Reviews (page 2 of 7)

I was pretty stoked when this popped up, didn't expect them on here! Only knew the songs from their previous albums when they would show videos on MTV and also knew some of Skin's solo songs - this was a great opportunity to hear a full album. Pretty good, and I'd rate it 4 or 4.5, but I'm giving it a 5 because some of the other reviews are insufferable and also we need a more varied artist list on here instead of the same Neil Young drivel.

I love clit rock

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!

I am a little bias as I love Skunk Anansie, but this is a cracking album. Skin's voice is amazing for both the tender and the raging and this album is full of emotion.

This is one case where the clear leaning to the UK is completely justified. That this band didn't hit big in the US is a god damn crime. Every album in the discography is a banger. Skin is electric! Front to back amazing. I love this album and this band. Candidate for best album on the list and I am confident saying it only 400 albums in.

This is one of those albums that makes me glad I'm doing this project. Because I've never heard of this band. And even the first sound didn't hook me, but just minutes into the album and I get it. Their sound is amazing, mostly clean vocals with a bit of rage on high quality metal tracks. No idea how I hadn't found them sooner.

Very impressed! Never heard of this band, and the mix of heavier and softer songs on this album makes for a wide, enjoyable range of music! Will listen to them some more

Amazing discovery! I'd never heard of Skunk Anansie before but I love their sound! The album tapers off in the part that wasn't in the original tracklist but I won't judge it by that. Very solid album.

Dirty, cinematic, this is definitely one of my favorite albums I've been suggested thus far. General production of this is a highlight but the vocals being so powerful and often times haunting had me coming back to this album repeatedly.

Impressive album!

Alt title for this album is Post Nut Clarity. This album is kinda like 2 different 6 song albums stitched together where you have harder and softer songs mixed that fit well together.

I’m at a 4.5 that I think I’ll bump up to a 5 on the “I just enjoyed it, what can I say?” criteria. It really is that simple; sometimes, I just happen to really like an album. Oh, there’s flaws here, don’t get me wrong, but as a 50 minute package, I’m just surprisingly pleased by how much I enjoyed it. Much like seemingly the entire rest of the site, I have never heard of “Skunk Anansie” until this moment, but I’m glad this album’s in the list to at least give them a showcase. This album jumps around from style to style; in the broadest definition, I would say it’s what would happen if Alanis Morissette had gotten to lead an Evanescence album, but that undermines some of the vocal & instrumental variety here. There are some genuinely softer ballads here that feel a bit more adjacent to Janis Joplin’s ability to shift the power of her vocals on a dime, though with an R&B touch that’s slightly understated, but very present. Instrumentally, there’s some tracks that feel like Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Garbage (yes, the band), and occasionally, Radiohead, as weird as that sounds. The variety that’s present here keeps the album fresh, and while it’s mostly lead by the power of her vocals guiding the emotional lean of each track as opposed to a real instrumental showcase (only a handful of really strong solos), I think the band is more than serviceable to capture the mood. So, what exactly are the “flaws” that have me hesitating to give it a flat 5? For one, a few tracks have disconnected outros that don’t really seem to add anything to the album, since there’s not really an overarching narrative here. Secondly, I just think the band’s “serviceability” starts to really show for the final 2 tracks – they’re technically sound, but it’s clear that her vocals & the lyricism are guiding the tracks a bit more than they are. It makes the album end on a slightly flatter note, since the passion just doesn’t feel reciprocated (ironically, probably the overarching theme of the album) and while that’s not the worst thing, signs of it start to pop in by “Good Things Don’t Always Come To You”, so the last 4 tracks do slowly let off the gas on their way to the finish line, though I did enjoy all of the tracks here. In all, even with a slight “genericism” lingering over the whole album (which I think the top review is trying to get at, albeit in a mildly pretentious way framed as trying to achieve perfection), I think this is the sort of female-led rock album that just appeals to a lot of my musical sensibilities. The floor here is a 3; if the “genericism” feels more overwhelming to the ears, then I wouldn’t blame someone for going there. If you can fully buy into what they’re selling (which I think is rather easy), then it’s probably somewhere between a 4 and a 5, and I just think I enjoyed it too much to want to bump it down, even with the flaws this thing has. It’s far from perfect, but I found it surprisingly enjoyable, and I think it earns a 5.

Surprenant!

I'm not even sure if I've ever heard of these guys but wow what a glorious surprise. Seems like something I need to get a little more familiar with.

Great punk album. I have never heard of this before, but I am really enjoying it.

Oh my God. I am so into this. You have no idea. I will definitely check out more Skunk Anansie.

This just works for me.

I had a absolute joy listing to this and I'm so glad to discover them as it's right up my alley.

I really expected this to be another ki d of lame 90s electronica album given the band and album names. But surprsingly, this was an absolutely incredible hard rock album. The singer is highlight throughout as the album dabbles in metal and some slightly lighter sounds, and I think the song that really pulled me into the fact that this was something special was Tracy's Fear, but make no doubt, this whole album is great. Not sure if they will have more representation on this list, but I will definitely check out more by Skunk Anansie at some point.

I thought this was super cool. Love her voice with these almost metal vibe.

I know Skunk Anansie from well before, but honestly, I couldn't recall any of their songs. After a quick session with Post Orgasmic Chill I can see what might be the reason - it seems like every song on this album is at least great. More than 25 years later this record sounds as fresh as in 1999. Amazing vocal work, with pretty hard rock instruments in the background, just underlining how great Skin is. One of the better contemporary albums on this list, straight to the record shop I go.

I did not know what to expect here. I am over the moon happy this album exists and is on the list. This is what the list is about. I likely would not have heard about this band through other discovery systems. Amazing album, soup to nuts. I'll be diving deep into their catalog, face first and full depth. The right amount of anger and soul. Calling them "clit-rock" feels a bit reductionist, though. They're a rock band. Full stop. My rating: 5/5

Immediate 5! "Charlie Big Potato" is enough for the 5. I almost wore my CD out of their "Paranoid & Sunburnt" album when it was released and I remember the excitement I got when they released this one. Back to back bangers! I've always loved Skin's voice, the vocals throughout are just fire.

Wow, to say I appreciated this a lot more on second listen is an understatement

This is an unexpected surprise, I was going in thinking that I would hate this album because of all the individual elements - but it's incredibly well done. It's the closest thing to metal that I'll truly enjoy, I believe.

Two words: Kick Ass! This band is damn good, I'm surprised I never heard them before, and couldn't even find much written about them or this album. The singer is fantastic, there's so much raw emotion in her vocals. The band is playing their asses off. On every track they're all working in perfect hard-rock harmony. Most songs on this album would fit on a soundtrack to Tony Hawk's Underground, and I mean that in the best way.

Skunk Anansie is such an underrated band. Skin's voice is so powerful and versatile and the band is so locked in together. They are one of the several bands that I discovered shortly before or after breakup, and I can't help but wonder if they would have become more popular in the US if they had stuck it out a little longer. Thankfully they're back together, and Post Orgasmic Chill has rightfully taken the title off modern classic.

5/5 Never heard about this band before. Definitivelly a diamond in the rough on the 1001 list.

Somewhere in the depths of my mind the name 'Skunk Anansie' sounds vaguely familiar, I'm sure of it. The guitar riffs are heavy, the bass is prominent and punchy, but the MVP of this album has got to be Skin. Her vocals are absolutely killer throughout the album. She can do it all and she can do it all very well. She grabs your attention immediately. 'Tracy's Flaw' is a perfect example. They slow things down and it gives Skin the perfect opportunity to sing with a bit more sincerity and sounds more heartfelt. But this track also shows off her powerful belts and raspy, growly shouts as well as her falsetto. A fantastic voice that matches the music perfectly. This was aggressive from the first track and also had its slower moments. Heavy yet melodic. Riff heavy. Such a good album and such a pleasant surprise. The vocals force an extra star out of me, they're that good.

11/03/2025 I'm surprised how much i liked this.

It’s so weird and dynamic and angsty and cathartic and I cannot believe I’ve never heard of this band.

This is an exceptional album. Listened to other albums based on it

Another new artist from the project that I really enjoyed. They really reminded me of Evinescense, and reading global reviews that seems to be correct. Will definitely be diving into their catalog now

So much better than the Beatles. Skin fucking rules.

Goes hard

Kick ass vocals. I enjoyed this quite a bit for a band I'd never heard of. This type of music was popular at this time, I'm surprised they weren't bigger.

Excellent. Finally a revelation!

Heavy and intense. I really liked listening to this.

Great!

wow! really really liked this one. something different and super funky. a joy to listen to!

i had never heard of skunk anansie before but this album rips!!! finally an actually good album from britain from the 90s on this list... favorites: tracks 1, 3-7, 9, and 10

i had never heard of Skunk Anansie but this was a super pleasant surprise: funky, hard edged or beautiful as needed, and just plain cool sonically, with an amazing voice from Skin. will absolutely be checking out more of their discography

Every time I hear Skunk Anansie on the radio, which is probably more days than not, I think to myself that I need to listen to them more. Well today marks the first time I’ve listened to an album in full. Skin may well have one of the best voices in rock music. She hits the softer and distorted shouty parts as if it was easy. The rest of the music is fantastic. The guitars are what I like to describe as filthy - plenty of distortion and generally simple riffs, but that’s all you need sometimes.

Never heard of this group or album so I was really unsure what to expect. Plus metal is not my thing and the title is a little different, but it was much better than expected. I am sure true metal heads hate it but I really enjoyed it. I understand why its on this list, it has screaming and metal sounds but its enjoyable, and there it evokes more than just "I am screaming because I am mad." One top of the emotional depth it focuses on female and black struggles, something metal never does. I started a list of the songs I liked but I really liked all of them. Only criticism is that it started hard and almost the entire second half was a lot slower, maybe more of a mix on the back half. I feel like they would be an awesome live show and I band I am going to investigate more.

Wow, what a great freaking album. Really dig the lead singer’s voice and the emotion and passion she injects into these songs. It felt very deep and genuine. I had no prior knowledge of this band, which always makes me a little wary, so it was a wonderful surprise to enjoy it so much. Love the blend of rocking out hard and soulful ballads. Gives me all the feels!

Gran descubrimiento, mucha onda y poder

This fuckin rules!

This is really good. Skin's vocal range is incredible and is definitely the album's strength but there are some rocking guitar riffs. I also like the squelchy bass. The fact that there are a few quieter songs mixed in with the heavier tracks gives a nice pacing and moment to breathe. It's also very cool to hear an openly queer, black woman singing about some of these lyrical themes in a heavy rock band. I'm not aware of many bands that meet that description nowadays, let alone 1999. Not in the mainstream, anyway. Loved it!

I think I would've been absolutely obsessed with this if I heard it when it came out. This is exactly up my alley. I love the trip-hop and nu-metal influences, and the vocals are gorgeous and intense in equal measure. I love the heavy lyrical themes on racism and feminism too.

Like a punch to the face in the best possible way. Unapologetic and emotional.

I've been biting my tongue Been so subtly kind I've got to think so selfishly 'Cause you're the face inside of me I've been biding my days, you see Evidently it pays I've been a friend with unbiased views Then secretly lust after you So now you feel lusty, you're bored and bemused You want to do someone else So you should be by yourself Instead of here with me Secretly Trying hard to think pure Bloody hard when I'm raw You're talking out so sexually 'Bout boys & girls & your friggin' dreams Now you feel lusty, you're hot and confused You want to do someone else So you should be by yourself Instead of here with me Secretly So now you've been busted, you're caught feeling used You had to do someone else You shoulda been by yourself You had to do someone else You shoulda been by yourself Instead of here with me Secretly THIS is what I am here for. I never heard of this band or album before, but this is excellent and I love it. 5/5

Heftig, maar wat goed! Geweldig gezongen, verder ook goed en verrassend. Echt iets anders

Magnificent album. Their first i've bought on CD

I enjoyed this album so much. The lead singer is such a rock star. The presence, the heaviness, the lyrics. It’s great all around.

Honestly, one of the biggest and best surprises since I started this project, nearly 200 albums ago. I am stunned that I missed this band in the 90s. I had heard the name but somehow never came across any of their music and boy did I miss out! Musically it’s fantastic. The unfortunately named Charlie Big Potato has the chunky grooves and creative time signatures that would make any prog band blush. The lead singer has pipes FOR DAYS. She is one of the rare breed that can actually use her voice like an instrument, getting gritty when needed, or sounding ethereal and angelic when it suits the song. Add to this mix the very good lyrical writing and you have an album for the ages. Why this band wasn’t even bigger I will never know, but it’s a 5 star album for me.

I had no idea what this was going to be going in. I like it that way sometimes. I was blown away by this album. It was as if Rage Against the Machine had a lesser known but just as good and captivating cousin. And the vocals - the VOCALS. Skin is absolutely incredible and has great range. Soft and angelic one moment, gritty and angry the next. Her voice alone is worth the price of admission. The band is tight and the lyrics are always interesting. I loved this album. A rare, hard to come by 5 stars for a band and album I’d never heard of. I need more of this. Standout tracks: Charlie Big Potato, On My Hotel TV, We Don’t Need Who You Think You Are, The Skank Heads, Lately

An interesting mix of styles, it kept me on my toes. The singer's got an incredibly powerful voice and a unique p.o.v. Glad to be introduced to this group.

Wow I was shocked this was made 25 years ago, because I would have believed it if I had been told it was released yesterday. Really great variety of music that at times made me think of Portishead, at times Muse… Great!

This album might be a bit less dynamic as their two previous ones, but the album still stands as a great product of the heavy rock in the 90's. Good funky hardrock with especially space for the bassguitar to excel, lyrics with a message, highly political, and a superb voice of lead-singer Skin. This band was massive in Europe in the 90's and I think I certainly didn't give them the credit back then they deserved. They fit my musical and societal tastes like a glove.

Their masterpiece. Skin tears your heart every time she sings "Secretly". Their prev records are good, but this is over the top.

4.5 stars

Loved them!!! soooo good! first time listener and I'm a fan :)

My favorite album so far, loved the vocals, loved the ambient vibe. Will listen to this often again I’m sure

loved it

Oh those 90s nostalgia berries!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this listen. I had no idea what to expect, and it does start off in a different direction than I thought, but it was a great listen. Edgy. Direct. The lyrics are epic!

Reminds me of Muse; don't mind that at all.

Was pleasantly surprised at what this was. Will probably listen again.

brilliant punk rock. first song felt a bit repeditive though.

First half is definitely better but some really good feminist metal

In my humble opinion, this album is kinda all over the place. In a great way though. Got Muse vibes on the first track, loved the vocals in general. a touch of Gilmour-esque guitar work.

What if Linkin Park used DNB instead

truly surprised by this band, great singing and instrumentals throughout. a couple songs might be a little too long but the powerful singing is awesome to listen to. missing a true, catchy jam but still a great surprise on this list

Zalige vrouw met een prachtige stem. Ook de hardere stijl is nice

Enjoyed

Awesome

Perfection, a band I have seen live a bunch of times, including at a Radio 1 Roadshow around the release of this album.

oh sheesh

Voor deze albums doe ik het! Wat een ontdekking! Wat een stem!

Bra!

Hated Skunk Anansie first time round. Can't quite believe how much I enjoyed this

Surprisingly great

Charlie Big Potato 4 On My Hotel T.V. 3.8 We Don't Need Who You Think You Are 4.1 Tracy's Flaw 3.7 The Skank Heads 3.8 Lately 3.4 Secretly 3.3 Good Things Don't Always Come to You 3.4 Cheap Honesty 3.7 You'll Follow Me Down 3.6 And This Is Nothing That I Thought I Had 3.4 I'm Not Afraid 3.2 Post Orgasmic Sleep 3.6 Score: 3.615384615

punk rock und alternative rock. gfallt ma scho gut tbh. 4/5 tracy‘s flaw gfallt ma besonders gut, secretly auch

Surprised by how much I enjoyed this, and now I want to listen to more by them.

This was GREAT. Gritty buzzsaw riffs supporting a belting female vocalists.

What a journey. This really had it all. What a set of pipes on the singer. She sure could wail and belt it out. Not my cup of tea for music. But talented and good production.

Really nice!

What a marvelous voice. The whole package is good, but off and on for me. 3.5/5

Best Track - "Charlie Big Potato"

Started out with all the cliches of late 90s top 40 metal just British. All the sudden they launch into more original and catchy songs with great hooks. Who knew I needed some "clit rock" in my life.

A powerfull female singer, incredible guitar solos and instrumentals... can someone explain me why I haven't heard of this band before, cause this is dope!!!

Top : The Skank Heads Flop : I'm Not Afraid

First band I went to see... In my head they opened with Charlie Big Potato... I remember the energy, excitement and musicianship. As an album, I'm not sure it really stands up over time but great at the time. And Skin OBE has got a great, unique voice.

Better as it went along

Really cool stuff

finally a turn of the century british band with ideas!

Angry, late 90’s punk

4+ Solid, could reach a 5 with a relisten or two. Also there is something very Edward Hopper-ish about the cover.

Felt like something they'd play in 'real world' from the Matrix films. Noisy, punky but I weirdly liked it!

Really enjoyed the first half of this but trailed off. Never heard of them so was a pleasant surprise.

For whatever reason I missed out on this when it came out (1999 was a Metal Year for me if I recall correctly) and so, coming to this now for the first time, I did this album totally bass-ackwards - reading the lyric sheet first, coming away unimpressed, and steeling myself for an unpleasant hour spent with Skin, Cass, Ace, and Mark Richardson (how come the drummer doesn't get a cool nickname?). As an Oasis fan I should definitely know better than to judge a book by its, uh, book. (I'll listen to *Be Here Now* as penance during my workout later, I promise.) And then I heard Skin's voice - ferocious, raw, and yet technically controlled in a way that *maybe* only Dolores O'Riordan could also pull off in this era - and now I'm a believer. Turns out those endless choruses are a feature and not a bug when it's *her* singing them; on the centerpiece "Secretly" she approaches what I imagine a female Kelly Jones would sound like, which is about the highest compliment I can pay to a Britrock singer. And her bandmates pull their weight also, whether racing forward ("On My Hotel T.V.," "The Skank Heads"), rocking out ("Cheap Honesty," with a riff that would be right at home on *Superunknown*), or finding a perfect midtempo Britpop groove ("Lately," which feels like if Alanis Morissette fronted Feeder). The occasional electronic touches are a bit period-piece-y but never out of place or distracting. Like Elizabeth Bennet, I'm glad my first impressions were wrong about this one.

Pleasantly surprised

Quite decent.

7 - Black lesbian aggressive rock. Pretty solid

Enjoying the second half more. Maybe getting used to their sound. Great voice and I like the heavy riffs then melodic vocals. Thought I would like it heard first few numbers and was wavering however got so much better as progressed.

I only remember hearing of the name but not the music. I liked it, nice harder songs mixed with some more alt.

Cool! This is what I would imagine future music would sound like as a kid

Muy buenos temas

wow, phenomenal voice, very nice

Tells a story, many stories, raw and powerful singing, heavy excellent heavy metal guitar

Where is the praise for this band?!? I swear I’ve never heard of this band before and I’ve never heard anybody talk about this band before, and that feels like a crime. This band should get all of the praise that artist like Lenny Kravitz gets for creating classic rock music, but with a modern flare. That’s literally what this band is doing only way better and much more original (and frankly less religious, which is a massive positive). and when I say original, I really mean original. They’re opening track plays with Powerpuff Girls style intense, electronic drumming. There’s actually so much variety on this album even though I called it a rock album. You could also call an electronic album as well. Seriously where are all the people talking about how fucking cool this band is, I don’t actually know anything outside of this album so maybe they fall off hard and all their other stuff might be low quality, but if it’s anything like this album, I have a lot to look forward to.

I love that they categorize their music as "clit rock." This was a really good album and made me deep dive into their earlier stuff. Good music all around from their 90s output.

Esse álbum me surpreendeu positivamente. Esperava algo genérico e queimei a língua. QKZxHBB Khan.

Not as good as Paranoid and Sunburnt

So I was very startled/scandalized by parts of this album since I thought the album cover was a bunch of white dudes at first, but I loved it musically!! lots of bangers

I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt, but its probably closer to a 3.5. So many great ingredients!

this is fucking awesome, i put this album off forever but i was very surprised by how much i loved this

That was genuinely different

I admit when I heard the first track I thought, “oh List, not again!” But this album slowly won me over, one cut after another. It's an album that doesn't pull any punches and is not "chill" as the title might suggest, but it's got the punk rocker in me bobbing his head.

If I went to Ameoba Records, this would be in my bag. What a cool find. Stuff like this is why I continue on with this project. Never heard of this band before. Lots of creativity here. A tight band with a great lead singer that holds an apparent over arching message of rockin' with a purpose. A gem of 90s brit rock. Thanks for the recommendation, Robert Dimery

"Post Orgasmic Chill" was a surprise for me. The album gets better with each successive track, and the songs more varied.

Definitely surprised me. Crazy range on this album

impressive. Great vocals, band has incredible range.

Really really good

I like this album, it's full of a lot of emotion. Some of it felt a little bit like trying to be tough but most of it wasn't like that.

loving the vocals. usually hate alt rock but this got more soul i like it

When to listen: Want to kick down a door and feel powerful. When I saw punk and hard rock I was like nah but this was a really enjoyable listen. I especially liked "Lately." Her voice is amazing and it was very listen-able.

definitely fresh. these dudes rock for sure, but it weirdly goes from like evanescence to nickelback to bon jovi and back again. the incidental breakbeat spots really finish off the vibe of myspace-flavored goulash, and at least on the first listenthrough you're not really given an opportunity to get bored of it. the vocal delivery is definitely cool, but do i like it? really not sure. any more listening i might get annoyed but as is it's just sufficiently stimulating. my favorite song is Secretly or Tracy's Flaw

I totally fuck with this album for no reason. It's just sick and pretty creative - just cool people not afraid to make weird great music that's very much its own style. I've listened to it a bunch and while there might be a miss here and there, for the most part the songs are varied as hell while also being memorable and really solid. Lowkey refreshing getting some interesting stuff out of 1001albs 8.2/10

I suppose this is contemporary rock with some bits of extra melody especially in the lead singers softer approach. I never heard of Skunk Anansie in my life. I have not idea why not? I really really enjoyed this discovery. I might even find it odd internally, within myself to find a band, with a basic rock contemporary genre going on that I would be so into them, but it is a testament to how high quality they really are. The truest mystery is why I really had NEVER had them on my radar?

No idea what to expect with this album but i seriously mess with it so far. Reminds me of smt like incubus or chevelle but weirder. The vocals are amazing holy shit. Some tracks like cheap honesty almost give me Soundgarden vibes. Will fs check this band out more, thoroughly enjoying this album. 8.8/10

256/1001 :: Skunk Anansie - Post Orgasmic Chill Heard before? ❌ Would I revisit? ✅ Rating: 8 Listen before you die: Yes Frankly I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this album or band. Indie rock from 1999 is generally my strike zone but nope came in totally blind. Either way, right out of the gate this albums blasts off of a cannon. The instrumentation is diverse and complex. The singer can be abrasive but also beautiful. Which compliments heavy riffage as well as the transitions into softer moments. I will say the first half of the album seemed stronger than the second half but without 10s of listens an album like this is truly hard to evaluate. The only other thing that caught me off guard was the repeated use of the N word. You just don’t hear that in rock N roll very much. Great album for a list like this though…

Interesting, not my thing

I saw Britrock and some band I had never heard of and my butthole immediately clenched in anticipation of another dull anglophonic experience. Fortunately, Skunk Anansie goes hard. This album is far more mid-orgasmic frenzy than post orgasmic chill. As an aside, I initially read the name as Post Orgasmic Chili. That's a better time to eat chili than pre-orgasm, but still not an ideal chili experience.

Good solid rock

Listening session: march 3rd, while getting ready in the morning Listened to before: no Thoughts: I grew up with Stoosh because my mom loves Skunk Anansie, but I’ve actually never listened to this album. While I still prefer Stoosh, this album is great and has a good diversity of songs Favourite tracks: Secretly, On My Hotel TV & The Skank Heads

Hadn't heard of this band before, but I was very positively surprised

A great combination of metal punk electronic & industrial very well put together. Seal all that with a singer who has a fantastic voice & incredible vocal skills. This is excellent.

It does take a few tracks for the lead singer's voice to grow on you, but once it does, it's actually really fun. I like her singing in the slower tracks, like Tracy's Flaw, Lately, and You'll Follow Me Down better than the faster ones. The music, however, is fantastic! Great guitar work, wonderful beats, love it! This would be worth a 3 on the music alone, and a 2-3 for the singing, but together I'll bump it up to a 4. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this album. Best song: You'll Follow Me Down

Wow! Another great find from this project! The lead singer’s voice is great, and the band really rocks. I can’t put a finger on who they remind me of- maybe Linkin Park?? But great female vocalist. I’ll definitely be doing a deeper dive into this group.

Clitrock is such a banger genre name. And this is a banger album! The tracks are varied, ranging from songs that are closely Britrock-related to harder, rougher sounds. A constant between tracks, however, are the incredible vocal performances.

Charlie big potato soooo peak wtf. Secretly au en riese banger. Leider sind paar tracks skips, darum keis 5i

A rather enjoyable album

I'd only heard 1 song before I think. Decent album.

A record that embodies everything I was looking for a in girl at 20 years old: completely unhinged, plenty of eyeliner, bit of a smoker's cough and emotionally unavailable - brim with the kind of charisma that makes bad decisions feel REAL nice. Some surprising diversity in the mix, brewing up an interesting and satiating stew of grunge hard rock/metal and youthful angst that seems to truly give no fucks. I recommend wearing a condom.

WOAH HO HO! What do we have here?! Black feminist rage, you say? WITH aggressive guitars?? (<-- says Brad.) FROM 1999?!! Add a nod to Cruel Intentions (the movie) and I'm officially on board. I really enjoyed this whole album! Not really any skips imo.

A really solid album. A brilliant vocal range and mixing of styles. Great bass lines. Almost ‘Tool’ like percussion on the opener. Nice job.

I think I had a bit of a downer on Skunk Anansie in the 90s maybe? Not sure why, because this is pretty good. It's tiny bit too polished really, and there aren't any super memorable songs, but Skin has an absolutely great voice and there's really fire and passion behind it.

I appreciate the rawness of this album!

I've never heard of these guys before - it was pretty decent - the vocals were really good and it was interesting to hear those kind of vocals go with a harder rock sound.

I had not heard of Skunk Anansie before but I really rocked out through it! Cheap Honesty gave me some Coheed vibes!

If Tina Turner went harder. Strong vocals and powerful melodies carry throughout.

Pretty damn good. A pretty diverse set of songs and styles with vocals that are equally as versatile and flexible. Vocalist Skin is really the highlight here; her vocals absolutely soar in the mix when they need to, like on 'Charlie Big Potato', or they can take on a gentler form, like on the throwbacky 'Tracy's Flaw'. And with fiery, politically-driven, in-your-face lyrics on a lot of these songs, it's hard not to love her. She's a bit over-the-top sometimes, though in a mostly good way, and reminds me a lot of TMV's vocalist Cedric in that sense. My favorite vocal performance has to be on 'Lately', especially on that chorus. And the playing is pretty tight here, with some stuff drawing from contemporary nu-metal, to just your standard metal-fusion sounds. Some killer riffs too, 'The Skank Heads' particularly stands out. 'Secrely' is an oddball track in the mix here that still works relatively well, a song that just proves that Skin's vocals can mesh with just about any instrumental thrown at them, even if it's a whole-ass string section. I also really love that monstrous guitar solo in the latter half of the song. The ending of 'Good Things Don't Always Come To You' is another standout moment in the tracklisting here, just the wave of distorted singing against that guitar melody was epic. And while not entirely in the forefront, the bass was pretty good on this album, too, especially on the funkier 'And This Is Nothing That I Thought I Had'. Definitely a gem in the list here, will be checking out more of these guys for sure.

Fun take on alternative rock/metal that brings a lot of uniqueness to the genre. The more popular songs are fairly forgettable, but there are a lot of hidden gems in this album that make it worth exploring the deeper cuts. Top tracks: On My Hotel TV, We Don't Need Who You Think You Are, Cheap Honesty

Really really liked most of this album. Faves: Charlie’s Big Potato, Tracy’s Flaw, Lately, Cheap Honesty, You’ll Follow Me Down

I had never heard of this band before, and I figured this was another case of forcing an unknown UK band down our throats. I was pleasantly surprised. This album sounds like it inspired bands like Evenescence since it came out a few years before some of their bigger hits. I think the first half of the album was a little stronger over all, but it was a good listen and I will likely recommend it to people.

This just predates my getting into heavier music, and in particular a lot of female fronted rock bands, which is a shame because listening to it now I very much like it. But better to discover it now rather than never!

PLEASANTLY SUPRISED AND DELIGHTED TO LISTEN TO THIS!

Fucking Incredible

more introductions to bands. this time a british alt rock group, blowing speakers between all the softer-sounding britpop efforts at the time. out of everything featured in this album, the vocals are a huge standout. very operatic and dramatic, compared to all the other alt rock albums i've heard. sometimes this level of performance works for the songs, but other times i feel like it's a little too much.

Crank it up and rock out.

I had no preconceived notions about this record or this artist. I was pleasantly surprised. This is weird, but good weird, a mashup of disparate musical styles that somehow works. I'll have to listen to this some more and see if anything else they've done is similar or perhaps better!

Very enjoyable album! It reminded me of Guano Apes (one of my fave bands from my teenage years).

The vocals are very good and the music is okay. 4 stars or B-.

Yet another great band I hadn't heard of before yesterday. I just love "Charlie Big Potato", the opening track. That's how you begin an album. From "Lately" onwards, "Post Orgasmic Chill" takes a calmer direction, before briefly getting heavier on "ATiNTITIH". I prefer this album's first half. 4 stars for "Post Orgasmic Chill".

Really liked the first half but it faded on me

loud. in yo face. rock! emotion.

This is a very nice change of pace. Vocals and emotion on this list? About time. 4.

This easily beats 90s hip-hop any day of the week. No contest at all. The sounds aren't obviously sampled or looped, which is a huge plus, and there are acoustic instruments, riffs, melodies... the whole nine yards. The album isn't perfect, nor close to it, but it exceeds my expectations by so much that I'm in awe by the end. The problem with 90s music is that it jades you, prepares you for the worst, grants you nightmares of noise-rock and post-punk and industrial metal and "classic" hip-hop. But there's a reason grunge and rock are generally the most beloved genres of the 90s. They've aged significantly better. Skunk Anansie is no different, for the most part. The vocals stand out immediately. Clearly, these guys have a lot of energy and soul. The opener, Charlie Big Potato is packed with excellent contrasting textures, decent riffs, and solid choices in instrumentation. The vocals and percussion are the strongest elements here. But On My Hotel TV is really where the album picks up steam. It reads like early-2000s performative punk, maybe even something you'd hear in a punk revival musical (if that sort of thing even exists). Guitar riffs are obviously the best part of punk, and this song combines these great riffs with (unlike punk) actually decent vocals. Tracy's Flaw is arguably even better, with soulful vocals over an alt-rock-type instrumental and musical climaxes left and right. Secretly partly blew me away for the same reason. The alt theme is recurring, but Good Things Don't Always Come To You is a good example of it: blinding, relentless guitar lines, soaring vocals that give a nod to punk without being it... and, of course, riffs. 4/5 Key tracks: Tracy's Flaw, Secretly, Good Things Don't Always Come To You

What a surprise jam! I’ve got all the time in the world for 90s alternative and this group did an insanely good job covering so many different aspects of the genre in one record, without it feeling disjointed. Really cool sound! Best Track: Lately

Very impressed by this. It rocks, and it does a bunch of other stuff, too. I don't think I'd encountered Skunk Anansie before, and I am very glad I did.

It was creative and had some nice variety. Good vocals. Couldn't really parse the message, but then again I usually can't.

I haven't thought of this band in forever and I'm pretty surprised to see them on here. They never really broke stateside and having a Black woman singer of an alternative metal band in a world of Fred Dursts and Jonathan Davises certainly contributed to that. This album is very much anchored by Skin's elastic voice. The first five songs are excellent. On My Hotel TV is the most aggressive and confrontational song of the album; has an excellent bridge. The ache of Tracy's Flaw builds to an enormous crescendo with strings. The problem comes in with the back half of the album, which sounds tailor-made for radio play. The songs become more saccharine with obvious melodies and weak bridges. Lately and Secretly kick off this second half and are both guilty of this. Same for album closer I'm Not Afraid. And This is Nothing That I Thought I Had is the only "heavy" song in this part of the record, but doesn't really stand out. All in all, I appreciate it for being on this list if it means one less Britpop or UK folk record, but in terms of essentials it doesn't really fit the bill. If the whole thing were like those first five songs we're looking at a possibly 5-star album.

This scratches the same itch for me as Evanescence. Unfortunately to the point where I may need skin grafts.

This is genuinely very interesting. It's a combination of so many different sounds in a very unique package that feels almost timeless.

4.5 I gotta be real with yall, I was NOT excited to listen to an album called “Post Orgasmic Chill” by a band I’ve never heard of called “Skunk Anansie” yesterday, and genuinely put it off until the very end of my day. I figured it’d be some British electronica rock and for the first minute of the album, I felt justified and bitter! Then the album opened up and become something I’ve absolutely gaga over, maybe one of the best “totally new to me” bands/albums I’ve encountered so far! A little SOAD, a little Alanis, a little AFI, but all sung but a cool black British woman with a KILLER voice. And this band fucking tears it up. Keeps it theatrical too, which I don’t mind, with lots of strong melody lines and tight harmonies. I prefer the rocking bits to the pop/rock bits, but those tracks aren’t bad per se (and very much elevated by the singer’s performance), just less my tempo. This is really fucking awesome, and I’m looking forward to listening to it again.

Sounds like my high school girlfriend yelling at me

Great punk, enjoyed this a lot!

4 out of 5. First time listen and pleasantly surprised. This album hits.

Really awesome. I think it’s hindered by the songs that aren’t hard rock. The vocalist really pairs with that sound well. Righteous anger. The other songs just feel weaker.

I had never heard of this group and was pleasantly surprised by it. It’s a heavier album than I expected.

I have been hearing about this group since their first album, and in order to explain why I never listened to them before requires me to tell a brief story. When I was growing up, there was a candy store near my house called Ralph Rotten 's Nut Pound. The reason I wouldn't eat food from that place is the same reason I haven't listened to this band before, even though I've been hearing about them since their first record came out. You know, I'm kind of disappointed about that. This album was quite a surprise. Excellent musicianship, killer (really fucking killer) vocals, and an effective abandonment of the typical verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge structure. I'm really glad this album came up on the list

Very pleasantly surprised by this. Had never heard of this band, but the vocals combined with the heavy instrumentation is a great sound. The slower, lighter songs definitely don’t hit nearly the same though and definitely drag the album down slightly.

It was cool and unexpected

I did not expect this kind of music from this title LOL. Also what this second track is… something Ohhh I see. It’s black American revolution rock! I dig it! Very unique sound, very few times do I hear bands for the first time! They bang

I listened to this lot quite a bit back in the day, particularly the song they did with Bjork, Weak, and a few other singles. I don't think I ever listened to this album in full, and looking down the tracklist none of the titles leap out at me. I had friends who loved this album, but I had moved on to other, less bald bands. This album still has the raw power and presence of Skin and the melodic talent I recall, but it's more Nu-Metal than I expected. Thankfully without all the shite that made Nu-Metal, well, shite. Turns out I don't think I heard the singles from this one at the time. Turns out the singles are the weakest songs on the album. Luckily everything else is great. I should have listened to this at the time, but I'll be listening to it again.

Powerful stuff

I thought this was a really cool album. I both really liked the instrumentation throughout the album and the singing accompanied it so nicely. It was a great listen through front to back

Starts like Evanescence or Lady Coheed and Cambria but ends a little more country and Nickelback.

I’ve never heard of this band and I’m generally bad at first impressions of albums, but I was surprised at how much I liked this.

I had never heard of Skunk Anansien before, or the vocalist (Skin, I think?), but man, can that girl sing! I really liked some of these songs too…some are hauntingly beautiful. I am not crazy about some of the R rated lyrics, but all in all, I think most of this is really good music. I will have to listen to it again. What a great surprise! Four stars.

Not sure what their deal is, but I dig it

Great Songs: On My Hotel TV, The Skank Heads, Lately, And THis IS Nothing That I Thought I Had Good Songs: Charlie Big Potato, We Don't Need Who We Think You Are, Secretly, Good Things Don't Always Come To You, Cheap Honestly, You'll Follow Me Down, I'm Not Afraid Mid Songs: Tracy's Flaw, Bad Songs

Riktigt bra :)

Never really paid much attention to them back n the day. This s really good. Nothing particularly memorable but I like the vibe. Falls off a bit towards the end. Skin has a great presence Went down a rabbit hole and discovered that Skin’s ex wife is a billionaire’s daughter who is now married to Elon Musk’s brother. Unexpected

Really enjoyed the emotional lyrics and incredible vocals. Especially loved "You'll follow me down"

4/5 mainly because I think Stoosh (or maybe paranoid and sunburnt if I was going by pure personal preference) should’ve been the skunk anansie album on the list, it’s good idk maybe just too long I think???

I forgot they existed and I was glad to be reminded

Angry and upbeat. Loved it

Bellissimo, già lo conoscoevo. Voce incredibile

British late 90s rock. Metal and hard rock elements. Lead singers voice is delicate contrast to the hard fast rock.

oooookkkkkk Skunk Anansie! I've always avoided listening to this band because I (unjustly) lumped them in with the corny, 90s slickly produced metal scene of Creed and Evanescence and the like, and the first track was a little bit in that territory. BUT I WAS WRONG. this is soooo much cooler and maybe like the real deal and not the watered down radio edit that those bands were? Anyway I wish I was cool enough in the 90s to have been into this because FUCK YEAH CLIT ROCK I'M SORRY I DIDN'T APPRECIATE YOU SOONER. truly terrible album cover though.

Very interesting. Rocks hard. This is what im doing this for.

prima volta che li ascolto e beh, che dire...

Completely new to me. Very enjoyable.

A very pleasant surprise from a band I've never heard of. This could have been generic riffage but it was not. The riffage was in fact prime. And the vocals and melodies top notch. Probably not something I'd add to the rotation but I'm glad I know Skunk Anansie.

A pleasant surprise! 3.75

Quite varied. Enjoyable overall. 3.5

It's taken me a while to really appreciate Skunk Anansie. I'm not sure what it is but maybe their very punk look had me imagining something a bit grittier or more distorted. Skin's vocals, while impressive, are almost too perfect for this kind of music. But multiple exposures have help me to appreciate their music for what it really is. It's less punk/metal and more hard alt rock with poppy overtones. Nothing wrong with that but it's necessary to adjust your expectations going in.

Great rang of post punk rock from the UK. Great respect to skin for her fantastic voice and control. The band has great range and make some surprising songs blurring genres.

Caught me off guard - very good! Heavy. Evanescence before they existed :)

cool album, i like her voice and the general style of the band

Apple Music had this tagged as Indie, so my expectations were way down going in, but this album went hard. It’s the best mix of trip-hop, post-grunge, punk, and hard rock all rolled together. It’s got attitude, groove, and just enough weirdness to keep things interesting. The guitars hit heavy, the vocals are strong, and the production gives it this dark, cinematic feel that fits perfectly with the sound. And honestly, any Western album that opens with a sitar is going to get props from me. That was an unexpected but awesome touch. Overall, Post Orgasmic Chill was a really good surprise. It hits hard, keeps the energy up, and proves that labels don’t always know what they’re talking about. Favorite song: We Don't Need Who You Think You Are

Powerful would be the best word to describe this one. The first 2/3s of the album is straight up head-banger after head-banger, with ripping guitars and soaring vocals. A good chunk of the album is utterly superb, but the second half slows down slightly and the change of pace doesn’t do it quite as much for me. There are still strong moments in this back half but it does hold the album back as an entire collection for me. Still extremely enjoyable though.

really good and a really dynamic album, very close to a 5.

At this point in the list, some 630 albums deep, I find it hard not to scoff at an album whenever I look it up on Wikipedia and see: 1) the band who made it is British, and 2) its entire "Legacy" section is just "it was in this book." It's like, I get it, Mr. Dimetry and company. You like British acts that most people on this side of the globe have never heard of before. I mean, if there's anything I know about Serious Music Critics™, it's that they damn **love** British music. After all, why do you think the only "country of origin" makers in this thing are "US," "UK" and "other?" And of course the Brits made a lot of good music — need I mention many more names than The Beatles? But there comes a point where the Randomizer's flashed so many up in your face, seemingly at the expense from more albums from "other," that you really hafta start wondering if the music of merry ol' England is really **that great** or not. Didn't those guys also produce "Fast Food Song" by Fast Food Rockers? Ah, but I shouldn't pre-emptively judge an album just because the band's nationality happens to be a little overrepresented (**two** albums from the "Bitter Sweet Symphony" guys!). That wouldn't exactly be fair, now would it? And I'm really glad I didn't let that happen here, 'coz goodness me, I **really** enjoyed this album. Maybe not on track one; it was a bit too "drum n' bass" and restrained for my taste... But by track two, gawd, this album just fuckin' **floors it**. Let me tell you right here and now: Skin's vocals are the star of this album. They are just... Phenomenal. I've always loved it when women sing over metal guitars, and now that I've heard a **black woman** doing it? Oh, I need to hear this **more**. It's great, honestly. But it's not all metal, no. I was sort of expecting this thing to be akin to Rage Against The Machine, but you've got a couple of tracks in here that lean in way more to hard rock and alt. rock. And y'know what? They're great, too! I was going "OH FUCK YEAH" to these songs as much as I was the metal ones, but goodness if I didn't enjoy them nearly as much. And the strings — the songs with the **strings**. Oh, wowie wow. Can't tell me this band doesn't know their way around a power ballad either, goodness. Really, I feel like if I have any problems with this album, it's that I wish it could've been a **bit** more metal towards the end... Again, the ballads and alt. rock stuff is very good, but damn, I don't think anything topped the high of launching into "On My Hotel TV". Plus, there's a review that states this album might be a **bit** too perfectly produced for its own good, and even not having this group's other albums, I might hafta agree a little? Which, hey, if it gets me curious to check out their other stuff, that ain't a bad thing at all. So, yeah, another day, another British album pretty obscure to most Western audiences. But it's a damn good album nonetheless. Maybe Western audiences should've been a bit more aware of this, and I can only think it's for the best that I am now. Way to go, UK.

Pretty good 90's alternative, but not much else to say. Solid 4 Stars.

GOD DAMN. That is absolutely not what I expected to hear from this album - or even on this list. This is a wild discovery. Such a good album I played it again the same day. The vocalist is full of energy and has quite a good range but the instrumental part makes it so good. Groovy alt metal riffs and sick basslines are all over this album. A little bit of Deftones feel here and there. That is a band I will be getting into very soon. I'd really recommend anyone to check out this album.

Know the hits(although it could be that some of those are also Skin's solo work), but never followed this band's output. I really enjoy this album. Skin's voice is great, musically they can hits hard if they want, but they also have almost ballads. Very diverse and highly enjoyable.

Really good album, it had a lot of good songs and it does sound like the quintessential hard-ish rock album. Id put it on and theres definitely some songs that are now on my playlist.

Very nice

Pretty good.

Fair warning to anyone going into this album blind; the title is incredibly misleading. However, this is an exceptionally well-crafted, genre-bending, meticulously produced record that keeps the listener engaged for its entire hour-long runtime. And while the sound is mostly rooted in the 90s, it does feel somewhat ahead of its time given the amount of experimentation happening in each track. I had a blast with this, and am excited to go back and pick up on things I missed the first time.

What a great album!! Raw music

Quite enjoyed this; made for interesting driving music

Heard of these guys before. But didn’t expect this, really enjoyed it on a run. She had a great voice and it really complimented the heavy guitar. Simpsons: No

This was interesting. Oddly, this band sounds like a predecessor to Halestorm, but if they were influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I liked it enough to check out more by them. 3.9

Fuck me. Haven’t listened to this in decades. To say I was surprised to see this one come up is to put it mildly. Skunk Anansie is one of those bands we forgot about very quickly as the new century rolled around. This is urgent, propulsive and full-on hard rock. When ‘Secretly’ came up I started belting along through tears. ‘You want to do someone else/ So you should be by yourself/ Instead of here with me/ Secretly’. Floored by these lyrics, this arrangement, this bruised and angry performance. Thank you Cruel Intentions music supervisors, your work continues to be appreciated in 2025. Secretly is the highlight but it’s surrounded by pointed, observant and just great late 90s rock music. Skin is an incredible vocalist. We did her so wrong.

Surprisingly good!!!

Woah - I'd never heard anything about this album before but I'm quite blown away. Tiny bit Alanis Morissette towards the end, but overall the vocals are incredibly powerful and versatile. Instrumentation and textures are killer as well. A wild mix of heavy electronics and modern rock. Will return to this one for sure.

Decent hard rock record

Angry, novel. Very British. Sounds like British Invasion punk/alt.

Really cool. Surprised me

never heard of this band but ill have to check out their other stuff. this was a jam

Powerful!

This is awesome

It's a banger, your honor. Starts much stronger than it ends but I like it a lot

Totally not what I was expecting. The first 30 seconds, I thought it was going to be more electronica, and then the metal and vocals kick in and holy CRAP. Hardcore, man. Real hardcore. I had listened to Saul Williams a while back, and as much as I enjoyed it, there was a lot of use of the N-word, which took me out of it a little. This happened here with this band. I still liked the music, though, but I'm not going to sing along. They started to calm down a bit later on into the album, but MAN. They hit hard. Top tracks: "Charlie Big Potato," "On My Hotel TV," "We Don't Need Who You Think You Are"

I discovered this group about 5 years ago, starting with their rocker I Can Dream off their debut album, and wondered how the hell their sound never made it over to North America. It's awesomely intense. The only friend who knew about them was my Irish buddy, who thought they were Skunk and Nancy as a kid. I'm kind of surprised we're getting their third album because the first two are just as good and not all that different in my opinion - and contrary to wikipedia that says they completely changed their sound. They were always some kind of new metal or hard rock, with softer undertones at times, permitted because of Skin's incredible voice. And their lyrics were always just as fierce as their sound. Oh well, at least we got one of their albums, so others besides me can discover a new band with an awesome sound. On this album, the best in your face rockers are Charlie Big Potato, On My Hotel TV, The Skank Heads, Cheap Honesty, and And This is Nothing that I Thought I Had. The best softer tracks are Tracy's Flaw, Lately, Secretly, and I'm Not Afraid. The album isn't perfect (a couple songs are just okay) and there's too many unnecessary add-ons at the end of songs, but it's still very, very solid. Somewhere between 4 and 4.5.

Admittedly, I was not very familiar with Skunk Anansie before listening to this record. But this is a great addition to this list, really a fantastic album. The lead singer has a powerful voice and sings everything with conviction. Great feeling when you discover a band that you've managed to overlook for so long. Looking forward to exploring more of their catalog.

Favorite Song: Lately

I once saw skunk anansie at reading festival as a teenager. I remember them having a ton of energy. The energy of that comes across in this album, but I think I prefer the debut one

Skunky

Never heard of the band before but I will definitely be checking out more from them. Really enjoyed this one, the singer especially really stood out. Top Track - Lately

The Good: We are in a post orgasmic state! The Bad: We didn’t get to experience the orgasm… The Ugly: Wondering why we’d want a skunk to get us to a post orgasmic state… Ahhh, the late ‘90s, the end of a millennium, and more so the end of consistent great music. I was in a phase where the music I was listening to all involved female vocalists: Macy Gray, Sarah McLachlan, and Skin were the main ones. This album, for me, was perfect as it mixed a lot of the “modern” sounds, like drum & bass, as well as house, into a straight forward rock concept. I had a colleague years later who tried to convince me that Skin did not know how to carry a tune, and that she was always singing behind, or in front of, the beat… go figure. While going through a phase of over a week where this 1001 list spurned out nothing but shit, I went into my own CD collection as started listening to albums I hadn’t listened to in a while… and this album was one of them. Thus, a big smile presented itself when the album cover presented itself as the album of the day! I am, however, conflicted as to what score I should give this album… and I know that, though I really love the album, it isn’t 5*… So I will downgrade 4 1/2* into a more than solid 4*

Weirdly good?

Never heard of these guys before. I like them.

Wow, absolute banger. Didn’t quite get there, but the highest 4 I could give.

This really surprised me. Tracy’s flaw, lately and secretly the standouts. Just snuck a 4

FINAL REVIEW i dont have time to write one now. 4/5 NOTES 5:58 pm - ive head this band name before, but i dont know much other than they are punk? two punk albums in a row, let's go for it. 6:05 pm - only one song in, but this seems more metal than punk? i like it a lot!!! 8:39 pm - after taking a break to eat dinner and take a nap, i've finished the album!! it's really great, very much that 00s hard rock sound, but with it's own unique twist. the main vocalist is really amazing too. i definitely preferred the fast/harder songs, but the slower ones were great too. 4/5 so far.

So many bangers. Crazy how all the Americans on this site don't know who they are and how influential they were

Bordering metal! Great songwriting makes for interesting tracks. Vocals are absolute fire. This type of rock doesn’t hit the mainstream anymore…

Obviously of its era, but really liked it.

A really cool listen, was indeed a post orgasmic chill.

It’s a vibe

This was a real surprise! Like a metal Portishead? Post-grunge, but not really nu-metal. A lot to take in all at one time.

loved it

Liker best når tempoet senkes litt.

Favorite Track: Lately

Skunk anansie This band sounds really good after the modern lovers and mudhoney. I dug it!

Kind of a vibe, some cool riffs. Some songs reminded me of 90s bond movies. Arrangements and delivery were cool, not sure it was memorable enough to come back to but a fun listen

Really liked it.

A real mix of punk rock and more radio friendly pop rock of the era. Almost Primus like in places. Loved the vocals. Some real anger in there. Id be interested to hear more of their punky stuff. Surprised to have not heard of these.

This chick can sing

Never heard of this band. Immediately loved that there was a lead female vocalist, and she is amazing.

Why have I never heard of these guys before? Within 30 seconds, I went from "ah man, not gonna like this" to "holy shit, this chick can sing". I loved hearing this album for the first time. Passionate, emotional, politically driven, and angry. I'm guessing this had a major influence on evanescence, flyleaf, etc. "On my hotel TV" reminds me of Rage against the machine and is probably my favorite track, but I enjoyed all of them. I also maybe hear some influence by In Living Color. Also, maybe Tracy Chapman? "We don't need who you think you are" and "Tracy's Flaw" were right up there as favorites, too. The album has multiple radio friendly hits - I'm so baffled how these guys aren't/weren't massive. Great listen from front to back. I'll definitely check out their other stuff now.

Besides the incredibly hard to listen to song 2 on the album, I actually really enjoyed this grunge/r&b album

That was cool as hell, passion and raw energy, goes hard

This grew on me a surprising bit. I wasn’t sure about it in the beginning because it felt a little too much like all the other British albums this author throws on the list, but the more I listened, the more the vocals grew on me, the more the lyrics hit, the more the instrumentation started grooving. I was really into it by the last track. I went back and skimmed through it and I must say, pretty darn good. Only complaint would be that it feels a bit aimless. No sense of direction, but ultimately a very quality album. I enjoy it. 4/5

Overall: 8/10 I had absolutely no idea what to expect from this as I had never even heard of this group or album in passing before, so I decided to just put it on and go along for the ride. I'm so glad I did that cause I enjoyed it a lot more with the element of mystery involved. First off, the vocals are straight fire, and so much of the singer's personality comes through in the music. Second, the bassist absolutely slaps (lol). He's incredible and I found myself focusing on him a lot. The music itself ranges from heavy, in-your-face rockers to pretty, slow ballads and the vocalist handles both equally well. This is why I'm doing this challenge. I want to discover new music and this is certainly something new that has the potential to join my regular rotation. Fav Song: Least Fav Song: Good Things Don't Always Come to You

This. Album. Rocks! Only 50 or so albums in, but this has been the best find on the list so far. Great variety, pulsing and melodic metal, and the lead singer’s voice is simply amazing.
