Reviews (page 6 of 13)

pleasant to the ear, very dancy album

Great album. I know from their hit le freak, but there are some more gems in there. Great album to play at a party.

Vibrant, energetic, fun. Really electric record to listen to, especially to start a Monday morning as I did today. Some classic hits on here.

Album Nr. 13 Toller 70's Disco-Sound.

What a terrible opening track! Just open with Le Freak! If even half true songs were as good as Le Freak this would be 5 stars

Okay so some of the songs were a bit bloated, but damn. Go off Nile and Bernard, go OFF.

This was really solid. Sweet to have some real fuckin music finally. Listened on the bus out of NYC. Really funky and really good.

A fun album full of music that makes you want to dance. To me, Chic’s power lies in Bernard Edwards’ incredibly groovy and catchy bass lines. Though I’m not apt to bump disco in my normal life, they certainly were masters of the genre.

Fun 70s funk/disco. Bass is grooving through this whole album, vocals are nice but don't take center stage. Nothing too crazy complicated but still fun.

a revisit for me, but the inclusion of strings in the music really shined through, enjoyable addition to my early memories of the rhythms and funk

Funky I like it

I dislike the Chic Cheer because it's too repetitive and too long, not a good start. At Last I am Free and some others are also very repetitive lyrics-wise but not as annoyingly so. Le Freak is great, it brings back happy memories. I also really loved Savoir Faire. All in all a nice and fun album, would listen again.

Yepp :)

Classic, so many good tracks, a nice short album, golden age of disco giving way to HI NRG and house... amazing.

Le Freak is a jam and it's good overall but some songs just go on for too long. Liked it better then the other Chic album

Initially wasn’t sure of the opening track as it felt like it took forever to get going and didn’t go anywhere but I think that was intentional and it’s actually a really good lead into the album. I do love funk and CHIC are disco but there’s some real funk influence in disco and I love it. Listening to the bass more and it’s doing some really fun interesting stuff. Funk rhythm guitar just sounds so good to me.

You can definitely tell this band was made by guitarists. I recently watched Niles Rodger’s tiny desk concert and didn’t realize he produced so much music. This was a good disco guitar album and you can feel the coked out dancing of the people listening to the same chorus for 1 minute straight. Def wish to be this level on guitar or bass.

Fun(ky)

This album was a ride, didn’t realize that Le Freak was on this LP as well. It has great variety and a pleasing sound.

Fun, funky, dance album.

"C'est Chic" by CHIC, released in 1978, is a disco-funk masterpiece that epitomizes the era's glamorous and infectious sound. Nile Rodgers' funky guitar riffs and Bernard Edwards' basslines create an irresistible groove throughout the album. Standout tracks like "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love" are timeless dance anthems, showcasing the band's signature sound. The seamless blend of disco, funk, and R&B elements, along with the lush production, contributes to the album's enduring appeal. "C'est Chic" is a celebration of dance and style, earning a well-deserved 4/5 for its musical prowess, cultural impact, and status as a quintessential disco classic.

Typical 70s music. Not bad.

Essential dance music. Unexpectedly love "Sometimes You Win". "At Last I'm Free" is the only one that seems to hang around longer than welcome.

Great music and tone. -1 point because I wish the lyrics were less repetitive. 4/5 would vibe again.

Cool Album. 70’s r&b and funk designed for a coke party.

Keywords: Vibey, Funk, Creative Guitar Notable Song: Le Freak

basslines that will get you bricked up

This album ripped. So funny after the Beegees I get this disco banger. These guys must have been the real deal. Imagine my surprise when "FREAK OUT" comes on. No idea this was them but of course it was! Good ol' funky disco time. Absolutely powered through the work I had to do this morning boppin up and down in my office chair I felt like John Travolta.

Classic late 70’s disco from a master

Very disco vibe, upbeat in general, would listen again

This one surprised me quite a bit I was expecting to not enjoy this due to it being disco/dance (at least in my mind). Savoir faire was my favorite track. I’d listen again

This was groove

Best disco album since sister sledge. 4.2/5

Just a good old funky time. If someone were to ask me specifically for a disco album I'd send this one and the next one, though I think good times is a little better. still can't go wrong with nile rodgers on guitar.

Geht gut rein. 3-4

Disco for a lifetime!

J'ai bien kiffé

Better than I expected. Pretty fun album, and that bass be slappin' 3.5/5

I didn’t rate this? Excellent stuff, exactly the kind of disco I am here for. B+

Just a really fun album. Not sure about it's staying power necessarily, but I've already got a couple of these on my disco/funk/soul playlist, so it's AT LEAST a 4 forever, I think.

#3, #5, #2

Sure, solid, actual classic disco with a history and an impact.

Super solid disco funk album, will never tire of listening to Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers interplay and insanely locked-in rhythm. "Savior Faire" is a fave. 4 - Will definitely listen again

Found myself toe tappin' on each track! Happy to say I've found a few new grooves that'll stick around from here on, though I will say, with some songs more than others, that classic disco 8-minute runtime can feel pretty long. Overall, great album and one of the better complete disco albums I've listened to.

This was actually pretty fun. Not exactly my jam but nice for, like, background music while working or something.

Listened to this while playing Barcelona solo. I won this time! This was a pretty darn fun album. I definitely knew Le Freak...who doesn't? I recognized one other track on the album as well. I'm an absolute sucker for a disco album. Escort is hands down my favorite new disco band. I do not like to dance and I'm an introvert, but this makes me wish I was at a club in the 70s.

Very fun

It's just nice and fun and cute and great

Yesssssssssss, disco. Love Nile Rogers

It's a classic disco album. very nice I read a review where they said that Savoir Faire was the best song. I agree. 4/5

more instrumental than i thought

Great disco funky sound. But not my thing so because a bit repetitive after a while. Enjoyed it though, especially the big hits.

Absolutely love this. I think I was too much into other music to enjoy this the first time around. But what a fantastic, nostalgic trip back to a different time. What is amazing is how well this has lasted. Niles Rodgers is a genius!! Amazing producer and a real class act. Big sound, funk at its best and brilliant orchestration. Such an overwhelming sound for a great and fun album

That was fun. Made me want to dance.

Great disco with wonderful riffs and hooks.

Decent chill beats And a mention to the fact I had no idea they were the ones who sang the ‘Freak Out’ song that takes me back to Popo’s car <3

SLAY. FEELING GOOD AND CHIC

i love disco! this was fun!

Something seemed familiar about this when I first put it on. Once I learned that Nile Rodgers was in this band, it all made sense. That bright and jangly guitar sound he has is easily one of my favorite tones of any guitarist ever. But the guitar is not the only exciting thing going on here. This is honestly one of disco's greatest bands. They still sound fresh and new, even for today's standards. And this album is just bop after bop. It only really slows things down twice, and while those aren't my favorite tracks, they are a nice break from everything else, and still solid songs. But everything else is some of the catchiest and most fun disco music you will ever hear. Everything here just grooves so hard. And Le Freak is undeniably a disco classic at this point. If you are looking for something to get your body moving, this album has it all. Rating: 8/10

Really enjoyed this one! I’ve been getting a lot of albums I consider to be stinkers, so this was a treat!

Lekker soundje, hippe vibes

met y everyday style but well done

Als Vinyl bestimmt gut. Bekanntestes Lied: LaFreak

I’m a simple man. I just need the funk.

Disco alright. glad to have listened to other songs than the Radio hit.

Solid. Only one real hit, but the rest are great songs in their own right.

Decent enjoyable listen. Rating: 3.8

Excellent first half, falls off a bit in the second half, good album experience.

Pretty cool music!

Bangers! Not something I’d typically seek out but really fun. Favourite songs were I Want Your Love, Sometimes You Win, and Le Freak.

Heard before: yes The most charming part of this record is the "one, two" count in to Le Freak. I don't know if it's Tony Thompson or Nile Rogers or some other disco genius, but it's just the voice of a dude in a tiny studio room. In the middle of this slick, lushly orchestrated, ice cold production, there is a red hot rhythm section and a bunch of great, funky players. I love the cool down, quiet storm jams after each hit single; it's a disco standard. Top tracks: I Want Your Love, Le Freak, Savoir Faire

funky beats to fuck to. chic cheer top 10 songs to walk to. is that Bruno mars?

Ah, disco. That most maligned of the musical genres. Thing is, the "disco" stuff is great. The slow numbers are kinda not. The disco does outweigh it though, so drag yourself through the end of the night cooldown tracks and boogie like it's 1978 to the good stuff.

allez je vous l'accorde (mood tracker)

A perfectly executed feel-good disco album. Nile Rodgers is a sensation. Little wonder that he'd be recruited by both Bowie and Daft Punk.

This album is really good; ‘Freak Out’, ‘I Want Your Love’, ‘Sometimes You Win’, it’s all great. Except for one song. ‘At Last I Am Free’ is long, repetitive, and overly dramatic and not very fun - on a disco album. I cannot stress enough that this would be a filler song anyway, since the chorus is annoying to begin with with (especially the last line). But otherwise, I enjoy it, so 4.

This one flew by, good stuff

Pleasant, but nothing special. Decent disco music that puts you in a good mood. No deep thought or emotions in it, but I guess that is standard for this gener.

This is actually quite good for a disco album. Love how catchy and groovy it is, without being too long or too monotonous.

Some good funk music, fun album overall. 4/5

Disco baby

I liked it

Definitely a Mood improving album (at least for me yesterday) interesting to hear the hits in the context of the album. Favorite Tracks: “Savoir Faire” “ I Want Your Love”

Lavish, tuneful, funky, fun. Disco executed about as perfectly as it can be. Best song: I Want Your Love

I couldn’t help the corners of my mouth rising up for the big bold disco beats.

It was very good!!!

Good chic album, but not great. I can't get enough of Nile Rodgers funk

Nice album, very enjoyable to listen to

Funky goodness that I could listen to a lot, but in some parts the energy goes down a bit too much.

Great album, amazing production. I have been conditioned to expect a Chic album to be filled to the brim with hits which is not that true for this one.

Disco, always down for some disco

I experienced road rage while listening to “Happy Man”. 4/5 stars.

Any project with Nile Rodgers as guitarist and producer is a project very much worthy of attention, and this album is no exception. I absolutely love his work -- just soooooo good! I know that "disco" (which is really R&B and dance music made in the 70s to my ear) gets dismissed easily -- and I readily admit in the 70s and 80s, I did that, but now I realize it's no different from any other genre or style of music as I hear it: I like what I like and I move on from what I don't -- but to me, this album is super fun, incredibly well performed, and keeps things going. Excellent stuff!

Light to decent 4, classic catchy disco riffs

so much fun!!

Like the Chic album that came after this, it's a good disco record where the singles make up the best songs. favs: Le Freak, I Want Your Love, Funny Man worst: At Last I Am Free

Well this was a lot more enjoyable than I expected... more than just a disco album, there are some cool jazz influences here.

I would die for having a guitar tone like the one used in this abum

Good album

PREFS : Le Freak, Savoir Faire, Happy Man, I Want Your Love (Funny) Bone MOINS PREF : Chic Cheer

Disco, for the most part, hasn't really aged the best but this was alright. C'est Chic is an odd disco album because as much as it is disco, it's also R&B, which is nice. I think that's part of the reason it's aged pretty well. The further implementation of funk music (something that is usually present but never the main part of disco) is also pretty nice. The songs Le Freak, Savoir Faire, and At Last I Am Free are the highlights. Le Freak is a pretty funky track with a nice riff, Savoir Faire is a really nice R&B instrumental with a nice and mellow solo, and At Last I Am Free is a slow R&B ballad that has probably the best vocals on the entire record. The only complaint I truly have about this record is that the lyrics and vocals aren't that good. The lyrics are shallow and aren't all that good, while the vocals just feel generic. That's kind of what's holding this record back honestly. Overall though, this disco and R&B record is nice, warranting a 7/10 in my opinion.

I don’t know why, everything I like musically would indicate that I shouldn’t enjoy this record, but I really like Nile Rodgers and the disco funk of Chic. I refuse to feel shame about this.

Pure funk. The first song I recognized as being sampled in the 90s, and Le Freak was the major hit off this album. Everything else was classic Disco and funk. This influenced so many other musicians, definitely a classic album

my dad was surprised i was listening to disco and i guess it’s true that i don’t listen to much of it - shits fire tho

Groovy and danceable. Not a huge amount I can say about this one, it was just a fun companion to my weekend activities. Favourite: Le Freak

Honestly, excellent. Always thought they were a bit cheesy and lame but sweating up a large Spanish mountain in my bicycle to this really helped. Is it real funk? No, not really. Disco? Not that either. Does it matter, only a little bit.

Monster grooves, although the slow ones aren't as good.

Really cool.

I love Le Freak: just have vibes of the barbie in Toy Story 3, all I can think about is Ken. Other than that, the album was background disco music and let me groove through my revision with ease.

Highlights: "Le Freak", "I want your love", "At last I am free". More than disco, great musicianship, a maturing and developing band right in front of you.

amazing disco album. probably the album that plays in heaven's club. 8/10

4. Not my usual style, but really liked it.

Coke dreams.

Toe tappin funky good tunes.

Katya was robbed.

Very good and super funky for disco, because of that I'd say I enjoyed it a lot

Surprisingly good. I did not realize who CHIC was. I had obviously heard Le Freak before but didn’t know it was them. Overall pretty good. Some songs are kind of corny now. At Last I Am Free goes on about 2 minutes too long. But overall good.

My stance on disco has softened the older I get. Now, I can listen to something like this and hear how great the musicianship is. I have been a fan of Nile Roger's guitar work for a while now and it really shines on this album. The funk influences are undeniable as well and the whole album overall is a perfect blend of repetitive dance music and great performance. My only complaint is that each song is too long (probably to dance to), and could be shortened by a good minute or two.

Funky stuff. Nile Rodgers is a legend.

And Nile said, “Let there be funk,” and there was funk. - Genesis 1:3

disco excellence. tbh the back half of this is better than the more well known portion. best tracks: I want your love, Savoir Faire, At Last I am Free

Disco didn't suck. This album is really funky with great grooves. The songs are long and repetitive, but it's DISCO, you're supposed to be coked up, non-stop partying on the dance floor. You don't need progressive instrumentation and full story telling in this music. Still sounds fresh, Nile Rodgers is incredible.

Can’t get enough of that bass.

Great. Made even better by the memory of the late, great, Sean Lock using samples of Le Freak as a buzzer sound effects on "8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown", accompanied by a completely non-apologetic shit-eating grin.

Classic disco with a little soul and funk thrown in. Good stuff that has aged better than a lot of music of that era.

Nile Rodgers is a musical genius, and the singles are all classics (as they are for damn near every song Chic released as a single). Sure, some of the songs may seem like they go on just a little too long, but that's what coke do baby! It keeps the party going to the point where you never want it to end. Take another bump, hit that dance floor, and stay on the ride.

You can see (or hear) how much it has impacted on music. 4.5

So glad to see this pop up! Le Chic just gives me happiness when I think about the hilarious scene in The Replacements film.

It's music for all night. Low-key for Chic, acoustic even. Every song uses a different instrumental palette, which emphasizes the album as cohesive without diminishing any of the hits.

I swear ive heard this one but its another album from them. It's catchy and fun though.

Now I understand what and why they're saying "c'est chic" after "freak out"!

I liked it very much, funky disco pop, I want your love.

I don't think my head stopped bopping the whole time. Happy Man and Sometimes You Win highlights, I Want Your Love a lowlight (too long) "The whole world's a circus, don't you be the clown" ✨

I now feel awful for rating Risque so low, Chic are disco masters and I did not know what I was listening to. Disco is not my jam, but this is some of the best out there.

Yes, disco bops. Less keen on the slower ones, but big ups Bernard.

A good disco album, though for some reason I didn't feel like I was able to get all the way into it

AMEI!!!

I bopped to this

Chill vibes. A lot of cool riffs I can learn from.

Le freak c’est chic!! Very disco, very fun, pretty enjoyable to listen to (just not the first song, it runs wayyy too long for what it is).

A widely influential disco album with two of the most well-known hits of the era. This can be a divisive album, as there are many haters of the commercialization of disco, but this is disco at its best. They take the cinematic power of 70s funk since the days of Curtis Mayfield, and turn it into an accessible and fun platform of groovy dance tracks. The geniuses here are the bassist Bernard Edwards and guitarist Nile Rodgers, musicians who have changed the state of pop music so much, working on highly influential albums from Sister Sledge to Madonna to Daft Punk. To me, the instrumentals are the star here. These tracks are long, with memorable deep basslines, string-like synths, and a twingy guitar hit to the max chorus setting. The gospel vocals are the cherry on top, turning many pieces into pop sensations by inviting the audience to sing to the top of their lungs and express their excitement in dance. There's a lot of variety in these tracks. The instrumental "Savoir Faire" sounds very much inspired by Superfly and the contemporary yacht rock movement, soothing and entrancing, like a Miami drive, but also fitting in for someone to dance to the whole album. "At Last I Am Free" is a dreamy relaxing song that anticipates "A Warm Summer Night" from their Risque album. Love the vocals especially. Some people have trouble with the repetitiveness of these tracks, but as a fan of shoegaze and post-rock, I'm an all for the long arrangements and their subtle changes. It's much easier to digest 8 long tracks than a series of cheap pop filler. And with the diverse palette and excellent unique playing, I always have plenty to focus on. Or, I don't need to focus on anything, and can just mindlessly dance to it or play in the background without feeling like I'm missing anything. Either way, I enjoyed it all, especially the milder 2nd side.

Musically Magnificent. Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards at their funkiest.

Imagine thinking this was a greatest hits, because I did. It's just another great album. Who knew?

Do the freak!

Snilld! Sérstaklega gaman að hlusta á my man Bernie syngja í tveimur lögum. Og ekki er það verra sem algrímið bauð mér upp á eftir að hafa hlustað á plötuna (Get Down Saturday Night - Oliver Cheatham)

Great to finally hear the album... Very good production overall, short album that does what it advertise and it seriously bangs some times. Solid 3.5/5

Cet album c’est chic

Disco Disco Yeah Yeah

Nice stuff

Absolutely excellent disco album. Le Freak is an all time classic and I’m ashamed I didn’t know they were the band to sing it until now

More whip smart super polished disco from Chic. The sound and style are iconic although the slow numbers are a little less engaging than the uptempo. Overall another outstanding album.

Lekker mee dansen, thuis of in de auto. Tof album

le freak famosissima e molto bella. Mi piace molto tutto quanto.

This record is funky and I really fucking dig it! However the absolute slapper of the album is the ballad "At Last I Am Free," something about it really grabbed me. Fantastic record, timeless sound, great production, and switching between vocalists kept things engaging.

I don’t like disco but I can tell this is good

3.5/5. It's disco. So it's catchy and easy for me to listen to. Nothing amazing though.

Abit lower than a 4, fell off abit in the later tracks I think

It's a brief but comfortable ride into the disco funk vibe and I dig it. The horns in 'I Want Your Love' was the high water mark for me. Technically solid and tight-- a tasty jam. I seem to remember Le Freak as the standout hit from the album, but overall, it was unfamiliar to me otherwise and underplayed.

"Dead as Disco" I think is a line that came from Reservoir Dogs. But I still enjoy me some good disco music from time-to-time. I really don't think it needed to die such an abrupt death. C'est Chic has some great tracks on it that I recognize, but also some complete duds like At Last I Am Free and Savior Faire. Bth pretty lame. But this album evokes some of the glamour of the early glamour of the cocaine era and high pile carpeting. I appreciated reading the Wikipedia entry on them really filled in some dead space on this era and this band which noted that CHIC was one of the true bands of the era not relying on producers to create a sound. Would I listen to this again...? Yes, absolutely. I'd put this on while hanging out nude on my tiger skin rug with my concubines or on the way to a costume party.

Good house music

One of the least chic things about me is that I deeply love chic

Lekker vrolijk, maar wel oud

Poppy funk. Pretty good stuff. Stand out tracks: Chic Cheer, Le Freak.

Funky.

Nile rogers on guitar is always great but this is not my favorite of chic’s work

At first I thought it was just gonna be a disco album, but I was pleasantly surprised at the mixture of sounds. Disco isn’t dead baby!

This was fun i really liked savior faire, i want your love, and sometimes you win. savior faire reminds me so much of another song but i can't remember what song it is so i was like going insane. good stuff. i think it might be a song by the weeknd??? gahhhh im going crazy!!! OKAY YES IT IS "DIE FOR YOU" by the weeknd god okay thank god i figured that out. but i think there may be another song that uses that motif too oh im sure there is god save my soul.

WOW love this album so much, we have the record so banged it on the record player which is always fun! I appreciate the epic party bangers such as I want your love and Le Freak but also have top memories of seeing them live AND really appreciate them musically there are so many layers with different instruments and the production value is excellent. Disco perfection.

Well what a vibe for a Monday! I definitely needed this to counter Monday stress. Absolute disco funk iconic tuuuunes

It's disco baby! Great bass, circular melodies, easy listening.

That guitar is so good

Groovy

awesome disco! makes me wanna dance all over the place!

Pure joy. I can’t resist music like this. Those strings at the halfway point of “I Want Your Love” have this great, driving drama. And then the horns join them! Wow. A lot of fun music here but this is the standout track for me. 🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼

Good album

The bass makes me shake my butt in my office chair, and there are some sweet guitar bits too, but the songs just feel like sparse repetitive shells to show off the great bass and guitar playing. It's not the sort of thing I would normally listen to, but if I was going to disco, this would great music with which to disco to. +1 star for Savoir Faire. I'll come back to that one for sure

Great fun, with funky guitar and bass throughout. The lyrics are fairly forgettable (variations on "ooh baby" and "dance"), but it's disco so not really much of a surprise. I did find myself zoning out a bit after the 30 minute mark, so I think disco works best for me where there are a variety of artists and styles.

Fun grooves and good times. Le freak is an all timer, I want your love is a nice track. Some of the songs run a little bit long but this album has enough cool guitar riffs from Nile Rogers and 70s charisma to be enjoyable. Fun short listen

This album was awesome. Savior Faire and I Want your Love had me on cloud 9.

Love the funky basslines

Groovy

Good album, songs felt a little long as the sections repeated without any changes. Le Freak is still one of their best tracks ever.

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: I want your love, At last I am free, Sometimes you win

Fabulous.

Surprisingly a lot more enjoyable than I expected. Le freak was actually my least favorite.

really like the groovy disco tunes. would listen again 4.3/5

Was pretty psyched when this came up, but wasn't as much fun as I'd hoped. 'At Last I Am Free' twigged my repetition bone and it was a real struggle getting to minute 7. IMHO CHIC is best without the syrup.

One can’t hate grooves this fat (pre-Phat) just because they’re disco. Much of this feels more like R&B (the languid pop of “Savoir Faire,” the R&B ballad [not quite slow jam] of “At Last I’m Free”) than the much reviled d-word genre. If you can’t dig this (and these bass lines in particular), your problem is much bigger than disco.

Great Disco Album. Would listen to again. Bass and Guitar lines are great throughout.

Great album. Easy listening, two classic hits.

Maybe a little on the disco side of the disco/funk spectrum for my taste, but this was still generally pretty good: good groove, amazing guitar and bass; I really liked this. Notable exception was At Last I Am Free which went on about 5 minutes too long, and in general I think the back half was weaker, but I still mostly thought this was really good.

Man this one shocked me. Of course the dance floor standards are iconic blasts of energy, but the whole album is great. Rather song Savoir Faire has some of the most gorgeous guitar I've ever heard. The album emphasizes the bands incredible interplay and leaves the cheesy production flourishes that plagued so much music of this era, to a bare minimum. 4.5 🌟

Great stuff, some of their best tunes

Good vibes good times

sonzao massa

Good tunes back in the late 70’s….

Damn, another great album from CHIC. I didn't recognize track names going in but I for sure knew a handful of these songs, especially the legendary "Le Freak." The opening four-track run is nuts, just banger after banger. I wasn't as moved by the back half but it's an excellent project and two for two from these guys. Favorite tracks: Le Freak, Chic Cheer, HAppy Man, Savoir Faire. Album art: Really like this blocky, off-kilter design. Very matter of fact, but still modern artsy. I dig it. 4.5/5

Very 80’s but still very enjoyable

I was vaguely familiar with Le Freak, and on that basis (and Wikipedia) I assumed I was in for a disco album. But not a minute into the first track, it occurred me this is more like a jam band. And the next hour was so much fun! It earned a repeat play before the day was over and several tracks are staying on rotation. I Want Your Love is stupendous. Pleasant surprise.

This was great! Some iconic tracks and the whole thing was just groovin' and fun.

Sheer class. What's more remarkable is that this disco-funk-soul crossover seems to have been a fully human endeavour. If you think you're hearing a trumpet, it's because you're hearing a trumpet. And that's no drum machine - that's the metronomic ministrations of the late great Tony Thompson. 'Le Freak' is an obvious highlight, and still sounds ultra fresh. I also really enjoyed the cool instrumental 'Savoir Faire', 'I Want Your Love' and '(Funny) Bone'. Hell, the much lamented Bernard Edwards gives a nice vocal on 'Happy Man'. Truth be told, everything hits on 'C'est Chic', whether it's the party bangers or the slow burners. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards at their peak.

A good fun short album with some mega bangers included.

So cool

This was a good album, but nothing stood out to me really. Just classic disco. But I'll definitely be listening to a lot of this album in the future.

Liked it, but mostly known freak out

Enjoyable disco music so I was always onboard but also great arrangements with guitar riffs, violins and beats to the songs. Not a huge fan of the instrumental tracks so gets a 4.

I like to listen to it, very pleasant.

4th March 2022 Listened on the sofa while working on a productive Friday. Went out to dinner by hesten for our 6 year anniversary. C’est chic!

C’est trop chic! C’est super cool!

I'm familiar with the big hits, but never checked out a whole CHIC album. At first I found the long tracks and relentless disco rhythms a little boring for a full album. Then I imagined myself at a 1970s roller disco and it all made sense. This is some funky, fun, quality stuff. There's an assured confidence to creating a perfect groove then sticking to it for nine minutes straight. The eight-song album is an underrated format too. Would skate around for another few laps. 4*

Once you get past the fact that some of the songs are so over played and trigger memories of drunk people who can't dance trying to dance, C'est Chic is a solid album It's disco but something more as well. There is funk and pop in there that helped shape music through the 80s. This thankfully isn't some cheaper attempt at capturing a trend but something more valid. This is mostly due to Nile Rodgers deft touch at producing timeless classics.

Incredible album. Widely celebrated and yet full of underrated gems in the bass lines and melodies - pioneering funk / disco.

first listen it's impossible to hate these grooves

I assumed this album was gonna be the same vibes as le freak the whole way through but it got a lot slower and smoother than I was expecting. Still groovy and funky and all that

An unexpected joy

Funky time, bussin basslines

rimelig funky

Wavering between a 3-4, biggest issue is each song goes on too long however le freak is a banger

Very good! Have heard some of the songs and knew others from samples overall impressed!

Didn't know who the "Freak out!" song was by before! A little repetitive at times, but definitely inspired some kitchen bobbing.

ALSO very fun. two disco-y albums in a row. fun.

Hip and groovy, some massive hits here but even the fillers are killers. Top tracks: Happy man, I want your love, chic cheer

This album kinda slaps. Not much to say about it since it’s disco, but it’s still super fun and doesn’t get old for the 40+ minute runtime. 7/10

Freak out

Fantastic

I never disliked Disco. My biggest problem with disco was that every "hit" sounded the same. This, however, is different. Credit here definitely goes to Nile Rodgers and the bassist. They really put an emphasis on the music. The instrumentation for each sound is lush, the guitar solo for Savoir Faire was really great. The "hit" actually sounds overdone. The other pieces sound (to me) better. Really enjoyed it.

So much better than expected, solid all the way through

Great album with iconic hits such as I want your love, Le Freak...

GROOVE. Le Freak is a great time. The bass tone is great, and the singles kick. I don't think there is enough variety to make it a 5 star, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. At Last I Am Free lingers longer than it should, but being a ballad i guess that's just a personal preference. [Funny] Bone is a good track.

Nice and funky

Kova levy!

Happy Man and At Last I Am Free are hidden gems

Second and the most successful Chic's album. The 78's mix of disco, funk and R&B. Not my kind of music but I enjoyed the guitar and bass lines.

These guys have no rhythm.

Funky vibes

Picked this up at a record shop in Chicago for .99 cents a few years back and it played great. Worth it for “I Want Your Love” alone. Unbeatable bass line

4 groovy

Funky disco and it has Le Freak!

fuckin GROOVY good fun vibes :) Lav it xoxo happy man and I want your love hadn’t heard before but they slap x At last I am free is repetitive skip it

🕺🏻

Great Saturday morning vibes.

Pretty fun! 8/10

That was a lot of disco.

musica disco 70! aaaaaahh FREAK OUT!

Super nice mix of R&B, funk and soul.

Like a 7. At first I figured this was on there because there was one good song on it, then there were some other good songs. Not really my thing, but it was a good length and had fun energy

Gran album.

Hypnotic charismatic disco record, full of great rhythms, summer vibes and cool tunes. And 'Le Freak' and 'I Want Your Love', of course

Such a good vibes

Woah- very good. Really enjoyed this.

Funky. Le Freak most iconic song on album. Savoir Faire could be an anime closing. Rest of the album cool.

Bänger Skön funk

Groovy disco music

These people sound fun. Do I actually like disco? wtf... Le Freak -- there's the radio banger. And what's this jazz interlude???

bem groovy, good vibes

I enjoyed all the sources of all the samples.

Already had it once, not bad

This is what I think when I say 70s music. Nice to listen to.

Best disco album of all time? Love the bass and guitar playing. Robert Wyatt's cover of "At Last I Am Free" is one of my favorite covers of all time so of course I love the original as well.

This is sick

Killer album. Starts off strong. Greats bass lines and guitar riffs

Disco funk classic

Pretty fun, groovy listen.

I actually really liked this

Some iconic moments in here. More jazzy and soulful than I was expecting. A little too much filler to get 5 stars though.

Who doesn't love a bit of disco and nile rodgers

Couple killer songs

Great album

11/18/20 Chic. Standout Tracks: Chic Cheer, Savoir Faire, Sometimes You Win, (Funny) Bone

Songs dragged a bit too much, the album is memorable and could’ve been better but due to the repetitive nature of each song the album felt like it lasted forever. An 8 song album like this should’ve been around 16-24 minutes not 42.

Le Freak is great.

I understand they didn't have samplers or bloopers back then so they recorded all these monotonous 10m tracks live? This is remarkable. Not so entertaining but still remarkable.

So much fun! I listened to the album in 2 parts and I definitely liked the first 5 songs much more than the last 3, however they still made me wanna move and groove.

Bit nothingy but fun

Aika chilli mut liikaa instrumenttei eikä tarpeeks lauluu

ohhhhhhh le freak is that one song where that telma gurl from insta be doin the freaky ass dances yeah well she ruined it for me

Fun but also a little boring

It's 3.5

Disco can be fun. It doesn't have to be soulless nonsense! Thank you Chic for elevating an overall lame subgenre of pop. Thank you for letting me bring up decent disco band the next time some idiot tries and tells me ABBA is good.

Freak out

Fav song: Le Freak
