Reviews (page 8 of 15)
One complete album of continuous 1970's hits. All enjoyable rock. The definition of classic.
I had no idea this one would show its weird guitar spaceship face on this list. Hits galore. Starting off with potentially the biggest. After boring crooners from the mid 2000s, someone who can sing is a nice change. The build to the chorus on this one rules so hard. It’s a song that’s blared in a million construction sites for 50 years, but on its own, it’s still pretty good. If it wasn’t heavily overplayed, man. This thing is sweet. Man. I forgot about this song. A little bubblegum for me but the sounds are so good. Vocals especially And that chorus ain’t half bad. I hate Nick Cave. Sorry, tick I’ve developed going through this list. Hearing a fucking guitar solo and a competent vocalist is revolutionary at this point. Good lord the opening. I am ascending to a higher plane of being, known as Boston. The organ and bass rips. The strummed chorus is SICK. I love this song. Could it be because I ripped it up in Rockband in 2007??? Possibly. That god damn solo. Sweet Jesus. Listen. I like lame incel music. But this thing just rips. Peace of mind with kids music movie lyrics. I don’t want to completely devastate this one, because the guitar tone is so good. A let down after the previous one. Holy hell we’re back boys. Organ✅ Sick Riff ✅ fucking balls ✅. TRANSYLVANIA MIXED WITH SOUL REVIVAL. God dammit this rules. I just grew a moustache. Three songs left to somehow derail this. This one is kind of a lower energy. The organ player is going off again though. Guitar Solos beginning with gong strikes. Why is this album so cool? A middling track punctuated with incredible solos. Oh boy. I’m prepared for the ballads. These song titles indicate some balladry for some mulleted man crying in a Camaro. God the vocal melodies are good. No ballads. I mean this is close, but again, the vocals are great, the instrumentation is lush and full. Stalker lyrics. Hey, it was the 70’s!! Nah this is a typical closer in that it seems to run out of ideas slightly, but after 30 odd minutes of excellent rock, I can forgive the spiritual revival finish. A great vocalist can carry a mediocre band and a mediocre vocalist can hamper a great band. Everybody sounds great here and this thing rules from the first note and settles into a decent finish. Some major highlights in there, but overall this thing is fun, energetic and fantastic. Roll on Massachusetts. 3.5-4 HIGHLIGHTS: More than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Smokin’
Boston is a band that I was raised on, so they will always have a special place in my heart. This album is one of my go-tos when I need to be lifted into a better mood. It has a lot going for it in terms of instrumentation. Tom Scholz used a lot of custom-built equipment and was really ahead of the curve with his studio production techniques, making this album groundbreaking for its time. Even better, the album is very consistent all the way through, with good songs and a smooth, cohesive flow.
Surprisingly fun throughout, and I was also surprised this their debut album. Although, I still don't really know much else about the outside of More than a Feeling. There goes Mairanne.
'More than a Feeling' is a classic. The rest of the album is a nice reminder of 70s rock.
"More than a feeling" is a great song to start an album!!!
Harmless cheesy singalong stuff form the 70s and 80s. Hmm. What a horrible thing to say. As the album progresses, you see how it would have felt epic to play at the time. A true airguitar album. Anyone with an 80s convertible shoudl pluy this loud. Its awesome in that cheesy ironic way.
First track I thought I was tired of hearing but I'm not. Good album overall, I wasn't blown away but will give it another go. 7/10
Amazing song, everyone knows which one, and a bunch of early hard rock tracks, mostly average or slightly above average. Not a fan of this type of music, but opening song is just too good. More Than a Good, I would even say.
Echte bangers
- Personal impression: Great album, evoked a strong feeling - Short album (38 minutes), but thoroughly enjoyable - Album artwork rated 10 out of 10 - Favourite song: More than a feeling - Rating: Four out of five stars
Duration - Comes in at 37 mins. Not a bad length. Album opens with an absolute classic - more than a feeling. Every man and his dog has heard this tune. Quality. Great vocals and a lovely solo. peace of mind - what a beauty of a solo. good track. loved the opening intro of foreplay. pretty wild. Then that transition into long time and the opening guitar lick. Damn nice. Another great solo in this track. These guys know how to play. Hitch a ride - banging! The organ work is immense. What a great song. Solo fits in superbly with the feel of this track. At first i didnt know what to think of the vocals, they almost felt TOO soft. But overall, the song works really well. WHAT A TUNE. Standout songs - More than a feeling, PoM, long time, hitch a ride Rating 4/5
Fantastic rock record. The three opening tracks are pure gold. Such a consistent, high-energy, kick arse sound.
A classic. You know every song.
4 stars just because of Foreplay/Longtime, one of my fav songs ever.
A classic rock album featuring some great headbangers. It was a short listening experience, but if you don't have another good song to add to an album, just keep it short and sweet. Would listen again.
Some fun 70's rock. I feel like there is some prog rock tendencies showing, but it mostly seems pretty straight forward to me.
Best Song: Foreplay / Long Time. All three opening tracks are bangers, but the use of the instrumental intro to build tension really sets this one apart. Worst Song: Something About You. This song could be deleted off the album and nothing of value would be lost. Overall: I think no band has better arena-rock vocals than Boston. The soaring quality of his voice, paired with the guitar parts which often mirror the voice, feels like it was designed specifically to fill stadiums. The album is pretty front-loaded (excluded the absolute ripping finale to the last track), but this is about as good as classic rock gets.
I want to like Boston, but personally I find I can only take them in small doses. Usually 1-2 songs and I’m done. That being said, my stubborn infant finally decided to drink her milk while listening to Boston, so that deserves at least a 3/5. What the hell, I’ll bump it up cos More than a Feeling is such a banger. 4/5
There's a reason that this album has been a mainstay of Classic Rock radio for generations. Driving beats, multi-tracked guitars, soaring vocals, and hooks for days. Every chorus is an anthem, meant to be sung along with in arenas or in the privacy of your car. Love them or hate them, Boston would not be denied it's place in Rock history. Four and one-half stars. The extra half-star is because Boston's Tom Scholz is the inventor of the Rockman. The Rockman was an effects box/amp emulator that was famously used to record the entirety of Def Leppard's "Hysteria" album (a five-star effort if there ever was one.)
Classic
....
Essential seventies classic that has lived on for almost fifty years due to its sparkling production, technical innovation, and a few brilliant songs.
Great classic rock album!
Great start!
I can put this as a Humble Pie x Queen sound. Quite a good album considering it's not exactly up my alley
A side is straight bangers B side is solid too Loved this album growing up
L'album per sentirsi un padre americano che si dedica al barbecue e al football. Per tre o quattro canzoni è molto molto bello e poi diventa sottofondo. Come gli Eagles, ma meglio
1. spoko, takie pozytywne. A więc 8/10
This was what I hoped Bad Company would be.
More than a feeling + andere Songs Typischer Sound, 70er Rock 4/5
Great album. I don't know if there's a more quintessential "classic rock station" album. The first 5 tracks are all killer.
Already know this album. Classic, with several all-time hits on it.
Great riffs. Not the sort of album I’ll go back to, but happy to hear in a bar.
How fun would it have been to be driving around in your dad's camaro in the summer of 1976 blasting this shit as loud as possible. Maybe wearing a headband with a perm and a mustache. Nerds rule.
Approachably epic if cliched in ways that now seem pretty predictable (in that they didn't actually create any new cliches just reinforced a number of well-known tropes). Embodies all that’s good and wholesome about America and mom and apple pie and air guitar. It's sort of Rockwellian rock and roll, but there's a reason this record sold so well -- it's nearly perfect in terms of doing what it set out to do. And that's really the point here – just listen to the record, which one remembers was the main point in the liner notes, which one remembers reading next to one's sister's turntable in the '70s. Bonus points for the main guy being an MIT grad. Good idea to quit his day job, though one wonders if he ever went back.
A signature album for Boston, and a signature album for the rock sound in the late 70's. Well produced, and well executed.
Super fun and impeccably clean classic rock. Holds up very well, and it’s honestly pretty hard to fault. It is interesting to me how America-centric the album's success was, with 85% of sales coming from US and 5% from Canada. Certainly doesn't seem to have made much of a splash here in Australia, and I’d say it’s quite rare to hear on classic rock radio here; if anything it evokes nostalgia of the 2 years I spent living in Canada in the 2010s.
Pretty amazing story of how this album came to be. A defining sound of classic rock from the late 70’s
Um tunel do tempo direto para os anos 80
this is the music of classic rock stations, poker games, tap your foot and sing-along. Little known fact, my high school graduating class in 1990 chose foreplay/long time as our class song.
Without ever actually listening to this whole album, I formed opinions about Boston. The opinions were uninformed and wrong. There is room in my life for these 37 minutes of music.
I'm generally not a fan of this style of power pop mainstream rock, but this album is a huge exception. It is excellent from start to finish, a true classic. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I don't really connect with some of the songs on a personal level and the second half can't keep up with the first half. But when I do play it, I get reminded of how good it is.
Surprisingly still very good. Very 80s without feeling too dated. Enjoyed some of the lesser known songs the best.
Well, a few good songs for sure
Classic Rawk
Solid melodic rock with banging harmony guitars
Most classic of classic rock. Still a LITTLE filler in there tho
dad rock all'ennesima potenza, che bomba
L’album per sentirsi un padre americano che si dedica al barbecue e al football. Per tre o quattro canzoni è molto molto bello e poi diventa sottofondo. Come gli Eagles, ma meglio
Very strong album. Don't necessarily like every single song, but has some super high peaks. Will I listen to again: 95%
Lots of Boston heard at my college. Really enjoyed this walk back in time.
Brings me back to spring 1986, staying at a friends house the night before our morning soccer match (Croughton v Woodbridge) - woke up to this album blasting on his stereo. Scored the only goal in our 1-0 win.
Quite liked this. Some familiar samples. Long time a fav.
9/10. Really great 1970's rock music. :)
Solid album through and through. 5 out of 5
Reminds me of Spanish class in high school but honestly the sound is amazing
This album reminds me very much of Saturday afternoons in the mid 70’s and listening to the Alan Freeman Saturday Rock Show on BBC Radio 1. Great show to listen to all the prog rock bands. It was here where I first heard Boston and this album. More Than A Feeling was an instant hit with me and a track continually played on that radio show. I also loved Foreplay and the way it segued into Long Time and it was nice to experience this again. A good album bringing back lots of memories. 4/5 30/6/24
I've heard this album so many times my brain almost immediately wants to tune it out. A great sound, a great album!
This is a quintessential 1970s popular rock record. I have heard so many of these tracks in movies and television set in or that are about the era. And yet, it isn't representative of all of the 70s music and culture it's just symbolic of the mainstream expression of that era. And, I love it for that. It's not my favorite music from that decade. It's not what I believe would've actually been cool. I probably would've found actual Boston fans obnoxious at the time. And despite a Summer vibe, it's not something that I'm going to throw on tomorrow when it is not my album of the day. All that said, whenever I hear a track off this Boston album I nod along. Boston endures for that reason.
Erg lekker
Its nastalgic
enjoyed this one way more than I thought I would, it's corny but has some cool riffs and soaring hooks
Times were simpler in the 70’s. Bands didn’t have the time to spend thinking up cool names, they were too busy making great music. So they just named themselves after the place they were from. Boston, Chicago, Kansas. Not like the fake band names that came later. I’m looking at you Texas. This is a solid album with great musicianship. It certainly sounds of the decade, but that’s not a bad thing.
I had extremely low hopes for this album to be honest. I assumed it would be totally bland hair rock. At times it was, but then at other times it was really surprisingly good. A bit more sixties than I expected and quite a lot more melodic. Sneaks into the fours.
tyckte starten var så stark, men var inte jätteunderhållen av resten Bästa låt: more than a feeling, denna var fet
Good album
this is definitely boomer core but this goes hard
I never knew that one person did basically everything on this album except the vocals. It’s frankly unfair how some people can be so talented. Leave some coolness for the rest of us! It goes without saying that More Than A Feeling is an absolute banger. I was less familiar with the rest of the album, and appreciated that old school swinging rock and roll vibe. It’s hard to find many things not to like here.
the first three songs are all-timers. there's a reason they get played to death on classic rock radio. the rest of the album, in my opinion, is good, not great. nothing bad here, but nothing as special as the opening three tracks. pretty good album overall, but it feels pretty formulaic after a while. the musicianship here is great, in particular the guitar playing is iconic. the production here is impeccable. brad delp's vocals are incredible. it might be one of the best sounding records of all time. all that said, a very good album front to back, if not a bit cliche.
I feel like I know all these songs. Have at least heard most of them before I think. They are the most classic rock of all the classic rock. Good fun. I enjoy the spaceship and prog styling then the band just being called Boston
Almost every song was great.
7,5/10 Очень хороший альбом. Годные треки, несмотря на запах говна мамонта, звучат неплохо и спустя 50 лет, не зря даже говноед Кобейн спиздил рифф для своего дерьма Smells Like Teen Spirit из More Than a Feeling. Тем не менее возраст даёт о себе знать, запись не очень по сегодняшним меркам, поэтому слушать не так приятно как хотелось бы.
I didn't think there could be too much "soaring guitar" but here we are.
Your favourite rock band's favourite rock band... Soaring guitar solos, epic drum fills, driving bass and organ, and a falsetto voice to die for. Speaking of Rock Band, Foreplay/Long Time was so much fun to play on that game
Pleasant
just jam after jam after jam
Hard rock. I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. But there's so much energy and passion behind the vocals that you can't help but have a good time. I knew a couple songs ahead of time but I really enjoyed the other ones. I think it struggles a little bit due to being overly polished, but that comes with the genre. Would like to revisit. Strong 3.5/5
ok I like dad rock
I used to live in a shared house where the guy in the room next to mine had this album. He loved to wake up early and blast More than a Feeling out at obscene volume. I still love that track, although I didn't really know the rest of the album well at all. The last track really sucks, and prevents this from being a 5 star affair, but the remainder is pleasing and worthy of 4 stars. Yes, it's generic, but I love the guitar sound and it's the epitome of easy listening.
A very impressive debut album. Boston boasted huge rock and roll. The music started in a small home studio but is large enough to fill stadiums. The production is crystal clear and guitars are powerful and the hooks are undeniably catchy. There are hints of prog rock throughout but it remains perfectly accessible. The hits may have suffered a bit from being overplayed but that's not without good reason. This is iconic 70s rock created to be heard by the masses.
So.Many.Mustaches! And why does the drummer look like a bear-cum-caveman in the "More than a Feeling" video??? Regardless, much like "Rumours", this is another album filled almost entirely with songs that played on the radio over the years. And much like "Rumours", while it's not my favorite music, it's hard to deny that this is a very solid (and popular) album and band. Musically and lyrically, it's definitely not as interesting as "Rumours", but it's certainly a bit more rockin', and this album's influence on American rock is undeniable. I do wish the band wasn't as cringe-worthy to look at (and I wish they didn't all look like extras for "Spinal Tap"), but I'm confident they looked great to all their fans at the time. The Wikipedia entry for this album is definitely worth reading, and at least partly explains why (nearly) all the songs became radio-hits, as they had been written and shopped for many years before the album was signed and produced. It's also both impressive and I imagine very grating how the guitarist Tom Scholz was effectively a one-man band and producer for the album, and how he basically worked almost exclusively from his basement. (Also pretty funny that he kept his full-time job at Polaroid until the album went gold after its release.) I'm not sure if Scholz ever felt he'd achieved the "perfect band" or the "perfect song", but it's an impressive attempt.
p357. 1976. 4 stars. Quality late 70s American pomp rock with fabulous production, fabulous vocals and some great songs. Points deducted for the usual 70s wankage, but a bonus point for being the source of "Smells Like Teen Spirit".
Great album
sounds like boston :)
"More Than a Feeling" plus 7 other songs. OK, I get it, this is very "white Dad complaining about the latest generation spending too much on avocados" and there are dozens of these AOR bands on the list. And even if you do end up hating yourself for admitting it, these tunes are damn catchy.
I listened to this in between issues of Star Wars Bounty Hunters and it was the perfect space outlaw soundtrack. Favourite song: More Than A Feeling.
Classic
Needed that. Love me a bit of Boston
first listen i mean, i don't love all of it but it is an american cornerstone album
"In an elaborate ruse, Scholz tricked the label into thinking the band was recording on the West Coast, when in reality, the bulk was being tracked solely by Scholz at his Massachusetts home. The album's contents are a complete recreation of the band's demo tape, and contain songs written and composed many years prior." My how times have changed. A studio DIDN'T want some band's shitty home recordings. Boston's debut is the gold standard for home recordings in my book. This still sounds better than the vast majority of pro studio recordings from the era. It's also just a wonderful rock record. There's really something here for everyone; technical proficiency, catchiness and karaoke friendliness.
What a great album. Just some good freaking music. The album is only 37 minutes long, but I wish it was longer.
One Boomer Album to rule them all
I’m not super into the mustache/mullet variety of classic rock, but for some reason I have a soft spot for Boston. This is one of the first albums that we bought when we started collecting vinyl again. It sounds really good on an old turntable.
Iconic album that anyone my age has heard tons of times. I've never been a fan. Now it's nostalgia.
I'm pretty biased on this one having heard it hundreds of times when I was a kid. I was only 5 when it came out but discovered it in 7th grade. Brad Delp's vocals were sweet sounding and spot on, surrounded by the sounds of anthem guitars.
I didn’t know I knew every single song on this album
Great rock album
Yes, it’s cheesy dad rock. However it’s very grandiose when it wants to be and is generally a fun listen, don’t kind of cancels it out.
- MORE THAN A FEELIIIINGGG - ngl that song itself takes this album to a four
Classic albumn
Was expecting bland dad rock, instead I got very fun and well written dad rock. Knew 'More Than a Feeling', then 'Peace of Mind' came on, turns out i know that one too, 'Foreplay/Long Time' was fantastically epic, especially the intro. Everything after that just kept rocking out, didn't feel annoyed or bored for a second, which is far more than I can say for a lot of classic rock albums. They kind of nailed it here.
Very energetic hard rock album which has a lot of bangers, starting with the opening classic, 'More Than A Feeling'. It even had some prog rock songs on it. It was like the peak of dad rock in the mid-1970s, it's a good album overall.
I loved this album when I was in college. If this were my first time hearing it, I doubt I would give it four stars, but I will for old times sake. It’s a really good album! I enjoyed hearing it again.
I enjoy hearing how much fun everyone seems to be having playing these songs.
I used to leve them , still kinda like them, but have Moved on. It didnt suck.
01) More Than a Feeling - 10,0 02) Peace of Mind - 8,5 03) Foreplay/Long Time - 8,0 04) Rock & Roll Band - 7,5 05) Smokin' - 8,0 06) Hitch a Ride - 8,5 07) Something About You - 8,5 08) Let Me Take You Home Tonight - 8,5 TOTAL: 8,44 (84/100) If something is called classic rock, then it must have done something right to be called a classic. "More Than a Feeling" is a great song, even if it is overplayed by radio stations.
One of the best dad rock albums I love this. One of the best openers and constant bangers there on. I really have not listened to much of this genre really since I grew up but I am going to have to back through it all because it is really. It has a clear plan and it succeeds at doing that there is not much more to say. It gets a really high rating but on here I juts can't give it a 5. 5's are going to be exclusive for albums from 9.5-10/10 and although this falls shorts it doesn't mean I don't think it is great. Stand out songs: More Than a Feeling Peace of Mind Something About You
all the hits
Hit after hit after hit. Half point deduction for overplay, which wasn’t really their fault. 4.5
All great songs. Really close to 5 stars.
Awesome dad rock. How anyone could dislike peace if mind is beyond me
Sure, it’s kind of a cheesy cliché classic rock album, but it’s fun as hell and every single song was a hit. The only other album I can think of that has as high of a concentration of hits on a single album is The Cars self-titled. Also, the sound quality on this recording is really something special. Borders on overproduced, but it works for me. On a good system, this album sounds absolutely huge, but without sacrificing dynamics. For all you vinyl collectors out there, find a copy with “Wally” in the deadwax and you won’t be disappointed. The “corporate dad rock” criticisms it often gets are valid, but if you are able to put that aside and just enjoy the music, this is a really good album.
Idk, man. If you don’t like this album, I think you are going to have to start asking yourself some really hard questions about who you are as a person. Do you like to rock? Do you like to party? Do you like Camaros? Do you like crushing cold beers? Do you like smoking Marlboro Reds? Do you even own a sleeveless T-shirt and jean shorts? Do you like making out with hot chicks? Do you like riding around in a Camaro on a hot summer night dressed in jean shorts and a sleeveless T-shirt, blasting rock music, drinking a cold beer and smoking a Marlboro Red on your way to make out with a hot chick, AKA partying? Because if you do, then you know this album fucking rocks. Also, those are upside down guitars with blue flames coming off the strings on the cover, not cities attached to UFOs escaping a dying world, or whatever your nerd ass thought they were. The blue flames are coming off the strings because of how hard the band is rocking. Just, FYI.
Very solid album with some great guitar riffs. I'm not surprised this was the best selling debut album for almost a decade.
Fun stuff
I listened to it 2x
Very tight, better than I expected
Did anyone even die in the past 40 years without having heard this? I may have filed "More Than a Feeling" under 80ies Hair Metal and I ~know half of these? And the thing is: rightly so? This is just excellent at what it is. Someone in the reviews compared the music to Deep Purple meets Queen and yes, at times it sounds like those two rolled into one - this might be my only gripe actually: while I like me some of the former, I don't care much for the latter. But that's nitpicking because fuck, this rocks!?
Meh, good album but I've hard it way too often in my life.
Great throw back album
pure nostalgia
Not my taste but this was a great album.
6 peace of mind el mejor tema del album por lejos 18/3/24
Wow, I knew almost every track like a genetic memory.
024-03-14...
dad rock of the good kind
Some excellent melodies and riffs, enjoyable
More than a feeling into peace of mind = 4.5
Awesome classic arena rock
I mean, this is a classic. There are some songs that can stop feeling special because you've heard them a million times. This album reminds me that they got played a million times because they are special.
Lättsmält, enkelt att tycka om och jämnbra (på gränsen till att det blir lite tradigt dock). Texterna är rätt plågsamma också, men blir ändå en svag fyra.
I am horrified to discover that this is really good. Please don't tell anyone. What a nice thing to listen to on a cold wet Sunday afternoon in England. I do think 'More Than a Feeling' could be a contender for best opening track of a debut album. It was a tingly moment. It's the only track I know and probably everyone knows, but the rest is pretty great Rocky stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed it more than I probably should have done. A low 4.
Big Hits Boston! Reminds of a radio station I liked to listen to in Denver back in the early 80’s… KBCO, out of Boulder. They used to play an entire album late at night, and I’m sure this made that rotation. My first exposures to the big rock sounds more popular in the Midwest. Not really my thing, but an A for effort. Ok…. Maybe B+.
Heard this album about a million times. Despite it being down-the-center boomer rock and a little cheesy in the lyrics department, it's a certified classic and a production master class by the genius that is Tom Scholz - the story behind it being an incredible covert recording operation that put big-name producers in fancy studios to shame.
Impecable grabación. Superexito que no ha envejecido bien

A classic rock staple. Undeniably catchy and fun. Stands the test of time.
An ear-candy album of classic rock. Really pleasant songs, and the acoustic guitars on some of the song really help with the flow of the rock album. Sounds like the writer really enjoyed his time. Of course, I know quite a few songs from this album already, but this was the first time I've heard all of it. Definitely want to re-listen at some point in the future.
The first album on here where I already knew every song. I had to go check that it wasn't a greatest hits album. The story behind the creation of this album was fascinating. I won't relay it here, but it gave me a greater appreciation for the classic rock staples that I had previously dismissed as just 70s pop-rock.
Just not my type of music. I tried but couldn’t even finish it.
Every song on the record had radio play. Nostalgic hit makers. Distinct sounds, particularly guitar effects. What hurts it was how many of these songs were overplayed on the radio. Not the band fault however.
Familiar, funky, fun!!
Solid Album
Old classics, makes me want to play the drums, had heard before but didn’t know the name, dad rock
Classic, fun, great rock album.
Iconic 80s metal. Also pretty rad that the guitarist was an electrical engineer, and he designed/built the amps used ont his recording.
Although I never owned this album, I was VERY familiar with it, because of its heavy rotation on the radio when it came out…VERY heavy rotation. So much so, I learned to hate the album and switched off the radio whenever a song from the album came on. Fast forward a couple decades, having not heard anything from it in quite a while, I still cringed when it came up as my suggestion for today. I decided to suck it up and give it a serious listen. There is a reason it became so popular. It’s actually really good. The song construction, vocals and instrumental solos are all very well crafted. When I learned from Wikipedia that it was pretty much produced by two guys, with Tom Scholz playing most of the instruments, I was really impressed. I will definitely listen to this album again…just not too often
Songs that feel like you got the girl and are driving into your happily ever after. Not a lot of variety within the songs with similar instrumentation and a similar guitar riff continuing through the album but still very fun
Amazing!
I hadn't heard of this band before but I instantly recognised More Than A Feeling. There were a few songs which stood out from the rest, especially the slightly slower ones (More Than A Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Let Me Take You Home Tonight). I can definitely picture myself returning to this album if the right mood strikes. 3.5 stars, rounding up because I was pleasantly surprised and am feeling generous
Slightly cheesy, but juuuuuust stays on the "classic rock" side of the line. A few absolute staples, which I can't remember not knowing, and a few more that sound basically the same but don't get the airplay. Solid and catchy, with good solos and vocals, but falls ever so slightly short of the five for me - just a bit lacking in emotion and magic.
While it would be easy to hate on Boston, and how passé this album is, it is also hard to deny the pure unbridled joy these songs can bring to your day. I think I’ve heard More Than a Feeling at least a 1,000 times, but there’s just something about that sugary chunka chunk guitar progression with the clapping and Brad Delp’s golden vocals that puts a smile on your face. The first 3 tracks are such staples of classic rock radio, it’s hard to believe they are all on the same album, but I was actually more surprised at how good the non-singles are from this album. They follow a similar formula, acoustic guitars mixed with electric, intricate solos, and flawless vocals. I’m not sure if these guys invented power pop, but they sure are the clear forerunners. There is definitely weakness in the lyrics, which are rudimentary at best, and the over abundance of soloing, which seems unnecessary at times (and would be lambasted by punks for decades to come). The album cover is also probably one of the worst all time. Despite those downsides, this is still a hell of good time.
I can't imagine why they didn't start the album with Foreplay/Long Time. The wild prog-rock intro melting into the power pop seems to be symbolic little nod to the influences and direction of the authors. This album captures the zeitgeist of its musical era. I would say that you couldn't grow an album like this in a lab, but they did! I mean, it was a basement, but the self-titled "Boston" deftly distills the musical tropes of its day. It's peppy. Listening to it makes you feel peppy. Of course this was overplayed on the radio.
Loveee - one of my mom’s favorites. Definitely prefer this style of rock to others
It’s like every song ever played on classic rock stations is on this album. Seriously. “Greatest Hits” albums don’t have the kind of success rate this one did. Love, hate, or just tired of the genre, that’s a pretty impressive feat for a debut.
I have to admit that I've heard this so much that I'm sick of it. I'll give it a 4 even though I'm feeling 3 because I'm grumpy about hearing it again.
it was nice, some really nice songs
Dorky as hell, cool as hell
I did not know Bostom. Maybe 'more than a feeling' sounded familliar. Amazing.
It's a good album, but, the radio has killed it. I guess we all liked it too much.
This album makes me feel like i’m listening to GTA V rock radio.
Good but basic
Solid. No bad songs.
Enjoyed it! Fave songs 'More than a Feeling' and 'Long Time' 4/5
Great listen!
3 bangers, rest ook niet verkeerd
Classic. Every song is great.
Nice classic Hardrock album
You know "More than a feeling"? Well you get that, then you get a bunch more tracks that are a bit like it. Let go of the cheese and you can't help but enjoy it.
Good classic on here!! 4
Great 70’s rock and roll band Classic jam.
Just a great listen no matter how you view it. Sure there are cheeses lyrics and catchy riffs but that's why half these songs were heaven rotation singles. Great harmony and good fun
3.5/5
It's a popular soundtrack. It's fine.
Cheesy in places for sure, and side A is definitely stronger than side B, but the whole thing is pretty fun. Even the songs I’m not the biggest fan of have some really catchy hooks or guitar solos. Never understood why Foreplay/Long Time wasn’t the opener as it just seems like such a perfect way to kick off an album, but I guess that eternal banger More Than a Feeling works too
Took me back to the days when I was just starting to learn guitar and trying to get it to sound like Boston, and Van Halen and other MONSTERS OF ROCK!
That was a class wee album. I’d only ever heard the first some before but I enjoyed them all.
Better than I want it to be
More than a feeling :-)
Great 70’s hits
Pretty good first two songs
MORE THEN A FELLIN
An absolute classic Album. Boston just rocks!
Reminds me of my dad
I SEE MY MARIANNE WALKING AWAYYYYYYY
Scrubs air band dot gif
good album, not my favorite. some classic hits on there. shorter album than expected.
Every song was instantly recognizable. Distinct Boston sound didn’t realize all their radio hits were on this one album.
Decent 70’s rock.
Excellent production
80’s rock. Can’t go wrong.
Classic rock
The jukebox bar #1 most played album! It was a fantastic band, much respect, but tbh I think it's just been way overplayed at this point in time. It's a lot like Sublime, where I would be perfectly OK never hearing another song from this album again. Mad respect for creating some fantastic sounds back in the 70s. Will likely go down as one of the top 10 in human history.
Well this was pretty damn good for a debut album. Good for any album really. A bunch of iconic songs (More than a Feeling). And honestly a pretty good sound. I’ve kinda moved on a bit from liking this kind of music, but this album is a staple of classic rock. I think it deserves a 4
Rockig
First song recognisable banger, the rest good too!
Du bon vieux rock de Papa américain, à écouter les cheveux au vent dans une Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. “More than a feeling”, “Peace of mind”, le plus prog rock “Foreplay/Long Time”, la ballade un peu cheesy “Let Me Take You Home Tonight”...
Objectively not my bag, arena rock but this is pure joy and had some major bangers. Foreplay was epic and the B-Side was more turned down and richer.
I’ve heard a few songs on this album before this. I can’t imagine this album sounding new - a classic from the second it came out.
Really good
This album just makes me feel like Im 16 and just had my first beer in the woods at campfire next to the girl I'm really nervous to talk to. The production is so dense every moment is filled with just super fun sounds.
Gute
Kenne einen Song besonders gut aus der Spielehalle im Sommerurlaub in Caorle! "Peace of Mind" war das. Natürlich ist "More Than a Feeling" ein absoluter Klassiker! 7.5/10
Thoughts before listening: This is a great classic rock radio album with songs that have been staples of those stations throughout my life. Its also commonly considered one of the greatest debut albums of all time...especially considering the fact that their later albums all pale in comparison. I have heard this before, and certainly know the hits, but am looking forward to listening as part of the 1,001 list. Review: This thing starts out with an all time banger in More Than a Feeling and then just continues from there. There are 8 songs on this album and 6 of them are hits. MTAF, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Long Time, Rock & Roll Band, Smokin', and Hitch a Ride are instantly recognizable to anybody that grew up listening to classic rock radio. The number of hits would make for a fun listen even if the music was mindless drivel...but its not. These are well-written songs with memorable hooks, smart riffs, and strong vocals. Other than MTAF being very overplayed I really can't think of many criticisms for this album. I guess their sound was a bit derivative of other bands that came before them, but when the songs are as good as these that doesn't really matter. I will be adding all of the hits mentioned above to the playlist, and while I don't think this is a 5-star album it is definitely a solid 4.
Fun and impressive given the background of its recording. It's cheesy and uncool, but at least it knows what it is. Absolutely no pretension, it's the soundtrack for a cheap bar, with cheap bar, and a good night. 28/12/23
Tolles Album, More than a Feeling ist ein super Song!
Great solos on several tracks. Nice guitar tone and keyboards. The deeper cuts are all pretty energetic with good riffs. More Than a Feeling is overplayed and it's all a bit cheesy but it's a fun listen. I can't fault it.
Classic Classic Rock that you've heard a million times on FM Stations.
Nice stuff to hear on the radio. I probably wouldn't listen to it otherwise.
More than a feeling is an excellent song. Peace of mind I also really enjoyed. The melodies, the vocal harmonies, very enjoyable. A solid 4-5* for me. Should have given the ELO album 4*...
Some bangers, and the lead singer has a good voice.
Totally rocking let’s go
I was already very familiar with this album. Pretty much every song is great.
While I'm not the biggest Boston fan, this album is a masterpiece and perfectly executed by one person! Sickly sweet vocals, blended harmonies, great guitar riffs and epic keyboard solos with heavy prog influences.
Whilst certainly straying over the line into cheesy a few times, it's a classic album for a reason. The guitar sounds on this record defined guitar tone for a generation, so its influence can't be overstated in that regard. It still holds up, overall, despite the aforementioned cheese factor.
Catchy pop rock! Just very solid all around
Great album. I didn’t love any particular song but I will listen to this album again. 7/10
Short sharp and full to the brim of hits. Not a fan but it's a dope album
Another fantastic debut album from a band that has probably ruined its legacy from overexposure. Every song is a banger. This is the epitome of classic rock. Review of Reviews: People agree it's good, but it is also overplayed. Best Track: .. all of them? Foreplay.
fine
Starts off with an absolute banger: boy what an album this is, I am totally feeling this disco/rock/funk/whatever it is groove. Most popular track will most definitely always hit. Banger.
Quintessential stadium rock. I don’t personally love it, but gotta give them credit for a whopper of a first album. 3.8
One of my favorite classic rock albums. It's catchy, fun, and meaningful. Love it.
A bit same-y towards the end, but having so many organ solos kinda cancels that out for me
All killer no filler. Catchy, bright, happy, high-energy rock. Best song: Foreplay/Long Time
This is the rock album equivalent of blowing your load in the first minute. Nothing these guys did afterwards got anyone to give a damn. Probably because of the shitty name. Album still goes hard though. The band may feel underwhelming in coming years (or in this quickie analogy, in the coming seconds) but it feels great in the moment
I guess I'm in my Dad Rock era? Rating 4 stars.
Boston's debut album kicks off with More Than a Feeling. What a way to kick off a career. Entire album is solid from start to finish. It's just great 70s rock without all the excessive and unnecessary bits.
Fire
Iconic 80’s hits. I will always enjoy this even if I do not request it.
This is album you want to hate but you can’t it’s undeniable. Banger after banger. A stadium rock classic. 8.3/10
Every song is a hit.
It's a banger
Maximal quality per minute, however the album is short. Gets repetitive after a few listens.
I had to check myself on this album. I've never owned it, and it's been years since I was in to "classic rock", yet I knew every track by heart. The guitar riffs, the drum beats, the vocals, the organ. Despite the small amount of 70's cheese, I think all of these songs are objectively well written and expertly performed. It's the epitome of arena rock. There's a reason why this whole album can still be heard on the radio. Going in I didn't expect to rate it so high, but it's just a fun listen, even if some of it is nostalgia based. Best Songs: Every Track, No Skips Listen Again: Yes
CLASSIC
An exciting, rocking album out of Boston by the band Boston called Boston. Lots of Boston. There’s even a mention or two of Boston in the songs themselves. The first three tracks are well known and well-played, but still hold a lot of power and are quite memorable and sticky. The music here is made to be played loud. It rocks from begin to end. The sound is unique in that it sounds a bit like the classic rock of the 50s but more. Everything is played for maximum effect: big, bold music with heart and not afraid to wear its heart on its sleeve. It all portends the coming changes in music, but done years earlier. I wonder if you could trace a line from here to the excesses in music of the 80s: here the excesses is done with purpose and heart, and feels authentic to the artists. It’s not cheap.
I've heard all of these songs probably hundreds of times, but never in this order.
More than a feeling, Peace of Mind and Long Time start the album off really well. Falls away a bit but not much. Decent.
How many hits can you fit in one album? Amazing voices, talent, rythym and instruments. Nearly every song here in s a classic for a reason.
Good
Possibly the greatest debut album of all time. I'm not sure there is a stronger start to an album than More Than a Feeling/Peace of Mind/Foreplay-Longtime. That said, the album takes a pretty noticeable dive after those songs. Still one of the all time bests.
Old school rock
Classic rock, like AC-DC but with meticulous production values and clear vocals. Obvious why this album is one 9f the all-time bestsellers. Even if I genuinely hadn't consciously heard the other seven tracks before (and chances are I have) , they are so much the blueprint of accessible rock music that they sound familiar, even cliché. Great stuff, 4 stars.
Not growing up in an English speaking country comes with the bonus perk of "More Than a Feeling" not being a song that's played at every corner. I shit you not, this is the first time I've ever heard that song. It's pretty good. This entire album is pretty damn good. I'm honestly really impressed, since I was under the impression that Boston was the daddiest dad rock to ever father.
I feel bad because I feel media sort of killed my enjoyment of this album by how much I've heard more than a feeling but it's a solid classic rock album. Great guitar and piano riffs, nice loud vocals. The perfect music for a great road trip with the boys!
4/5 Großartiges Album. Vintage Rock’n’Roll vom feinsten. Toller Einstieg in diese musikalische Reise. 🔥Harmonien
Over the top, zeker, maar ook geweldige nummers. Gaat vaker geluisterd worden.
Classic album. More than a feeling will always be a great song
I have heard this album before and I several of the songs are very well known. The album is relatively short at under 40 minutes. I would definitely listen to it again.
A few great tracks
10/15/23. More classic rock. The first track is an all timer, yet I’m always surprised by the rest of the album. A lot of cool guitar work and catchy melodies. Wouldn’t say it’s my favorite but will always recommend.
Fantastic album with a lot of energy and positive vibes.
Pretty classic sound. Fun to listen to and good vibes all the way thru
Insanely corny but slaps so hard I don't give a fuck.
Classique rock. J'adore le son électronique qui vient avec la guitare. Beau piano sur certaines chansons. Très nice. Belle découverte.
An album which is very groovy, just a feelgood album through and through. Amazing smart with a fairly good middle and end. Nothing major in terms of problems. really good sound production for the 70's. Final thoughts: Really good, from start to end. Genre: Rock, 1976. Rating: 4.4/5
I've never listened to a Boston album but I knew every single one of these songs quite well. This is a really phenomenal album
Absolute classic. I think anyone who says they are a rock n roll fan knows about every song off this album. And for some people, this may not be a good thing. Growing up, classic radio has destroyed this album, for me. Way overplayed, maybe more than even Zeppelin. I'm not saying it's terrible, but I'm still sick of it even today. Is is bad? Absolutely not. All the songs are bangers. This is a good to great album. I just really don't want to hear it anymore. Gotta give a solid 4 for the music, but for nostalgia reasons, it's a 5. When I see this album cover, when I hear a song by Boston, I think of my pre-teen and teen years living on Highlake. Hanging out with the Edwards, Stewarts, Staggs, Standifers and Careys. Add in the Shanks and we had one helluva a youth gang growing up. And a lot of our time was spent listening and arguing music . This album makes me think of better days and times. Is this a very good album? Yes. Do I like this album? Not really. Do I appreciate the memories this album generates? Yes, I love it. Love to all those growing up in the Highlake subdivison during the late70's and early 80's. 4
More than a feeling is obviously an absolute BANGER and the rest of the album is rock solid as well.
Stanslaust stuð! Elska þetta!
Good yaya
4/5. What an awesome album from Boston and just missed a 5 star rating! Not only are the typical classics great on this one, but the deep tracks also carry their weight!
Great Album. Foreplay / Longtime is still the best song on the Album. More than a feeling was the first song I learned on the guitar, and it holds a special place in my heart, but Foreplay / Longtime is just greatness.
It was alright. Would listen again
This is my first review so my scale isn’t set up fully yet, still it was a really good rock album and the instrumentals were amazing.
This album is full of songs that I have grown to love, seemingly through osmosis. I would not categorize myself as a Boston fan, nor have I ever owned any of their albums, but every song on this record was familiar.
Classic dad rock album, and a pretty decent one at that. I think my dad had this CD on repeat when I was growing up so I surprisingly knew all the songs. Most were decent to good and only one or two weren’t memorable at all. 7/10
One of the best classic rock albums that I heard so far. Gold standard
The opening 3 tracks of this album are incredible only to be undercut by a corny “how we made it track” -Rock and Roll band is the lowest point so far. -hitch a ride is a high point Love it. Fun short arena rock.
More Than a Feeling is an insane track to debut with. The album is so high energy, awesome guitar parts, rad organ inclusion, and some belting over the top of it. I may not have a kid, but when listening to Boston we are all dads.
++
I am burnt out on some classic rock and this album falls under that umbrella. I went through a classic rock phase in junior high, and a summer job in college would blast classic rock all day everyday. These songs are catchy and well-crafted, but I can’t picture myself intentionally listening to this album in the future.
Easy 4/5
If I remember hearing correctly this is still the highest selling debut album by a band ever. First 5 songs are all fast paced typical sounding classic rock songs highlighted by Foreplay / Long Time which is defintely the jam of this album with the long lead in. Last 3 songs slow down but still have very solid guitar solos. Something About You is lowkey a heater. I have heard this album so many times so I don't want to be biased based on nostalgia, but this album rocks I enjoy every single song on here. There is nothing really spectacular about it but it is just completely solid all around.
First three songs are BANGERS, specifically Foreplay/Long Time. What a jam. That bassline at the beginning is hype af. First 3 songs and then Smokin' are standouts. The others are solid but nothing crazy special. This is a solid 3.5 for me but I'll round up because of how much I love Foreplay/Long Time and because it's Friday.
This is great. I mean, it's proper dad rock but it's a giant of the genre, most of those bands wish they could get anywhere near an album like this. It's pretty cheesy in a lot of places, it's ever so slightly overblown all the way through, but with this kind of music that's all part of the charm. More Than A Feeling is the obvious standout in a positive way, but the album is really quite good throughout. 4/5.
incredible album
Solid rock album, but to me it kind of lacks emotion/feeling.
One of the great all killer, no filler debuts. The songs have a delicious melodic and emotional edge over competitors backed by powerful performances that make the album come to life.
More than a feeling is already one of my favorite songs of all time.
Wow. After all these years, I only just now noticed that the spaceships on the album cover are really guitars. Who knew. Well, everyone I knew in high school had this album. The first three tracks were on the radio 24/7. And I still meet people that are massive Boston fans. For me this has always been middle of the road 70s rock, but this is one where the Wiki makes all the difference. I loved reading the backstory to this album being recorded mostly by one guy (an MIT grad) in his Watertown basement even more than listening to the album. And I can really appreciate how this was a big shift in American rock music away from blues-based music like Zeppelin. But despite all that hype I really only know the first three tracks and only moderately enjoy them. So a 3 becomes a 4 for the cool backstory and historical significance.
Pretty Great sound with some bangers
More Than A Feeling alone entitles this to a good rating. This type of arena rock is usually a big turn-off for me. Very low hit ratio. But Boston pulls it off! How do they do it? Which brings up a topic I've been thinking about, throughout this 1001 experience. We often get albums which are the "canonically great" example of a style or genre. Sometimes, it's a genre where 90% of it seems to suck. But then... this band does so well. It's as fun and manic and silly as the pinball-looking cover. Is that all some genres are? Someone like Boston comes around, makes a killer arena rock sound, and then hundreds of bands try (and fail) to replicate the formula? That sounds about right. This pairing just works for me. I think they should be the only ones allowed to do it. Nobody else should be allowed to make this kind of music except Boston. By the way, this album sounds GREAT on the ATCs. Great rock sound. 4/5
it was good i liked it a lot recognized the most popular song but ended up liking another one from the album even better.
Very upbeat, some great songs
One of those records where every song is a classic but you're fatigued by hearing them so many times so you dock it a little even though you know you probably shouldn't. If you haven't heard this a zillion times you're in for a treat.
# 35 : Classic rock that sounds sweet. Great songs. A real banger. More Than A Feeling
I like their 2nd album better. It's more consistent. This one has some great songs (obviously More Than A Feeling), but also too many generic 70s rock parts (like Smokin'). Favorite song: More Than A Feeling.
oh hell yeahhhhhhh
Another album that's a victim of its own success. It's overplayed to death and yet, I like it. Quite a bit actually. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure but I can't deny the craftsmanship of the songs and the production. They never topped this which was their downfall but this is a solid listen.
UFO Guitars. Not a huge Boston fan, I think it is because of the vocals. The dude consistently holds onto notes too long or something. But still a pretty powerful debut album
