⭐️⭐️⭐️ Disco album. Had a few catchy songs. I liked Le Freak, I Want your love, and Happy Man. The rest was alright. Funny bone was kind of annoying with all the stupid laughing, but it had a really good baseline. So I wish the laughing didn’t exist… that is all.
This couldn’t sound more late 70s
Chic Cheer 3.4 Le Freak 3.5 Savoir Faire 3.6 Happy Man 3.5 I Want Your Love 3.5 At Last I Am Free 2.7 Sometimes You Win 3 (Funny) Bone 2.8 Score: 3.25
not bad
Some fun songs on here. The slower songs didn’t really do it for me. The vocals and the bass playing are fantastic. 3.5/5 Might listen again
A few classics on here, but I cannot listen to this much disco in a row.
Enjoyable for a relic of the past.
I diggit. Dropped down to 3 stars given all the great albums piling into the 4s.
How can you hear "FREAK OUT!" and not smile? Some of the album is disco perfection (crying out to be sampled) and some of it feels like very technically accomplished backing tracks.
I would imagine that this album is on the list just because of Le Freak. It's definitely a standout but the whole album is good. Fantastic guitar and bass throughout, but that's what you'd expect from Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards. Maybe a little too much this-is-the-same-as-the-last-song going on, but it's a good album to have playing in the background while doing other things. The last half kind of falls off for me a little so I'm giving this one a flat 3/5.
Didnt really stick
vibey
Listened to the first two songs and liked them well enough. Didn’t really feel like coming back to it but might sometime.
Fun bass lines on some songs. Others were dreadfully repetitive, both musically and lyrically. Can't say that's necessarily bad, given that it's dance music, though.
A good blend of rock, dance, and jazz. Instrumentation is really good, but lyrics are so repetitive that they make the music sound repetitive after awhile. Le Freak is the only song I heard from this album before so it was a nice taste of Chic. Not sure I have to dive too deep though. 6/10
Le freak and I Want Your Love are obviously well known. The rest are a bit repetitive.
Chic was good at what they did, particularly guitarist Nile Rodger and Bernard Edward’s on bass, both of whom were just as legendary in rap remixes/samples as they were in disco. I listened to this album a few months ago as I had found it in a record store and was considering it. There are some classic vibes on here: le Freak; I Want Your Love; Happy Man! These are the songs that made the generation. There are some others that, though played well, lack the same vibe-ability, and get redundant. If I was doing lines off the bar above the neon floor in a polyester suit with my pompadour waving like my pointed fingers hailing the heavenly gods above, this entire album would rock. That’s not the case. Overall, I learned I am a Best of Chic kind of guy. Respect to them for being the best of the genre, just not my preferred genre.
If you want 80’s disco catchy vibes, this is for you! It’s fun but not particularly my vibe besides Savoir Faire. I probably won’t listen to this again but I do acknowledge that it’s good writing for what it is
A mining area for samples to put in your techno music. The funky guitar and bass are pleasant but the lyrics are simple and some songs go on for a bit too long.
It’s fairly good, but repetitive. The songs feel like they are all too long. There are a couple of classics, and the musicianship can’t be denied, buuuut it’s just too repetitive
1. Chic Cheer - decent 7 2. Le Freak - lite 8 3. Savoir Faire - lite 7 4. Happy Man - strong 7 5. I Want Your Love - decent 7 6. At Last I Am Free - lite 7 7. Sometimes You Win - decent 7 8. (Funny) Bone - lite 7 Favourite 3 Tracks - 1. Le Freak 2. Happy Man 3. Sometimes You Win - NOTE RATINGS ARE FROM A FIRST LISTEN -
Good album, funky, a number of great tunes. Some are a bit dull, though
This album did not age well.
Not bad. Maybe a little too repetitive. Highlights include: “Le Freak” “At Last I Am Free”
3.3/5
Ok funk songs, but all longer than they need to be with incredibly shallow lyrics featuring random French buzz words
Not my favorite genre of music, but there was some fun to be had there.
It sounds generic and outdated to me.
Not one of my favorite types of music, but this is easy to listen to.
A fun like upper-vlass club sort of disco sound. Not my jam, but a fun deviation for 40 mins. Le freaks is fun obviously, but i loved the beat of chic freak and the rest of the album was pretty fun. 3/5 stars.
Beyond the very famous tracks, it’s okay. As a professional clown, get bent.
Nice variety of music; contains the infamous "le freak". Was not a fan of the first song. I especially like their use of violin, very unique. Many of the songs definitely got me swaying or bopping, but lyrics were often very redundant, which I am not a fan of.
Remember going to a disco in Cherry Hill NJ when ^le freak^ was the hottest dance out there. Good album, but I wouldn't ever think of it when naming "best albums."
Great at what they do and very perky
Quite enjoyed this. Obviously captures a moment in time, but the grooves are undeniable.
Le Freak
Enjoyable funk. A bit one-note
Nice album, but there’s on song that is just really annoying (to my ears). It lasts forever for no reason.
I had never heard this whole album before, but it was quite good!
Good just a bit drawn out
Classic 70’s pop. I grew up hearing this, so it brought great memories!
One of the best funk records on the list. Strong 3
Great musicianship and singing is excellent. It's easy to see why Nile became a great periodic because he's not a songwriter.
Bass was good, but all the songs could have been half as long.
Disco Music. First? 3,5/5 Again? 2/5
Defined disco. However there was a bit of forgettable cack on there
I can't tell if this kind of music is aware of its silliness or if disco took itself seriously back then. Because music can be repetitive and the lyrics can be strangely basic. "At Last I am Free" might be the most monotonous song I've ever heard. 7 minutes of the same line being sung over and over in slightly different ways. "(Funny) Bone" was also bizarrely monotonous with the same repeating few measures over and over with little variation.
Fun but songs lasted a little too long and weren’t that memorable
I HATED the first two songs, but Nile Rodgers is a legend. While a little too straightforward disco for me, there are a few bangers mixed in with the blandness. (Savior Faire, At Last I am Free
There are some highs and lows to this. Some of the songs are too repetitive but it makes for good background music. I was surprised by how much I was enjoying it by the end.
Groovy with some tasty guitar licks. Liked the song happy man and the somber "at last I am free"
Pretty groovy
The groove is strong with this one, though it feels more like a list of singles than a cohesive album, which I guess is a net positive when discussing a disco album designed for radio play. The lyrics are pretty vapid and the vocals aren’t doing much for me either. 3.2/5
I didn't realize how many hits they had
Cool riffs.
This was interesting. In some ways its hard not hear these songs and just assume they're the equivalent of a Microsoft stock screensaver. I've heard some of these songs so much throughout my life that I didn't even realize that a real artist or band even made them. (Chic Cheer, Le Freak, I Want Your Love, Funny Bone.) So when you hear it all the way through, it kind of makes you chuckle. And then on top of that, finding out that the band is called CHIC and they incorporate "chic" into like every song in some way or another is hilarious. It's a little over the top cheesy. In fact, almost every song on this album is cheesy. The fact that in Funny Bone there is a laugh track going on in the background the whole time until you get a weird motivational speech?! Its hard for me to listen to this with fresh ears, but if I tried, I'm hearing a lot of joy and celebration. Its kind of meant to cheesy and fun. Its meant to feel like you're at a house party in the Hampton (doing coke in the bathroom?) or going down to the beach. Which is a fun and I can see what they're going for. It also solidifies why this music shows up everywhere. It's kind of agnostic towards anything besides being very surface level fun. And I guess sometimes humans need that.
so chic
if you looked up "disco" in the dictionary, this album would play like one of those singing birthday cards
Favorite Track: Savoir Faire
6/10 The album is alright, however most songs are pretty forgettable. Favourite tracks: Le Freak I want your love Least favourite: Savoir Faire At last I am free
Chic have some great singles but not sure they're an albums band, based on this. It's alright but the two hits stand out much more strongly than the fillers and I was a little bored in the last 3 tracks. Love Nile Rodgers' guitar playing though
It's okay and very danceable
Freak so chic
Have never heard this album before. The best songs on this album still resonate and don't sound dated. It's a lot of fun, and very enjoyable. The quality starts to fall off the last 3 songs, but still a good listen.
I learned (or, at least, was taught) to disco with Le Freak so this song has a special place in my memory.
Aah...a visit to the disco era and a young Nile Rodgers. Is Donna Summer next on the list? Good times... Just one more thing Remember the whole world's a circus Don't you be the clown
Really great music, instrumentals are fantastic. But the songs do get a bit samey and are long.
As with most Chic records, it's hard to not be impressed by how tight the grooves are, but I found there to be a bit of a lack of variety from song to song to really enjoy this beyond that
This album made me realize electronic music is like the successor to Disco. Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
Fun!
Lyrics are repetitive. Music is disco catchy, but can also be a little repetitive. Second to last song is painfully awful and really makes the album end on a shitty note.
Ok, classic disco song in it. I like some disco, this album doesn't hit it for me though
Nile Rodgers! Brilliant, Chic somehow walked the line just above Disco. Some great funk rhythms.
Some good songs, groovy
Any album with la Freak is great.
Fun album with very impressive instrumental, just a bit samey for me so I’d probably prefer hearing the odd track on shuffle rather than listening to the whole album.
At time repetitive but overall I liked it.
Unmistakable sound of Niles Rogers written all over it, incredible how the man has strived through the decades making tunes that frankly anyone could get a groove on to. Le Freak & Everybody Dance would be a core ingredient to a proper disco night for all to enjoy. The album bounces along smoothly and nicely for a very easy inoffensive listen.
What they do, they do well. But without being danced to, it's very repetitive.
Inégal. Quelques pépites disco (Le Freak, I want your Love)
I like the general vibe and sound of this album, but the tracks suffer from feeling overly repetitive and overly long. It's noticeable right away on "Chic Cheer," which plays like a 4-minute introduction to a song that never actually arrives. I'd still say it seems like a worthy inclusion to the 1,001 list, as a good representative of the disco genre.
not sure i’d call this timeless, but it is a good time capsule of sorts. i also appreciate that it deviates from the norm of this collection. alas, probably won’t be returning to this one highlights: le freak, i want your love, sometimes you win (apr 30 2026)
Nile Rodgers is a funky man.
It’s not 3 stars but it’s also not 4 stars. I don’t like the limitation of 5 stars and no halves! It was good, funky but nothing amazing.
Albumi #115, 20.11.2024 Maailman tunnetuinta discofunkkia.
le freak cest chic fr
So disco, disco, disco. But also nice. But not nice enough. But still you can listen to it and smile and think back to former times.
Since there are only a few tracks on this record and it stills clocks in at 42 minutes long, some of them tend to drag. That being said, this was a very fun disco record. Some iconic and danceable grooves throughout, it will surely keep your feet moving the whole time. Notable Tracks: - Le Freak - I Want Your Love 6/10
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-
they've got like 10 minutes of content but 42 minutes of album runtime still sounds nice
I liked this well enough. It felt a little repetitive and a little long, which isn’t surprising since it’s disco. “Le Freak” and “I Want Your Love” are great songs, and the instrumentation and vocals are fantastic throughout the whole album. Nile Rodgers is such a talent, and it shows. Overall this album is pretty good, especially for the genre.
Really fun record.
Very classy disco and soul. The nostalgia kicked in quickly, and I was grinning the whole way through.

Disco is wild. What a time to be alive. I was not thrilled about this, but then instantly recognized the big hit "le freak" on this record. Disco is fine and has a place as long as it's not something you listen to often. This is probably as good as it gets though.
hmm. not sure what to expect here. Sounds like disco! okay...I could probably use some of this today. Oh WTF!? I know Le Freak. That's a classic! It was a nice change of music. But only a 3 here. Would have given 3.5 if I could.
Instrumentally this is great, and the bass is just fantastic. A big shout out to the producer too. By my god is it repetitive, most notably in the lyrics. I can't help feeling if they had put some more time into the lyrics that this would be absolute dynamite.
You can do much worse than having your hit song be about being denied entrance to Studio 54 bc Grace Jones forgot to put you on the door list.
immaculate vibes
Every song was inoffensive but WAY too long.
More fun than I expected
I'm trying to imagine the use case for Chic Cheer. Is this what you put on when you're trying to get people to dance? It's groovy, then it's boring. Strong points: the funky beat, the strings. Low points: the lyrics.
Fun
Good music but my god it gets repetitive.
Not really for me but there are several catchy songs. I really enjoyed the solos in 'savoir faire'. Not a record I would purchase, but not something I would turn off if it was playing either.
3.8. Disco heaven
I had a theory that any artist who chants or shouts their own name in any of their songs makes bad music. This album tested that theory. Overall I enjoyed it but it's not without flaws. The guitar and bass were both grooves hell but a lot of the songs got very repetitive.
Le Freak is a god damn classic. This album makes me want to be at the party in "The Nice Guys" and just be drunk and dancing with the mermaids.
3/5, songs are good but way to long for me Fav song: Le freak
Pretty generic disco (but may have been groundbreaking for its time). Got a bit samey
Definitely liked this more than I thought I would
It was ok
Some classic 70s disco here. Couple hits for sure.
🎧Le Freak gets all the attention but I Want Your Love is the real highlight here. At Last I Am Free is 7 mins 8 seconds long which is about 8 minutes too long.
It took me my second listen through to fully understand what this album is. It’s nothing groundbreaking. Purely an album that existed in the disco era and succeeded at being a disco album. To my ears, many of the tracks came off stale and boring, even if the majority of the record was solidly produced. Once I went through again and understood how repetition was being used, tracks like the intro began to make more sense to me. Even though I’m not head over heels for this album by any stretch, there is some fantastic stuff on here, notably “At Last I Am Free” and the following “Sometimes You Win.” Those are easily the two most worthwhile on here, and you do have to commend the smash hit “Le Freak,” which is cool to actually see the origin of
Good funk/disco, not really my thing
As far as disco goes, this was alright. Lots of songs that I recognized, so the iconic status made it an interesting listen. Probably won't listen again though.
Every song just. Drags. On. For. Way. Too. long. It's decent enough for disco Must of been some good blow 7/10
Good instrumentals, very very cringe lyrics. When they aren't repeating the same phrase for 2 minutes the vocals sound like a parody song a middle school would make up on the spot. All of the instruments have a great groove and sound really good, I just wish that the vocals had more thought put into them. Mid 3.
There was a few good tracks on here. I can't say it was the most exciting play through. It's very stereotypical disco music. I didn't realize these guys do that Freak Out song though so that's cool. You've probably heard their other hits while walking through a Walgreens.
I will always enjoy the bass lines on “Freak out”
Meh. One or two songs I would listen to again. I need to read the significance of this album and why it was included to understand more
Best wel groovy en nice
The slow ones were a bit cheesy for me, and the quick ones were great to walk with. It’s sounds like the musicians had a lot of fun doing their thing, I can imagine them being really in the zone. I was surprised at how familiar ‘I want your love’ and ‘freak out’ were. I’m going for 3/5 only because it’s not my thing, not because it isn’t well produced cohesive music
Good
It’s no Risqué but still a decent album with some great bass guitar work. 3.5 stars
Such long endings and some solids but not a big fan
BEST SONGS: - Savoir Faire - I Want Your Love
That last song is one of the creepiest things I've ever listened to
smooth
Nile Rodgers makes this album worthwhile. The songs seem to go a little long and the album’s fun begins to wane a little since I’m not coked up in a club dancing.
Sept. 11, 2024 Ah yes, Le Freak. Groovy. I actually don't like that song much. I think cartoons and animated shows ruined it. Okay At Last I Am Free is driving me crazy!!!! Terrible and annoying! Also funny bc I could listen to Daft Punk's Around the World for hours so I feel like a hypocrite. But I need a groovy bass line then! Ah! I wanted to like it more than I actually did ): 3/5
I was never much of a disco fan back in the day, but the talent here is undeniable.
3⭐ Clearly good, just not my vibe, repetitive.
A second CHIC album!? My opinion is much like the first. "Le Freak", the main hit, I find annoying but many of the other songs are quite good. My favourite being "I Want Your Love". Funky and fun. Someone should really add some rhymes to this.... 3 star.
Freak Out! This album may not have aged all that well, but believe me that song was ICONIC. An important bit of disco history.! Enough to get this album an extra star.
Not really a disco person, but recognise they are the top of their game. Some catchy, well written tunes. 3/5
Fun funky album.
Varhaista soittelua... Flirting with the potential... Flirting is showing only a small frac....zzzz.... Z.......z.z.......z......Nukuttaa kun ei lyödä kovaa tässä.... Kutittelu albu....
A little boring, but good sounding discofunk.
Fun enough for disco, I guess.
Pretty cool by disco standards, but sometimes repetitive.
That was fun - Chic Cheer my favourite (Le Freak is great of course, but I have just heard it too many times)
Freak is a great one. But generally this music gets old to me. Solid production. Disco is mostly a 3 for me.
Man I wish they turned Savoir Faire into a full album. The instruments (especially the bass) are fantastic. Most of these tracks would benefit from being cut in half though. 3/5
Le Freak was catchy and I found myself nodding along to a lot of the tracks :)
I freaked out when I listened to this disco album. I reminded me of all the crazy music used in 70’s dramas.
You know its well put together, but its not my thing
Some are groovy, some are meh....
Le Freak!
I like CHIC and some of the songs are great. But others were dated and very repetitive.
3.125
The disco-funk-jazz hybrid was quite good, but this felt like 15 minutes of music stretched out to 50
I really wish I liked this more.
The groundwork for so much of what was to come, from samples of ‘Le Freak’, to Donovan frankenreiter and the “Happy Feet” soundtrack from ‘Happy Man’, to just about every pop song that we love to hate on but secretly love at some level.
A classic
it was ok. nothing overly memorable aside from the singles.
Fine. Nothing too essential. Would be good to dance to. Appreciate the instrumentation. Always fun to listen for the grohl influences in disco.
Pretty funky. Le Freak is a classic.
Love the instrumentals. Lyrics felt a little goofy in a few places. Overall pretty fun but not an everyday kind of listen for me.
Kind of not as upbeat as I'd hope for since it kind feels repetitive or at least boring in some way to me.
Guitar tone is so strong. Guitar solo on “savoir fare” had me thinking about the drum solo on “Aja:” I didn’t want it to end.
As a child of the 70s, I really enjoyed this one.
groovy man
It feels wrong to be snooty about the marvellous Niles Rodgers and a band that have been so important and influential in disco and pop. But this is half an album only. Two amazing songs, but as a whole it's fairly uneven.
Listened Before? N For what they are, Chic is a killer band. 70's disco/dance tracks including a couple of classics here. Enjoyed this one. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Le Freak
Great album, fine example of 1970's funk and soul
Couple of all time classic songs and the rest is pretty good. Nile Rogers rocks.
It was ok
I liked the two hits I knew and I generally have good feelings about Edwards-Rogers, and the rest was OK.
This was a fun little album to listen to. I liked disco more than I thought I would. 3/5
60/100 Good disco album with a classic song. Some of the songs do seem to drag on for a bit and the intro is incredibly boring
Le Freak is the strong standout, but every other song slightly overstays its welcome.
I had another of CHIC's albums on here before (Risque). This album has that song Le Freak on it which is solid. The rest of the album was mediocre. The thing I hate about disco is the music is funky and usually fairly solid, but they sing a chorus, then keep repeating it for like 5 minutes and call it a song. The music has no substance. It always feels to me like they spend 95% of their time making the music and then go.... Oh yeah, we need lyrics..... Favourite songs: Le Freak, Happy Man Least favourite songs: At Last I Am Free, (Funny) Bone (I Don't need a song which is almost 4 minutes of people laughing. No one does). 3/5
I dug the disco/funk vibes, but many tracks suffered from repetitive hooks and a lack of development. Also, songs tended to drag on longer than needed, usually simply looping the instrumental backing track without vocals, sometimes including a lackluster guitar solo. Didn’t age well in the genre, considering its contemporaries.
Le Freak carrea el album.
I get Le Freak is really famous, but it's really bland. Good for bg music, not so much for active listening. Some songs were quite good tho, just not the highest regarded ones
Solid disco album. Didn't know I knew a song by this band. Not my absolute favorite though.
3 stars
Party tunes...
First four tracks are fun and danceable. Then the table turns, and we get three boring and repetitive songs, before the album enda with a dance. 3 stars, quite fun
Overall not bad, just funky. Happy Man was a jam. This band had waaay more hits than I remembered.
Funk & Disco is not really my kind of thing but I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. Le Freak is a great track and the rest are ok as well and Nile Rogers is someone who's talent I have a lotof respect for. My main criticism is that all the tracks felt too long.
Funky and fun, but not a lot stuck out to me. Don't really love the disco scene, I like moderately funky jams and some funky bass in my shit but this is a lot to digest.
Nice groove through out, liked it more than I thought I would. Was good for a listen. Will I listen to again: 25%
Really enjoyed the familiarity of "le freak" after hearing a sample from it in bbno$'s new single "lil' freak". Another standout was “I want your love” which was pretty cool. Other than that, it did get a bit repetitive so I have capped it at 3 stars.
3/5 very enjoyable
Couple of good songs, but not something that I'm overly fond of. Really liked I Want Your Love.
It was good
Interesting album. Very clear funk on this album. Cool bass. Love Le Freak. But those last three songs: Too long Or Goofy Wth was this.
Groovy
I was excited for this one, but it's actually a bit too same sounding. It's kind of an easy disco that maybe needs more funk or some stronger changes. Le Freak is the only standout and even that is more basic than I remember.
Great grooves, solid funky jams.
Pretty damn good album for the disco era. More centered on rhythm and instuments than other music of the day.
Fun and nostalgic.
A couple of bangers between mediocre fillers.
Do you know what? This was a lot more diverse and eclectic than I thought it would be. There’s some great musicianship on the album. Nice one.
Oh I know le freak! Fun, makes me think of disco even though it's R&B. Or is that what disco was? White people discovering rhythm? Overall a fun little album but I'm not sure why it's on this list. 3* Highlights: le freak, savoir faire
Ok
It's not for me but I respect it
Disco funk fun to get any party started. There's a sheen of glossy cheese lacquered thick over this album, but underneath is an amazing bass performance and probably the best right hand in guitar history. Nile Rodgers really maxes out that compressed single-coil strat sound. The ballads are dire though.
I could’ve sworn we’d already had this one. Le Freak is fun I guess but this was too disco for me. Light 3.
This was fine. The guitar track really highlighted Nile Rodger’s’ skills as a player. This as not as good as the other Chic album we heard a while ago.
I don't think I've ever listened to this album before front to back. I've listened to some Chic here and there, I consider myself at least a passing fan of Nile Rodgers, and am always blown away by his guitar. Le Freak was one of the first Funk/Disco songs I ever tried learning on guitar. This record was definitely early days for funk though, and was definitely very disco, minutes of very repetitive, very danceable music, but it wasn't the most interesting listening album. I'd say a 3/5, could've been a 4 if I was in the right mood.
disco was most certainly a series of musical tropes that allowed the creation of massive amounts of songs that all sound very very similar. Being dance oriented, the lyrics are really repetitive, silly, and throwaway. Various tropes: the whistle, spelling a word, feeling the rhythm, having a good time, the song being about the song or about dancing. Upbeat but tending to the saccharine, sentimental, effusively cloying. Prone to attracting serial killers in the late 70's.
A fairly chill disco record. Nile Rodgers' guitar playing definitely carries the rhythm of some of these tracks, though so of them do start to feel like they overstay their welcome after a bit.
Ben chill à écouter
Sublime
This is a fine album, but that’s about it. Their big hit, Le Freak, is really the only one that stands out. The rest is unobjectionable, and even had me bobbing my head at times. But ultimately I won’t be coming back
Was fun to listen to.
Not my bag. A banger on the wedding dancefloor. Listening to the album you can see how the genre evolved and how good the hit songs are - instantly recognisable. There’s a lot of musicality too
the mii channel, the sonic racing soundtrack, modern hip hop, and daft punk would be nothing without disco. that said, I've heard better disco, and I was incredibly bored for most of this album, despite the superhit freak out.
disco, 1978 -> 3
5.5/10 Highlight: Le Freak
Nothing speaks more 80s than this upbeat, funky album. It’s actually fair to say that this is typical 80s funky soul, luckily, I enjoy typical 80s funky music
funky
No thx
Good disco album, deserves to be on the list.
- Le Freak is classic - Makes you want to get up and dance - Great guitar and bass work
Nice and easy listening.
Oh hey, I know that one song! Fun, upbeat album, made me dance along while I was doing the dishes, and that's really all I ask music to do. That being said, I would have liked a bit more variation in the album.
great disco but the ubiquitousness of the hits detracts from the other tunes making them seem like filler
Having only heard "the hits", this was a surprisingly fun album.
Funky. Enjoyed the faster, disco tracks. 3/5
Freak out!
First couple are bangers, then it tails off considerably
Fun album, not sure that multiple CHIC albums are necessary for this exercise though
Makes you want to dance and Le Freak is obviously a classic. But, it kind of feels like a one trick pony at times.
Pretty fun listen, but not anything I’d regularly listen to.
I knew the popular track: Le Freak. The rest of the album has a similar disco vibe. It's a decent album when you're in the mood for that style.
Cheesy, disco fun that strays into just cheesy disco (sans fun) from time to time. The more upbeat songs definitely work better.
very fun
pleasant some good singles a little bland
A little repetitive but the riffs/grooves were good.
Disco kings/queens, for sure!
This was ok.
6.5/10 Good vibes, good tunes Nile Rodgers guitar and production are extremely good An excellent groove to have in the background But this album is dominated by sketches, ideas, hooks that have been stretched out into full songs - and lots of them don’t have enough content for 4 mins so are quite a bit too long The album is therefore all groove with very little depth both lyrically and song-wise The harmonised vocals are all excellent, some of the rest not so much Best: I Want Your Love
3/5
c'est chic
Impressed with the rest of the album. Discovered some new songs I liked too.
3.5 Short, sweet, and to the point. I like disco but unfortunately the rest of the album can’t hold a candle to Le Freak and I Want Your Love
It does exactly what it sets out to do. Big funk and disco energy. Not generally my bag, but the band is legendary for a reason. I'll give it three just for the musicianship. These guys are all monster players.
Disco sucks! Rinse, repeat. Whatever… some monster songs here.
groovy, catchy and very danceable. a great disco album but not something I'd return to.
This is fine funky disco. Le Freak is an all timer.
As per usual, top notch disco from Chic. This record is a mix of up-tempo bangers and slower more contemplative numbers. The latter might drag a little if it wasn't for the slappa da bass. Nial Rodgers is undoubtedly a music genius, but Bernard is the MVP on this record. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Le Freak Date listened: 30/03/24
Good, though fairly homogeneous. Seems like the kinda thing Jojah would like. 6/10
6/10 - Chic Cheer was pretty boring as it was just them saying Chic over and over again. The first half sounded pretty new but the second half could have been a sister sledge song and I would not have been surprised. I liked the guitar and sax solos though. Also I should not have given sister sledge 5 stars
Catchy, enjoyable toe-tapping music. "Freak out" song is on here.
It's fun disco music and I appreciate it for what it is. I probably wouldn't put it on as anything other than background.
Made me happy
I enjoyed the happy and upbeat album. Lyrics seemed repetitive. But it’s groovy and fun.
Little disco, little slow, not bad.
pretty decent, i wouldnt listen to again tho NYN
Fun record. So corny, it’s sort of good. Definitely found myself head bobbing at times. Some fun energetic tracks, but most are probably best enjoyed on elevators or in airport restrooms.
I dont get it so far. I mean its ok but. A one hot wondr in love with the word chic. Some decent musical compositions but also seems like muzak background music for a clothing store maybe?
Disco- funk. Good for a listen but didn’t draw me in.
Some uplifting tracks but the data doit is ‘At last i am free’. Not a bouncy single but emotional and vulnerable and captivating. A nice departure from the Disco tracks.
Some great songs but a bunch of filler.
Disco deserves a proper comeback! Most of the songs went a little too long for me, but if I had been in a club getting my groove on I probably wouldn’t have noticed. Le Freak and Savoir Faire are still classics, and CHIC is the ultimate Disco band.
Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, and Tony Thompson can play whatever they want and it will always be the best funk you have ever heard. A couple of the ballads are a little bland, but outside of that, this is a true gem and a really satisfying listen.
An all time classic
This was a fun album. Never been much of a disco fan, but fun and energetic throughout.
Easy listen. Even though all the songs sound the same, the formula behind that sound is great. Best Song: Chic Cheer Worst Song: N/A
funky, groovy, feel good disco
Nice enough but I expected more
Some worldies on this
Freak out!
Finally have a band and song name to place with the song 'Le Freak'. This whole thing is going to be very helpful for music trivia, we can say things like "i know who sings this but I cannot think of the name right now". Highlight: the very chill 'At last I Am Free' into the fun 'Sometimes You Win'
OHHHHH FREAK OUT! Groovy but not like my main aesthetic
Funky!
Very Chic. 3.5*
Woran liegts? Altersmilde?
Der er nogen kæmpe bangers her!! Men også lidt langt imellem dem
Funky . Parcels are indebted
Savoir Faire and I Want Your Love are groooovy, not a fan of the last 3 tracks.
Solid disco funk, loved the bass lines
Groovy. 3.4
A little repetitive. But overall a good time.
This is some absolutely classic funk/R&B. I like how stripped back to the basics this album becomes, and this album is coming from one of the most influential names in Disco. At the same time, I find myself craving more of the heavy riffs and melodies of someone like Funkadelic, and I'm just not sure this one's for me. Perhaps as filler on a funk playlist, but not as the main event.
straight bops, really vibin with this sound, less lyrical more rhythmical
Funky! Disco! Le Freak
