Reviews (page 11 of 12)

favourite songs - down to zero, somebody who loves you and tall in the saddle

Like I’m not obsessed. But we need to bring the keyboard back like how they used to use it. It’s so funky

The Aldi verdion of Tracy Chapman

I really loved Down to Zero but found myself losing interest around halfway.

not my vibe

It's decent, but kinda slow and not really for me.

Soft asmr type energy sleepy time tunes

Obviously very talented and at times I thought I would like it. However, I found it very dull and just not my cup of tea.

It’s another one of those albums which feels well set up, produced and with some good musicians (particularly the drums, and hey presto looking at the personnel there are two drumming greats). But here comes the but, the song writing just feels very flat, not one single song moved me an inch. We move on….

nothing wrong with the album just didnt vibe with it. HM: water with wine, save me

Never heard of this album or artist before, but I know there's only one genre you can belong to with an album named after yourself. That's right. More folky, singer-songwriter music. Might as well just crack this one open. Yup, on the money. Too easy with this genre, really. Anyways, this is fine. It's hard to feel strongly about folk, but for what this is it's a pretty alright time. There's a good bit of variety in the instrumental, and Armatrading is a solid vocalist. Admittedly, it loses my attention early on and I was left trailing behind for most of this album, but in all fairness I'm lethargic as fuck right now. "Down to Zero" is a good opener. There's a bit of an interesting blues/country influence in the instrumental, and Armatrading provides a solid vocal performance. "Help Yourself" is a better follow-up. The instrumentation is pretty great - very soothing. The acoustic guitars are very nice, and the atmospheric sounds hanging in the background is also pretty good. It kind of drags, but that first half is very solid. Book time. Where Armatrading fully realised her creative talent. Wide array of influences. Not sold yet - over to Wikipedia I go. Charted well in the UK. The album's producer said it was his favourite project. Decent critic backing. I meeeeeeean, this could do with a snub, right? The number of mega-influential, mega-successful, mega-acclaimed albums in the world surely exceeds the arbitrary 1001 limit, right? If only I had 1001 albums I liked that weren't already on this list, though I'm sadly a miserable bastard and probably only have a hundred. All this to say that I guess I can let this one slide. It's way less offensive than some of the other nobody albums on this list. I cosign this inclusion.

Like disco Tracy Chapman

I have no memory of ever listening

It's a nicely recorded album. But lacks memorable tracks.

Melhor do álbum: "Like Fire". Pior do álbum: "Down To Zero".

A fistful of wistful.

Ok wow lots of musical talent. Like instrumentally this album is stunning. My biggest glaring problem with this album is I just didn’t like Joan’s voice. Totally a personal and subjective take but there were only a few tracks I saved cause I truly didn’t enjoy her voice on these tracks. I would however, love to hear more from her cause musically I’m definitely a fan of what she creates, but put off by the vocals unfortunately.

Not really my cup of tea. Some decent tunes in here but very samey the whole way through.

Giving this a 2 - not really for me. Enjoyed the instrumentality but none of the songs really jumped out to me. Appreciated the wide range of instruments used — slide, synth, saxophone. I think today this album would just be an acoustic guitar

Was completely unfamiliar with this artist. Quintessential 70s sound, reminds me of background music to that 70s show. Not my favorite but still enjoyable

Not my jam

Not bad at all, just not really my cup of tea. I can appreciate the quality. Her voice is strong and the production is clean, but the album didn't fully connect with me. Still, “Water With the Wine” and “People” stood out as highlights and felt more emotionally resonant. If half-stars were an option, this would probably be a 2.5. But since I’ve given stronger albums a 3, this lands at a 2. Solid effort, just not something I see myself revisiting.

A couple good songs here, but not an enjoyable listen.

ne zha

It’s fine? Can’t tell if this is just another provincial curio. But, of interest to The Wire fans - and I coincidentally happen to be doing a s2 rewatch this week - is Clarke Peters showing up adding his quite sonorous baritone (Lester Smooth!) to one tune. Alas, that’s about all that pops for me. Somebody Who Loves You has a pretty stellar melody and I feel like someone ripped it off, but I can’t place who or when.

decent folky album

Not for me

She has a pretty great voice, but there is nothing noteworthy going on here musically or lyrically.

Like Fire liker jeg. Tall in the Saddle er faktisk også ganske decent.

A mix between Joni Mitchell and Janis Joplin. I enjoy it and mum would really like it but it just wasn’t the vibe today.

Can't help but see the positives in this album despite it not making me feel much. The guitar work and vocals are brilliant, and there is a soulful feel to the record that does sit well. However, there wasn't a single moment on this album that made me feel anything special. It's a pleasant enough listen but I imagine I won't remember too much about it.

Love and Affection

I really enjoyed the first track, but unfortunately the rest didn't really hit those same notes for me.

Who the hell is this person?

Pretty folksy

really wanted to like it but just didn’t

No private session used for Spotify and know idea what I was getting in to. Judging a book by the cover it will be in the 70's style of complicated acoustic guitar behind mumbly singing. But no, guitar yes, definitely not mumbly singing, nice voice with minimal backing instrumentation. Singer songwriter stuff.

Down to Zero. Never heard this album before. Nice drum sound. Really pop with a warmth. Beautiful steel as well. Great rhythm and timing in her singing. Help yourself. This turned funcky a minute or so in! Water with the wine. Enjoyed this in a musical, tell a story type of way. Love and affection. Save me. Im not clicking with this album. Not terrible but not one ill come back to again and again. Maybe a couple of tracks. Join the boys. This is one i might come back to. Would be a great live song i reckon. People. Nice organ solo in this followed by a guitar solo with a great sound. Somebody who loves you. OK. Like fire. Nice groove to the guitar. Nice laid back feel buy not aure it goes anywhere for me. Tall in the saddle. Dont mind this. Not a fan of the guitar solo in- a bit lackimg texture/all yhe aame volume. Something about her voice. She is a good singer, has good range, some interesting tremello other probably quite difficult and technical bits but at times her voice sounds a bit all in the mouth. I dont know her ao well. Maybe she was ne er known as a singer but more of a composer or arranger? There’s some good variety in terms of what she does with her voice and its not over the top lile a guy sebastian type ‘hey i can sing’ so it maoes sense from that POV.

At first I thought I was really going to dig this, but it ended up feeling kind of blah

Folksy. Nothing very original or memorable .

it's ok, a bit blant

Just couldn’t get into this one

Fajne do pocholpwania zeby w moim wielkiem dwu piertowym domu lecialo na winuly albo glosnikach

This was not my style of music for the most part but I did enjoy the last song.

In one ear out the other

Felt like one crappy song

Artiste inconnue. =>2/5

Niet heel interessant

Would have been easy enough even without the wikipedia piece above to pick out "Love and Affection" and "Tall in the Saddle" as the "best" songs on the album, as they definitely stood out against the rest. This just wasn't for me though.

Jazzy folk-pop album from the mid-70s. Musically inoffensive and even inmemorable, lyrically more provoking, but the songs blend together too much. She is talented but this album isn't really my thing.

The lady has a great voice, thought provoking lyrics & clearly talented but her album leaves me cold. I didn't dislike the album at all but unless I focused, I would just forget it was even playing. Not one track stood out for me in a good or bad way. I'll give it two stars because of the very obvious talent (you gotta be deaf not to hear it) that Joan Armatrading has but I would never play her album again that said... if it (a song from her album) was playing on the jukebox at the pub no doubt, I would like it well enough but would none the less ask my date for money to load the juke box with an hour's worth of music that actually excites me.

She is not bad at all. The lyrics are good, the music more diverse than your average guitar-wielding singer-songwriter, but it is still singer-songwriter so far too boring/slow for me.

Boring

Off the cuff remark: I thought I would be more familair with this than I am but having listened through I am not overly surprised. I liked it less than I wanted to. Singer-songwriter that just doesn't capture my attention. Standout track: Love and Affection, but even this I felt I knew less than I thought I did and it was okay rather than special. Revisit?: wouldn't think so.

This was a nice playlist, I liked the song "Help yourself"! Though none of the songs would be something I would listen to regularly so none of them will be added to my new playlist.

Based on the reviews, I expected to like this. Didn't really enjoy it, though it's fine.

Just didn't do anything for me. I'd listen to it a second time to see if it hits different on repeat, but I don't want to.

This was a perfectly okay 70s album from another artist I don't think I've heard of before. None of the songs were familiar but it was very 70s studio. "Armstrading" sounds a lot like Christine McVie also, and I guess Tracy Chapman is the American version of "Armstrading."

2.4 Honk minimmimi

Good voice but very bland

Enjoyable easy listening album. Highlights were Down to Zero, Water with the Wine, Save Me, and Tall in the Saddle

Not really my vibe

Good but not my taste.

I'd only recently heard of Joan Armatrading through her song I'm Lucky, which I liked a lot, so I'm a little disappointed by this album which is absolutely fine but nothing for me to write home about. Out of interest I listened to Walk Under Ladders (featuring I'm Lucky) and I did prefer it to this, so I might explore more Joan Armatrading in future.

It's ok, but I've had my fill of folk and singer singer writer stuff over the past 2 weeks, so I might be a little biased.

The collection of songs seemed non-cohesive. Her unique style of singing was recognizable throughout, but some songs sounded like they were recorded by completely different bands, or written by different songwriters with different grooves in mind. Enjoyed a couple of songs, but the album as a whole had me all over the place.

Not a big folk guy

Pleasant

Lyrical?

It was okay. First half is quite boring but the second half gets better with songs like People and the closing track Tall In The Saddle. Probably won't ever listen to it in full again.

Oh no, Joan, I’m sorry. I don’t like this.

I like the music. The voice, not so much. Would be interesting to hear another artist cover some of these, I think there is potential if someone with a good voice would sing them. (Or maybe just a voice I like) 2.

Far better than I expected. 2.5/5

Not for me

- Singer/Songwriter - Country Vibes - Beautiful guitar accents - „Save me“: beautiful emotional song - Some jazzy songs - Overall, a little too slow for me. However, the album contains a few beautiful ballads.

Helt okej men inget märkvärdigt, lär inte vilja lyssna igen.

Not my cup of tea, but enjoyed some tracks

Pretty middle-of-the-road stuff here.

Meh songs

Completely an average album - so why is it on the list?

It wasn't at all bad it just wasn't for me!

I rate love and affection a 2 star because its not really for me but the singing is good and the instruments are good. I rate down below zero a 2 star because its not really for me but the singing is good and the instruments are good. I rate Somebody who loves you a 2 star because its not really for me but the singing is good and the instruments are good.

Song: love and affection this song is good i guess I've never heard of this before but it is kind of weird i would not listen to this if it was on the radio Song: down to zero this one is good i like this one this might be my favorite song in this album but I've never heard of it, but i guess this album is starting good so far Song: somebody who loves you this song is good i guess i never heard of it before but i do not really like it yea i think down to zero is my favorite one in this album i guess i do not really like this album because i never heard it and i do not know if the singer is a girl or a boy because in the first song it sounded like a girl the second song is a boy then the third one is kind of a mix of both so ya

I don't like this song because the beat is not good. I would not recommend this song. I don't like this song because the beat is not that good. I would not recommend this song.

I don't like this because his instruments are not going well with the lyrics and melody. I would not recommend this to someone else because I don't think they would like it. I give this 2 stars.

the first song is not that good i dont really like how quiet it is at the start and i also dont like how little instruments are at the start i also dont like how she sings. the next song is also bad there is not much of a difference between the songs i dont have much more to say. the last song is okay i dont like any of these songs though there is not much to say about this song still. overall i dont like this album i would not recommend it.

A really good voice but the songs just don't appeal to me at all. 2 stars or D+.

kinda boring 4/10

There's a few nice songs here, but overall the album is a little dull.

It was okay. Liked the guitar.

Has moments but didn't fully click with me. Not terrible but just kind of meh.

Probably not an album I would spend much time with. This is a 2 rating.

Joan, I tried. It was okay, but nothing I want to revisit.

Not my forte. Folksy I guess. Vocals are nice at times.

i definitely got tracy chapman vibes, i loved the acoustic sounds. very chill album!

Gear: ZMF Bokeh Artwork: 🆒🆒🆒 Production: 🎧😘🤌 Music: 🌍🍷🕯️ Rating: 👁️‍🗨️👁️‍🗨️(👁️‍🗨️)/5

not really my thing, she has a nice voice but just boring

Meh. Just mid.

It's okay but not something I would want to listen to.

If Stevie Nicks and that one choir lady from church fused into an artist. It's not my thing, but I can tell she's talented and it didn't make me sad like some previous artists have.

Kinda forgettable 💀

Meh...

Great album, i really enjoyed singing along and thinking of the last time I heard those songs. really a nice time.

Decent folk rock. She has a good voice. Doesn't really grip me heavily though.

Ouin.

Sounds like an album that influenced a huge amount of artist. Not really my thing, but still solid songwriting.

Neal’s album today was ZZ Top’s Eliminator. This was a welcome breath of fresh air after that. It’s not really my jam, but she’s got a nice voice and some decent songs. Water in the Wine gave some date-rape vibes I wasn’t so into though.

It wasn’t bad, but I’m just getting really tired of 1970s music

Biiseissä on selviä merkkejä yrityksestä välttää geneerisyyttä pysyen silti genren sisällä. Lopputulos on ihan ok muttei innostava (paitsi ehkä vika biisi). 2+

Folksy, not very memorable.

I guess it's okay but this "singer-songwriter" thing solo artists have isn't for me.

Often compared to Tracy Chapman, I thought I'd enjoy this, but it was just boring

Five stars for "Down to Zero," everything else is a little bland

Tracy Chapman owes her entire mediocre career to this woman.

Seemed ok, not really my taste.

I like her voice and the bluesy roots, but the tunes were not especially interesting.

Nothing really wrong with it necessarily. It's just not for me.

Aw man. This is one of those albums I feel bad for more than anything. It just has no staying power. I can’t remember anything about this, and it sounds incredibly dated and it never really has any passion?

quite boring at the beginning. got a little more exciting towards the end. 2/5

there is nothing wrong with this but it really did nothing for me. could i write poetry to this? n

Armatrading's label as the "Black-British-Joni Mitchell" is not unwarranted. Her vocal delivery is very similar, but lyrically is not nearly as interesting. The musicianship is high-caliber. Beyond the hit, "Love and Affection", this album failed to keep my attention on any one song for very long.

Liked the first track, that's about it.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to be, honestly. It's not bad, per se, but there's nothing about this that is good. There's some really odd vocal musical choices. There were a couple of songs that got me to nod along, while mindlessly listening. But any time I pay attention to this album, I just kind of wish I didn't. Again, not because it's bad. It's not bad, but it's uninteresting, and not committed to be anything in particular. Favorite Song(s): Somebody Who Loves You

Alright music, nothing stood out to me though

Tracy Chapman, but from Temu.com.

i’m not sure about this album

No recollection of any song after listening.

Liked the first song, that's about it.

Join the boys was funky and enjoyed. Bass is solid. Love and affection has some nice sax but otherwise just sounded like another ballad. Overall album was just fine. Wouldn’t be upset if someone put it on but don’t think I’d go out of my way to listen again. If I could give half stars I’d give a 2.5.

The Good: A self-titled album is always nice! The Bad: you got to be into folky singer-songwriter music… The Ugly: I don’t belong to the group that is into this kind of music… Yes, she is important for music… but that doesn’t mean that she is important enough for me to care. The listening experience was non-memorable, and that should say enough… 2* because I’m not evil

Not bad. Some good songs, mostly mediocre songs. Not my favorite, not anything I'd seek out, but not anything I'd skip if it was on someone else's radio.

It was okay

What in the Joni Mitchell was this

I have heard of Joan - but did not know much about her. For some reason I had also assumed she was American. I had also heard the song Love and Affection, which I love, but I did not know she sang it. Overall, this is a pleasant album and very much of its time.

If this isn’t on the soundtracks of any and all movies about a woman in her 50s finding herself faced with divorce and discovering a new side of herself I’ll eat my hat. Teasing aside, this was actually pretty enjoyable. If you like strong women with guitars this may be for you. (ntm.)

I really tried with this one, but it just didn’t land. The whole album feels flat and lifeless, and nothing about it made me want to keep listening. Her voice is fine, but the songs are bland and forgettable, almost as if they’re afraid to take any risks. Nothing here stands out or leaves much of an impression. I kept waiting for a spark or even a catchy hook, but I just found myself zoning out. Maybe there’s something here for fans of soft, safe singer-songwriter stuff, but for me it was boring and completely uninspired.

Not so great, although I'd like the guy from "Love and Affection" to record my voicemail.

Not really my cup of tea but a few interesting songs on there

Honestly, it's just not for me. She has a wonderful voice, and the instrumental work is great, but I just could not care less about any of the tracks on this album. I'm giving it a low score due to personal preference, not because it's a "bad" album

Funkier than expected.

Another album that I question why is this on the list? It is pretty mediocre throughout. Perhaps Joan Armatrading was a pioneer or paved the way for like artists... But still, the music isn't bad, it's just ok. It hits straight down the middle. I really have a hard time not Thu king the author of this list doesn't really have a clue of what a list like this should entail.

Not bad, but definitely not a fan.

The music is fine, but her voice really isn’t my cup of tea. Her low register sounds like Hootie and the Blowfish… and her falsetto is kind of screechy. :(

Overplayed 99s FM radio, but def a talented lady with a great voice, 2 stars

It’s pretty music but didn’t land for me. 2.5/5

It was a nice blues/rock mix, but nothing about it really stood out to me.

not bad, but not my style

Desperate call for Tracy Chapman

It was fine. Didn't really feel special 😐

Man, nobody makes records like this anymore... and there's a reason for that. This album is a patchwork of styles that doesn't feel cohesive at all. I guess the idea was to cast a wide net to bring disparate listeners in, but it falls flat for me.

A bit boring

Very meh

A beautiful voice with some nice guitar playing. Not much more than that, and not much I'd probably return for. But I did enjoy it for the most part while it was on

Middle of the road folk rock with some blues and funk inspiration. Strong voice (which I personally don’t care for), weak lyrics. Background music for grownups. File under: vaguely soulful music that bores the shit out of me.

Listened while commuting. Nothing overly out of place, but absolutely nothing to remember either.

Not a bad album and very talented singer but just nothing that really that made me want to listen again.

Nett. 2,5

Niet mijn ding. Wel mooi. Nog nooit van Joan Armatrading gehoord. Wellicht valt het later wel goed.

Interesting voice, but musically there wasn't that much to analyze.

Enjoyable enough but not any songs that I can see myself putting on repeat. It's not really my cup of tea.

Really enjoyed the sound of her voice but the album wasn't really memorable for me.

Great voice, sort of a mellow folky style of music, but in the end just not really for me. I would give it a 2.5 if I could.

mom ahh music

Don't get me wrong, it's funky as, but the lyrics are not much and the album gets very repetitive. Maybe I'm just not the kind of guy for this music and I hate to say it but I find this very generic.

Not really my style.

Legalzinho.

She has an interesting voice, but I’m not particularly captivated with the writing or overall sound of the album. I was looking for more of a standout element, but couldn’t find anything I particularly loved.

Background tunes… happy Tracy Chapman

There was the briefest time in my life when I gave Joan’s music a try. Probably thought it’d make me a more sensitive. Couldn’t justify a good reason to stick with her. I just don’t like it.

Dry Toast

Had some great funky baselines and jazzy moments, but I feel like Joan never really hits her stride and pops off…the whole album sort of feels like a performance you’d hear in a really ritzy hotel lobby.

Ok. Strong voice. Very talented.

okay, pretty decent album, nothing too exciting but it was nice old-sounding having it in the background, so not too bad

Alright

Another album with high critical acclaim that I was looking forward to listening to, but I’d written it off as monotonous by the third track. Not for me.

Good jazz singer. Great voice. Never got the credit she deserves.

It's really good. But compared to some amazing albums at 3, this has to be a 2.

boring

Oh, this is not for me. Love and Affection is a good song, but the rest of this record just makes no impression on me. It pains me to rate this album so low, because black and female artists are woefully under-represented on this list, let alone black female artists, but I not in a mood to give this a pass.

Just plain boring, like all of these folk albums. One extra star because it sounds decent sometimes.

I can hear that she's a good singer/songwriter, that's for sure. Not my jam, though.

Production sounds good, but this just isn't my cup of tea.

The songs were not bad yet not really good. And I must admit I hate her voice...

Kinda boring generic 70s folk. Could have been a Joni Mitchell album. Love and affection was the stand out track

Can't put my finger on what I don't like about this album but yuk.

Largely agree with the groups comments. I also liked track 1, but the rest was largely forgettable. Good mellow background music.

stört nicht

Not my typical genre but enjoyed most of the album, especially a few songs. Just not sure how often I’m listening to this.

Just found this a bit boring. On some of the more down tempo songs I felt like I might have slipped into a coma

Noch nie gehört - keine Besonderheiten erkannt

Not my style. Jazzy, poppy, not great. 2/5

it was ok

some songs are awesome, some are kinda lame

Fine. Nothing particularly exciting on here. Not awful either though

Sometimes good sometimes bad

Only one song I recognised, the rest weren't so good.

After a solid first track I really wanted this to be eligible for higher rating, but the following tracks don’t really stand out. It’s a decent listen, and the production is quite good. But alas…

Was completely unfamiliar with this one, which is what’s fun about this whole thing. When the album started, I had pretty high hopes. But I just couldn’t get into it. Nothing wrong with this, but just isn’t for me.

No, nothing for me. Music is ok, but I did not find it interesing at all.

Ehh not a big fan of this one. Some of the songs were boring with very little emotion behind them. Favorite songs were Join the Boys and Tall In The Saddle.

Kind of a nothing-sandwich. This kept me awake, but just barely. Technically sound but I wanted so much more from this.

didnt really catch my attention

Great vocals on a pretty forgettable record.

I feel almost bad for this take but this album is boring. I can't explain why but nothing here jumps out to me because it's just a soup of boring. Comfortable boring, but boring nonetheless. I'd be interested to hear her with a more spare backing; a solo coffee house set type of thing. Best song: Somebody Who Loves You

entre folk y rock retro. aburridito.

Great song writing, great musicianship. Couldn't wait for it to be over. Literally counting the songs that I was subjecting myself to. I would have torn my hair out if I had heard any more. A lot of songs where she sang about giving all her power away to men. That was weird. One song where she sings about calmly accepting date rape. "I got no strength to make him stop" "I guess it's too late, but I'll know next time"

A mix of mostly inoffensive background music, although don't get me started on track 3, Love and Affection. Would I go out of my way to listen to Joan Armatrading again, no, no i wouldn't. 1.5 stars

Some of the background music is piercing

I had never heard of her before this. It was good, but not something I would go back to.

Not my thing.

Could not get into this one. Enjoyed a bit but did not finish if.

Based on the description, I wanted to like this, but it was only ok. I may dig into the catalogue a bit though.

Sounds like an unpaid act at a coffee shop. Made it 4 songs in. Rounding up from 1.7

2.0 I thought it sounded like a female Elton John mixed with a male Joni Mitchell and I couldn't really get past that.

It's like someone singing in the shower with a guitar

Good debut

Smooth listening

Nicht mehr mein Fall

Soulful album. It was alright

4/10 Highlights: Down to Zero

Meh. Ok but not my fave. Not horrendous. Just so average sounding

ekki fyrir mig

Nothing jumped out at me. Maybe if I listened to it in a different setting it would be better.

Nice voice, too poppy. 2/5

One good song, and that’s it

Just couldn't get into this, felt pretty boring throughout.

It's fine

This didn’t hurt to listen to but it’s not my thing. Glad to now know who Joan Armatrading is. Great voice. Wouldn’t turn it off if I was forced to listen to again. But wouldn’t choose to listen to it.

Not my cup of tea, didn't finish, a bit boring.

Fine, didn't really grab me.

This one was really interesting, I had never listened to any of her music before! On the one hand I didn't really get into it, but on the other it really reminded me of some other artists I really love who were around in the 90s (I assume were probably inspired by Aramtrading?) I think with time I could get into this album, but as a first listen it has piqued my interest but it hasn't grabbed me. Fave track: Down to zero

listened 2x as i packed and got ready for trip to Brazil, but not really my thing. 1.9/5

I have never heard of or listened to Joan Armatrading in my life so I have no clue what to expect here. Very Elton John coded but a woman! This is such a drink wine and listen album. Sweet and funky and hazy vibes. Some beautiful sax playing on this album also. Half-way through and it's starting to get a weeee bit boring now eh. An easy listen but nothing really stood out to me, probably would not listen again.

Just not my thing

Smooth but nothing special

Pas ouf

Didn't see the appeal on this 1. Felt like one of those albums that was probably important historically but not exciting in the grander scale.

not my jam, cool sounds though. definitely an era piece

Boring

ngl was a snoozer. kinda stressed over all the college deadlines rn but its mostly fine. last night I went to the rec with nolan trey gus to play ball, was a good time.

Not really my kind of music

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: it was ok Favourite song: didn’t have one

Great voice, but the album is a snoozefest.

Morgan and I agree it sounds like Joni Mitchell meets Tracy Chapman.

Great voice, and some decent tracks, but a lot did just pass by. Quite liked the bluesier songs, much more so than the MOR versions. Pretty inoffensive pop, with blues/jazz influence. 2.5

Fairly pleasant, couldn't say much more about it. Can't remember a single specific song. Joan has a nice voice but it doesn't stand out enough to pull these songs into being interesting. Probably wouldn't know if I listened to this again as it didn't stick in my brain at all.

Didn't recognise the name but knew love and affection when it came on. That guy in that track has a crazy deep voice She has a great voice and I enjoyed the first few tracks, but lost interest as it went on. By no means bad, but not really my thing Highlights: Love and affection Down to zero 2.5

💩💩

This was ok. Strong vocalist, but didn't love the music.

I liked the first song. Her voice is pretty good. Other than those two aspects, there is t much for me here. When saxophone came in like the 4th track, I was done.

Da e greit

Not my type of music

Honestly didn’t make much of an impression

I really didn't like this one very much. It just kinda sounds amateurish, frankly. The mastering often felt very jarring, the tones on the guitar were never very good, a lot of the songs sounded very similar to me, especially with her vocals. Yeah, all in all, I wouldn't listen to this again.

To soft, too much focus on the vocals (which are quality) but not for me.

not for me

I loved the first track on this album, but then the rest of it didn’t vibe for me as much. Just kind of smooth 70s folk rock to me.

Saw the album cover and was half looking forward to some Tracy Chapman, until I noticed the year, then the name of the album. Although this wasn't quite bad enough for a single star rating, it was incredibly dull from start to finish. Middle of the road, boring, the first few tracks were slightly more interesting, but it rapidly became a snooze-fest of safe nothingness. I remember Love and Affection being a hit in the 1970s; hated it then, if anything it's even worse now. I feel 2 stars is being generous.

Didn't hate this one, but also largely forgettable.

She's very talented but just not my jam for a whole album.

It was ok.

T'was okay. Didn't remember a damn thing.

I kind of liked the singers voice, but the weird things she did with it at times made me uncomfortable listening. kind of ruined some of the music

I dunno. Was okay to listen to. Not memorable really. Maybe 2.5?

Beige and not in a good way like frozen foods

Very alright 2/5

A lot like Joni Mitchell. The production is great. A bit boring honestly.

Really not exciting.

Not really my kind of music. Infused Tracy Chapman was influenced by her.

The first woman! I love her voice! The album has a nice vibe but it has nothing really special and it sounds a bit repetitive….

realistically a 2.5/5

It's easy to hear that this one comes from the heart. Joan is obviously passionate about the music she makes and th emessage she wishes to deliver. That being said, it still sounds like generic 70's folk rock that is heavily polished. Not for me.

Joan Armatrading is obviously a great artist, passionate and soulful, but also very generic. It's sadly an average album from the 70s and I can't see why it's supposed to be a monument of this era.

To me, this album was fine. Nothing egregious, but also nothing really memorable about it either. I don't think it belongs on this list as something truly groundbreaking because I think other albums that were made around or before this time had more influence on the folk rock sound.

Couldn’t get into this … maybe not in the right mood at the time.

I wanted to like this one and accept that maybe I didn’t listen enough to give it a real chance.

Ser ok ut på papperet men gör mig bara nervös.
