bad.
Soms erg leuk, soms best saai. Vrolijk. 2 liedjes kende ik al
Nice disco/dance vibe Oh wait I know chic cheer Le freak i enjoy Songs are kinda repetitive and long but I guess if you actually dance to them it’s different than just listening like that
I wasn't into disco in the 70's. My junior high self felt I was way too cool for this. This has the classic Le Freak, which is a fun song, but the rest of the album is pretty bland.
I’m more into 2000-2010’s bands but the good thing is now I know the name of the band who plays this iconic songs (just not my type of music but they’re great)
Meh
Disco is fine I guess
This album was fun to listen to. I def liked some songs more than others. I enjoyed the funky vibe and varied lengths
Solid disco album. But not something I would choose to listen to. Obviously Le Freak is an excellent song, but one great song doesn’t make a great album and the rest are unknown for a reason and get pretty repetitive.
Knew this would be a fun album with that funky bass. I enjoyed it but it’s a real disco time capsule and the lyrics are very basic and repetitive, although I don’t think they’re taking themselves seriously. Wouldn’t return to it but still a good time!
3/5 disco hits in here but also just repetitive dance music
Good.
Good Album, with some good grooves
Some songs felt longer than necessary but I enjoyed them all
One song added to my favs and it wasn't Le Freak. Really enjoyed Savoir Faire. Disco/Funk are not really my genes but this was pleasant enough. 3/5
Pretty good.
basic disco with a more rnb style, interesting but all incredibly similar and hard to tell apart. really long songs also. best: at last i am free OR le freak worst: chic cheer
Day 139 Few really fun tracks here but not sure I’d return to the full album 6/10 Le Freak Happy Man I want your Live
funky!
It was good, I enjoyed it but wouldn’t be a regular listen for me.
THAT’S Chic
The disco here is great...the R&B is not (see: Savoir Faire, At Last I Am Free...of that song). Funny Bone was a great closer that actually pulled me back up from a 2 to a 3 on this.
Foundational disco, not my thing but not terrible and contains some classic samples.
Good shower album
Chic cheer : too repetitive at start but loved the bridge and last verse Le freak : a feel good song, fun, catchy Savoir faire: I don’t really listen to pure instrumental songs, but surprising loved it Happy man: it’s alright didn’t really catch my attention I want your love : one of my favourite songs on album, I could listen to it over and over At last I am free : slow, but its my second fave , maybe a bit too long Sometimes you win : makes you wanna dance , loved it as well (Funny)bone : again basically all instrumental but love the message at the end. {favourites} - at last I am free - Le freak - I want your love - sometimes you win
Yes, the lyrics consist of the same 70s—80s bar pickup lines but the songs move me. Classic disco, classic jazz, classic jams. A solid album for a funky night!
It's fine. Not my genre but I can appreciate why it was so popular.
I can't say I've ever listened to a full disco album before. An impressive number of artists have been influenced by this band, and here I am not knowing their name! What a groovy pick for a Friday. And after 17 albums, there are women present! For all my ignorance, the second I read the name of the album, I didn't just see the words. I heard *le freak...c'est chic!*
7/10
Cute, love the instrumentals, but most songs are too long and too similar.
Fun but not a regular listen
More than just disco....but still mostly disco.
C'est quand même un peu mieux quand toutes les chansons durent pas 8 minutes.
Pretty fun
FØNK Gud The balls on Nile Rodgers making default guitar tone his signature sound lol
Classic disco fun. Better to dance to this album than listen.
Nice. Couple of bangers, most tracks a bit too repetitive for me. But nice.
Les 6 premières chansons sont bcp trop ressemblantes
- down to earth disco vibes - reminds of toy story (le freak) - perfect easy afternoon vibes - in love type of feels 7/10
Chic is one of those massive disco groups that I only know of from their big singles ("Le Freak", "Good Times"). I wasn't alive during the peak of disco in America, so not too much of a reason for me to have sought out that music. But I'll be honest, I do enjoy listening to disco music. It scratches the funk itch that always exists within me and is just simply fun (isn't that the point?). Focusing on the album in question here, this could be considered a breakout of sorts for Chic. The previously mentioned "Le Freak" is one of the few tracks synonymous with disco as a concept, so I'd say it stands the test of time. Things get a tad repetitive and long thereafter, but can't ignore the sleek guitar work from Nile Rodgers all throughout.
timeless record
Groovy
