Reviews (page 4 of 7)
this was an interesting listen! Started off incredibly heavy, with lyrics that were pretty harsh and uncomfortable, but then transitioned into a rock album with a lot of emotion. Really enjoy the vocal performance on this one, but often find the production a bit over-the-top. mid 3

Not bad but it’s not really my music. I think it’s too close to Nu Metal.
Didn't know much about Skunk Anansie but this was a pretty good listen. Not the best I've heard from this but all in all a solid album.
Ok, algunas cosas copadas. Habría que revisitar eventualmente
I really like the vocals, but this genre and theme the album goes for is just not for me. Ridiculously impressive stuff, but lyrically it's just very in your face like we get it. At certain points in the record, the vocals are just way too much and extremely annoying, but there's a beautiful opposite they achieve too. The genres the album explore are all over the place as well. I thought it was metal but now it's funk? Now it's grungey alt rock? Orchestral pop? Just a very strange collection of songs that doesn't have much cohesiveness. However individually, I like the tracks pretty well. I just can't make sense of this album/latch onto anything, and it's making me feel disengaged. Good things don't always come to you is a fucking banger though.
It was pretty okay. It feels like music and old friend of mine in college would listen to, not quite my cup of tea personally. But I can still respect the music for what it is.
Unexpected, in a good way. Not my jam though.
This was an odd album as all of the ingredients were great. I loved the music but found the mixing/production putting the vocalist to high in the mix distracting. I like powerful female vocals but they also need to be within the mix. I wanted to like this album more.
This is a band I've known about for a bit now, but never really checked out so I didn't really know what to expect. Right off the bat, the vocals are incredibly powerful. Skin's voice is so raw and passionate it completely caught me off guard. To be frank, she's the main draw to this whole album. The lyrics are politically charged and also deal in racism and prejudice against queer folk, seeing as how Skin identifies as a queer woman. This is the most compelling aspect of the music to me. The first handful of tracks are powerful alt metal with driving guitars and slightly funky bass. The songs where the energy really kicks up are the best songs on the album. The more slow burn songs are pretty hit or miss though, as the raw edge of tracks like "Hotel TV" and "Charlie Big Potato" is missing entirely in songs like "We Don't Need" and "Secretly". Although in the song "Good Things" this slow building approach actually pays off with a wild effects-laden breakdown. Sadly though for me, the majority of this album is pretty alright to middling. The instrumentation doesn't go far enough for me to really draw my ears to it. Songs like "Skank Heads" and "Lately" just feel a bit too boilerplate and the back half of the album really stops being memorable altogether and ends on kind of an unspectacular note. I really like Skin's voice and the overall concept of the songwriting, and I think it's super important to prop up black queer artists in music, especially rock music, I just wish the songs at their core were stronger and more memorable.
There’s definitely intensity here, especially in the vocal delivery, and at times it feels like it wants to break into something more dynamic. But structurally it stays fairly conventional, leaning more on emotional punch than on development. I keep waiting for it to really open up or take a left turn, and it rarely does, so it ends up feeling a bit contained despite the energy.
okey dokey, not my type
Starts strong weirdly mellows out towards the end.
Thought it could be a 4 but it dies towards the end. Nothing memorable either.
I'll admit I wasn't in the mood for this type of music. In general, I like metal, and I like a lot of rock, but this type of hard-rock or pop-metal has never appealed to me. There were a few nice songs in there, but nothing I'm going to come back to.
I used to only know Skunk Anansie from their mid-90s stuff ("Weak" anyone?), so I wasn't expecting this... "Charlie Big Potato" is a bit of a shock at first, but once the it gets going, the whole album improves. They mix heavy riffs with these really cool, movie soundtrack style ballads. It has that 90s alt rock vibe, but it's super polished and sounds fresh. Skin is just incredible. Her voice goes from super powerful and edgy to super soft and vulnerable. Songs like "Secretly" and "Tracy's Flaw" are amazing. They've moved away from their punkier sound and into this more cinematic hard rock, but it works really well. It might take a listen to get used to the beginning, but by the end, you can tell they're at the top of their game.
First time listening to the album and band. Hard alternative electric rock that I enjoyed. I would not put on my top 1000. 1 song secretly added to my playlist.
Most of it was fine, but the last few songs were pretty good.
It's alright, just about that, alright. I liked the drum breaks.
I really like Skin’s voice, but this could have done with a couple more stand-out tunes.

Not a bad sound
Knew the band, didnt know about this third album left turn. This is not my genre if choice usually, but the craft is there. Her voice is still brilliant, they make a solid noise and when its quieter you can feel the emotion.
Pretty neato

Fine. Pushed the envelope for sure.
Tweede helft is wat minder intens en is best chill
Somewhere between Evanescence and Mannequin Pussy. But also predates both those bands. Pretty cool.
At first I didn't think I know the band but did recognize secretly. Alright for what it is, but I think other bands did the style better and more memorable
I was sitting in the lobby of a car dealership while my car was getting an oil change, listening to this album on my earbuds. Suddenly the music stopped, but my bluetooth was still connected. I realized it auto connected to my car. So it's very likely the service person saw "Post Orgasmic Chill" on the screen of my car. Not a bad album.
This is a heavy rock group that has the classic 90s grunge sound with clear vocals. The instrumentals are pretty rhythmic, not as stylized some other bands of this same period, but still good. Her voice is pretty good and goes well with the music. I think it all just feels a bit simple put together and would not stand out of a line up. But when she does belt out some notes she sounds great - her voice carries the band for sure.
Shocked by how good this is. Going to have to give this more listens.
Quite enjoyed this one. Only recognised the one song from the Cruel Intentions soundtrack, which is the worst on the album. Nice and varied, and can go hard when it wants to.
3/5
As an American who spent most of the 90s raising kids instead of listening to new music, this one has been a pleasant surprise for me! From thrashing metal to lovely, sorrowful tracks, these guys check all the boxes. Nothing overly memorable, I guess, but a decent listen.
Sounds kind of like some grunge that was a little late for the early 90s with a few industrial elements. Some of the tracks are good, and might have grown on me back in my grunge days in the 90s. Not sure of names because I listened to the full album mix. But the track where the chorus is "Get off Me" was pretty good, and the following track was good as well. Not sure I'd go back to this though. 3/5
It's not that I didn't like a good portion of it. I did. I just couldn't wrap my head around what it is supposed to be. At times the album sounds like Living Colour, Alanis Morrisette, Dio, Tina Turner, and whatever got played in the last half hour of "Headbanger's Ball."
Not sure what to expect from the band name, title and album cover. Had premonitions of acid jazz, reggae or brittronica. Nu-metal vibes hit me with surprise. Not at all displeasing. Killer vocals.
She can sing and sure does in a variety of styles. She brings it hard when she needs to and sings soft and mellow when she needs to. The music is very varied going from pop to grunge to hardcore. I enjoyed listening to this record, but I don't think it's anything I'll revisit soon or often.
It was interesting but not that engaging.
Generic, but not bad. 2.5
Voelde m niet helemaal, maar sure prima "They they they they who the fuck are they (...) They they they gay who the fuck is gay" ✒️🔥 (gegiecheld hierom)
Bin nd so hardrock/metal fan aber 1-2 tracks sind echt geil
Pretty cool, definitely going to revisit a few tracks
Thought I’d like it less because of the name. It was alright.
There is no doubt that Skin has an exceptional voice, and some of the track really did it justice. But not enough of them. I'm glad to have heard it, but that is about as far as it goes. Though it is good enough for a 3.
Yeah some songs are ok
This is what this is about. Heard of them. Never heard them. Thought the name was silly, so the music must be crap. The name is silly. The music isn't crap. Give it a listen.
I *think* I've heard of this band before, being only 8 when this released and hearing about them potentially from Dad. That said, I can't recall a single song they may have performed before listening to this. Straight off the bat, I dig the genre blending in "Charlie Big Potato", from Drum n Bass, industrial metal and Punk. Dyer's (skin's) vocals are killer tool; she has incredible range and control. If the rest of the album is like this, I feel as though I am in for a good time. "We don't need who you think you are" had all the angst and fuzzy guitar riffs I love in this type of music, contrasted straight after the chorus with soft vocals and equally soft drums and guitar chords. "The Skank Heads" had similar energy. "Lately" definitely had more of a 'commercial/accessible' vibe to it compared to all the tracks that came before it. It was an okay track, but that lack of risk taking seen in tracks like Charlie Big Potato takes the music down a notch for me. "Secretly" was the same, though I preferred it over Lately, but can't place my finger on why. Other songs I enjoyed, due to some more of that genre blending risk taking were: "Good Things Don't Always Come to You", "Cheap Honesty"... anything, outside of Charlie Big Potato, that doesn't have a music video it seems haha. I enjoyed my time with this and definitely want to dive into more of their discog.
some of this was pretty sweet
As alt-rock albums go this was fine. Skunk Anansie were about when I was younger, but they never really took off. I liked their earlier stuff as it was a bit more ‘edgy’ and raw. The top review of this album resonates with me and suggests that it’s a bit too produced and that this takes away some of the rawness that usually accompanies alt-rock albums. I’d agree with this. There are no edges to this at all.
There sure are a lot of bands I've never heard of! I guess I appreciate a rock(?) band with a female singer, and also a song called 'Charlie Big Potato' with some strings in. When I was a kiddo I had a book with some Anansi stories in it, so I like the band name too (and that they apparently added "Skunk" to "make the name nastier". Poor skunkos.) Slur count = 9. Apparently 'Secretly' was in Cruel Intentions, which I've seen 8 million times, and yet it did not sound at all familiar. But hey, 2 adverb songs in a row! I don't know if this album got more mellow as I was listening, or if I just got sleepier, but it ended up being on the good side of average for me. We're on a solid streak here! Not quite a 4 though, I think. Highlight: 'Cheap Honesty' (very 90s)
Despite the overall global rating, seeing how high most of the top reviews were gave me a lot of hope for this album. A lot of reviewers were describing a style that sounded like something I'd love. Which in turn made listening to the actual album somewhat disappointing. There were a handful of songs I liked, but for the most part it wasn't really vibing with me. Sad, because it's so very obvious that the band members are pretty talented. Perhaps they have some other albums that I'd like more.
Did not finish, didn't seem promising tho
Post Orgasmic Chill is one of those albums that exceeds my expectations yet lets me down: way more soulful, funky, rockin' than I had any reason to believe, it's still not something I'd necessarily return to, lacking a song or three I'd call eternal. Lyrically, the group is like Rage Against The Machine + Pixies + Alice in Chains, that is, political, weird as hell, and in the shit: 'A lone brother, a lone sister / a home cover, alone'; 'Black, black, black, black, black, black / White, white, white, white, white, white'; 'God licks your face, just like your dog.' But what they have, lamentably, is that 'radio' sound, so that when they go pop, as they occasionally do ('Secretly'), it feels like they are selling out, even if they're remaining true. It's a production thing, right?
It started off a bit slow imo, but really picked up after Tracy's Flaw
Based on the first three songs, I really thought that I wasn't going to like the album. However, when I got to Tracy's Flaw I did start enjoying the songs, at least until I got to Good Things Don't Always Come To You. While there are only a handful of songs I really liked, for a lot of them there were moments in them that I did like. The only song that I truly disliked was On My Hotel TV.
♡: The Skank Heads The Skank Heads slap vraiment (et est excellente pour courir dans les tunnels et dans le Casault) mais je trouve le reste pas très mémorable
More britrock than Britpop, and they did have Kerrang’s support back in the day. I thought after track one it was going to be a horrid noise, but the elements of grunge and dynamic shifts made it more interesting. Ok overall
3.5/5
Yep, evanescence, the early years. I really liked this album. Secrets is a must listen song
OK
i much prefer female rage to male rage
This is harder and heavier than the debut and Skins voice is at the heart of everything. Powerful, angry but surprisingly melodic. She’s a hugely charismatic performer, however the riffs and songs are less memorable. Solid but unspectacular
Pretty good - better than I remember them being.
I know Skunk Anansie by name but never really listened. Decent, will try to return.
Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 2/5
Nogle ganske fine rocknumre imellem.
There's a lot of really good, unique stuff going on here, particularly with the vocals being very R&B/soul inspired (definitely some Whitney Houston inspiration). But I don't know if its the limitations of the genre, or if the band is just wearing their influences on their sleeves a bit too much, but the alt metal genre is just really letting all the unique stuff going on down. A lot of times I'm sitting here going "Oh, that sounds like Korn. Oh that sounds like Soundgarden. Oh that sounds like RHCP". It never really manages to standout out beyond the vocals for me. Songs like The Skank Heads are a dime a dozen for the genre, and it really feels like the band wasting their talents on stuff like that. Most of the rest of the album is at least less derivative than that song is, but not by a ton. Decent enough album for the genre, but nothing that stands out on its own unfortunately, and nothing that manages to wow despite that.
Actually quite a good rock album, but in all there are too many ballads and filler to give it a really good grade
Beautiful voice, the music itself eas decidely meh.
Melodic alt-rock with a female lead singer. The music gets pretty metal at times and even dips into electronica once or twice. It’s a bold style and while I don’t think I’ll play it again, I respect the boldness of it.
What a voice, holy smokes. Sharp and strong and tightly controlled. Shout out to Skin: I was not familiar with your pipes. I also wasn’t familiar with this group at all and was honestly a little put off by the album title (Isn’t that just called “afterglow”?). I cannot say that the album reflects the way I personally feel post-coitus, but I did have a pretty good time listening to it. Alternative metal that’s not embarrassing. Strong instrumentals and deft production all anchored by Skin’s fantastic vocal performance. Like many, many albums of its time, it’s too long and would benefit from some editing.
Enjoyed it, never heard of them before.
Interesting album. There are some harder, driving songs that really hit the mark for me. Others were just kind of meh. Overall a solid find and the kind of find I was hoping for by doing this.
It's fine.. Another why on the list album.
There was nothing special or interesting about this record. The vocals are strong the music is of professional quality but there was nothing in it that felt new or interesting or provocative or influential. Average stuff.
Just something about this rubbed me the wrong way. I feel like I SHOULD like this more than I do, I just don't. It's fine.
Re-listen
This is a band I completely missed in the 90s, but it sounds like they weren’t as popular outside the UK. Unique, technically proficient, interesting message. A big surprise for me. 3.5⭐️
Never heard of them before. Thought this was gonna be bad but it was pleasantly alright.
blew away my expectations, they were so low that it still is only a 3
Yet another album I have absolutely no idea what I am walking into, and with an album title like Post Orgasmic Chill it could either be absolutely kick ass or a total dud. Thankfully this album is pretty fucking dope, and believe it or not is fronted by the very Grace Jones-esc looking lady on the cover. This album is full of very powerful and angsty moments that give this project a lot of spice to play around with. While I wouldn't say the anger of the lead female singer is used to its' fullest potential to make for meaningful Alt Rock tracks here, I would say her vocal range is used in a manner I don't see very often but was quite impressed with. Even with all that being said I am struggling to understand how this album is deemed essential listening by the author other than the technical and unusual factors at play for the time this album came out. It was quite rare to see a female led rock band, let alone one taking the newly formed Alt Rock scene by storm in the late 90s. I enjoyed my stay with Skunk Anansie for the entirety of the 50+ minute of runtime, but I don't think I'll be returning to this project anytime soon as there really wasn't a whole lot that stuck around for me....
kinda cool
Like it 3-5
The vocals are the best part. She has a very good range and the layering is fantastic. Bass lines are also great. While the record is well produced, the instrumentals are somewhat basic. I’ll give it a 3.5, reflected with a 3.
Great voice but can be a bit generic musically in parts.
There’s a lot I like, but it feels a bit too long. Too many slow numbers that didn’t contribute much.
Sounds like a cross between Tina Turner and Faith No More. Which oddly seems to work better than I’d have anticipated.
A middling 90s band with a ripping vocalist. Her range is so impressive and her attitude brings it to fruition. Impressive stuff!
Pretty good album. It's like a 3,7.
Vocals are excellent, enjoyed it more than expected.
The music is great! But the vocals...
All over the place, I don't mean that in a bad way. Unique combo of heavy metal, soft rock, punk, opera. No Doubt, Coheed and Cambria, Stone Temple Pilots. Great voice but I'm not sure it's speaking to me. Throw in a few dank heavy riffs for good measure.
Blind album and artist. I really dont see how this album can be on the list but it was okay I guess.
Bra og litt irriterande
Its OK, but doesn't really touch me.
Interesting discovery. A little obscure sound at start of first track but leveled out to a punk metal rock, female-led vocals.
Quite liked this though didn’t need 2 hours of it.
Good voice and powerful songs. Another day I may have been much more in to this but today it feels good but not great. Some songs I wouldn't mind listening to again but its probably nothing I would seek out.
3 1/2 Stars: The reason I'm listening through this project. Skunk Anansie was a band I've heard of forever, but hadn't ever heard a single song from. Honestly, it's just a band that never got radio play in the U.S. Glad I finally got this introduction. Excellent late 90's alt-rock sound with a fantastic lead vocalist. I'm excited to explore more.
This was a bit weird but interesting.
Definitely not what I expected, but it was pretty good. Probably one and done for me though.
Honestly I didn't hate it. I don't like heavier rock all that much, and this album certainly leaned toward that, but having a good singer that isn't just screaming really makes a difference. I think The Skank Heads was my favorite.
Listened before, a long time ago. Back then I liked it more. it has good songs but overall it bored me today. only three stars.
I've heard of Skunk Anansie but what is it? First track is like nu metal instrumentals with a decent singer (soul vocals). Ooh, some proggy jazz chords too! Nice 2nd track follows the same formula, but more funk rock. Some grungey (Black Hole Sun) style guitars. I quite like it, surprisingly. But not much is totally standout catchy. Strong start but the effect wears off. Best track - Charlie Big Potato 3 stars
Not as chill as the name might suggest... But not unenjoyable. It became a little softer in the second half and there were some decent songs here.
Not all that enamored with this one. By description alone i should be but thats not the case. Its fine just not great. I have a hard time seeing the real appeal though. Its not heavy or aggressive enough to live up to the vibe its trying to give. But its not mellow enough in concept to pull off that side either. Its a strange record that I didnt have a bad time listening to but on the other hand I didnt enjoy what it did either.
I am pleasantly surprised by this record. I enjoyed the blues-influenced tracks on here a lot, and I appreciated the alt-rock/metal tracks too. Favourite Track(s): Tracy's Flaw, The Skank Heads Least Favourite Track(s): On My Hotel TV
there were some good songs but I wasnt a fan.
Never heard of this band and I wanted to like it, but it felt a bit like Evanescence by way of the 90s to me.
It definitely took time to get into this album from this band I’ve literally never heard of before today. Sort of like a mix of Soundgarden, Radiohead, and Alanis Morisette. I wasn’t really feeling the first few songs, but by the end I started to get into it. The more ballad-type songs are pretty good.
Well that was unexpected. The sound is very much middle of the road rock from 1999, but the vocals are amazing. I wish she fronted a better band. Good. Not great. Funny how something like this never translated to America
This was pretty good 90s alt rock when the girl with the nice voice wasn't yelling at me.
7,9/10
I actually enjoyed this. First song was killing me, but on my way to be rejected by my doctor and then hung up on by the PT he referred me to because I got in a car accident it hit me... Not the other car, the music. I liked "Secretly" a lot and a few others like "Lately" and really the entire back half of the album. I prefer the relaxed rock and roll of... Skunk... more than some of the other hard rock crap that's been fed to me lately. I think this album is superior to the Todd Rundgren I heard which I wouldn't expect, and far superior to the likes of Sonic Youth. I was shocked by the content of one song but I didn't listen too closely. They had not imported Parental Advisory by this point in the UK or there would be a lil sticker. It's also so fucking funny that their names are Skin, Cass, Ace, and Mark Richardson.
love the vocals but half the songs don’t do much for me
Typical Skunk. Heavy, mildly aggressive, and confrontational. Skin's voice is great and the power in her delivery adds to the vibe. It's less in your face than previous offerings but it is still an album that doesn't want to be ignored. It's a bit long, which about 25 years ago I didn't mind, but Skin's forthright politic gets a bit wearing to my old ears.
mediocre 90s rock at best
This had a lot more high moments than low moments. The lead singer's voice can get a bit shrieky at times, but in a good way for the most part. I liked the emotion. The guitar riffs and music was kind of generic, but fit nicely. 3.38 / 5 stars
90s British rock again. Who could've guessed. This one's alright. I'll give it this. This is not a redundant inclusion. It's not like this list is swimming in female-fronted alternative-metal albums as it is for something like male-only post-punk albums. However, Skunk Anansie are still one of those acts that really show off this album list's strong UK bias. I guess you had to be there in late 90s Britain to even have a clue who these guys are. Are they good? Kinda? They're not bad. They've got some undeniably good elements. I think lead vocalist Skin has a good voice. Plus, it's always nice to hear a woman singing in a rock band for a change, women of color especially. The instrumental talent is also there. It's not outstanding, but there are musical moments to appreciate. However, I feel like they don't mix together the best. Maybe? Something about the balancing on songs like "Charlie Big Potato" just feels a bit... off? I don't know. I'm also not huge on the writing. Songs like "On My Hotel TV" just don't do it for me in this regard. There are good songs, I swear. "Secretly" is nice. It's one of the songs where the balance between the vocals, writing, and music actually works pretty well. I can tell that there's talent behind this band, but I can't help but feel that Post Orgasmic Chill is a bit lacking in overall cohesion. It's a respectable endeavor, but not one that I see myself revisiting much. 3/5.
# Album Name: Post Orgasmic Chill # Artist: Skunk Anansie # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: A very mid album. Average at best. Didnt hit any highs, didnt hit any lows. A low 3. # Top Tunes: Charlie big potato / Secretely # Would I listen to it again? No
I remember getting a cassingle of Skunk Anansie when I was younger. I don’t get it. Listening now I kinda’ do, and now I can have the added bonus of saying I have indulged into ‘clit rock’ (Spotify’s term, not mine). At a time when women were not huge in the rock/metal scene I appreciate what Skin was attempting. Key songs were Secretly and Charlie Big Potato. I do confess that if the album is called Post Orgasmic Chill and represent such edge musically I question what kind of weird S&M sex they were having….
Random thoughts: * First track has a weird techno intro and then moves into a heavier rock. * Is this Evanescence? * Never heard of this band. Skunk Anise? :) * "Secretly" is prototypically late 90s/early 2000s alternative track. * Ok, this is more late 90s alternative rock, might even have tints of Jeff Buckley, at least the last track "I'm Not Afraid" does. * I'm not sure this warrants 1001 consideration but it is a good album and I bet this was someone's favorite back in 1999.
Odd album. It was trying to d to much but thats what people like.
Ok but not my thing
Nothing really captiivated me. Was better than i was expecting though
Like many albums that were a little heavier, took me a few songs to get into but once I locked in it wasn't bad at all. However, I was listening on pretty bad audio quality, and my mother wasn't really a fan of Skins vocals, so I didn't get to have a good listen - the result - a qualified 3.
I was initially enjoying this but was a bit bored roads the end. Better than anticipated. Admittedly I’d only ever heard some singles before. It’s a solid 3 but not a 4.
Can't say I enjoyed much of this - no more screaming vocals, please. Other than that, just okay.
A huge part of this band's appeal rests on the shoulders of the frontwoman Skin who is PHENOMENAL. Charlie Big Potato sets the stage but On My Hotel TV really kicks the ante up, with provocative yet pensive lyrics about the power the media has on creating public perception around race, gender, sexuality, etc. We Don't Need Who You Think You Are is heavy and Skin's vocal are fantastic in this one. Tracy's Flaw serves as an anthem for toxic relationships. Skank Heads is rather forgettable. Lately provides some softness in the album's runtime. Secretly manages to be operatic but alternative and might be the best song on this album. The rest of the songs are all good but this genre isn't for me. The first half goes hard though. Give this album a listen if you're into conscious alternative music.
Different but not bad
This reminded me of Alice In Chains except more political. Not bad but don’t need to hear it again.
Never heard of this group before! Very 90s/00s alternative
Another day, another British rock band I hadn't heard of before. Skunk Anansie hail from London, and are largely categorized as a mixture of hard rock and alternative metal, with influences from dub and reggae, and a powerhouse vocalist in Skin. I was genuinely curious how this group and their record, Post Orgasmic Chill, hold up against the large swathe of heavier alternative bands that have found success. There was some initial excitement from the opening run of "Charlie Big Potato" through "We Don't Need Who You Think You Are", and yet the kinetic energy of the band felt weirdly restrained upon closer examination. The more I listened to this album, the more I was reminded of a similar group that would emerge decades later here in the States - Halestorm. After all, both groups combine hard rock with alternative metal, with powerhouse female vocalists who are their respective bands' largest appeal. Sure, Skin has a more distinctly black British dialect, but the parallels between her and Lzzy Hale are there. Unfortunately, these parallels also extend to my issues with this album. The songwriting doesn't quite offer enough nuance or detail to give these songs that extra weight or flavor. The subject matter tends to oscillate between relationship issues and self-empowerment, with little else to offer aside from specific Britishisms, such as on "Charlie Big Potato" and "The Skank Heads". Even more indicting is the polished production from Andy Wallace. He may be competent enough to push Skin in front of the mix as necessary, but his production style doesn't elicit that distinct crunch or heaviness the band is craving for. The closest this album gets to explosive delivery is on "The Skank Heads", and even then, this sound could have been pushed farther, especially given how ballad-heavy tracks are towards the middle. It hurts me to say, but I'm admittedly a bit disappointed. I imagine that, like with Halestorm, Skunk Anansie works better as a live act, and I would probably enjoy them a lot more in that unrestrained environment than in the studio. Because, as it is, Post Orgasmic Chill is a serviceable hard rock record tailor-made for the radio, but it could have been more than that.
Very refreshing album, I hadn't heard anything like this in the list yet. It's a really strange but effective combination of Metal, Electronic and Pop. The lyrics are really heavy for an artist that got played on mainstream pop stations. I think this would've benefitted from 1 or 2 of their big hits being on it though. It's close to a 4 but there aren't any real memorable songs off this for me.
Very interesting album: great vocalist, great lyrics, I enjoyed listening. It does drag a bit though, could've been a nice 40 minute adrenaline rush.
the vocalist has a very nice voice. at times it verges on tina turner, particularly on the slower stuff. I liked the slower stuff on here better than the harder stuff, but ultimately found this pretty middling.
Didn't like the start of it,, but it did grow on me. favroute track was "You'll Follow Me Down".
This is a talented and tight band, and I agree with the other review that this album suffers from being over-produced.
Seemed to get better as the album went along. It’s fine, not great.
Interesting, but not noteworthy. 3 *
It’s OK
It's alright
Powerful voice, love it. Interesting band, but not my cup of tea.
Skunk Anansie are an often overlooked band in the British 90's rock canon. This is a nice Alt Rock record, very airy and accessible, although I don't know why it landed on this list, it doesn't do anything all that different. Skin's vocals are quite refreshing for the genre though and she released a couple of very good solo albums in the 00's, that was when first heard of her and this band. Key tracks: Charlie Big Potato Tracy's Flaw Lately You'll Follow Me Down
Some good moments, but they kind of mixed the least appealing parts of alternative rock (the whiny bits) with some very run-of-the-mill metal riffing that is mostly forgettable. 2.5/5.0: Mixed
Never heard this before. My knowledge of Skunk Anansie was "Weak" from their first album and a couple of tracks from Stoosh, their second. Post Orgasmic Chill is a bit harder, a punky, funky, metal, pop mix which is very listenable. Lead singer Skin is the band's biggest asset, her lyrics railing and raging against sexism, misogyny, racism, an underlying anger in her voice even when she sings at her most melodic, although her default is a growling and biting delivery. Musically a lot of the album is RATM/Manic Street Preachers-lite. Some of the songs stand out, particularly in the first half - "Charlie Big Potato", the opener, starts with a drum and bass riff which morphs into the sort of poppy prog-metal sound that Muse would adopt several years later; "On My Hotel TV" is scathing and bitter; "The Skank Heads" - although things are a little mellower in the second half of the record. The production takes a little of the hard edge off and it could have benefitted from a bit more rawness.
A cool album, but a little abstract and aggressive to be brought on as just a normal record.
hey this was pretty cool... kinda doin every genre haha
Brand new band for me, so these thoughts might not represent the group as a whole. Album is definitely front-loaded with the stronger tracks in my opinion. I do appreciate that 90s crunch of the guitar and the absolute soul put into some of the lyrical delivery. They are all good tracks at the end of the day, but admittedly towards the end it starts to get a bit muddled for me where I find myself questioning when exactly in my life I'd want to throw them on. I also am not a huge fan of when albums have interludes before/after songs on the same track. Not that I wish to impose my will upon an artist's vision, but to me they hardly ever go anywhere meaningful so I just find myself reaching for the skip button. That first half though? Pretty solid. Favorites: Charlie Big Potato, On My Hotel TV, The Skank Heads Flops: N/A
Interesting
No longer in the 1001 - 90s hard rock alternative vibe, primarily made unique by Skin's vocals, which are outstanding. The major problem is too many of the songs are generic sounding - the first three or four tracks were pretty unique and made me think I was going to rate this album highly, but then the rest of the album (except And This is Nothing That I Thought I Had) is all basic/generic alt rock. I'd call the album a 3.5 but I'm rounding down because it was less interesting on a close listen than in the background, and that's never a good sign. Favorite tracks: Charlie Big Potato, We Don't Need Who You Are, And This is Nothing That I Thought I Had.
Not my favorite. I think "We Don't Need Who You Are" far exceeds the quality of the other tracks on the album.
Liked but not loved
This band describes themselves as clit rock and that rules. Very epic, evanescence predating-overly symphonic metal opener. Hotel tv switched it up to better results for me. Great riffs. Skin is a really good vocalist. We don’t need who you think you are is not great. Still a great vocalist, just back in the what pre nu metal nonsense is this. This run of “what?” continues for the next two tracks, but if you close your eyes and really focus it sounds like P!nk is singing on Tracy’s flaw. Secretly is not a good song, but it’s the first in a while that I might listen to again. Good things feels like evanescence again. Cheap honesty is great until about halfway through where it loses me and she starts to sound like Michael Jackson. You’ll follow me down is a fine ballad. And this is nothing is easily the best song on here by a mile, it really feels like the realization of everything they’re trying to do on this album and it rocks. Then they end this thing on a terrible soft rock radio anthem where buddy hits the worst country music awards guitar solo of the year. I think this a good band with good ideas but they just keep missing the mark on everything. Needle dropping through their older discography they can definitely do it right, and the penultimate track on here proves it too. This album is just so average. I can’t imagine ever revisiting it.
Enjoyed this album a lot more than I thought that I would (had very low hopes). Post Orgasmic Chill is a hilarious album title. I enjoyed the heavier stuff on this album than the more melodic songs. Probably won't listen to again, but definitely would listen to this over Linkin Park. On My Hotel TV and Cheap Honesty are good songs. 3
If this could find a unified direction, this would be a great album rather than some really good songs wrapped in some of the lamest ballads. Surprise enjoyment from this one, best played loud. Strong 3/5
Not my style.
This was all over the place. Not a cohesive album, they couldn’t even decide on a sound. I’m not against changing your sound but you have to establish a sound to begin with. A talented group but I found the album to be disjointed and a bit overproduced.
She be sounding like Michael Jackson sometimes fr
This was not my thing. It’s very 90s sounding and 90s production and tropes are things I have a somewhat lower tolerance for, I don’t dislike 90s rock but I don’t love most of it and many of the more popular groups of the decade I dislike. This album was on the better end but it falls into one particular trap of 90s and to a lesser extent 80s music where they feel the need to make every song 4-5 minutes when they would’ve been good at 2. Then they stick 12 songs on the album so it’s a 60 minute album when I’ve signed up for 40-45 minute albums usually. It’s ok I guess there wasn’t anything I outwardly disliked here just broadly found much of it fairly uninteresting.
A lot of the earlier album songs weren't great, instrumentals were too repetitive and vocals were not working for me. We Don't Need Who You Think You Are was the first one that really all worked together, dynamic instrumentals, varied vocals. Tracy's Flaw was a nice change of pace, the vocals were solid and the instrumental range was nice. The vibes with Lately were good, nice beat. Secretly also solid. Basically, not a complete knock out, but good enough that I might listen to their other stuff now.
Pretty good and she has a very immpressive voice at times however this album is about 30 minutes too long not overly catchy but similar to Garbage by Garbage in my mind
2.5 rounded up.
This one had a *really* promising start! But alas, it kinda lost steam after that for me. I remember liking the other Skunk Anansie album I've heard, and probably I could get really into them if I listened a bit more? Time will tell, I suppose...
5/10, not bad, some good songs, not as heavy as I thought it would be which is a good thing
Never heard of them before and really enjoyed.
I didn’t love this album but it’s exactly what I wanted from this list - an album full of songs that I’ve never heard from a band I’ve never even heard of.
tutto giusto, niente speciale
very good. 3.5
Not everything is for everyone, and this isn't for me. It's not bad though.
2.75
Don't really have much to say about this. Liked some of it. Some of it I liked less.
Quite an odd mix of genres but well played and rather enjoyable.
i can see the appeal of this sort of stuff, but ultimately wasn't a huge fan of the vocalist's tone. musically i appreciate it, and lyrically i appreciate the earnestness and aggressive passion of the lyrics and uniqueness of the song structures
It’s alright, I liked some of it
Seemed pretty good but didn't _really_ grab me. Definitely very late-'90s.
Talented, but songwriting is just okay
Very intense, sometimes a bit uncomfortable to listen to, but I guess that's the goal.
We Don’t Need Who You Think You Are.
90’s Brit Alt Indie. Clean and tight. Not shabby. Too produced for me.
I used to own Stoosh on tape. A forgotten band. Not listened to these guys for years..... It's not dissimilar to QOTSA in some of the guitars. Some rocking stuff on here. Half the ballads are good, especially Lately, half are not as good . If they'd gone all out rock with Lately in the middle I reckon this'd be remembered more fondly.
Альтернативный металл не люблю всё одно.
This was good overall. It’s got a wide range of styles and influences, from funk, to rock and metal, to even some techno. I didn’t know what to expect but I was very surprised by what I found.
Never heard of the band before so had high hopes going in. Didn’t grab me. Was expecting something heavier and grittier. Lead singer has a clean vocal and overall this is quite polished. 2.5/5. Raising to a 3.
The album was okay, not my style and I will not return to it. Still an okay listening experience. 3/5
3.0 - Ok
Enjoyable listen. Never heard of them before and I enjoyed this album.
Good
Very interesting, kind of weird. However, I did enjoy I think 1 or 2 of the songs
Actually liked this album. Never heard of this band before. Very interesting vocals and song writing with a good rock band behind them
Sick af unique kinda nu metaly
Not my style.
I thought I was going to enjoy this quite a bit, but some of tracks in the second half really lost me and kinda put me off revisiting the start. Still, it was cool to give it a try.
3.5 very good
Good music.
This album is a surprise, in a good way! I'm going 3/5 because I wouldn't say there are any bangers, but I enjoyed it.
I came away unsure how to feel about this album. I felt like the album never really gave an idea of what the personality or identity of the band was supposed to be. A lot of the same sound throughout that never really clicked with me. It wasn’t bad, just in the end it's kind of forgettable.
This delivers some standout moments — but not every punch lands. “Charlie Big Potato” and “Tracy’s Flaw” are moody highlights, and “You’ll Follow Me Down” charmed me with unexpected sweetness. Skin brings power and attitude; angry like Alannis, soulful like Brittany... stormy, and sometimes stirring — but not a full-body chill.
I didn't know anything about the band going in. Starts off not great, noisy and annoying, n-words, and other expletives, then the tone calms down into some decent catchy tunes. Average it out to a 3 I suppose.
not the most substantial of music, some cool parts but maybe a slow start
We Don’t Need Who You Think You Are // Lately // Cheap Honesty //
I had never heard of this band before this, which was honestly surprising when I saw how popular they are, maybe they just never really escaped the UK. Post Orgasmic Chill is largely an alt metal/alt rock album, and this is kind of a genre of music that's very hit or miss to me, and that I think has a capacity to age really awkwardly. That being said, this album certainly has some flaws to me, but there's a lot it does that is super unique and interesting too. Firstly, a lot of the late '90s alt metal staples are here, quiet/loud verse chorus structure, crunchy riffs, and some more melodic ballad tracks, but Skunk Anansie also brings some distinct UK flair, there are songs here where they seemingly incorporate UK techno and trip hop influences and they actually meld really well into this sound when they show up. I kind of wish these influences pop up more because of how well they work, but I'll take what's here. I'm also a fan of the performances here, everyone sounds great, but the real stand-out star in this band is their vocalist, Skin. She is an incredibly talented singer and a really compelling figure, and has a lot of really interesting lyrics across this album about her intersectional experiences as a Black, Queer woman in living the UK. Her presence on songs is unique and genuinely exciting, and she keeps me invested during moments where this album almost loses me. Speaking of which, I did say I think this album has some flaws: Firstly, the production on this is *very* clean, and while it gives a lot of these songs a kind of arena rock feel, I think the heavier songs on here could have benefitted from a little bit of a dirtier sound, even though these songs themselves are good. Second, this album has quite a few more melodic, ballad-y tracks that I alluded to earlier, and on their own, they're all at least decent to great, if occasionally carried by Skin. A bigger problem is that a lot of them are bunched up near the end of the tracklist, and when several are put next to each other in a row they can kind of run into each other. There are a good few I kind of can't keep separate in my head, and I honestly think that one (*maybe* two) of the weaker ones could be cut. That being said, it certainly doesn't ruin the album, and I can see the justification for putting this on a list like this. I am glad I heard it, and there are some tracks I can see myself going back to.
It's interesting. They really swing for the fences and parts are all over the place because of it. Some songs her vocals get wiped out in the quiet parts and blown out in others. Sucks because she seems to have great voice. Musicaly it's clean although again on a pendulum for how it swings. It does make me want to listen to more of their stuff. I'm not sure if this is their first album. Solid listen but doesn't really hit at first listen. This is the kind of album that gets you curious though.
3/5
I never heard much of Skunk Anansie beyond Hedonism, but Skin's voice is always recognizable. This album is much more on the harder, heavier side. It's not bad, although her voice not always fits the music.
3 - Cool, but a bit to edgy for me
Hmm. Weird one, never heard of this band, hard to understand why this was record was chosen. Didn't hate it, but didn't really grab me much either. Fave Track: Lately 2.8/5
I knew a bloke back in the day who was a huge fan of this band. I thought they were just ok, but didn't really get into them that much. Listening to them now I can see / hear how they have influenced so many other bands, including some that I love and listen to regularly. It's kinda got me reassessing my judgement of them from back then. I'm about to go back and listen to a couple more of their albums.
Wide range of style, like it but don’t love it also weird name
Hard to pin down, but the vocals on the harder stuff didn’t work for me.
Yet another one where I think they're good at what they do, but I just don't love what they're doing.
Einersiits sehr nice mal wider chli es ‘neuziitigers’ Album z ha (I mean, fast 2000er Jahr), andersiits tönts denn au wider chli so frei, experimental und chaotisch wie Albe us dere Ziit tönet. Mix us “ah moll findi doch no easy zum lose” zu “okay, biz zu hardcore is 2000er Rock abdriftet” zu “isch das jetzt doch eher e kuschlerock-soul band?” Kinky Album name though, I like Da rauchi grad 3 Zigis, würdi aber eig nur 2.5 möge
There were parts of this album I really enjoyed. It started off feeling a bit like a crappier version of NIN, found itself, but then it seemed to linger on a bit too long. My 2 biggest complaints from this album: her vocals are too buried in the mix, and they don't know how to end a song. Tracy's Flaw will definitely end up a song I regularly return to. I felt they were a better hard rock band then they are a ballad band.
I had no idea what to expect from this. Never heard of this group before and the first song didn't really set me on the right track for the rest of the album. But I was pleasantly surprised as I progressed through, and found that there's some solid songs in here.
Not really my thing. Didn’t feel very coherent.
Cool
So hard to rate this i’m gonna not even try
this wasn't my favorite but it was a fascinating glimpse into how we ended up with genre- bending artists in the decade after, like Evanescence...a good example of what this project does well in terms of linking histories of music together for those who weren't there themselves!
hmmm
It’s good, but I don’t like it.
Why is this hard rock singer saying the n-word? Anyway, surprisingly good album.
Not bad. Very late 90s alt but the vocals help it stand out. Some great moments and some filler
Decent listen.
From the first two songs I was expecting a really good alt rock grunge album but that only ended up being half the story, other half was basically generic radio friendly power ballads which I wasn’t a fan of and it was disappointing because if it was full alt rock it would have been really good album based on how good those songs were like Charlie big potato, the skank heads and the second last song. Tracey’s flaw sounds like a generic power ballad but top notch vocals, Lately is such a radio ahh song, Secretly felt like it was teasing a break out into grungy distorted guitars which never came other than the guitar solo which was too short anyway. The vocals were 10/10 though throughout but that’s not enough to bring it higher than a 6/10 for me, good but disappointing album for what I was expecting. Don’t know what those two random moments of jungle music drums were as well, random.
Must admit, I didn't expect to see Skunk Anansie anywhere near this list. Impressively ferocious and dynamic vocals from Skin. In a parallel universe, she'd probably be turning out at the royal opera or something. Not really my jam but it's better than I maybe imagined. Well-produced.
It gives me Evanescence vibes. The album starts out strong, and putters to the finish line. Favorite Track: "Charlie Big Potato".
cool as ice
Rockig, gut hörbar.
Here's one that I'm sure is polarizing. It's polarizing in my own head. I'm kind-of weirded out by this one, but on the other hand, it's pretty cool sounding. It can be aggressive and groovy at the same time. Neat album. I don't think I'd be looking to revisit, but I'm not disappointed at it by any means.
I followed the requirements set forth by the title but I don't think it made any difference. A mixed bag both musically and production-wise where punchier mixes could elevate certain sections but it could also all get lost in the muddiness. I'm usually not a stickler for vocal types but I don't take to Skin (OBE)'s style very much, even though she is clearly a very talented singer. The heavier songs left me thinking I would have loved this as a teen and then lamented my bygone youth while I sat there stony faced and partially grey-haired listening to all the energy that Skunk Anansie had to spare. There is such a bizarre air of late 90s britpop prevalent that it made me nostalgic but in a bad way. The songs really start to melt into each other, especially the slower ones that begin to resemble Smooth fm ballads. This could have been much shorter and nothing would have been lost.
I wasn’t blown away by this, but that could be because I listened to this after a series of all timers with a similar energy. That said, I was pleasantly surprised with how this progressed given I let out an audible groan midway through the album after checking the full runtime - maybe I found post orgasmic chill after all?
I'd be willing to give this a second listen, but nothing really stuck with me after one. Technically impressive, and the lead singer has a great voice, but something about the mix made me feel like I was in a small room and I wanted the sound to feel more expansive. It's like there's a lot of raw energy that's been sterilized somehow. I think a 2 would be harsh, so it's a light 3 for me.
Ok rocky
This was a grower!!!! wasn't into it right away but really started vibing with it about halfway through! Pleasant surprise! would do 3.5 if we could do half stars but alas
LOL, their biggest song on this album was the first one I skipped part way through. I guess pop/nu-metal (or whatever you classify this as) isn't quite my jam but it wasn't horrible. 2.5 rounding up
6.5/10
Didn't really pay much attention to Skunk Anansie after their debut album and "Weak". Maybe I bought the debut on CD? Anyway this was fine, but probably not something I'll come back to.
This quite good! I had only heard Lately before, which is an amazing song. I loved the two earlier records, and listened to them a lot back in the day, but for some reason I never got to listen to this, which is a real shame.
Bald black woman. Can't miss her.
Solid bald black woman rock 3.5
These guys were never big in the States but I've been at least aware of them for quite awhile now. Even when everything else I listened to sounded pretty much the same, I just never found myself enjoying their music. Skin has a killer voice and some of the songs here really sound like stuff I continue to listen to but there's a feeling of disconnect between the vocals and the backing music. I don't know if that's a mixing issue, my ears, maybe it's the vocals seemingly drifting around the music like she's singing to a different record? I appreciate that they're a good band, but I just can't listen to them. Fav tracks: The Skank Head, Charlie Big Potato
Some of this was alright nut all in all, not my thing.
2.5
I can see coming back to this when I'm in the angsty mood. Points for being labeled as "clit rock".
Whoa, this was wild! Hard to believe they never were super famous. Ultimately it was a little heavy for me as I got into the bonus tracks, so I had to turn it off. But genuinely enjoyed listening.
Sounds a bit heavier than the last album. Some nice touches
Sure, this was ok.
Den lå 3-4, jeg synes de lyder godt og sangeren er virkelig god, men produktionen er lidt for ren og pæn til at det går helt igennem. Det første nummer lød virkelig meget som Evanescence
Giving Tool mixed with ? (John called it - silverchair) 3.5
These guys are excellent musicians, but they can’t seem to write songs that go anywhere. Sadly forgettable.
Not what I expected and not really my thing, but I’d listen again. I like the singer’s Servalan vibe.
I think Evanescence loved this band
Decent. The Skank Heads is a banger.
Skunk is like Bjork but with far far far better vocals. The band is like peak 90’s WWE theme song music and that’s not a bad thing, as I seem to say more on this app than I do in real life…. I can’t put this band in a specific genre but I guess you could say the are more alternative than anything else. I found myself thinking that Skunk sort of wasted her talents on this brand of music instead of cutting Celine Dion radio hits. There’s something intriguing about the album and it’s not bad, it just tries too hard to be great and it’s not working
• 3/5 • first listen; glad I was introduced to them • not my favorite genre, but really well executed • love Skin’s vocals; seems like a big influence on Evanescence a few years later
Fantastic voice, but a lot of the tracks are very of their time
Not really sure what to think here. It's not bad per se. Rounding a 2.5 up to 3 here...
3/5
It sounds good and not like a whole lot else coming out at the time. But none of it stuck with me. If someone put this on, I wouldn't complain but it won't be me putting it on.
Never heard of this band, very interesting opening track, but then the album kind of falls off
Interesting until it got less Metal and more Hard Rock Ballads. I didn’t know British Nu Metal was a thing
vocals are insane on this record. i dog the music too. it blends a lot of different genres with a heavy rock twist. love the slower tracks on here too.
When you have some pre-millienium tension, you might as well deserve some post orgasmic chill. Skunk Anansie get a little more rougher around the edges with this album, in the process earning their place amongst the changing landscape that was British rock in the late 90s/early 00s. Favorites: Charlie Big Potato, On My Hotel T.V., We Don't Need Who You Think You Are, The Skank Heads, Secretly, Cheap Honesty.
Interesting.
This was totally new to me. Never even heard of it. Not bad. 3
Alternativo/metal. Vocal feminino, canta muito. Interessante
Great voice, wouldn’t be upset if I heard it again, but also wouldn’t miss it if I didn’t
Never even heard of this but I liked it quite a bit. The only problem is it’s super front loaded. The vocals are really unique.
Starts off strong and then coasts a bit
the singer's voice reminds me of thom yorke's falsettos. but anyway, why is the first track named "Charlie Big Potato"? it's absurd. 3/5
Clit rock - screaming vitriol over jerky rock. Actually, it's not bad. The song structure is always very dynamic, veering between soft crooning and piercing screams. There's nothing on here to rival 'Hedonism', but it's at least as good as most of the stuff on this list.
The first song was really interesting. Like a mix of tool, SoaD, and Evanescence. If the rest of the album would have followed similar to the first song this would easily have been a 8/9 but it couldn’t make up its mind on what the sound was supposed to be. The latter half slowed down a lot and ended up sounding like a different band. Most of the album really felt like a way for the lead singer to show their vocal prowess and the rest of the band kind of just played random stuff trying to keep up. 6/10
Could've been better.
Interesting collection of tunes with a unique heavy sound. Worthy of a repeat listen.
Hey. I'm all for wacky bullshit but this was just a liiiiiiittle too much too long.
Haven't heard of them before, really fun rock/metal numbers.. Favorite track: Charlie big potato other picks: we don't need who you think you are, secretly, cheap honesty
Metal and hard rock from the late 90s and early 00s all sounded much the same to me. As a result, I don’t know much from that era because I just didn’t care to listen to it. Being loud and heavy the same way everyone else was just made it boring. This album is more of same, only with a female singer. That added little for me. It wasn’t awful, but it pretty much just became background music. And I’m sure that’s not what they were aiming for.
Not sure what to think. I'll leave it at that for now.
Post Orgasmic Chill is the third album from British alt/metal band Skunk Anansie. The band makes 90s alt rock, with timing and volume transitions and heavy, distorted guitars. The unusual element of their sound is their female vocalist, whose name is Skin. The result sounds like Soundgarden recruited Pat Benetar for an album. This is a collection of songs that Skin described as "clit-rock," her term for the feminist rage she expresses as a British woman. These are good, but not particularly memorable songs, because the band can unfortunately be described as "another 90s alt-rock band."
Yoooo good choice good choice I love Going Under too
It's ok but there's something so insincere and calculated about the production and delivery that it all falls emotionally flat. I can't see it having much longevity. They were the first band I saw live, around 1996, and I feel they're much better live.
Interesting all the way through, not really my thing but can’t say a lot bad or good.
Some real horrors & a couple of tracks that were brilliant!
Never heard of them! Fun surprise.
Pleasant surprise, the whole "brit-rock" movement is sooo underrated.
Cool, Interesting, well produced, sounds older than 99
Opening track is actually pretty cool. pretty heavy at times. Quite good female lead vocals. This is a strange album. The first track is pretty straightforward, clean verses, heavy choruses. The second track is bizarre, part rap, part alt-rock, part metal, part electronica. The third track is back to pretty straight forward hard rock. Apple music says Garbage is a similar artist to Skunk Anansie. I get a bit of Paramore. I'd give this one 3.5 stars. Not sure I can actually round it up to 4 for the limited whole-star grading on the site, but it was a pleasant surprise.
Niet slecht. Ben niet de grootste Skunk Anansie fan, maar 't is nog wel oké. 2.8
Great title for an album. Original sound but not for this guy. Another album/band never heard before. Oh well.
I really liked this, it's so different from everything else on this else. Very, very 90s production - it would be difficult to find something sounding more 1999 than this. Reminded me of Muse at times, but kinda better? Maybe because of the strong female vocals. Too bad that the album is uneven and tends to go too mainstream at times, it could have been a strong 4. As it is, I'm giving it a 3.5/5 - I like this and will potentially come back to it, but it's not an immediate favorite.
Pleasantly surprised. Singer Skin has a nice powerful voice. I usually don't like to see 'alternative rock', 'punk rock' in album's description. However, I found this to be a reasonably good sounding album.
Pretty cool - I liked the vocalist. I don’t think I gave this the attention it deserves; I’d probably rate it higher on another listen. I’m curious to hear their other albums.
3.5, really good album at the start but fell off in the 2nd half.
3.5, strong start but fell flat on the second half, felt like heavy metal Bjork for a minute there
