Slow and trancey mix of electronica and hip hop. I found most of the songs to be too sparse and downbeat. 19-2000 is fantastic though, and Clint Eastwood is ok. But they were the singles I've heard a million times so maybe it's just familiarity.

Honestly don't have too much to say about this one. It's a fine album, but nothing special, and wouldn't find myself listening to any of the songs again.

I was quite disappointed by this. The singles didn't hold up very well, and the non-singles were a bit annoying or even dour at times. It's also a classic CD-era album that is overstuffed just to max out the full length of the CD. This could have used a lot of editing.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but this is definitely side project territory and doesn't come close to the heights of Blur.

I am a fan of Gorillaz. But this is not really a Gorillaz album. It's album where a man (Damon) is trying to discover the sound of a new band that happens to be called Gorillaz. It's an album where a man is transitioning his sound from one band to another, from Blur to something new. So it's not quite a Gorillaz album and it's not quite a Blur album. It's a messy hybrid. And to be honest, it's kind of mid. It's interesting, but it's not that enjoyable. If you know blur and you know Gorillaz, it's very interesting hearing Damon shift between the sounds in real time. It's enjoyable with a lot of context. But as a stand alone album, it's meh. It kind of reminds me of the Blur album we already reviewed, except worse. On that album the band was transitioning from their Brit Pop sound to a mash up of 90s alternative sounds. It was also messy, but it worked. This album doesn't really work for me. There are some fun Blur-y tracks like Punk and 5/4. There are a bunch of tracks that are messy hybrids of both sounds that are pretty forgettable... and there are too many of them (there are too many songs on this album in general). But the album does have a crown jewel, Clint Eastwood. It's the only song that feels truly like a Gorillaz song. What a track. It still holds up. It feels like the first ever Gorillaz song. Perhaps writing it was the moment where Damon finally saw the sound of this new project come into focus. We'll never know. But that's how it feels as a listener. Side note: How did listeners at the time not immediately know it was the guy from Blur in Gorillaz? I know at the time it was a mystery... but listening now, it feels so fucking obvious. Big parts of this album feel very similar to blur... and his voice isn't modified like it is on later Gorillaz albums. I guess it was a simpler, less online time when this thing came out. Lucky bastards.

There is a stark contrast between the songs with Del and those without. With Del I would give this album a 4 or a fringe 5. Without him it's more like a 2. They have really interesting instrumentals but they really just cannot be trusted to do their own vocals on this album without this sounding like whiny shoegaze bullshit.

Banal

Too laid back for me, but there's a couple of bangers. Still, a full album of this is not what I need, even when it is very well-produced.

I really like blur and much of the gorilaz other music but this album didn't do it for me. Besides Clint Eastwood there really aren't many memorable tracks. I respect the diversity and attempts but too many songs went on longer than they should've and too many misses for me

Damon Albarn with the Gorillaz is better than Damon Albarn with Blur. He has four albums on this list, that's insane. This is a long album. And four songs in it's starting to feel long. Clint Eastwood was the hit and their big break. I remember liking it when it came out but it felt like it was overplayed very quickly. Man Research (Clapper) was cool for about three minutes. Unfortunately it went on for four and a half minutes. Every song seems very internally repetitive. The vocal affectation Albarn is putting on is getting really annoying as the album progresses. Double Bass without the singing is probably the best track on the album. The poorly played flute is not a positive addition to Rock the House. Del The Funky Homosapien is so tied to the Gorillaz that I think of his songs with them first. 19-2000 was the other big hit with the girl from Cibo Matto singing about cool shoeshines. It's still the best song on the album. Followed by a song with the Buena Vista Social Club guy that is easily the worst song on the album. Starshine has Albarn's weird voice on full display and then Slow Country is the same four words over and over again....needless to say the album is continuing to go downhill. And then M1 A1 is some clip of a guy yelling, "Is anyone there?" for almost two minutes. This album is too long. Bong noises, found sound recording of an Asian woman talking about playing an instrument, it all adds up to a terrible song. And ending with a remix of the album's first single. Jamaican guy talking, sped up, stripped down music, dance hall rapping...I don't love the original but this is worse.

Some good moments, but none of the songs really spoke to me.

This just was really not quite it for me. Just felt mostly redundant and not very exciting as well as definitely too long. It does have great diversity of tracks however and a large variety of styles to keep things interesting. I still found it pretty boring though so I don’t know. Just not my thing I guess.

The album SpongeBob listens to when he goes on walks and does his silly little dance. Honestly though, feels more like a proof of concept for Gorillaz, just kinda an ok samplefest.

Honestly, I’m amazed this mediocre album got so popular. It’s like they threw a bunch of random shit together and hoped no one would notice.. and apparently, no one did.

Eastwood is pretty much the only track I like. Demon Days is a better record.

Ah, yes. The debut drop from the digital-- uhh, what's another alliterative D word? Drab band? I never listened to this album when it came out (but I've heard Clint Eastwood on the radio enough to know every word). Overall it feels more like a concept demo than a finished album. Aside from Eastwood and 5/4, the rest of the songs are just drifting ideas with interesting soundscapes but aren't memorable enough for me to want to listen to again.

While I've always loved Jamie Hewlett's artwork, I never quite got into Tank Girl - it seems to do that thing that British comics always do where they make a huge deal of trying really hard to distance themselves from other comics... this comic is way too cool to be like all those other lame comics, look how subversive and different we are! And, in a way, that kind of sums up Gorillaz too - it's all a bit tongue-in-cheek and self-indulgent, at times you almost feel they are mocking the styles they are aping (hah - APING) rather than respecting them, a kind of snobbish "making *insert musical genre* is easy, look - we did it with a load of cartoon characters in our lunch hour" vibe. It's hard to judge Gorillaz without bringing all that baggage to the table, which perhaps is a little unfortunate. Their strengths are also their greatest weakness - I can't help thinking the very nature of Gorillaz sets the music up as something superficial; something not to be taken too seriously. I wasn't massively bowled over by it at the time - it's certainly an ambitious project in many respects, catchy and interesting in patches, but rarely both at the same time. I'd say I've definitely warmed to this album over the years to a degree, but it still has a lightweight, experimental feel to it, which is, perhaps, intentional, but, either way, it is lacking some real substance.

Pretty standard electronic sounds, synths and loops... unnecessarily quirky. Its like coworker music for 9/11 millennials. Correction* its a nursery rhyme for millenials

I was very excited for this album. But I found it painfully boring. The hits are honestly great, but there is a reason they were the singles. The rest of the album is very repetitive. Every time I thought they were going in an interesting direction with the song, they'd just basically stop and go back to the same old repetitive part. Really disappointing. I can't ever see myself voluntarily listening to this entire album again.

This was an extremely long listen…. The album is very dated and perhaps for its time, it was groundbreaking but now it’s just dated. The idea of a cartoon band was novel and the idea that Blur Fromtman Damon Albert had a creative outlet to let Loose is great but the album gets boring after a while. Best song is probably M1 A1 which sounds like a variation of Pink Floyd.

This is not top 1,000. Sounds like an elementary group singing when there was singing.

This is an awful spin off from a band. Go back to Blur (does happen).

There is something a little bit awkward about this music. I know a lot of people LOVE the Gorillaz, but it comes off as cringe to be and doesn't do anything wild to my music radar. I would rather listen to good hip hop OR good rock, not both in a mush. 3/10

I Got Sunshine In A Bag 1001 Albums Generator 30 (05/14/2025) Gorillaz is the debut album by virtual band/art project of Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett of the same name. Albarn and Hewlett met during the former's days with Blur and the idea of Gorillaz as a band made of four fictional members came to them as a commentary on what they felt like were "manufactured bands" pushed by MTV during the boy band craze of the 90's. Although the band was created in the late 90's, their first album did not release until 2001. A quite eclectic album (similar to what Blur did on their self-titled), Gorillaz features influences from trip hop, hip hop, alt rock, and psychedelia. Do these influences come together in a cohesive way throughout this relatively lengthy album? Well, I need to be honest. I feel like I'm missing something with this one. It seems to be well loved but to me it feels as though many of these songs are completely forgettable. Of course, in such a long album, there are bound to be some great moments. The two biggest hits, Clint Eastwood and 19-2000, are both popular for a reason, especially Clint Eastwood. Del The Funky Homosapien from legendary abstract hip hop group Deltron 3030 does the verses here and they are fantastic. This song also features its iconic chorus and almost cabaret-like piano beat, which extends out instrumentally for the last minute or so. It is really great. I thought 19-2000 was a little annoying the first time I heard it with its silly little synthline, but it's grown on me. Unfortunately, these are pretty much the two best songs here. Other light highlights include the Afro-Cuban jazz inspired Latin Simone (which got me really in the mood to listen to Dizzy Gillespie's Afro-Cuban Jazz Moods (which should totally be on the list btw, it's a perfect album)). Anyway, Latin Simone features Spanish lyrics and a cool droning background instrumental with jazz stuff happening on top of it. Sound Check (Gravity) has a pretty heavy, psychedelic trip hop beat that has some interesting production, although at times it feels like it's all form and no substance. This may honestly be an accurate criticism of the album as a whole. Besides the few songs that I've brought up, a lot of these songs, even with their eclectic styles and production, go in one ear and out the other, or worse. Man Research (Clapper) is really annoying with its consistent whining vocals and Punk could be seen as an interesting change of pace, but to me, it feels extremely out of place. Songs like Double Bass, Starshine, and Slow Country, while all quite different from one another, do not have any aspects that stuck with me on any level deeper than the occassional "oh that was an interesting sound". I never really "got" Gorillaz. Still don't. Most of the songs just sound like throwaway demos to me, aside from a couple catchy singles. Also way too damn long.

I was really looking forward to this one. Ended up quite disappointed. Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite rap songs of all time. Great beat, great rap, love it. The rest of the album really fell flat. Most of the songs were either boring with the same thing repeated over and over, or just hard to understand what they were saying. Rock The House had some good rap too, and Latin Simone had great music. The rest of the tracks were all duds. I want to rate this album higher just because of Clint Eastwood, but the rest of it was a slog. Best song: Clint Eastwood

Pretty decent, a couple of bops but more semi boring songs. I liked the experimental bits but it seemed like too much of the album was made up of this and what felt like interludes. Probably would not listen to the whole album again, just the few bops. 2 stars

Damn, I was so skeptical of M1 A1 at first, but it just started rocking SO HARD, oh my gosh. This album has been super back and forth for me so far. I really, really liked Slow Country. A couple songs that I wasn’t a big fan of when they came on. Maybe not the best album to listen to front-to-back, feels like one you just pick a few songs from that you like, but it’s not necessarily one collective storyline or style. Definitely a LOT of variety, which I think Gorillaz is known for. The Spanish song also caught me by surprise but was super cool! And then I chided myself for being surprised because this is Gorillaz hahhahaha. The Suzuki Method song was pretty cool, too, I guess. Excited for this last Clint Eastwood. Alrighty so looking back on it, Re-Hash was really good—I think it’s a spoof on Song 2, right? But of course even better. I don’t know, overall quite a bit of fun, but also some drags. Probably a 2 out of 5 as of right now. It does feel as though it might grow on me, however. :))

Not as good as I remember

After this hits, kind of weak. Little disappointed.

This was an album that I, for some reason, avoided as a child/teen. I think they were “popular” and I liked “real music” (70s musicians with drug issues). Listening to it now, it’s wild how many of these songs were baked into the recesses of my mind despite my avoidance. Robby tried to tell me about the Gorillaz lore. I looked it up on Wikipedia. It’s a very creative idea! I’m glad I listened to it. Ultimately it’s not for me, but I appreciate its existence.

Tomorrow Comes Today Clint Eastwood 19/2000

I only knew this because of the song, "Clint Eastwood." No idea what was going on, except it was made by Damon Albarn and that I was super tired of that track as a single. Also, this was a time when I was way out of touch with music, so I had no idea it was a made-up band and was only in cartoon form. Hearing the rest of the album, it feels like an uneasy mix of hiphop tracks and dub reggae. The melodica, echo effects, etc. Seeing that Dan the Automator was a part of this makes a lot more sense. Way less hip hop that Handsome Boy Modeling School, but definitely in Dan's wheelhouse. It's fine - I don't think it's completely successful, but it isn't as bad as Hail To the Thief. I'd love to hear DJ Format or Pete Rock remix “Rock The House” That was the best song on the album in my opinion. And it reminded me that I should listen to more King Tubby and other dub reggae artists. So two stars for the two Del tracks and Dan the Automator

Saved by the Del…from 1 Star. Maybe innovative at the time but bored me nearly to death 24 years later.

This album is so overrated. From Wikipedia: "...the album incorporates an eclectic mix of stylistic influences, including trip hop, dub, Latin and punk rock." I can make a casserole out of hot dogs, chocolate chips, sour cream, ranch dressing, green peas, and ice cream, but that doesn't mean that I should or that it'll be good. 2 stars only because of Del Tha Funky Homosapien on "Clint Eastwood."

Kind of just souless which makes sense I guess. This is a musical project that produced some moments, but as far as album strength their pretty weak.

The singles were everywhere in 2001, so much so that I refused to listen to this album then. And I guess that was a valid proposition. A lot of the tracks feel like filler working out ideas that would probably be better done in future Gorillaz tracks.

I actually read Dad’s review before submitting mine - and I fully agree. Clint Eastwood is obviously amazing but the rest of this album dragged on by… This doesn’t hold a candle to Demon Days or even the recent Song Machine album. Boring like some of the Blur stuff.

This hip-hop electronica isn’t really my cup of tea. Although there are good things in it, it’s not what I like.

Holy shit was this hard to get through lmao. First half had some solid songs like 5/4, Clint Eastwood, and rock the house. Other than those songs this was some boring ass music. I like gorillas next album demon days so I was expecting a lot more from this than I got. 2.1/5 Fav song: Clint Eastwood

Is this the same Gorillaz that made Feels Good Inc?

first exposure to this band outside of feel good inc and am a little disappointed. This felt very hit and miss

I'm a big Blur fan but hadn't ever heard this album apart from the hits. Listening to it now, I'm not in love at all. Clearly Damon was done with Blur and wanted just to sit in the background and twiddle some knobs. But the hip hop elements just drag it down.

This entire album is the sonic equivalent of Damon Albarn walking around the British Museum of History and thinking “wow, I can’t believe we did all of this.” Two stars.

Some good stuff but 19-2000 Soulchild Remix is and forever will be the only thing I return to from this. And it’s not on the original release so have to factor that in.

Massive Attack com preguiça

Some of the later Gorillaz stuff I enjoy, but this one has never appealed to me, and a relisten hasn't changed anything. The songs are varied in genre, but consistently tepid. "19-2000" is the outlier, with "get the cool shoe shine" bumping round my mind intermittently over the past ~25 years.

Pre: If you're gonna choose 1 Gorillaz album you'd choose Demon Days but okay sure let's go back to the beginning. I think I remember having this CD but I don't think it was played often since I can only recall the two hits. It'll be interesting to come back to it after getting more into Del and Handsome Boy Modelling School though. Post: A lot of the songs here are kinda rippers until Damon starts singing and then everything kinda lowers to about 50% fullness. Like on M1 A1, the instrumental is quite good until we get to the vocals and then everything strips back slightly but in my opinion not for the better. I don't think I have an issue with Damon's singing usually but it's interesting how it sounds a bit work-in-progress here and got better with later Gorillaz releases despite all of Blur preceeding this. It's interesting to see where a lot of the Gorillaz later stuff comes from but most of this album felt like filler or at least as something of a first step towards later work. Clint Eastwood and 19-2000 are still great but they are adrift amongst the rest of this. Highlight: 19-2000 (Specifically not the remix because I've had arguments about which is better before and I'd like this codified here)

Starts off fine.. But after "Punk" it just one funky jam of nothingness after another. Sounds like they were having fun though. (5.6) ★★½

Fuzz pop/rock - meh

Meh. I was never a fan of the Gorillaz when they emerged in the early 2000s (man do I feel old). I get that they were trying to do something fairly left field in a music scene that was very much pop dominated (what a time to be alive, personally) but I just don't really like the sound they came up with. Not for me, I'd rather have Blur

This was not as good as I thought it would be. I'd always liked Clint Eastwood, so I was thinking I'd enjoy the rest of this album. Nope. I found it boring and tedious and immature; and after listening to this entire album, I don't think I like Clint Eastwood as much as I once did.

Boring, the Cartoon Network has a better soundtrack

Highlights: Rock the House, M1 A1. In a nutshell: new millennium aesthetic A virtual band was a unique concept in 2001. It has some nice beats, the loops bored me quickly. The album versions of Clint Eastwood and 19-2000 are suprisingly sluggish. M1 A1 reminded me of Autobahn (no pun intended). The book had to include the debut but I'm wondering if Demon Days or Plastic Beach should be on the list too as a point of comparison. Overall: 4/10

3/10 - It was extremely strange and not that good. I had heard Clint Eastwood before but it was not the best. In the later songs it seems like they gave instruments to people who had never played them and said go off.

Never have given these guys a real listen before. Found out I haven't missed much. Couple good tracks here but mostly meandering filler with seemingly no cohesion or purpose. Some are outright tiresome and/or annoying.

I know it if I re-listened to this thing I’d like the first half a lot more than my original thoughts. A lot more skips than I had expected especially with the beginning vibe of the album. I listened to every song in full, so if it’s a skip I did not miss out on everything (aka it doesn’t mean I skipped the song while listening to it). I have heard the Gorillaz before, I am fairly confident that this is not their best work, and I’m assuming they expanded and hit their highs. So to boil it down to it, there are 1001 albums I should listen to before I die, idk if it’s just me, but I could have died without listening to this one. This is a 2/5 for me… maybe it’ll grow on me. But 8 skips is a lot for an album.

Albarn at his most annoying. Despite many attempts I’ve just never enjoyed this album.

Quite a slog to get through. The most milquetoast rapping I've ever heard on album. A few songs are quite nice and there are some nice parts to even the boring tracks that save it from a 1, but its not something I'm gonna visit again. I found the 2 remixes tacked on at the end more interesting than the songs on the album itself.

I never listened to this album fully, but with how good Clint Eastwood is here, I was excited and figured I'd enjoy most tracks here. But really, after I finished it, I can't say I really liked anything else. Shocks me to say that this is surprisingly an album that you really aren't missing anything by just listening to the hit.

I had only heard a couple of Gorillaz songs in the past. This album started out likable. After Clint Eastwood it lost its way. Some songs were so unpleasant I skipped them. I will just stick with their singles.

This was fine. Kind of boring. Didn't do much! This was everywhere when I was younger, but I didn't recognise any songs outside of Clint Eastwood. I don't feel I really missed out. It's interesting to consider if I might really like this if I'd have got into it way back when it came out. Probably! I quite like Lemon Jelly which has some overlap with this. It's also amazing how far back this came out, in relative terms. 23 years ago! When I was 15!? That can't be right. But it is.

I couldn’t stand Gorillaz when they came out. I didn’t get it. Years later I still struggle to get it. Or at least this album. I love Blur and some of Gorillaz later work is really fascinating, but I feel like they are just discovering what they can do and they haven’t figured it out yet. This album is unbelievably repetitive and BORING!!! Give me variety. Clint Eastwood is the most entertaining song on this album and it’s the worst single they have ever had. So that says a lot. Woof. 2.5 stars.

Was excited to listen but ended up a bit short of my expectations. A couple of tracks I will go back to, but it might just be that i'm not that into Damon Albarn.

Het was duidelijk dat Damon Albarn al tijdens zijn Britpop-periode stond te popelen om zijn creatieve ei kwijt te kunnen. In een semi-virtueel gedaante kon hij dat met Gorillaz, en rond de eeuwwisseling veroverde hij opnieuw de hitlijsten. Maar waar veel grote acts een iconisch debuutalbum hebben, zijn het vooral de singles die de wereld kennis liet maken met de futuristische triphop van Gorillaz. Ik kende deze plaat tot mijn schrik ook niet echt goed - los van de singles natuurlijk. En de conclusie is helaas ook dat de singletjes de lading al wel dekken, én daarom dus fantastisch geselecteerd zijn. De rest van de plaat voelt een beetje als een mixtape, waarin het nieuwe hersenspinsel van Damon en Jamie laat zien wat voor eclectische verzameling aan culturele en muzikale invloeden ze eigen hebben gemaakt. Het gaat nogal van hot naar her, en duurt voor een eerste kennismaking echt wat te lang. Ze hadden het ijs moeten breken, een korte maar krachtige indruk achterlaten met hun atmosferische trip hop. In plaats daarvan bleven ze net wat te lang hangen, en was je niet echt hongerig naar meer werk van ze. Je moet toch een beetje teasen met een eerste release. Dat gezegd hebbende, ik heb genoten van de beats van Dan the Automator en de duizelingwekkende rijmschema's en zalige flow van Del the Funky Homosapien. really did not fuck with this which is such a shame cuz i know how beloved they are. Need to maybe give it another listen but i just felt like there was not a lot to the songs. He is a great songwriter in blur and i like gorillaz songs from other albums so idk wtf happened.

There’s a surprising amount here that doesn’t work. The rap songs are easily the strongest parts, so I guess it makes sense Gorillaz leaned into that later. Surprising to rate it this low. I actually really like Demon Days and Plastic Beach. But Gorillaz did not come out of the gate fully formed.

Going into this album I thought I knew it. Oh how I was wrong. I know 2 songs off this album and that is it. Honestly I didn't care for it. I thought I liked the Gorillaz. Then I realized it was there 2005 album that I knew and liked. Ifs funny how you hold on to something thinking you liked it all. Im now trying to go back and see if I really like them. Demon Day for sure I do but I need to go back and listen to more then just that. I feel like I might not like them as much as I thought. Didn't care for this album. its ok but its whatever to me.

I was too young to appreciate this when it first came out, it was something my friends’ “cool older siblings” listened to. I’ve been looking forward to this listening experience for a long time and frankly it was just… fine? It feels like a really well made album, it just doesn’t pique my interests too much… besides “Latin Simone” but that’s due to the feature from a member of “Bueno Vista Social Club”. Not everything can be special to everyone but I appreciate it exists!

A few songs I liked well enough, would listen to on a lo-fi playlist and when in that kind of chill mood but probably not much outside of that. Musically I’m sure it’s really good but I found a lot of it quite repetitive and struggled to tell the difference between songs at first. Some great vocals and lots of funky bass lines which was cool.

Pretty boring and irritating beyond the one hit, "Clint Eastwood", which is catchy but also irritating from the number of times I was subjected to it in high school. I had to turn the album off at "Sound Check (Gravity)" because of the dude's weird voice.

This came out when I was in high school and all of my friends really liked it. We listened to it a lot. Re-listening to it now, I don't really understand the appeal. Its generally kind of down-beat - not exactly depressing, but much of it is really slapped-out, like someone on prozac. That's kind of what Albarn's voice sounds like all the time. A lot of the supposed "high points" of many of the hits are a guest solo rap, which I generally find to be uninspiring. And the back half of the CD is terrible, just has some real duds on it. It's whatever.

I recall being fine with Clint Eastwood at the time it was released but didn’t like it enough to explore further. I never much cared for Blur and Alburns super British delivery. While Blur bores me, The Gorillaz managed to straight up annoy me. There were moments that I was on board for, some of the beats were enjoyable. Man Research was downright awful and the peak of my annoyance. Somehow they managed to fall shy of my low expectations. 2 stars

This is actually a pretty fun album, it just doesn't feel right for me. I don't feel compelled to download any of these songs, but it's a cool vibe and at a different time in my life I would have really liked it.

I think the singles and image they portrayed back in the day led the general public to think they were a lot edgier and experimental than they actually were. This album was surprisingly mundane, although it did get better as it went on.

(otros discos notabes también fueron Love and theft, Hallelujah! de La Buena Vida,Gold, The Invisible Band o el segundo de Manu Chao... e incluso Fever de Kilye). Este disco tuvo bastante éxito y repercusión porque presentó a una banda virtual con la reconocible voz e impulso de D. Albarn el solista de Blur (su único miembro premanente lo que indica el interés que sigue teniendo en el proyecto, no como parecía ser en su momento, algo pasajero). No se trata del primer caso de banda virtual, ahí estuvieron antes Alvin and the Chipmunks (Alvin y las Ardillas), y varias bandas de dibujos animados de la productora Hanna-Barbera, o ya en clave pop The Archies (también tuvieron sus avatares animados The Monkees, The Beatles o The Jackson...). No se libra ni el heavy Metal (Dethklok) ni las nuevas tecnologías con Miku Hatsune como holograma que arrasa en sus directos. Por suerte Gorillaz demuestran bastante más talento que los ejemplos anteriores y aquí presentaban un interesante híbrido entre música electrónica, indie, hip-hop y world-music con temas como el conocido "Clint Eastwood" y otros singles como "19-2000", "Tomorrow Comes Today", y "Rock the House" aunque sus mejores discos son como “Demon Days” (05) y “Plastic Beach” (06).

This started out better than I expected, but then felt kind of a chore to listen to in the 2nd half.

I’m going into this jaded because I have never liked Gorillaz. All in all tho it’s not horrible. I don’t exactly hate it. I do like the beats and the grooves. They kind of lay a decent foundation on every song and then do absolutely nothing with it. “Clint Eastwood” is trash. And what’s with the Thom Yorke cosplay on some of these songs. You can do falsetto without doing his exact voice. I hate all the record scratching too, but it’s fine. I think they invented shopping mall music.

An ok album

A couple good songs, but mostly pretty weird.

There's a few good songs on here, but overall it's just not very good. A lot of it feels like they wanted to stand out, but it doesn't work too well

I don't think this one has aged well since it was something kinda interesting when it came out. Today it feels really tiring. Not great not terrible. Has few cool beats, but that is about it.

Kind of underwhelming compared to newer gorillaz albums.

This isn't required listening. There are some good to great tracks on here, but there is too much. Too many tracks. The Gorillaz are a project. They don't need full length albums. Do singles as music video releases. Clint Eastwood is a great single, Del the Funky Homosapien kills it.

The singles out shine most of the deep cuts. Wish there were half scores on this website but officially unofficially this album is like a 5/10 maybe a 6/10 if I'm feeling nice. Gorillaz later work Demon days, Plastic Beach and Song machine are much better. Its definitely not their worse by any means but less special, repetitive, and has one big stinker right in the middle "Double Bass." Iconic Album but outshined. P.S. Love the cover

This was OK. I think the singles are very cool and extremely evocative of the time. Unfortunately, it's a bit full of filler, and when it flops, it flops pretty hard. Not unpleasant, but not one to return to.

BL: I have lots of childhood nostalgia associated with Gorillaz, and my dad used to have the Demon Days album on CD which is a pretty good record. Only know “Clint Eastwood” off this record so it’ll be interesting to hear how this record is. AL: this was actually not that great in my opinion. I found the sounds to be rather boring throughout the record, lots of samey stuff. Generally too long for its own good and not enough to sustain itself in my eyes, which is a shame because Demon Days is actually a brilliant record. This one just isn’t in my eyes. I guess this album is on the list more for the precedent it established as the virtual band, this is cool still and for that I understand it’s inclusion on the list. Otherwise I find it to be pretty underwhelming FT: “Clint Eastwood”, “Rock The House”, “Slow Country” 2/5

Veldig gnålete

Nothing to see here. Not even the album with “Feel Good Inc” on it. In a genus move, they took the best song, “Clint Eastwood” and remixed it for a second track fans could dig into. Ok, it just wasn’t what I hoped. Left disappointed.

Only 2 songs really worth listening to

In the 2000s you could add “z” to the end of a word instead of “s” and this would instantly make it the coolest thing ever! It was a truly cursed time to be alive

I liked some of the tracks but it didn’t do anything amazing in my opinion. I really like the gorillaz but I don’t love them. The album lost me until Latin Simone got me back on it. Probably won’t listen again. The more I listen to Clint Eastwood the more I like it. No Wonder it’s one of their hits

I'm familiar with a few Gorillaz songs, but I've never listened to one of their whole albums before. I seem to remember that Plastic Beach was on a lot of best of lists in 2010, and I know the band has a pretty solid following, so I had pretty high hopes for this album. Unfortunately, this album wasn't really my speed. It wasn't terrible to listen to, but it was just kind of boring. Only a few songs stood out from the rest of the album ("Clint Eastwood," "Rock the House," "Slow Country," and "M1 A1"), and even those songs weren't super interesting, they mostly stood out because they were a little change of pace from the rest of the album. I can understand why this album is on this list though. It was a groundbreaking concept to have a band made up of fictional members, and it still feels relevant, as AI and the debate about AI art has been heating up in the last year or so. Hopefully, Gorillaz don't become an excuse for people to let AI create 'art.' Gorillaz may not be my cup of tea, but at least they were created by real artists.

Listened to it three times and in the end I had to skip most of the songs because how boring the were. Listen to whole thing for over hour that's not for me unfortunately. Kinda let me down, judging by the reviews I expected something more.

All sounds the same. I was a fan of Blur, but this arty-fatsy shit isn't doing it for me. Clint Eastwood is the only redeeming feature, just like a lot of Clint's films.

Not sure how to feel about this one going in. Obviously a well known band and I knew a couple singles but never checked out the album. It could have gone either way. This is... Not great. Even the singles are more languid and poorly realised than I remember or their later works. Disappointing, experimental, and messy.

A few hits. Other than that it is the 2000s equivalent of a synthesizer. Dated, aged quickly and not interesting anymore.

First ever listen to this. Some good ideas, and interesting styles. I only recognised one tube, the one about a bag. Only got about half way through. It's quite a long album, right? Some sounds seem a bit dated, which is funny, cos I think of this band as being quite recent. Time flies, doesn't it?

It's not actually that good

Had a buddy in high school who despised Gorilllaz. Couldn't figure out why. I only heard their hits, and they were fun bops. After hearing this album, I understand his hate. Anti-music post grunge SLOP. Clint Eastwood is the only thing saving this from a 1.

Best song - Clint Eastwood

Some debuts are the best thing the band ever do, some are - appropriately enough for a cartoon band - a sketch of what they will go on to grow into. This is a latter, with Demon Days as a 1000% leap forwards. Is it just my imagination or was the Clint Eastwood single version way beefier than this, or has time flattened my memory?

Clint Eastwood is a good song that's been consistently played for over 20 years. The rest of the tracks are horrific. Honestly, it doesn't even sound like the same artist. More like 1.5 stars, but I'll go with 2 for Clint Eastwood.

Gorillaz is mostly a jumble of lifeless hip hop beats, a guitar once in a while and some strange but signature sync sounds. Clint Eastwood is by far the best song on the album, it has what very few songs on the album have, life and energy… actual rapping. It’s not awful but it’s also very overrated. 5.7/10

The Gorillaz: Giants of cartoon music, a band of many faces and many hits, anchored by Albarn's never-stale songwriting chops and blueprinted well by their self-titled debut. Looking closer at that first point, however, reveals that specificity isn't found in itself. The record splits the difference of Britpop, hip-hop, and 90s electronic music and is unable to counteract the prolixity of any of it. Doesn't work in album form; The white background gives it away.

Can’t say I love the sounds in this album. Too alt for me - coming from a guy that listened to arctic monkeys and the xx I got to the second half of the album and actually found a few songs I liked (19-200, rock the house, Latin Simone) Quite a tonal shift from the first half to the second half

Cool album art that looks like a cross between gorillas and zombies driving a jeep. Moody song. Although it's calm with some lo-fi elements, it keeps me feeling anxious and on edge. Clint Eastwood = favourite Okay after 7 songs I decided this album wasn't for me. I ended on Sound Check, which actually sounded a little like someone was just vocal warming up, but with their tongue out of their mouth, and it also gave the call to prayer vibes. Anyways, moving onto the Strokes now. Bye.

I didn't feel the need to stop listening is as much positivity as I can muster. It wasn't awful but equally, it wasn't memorable or inspiring. Even the well-known tracks weren't versions I was familiar with. It left me somewhat apprehensive of what other albums have made it on to this list.
