Zu laut.
Noisy teenage angst. I didn't need this.
Ärsyttävän kuuloista tuo Corganin määintä. Eikä nuo biisitkään erikoisia ole, kaks pinnaa.
I just really don't like rock music that much, some of the songs were fine especially when they had more of an acoustic sound to them. Disarm, Sweet Sweet, and Luna were by far the best examples of that.
Ugh I like smashing pumpkins and maybe I was just in a mood but this album sucked lmao (besides the songs I already had on my liked)
I love alternative rock but it was Too heavy rock for me, ik the vibe wasnt just for me but i enjoyed trying to listen it for some minutes.
Neviem to dopocuvat Raz sa este pokusim 😶
This is not good.
12/01/2026 1. cherub rock - like the drums at the start! very 90s alternative rock, was def expecting that though. guitars are great, especially in the chorus. very angsty... bit emo for me... 2. quiet - love the sound at the start... guitar solo is reallllllly great!! same as the other song... too teenage-angsty 3. today - wasn't mad about it at the start, but just got to the chorus and loving it! beatles lyrics! just not enjoying it.... generally not a big fan of american 90s indie rock, sometimes, the vocals and lyrics get a bit grating. *4. hummer - had a break to go to college and have come back with a full blown cold. not looking forward to the next hour of my life :( the intro to this sounds like one of the songs by lightning bolt i had to listen to a few days ago.... bass is really nice in this one. like the slower, mellower instruments. not looking forward to the vocals though.... just not my thing :/ the lyrics are nicer (at least at the start) in this one though... less whiny/emo. liking the quieter part almost five minutes in... very lovely soft guitar, i know the whole point is the grungey, aggressive guitars, but this is more my jam. love how dreaaammmmyyy it is <3 5. rocket - sounds like a rockier slowdive song. was looking forward to this album going into it as they seemed like a band i would like, but am rethinking this now.... 6. disarm - i can feel my stress rashes getting worse as i get deeper into this song.... liking the more orchestral sound, but his voice is so grating to me and i hate the emo lyrics with that bloody whiny voice. sounds so 90s and i have no nostalgia for it, so i literally do not care!! just boring to me.... not even fun to listen to. 7. soma - please stay quiet..... liking the softer sound... liking the softer vocals more as well. still leaning a bit emo. loving the bass and guitar..... like hummer, but dreamy throughout rather than just at the end. just got loud. killing myself. i like the distortion, but it's too much for me. 8. geek usa - just fuzzy guitars layered on top of each other.... barrage of noise and not in a good way - especially with the bloody vocals on top. love when the songs get dreamy and quieter though!!!! 9. mayonaise - quieter, more psychadelic guitar at the start.... the louder guitar objectively sounds really great, but is just not for me. it seems to be the entire draw of this album though, which is making this a miserable listen. 10. spaceboy - bob dylan reference?? again, loving the more dreamier songs... reallly love the keyboard? (doesn't entirely sound like a keyboard but i cannot think properly right now) in the back.. 11. silverfuck - back to noise :( might try some of these songs on a day where i can actually breathe properly and don't have a headache. really loving the distorted guitar, but cannot connect to the music in any way. about halfway through the song and a gorgeous, soft, wavey guitar has just started.... very echoey, shoegazey.... thinking of different ways to say dreamy..... 12. sweet sweet - thank god this one is shorter. my headache has significantly worsened since starting listening to this.... liked this one though.... *13. luna - liking the start of this. very sweet :) can hear it building up.... not just distorted guitars piled up on each other until it becomes noise!! love the strings in the back. even though i loved this one, cannot say i'm not overjoyed that this is over now... probably not the best album to listen to when all congested with a banging headache. why is this album so long. can't say i would ever listen to any of these songs again.... i really liked the quieter songs, but a lot of this album is constant loud hard/grunge rock, which isn't always my thing. whiny 90s american singers are also a hate of mine (cannot listen to rem, they might be giants or most pavement songs as a result), so did not enjoy the vocals... the softer vocals (like in luna) didn't grate me as much. some of the lyrics were a bit emo and annoying.... but some were also really great! feels like something i'd like on paper, but don't feel anything except sheer boredom when listening to most of the songs :/
Not really my thing
not for me, generally just not a rock fan at all
Wegweisendes Album, aber ich hasse einfach die Stimme von Billy Corgan
Made it halfway thru. Idk it sounds like something I would like but I wasn't meshing with any songs 2/10
Nothing
Energetic, with a couple of big hits. The lead singer has detestable politics and beliefs.
Sok
good example of grunge
Disarm Mayonnaise Luna
Its fine..pretty good 5/10
This one is a challenge. I would probably like Smashing Pumpkins a lot except for one big thing: Billy Corgan’s vocals (also Billy Corgan himself but that’s not really relevant here). He sounds like a strangulated cat and that’s being kind. The songs alone? Pretty good. But I just can’t get past his voice so it’s all ruined for me. It’s pretty hard to ignore a lead singer, you know?
This took me back to high school. I was never a big SP fan, tbh the guys voice annoys me. Probably wouldn't listen again.
Maybe I don’t like the smashing pumpkins
I don't like Smashing Pumpkins, mostly because of Billy Corgan's awful singing. There are a few songs on here that I like, and where I can kind of overlook Billy's voice. So, I guess this likely ranks as my favorite Smashing Pumpkins album, but that belies the general sense of loathing I feel for Smashing Pumpkins.
No album should be more than about 40 minutes. This album is no exception and would have been a better one with 25 minutes cut. I liked some of it, better it was too long and the lack of curation really hampered my enjoyment.
Bändi on kova ja varmaan runollista sanoitusta mutta laulaja kuulostaa välillä koiran vinkulelulta
The best way I can describe this album is that it makes me feel carsick without being in a car.
Too much smashing and not enough pumpkins! I don't have the level of angst needed to relate to this album. Too many songs that sounded the same and not a sound I particularly enjoyed. They kept tricking me with varied nicer/gentler starts to songs just to return to exactly the same noise as all the other songs. Liked (most of) the second half a lot more than the first, but was already somewhat done with the whole album. Favourite song: Sweet Sweet Least: Silverfuck (could have been a lot of them but this one was longest)
Band is good Corgan is not
I've always managed to resist Smashing Pumpkins. Too much anger, not enough soul. Each to their own. Siamese Dream did little to cause a rethink. It's not a bad album. It even has its moments with Today. But it sounds like an album that makes you want to hibernate in the bedroom, rather than get out there and get shit done. I choose getting shit done.
Too slow
Inte riktigt min kopp. Inte dåligt men kommer antagligen aldrig lyssna igen.
Slaps roof of cd. You can fit so many of the same distorted guitar sound and bad vocals in this bad boy
Didn’t really enjoy this. It had its moments, but overall it is dull and uninspiring. Very overrated band. Good for what it is, but no plans on revisiting.
Never really dug them. Mayonnaise and Zero are good, Today is fine. The rest is just there. I know my opinion is unpopular
Was okey, nothing special tbh.
Nirvana-lite delivers yet another boring album, sounding like all other alt rock from the 90s. I love a good dirty guitar tone, but when it’s on every song, they all start to mush together. On top of that, I’ve always had a disdain for Billy Corgan’s vocal style. I can’t understand a word he says and all his melodies sound the same to me. I don’t hate this album, but i definitely won’t listen to it again. It’s too repetitive for my taste, and the sonic palate on display doesn’t jive with me
Good start of the grunge genre. Will always be a nirvana fan though
Instrumentally it's great, but Billy Corgan's voice has always been really grating to me.
Some songs needed to be shorter. Some unmusical stuff and too much distortion. Some good songs in there.
Always found the pumpkins overrated. Liked gish and theres a few good songs on this and melon collie. But overall not a fan.
I don’t get the appeal. They have a few good songs, but everything except “Sweet Sweet” sounds the same on this album: droning, crunchy guitars, few hooks, and Billy Corgan, who ‘sings’ like he’s pushing out a painful shit on each track. I really can’t stand Corgan’s voice nor his whole personality.
The plague of good music aligned with a terrible vocal and worse lyrics continues.
Another familiar album, which I've not listened through that many times, atleast with thought and focus. It feels like a lot of filler songs with the classic hits and few other great songs. The music feels quite dated, especially the grander songs, not something I can honestly say about some other albums of the era that I still like. Smashing Pumpkins never was on my top list for anything, but I've listened to my share of Mellon Collie. In the streaming era tho only few songs have even entered my playlists and only very specific reasons. The band is quirky, grandiose and a bit long winded.
The whole album is not it, but there are a few songs that stood out to me and that I've added to my favorites.
A little too long, and some songs become very whiny. Misses out on the cinematic nature of Mellon collie and that hurts it.
..
(A3/V5)
tried to get into this before and did again but i just can't
Gotta love a million compressed guitars blowing up on every chorus. Add that to any song ever and you have a better song. The birthday song, the 1-800-kars-4-kids jingle, the soundtrack to Avatar... all would be immensely improved with dense exploding layers of guitars. Unfortunately, that's the only thing good on this album, and it only happens on a few songs. The "ballads" are bad, Corgan's voice has no real range, and the drums are recorded weird. A handful of songs are worth listening to every so often but they are repetitive and boring. Oh well, worth a listen every decade or so.
I can see the appeal but it’s just really not my type of music tbh. 37/100
Never liked these guys. I guess I don't understand the appeal.
Maybe stunning 30 years ago. Felt a bit overblown and indulgent. Made me want to listen to Nirvana. BC is now a wrestling promoter.
meh didn’t listen to the full thing, was not inspired
Standard sludge rock. Kind of a one trick pony but listenable
I really just couldn't get into it. hated his voice and just lacked cohesion/good melodies good moments but overall not a fan
Somehow this feels like it drags on longer than Mellon Collie.
nothing special to be honest
Billy corgans voice is an acquired taste that I can't seem to acquire
Never been a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan. After listening to this album, I still am not
This album didn't really do it for me, perhaps it is my lack of nostalgia for my formative years but Smashing Pumpkins was never on my radar except for the mega hits that you even hear on your generic local radio. I was surprised how many shoegaze elements and how prominent thick guitar driven walls of sounds were. I think the production is great and despite liking these atmospheric guitar drenched riffs that are layered, it was not that engaging. Songs meander on way to long for my taste and I know that the vocals are often a hot debate but I thought it was fine. It all works but it wasn't for me. I feel that songs require a bit more dynamic range or other elements to make them stand out more. It all kind of sounds the same to be frank. However, there were some really good songs here that I like Soma which had a bit more going for it. Disarm is also a nice departure from other songs. I don't think I'll revisit this any time soon.
Fine. Feels like a soundtrack you'd hear at a Bushwick thrift store. A few standouts, but suffers from the double LP length problem
There’s a fine line between an album that represents a cohesive sound and one where the artist shows too much of their range & produces an incoherent set of (possibly very good) songs. This album demonstrates the other end of the spectrum: when the focus on the band’s sound results in a bunch of songs that all seem the same. The sound here is recognizable (probably because it was pouring out of every radio & speaker in the late 1990’s), but it’s hard to tell one song from the next. Testosterone-driven lyrics over a wall of guitar power-chords — got it, don’t need to keep listening.
Not my favorite Punkins, but still pretty formative for me. Some songs stand out as absolute classics of the genre. Others are tiring. I just realized on this listen why I have such a hard time listening to SD straight through, and I think it’s the wall of noise attack with no dynamic range. It just tires me out after a while. Melon Collie is still the best for showcasing some different styles and sounds. Also, looking back, how did we give Billy a pass for that voice?! It’s so bad. I’m ok with not-great singers (see 5-star Dylan rating) but he is just terrible.
Sounded okay to me, the more I listened the more I hated the lead singer's voice. Felt similar to listening to Nickelback and eventually I tried to tune out the lead singer's voice. Its unique and all, but after a while its so tiring to listen to.
Kid's menu Deftones
5/10
I don't understand what they mean, and I could really give a f*ck.
I love Today and Disarm, but other than that the songs all sound the same. Good live band, bad listening band.
Boring. Too many songs, each one is too long, and they all sound the same. The 90s were a musical sinkhole.
extremely 90s
I can tell this is good and was fun to listen through once, but 'cause I'm not a rock fan not many stood out particularly EXCEPT: Today which is sweet. Gorgeous guitar on Hummer. Luna is lovely too.
Ok sound.
Billy Corgan can make some songs very good, some highlights like Spaceboy, but to me a bit too slow.
A little noisy for me.
I was underwhelmed by this album.
Not catching fire for me!
Decent voice and talented musicians but unmusical tunes. Can’t dance, can’t repeat them. Just why. 2.5/5
Full disclosure: I’m not a huge Pumkins guy. Hitsene er def hits, men syntes ikke albumet var så engaging som en helhetlig greie.
1. Disarm 2. Cherub rock 3. Mayonnaise Er en 2.5 for meg. Only so much Billy Corgan I can take.
urban beat, rock, 1993 -> 2
Intense, with some interesting dynamics and good guitar sounds, but essentially this is a band venting at length, loud and long, and repetitively. Wearing. Tiresome. Unrewarding. 2 stars
Definitely liked some of the songs, but probably wouldn’t re-listen or gravitate towards it.
Not my cuppa tea. Mayonnaise is good.
Realizing that there are very few AltRock bands that I'd sit and listen to for over an hour
p706. 1993. 2 stars. Noisy, shouty Nirvana wannabees without the talent, plus they have a whiny lead vocalist. There's a couple of decent tunes, but it's still a slog to listen all the way through. And no-one needs multiple +5 minute tracks. Pass.
Competent but never held my attention for more than a minute
I’m surprisingly not a fan of this album. I just don’t like his voice I guess. And I found all the songs to be quite similar and I wasn’t vibing. But I know it’s a popular album and like so many people have these songs in their playlists. It would be an album I have to listen to multiple times to actually get.
Lekkere rock, maar niet mijn soort rock
Good for passive listening but didn't really hook me as other albums did.
Good band from the 90’s. Some good songs.
Cherub Rock has a nice fuzzy guitar. Vocals are laid back and poppy. Distinctly 90s. Drums are punchy. The band members sound like they're having fun. Good opener. Quiet has crunchy doom laden guitars. Even the solo has effects on it that make sound more like Nirvana than Judas Priest. So far this album is a fuzzy dreamy wall of noise. I find it pleasant. Today has a nostalgic riff that sounds like summer break. The fuzz makes its return. Billy's vocals are soft and vulnerable. This is the type of song you'd listen to with your crush on a first date. Hummer is making me wish the production wasn't so washed out with guitar noise. The album cover reflects the samey tone of it all. Rocket isn't worthy of note. Disarm has some nice strings. I like this one. Soma has a psychedelic vibe. Nice guitar solo on this one. It's like they were getting better towards the end of recording this album. Geek USA has an interesting break in the middle that sounds mystical. Guitar is more varied at this point. This is the best track so far. Mayonaise is a sweet song. Sweet Sweet is a interlude. Luna is a sappy love song. Overall this albums is pretty homogeneous and kind of sits in the background. It didn't grab my attention particularly. I won't return to it.
I have to agree with one reviewer who said there is just too much ego in this album. Mixed bag: definitive overall sounds but discordance over-used and yes, lead is bit whiny.
There's this guitar tone that drones on under every song - except Disarm. As least I think it's there. If I am imaging it - then it's a pretty vivid mirage. Cause I imagine it's on every song - except Disarm. Maybe there's a hum that is created when 26 tracks of guitars converge. Whatever it is - it's something. Cause there's a hum. It's there. All the songs have it - except Disarm. Maybe thats just the sound of the album - and the sound of the 90s - all the songs blend into a single tone - a hum - except Disarm. That is the only triumph over the hum.
Really only enjoyed the two recognizable songs. The whiney vocals are difficult to get past. The grungy guitars only worked sometimes for me.
indie rock
No bueno
Not my sound.
Not a sound that works for me. I wasn’t listening to current music when this came out - just Baby Beluga and other kid’s songs. This made me anxious
Too hard core for me, but I hear the talent and artistry
I liked mayonnaise but I don’t really like anything else this album is hard to listen to
Half way through and can't help being reminded of Solstice. Not because they sound like them, far from it. They could hardly be more different. But more because I feel I ought to like it, but there is just some indefinable quality that means I don't. It is most peculiar. Very reminiscent of a band called JJ72 but with this lot I just get bored half way through each track. Can't give any more than a 2, and it's better than a 1.
I really thought I would like this album more than I ended up. Towards the first half of the album I was very excited- the first strong started off really strong and the next few that followed had an amazing rock sound to them. However, after about the fifth or sixth track I started getting really just annoyed by the voice and the sound.
apart from today, I found this to be sooo samey. total znoozefest too.
Some incredible hits here but smashing punkin sound wears out it's welcome over the course of an album
When I was young, I had a Guitar-Hero Knock off on my iPhone and Cherub Rock was one of the hardest songs. SInce I had no friends I played it so much, that I was able to sing along. Anyways, thanks for the flashback, no need to repeat.
90s grunge music was never my thing. I feel the album starts well but gets boring as it progresses. there are songs at the start where you can see they are trying to do something different and something that is a bit more than 90s grunge. The album has moments and great melodies. I would explore more smashing pumpkins. Favourite song: Disarm Least favourite: the latter half ot the album Album artwork: A bit creepy.
Not for me. I might have enjoyed this when it first came oout but it does nothing for me now.
not for me.
Well we missed Cherub Rock in trivia so it shows how memorable I thought that album was after listening. Pretty unremarkable
I was surprised to see how highly regarded this album is because I found it fairly dull. Even the songs I recognized from Guitar Hero weren't doing it for me. A great example of grunge, but an indication that I don't like the genre so much as I like Nirvana. Makes sense since at its core, grunge is a fusion of punk rock and heavy metal, both genres I don't particularly enjoy as much. EDIT: shamefully missed “Cherub Rock” in the music trivia “songs from rock band” category the day I listened to this song twice. Kind of proves my disinterest.
Billy and the Boys were the darlings of the FM radio station of my youth. I never appreciated his whiny voice or their obnoxiously fuzzy guitar sound. Disarm and Today are ok but only out of familiarity. Aside from that: not for me.
I've never been a huge fan of the vocals of the singer. This album was pretty uninspiring for me, and not memorable. A few things here and there were interesting to me but nothing worth coming back to for me. Maybe 3 but probably more like 2.5
4/10 - It is about the same as the other smashing pumpkins album. I felt the same feelings of he cannot sing and the album is screamy. I sort of liked the beginning of mayonnaise but once he started singing it went downhill greatly,
Not my cup of tea
I see why people enjoy the Smashing Pumpkins. It personally just isn't for me
Never got into Smashing Pumpkins too much. When they were a big deal, I was exploring other things.
Nowhere near as good as the other one, shame
meh. It was cool when I was 14
Long dose of nothingness.
Honestly, nothing special. It has decent songs, but nothing really grabbed me
Two good songs.
Alt rock sounds like construction noise to me. I have come to really dislike heavily distorted guitar and drums too high in the mix. Honestly, I find typical alt rock drum grooves to be boring as they're so repetitive, even when they are done well, as they are here. In one song, the guitar tone made me laugh. "Disarm", an acoustic song, was listenable. This album just isn't interesting to me. In fact, I started to ge angry at it and didn't get through the whole thing.
Better than Mellon Collie, but that may be largely because it's shorter. I quite like the music but I can't get past Corgan's voice.
Meh. It was fine; I liked some of the quieter/more instrumental stuff but overall would give this one a pass
I cannot abide by Billy Corgan's constant solipsistic, combative and narcissistic attitude. I also, like many, subjectively do not like his voice. That said, his voice objectively works with his compositions, which are very good and the musical performances on this album are clearly great. Never having listened to an entire Pumpkins album before straight through, this was daunting, but I was carried through by the caliber of the executions, thankfully. Straight til the last track, Luna, where a repeated "I'm in love with you", every emotion falls flat except anger. Corgan simply doesn't convey anything other than rage in a believable fashion. It's as if he's doing his best to capture what others feel. Fortunately there's plenty of rage to go around, and the quality of the music is so on point, that for many it does not matter.
I wish I liked this. Musically it's great but not a fan of Billy Corgans voice. Can absolutely see why people like them and I can hear other artists have been influenced since this album but I think I missed the boat with the pumpkins. 2/5
Eäh eipä vieläkään kovin paljon kiinnosta tämä bändi. liian poppista. 2/5
OK, not one of my favorite bands. A couple of good songs.
Listening to this album made me remember why I disliked The Smashing Pumpkins back in the day. The devil's in the details, like how some tracks drag on to the point where they get repetitive, or how the vocalist's voice sometime isn't mixed well and is too quiet compared to the instrumentation. Some of the slower tracks have the potential to be epic, but are dragged down by the vocalist who's got an unpleasant, 'whiny' quality to his voice. I will say though that a couple of songs like Mayonnaise, Soma, Cherub Rock, Disarm and Hummer are worth a re-listen, even if I really dislike the vocals on this album.
Just a bit dull, innit. Favourite track: Soma.
songs were good but I can't stand the vocalists voice
I just can't enjoy the monotonous sludge of distorted guitars and Corgan's petulant whine.
Alternativ rock, 90’er, grunge
Instantly recognizable as a band. They found their space in the scene and I understand their popularity. The songwriting is alright, and the band also sounds tight. But I just can't tune into their music, stylistically the production sounds too crisp. Corrigan's voice is grating and the songs don't stick with me. I appreciate the fact that the lyrical themes are dark, in a way that seems genuine. But it's easier to relate to that if you dig the music (which I experience when I listen to Alice in Chains)
Too much screaming and minor chords
Nope.
FAVO: Disarm, Soma, Spaceboy
I'm still fresh from not really liking another Smashing Pumpkins album just three or four days ago so hopefully after two I'm done with them. I still don't like the singer's voice and I'm just not a grunge fan.
Some good songs but didn't really enjoy the album as a whole
Sorry, Smashing Pumpkins is not for me. This one is better than Mellon Collie, but only just.
I got through 2 songs, they kinda overplayed and whiny… if I want that vibe I’ll listen to the deftones as they make me head bang 🤘🏼 more … pumpkins are just melancholy without the metal
Meh
Honestly, boring.
De que me suena a mí esto??
Que tostón, tío. Suenan a lo mismo que weezer, pero con un rollo de adolescente castigadito insufrible. No es mal disco. Pero tío, que castigo.
I liked Rocket, but I found the album kind of boring. I have never been a huge fan of Billy Corgan’s voice outside of select tracks, so I won’t hold it against them. I liked the use of strings and varied percussive elements, I just wanted something with more hook, admittedly more like Bullet With Butterfly Wings.
For strong of a full album listening music fan that I am I'm really surprised that I've never listened to this album in it's completion before because this was really popular when I was a returning student at UCSC and there must have been somebody I knew that had a copy of it but I never made an effort to listen to it. I have mixed feelings about this album, so far it's kind of been a little disappointing because it just sounds like a swamp of like sounding songs but then KILLER IN ME KILLER IN YOU comes on and I have memories of thinking oh this must be a really good band but yeah, after listening to the other songs on the album it's just they're just kind of okay. the lead singers voice wears on me after awhile.
not as Whininy ans nasal as I remember it. but it is still very whiny and very nasal. i am not at all a fan. but people around me are. and I have never understood why I really tried. I went in trying to fight my bias and be objective. but I failed. I just dont like his voice. but many others do. and that is fine. Personally if I never need to hear Billy Corgon again i will be very happy. the music was great but
Didn’t hate but didn’t love. It was alright but not my type of genre
I always get the Smashing Pumpkins and Scouting for Girls mixed up even though they sound nothing alike. After listening to this album, it’s no longer a mystery; they’re utterly forgettable!
Really slow and they all sounded very similar. Maybe that's just the signer voice over the music doing that but it did nothing for me. Petty sure I have heard some of these songs in the background of films/ TV shows. Probably won't go back and listen again This is not what I needed on a Saturday. I wanted something to get me moving
I wanted to like it more, don’t know if I had a better sound set up I’d enjoy it but I struggled to hear the music cutting through the noise. No songs stood out to me but I liked how it finished
Nicht meins
Never really listened to The Smashing Pumpkins and this album won't change that. A couple of songs are ok, the rest I found quite boring. Not the right band for me.
If yacht rock was angry, this is what it would sound like.
Meh…Billy Corgan has to be one of the most overrated hacks of the last thirty plus years…decent guitarist but that cat whining voice is beyond annoying and the samey songs bore me to tears, Jimmy Chamberlain is a solid drummer though
Adolescent.
Meh
5/10
Not my favorite time for music. And this represents that sound very well.
Talk about a band thats gotten overshadowed by their lead singer being a jag. I can barely listen to this stuff now since it all seems so navel gazey and ridiculous. The only saving grace for them is the new guitarist that's playing for them now.
Not huge Pumpkins fan. Not a lot more to say
так, ну это не прошлые смэшинг пампкинс, тут в целом все норм, но есть некое ощущение отдаленности от движа, как будто весь объем куда-то далеко закинули и от этого драйвовости плотно так не хватило
meh
Generic grunge droning. A few memorable songs but mostly filler. Terrible lyrics when you can actually understand them. Very of its time. Not a great album.
2.5 honestly I just couldn’t get that into it. After a while the guitars started to all sound the same. I did like the song “Today”.
Worthy but unoriginal.
Wasn't a fan.
Consistent overall album, never the biggest fan
Meh, not really for me. I liked some of the slower or more orchestral songs (I think I'll like their next album more...), but the heavier stuff all kinda sounds the same and I'm not crazy about the vocals.
Cherub Rock, Soma, Geek USA
Not my thing, but there's a couple of decent tunes. That corgan tho.
It's no Homer Simpson, smiling politely
I was so excited to listen to smashing pumpkins, when I realized how little of their music I know. Really nothing special to me. All their songs sound too similar to me
I didn't like this album as much as I thought I would, all the components there it just didn't hit. The albums I rated three stars were way better but the one I rated two stars was way way worse so I think I should've rated that one a one star but oh well.
Boring drone
Not bad but not one I will rush back to
I didn't like this nearly as much as Mellon Collie. It is good, and once again defining Alt Rock, but I don't feel that it carries the same weight personally
It’s aaaiiittteee. I liked Today. Just never was huge on this band
Some songs were okay, but it was too long.
Smashing bumpkins e int bra i guessss
Musiken är ibland helt cool men ofta kinda tråkig och 90-tals klyschig. Billy Corgan suger ass och det är helt för långt
It’s traditionally pretty but I am so bored, good god
to stjerner
I don’t regret listening to it, only regret that it’s not a good album.
got a little hard for me on the second half, giving a 2.5 overall
ok mas não especial
Too discordant for me
die Bedeutung die diesem album beigemessen wird ist für mich nicht nachvollziehbar
An hour-long alt rock album? Cmon man. You don’t need the hour, I don’t need the hour. Keep your sh** to 40 min and call it a day. This feels closer to Black Sabbath than Elliott Smith, and I can’t say I dig it. Has a kind of Dark Nirvana feel to it.
Could not get into this
Not my kind of music/album
Billy is such a whiney wanker. 2 stars.
Made it to track 8, somehow.
I seem to be on a terrible roll, because recently I've been bombarded with 90s alt.-rock albums. They all sound more or less the same, and they leave me bored. Case in point: this. I can hear it is well produced, the songs might be OKish, but there is only so much that this angsty sound can do. It might be one of the more popular albums of that style and era, but it does nothing for me. 2/5
2.5. Good stuff. Don't know it very well though. Today is the greatest...song on the album. :)
Ehh
Какая то фигня
Smashing Pumpkins, perfect for a 7am walk to the bakery in 20 degree weather. It really puts a fire under your foot and makes the cheese danish even sweeter. Would I put this on just for fun when I’m not on a mission? I’m not sure.
not really my style, everything fuzzes together into one intangible blob of sound and nothing tries to differentiate itself from the rest
the well known tracks are surrounded by interminably overlong prog/grunge noise. starts well
Rock for (by?) angry teens? Not particularly the good kind imho. Didn't finish listening because I got a bit bored/annoyed with it. Definitely not Smashing.
Disarm is nice, but I hate the voice
One song one hour long.
Decent
Too hard and monotone
never gave the smashing pumpkins the time of day, probably because the singles that were big are fucking wet and i'm pretty sure the singer is some sort of weird nonce. there's a healthy amount of fuzz going on which is nice, but the over arching feeling is that this is fanny music and the more i listen to it the more i think he's a creepy nonce. weird cos its got all the elements to be great but i got bored of it and i can't stress how much i don't like his noncy wailing. fucking atrocious name too.
Meh
A bit too rock for me
First Listen. I knew a couple of songs. Some good stuff here. I like it. 2/5 for now.
Not my type of music 2/5
I’ve never been one for the grunge thing so I think I’ll need to come back to this a few more times
Not good
Ok
better than expected
A little too grungy
Not a fan
Idk man, really not my thing. I like the metal influences, the rock, and what led here, but not what we got here particularly
A lot of the songs have epic starts, but I'm less of a fan once they settle in. Vocals remind me of Nirvana. American grunge probably won't get a high score from me. "Disarm" is a nice diversion. A 5 on the 10 point scale.
Aldri likt vokalen til Billy Corgan. Pluss for litt artig gitar på noen låter.
Nope
I don't really like the Smashing Pumpkins outside of a few songs, but I found this tolerable albiet boring.
Meh
I didn't like it, it bored me.
Not my cup of tea.
Not a fan of the lead singer's voice, and the overall sound was just... mushy and indistinct. Absolutely nothing stood out to me.
Baš smeće od albuma teško. 1/5, 1/10
This was also a miss for me. Hopefully, I enjoy the next few albums.
God, I can’t stand The Smashing Pumpkins. They get right on my tits. Blerg.
A stain on music
nicht meins
Que un álbum dure 2 horas y 17 minutos debería ser ilegal
Music that sounds edgy but isn't, for people who think they're edgy but aren't. This album left an empty impression on me, kind of like Billy Corgan's voice. I'll remark that Primus did not make the list of 1001; there's an edgy 90s band that you must hear. Forget this.
I just can't take Corgan's voice ...
No fui muy fan :( me pareció monótono
I'm not finishing this album it sucks
I cannot enjoy the songs with that voice. I think I like one Smashing Pumpkins song, and it isn't even on this album.
i hate the fucking eagles man
How is this rated so highly! Can people not hear how bad his voice is! Did not listen, will not listen - over an hour of his voice would likely make my ears fall off!
Mostly just noise
I wish artists would just remaster albums without adding a million things. Not unique to this album but hard to find a version to listen to that feels authentic to the original output of the album. Besides that, just another grunge album. Maybe I don;t like this genre of music. Boring to me
Couple of songs sounded ok but the rest was painful to listen to.
I think the band playing was great on this. First full listen of a smashing pumpkins album. Billy Corgan’s constipated voice ruined most songs for me. Hoping their other albums are different
I tried, I just can’t with The Smashing Pumpkins. Maybe another band covering Today could be cool, but Corgan’s vocals I just don’t care for.
Not for me
i didn't even finished listening to it, it was too boring, i can listen things like that everywhere.
Great name for a band
I cannot enjoy the songs with that voice. I think I like one Smashing Pumpkins song, and it isn't even on this album.
Music like this is why I stopped listening to the radio in the 90’s.
"Don't cross the streams" -- Egon Spengler An unpalatable fusion of Billy Corgan's hamhanded alt-rock songwriting and co-producer Butch Vig's lunkheaded production, this record takes most generic aspects of metal and hard rock and reduces them down to a formula of monochromatic power chords and aimless soloing, broken up only by the occasional overwrought acoustic guitar 'n' strings number. In addition, Corgan's singing is thin and his vocal affectations get old very quickly.
Indie slop. I stopped listening after a couple of tracks. Didn't really get what this was trying to do or be.
This is an ok album with some listenable songs. It is of its time though I think - it should have stayed in the 1990s. Astonishing to see how many 5* reviews listeners are giving this. If this is 5*, what is Ziggy Stardust?
Terrible music. The first half of the album was awful and screeching, and the second half was pathetic and lacking in any interest. The only decent song possibly was sweet sweet.
I'm quite disappointed with this, I actually expected more because they have quite a name.
Grunge is the most overrated genre ever.
Too many
pas mon style
Crap
Hate
Boring. Not my taste. Stopped listensing after like 30mins.
2/10
Way too heavy on the electric guitar, sounds broken. I guess I'm not into alternative rock for sure.
I have nothing good to say about this record, or Smashing Pumpkins, outside of that i appreciate the grand instrumental compositions on occasion here. I came into this record with hopes of having a better experience than I did with Mellon Collie (having two of these albums make this 1001 is overkill), but what I got was much of the same. I cannot stand Billy Corgans voice, I hear no appeal in it other than it being instantly recognizable, if that matters to you. His singing is genuinely grating on the ears when it’s at its lowest points on this record. “Disarm” is a fine song I suppose, but only if you could have the magic powers to mute the audio channel that plays back Billy Corgan’s vocals. I understand the appeal of Death Grips more than I understand the appeal of Smashing Pumpkins. I have nothing else good to say about this record, so I will not say anything else at all.
Kinda boring, didn't get into it as much as Mellon Colie
Me gusta "disarm", el resto no me llama. Paré de escuchar a la mitad por que me estaba aburriendo.
бе
Utter garbage. It's essentially a bunch of high school students yelling, and grunting in their parents' basement, banging things together, and distorting their guitars. Favorite Song: "Luna"
I dont like it 1 star for this album because its sad songs mostly dont recomend it
i dont like it
I don't really like the singers' voice because his voice seems a little soft, for the rock. But I love the guitarist, because he is amazing at hitting all the notes. I would honestly listen to the background without the singer in it.
Bailed midway through second track. The first track felt every second of its near-five minute runtime. The second made Vee feel like she will never understand what the grunge era was even for. Tig feels that while loud can be good, loud was not good in this case.
Lidt kedeligt.. ikke lige mig
I did not hear any music on this album, ONLY noise! If you like that then a good album.
Day 5 - June 6th, 2024 bbbbbBORING (this album tries to be angsty but ends up being cringy). Disarm was the only good thing about this album, but even that couldn't make up for how bad this album is.
I've always found Corgans voice too vague and overtly screamish. I remember back in my youth when I first heard the Pumpkins, I thought the band could be so much better, if they hired a better vocalist. But it's probably me that's a bit off. High pitched screamy voices really turns me off. I never really digged the Pumpkins, except some of the hit tracks on the Mellon Collie-album.
Dull
I hate being a contrarian, I really do, but the general confusion to the Smashing Pumpkins' success and popularity has always been nagging at me. Their unnecessarily long, bland alt-rock that was so terminally 90s seemed more a contemporaneous fluke rather than a testament to some musical prowess. Listening to 'Siamese Dream' and comparing that to any of the much maligned recent releases, it does feel like the band has not changed at all, but the sudden clearer production shows that their music has never been good to begin with. Basically, I am not eloquent enough to properly describe my dislike of the band and the album, but it does feel like I am not getting "it" for the same reason I could give a shit about Tagamotchis. I am not a 90s baby, nor do I hold some nostalgic hard-on for 90s stylings. For that, the album sounds to me utterly lacklustre, bearing all its emotional weight in its lyrics (those too can be quite dumb, though), rolling on with some exceptionally weak writing, practically non-existent hooks, godawful unfitting vocals, trite production that makes each song like a bleached monotone mess, and unjustified runtime. And I feel bad for feeling this way, because it seems like I am missing out on some amazing masterpiece everyone else figured out and I am just some Debbie Downer scratching his head.
Smash this record
I keep trying to listen to The Smashing Pumpkins but fine I get a headache. I think it's his voice. 1 star
90’s music- all the same and all awful. I couldn’t make it through.
Didn’t like this album. I give it 1 star.
Noisy, disruptive.
I cant. Bad mems lol
What a bad album for the weekend.
No!
Not something I'd re-listen to but a 'new' album a day is my 2024 challenge!
i really hate the smashing pumpkins
Yuk.
I simply do not like The Smashing Pumpkins. The vocals are too nasally.
not great
Not a fan
