Favourite tracks: fighter; dirrty; beautiful
This is actually pretty good. I legitimately found myself enjoying this more than most of the other albums I've heard up to this point. Not being huge on the manufactured pop genre, I really don't know much about it or the influences this album is drawing from (I haven't heard anything else on this list like it so far) but I know what this has influenced. Ariana Grande? And yet, being 21 when this came out, I fell into the trap of hating on the image that was being cultivated for Christina. But that's exactly what am confronted with here. I got called a hypocrite in the first track for how I saw her back then. And I can't argue with that. Christina has a gorgeous voice and it's treated so well here. This is a statement of intent, has some genuine bangers, and has a good message that is delivered well. I don't even care. It's a 4 from me.
Some early 2000 classics on here - great memories.
I haven't spent a lot of time listening to Christina Aguilera's music, but I know a handful of her songs, and I have a vague recollection of her possibly having a feud or two with some other pop artists in the late nineties and early aughts. When this album came out, I was in high school, and I absolutely hated pop music like this. But more than two decades later, I appreciate Christina's vocal talent, so I'm excited to give this a shot. As expected, the singing on the album is phenomenal. Even though this isn't the sort of album I'd seek out, it was nice to listen to, just due to Christina's vocal ability alone. Most of the songs weren't to my liking musically, with a few exceptions. "Walk Away," "Fighter," "Underappreciated," "Beautiful," and "Soar" were my favorite tracks. I think the thing that made these songs stand out is that they either have arrangements that are more orchestral and sting-based. "Underappreciated" wasn't heavy on the strings, but I really liked its funk sound. Also, the segue from "Walk Away" to "Fighter" was an absolute masterpiece. I know that's such a small detail, but man, I love a good segue. I wasn't super attentive to the lyrics, but "Can't Hold Us Down" was really clever, and "I'm OK" was absolutely heartbreaking. As someone who survived childhood abuses, "I'm OK" really resonated with me, and you could really hear the hurt in her voice, but you could also hear the healing as well. It was probably the best written song on the album, and it gave me a new appreciation for Christina as a person. Overall, this was a good album. This is not my favorite period of pop music, but this album soundly beats its contemporaries that I've listened to so far. Britney might be a bit more fun, but Christina has a lot more musical talent. I hope her dad has explosive diarrhea every night at 2am.
Enjoyed this way more than expected. Especially "Fighter" is a banger! Also "Impossible" and "Underappreciated" are worth mentioning.
Really liked this
Nice surprise. Had a good time listening to this
Nice!
Love the variety of songs, Christina's voice handles it all
That was surprisingly good - engaging, energetic and full of pretty good vocals. It doesn't age fantastically as the singing style is very much a sign of its time and now it just sounds a bit tacky. Still one of the best albums of its kind tho.
I liked it! Her vocals are beautiful and the overall sound was amazing! that 2000s ending made me laugh, why did they end songs/albums like that lol?
4/5 --> I love pop, so why not 5? - too long - some skips - other reasons I can't think of rn Her voice carries this album
Slapped pretty hard.
I enjoyed it. I’ll give it a four.
Almost a perfect 5/5 if it weren't for there being a half dozen songs on this 20 song album that are really filler and are there to pad out the album. Some of the best vocals in pop history on some of the best pop songs of the 21st century weaving in and out of the occasional Radio Disney level filler. But I forgive it because the vocals are incredible and many of the songs could be hits today and haven't aged a day.
This was a great example of this style of pop music that was so prevalent in the late 90s/early 2000s, although Christina was by far the most talented singer of anyone around back then. The three released songs ("Fighter", "Beautiful", and "Dirrty") were easily the best, but "Cruz" was also good and "Make Over" was surprisingly catchy even though it didn't really fit in stylistically with the rest of the album. Every song was some kind of "self-empowerment" anthem, which got a little old, but otherwise very impressive even if not my cup of tea.
This one has some nostalgia bias from me, but I still love it.
I’m having sweet 16 flashbacks from high school. Easily the most talented singer I’ve heard on this list so far. Those vocals are so good I’d give it a 3 if there was no other lyrics or song writing behind it. That rasp is iconic. That being said the production doesn’t do a ton for me but is overall still memorable for a pop album so I respect it. The lyrics are pretty good and I imagine would do more for me if I was actually the target demographic. Still, I’m not sure if you can tell the story of this era of music without knowing this album. For me, that’s enough to bring it up to a 4.
I really liked this one! It’s pop with real instruments instead of weird synth soundscape stuff and drum machines. Underappreciated is under appreciated, that’s a good song.
Love her voice, what a range. We all know Beautiful but I'm really a fan of Cruz
Good mems! I was never into this when it came out, but I was around 15 and the boys were drooling over her especially Dirrrrrty 😂 I never really took any inspiration from her other songs that were written to be more inspiring and uplifting... because as usual as a kid - I never listened... I only saw what was going on. So yeah, a bit of a bop on some songs, powerful voice, some really average pop songs. I listened to the entire thing without even trying and want to do it again 😁
Really enjoyed this. It's not my sort of music and I'll probably never play it again, but I had it on repeat all day and some of the tracks stuck to me. This girl can really belt them out. Clearly the songs have been specifically written to highlight the power of her voice, so they are very formulaic, but still insistent. Can't deny she's talented. I remember seeing her on stage at an Aretha Franklin tribute event along with half a dozen other 'big name' female vocalists. The Queen of Soul blew them all away except Christina - she was the only one able to compete with Aretha (who was in her 70s at the time!).
Is this a pop album? Yes. Is it a good album? Also yes. Much better than a lot of crap I've listened to on this list and Christina has some pipes on her.
Surprised how much I liked
Bangers!!
For a Pop album, pretty solid.
Very strong album with Standouts in Walk Away, Fighter, Infatuation, and Dirrty.
Better than an average post-pop princess performance. Some intelligent, thoughtful songs.
You know I loved this. Incredible voice, some jams I forgot about. Big fan!
A very good pop album, full of good, listenable songs. 5/5: Beautiful, Fighter, Can't Hold us Down, Walk Away, Dirrty. The Voice Within 4/5: Infatuation, Loving Me 4 Me, Impossible, Soar, 4.5
A solid early 2000s pop album!
ONe of the most underrated voices. She is so soulful. Love her. And "Beautiful" is an amazing song that lifts so many people up!
I think her voice is great. Much prefer it to Mariah or Britney. There are some great songs on this. Hats off to Linda Perry!
7/10
3.5 rounded up due to bops
My heart sank when I saw 20 songs to listen to (Apple Music) and I can be a bit of a music snob when the catogory is pop as I never listen to chart shows. However this was a revelation, some great soul, jazz and even the regular pop songs I enjoyed. Would not necessarily buy this but would be happy to add some of the songs on rotation.
Ah yes Xtina I memba this. Christina was trying to prove she was more than the other manufactured pop stars & I think she did it. I love her voice, could use a few less ohh ahh ohahs tho. Also GIRL POWER!
I'd only heard a few of her songs before I listened to this album today. For the few songs I'd heard before, I always thought she had an incredible voice. This album solidifies that, and the songs are all quite good. Even though I don't listen to a lot of this style of music, I am glad I finally got around to listening to one of her albums.
Solid pop-record, but way too many fillers
Oh I know this album well. I listened plenty in those way too low jeans, on my discman. Such a great bit of pop music and a nice bit of defiant art in response to the mudslinging she had to endure from the media as a woman in the public eye in that decade.
I was expecting another really poorly aged early 2000s pop album but this is closer to survivor by destiny’s child than some Mary j blige album in more ways than one. Not only because it’s aged well but also because it once again makes me feel like a bad bitch when I listen to some of these songs, mainly walk away and fighter. There are a couple songs in the second half that all sound the same, slow, and Amy winehouse esque and make it feel a bit overlong but overall it was a really solid listen. Christina has an excellent singing voice and I also really liked beautiful.
Say what you will, there is no denying this woman has some GOAT pipes. Is this particular album the best showcase of her prodigious talent? Not quite, but still lots to love in here. Beautiful, in particular, is perfection. Dirrty is just good fun. But it does go on a bit.
Though I admit that Christina has a powerful voice, her style is not typically my favorite. There are, however, four songs on here that I really enjoyed. The last half of the album is rich with jewels. I’ll probably listen to it again.
enjoyed it more than I expected - a lot of nostalgia from this era
I mean it slaps at times I see why she was such an icon
Ironically, for an album called ‘Stripped’, it could easily have lost half the songs on here and been a 5 star album. Some great tunes on here but it’s too long. Decent pop album that didn’t need to be over 75 minutes long. Wanked myself raw to the Dirrty video back in the day, too. 👍🏾
Awesome voice! Great album
Only knew a few; quite enjoyed. 4/5
I absolutely didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did.
3.5/5
2nd Listen Christina Aguilera from USA Genre: Pop, R&B Standouts: Beautiful, Fighter, Can't Hold Us Down, Dirrty, The Voice Within. Other: Walk Away, Impossible, Underappreciated, Easy to listen to. Every song is fantastic. Best song on the album: Beautiful. 4/5
A bit long, but full of iconic songs.
4.5
J'ai le 4 sur 5 très facile quand Robert nous balance autre chose que ses groupes de rock et d'indie à la con. Sans parler des groupes de punk et de métal à vomir.
Great! Soar was my favourite track.
Such a great album, lots of different musical vibes, plus great singles.
What the heck? I guess it shows that I shouldn't assume lame pop artists never grow up. First I discovered that Kesha grew up, and now I see that Christina did as well.
Raw and bold for pop music then and even more so now
Although I found many songs on the album just too similar sounding and the album itself was way too long, the 3-4 hits/classics are enough to objectively push it to 4
Well this was absolutely excellent. If the dud "Cruz" was cut, this would be straight up a 5 star album for me. Catchy songs, great variety without teetering into feeling too dispersed and unfocused, extremely well performed on the part of Xtina and the studio musicians. This is just good fucking pop.
Beautiful but bloated. Very obvious how she got a stranglehold for a while in the 2000s.
I didn't expect a long, epic album from Christinia Aguilera, but I suppose that her being underestimated is what led to this expressive and varied manifesto. I was surprised and delighted at how much I enjoyed it.
I really liked most of what I was hearing on this album, but how was that 1 hour and 18 minutes? I could have sworn that I was listening half the day.
I was frankly put off by the 78 minute running time of this album that came to us on my birthday. And the first half of the album (ten tracks if you're counting) had me dreading the rest. While I was impressed by Aguilera's powerful and agile voice, I found no hooks, nothing that made me want to hear anything again. Luckily, the second half, starting with the lovely Beautiful, made up for it and then some. (I actually knew Beautiful from the NBC show Smash. Remember Smash? But I didn't know who had originally done it. Ah, Smash.) From then on, every song got to me in some way or another and completely stuck the landing, leaving me wanting more. That half of the album gets 5 stars.
This was just a bit too long for me… so I’m not sure it’s something I will listen to from beginning to end again. Still, lots of great songs on here and I mostly enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t complain about a shorter version.
Reading the other reviews you would think this album is terrible, people on this are seriously deluded so maybe I shouldn’t concern my self with their opinions and try to be as unbiased to my own tastes as possible. Christina has extreme talent. Her voice has that grit that many female vocalists wish they could imitate. She makes solid pop songs. This album is very complete, the only oddness about it is how stylistically distinct each song is. We’re talking rock, hip hop, soul, power ballad. The work that went into creating this is very evident. Personally I enjoyed it. My main critique is the length. I think if this were a 10 song album, a 4 would be likely.
The 00s was a crazy decade. Sex was omnipresent in pop music. Here in "Stripped", sexuality is also clearly visible, yet, the album raises topics such as self-respect and feminism. Respect to Christina! Incredible energy, beautiful voice, wow
Gotta say, this one surprised me. Sure, it’s way too long at 77 minutes, but they threw everything including the kitchen sink at this one and fuck me, most of it stuck, with a surprising amount of depth to most of the songs. Aguilera kills it vocally whilst keeping the wailing and vocal gymnastics to a minimum. The result is one of the better pop/rnb albums.
Yeah it’s pretty good if too long.I don’t have much to say. It’s a really varied for a pop record which is good and bad.
Really enjoyed this! Loved listening to some old classics, Beautiful, Fighter, Can't Hold Us Down, Dirrty, I'm OK, and also some I hadn't heard before, Infatuation was a highlight of these. Some of these songs really spoke to me when I was growing up, she covered some heavy themes in her lyrics and was a real icon speaking up for the struggles and rights of women and girls. One of the first voices I heard highlighting these issues growing up in an extremely conservative family and I'm so pleased she made it mainstream with this message. Also really appreciate the R&B vibes and Spanish influences throughout the album. A really nice throw-back listen.
Legendary album, she has such an amazing voice and so inspirational/affirming! I couldn't bring myself to save any songs for everyday listening though because so many of these songs are so nostalgic. For me, Aguilera is such classic 2000's music that she is to be enjoyed only on special occassions.
Historically I haven't been a bit Christina Aguilera fan but wow this album pows doesn't it?! Whilst it's not something I'd necessarily go back to I really appreciated it. Full of energy
This surprised me. I knew she was good but this is better than I expected
Surpringsly banging! Her voice really is amazing and the album does have a strong melodic focus. 20 tracks is too long and songs like Dirrty and Make Over detract from the overall experience. But Walk Away, Fighter, Beautiful, Cruz, Keep on Singing... and more. Really enjoyed this.
Not bad
This went on a little longer than necessary, but there’s some good songs in there 7/10 Fave: Dirrty
Wat een stem! De tedere nummers zijn even goed als de stevige.
Definitely too long with some interesting choices as far as song order goes, but damn she can belt. The singles (mostly) crush it and the majority of the other tracks are still really good and mix the sound up. You can definitely see how this influences the sound of artists going forward, Ariana Grande for example shares a very similar vibe.
Two principal facts about this album - one - it's far too long, and two - if it hadn't been so long it would have easily been a five star album. Both sides - the Dirty/Fighter hard anthems and the Beautiful/Voice Within gorgeous ballads are blimmin ace - it's just that with the length, you end up getting less good stuff. Some of the other bits are great too - one track sounds so Sugababes I believe they sued, there's another Latin infused track that J Lo would have killed for.
I really liked this album the first time I heard it and some of these songs are still in my gym mix
Alot of the songs sound the same
Honestly?…….. good album
There’s actually a section, right in the middle of this, where it’s extremely good pop music. It’s all deep cuts, not singles, but I was super impressed at it! A genuine delight! It’s still otherwise too long and a lot of filler, but Aguilera is a technically great vocalist and it’s a lot better than her other entry on this list. I’ve listened to a lot worse for this project.
a little long but, its pretty good 2000s rnb, you can't go wrong with that. nice mix of poppier radio hits and slower sensual and introspective stuff, I enjoyed it. can be a bit on the nose sometimes, but I expect this era of rnb to be a bit cheesy so i can forgive it. enjoyed it way more than back to basics, this was pretty great
Okay album. Girl can sing!
She has an amazing voice and I really like some of her feminist and self empowering lyrics. On the other hand this record is far too long and the music is absolutely not my style, at best it reminds me of club nights of my youth.
From the album cover, you think it'd be a provocative, no holds-barred record. But the themes and messages in "Stripped" seem to go in different directions. I was in whiplash hearing "Can't Hold Us Down" transition to "Walk Away", a piano ballad. And this happens a few times, that the album becomes indulgent and overdone in its mood and runtime. There were some gems that I love though: "Loving Me 4 Me" was so beautiful and reminded me of "4th of July". "Underappreciated" was also pretty groovy. I can hear her influences pretty clearly from both Mariah (vocally) and Janet (aesthetically). She seems to wear them on her sleeve (3-3.5)
Her voice is amazing but lyrics were a bit dry. My fav tracks are Can’t Hold us Down, Fighter and Infatuation.
There's really nothing wrong with this, I'm just not into the genre. I don't need to listen to the whole thing - I suspect my opinion would be unchanged. The music is catchy, pretty standard pop. Christina has a nice voice. I know I've heard stuff like "Dirrty" and "Beautiful" because this matches up pretty well with the time I was watching a lot of MTV and VH1 and probably saw the videos. Songs I'm pretty sure I've never heard like "Infatuation" sound just like other Christina songs I have heard. It's fine, just not for me.
I think the shame is that Christina Aguilera is so much better than her career has turned out to be. This album kind of turned her into a cartoon character, and I’m not sure she ever came back from that. It’s a shame she can fucking sing.
Some absolute bangers here and an overall good album. The production lets it down, though.
6/8/26. First time listening all the way through although I'm very familiar with Christina and the singles from this record. Sounds like a staple of early 00's pop music, touches a lot of different styles. Christina's voice is powerful!
Some great songs let down by its length. Strip it down a bit
She has a powerful voice, but this didn't do the best job of showcasing it. 3/5
Most of this didn’t land with me. It was recorded really well, and I have to admit I love that it’s a ‘big’ pop record that was Max Martin-ed which is awesome. Also her voice is legit incredible - it’s possible there is ZERO autotune on this record and that blows my mind for this style and time period. I also love that this is a showcase of a ‘pop prodigy’ taking creative control. But it does also sound like a record where a 20 year old girl is in creative control, and that was harder for me to understand maybe haha. I thought a few times like this is what it’s like listening to Celine Dion who has the most amazing vocal talent - like maybe in history…. But the style and content and lyrics and everything else about the music is just really hard to understand and get behind.
beautiful was beautiful
Fun album
I'm not a fan of the more r&b stuff, but there were a couple of good songs on this.
she’s so fun i love her. 3.5
Solid pop from a big name. My only previous exposure to her was via Pitbull so it was nice to hear her on her own
Back in the 70s, Sony's vice president, Norio Ohga, requested that a CD be large enough to hold the entirety of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony on a single disc. The benchmark was set using the longest known recording of the symphony, which clocked in at 74 minutes, some go to 78 minutes, and ever since then artists have strived to fill *every* second of that time, and sometimes it's been against their better judgment. Stripped is exactly one of those albums. There is a remarkably solid 35-to-40-minute pop record buried in here, but it's surrounded by way too much filler. As much as I respect her ambition to break free from her squeaky clean Disney image to deliver a bold, hyper-sexualized, and fiercely feminist statement, dragging the concept out with pointless interludes and a staggering 77 minute runtime makes the overall experience feel exhausting and disjointed. That said, you can't ignore the woman's voice. When she actually nails it on tracks like "Beautiful" or "Fighter", she’s incredible. Yeah, she goes a little overboard with the vocal gymnastics, and some of the "edgy" stuff feels kind of forced, but if you look past the bloat, it’s still a pretty impressive showcase of talent that defined a whole era of pop.
Why was Christina vs. Britney even a thing when Fiona Apple was right there?? Favorite track: Beautiful
Wasnt what i was expecting but most of the songs were kinda good and would listen to some of them again
3 stars for beautiful alone. Otherwise just a well performed/produced pop record
The album was okay. It was better than “Back To Basics”. I am not a fan of 2000s Pop Music and former child stars trying to prove that they are adults.
no denying that Aguilera has talent, but this album feels a bit all over the place. the album comes across as frantic, really trying a bit of everything and not mastering anything. you can kinda tell that, with more of her major hits coming from other works. it seems like this piece of work allowed her to lock in, later in her career. but seems like this was a necessary step in her artistry career
I had multiple waves of nostalgia come over me with this one. Not so much because of specific songs, other than Beautiful, but more because this album sounds exactly like the era it came from. The variety of styles blended together also keep the album interesting, and it needs that with the length. Overall a solid album, it just needs to be about a half hour shorter.
I was very surprised by this album. Typically early 2000s female vocalist is my least favorite genre of music. Luckily Christina was able to keep the ooOooOOOOoooOoOoo's to a minimum. I was entertained overall with this album and very impressed with her music style. I would probably rate this a 4 if it wasn't for the length. Still, I was pleasantly surprised.
3.5
Not my vibe usually but I guess it was ok. Too long. Some cool transitions between songs and the production is good (albeit maybe too loud) some surprisingly good songs (“Underappreciated”) as well as surprisingly bad ones (“Make Over”) It does have some of xtinas biggest hits and they hold up imo.
You forget how relevant Christina Aguilera was back then. Fighter, Beautiful are Toyota Corolla car radio staples. It had some other good songs too
Best tracks "Fighter" "Beautiful". This sort of straightforward sexy-pop stuff is not my cuppa tea. It's perfectly serviceable for what it is, but it's not for me. That said, I forgot just how striking "Beautiful" is, which makes great use of her considerable vocal talents. Having not heard it in 10-plus years, it's actually a striking, dare I say beautiful song. Almost enough to elevate the whole thing. Almost.
Tragic that such a great voice has to sing formulaic songs
this album is actually about women empowerment in a male dominated industry. Christina an exec producer and lyrics that resonated with me in a different way than in 2000s. Maybe that's thanks to my own now understanding as a 30 plus year old man. But thank you for letting me listen to his album through a new perspective
Very nice, a sign of the times. Cool to look back on.
I liked this more than I expected too. I've never gone out of my way to listen to Christina Aguilera, but her music is pretty good. This album is very reminiscent of the early 2000s and a lot of these songs were everywhere back then. It was a little too long and not all the tracks hit, but overall positive experience. Favorite Track - Fighter Least Favorite Track - I'm OK ⭐️⭐️⭐️
So many different genres in one album I feel like Christina was still trying to find her 'sound'. Tbh enjoyed it more than I thought I would
There's some bangers here, but plenty I'm not fussed about too
Enjoyable! ‘beautiful’ was in my head all day after this
5 - Great voice but songs were mediocre
If it was half the length it would easily earn another star
it's alright.
Fantastic voice, great mix of songs. We can go home now. 3.
fighter de las mejores canciones ever. muy buen repertorio, te amo xtinaaa
I used to be one of those 'all pop music sucks' guys in my youth. I was (and still sometimes am) contrarian by nature. But now I have a greater appreciation for a lot of pop music. I remember a few of these songs from when I was growing up. Specifically, Fighter, Beautiful, and Dirrty are all good pop songs. Unfortunately, this album is overly long.
good but not really up my alley
Possibly the most jarringly rogue album I've seen on this website.. Was ready to hate, but had some decent pop/R&B melody vibes. Some of it is total cornball shit still.
She obviously has an amazing voice and there are some hits on this album but did it really need to be 80 mins long?
Amazing theme and such but it gets quite boring
another entry by christina aguilera, with a fresher sound and wanting to prove that she's not the younger and more innocent version of herself anymore. heard "fighter" on the radio at least a thousand times. if there's one thing this album has over the last one of hers i listened to, it's inventiveness. tracks have interludes, basic musical themes and i'd argue and say that i can tolerate her runs a little more... it's still christina aguilera though. i'm just not the right audience for this music i think... love, passion, self-worth, and the times and turmoils of a pop diva. i guess.
Not quite as good as Back to Basics. Some good stuff on there but too long.
I know objectively this is a good album!, there are songs that I enjoy, I just have this thing that I don't like some stuff mostly by his type of music that I have disliked since I heard this album it wasn't for me!
I respect it, but I am bored by it.
Infatuation, loving 4 me, Keep on singin my song
This kinda music just isn't ever gonna be for me. It's really good for what it is though, really solid girlboss 2000s American pop. Her voice is good, there are a few bangers, I liked that one that sounded a bit like Nirvana mixed with early Black Eyed Peas. But it's also a million hours long and a lot of it is just really basic. Three stars I guess?
Her voice sounds great on this. There are some good songs. I like the "rock" one and a few others. I thought the "sexy" songs weren't good at all. Also, the album was simply too long.
Actually not bad on second listen
Not my jam, but impressive production and contributors.
u can't tell me there was any reason for this album to be any longer than 50 minutes. just a whole lotta yelling for no reason.
Stripped is a really solid pop album, and Christina Aguilera is felt across it as a strong personality. There are a lot of fun, bouncy, infectious songs here, and some really great performances. There's really enjoyable Latin and Hip-Hop influence, and some good features too. In short, it's a great pop album, but I do have a glaring problem with it. It's really just much too long. 77 minutes is closing in on feature length film territory. I personally struggle a bit with pop ballads, so I'd advocate for cutting a lot of them. But I'm OK is an exception. It's kind of a vital moment here, and carries a lot of real pathos. I'd also single out Keep On Singin' My Song, which closes the album out in a kind of soulful way. That being said, the heart of Stripped is full of great pop songs, and I can float along to this album pretty happily.
I enjoyed this more than I expected, and while I wish she was more involved in writing the lyrics or music, I'm glad she chose to be fairly active in shaping the song choices and directions (despite the liner notes attributing her as co-writer for most tracks, it seems she gave songwriters direction rather than actually penning much of anything). And she is definitely a more interesting singer/performer than some of her fellow Mickey Mouse Club grads like Justin Timberlake or Britney Spears, which is probably why she has two albums in this collection; ironically, I had completely forgotten that I'd heard her other album about 500 albums ago, and had much the same impression then. The album is *way* too long, and there aren't many tracks outside her singles that are all that memorable (and a few that aren't very interesting at all), but the singles are generally pretty entertaining, with decent videos as well ("Fighter" and "Beautiful" in particular). I can see why there was a lot of controversy surrounding "Dirty" and its video, but it feels a lot like the same sort of tension that Miley Cyrus generated when she started to assert her adulthood (musical and otherwise); she probably could have ditched the whole "Xtina" alter-ego thing, though.
It's not bad but it's a singer's album. We all know she's got great pipes but the production only highlights that these aren't her songs and that is where I struggle with vocal pop records. They sound great but what else is there?
moody, at times reminiscent of the darkness of NiN, at others very classical hispanic beats. Some songs with a great bass, others not so much. Not the worst popular music I've heard in a while
Much better than I thought it would be. A few catchy songs to be found here.
Not entirely my thing, but still a neat slice of early 2000s pop. Interesting to learn what album it was that spawned "Beautiful", one of the biggest radio earworms I had to endure entering my early teens in the 2000s. 7.5/10.
It's kind of confused but I like the spirit. The singles and features really stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest, for better or worse. Favourite track: Beautiful
I thought I was going to end up saying 'R&B/pop isn't my sort of music' (if it was someone's I highly doubt that they would be doing this list), but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Infatuation has nice latin beats. The vibe of Underappreciated and the melody for Cruz are also great. Also Quite surprised Get Mine, Get Yours wasn't made into a single, it's got the raunchy lyrics and hook that would get repeated playings on early 00's radio. I'm OK is a surprisingly reflective song about her upbringing My main gripe (other than overhearing Dirrty and Beautiful in my early years) is this album is just SO long, it must be one of the longest on the list.
More balls and grit than Beyoncé and Mariah. Similarly polished, big voiced R&B though.
good! tracklist a bit too long, production felt a little off (but maybe i just need new headphones), 3.5 if i could.
Overall middle because there are some truly iconic songs on this album - Fighter and Can't Hold Us Down being top of my list. But overall, not a big fan of her vocal tone, and some of the songs she sounds especially flat/just don't seem to fit her vocal style.
Right off the bat way too long, as always no album should be more than 40 minutes. More varied than I was expecting. She’d got a nice voice but it’s just not my favorite kind of voice. To me just an average bloated album Also always fun to see a fellow tiger: “During her youth in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, Aguilera attended North Allegheny Intermediate High School before leaving there to be homeschooled to avoid bullying she experienced at school”
Positivt overraska!
Dessverre er 1/3 låtene her sykt booring.
I really thought that I would like this album more because Christina has an incredible voice. But I was just left wanting more. Sure, there were some jams. but I'd rate this a 6.5 or 7 /10. which is still in the 3 range.. I did save Dirrty tho.
Gosh she has an amazing voice. Some great pop tunes on here, many forgettable! Dirrty is a BANGER. Whole album = Solid 3/5
So powerful just not very diverse. Great songs and other songs that sounded similar but weren't as good.
Actually better than I thought. Not my favourite music but it has some pretty awesome songs.
Not my kinda everday listening, but this is a solid pop album. Also the voice of Chrisitina it's very top on all the songs. "Make Over" it's my favourite, it's very close to the rock of late '90 and initial 2000
This sounds good but inauthentic
This is OK. It’s obviously far too long, not really my thing, a bit over-produced and so on. But it’s OK without, for me, being overly memorable.
its aight. grew on me then ungrew on me as the album went on. i respect it for infecting the culture with two or three hits that will get radioplay until long after im dead. favorite song is probably Infatuation
Rating: 6/10 I always appreciate when pop music shows up on the list, but I've never been a big fan of Xtina. But despite the bloat in album length and the weaker production, this is a pretty decent pop album, I definitely wouldn't be surprised if it's the best Christina Aguilera album. Cool that she has writing and production credits throughout the tracks. Maybe a case where the singles are the best songs; Fighter, Beautiful, and Dirrty are all memorable hits from the era, even though she can feel really like a lesser version of better Pop RnB stars at the time. But also the run after Fighter, with Infatuation between the interludes and Loving Me 4 Me was good too. Definitely fun enough to say I enjoyed it.
Not bad, a few (Shaw's) classics sprinkled in, far from the worst that 1001albs has served up so far 5.3/10
I too think ladies should be able to give out blowies without being called a whore. But I don't need an hour eighteen minutes of it. This album is a solid 40 minutes too long. But I'll give Xtina credit for the hits and rate in line with ...Baby One More Time. 2.75/5
Some cracking tunes. Hard to believe it was 20+ years ago
Hmm 2 for Christina 1 for Beyoncé. It's OK but it's way too long. Good singles tedious filler.
Some good songs throughout but also a lot of filler
Its fine. Far too long. She has got a good voice and the singles are bangers but too toooo looong an album.
Like a calm 6
As is the case with many a pop album, there are some highs and some lows on here. Almost all of it is on the upper end of quality for 2000’s pop. “Can’t Hold Us Down” was a great tone-setter that I wish she could’ve maintained for a little longer. “Make Over” was by far the lowlight, which is unfortunate because the instrumental is pretty interesting, lush production and some hooks that are well-written. But that chorus. It hurt. It really hurt. All can be forgiven though, as things slowly picked back up. “Dirrty” was a nice jolt to the system, a song that actually had some real teeth. Some solid female empowerment anthems, songs about intimacy and loves lost. All prevalent y2k themes. Par for the course for this era of pop. A few great jams. 3/5
Es un disco de transición de la juventud a la adultez.
I don’t think I’ve ever listened to this much Christina Aguilera in one go and while I probably never will again, I didn’t hate this
I wouldn't even rate this record if it weren't in the 1001 albums you must hear before you die list. So, getting that out of the way... It's a good pop album that has moments of catchiness and a lot of "girl-power" lyrics. Problem with that is it doesn't resonate with everybody. It's an "artistic statement" that has Christina (Xtina!) coming of age. It's ok, but I won't be revisiting it anytime soon.
I remember when this album came out. I only ever heard the radio/ tv singles so I thought it was going to be much more of an album with dance songs in the vane of “dirty”. I would have preferred that. Instead I found it long and slow between songs that I knew. It was fine.
Too much fluff
pretty pretty good not everyday listening but fir for fire
2.5
Gets a bit long by the end
This is no doubt a well produced and polished album...it sounds very nice. Many of these songs were radio hits in the early 2000s and, in that regard, are familiar. This becomes its undoing to an extent - the music feels tied to that era (dated) and discourages interest in listening now. I applaud CA's strength in sharing and encouraging others through her experiences - there's more legitimacy here than her peers of the time. Doesn't mean I'm going to put this on ever again. 3/5.
Rating: 6.5/10
Not a bad album in my opinion. I would say it’s a bit bloated but her voice carries the music when the instrumentals aren’t as interesting to me. I don’t deny that this album inspired a generation of pop artists. Overall the album was okay.
Dang! Surprised by how much I liked this. The collaborations and hits are solid - lyrically pretty cool as well - not just “im a hot girl with problems and feelings” songs. Album was too long. Soar was a great tune. 2.5 stars and rounding up. 3 stars for sure in this genre.
Dirty Beautiful
Better than expected
Meh. Not horrible. Just not really something I particularly cared for.
not bad, not for me
Crazy lang men generelt solidt album og nogle gode deep cuts. Jeg kan bedre lide denne end Back to Basics
A fun listen, a nice throwback, way too long. But I enjoyed the personal lyrics, the touches of vulnerability, the wide-ranging genre sounds. Not bad at all.
I wasn't expecting anything great when I first saw the average rating on this site. Turns out people just hate pop music. It's actually a good album, with a lot of variety. Probably not something too revolutionary considering it is fairly "recent", but even giving it a 3 seems a bit low. Maybe a 3.5/5.
Vele malen beter dan de vorige (Back to Basics). Nog steeds bloated en inconsistent.
surprisingly fun, but this has no business being 77 mins long
Honestly, much better than I was dreading/expecting. I SOOO much hated the onslaught of young pop divas that happened in the 90's. Thin little keyboard music and a young girl showing off her range and trills, etc. I was surprised that there is actually a range of styles on here. While some folks apparently don't like a singer playing in a different wheelhouse, I love range/variety! Now while nothing here is going into rotation for me, I can at least appreciate why people would like it. It could stand with a bit more editing. 1 hr 17 minutes is crazy! She definitely has a strong voice and I appreciate the restraint in not constantly hitting high notes, trilling, and melisma that was ubiquitous in this decade. So, having said it's better than I thought it would be, I can't really give it more than a 3 because really, where's the music? It's only here as a backdrop for her voice. And that's fine. But it doesn't bear repeated listening. I'll be kind and give this a 3.
Christina Aguilera has an incredible voice. She can belt, she can riff, she can do those acrobatic vocal runs. If this album is primarily a showcase for her singing, it’s very effective. But I found most of this corny, at least from a modern perspective. It feels dated and very much a product of its time. Of course, this is going to hit very different for someone who has more of a nostalgic connection to it. Gorgeous production throughout. This is a classy pop album with a lot of live instrumentation. And “Beautiful” is a great song. Okay, “Dirrty” just came on and the nostalgia officially hit. This song is such a banger. I was watching TRL when this song was big, so I’m hardwired to be unable to resist it.
Not my cup of tea, but enjoyable.
A 78 minute album called Stripped is ironic. That being said, there's no denying that there are some bangers on this album. She can really belt it out, but I prefer a 'less is more' approach to that kind of singing.
--love the intro --part was recorded at electric lady -- Genre - "Stripped is a pop and R&B[11][12] record which incorporates elements of many different genres, including soul, hip hop, heavy metal, rock, rock and roll, gospel, and Latin" -- cant hold us down is a bop -- nominated for pop vocal album grammy -- 'beautiful' - won song of the year + best female pop vocal performamce
pretty bloated at an hour and 17 minutes, but there are some historical bangers no doubt. i remain team britney though.
Can’t deny her great voice. But I don’t care for this album.
god bless puerto rico Would I listen again: not really Deserves to be on this list: perhaps 3.4
so don't you bring me down
This is such a 2000s sound and it takes me right back to 2003 and middle school where these songs were EVERYWHERE. Good thing I can mostly look back on those troubled times these days and just feel a general ephemeral nostalgic vibe with few concrete memories.
Strong vocally although the themes of the album don’t resonate with me. It’s a bit bloated. Fighter is a banger. Beautiful, although thematically similar to some other tracks feels out of place tonally.
It’s a solid pop album. The song Beautiful, and its video, elevate this album for me. Is it a mushy song? Maybe…..but her vocals are incredible. Rumor is the final version included on the album was actually her first attempt at the song. Say what you will about this era of pop, but Xtina is an incredible singer and her vocals set her apart from those with no substance.
Throwback 2000-luvun MTV pop musaa. Ihan ok sillein, ei mikään erikoinen. Tunnetut hitit parhaita. Parhaat: Can't Hold Us Down, Dirrty
This has many elements I usually don’t enjoy but for whatever reason they didn’t bother me here. It feels like guilty pleasure music. I thought the back half was stronger than the front half which helped me digest the long runtime. Rating: 3.0
THIS is y2k. 3.5.
Familiar but i can't remember anything about it...
Ok, she has a great voice, but I cannot stand most of these songs. I don't like the whisper singing, or the crying singing. And some of it is just too over the top. Sorry.
A bit too long but enjoyed the listen.
Ma'am. Respectfully.
Enjoyed this more than I thought going into it…
She has a tremendous voice, but I just don’t really love this style of music. I also get tired of the enslutification of former child stars. I think it’s bad for young girls.
Solid album, toss up between a 3 and a 4. Rounding down because it's not really my style. Pop with some decent soul into it. Beautiful is a pretty iconic song and quite indicative of the whole album. Some nice R&B hits as well.
3.5
It's a solid pop album, but therefore is not really special to me.
I mean, it's pop I guess. Most pop albums will probably get a 2 or 3 as it's just good playlist-filler.
a few bangers but not quite my vibe
Enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, but still not quite my cup of tea
3/5
Not my favorite genre but enjoyable
An hour and seventeen minutes? Come on Xtina! That's too long for a pop album. Yes, life is hard for you ladies. Lil' Kim cannot sing. Dick jokes! Leave the in song jokes to Eminem. She is upset about something. This is like a Taylor Swift album...beautiful blonde woman complains about ex for an entire album. And I like them about the same. Come on with the Spanish and the Interludes...you're from Western Pennsylvania. She has a nice voice, but she's no Mariah. Infatuation is the best song so far. And another interlude. I hate numbers and letter replacing words in titles, but Loving Me 4 Me is good. The talking was lifted right off Jill Scott though. Let's have an uncredited Alicia Keys cameo! I can't tell if I like this album or her need to be a popular teenage girl is so annoying I don't. Fighter, Beautiful and Dirrty were the singles. Dirrty wins. The theme of Xtina's empowerment runs through the album, but the songs still manage to feel disjointed. It's like she said she wanted one song from every genre about strong women. Redman will guest on literally anyone's album. The video for Dirrty is probably worth half a star. I always liked Redman, he's a highlight. Good song. And a stupid blank 45 seconds on the last song and then some stupid joking around with an offensive accent. CDs were terrible and glad I am that their reign was short lived.
An hour seemed like too long for this album. I think about 8 songs could have been cut out, and it would have been that much better. That being said, not really my kind of music, but some big hits on this one. I will go with a 2.5 - round up.
I recognize this music! From the radio! I don’t doubt her talent! Might not choose to put this on again
fine
Someone said "I'm too old to pretend I give a shit about pop music." I have this same feeling. Anyway, giving it a 3 for her vocals, she definitely has a great voice ;-) But all wrapped up, this ain't my genre :-(
It's a little boring and lame but it's really not bad. I could see how popheads would like this. It's honestly perfectly fine for its genre.
Quite enjoyed this, she has a really powerful voice and it brings a lot to the music. The tracks have a variety between ballads and up-beat club R&B which is fun. The lyrics have a ballsy attitude which is cool, and I enjoyed the latin influence on some songs. My main criticism is it's too long, and I don't think the album is strong enough to sustain 77 minutes of content. She does have a lot to say, but not that much - you're a strong and independent woman, that's super and I'm happy for you, but we don't need 20 tracks to get the idea. I was pretty bored in the last 3 tracks
Way better than back to basics, it stays in its slutty lane, still way tooo long. This one could have been two albums or severely edited. Still it had some interesting poppy variety. 2.5
It's fine, doesn't really have one style, 20 tracks is criminal
It's okay - I guess I had shuffle and repeat album on, so I'm not sure how long I listened.
Girl power ig? Cover is something else
Its alright just went on a bit too long. Still wondering what's going on with the album cover
Good start, meh middle, ok end
Better than I was expecting, I liked some songs I'd never heard of more than her hits from my younger years. Stripped (intro) ★★☆☆☆ Can’t Hold Us Down ★★★☆☆ Walk Away ★★★★☆ Fighter ★★★★☆ Primer Amor (interlude) ★★☆☆☆ Infatuation ★★★★☆ Loves Embrace (interlude) ★★☆☆☆ Loving Me 4 Me ★★★☆☆ Impossible ★★★★☆ Underappreciated ★★★☆☆ Beautiful ★★★★☆ Make Over ★★★★☆ Cruz ★★★☆☆ Soar ★★★☆☆ Get Mine, Get Yours ★★★☆☆ Dirrty ★★★☆☆ Stripped, Part 2 ★★☆☆☆ The Voice Within ★★★★☆ I’m OK ★★★★☆ Keep On Singin’ My Song ★★★☆☆ Average Album Rating: 3.2/5.0 ★★★☆☆
I like her voice without the overly churched affectations. I prefer the jazz club portions of her music. She doesn't offend me in the way that many of her ilk did. I will never listen to this again but it didn't hurt my feelings excepting one regard...it was over an hour. That's a lot.
A lot of variety here that was well done. It just got a little too long
cracking uptempo tracks, but too much balladeering brings it down. 3
Another near 4… a bit cluttered but I think the highs are high. I am beautiful no matter what they say…..
so what this guy just loves Christina Aguilera? in all honesty i am wondering why he doesn't just go and marry her...
Okay I get why my dad was listening to this when I was younger.
It was such a big album at the time, so I guess deserves it spot on that basis. Interesting to listen to it a couple of times.
Not great
The focus of much of this, calling out a self-serving and hypocritical media, misogynist double standards, and standing up for a woman's right to give blow jobs without being called a slut, is commendable. But intent is one thing and execution another. I gave 'Back to Basics' a bad time but that was karma, as it gave me a bad time. So let me first say here 'Fighter' is a bona fide banger, with an earworm chorus. 'Dirrty' is not far behind, albeit overshadowed by its ladywank video. They aren't groundbreaking, tapping into 'Survivor' and other Destiny's Child rnb/rock crossovers, but they are undeniably pumping. The other thing she does quite well are the heartfelt ballads. 'Impossible' has all the hallmarks of Alicia Keys who wrote it - classic soul (albeit highly derivative). Then there's the genuinely uplifting 'Beautiful' which delivers the album's intended message with great skill (courtesy of Linda Perry). A nice thread of songcraft runs through it thanks to Keys and Perry, credit is given for Christina co-writing these songs, noting the lyrics are earnest, if often unimaginative. All tolled, and maybe the surprise factor of this being decent, it opens the door for a low three.
Very good album all the way around. Enjoyed listening to it.
Good album
3.25
It's biggest problem is that it is just too long and it doesn't justify it. I've also always struggled with the maximalist style of singing Christina favours but that's a me issue. I was surprised at how much I liked Make Over, that's been added to rotation. I had to skip Beautiful because it was so incredibly overplayed that every drop of potential enjoyment I may have derived from it has long been squeezed out.
First off, the obvious: this didn't need to be 77 minutes long and there's a decent amount of fat to trim. But honestly, I still really enjoyed my time with this album - it's surprisingly soulful for the most part, but with the odd full pop banger in there. I will never like Beautiful though
Songs for every part of the relationship. I actually enjoyed this album more than I expected, but I think it has more to do with how pop music doesn't really sound like this anymore. I did feel some nostalgia for the 2000's though, so I guess it means I'm that old now.
Surprisingly varied and fun, but too long. Cut the weakest third and you'd have a real solid album.
I started a review, scrapped it and started over. I grew up in this era I didn't listen to this album. This album was out at the heigh of the 2000's/90's girl vs girl drama the media pushed (Christina vs. Brittney, Monica vs. Brandy, Mariah vs. JLo). This specific rivalry Christina was the 'dirty' one pushing the envelope on the idea of female sexuality, fighting the double standard and embracing a more free lifestyle. I love that idea and applaud the ladies that pushed that envelope and dealt with the pushback. But this album focuses too much on pushing the boundaries, buying into the person the media made her and not focusing on what she was really good at, singing (and not always crazy vibrato way). There are a few highlights that show her talent, The Voice Within, Keep on Singin, even Dirrty. But then there was Walk Away, Make Over, Loving me 4 me, they are trying so hard to play into the sexual side that they become cheesy and way over the top. It was like she was trying to hide her voice, and use all these other tricks to get people to like the songs, when she didn't need to! I know it says she was heavily involved in the writing and this was her premiere album, but it doesn't hold up (I have no loyalty to her or Ms. Spears). This album is too much, too over the top, making it overall of a bad example of early 2000's pop music. I will still dance and sing along at the top of my longs to Dirrty and Fighter, but overall this album does Ms. Aguilera Dirrty and doesn't spend enough time letting her show off her strongest asset, her voice.
Stripped sounds so of its time that it hurts. I never question Christina’s ability to sing, but I do question why everything has to be over sung, Mariah Carey style. The vocal gymnastics approach is detrimental to what they’re doing. Give me Whitney ANY day. She makes you feel every note naturally…never forced. Fighter is a good song. Beautiful is a shit song. Others are good, some are too much. The empowerment theme is not the problem here. It’s not a bad album at all if 20 to 30 minutes of it were trimmed away and she wasn’t trying so hard to outplay every other singer in the world.
Much better than expected. Some nice latin vibes in it too. I'd revisit it but its quite long 3.5
strip clubs have never been the same since this came out. really changed the lapdance game.
Decent record better than I expected
Got few good hit. She got the voice. But overall it’s not that strong of an album in my opinion, targeted mostly on radio success with few good moments and stucked in that time frame
This was too long. A lot of effort went in to the production and selection of songs with mixed results. CA had a strong voice, although it didn't feel stretched and kept on the same side. No song had a spine tingling moment. No doubt the voice could deliver this. There was certainly scope for this in a album, especially over an hour in length. In small chunks, singles, this is more than fine.
Thoughts in order: Wow, so there are at least two Christina Aguilera albums on the list; that’s interesting. I bet Christina Aguilera was so angry through the whole of the late 90s and early 2000s, what with everyone pretending she and Britney were the same. Not being mean, I’ve loved Britney since day one, but you know what I mean. What if she’d never been marketed as a cute teen singer, but instead was an uber-talented r&b/soul singer? Singing all the sexy jams? Oh, I see her jeans on the cover look more risqué than I ever realized. You’ll always have a place in my heart, X-tina. Love you grrrl.
This is a solid pop album, that being said I am not the biggest fan of pop so I didn’t find this album super interesting. Her vocals are great but some aspects of the album just give generic pop vibes which is fine, I think it sounds good but I feel like some parts of the album or missing the sauce and get a little stale. Definitely some good grooves and great moments, but Im not sure this is an album I will revisit often. I think 1hr 15mins is a little long and could have been cut down a bit. I feel like I am writing a negative review but I actually enjoyed this album more than I expected. The r&b elements are really enjoyable and well done. Her girl boss attitude is great too and exudes confidence. Latin influence is a great touch when leaned into
long album, had some bangers though, good shit
After the last Christina album that was over an hour I was nervous about this one. However, I didn't realize how many hits she had from this album! As long as it is I found myself not getting bored of it. However, not all of it is gold and I think if you get rid of the interludes and a song or two and its easily a 4/5. As it stands its an enjoyable 3/5.
It was cool. I liked the features. Also got tired of it. Need to put more into my reviews
I haven’t finished the album, I have like 4 tracks left that I’m listening to right now, but I feel comfortable giving my review. It’s ok. It’s a perfectly fine album sonically, no songs that I was like ugh turn this garbage off, but it was a real slog to get through. 20 tracks Christina?? It just got boring. Nothing was bad but nothing was an absolute banger. Infatuation was good, Beautiful is obviously a classic, but this felt more like a chore than an exciting new listen. It’s just fine, so it gets a 3.
This isn't really my genre so I am gonna try my best. Walk Away was pretty good Fighter is kinda cringy. This song definitely didn't age well. Had to skip. Beautiful is a timeless song. I learned that it was written by Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes - shoutout them. This album surprised me. I went into it thinking I wouldn't like it at all. Lesson learned. "Don't judge a book by its cover!" 3/5
Some solid tracks on here but a little long. I do appreciate the variety though in terms of pop
Good not great. Was expecting this to be a lot better tbh. I don’t necessarily see the place for this within the most influential albums of all time. There’s plenty of equivelent pop from this era imo— Brittany, Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, etc, I’d say nearly every Gaga album is better than this (I know later 2000s but still). Even many pop albums from the past 5 years that I liked a lot more than this. All that said I still enjoyed the album as there are 4-5 huge hits on this puppy. 2.9/5
Favorite Track: Fighter
I expected this album to be full bubblegum pop and was surprised at its maturity and RnB feel. A few catchy songs, a few less so. Definitely a bit longer than it needed to be.
I honestly enjoyed this quite a bit more than I thought I would.
Até tem umas muito boas aqui e ali, mas, por Deus, qual a necessidade de fazer um álbum tão longo?
I had another one of her records recently. This one was on the 1001 briefly, but then doesn't appear in more recent editions... which kind of makes sense, this record isn't all that special. That said, I'll repeat my previous comment. She's got amazing pipes. Great control, range, strength... you name it. I was surprised. She's not just the typical pop star, overproduced to make up for lack of talent... she's got real talent, for sure.
This was okay, but too long. Aguilera has such a strong voice, which I like in small doses, but listening to it for an hour plus starts to feel like you're being yelled at. Also the song "You Are Beautiful" was so overplayed in my childhood that I'd be more than happy to never hear it again
What a time capsule. I forgot this album has so many bangers on it. It’s unfortunately plagued with the trend at the time of filling every spare second of a CD, and it really drags this one down. Christina was always my favourite of the pop girlies of the era so it’s a shame this is her only album on the list, but yeah you can’t deny she’s got a cracking voice and this album has a ton of range.
Album art is insane. “It has a bush? What the hell”. Oh wait, that’s just a perfectly normal pair of pants you tie at the crotch. Just an unapologetic piece of Staten Island trash. Good for her! Anyway, incredible vocal range. Probably amongst the singers with the most range ever? Obviously can hit all the high notes but I kinda like when she goes down a little lower and her voice hums like a fucking corvette engine. I feel like she was often grouped with and compared to Britney Spears which is so dumb and hilarious. Walk Away is a cool song. Beautiful is played out but a nice song. Dirty is a bop. A couple other solid ones. Probably too much content on the album at 77 minutes. I think it’s a solid 3 stars.
Always thought Christina had the best voice compared to her contemporaries (Britney, Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore, etc), and here she’s got some good songs to show off the pipes. Early 2000s pop is cool because R&B was the dominant influence, so even if a little dated it’s pretty easy to listen to and the songs are more clever and intricately arranged than subsequent eras. “Impossible” is a perfect example of the R&B influence, and I also liked “Infatuation” with the Spanish guitar. A lot of it sounds like early 2000s Michael Jackson, particularly the similarities between “Keep Singin’ my Song” and “Stranger in Moscow”…..“Make Over” was the only song that didn’t work for me, and it’s a little long (78 minutes got you your moneys worth at Borders back in the day!), otherwise I enjoyed it and would say 3.5 stars
Not a bad album, just a bit slow for my taste
'Stripped' is essentially Christina Aguilera shedding the squeaky-clean Mickey Mouse Club image for something more provocative and deep. This album was everywhere in 2002 when it came out, because the media was all like "damn, Christina's not a teen pop star any more". Mind you, they were saying the same about Britney Spears, but because Aguilera was less of a magnet for paparazzi, her music was able to stand spearately from her public image. So what does 'Stripped' offer. Well, three pretty iconic singles in 'Dirrty', 'Beautiful' and 'Fighter', all three of which champion female empowerment and owning your identity. It's fair to say Christina transitioned from teen pop sensation to mature female artist a lot more smoothly than Britney did. She was not without her own controversies however. Critics originally blasted her black-haired, tatted up 'Xtina' profile as being too "try-hard" and attention seeking, but rather than combat the haters, she essentially let the music talking. One thing admirable about Stripped is Christina, for the first time in her career at this point, had extensive creative control over her music, and it shows in how much soul and genuine honesty is present on this album. I've always appreciated the depth and power in Christina's voice, and she sings her heart out on this album. Probably her best vocal performance on this album is 'Impossible'. She absolutely belts her lungs out on this song, and its quite the stinging ballad, although Alicia Keys did write it, and I can't help but wonder what her version sounds like. I can't help but criticise the length of this album though. It's nearly 80 MINUTES LONG. Did 'Stripped' really need to be so long when only the hits and maybe a handful of deep cuts stand out? There's no real concept here except Christina basically saying she's no teen pop star anymore, take her seriously. With that said, I see why this album is iconic. I think of so many female pop stars who have followed: Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, and even popular music's God/punching bag Taylor Swift (depending on who you ask): Christina Aguilera's 'Stripped' is quite possibly the career transition they all took inspiration from in trying to "adult" their image for their maturing audiences. Also, unlike Britney, Christina didn't face the same highly publicised fall from grace, so was a safer bet for upcoming artists to look up to. But what do I think of it? 'Stripped' is an overlong 2000s pop record with some admittedly iconic and important songs, but would've achieved the same result if half an hour's worth of music wad 'stripped' from it. Best songs: Fighter, Impossible, Beautiful
Not really my jam, but game respect game. Solid album
This was surprisingly pretty fun. After the first track, an hour twenty more of run time felt exhausting but I actually didn't mind it. Not one I'd listen to again but still solid.
Typical early 2000's hip-hop music. Some of it I enjoyed but most of the songs in the album tended to sound the same with little variance in tone
Fine. Just fine. Enjoyed that there were some surprising tracks. While much the of album had a Whitney Houston vibe at times, there were a few curveballs like "Make Over" that was almost reminiscent of No Doubt or Hole and "I'm Ok" which had a country ballad kind of feel.
Nearly 80 minutes is a lot of Xtina, but this is a solid pop album to be fair.
Good pop album on first listen! A bit surprised to be honest because this music doesn't really strike me all that often. More R&B I found too, good work music.
Eh, it’s just not really my jam, but she got me to move around. The vocal gymnastics feel a bit unnecessary at times, but if you want to get your hips moving you could do worse.
This is probably the most early 2000s album I've ever heard, but girl can sang. Plus, Beautiful is a legitimately great song. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.
I was too young when this came out so I only knew the tracks that made it on the radio. I know the media was particularly harsh on female celebrities at this time and so I appreciate that Xtina was trying to stand up for herself and redefine herself with this album. Personally, I don’t love the R&B influence and lyrically I felt some of the songs weren’t at strong as Xtina was aiming for. I think for me this album is a 3/5
Better than I was expecting, she’s got an amazing voice. Just not really what I was in the mood for today though. Favorites: Beautiful, Dirrty, I’m OK
This is such a fine product. Music production is top notch and Ms Christina has great voice. You have few certified bangers. She is good enough that you could almost miss soulless, meticulous crafting of this album. I think that to my suprise insecure and hurt girl is probably closest to real image of the artist.
Zaskakująco przyjemne przesłuchanko. Album jest ambitny, szczery i potężnie zaśpiewany, ale zbyt często gubi się między autoterapią a autoparodią. Słabe 3
Girl’s got pipes, and I guess if you stick at it for 20 tracks something is going to stick. But actually quite a lot sticks here, yeah it’s pop, but theres a fair variety of styles and I liked a few of the tunes, with no real duffers. Fair play, I preferred listening to this compared to Courtney Love’s dreadful howlings the other day, and I’m a grunge fan.
This was ok, though very long. Maybe not something I'll put on myself, but decent enough to listen to for the most part. I like Aguilera's voice and some of the more jazzy arrangements I liked. 2.75/5
OK album. Not really my thing and too long though. Hated it less than I expected. 2.5/5
She has an amazing voice, one of the best with range and style, but just doesn't do it for me.
