It's al right, but too much metal for me.
Heavy metal ain't my bag
brexit
Mid to low range beer drinking stadium metal. Steeler was a tune but
I have a bit of an allergy to metal, even if Breaking the Law was a Beavis & Butthead hit.
Heavy dude! Just not my cup of tea, really - it all seems just a bit silly.
I'm not a big fan of how choppy their voice is. Sure its pretty popular but I wouldn't find myself listening to it.
OK, old style metal, didnt realise they did Breaking the Law
Still not a big fan of metal.
Comunque "You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise" me ricorda una canzone di uno stage di Mega Man X (Storm Eagle), o Tough Boy di Hokuto no Ken, e l'assolo di Rapid Fire sembra uno dei suoni standard che fanno le pistole giocattolo del cinese. The Rage s'è guadagnata il cuoricino su Spotify.
no te voy a engañar no me lo he escuchado no me va demasiado el metal
Metal
Not really my thing but good fun nonetheless.
It doesn’t sound bad, but I really don’t like this style of music.
It's just that heavy metal isn't my thing. I listened to it, and for metal, its cool. fav. song: breaking the law, i guess
A competent album from an artist I have no interest in re-visiting.
Hasn’t aged at all well - some nice guitar work - metal for 12 year olds - nothing wrong with that
Not my type of music but not the worst
I like seeing people have fun. They obviously are. It’s a fun album.
Just not my cup of tea at all.
As soon as I saw that it was Judas Priest I got a little PTSD from a rough childhood experience; since I am on a different journey in my life where I am trying to embrace things that I didn’t like before, I decided to give the whole album a chance. I did and a few of the song still just don’t resonate with me but I did like the songs united and the ringer. I definitely don’t see myself ever listening to Judas Priest again though :-)
It’s like hard rock except everyone sucks at their instrument so they try to lay down grooves that just suck. 4
I liked this a bit more than black sabbath but still not my thing
not my style
palatable
This was supposed to be my review for Prodigy (did not listen to Judas Priest): mmb-sss-mmb-sss-mmmb-ssss dance music. Wasn’t as into it when it came out as I am into this style now. Clearly an influential album. A lot heavier/more metal than like Fatboy slim or Moby (real or fake moby). Lots of these tracks could still come out today and be played, and they’re 20+ years old. That’s says something. I like a lot of this, some isn’t my style. Firestarter makes me laugh picturing the guy in the video. Not a great song. But the first tracks on the album still slap.
too much of the same thing
Not my genre. Tuned out.
It was okay. Not bad, but heavy in parts for my tastes. didn't have the catchy riffs etc which ac/dc has.

Feeling pretty much the same about this as Black Sabbath. Instrumentals are impressive but vocals...not so much. Metal just isn't my vibe
Judas Priest on aika oman aikansa peruskauraa ja Black Sabbathiin verrattuna eivät kyllä pärjänneet. Iha ok.
3/10
Not my kind of stuff
Saved? ❌ Would listen again? ❌ Would recommend to anyone? ❌ Would buy on Vinyl? ❌
nah
Six tracks in and I'm bored to shit. No thanks 1/5
Did not enjoy it at all. The production is very mechanical and synthetic and the vocals sound flat as fuck. The start is bearable but then it switches into cheesy dad metal. I know they can do better.
Number: 130 Date: 05/13/2026 Artist: Judas Priest Album: British Steel Year: 1980 Style: Metal Familiarity: Familiar (2) Rating: 1 Before: ======= Don't know much about Judas Priest. I was never into metal, The most metal band I used to listen to is Ministry. During: ======= I had to skip through most of this. I do remember “Breaking the Law” but I think that song could be so much better. The version on the album is kind of lame., imo. 2 Rapid Fire 4:07 1 Metal Gods 3:58 2 Breaking The Law 2:34 1 Grinder 3:56 1 United 3:31 2 You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise 5:03 2 Living After Midnight 3:30 1 The Rage 4:43 1 Steeler 4:28 ----------------------------------------------------- 1.43 WEIGHTED AVERAGE (accounts for song lengths) After : ======= As I said, I don't like metal. I'm giving it a decent score for suitability and impact though I really don't have clue about that, just basing it on reviews I've read. 1 my personal rating 5 suitability for this list 4 impact ----------------------------------------------- 3.3 composite rating
Oooh look at us we're Judas Priest we use religious imagery and put razor blades on our album covers. Ooh look at us we're Judas Priest we use a double kick drum, of course we're metal. I am so incredibly bored by this glam rock-ified approach to heavy rock music. It dictionaries included sonic entries as definitions, this album would be the use case for "sell out". This album is lazy, uninspired, and has aged horribly. Not only could you go your whole life without listening to it, you could probably go 10,000 lives without listening to it. Hell, Spinal Tap makes better music than this album, and they are a parody of this very music. One star. Favorite track: none
no just no! add them to my list w deep purple
I am aware of the existence of Judas Priest. This came out when I was in high school - but I never really got into them at the time nor since. I'm sure the only songs I've ever heard from them would have been their radio singles - but I never once just sat and listened to this or any of their other albums front to back. So here goes... Ok, I vaguely remember the songs "Living After Midnight" and "Breaking the Law". I thought they were kinda dumb songs at the time. I guess that's why I never dug deeper. I just noticed that part of the vocals on "Breaking The Law" sounds like David Bowie. I can see how Metallica took some of their shtick from this. The growls at the end of each line for example. Also, the song "Rapid Fire" kind of sounds like Metallica (to my non-metal head ears). I just don't get into most heavy metal. It just seems stupid to me. I'm sure that's a me problem since I know lots of people love this stuff. It just feels like fake anger and that they are just posing as rebellion. Oh my gosh, you're staying up past midnight and rocking until the dawn - such a rebel. What will your parents think?? And now you're Breaking the Law - oh no - what are we gonna do with this wild child?? Haha! Funny reading that the movie Spinal Tap was spoofing this somewhat - I was the kid that loved Spinal Tap (I used to, but I still do too) for making fun of this kind of stuff. Tap is a better band than these guys. There I said it, and I don't care who disagrees. I went back and looked - in 1980 I was spending more time listening to groups like The Police, Pretenders, Cars, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Springsteen, The Kinks. These are all artists I still like. Judas Priest just didn't interest me at the time, and still doesn't apparently. I don't need to hear any of this again. Liked songs on Spotify: 0/11 Rating: 1/5 (should be zero)
Not for me
Awful, one dimensional bad metal
Meh
Nah, just slop
Not for me
How could anyone actually like this?
Shite, metal, shite
Almost nothing from this era of heavy metal is worth listening to.
не моё
si me siguen haciendo escuchar metal me voy a retirar.
Amazing album!
2/10
I’m learning things about myself. Namely, I do not like heavy metal.
Just can't handle 80's metal these days. I appreciate that it was ground breaking for it's time but it does not serve me at all.
Teatralsk og show-off.
Look kinda hiphopie. Uhm i tried buttuh i don’t like it😣
No me gusta este tipo de musica
I didn't like it
TOO MUCH ENERGY
eh metal işte 👎
Not for me
Shite
Ich hasse metal 1/5
Not my thing
Surprising how unheavy early heavy metal is today. Loses a full star for the patriotic song.
I‘d rather listen to Motorhead. Really
not a fan, this genre just isn't for me😔
fuck that
Caught myself enjoying this in a couple of fleeting moments. Rollicked along nicely in places. Any hope of the second star was dashed by the final track though, what the hell was that all about it.
High 1 I wasn't in the mood
I kinda liked United but mostly not my thing. :-/ Judas Priest has some nice album covers tho.
Imagine you're away on holidays. It's evening time and you fancy a drink, but there aren't too many options in the area you're in. You hedge your bets, and pop into a grimy pub full of locals. The walls have dusty posters of Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden. The beer is watery, but cheap. It'll do, I guess. Then you see a handwritten sign on a blackboard behind the bar. "Live music at 9pm". You look at your watch. It reads 9:04pm. This could go either way. A group hop up on the stage area to a handful of claps. Big hair, clad in leather and denim, they start to play. But you can't figure out what they're playing. It's like they're a Van Halen or an AC/DC tribute band, but the songs they're playing aren't Van Halen and certainly aren't AC/DC. It's like they didn't have the rights to perform the real songs, so they just made their own versions to avoid copyright infringement. You drink up as quickly as you can. That's how this album feels. Like Judas Priest were trying to perform Van Halen and AC/DC songs, but it all lacks substance, originality and ends up sounding like a bad tribute band, playing their own versions of other people's music.
Oof, fair few guitar riffs that still work and the drums don't miss, but it ain't my bag.
Yeah whatever
I just don't like metal :(
*no music. Screaming vocals and banging instruments.
I'm being overly harsh but I don't want to listen to this album again. It's not interesting. It sounds so generic. It's not entertaining. Sometimes it's decent, but other times the lyrics and singing just make you frown. This genre can be so much better.
That one called Breaking the Law has 3820000 plays on Spotify, I think Nietzsche put is best when he said "say what?" So I listened to tracks 1-3-5-7-9 just to see if there was anything beyond Spinal Tap and Some Kind of Monster. There is not. Goodnight and all the best to you all.
Boring. Pretentious.
Does absolutely zero for me. Objectively it’s probably not terrible given their longevity and all. But this is the type of so-called metal that I really don’t enjoy.
Hui abfahre. Weeeg demit. Monday morning, i can not handle. Aber wärs es 2 oder es 1
Nope
No.
Punk patriotic in the worst way
Unlistenable. I don't know why people like it.
i can’t think about the fact that people sincerely consider this good music for too long or i will actually get angry. just looking at the comments on youtube makes me want to throw up.
i don't know what else to say in these heavy metal album reviews. it's not good.
This is everything that I dislike in a metal record. It’s like Rob Halford sat down one day and decided to write the cheesiest bullshit imaginable and call it metal. I struggled my way through the 10 studio recordings here, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to listen to the live tracks that Apple Music is offering. If I never hear another Judas Priest song, it will be far far too soon. Yuck.
Absolutely asinine. If this is what the new wave had in store, they should’ve let British heavy metal die with dignity. Meaningless lyrics and boring, predictable, uninspired guitar hooks. Hard to overstate how little I enjoyed this album.
KILL ME NOW -♾️/5
not my music at all. im a little annoyed by it. cant believe i listened to all of that.
Okay Judas Priest, what do ya got. Wondering if we got another "1-star" rating coming down the pipe from me. What are we singing about? Laser beams and axes and robots? God damn I hate this kinda shit hahaha. Breaking the law? Yeah, breaking the law is pretty cool. Singing a silly little song about breaking the law, though? Dorky beyond measure. Living After Midnight > United > Grinder > Steeler > Breaking the Law > Metal Gods > The Rage > Rapid Fire > You Don't Have to Be Old to be Wise Living After Midnight maybe the most I can stand of these, I like that it's poppy and catchy and lyrics a little less annoying, but it's still doesn't quite push the album to a 2.
Not my thing by a long shot. If people enjoy this, great.
Niet geluisterd geen fan
Not my kind of mudic
Never been a fan of this type of metal. I like Breaking The Law but only as a punch line when I do something I shouldn’t.
Not even me remembering fondly my adolescent self running around screaming "Breaking the Law, Breaking the Law" a la Beavis and Butthead could save this album. It was terrible.
Wasn’t great when released either.
Didn’t enjoy, didn’t even finish, sorry JP
Noped out of this one in the first track. Currently I'm bedridden with abdominal pain, so suffering through metal is a hard no.
No juju
Yeah. Not for me. This is just so overdramatic
No. Not under any circumstances.
Waste of time and waste of space on this list.
British hard rock that ain't for me
not interested in this at all
Listened to the 1st 3 songs then moved on to the Clash. Not my thing
Heard one, heard ‘em all
Disliked very much. Guy's voice is intolerable.
Not my cup of tea.
Even as a slightly gormless and tragic teenager when getting into comic-book metal bands like Iron Maiden, and even thinking Def Leppard was rock music I though Judas Priest were just silly and cringeworthy. You will not be surprised to hear that in the intervening 30 plus years this situation has not improved. Who listens to this bollocks? I don't care how well played it is. It sounds silly. It is silly. Even the most credible sounding tracks on here are just copying Motorhead except the singer, instead of gargling gravel, apparently got his knacks caught in a pasta press.
Definitely not for me.
You can really hear the super-lame hair metal like Poison or Motley Crue lurking just around the corner from this super-lame whatever-the-fuck-kind-of-shitty-metal-this-is. I know some idiots think they are discerning music fans who just hate, for example, country music, but really they are just prejudiced and haven’t heard good country music and hopefully a list like this could broaden their horizons and educate them a bit. But the thing about metal is that there is no good metal. It is all shit. There are no metal albums that anyone needs to hear because the genre as a whole is completely without value unless you are a 15 year old boy or a moron. I am neither of those, so I have no interest in ever hearing any metal albums of whatever type. They are all absolute garbage.
DNF - Sorry not for me
No thanks.
No
Not my bag - I don't think its horrible, but I also don't really find anything redeeming in this. 2.3/5
Una verga
What an old din
Not available on Apple Music
I've never been a fan of Judas Priest and I'm still not a fan after listening to British Steel from start to finish. I can't stand Rob Halford's singing. I find their themes and their whole attitude annoying.
Boring.
Metal which I dislike with a passion lmao. Not the strongest streak now..
This sucks.
Not for me
Boring heavy metal. Not the genre for me.
It's not that its not my thing, I just don't like it. Mostly I don't like the structure of the songs, the production, the drumming. First album with dave Holland on drums, should have gave it a go without him The iron maiden album I listened to last week was so much better than this. Its so short and overstays it's welcome. After Two listens today, I can guarantee I will never listen to this again United is the highlight, finally a song with a bit of melody, I'd add this to a playlist and forget the rest. There is also a song a little later with a reggae beat that is fine, but overall, i just didn't like it at all. Maybe a 1 would be too harsh, but that was my thought when it started, when it ended and during. Towards the end of the second listen i was really not enjoying it
Not my kind of music.
Heavy metal is not my taste.
My favorite part of this album was when it ended.
Can’t do the metal.
i guess i just really don't like british heavy metal. way too happy and energetic. plus quite repetitive, it felt like listening to the same song for 45 minutes. will definitely not listen to it again
Don't like metal
Compared to Sabbath, Zep and Queen. I'm a big fan of the latter two and do not agree.
C'est beau comme du Johnny Halliday.

Beavis & Butt-head “breakin the law, breakin the law!”
Somewhere between punk and heavy metal. Wasn't crazy about any songs.

absolutely not my taste of music :)
too much. 1.
Kämäistä sillä huonolla tavalla, jonka valitsemista punkin kämäisyyden sijasta en ymmärtäisi, vaikka eläisin 200-vuotiaaksi.
The first track sounds like a neutered version of Mötörhead, without the spark that can make the latter thrilling. The second track sounds like a neutered version of Black Sabbath, without the spark that can make the latter thrilling. The third track is a famous single, admittedly catchy. The fourth track sounds like a neutered version of Van Halen, without the spark that can make the latter thrilling. Or is it a neutered version of AC/DC? Or some proto-Guns'n'Roses? Anyway... I can't decide if the fifth track is as moving as an old union song, or just plain ridiculous. The sixth track is yet another dumb compositon by Judas Priest, the ultimate cheesefest hairmetal band. And the seventh. And the eighth. And so on... You get the picture now, I believe. The stats in this app say I don't like "metal" and "hard rock". Nope, I *can* like those genres. It's just that I hate a lot of albums in that style that the so-called "specialist" within Dimery's team selected. Whoever he is, that guy (he's probably a bloke, right?) just has an awful taste in music. 1/5 for the purposes of this list, which translates to a 4/10 grade for more general purposes (4 + 0). Number of albums left to review: more than 500 (I've temporarily lost count) Number of albums I'll include in my own list: half so far, approximately Number of albums I *might* include: a quarter, approximately. Number of albums I'll never include: another quarter (including this one--many others are more important to me)

Crap.
Not my thing
Metal. No thanks.
Not a fan.
Not my thing.
👎👎👎
No. Just no.
Nope. Got as far as Grinder and gave up. Basic, unimaginative and pointless.
Judas Priest - British Steel Refused to listen.
I don't like Judas Priest.
A crud sandwich topped with crud sauce served on a bed of crud
yuck
Sorry, I can't stand this band. I feel that their version of "heavy metal" has lost all connection with the Blues which is an essential ingredient in any genre of music.
not my thing
life’s too fucking short for 80s metal sorry
Most of it was complete garbage...but the songs had the quality that at times I found myself muttering aloud "breakin the law....breakin the laaawww". 1.5/5
SNOOZE FEST. not a creative idea in sight. lame.
Nope. Not for me. This would be good for anyone that likes AC/DC
Did not like it then and still don’t. Lacking intelligence and talent.
Sorry, but I’m good
p460. 1980. 1.5 stars. Well done of its type, but definitely not my thing. Rob Halford can't sing, and there is a lot of filler. It's dull and left no lasting impression, and the final track (Red White And Blue) is an abomination. Really struggled to listen to this one all the way through. Not essential listening.
As a proud Priest-head, I can't really put into words what this record means to me. As a young man without identity when I first heard the lyrics, I wept. Finally someone had voiced every feeling I had bottled up inside me. This release was so powerful and completely turned my world upside down. In a good way. I felt that I could wear what I wanted, shag who I wanted, love what I wanted, without any prejudice. I owe these guys everything and if they are reading this, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! You made me the man I am today.
I dont like that type of music.
Hardcore and probably not for me
Metal and heavy rock, not my genre. Didn't finish
Oh come on. There are a lot more than 1001 albums that are more worth listening to than this. Not good.
A heavy metal platter of stodgy commercially-produced cheese. I find this style of overblown rock/metal laughable... in an annoying way, not a fun way. 1.5*
Nope
No, just no
Nope
Allt í lagi. Rembings söngur sem er leiðigjarn á tímabilum. Betra í klassísku rokklögunum.
I'm not a heavy metal fan so I didn't get into this one. 1/5 stars.
I genuinely don't get the appeal of this sort of music. Is it supposed to be cool? Edgy? Rocking? The instrumentals are boring, the songs feel very samey structure- and instrumentation-wise aside from some stylistic changes like united (which is just boring in another way), the lyrics lack substance and feel like what dads think are cool. I get the same feeling from this that i get from a lot of modern pop records, making the same song a few times, hope some become hits, make an album. Very lame overall, although i do appreciate breakin da law.
; "Red white blue veramente???" Comunque non avrò mai voglia di risentirlo.
Dedo no cu e gritaria
Big fan of the chorus to Breaking The Law - (has to be sung whenever that phrase is used in a conversation), but nothing more.
Doffe ellende.
Need to rename this 999 Albums to “Renew Brits Lacklusters”. Too many repetitive albums that all sound the same and mostly from across the pond
😝😴
"BREAKING THE LAW, BREAKING THE LAW" Oh yeah, so metal. I find myself wishing this was less bon jovi and more black sabbath.
Hints of musicianship, terrible vocals
I didn't like this one.
This genre really isn’t for me but I did end up adding one song to my library from the album hahaha
