It was a good album, I knew Beautiful but can’t say I knew any other songs. Some were very catchy but not incredible. It was a pretty easy listen all the way through, but wanted alittle more passion in some of the songs. Although I did love a couple of the songs, just not as much as to save them to my liked songs. Good early 2000s album, listened on a run and appreciated the energy but could have used a bit more to push myself 🤣

There's plenty to like here but there's also kinda too much in terms of both length and the fact that the vocals are at 100% almost the entire time- I'm tired! 3*

Absurdly long for what this is. Could have been cut in half. Stylistically I can see some influence. You can draw a short straight line from Walk Away to Ari’s Dangerous Woman. Beautiful is a classic and probably the reason this is on the list. Light 3.

At an hour and a quarter this is too long, and I don't think it's quite as strong as Back To Basics, but again, I enjoyed this more than I expected. A pretty high three. Pretty shameless Sugababes ripoff though!

Yet another amazing voice. Strongly upbeat and positive anthemic pop. Very well built music.

"Stripped" is the fourth studio album by American singer Christina Aguilera. Pop and R&B are the Wiki-listed genres...yes, although (see next sentence). Aguilera looked to transition from the teen pop styles of her debut album, established alter ego Xtina and incorporated soul, rock, hip hop and Latin music into her pop & R&B styles. The album has themes of self-respect, love, sex and feminism. Aguilera employed a wide range of songwriters, producers and collaborators including Alicia Keys, Scott Storch and Linda Perry. The album had mixed reviews and, commercially, did very well reaching #2 in both the US and UK. Laser and synth sounds open the album in "Stripped Intro." Aguilera takes a shot at Fred Durst (and why wouldn't you). This leads to "Can't Hold Us Down." A groovy guitar and hip hop beat. Both Aguilera and Lil' Kim rapping. Girls just can't do the same things as guys. Yes, she's looking at you, Durst and Eminem. The third single "Fighter" is hard with heavy metal/hard rock guitars. Her vocals match...very Pink like. And very much overproduced. This song doesn't work for me. A song that does work is "Beautiful." Melancholy piano and strings. A ballad with drums. Both an emotional delivery and soaring vocals in a song about self respect. Gospel-like backing vocals. The first-released single was "Dirrty," featuring Redman. Lots of commotion with a buzzing synth. Redman rapping. Layered Aguilera vocals in a grinding pop song about (do I really need to tell you?). The last and fifth single was "The Voice Within." A piano ballad which picks up. More strings in a song about empowering oneself. One thing Christina Aguilera can do is sing. Incredibly strong and powerful vocals. Her vocals more than adequately cover the variety of styles on this album. The thing is that some of these songs work and some don't. The ballads, R&B, hip hop and especially the Latin songs all work. The Latin song "Infatuation" may be my favorite on the album. On the flip side, the rock songs do nothing for me. And, they're way too overproduced. Since it is 2002 and the CD era, this album at 77 minutes is also way too long. Not that it mattered too much given it's commercial success. Overall, there are some really good pop/R&B songs which makes this worth a listen for those and, maybe, skip over the rest.

Some good songs but mostly feels like fillers

The hits here are pretty good, the rest is just ok.

CA has such control over her voice it is awesome. And you can hear the mix of so many genres behind that voice. I have mad respect for her. And way to prove the haters wrong and stand up to your bullies while being vulnerable!

Solid 2000s pop

Overraskende bra

Did not hate it as much as I thought I would. She showed her vocal range and took advantage of of Latin music getting big but just didn’t impress that much

Quite impressed for a pop album, the theming and the tracks is put together particularly well, and I can't say I disliked listening at any point really. Uses R&B influence well and is a pleasant enough listen. It's fine.

Not my thing but not terrible.

This album caught me off guard! A great collection of early 2000’s pop bangers. Guest features by Lil Kim and Redman keep the track list from getting stale.

Can't lie, when I was a teenage boy, I liked Christina more than Britney, for many reasons. Christina has a very soulful, moving voice, and this record puts that on display. She sounds much more mature with this release than when she first broke into the scene only a few years before this. This feels like she was confident in herself and what she was doing and had done. The production complements her so well and is artfully performed. Didn't have much expectation for this record, but it was a very nice surprise.

Christina Aguilera is an undeniably exceptional vocalist, but I don't think I'm the target audience for the stuff on this album. That doesn't diminish the quality of her work; it only talks about my enjoyment of it. Regardless of the target audience, I think this album was probably about 7 songs too long. ⭐⭐⭐

I was unaware that Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake had parallel lives for a while. She put out a way better album than him in 2002. I enjoyed it but I won't ever listen to it again.

I got bored after listening to the first 7 songs. After those, I decided to just listen to the remaining famous songs ("Beautiful" and "Dirrty"). It really gave the vibe of the early 2000's, but there was no nostalgia for me here, so I just got bored. There were also parts that just did not agree with my ears (e.g., Lil Kim's part in "Can't Hold Us Down" and a lot of "Dirrty"). Other than that, it was a decent pop album. The best songs that I listened to were "Walk Away" and "Beautiful". 3/5

It's fine, the best of her tracks are on it. It's just fine.

Christina has a great voice, but this is not doing anything for me. The production is so slick it feels like karaoke reproductions. “Primer amor interlude” is my favorite so far. “Infatuation” is really good. I like this track a lot. The next interlude is fantastic. I wonder if those were ideas” that morphed into the song after them? Or written for the purpose of introducing the next song. So I’m realizing I prefer when music was made when vinyl was the dominant format as they were shorter and had a point. I don’t know if I’m even at the halfway point but there is a lot left. “Under appreciated” has a great groove. This album get better the deeper in you get. I was not impressed with the beginning stuff, but I think those were the radio things. “Beautiful” is a good song. This album should have been two separate albums. There great stuff on here. Enough that I want to listen to other albums now. I remember “Dirrty” being a big deal at the time. It’s ok. I want to hear more like “keep on singin’ my song”. She has a great voice. I wonder what she would sound like if she did the Stax catalog or some Aretha Franklin covers.

Some good songs but mostly filler and the album is far too long that I found myself getting a bit bored by the end.

I enjoyed it more now than when it first came out.

Not as bad as expected and I actually enjoyed quite a bit of this. I like her attempts at some variation of the sounds and there are some pretty good songs on here such as "Fighter" and "Beautiful." Still, way too long and I didn't care for the musical "interludes" (must have been an early 00's pop thing). No denying her voice and I like that many of the songs are about female empowerment

If I could capture the early 2000s in a bottle, this is what it would sound like. Christina has an amazing voice and it really shines on the slower tracks on this album. I didn't really enjoy the faster tracks. 3.5/5

Un viaje directo a los 2000s. Me gustó y no sé si es ese viaje al pasado donde -aún no gobernaba la derecha- aún éramos felices o gustito a juventud pero me gustó bastante. Tiene un par de joyitas de época.

No one: Christina Aguilera: Woooooaaaaaaaiooooaaasaa Yeeeseeaaaaaaaeeeeeaaaaahhhh!

Really not what I am into. A LOT of production went into this to be so bland.

It's good for what it is. But on the whole the waste of a magnificently expressive voice. If she did a Seal-kind pivot to soul standards (she may have done this already, I have no idea) it’ll be a killer.

3 Sterne auf jeden Dall

POPGIRLIESSSS YES! FAVO: Can't Hold us down, Fighter, Beautiful, Dirrty

2.5, nostalgic but way too long

Solid work, quite varied

Xtina has an absolutely incredible voice and I was pleasantly surprised to see early 2000's pop on this generator when it's so Brit pop heavy. I'm far more of a Britney girl than I ever was a Christina girl, but I still liked this album. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it, but it was fun for what it is.

Its a good album. Amazing voice and control. Maybe too long because songs were similar. Sinply not my favorite genere but overall enjoyable and better than most pop records. She is much better than her competition.

Pleasantly surprised with the range that this album had, covering multiple genres encompassing pop, rock, soul, hip-hop, and R&B, never sticking to any one specific sound. By doing this, the album becomes more rounded and considerably more mature than a lot of generic pop that they were shoveling into our ears in the early 2000s.

This was fine to listen to. It was way better than the disgustingly sweet Britney album I had a while back.

ok but why does make over sound like it could be from the twewy ost

Familiar with a few of her songs, very nostalgic but not necessarily my thing really.

R&B is not my thing, so the slower cuts were bland for me, and I felt this album was a bit too long and could have had a track or two cut. That said, there were some songs I loved: "Dirrty" and "Fighter," classics, of course, and while now sounding a bit dated, "Underappreciated," "Beautiful," and "Soar" were enjoyable, too. Giving this album a strong 3, as it definitely has more to return to than some of my other 3s, but it just doesn't make the cut for a 4 compared to other 4s I've rated so far.

Her vocal range makes me think a little of Amy Winehouse. But I can’t quite put my finger on why it doesn’t have the same power to me. Is it song selection? The Mickey Mouse Club influence? Or is it that the album is not stripped of pop music platitudes as the album title implies? I respect her work, but there is absolutely no chance I would be interested in listening to this again.

Good singer, but the music seems formulaic.

This is just not my cup of tea. I can her that she can sing properly, it just doesn't interest me.

Okay. Most songs aren't memorable.

Aguilera has an incredible voice, that's never been in question. This is a blatantly rebellious album that incorporates R&B, hip-hop, and completely shreds the teen pop image she had prior to this. I am clearly not the target audience, but I can appreciate it for what it is.

J - 3/5 Best Track - "Dirrty" F - 5/5

Example of sing vs saaaang in every song. It’s a lot and starts to sound like a parody.

Some real bangers in this one!

3 estrelas, meio chatinho.

Incredible voice but found the album to be too scattered stylistically to be coherent. The singles still sound awesome.

tar les anciens, l'album es aussi vieu que moi

This album has some absolute bangers and a good variety of songs. However, I'm not sure it needs to be this long. As a side note, the music video for "Dirty" is still a classic.

2.5 stars There is good pop on here. There is forgettable stuff on here. It is much too long. Maybe a solid 40 minute record in here. But too much to sift through to differentiate.

I find it interesting that Aguilera took creative control over Stripped, both musically and lyrically... ...and the most well-known song on it ("Beautiful") is written by someone else. Aguilera is definitely a better performer and singer than others of her genre (Britney Spears). I found some of the songs felt sterile. She says she does not use autotune, but her harmonizing with herself sounded a little... artificial to me. And 77 minutes? Yikes. Top tracks: "Fighter," "Dirrty," "Impossible"

This was her "dirrty" phase. I still remember SNL mocking this when they had Xtina (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) saying the video wasn't "dirrrty enough" and a production assistant shouted "Can we get more urine in the fog machine, please?" re: the album - I'm not a pop fan, although there have been albums I've appreciated on the 1001. This isn't bad per se - she has a powerful voice, with a lot of impressive control jumping across notes (although I'd prefer a little less "ooh-ooOOh aaaAAAhh") - but the album is stylistically all over the place and way too long. Again, I can't say I disliked it, but I can't say I'd seek it out again either. Tracks I liked: Fighter, Infatuation, Beautiful, Get Mine, Get Yours.

3 stars I assumed this album would get 1 star. This is not my type of music but I was pleasantly surprised. There are some really good songs on this album. I will definitely listen to it again.

For the most part this is just really solid well produced pop, but this album's length I think it definitely its biggest weakness. I can't point to any particular song or moment that's actually bad, I think they are all at least solid. But going on for as long as it does and never really going through any major sound changes does hold it back quite a bit.

I was finding this boring at first but it picked up around "underappreciated" and was entertaining from there for a bit before petering off again. Great soulful voice but it was too long, some of the filler songs should have been stripped imo. 5/10

This is too long but it's an alright pop album. I can see the expressionism being a big selling point and the rebranding of her career but anything in this vein always feels half manufactured vs purely artistic.

Pretty good example of a pop album of the early 2000s. Probably one of the better ones. Too long, and a few tracks that feel out of place and could be dropped. Get this down below 40 minutes. Not for me, but belongs on the list.

Um fine whatever

first listen great singer okay music

This album had some strong singles, which carry the rest of the album. The dexterity of Christina's voice is impressive, but she keeps it turned up to 11 so much that it comes off as shouty. I think that is the reason I've never listened to her much, but I will probably add a few of these tunes to my master playlist. 3.5* Standout track: Make Over

This is a highly skilled singer with a great voice, but the musical styling is not at all to my taste.

need half stars! there are some major hits for me on here that were super transformative

# 491 : Stripped : 29/05/2025 They've done a pretty decent job, it’s a good album, it’s enjoyable and fun overall. Some good hits and bangers, but drags out a bit. It's ok, but not 5 star material. I liked Fighter and Beautiful

Extra star for the Latin influence, her vocals, and the nostalgia.

Like it. Favourite song is Beautiful 3/5

- Have to highlight the diversity of styles put on display here. Somewhat works against the record as a whole, but the eclectic mix is fun. - Some stellar tracks on here, namely "Impossible," "Beautiful," "Cruz," and even "Dirrty." - Thought I preferred more somber Christina, but did not care for "I'm OK." - Why is this so long? Some of these tracks are over 6 minutes.

Not my usual thing, but there is serious talent here. There is a great blend of genres, hip hop mixed with Spanish guitar etc. Some good guest vocal work from Lil Kim. The singles are bangers with 'Fighter' and 'Beautiful' leading the charge. The album works as a great concept album of feminist anthems. Impressive

Damn, this woman's voice is incredible. The music beneath is is pure 90's pop garbage tho. Stripped occupies a unique time in America that includes The Simple Life, Von Dutch trucker hats, The Roxbury, Girls Gone Wild, KFed and Brittany Spears' bald head ... and more things I'd rather forget. But Beautiful... well, that is somewhat redeeming.

Xtina got “Dirrty” on “Stripped.” But the impression that I got from that song and music video (and the dyed hair and tattoos and chaps) did not really prepare me for this album. Much more of the album is slow R&B than dirty club bangers. It would have been more interesting if the over-the-top sound had been what was stripped - simpler production, piano, acoustic - it would be interesting to hear Christina more in that setting. Christina Aguilera has been stripped from the 1001. But as with “Back to Basics,” she clearly has one of the most remarkable voices in pop music history.

Despite Christina's great voice, this album feels very sophomoric. Infatuation seems way out of place on an album that is generally trying to declare she is a strong, independent woman...except when she can't help herself? Beautiful is in fact beautiful, but the rest of the slow jamz are snooze fests.

Remembering the bubblegum pop start to Christina’s career and seeing that this album is 78 minutes, I did not have high hopes. I was surprised, not blown away, but pleasantly surprised. Christina has a hell of a voice. The music mostly takes a back seat and that kept me focused on her voice which I can apparently listen to for 78 minutes and continue enjoying. Beautiful is a great song with an important message. It reminds me of Dolly Parton, not musically but rather for its supportive wholesomeness. Ironically wholesomeness is a trait Christina was trying to get away from with Stripped. I think she successfully stripped away the facade and showed more of her true artistic self. And that’s always a good thing.

I grew up in the 2000's so I have a love for the pop from that decade and this album captures both the highs and lows from that era. For the highs the hooks and melodies are catchy and blending of genres makes for great features from Lil' Kim and Redman. For the lows this album is bloated and over-produced in parts. Overall it was a fun listening experience.

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would

I don’t really know anything from this album except, of course, Beautiful. I’ll admit that this isn’t what I usually listen to, but it’s pretty good. I like the coherence of the album, love the interludes, especially Primer Amor Interlude, and the jazzy sound that comes through in a lot of the tracks. Will I listen to it again? Probably not, and that’s why I’m giving it a 3.

Stripped is a pretty alright album. The last Christina Aguilera album i looked at is quite different from this one as while the former has two different styles for two sides, This one seems to combine the two styles. This one also has some of the same vibes that the Justin Timberlake album i did which makes sense since the two artists did eventually perform this album live together but this album does lack that one's absurdity. The album itself is decent with the singles being some pretty good songs and the other ones being decent but forgettable. This album was really long though without much change or interestingness. This is an alright album, just kinda forgettable. Best Song: Fighter Worst Song: I'm OK

Don’t make pop music like they used to

It’s definitely a lot to listen to, and I think it is good for what it is. There are a couple pretty good songs on there, the vibe is pretty good overall, a lot of interesting variety when it comes to the styles of music. Her voice is very whimsical, and I didn’t realize how well Christina could sing, Definitely a solid album overall. I’ll give it a three out of five because it’s not my vibe, but I think it is very well made overall and I can see the influence on a lot of younger female artists, especially.

Interesting experience - so as an album it’s a bit too long and has too many ballads for my taste but some songs are really good here. It’s funny how one changes over the years - the attitude my world had - and to a degree myself - towards Aguilera was a little too hostile but now - with the benefit of some clarity of thought and the wisdom from the passage of time and better awareness - she was going through a world of misogyny that was quite accepted at the time and she had the audacity to call it out. The intro track quotes music news (wow what a quaint concept nowadays) shows talking casually about Fred Durst being a creep toasted her - and the rest of the album goes on to talk about the double standards towards women and anthems towards being self appreciative and see one’s own beauty while also having fun. And to think at the time it was considered risqué - while today it’s considered par for the course…. Then again this was a time when Fred Durst - a douchebag - had an impact on popular culture. It has been funny revisiting my contemporary artists - Eminem, Britney, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit and see how I, and the world had grown since. Some stood the test of time and some didn’t - but Christina’s actual and artistic voice stands.

I enjoyed this more than I was expecting! I mean there is quite a lot of filler and way too many songs, but the high points had me and the missus bopping around the lounge room! 6/10

I remember the dirty video and how it signaled a loss of innocence for our millennial pop superstars. Ehh who am I kidding it was hot. and Beautiful is a signature song.

Its a good album. It had influences from rap, latin and rock which made it a bit versatile. Unless from the few Bangers its not much of an Album i would listen as a whole. Christina Aguileras voice is a force and this fact stands even if i love or less liked the album in the end. (3.0/5.0)

I liked this more than expected, but…. After the seventh song about accepting myself for who I am, I had my fill. Docked a star for being too long - curse of the cd age. I really prefer an album that’s five a side and all killer.

Overall: 6/10 I liked this a lot more than I expected. I already got the other Aguilera album on the list before this (does she really need 2???) and wasn't a huge fan but this one caught me off guard. There's quite a bit of variety, and I enjoyed the latin vibes. Christina has such an incredible voice and the songs on here are a great showcase for her talent. I personally wouldn't have included it in this list but compared to some of the other garbage that the listmakers added, this isn't a bad addition. Fav Song: Fighter Least Fav Song: I'm OK

Lol some sappy one smash hit. She’s got pipes tho

Se hace laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargo. Yo que sé, música de una época apuntada a un público femenino que se cansó de ser maltratada por la sociedad. Fighter es un clásico y hasta ahí. Es un meh para mi.

Surprisingly good pop album! The songs hold a consistently high quality throughout, and the variation in styles makes the (too) long runtime seem less unbearable than I feared. I’m not too into RnB though, so songs like Loving Me 4 Me make my annoyed&bored-muscle twitch. A solid 6/10

Not my style, but WOW she has an amazing voice 😍

= The Beatles There's a great 45 minute album in here

-everyone was clowning tf out of this on RYM for some reason. I don’t know why. I thought it was quite good even though im really not big on early 2000s R&B stuff. maybe ALMOST 4 stars -her voice is absolutely phenomenal and automatically makes songs stand out even if they’re otherwise a bit generic -Favorites are Fighter, Loving Me 4 Me, and Make Over

i'm writing this before looking at the reviews, but i can only assume they're abysmal because this album is 1) by a woman and 2) mainstream top 40 pop. it sucks that a lot of people probably built those walls of bias before they even pressed play. all that being said, i didn't find this to be a terribly noteworthy album. christina is an incredible vocalist (seriously, if you're reading this in 2025, looking up the video of her dueting current pop darling Sabrina Carpenter. sabrina has a good voice, but next to christina? it's just night and day), but i didn't find a ton of stuff to dig into here beyond the vocal performance. i'm curious if there's more history to this album that makes it noteworthy. it's also incredibly long, and the novelty wears thin. still, i found it largely listenable. idk!

while i appreciate that this album has more depth than a lot of pop music, i'm not sure it's worth sifting through 77 minutes of music to find the hidden gems. luckily, there are also some huge hits of the early aughts on here to make the obvious gems much easier to find. not sure i'll come back to this one but it's decent overall. favorites: can't hold us down, fighter, beautiful, make over, dirrty, i'm ok

Was kinda getting her confused with gwen stefani and was gonna do a rant about how no doubt should be on the list but no completely different entity. Then I realised there was a link as linda perry off the 4 non blondes both wrote songs for them, and yeah the song ‘beautiful’ is amazing. And I was also shocked to find out linda perry was in a relationship with leslie winkle off the Big Bang theory… anyway I keep going on tangents, I’ll say fighter is a strong ‘rocky’ track and christina can really sing and infatuation just felt familiar, not even a single but it sounds like something I’ve heard 1000 times on the radio, maybe early Beyoncé??? Which makes sense when you look into it because it’s partly written by Scott Storch who has written tracks for… Beyoncé. SO many guests on here like we then go to a number with Alicia keys, who to me is simply just a name I’ve heard of but don’t care about. I was horrified when I saw the myriad of credits on make over, was really just the sugarbabes but still I didn’t think we got credits that long till the 2010’s, still thought I love the Spanish flair to this one. Let’s circle back to beautiful, what a perfect pop song seriously it’s the one moment the album stops for something particularly good/ special, me first and the gimmie gimmies have such a good cover of this. I think the album deserves its place though even if I keep getting sidetracked, literally two of the hugest popstars of today (Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX) noted this as an influence…. And when this came out Sabrina would’ve been 3, according to wikipedia, I would’ve been minus 3 but yeah. Charli XCX is that bit older so would’ve remembered it coming out etc… but the only things I’m mentioning that I remember coming out were brat and short and sweet. And now espresso is stuck in my head… and now I’m thinking of that snl thing where Jake Peralta off brooklyn 99 made me cringe so hard. And ariana grande made me cringe in the same skit though, but honestly I saw wicked in the theatre before it became a film/ never liked it. And now I’m thinking of how SNL sounds like SML and cringing on how I used to find jeffy funny. Okay let’s go back to the album… dirty (feat redman) who’s redman??? I’m cringing at his Spotify picture and the names of his top 5 songs right now, it’s alright too in my face for me honestly

There are some good songs on here and she can definitely sing

"Beautiful" = 5 stars. The rest is pleasing R&B-inflected pop.

Stripped Intro - no rating Can't Hold Us Down - 3/5 Walk Away - 4/5 Fighter - 4/5 Primer Amor Interlude - no rating Infatuation - 3/5 Loves Embrace Interlude - no rating Loving Me 4 Me - 3/5 Impossible - 3/5 Underappreciated - 4/5 Beautiful - 4/5 Make Over - 2/5 Cruz - 3/5 Soar - 3/5 Get Mine, Get Yours - 3/5 Dirrty - 2/5 Stripped, Pt. 2 - no rating The Voice Within - 3/5 I'm OK - 2/5 Keep on Singin' My Song - 3/5 Overall rating - 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ surprisingly i didn't hate this. in fact, i liked some of the less popular tracks more than i did the commercially successful. it was faaaar too long of an album though, this could've been at least 5 tracks less.

I liked this A WHOLE LOT MORE than I thought I would. The ballads were not too ballady, the pop songs were pretty poppy. The early-00s were absolutely nightmarish to female stars and she had *been through it*, so i don't need to remember the specifics to understand why she was mad.

Oops! I listened to this and forgot to rate it so now I don't remember if I had any specific references besides - another xtina album, another overly long album with some good singles and an incredible amount of filler!!! 2.5

Unmemorable but unoffensive pop, I'm fine with it

I'm not really a fan of this style of Pop / R&B, because after a while it all sounds the same to me, but I liked the single "Fighter" which was more Rock than Pop; I also liked the singles "Beautiful" and "Dirrty".

this is such a hard mixed bag album for me. on one hand i had a lot of fun growing up in this era of music. christina and brittney were sing along icons and i saw them as super cool and powerful for the time. however now this album doesn’t past the “feminism test” because all the songs are about some bum ass man, either kicking him to the curb or praising him for doing the bare minimum. damn i’m tired of that. this album doesn’t hold up to my current standard and i think growing up w it as an example of girl power had serious consequences for women in my age range. anyway i had fun dancing to it when i was a younger person

Great voice and booty shaking music, not really my thing but it's ok

This was mixed by someone with severe hearing loss in the 4kHz range. Hurts my ears. Otherwise pretty much the same review as Back to Basic. About twice as long as it should have been. Not bad, but could have been better with some more emotion in the backing tracks. Sounds like it came out of a lab. In general the singles are the best songs, but my favorite song is Make Over.

Good pop album for the time with some truly exceptional vocal performances and impeccable production. Songwriting is a bit too cheesy for me to want to listen to again but I didn’t hate this. The grunge rip off “Make Over” made me laugh.

Solid, and I enjoyed most of it, but it is just too damn long and suffers for it. If this was trimmed down to even 50 minutes, I'd be inclined to call this a classic of its era. It probably still is, but a 77 minute runtime has a way of wearing one down. At some point I was hearing her, but not really listening. This is more consistent than 'Back to Basics', but I enjoyed the highs of that album more than this one.

A surprise, I wouldn’t have chosen to listen to early 2000s pop. I like her voice and kind of enjoyed it, even if I don’t know how often I will return to it.

This isn't super "my genre", but Can't hold us down is pretty good. We'll see how this goes. Feel like its important to acknowledge that her vocal range and general vocal talent are off the charts, but I don't really think what she's doing with them is that interesting. The beats feel uninspired, the lyrics vapid, but at least she has pipes.

A throw back to my teen years of the early '00s. It holds up better than the work of some of her peers of the time.

February 12, 2025 (it’s nippy 🥶) HL: “Walk Away”, “Beautiful”, “Make Over”, “Dirty” On the one hand, I will probably never be a true fan of this era of pop (see also: Destiny's Child, Britney Spears), but on the other, some of the lyrics (“I’m OK”) evoke some real pathos, and there are just enough uptempo bits (“Dirty”, “Fighter”) to offset the many, many slow burns. Rolling Stone’s review calling it “almost” an album for grown-ups is a hilarious backhanded compliment I find the cheesy, retro Back to Basics much more appealing I did the math at the end of January, and the math said that I had about an equal spread of 70s, 80s, 90s, and 21st century albums left before I'm finished with this list for good (about 11 each. oh and a couple from the 60s). Seems like I'm getting all the newest albums out of the way first, as not even two weeks later I've had seven of the 11 albums from the new millenium. Statistics is fun :)

It was better than expected.

The only prior exposure I had to Christina Aguilera is that I once heard the end of “Beautiful” on the radio, and liked what I heard. After listening to the album, I found that I rather enjoyed the ballads, but the other stuff, not so much. Hip-hop just isn’t my thing, so the more the songs leaned towards that the less I liked them. I also thought that overall the album was just too long, and many of the songs lingered on too long as well. Overall, I give it a three.

Good music but it’s kinda just generic pop for me. High 3

Wasn’t amazing but an enjoyable nostalgia album

slightly confused by that one part of the album where she starts hopeposting before going straight back to singing about FFUCKING, but overall i liked it a lot

Fine? I like the song with Lil Kim.

Stripped is really good in places but is also massively overproduced and way way way too long. As it's from 2002 there's a really strong nostalgic sound in the first half of the album from anyone who grew up around that time, and the hit songs off the album are truly excellent. There's just so much filler, it doesn't need to be 1hr20, you could cut everything between Beautiful and Dirrty and save 16 minutes alone, and you'd improve the quality and consistency. Gets a decent 3/5, could've been a 4 but, and I know this was an era of indulgence, leave some of it out and leave some of it a bit less well defined. You want to make an album that's simultaneously vulnerable and punchy, you need to expose the track as well as the content, and it's all just a bit too polished.

I said it when we had her previous album, but she has such a good voice, and a lot of this really fails to make the most of it. Beautiful really showcases it, and is great, but there's not enough like that on this album. It's probably twice the length that it needs to be, at 40 minutes this would be an album that felt packed with hits, this just isn't. I think it squeaks a low, low three on the strength of her voice. 3/5.

there is a certain "trying soo hard" that i both admire and can't take entirely seriously. she wants to be so many things!

Pleasantly surprised by how much I actually knew off this album. Not my genre, but I grew up with a lot of these. I was also impressed by the range of style of both Aguilera and the production . It was dreadfully long, though. I made it through ‘soar’, thought that Must be the end, and realized there were 6 more songs. 1 hr 17 minutes? Have mercy please.

Couldn’t help but bob along with this. Solidly a 2000s pop album, lots of Christina’s hits off of here. Enjoyed the more R&B centric tracks. Not really a repeat album for me, and it’s way too long for a pop album.

Some pleasant songs

undeniably talented and extraordinary voice, not my usual genre but still great

Non-offensive pop music from the early 2000s that has a couple standout songs (Beautiful and Fighter spring to mind) and a wide variety of styles. ENjoyable but probably twice as long as necessary. I blame digital media, where you can have a literal infinite number of tracks (8, 12, 24 - what the hell, why not 128? 256?) and an unlimited amount of recording time (in the past, you would only want to buy so much tape, noiw that doesn't matter, the artist can burn through digital media without consequence). It's ok. More of a 2 1/2 star out of five but you have to round and I'll round up because Christina Aguilera is a better singer than most of her contemporaries including Madonna.

It started so good, but it didn't need to be 1 hour a 17 minutes, specially when almost every song sounds the same

No denying the talent. A few great tunes. Peak CA. Just not my music. But she’s got talent for sure.

That was as terrible as I anticipated. In fact is was pretty good. The fact is, she can really sing. There were a few tracks that were scoring slightly too high on the Mariah-ometer. It’s a pet hate of mine when singers sing about 9 different quick notes, when 1 would absolutely do just fine. But a lot of it was great. A lot of the album tracks were better than the big singles, which made it all very listenable.

Good album. Not my thing musically but Aguilera sure can sing. The vocal gymnastics wear on me after a while. My favorite song was “Make Over”.

held my attention, but outside of a couple tracks, didn't really do much else.

I never cared for Christina Aguilera's R&B stuff really and cringed at some of the tracks on this album. However, "Can't hold us down" is a feminist anthem. "Fighter" and "Dirrty" are absolute bangers.

Pretty solid pop although it was really long. Her voice is nice as long as she doesn't go super over the top with it

Not that bad, but not my style so much.

Definitely more bangers than I would have guessed, there is probably another pop/r&b album of the era that could have taken its place though.

This album definitely wasn't for me, and the from-your-toes diva singing isn't my favorite, but I found somethings to like in some of the lyrics. I think if I were a 15-25 year old girls in 2002 this album would have destroyed me, and even outside of that scenario I think beautiful is a genuinely good and important song. I will never put this on again (with the possible exception of Make Over, which I found interesting), but I'm surprised at how glad I am that I listened to it. 3

I guess I liked this a little more than I expected, but I’m still not running out to buy a copy. Beautiful l, powerful voice, but the style isn’t exactly my jam. The Redman feature was easily my favorite track.

Not my style of music but she can really sing.

There’s a decent amount of variety in the genres here, and I won’t pretend Beautiful isn’t a little nostalgic for me. But I’d like Christina so much more if she wasn’t prone to over singing.

This was much more enjoyable to listen to than expected. I realized my opinion of Xtina was completely skewed by watching so much american idol in my tweens. She's got a really powerful voice. Album itself got a little long in the tooth near the end.

I was expecting this to be much worse that it is. Can't deny Christina Aguilera has a powerful voice, but I don't think think this album was warranted being almost an hour and a half long.

Went in skeptical about what would resonate for me 20 years from its release (when I, like most teenage girls, sang along to all the major hits). Not sure the lyrics always resonate but pleasantly surprised by melodies and her voice in general.

Other than the few I knew, this was underwhelming

Really enjoyable pop album. Covers a fair bit of ground stylistically, some rock stuff, some RnB, some jazzy elements. This is not the sort of thing i would usually chose to listen to, but i enjoyed it on the whole!

She shines in the uptempo songs, of which there are too few

It's early 2000's pop. I was in elementary school when this came out and I wasn't a huge fan then. By today's standards, it's fine. Pop just isn't my genre.

Not bad. Just not my style

I was ready to come out blasting the big 4s and 5s but thankfully this album isn’t all that. Back to Basics surprised me and i gave it a 4, so if this was as good as I was expecting it might be, she lands a spot in my top rated artists, and that’s simply not true. Too long, too many boring ballads.

The production is pretty good/ at least timeless - genie in a bottle came next on spotify and sounded notably dated, while this sounds like it could have come out last year, probably any year. Singings good, some hooks, some beyonce-ish trilling. little corny self actualization stuff. But it's all alright, solid pop.

Much better than I expected.

This album would have been great hat is started with Beautiful. Everything before It is not very interesting and her vocal gymnastics overshadow emotion. But I do like the last 1/4 of this she feel less frenetic more emotionally focused. Shame had to endure the first 3/4 of the album.

This album was monumental for Christina Aguilera. It was the album that sort of took her from "girl" to "woman" in terms of her career. The music here is incredibly diverse, ranging from hard beats to slow crooning. But in any case, it is a departure from Aguilera's more bubblegum pop style of her first album. The content is generally more mature, as well. This album also cements Aguilera as a vocal powerhouse, demonstrating just what she is capable of with that strong voice of hers. As far as this album's importance to music on a wider scale, it did a lot to show that women pop singers could still be serious vocalists, even in the age of bubblegum pop, and that they were capable of doing both types of music. As far as this album being a "must listen", it definitely has some must listen songs on it that have stood the test of time and continue to be well-crafted pop anthems to this day. As for the entire album: it is a bit long, in my opinion, and some of the songs drag a bit. Again though, the album really shows a lot of diversity in style. So while it dragged a bit, it wasn't exactly boring. All in all, a very strong showing from Christina Aguilera, even if I don't fully agree with the entire album being quite as strong as its peaks.

She’s got an amazing voice but I just didn’t really care for any of the songs.

I love her talent, but I feel like the music/producers/beats do not do her songs justice. There's a few bangers in here, but some of the songs she overdoes her voice thing (her signature singing style). It's great, but it's too much on 1-2 songs.

I was unprepared to enjoy a SECOND Christina Aguilera album on the 1001 list. Her voice is fantastic, and the lyrics are outdated but still significant. However, even though I believe no one needs to listen to her albums before they die, the songs are here, and among all the crappy albums that I've heard before on the list, this is genuinely far from the worsts.

I liked this, great singles and album tracks and a fantastic voice that stands out from the standard pop stars of the era

Eh, it's ok I guess. I don't really know enough abpout pre-Christina but it is interesting that albums 4 and 5 are on this list. Fave: Fighter, Make Over was also interesting.

Some bangers but also some filler

There are some big, big hitters on here - Beautiful and Fighter mainly. There is also a lorra, lorra dross that is over-produced, too slick and generally a bit bland. Totally inoffensive, occasionally brilliant, but mostly just...there.

Decent but please stop spamming vocal growl over every line…

Not too shabby. She does a lot of genre exploration on this album, tracks are all over the place. Kind of lacks coherency because of that, although it is interesting to hear her try out many different sounds. It's all _very_ produced though, clean and sparkly. I'm not particularly enamored with pop music, so this doesn't really speak to me, but it is a solid effort, and I respect her decision to maintain tighter creative control and explore.

Jeez this kept on going. Decent Y2K pop with a couple of big hits. Xtina sure can sing her ass off

I enjoyed it and thought it was a good time, but it drags a lot by the end. Some good songs, great opener with Can't Hold Us Down and can confidently said that I liked more than half of the songs in it, counting interludes. But by I'm OK I was waiting for it to end already. 3.5/5 Good time.

I was close to giving this album a 2, but there are a few good tracks on it and once I let my distaste for vocal embellishments (of which CA is the undisputed champ) go, it was easier to appreciate the big swing this album is. I don't think she ever shook Reflection and Genie fully, but she's trying to do the work. It seems like she needed slightly better songwriters at all times, but that voice is so powerful. I just wish she wouldn't 'oh,oh,oh' after EVERY line.

While this album falls under the pop music umbrella, it has just a little bit of everything. It has emotional, slow ballads like “Beautiful” and “Cruz,” upbeat dance numbers like “Can’t Hold Us Down” and quasi pop-rock like “Fighter.” Overall the album truly is a hallmark and fitting microcosm for early 2000s pop with an R&B flair. Clocking in at over 70 minutes, it is a rather lengthy listen and has its fair share of filler/dud moments (particularly thinking of “Make Over” which is oddly placed between 2 slower songs). Needless to say the vocal performances are strong and it’s a well produced effort with some gems of the early 2000s pop/R&B era

Pretty good, but not her best album. I liked the redman song

looong, but actually could be better than Back to basics. Beautiful is a true 00's classic.

Enjoyable album even though i'm not a great fan of this genre. Good voice and varied style with really competent playing. It's real and Christine projects this well and sincerely.

I think this was too long which sort of buries the gems and makes it unfocused as a whole. At the same time, I appreciate the stylistic variety and her absolutely rock solid vocals. High points: Can't Hold Us Down, Fighter, Beautiful Low point: Loving Me 4 Me (feels very male gaze)

"Xtina" has great talent, obviously, and I remember this one being when she started to really break out of the teeny-bop image. It has several good pop songs, maybe even a couple great ones ("Beautiful" and "Fighter" still get tons of play 20 years later). But man, going through this list has made me realize how much the invention of the CD caused serious runtime bloat to albums. This one is about 8 songs too long.

Good pop album buoyed by two really great songs.

Pretty decent. Thought it sounded quite like an Alicia Keys album in terms of arrangement - then I saw she was a producer on the album... 3.5*

So this was A LOT of Christina! Some good ones though!

it's fun remembering a time when pop music was influenced by multiple genres as opposed to just other pop music.

This was actually quite good with a lot of interesting songs and really interesting to listen to. I liked this a lot more than I expected to. Good on ya, Xtina.

Never listened to this when it came out. Undeniable that she has an amazing voice.

This is a good pop record, and would be a great record if it was 20 minutes. Aguileras voice is so powerful, and shines on the ballads, particularly on Soar and The Voice Within. I really wish she would make a gospel record, that would suit her voice like a glove.

Too long couldn’t finish it. 2.5 stars

Extra points for being a Pittsburgh girl. Seriously though, such a great voice and great story telling

insightful

I'm not a huge Christina fan, but it really is a shame that she got lumped in with Brittany and Pink and the like. She's clearly in a different league. This album seems like a real attempt to gain that separation in the early 2000s. It feels more genuine. And, the collabs she got on this album (Scott Storch, Alicia Keys, etc.) show the respect she had (has) as an artist compared to her contemporaries.

first complaint: i dunno if it was just the spotify version or if it's just how the album is produced, but this whole thing has such high, piercing treble that it's hard to enjoy this thing on headphones. that's probably my biggest complaint. second complaint: i don't really like her weird attempts at merging flamenco with r&b. put the guitar down. third complaint: i am not a fan of Christina's inspirational ballads. i think "Beautiful" is the chintziest song of all time and other songs like "Soar" don't do a much better job of winning me over. still, when the album jams, it jams. Aguilera's voice is impressive and she can really do great things to a melody. im kind of a sucker for dated 2000's neo-soul/r&b beats, and the first half of the album does have a lot of them. maybe in a world where this thing wasn't 77 minutes long, it'd be a really great album, but the CD urge to give people their money's worth kind of makes the whole thing feel a bit more tedious than it should be. 7 not 6, but a very shaky 7. my ears might need a little time to recover.

Objectively really good. Touches on some heavy subjects and has a surprising amount of depth for a pop album. The runtime it a bit too long for my taste however and its not really my cup of tea.

It was okay. Certainly better than I expected it to be. Although, a little longer than I'd have liked

I was ready to give this a One * but then listening to the undoubted hits which are very good songs in their own right I was swayed. Not my cup of tea but it's well done and deserve to be considered.

Not bad

This is one of the best pop albums on the list. Firstly, it has great songs on it. Versatile sounds like going from fighter and dirty to beautiful. 3 great pop songs and songs of the early 00's This is as good as pop gets. Too much filler for me though like underappreciated and make over. This makes it a 3 for me. Favourite song: Dirty Least favourite: Underappreciated. Album artwork: Cool cover.

Heyyy xtina!!! Her voice is beautiful, the r & b grooves are great and let’s take a moment to appreciate that iconic dirrrrty video 😈🙌I remember when this album came out and made girls feel proud of their random hookups 🥹 slut phase memories

I listen to a ton of pop these days, but I didn't listen to much back in the early 2000s, and I never ended up getting into Christina beyond the hits. Her voice is incredible, no denying that. And I've always loved Fighter and Beautiful, but I didn't realize how empowering and feminist the rest of the record would be. My gripe is that it's too long and a little all over the place. Maybe I'd enjoy it more with a second listen. Either way, she deserves her status as a pop icon. Oh yeah, and the transition from Walk Away to Fighter was sick.

A very good 2000's era Pop album. Aguilera's vocal talent stands out compared to her peers of that time. Musically, her albums go back and fourth between showcasing her talent and trying to keep up with the other Pop songs of time. Overall this is not my kind of music, but gets extra points for having Redman on a song. 2.5/5 Won't listen again

Great voice but not my usual style.

I would've been able to give a shorter version of this album a pretty positive score. But as is it's way too fucking long. We do NOT need 20 songs here. Once I hit Beautiful I was ready for it to end, only to realise I was only half way. The hits are good, and there's some quality but the lack of fat trimming really pushes this down for me. Fav songs: - Can't Hold Us Down - Walk Away - Fighter - Beautiful

Beautiful.

Little too much

Super Y2K… which I love but at the same time I don’t love that much at all. Album cover is so good tho Christina ate I wish I could rock those jeans like that.

Pretty long, some songs were boring, others were jams though. 6/10

Good solid easy listening. Seemed a better quality YouTube experience. Long.

Didn't exactly convince me to seek her music out but I didn't "change the channel"

Was never a big fan of Xtina. Fighter was every female's anthem at the time, but the rest of the album is pretty weak. 2.5 stars.

This girl is messed up 3 stars

As a caveat, this is not my type of music. I’ve never cared for pop, and most likely never will. That said, this album was significantly more soulful than I anticipated. No one can deny that she has a powerful voice, and she uses it well here. However, it’s still not my thing and it got old well before an hour. And then then was quite a bit after that. I’d have to agree with whoever said it’s almost music for grownups. Objectively, it probably deserves four stars, but for me, the best I can do is three.

Over the top, overproduced but not exactly overwhelming. It's all over the place stylistically, but the girl's got undeniable pipes – that's the only through-line – and shows them off continually. There are a handful of winning cuts, but the whole exercise seems more about hit-making than music making. Maybe she was ripping off Mariah or Janet, but one likes this better than what offerings one's heard from those artists. .

I liked this more than I expected. It's a long and slightly confused album, which seems consistent with CA wanting to throw everything she could at the recording. But her voice is at times superb, and very few of the tracks feel like filler. I'd happily listen to this again.

I think its an important album from a music/cultural history perspective. It definitely characterizes the bloated album run-time of the early to mid-2000s (77 minutes!).

Love her voice and energy

Look, Xtina is great, but when I saw this was a nearly 80 minute album I was worried. Turns out I had nothing to worry about - it’s actually pretty darn good and surprisingly didn’t feel like it dragged It’s a bit all over the place, trying to balance her new hip-hop inspired sound and brash persona on songs like Dirrty with huge ballads like Beautiful, and the quality of the production varies a lot (even between songs produced by the same people - Can’t Hold Us Down is fantastic while Fighter sounds incredibly messy). The main appeal of course is her voice, which is astounding throughout regardless of the genre she’s going for, and the album is full of fun hooks and choruses as well as her trademark vocal runs. All in all an inconsistent but generally pretty good pop album which actually justifies is monumental length

Genuinely better than I was expecting, I enjoyed it a lot. Fighter is still an amazing song

This album is pretty good even with some heavy signs of age. Much like the album art, this style is distinctly early 2000s and while that style didn't stick around, it's still iconic. This album puts Aguilera's vocals on full display and while being a bit overdone, I think it sounds great. There are some snoozers in here but also 'The fighter' and 'Beautiful' which are songs I didn't know I knew until I found myself singing along. I didn't care for the length of this and there's a lot of tracks and a lot of them drag. This kind of music does not need multiple interludes. Overall I think this is a great time capsule from the 2000s and well represents Christina Aguilera, whom I mainly know from watching 'The Voice'.

First thing: this shit is just way too long. This could have been two albums, especially at the time. The contents are actually not bad - I think she’s always been one of the better actual musicians in the sea of pop music from the mid 90s to the late 2000s. That said it is still fundamentally an album written and produced for mass market appeal. The standout tracks are all the singles, which makes sense. “Drrty”, “Beautiful”, “Fighter”, etc. The other tracks seem average to fine with nothing particularly bad in it. Just kinda boring stuff that doesn’t resonate with me, the absolute opposite of the intended audience of course. You could do a lot worse for a pop album. You could do a lot worse than Scott Storch as a producer of the time too, which for various personal reasons is still hysterical to me.

She has always had an outstanding voice. For some reason a lot of this album felt long and boring to me, though. I wanted to like it more.

Not sure I expected to see something as "poppy" as this on the list, but I'm glad I did. It's fun with something other than rock! The album itself was a bit too long for my taste with it's 1hr 20min or so runtime. Christina really has some superclass vocals, and I never experienced this before, but it actually got a bit fatiguing after a while somehow. It's just so intense, and it feels like all lines she sings needs to be sung with extreme presence and energy. Almost like she's trying to sing every song in the most technical and impressive way, just for the sake of doing it - and because she can. There were a handful of classics in there that you've heard before, like 'Infatuation', 'Beautiful', and 'Dirrty'. The hits are decent, but it's not really my jam to be honest. You can't deny that this probably had some impact when it came, definitely played a lot when it came out! Solid 3 overall.

Some pop was really a breath of fresh air! It was fun to listen to something other than rock. I didn't expect this album on this list but looking through its very long runtime there actually are quite a few hits. You could remove maybe two thirds of this album (keeping the hits) and you would have a really good album worthy of a four star. As it stands, the album is a bit all over the place. You can tell that there are very many songwriters as there is not really a cohesive vision or sound. The album runs long, and while Aguilera's singing is on point, I got very tired of her style by the end. The whole thing just comes off as an overproduced collection of songs where the producers took the shotgun approach and of course managed to get a few good shots in. Still the hits are good and I think this album may be a trailblazer for future pop stars to follow.

fine, seemed like average pop sound, not terribly distinctive.

Surprisingly good

3.75, liked first half but then it kept going and going

You love her or you don't like her. I'm undecided. Nice pop - Album.

I never got into Christina when I was younger beyond radio singles. I was in the Spears boat as a fan, but these are the albums that get me excited on this list. The ones I truly missed while growing up, not some 60's UK folk album that no one remembers. I will give a ding for all the interludes, a product of its time but still. I know I've heard Fighter before and Beautiful is a classic. Glad this one made it on here, but it's funny I wonder if she was going for the Hip Hop cred having so many interludes and an album clocking right in at that CD max of hr 20. I think the album is a bit long in the tooth, but not going to complain.

Somewhat unremarkable pop album, but Christina has a great voice. I didn't think I'd know any tracks on here, but I definitely recognized "Beautiful." I'm saving four tracks, which is pretty good. I'm not sure if this really belongs on a list of this magnitude, but as far as pop albums go, it was a pretty good time. Favorite tracks: Walk Away, Fighter, Beautiful, Soar. Album art: Christina posing in front of a white background. She looks pretty powerful here, goated one might say. The look and picture are somewhat iconic for her, but as an album cover it's not super interesting to me. 3.5/5

definitely too long but then I hear "Dirrty" and every endorphin in my brain gets activated all at once.

R&B, pop comercial. Buena voz pero no me hace mucho. Ni fu ni fa.

This album came out my senior year of high school and I have never heard all of it. I do remember some of the tracks, and they never excited me as much as the videos(you know what I mean). Anyway, right away I enjoyed Walk Away, as it features her vocals, and she clearly has a great singing voice, and that theme continued throughout. I enjoyed the less popular tracks a little more. The bigger singles were fine, and overall the album is good for a pop album, which isn't really my thing.

Inexcusably long, but it's generally fine. Wouldn't seek it out but there's worse pop.

This album would be half the length if you took out all the notes Christina over sings That said, there are some decent songs on this that have held up far better than expected I gave Britney a 2 and this is better so I guess it gets a generous 3

Being it's the first time I've ever heard this album or any track on it but “Beautiful,” I'm a little surprised this release was selected over Ms. Aguilera's first album, which had quite a few hits. While I've always respected her singing ability—stunning voice and control over it—I have never followed any of her work. I'm happy to have heard the album and found a handful of tracks pleasant. I'll be happy to return to them individually. The album seems well produced, and several sources claim this album inspired many in the next generation of musicians, but to me it doesn't seem particularly memorable.

This was fine for what it is. The vocals are good enough to get to a 3 even though I'm not a big fan of the genre, but barely. 2.5

I have to admit that I was surprised to see this one the list. I remember hating most of this album when it came out and was played constantly. I was probably wrong. This is not my style of music, but it's not bad. I'm not sure what makes this album different from a ton of other pop albums from the same decade. Why did this album make the list instead of them? Or are they all here and I just haven't gotten to them yet? Overall good, but slightly too long, pop album. Not sure how influential it actually was.

Xtina, how and why did you make this so long?!

A good misture of influences and great voice. I find her pop music has aged and I con only enjoy it in small doses. A full album is too much

I can’t listen to over an hour of a diva I do not claim as mine. The filler tracks are awful. True pop drivel. But, she does have some legit pipes on her, I can’t deny that. Fighter is a great song. And this album birthed a whole new era for her career. I was in high school when it came out and I remember how scandalized all of our parents were by the Dirrty music video. I could never tell if this new hyper-sexualized image was a bold personal choice on Xtina’s part or if it was just corporate puppetry to sell records, and I guess that’s why she never became a favourite or staple to me. But good for her for having a hugely successful album that did produce so many major pop culture defining moments.

I have a soft spot for Christina, but the irony of an album called stripped going on for 78 fucking minutes! Some killer tunes but lots of filler too.

While the music was nothing special to me, her voice is powerful and wonderful to hear.

Not in my edition of the book! 2002. 3 stars. Well, she's got a great set of pipes, and there are a handful of good songs on this - but there is also a LOT of filler. Better quality control and this could have been a 5 - as it is, it goes on far too long.

It was okay overall with my favorites being “Fighter” and “Beautiful”

When it started I was thinking I’m liking this more than I thought I would. Then after a while I was getting pretty tired of it. She has got a great voice but there are so many songs on this album. Towards the end there were a couple of songs that I kinda liked again but in the end I’m feeling about 2.5 but I will round up.

I only listened to this just for the sake of knocking it off the list. As much as I don't want to admit it, I actually enjoyed some of it. Unfortunately, it had a lot of weak moments, but I have to give credit where credit is due—it had some moments that I really enjoyed.

there are some nice songs on here and christina's voice, as always, is incredible. but honestly i found this album a bit boring and same-y. the hits on here are great pop songs, but the rest of it is very generic early 00s pop music that does not stand out in any way. very middle of the road for me.

Never listened to an album of hers although her stamp on the late 90s and beyond has been and continues to be significant. I've heard many of her songs, several of which came from this album. Her vocals are signature in the same way Mariah Carey's are. You just know a Christina Aguilera song the moment you hear the voice. Some of the songs have some substance instead of disposable pop, which is cool to hear, "Beautiful" is chief among those. I also respect her musician-ship in that she wrote many of these songs and produced the vocals. The instrumentals in the album are minimal, and at times feel sampled, underproduced, and secondary to the vocals, which occassionally is ok, but then a song like "Impossible" comes on, and you realize how much better this album could be with stronger instrumentals. "Fighter" kicks ass and is a solid pop single. It builds, it has energy, and it just begs to be part of an early 2000s teen movie montage. I'm sure it was in one or ten. This album clips along, and is mostly a cohesive pop album. I see its relevance. It's not my thing overall, but worthy of a listen.

A good album, I liked Fighter, impossible and Dirty.

A couple of bops on this album can't really save it from my lack of interest.

Didn’t realise a few of the songs on this album were by her. Was fairly enjoyable

This is a fine pop album and probably one of Aguilera's better ones. My question is largely unanswered as to why this is a must listen. I'll throw in that this album clocks in at a whopping 1 hour, 17 minutes - that's about 30 minutes too long for a pop album regardless of what the message of it is supposed to be, which after listening to this album, I'm not sure. 3/5

Bit too long for my taste, could have stripped some of the less memorable songs and would have been a 4

Much more R&B vibes than I expected. She's definitely talented, but just not my thing.

A hell of a singer

Actual banger

Chicken strips

This whole era of pop is so nostalgic for me and man Aguilera has a hell of a voice, but this album was about three times as long as necessary imho

As far as turn-of-the-millenium Pop goes, this one is alright. Aguilera's voice is her strength, most songs are not, with the notable exceptions of (obviously) Fighter and Beautiful. 3/5

Better than peak Britney - isn't that all that matters?

Two hits from early 2000s and a long album of quite average song to compliment it. Christina had an amazing and unique voice at the time, but stylistically it's on the rather boring generic pop music level. Anyway, Stronger will remain a great song forever.

Great voice but come on.

A little unnecessary

Mixing struck me as a little flat, but I was surprised by the quality of the songs nonetheless. Not sure I needed an hr 17 min of Aguilera runs tho

When I was younger I would have given this a 1 sight unseen. However, pop has really grown on me and this is a career and decade defining album. The vocals on this album are fantastic of course, though the production and skits are very dated. My biggest issue is the total lack of cohesiveness. There are heartfelt songs interspersed with songs about claiming female sexuality. There’s nothing wrong with mixing up your content, but there are so many sounds here (Latin, gospel, soul, R&B) that don’t blend, but rather transition abruptly. This record plays like a collection of unrelated songs rather than an album. However, due to its influence, it still deserves a 3.

It was kind of a refreshing to have something so poppy on here. She does have a belter of a voice. I wouldn’t necessarily choose to listen to this, but it was kind of fun. It also brought back endearing memories of us driving in Park City with ‘Beautiful’ blaring on the radio. Some of these songs probably have a lot of resonance with a certain contingent and if it empowers them (or anyone) then I am overjoyed.

Her voice is powerful. Production is super slick. I know the words and will sing along with the hits. I could take or leave this album.

No question, Christina Aguilera can sing. She's got a nice depth to her voice that sets her apart from many of her contemporaries. But I find so much of this record sounds sterile. Or distant. I'm not finding the words to describe it, but there's some music that can evoke a serious emotional response, and this flavor of pop just can't — not from me, at least. Even the song "Beautiful," which I've heard (I wouldn't have known it was Aguilera), it's a beautiful song. The melody is striking, the production is pretty sparse, until the harmonies kick in, and still, I feel like there's a wall between me and the performer. She just sounds distant and untouchable. It's a product of the product — which is why I don't relate to this genre in general. I hear the talent. I am unmoved.

The hits really slam but this is a long album with a lot of that belting out, which is best for me in smaller doses.

I don’t think I’ve ever really listened to an Aguilera song other than beautiful before. In all honestly I don’t think it was super necessary to have heard not influential but i don’t have anything negative to say about it. I thought it was just a fun album and seemed to go by fast. No complaints.

Million dollar voice, 25-cent lyrics.

Yep. That was an album. This was my second experience with Christina Aguilera, and I'd say I enjoyed the two albums about the same. This is a solid pop album. As stated in my Back to Basics review, I think that her singing is quite good and impressive. The instrumentals are decent. They vary in quality, but most of them are good. The writing is pretty personal actually. The big reason for why this whole album feels personal was because Christina felt that her debut album wasn't personal enough, with her not really getting any creative control. This album was said to be her true debut, and I can see that. Is this my favorite album in the world? No. It really isn't my thing personally. On top of that, this thing is just way too long. They probably could've cut half the songs from here and all of the desired points would have still come across in a meaningful way. However, I have an immense amount of respect for this album and can see why it's on here. High 3/5.

Christina at her best

Christina’s Stripped is a relatively constant, extended display of her change in ways. Her voice is beautiful, and on songs like Beautiful, really make way to create an enjoyable listening experience. However, the undeniable filler in this album brings the score down, not to mention the overall lack of variety as well. All in all, Stripped is an alright album.

Her voice starts off pretty good, but then it kinda falls into a more average pop voice. Not too impressed halfway through and I am not thrilled that this is well over an hour long. The last half picked up a good bit once "Beautiful" hit. I'd say this brought it up to a soft 3. Wasn't my favorite listen, especially how long it went, but there was some stuff to like in here.

Some of these songs went pretty hard, especially Fighter. She has some serious sass to her which I was getting down with. The horns and guitar in some of the songs were pretty toight too. Beautiful was a classic song from childhood. The slow songs were a bit tough and some parts were a little too poppy. I liked this album more than I was expecting. Rating this a pretty high 3. Wish it was about 20 minutes shorter though.

Overall a pleasant album, but too many songs! Every song sounded nice, but some weren't so distinct from another. The album didn't seem totally cohesive, more like a collection of songs that sounded pretty good. Christina Aguilar also insists on belting every part of the song on multiple tracks, which can be grating if not distracting. There are some big hits, like "Fighter" and "Beautiful." Of course "Dirrty" is a BANGER and such a fun song. A pretty good album with some skips.

Love her tits but the music is a bit generic

The hits are great, rest is filler.

3.5 - This record is a lot more grandiose than it needs to be. Christina had a massive vision that isn’t fully realized. She takes a chomp out of many different genres: Latin, hip hop, neo-soul, pop-rock anthems, gospel, R&B, Disney-esque ballads. Obviously she managed to land a couple huge hits, notably her best song “Beautiful.” And she’s clearly done the work — she gets songwriting credit on most of these songs — so I can’t fault her for swinging for the fences. But, once again, she’s all over the place, and most of her songs sound derivative. Also, I find her hypersexuality phony and more than a little tacky (just look at the pants she’s wearing on the album cover and their accentuated vag triangle).

For some inexplicable reason, there was a fad in the 00s where every pop artist deemed it necessary to have their albums run for more than an hour. It's a damn shame, because even though I'm not part of the target audience, Stripped could have been a great, focused pop record. 'Fighter', 'Beautiful', and 'The Voice Within' are generational anthems, and there is no denying Aguilera's incredible voice. Though I did wish she would hold a bit back on the phrasings and vocal runs.

Solid pop album by Aguilera containing some of the defining bangers of the 2000’s. It’s just a shame that they included the 20 song, 77 minute anniversary deluxe edition for this list. What? Are you telling me that’s just the regular edition? Well, that’s embarrassing - and completely uncalled for.

The way I screamed when I saw this come up -it was kinda iconic she put an intro song on here, like classic rock album style -it’s giving big Alicia keys vibes too -fighter fucks so hard -this is like a group project where CA did 70% of the work -I love the little sound bite songs between songs, it feels so intentional in the album crafting. Makes it feel like almost a live album -that being said, this album is entirely too long -Underappreciated -it seems almost intentionally “stripped” back sonically

Better than I was expecting, though a little long. A nice mix of pop/rock/ballad/rap. She's got a great voice and the backing music was varied and enjoyable.

Very listenable, well produced pop-album with the hit-single "Beautiful". Maybe little too long.

Credit where credit's due, this one surprised me - Aguilera kept me entertained for over an hour, and while a certain fatigue does set in by the end it was much less than that of other lengthy pop LPs. The big hits definitely shine brightest here (any '00s child will recognize 'Fighter' whether they know it or not), but there was enough interesting production and artistic flourishes to push this above radio-friendly filler. The airtight production does feel a bit sterile by the end, but Aguilera's killer vocals punch through the gloss and offer a more varied, organic element to the album. Pop music can be good actually!

Some good songs

I thought I only knew one song of hers going in, Genie in a Bottle. Turns out I know at least two others (Fighter and Beautiful), just thought they were Kelly Clarkson or somebody else. Well, this album started off poorly with a GIRL POWER song featuring an annoying Lil' Kim rap. Big pass. After that, there is actually some decent pop stuff here. The girl can sing for sure, though sometimes her vocal acrobatics are a bit much, but that's what was popular (is it still?). The album goes on too long with too many "inspirational" songs. Cut it off after 15 tracks and we're good.

Christina Aguilera is a pretty strong singer. I liked this album overall, it felt more like soul than like pop for the most part. However, this album did not need to be 77 minutes long. I feel like it would be easy to crop this album's 20 tracks down to 13-15 at least.

I never really listened to Christina before; I didn’t think it was my kind of music. And I was right, it isn’t what I typically listen to. But that being said, I was quite surprised. This girl can sing. Her conviction, passion and power help sell what normally I would consider rather banal lyrics. A number of different styles going on here. I must admit, it was an enjoyable listen.

Can't hold us down, what a bop, even if she did basically black up in the video. First thoughts were wow she really does have quite a voice, but after a bit it's quite a lot of warble and ballads. I didn't get Beautiful or Dirrrrrty so something went wrong there. Another one that seems to have been since bumped from the book

One hour and 17 minutes! C'mon Christina, EDIT. Some bangers, for sure, and her voice is obviously great. 30 minute album would probably be 5 stars, but lots of these songs started sounding the same and could have been dropped.

Bit torn on this one. I think its good well produced pop album. However she thinks her voice is better than it is. The album is a bit scattergun and it's way too long.

Pre-listening thoughts: I think I’m familiar with three songs here. Even in her heyday I was more of a Britney person. I can guarantee I’ve never listened to this album. Underappreciated was a new find. Dare I say, an underappreciated one? But I think generally, Christina is not for me because her project is not one I’m interested in. Of the Britney/Jessica/Mandy generation, she’s the One Who Can Sing. No denying that. But that’s not what I want. So when she Sings, it falls flat for me. Not her fault. I’m just not going to keep coming back to this, except for the songs where she’s just doing pop stuff.
