Не моя группа, всё что не слушал - мимо. Как и сольное творчество джека
Funky and pure white stripes. The new kind though, not the electric guitar white stripes ;) . Fun and unique and without a break-out single.
Good album - will add to my artist list.
TBH was not paying full attention but know this was not the right time to listen to this lmfao it overall gave me anxiety but was already anxious so not necessarily the album's fault.
I love Jack and Meg, and throughout this album I'm reminded that it wasn't Jack slamming open chords through whatever Big Pi he could find that made The White Stripes great; it was Meg completely holding down the groove. I think her drum work really made The Stripes stand out, and why Jack White hasn't found the explosive popularity since they ended. Get Behind Me Satan is not my favorite offering of theirs, I was more excited when "Ball and Biscuit" came on Spotify after the album ended.
Every White Stripes album I listed to, I am met with the Jack White conundrum. Jack White is cool, and good. I'm glad Jack White does his thing. Jack White is also maybe a little annoying? So, the hits are big hits, but the misses usually miss for me. So, I always leave a White Stripes album thinking, that was fine. And when it came out it was unlike anything else, and I can appreciate that, and I remember being so hyped when they were being released, but now, they are just fine. But thats ok.
Nostalgia
Blue Orchid and Denial Twist are bangers.
Beau travail avec peu de matière, simplicité, blues, trad des fois
Not nearly as good as Elephant for me. It's all a little same-y and repetitive. Tons of respect for Jack and Meg, this one just didn't hit.
Not as strong as White Blood Cells (2001) but you can hear the sound changing before Jack spun off his side and solo projects.
Too repetitive. Some of the riffs and drums were good, but inconsistent.
Never understood all the hype behind this band.
This was alright. There were some bright spots for sure (the guitar tone in some of the songs was just absolutely mind-blowing), but for the most part I was just kinda okay with it. There were a lot of really amateurish moments that made me not like some songs. Three stars.
Nada que decir, sólo reminiscencias a TOP en algunos momentos.
It's weird how dated this is tbh, it felt so fresh at the time but feels so intensely 2005 iPod advert now. Dare I say quite cringe? It also feels a bit unfocussed and all over the shop in terms of style, like is it going for wonky Americana or thudding blues rock or what. Still enjoyable enough tho!
C’était plutôt sympathique. Il m’a semblé plus abouti et plus recherché que celui que j’ai eu à écouter avant. On retrouve l’énergie brute du groupe mieux distillée et c’était quand même une écoute bien agréable !
It was alright. You really have to like Jack White’s voice.
Stark angefangen, stark nachgelassen
Standouts Blue Orchid My Doorbell The Denial Twist
White Stripes things. Solid record with a range of moods and expressions. Jack White is a master of theatrics and performance. It’s just not always my type of music, but I very much appreciate it.
Oh good, another White Stripes album. Everything the White Stripes and/or Jack White has done has been given a "3" by me, because that's how I feel about the White Stripes. I liked this album the most of the three I had listened to. It felt more varied. Still, it's a "3' for me.
i found a lot of these songs grating but the closer was great. Fav tracks: I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)
I liked it, nothing really wowed me though.
Some bangers on here. 3.5/5
Blue orchid is a bait and switch with the rest of the album
There were a lot of great elements to this album, and a few highlights like opener 'Blue Orchid' and 'Take, Take, Take' but I don't think it's their strongest collection of songs.
This is probably my least-favourite White Stripes album off the top of my head, but it’s still a decent listen. It’s quite different to their others, being more piano- than guitar-driven on a lot of tracks, and there’s not one but two marimba-based songs. The album suffers from comparison with its immediate predecessor, and also by opening with ‘Blue Orchid’, the best track. There’s a fair amount of stylistic variety and it’s a bit more ‘experimental’ than their other stuff, but I’m not sure any other track reaches the heights of their best work. A mixed bag, decent but inconsistent.
I always felt weird about this band but they have talent
Number: 155 Date: 06/07/2026 Artist: The White Stripes Album: Get Behind Me Satan Year: 2005 Style: Alternative Rock Familiarity: Aware (2) Rating: 3 Before: ======= Of course I'm familiar with The White Stripes name but their music never really clicked with me. I do like their red, black, and white theme that is consistent across all their album covers. Checking my favorites by years I don't find any songs from them at all, for any year. Hmm , I thought I had at least one. Well, maybe I'll find something on this album to add. During: ======= Four songs in now and so far not hearing anything that could make it on my 2005 list. For reference, here are my personal favorite albums from 2005, in order: 1)* Richard Hawley : "Coles Corner" 2) Low : "The Great Destroyer" 3) Smog : "A River Ain't Too Much To Love" 4) My Morning Jacket : "Z" 5) The Fiery Furnaces : "EP" 6) Heartless Bastards : "Stairs and Elevators" 7) I Am Kloot : "Gods and Monsters" 8) Electrelane : "Axes" 9) LCD Soundsystem : "LCD Soundsystem" 10) The American Analog Set : "Set Free" 11) Mercury Rev : "The Secret Migration" 12) Broadcast : "Tender Buttons" * Only one of these albums made it on 1001 list and that would be Richard Hawley's "Coles Corner", which I have ranked number 1 for 2005. After : ======= Holy shit! They have 3 albums on this list? No way they should more than one. That's gonna affect my rating I'm afraid. So after a little research, I have learned that this album is unique amongst their entire collection so will give a bit of a pass for suitability. As far as my personal rating, I gave all but 2 songs a 3. The Nurse and Instinct Blues got 4's. Still, I did not find anything to add to my favorites of 2005 list. ======= 3 my personal rating 3 suitability for this list 4 impact ----------------------------------------------- 3.3 composite rating
Some of that was cool. Other parts of it not so much.
Much more piano-saloon compared to prior records. The magic is there, but not as impactful. Meg for sure rules.
This album was fine, I didn't hate or love it as it just never clicked. I definitely enjoyed White Blood Cells more.
While I don't really consider any White Stripes album an essential listen, 3 songs in, and I'm already enjoying this perhaps more than any other White Stripes album. GET BEHIND ME SATAN takes production risks, right up to the line, but never goes over, and keeps the tracks accessible enough to encourage a relationship with the song. It has resulted in a much more consistently pleasurable album for me. Plenty for lyrically driven (and for people such as myself who are not lyrically driven enthusiasts) to chew on. Favorites: "Blue Orchid", "The Nurse" (love the marimba), "My Doorbell", "The Denial Twist", "Red Rain" (love the glockenspiel)
Enjoyed this one again. A big shift into blues and country on this record, which I didn't love but it was really well done. Honestly surprised to see this one on this list over Elephant and White Blood Cells, which I'm assuming at least one of are on here. It's good but no where near the highs of their last two records.
Yes
Vestigial
As with the other Jack White/White Stripes albums we've had before, I'm ambivalent on this.
A few duds. There are better WS albums imo.
Never really listened to this band. Cool sound, but nothing really grabs me.
Not a bad album, but wedged between Elephant and Icky Thump in their discography, this really isn't an essential listen, even in the context of The White Stripes themyelves.
It has some highlights but is definitely weaker than Elephant and White Blood Cells. Still — the White Stripes will always have a high floor!
3/5 Blue Orchi - 5 The Nurse - 2 My Doorbell - 2 Forever For Her - 2 Little Ghost - 3 The Denial Twist - 5 White Moon - 2 Instinct Blues - 4 Passive Manipulation - 2 Take, Take, Take - 3 As Ugly As I am - 4 Red Rain - 4 I'm Lonely - 4
A couple of skips. Pretty cool though
Me preparé para un exorcismo pero estuvo bien
Rv
It's fine. Basic blues with a few bangers
Bof
My first TWS album. Based on the reviews, it probably shouldn’t have been my first, since it’s the most experimental of their albums but it’s what was assigned. Not bad. A few ear worm tracks, a few I would skip.
Faves: Take, Take, Take I'm Lonely (But I ain't that lonely yet)
Look it’s certainly not a bad album but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that, during White Moon I vocally exclaimed ‘Oh my God! I’m so Bored!’
I think the White Stripes are suffering from a recency bias on this list. I really like Elephant and White Blood Cells, but this album seems like it was added because they are popular and it was their next thing. Not bad, but nowhere near as good or relevant as the other two on the list. Also, 20 years from now, nobody is going to classify the White Stripes as influential as a lot of other groups on this list. Really good at what they do, but nothing that people will point to as being majorly influential outside of alternative rock.
🙂
boring
Creo un poco menor a sus dos primeros discos
Solid album but I prefer their earlier more raw stuff.
While I do like the White Stripes, this one falls a little flat for me. Their other albums are driven by the iconic, brash, feisty singles. This album is mostly potatoes and no meat.
An unnecessary entry given the other white stripes and music that sounds like this, but what else is new! The doorbell song is good.
kind of strange to hear a jack white project with such little guitar work on it. I think I only knew the first track and am not surprised by that after hearing the album. This is just not his best work even if its interesting from a historcial perspective to hear him trying out other sounds. It would be a more baffling choice by the list makers if we hadn't already heard so many bad or inessential albums already
Thought it was gonna garbage kuz of the title but was good.
Not bad, but doesn't keep together well. Despite having a concrete set of themes for the album, it feels out of sorts and the movement from one song to another can feel jarring and put you out of it. This is especially noticeable from "Blue Orchard," to "The Nurse." You get the gritty, electrifying garage rock and then you move onto something that totally deflates, totally different in both matter, style, and energy. Rough. That said, there's lots of good here. The music itself is solid. Jack is a talented composer, both melody and harmony, and it all comes together pretty well. But the arrangements are hit or miss, and the ordering of the tracks feels like it was done in almost the worst way possible. A real odd listen, but rewarding all the same.
This album was pretty familiar and I think I had it downloaded as a follow up to their 2003 breakout album/single(to me), Elephant/Seven Nation Army.
I liked the first track. I kinda zoned out after that.
It's fine. It's not as good as their other work. The emphasis on the piano harmed them on this one, and someone take those bloody marimbas away. Still good, just not great.
I mean, not bad, niet geweldig
Love Jack White, maar geen idee wat het minst boeiende White Stripes album in deze lijst doet.
Three WS records and this is the odd man out for me. It's solid but it’s not surprising in retrospect that it was their last. I think they had run out of gas after going 110 for the decade leading up to this. Some good tracks, but a big drop off from the several records that preceded it, as well as the JW solo records that followed.
temitas piolas, banda medio emo eso si. The nurse es a mi parecer el mejor tema del album o casi no me acuerdo mucho. Disco normalin igualmente no lo siento innovador
Average
This one took multiple all the way through listens for me to really start to get into it, at first everything sort of just melded together and passed in one ear and out the other, like an entire album of parents from the peanuts talking. After about round 4 or 5 my teeth truly started to sink in and magic started to happen. The chaos and beauty and dissonance started to make sense and appear like finally seeing the picture in an optical illusion. I will still say my favor really lies in the heavy fast paced rock-oriented tracks than it does with the slower, softer almost lullaby like sounds of the in betweens. I still greatly appreciate those and their design and direction but for me this is really an amazing band with insanely precise drive and focus on their vision, but my feeble mind was unfortunately able to grasp only around half of the album. Shout out to little ghost being a song I always loved from Paranorman and had no idea where it came from. I think with following listens my tune could change but big swings and big delivery I just may not be the proper audience. Also Blue Orchid, awesome track, can see why it's the most popular of the album.
The paradox: complex in its simplicity. Worth the listen any time it’s playing, but not one I’ll seek out.
It's OK, but I don't think they could top their debut record. The formula was stale by the time this record was made.
It was alright, but not my style.
I like the white stripes well enough, but this isn’t my favorite album I’ve heard from them.
Completely inoffensive to me, but I can understand both the appeal and disdain that many have for this album
Decent. Ei oma suosikki.
They need to choose a more cohesive sound. Some good songs but sounds genre-confused. It was OK.
Good tracks start to finish, heavy influences but still fresh enough to warrant the accolades. 3 - deserves to be on this list
Aquesta gent te molt bones cançons fora d'aquest àlbum, ses d'aquest pues comença be i després va a "pitjor". No es una merda però es una mescla un poc rara jajajaja però en general està be.
Good, not great.
white stripes made one good song and decided to make spongebob music before breaking up
Mid 3
Do we really need 2 White Stripes album on this list? This one seems to be the more interesting of the two
What a weird album. This is never one that I put on when I want to listen to The White Stripes, but it's hard not to admire the big swings that Jack and Meg were taking on this record. Only a couple of the songs here are ones that casual fans would know, and it's hard to make an argument for this being an overlooked masterpiece when a good number of the songs do feel a bit half-baked. Still, it's a band trying something new, and for that I have to give it some credit.
Judging from the reviews TWS are very much Marmite and certainly not to everyone's taste. With an open mind I listened to this album for the first time having only previously heard My Doorbell. It started strong with the track Blue Orchard but sadly went down hill thereafter and left me wondering what all the hype was about. Not for me. Favourite track: Blue Orchid
Some good ones on here but to be honest nothing life-altering. From reading other reviews seems like there are better White Stripes albums.
What an interesting album. Lots of songs I really enjoyed and others… not so much. I really fucked with the marimba, it was funny to hear. I felt like I was back in my high school music class but in a good way, with people playing instruments that “shouldn’t really go together”. I’d say overall it’s a decent album and I enjoyed some elements. I respect The White Stripes so it gets a 3.
i will always fuck with a marimba. okay so i gather this album was experimental, i think blue orchid is quite a good opener, but i dont think it matches the rest of the alnum as much. this definitely feels experimental, i dont think every song hits but i think the music itself is good. rating an experimental album is tough bc i feel like the focus was more on throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. as a result you end up with an album that kind of curves left and right and occasionally hits right down the middle i think the fact that blue orchid and instinct blues are the best songs on the album really speaks to the fact that they didnt Need to experiment really. as much as i love the marimba in The Nurse, i dont think the rest of the album is all that special Probably a true 2.5 album, but I fuck with putting a marimba in a rock album and I appreciate that this was experimental so I'm giving it a 3
For me this is like delta blues meeting pop. Difficult not to like it, but also nothing I would listen for an extensive time. Rita Heigworth song is great!
I've never listened to a white strip album before. This one is different from what I expected. It's heavy on pianos. Drums are banging. And i really like Jack White's vocals. Unfortunately I don't find it consistently interesting Some are bangers, others sound more like unfinished ideas. I get the artistic version, but don't enjoy the execution. 1, 6 , 8, 11 are my favorites. A bit disappointed with this one. But the highs remain high! (There's a chance it needs extra listens that I can't give right now, so I'llpush it over the edge and give it a flat 3)
My old text for this got wiped and don't remember what I wrote oops. 60/100
Ok not very original
Yep, good
I was less impressed by this one than the previous Jack White album we had on here. It's missing the catchiness and energy I liked about that one, and I just generally didn't find this all that interesting. I did really enjoy the combination of the soothing marimba melody contrasted with the sudden loud noises in The Nurse, and there were some other fun moments, but it just never fully drew me in.
Correcto
#321/1001. I probably hadn't listened to this album before. First listen lifted out some interesting tunes and charming simplicity is present as always, but also my mind drifted away every now and then. Nothing against or for if I had to listen to it one more time before I die.
I quite enjoy Blue Orchid. the album's pretty alright, but not my favorite—I do see the potential, however.
Went into this album with high hopes and was pretty disappointed. Jack’s singing comes off as nasal-y and obnoxious, and many of the other instrumentals are just all over the place. Also wayyyyy more bluesy and folksy than I was ready for. And don’t get me started on the marimba
I like this album but it didn't suck me in. Maybe I need to listen again.
The hits on this album are very good. The rest of the album is above average, but I found myself getting bored as I listened. Not as many hooks as there were from albums like White Blood Cells. I think the issue is that the songs were longer without much added complexity. It's still something I would listen to, but fails to live up to previous albums by them.
Solid album. Not their best though. Enjoyed the listen through, but some weaker songs.
Bare bones rock record. Some of it feels like it was written on the fly; kinda has a live vibe to it sometimes. 3.0/5.0
It's ok, I didn't mind it too much for the most part but it didn't strike me either.
this dude would so call her pwincess and run a discord server geet be fun favorite song: the nurse
There is 2-3 great songs but i didnt fell it was that good of an album.
Not bad, but not great. Probably won't be revisiting anything off this album. 2.7/5
The album is pretty cool but I won’t say that it’s like a must listen before you die kinda cool. We jump through a couple of genres which is a bit confusing sometimes but sure. I quite like the last song
It's clear that the White Stripes know what they're doing and they do it well! They've got the formula down for creating catchy hooks and songs, but still nothing memorable from this album. It was just a fun listen. + Can't say I care much for the album cover
Album 146. Get Behind Me Satan (https://open.spotify.com/album/3rHeq4F5wnaLBjNtuz7Yvh?si=Stu2R7OkTaS0tDKodKUpcg) — The White Stripes (2005) It's okay, but nothing memorable. 3/5 No liked songs
Fine
The White Stripes have an inimitable sound and I would recognize it within just a couple seconds. But that’s not the same as recognizing the songs, and while there are some fun turns of phrase, these unfortunately blend together. It’s as if Jack White made “a White Stripes record” instead of making a record in his capacity as half of the White Stripes.
It sounds like Jack White did a 'writing an album in a week' challenge for a youtube video, threw all his best ideas at the beginning of the album and then had two days to finish the rest of the album in an adequate, but not particularly thrilling way. I also think that very making of video would have secretly been more entertaining than the second half of this album itself.
First song is a banger, but the rest of the album got a bit boring. I don't hate it, but it's missing a spark for me.
I love The White Stripes, but this album is just okay.
Mostly good, never great. One of their weaker albums
Местами, норм, в основном не оч
Some good musical and lyrical tracks mixed with some rubbish, just a three star for me
3/5. My least favorite white stripes album (which goes to show how consistent their discography is.) starts off with a the type of rocker you’d expect from the band (Blue Orchid) but after that the album shows its true hand, bringing in more piano and acoustic instrumentation. And the first half of this album is some good stuff whether it be the tense buildup of “the nurse”, the earworm “my doorbell” or the fun “little ghost.” but it begins to lose me a in the back half with a series of more meh stripes songs. Not bad by any means, but not my go-to stripes album.
Their penultimate album which now sounds as if it is moving towards Jack's solo career. They had started to experiment with new more unusual instruments and was critically well received but wasn't quite as successful as Elephant. I'm not sure I can differentiate much in their songwriting between albums a great deal, but its interesting to get some marimba and piano.
Kept two songs. A mix of music
Wasn't a big fan
A few good tunes in here, and a couple musical ideas that sound like they may have laid some of the ground work for one of my favorite of Jack White's other projects, The Raconteurs. As far as the White Stripes go, however, I wouldn't consider this one of their best. Decent listen overall
Out of all the The White Stripes albums to include, this one is probably the weakest that I have listened to. I think they’re a great band and they have a phenomenal catalog, most/all of their best songs were made before this album.
Zone out a bit. It's meh
Fairly good album
I like the White Stripes I guess. Seen them live, had a good time. They are VERY hit or miss. Some songs are absolutely great, then there is The Nurse. It's like a roller coaster where you get a good song, then a meh song, then a good song, then a why do this to me song. I'm honestly not sure why this album is on the list unless there are other albums of theirs on here. They have more solid albums than this. They are very very close to a greatest hits band.
Like this one more than Elephant, but is it really great? Good to hear My Doorbell again and I like the more experimental style that made it a bit more interesting to listen.
This starts off with a bang with "Blue Orchid" and "My Doorbell" but, other than some interesting songs here and there ("Little Ghost," "Take, Take Take," "As Ugky As I Seem"), it's mostly B-grade White Stripes. They do try out some different dynamics such as "The Nurse" and the Meg White sung "Passive Manipulation" but it really falls off in the second half. I would have "Icky Thump" on this list instead of this one.
My white-hot White Stripes take is that this is one of their weakest efforts. I honestly enjoy Icky Thump a lot more. I still like it overall, some good songs. I appreciate that they tried to expand their palette a bit more with songs like Little Ghost, getting into bluegrass/gospel territory. But the songs that are more traditional White Stripes sounding, feel more uninspired and throwaway. I do like I'm Lonely though, with its piano-driven blues. Get why people who don't like the band would be annoyed this is here, I don't think it's essential and not surprised it was removed, and I gave both Elephant and White Blood Cells fives.
meh
This is such a popular album Ive never listened to the whole thing. They yelled a lot but a couple songs at the end I enjoyed
There is a lot to like here. Firstly, the look and ethos of the band and Jack White later on does a lot of heavy lifting. Cool and interesting and based on solid old school blues and rock. As a palette cleanser to overproduced indie landfill of the time it screams authenticity even if it is contrived. There are obviously talented song writers at play here and their skill with their respective instruments is undoubted. I think the reason can't fall in love here is that it feels undeveloped. The songs are so inconsistent in tone, i checked a few times that my settings were not on shuffle. A lit of these songs song like demos and they are crying out for a 4/5 piece band to fully realise them. I know the simplicity is part of its charm, but it could be more.
There's nothing wrong with this, but it doesnt seem like an evolution or an upgrade on what has come before
심플함
Solid album, but not as good as the previous two. Probably the coolest and heaviest guitars, but the album isn't as consistent as previous ones.
Reminded me of Queen someone
3⭐️/5 [03.07.2026] 03.11.2026
I don't know. I like The White Stripe's albums like Elephant and White blood cells and this wasn't that good. I feel like the more grunge and rock sound suits them better. But this wasn't unlistenable and some track were surprisingly good.
Not too bad at all I dig the mandolin and keys. I really enjoyed several of the songs on this record.
3.5
Not my usual cup of tea, but i kind of like it. Bit noisey at times.
KILLER START TO THE ALBUM. The singles are really the standouts to me, tho they’re doing a lot of cool experimental stuff with the other songs. I feel like a lot of times when you hear “experimental” it’s just kind of weird but genuinely a lot of the weird choices add to the mood they’re kicking for, so that’s cool. Blue Orchid made it into my liked songs for that guitar hook Unfortunately… this album is the one where Jack white, famous for his technically excellent guitar work, is trying other shit besides the guitar. So I kind of miss it I’d give a 3.5/5 if the website let me, but I gotta round down I fear
One of the most confusing albums I've listened to on this list, I found myself leaning back and forth on the fence here. It seems like every song has something I like and something I don't whether its the instrumentation, the vocals, the genre, the mixing, any number of things. This album is all over the place stylistically, so that's maybe sort of what they were going for. And ultimately the more alt rock moments are still not up my alley, but at the very least I can see sparks of things I like with The White Stripes. Highlight: Blue Orchid Lowlight: Red Rain
The only White Stripes album I don't own anymore. Not that I hate it. I misplaced it. Suffered for years, looking at the empty CD case. Shouldn't have suffered so long. This isn't as great as I remembered. Some highs, some lows. Not fantastic, just average
While I am not particularly passionate about the White Stripes, I always enjoyed Get Behind Me Satan a lot. It’s way more restrained (in a good way), mature, cohesive and ahem… “experimental” (in a non-experimental way I guess) than what they had done before. These songs are given time to develop, and many of them are built around stirring motifs. Meg White’s drumming has never made more sense to me than on this record - it’s just fantastic, and the album wouldn’t work the same without her sparse backdrop, which allows the melodies and guitar licks to shine. I just love how intuitive her drumming is. Their symbiosis on this one - I think - is complete. Unfortunately though, they lose a bit of this momentum on the record’s B-side, where the songs tend to blend into each other.
I’ll always fuck with Jack White. Red Rain is a banger. He’s at his best when he’s laying it down like that. Not my favorite from The White Stripes, but def solid. The piano on the last track is friggin great. 3.5
(3) for an unfinished, half thought album, the album is better than what other artist would pull off. Jaco white self produced this album so he did not have anyone hearing it from a coaching view. So the album is unfinished. Self production is so hard to pull off, you end up not knowing how to arrange all your special pets. An example of this is the jarring effect between the first and second songs. The question is, “can anyone pull off producing their own material, or does it need an outside POV. I agreed with the Guardian, mojo, and EW: Guardian The material sounds frustratingly underdone - seeds of good ideas that might have flourished into something remarkable with more time and TLC. mojo When the approach works, the results are bracingly exploratory; when it doesn't they're frustratingly half-formed. EW Get Behind Me Satan is surprising, all right, but not always in the right ways ... Too many of the tunes — and Jack’s lyrics — are undercut by lurching, half-finished arrangements.
finally some good fucking food // det er myye rarere enn jeg trodde! det er ikke alt som funker for meg, men jeg koser meg jo. høydepunkt: The Denial Twist, White Moon, Passive Manipulation, As Ugly As I Seem
starts strong finishes week
Enjoyable and sounds like the start of something enormous... but it turns out this was their fifth album so now it sounds like something huge going back to bed. I like the homemade feel of the production, and playing live. And the noisy guitars underneath. A bit too Yankee doodle dandy for me in places, and I probably won't bother listening again. But i appreciate the vision and the sound. But why choose this one and not the groundbreaking ones?
Interesting ride listening to this one. First half grated on me a lot, it sounds like they stretched the 2 piece format as far as they could, and got a bit desperately experimental (Marimba! Piano! Unexpected blasts of guitar noise!). It all sounds a bit contrived. Once it settles in though, it's actually pretty good. Bits reminded me of Led Zep III, or Exile on Main Street, which is a good thing. Overall though, this feels like (and felt like at the time) the beginning of the end for them. I might also be a bit biased - the one time I saw them (Big Day Out 2006 I think?) was touring this, and i walked out - watching Jack White bash on a marimba in an enormodome with bad sound is not my idea of fun...
Started listening, and thinking...this could possibly be a four star album. As it progresses, it descended into three star territory, before closing with some two-star stinkers. Seems like that have an over-inflated opinion of their talents. One listen was enough.
Great, innovative music just not my cup of tea
meh, I can appreciate it, not love it
The White Stripes have a good sound and there are some good songs on this album, but I've never been a huge fan. Can take or leave this album to be honest.
Probably the most pleasant of their discography
Apart from Seven Nation Army, the White Stripes is another one of those bands that has never really made it into my music collection. They're not terrible, but they just never really caught my attention, and I think this album might be a good example of why. It feels a little unfinished and like it's trying too hard to be something more than it is. My Doorbell stands out, but otherwise an album of mostly okay tracks. Three and a half stars from me.
Not as good as "Elephant" which I listened to last month. Solid tracks all the way through but very little stood out, the record blended together and was not super memorable for me. My favourite track is the opener "Blue Orchid". 3/5 stars for this one.
I like The White Stripes but must admit: This is not the album you should listen to. Not even top 3.
The vocals could be better, this was just okay.
There’s some cool songs but it didn’t sweep me off my feet Trouble seeing how they’re considered one of the Greatest bands ever Jack White has a nice voice

I once heard an amazing quote about Kid A, it would be the greatest album of all time, if it had any songs on it. Get Behind Me Satan reminds me of that quote, but it’s not close to the goat (Kid A is). They do everything they can on here to not repeat themselves, at times it’s good. But mostly it’s just fine. 6.4/10
I'd say this is likely the best of The White Stripes albums we've listened to. Catchy, varied songs. I've always liked what I've heard from them, but none of it has really hooked me in to continue listening to them.
Three White Stripes albums on a list of 1,001? Is that a bit much? Yes! It's a good album, but as with previous White Stripes, their music starts to sound repetitive and I get bored quickly!
This album is 20 years old?! WTF. White Stripes have never been my jam. Solid album with some cool tracks but won't be coming back to it.
It was a good album, I'd never really listened to it because 7 nation army was so prevalant it was annoying. Good variety and enjoyable. Would give it 3.5 stars.
Decent but definitely not a must hear before you die
High highs low lows
Nowhere near as good as it's 2 predecessors. But tracks like Orchid, Doorbell, and Ugly make it fairly decent, even if they all seem like copies of past bangers. Not a fan of the kiddie songs like Little Ghost, but there are worse things in life.
How much marimba is too much? Not a question Jack White bothers himself with an album dripping in piano and marimba. It’s still the same formula though. Catchy garage rock that doesn’t hang about but does a load in the time it’s here
very much a singles band. I think JW just has like a million ideas with a 1% hit rate
My Doorbell //
Better than the paraplegic Robert Wyatt. But still not great.
I thought this White Stripes album was decent. Nothing impressive jumped out though
I kinda liked some of the songs like Little Ghost, but I was overall disappointed. Not bad but just not what I wanted
3.5
Hella decent
I went into this album with low expectations, since The White Stripes never really clicked for me before. But this album caught me off guard. There are a few weird tracks, but it still was stronger than I imagined. “Blue Orchid” stood out for me. This album didn’t make me a superfan, but it definitely earned my respect.
Had its moments but overall not my favorite of their releases.
I love the band, but this is one of their weaker albums. The sound is great, but the songs less so. If I'm in the mood for The White Stripes, it won't be this album that I turn to.
Icky Thump is better.
I gave this a few tries. There's a few great and catchy tracks like Blue Orchid and My Doorbell and some that grew like Little Ghost but I found it hard to love this. Quite a lot passed me by even on repeat listens.
Hmmm. I am split here. Black orchid is brilliant, but at the same time I feel there is a better song in there than what we got. Then there are some pretty ropey tracks, one where I'm sure the vocals are flat. Doorbell is ok, at least it harks back to the things the white stripes excelled at. I think I prefer denial twist as a track. My favourite on the album was the one meg sang I think. And then towards the end of the album it felt a bit more consistent and more white stripesy, but it doesn't have the same quality as some of their earlier efforts... If you're comparing it to other stripes albums it's not near the top, but by the end I didn't dislike it.
I can't believe this is my first time listening to The White Stripes, this is so much better than i expected. But some things felt out of place and I'm saving higher ratings for their other albums.
Not an amazing album, has some good songs 3/5
Gets a little wierd in places, not my favourite white stripes record.
Erilaista rokkia, vois sanoa melkein taide rokiksi. Levy on kanssa hyvin southern tyylinen, kantria, bluesia jne. Koittaa myös olla raaka ja siloittamaton. Suurin osa kappaleista jää vähän ookooksi sen takia. Blue Orchid kuitenkin bängeri tietenkin. Parhaat: Blue Orchid, As Ugly As I Seem
Knew a couple of the songs and the rest of the album did just pass me by.
I enjoyed, but not sure why this is a must listen too. Good reminder of the white stripes. Added a song to my playlist
Je n'avais jamais pris le temps de trop écouter les White Stripes. Je ne sais si cet album est la meilleur porte d'entrée, 2 écoutes necessaires pour me faire mon avis : essayer d'autres albums.
I don't think I'd ever heard any of these songs. First song was amazing and I was thinking this is going to be the hidden gem I was missing out on. But the rest just sound like the White Stripes and nothing stood out like the first track. I didn't hate this album or love it. I kept thinking of other songs by the White Stripes I did know already and how these weren't as strong. Is this their best album? Why must I listen to this before I die? (How many more of their albums are on the list?)
Elephants is still better 3.5/5
It was nothing special. While i am able to apreciate the experimental parts, the album falls a little flat.
the white stripes dont really do it for me

Yeah okay whatever
It was meh but The White Stripes does make good music like 7 Nation Army but I did feel bored by this album.
Kinda disappointed by this one, to be honest. I'm usually a big White defender but this was just a series of forgettable rock tracks strung together by a couple passable singles. Fav tracks: My Doorbell, The Denial Twist
Really catchy. Never quite sure how to evaluate their significance.
A criticism I have of doing this project so far is the number of repeat artists on the list. Too much Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bowie, too much Metallica, far too much Morrissey etc. Some, I’m sure, can probably be included more than once as their sound changes, but some, like Morrissey are shitter as a solo artist so what’s the point. I like the White Stripes. I like this album. It’s quirky. But I’ve already listened to two other White Stripe albums (and a solo Jack White album) that are not that discernible from this. Even the album covers look similar FFS! I get it. I get their sound. Sadly, this means other artists, who in the name of eclecticism, should more likely be included on here, but are sadly omitted. This was fine, but could have told you that from listening to one album.
A classic white stripes record. A lot of interesting and creative production choices on this one, but for me it gets a bit repetitive as an album listen.
3.5/5
Blue Orchid was the highlight. Bit hit and miss for me.
I really like Jack White, but have always found The White Stripes fairly underwhelming. Still, this record does have some interesting moments on it, and I like the heavy blues vibe that a lot of the songs have. 3/5.
Not the best White Stripes record though I like the fact they tried to do something a bit different. Some of it lands, but not enough.
Little Ghost and Blue Orchid were pretty good. I'm definitely into the minimalism of this album. But it kinda feels generic.
its actually funny to me that this album was like a tremendous disappointment by the time it finished. its really not bad, i guess i just wanted seven nation army for 40 minutes and didnt get it? Blue Orchid was dope though
its average. i liked 2 songs tho
Häviää Ursukselle
Vähän erikoista mutta ei huono. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Siellä oli vähä kaikenlaista! Ihan ok.
garage. rockish, chill.
Blue Orchid is great. Otherwise has some good moments, some slight, annoying ones.
I like the white stripes but this is the weakest album of theirs i have had. It feels under done and half complete.
Echt niet de vibe voor de dag dus niet echt geluisterd
habían partes buenas y otras en las que solo estaba como ???

5/10
I had Jack White's solo album for album 36, but this is the first White Stripes album I've had. Just a few songs in, it's clear that this album is not just the basic, garagey, yet infectiously catchy rock they are best known for. It's an attempt to broaden the sonic palate of the band with piano ballads and even some vibraphone here and there. This doesn't make for a bad album, because Jack White can write songs that are good and enjoyable, something all too many of the project's 2000s offerings lack(see my average rating for the 2000s compared to all other decades).
Pleasant enough, but unfortunately it went straight in one ear and out the other. Definition of 6/10 music for me.
I love the White Stripes but I don’t think this is their best work unfortunately. Still fine overall with some solid tracks but I could forget a lot of them.
I feel like this has to be the weakest White Stripes album I've ever heard. I see the experimentation and I appreciate it, but it comes off as more unfocused than genius.
I think this album is for somebody. Unfortunately, it was not for me. There was only one song on this album that I could see myself listening to; the rest wasn't for me.
Elephant is a magical album. This album reaches higher and lands lower. I appreciate that Jack wanted to expand from his blues-loving-punk-rocker roots. And he is, undoubtedly, a brilliant song-writer and producer. The problem, for me, is he tried to create a great studio album but his voice and Meg's drums still - technically speaking - suck. And while that suck is PERFECT for a spontaneous (sounding) flood of punk rock, they work decidedly against the higher-concept songs that Jack, the Songwriter, and Jack, the Producer, offer here. Too, the redundancy of his songwriting - again effective on a spontaneous (sounding) punk album - come across, in this effort at higher-concept, as lazy.
наверно музыкально они могли бы быть увлекательны если бы я могла пережить задавленное пение и под нотами
It’s an interesting album. The lyrics are often engaging, the production choices are innovative and the instruments are all given plenty of space. What it lacks in consistency, it makes up for with charisma. I’m not sure I’d return to it, but I definitely enjoyed it.
Was relieved to hear/see an artist I actually knew! Then realized I haven't actually heard any White Stripes songs besides the popular ones. I enjoy the musicality but some songs were so short and the vocals were too quirky for my liking.
I don't have much to say. Very rocky rock.
I love the creativity behind the arrangements on this record and the search for new colors while never sacrificing the band’s addition-by-subtraction vision. At its best, it has a mixtape feel, where every song feels substantively different from the last. Unfortunately, this quality is a bit lacking in the back half. There are some experiments that don’t work (looking at you, ‘The Nurse’) and some outstanding songs with stunning production, but overall the songs are a little slight emotionally. It’s a fun listen, but not one that really stays with you. Favorite song: Forever for Her (Is Over For Me)
Pretty alright
Good album I’d not heard before, but not as good as others
I like them, this is a new one for me. Not as reecognisable as previous ones
5/10
I enjoyed this well enough, but by no means loved it. First things first, it's too long. An album of fun but unremarkable garage rock simply must end after 45 minutes, and this drags. But still, they're a good band and I like it, I'm struggling to say much more to be honest.
I’m kind of a Jack White hater, but this had some really good tracks
There's a few songs on here that I absolutely love. And some others that feel a bit more like filler to me. Overall it's a really fun album
I feel as though this album opened with an absolute banger, that being Blue Orchid. and just continued to drop off until it finished. I will need to give this a 2nd listen though as I was distracted with work as well as being a bit sick... (Cursed holiday flu) I will say though, Meg White is a phenomenal drummer. 7/10?
Not really my flow tbh but it’s fine 5/10
It is not my favorite, but I got to know this group. Their music is interesting.
Another white Stripes album. Cool cool cool.
Two hits surrounded by uninspiring forgettable songs.
Não faz meu estilo
Could've benefited from more stripes than red, white, and black
really enjoyed some cherry picked songs like blue orchid, instinct blues, red rain but the others just didn’t work as intended
Fun as usual. They branched out a bit in this one.
idk how to feel
i’m definitely going to add some of the songs in this album to my playlist
A few could songs on this LP. Good musicianship and lyrical content.
Pretty good - They were stretching

Sinto que preciso de ouvir outra vez, não me conquistou
This was good, I enjoyed listening to it, and I love the Detroit roots. It's simply not at the same level as other albums I have rated four stars (hunky dory, brothers in arms, fragile, low end theory, doggystyle, for example).
A couple of songs that stand out but overall not as strong as some of their other work.
this is not the white stripes album for me
Meh. Same after same and noticed to exciting. Not bad, but not great.
Hmm...
Joo on tätä tullut joskus kuunneltua. Ei ehkä parasta vait straipsia. Perusidea tästä tulee läpi siitä missä pumpussa on kyse, mut biisit rupee vähän tylsistyttämään. Kivaa erilaist rokkii.
Ei missään nimessä parasta WS:a. Mutta ihan kivaa kuunneltavaa. My Doorbell oli ainut entuudestaan tuttu biisi.
An overall solid project with some standout songs.
Fun album. I only knew seven nation army and never really cared for the white stripes, but I found it quite decent, and might listen to more of their work. Overall solid album, but no real wow factor. My favourite song is probably The Nurse, it's different, but I liked it. Also amazing drummer!
Umm it's not my favourite, probably won't listen again, maybe a couple of the last tracks but yea
Schräges, gutes Album, für mich aber kein Vergleich zu "Elephant" oder "White Blood Cells".
They have a lot better but I still liked the songs fairly much, intro is obviously a great song
Has some good to great songs, but many of them are not at all memorable.
My least favorite white stripes by quite a bit - still has blue orchid, the denial twist, and take, take, take!
3/5
it was alright, good listen
Ok but is a bit eirrrie
At the time of release, this was probably my least favorite White Stripes album. Not really because it was bad, but more because I was into the garage-rock sound and feel they had on their prior releases. GBMS didn't have much of that and felt kinda lame in contrast. My Doorbell made me roll my eyes and sigh with boredom. Looking at the album now, I can appreciate it more. The album's diversity is really its strength. GBMS includes piano ballads, marimba pieces, folk music, and some of the harder tracks they were known for. No two songs on here sound much alike, and any section of three you pick will cover at least a couple distinct areas of musical ground. Even with the distinct musical differences, there is still a feeling that they all belong on the album together. My two favorite songs on here are two that exemplify the differences- Blue Orchid and Ugly As I Seem. The first is pretty much a metal song, with distorted guitar running the show. The second is a soft acoustic track lamenting how the speaker views himself (despite what others may see instead). Most of the other tracks are good too, regardless of their style. I still think My Doorbell kind of sucks, though. So for the real question of whether this is something that I needed to hear before I die? Honestly, I'm not so sure. As someone who has listened to a lot of White Stripes, I'm probably a little biased in their favor. But, even with how much I like some of the songs on this album, I would consider it more as OK/good than good/great. Overall: 3.3/5
I know the White Stripes are a thing but this did not ring my (door)bell.
I LOVED the White Stripes when they first debuted - especially White Blood Cells. Over time the novelty wained and I enjoyed their singles more than albums. There are a number of gems here especially My Doorbell, Denial Twist, and I’m Lonely. But this album falls short of “love” for me. I might one it on for a bit but would not listen on repeat. 3/5
Not convinced this deserves a place in the list. White Blood Cells and Elephant, yeah sure. This is a lesser White Stripes album. No bad thing, it's got some good stuff on here, but it's a little inconsistent and is not, in my opinion, essential.
fun. probably more formative than i realize
Doing their thing. Blue Orchid is fun to play if you are in a band.
I just don’t think this one is as good as some of their other work. Still an interesting listen, but I can’t rate it alongside the others that are on my re-listen list
All White Stripes music sounds the same.
The sound of the White Stripes is unique and draws me in, but the songs offered here are often too simple and unsubstantial to make fulfilling use of that sound
127 Pucha, estaba super entusiasmada con escuchar este disco, era de los cuales quise amar, pero sólo me gustó. Yo creo que pasó la vieja y no llegó a mi en el momento para amarlo.
Unmistakably The White Stripes, but also their least typical sounding album. Overall, there’s far less of Jack White’s typical screeching guitar and far more piano - and very bare bones playing at that. Though I guess it fits their stripped back aesthetic. Probably one of their patchier and less essential records, but it still features a couple of their best songs.
#765. Blue Orchid is great, and the rest of it is fine too, I guess. 3/5: acceptable
For 2005 music, this is reasonably decent. It’s mostly alternative rock, plus a touch of blues and bluegrass. I don’t know any if these songs, but the album is easy to listen to. Nothing stands out as unforgettable, however.
Another rock countdown staple! They're not as hated-by-me as the Mars Volta, but not one of my favorites, either (I don't have this album, even digitally, and from 2005 I have a lot of albums). A lot of loud guitar/drum stuff, and the vocals aren't particularly appealing. Lotta shakers. I felt very defensive of Meg White because people made fun of her drumming so much, not that I know anything about what makes for good drumming. A lot of people also got confused about if Jack & Meg were married or siblings (a classic). And now they're neither! 'My Doorbell' deserves particular attention for being one of the most intrusive songs of all time. I think of it approximately once a week. One of my greatest song pet peeves is absurd repetition, which this has in droves (c.f. Avril rhyming "dead" with "dead" or the "sucking on a chili dog" youtube edit of Jack and Diane). 'Red Rain' sounds a lot like 'Blue Orchid', which I assume is intentional.
definitely not their best album imo but good nonetheless
Production is a little muddy for my taste but still a good record
So I gave "Elephant" a 3 and this is worse... Scraping through to another 3, but barely. 3/5
3.23
I don't like Jack White but I tolerate him. He's inovative, a decent guitar player and an advocate for analog and long-forgotten groups. However, every Jack White song sounds like every other Jack White song and the collection of Jack White songs on this album are not the best Jack White versions of Jack White songs the Jack White has Jack White'd. 3/5
Genre: Blues Rock A totally serviceable rock album from the aughts, with some decent tracks here and there, but it seems this was a major “of the times” pick. A commercial success at the time, but has not had the critical legacy they may have expected. It’s fine, and easy to listen to, but not necessary for inclusion here. 3/5
Interesting pick for a White Stripes album. A very solid output (as expected), but it never reached the heights it could.
I listened to the first few songs and got kinda bored I was wanting more filling music so yeah it isn't bad but current me doesn't appreciate it a lot dad likes them, so I kinda do too
I've never been the biggest fan of the White Stripes, but I enjoy many of the songs of theirs that I have heard, and I can see why they've been called the last (or at least most recent) great rock band. The sound on many of their hits has leaned a little too much toward garage rock for my preferences, but I took this album to be a pretty substantial shift away from their typical sound. It's no surprise to me that Blue Orchid is the most popular song off the album, as it's really the only track that sticks closely to the propulsive bluesy garage rock formula that made the White Stripes such a big name. Most of the other songs depart from this style and, in my opinion, achieve mixed success. My Doorbell is my favorite song from the album by a pretty wide margin. I also love the use of marimba on The Nurse, though the randomly spaced guitar and drum inserts detract from a great vibe. The album loses some steam on the second side, hence the rating. The band were playing with some interesting ideas, though. I'll be returning to this out sheer curiosity if nothing else.
I wouldn’t call it a boring listen and I feel like I should like this album more, but I didn’t. Maybe I need more time with it, but for now its a 6-7/10. There’s some interesting stuff on here, and there were a few songs I enjoyed.
Some bangers, not overall an amazing album for me.
I am a huge White Stripes fan, but this is my least favorite of their work. The challenge with the White Stripes is they are uncompromising, which I highly respect, but it makes for a lot of hit or miss music, a lot of experimental stuff, and a lot of genre switches, so you will never love an entire album, but when you make a personal greatest hits of them, it would be GREAT, and very different for every person, which is super cool. I like their heavier, more guitar driven stuff, but I appreciate that they can make stuff that sounds like this. When it comes to what rock music has sounded like from about 2005-2020, for FIFTEEN years I think no band had a bigger influence on the genre than the White Stripes. I could name a dozen bands that made it pretty big that copied the White Stripes sound. I think they are one of the top 10 most influencial bands in defining modern rock.
A change of pace for the White Stripes! Definitely get to see a lot more of Jack White’s musical abilities. I liked it, but I don’t know that I’ll ever listen to it again.
Loved it then, love it now.
