Such a fun album!!

My first time using this site... Recently ive been moved by house. This sounds like house? Idk buts its looks like.

Ja schon nice eigentlich

8. Sólido disco. Sumo el hitazo

Groovy.

All fun and good

DISCO - Flashback :-)

Very good album. Upbeat and probably killed it when it came out. Still holds up all these years later

Couldn’t stop bopping

I remember liking this a lot, but kinda fell flat for me this time, it’s basically a chic record. Singing isn’t outstanding and pretty dynamically flat. Top tier session players tho.

Zeitlos.

Disco rocks. At least this disco.

never fucked this heavy with disco before. Pleasant surprise

The best songs are disco at it's absolute apex.

This was pretty funky album I liked it

boogie sisters

Some real high points here, especially the bass, and especially that in the funkiest tracks. Some really cool grooves and nice vibes. Some overly disco-ey sounding tracks, but overall very nice and well written and performed songs. Four stars.

Crisp album. Only realised at the end that it was produced and co-written by Nike Rodgers and Bernard Edwards - which makes a lot of sense.

My kinda music

good stuff

Erg lekker, flink wat classics

I’ve never been much of a Disco Stu but, with the exception of track 3, I found this whole thing to be pretty darned groovy - more so than the two Chic albums on here. Which either means it’s a very fine example of the genre, or my tastes are taking a concerning turn in my old age. Probably a bit of both. 3.5 / 4

Any album with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards is pretty much foundational for *so* much other music. You add in the buttery vocals, and I can tolerate even the tracks that aren't utter dance party starters.

Almost dropped a star just because of how much I loathe the title track lol. But the rest is good to great. Algorithm next up: Benny Sings - City Pop (2019)

Great quick listen! I forget the other songs I knew from Sister Sledge and which have been sampled. Mood lifting album ◡̈

This album is very jiggy.

Nice to hear the whole album. The 4 best-known tracks are just absolute classics which I love, so definitely no hardship to listen to this.

7/10 good funky disco

I didn't totally love all these songs but I was BLOWN AWAY by Nile Rogers guitar work. The technique and groove but also the recording (amazing compression sound for example) just really hooked me. This kind of music is not my fave but wow what a legend on guitar! The rest of the 'band' seemed pretty great also.

This is fun. I enjoyed it, although if it were to go on any longer, I could see it becoming pedantic. Lovely harmonies, writing, and energy, but lacked the memorability to make it timeless. 4/5

Lekker funky, maar kende het al goed

A pleasant funk/disco album. Big hits like the title track and "He's The Greatest Dancer." "Thinking of You" is also a great song, and it's pretty short for a disco track! Funky bass lines and quivering strings and dreamy vocal performances.

Classic R&B / disco album. Pretty timeless, holds up well after all these years. Love all the wind instruments and string arrangements throughout this album. Fave tracks: He's the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, We Are Family, Easier to Love

Great collection of soulful R&B songs - lots of classics on here. Just an all-around fun record. Fav Tracks: He's The Greatest Dancer, We Are Family, One More Time

Fun album with the feeling of a really specific moment in history. Favorite track: "We Are Family."

Classic disco, surprisingly good! I never knew who actually did the song “We are Family” before.

Love me some disco

Really great album and I'd say this is more of a 4.5

Good, low-key disco-ish funk. Good stuff.

Wasn't expecting to be into this one but I actually dug it. Will play this again.

Funky bass lines. Great voices. Just groovy.

Funky, good listening, I really like the tone. A tad too long in places. They don’t record stuff like this anymore!

A good disco album that, like David Bowie's Low, picks up on side B. Side B has the strongest crop of tracks that benefits from the iconic, memorable eponymous hit "We Are Family". 7/10

Disco, pop soul. A very warm, happy album full of energy. Admittedly, I do not know a lot of disco. There is not a whole lot I can compare this to, so I have to go on pure enjoyment. That being said, I did really enjoy this album. We Are Family is like a perfect song. Very catchy, memorable, fun, etc. The rest of the album was kind of just a bonus. Each song brought the same feelings coming together to make such a comfortable experience. Vocals were on point, funky instrumentals ruled, nothing really stands out as being overtly bad. With that in mind, I did think some songs went a little long for what they were and sometimes got a bit repetitive, but I guess that comes with the territory. Overall a really nice, fun album with a few songs that will be saved to playlists. Might revisit, mainly just in it for a few songs. 4/5

Najbolje pjesme: 1. We Are Family 2. He's The Greatest Dancer 3. Lost In Music 4. Somebody Loves Me 5. You're A Friend To Me

Sister Sledge were great. This was their defining album, helped by the writing and production of the genius of Nile Rogers. 'We are Family' and 'Lost in Music' are two of my favourite 70's disco songs. A 4 for the happy vibe.

Definitely feels like a classic of its era and genre, probably just won't ever be essential to me personally. Loved it.

Je me suis régalée

disco baby!!!!

The Sledge sisters are excellent here. But Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards really carry the day here.

Drivin beats, soulful ladies, good times. Much more than i was expecting when i turned it on.

God this made me want to move, fun energy and a good time.

Good ole disco! Some really great songs!

So close to a 5 star, but "somebody loves me" and "Easier to love" were weaker than the rest. The rest were absolute disco bops, I was dancing like crazy. Some great guitar riffs, incredible groove, great vocals. Awesome stuff

Just a really fun disco album. The first track "He's the Greatest Dancer" lets you know that this not going to be too serious, but it does become apparent that Sister Sledge believes in the power of music to bring us together. Sometimes you want an album that makes you think, and sometimes you just want an album that makes you groove. This is the latter.

A- He's The Greatest Dancer 3 Lost In Music 4 Somebody Loves Me 4 Thinking Of You 4 We Are Family 5 Easier To Love 3 You're A Friend To Me 5 One More Time 4 They came out of nowhere and grabbed a 4—classic Cinderella story in March.

Good vocals, well backed and great production. Disco was never my thing but I know quality when I hear it.

Somebody Loves Me is too slow for my preferences.

I didn't think I liked disco, but this album was pretty fun. It was nice background music to have on while cleaning the house today.

All classics.

Great album!

Beautifully produced classic vocal disco.

Quite liked this, really funky and fun - made me feel like dancing

Stripped down, sultry disco. Immensely enjoyable listen with the talent of these vocalists. Favorite track: Thinking of You

According to WhoSampled, 7 of the 8 songs have been sampled by other artists, with “he’s the greatest dancer” leading the way—duh, it’s getting jiggy with it. No samples for “you’re a friend to me” and only one for “somebody loves me.” But I get it: these grooves are infectious. Obviously “we are family” is the standout, and it always makes me think of the Pittsburgh pirates. https://youtu.be/hB4eGNYMDKQ?si=m1lkxpT9CLx9qYxl

Happy-feeling 70's era feel good sister music.

Love it!

Brilliant album, fun funky music with a fantastic vocal style. Enjoyed this far more than I expected. Strong 7

The most disco disco. brilliant. Did Nile Rodgers produce it?

Truly an iconic sound. I never knew what group some of these tracks came from. Such soul in this group. I'll be back if I am in the mood for soul. 4/5

The singers voice is really pretty. I am enjoying this a bunch. I don't mind some disco here and there. That's one of the things I like most about music. Is how it can capture the essence of a time you know. SHIT that reminds me of my dream last night. I was in this OLD VW bug and bus, and was telling Joe how cool it is to be in an old car like that and only play music from its time lol. There was a lot more to the dream but that's the part that was relevant for this. The remixes at the end were great too. 4 stars.

This has got a nice soul sound and some complete classic tracks. 4 stars

Groovy. A mainstay disco album.

Catchy disco music. Stand-out: He's The Greatest Dancer

A fresh breath of slick and extremely funky music after a couple of albums I hope I never have to listen to ever again. This record is fun to listen to, with some really cool guitar parts.

GREAT album by the Chic Organization that's been sampled, DJ'ed, used & abused, and STILL lights you up from the inside out. From the well (over-)worn grooves of "We Are Family" to the underrated "Thinking of You", this album goes the distance. This album was released in January of 1979-- 7 months before the infamous "Disco Demolition Night" in Chicago that roughly marked the end of disco. I can only imagine what it was like to be alive in that period of time in between.

They really are family! Love the pure disco groove. Sister slay!

Cannot deny Nile Rogers at work on this one

Nile Rodgers production

Disco bop

Bop central

Listened Before? N Absolute disco fire! This thing is funky and hot. Sounds like the seventies, baby! Really enjoyed all the non-slow songs here. The ballads drag a little, but not too badly. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: He's The Greatest Dancer

Funky, sorprendentemwnte bueno

pretty cool.

I was a “disco sucks” guy when this album first came out but have grown to appreciate disco over the years. The production and playing by Rogers and Edwards alone is fantastic, but add the classic r&b vocal stylings of the sisters Sledge and this album is all the good things that disco can be. The infectious melodies of classics like We are Family, He’s the Greatest Dancer and Lost in Music are fun and while maybe a bit dated, can still get people moving and grooving.

De langzame nummers (Somebody Loves Me en You're A Friend To Me) hadden ze van mij achterwege mogen laten.

This album is ahead of its time. Probably one of the best funk records I’ve ever heard (and I haven’t even listened to it). Despite some of the songs just feeling weird, “We Are Family” showcases the Sledge Sisters’ best efforts as a team, and “One More Time” as a closer is perfect. The album sums up disco and funk in the seventies while also giving a familial edge to it. Despite that, “Somebody Loves Me” should’ve either been shorter or faster. My attention span already dwindled after that! Regardless, this album is a gem and deserves to get an 86.25/100, or a 4.3125/5. Fav: “One More Time” Least Fav: “Somebody Loves Me”

FAVO: Greatest dancer, Lost in Music, Thinking of you, We are family, Easier to love

Favorite Tracks: We Are Family He’s the Greatest Dancer Lost In Music

Solid disco

A very good album, nice variety along with the well known hits. “He’s The Greatest Dancer” is my favorite of theirs.

Beautiful album of disco smoothness. Silky soulful vocals and harmonies. Absolutely timeless with classics that you hear at every party that will never age.

February 1st, 2024 HL: title track, "He's the Greatest Dancer", "Lost in Music", "Thinking of You" Annoyed that the 1995 remastered album doesn't have the album version of their title track. (which is twice as long) Isn't that what albums are for...? But good vibes all around. Since I didn't say it in my notes for the last Chic album (a year ago :o), BERNARD EDWARDS WAS THE GOAT. The rest of the album is pretty good too imo

We are friends.

Beautiful voices

Yikes, it’s another one I want to give a 3.5 to. What’s not to like about a bit of disco. Upbeat, fun, makes you feel like dancing. And Rodger’s and Edwards were a class act. For that it is getting rounded up to a 4

Very groovy and smooth album from the late disco are. Though it was a bit repetitive, the production of the album is such great quality that it was a great experience to listen to. I can't give it any lower than a 4.

This is good Great vibes throughout very funky Great Guitar work from Nile Rodgers, great vocals, fantastic production. All around good album Between a very high 3 and a 4

Side A has a banger, a banger, a snoozer, and a BANGER. Side B starts hot with the title track and then is just okay after that. Overall, well-made disco and R&B, and "Thinking of You" is one of my favorite tracks I've discovered since the start of this challenge.

always love

Fun good vibes

Beautiful arrangements and vocals, head-bobbing bass and drums, and ethereal strings. I was blown away when I heard the titular track on headphones and really heard the song for the first time. Everybody knows “We Are Family”, it’s been all over popular media for decades but that’s done the song a disservice by making it background music to advertisements nobody cares about. I was really impressed with this album.

A cool funky album throughout. Not typically my genre. I was going to give it 3 stars, but I caught myself singing "We are Family" all day.

Fun time, nothing crazy

What a bright note for a dreary, rainy day 🕺

R&B pop funk soul He's the graetest dancer es 🔥

Nice vocals and funk guitar and bass.

Nice bass, groovy drums and clean funky guitar.

Great from start to finish.

Solid album, very fun... disco vibes all day

Easy listen, pretty melodies, beautiful vocals.

Loved it, there song, We are family! I got all my sisters and me! Cool 4 stars!

Bop after bop

Two songs I knew before, didn't know the artist though. It is a good album alltogether and I enjoyed listening to it. Some of the songs might as well be part of a Tarantino Soundtrack :)

Had me dancing from the start. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of the last couple remixed songs. -8/10

I enjoyed the tunes. The slow songs without the beat behind them were kind of boring, but overall very enjoyable.

I liked it! Seems like Jojah’s vibe. Pretty entertaining, although I felt like the songs all kinda sounded like one another. 7.5/10

I enjoyed most of the songs. My mom and aunts have sung the we are family song to much for me to not get annoyed by it though 7/10

Thought this was gonna be one of those albums that’s only on here for that one huge song, but I was pleasantly surprised- this was great. I love some good disco. 8.5/10

Groovy, spirited & fun!

Good time all around.

Lovely, funky and so much more than the we are family hit

Queens of the Funk and RnB.Absolute classic of the dancefloor in 80s. Recommend

Deutlich mehr als "We Are Family". Sehr schönes Album

Good Album. Classics He's the greatest dancer, We are family....

Being familiar with the title track, I knew roughly what I was in for. It was quite a pleasant surprise that I actually recognised quite a few tracks on the album. The songwriting is fairly strong, which is to be expected with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards producing the album. It's basically like cheating! The hits on this album are definitely the standout, and rightfully so because they're just incredibly fun tracks. I'm tempted to say that I prefer Lost in Music over We Are Family.

Thinking of You

Liked it more than I thought I would, might make a disco dancer out of me yet!

Ein Disco-Klassiker. Gehört in jede Sammlung.

A disco classic with expressive vocals and back vocals, with Chic as the backing band. Everyone from Chic plays incredible here, and you can hear everyone clearly. These melodies hit hard and are instantly recognizable. Half the songs are fantastic pop hits you could still hear on classic radio today. I don't have to talk about the 4 hits which are just perfect. "Somebody Loves Me" is an ok soul track typical of the era, but doesn't stand out in any way. "Easier to Love" is pretty great, chiller than the other tracks, but I'm a fan of the vocals and instrumentals here. "You're a Friend to Me" reminds me of Chic's "A Warm Summer Night" but not as cool. Bassline stands out the most here, but the strings are cool too, although mild. It's ok. "One More Time" is ok but pretty forgettable. The lame songs are carried by the great vocal work, instrumentals, and production. If they worked a bit harder on the weaker songs, it could have been a masterpiece.

01) He's The Greatest Dancer - 9,5 02) Lost In Music - 9,5 03) Somebody Loves Me - 7,5 04) Thinking of You - 8,5 05) We Are Family - 9,5 06) Easier to Love - 8,0 07) You're a Friend to Me - 8,0 08) One More Time - 8,5 TOTAL: 8,63 (86/100) Why do you guys hate disco so much? I mean, this is definitely more pleasant listening than half of the other albums on this list (not to mention names). Half? Make that 75%

Very much not for me, but I can appreciate the artistry, and cultural and historical importance.

I should have known Nile Rodgers produced this album.

More to Sister Sledge than the wedding reception fave “We Are Family”

Listened to most of it! Really good. Gotta get back & finish

A classic album!

Sturdy bass beats, fluid grooves, sweet strings adding sweep and depth – who knew disco could remain so sweet and pleasurable? And so well-made, too. Just had to be Nile Rodgers, right? And if it's good enough for Pops Stargell, it should be good enough for everyone.

A classic. Undeniably smooth.

Thinking of you alone is worth this return to disco. Love the whole album but this song was my favorite.

classic

Party,party.

This album took me by surprise. Its soft, but yet funky, sound palette plus great hook delivery made my foot dance all album long. With infectious rhythms and soulful harmonies, 'We Are Family' encapsulates the vibrant spirit of disco-era joy. The album's seamless blend of feel-good tunes and empowering anthems creates an uplifting experience transcending time. Sister Sledge's dynamic vocal performances and the album's timeless production make it a classic worth revisiting, spreading joy with every beat. It was one of those albums you approached without a lot of context, but you ended up knowing one or two songs. Fondly recommended!

Great stuff, can’t go wrong with having Chic as your backing band. Almost every track hits to some degree. Very strong 4, borderline 5. Top tracks: He’s The Greatest Dancer, Lost In Music, Thinking Of You, We Are Family, Easier To Love, One More Time

You can talk me into a 5. Slows down a little too much at points, but they’re going off here!

Very enjoyable album with many recognizable instrumentals.

This was fantastic. This whole record sounds like something Daft Punk sampled at one point 4

Fun, classic album! The softer, more mellow songs surprised me too. Lyrically it’s quite cliche and not too special, but musically it got quite good! Love Nile Rodgers’s contribution! 8 out of 10

Really is a fantastic slab of Disco gold

I’m ready for my starring role in the next season of Sex in the City. This was fun, catchy, and well executed. I don’t see myself coming back to it, but it’s not to be ignored.

- "We are Family" oder "He's the greatest Dancer" - wir alle kennen es, wir alle lieben es - Hätte ich mir je von selbst ein Sister Sledge Album von vorne bis hinten angehört? Nein.

Really fun to dance to

Feel good. Funky!

disco-heavy, first track has recognizable sample from Will Smith. It's alright for what it is. I thought the vocals cut through the mix surprisingly well.

We are family I got all my sisters with me We are family Get up everybody and sing We are family I got all my sisters with me We are family Get up everybody and sing

Disco's not dead! This album is pretty great and not just because of its title track. Would definitely listen to the album again.

Fun disco sound. Some classics on here.

Here in 2023, it’s become very hard not to hear “We Are Family” as a novelty track: it’s been mined for comic effect countless times, and played at every single naff disco for forty-odd years. But scratching off the surface reveals a really special song which perfectly captures the magic of Sister Sledge’s debut album. Lovely lashings of strings, an admirably hectic bassline, emphatic backing vocals, and a tremendous lead presence delivering a killer hook. It’s all waiting to be adored: just surrender and dance. Masters of funk and trailblazers in disco, Chic’s Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards have worked on dozens of iconic songs and albums since the mid-1970s. Rodgers has called “We Are Family” the best album he’s ever been involved with, and after a few listens I’m finding it difficult to disagree. The Chic touches to the arrangements and production are inescapable here, and have never sounded quite so irresistible. Listen to that bubbling fretless bassline in “Thinking of You”! The constantly clucking guitar line in “He’s the Greatest Dancer”! The soft strings wrapping up “Lost In Music” in a luscious, hazy package! It all works beautifully. But all mastery of production aside, the real appeal of “We Are Family” is the palpable force of love: a connection that only a family could have, which shines through in Sister Sledge’s vocals. The youngest Sledge, Kathy, was nineteen at the time of the album’s release and handles the lead vocals in half the tracks. She’s excellent in all of it, but her turn in “Thinking Of You” is particularly superb as she cartwheels her way through a soulful outro. The backing vocals, omnipresent in almost every song, are so simple yet so effective. All in all, “We Are Family” is a sublime piece of disco. If there’s anything holding it back for me at the moment, it’s the softer ballads: “Somebody Loves Me”, “Easier to Love”, “You’re a Friend to Me”. These are subtler songs: soulful and dreamlike, they float by in a haze, begging repeated listens to be enjoyed to the full. I’m excited to put the hours in.

It seems they got a lot of influence by Michael Jackson, y mixed with some Disco misic.

Schöne Klassiker mit freudvoller Musik, was man gut nebenher laufen lassen kann.

Good good good

Pretty nice to study to.

This album is responsible for 90% of the good music after it. Man Chic and Niles really put their whole hook-ussy into this one.

Bänger. Tosi easy-going musaa, nimikkobiisi selkeesti paras mut myös muut iha hyvää taustamusaa mihin tahansa bilebaariin.

In the first 5 seconds, I was already bopping. That’s gotta be a record. There isn’t a lot of depth to these songs and that’s okay! It does exactly what it sets out to do: it makes you want to boogie!

Still an great easy listening album

For å sitere kongen av England; Dig that funky rythm

It's nice for a candlelit dinner for two or an intimate party with friends

Learned this was a Chic album! Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, and Tony Thompson play funk with a Pop sensibility throughout and it's kind of above criticism. Trying to approach these albums as one would when rating a wine or beer (possibly): is it a good example of the genre? Is it well crafted? This album is certainly a well crafted piece of music, Disco or not. As much as "We are Family" is a standout, nothing here falls flat. There are some cheesy musical tropes (breathy whispering "why?" in the call-and response, the nearly overwhelming string section), but it's all much more innocent abstractions that service the songs. This album sounds great and is an example of Chic's musical genius - songwriting, producing, and playing gives them artistic control and they thrive in the dance pop environment, obviously.

classic

Stupidly good guitar and bass lines. Groovy & a hallmark of disco sound

They were super funky fresh and Philly locals

dat soul

cool had this on cd when i was young

Really focusing on the musicians. It's growing on me, but disco is not my thing. After listening to it again, I appreciate the bass player's funk. 4/5

The four singles are clearly the highlights but honestly - an album with four such fantastic and genre-defining songs on it deserves a place on this list regardless of the rest of the material. Fortunately the remaining tracks are still pretty solid and results in a total package that’s a whole lot of fun

Favs: - ▫️He's the Greatest Dancer ▫️ Thinking of You ▫️ We Are Family

Some classic disco. "We are family". Some remixes at the end of the album that have aged poorly. Actually the other songs that "We are family" are pretty good.

He's the Greatest Dancer -- ноги пустились в пляс, хочется сразу подвигаться, отличный ритм. You're a Friend to Me -- мне понравилось!

Funky disco. Never heard any of these songs before, but they're a great listen.

Listening notes? Good music, feels very late 70s East Coast/New York disco funk. Not totally my thing but solid.

Not my cup of tea

Not normally my style, but a solid album. Would listen to again.

Great writing, super talented, lovely voices, perfect harmonies.

I actually bought that LP back in the day and saw them in concert in 1975. The album was their breakout and the tracks had Nile Rogers DNA all over, they were similar to Chic, but the vocals were better.

Silkimjúkur söngur og hljóðfæraleikur. Tveir ofursmellir sem maður hefur heyrt ansi oft á dansgólfinu, tvær hægari ballöður sem grípa mig ekki eftir tvær hlustanir, og fjögur hressari lög sem lyfta plötunni á móti. Tæpur fjarki.

Awesome energy, a couple 10/10s. 8/10 great album

Some great playing from Chic members, a little heavy on the disco but will come back to it.

Banger after banger

Dobre i przyjemne, nazbyt genetyczne. Znakomite otwarcie 1001 albumów

really incredible album, half of it was released as singles and theyre definitely the best tracks but the others are great too

swingy vibes

Solid singles track. Stone cold disco bangers.

Pretty good, they have nice voices. The albums is short the songs are catchy, the greatest dancer and we are family are bangers.Solid album.

Couldnt find the full album, listened to a compilation. Awesome and uplifting. 4

Can't go wrong with Sister Sledge. Funkalicious soul.

A mainstream pop album with an opening track where vocals don’t come in until almost one minute?! IMPOSSIBLE! They’ll never get payed through Spotify that way. Wake up Sister! Holy shit this is funky. Soaring (and pretty sparing) vocal melodies over TIGHT rhythm sections is all I need. I really appreciate that the songs here can take their time instead of following tired formulas. Added this to the driving playlist rotation. Big Willy style’s all in it.

Sister Sledge gallops gallantly atop golden grooves from Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards in this silky smooth late-70s showcase.

Somebody Loves Me is corny. The bass in Thinking of You is impressive. He’s the Greatest Dancer is still amazing, even if I can’t help but hear Getting Jiggy Wit It in my head when it plays. Only got through side 1.

I was transported to Funky Town, population: me

After hearing this and Chic, I realize I really like Nile Rodgers as a guitarist and a producer. I was immediately caught by how familiar this felt, particularly 'Lost in Music'. I simply thought Daft Punk was heavily influenced by this album, but then discovered Rodgers was a guest musician for a few songs on Random Access Memories. Anyway, I thought that was a neat connection. For this album, We Are Family, I thought this was really fun, focused, and had some surprising moments and makes me want to revisit Chic. Also, this is very influential on Future Funk, the less nihilistic cousin of Vaporwave.

Fun album, enjoyable the whole way through

cirkus afro

fun funk

I thought this was great. All killer. Playing and arrangements all on point. Great palate cleanser after Duck Rock

the bass is so tasty.

dope record (4/5)

Really liked it

A little weak outside of its two big singles but I’m a sucker for disco. I’d certainly roller skate to this album. 8/10

Not my style but a great listen. No bad songs.

Album 138 of 1001 Sister Sledge - We Are Family Rating : 4 / 5 Favorite Track : We Are Family 1979....or the Summer of 1979, to be specific...was a fun time. Certainly one of my favorite Summers. The title track from this album was everywhere. The Pittsburgh Pirates had adopted it as their team theme and they were kicking ass in the National League. While Disco isn't my favorite genre, I can't deny the place it played in the musical life of someone whose playlist was whatever Top 40 was feeding him at the time. This album is certainly representative of that moment in time. Not only do you get Sister Sledge, you basically get another Chic album. It doesn't necessarily make me ponder over it's significance in the world of music, but it does evoke memories of a fun time in my life that has now faded from the rearview mirror. We can't help when we are born, so I'll embrace it.

So many disco classics on one record. Just about every track holds up to this day. What a party. Four and a half. Fave track: Lost in Music

I enjoyed it.

Cool jazz and funky music, like it

I'm not really sure when R&B transitioned from this to the lo-fi style that's so pervasive in it today, but I have to bone to pick with whomever is responsible. These funky disco elements are infinitely more interesting to listen to. Now that that's out of the way, the vocals are just beautifully handled. The instrumentals are a perfect accompaniment, and they are treated as more than just simple background. I'll always have time for albums like this. Favorite track: We are Family

I love me the old R&B funk sound of the 70's and 80's and this album is no exception. Vocals are exceptional and make you feel each song. Just made me groove in my chair while listening. I even liked the extended, disco versions at the end of the album. Very aware of We Are Family, but was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the songs on this album. I know a couple got kind of slow, but damn, all around very good album. Younger crowd probably thought they were hearing Getting Jiggy With It when He's the Greatest Dancer came on, but just a reminder that most of your 2000's R&B shit was stolen from the artist of the 60's through 80's. At least the shit they play on the radio these days. Speaking of Getting Jiggy With It, I think every hit song Will Smith had was stolen, ok "sampled" from the late 70'S R&B. What a cuck pussy. Enough about that clown..... Favorite song off the album is definitely Thinking of You. Other favorites include Lost in Music and Somebody Loves Me. He's the Greatest Dancer is solid as well. I'm just disappointed it's now associated with that cuck dude mentioned earlier. Quick side note, when I hear We Are Family, I think of the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates. They adopted this as their team song and went on to beat Baltimore in the World Series. They had a pitcher named Dock Ellis. He threw a no-hitter while on LSD. No shit. The same Dock Ellis that gave up the longest All Star game home run, estimated 539 feet, to Reggie Jackson. It was 1971, old Detroit Tiger Stadium on the corners of Michigan and Trumbull. It was a beautiful baseball stadium. There's your sports trivia for the day. Very good album that I enjoyed very much. I've been grooving out to this genre last couple days. I can see me putting this album on during one of my redneck pool days with the wife. 4

Relaxing therapy session.

Honestly kinda boppin

This music has such a warm feel to it. Good to dance to as well.

Great pleasure

I didn’t know this album was on the list. Huh. Anyway, it’s good disco music. Title track is a classic. Not much to say, but it was good.

Pretty good!

This is perfect disco really, even if it probably was one of the last gasps of the dying genre. The 4 singles are fantastic; smooth, funky and groovy. Just makes you want to dance. Thinking of You is my favourite of them, it's a real earworm! The other album tracks don't live up to the rest, but they're pleasant enough to listen to.

All the sisters yo!

Nile Rodgers really shines through, can especially hear it in "thinking of you".

Great disco album.

Some of these suffer from overplaying but this is pretty much wall to wall great

Get your glitter ball out and dance around your handbag in this late 70s disco legend. It's the Nile Rodgers, (Chic), touch that brought a stepped change to the Sister Sledge sound, and it's just one of those albums that has a few gems to kick off any party to get people up and shake their booty and throwing shapes on the dance floor like the legends they wanted to be. For the few legend tracks on the album, there are also a few donkeys, which shouldn't have been recorded, let alone played again. It's a bit of disco diva fun, nothing to get over critical about, just kick back and enjoy.

Very good album, well produced and excellent quality.

Disco bangers

Wow, didn't know this is where Will Smith sampled "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It"

Great album, lots of good songs.

This album sent me down a Nile Rodgers rabbit hole, I loved it!

Solid disco. A couple less good songs, but He's the Greatest Dancer and the title track make up for it honestly.

Dang. This was great. It's not my typical musical genre, but they had great harmonies, reasonable variation in the sound and not a single song I just really didn't like.

This album is really, really good.

Holy shit a different genre than some subgenre of rock. How refreshing. This has some big mo-town vibes but also has a really good backing track. I could definitely see the first track being sampled to make a really good city pop-type song or just a funky hip-hop song. I kind of really hate the title track song "We are family" mostly because it gets overplayed (especially at weddings) I've never heard anything else from this group, so this is actually refreshing. I really like the way they use short guitar plucks? It has a really distinct and pleasing sound which pairs well with the short violin/string hits they use in a lot of songs. The slower ballad-type songs are not really very good and honestly don't do a good service to the album, but luckily there isn't a whole lot of them. Honestly "We are Family" wouldn't be so annoying to me if I hadn't heard it so many times, especially in so many cringe-worthy situations. Overall discounting the remix songs this is a short little album and honestly, it's pretty good. My main gripe is that the slower song are not nearly as good as the other tracks and that the album looses steam towards the end A solid to light 4/5 though.

Hella funky.

Fantastic soul album. Great tracks, lots of classic 70’s R&B gems in We Are Family, He’s the Greatest Dancer, and Love in Music. Great stuff.

It's consistently good👌

A nightly soundtrack during the early nights of my career when I was involved in nightclubs. A great album.

Unexpected absolute banger from soup to nuts

disco funk ikke phunk 3,8

Funky stuff. 'Nuff said.

Great album, incredible disco music.

Type of music that would be sampled into modern music. Isnt as upbeat but works for background noise to groove to.

Brilliant album all familiar hits with that chic sound

Bangeramaskínan Nile+Bernie setja risastórt mark sitt á þessa plötu. Stanslaust stuð!

Damn, richtig gutes Album, würde 4.5 geben!

Funky!

Classic grooves. The kind of stuff that gets imitated and sampled endlessly.

It's good. Somehow every song on this album has the best bass performance ever.

Very good album with some great songs

Chic mk. 2. And nothing wrong with that.

Fantastic listen.

An album stuffed full of disco classics. Great for a Saturday night on the dance floor. As a full album most songs sound similar. It would be very difficult to tell them apart.

He's The Greatest Dancer absolutely slaps

Awesome vintage disco dance pop with some amazing melancholic melodies in-between and great music all around (89%)

very good 8.5/10

Ah yeah! After failing to break through with their first two albums, Sister Sledge enlists Chic’s Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edward’s for their third album We Are Family. With their help Sister Sledge ended up creating one of the Disco’s great albums and Singles. I enjoyed the lush orchestrations on here. The strings added a nice coloring to the groove set down by the guitar and bass. The sister’s voices work well together. It’s hard to believe that Kathy recorded the vocal lead for “We are Family” in one long take.

This was a nice palate cleanser after some AWFUL electronica albums. While definitely OF ITS TIME (holy disco, Batman!), it sounds great. Great singing, GREAT bass and guitar (Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers, respectively, who also wrote all the songs - this is basically a Chic album with the Sisters Sledge singing). Probably my only complaint is that the guitar part is pretty repetitive - the same scratching style on every song - I know that's his thing and he's great at it, but after a while it started to sound pretty repetitive. I'd definitely listen again, but not sure I'd go out of my way to seek it out, which would make it a 3 not a 4. But, since I kept listening a lot, I guess it deserves a 4. Favorite tracks - He's the Greatest Dancer (This is what GOOD disco sounds like!), Lost in Music (got stuck in my head), Thinking of You (great guitar groove), We Are Family (truly classic and worth being played a billion times. What a great bass line).

Can't explain why I enjoyed this but I did, disco af

Favorites: -He's the Greatest Dancer -Lost in Music -Somebody Loves Me -We Are Family

Great funk album, singing was on point and production was great especially for an album that came out last 80s. It got slow at times but for the most part it was very consistent. 8.4/10

Loved it except for the slow dancing song. That really killed the groove.

Not really a disco chap, as a rule, but this was awesome! I've heard "We Are Family" far too many times to really welcome hearing it again, but even so, I gotta give it props for being anthemic. Fave track - "Lost in Music" - hypnotic, and I love the scansion of the "I quit" line... 💅

Behind the wholesomeness of We Are Family is sultriness and a whole lot of funk. It's your signature Nile Rodgers, amplified by a passionate but also groovy set of sisters. Love it! Standout tracks are He's the Greatest Dancer and Easier to Love.

good funky rithms

Smooth disco grooves and sweet harmonies. The deep cuts might just be the best songs.

This album does not miss. I was hooked from the moment that guitar kicked in. Nile Rogers’ is all over this record. Though this album is clearly a dance record, the musicality and production are top notch. It walks a fine line between commercially viable and artistic integrity and succeeds in both counts.

Great album from the disco era. Produced by Nile Rodgers.

Singles carry

An all time great disco album. Hook those baselines into my veins. Four of the eight tracks are icons of the genre (He's the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, Thinking of You, and We Are Family) and the rest is more than decent. Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and the Sledge sisters are on top form here and have created something timeless and brilliant. Disco does not suck. Rating: 4.5/5 Playlist track: Lost in Music Date listened: 27/01/23

Albums like this are what I love about this. You know the hit, never heard any other songs, and they rock

4/5 It was a really fun album with no terrible sounds or out of tune instruments. It was groovy. I liked it.

I'm ignoring the remixes at the end of this version and therefore give this a 4 out of 5. Upbeat, funky, and not too heavy which is a great change from what's been churned out lately. Great music and singing - will revisit this one.

Absolute banger. The last couple songs are a slight miss, but the rest had me moving along the whole time. Despite being the favorite and the title track, We Are Family is not the best song on the album.

un imbécil acá puso disco sucks te voy a buscar a tu casa hdp

This bops

Makes me wanna quit my 9 to 5 and get LOST IN MUSIC. Hella romantic and sweet and got my toe tappin and my shoulders loose.

Disco gives me life. I already had several song from this album saved, now I got to fill in the blanks. 4.5/5

Pretty good disco album! Loved the song “thinking of you”.
