This Melodies were indeed lazer guided

Very mellow

Difficult to decide for this album. On the side spiritual, meditational, somehow very nice. On the other side a bit boring, but maybe simply needs to listen to it a few times.

It’s okay

like the music, love the cover

Not really as immediately catchy or awe-inspiring as the Ladies and Gentlemen... album. I would say this one is quite a bit more ambient and therefore kind of just meanders through many of the songs for 6-7 mins. 5/10

This isn’t a patch on the other record we’ve had. I quite like it, but nothing really stands out. Theyve got a cool sound that just gets milked each track, whereas the other record felt like they pushed things more. Its ok, but not essential

Have enjoyed both the spiritualized albums we've had so far, didn't think this one was quite as good. Very atmospheric again. Enjoyed having it on in the background while working. Probably didn't listen closely enough to give a proper rating. But 3 at least

Spacey indie rock. Definitely a vibe album. Fortunately I happened to listen to this album driving by myself late at night in the rain, and it fit perfectly. Most of the songs were fine, but the final song on the album literally had a woman counting from one to a hundred in the background and it made me feel like I was losing my mind.

6/10. Pleasant, but not the best thing ever.

Interesting

3/5 - I remember this era. Walls of cool sound but they didn’t age well I don’t think

Pretty good if in the right mood Standout songs Step into the Breeze Take your time 200 Bars

If anything, a very musically consistent album. Every track has soft, semi-psychedelic vocals overlaying a thick and emotion-laden instrumental, with a guitar playing a repeating two-bar melody over various chords that work well with the melody (mostly I/i and IV/iv). It's cool, though once you figure out the trick, all the tracks start to blur into one another. In terms of specific tracks, Shine a Light is the strongest, despite also being the longest. It's positive, dreamy, vibey... somehow without overstaying its welcome. But on the topic of overstaying welcomes, let's talk about 200 Bars. The best thing I can say about this track is that it's experimental. Until now, I've never heard a song whose lyrics (half of them) are spent counting which bar we're up to, like a lousy band director. And the backing - Spiritualized's signature I-IV-I-IV repeat - isn't anything particularly inspiring. These two songs represent the best and the worst of the album, and the whole track list balances out at a fair 3/5. 3/5 Key tracks: You Know It's True, Run, Shine a Light, Sway

This was good background music. Probably wouldn't play it for any other reason.

A good album to put on while reading a book, as it's too barely-there to ever be an intrusion on your concentration. Not unpleasant background sound

I'd say Spiritualized didn't hit their peak until "Ladies and Gentleman" but this is nice dream pop / psychedelic indie. They create some lush sounds and it's super relaxing

So this is "space rock" or "drone rock" ? The Wikipedia quote of what "Critic Simon Reynolds wrote in his Melody Maker review of the album" seems definitive in its description. People will poke their fun nonetheless. I like a bit of floaty mood music sometimes. Apparently their best stuff is in the blue album with white blister pack, called "Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space". Music to file under "good anaesthesia". Its good, but falls short of utter brilliance of Brian Eno on his Ambience albums.

I knew nothing about the band. The album sounds a bit like a user-friendly Jesus & Mary Chain. Or perhaps an ambient relation. It’s background music for me. I have no desire to pull it apart. but I quite enjoyed it, particularly Run.

I love me a drone. I am a huge fan of Spiritualized. I was obsessed with the "Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating In Space" album when it first came out, and I would still rank it amongst my favourite albums of all time. This album is an important step from the 60s-influenced psychedelic infused drone rock of Spacemen 3 to the more orchestral, gospel tinged, psychedelic drone rock. But, frankly, it is a transitional record, and I think this is really a proof of concept , rather than a fully realized version of Jason Pierce's vision. Much drone rock is a bit more 'rock' but nature (cf. Wooden Shjips or Water Damage), so Spiritualized's more mellow, more lush, a bit more melancholic, more overtly emotional approach is unusual in the genre. They strengthened in their resolve over the following albums, Pure Phase, and Ladies and Gentlemen..., to great effect. I am pretty impressed that they managed to record a record that sounds this big and great for only 3800 quid; there are plenty of records that cost 100 times as much that don't sound this good. The songs aren't that well developed, but it sounds pretty damn good. I enjoyed listening to this record, because it is repetitive and noisy and repetitive (which is how I like my music). I really like what Spiritualized do, but this isn't their best work. Three stars. I wish I could give it more, but I just can't justify it.

Still sounds modern. Ethereal velvet underground vibe.

Not even sure what it was I listened to. I didn’t know if I liked it or just tolerated it. I guess it was ok.

I enjoyed the other Spiritualized album I listened to. This one didn’t grab me as much. I vibes do a lot of it. It too much of the album felt repetitive in a bad way. 3/5

Sigh. It's really hard to impress with dreamy weird stuff. Not everyone can be radiohead. Lots of props for the winds--I was just reading someone say it's revolutionary to take winds into rock, that only Ben Folds, Paul Simon, and Bon Iver are that cool. Well the person saying that (Bon Iver's trumpeter) obviously never heard this stuff. Shine a Light is insufferable. But the rest..... I think I'll try to return to this later. I think it might grow on me.

Eh, fine.

I like spiritualized quite a bit, but this album is a 'going to sleep' album. more like an ambient extension of spacemen3 and not quite as exciting as his later efforts.

Didn't love it or hate it. It was just sort of there. Atmospheric melodies aren't really my thing, and this has them in spades, but at least it was unoffensive. But it wasn't really remarkable to me either.

A vibe for making pancakes, and then a welcome cool down after the energy of eurovision haha

Helt ok men fö mycke estetik

3.4/5. listened 1x catchup on 5/8/24. worth a second listen

Mellow but good

This was good, never really listened to them before.

Fine but completely forgettable.

This was pleasant to listen to but it was just. So. Long. 3/5

Again I’m not really a lowfi drone guy, but the bass on this was pretty good and made up for some of the other places it was lacking for me.

Didn't give this a fair listen, but what I heard was ok

okay but uneventful

It's alright. It's got a real laid back, shoe-gaze, spacey stoner kind of vibe, while channelling the likes of the Stone Roses and the Jesus and Mary Chain at times. It's nice enough for what it is, but nothing leaps out and excites me about this.

Не то чтобы я расстроился, но это сильно хуже, чем я ожидал. Мех. Ну да, прикольный эмбиент и всё такое. Но... хотелось больше погружения, больше энергии (любой, светлой, тёмной, нефильтрованной...)

Interesting and different. I have a hard time fully placing it in any of its Wiki Genres, but it does actually blend fairly well as a combo of all three of them. It gets a bit strange for me at times in the more "space rocky" moments. Liked it overall just nothing overly lasting for me.

nice & dreamy besser als ich gedahct hätte would listen again

It was a good album and i enjoyed the style of music. I especially liked Run and Take Your Time.

Meh. Didn't care for this really. Didn't hate it though either.

Second review of a Spitualized album and like the first was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this music previously off my radar. This was even better as I love ambient music particularly late at night in bed. Thought this one had a lot of the quiet side of Stone Roses in it which is no bad thing. Like I said before about Spititualized, so glad this list brought them to my attention and I’m even more determined now to add them to my CD catalogue. 3.5/5.

I prefer their follow up. This one is a bit too spacey and drawn out. Still some pretty cool songs on here but too much fluff.

A bunch of nothing occasionally interrupted by some of the best music I've ever heard in my life. Every single Spiritualized/Spacemen 3 album that I've heard is like this, so I'm starting to suspect that they keep the guy who knows how to make music locked in a basement and he occasionally escapes and records a song or two without the other guys knowing. It's pretty good at the end of the day, I guess. I won't return to it, but it didn't bore me. There's much better Dream Pop out there (shoutouts to Souvlaki by Slowdive in particular).

3.5 - was blindsided by the hella psychedelic post-punk fuzz, but got into the vibes by the second playthrough. the "call me the breeze" cover was mad unexpected. will def come back to this.

Could be a grower. More familiar with some of Spiritualized more recent work, going to need to check this out again. 3.5/5

Ok, kind of just chill.

Unobjectionable but not interesting.

Worse Brian eno

Tries to be hazy, but ends up sonically cluttered.

Shimmery and soothing but mostly forgettable. "Sway" is a nice track though.

Slow start but it grew on me. This guy should have been writing rock operas or something. I liked Angel Sigh the best.

Wasn’t as into this album as the last Spiritualized album. The 90s had so many chill beats, I see why Pure Moods was a thing.

I liked this better than "Ladies and Gentlemen..." There were a lot more musical elements that appealed to me. Pretty neutral listen overall.

I liked this better than “Ladies and Gentleman…” Solid album, but found it a bit underwhelming overall

I'm not familiar with this album or artist, which I like. It's also nice when a total mystery album turns out to be good. It's spacious, unbothered music. I wish I could understand the lyrics better (I'm a words person), but the vibe is immaculate. And as the album title implies, the melodies are great. There are dynamic builds in the instrumentation, the production is clean, and I really dig the variety in guitar sounds. It does get a little sleepy in the middle and overlong by the end, which holds me back from completely loving it. 3.5/5 Highlights: If I Were with Her Now, I Want You, Smiles, Angel Sigh

Mystical and atmospheric. Enjoyed some calming tunes

I can see why someone wouldn’t like this and am not at all surprised by the poor ratings, but I really like this. 4 nah 3 I like it tho

Very easy listening but didn't grab me

This one was not bad, but YouTube then took me to one I'm actually enjoying more: Atmosphera - Lady Of Shalott 1977 FULL VINYL ALBUM (prog rock, symphonic prog)

So mid

First album I’ve seen with a perfect three rating. I’m going to try to rate this album before listening just by album cover and see how that goes. Pre-listen review: mid, ok I guess Post-listen review: see pre 3/5

eins og flest í katalógnum er þetta seintekið. aðra umferð. 3,5.

Ne partez jamais faire un jogging en écoutant ce mec s'endormir sur son micro.

Idéal pour faire une sieste, pour profiter d'un bon album de musique on repassera

Junkie burbles on about how he can’t get his life together. Not as slick as Ladies and Gentlemen, which is far superior.

this is the kind of album you put on when you have a fever and you just need something decent enough to soothe you but underwhelming enough to not make you dizzy. it drags. but it’s not terrible.

I like it. Easy listening background music. Shine a Light got a bit annoying. But all in all, not a bad album.

Just okay. You have to be in the right mood and I was today, great for data entry.

Not bad. Gets a bit weird at times

It was pretty good. The only problem I had was that some of the songs dragged on a little, but I think that was the point.

Another one in the pleasant but won't revisit column.

This worked for me today as background. It's very gazey.

Beautiful, drifting, stately, otherworldy etc. Jason would get the tunes sorted in subsequent albums to add to the vibes on show here. Three stars.

I'm currently about 1000 albums in, and this album popped up as 853 for me. I've been waiting to review it because I've received a Spiritualized record in the past, and felt like the proper headspace for this was with a head of (at the *very least*) THC. But I'll admit, I want to check the box, and if a record needs drugs for it to work, maybe there's something wrong with that. I enjoyed the record, especially the crescendo near the end, but you can really be excused for not waiting to listen through a ton of ambient noise and murmured melodies to get to the last three tracks. The payoff is good, but maybe not that good. Favorite tracks: "Shine A Light", "Angel Sigh"

I’m so on the fence about this album, I could have a picket up my rear end. Yes, it’s floaty and spacy and ethereal; occasionally little bits of meteorite whizz past that are interesting to look at or some space debris comes along that you can cling onto, but mostly there’s just a lot of invisible dark matter. I can’t tell whether I like it or not. I was positive that there was one song really stood out for me, but couldn’t remember what it was. So I went through the whole lot again, looking for the brightest star, couldn’t find it, and still couldn’t make up my mind, whether I liked the tunes or not. I can imagine it playing in the background of some science exhibition or on a ride at Epcot. It’s definitely music that contributes to an atmosphere for something else, but I’m not sure I choose to listen to it on its own. It’s a 2.5, but I’ve listened to worse.

On one hand, I liked this album more than I thought I might. On the other, it tended to bore me. So, not exactly a glowing review, but I ain't panning it either.

I liked the other Spiritualized album (Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space) much better. On this one, I think they're still finding their voice. It's OK, but I would cull it from the list.

Very interesting. Like 90s techno and spa music had a baby

3.1/5 - Soft and spacey. Every beat feels like it is in the right place. But this is just not for me.

mira, me gusta más el Ladies and Gentlemen.

Sonically fun and something to throw on in the background. 3.5/5

Pretty good dreampop/showgazepop album!

Sunday grocery soundtrack. Was chill but droned on a bit but not unpleasant.

It was pretty good. I liked some of the songs.

I listened and don’t remember it being good or bad. So 3 star.

A wildly calm and dreamy album that sort of floats around you earning it's Space Rock genre well. Paired with the cover art, I felt like I was Mr. Burns where Homer mistakes him for an alien. Best: You Know It's True Worst: 200 Bars

That spacey floaty vibe. Most tracks repeat a refrain which you expect to break but never do so the whole exercise feels formulaic and unexciting. Occasionally hits a good groove but not consistently enough.

Not a bad mellow ride. Didn't think I would make it to the end at first but after the first few songs I was in it.

The surprise second half of If I Were With Her Now really blew me away the second time - the beginning also reminds me of I Got A Feeling. The overall sound of the album is extremely vibey. I normally like higher-energy stuff, but I think these guys are really at their best when they're leaning into the softer side of their sound. I Want You has big Freedom! '90/Movin' Up energy.

It’s ok

Okay but slow at times

Sometimes has a bit of a Velvet Underground vibe. It's nice background music but that's pretty much it.

Chill but kind of meh.

Juuh jeej

Ok taustamusiikkia

About what I expected, not bad but not my cup of tea

This was just chill I imagine the guy was high while recording it. It just feels like that kind of album. Not the best to listen to at the gym

Pretty chill. I imagine this would be pretty mesmerizing when high lol. I enjoyed this quite a bit. 3.5/5

I enjoyed this album. Little different. Would be hard to pick a "lead" song out of it, but great for a background album.

It’s alright in the background but not something I would throw on just to listen to

A lot of whispering and soft singing like it was building to something. I kept waiting for something to happen....

Spiritualized is one of those bands where I really like a lot of the songs that I hear, but something doesn't really click when I try to dig into their albums. There are some great songs on here like I Want You, Run, and Shine a Light, but others that are kind of a slog to get through. Definitely a little too droney and slow for my tastes. That being said, the highs on this album are great.

Solid listen, not a standout

Insipid

Kinda niceeeeee

Good but nothing compared to Ladies & Gentlemen...

Typical 90s soft rock. Solid, good quality sound, but safe. No stand outs. Low 3

It was a cool, ambient record. Good for a late night drive with Dylan

Prob a 3.5. Background music, but the very good kind

Just exists in space.

Pochette affreuse, mais musique plus intéressante. Petit côté sombre. Je suis intéressée et curieuse.

I am so happy that this music project exposes me to a wide variety of genres out there. I have decided that I don't enjoy the Shoegaze genre at all. It's just not for me, but I totally get other people enjoying it.

Lazer Guided Melodies is the debut album by English space rock band Spiritualized. This space rock / dream pop / shoegaze album has lengthy, minimalist music tracks with hypnotic effects like echos or distortion, and breathy, obscured vocals. It's been described as one of the best dream pop albums by Pitchfork. I loved the vibes from the album. It felt otherworldly, soothing, and richly textured. This was an exciting and interesting album, so I highly recommend it.

Listened Before? N This is great background music. It also feels a bit ahead of its time. I really enjoyed listening to it and they're talented musicians but I don't think I'd put it on just to listen to. Maybe if I were super high? Anyway, another good one this week. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Run

Cool stuff.

I like this less than their prior 1001 offering. The production is not as inspiring and the guy’s voice is a bit of a bummer. “Shine a light” had a few neat things going on. It made me think of Sigur Ros, but Sigur Ros could maintain that level for an entire album.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: I want you

Interestingly different

An effects driven record that feels one part 60s "retro" and one part "modern" 90s sound, Even with heavy reverb on many tracks, each instrument has time to grow, swell and burst. A psychedelic trip through electronica and rock, its a trip back to an era when the most popular TV show was X-Files and with this album, you can tell.

It was ok

Slow plodding atmospheric music. They are obviously talented, but this is music for bed time.

Reminds me of very chilled out Madchester, Stone Roses, Primal Scream (Scottish, yes I know), Happy Mondays. Very relaxed. Absolutely not what I was expecting at all, knowing nothing about the band. It's all right. VERY chilled. This is for the morning after, isn't it? We're all coming down and listening to this record that is going absolutely nowhere. Eh. 2.5 / 5 stars.

More the odd Melody rayher than lazer guided

One day, someone will need to educate me on why Spiritualized are held in amazing regard. Can't shake the feeling that I might be missing something.

It was alright. A bit samey.

I get the spacey atmosphere.

Like every Spiritualised album, lots of lush loveliness occasionally let down by excessive noodling.

A little bit of a psychedelic synthy kinda vibe. Pretty mid for me. 3.5

I think this album is ok. It seems like something you have to be in the mood for. I was not in the mood for it today but you know, I do thinkni could come back and appreciate this more when I'm feeling this style more.

Production level ahead of its time. V sick

We get it guy. You want her... 🙄

A decent start for Spiritualized. Dreamy and floaty.

Starts off slow, but builds throughout the album. Great atmosphere and layered sounds, creates an interesting spacey sound. Good use of harmonies.

weird bloopy background music. Nice, tho.

I have no idea what to expect here. Never heard of it and the album are is pretty obscure. Cool though! Ghost tits! lol Well I listened to this while walking Mia. Thoughts: Ethereal, hum drone, reminded me of Tame Impala a lot, and a male version of Mazzy Star. Slow, mellow. I liked it.

I mean. Do I wanna go back and listen to it? Not really. Barely got excited to listen to any of it. There were some points where it was more enjoyable noise rock than normal. See how it breaks the mold of traditional rock. But I’m not jumping to listen to it again

Me gusta lo espacioso del sonido, la paz que transmite, aunque no me esperaba estar en una sesión de meditación, pero me gusto

"Take Your Time" was mesmerizing. This is a good album to zone out with. "Shine a Light" started strong and then went off the rails. This wasn't a bad way to pass some time.

Ho hum.

It is possible that this album deserves a higher rating, but I couldn't stay awake for the whole thing.

Sleepy time rave.

pew! pew! peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Se laisse écouter, une musique qui est appaisante voir même relaxante. Mais c'est très linéaire et répétitif, on ne sent pas vraiment de différence majeure d'une pièce à l'autre. 5/10

Need another listen to really get it

Couple of nice tracks on this, but not sure i'll be coming back for any of them. "Shine a Light" stands out above the rest of the album so it's understandable that it has vastly more plays on Spotify than any of the other tracks.

It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't for me. The songs were a little too long and a little too repetitive

Decent background music, and really pleasant. but there's nothing Lazer guided about these melodies

Starts off interesting, unusual, and veers into drifty, ambient blah.

Perfectly pleasant background music. Not sure I’m chemically altered to truly appreciate it though…

Kinda enjoyable, I liked the other Spiritualized album a bit more

Not so bad. It deserved to sell more than gold status in Monaco.

Very interesting album, very experimental.

It's good stuff, I discovered the We are floating in Space album not that long ago and liked that as well. I always dig some space rock.

Good headphone music to get lost in: a detailed, layered soundscape. Listened at work, but would listen again with an experience enhancement agent of some kind. Enjoyable, but doesn’t break new ground.

Dreamy and spacey. Not bad but i don't think i'd listen to it again.

Super dreamy, atmospheric, spacey music. Very interesting. But not something I want to listen to often.

This was interesting. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t great and in fact really just reminded me of other songs that are great

Notes - A band im familiar with the name of but have never really listened to - Debut album by them - “Space rock” dream pop - Lots of atmosphere, texture, hushsed vocal delivery - Cool vibe but definitely easy to tune out fav - angel sigh - cool! i like how it transitions in and out of the loud section Least fav - I want you - Drums were distracting 3.5/5 - definitely interested in hearing more!

Fine, I suppose.

I feel like I could listen to the output of this band pretty much perpetually, but nothing in particular of it really sticks with me.

I've listened to a lot of ambient and chill music today. This was alright.

Spacey and chilled vibes

Prima recht-door-het-midden hard rock tijdens het behangen van een muurtje.

Interesting. Repetitive. Didn’t like it quite enough to buy it.

Album had a pretty cool atmosphere and this is my first time hearing this album but a lot of songs on this album were shit. Cover goes unbelievably hard though My rating: 6/10 Need to be on this list: idk

Skimmed

Could see this growing in me

Like a softer smashing pumpkins or Radiohead. Never heard of these guys before but this was a relaxing album.

Decent. 3/5

Ambiance correcte mais manque de oompf.

Listenable, slightly gazey.

This album is both interesting and unremarkable at the same time.

i liked it. but no we are floating

It was fine, certainly not in my wheelhouse but that’s on me and personal taste

Some good songs and some fillers, so nothing more than a decent record with some highs.

First time listen for me - I didn't mind this as interesting background music

peaceful, ethereal, soothing, spiritual, atmospheric, drugs, space, psychedelic, melancholic, lethargic, calm, hypnotic, mellow, male vocals, soft, warm, lush, repetitive

Good background music for working. Reminded me a bit of Acetone and Luna.

Pretty good at times. Pretty dull at times too.

Hard to rate- Angel Sigh, Symphony Space + Sway were among my favourite moments, other tracks weren’t as interesting to me. 100th album

Far out man 4

Chill town

This gets a little too spacey for me. I fell asleep while listening to this... multiple times. I prefer the more raw vitality of Spacemen 3.

I like it in theory, but gets a bit too repetitive for a casual listen, even for me. Definitely can get lost in it though. Live would be fun.

Baby J. Spaceman getting on the path to excellence.

The hour that I spent listening to this album went incredibly quickly. It's not my favorite ever, but overall pretty good chill music. I think that my favorite tracks were You Know It's True, If I Were With Her Now, and Sway.

Música ambiental, relajante, un tanto difícil de catalogar. No me ha aportado ni inspirado nada especial.

Highlights: I Want You, Shine a Light. It felt weirdly timeless, or more modern than it is. Generally a good listen.

Always a special place in my heart for some indie psychedelia.

Some very interesting sounds and tracks on this album. At times my mind kind of settled into this being lumped in with things like ambient and lofi music that's fairly pervasive these days given the relative ease of producing such music in the present day, but when I remember that this was recorded and released in the early 90s, it does seem a bit more remarkable. A few of the tracks really induced feelings of floating and dreaminess -- no, I'm not high; it's early in the morning and I'm sober as can be at my work desk -- and other tracks get almost cacophonic and chaotic in moments. Overall, I enjoyed this one.

5/10. Pretty boring, but pleasant enough in the background.

endlich mal wieder was Hörbares und Bekanntes.

I like this band. They occupy a space that sits somewhere between the Britpop of bands like Pulp and Blur, and the art-rock of bands like Radiohead and Stereolab. That's really splitting hairs, unless you're a white guy that grew up in the 90s. Then you know that there has always been a niche ripe for the picking between those two subgenres....hahah. Anyway (I guess this two-paragraph review format it here to stay), this record is consistent with what I've heard from Spiritualized. Which is to say, it's pretty, melodic, repetitive, and sorta boring but in a cathartic way. That's fine. There are a lot of effects happening here on the instruments as well as in the studio during the mixing phase. I prefer the former to the latter in this case. But, they all make for a cohesive whole. Other than "Shine a Light" I don't think I had heard this record. I have listened mostly to "Ladies and Gentlemen, we are floating in space." I think this band was in the depths of heroin addiction most of their career. I hope they're better now. I appreciate the lethargic and dreamy nature it imparted on their sound.

Not terrible. I don't have any commentary to provide, but it was inoffensive and fairly calming to listen to.

Good background music but not sure I'd listen to it again.

This had potential but was a lot of big swing, no ding. I liked it in theory but in practice it was too long and that bit too indie. Space rock sounds like a great concept, I wanted to really like it and I could hear what it was aiming for, but it mostly missed the mark. 3/5 though cause any less would be a diss.

Not bad. I need to dig into this band a lil mo'

This album felt more like floating in space than their album with that title. There was nothing unpleasant or discordant here as I noted in that review. It was a cool, easy vibe for the most part. I liked the soothing instrumentation and soothing voices. As I have noted with other albums of similar genre however, I often like the sound and feel of a song as it starts, but get annoyed when it feels like it's long outstayed its welcome, and that often happened here as with the last album.

I previous encountered Spiritualized on the 1001 menu. This album seemed a bit more palatable for me than the first I heard here, but this one is still not anything that will need to revisit in the future. On the first listen, it was okay, just kind of an easy-listening feel, but nothing really grabbed my attention. On the second, I thought that maybe I could like the album. Then I went again, and I started to get irritated by some of the tracks...so, that's probably all I need from Lazer Guided Melodies in my life...but honestly, if it were playing in the background somewhere, I probably wouldn't even notice it.

Ethereal!

Un po' tipo i sigur ros, ma più lamentoso. In realtà non mi dispiace, ma non mi ha fatto impazzire nemmeno. Però gli posso dare un altro ascolto, forse.

This is like if english pop and house had a baby. And then the Space Rock part happens. its pretty boring.

Electronic fluff...

their gigs must sound amazing live, but in the quiet of my headphones it was simply noise

Pretty good. Still prefer most of Spacemen 3's catalog and Ladies and Gentlemen We're Floating in Space. 6/10

Melodic space music. Relaxing.

Its okay.

The title of the album is very misleading. Lazer means sharp and to the point. There's no doubt there are melodies. Strong ones at that. But not lazer guided. Sounds very much like the Stone Roses. And that's a good thing.

Though there is some adventure and grindiness in across the tracks, for the most part it is pretty listless and atmospheric without really sinking hooks into the listener. I think it is interesting, but not too engaging for me.

Wow un peu long peut-etre, mais je n’ai pas deteste. Certaine tounes mon fait sourcille mais c’est tres transcendant et spirituelle comme le nom l’indique. 3.0 je suis bruler apres cette ecoute.

Quite dreamy. Own it on vinyl

Starts out rough with meandering tracks searching for a plot, but comes into its own strongly on the back half with gazey, domineering guitar parts and strong psychedelic overtones.

v v chill too chill. almost

Het is rock die me niet aanspreekt

Started out interesting. For the time it would have been innovative. Quickly became repetitive... C'esr dommage

This album was just too samey but enjoyable at the same time. I think I need to sit this with more I feel like this album is more of a grower tbh. 5/10

Be better if I was stoned or tripping.

I was expecting to be required to endure an hour of obnoxious noise, but I’m 3 tracks in and pleasantly surprised. It ended up being all alright album if the mood is right (relaxed)

Chill, lush album. I definitely think Spiritualized got better after this but it's a really solid debut nonetheless.

Nice study music.

I've always found spiritualized as good ancillary music. Something you can have on, without it demanding your attention.

Seems like something I would have listened to in ‘92. Kind of like a heavier, trippier combo of Mazzy Star and Yo Lo Tengo.

Not bad but didn’t make a strong impression

indie/rock mit elektronischen einflüssen

Very slow, mellow, and psychedelic. Only tracks that really stuck out to me were Angel Sigh and maybe 200 bars.

I also enjoyed this album quite a lot. Despite being "one of the greats", I don't enjoy LaGWAFIS, but Lazer Guided Melodies feels like a whole different vibe.

very interesting and pleasing music, but it all felt just a little too long

Spacey chill rock - a bit out there for me. Wouldn't go crazy listening to it but likely won't repeat.

Lazer Guided Melodies, Spiritualized- 7/10 “You know it’s true” and “if I were with her now” were both fantastic in terms of production, and both utilize a brilliant use of panning that keeps things interesting. But they somewhat lacked the sort of structure that I enjoy. “I want you” is a much more upfront, massive sounding stadium rocker that I really quite like. “Run” I feel slightly brings to light that the vocal performances so far haven’t really been anything spectacular. “Smiles” is slightly disappointing because it builds up this concept for a minute and a half then just fades away right when your ready for it to crescendo. “Step into the Breeze” has the same problem; as soon as the song starts to get interesting it just ends… “Symphony Space” is really just sound rather then music, and I am reviewing music, not ambient sounding noise. “Take Your Time” is decidedly eerie sounding with these somber guitars and Jason’s almost whispered vocals. It almost sounds like the soundtrack to a midnight walk on another planet… “Shine a Light” sounds like it’s straight from another dimension and is a little longer then it needs to be, but hey, it’s definitely interesting. After all the previous mellow sounding songs “Angel Sigh” really slaps you awake with a killer guitar riff and powerful drumming, but again is a little long winded and overstays it’s welcome. Maybe I’m just tired, but “Sway” really almost had me falling asleep, and again right when it got good it just ended. I feel “200 Bars” is hypnotizing my ears in a way, and it’s quite strange. Conclusion: Spiritualized really created something unique here, and if the future sounded like anything, this is prolly what I’d imagine it to sound like😂 It’s like U2, The Cure, My bloody valentine, and Beach House had a giant futuristic baby in outer space. And I like it. 7/10

Chill. I think I might end up liking it, if I give it a chance.

Very calming album. Probably not for everyone. The last couple tracks probably could have been left off and made it better overall.

Chill at times. Soundscapes. Rock. All over the place. Not bad.

Had me feeling some type of way on my walk, but really nothing THAT interesting. Not particularly memorable at all

Good for the background. Not for the foreground.

This was nice as a 'lie down on my bed and think about deep things' kind of album

Quite long and chill.

Decent stuff but not sure I’d hurry back for more

Guess it's OK for background music? Otherwise, nothing special.

Yeah not so bad!

Music for stoned spacemen.

A bit blah 😒

For me, Spiritualized sit in an otherwise empty musical box in my head marked “The Verve meets Flaming Lips”. The only album of theirs I’d ever owned was ‘Ladies and Gentleman...” which if I’m honest with myself I bought as much for its critical acclaim and its giant pill packet packaging as I did the music. Don’t get me wrong - I like the music. It just never really manages to hold my attention as much as I feel they deserve. By chance they were one of the last bands I saw live before Covid put a stop to all that, but I think I got lured away half way through by the smells wafting over from a Lebanese food van. I enjoyed this album but I know in my heart of hearts I probably won’t be going back to it very often.

better than the other spiritualized album

It's ok, interesting enough but not something I'll ever go back to

Bit try hard but pleasant enough background music. B Tec Stone Roses vibes.

No es lo mío

No memorable song to be found, but as a whole, it was pleasant to listen to and the genre is something I am enjoying on this list.

There’s like zero chance this list wasn’t created by a British journalist, right? Anywho, this album feels at times like it was made by more than one band. The band that does the slower, quieter stuff (“Shine a Light” and “Angel Sigh” in particular) is the band I like. The band that sounds like they’re just trying to convince everybody they do a lot of drugs is the band I could do without. And whoever decided to put that freak glitch out at the end of that one song is a meanie.

If I Were With Her Now en particular me agradó mucho con esas gaitas y ese sonido industrialoide repetitivo que me recordó a KMFDM.

It's like mellow grunge. I liked it but honestly don't know if I listened to 1 long song or a bunch that sounded similar

Some cool parts, but gets a bit lost in the spacey soundscapes at times.

Pretty good background music. First track best, last track noisy and unpleasant

Gentle. Ethereal.

Some early pop rock with soundscapes. Nothing interesting

I unexpectedly liked this. At first I thought I was going to get bored but it was good.

Not too bad, probably an album I would want to listen to a few more times to really appreciate. It didn't stand out on my first listen.

Maybe 15 years ago I would have been interested in hearing this at 05:00 on a Sunday morning but right now it’s not the album for me.

I liked it. I respected it. I don't remember many songs standing out, though. 3.5?

Have to be in the right mood. Enjoyable though.

The Wikipedia entry for this album proudly states that it sold 10,000 copies in the USA in its first 3 years. That's good for hipsters, bad for exposure. There is of course a good reason for this: the album is just a lot of directionless unmemorable mediocrity.

very pleasant bass thump doing a lot of work I think the sparse Velvet Underground type jam at the beginning sets me up for patience the the rest weak when it tries to do more conventional pop rock second last track very annoying. going down to 2. could make a solid 3.5 out of this with editing. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

Ok 2/5

Meh. Barely registered for me.

Here’s another obscure English band with their debut album. This one is rock/space rock - more planetarium music with occasional vocals. The whole thing is rather boring, particularly the last track, which repeats the same two chords for three minutes while someone counts from 1 to 100. Just barely good enough for two stars.

Attempting to sell a 4 side LP in the '90s feels like a strong disconnect with society, which is probably the main reason I've never heard of this. It feels like whatever they were imagining was very similar to the outcome, there's so many layers, odd instruments and curious spacey details. It's just that, a lengthy display of '90s space-rock. I low-key never want to hear this again. No drama or anything. 2.3/5

it's fine. 2.5

Lost me immediately, won me over by the middle, then lost me again by the end.

Spiritualized is just a little too spiritual with their sound. Whispy and overly whimsical. Lazer Guided Melodies is pretty honed in on the technical song construction but is off target with appeal. Boring due to the lack of drums throughout most of the album. You would probably find this playing at some boho-chic shop that sells crystals and candles. I agree with Pitchfork's placement on a list of "ten unusual CD-era gimmicks." The band gets better when they start floating in space. With a long "Angel Sigh" I give this record 1.57 stars.

Wasn't aware of Spiritualized until they showed up on this list the first time. Lazer Guided Melodies was a little more slowed down and spacey than what I remember from the prior album, but seems like they live in this shoegaze, space rock realm which isn't the worst. You need to be in a specific mood to want to hear any of this, so if you run into it on a random day it might not be the right fit. For background music at work or when chilling its not the worst, but also not something I would ever think to put on. If you're stoned and just want to sit back and chill I can see this working but I'm not often in that state of mind so Spiritualized will likely remain an overlooked act that I don't think about much. I can see an audience for this existing and while I don't really think I'm part of it much there's something alluring about the low stakes vibes of the whole thing. It's a forgettable entry but not one I'm mad to have sat through. 2.13 stars

Really dull for the most part.

Not just English rock… it’s English SPACE rock.

Usually into this type of electronic bizzaro type sheeeeet. But not for me.

Tea if moody, fatal if sleepy

might be a three, but nothing really grabbed me, need to come back to this

Enjoyment: 5 Replayability: 4 Cohesion: 6 Flow/Pacing: 4 Artistic Merit: 5 Weighted Average: 4.95 Review: This was a cool experimental album, but it's ethereal nature made its chord progressions very repetitive. Liked Song(s): Run, Symphony Space, 200 Bars Disliked Song(s): Take Your Time, Shine a Light, Sway Recommend? No

I expected this to be electronically tinged indie schmindie pap. It was. It started well though, a lot more interesting than I expected but I Want You out paid to that and dragged everything down. From there it seemed to spiral. Tired and uninspiring.

listen to Red Vox instead

I could tolerate if I had too, but I’d rather not.

Mind numbing indie

A bit boring. The next album is way better.

203. ok
