gal can sing

I need to tell you about the time someone did an awesome version of Beautiful at our local karaoke night. I don’t really remember how this happened but she ended up crowd surfing round the whole pub while still singing. One of the best things I’ve ever seen and I’ve given Christina five stars in gratitude.

Là je n'ai pas le choix. #teamChristina

Stephanie dit 5 alors j’obéi. Une grande voix avec des classiques pop début 2000, ça fait un beau mox nostalgique

i listened to this album constantly when i was 13 years old and being bullied at school and let me tell you, there are a LOT of songs on here about loving yourself and rising above the hate and spreading your wings and soaring and how it's all gonna be ok and your brokenness will not define you and all of that feels REALLY sustaining and empowering for a 13 year girl who's being bullied at school. things changed for me and i got better friends and basically stopped listening to this album once the bullying stopped and haven't picked it up again in two decades until now. it's not perfect, it's messy, it's way too long, it's FULL of emotions and it probably saved my life in a way. i have to give it 5 stars.

I’m a dyed in the wool metal head and I fucking love this album.

This was a great album. I didn’t personally mind the length, because it feels like more of a journey in a way. Her voice was just beautiful, and there were multiple different songs on the album. It’s probably around a 4.5 for me, but I’ll round that up because I don’t give pop music enough credit.

Amazing Feminist Album that clearly inspired a lot of modern music. It feels like each song is a direct inspiration for a lot of female pop songs I hear today.

dirrty is peak

179/1089 Stripped Intro sounding like the PS2 start up sound omg LOVE the transition from Walk Away into Fighter was so smooth, loved that some really solid tracklisting and flowing here. Nothing feels irrelevant. Beautiful is a really nice song. As a Zillenial though, I think I’m a little biased against it though based on it being overplayed and over-performed on X Factor etc at an age where it just didn’t feel relevant to me. but in the album it’s nice Make Over is GREAT. the sort of intense beachy guitar-led salsa sound really suits her and adds a new dynamic to this album. The Sugababes worked on it too?! or rather they were unknowingly and illegally sampled i guess oof somehow i’d always assumed The Voice Within was a Leona Lewis single that i never owned, but hearing it on here makes so much sense The light drum n bass element at the end of Keep On Singin’ My Song is greattt i like Xtina but when i saw the album was 1 hour 17 mins i was a little concerned, however that flew by, what a well structured and considered pop album! i saved 12/20 songs. half of the unsaved ones are intros/interludes but my select faves are: Fighter, Dirrty, Make Over, Get Mine, Get Yours, Infatuation 88/100

Aguilera had pipes. I’d probably give 5 stars to an album of her just belting music scales for an hour. But this has fighter and beautiful on it, so definite 5.

My first thought was - why is this album on here? But after listening I agree it is a must listen. Great album.

I had never listened to this album. But damn I like it.

I love her voice! And I really liked this album.

I really enjoyed this album. I haven't jammed Christina Aguilera outside of what I heard on the radio back in the day. I really enjoyed several of the songs on this album and would enjoy jamming again.

This album is dirty, beautiful, soaring, and the strong singing voice from Christina Aguilera is the cherry on top. The versatility of the tracks(and instant nostalgia for Early 2000s Pop) make this a 21st Century masterpiece. Unfortunately, it has no connection to Halloween. Favorite Track: "Beautiful".

Just some damn good early 2000's pop, simple as. 4.5 bumped up to 5.

I’m at a 5. A lot of my general notes on Christina Aguilera that I wrote down from “Back to Basics” apply here – a remarkable vocal showcase, an operatic power that feels a little unparalleled at points (not as potent here, but still very strong), and much in the same way that album was hard-coded to 2006, this is hard-coded to 2002, still pulling from some of the Neo-soul of the late ‘90s but with a lot of the hiphop / R&B production tricks that Justin Timberlake & Destiny’s Child were using at the time. This album sounds a lot like both at times, with a track like “Dirrty” feeling like it’s more so made for “Justified” than this album, and with “Can’t Hold Us Down” feeling remarkably close to “Survivor”’s general style. There’s plenty more, but I never saw it as a negative or as a ripoff / bite; hell, Christina and Justin toured their albums together, so they clearly knew their styles were similar. I’m a sucker for it, as has been established, and while mileage may vary, I found myself enjoying a lot of these tracks. As far as her vocals go & the production work here, I have little to no complaints, save for a few jarring left turns that don’t feel super cohesive (and I’ll get to that soon enough). Where this album differs from “Back to Basics” comes in a sense of confidence – she’s a made woman by that album, but here, she’s trying to actively make herself, and convince herself along the course of this album that she can break free of all the Disney Channel cookie cutter bullshit as a kid that she disparages about on “Make Over” & other tracks to be a more seriously taken artist, and ultimately, a more seriously taken woman. I would say she really succeeds. A lot of these tracks are worth taking seriously, especially towards the back end (“I’m OK” by itself practically made me cry), and the big hits here are deserving of being big hits. For a 77 minute project, a lot of these are very strong tracks; they’re well-written, well-produced, and there’s an honesty & an earnestness that underlines the album in the mature way she’s looking for. I wouldn’t be at a 5 if I didn’t think she succeeded at that job. There is, however, one nagging thing about this album that I have to point out, because it cannot go unnoticed. The track order is a little messy around in the back half of the album; I think it’s not a big issue until after “Beautiful”, since it feels like the peak of the album (although that’s the 23 years of hearing that track talking), because “Make Over” & “Cruz” feel like extreme left turns, especially the former. Granted, if you flip those tracks, I think “Cruz”’s softer, ‘70s rock inspired style would transition well into the sort of grunginess of “Make Over”, or at least, not feel as jarring after “Beautiful”. “Soar” feels very misplaced afterwards; it’s a soaring ballad that I really like, but its subject matter feels like it could’ve totally ended the album at that point. Hell, it could’ve probably ended the album for real. The 1-2 punch of “Get Mine, Get Yours” & “Dirrty” stick out like sore thumbs afterward; they’re both fun tracks, but they just feel weird after “Soar”. If they had come in right after “Cruz”, it might’ve flowed better. They would've felt weird as hell after most of the previous tracks. "Stripped Pt. 2" feels like it was thrown in as an afterthought, and it barely works as a transition to the final 3 tracks. All that said, I have no notes on the 1-2-3 punch that ends the album; “The Voice Within” feels like it could’ve closed the album, and yet, I think the heartbreak of “I’m OK” adds such a deep context to the self-assurance & self-confidence she’s seeking throughout this album, that it pulls the entire album together wonderfully. Ending on that sad note wouldn’t work, so “Keep On Singin’ My Song” works well as a closer, even if it doesn’t quite end on the bombast I wish it had (seriously, a breakbeat?). I do wish it was a 1-2-3-4 punch though, as the themes of “Soar” would transition wonderfully into “The Voice Within”. Realistically, the track order doesn’t matter that much, but it does keep the album from feeling as fully cohesive as it could have been. Regardless, even if a few tracks didn’t click for me on a first pass because of that shaky cohesion, I think this is a hell of an album for 2002. Honestly, I think it does a way better job than “Justified” did in terms of truly establishing a solo career, given that Justin got a lot of Michael Jackson-rejected Neptunes-written scraps on that one to work from, whereas Christina wrote a lot of these herself, to my understanding. I think it’s even better than “Back to Basics” was, which I already was a total sucker for. I also hear a lot of the modern artists this album influenced, which is a pretty damn strong list according to Wikipedia, so clearly, she did something right. I think this is pretty easily a 5. I think it more than earns it & I’m very glad it’s on the list. P.S.: She sneaks in The Lick™ on "Get Mine, Get Yours", and when my ears caught it, I got mildly annoyed and laughed. I just want anyone in the future to also know this happens as a warning of sorts.

Wow so many snobs in the reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed this as commute listening. Thanks for making me a fighter, capitalism!!!

Might sound stupid but his album meant so much to me as a nine year old child. Can't let little me down with this rating.

Fantastic! Such an amazing voice, so many great songs on this album.

Wasn’t a fan when she first came out but this is a great album.

The year is 2002, I’m a preteen girl still figuring myself out. To say “Beautiful” was a fixture in my room is an understatement. This album holds a special place in my heart. 5/5

Wow, okay, this one caught me off guard. The first time I listened to it was the very same day I was experiencing a sort of mini heartbreak, and it helped a lot with my processing. A friend had counseled me that listening to Leonard Cohen had been very useful for processing his past breakups, so I was primed to understand the value of music in my situation. That time I loved it, but I wanted to be sure that my feelings weren't transient, so I listened to it again a week later when my mood was mood stabilized. I loved it again. Generally I don't think of myself as enjoying pop music, but this truly was fantastic.

This album is a great and versatile pop record, crowned by Christina's powerful voice, which is always such a pleasure to listen to. It has a lot of textures and different genres, all combined with great taste in a very cohesive record.

What a stunning pop album. Her voice is incredible. Great production. No skips.

I cannot imagine young Christina Aguilera doing anything - including such mundane things as addressing an envelope, jogging, ordering pizza, or getting dental work done - without flourishing and gilding it. Girl can turn a one syllable word into a whole opera. Lyrics were cool and fun and super supportive, so I dig that.

COMO PUEDES CANTAR ASI POR FAVOR mi madre

Para mí de las mejores cantantes de los 2000 y no creo que haya debate. A pesar de saberme solo 3 canciones de este album sin duda el mejor hasta ahora. Destacables diría que serían cant hold us down, the voice within y las típicas

Great rhythm and vocals, a classic.

Wow, well I had a sneaking suspicion I might quite like this but it completely blew me away. Fair play, a bold and fabulous album from start to finish. It probably spawned a million dud and/or fake imitators unfortunately, but hardly her fault. And what a wonderful voice. Beautiful is just the most beautiful and uplifting song, written I note with great joy by Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes.

Several bangers, no lowlights, great vocals and great tracks behind it. FS: Beautiful

The birth of Xtina, one of the greatest vocalists to ever do it. There are a few fillers in the middle here but even those are top drawer honestly. Jam packed with hits that changed pop. Each of Can't hold us down, Fighter, Beautiful, Dirrty and especially the Voice Within are all timers, no notes.

First off, at first I thought using Jay Z's Public Service Announcement to kick off the album was a cool idea with some cultural context that I don't understand, but doing some research I see no online discussions of the PSA sample, so I guess that's lost to history. Regardless, her voice is out of this world. Also the transition from Walk Away and Fighter is flawless. The album in general dragged on a little too long for me, so it's a 3.5 instead of a 4, and it gets the round up since this was better than a lot of other albums we've had. 4/5

Очень разносторонний альбом, разные стили, безумно нравится.

A perfect encapsulation of early 00s pop

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

talented vocalist

Pretty damn good. Not really my jam but she has an amazing voice. 5 stars.

4.5/5 Pop Abum almost perfect!!!! The only song that didnt fit was drrty. Xtina's voice carries and she shows a really great range here :)

Stripped Intro - okay get it. 5/5 Can't Hold Us Down - this era of clap-back albums is kinda sad. like i think most femme fronted groups or artists, all got the same criticism that Nikki and Cardi and Cupcakke got today. nothing changed for hip hop :/ (4/5 good not my vibe) Walk Away - (all you gotta do is Walk AwAaaAayyeyey vine) this is the RnB version of Before He Cheats. (4/5 okay good album pacing) Fighter - jesus she has a lot to say okay go off sis 5/5 i didn't know i knew this song. Infatuation - this is that early 00s sound i grew up on. (3/5@me i didn't get into this kind of music and i wish i had had better taste) Loving Me 4 Me - AUGH yes we love numbers gimme that y2k baby. this is a good breather (4/5 it fucks i'm sorry) Impossible - mmm we're in the slow RnB again. i feel like i've heard this song before (2/5 she is talented though) Underappreciated - i feel so bad, i feel like i've heard this on a Sims radio station before (4/5 in my head it sounds like Simlish i really don't know why) Beautiful - oh my god this song (i don't know what to give this because it is one of many songs ruined for me from service jobs) Make Over - okay damn go off (5/5) Cruz - it's giving a country song (3/5 eh) Soar - this is a movie song for sure (3/5 not a great movie but a cult classic type) Get Mine, Get Yours - oh 90s funk hip hop. (4/5 it fucks but it's not quite there yet) Dirrty - okay this is the kind of party jams i remember (5/5 this fucks) The Voice Within - this is just a slow song. it's just a ballad (2/5 a little boring for me) I'm OK - this is a very sad song. (5/5 ouch) Keep On Singin' My Song - a good pick-me-up song for the end of this album. (4/5 it works but a little long for me) overall this album was very good. i enjoyed listening to this more than i thought i would. so i think i have to give it a 5/5. even the interludes flowed.

Amazing, love this

Very good

What has always exhausted me about Xtina was her incessant use of vocal runs, and her general oversinging. I had expected to hear all of that with this record, but instead I got layers. She exhibits control over her voice - only belting when she needs to and when it's most impactful. On the upbeat tracks she's energetic and feisty, on her slower songs she's subtle but dynamic. Her voice aside, these are great pop songs. They're radio-friendly but not bubblegum; the influences from R&B, latin pop, soul, and rock are obvious, and they elevate the album. This is a showcase of what pop music can be when it's trendy but not overly manufactured. And the themes she sings about are important for the general public to hear, aren't they? Simplistic maybe, but still relevant nonetheless. I legit remember hearing Beautiful at the tiny age of 8 and being awoken to the value of self-respect! Lastly, what a perfect source of nostalgia. Nearly everything about this is so reminiscent of my childhood music in the early '00s, from the sudden shift to sexual pop music to the inclusion of Spanish phrases in any song's chorus or bridge. The only problem is that it's long. Albums rarely need to be over an hour long. But fine, that's forgivable in this case. Standout tracks (besides the very familiar singles) are Walk Away, Loving Me 4 Me, Impossible, and Get Mine, Get Yours.

Fantastic album

Holding up a mirror to the world and screaming "SUCK MY DICK, HITLER", Aguilera manages to squeeze her smoky orange skin into some questionable chaps and remind us all who we really are. A timeless classic that stands the test of time.

There are so many bangers perfectly dispersed throughout this album that even though I initially shuddered at the 1hr 17min run time I ended up having a outrageously great time with it. Fighter, Beautiful, Dirrty (with two R's thank you very much) all fucking top top shelf pop songs. Beautiful in particular is an amazing song, would be a great Karaoke song if you can actually sing. Impossible is an excellent demonstration of her range too, big Amy Winehouse vibes.

She's got it all - amazing voice, meaningful lyrics, instruments.

DAMN I WANTED THIS AS MY NEXT ONE SGAHIQOQLAKSNSHGTSGTS I have obviously heard the songs 'Dirrty' and 'Beautiful' before. I have the CD! I like the montage of 'celebrity gossip' (for want of a better term) in the intro. It definitely sets a tone and a scene for the rest of the album. The continuation of the intro later in the album is also an interesting technique I've never seen before. The second track instantly cements it as pop. I was not alive when Christina Aguilera was very famous, so I don't know whether this is really a 'new direction' as she claimed. I doubt it, to be frank. However, just because it's pop doesn't mean it's bad. I didn't think this album would really be amazing enough to be included in this guide, but it seems pretty good. Nice message of feminism in 'Can't Hold Us Down'. I can understand why people didn't (and don't) like this. But it's honestly very, very good! She has a great voice, and it's not just meaningless, producer-written, bubblegum drivel. I hear influence from Latin music. All very danceable -- not necessarily a bad thing! There is a time and a place for art rock, and a time and place for Christina Aguilera. 'Infatuation', 'Underappreciated' and 'Dirrty' all remind me of each other. Rina Sawayama definitely heard 'Loving Me 4 [sic] Me' before recording 'Love Me 4 [sic] Me'. Not only are the titles (obviously) very similar but the songs sound rather like each other. I LOVE 'BEAUTIFUL'. I like the violins that recur throughout. I presume they're synthesisers, however. :( 'Dirrty' does not belong on this album -- it sounds very different. I know she wanted to shed her image, but she could have done that and then left this overly sexualised song off the album... However, I suppose it signified that her old image had now been 'stripped'. I think 9/10. Nevertheless, it deserves 5/5, because I'll be listening again. I did debate giving it a 4, but that's not happening after listening through fully, mainly because ARGHHHH I LOVE 'BEAUTIFUL' SO MUCH. Not for the first time, I wish this website operated using a scale of 10, not 5.

love pop, obviously. christina's vocals are out of this world. faves: fighter (the guitars!!), impossible, beautiful

So many standouts! I like the musical tension and overall mood of everything

Rating: 4.6/5 Short Review: Bold, messy, vulnerable, and surprisingly ambitious. Christina Aguilera takes big swings here. Pop, R&B, soul, rock, confession, empowerment. Not every experiment lands, but the emotional commitment is undeniable. Favorite Track: “Beautiful.” It became an anthem for a reason. Earnest without feeling manufactured.

Christina Aguilera – Stripped This one was never likely to be my genre, but it turned out to be far more interesting than I expected. Stripped is huge, messy, overlong, over-sung, over-explained, and sometimes so 2002 you can practically hear the bootcut denim. But the overreach is not just a flaw. It is almost the album’s working method. The key thing, I think, is control. The opening feels like a blur of media voices already telling Christina’s story for her, and the album then becomes her attempt to seize that narrative back. It is a public image demolition job, a self-defence brief, a sex-positive statement, a trauma record, a vocal showcase, and a serious attempt at old-school songcraft all fighting for space inside the same 77 minutes. That sounds like too much because it is too much. But she was 21 when she made it. Once you pop that age into the mix, the whole thing starts to feel a bit astonishing. This is not a seasoned artist carefully curating a reinvention from a safe distance. It is a young woman barely out of the machinery that manufactured her, already being sexualised, mocked, marketed, compared, psychoanalysed and over-narrated in public, responding with an enormous argument for personhood. The album is also a tug of war. On one side you have Scott Storch and the very early-2000s pop/R&B machinery: blunt feminist statements, clipped vocal cadences, club-adjacent beats, sexual autonomy, glossy grit, guest-rap logic, and all the commercial impact needed to detonate the old teen-pop image. On the other side you have Linda Perry, bringing older songwriting craft: piano, guitar, wound-first directness, Beatles echoes, Four Non Blondes plainness, and songs that feel as if they could survive being stripped of most of their production. Christina clearly wants both, and I cannot blame her. You do not demolish the old image with a tasteful acoustic EP. You need Dirrty. You need impact. You need the old audience to gasp and the new audience to look twice. But spectacle alone would only trap her in another costume, so she also needs Beautiful, Cruz and I’m OK to prove there is a person and a songwriter’s interpreter under the shock. Vocally, she made more sense to me here than I expected. She has not got Mariah Carey’s otherworldly drift. Christina’s melisma is much more physical. It has elbows. There is something of the street fighter in it: forward motion, attack, pressure, a refusal to leave space unoccupied. On weaker material that can be exhausting, but when the song gives her something to push against, it becomes the correct dramatic tool. Walk Away works brilliantly because the vocal excess becomes panic and compulsion rather than decoration. The song is about knowing a situation is bad and still being unable to command yourself out of it. Her voice fights the trap. Fighter is ridiculous in exactly the right way. It is grievance turned into armour. Not subtle, not trying to be. It is basically: “You hurt me, and unfortunately for you, you trained the weapon.” Not a Sunday morning record, but effective all the same. The Storch side dates hard, but often interestingly. Can’t Hold Us Down is wildly 2002 in both production and vocal cadence, but it works as a blunt feminist argument. Get Mine, Get Yours is merely OK, but it is also a perfect little time capsule of major-label sex-positive R&B: low-lit, carefully packaged, and wearing terrible trousers. Dirrty, though, is still remarkable. It is not just a sexy single. It is image demolition. It is the pop equivalent of Daniel Radcliffe doing Equus: not “I have matured slightly,” but “you thought you knew what body I was allowed to have; update the file.” Miley was clearly taking notes. The Latin section is just as heavily signposted. Infatuation comes with every badge on the lanyard: Spanish guitar flavour, percussion, heat, romance, heritage. It is not quietly integrated; it is announced. But it is also a decent song. Good Latina pop with both bite and gloss. The Perry material is where the album finds its strongest bones. Beautiful is bulletproof. It has that plain confidence really good songwriters display, where the thing sounds so obvious you almost think anyone could have done it. They didn’t. Perry starts with a wound, not with the idea of writing an anthem, and that is why the sweep is earned. It has a McCartney-like directness, with those little Beatles-ish falling descents giving it gravity. It gives people a sentence they can stand on. I was the stepfather of a teenage girl during this period, and I know how much a song like that could mean. Make Over is the oddball joy. Linda Perry clearly loves quoting The Beatles, and this one sounds like the Shangri-Las wandering into Abbey Road in spring 1966, being handed flamenco chord changes and told to be bratty. It is trashy, psychedelic girl-pop, almost Tomorrow Never Knows for girls singing into hairbrushes. It should not work as well as it does, but it has bite, movement and a wonderful cheap-thrill energy. Cruz is another proper old-school song, wide-open and unafraid of melody. I’m OK is where Perry’s wound-first method becomes unavoidable. It is underdressed, almost demo-like, with that very Four Non Blondes guitar plainness. Voice, guitar, memory. No glamour escape hatch. It gives the album’s control arguments a private source. Not everything works. Soar is coffee-table uplift: sincere, well sung, but too pre-approved. The Voice Within wants to be a Linda Perry healing ballad, but Glen Ballard ain’t no Linda. It has that “sat down to write an inspirational song” quality and ends up sounding like a movie tie-in. You can practically hear “as featured in the upcoming summer blockbuster” halfway through the middle eight. But even the weaker material helps explain the scale of the project. Stripped is not a tidy album because Christina is not accepting a tidy version of herself. She wants the armour and the wound. The club and the confessional. MTV shock and old-school songwriting. Current impact and lasting significance. That is too much for one album, obviously, but it also feels like the only honest shape the record could have taken. So I’m landing on 4/5, with overreach. More precisely: Stripped is a 4-star album with 5-star nerve and 3-star editing. It is too long, too much, too keen to explain itself, and sometimes absolutely carbon-dated to 2002. But the highs are strong, the self-reinvention is genuinely significant, and the mess belongs to the meaning. A neater version might be a better-behaved album, but probably a less important one.

Saved? ✅ Would listen again? ✅ Would recommend to anyone? ✅ Would buy on Vinyl? ✅

8/10 Best songs: Fighter, Infatuation, Beautiful, Make Over, Soar, Get Mine Get Yours, Dirrty The misogyny and narrow-mindedness in the reviews for this album is insane. So many reviews focus either on Christina Aguilera's appearance or on how they hate pop music from this period. First of all, grow up. Second of all, why are you doing a "listen to random albums" project if you're going into it without the desire or willingness to try different types of music? I could very easily say "gosh I hate pop music" in a review for the Beatles and I'd be lambasted. The same should go for people who do the same for Christina Aguilera. Regarding the album: it's really good. It has this extremely early 2000s sound to it, yet with a twist - pop, R&B, and Latin music mixed together, kind of. There are a lot of "story" songs (sorta), where she's talking about her place in the world and relating to her family, lovers, and other people. I was astonished to hear Make Over, which is a riff on Sugababes' iconic debut song Overload. Maybe my only issue with this album is that it desperately needed editing - it's a bit too long and not all of the tracks seem to be in the right place on the album (ballads immediately after the rockier/poppier songs, for example). It also sort of feels like two albums mashed together: everything from the beginning through Make Over has one vibe (a R&B/pop production style), then Cruz through the end has another (2000s pop). But overall it's a very solid album that deserves its kudos.

Now I know where every girl I knows MSN name came from circa ‘02

It’s a solid early 2000s pop album. 7/10

It was very good!

This was peak Christina

Enjoyed this. She had such a unique voice and Fighter/Beautiful are iconic songs. Some of the album wasn’t memorable, but I enjoyed it overall.

Is it wrong to rate this higher than Mariah Carey? Probably, but I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I think I wrote it off because I never liked Dirrty very much, but every other song is way better. Great transition from Walk Away to Fighter. Highlights: Can't Hold Us Down, Loving Me 4 Me, Cruz, Soar

Assless chaps, pierced nips, and Redman. Doesn’t get any more XXXtina than this.

Pleasantly surprised. Great soul feeling to this one

This is actually a really good album. I enjoy listening to this typical MTV famous artists albums, which I mostly know through the hit singles. As the singles are not telling the full truth, it's exciting to see what more there are to it. Often either hit or miss. This was more of a hit.

Strongest pop album I've heard so far on the list. However i would say we get the message youre a good singer. It doesnt mean you have to ad lib for the entire duration of every song. It's quite unsubtle in that sense. The best musicians reserve their talent and make more purposeful artistic choices.

There is no way that this album is 24 years old! This album has stood the test of time.

Didn't need to be that long .. lotta killa, lotta filla

Сто лет не слушал Кристину, а этот альбом, кажется, никогда не слушал полностью. Хорошая работа.

So I have to be entirely honest - I don't think that I've listened to any Christina Aguilera songs that are not her top 2-3 songs, but wow... I was genuinely impressed at her voice, even though this is now almost 25 years after the release of this album. Overall, I can say that this album was pretty great and I really enjoyed the moments where she would sing very loudly, because usually only people who can sing can do that. I can't really complain about this album.

I really enjoyed this. Not sure if it just coincided with me feeling a sassy queen that day but it was exactly what I was in the mood for.

I knew she was a good singer, but I didn't realize what a great singer she was. Wow! Not exactly m style of music, or I would have given 5 stars, but undeniable talent. A bit too polished on this. BUt it's a pop album. What do you expect?

Surprisingly good album with great variety and great vocals.

I like Christina. I think she’s got a great voice and she can cover the pop lexicon. Beautiful is masterful. Yes there’s some Lao here, but you only need to be genius once.

The late 90s and early 2000s was a pretty glorious time for pop music. The record companies were still flush with cash from CD sales, oblivious of the way the internet was about to bring their castles crashing down. Big budget production and million-dollar videos were worthwhile investments against blockbuster revenues. And there was a generation of ambitious, hard-working young pop stars who benefited from the system. Many got their start in the Mickey Mouse Club; they were child stars, seasoned professionals in their teens, with talent, work ethic and experience. Christina Aguilera was 21 years old when recording Stripped, which was her fourth (!) studio album. Like Stevie Wonder before her, she was well prepared at 21 to impart her own artistic vision on her recorded output. That included a new sexier image, but her firmer hand on the songwriting and production is apparent and fortunately is not limited to a simple "I'm grown up and sexy now" message. There is a kind of feminist-lite theme throughout. It's not academically sophisticated, but it's a damn sight better than the Spice Girls' "Girl Power! Yeah!" philosophy. It's human and inclusive and emotional. Sure, this is pop music, but it is smart and relatively mature pop music. It's really well produced and recorded but never forgets that Christina is the star of the show. Christina has a reputation as super professional in the studio, and you can hear how much work she put into the vocal arrangements and performances. She has a great voice and she has learnt to use her formidable chops in service of the song, which shows a growing musical maturity. I have a few quibbles. Those pants she is wearing on the cover are terrible. And this album suffers from the late 90s trend of being too long. Interestingly, the songs are not over-long (which is a common fault of albums of this vintage), but there are just far too many of them. Imagine if this was trimmed to, say, 12 of the strongest tracks here. It could be a powerhouse 45 minutes. It is of its time, I suppose, but it still sounds relevant today, which it quite an achievement for a pop record. 3.5 stars, rounding up

Stoma bares it all when Stripped. This is a marked improvement over our previous listen of her. Lots of messages of feminism and female empowerment, and Dirty talk. Fighter is top track, Beautiful is a song I recognized and remember. This album is impressive based on my previous exposure to her. (3,9*s) ha-ooh, you go girl.

Some very well done music by CA. Some very emotionally powerful tunes.

I will be es un homenaje a la mejor Withney Houston.

Surprisingly good

8/10 Definitely her best album, I like most of these songs but damn did it have to be this long?

Way better than I expected - out of all pop albums of early 2000s, I think I'll be coming back to this one. Great vocals, interesting beats, the only thing I don't like about this one are the ballads, but they sell.

Good but maybe a little too long. Up until this point the only songs of her's I had heard were Beautiful and Accelerate (with Ty Dolla $ign), so I wasn't sure what to expect. Never realized she was hispanic

With 20 songs you're gonna have a few misses but there are a lot of hits. Even on the lesser tracks Christina's vocals shine. Trim some of the fat and work out some of the iffier production choices and you've got a phenomenal pop record.

Never in my life would I have listened to this album if it was not for this website. I can see why its on here though as its good. the singles released where big hits but there are some great songs on here to get the emotions going. I *may* listen to this again

Ujevn og for lang, men toppene er overraskende høye, og når Aguilera ikke gjør seg så til (som dessverre ikke skjer så ofte), så synger hun sabla bra. Mange solide ballader.

Back to Basics was too long for my tastes, though there was a good album in there. Stripped is too long as well but there is a good album in here even with the length. Stripped is a great example of why I think no albums younger than 10 years old should be on this list. Stripped got mixed reviews upon its release and then it turns out to have inspired a generation of singers. Therefore, it became an important album and worthy of inclusion on this list. The distance from when the album was released gave it a perspective that wasn't present in 2002. Again, there are a lot of good songs on here but the album is weighed down by the volume of ballads and music that should have been cut. I choose albums to keep in my personal collection from this 1001 album listing but it does get hard to keep an album like Stripped which has 4-5 too many songs. Clearly, it didn't affect sales of Stripped. Best tracks: Can't Hold Us Down Fighter Infatuation Underappreciated Beautiful Make Over Cruz Dirrty The Voice Within

This album is CHARGED with bangers, hell yes!

Peak Christina. Absolutely not my bag, to be honest, but all respect for the power in the voice and the presence. A variety of songs, but a cohesive album. Unfortunately, I'm just not keen on the genre. If you haven't heard the G Sweet remix/mash-up of Dirrty and Upside Down (Diana Ross), though, you've missed out. My review is an objective one.

Is this an album I would have listened to if it weren't for this project? Absolutely not. I'm so glad that I did; sometimes getting your head out of your ass and not dismissing something because it's popular is good for you.

Liked it a lot! Very much kinda alicia keys so i loved it!

I can imagine that if I had listened to this at the time it came out, I might not have appreciated it as much—but as I commented to my wife over days of listening to it (77 minutes is kinda long), it's surprisingly good. Christina has a powerful voice, and she simultaneously shows more emotion and more restraint than I expected. There's strength and vulnerability, and while it's not perfect, there are some songs that are fun listens. It's so much more than pop.

Undeniably amazing voice when it's fully used. Hope she has a long career and continues to diverge from the Top 40 pop and into more artistic performances.

Low key vibed with the pop star. Beautiful and dirty… going 4.0

This overstayed its welcome a bit. But honestly there’s a reason she has sold as many records as she has — this is extremely solid pop music. And the album has a surprising amount of variety, too! Enjoyed it. 7/10 Quite Likeable

sexy, y2k, chill

Honestly, I'd never really realised how good her voice was until now. And it's not just some generic 2000s pop stuff either, some of the music behind her was really really good. My favourites were Fighter, Make Over, and Dirrty. The main thing holding this back though is it's length, but other than that I can't really complain.

Above average 2000s album

Tune after tune! A rare instance of the two most famous songs being some of the weakest. They're the catchiest for sure, but the album is really wall to wall great with much more stirring stuff than those two. Soar is particularly excellent.

I've never been fond of Christina Aguilera as a person. However, there is no denying her talent. There's not a singer like her out there, and, though this early 2000's pop sound doesn't necessarily show it off to the fullest, her voice really is beautiful. I think the album was a bit long, but I personally really enjoyed it. It brought me back to an era I really loved as a kid, and the hits off this album still hit just as hard today as they did back then. Yes, nostalgia plays a factor in my ranking, but I really just found this to a be solid, enjoyable experience. Just a bit long.

Gotta love me some christina “wagon wheel watussy”

Pop diva powerhouse

Yes!!!

Good vocals and decent music

Lots of energy in this one.

Pretty peak fire drippy not giving it 5 because some songs weren't for me and only a few made it onto main playlist

very peak

Very good Pop album. Nothing I would choose to play, but If it is on, i’m enjoying. 4/5 Standouts: Fighter, Can’t Hold us Down, Beautiful, The. Voice Within.

She has amazing vocals. She may be the last of the big sound female singers ( no offense to Adele)

Initially I thought, 'why the hell does Christina Aguilera need to make a 77 minute long album?' I was expecting a good 50% at least to be dross, but it wasn't. It was consistently quality throughout and far surpassed my expectations. I should not have underestimated Miss Aguilera.

This is the best Christina album IMO

Prime Aguilera

Team Xtina! I'm maybe inflating this rating to counterbalance misogynists, but this album has bangers. 4.

I have enough confidence in myself to admit this was a pretty decent album. Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5

I have a soft spot for Christina Aguilera, and this album is so good. Her voice is amazing - love that she took this direction after her Genie in a Bottle era!

This album really is quintessential 2000's pop. It has that uber clean compressed to hell production, scientifically formulated perfect song structures, it checks the boxes of having songs with certain vibes that you had to hit with pop in this era- the angry / fight song, a sweet piano ballad, and a sexy song, and all the meanwhile it moves further away from the 90's bubblegum sound. Overall, I like it. Sometimes the songs here come across as a little corny. "Fighter" is a solid pop song from this era, with really nice production, a fitting overdriven guitar, and a good performance by Christina. But hearing it now I picture it being a perfect song for a workout class for grandmas. Maybe at the time it was a little more... i don't know how to describe it.. real? Part of me feels biased to not like these kinds of songs because I grew up playing music with distorted guitars, and it always stands out to me when musicians who don't normally use those kind of aggressive timbres incorporate them into their music. Like vocalists will put on a big fake gravelly raspy tough voice and it is worse than if they would have just done their normal thing. If you're covering a Louis Armstrong song, you don't have to "do" his voice, you know what I mean? "Beautiful" is a great song. This too feels a bit dated for me to hear ~25 years later, but I recall many times being a teenager in these years and seeing that a lot of girls around my age really resonate with this song... so who am I to say as a 12 year old boy then and a 36 year old man now that the song is corny? As an aside, I listen to plenty of corny music and never expect everyone to not cringe at it. If this song had one self conscious teenage girl look in the mirror and start to see themself in a more positive light, then that's awesome. And I know for a fact it had that affect on more than just one. This album is between a 3 and a 4 for me. I've rated some better albums than this a 3, and some worse albums a 4. To me, this leans just a bit more towards a 4.

A couple don’t hit, but it’s crazy how well this has aged.

An extensive journey, seems like a pretty early entry into the modern female-empowerment-R&B that became exponentially bigger in the 2010s if this list is anything to go by In which case, here's to early birds

I remember when we’d hear “Beautiful” playing everywhere. that track alone doesn’t hide from social issues about identity, self-image and expression. Christina Aguilera is immortal because of that song alone.

wel goeie 90s vibes

When I was growing up I never much paid attention to the pop singers of the day, but I was always aware of how great Christina Aguilera's voice was. Listening to this album just cemented that fact for me. The album does go on for a bit too long, but it really doesn't feel like it has twenty songs on it by the time it's over. Just a solid pop album that doesn't have that many memorable songs, but it still sound great.

wait ts tuff

Very fine

A fair, strong pop album. Enough variety in its influences and genres, funny that wiki says at time of release this was a knock that it wasn’t focused, that that was viewed as a negative. She sure can sing, and unlike say the Britney album I heard of the same period, the content of this seems more attached to the artist rather than a group of middle aged men producing. This is a good album, if a little too long. 4 Star

I've been starved for music like this on this list, so I was inclined to like it. But honestly? It impressed me all on its own. Christina was 22 when she made this! The songs are bombastic, all energy, all emotion. She did that! Truly someone who was meant to be a star. It's long, but there's so much variety in the genres and styles, it honestly flew by. Hell yeah Xtina. I will be revisiting this one.

Started out meh, but got stronger throughout and ended up being very good.

Slay the house queen

Her vocal chops shine through the most on the tracks you've never heard. Better than I remember.

Well, that was a surprise! Loved the variety in this album - pop, Latin, jazz, R&B… this album had it all. Solid vocals as well. Definitely not what I was expecting based on the singles I knew from this album (Beautiful, Dirrty, Fighter, Can’t Hold Us Down). Could have cut out a few of the songs from the back half of the album, but overall solid. (4)

Some great vocal gymnastics on this album. Beautiful of course is a masterpiece!! Christina has one of the most powerful and diverse vocals ever.

I am just fascinated by how much I loved this album. I wasn't expecting to have any feelings about it, at all. I was expecting to enjoy a standard early 2000s pop album, like a few things, hate a few things, complain about how long it was (seriously, how is it that long?!), roll my eyes, scream-sing "Fighter" like one of my first breakups, and move on. I have never in my life listened to a Christina Aguilera album straight through, and it took me three days to convince myself to sit down and do it, but man, I just loved it. It's in that familiar early 2000s pop idiom, but it sounds like searching for your own expression (while still holding on to what you know). It sounds like a young artist finding her way toward creating her own art and not someone else's, just those first steps toward making something your own. Maybe it's just the memory of the time and the sound and what that sound brings up in my memory of my life when that sound was around me at the time, but I felt like I could hear that journey in the album. (Also I miss the era of interludes. They're just awesome, can we bring them back.) I just loved it. I loved it on a superficial "woo pop" level and I loved the story of how the album happened and I loved what I could hear of that story in the album. Completely unexpected. I would never have thought to listen on my own, but I'm so glad I did!

That was surprisingly ok. I suppose credit needs to be given to the people who composed, performed and mixed the album in addition to CA, who sang them. It's an incredibly inoffensive collection of songs.

Christina Aguilera is one of the top pop stars of the 90s/00s and this album is a case-in-point example. It is excellent and she is a supreme talent. Dirrty is an absolute banger, Beautiful is a classic positive track. I forgot about the Voice Within and she is so good on it. Overall I think this is a great album, but I'm taking a point off because it's too long. There's definitely a few filler tracks that could've been left off to tighten this up.

Knew a couple of songs on this album. Surprised by the production and songwriting in a good way. There were definitely some songs I'd revisit and add to playlists. Overall, liked it would probably rate a 7.5/10

The vocalsssss. Added several to my playlist. I really enjoyed.

Litttle Mickey Mouse girl showing she's adult... Appreciate childhood bops

Yaaas early 00s girlboss energy pop off

One of the best vocalists of our time! Some of the songs are good and some a little meh but her voice makes them all worth listening too!

I’m honestly happy this album is on this list. I made fun of all pop artists back then and wanted to write this off, but realized the singles were good yet never bothered to listen to the whole album. I stand corrected.

funkier than I remembered

This was an excellent album. Christina can really sing, no doubt. Some great songs in Beautiful, Stronger, and a series of others. Waned a bit in the end for me, but lots of diversity in the tracks which really showed off her range. Great stuff.

16/12/2025 It was a bit long, but i was surprised that this wasn't actually too bad as I was expecting. Spotify listeners: 29.6 million

Nice representation!

'I will never hide what I really feel.' While her message and stance are clear enuf - she's a feminist intent on acknowledging her mistakes ('I keep going right back / To the one thing that I need to walk away from') - Aguilera is, musically speaking, nearly impossible to classify: R&B, rock, hip-hop, Latin folk, jazz. Tho the influence of this record has certainly been recognized, it's quite the experience listening to it all the way thru: its aesthetic really has gone on to become an ubiquitous presence. Even artists as seemingly self-contained as Solange and Amy Winehouse owe something to Stripped. More importantly, as long as it is, the album is simply a pleasure to listen to. She's also dead serious: fuck those who said it's 'almost' for grown-ups.

This album is all over the place in a good way. Everytime I think damn this is a good song, it's written by Linda Perry. She is a chameleon too. The bad songs are really bad, but the good songs are incredible. Her voice is amazing. how was she lumped in with Britney? they are two separate animals.

A bit longer than needed, but a great pop album nonetheless.

This was so great! Christina Aguilera is a great singer, the instrumentation is great, and we hit so many genres here. The horn line and rock aspects were a lot of fun. The stripped dowm songs are also fantastic. This is an easy 4 for me. Liked Songs: "Can't Hold Us Down" , "Fighter" , "Infatuation" , "Loving Me 4 Me" , "Underappreciated" , "Beautiful" , "Make Over" , "Cruz" , "Soar" , "The Voice Within" , "Keep On Singin' My Song"

This album offers a refreshing and diverse mix of tracks and without reading the titles beforehand positively surprised me with the iconic song "Beautiful" right in the middle. A good handful of these I'd listen to on the radio on repeat. Not my usual music genre, but nonetheless a good album.

Favorite track: Fighter

I liked this alot more than I thought I would. She has a pretty great voice. Songs are strong, positive, sensual, and sexy. There's a good mix of tunes. 20 songs is a little long for an album so she could have probably edited this down a bit but that's fine. I'll take an extra track of Christina speaking Spanish in a sexy voice. A few more of those please! :P

It's funny to think back to how Britney and Christina were queens of pop culture at one point in time, and how the media painted them as arch enemies. And also how popular low-rise jeans were! What a weird time. I never got into Christina's music back then, but this album gives me a newfound appreciation for her. I love the girl power. It's kind of all over the place with a mix of pop hits, slow ballads, hip-hoppish tracks and Latin-influenced vibes. And she certainly took advantage of squeezing almost every second out of the length of a CD. The sheer amount of songs started to lose me a little in the middle but then recovered nicely with Dirty and The Voice Within. Dirty is such a banger. It was fun to hear some of her hits again after 20+ years.

I think I just like 2000/2010s pop when it isn't white people making it. This was excellent, especially the opening and closing few songs. It loses some steam in the middle, but even then it gets it back really quickly. Also her voice is incredible, much like the saxophone bonus points this one gets.

Better than I would've expected from the "Genie In a Bottle" bubble-gum pop from her first album.

I was expecting this to be dated, but I think it still holds up. The production is amazing. Sometimes when you revisit an artist like this, you wonder how they ever had such an impact, but I think it's clear why Christina Aguilera was so omnipresent in the early 2000s. In fact, I was surprised to learn that she's released four albums since 2010 because I don't remember hearing anything about these albums on release.

Surprisingly good

I've never listened to Christina Aguilera before but I should have done! I'd mistakenly assumed her genre was disco or lightweight teenpop, but I was wrong. She has a great and strong voice, for example on Walk Away. There's a mix of styles on the album, some of which don't particularly appeal to me, but there's nothing truly awful that I couldn't listen to. I won't Walk Away if she appears in my playlist in future.

So I really did NOT expect to like this.. But her voice is AMAZING and some of the songs are great. Beautiful is the favorite for me.. Solid album.

Very nice vocals. Enjoyed the subject matter of the songs.

A bit long, but a surprisingly solid pop album. Standout songs: Fighter Make Over Im Ok

Looking back, I feel like I was maybe a little harsh on Christina's 'Back To Basics'. Was it really as bad as I made it seem? Probably not. Besides two tracks in the middle where she strokes her ego about how she's an awesome singer who's gonna be popular forever (she says on the album before the one that killed her momentum), I think I mostly just chaffed about how I felt like it failed to live up to its promise. The whole point of the album is that it was supposed to be a modernized take on old school jazz and soul, and she went so far as to make an alter ego for the album ... and yet besides a few shout-outs on one track to people like Etta James, I just didn't hear it. And with it being a needlessly long double album, too ... I'unno, at the time the whole ordeal just got under my skin. Contrast all of that with this album, the one before 'Back To Basics'. As far as I was aware, there were no promises coming in. At least no lofty ones about being "modernized retro" or whatever. Like, sure, sure, there's this undercurrent about Christina shedding her bubblegum image to make deeper, more mature and personal music (she even made another alter ego! "Xtina"). It's part of the reason why she's topless on the cover — I think it's supposed to represent her being more emotionally open. And more sexual, too, I guess. In this way I think she ended up laying the groundwork for a lot of other teen artists' "I'm an ADULT now!" records — but anyway... There's all of that to consider, sure. It's not **not** important. But if I'm keeping things completely honest, at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter to me. This is a pop album, and that by itself is how I listened to this thing. I mean, if someone else wants to be a poptimist and dive into the layers, they're more than welcome to it. Me, I just wanted to listen to this like any rock album — that being, if the tracks are fun to listen to, then it's probably a good record. And y'know what? It's a perfectly good record. I do have a complaint or two, but, I mean, come on, what album is totally sinless? Maybe 'Alpocalypse', but that's besides the point. Let's start with what I liked about this thing. For one, I do appreciate the variety of styles that get tried on here. There's some hip hop-inspired tracks, a funky one, some jazzy/soulful piano ballads ... heck, there's even a rocker, with a neat lil' guitar solo in there. I think I would've expected this album to be just straightforward pop through and through, so it's nice to hear Christian and company tried out some other sounds. Then there's Christian's voice. Now, normally I'm not a **big** fan of it. I think that while she clearly **does** have chops, she seems pretty taken with always wanting to show it off, always belting and going for vocal theatrics. I've read her say she only does them for fun, but I feel it often leaves her feeling pretty hollow as a vocalist. Here, though, she made a conscious effort to pull back on the theatrics, and, y'know, it's nice to hear a bit more range in her voice. It's something else I very much appreciate. And those are the things I liked! I know there's not a lot, but, again, I **was** only listening to this as a pop album. As far as those things go, I say it did pretty good for itself. But let's get to the complaint or two. Let me start by saying that all of the songs on here are, bare minimum, fine. Some of them are good, and at worst they're fine. I don't take issue with any of them on their own. But, however, when your album is twenty tracks and nearly 80 minutes ... yeah, there's a slight problem. Suddenly the fine tracks start to blend with each other a bit more, and you really hafta wonder, honestly, did it **need** to be this long? Which is a thoughtline best exemplified by the closing three tracks. A fellow group member of mine called them a "1-2-3 punch," but to me it was more like, "OK, the album's over now ... oh, there's another song? OK, I guess, I guess it's ended again ... and now there's **another one**? And it's ending **again**? On this breakbeat, of all things?" You can't tell me every song needed to be. We're a few years off from prime CD bloat, but honestly now, it does sort of feel like it. This sort of length thing wasn't an issue for that fellow group member, and, y'know, it's not like it should really be for me anyway. I listened to this thing in chunks, by record side, instead of taking it all at once. And like I said, on an individual level, every song is fine at worst. But I hafta look at the whole picture, and, yeah, it's enough for me to think slightly less of the thing. Still, I easily liked this album a lot better than 'Back To Basics'. I don't think it necessarily made a fan of Christinia, and I'unno if I'd reach for this album first over ones by the likes of Britney Spears or whoever ... but, hey, it didn't get me off ranting like 'Back To Basics' did, and that alone is a major improvement and earns it my seal of approval. Which I know you weren't aiming for whatsoever, Xtina, but still.

Day662 - a fun album. christina aguilera has an amazing voice

Great vocals, enjoyed this a lot more than expected. The song production seemed to compliment her voice nicely while maintaining solid musical backing.

Definitely not my thing, but the woman has serious pipes. Hitting a bunch of sub-genres under a pop flag, it's evocative of Janet Jackson to my ears and contains the only song of Aguilera's I've listened to regularly - 'Beautiful'. It kinda is.

Pretty good .Solid overall pop record

This was pretty good. Missed it at the time, great singing.

There are some legitimately fantastic songs on this album. I am not a big fan of pop music from this time, but of all of the "pop-princesses" of the 2000's Aguilera is clearly one of the most talented and her voice is just undeniable. Also props to her for having writing credit on almost everything on the album. This is a great album.

Pretty good

Much better than I expected even if a little too long. Good pop music and can't deny that she has a great voice.

Honestly if this was half as long with only the best material I'd give it a 5. Her voice is obviously great, and the songs are fun and powerful. She also covers so many genres over the course of this and does them all well, though this does make the album feel scattered. "Fighter" is the highlight for me.

The hits on here are all solid, and even the songs I didn't know are good too. I'm not sure this is one that I'll come back to listen to again, but it was definitely worth setting aside the time to check this out.

What a great year

I had no reaction whatsoever when this was generated. Her work is not something that I would buy but I think that her singing is accomplished and her/her cowriter’s songs are catchy. I thought that this was a magnificent album, referencing abuse, relationship breakdown and self-confidence. It mixed RnB, soul, hard rock, and pop ballad effortlessly, with some standout singles Beautiful and Fighter. So, I was pretty annoyed to see that this album got mixed reviews – the reason? “Lack of concentration” and mixing different genres of music. Like what? Would a reviewer have said of Revolver – well the Beatles are all over the place here with RnB, Rock, Pop and psychedelia. No of course not. I personally feel an album that incorporates different styles of music more interesting. Seemed like an excuse not to rate a perfectly good album by someone the music critics didn’t rate as cool. However, jokes on them as the album sold phenomenally well.

Incredible singer, and Can't Hold Us Down is an absolute banger. Fighter and Dirrty are fantastic too. I couldn't get too excited about some of the slower/ r&b style songs, but Beautiful and I'm Ok are excellent parts of the album too. An eye-opening experience for a longtime Christina Aguilera non-believer!

Um álbum que me surpreendeu positivamente. Muito legal mesmo! QoA Vesper.

To be honest - yes, I'm not a big fan of this style. It's highly polished, and during my youth's era of "child stars trying to find their adulthood" - and most often that was via "I know I am sexy, I'm an adult, deal with it now." There is nothing about this album that shows that Christina is NOT a musician. She has amazing range and vocals, and while the album is all over the place in terms of style - it's an artistic showcase, not a concept album. So for me - it's rating is because it's "not for me" - but it gets a boost because it's not a bad album, and she put in the work.

Before I started listening to this I didn't anticipate enjoying it at all, but as often happens with music, it took me by surprise. The vocals are exceptional. The songs are actually really well put together. Lyrics not particularly relatable but the are at times poignant and emotional. Some of the synth sounds used are sick. Some of the ballads are a little bit bland but they are always real. The hits are HUGE and there are a fair few of them. I'm not a pop music fan so it would be easy for me to take digs at this album but I have to hold my hands up and say it is a pretty remarkable record. Perhaps a bit long and could have been tightened up a bit. As far as female pop stars go, this has been one of my favourite listens. Favourite track - The Voice Within. 8/10

I’m not a huge R&B or Christina fan BUT it is hard to argue with the fact that she is an incredible singer. Having previously only known the hits in this album, I was impressed with some of the other songs (although still not really my style). Solid 4.

Not my style but undeniable voice.

Brings back memories. She has such a great voice, with an impressive range! ★★★★

This one surprised me. I expected just another overly bloated slickly produced, but ultimately empty listen; but, I found a lot here to like. The album is still too long - with editing, I think this could have been a more cohesive and meaningful listen, but it still manages to mostly stick to the central themes of selfhood, and how that can be empowered or scarred by life and love. I must admit, I rolled my eyes when this was the album of the day, but I walked away from my listen a bit called out for my snobbery. Still a bit too slick for my taste in parts, but it didn’t diminish the parts I did like.

Not my style, but it won me over.

Nostalgic and a great pop album. So many good singles on this backed by really great album tracks, although it definitely feels overlong. I don’t know why I never listened to this beyond the singles when I was younger but glad I’ve done it now.

Big fan of both pop and R&B so I liked this. Great riffs, cool production, catchy melodies. Her throaty growls and vocals can sometimes be a bit grating but for the most part, I enjoy her tone.

Man there are some bangers on here

Some absolutely superb songs interspersed with the very forgettable. If this was cut down to a normal album length, I would definitely want to listen to it again! I also appreciate the variety. The rest of the album isn't like the massive singles at all. And what a voice!

Let's go!

Maybe a bit too long, but the quality is good throughout, and the message is positive, even if it isn’t my type of music. I thought I would have to power through this, but I found it capturing my interest.

One of the better 2000s pop albums. Great vocals, as always, and I recognized "Fighter" and "Beautiful". Reading through some of these comments I've come to learn that the only people more sensitive than baseball hall of famer voters are music fans who illogically refuse to recognize even decent talent just because its pop. 7/10

pretty awesome album - it's actually awesome pop music mmmmm with so much different inspos with great vocals

One of those albums that you would not play on the aux, but would play by yourself in the car because it is such a high-quality white girl album.

Man her vocals are so distinct, she's got those runs locked down. I really liked almost all of this. Some peak girl pop of the early 2000s

she has a nice voice

An absolutely singular voice and an album where we can listen to a performer reaching musical maturity.

Good capture of the time in pop.

Fair play she has some bangers. Take some of the filler out of this and you have a stone cold fiver. Simpsons: Yes

Some bangers on her. Not quite back to basics and it trailed off at the end but I really liked it still

Pop as hell. I forgot just how many banger singles this album spawned.

Ok, so I was excited to get this album, to see if it is any good. Because I remember when it came out and how she completely changed how she was viewed. Maybe this is what Sabrina Carpenter is up to now (going from Disney clean Sabrina to dirrty Sabrina). But then I saw the runtime - 77 minutes and 20 tracks for a pop album!! Really? Well, it's actually pretty good, other than the sequence from tracks 5-9 (which included 2 interludes). Otherwise, I enjoyed the listening experience and wasn't hoping for time to pass quicker. Her Can't Hold Us Down collab with Lil' Kim (Kim was the queen of collabs back then) is real good. Great lyrics about misogyny and double standards in Hollywood and regular life, with a pumping beat. Dave Navarro on guitar gives Fighter some extra flair, but damn Christina's vocals. She truly was one of the best pure singers of her pop era. Underappreciated and Keep on Singin' my Song are two other songs where she brings a pretty fierce and energetic delivery. And of course the lead single Dirrty (a thumping rocker). But she also can sing slow and beautiful - listen to Walk Away, Cruz, Soar, and The Voice Within (whew, goosebumps). And let us not forget Beautiful - what a vocal performance, and such a strong message. Also with great Piano work from... [checks liner notes] Linda Perry?! No way, Linda f'n Perry!! (of 4 Non Blondes) There are some overly schmalzy moments, even among songs where her vocals are sublime, which takes the album down a bit. But her ambition and courage to reinvent herself (it worked - risk paid off) while being true to herself brings it back up. Yeah sure, we all balked at her wearing assless (and crotchless) chaps over red underwear and just assumed this album was her trying to be sexual and anti-Disney. But the album is much, much deeper than that. There's so much self-image and self-love positivity and beauty on this album. I'd be happy to let my daughter listen to it and be inspired by it.

Really surprised by this album. Had the radio hits I knew well but there’s a lot of raw emotion and fantastic vocals to be found in between. Clear to tell she was going through a lot. Wild this came out BEFORE The Diary of Alicia Keys given the similarities in some of the tracks. Not a huge fan of Fighter, Make Over, or Dirrty. I much prefer the sound on the rest of the album than these little breaks. Also surprised by how raw “I’m OK” was, never would have expected a ballad on this album about her father’s physical abuse to her during childhood.

Bangin’ pop.

Britney Spears yesterday, Christina Aguilera today. We're in the early 00's again baby! Not so much of that teen/bubblegum pop here however. Aguilera was very much a household name at this point, but she wanted to shake off that cute, bubblegum pop singer label that management essentially molded her into when she debuted on the radio. While I think her debut album is one of the best pop records from that era, I don't blame her for having wanted to break free from all of that and desire more creative control here. This album certainly employs a lot of musical styles and draws on many inspirations. Almost fitting, given Aguilera's generational voice talent. She fits right into the R&B/neo soul vocalist mold. The album as a whole might wander a bit, and runs a bit long, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Christina Aguilera is always pleasant to listen to and many of the songs here share important messages; whether it's about self-worth, feminism, or sex (hey, some find that important!). Highlights: Fighter, Underappreciated, Beautiful, Dirrty

primarily a Diva Delivery Machine ofc, but thats a worthy goal when uve got someone with her voice and charisma...reeks of Effort in a way thats not essential for pop music but certainly a p intoxicating path, and, in what has to one of the big Influential Points of this record, having that effort and power coexist w/ insecurities and vulnerabilities...theres clearly a line from this to everything from reputation to short n sweet. and the songs aint bad either! i do rly need to fill in the big gaps that are my 2000s pop girlie knowledge...britney is clearly the blueprint but reading about this record its p clearly of comparable significance, a huge example of a pop star taking control of her platform and using it for both self-mythologizing and soul-baring ends...v good to be educated in!

This album is a lot more fun than I wanted to admit as I was listening through it. Christina sure can sing and the album is full of R&B and latin influences that really escalate this. Now the album is like twice as long as it has any right to be, but she totally owns her own identity and expresses herself in a way that is bold and fairly emotional. My favorites are probably Can't Hold Us Down, Loving Me 4 Me, Beautiful, and maybe Make Over.

The rockier cuts on this are not great but i get she's attempting to be like "i can do all sides of pop music" and this was still the numetal/pop punk era so i get it but they're just rough. The rnb/pop stuff tho, goddamn some of this stuff is wonderful

yes okay now wheres shakira

I found this album surprisingly enjoyable. I listened to it on Monday morning going to work and it was raining. Beautiful, is a song I used to listen to a lot growing up on those So Fresh CDs, and it still holds up. To me she sounds like at this point in her life she had taken everyones criticism very personally and to heart, this album is her way of saying fu*k you this is me, take it or leave it, I don't care what you think anymore. Dad, I don't think you will like this album, Kieran you are a maybe, I really don't know what you would think of this album haha.

I was really surprised by the amount of nostalgia that came from listening to this album. I’ve never particularly been a Christina fan, but my parents must have played this a lot when it was released as I found myself recognising every song. The songs here are catchy, but it’s definitely the vocals that are the standout feature here. I usually don’t enjoy overly complicated vocal runs, as are often found in pop albums like this, but I guess the nostalgia made this easier to listen to.

Apparently I like Dire Straits. Great mellow listen front to back. sultans of Swing indeed.

Favorite Track: Walk Away

Christina Aguilera's *Stripped* (2002) is widely regarded as a landmark album in pop music, marking a bold departure from her teen pop beginnings into a more mature, personal, and experimental sound. The album explores themes of self-empowerment, vulnerability, feminism, and sexuality while incorporating diverse musical styles. Below is an in-depth analysis of the album's lyrics, music, production, themes, and influence, along with its strengths and weaknesses. --- ## **Lyrics** The lyrical content of *Stripped* is one of its defining features. Aguilera delves deeply into personal experiences, tackling issues such as self-respect, heartbreak, empowerment, and trauma: - **Empowerment and Feminism**: Tracks like "Can't Hold Us Down" (featuring Lil' Kim) challenge gender double standards and advocate for women's voices in a patriarchal society. However, some critics have noted that the song's approach to feminism could feel combative or flawed in its messaging[3][4]. - **Vulnerability**: "Beautiful," the album's most iconic track, delivers a universal message of self-acceptance and resilience. Similarly, "I'm OK" is a harrowing recount of Aguilera's experience with domestic abuse during her childhood, showcasing raw emotional depth[1][3]. - **Sexuality**: Songs such as "Dirrty" and "Get Mine Get Yours" embrace Aguilera's sexual agency. While celebrated for breaking taboos around female sexuality in pop music, these tracks were controversial at the time for their explicitness[4][5]. - **Self-Reflection**: Tracks like "The Voice Within" encourage listeners to trust their inner strength and intuition. Other songs like "Walk Away" explore toxic relationships with poetic vulnerability[1][3]. Aguilera's lyrics are deeply personal yet universal, resonating with listeners on multiple levels. However, some critics argue that the album's thematic repetition—centered heavily on empowerment—can feel redundant over its lengthy runtime[3][5]. --- ## **Music** Musically, *Stripped* is eclectic, blending pop and R&B with elements of rock, soul, hip-hop, gospel, and Latin music: - **Diverse Genres**: The album moves seamlessly between different styles. For example: - "Fighter" incorporates rock influences with aggressive guitar riffs. - "Infatuation" blends Latin rhythms with pop sensibilities. - "Cruz" channels 1970s soul-rock balladry[3][5]. - **Vocal Performance**: Aguilera showcases her vocal prowess throughout the album but exercises restraint on tracks like "Walk Away," allowing emotions to take precedence over vocal gymnastics[3]. - **Production**: Producers like Linda Perry ("Beautiful"), Scott Storch ("Fighter"), and Alicia Keys ("Impossible") bring distinct sonic textures to the album. Perry’s raw production style complements Aguilera’s emotional delivery[5]. Despite its strengths, critics have pointed out that the album occasionally lacks cohesion due to its genre-hopping nature. Some tracks feel overproduced or repetitive in tone[3][5]. --- ## **Production** Aguilera took significant creative control over *Stripped*, serving as an executive producer alongside collaborators like Linda Perry and Scott Storch: - **Rawness and Authenticity**: The production emphasizes imperfections to enhance emotional authenticity. For instance, Perry encouraged Aguilera to retain vocal imperfections in "Beautiful," which added to its sincerity[5]. - **Lengthy Runtime**: At 77 minutes with 20 tracks (including interludes), *Stripped* has been criticized for being overly long. Critics suggest that trimming filler tracks like "Soar" or interludes could have improved the album's focus[3][5]. The production reflects Aguilera’s artistic ambition but occasionally falters under its own weight. --- ## **Themes** Thematically, *Stripped* is a deeply personal exploration of identity and liberation: 1. **Self-Empowerment**: Songs like "Fighter" and "The Voice Within" encourage resilience and inner strength. 2. **Sexual Liberation**: Tracks such as "Dirrty" challenge societal norms about female sexuality. 3. **Emotional Vulnerability**: Songs like "I'm OK" confront painful memories with unflinching honesty. 4. **Feminism**: The album critiques gender inequalities while celebrating female solidarity in tracks like "Can't Hold Us Down"[1][2][4]. These themes resonated strongly with listeners at the time of release and continue to influence contemporary artists. --- ## **Influence** *Stripped* has had a lasting impact on pop music: - It paved the way for artists like Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus to explore personal themes and embrace their sexuality unapologetically[1]. - The album's bold visuals—such as the provocative video for "Dirrty"—set new standards for artistic expression in pop culture[2]. - Tracks like "Beautiful" remain timeless anthems of self-love and acceptance. While initially polarizing due to its provocative content and Aguilera’s image reinvention as “Xtina,” *Stripped* has since been recognized as a groundbreaking work that redefined pop music for the 21st century[1][5]. --- ## **Pros** 1. **Emotional Depth**: The lyrics are raw and deeply personal, offering listeners a glimpse into Aguilera’s life experiences. 2. **Vocal Prowess**: Aguilera’s voice shines throughout the album, showcasing versatility across genres. 3. **Diverse Musical Styles**: The blend of pop, R&B, rock, soul, gospel, and Latin influences makes for an adventurous listening experience. 4. **Empowering Themes**: The messages of self-respect, resilience, and empowerment resonate universally. 5. **Cultural Impact**: The album influenced a generation of artists and opened conversations about female empowerment and sexuality in mainstream music. --- ## **Cons** 1. **Lack of Cohesion**: The genre-hopping nature of the album can feel disjointed at times. 2. **Overly Long Runtime**: At 20 tracks (including interludes), the album could have benefited from tighter editing. 3. **Controversial Lead Single**: The choice of “Dirrty” as the lead single overshadowed the album’s deeper themes due to its provocative imagery. 4. **Repetitive Themes**: While empowering overall, some tracks reiterate similar messages without adding much new insight. 5. **Polarizing Reception**: Upon release, critics were divided on whether Aguilera’s bold reinvention felt authentic or contrived. --- ## Conclusion *Stripped* is a bold artistic statement that redefined Christina Aguilera’s career while influencing pop music for years to come. Its strengths lie in its emotional depth, vocal brilliance, thematic ambition, and cultural impact. However, it suffers from issues related to cohesion and length. Despite its flaws, *Stripped* remains an enduring testament to Aguilera’s artistic evolution—a fearless declaration of independence that resonates as strongly today as it did over two decades ago.

I remember back when the single Dirrty came out and not thinking much of it, considering it done just for shock value. I liked the singles Fighter and Beautiful, but never listened to the rest so I'm curious to dive into this one. This is a good pop album, although a little bloated. Christina has a great voice and shows it off in a multitude of ways. I feel if some of the weaker songs had been cut that this would be an easy 5 star album.

lots of bops

Feminist themes, something about Fred Durst? Latin infused hip hop/neo soul pop Bit of gospel too Funky elements on Underappreciated Source of Fighter, which is a banger! A bit warbly at times.. Best track (previous unknown) - Cant Hold Us Down

I'm not a huge fan of the talking at the beginning of each song, but the songs are otherwise solid - great harmonies and variety. Some songs are much better than others (Fighter, Can't hold us down, Beautiful, Dirrty, The voice within). Songs like "Loving me 4 me" drag on and don't seem to go anywhere.

Oväntat många starka låtar

I like the content of this album it seems like it was her coming of age album. Very introspective, the control she has over her voice was able to amplify that for me. Not to mention her voice is just phenomenal so that also makes me rate this album high. For an early 2000’s pop album it has more depth than I anticipated. I’m a fan and pop music usually isn’t my bag but this album surprised me! Only criticism is the length, I felt she could’ve shortened this album and kept the same impact. 4.2/5

Christina has one of those strong, memorable, and recognizable voices that everyone likes. Her album was very headstrong and showed off her independence and feminism, maybe even a little too much. She also showed intense emotion and vulnerability. I thought this was a good album.

This was absolute heat that I wasn’t prepared for

8/10. I wasn't expecting myself to like it, but this is actually a really enjoyable album. The vocals are incredible, and the production is really nice!

Indie, hip hop Latin music, an outstanding pop.album, very pleasant. Her voice is so beautiful too, a perfect vocal performance. I like this album. Great music!

Walk Away - great ballad, great intro to Fighter Fighter - probably her best song Underappreaciated - really decent Soar - Interesting song The singles are humongous. Voice Within, Beautiful, Fighter, Diiiirty

Feminisme before it was cool - that’s cool. Great pop album. Catchy tracks and huge vocal. Too long.

Uhhh idk why exactly I’m giving this 4 stars except that shawty obviously has like god tier vocal range… a few songs almost made me hard with how Disney they were

big album with multiple hits. pretty good in retrospect

team xtina first full album listen & u know what, i get it

I was at a strip mall parking lot holding two birds trying to keeps them from flying into helicopter blades. My bully was back (V) he keeps showing up but that was 30 years ago. He wants me to price comics for him. One of the birds gets loose and flies right into the helicopter blades. In this parking lot is a one room house. A lot of my old friends are there. Amorphous versions of them. The only one I recognized was Jeremy K. Things I don't remember happened. I did end up in bed with a slightly heavy girl with long dark hair and a voice like Shirley Temple. She was a bit dim. Her breast was in my hand but I wasn't trying to really do anything with her (the Miller H.) She pulled a Swiss army knife out of my pants showing me she was willing to cut my...off if I had tried anything. Then the whole thing turned into my mother's funeral. She wasn't dead yet though. The building was dimly lit. A place I've been but don't remember. Her family was there as well as a Subway Sandwich type thing. My mind kept going back to the birds. My cousin was next to me and my uncle came up and told him he had to be the one to keep it together. Uncle walked off and issued him 'did he have to be the one to keep it together? What I was really asking was his family really so perfect. He said no and started to spill the tea. My mom walked up and said this is the music that should be playing. It was a tin boxed set of Neil Diamond. Inside though was one double cd. There were 3 more spots for more double cds but they were filled with plastic toy parts, broken off candles. She said her favorite Neil Diamond song but I don't remember. Everything was going wrong. The girl that talked liked Shirley Temple was standing and staring at.me with empty eyes and I noticed a painting then my cousin held me as I started crying that my mother was going to die.

Always loved her voice and her step away from her Disney image was an important one. Lots of really good stuff here, but this was a bit of an overachiever. Excellent production, despite all the producers and studios involved. Seems that she had trouble deciding which of the fully produced tracks should be on the album so she chose all. And made it too long.

Of all the Disney kids, she is the voice. Her range and power was/is matched by no other from that era.

This one is a bit long, however it has some undeniable huge pop hits. I think some of the reviews are being a bit harsh. I wouldn't regularly listen to this kind of music, but I can appreciate its cultural impact having lived through it. She has an amazing voice.

Excelentes singles. A primeira metade é meio morna, mas a segunda é só tiro atrás de tiro

Surprised by 1) how much I like this, though also not a surprise because Christina makes her own mark in R&B (and some rock too!); 2) the mention of Britney from track #1. Christina was always such an amzing vocalist but perhaps her style was not as mainstream/groundbreaking/diva-status. She definitely has some nice surprise tracks in here, and I love her vulnerability

There is a vulnerability and girl boss feminism to this album that positions this as a clear predecessor to Beyonce's self-titled album. I've actually never listened to this album the whole way through until now, and I've gained a deep appreciation of Christina Aguilera's powerhouse vocals. I did find certain parts super lame in terms of emotional timbre, which I don't think is of the time considering this was basically when Miseducation came out

This is high quality, and she is an excellent singer. My only criticism is that it could've done with an edit, there's a great 50 min album in here.

Impressive range of vocals, musicality and genres.

An excellent snapshot of 2000s pop divas. Album is balanced with harder dance pop songs, ballads, and everything between showcasing how unbelievable CA is as a singer. I always felt it was very unfair how she was portrayed when this album dropped. She was lumped in with Spears was no where on the spectrum of CA. This album is a little dated, but hits all the notes you expect and is a good snapshot of CA’s total work.

Solid. Amazing vocals

Christina Aguilera's R&B pop sound is generally not my cup of tea but this album pleasantly surprised me - interesting song topics and lyrics, and other genre influences - pretty good actually.

Aguilera has such a strong voice and complete command of it. Sure it’s mostly candy and half of it shouldn’t have been committed to record but there are several tracks that I found, um, … enjoyable. Also, this review is anonymous, right? Nobody will know I actually liked this?

meow 4/5

This album was better than I was thinking it would be. It goes across multiple genres and has some really good songs. Her voice is excellent. "Beautiful" is a timeless classic. Despite this not really being something I would ordinarily seek out, I would listen to this again for sure.

Actually really enjoyed it. A perfect example of well crafted pop with just enough variety to keep it interesting

more albums should be like this!

A lot of bangers, also a lot of filler. Amazing vocals though.

Good pop album. bit dated. Definitely too long

It's hard to talk about Christina Aguilera without mentioning Britney Spears. They were both former Disney child stars who appeared on the bubblegum pop music scene in the late 90s. Both had the same sort of creepy manufactured, highly lucrative, innocent but sexualized school girl image. Spears kind of leaned into that image (no doubt under tremendous pressure from record labels and hoards of fans) but Aguilera broke free. It sounds surprising to me now that this album was considered risky at the time and panned by so many critics. This is the best kind of pop album. It's honest, diverse, and alive. The ballads are larger than life and balance out the other tracks. There's a lot happening here, including R&B, rock, salsa, hip hop and soul. It works because it doesn't stay in one place long enough to get boring. The lyrics don't shy away from sex but turn it into something empowering rather than encouraging objectification. In some ways, this album didn't just allow Aguilera to better define herself, but also helped to usher in the (thankful) end to the wave of Disney-bred bubblegum pop that was inescapable for a few years before it. It was hugely influential on a lot of later pop artists who wanted to do something a bit more interesting than simply fit into the old cookie cutter mold.

Incredible Pop icon

Frustratingly great pop music. Impossible not to love. Some might say ‘that’s the Houmous & Chutney sound’…..3.6

What an amazing fucking album cover. I’m not surprised that it’s an hour and eighteen minutes long. The album uses its length well, but falls a little short of being justified. Can say I never got bored. Plenty of range. Great arrangement. Beautiful composition and production. Her voice is beautiful, although they use it a little too much to the point that it almost becomes a crutch. Great intro, a perfect initiation to the album. Fighter is a bop. I was pleasantly surprised how many songs I knew of off this. I probably wouldn’t listen to the whole thing again, but certainly some songs. 4/5

I was a big Christina fan at the time of Stripped’s release in 2002, and I’m happy to report this album holds up. Christina became a different artist with Stripped. She’s still a pop artist but I feel her true personality came out. For one, she pays tribute to her heritage with Latin music influences. She departed from the sugar sweet pop image and sound to create some absolute bangers. But like, can we talk about how revolutionary the themes of this album are? “Can’t Hold Us Down” is a breath of fresh air after the misogynistic trend in music of the nineties. Christina tells us not to be ashamed of sexuality in “Dirrty.” “Fighter” remains an anthem to this day—I think I could kick box to that song. Most of all, Stripped contains so much self-love before that was even a well-known term.

Some really great songs on here.

Surprisingly enjoyable.

I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would to be honest

Album 585 of 1001 Christina Aguilera - Stripped (2002) Rating : 3.5 / 5 While I've always been a fan of pop music, that had waned a bit by the time this era of pop came along. I wasn't really into all that was going on in the pop world at the time of this album's release. That being said, the music itself doesn't resonate that strongly with me, I must admit that this girl can sing. It is obvious who the talented vocalist was during the whole Christina/Britney thing. Props to her vocals on this album.

Christina Aguilera is a very talented artist. I'm a lot more familiar with her first two albums, but I love this genre shift. Great album!

Never listened to Christina Aguilera before, which is a shame. Really good album.

Pre-listening thoughts: there is no planet where this album needs to be almost an hour and a half. Christina is fine but she gets really loud and I’m just kinda lukewarm on her music on the whole. I think she’s incredibly talented but I’ve never felt the urge to dive into her discography Post/during listening thoughts: she really loves her vocal growl lol. This is also such a product of its time and I kinda like it. Was about to say Impossible sounds like an Alicia keys song but turns out it is! Not sure if this is a hot take or not but the Xtina album that should’ve been on this list should’ve been her self titled. I mean Genie in a Bottle? What a Girl wants??? The whole thing is seeped in 90s teen pop and I know this album is her trying to move away from that sound but mannnn it was so good 😭. Anyways this was like good I suppose. Very much a middle four stars and yall know I hate giving my pop queens less than a five but there’s just too many songs here and not enough of them are stellar + the loudness of it all gets exhausting after a while. 7.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Can’t Hold Us Down, Fighter, Infatuation, Underappreciated, Beautiful, Soar, Get Mine Get Yours Least fav tracks: Make Over

This album has a lot of good songs in it. The songs are also quite diverse.

Halfway through - I really enjoy this, it's quite a nice listen. Didn't realise just how rnb xtina was! So far 4/5

Listened Before? N I really enjoyed this album. A nice pure early 00's pop album. I do not, however force myself to listen to "Beautiful" it's an extremely overplayed song even today. I'm not mad it exists, I just don't want to hear it. I disagree with the reviews from the time saying the album was unfocused... it seems really well put together to me. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Can't Hold Us Down

Actually a good record. Definitely could've been cut down a bit but a lot of good performances and decent enough song topics to keep it all interesting. 7/10

Solid R&B pop great voice

Christina's talent as a vocalist is undeniable. I love pop music. This is a fine album, I'm just surprised to see her with more than one entry on this list. Especially when other female pop artists like Lady Gaga and Rihanna are nowhere to be found? Beyoncé herself only has one album on the list....? These artists have been much more impactful in pop music than either of the albums Christina has on this list. You can definitely tell this list was curated by a straight man. Please get a gay consultant for the next version. Speaking of....next up is...*checks notes* Limp Bizkit....?????

I think this album maybe, ironically, Underappreciated. I quite enjoyed it despite thinking it would probably be 'uncool' on a list like this.

It's a great piece of pop. I'm no great fan of modern RnB but this has songs and attitude and a great sound.

This one's a blessing to listen to. A real singer, a real voice, real talent.

Not that I had low expectations, but this was a surprisingly great pop album. Still not crazy for Beautiful though. 3.5/5

I've never listened to a Christina Aguilera album, but I'm a millenial American woman so I know half of these songs already. When this came out, I was spending my time eschewing popular music in favor of being a pretentious teen with my Björk and Sleater-Kinney cds. These days, I'm much more of a poptimist. At the time, the prevailing sentiment was that it was very important to Not Be Like Other Girls. This is, of course, a very toxic mindset. Through adult eyes I can appreciate the battle that Christina and the other pop girlies of the late '90s and early 2000s were waging against the truly brutal cultural pincers of a controlling music industry, vicious media ecosystem, and regressive patriarchal norms that ping-ponged between hyper-sexualizing and hyper-demonizing young women. It's still not great (ask Olivia now, ask Chappell now, ask Sabrina now) but it's certainly better, because Christina and the girls put their safety and sanity on the line to push the culture forward (Like Janet before, like Madonna before, like Mariah before). I remember the controversy and crudeness that surrounded the release of this album. People focus on the Dirrrty Xtina looks, but listening to it now the theme is less raw sexuality and more the triumph of growing and succeeding in spite of a lifetime of abuses. It has since become a template for young female artists to cast off the shackles of a rigidly saccharine, industry contrived image and launch themselves as multifaceted adult artists. This confidence and independence, in addition to divine pipes, is what really makes a legendary diva. Anyway- if you ain't dirrrty, you ain't here to partayyyy!

Coming hot on the heels of listening to Britney on this app, I was braced for more disappointment. I should not have been so pessimistic. For a start, Aguilera can sing - really sing. And unlike the Beyonce and Mariah Carey albums the app has tossed in my direction, Aguilera knows how to deploy it without overwhelming proceedings. And the music itself? Surprisingly slick and, in parts, sophisticated. There's even a hint of cocktail jazz here. Also, I may have been guilty of dismissing 'Beautiful' in the past, but it's a truly lovely song. The album is over-long, but autre temps, autre moeurs - it was fashion of the time to sell CDs laden with music. Oh, and Aguilera can do sexy, something that Spears attempts but fails to convince.

Forgot about Christina! This album is great, especially "Fighter" and "Dirrrty," which have charisma and attitude. There's a really cheesy ballad here and a Sugababes rip-off, but it's all good otherwise. Surprised by the brief moments where it sounded like Oneohtrix Point Never.

Something about her singing always feels like she's trying too hard. Forcing the power, or something. That said, her range is beastly and this is sugarpop at its finest. Fighter is a quintessential hype song and Beautiful is exactly what every girl needs to hear now and then.

Such nostalgia

The whole point of this list was to make me realise there is nothing I would rather do than sit and listen to 90 minutes of Christina Aguilera.

A few great songs, a few good songs, and a whole heap of filler. The good songs, along with her flawless vocals, lift it above average for me, musically and lyrically. But it could have been so much better with fewer songs (and no interludes) and slightly more consistent production

This album collected all of the popular styles from the 90's and early Aughts from Linkin Park and D'Angelo to some of the more traditional Latin influences. Then slapped pop-icon with a new "almost adult" style on it and let her just absolutely rip into it. The theming of independence, women's strength and independence, and breaking from tradition really hits amongst the changing sounds behind. A great Pop double

Was nice, knew quite some songs

Good for her.

4/5. Honestly hard to find a bad song on this one, as long as your willing to explore it. A diverse mix of pop, Latin, rock, R&B, etc. Christina's vocals create a huge range of beautiful and angry and everything in between. I wasn't familiar with any of these songs, which might be why I enjoyed it more. Just back to front a solid set list. There are some not great songs but not something I can't dig a little at least. Plus we love woman-empowerment in this house. Best Song: Beautiful, Walk Away, Fighter

SLAAAAYYYY

Not bad, but not something I’ll listen over again. Dirty and Beautiful were both good, but overall I think the album is overly long and would benefit from cutting many of the less interesting songs.

I'm not sure this really would be a 4 but it definitely is more exciting than some of the dreary crap I've put a 3 on. It did make me appreciate how much better produced pop music was at the time. Christina can sing and her vocals are only improved by production, and the song writing comes through without being drowned in production. I would guess many people's knee jerk reaction against a record like this is that you can hear the forming of the pop template that would come to plague music for... Well I think it's still going at the time of writing. With all that said, it is overly long for a pop album, a trend I've noticed in similar albums from this era.

More Christina than you can possibly handle. Just wish some restraint was applied when approving the final track list.

I was suprised by this. Truly a document of the early 200s - but what a voice. 'Strip' out 8 of the weaker songs and you have an absolutely kick-arse album. I enjoyed this a lot.

Much better than the other one of hers on this list. Much catchier.
