Post punk British album, kinda ok kinda weird

I wished for a time machine to take me back to an 80's goth club, but this album will have to do.

Sharp and edgy as you’d expect, with a little more fluidity in the drama and darkness than on earlier records, plus a new inclination to droning. “Spellbound” sets a decent tone and “Arabian Knights” is strong. The vocals are distinct and memorable, though occasionally, it sounds as if she’s singing from down a long tube. The slashing-echoing guitars are intermittently interesting (e.g., “Into the Light”). Still, overall, this is hardly a masterpiece and fails to fully move. One’s now and then reminded of Adam and the Ants (which may or may not be a good thing). If this was the beginning of Goth, one wonders what the fuss is all about. Perhaps one has to be a sensitive and alienated adolescent to fully get it.A flat 3 (i.e., no bullets).

I loved these a long time ago, now, they sound like a long time ago.

I will say a British lady named Susan Janet Ballion calling herself Siouxsie Sioux feels slightly problematic. It's not a bad album. It is very front loaded in tracks and blends together after a bit. I think most punk albums benefit from being about 30-35 minutes. This just feels a bit long at 41 plus the 12 minutes of bonus tracks. Especially because the last main album song is 7 minutes and is definitely where the album earns its art rock listing. I would say that I do like it overall. Surprisingly the 3 additional remixes were what brought the album back around for me.

Dark, frantic, vibrant. Vocally very interesting. Very "cool". Driving music. I'd say the only downside is that it sounds a little hollow, needs more bass. Drums are great though. Favorite tracks: "Spellbound", "Halloween"

Dated in all the best ways - heavy but not overpowering use of flanger, grungy lo-fi production that sounds like it was done on a dive bar's DI, drawn-out vocals that carry from one verse into another. The intersection of post-punk and 80s glam and it sounds damn good.

Overall a really pleasant record, but with nothing to make it stand out or impress - no low points either, but it's just. Average.

I really enjoyed listening to this album. In my opinion it's very consistent - I can't find a bad song on this one. Siouxsie And The Banshees developed a unique style unlike any other band of the time I know. I feel "Juju" was an inspiration for many later post-punk bands. Love the mesmerizing vocals, dirty tones and the drum work, especially in the first song, "Spellbound". Will definitely return to this album in the future. Highlight: "Arabian Knights"

Zdecydowanie nie jestem fanem punku i sam bym po ten album nie sięgnął. Jest to też pierwszy zespół w wyzwaniu, gdzie wokalistą jest kobieta i o dziwno mocno zwraca to na siebie uwagę. Na pewno na plus zasługuje fakt, że występuje tu całkiem niezła melodia i pierwsze trzy utwory trzymają podobny styl. Na minus - im dalej w album, tym ilość nieprzyjemnych dźwięków i dzwnych sekwencji melodycznych wzrasta. Płyta świetnie nadaje się na background dynamicznych gier - nie odciąga od rzeczy, na której powinno się skupić, ale całkiem przyjemnie towarzyszy i trzyma w napięciu. "Monitor" był tu dla mnie największym zaskoczeniem, ale to "Spell Bound" i "Arabic Knights" definiują odbiór albumu i trzymają jego poziom.

Bardzo przyjemny album, styl kojarzy mi się z muzyką Maanamu.

Bardzo klimatyczny album, pierwsza wokalistka spośród wszystkich albumów do tej pory z niesamowitym głosem. "Into the light" "Voodoo Dolly" i "Spellbound" niesamowicie wpadły mi w ucho i są teraz regularnie słuchane na przestrzeni ostatnich paru dni. Poza genialnym wokalem niesamowicie ciekawe i bogate tło muzyczne. Moim zdaniem najlepszy do tej pory album.

Wreszcie kobieta na tej liście :D Jest moodzik. Ale generalnie brzmi bardzo dobrze, gitarowe segmenty są fajnie zrobione. Album jest stabilnie dobry. Spellbound i Arabian Knights to zdecydowane highlighty. Niby punk, ale faktycznie ma taki goth vibe, choć się podobno od tego odcinają - nie mi oceniać, czy słusznie. Może byłoby to 3.5, ale 3 to za mało w obliczu poprzednich moich ocen

Dark and gothic, but also driving and catchy. A clear inspiration for some of my favourite artists, with great singles to boot.

first time of listening to this one, some good tunes here. I think this is one of Siouxsies most lyrical of offerings. John Megeoch's Guitar sound was obviously influential to Johnny Marr as it is reminiscent of early smiths stuff on this earlier album. Love "Spellbound" and "Arabian Knights". a good LP not sure if it would be in my list though.

More Siouxsie! Twosie. Sounds like they've refined their sound since The Scream - more melodies and more guitar effects. More to like, basically. Into The Light is great and Monitor is a decent rocker. It does descend back into tuneless noise again towards the end though.

The first 3 or 4 songs are blinders, but my interest tailed off midway through. Overall, it's a good album but I won't rush to revisit it.

This album rocks! I love the Halloween aesthetic about the whole thing. Plus the vocals, being female, make it sound pretty badass.

Very good. I am very into 1980s music and this is a great representative of that era. Spellbound is obviously a fan favorite but I really liked Arabian Knights.

I have a soft spot for these guys. Never my favorite punk band but still good.

While I enjoy the music of Siouxsie And The Banshees, I can't consider myself a fan of theirs. I know (and love) some of their more popular songs (the ones you hear played on Alt Rock stations. I thought that when I listened to this album - which is considered by many as their best - I would recognize at least one song. That didn't happen. I can definitely see how this album would be a favorite of fans. It's different. The only song that stood out to me on this first listen is Voodoo Dolly. I am sure I will grow to love the album as I listen to it more often - which I plan to do. But, for now, I have to give it a 3/5. Hope that that love the album don't scream when they see that. It does take me a while to get attached to something new. 3/5

Maybe I'm biased because I'm listening to this while walking and that puts me in a good mood, but this is absolutely *chefs kiss* I feel like I've been steamrollered and I mean that in the best possible way Spellbound is an EXCELLENT intro and everything else just flows from there, I particularly love the bounciness of Monitor! Basically it's my favourite album on here so far (I know we're only a few days in but hey)

This was so good! Energetic, boppy music from start to finish. Loved the vibe and Siouxsie's voice, a few songs have gone straight into my halloween playlist.

Such a great vibe. It's dark and mysterious while still being catchy and just a whole lot of fun Spellbound is one of the best openers of all time, Halloween is an absolute gem, and Mobile was a groovy little highlight

It is a very mature album. Siouxsie is perhaps at the peak of her grotesque vocal abilities, and the backing singers accompany her with truly satanic fervour. McGeogh's atmospheric guitar performs little acrobatic feats that enrich the sound. Pretty dark (7/10) FT: Spellbound, Arabian Knights

It's nice to listen to a punk album released in the '80s when there is an abundance of more popular music condensed on the radio during that time

This album is fantastic. The band have built their sound and confidence in song-writing. I love McGeoch's guitar playing and Siouxsie's singing. Absolute height of British post-punk. Moody, dramatic, startling, and still fresh.

I didn't have any love for this album. Found it kind of boring.

I'm very pleased to have been presented with this album. Siouxsie was adjacent to music I listened to a lot back in the day. But I haven't listened to as much or as closely as I should have. Banshees here I come! To start with, the album cover is fantastic. I'm optimistic I'll be liking this album. The opening track, Spellbound, is very strong. Interesting, textured, yet catchy. The next track is all about the rhythms weaving into a transportive experience. I appreciate that the songs stick with one melodic or especially rhythmic idea long enough to make an impression before wheeling around to something new. The whole album feels very cohesive to me, generating a very specific gothy/punky/death chick feeling. Like going out the back door of a apothecary in New Orleans at midnight into a circle of pale women whirling around a fire chanting some dark spell. Ensorcelled. A great album. A little dark for my taste, so not a perfect 5 to me. But a jewel of an album for sure.

Punk. But not aggressive. Love the guitar work, and her vocals are great! Monitor is my favorite track. Such a great riff and beat. She reminds me of Jefferson Airplane. I liked it, but overall, not an album I'll probably revisit. I'm glad I heard this though, and I feel I get their appeal, but just a middle of the road album.

This one needed some time to land with me. First impressions: More of the same, eighties wailing, New Wave, it does have some energy to it but still nothing outstanding. Halloween and Monitor kicked things up and I got more of a Goth/Punky vibe from it, I do like that it's very guitar driven and not synth heavy. Still a very 80's sound overall which I've heard a bit too much of as I've worked through this list, but when it's good it's really good, just some duds in there that dragged it down a bit.

Side one of this album is amazing, genuinely a 10/10 - exactly my type of music. Side two does get a bit fillery and I'm not a fan of the final track. The entire album would probably be like a 8.5/10 at worst. Really great.

Vaguely heard of this band, never heard a song before. Very intriguing music, especially for the time. Some songs are much better than others, liked the very first song the most. Overall an interesting album. That first song is really really really good!

This isn't my personal favorite, but it is cool to think that this is ~40 years old. It doesn't sound that old to me.

15th December 2021 Listened while getting ready to go out for dinner with all the wedding crew. I liked bits of this, the grander bits rather than the grungier bits. Know mark kermode is a big fan which is where I first heard of them.

for starters, I hate the singer, and outside of that, it's just corny and bad. I'm trying to find something that I like about it, but It's really got nothing going for It, just typical 80's music. If I gave deep purple a 2 this gets a like a -3, but that's not an option so it gets my first 1 star.

Wow, glad I revisited this. I listened to Siouxsie and the Banshees when I was younger and was big into punk - but I always found most of this punk-adjacent stuff was lacking the raw energy. I also never got into gothic rock and it's still not a genre I care for. Having said all that: holy shit this is a strong album. More interesting, artistic and consistent than 90% of "classic" punk records, so teenage me was wrong to dismiss it. I've long enjoyed the dark, menacing restraint of post-punk which this has down to a tee. But it also makes them work with softer new wave elements. Favourite track is probably "Monitor", but this album is solid from start to finish. 5*

Yeah, really liked this! Definitely giving the band side-eye for their rejection of the goth label, heh. I can see me lifting this to 5 stars with more listens... Fave track - "Sin in My Heart" - love the tempo ratcheting up throughout.

Pretty great album, honestly. I'm here for the riot grrl thing and Souxie delivers that in spades. It's fun, witty, and well put together.

Spellbound is still lovely. Still an odd mix. Not totally-related observation. In Notes on a Scandal, the Cate Blanchett character puts on a vinyl version of a S+tB song, Dizzy. She says (I think; if I were diligent about this, I'd do a check, but...) that it's an old favourite. This is impossible, tho. Said song didn't exist in this past, not on vinyl or anywhere else...

I acknowledge that this was solid more than I enjoyed it. Some songs were a bit much for me personally. However, their stuff tends to grow on me, so I'm sure I will appreciate it more with time!

Just because this Dimery character was unfortunate enough to be born in the early-mid sixties, means I have to listen to a fucking post punk album at least once a week. Discordant cat wailing. The instrumentation was decent though.

I respect how ahead of their time they were, but the album is distorted and fails to achieve a true concept behind the songs, regardless of the cool sounds they produce. Not bad, but not great.

These guys have a really unique sound so they're always fun to listen to. No real standouts on this album except for Spellbound though.

Hadn't ever listened to this before. I think I shied away from things that were labeled goth rock in the past for some reason but I quite like this sound. Favorite track is "Monitor."

Woah, never heard of them but really digging it, although Spellbound sounds familiar. Punk energy with a few experimental flourishes. Ticks all my boxes for 1001 albums it seems. Interesting roster changes as well, I'd say the only track I didn't care for was Halloween, lyrics are too cheesy for me.

I hadn't realized how long this band had been around before the mid-80s. Some of my favorite songs of theirs came on their fourth, fifth, and sixth albums. This captures well the essence of their sound from around that time, and Spellbound is one of their best.

This album hovers between 3 and 4 stars for me. I can't criticize anything in particular, and there are some licks I quite like. The whole things compel me very strongly to listen to it again, although I certainly wouldn't turn it off if it started playing. That sounds more and more like 3 stars to me. :-)

Il est difficile pour moi d'écrire ce review, pour une raison logistique très simple. A l'écoute de cet album, la circonference de ma boite cranienne à commencer à augmenter de façon exponentielle. Passé la 5ème piste, ma tête égalait la taille d'une pastéque, passé la 8ème, c'est à la citrouille que je ressemblais. Ne vous inquiétez pas cependant, ma tête est en train de lentement dégonfler, mais il m'est difficile de distinguer les touches de mon clavier. Pardonnez moi cette review un peu bâclée, je reviendrai plus fort comme disait Olivier Minne.

Reminds me bit about the Cranberries. Post Punk early Goth. Yeah not bad but also not very remarkable. Pretty repetitive. I am sure they have influenced a lot of bands especially in UK. Some may have done even better than them, e.g. The Cure, Bowie, Sisters of Mercy or Guano Apes.

Like the Go-Gos in a graveyard. I enjoyed it. Goth girl lead group was a fun listen. The songs kind of bled together but the overall vibe was unique.

What an album. This is where Siouxsie's punk roots, meld with their gothic stylings and pop sensibilities in a perfect mixture. As always Budgies drumming is captivating and powerful and John McGeogh's stabbing guitars are perfect. And Siouxsie's singing is absolutely sublime. This might be their strongest set of songs, just really hard to find a dud on the album. Arabian Nights, Spellbound, Into the Light ... side one is near perfect. I have always thought Keleidescope was their best album but Juju is right there and on many days it is my favourite. A great album from one of the great post punk bands. 4.5 stars

Enjoyed the first 4 songs. Rest of the album was a bit boring for me. Some good guitar guitar bass in throughout. The added tracks at the end were better than the originals. Great vibe all around and better mixes. Liked the drums more on those versions as well.

Wrapping up this week with an unknown UK band. Confirming that last week was in fact an anomaly that I pray visits us more frequently than Haley's Comet. This wasn't a bad album, and I feel like I keep saying that this week. "Not a bad album but not great". And then mentioning that those shouldn't be words used when discussing top albums of all time. I did save the first song on here, the singer reminded me of Rush a bit with hints of Led Zepplin but the music was sort of bland. The album cover is cool but I won't see it ever again.

Not a bad album by any means, but not a whole lot here stood out to me. I really like the name, and there are some good melodies here despite the post-punk, grunge-y nature of things. I'm sure it was influential, but to me as a listener, 40 years later, it's alright. Favorite tracks: Halloween, Into the Light, Sin In My Heart. Album art: Pretty cool. A bizarre statue surrounded by a collage of musical scales. Someone's pet art project I presume. 3/5

Never actually sit and listened to this album. So I was pretty excited to throw it on. I love spellbound, solid opening for sure. Feels like a Classic in the realm of post punk. It's great, this album maybe came a month early, feels like it would be great for Halloween.

I've heard of them before but this was the first I'd really listened to any of their music, and I liked this a lot. Her voice is a large part of the really dark atmosphere on the album, and I can see why so much was made about the unique guitar playing. Obviously parallels to The Cure, I'm sold Saved: Spellbound, Into The Light*, Arabian Knights, Night Shift

In order to protect my musical ego I'll therefore say that idk what's wrong with THEM this is meh.

Not my typically type of music, but I enjoyed it. The album seems complete as a whole, but no particular track stood out to me.

I've heard about Siouxsie And The Banshees before of course, as a wildly influential band for gothic music and multiple metal subgenres. However, this was the first time I listened to them. I liked what I heard. Haunting post-punk with a good amount of depth and some interesting ideas and techniques. Not quite varied or catchy enough for a 5, but definitely a very good 4.

We can see how this was probably incredibly influential, but it wasn't our thing

This was a very nice surprise. The entire album gives me the sensation of being in the 80's being sad and living my life as a rebel teenager while my mom brings the fresh cookies to my cleaned room. Good experience! The songs are nice too, but the experience is great!

- really like the sound; electronic, post-punk - a little dirge-ish in places but overall fun - Feels out-there for it's time. progressive

It started off fine; the first song wasn't that bad. However, as the album progressed, it just got more annoying. The instruments weren't that bad generally, but the singer's voice and the odd effects they use within the songs got grating since they were more artsy than enjoyable. Favorite track: Spellbound

I like it for it's goth vibes. There are some annoying elements in it, but for the most part I like its repetitiveness. The lyrics are pretty good as well as the voice. Highlights: 1, 3, 4, and 6.

Thoroughly enjoyed this album. Reminds me of a decent amount of post-punk music I’ve listened to that came out more than 30 years later. Not every track is great but some (Spellbound, Monitor, Night Shift) are what I’m always in the mood for listening to. Great singing, great guitar and bass. Had never listened to Siouxsie before and this definitely exceeded my expectations. Not giving it 5 stars because it’s not perfect, just good, but 3 seems too low so 4 it is.

I'm digging this album. Specifically Spellbound, Arabian Knights and Monitor. Why? Guitar and drums!

oh this is exciting, i like happy house from them. not impressed by the first track, i like her voice though. i like the second song better. third song is okay too. well i'm done. night shift was my fave track. overall it sounded good kinda but i didnt love it.

“Spellbound” opens this album and it’s already much more of a badass than I could ever be. The first lines make me think “same” — From the cradle bars Comes a beckoning voice It sends you spinning You have no choice “Into The Light” has a really cool guitar riff that carries the song verse to verse and it makes me imagine a river of golden light carrying the lyrics. The words “Remember when” have me feeling nostalgic for something I’m unaware of. “Arabian Nights” is psychedelic and gothy! “Halloween” is also nostalgic... carefree days being long gone, and the whatnot. Perhaps life is simply tricks and treats, and nothing more...? “Monitor” once again jabs at the concept of the passing of time, a jab I know all too well. The instrumentals on this song are really cool and captivating. And those spooky howls? Amazing. “Night Shift” asks “wonder... What goes on in your mind, always silent and kind unlike the others...” and I was like “this sounds like me”... and the guitars are sick! “Sin in My Heart” made me think of Florence +Machine with added glass shattering effect. “Head Cut” is pretty chaotic and there is a lot of screaming and clapping and howling and screeching and it’s crAaAzy! “Voodo Dolly” closes out the album and is over 7 minutes long and Siouxsie wants me to LISTEN! The reveal line of what I am to be listening to is quite striking and a great way to close out this album. This album is spooky and fun and full of dread and I am all about it! I could imagine some of my favorite musicians drawing inspiration from these tracks.

I always think I don't like SatB until I actually sit down and listen to them. While there are a couple songs here that feel like a stretch - the last track, mainly - there's something for me in every other song here.

A decent post-punk album, but not as impressive as some of their other work I've heard. 7.8/10

Really interesting album from a great band. Can absolutely hear their 70's punk roots and influences (which means I also hear 60's surf rock), but they are much tighter rhythmically and more daring than most punk bands.

Female vocals punctuate this Art-rock album as well as the unique guitar chords and minor embrace of electronics. It was a little grating outside of the main singles.

No way, first track 'Spellbound' is the sample from Akala's 'Where I'm From' 👌 decent, enjoyable. 3/5

This was great! So much better than I expected. A bit too long and the remixes are terrible, but really good.

Siouxsie And The Banshees deserve a lot of credit. They've come up with a truly original sound here. The standard chord progressions of rock 'n roll are nowhere to be found, replaced by an emphasis on minor seconds, tritones and overall dissonance. The rhythms are tribal and relentless, particularly Budgie's drums. McGeoch's guitars lines are serpentine or jagged, and often drenched in reverb--he develops new ideas and concepts for every song. The lyrics are disturbing and evocative. Siouxie's vocals are impassioned. The entire band gives a sustained and committed performance throughout the entire album. The energy never flags, so much so, that the overall effect is claustrophobic. And yet, despite all of the skill and passion involved, not one melody or lick or chord sequence or rhythmic sequence stuck to my brain. That's a mystery, but unfair as it might seem, I'm going to dock Juju a star for that. Even free jazz or avant-guarde classical music needs to provide a point of entry for the listener. Who knows, maybe with repeated listens, Juju would magically become more accessible to me, but at this point, I admire it more than like it.

This album surprised me. I only really knew Spellbound before listening to it, but really enjoyed the other tracks too.

This has always just been a name to me and never consciously listen to them. More fool me, I really liked it. Sounds sick considering it's older than me! Really influential too. 9/10

Ik vind het behoorlijk chaotisch!

Raw, distinctive voice, they influenced a lot that came after, post punk/goth. Siouxies voice is a bit much for me after a while.

Went down a treat in our houses. Considered a 5. Arabian Knights and Sin in my Heart were bloody bangers.

Can hear the influence it had on Sinead O'C, Florence, etc. A few decent ones that still hold up.

In the past I've struggled to article why this mob have not quite done the business for me, but now I think I have an answer. For all their invention - hell, some of Juju really points to new ways that rock can be played - there's an absence of humanity or soul. It's fun when Kraftwerk pretend to be robots, but it's just a touch dismal here. Nonetheless, Juju is bursting with ideas and Siouxsie is an arresting vocalist. Maybe I'll come round.

Spellbound is a cool opening track and I am excited for it. I am digging the dark moodiness, very like The Smiths. Night Shift is a great moody tune. Head Cut is another cool spooky tune.

Decent post-punk/gothic rock album that started off weak, but had much stronger tracks towards the end. 6/10, second half is the best

OK in general, but difficult to listed to more than several songs in a row

The most surprising thing about this album is how early into the 80s it is. This band feels like the blueprint for 80s girl bands for the rest of the decade. Good stuff.

Pat Benatar, but punk

Musically it was slightly above ok. I’ll be honest though, I didn’t listen super closely. What lyrics I did hear I didn’t care so much for, so I feel a 3 is a solid choice

Pleasantly surprised by this one. I'm between a 4 and 5 on this, so I'll give it a 5 just because it significantly exceeded expectations.

I loved pretty much every second of this. (Yeah, that last tune kind of makes the record feel like it doesn’t quite stick the landing.) Easily one of my faves that we’ve done to date! Good shit. Which most likely means we’re getting some hot turds this week just to balance things out. Enjoy!

4.5 | Aquí debería de ir una reseña bastante comprehensiva sobre el rock gótico, Siouxsie, cuánto me gustó el disco y cómo a veces no se toma al rock gótico en serio por lo ridículo de su subcultura pero musicalmente la verdad es que es bastante bueno. Hablaba sobre lo chingón de Spellbound como sencillo y lo sólido del disco en general. Y luego le piqué mal y borré todo y me deprimí. Así que ahora solo dice esto... Gran disco, oigan más Siouxsie.

80s synth pop

Dark post punk... OK. Extrañamente el punk me cuesta más trabajo que el post punk. Fue sorpresivo saber que el post punk existe desde inicio de los 80s y bandas como Savages son parte del revival. Las letras escabrosas me parecen bastante buenas y van muy bien con la música, llena de sonidos y efectos que crean esa atmósfera lúgubre. Me quedo con un par de canciones aunque no creo que vuelva a poner este disco completo. Songs: Arabian Nights, Head Cut

Early Sioux.....more explicitly goth-ish. I lean toward their (relatively) bubblier shit. Finishes better than it starts.

Este disco tiene una vibra que combina a los Yeah Yeah Yeahs con un poquito de Rage Agains the Machine. Un disco muy agradable e interesante. Mi canción favorita fue Spellbound, en la versión de 12”

A mí parecer una de las mejores bandas de goth, tienen una textura más agradable que the cure por ejemplo, el disco tiene canciones muy bien equilibradas, no lo había escuchado completo y monitor fue una gran sorpresa

Creo que no había oído más de una canción o dos de Siouxsie And The Banshees y no tenía idea de qué esperar, por lo que este disco fue una muy muy grata sorpresa. Me encantó el sonido complejo y oscuro sin tirarse a la depresión como The Cure o a un exceso de lujuria como Depeche Mode. Al contrario, es oscuro pero con su personalidad y con mucho movimiento, ritmo y variedad en la instrumentación. La voz de Siouxsie es muy adecuada para el estilo. Bonita sin dejar de ser agresiva cuando se requiere. La guitarra me pareció excelente, y el detalle de usar el Gizmotron en Into The Light me gustó más. La batería, con cambios y adornos interesantes y el bajo acompañando de manera simple, pero choncho y sólido. Y bueno, lo que hace que no le dé la 5 estrella es que hacia el final sentí que duró un poco más de lo necesario y que el último par de rolas ya me habían perdido.

Wonky, tremulous, unnerving. I love how Siouxsie's voice sounds like it is trapped halfway between demented and distraught. Perfectly anxious and paranoid post-punk.

It was fine. I liked their sound, but it was not anything too memorable.

2.5/5. Uptempo punk rock with stringy electric guitar and epic vocals with lots of tension. You can imagine every band member with their eyes closed *feeling* all of their hooks + solos. I'd happily participate in this gothy moshpit if I find myself in 1981, but too stressful a listen otherwise.

Really boring :/

The feeling here is part underground cathedral and part woods in the deep, deep night. I suppose that means that there is a reverent film across the entire album, both space and interiority. The first few tracks sound like rather by-the-numbers post-punk: Still good for my money, and the innovation in guitar playing is well-noted. But it rounds out by shooting off and blazing sonic trails. Those trails have been well-trodden, especially in Britain, but still sound fresh today.

5/10, Seinfeld effect, ahead of its time, but done better by it's progenitors. Some standout tracks, but not enough to save it
