Reviews (page 9 of 14)

30 years ago, this would have been an automatic 5 stars. Now, I feel I've outgrown them but can appreciate the musicianship (except Anthony Kiedis's vocals, which really bring the songs down). Extra star for John Frusciante, who is still the best guitarist I've ever seen. Favorite: Breaking the Girl Would I listen to it again: No

I may not love the sound, but I respect the originality.

Classic classic classic. An iconic crossover album for one of the most enduring, unique bands comprised of 4 masters of their craft. Awesome stuff to look back on. Album itself is a little bloated in spots, but it’s high points are super solid.

Bit noisy and long but with a great song in there 5/10

Good rock, good vocals, don't care for the lyrics. Sounds like music ahead of its time, which goes to show how influential they are (for the music I listen to) 3.6

Love the rap and funk in If You Have to Ask. Found the rest bizarrely boring - sounded busy, and like they should be interesting, but just weren't? His affected voice doesn't help. It's cooler on the rap ones, like Mellowship Slinky in B Major which was good. Give It Away is of course fun, and I really liked the title track. Really liked the ping ponging voices in The Greeting Song chorus.

I can’t give this less than a 3, sorry

Listened to it in parts, never got bored of it tbh

That was a long album, the very essence of the at the time idea of fill the cd, with very little editorial process. Less is sometimes more. Which leads to a very inconsistent listen, when he varies his lyrics it is better, but the sexual innuendo and base lust angle becomes old really quickly and just sounds bratty (at best). 3 Star for the shorter more streamlined album that’s in there.

Complete

Is that Lin Manuel?

good ol rhcp how can u hate it

3.0/5.0: Good

I'm a little to old for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Started out strong, then fell off, with a few glimmers of excitement.

Most of this is mediocre at best. I did by this on tape a cd as well.

Wasn’t expecting to like this one but found it to be kinda alright, wasn’t too good though. 3 stars

I feel like I can't give it less than 3 stars because there are some songs on here I like (or have liked in the past)... but some of this was pretty bad.

Heard of the band but couldn't name you any of their songs. It was interesting, I kind of enjoyed its vibes, but it also felt weird and not my kind of thing at times, so I'm not sure.

Under the bridge cracking tune

It's alright but doesn't strike me as anything more than generic.

Funky rock, interesting industrial sound on Breaking the Girl! I could have lied is nice, reminds me of Zephyr Song in arpeggios Can see how this came out of left field! Even with funk influences there's nothing else that sounds like RHCP Give it away is a masterpiece Best track (new to me): The Greeting Song? Breaking the Girl? Does start to drag, at 1hr 20

First time I've actually heard this. I'm in yng minority in preferring they're later more melodic stuff which this gradually gets closer too but is still covered in funk. Similar pattern to many of the albums so far: just too long.

The singles hold up well but everything else sounds vaguely the same.

I didn't completely finish it. It was very funky, which I like, but most of the songs didn't really have enough character or a good structure. Some of the songs are iconic, but that was about it for me. I thought I would enjoy the album more. Maybe I just wasn't feeling it on that day.

I grew up listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers' hits on KROQ so seeing this album cover was already nostalgic. After listening to this album end to end, I realized that I'm far more of a "Californiacation" person than "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik" person. This album isn't bad, but there is a decent amount of fluff in it that I think the album could do without. I very much appreciate the band and how popular they've been for this long. I'm just indifferent to this album in particular.

classic

Not my sort of music generally so feel I wouldn't do a review on this album justice.

Kinda just think they're a little gross and that perhaps taints my rating

Definitely good but have to be in the right mood for it. Also it still does drag a little long

Some dizzy highest but some very average stuff mixed in.

o único do rhcp minimamente escutavel

Итс окэй, наверное. Я никогда не любил эту группу, но как фон - норм. Лучшая песня - Under The Bridge.

Way too long. But put it on at the gym and it rocks. Don’t listen to half the lyrics if possible.

Vocals are the weak link here. When he tries to do anything melodic, the melodies aren't interesting at all. The band is fire, but a whole album of it gets tiresome. 3 stars.

This album was described by Wikipedia as “rap rock”, which seems right on target, although I never listened to an entire RHCP album previously. There are a few good songs here, but somehow the album seems old and dated.

My review got deleted again >:( Crucial (er... well... sorta) points: -This is the first parental advisory I noticed on an album cover on this site. They are rarer nowadays even though they were everywhere in my youth. Turns out that's because they only started in 1990 and are (apparently) optional! -"If you have to ask, you'll never know" was actually in a Rugrats episode *before* this album came out, but you'd never know that if you google "where did this phrase come from". -I do like the Chilis, but this is not my favorite album of theirs. It's kinda samey, and too much with the funk-rap for me. Also, and maybe this is just because I'm desperately behind, it felt kinda long. I'm between a 3 and 4. Highlights: `The Righteous & the Wicked', 'Under the Bridge', 'Apache Rose Peacock' (I feel like if someone wrote a parody of a RHCP song it would be exactly this), 'They're Red Hot'

Hittade något nytt, men det bästa var det man hört innan

the instrumentals are consistently excellent—bass, drums, guitar are very well performed. Bass and guitar solos on “Naked in the Rain” are very good. But the compositions are uneven. Rap lyrics seem amateurish. Sex references, while ubiquitous, are exceedingly shallow, as if love making is a hobby. It seems to be in perpetual search of shock. Mindless lust is overrated. Has its cool moments.

It is funky, funny and the production is really thick. But this album didn't need to be this long, specially when there're a lot of forgettable songs.

Loved this when I was 13, not so much now

Some great stuff, some dubious. They probably could have cut a bunch of songs and made a pretty great album. They didn't.

Not their best

Actual 2 emotional 3

"Under The Bridge" is standing out here. The rest is more of the same songs.

This album seemed like a staple in the 90s for anyone into rock or metal but listening again now all I can think is, meh.

Good, but not my type of music

3 out of 5. Always an album I should have listened to by now but glad I finally did.

There were a couple of famous songs, but overall it's the normal Red Hot Chili Peppers sound throughout, so not too bad, especially as a background listen.

Never the biggest fan of the Chili Peppers. I recognize their importance to the music of that time and place. And feel like it should be right in my wheelhouse given my age. Just never really hit for me other than some of their hits.

Some great songs on this album.

Makes me wanna fuck.

They’re great. Love the mixture of funk, guitar rock, and rap.

listened to this a lot back in high school, not a bad ablum

Meh..not my jam.

The music is great but the song writing ... not the most challenging you'll ever hear. Great fun.

Didn’t listen very intently but I know it’s good

Too much chili

Solid rhcp album, has some classics on it

Some good tracks, naturally alongside some of inescapable nonsense you get with RHCP. As you get older you definitely notice it more. Still, a respectable 3.

This album just sort of happens. Nothing inspiring, just all of it is backgroundish. When he calls out the KKK in the first song it felt abit cringey. Then it just goes on to loads of typical RHCP filler. I enjoyed I Could Have Lied, that stood out abit, Nice also to hear where that ‘givitaway givitaway givitaway now’ comes from. Under the Bridge is obviously a banger but it feels tired when listening to the whole album for me. Didn’t dislike any of it really, just mehh.

It's a spasmodic funk nightmare. I thought they were the best band in the world when I was 15. They were obviously huge in pop culture in my teen years, featuring in Wayne's World soundtrack, having officer Doofy in their videos. It appealed to me in the same way Bloodhound Gang, American Pie films and WWF Divas did. Now it's a different story. I'm reminded of the Nick Cave quote “I'm forever near a stereo saying, 'What the fuck is this garbage?' And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.” Suck My Kiss, Give It Away and Under The Bridge stand out as decent pop rock songs, but the rest of the album lacks substance and their general sound grates on me. I hate the way they play their instruments, which includes Anthony's god awful vocal stylings. I'm going to bump them from 2 to 3 in tribute to my younger self and all of our younger selves.

Rick Rubin's impact is evident throughout "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," as he not only brings a sharper focus to the rock, funk, and hip-hop inspired tracks but also helped broaden the Red Hot Chili Peppers' musical style. The most notable difference is the embracing of softer/acoustic songs ("Breaking The Girl", "I Could Have Lied", "Under The Bridge"), which are some of the album's finest moments, along with high-energy tracks like "Suck My Kiss" and "Give It Away." While this was certainly their strongest album at the time (and perhaps, ever), my only criticism is that it feels a bit bloated with its 17 tracks. A few songs could have been left off to create a more cohesive listening experience. Nearly 35 years after its release, the album is still a very solid listen.

not my favourite RHCP album but it still has its moments. A decent enough listen. Rating: ⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎ (69/100)

some classics in there. enjoyable. 3/5

I was expecting more from RHCP having listened to some of their songs but this album only really had a couple of songs that I thought were excellent. The whole album was still a good listen though.

Songs i knew 2 Songs i liked 2 Other than "the songs" it just seemed to be Anthony singing about his dick. Classic artwork, never actually listened to this all the way through before. It's alright but less of the dick imagery please. High 3.

Breaking the Girl // Suck My Kiss // Give It Away // Under the Bridge // Sir Psycho Sexy // 3.5/5

Take away half the songs, and this would be a great record.

Early 90s me liked to this album. Unfortunately "Under the Bridge" got far too much airplay. Breaking the Girl was a good tune, as was Blood Sugar Sex Magic.

Not gonna lie! They had us in the first half, all nostalgic and funky, but then there's only so much dumb-assery one can take. By the time Apache Rose Peacock shows up... geesh!

A bunch of pretty nice songs, but ultimately, the album is heavily weighed down by the fact that it's way too damn long and not every song is a winner, far from it.

There’s a great 40 minute album here This album is not 40 minutes long Under the bridge and give it away are classics but man there’s a lot of juvenile filler

I had a hard time rating this album. It really falls between 3 and 4 stars for me, as it has some all time great songs e.g. Give It Away, Suck My Kiss, Breaking the Girl, and Under the Bridge. I also found I quite liked I Could Have Lied. But the other songs were too jagged and funky for me - I just don’t have that level of funk I think!

Pretty good, some bangers

Basically the definition of Jaunt Rock. It was not especially cool to like RHCP when I was a kid, but I do enjoy their music.

My favorite scene in Point Break is where Anthony Kiedis gets shot in the foot. While I appreciate the musical talents of the band, Anthony always seemed like a creep and I have always found his vocals annoying. Given his penchant for dating barely legal girls, I don't think I'll ever be a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan. Having said that, though, this was my first listen of this album in a long time. Musically, the band is tight. Flea's bass is the driving force for the whole album, but John Frusciante (only 21 at the time of this album's release) holds his own and then some on guitar. Lyrically, this album is for middle school kids and teenage douchebags. With lines like "Every woman has a piece of Aphrodite. Copulate to create a state of sexual light." it's easy to dismiss the album in it's entirety (not many songs swerve out of the lane of the title track in terms of theme). But, while I've already mentioned my disdain for Kiedis, but I do enjoy the message and can tolerate the vocals on "Power of Equality." Six stars. Mostly because the musicianship of the band. Anthony Kiedis is gross.

Phenomenal players, but the lyrics in most of the songs are just so stupid.

why was this over an hour omg . it could’ve been 30 minutes

Would liked to have given a 2.5 I think. A few good ones towards the end of the album

Not my favourite RHCP album but some great tracks

Under the bridge sticks out like a sore thumb in this album

I don't think I enjoyed this as much as I should have. Maybe I'll give it a re-listen later.

Not my favourite RHCP album, but most of the songs are great ones.

Liked this album, unfortunately just didn’t love it as much as I did Californiacation. This album feels a little more grunge which is fine on certain songs like on give it away but on some of the others that I wasn’t as familiar with, it just didn’t tickle my fancy. I was also shocked to see under the bridge on this album as that seems like a song they would’ve done later on in their career. It really didn’t seem to fit on this album and comes across kinda jarring when it finally comes up in the second half of the album. I kinda want to watch that documentary to see if they talk about that or if that was intentional or not.

3 Stars. I loved Californication but I don’t think this album was close to that level. Felt less polished and almost more of a Rage vibe for a lot of songs. Still good, but similar to some of the good 3 star albums that didn’t make 4 because they weren’t quite there.

Amazing energetic bass- and drum-play. Right in the face. Two outstanding tracks ("Under The Bridge", "Give It A Way") plus some more good ones ("Breaking The Girl", "Funky Monks"...) and pieces. Unfortunately the album can't hold that level consistently just because of it's lenght. Worst: "Sir Psycho Sexy" 3,5

This album gets real funky in places. Some lows of the album keep it to a 3.

I loved this album when I was a teen. everything about it brings nostalgia, but I feel like it doesn't hold up. not to say, that it isn't good, it's just to plain for me.

my tldr review: these guys are FREAKY!!! my actually review: i think many people hate on these guys which put me off of them for a long time, but i had fun listening to this. i probably wouldn’t come back to it that often, if at all, but objectively i enjoyed it. maybe the campiest straight-person album i’ve listened to. the lyrics don’t make a whole lot of sense, but i think that’s sort of the point, and it’s not something i’ve ever been bothered by. all that being said, i wouldn’t rate it higher than like... a 3.5. it’s extremely long; you could easily remove at LEAST 6 songs and the listening experience wouldn’t be tampered with in the slightest. many songs blend together at points, which caused disengagement from me at certain points during the runtime.

I honestly expected more from Red Hot Chili Peppers. I can put my finger on what makes most of their songs off..? However I will give this a big 3, not a 4 due to my disappointment and the off’ness of the music.

Way funkier than Californication, and also less consistent.

Not as good as Californication. Arguably Under the Bridge doesnt match the vibe of the rest of the album at all. Still solid

Music is great and although the vocals are unmistakably red hot chili peppers they're not pleasant for such a long project. Isolated songs from this album are 5/5s but as a whole it runs long.

Got this on cassette back in the day, cause there was all this hype about them. I never understood. Still don’t. This is too MTV 90s suburban rock for me. It’s mostly just alright.

Probably their best album. Unfortunately, market saturation makes it something I still don’t really appreciate.

Favourite songs: The Power Of Equality, Give It Away, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Under the bridge. Overral too repetitive.

Amazing base lines Little long

Nostalgia. But not really my jam anymore. Anthony kedis is…something

some cool stuff here and there but man that was a lot of RHCP to listen to

Funkier than I remember. Good jams, but inconsistent and starts to sound the same. Is this really something I needed to hear before I died?

# Album Name: Blood Sugar Sex Magik # Artist: RHCP # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Incredibly funky introduction to this album. Not bad sounds but very dubious hip hop style lyrics. It doesnt suit the band or Keides if im honest. Then it breaks out into Breaking the girl which is a great track. Theres great vocals and acoustics on this song. Suck my kiss is such a great funk tune. That bass is slapping! Probably the highlight of the funk feel for the band. Then it falls into could have lied. Such a great slow moving melody. The guitar work by john on this is ace. Wicked solo. Give it away, the finale of their funk triumph. 2 out of an album of about 14 aint bad....i guess. Honestly, ive always felt RHCP were not suited to their funk roots. They have the musical ability but the sound and lyrics arent there. Thats where tracks like breaking the girl and UTB stand out. Under the bridge is an absolute classic. No doubt about it. Sadly, this album is simply too fucking long. Come on, nearly 80 mins? shit man. Theres 5 really good tunes on this thing. Cut the album to a total of 10, maybe 11 tracks at a push and it would have been an easy 4 for me. Sadly theres about 10+ tracks bringing this thing down. I never thought id say it but its a 3 for me. It saddens me. Cos the tunes i love are really fucking good man. But theres too much dross on this. Too many funk fillers. Its like someone went shit, we need to fill up another 40 mins on this CD, what the fuck should we do?! Oh i know, lets add in lots of bang average tracks. Damn shame. I've seen the chilli's live a few times and its always been the later years which have stood close to my heart. I look forward to getting californication on the list. # Top Tunes: Breaking the girl / Suck my kiss / I could have lied / Give it away # Would I listen to it again? Only the top tracks.

Great energy, but not a lot of range.

Q lot of the songs felt exactly the same. Also very aggressive and horny at times. Still some bangers on here though

some true bangers on here (I Could Have Lied, Under The Bridge) but overall a bit more boring than some of their later albums imo

I've come to the opinion listening to this that RHCP are better when they're not doing their more funk rock numbers. Most song on this album are like that, and IDK it just gets a little annoying, plus the albums too long and has too much filler like material particularly towards the end.

6/10 Just way too long. You could take the singles out, or half of any of the non-single songs, and it would be easier to digest. But when it comes down to it, the chili peppers are some of the best musicians in the business and songs like Sir Psycho Sexy prove it. The moments where the instrumentals take over, or the few songs that aren’t just consistently loud, are welcome.

Californication was better

This album certainly has its place in musical history. It came out when I was in my third year of college. Heard it 1000 times. Made for a heavy partying 20 year old. But I just can’t get passed the annoyance & cockeyness of the Chili Peppers. Saw the Foo Fightets open for them when Foo had one album and they blew the RHCP away. I was actually embarrassed for them a bit. Giving it a 3 for its place in history, but it’s a stretch.

I enjoyed it overall. 3.5

good but I prefer their later albums

fire ngl

3/5 for mye rart mellom gullet

Never really got into this record

It’s a good album, but I am so sick of it… so maybe it’s not as good as I think it is.

The rapping in this album is awful but the instrumentation is nice

Give it away now! A few good songs and a lot of filler. 3/5

So much filler on this one

me cargan

-lol two Red Hot Chili Peppers albums in the span of two days on here… that’s crazy I haven’t had anything happen like that -This seems not to be the general consensus but I do think I prefer Californication… BSSM feels a bit bloated, but it does have some super fun and interesting sounds. I like the white guy rap influence tbh -Favorites are If You Have To Ask, Suck My Kiss, and Under The Bridge

senza infamia e senza lode

Bravini, apprezzo che spazino un po’ di generi nel corso dell’album

More funk-oriented, weird, and sex-obsessed than "Under the Bridge" would lead you to believe. "Suck My Kiss" and "Give It Away" are better representations of this album. Most of it isn't really my thing (at 73 minutes, it could use some editing), but there's definitely a lot of energy. Highlights: "Breaking the Girl" (jangly goodness with nice vocal harmonies), "I Could Have Lied" (stripped down rhythm swction, nice melodic guitar work), "Under the Bridge" (way overplayed, but it's a classic)

While this has some great songs and some of my favorite RHCP songs, I also could do without about half of the album.

Probably the best of the Peppers' work. Lots of good funky rockers here, pierced in the middle by "Under the Bridge," which is the turd in the punchbowl. But you can't argue with the riffage in Suck My Kiss, the title cut, and Sir Psycho Sexy. A fun listen if you skip #11.

Blood sugar baby, she magik Sex magik, Sex magik

This album is truly a variety pack of multiple different genres and I didn't enjoy quite a few of the songs like Give It Away and Suck My Kiss

-Breaking The Girl, worth a second listen -I Could Have Lied, sexy little guitar solo midsong from John F. -Some songs/lyrics are overly horny rockstar, Sir Sexy Psycho literally says semen

Good mix of genres, but a lot of tracks could have been avoided, there is a definite variety of quality

I bought this on vinyl at the time, because the videos for Under The Bridge and Breaking The Girl were on heavy rotation on MTV; I bought into the whole vibe and am still fond of the Chilis. UTB is a huge, deserved classic and I liked the other singles, but for some reason, I've neglected to return to the rest of the album. Listening now, I think that's because I'm less keen on shouty/stompy Chilis, and more keen on melodic Chilis. The balance is better for me personally on Californication and By The Way, both of which would/will probably get 5 stars. But this is still very good: Flea and Frusciante always create Magik of a sort. See what I did there. Good to rediscover a couple more for my Chilis playlist but (whispers) I'd have preferred this as a single album, I suspect, without a few of the dafter and/or noisier tracks.

Good funky RHCP sound, but unnecessarily drawn out. The good tracks don't carry enough to make up for it.

Klassiker. Några riktigt stabila låtar, men också en del rätt trötta spår.

"Now, boys... the network has a problem with some of your lyrics. Would you mind changing 'em for the show?" "Forget you, clown." "Hey, our lyrics are like our children, man. No way." "Well, okay. But here, where you say, 'What I got, you gotta get and put it in you,' how about just, "What I'd like is I'd like to hug and kiss you'?" "Wow! That's much better. Everyone can enjoy that."

I appreciate to find this very album as the RHCP's first in this list. I love Under the Bridge and loved hard rock riffs and rythms, although I prefer later albums

Yeah, Blood Sugar Sex Magik is great. I bet every bassist has this Red Hot Chili Peppers phrase, or whatever you call it. You know, funk rock is not typically my thing, but I can't think of a reason not to show some respect to this one band and album. I'm not here for anything other than the basslines anyway. 3.5/5

If you have to ask you'll never know.

This was totally my jam in 1991, but it feels a bit dated now. Still some fun tracks that show the versatility of RHCP.

I don't mind listening to it, but it just feels like radio music. Mid.

A wild funk-rock fever dream. Anthony Kiedis is either singing/white rapping about love, lust, California, or all three. The instrumentals are always tight, with amazing work done by each member. While I could criticize Keidis’ vocals to no end, he delivers some of his best on here, along with the rest of the band. Not one of my tops, but a sure highlight for RHCP. Also, my guilty pleasure song will always be “Suck My Kiss.”

Never really into them. 2 classic songs

bestu lögin eru fín. en þetta er alltof langt og kiedes er vangefinn.

Occasionally good, too many songs, Mr bungle are better

I have listened to a lot of RHCP throughout the years and they have a lot of songs I really like. Not every song is my favourite on this album but the songs that are great already have their place in my playlists.

This album hasn't aged well. It's not terrible. There are still some good songs on here and the musicianship is solid. But the lyrical content and the faux rapping is very much stuck in the early 90s. That said, it does bring back some good memories so I give it a pass. It would have been higher in the 90s though.

would be great instrumental album

The highs are high, but overall feels like they could have cut this down to a 12 song album and made it a masterpiece.

Never been a fan but was a solid album

Fun for a while, with a few particularly good tracks - the best example being Under the Bridge. Unfortunately, the album gets boring and repetitive far too quickly for its ~75 minute run time.

Great bass and great drumming! This was a bit too long for me but I enjoyed it. 3.5/5

Surprisingly torn on this one. I remember this album fondly, but here were my thoughts - First few songs terrible - Used to not like suck my kiss, but it is a good song actually. gets to the core of their funk sound that I like. - too bad the rest of the album sounded exactly like that - with the exception of under the bridge which is an obvious masterpiece

Enjoyable album.

Listen, take like 3 or 4 songs and then leave this sh t. I don't get the hype of this album.

After a while Keidis' "whoop-hap-gap-plop" lyrics get a bit annoying.

Two good tracks. Funky though.

A really good album for rock lovers, not for me though.

Give It Away and Under The Bridge are great songs. Rest ok 3/5

Dan - Listened to a lot of the songs as a teenager, with the album reminiscent of that time. Probably moved on from this music now

Ah, Blood Sugar Sex Magik. I listened to quite a bit of the Chili Peppers when I was younger, and this was actually the first album with a parental advisory label that I ever bought (I bought it in 2003 when I was 18 and didn't need my parents' permission). I think I've only listened to this album from start to finish one time, but I know the singles on this album really well (as I'm sure most people do). I've already reviewed Californication, which I thought was fine. I have a feeling that I'm going to feel the same way about this album, which makes me a little sad. The Chili Peppers seem to get a lot of hate from people my age these days, and I hate to jump on that bandwagon, but I fear my tastes have changed a bit from my adolescence. I guess there's only one to find out if I'm turning into an old man who hates fun... Well, Red Hot Chili Peppers don't really scratch any itches for me these days. Is Blood Sugar Sex Magik culturally significant and worthy of being on this list? Without a doubt. But listening to over seventy minutes of these guys is not my idea of a good time. This album is good, but it's also a bit of a mess and a chore to get through. There are some great moments on it, but there's also a lot of repetitiveness. Flea's bass lines are great, but Kiedis's vocals didn't take long to wear me down, nor did the more nonsensical lyrics. As much as I don’t care for the album as a whole, most of the singles from it are great. “Give It Away,” “Under The Bridge,” and “Breaking The Girl” are fantastic, and “If You Have to Ask” is pretty good too. Other than the bass line and drum fills, I can’t stand “Suck My Kiss,” which is far and away the worst single from the album. “Give It Away” is an absolute blast and the best track on the album (but by a slim margin); the lead and bass guitar parts are fantastic, and Kiedis’s vocal style is the perfect fit for this song’s infectious energy. “Breaking The Girl” is the second best track on the album, but by the slimmest of margins. The Mellotron really gives the sound a haunting depth, but the drum fills give it a groove that makes it still fit in on the album. “Under The Bridge” is great too. I love the guitar playing during the intro, the lyrics are great, and the soft percussion rounds out the mellow sound really well. Other than the singles, the other songs that I really liked were “Funky Monks” and “I Could Have Lied.” While I’m not a big fan of this album, the best parts of it are great, and I think it’s pretty good from an objective standpoint. It deserves its place on this list, but I can’t see myself firing up the whole album again.

what up with all the hate on this one, i enjoyed it

Not my favorite rhcp album but it has some pretty big songs on here. The rest is ok though. A solid 3 or 3.5

Another band I find the singles better than the albums as a whole. Great grooves and rhythms but I find Kiedis' vocals annoying. Still a very good album, just not what I'd call great.

A lot of variety on the album, some good some not as much. “Funk rock” element to the songs works well in some places, gets a little tiresome in others. Lyrics very hit or miss as well. Overall more good than bad I think. Breaking the Girl is a great song.

This album could be a Beastie Boys album if they were from LA & had a bit of talent.

3 stars for Under The Bridge

I’m generally not too crazy about RHCP, but this record has raised my impression of them a bit. Certainly a couple of classics on this record paired with a few other songs I never heard before that caught my attention. The vocals/lyrics are bit off-putting to me for a few songs, but it’s mostly the instrumentals from the band that keep my drawn in. Decent record overall. Favorite track: Blood Sugar Sex Magik

This was pretty enjoyable. They definitely have a distinctive sound.

Fine. Obvious classics, some that bored me.

Too long considering it's essentially the same song for 90% of it. Vocals are always the same rhythmically and tonally. Yes they have a good bassist, but the other lads are overrated. I've a good it's 2.5 but I'll give a 3 by a tiny margin.

I actually adore RHCP for their instrumentals, the bass, guitar and drum work is sublime on most songs. Unfortunately the lyricism falls way short, and just comes across as “I’m 14 and this is deep”. Which probably explains why 14 year old me loved them. 33 year old me though….meh. 3/5 — Would be lower but salvaged by the instruments

Börjar bra men blir sämre mot slutet. Finns material för ett väldigt starkt 40min långt album här. Bästa låten: I Could Have Lied

Hay mejores de rhcp

I’ve heard this album a bunch growing up and loved under the bridge but don’t like as much now as an adult.

An album that I listened to in high school. This was really different when it came out and at my high school the more edgy kids were into this and Primus. It's not bad but I don't think I need to hear the whole album. The hit songs are still good even though I have heard them tons of times.

This one is tough to rate. There are two or three songs I really enjoyed, but it seemed like they went for quantity over quality here. Most of the tracks are formulaic and lost my interest pretty quick.

Definitely a unique album at the time it came out. Some good tunes, some forgettable ones. What strikes me, and maybe I'm biased because I'm listening with a cold on the couch, is how nervous and uneven this album feels.

Tiene algunos hits definitivos de los 90, pero vaya que no ha envejecido bien. Digo, musicalmente está perfecto, pero las letras... Uff. Para adolescentes y no es un halago.

++: Give It Away, Under the Bridge, The Greeting Song, They're Red Hot +: The Power of Equality, If You Have to Ask, Breaking the Girl, Mellowship Slinky in B Major, The Righteous & the Wicked, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Naked in the Rain, Apache Rose Peacock, My Lovely Man +-: Funky Monks, Suck My Kiss, I Could Have Lied, Sir Psycho Sexy 6,9/10

Some great moments but overall sort of annoying.

Album definitely drags in the middle, but still solid. It could’ve benefited from cutting a few tracks.

I know I’ve listened to this before and liked it. But I didn’t this time. Some of the songs are god awful and cringe and go on for way too long. The singles that came from this are the best parts. “Breaking The Girl” and “Under The Bridge” are 5 star songs. RHCP’s late 90s/early 2000s stuff is a lot stronger than this.

Not bad, RHCP has a pretty consistent sound and identity throughout their albums, which leads to some melding to their albums. Pretty fun however! 3.1

Hits and misses for me but overall good

This might be too much RHCP for some people and that's totally understandable. This is undoubtedly one of their better works though, as the group embraces their funk roots whilst entering the alt rock era of the early 90's. Also their lewdest album, for better or for worse. Despite the latter point, some of their biggest singles make an appearance here; including "Give It Away" and "Suck My Kiss". But my personal favorite track of theirs doesn't follow their traditional sound and song structure, that being the vulnerable and soft "Under the Bridge". Almost odd that it is featured on this album when you think about it. With all of that being said, fatigue does set in at a certain point on this album, namely after track 12. The highs are high, but the flaws rear their ugly head a few times throughout.

Tiresome after a couple of tracks

the name carries alot of weight but not really a fan of this one at all 3/5. some songs were almost unbearable some were so average. under the bridge was a banger though

While I can instantly recognize why this is considered Red Hot Chili Peppers' best work, with multiple iconic tracks, amazing, funky instrumentation, and Anthony Kiedis at his zaniest, it only seems natural that this album is their most well regarded. However, I can't shake the feeling throughout the whole album (save for Under the Bridge) that I'm listening to a questionable imitation of many other funk rock greats. They pull it off well, and while many songs feel pretty similar, it still is a solid album, but I'm still uncomfortable choosing this over your Funkadelics of the world, or, Hell, even Faith No More. This album just doesn't feel genuine, as if rather than pulling from their inspirations, they are just appropriating them instead. I doubt that was the intention, as the 90s is rampant with much more explicit acts of stealing from much more solid acts from decades prior, but even on songs I like such as Give It Away, where Flea has created one of the most iconic basslines in alt-rock history, does the album fail to sit right with me. What I do know is that the album is too long, and I don't like it enough to see past the weird energy it gives off, but on the surface this is alright. I'm sure sure many a college frat boy love it.

Hyvää musisointia, upeita klassikkobiisejä myös. Niiden ulkopuolelta jäi vähemmän mieleen, kaipaisi lisäkuunteluja.

Never been a RHCP fan, just based off the hits on the radio. Finally listening to a full album I've started to see the appeal; or at least why they're so popular. There's some quality funky grooves on this record. My real issues with it stem from songs feeling same-y, way too many corny, sexual lyrics, and this album is way, way too long. If this record finished at Under the Bridge (which would work great as an album finisher) you'd have a solid album of funk rock. Instead it goes on nearly another thirty (!!) minutes. Pretty excessive for what this is, in my opinion.

Meh. A very average RHCP album. Not a fan of Kiedis' voice so I'm biased.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik, once a gateway to alternative music for many, feels somewhat overrated in hindsight. Musically, the album is solid, featuring Flea's innovative bass lines and John Frusciante's eclectic guitar work, which blend funk, rock, and punk elements seamlessly. The ballads on the album, like Under the Bridge and Breaking the Girl are undeniably strong and showcase the band's softer side with emotional depth. However, Anthony Kiedis' vocal style, particularly his scat styled singing, can feel limited and repetitive at times. While his energetic delivery works on tracks like Give It Away and Suck My Kiss, it lacks the versatility needed to sustain the album's length and variety. Now, with a more critical ear, some of the album's charm has worn off, and its flaws are more apparent. The production by Rick Rubin is polished, but this sheen can't fully mask the limitations in the vocal delivery and lyrical content. Even though it remains a pivotal work in the Red Hot Chili Peppers' discography but might feel more nostalgic than ground-breaking today. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 4 STAND OUT TRACK - Breaking the Girl

Has some good songs on it.

A lot of not so great songs. Don’t care for a lot of the lyrics. Would have given it a 2 if not for Breaking the Girl and Under the Bridge.

Liked a few songs I haven’t heard of before. Still like the hits

This was pretty solid for its length. I don’t think it needed to be this long but I was entertained enough. There’s a lot worse then this but there’s also a lot that’s just more thought-provoking. Still quite impressed.

this has the makings of a 4 but i feel a 3 is most appropriate. some good songs on here, but just as much filler imo

Great!

Some great hits but most tracks I could NOT stand the vocals / lyrics. Incredible instrumentals, though. Breaking the Girl is my personal favorite.

I had to struggle through the album, but since I've heard worse albums on this list, I'm still giving it 3 stars.

The rhythm section is pretty damn good, but besides that, and the nostalgia element, there’s not much here to enjoy.

I loved RHCP as a 15-year-old, so I was excited to relisten. Unfortunately, I must once again scorn the taste of my teenage self - how did I not hear what I hear now? This album is way too discordant, way too long, and some of the lyrics are just childish. The guitar, bass, drums etc are very good but that damn singing is so grating ha. Didn't love Suck My Kiss or Give It Away as much as I remembered. (Though I liked Under The Bridge still.)

I like the RHCP when they are Chili Peppers and less red hot. The punk and hip hop components I think consistently come off terrible. Under the Bridge is such an obvious outlier from the rest of the bunch. There are bits here where they just play a cool blend or rock and other bits where the repetition is horribly grating. Blood sugar sex magik a notable song that I hate and they name the album after it. They really thought they had something there. As a whole I think RHCP put most of their eggs in the basket of their shouty "rapping" and I dont like it. I like their softer stuff like off californiacation.

There was a time when the chili peppers were considered good and. It just Anthony Keidis’s California boop we doop skabadaboo band, and it probably started with this album. Make no mistake that it has plenty of that shit on it but they had plenty of good ones on here too. You can’t talk about this band or this album without mentioning Flea and the bass work, which is as usually one of a kind and expertly fitted in to the music. The opening track is a perfect example; it’s a completely bass driven track and it works. The singles on here are classics. Hard to dispute that but I’ve heard them so many times that I ended up skipping them. As for the less played songs I liked “power of equality” and “naked in the rain” the most. The rest were fine I guess. I really can’t deal with the goofy lyricisms and Kiedis’s voice as an adult. My hot take is that One Hot Minute is the Chili Peppers best album even though everyone hates it.

"Under the Bridge" is still good, and I suppose so is "Breaking the Girl", but some of the other songs haven't stood the test of time nearly as well.

Sure it's funky, but the Chili Peppers are not my idea of a "great" band.

June 20 2025 igual 1. Aggressive intro, not cool to me, weak chorus, skipped. 2. Not memorable. Cool solo! Liked justin 3. Liked it a lot. Can see my siblings vibing to it! Liked. 4. Funky indeed, bien calidát! Like a lot 5. Never a big fan of SuckMyKiss 6. Liking a lot! 7. No muy buena 8. Cool one again! 9. Give It Away, I mean... 10. Nope 11. You know it, amazing 12. Meh 13. Nothing major to me, good chorus tho! 14. Nope 15. My Lovely Man, me gustó, good todo! 16. Entretenida, not bad. Coolcita. Arrecho el bridge. 17. WTF, no.

It's the RHCP. Funky pop rock frat boy songs. Songs that conjour images of socks on cocks, shotgunning beer, high fiving your bro and date rape. You know the drill. Their formula hasn't changed here. It makes you feel sleazy just listening to it - and that's not a good thing. Fruscianti rules though. Best Tracks: Give it Away; Under the Bridge; Sir Psycho Sexy

I own this album, so this isn't new to me. And it was the last album of theirs I bought, as it signaled (to me) their turn away from a distinctive and fun style to a more mainstream sound that just didn't do much for me. I don't know if Hillel Slovak was the magic glue that made them so great--I wasn't a big fan of "Mother's Milk" either--but this album has so much filler and few good songs, and too much similarity among the better songs/hits like "If you have to ask", "Suck my kiss", "Give it away" or even "Sir psycho sexy". "Under the bridge" is a great song, though, and the video for "Breaking the girl" is mesmerizing, although the song itself isn't at all compelling. Their descent into a kind of uninteresting blandness is a shame, too, given that they had John Frusciante on this album (and the previous album), and he's done some interesting stuff in his solo work, and also ironic that this album was released at the same time as Nirvana's "Nevermind"--a similarly breakthrough moment for two bands with very different trajectories (and weird too that Nirvana and Pearl Jam opened for the Chili Peppers for part of this album's tour). It just kind of feels like the Chili Peppers terminated at a type of boring frat rock with a lot of bass at this point, and worse yet the album had the effect (and still does) of making me feel less enthusiastic with their earlier albums. Even worse, I just discovered that the only other Red Hot Chili Peppers album in this collection is the much later "Californication"; what a shame that we're not getting their better stuff like "Uplift mofo party plan" or "Freaky styley"....

A few decent songs, but still not a fan. 2 stars for the decent songs and an extra 1 for Fleas bass playing.

Not as good as I remember Still a handful of good tracks on it though

Overall a consistent sound that goes some interesting places, however I find it pretty tedious. I still really like Under the Bridge, but the rest of it isn't really for me. A 3 for consistency, I can tell it's achieving what it's trying to do. I got quite sick of it after a while though.

Bass, drums and guitar on pooointt. But the voicee, man! Noopee

Occasionally interesting rap-rock

I remember enjoying this mixture of Funk, Rock and Rap when it first came out—now, having not listened to it for decades, it does sound quite ‘samey’ so it could do with trimming a bit. As it stands, it feels too long to maintain peak interest over its entire runtime.

I liked the song I Could Have Lied and Suck My Kiss

A little plodding but has a fairly distinct sound for a debut. Lots of good jams in the middle. Mixing rock, funk, psychedelics, 90's buzz ballads. Definitely listen to the singles. They get better as they go along.

A good listen but a bit long

As usual when it comes to this band, there are some real gems buried under a ton of the samey-sounding, signature Red Hot Chilli Peppers crap. The album is quite funky and mostly easy to get through—if you pretend some of the lyrics don't exist—but it all blends together due to the overwhelming amount of filler they somehow managed to cram into it. It's why I've never been able to listen to a Peppers album front to back—I'd rather collect all of my favourite songs of theirs on a playlist rather than listen to stuff like 'Suck my kiss' or 'Funky Monks' ever again. 3 stars

Not my favorite of theirs

Men några riktigt sköna låtar.

A few great tracks. But longer than it needed to be. Would enjoy it more with some of the filler removed.

Some good tunes, not all bangers

If a venereal disease made an album.

It's surprising how transgressive music was before wokeism.

very funky. a little too funky for me

Some good songs, some bad songs, average overall.

GOD FUCKIN DAMN IT. I knew this one would come up at some point. I loved this in high school back in the 1900’s, but it hasn’t held up. The hits were HUGE, but the rest of this album is filler. Funky stuff sure, but it’s a LOT. The lore behind the recording of this is actually more interesting than the record itself. A lot of the lyrics are shitty juvenile nonsense but then you have Breaking The Girl thrown at you and it’s like WTF WAS THAT lol. This is basically a horny frat boy record, without a lot of variation in sound. This was also their biggest record and they established themselves as rock stars for it. I don’t hate it but it did grate on my nerves after about 40 minutes. Listen at your own risk lol.

Great music, spoiled as always by Anthony Kiedis lyrics and vocals. It also goes on for 20 minutes too long. 5/10

A lovely red with notes of Maggot Brain and Metallica along with an infusion of California nonsense. Legs for days. This is when they became the Chili Peppers we all know and love. A great blend of emotionality, levity, hard style and soft development. Maybe didn't need to be a double album, but it's got a lot of good qualities

excellent

Full of great songs that sent RCHP to the mainstream. Good stuff that unfortunately goes too long. Everything beyond Under the Bridge could be cut and nothing would be lost.

If ska music is the sound of a group of 13 year old boys ordering mozzarella sticks, then RHCP is the soundtrack to those same boys spending a day at the waterpark. From the perspective of a craftsman, I won’t deny that this album is incredibly well made. From a “playing” perspective, from a flow perspective, and from a mixing perspective (thank god). If you like this extremely ‘90s blend of genre mishmash, then Blood Sugar Sex Magik has everything you could want – a little bit of grunge, a little bit of funk, a little bit of balladry, a little bit of hard rock. Unlike the insufferable mixing or pivots of Californication, this is very well-made, and not a fully painful listen. Grading on a scale, it’s worth the spin. But the thing about RHCP is this: either you like their shtick, or you don’t. And BSSM is a *lot* of that shtick. And while the singles are so ingrained in my brain from my youth that I can’t help but to at least appreciate them (although I’m less supportive of “Under the Bridge”), the rest of the album is a little more intense – more RHCP, and a lot more shtick. So if you, like me, only tolerate these singles when they come on the radio, then you’re going to have a tough time with this in its entirety. No level of technical proficiency is that appealing. To me, while not painful, BSSM is an exhausting listen. And that’s maybe an even greater hurdle to overcome as a listener. By the end, even if I nodded my head to more of this album, I was so overwhelmed by the RHCP’s muchness that I felt even more upset than I was after finishing Californication. Ultimately, for me, I find RHCP to be a singles band, where I’m able to appreciate them in small digestible doses. And as a result, there’s always at least some decent cuts in any RHCP album. Compared to other RHCP albums, the ratio of good songs is greater than bad songs on BSSM, but like all other RHCP albums I’ve heard, it’s still far below the threshold of what I would personally classify as “good.” That said, I am completely okay with being on the list and can see the argument if someone told me it was their favorite album ever, unlike, say, Californication, which should only be on this list to show what a bad yet influential album sounds like.

The most Red Hot Chili Peppers Red Hot Chili Peppers album. Flea slapping on the bass, Frusciante pumping in sweet melodies, Anthony Kiedis singing about his penis. It has some of their best songs (Under the Bridge, I Could have Lied) mixed with some of their most annoying (Apache Rose Peacock, If You Have to Ask). It has Sir Psycho Sexy which is both one of their best and one of their most annoying (that police woman verse…Jesus Christ). Ultimately, while the Chili Peppers are iconic and world-famous from Flea and AK, their best music comes straight from Frusciante’s genius. This album has some songs that feature John heavier and those are the good ones. The others sound like Flea and AK on a drug bender and, while those songs can be fun, they sound like shit.

Really sets the stage of what the Chili Peppers will become. While Breaking the girl, Give it away, and Under the Bridge are all super popular they really are great songs that have that chili pepper sound. I enjoy this album. Run time is a little long with some misses but generally pretty solid

3.5. Without flea laying it down this might just be a very annoying rap rock album

Pretty good, like their later albums more though

Good album. I've never been able to "understand" RHCP, but I've, of course, heard their music constantly growing up. I liked this one enough, but it felt long and there is a certain quality of the band that is off-putting to me and I cannot articulate why. The arrangements are cool and I enjoy the more ballad-y songs ("I Could Have Lied" and "Under the Bridge"), but I get a little irritated by the funk, SoCal alternative rock-rap stuff. The album is good overall (if not a bit bloated), but I'm unable to kick my bias. This could've been much better if 10-12 songs and 40-ish minutes. ***

I knew and loved Under the Bridge. Also added Apache Rose Peacock to my faves playlist. Otherwise this was just meh for me.

Thought I would like this more than I did. Some decent songs but a lot of it sounded similar. Seems like this album would be better in a live performance.

You shouldn’t be allowed to be this horny and this weird

John Frusciante and Flea are the stars of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anthony Keidis might get the attention as the flamboyant frontman, but his rapped singing can be really hit or miss. RHCP are at their best when they are funkiest or contemplative. “The Power of Equality” is neither of those, and “If You Have to Ask” only gets worse. But then “Breaking the Girl” delivers the band at their peak. Later “I Could Have Lied” proves to be an underappreciated gem, but “Suck My Kiss” and others expose Keidis’ obnoxious predilection for edgy lewdness. Meanwhile, “Give It Away” is such a classic, and at the same time also terrible. How can a song be that bad and that good at the same time? Sometimes that feels like RHCP in a nutshell. I recently ran into a discussion of which band was bigger - RHCP or Pearl Jam. As a huge Pearl Jam fan, I had to begrudgingly acknowledge that the clear answer is RHCP. “Blood Sugar Sex Magic” and “Ten” are pretty comparable, both released in 1991, both huge hits and very influential. But the bands took two different directions later in the 90s. Pearl Jam eschewed stardom, while RHCP dove right in. They got poppier and hookier, and don’t get me wrong, had some great results. “Californication” and “Stadium Arcadium” had the band reigning things in, less edgy and lewd, and more of the aforementioned contemplative slower grooves. I think the obnoxiousness on this album was effectively toned down in their later work and merged with their more restrained stifled maturity. Gonna go find out. Never wrote the review for “Californication” over 500 albums ago.

A classic of my youth but not one that I was ever particularly enamored by

Frusciante's style and solos are top notch on this album. Flea's use of space and lack of slapping is appreciated. There's just too many damn songs and that brings the quality down.

didn't quite finish this one, but that wasn't intentional. It's crazy how much I hate the singing style and how much I love the rest of the band. The band absolutely grooves, but the rap singing and lyrics from Kiedis is so embarrassing all the time. I might kinda ironically like this, and if I got used to the singing, I feel like I would unironically like this.

Gets a star cause of the bass

You know, I’ve tried to listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. My dad said he thought I’d like them. I do like them. I’d even go to their concert. But, nothing (except their hits) really stand out to me. This is what I’m talking about. I feel left out- I want to love them. I want to be a Pepperhead, a Bell Pepper, a Red Hot, but it’s just not in the cards and for that I’m sorry.

Funky blanco, alguna buena canción.

There's some really good songs but the album kinda wears on me. Favourites are Power of Equality, Suck My Kiss, and Give It Away.

Takes me back to Rock Band in university. There are moments on this album where you can hardly tell the song has changed they're so similar. But there are also a couple gems like Under the Bridge and Breaking the Girl.

very strong start but drags after a bit

Some highs, some lows. Overall meh

Wanted to give it a4 but this is my least favorite rhcp album

Not the best RHCP album but under the bridge is an outstanding tune.

It’s an excessively long collection of some often boring funk rock, layered with a few very enjoyable stand-outs. It does what lots of other funk rock and rap rock bands do, but slightly worse. It’s just… alright rock, aside from genuine enjoyability in Suck My Kiss, Mellowship Slinky in B Major and the title track.

It's a fun album overall. The hits are hits for a reason. And the non-hits are basically slightly worse versions of the hits bc this whole album sounds the same!

It's cringe, it's too long, but musically it's enjoyable.

The worst RHCP album IMO, but the closest to British post punk, so it’s the one included in this list. At least the album includes “under the bridge,” the only song that stands out.

Ok so here's the thing. This album is an expriance. Is it a good one? Not necessirlly. but if you go in with a bit of humour and sillyness , I promice it's worth all the disgusting sextual refrences and the cringy whit-boy rapping ! 1. " My lily white ass is tickled pink When i listen to the music that makes me think" 2. 1/5. Honstly it deserves a 0 but it's just so stupid i gotta give them one just for being so real. Like my guy is stupid and he knows it. 4. No. No. Absloutly not. Don't do funk. Don't do that accent. No. 0/5 5. Worst written song so far. And that's saying a lot 6. Um... it's actually kinda nice? Which is quit disturbing 8. Thier First boring one 9. MASTERPICIE. I do not care what anyone says. This song is an absloute masterpiese 13. 'Apache rose peacoc' is so rhcp to me. It's bad and then it's good and then it's bad again and then there is a not-casual mention of kiedis's dick aaand we're back to counfusing political commentry. It's weird as fuck and i love it. 16. *****Deep inside the garden of Eden Standing there with my hard on bleedin' There's a devil in my dick and some demons in my semen Good God no that would be treason Believe me Eve she gave good reason Botty looking too good not to be squeezin'***** ****Hello young woman that I love Pretty punk rock mama that I'm thinking of Hold me naked if you will **** 5/5

Alright.

fun album way too long though, really dragging on by the end mayb 7/10

There's definitely some fun and even endearing tracks to be found on here, the novelty of it begins to wear off by the second-half as it many of the tracks drag on for a bit too long (looking at you"Sir Psycho Sexy") and the lyrical content is essentially nothing more but about sex and drugs and whatnot even with the quirky vocal performances of Anthony Kiedis.

Вся хип-хоповая часть альбома неплоха, особенно Suck my Kiss и Give it away, но все остальное -- полный шлак.

Lol, rhcp aren't as good as I remembered

This actually felt really bland. Would’ve been rated even lower if it didn’t have Under the Bridge on it. Idk. The plays on nursery rhymes, the obsession with Flea, it felt cheesy.

There's enough, bounce, hop and funk on this to make you think they're channeling the Parliaments. Liked a couple songs, but the general sound is all much the same - not a great variety of tones.

This is my first time ever listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I liked some of the songs quite a bit actually. I would have given it four stars but it's just so long. -1 star due to length. Three stars.

RHCP's sound is interesting enough: a groovy mix of funk, rock, and even hiphop. This album is definitely their most defining. Full of energy and funk, despite the dullness at most moments. The 2 or so hits are awesome, but the rest of the 70+ minute trip is slighly boppy at their best.

Never heard this record before, only the odd song. It's a tight, solid record overall, if quite sonically similar and perhaps a bit too long. The first half is definitely more solid to me. Not a fan of Kiedis' silly sexual lyrics, but it was the early 90s. Favourite tracks: The Power of Equality, If You Have to Ask, Breaking the Girl, Funky Monks, Suck My Kiss, I Could Have Lied, Mellowship Slinky in B Major, Give It Away, Under the Bridge.

Not gonna be my favourite album, but it was okay. It has 'Under the Bridge', which drags it to a middle 3.

I love the Under the Bridge song

One of the very first records I've owned as a child. Haven’t really listend to them since, so nice little trip down memory lane

Another mediocre album. Lots of songs kind of dragged on without going anywhere… I’d probably not listen again, but nothing was truly bad.

Standard Chili Peppers

Kiedis’s Law: there must be two Suck My Kisses for every Under the Bridge

This album is good, but mostly due to it's hits. The sequencing of the album is abysmal - it sounds more akin to a collection of singles than a whole experience (The Power of Equality is about the most boring opening track). The hits are fantastic, of course, and make the album. All in all, could have been better, but the music is good across the board for the most part. 3/5.

Other than the hits, most of these songs bleed together and sound like a bar band. The basslines hit, but the rest sounds so similar it was hard to get through.

Całkiem przyjemne ale bez szału, może 2 super piosenki, a reszta normalna. 3/5

Good album

Loved this at the time, detest everything they've done since. Extra star for nostalgia, knew every word but a tough listen.

I've never listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers before, and i think i liked it. It has one of the sexiest base i've ever listen.

I like a lot of the sounds on here, like the crisp drums and pretty much all the bass tones. It's good funk rock! Just a lot of the funk rock songs sound kinda samey after an hour of material. The less funky songs (like Under the Bridge) I find pretty dull. Also Anthony Kiedis is pretty obnoxious, and like ZZ Top's vocalist he's trying way too hard to sound Black.

Talented musicians making good music but it’s just not for me. The singles are good. I get why it’s popular but I can’t listen to this too much

Big fan of the Red Hots. I loved Mother’s Milk and I also loved this album until the radio played it to death. Then I got sick of it and if I never hear it again, that’s ok.
