Reviews (page 6 of 10)

Dragged on a bit, but it was quite enjoyable, with a few high spots on the journey to the end.

Electronic-Pop ever!

It’s ok

Tbh other than Around the World I didn't love love this album

ja, da war schon einiges dabei

3.5 Stars groundbreaking album but kinda Underwhelming in the grand scheme of things

Daft Punk is pretty good at what they do, but they don't make music that is made to be listened to. All the songs on this album are something to be played in the club; none of the songs really stand out on their own, save maybe a few. That being said, all of them are good music to dance to after getting piss drunk and high.

Daft Punk would eventually come to rule my heart, but the Homework era has always seemed like proto-daft punk to me. There are some bangers. Everyone knows Around the World. And I’m sure that this opened a lot of new doors when it came out. But, it’s better suited as background music due to its persistent repetition. Wake me up when it’s time to listen to Discovery.

Not my cup of drugs, I prefer their last album better. But I have nothing bad to say about it, it's alright

I wanted to like this album, and it wasn't all bad, but each track is pretty much an earworm--a single musical phrase that just repeats and repeats until you go insane, and not in a good way.

Biggest discrepancy between the hit and rest of the album, ever. Around the World is a great, simple and incredibly groovy song that easily could have been 50-minutes long, because rest of the record is that bad. One amazing song, ten mediocre at best. I'll check the other Daft Punk albums out if curiosity, but I don't think it's going to be this bad. Nevertheless, 3 stars minimum for the hit from my youth.

Interesting that they picked this album and didn't put Discovery or Random Access Memories on the list. Personally, I like this the least of the three. With so many other artists questionably having multiple albums (looking at you, The Fall) this seems like a group that would have at least two.

3.5. Some very good tracks on here. I know their later works would score higher.

Super fun and still remember how you couldn’t go a week without hearing this in the early 2000s.

I like Daft Punk, but I think that a whole album is a lot to listen to in one go, especially when it's well over an hour long.

It’s what is it is but it’s not the vibe for the drive to work on a Tuesday

Very good. Hadn't noticed how good the base line is in Around the World. Love: Da Funk Rollin' & Scratchin' Rock'n Roll Indo Silver Club

Meh. Not the worst electronic album on the list. But still just not a fan of this style of music. This might be one of the best electronic albums on this list. At least so far in my opinion. But it like all electronic albums just fall prey to ultimately being very repetitive. At least this one was a little more varied than most others.

Parts of this album were classic, worth 5-stars. Other parts were unlistenable, worth 1-star. Let's meet in the middle with a 3-star rating! Liked Songs Added: Da Funk Around The World

A couple good electronic jams that are so catchy, but a lot that are super repetitive and forgettable.

3 estrelas

Not bad at all. I was tapping my foot along with quite a few songs. But I have to agree with what other reviews have said: this album is just very repetitive. Plus, I’m not the biggest fan of club sounds.

A lot of artists I love name check these guys but I just can't get into them. Some parts catchy, some boring and some irritating.

The two things I disliked about this album are the repetition and the length. The beats are excellent and prevent me from hating "Homework". "Da Funk" is my favourite track from the album. "Around the World" was a bit too repetitive with the song title being said over 100 times in 7 minutes. Even if I dislike this album, I love Daft Punk. 3 stars for Homework.

iwie geil aber manchmal ah extrem nervig. 3.5.

I don’t mind Daft Punk, or this style of high-energy electronic music, but in small doses only. I found myself engrossed in the opening track, Daftendirekt, it was very sonically catching. The album went for a bit too long but it was decent, with 2 or 3 recognizable pieces.

ONE HOUR AND FOURTEEN MINUTES?! I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong...but this time I'm not. Cutting out a solid 20 minutes would dramatically improve this. I don't hate any of the songs, save for the impact Rollin' and Scratchin' had on me when it popped on and made me do a double take, but generally too long. That said, some of these songs are really great and even the dronier stuff would be good to run to or drive down an empty highway at night.

I feel that copious amounts of ecstasy might be needed to fully enjoy this record. Each track has the possibility producing one of following results: (1) scratch an itch I never realized I ever had in the first place, (2) make my brain hurt, or (3) come suspiciously close to having a seizure. Sometimes, all three can happen simultaneously.

Pretty good overall though repetitive and irritating as hell in some spots.

Da funk was such a huge hit and pushed electronic music farther into mainstream

Fun dance music.

I really hope this isn’t the only Daft Punk album on the list, while I think it’s arguable if not probable that Homework is the duos most important album I definitely do not think it is their best. The sounds and grooves on this album show a level of mastery rarely achieved on a debut album, a skill that the duo continued to perfect on their later releases. There are so many incredible tracks on here that are defining for the duo, Around The World, Da Funk, Fresh and Burnin’ to name a handful of my personal favourites. The main issue with this album is the group had yet to find the line between a driving hypnotic groove that builds over the course of a song, see Superheroes on Discovery as a great example, and a repetitive loop that, while neat, overstays it’s welcome without meaningful development during large portions of its running time. There are a number of instances on this album where songs are 2 or 3 minutes too long leading to a bloated unnecessary runtime. Still when the songs are good they’re incredible and there are enough great moments on here to leave a lasting positive memory. The sound design is timeless and still feels cutting edge to this day at points. Overall 3.5/5

i am so glad daft punk has gotten so much better since then because wtf is this. half of this album had me scratching my chin. Da Funk gotta be the best tho

This would hit so hard if I was on molly at a midnight rave in Paris, but I'm at my cubicle working in Excel. 3/5.

This is better than than haters want to believe, but it's still a bit of a slog. Iconic hooks around here in what amounts to a great dance album, problem is EDM is inherently bad. Very repetitive only great on MDMA

6/10. Some good stuff but overall got boring in a lot of spots for me.

Some of this album I thought was really good, other parts I caught myself going to take my ear buds out because it was that bad.

I'd consider myself a fan of Daft Punk, albeit a casual one. However, this album was not great. Around the World brings me back to the days of playing NBA 2K13 on my PlayStation, so that alone gives it another star.

Daft Punk was a band I heard about before I heard, and thought I would love. Years later when I heard them, I was not impressed at all. I'm hearing this album and thinking the early buzz around this album probably was what gave me the positive impressions. I don't love this album, but it's SOOO much better than what I heard from DP in the 2000s, its a breath of fresh air. Some solid trip hop and acid jazz bits at times, (High Fidelity) but a few phoned in tracks (Teachers). They threw some spaghetti against the ceiling and bits of it are still falling to this day.

Based on get lucky I was hoping for a grove based album with some melodies. Not the case. Dance track instrumentals. Couple of fun parts not what I wanted. Fine record though.

I think I subconsciously like this better because it is Daft Punk. There’s a lot of really great house on Homework including a few of their greatest and most recognizable songs. I still find the runtime of almost 74 minutes excessive - and I know that they went on to produce even better albums in the future.

I don't think Daft Punk titled this album as an instructional to how they imagined it being used, but listening to 'Homework' did indeed take me back to many late nights as an undergrad. Hello old friend. For me this is a great album to zone out and get things done to, which is frequently what I get out of an electronic album. I think "Around the World" and "Burnin", maybe "Indo Silver Club", are the only tracks that would really work on their own, but we are meant to rate whole albums, and as a whole album I think this definitely works. Some tracks are a bit annoying.

Their other albums are better, but this is still pretty good (3)

Daft Punk is playing at my house (my house) but it is most likely not going to be this album. This book seems to give preference to influential artists' early work given that is the first the general public hears of that sound. This is not Daft Punk's best album by any stretch of the imagination. If I HAD to hear a Daft Punk before I died, it would not be this one. I tapped my foot a lot with this album and the reviews I see where the repetitive nature of the songs are discussed are not lying. I like Da Funk and High Fidelity the most on here. Otherwise, it plays like an album of songs that weren't intended to be an entire album...which is what this is.

Thoughts before listening: I like Daft Punk as much as I like any dance music. They certainly have some catchy songs, but the genre in general doesn't connect with me. "Da Funk" and "Around the World" are bangers so I'm glad to see those on the track list. Review: This is a very long album full of a music style I don't really love. At least not when sitting at my desk listening while I work...I'm sure this would be a blast to see live. There are a few pop hits on here that I enjoy and have quite a bit of nostalgia for, but overall, this just isn't for me. 3-stars because I get that its a very important album to people who enjoy this type of music.

Some great songs on this album, but listening to them all together is a bit too much 3/5

Few good songs, hard to listen to, more of a vibe

Daft Punk - Homework This is the first album from this website that I had actually heard beforehand (this is my 80th album). I listened to this years ago, way before the band would eventually break up. At first, I appreciated for how experimental it sounded at the time, but as time went by, I realized how crucial this was from their growth to what would eventually be the creations of "Alive 1997" and "Discovery). The album is really long but it offers a ton of new ideas to the table, although few of them might sound annoying at first listen and they do tend to over extend some of their songs here. Highlights on this album are "Revolution 909", "Da Funk", "Fresh", "Around the World", "Burnin'", "Indo Silver Club" and "Alive". I feel old the fact that in two years this album will turn 30 years old. Man, I miss Daft Punk so much, this is good. 1.- Daftendirekt = 8/10 2.- WDPK 83.7 FM = 5/10 3.- Revolution 909 = 9/10 4.- Da Funk = 10/10 5.- Phoenix = 7/10 6.- Fresh = 9/10 7.- Around the World = 9/10 8.- Rollin' & Scratchin' = 6/10 9.- Teachers = 6/10 10.- High Fidelity = 8/10 11.- Rock'n Roll = 5/10 12.- Oh Yeah = 7/10 13.- Burnin' = 9/10 14.- Indo Silver Club = 9/10 15.- Alive = 10/10 16.- Funk Ad = 7/10 FINAL SCORE: 7.8/10

While not my cup of tea - I did not mind this album. I think what I liked the most is every song does NOT sound the same. At all. It had a great mix of some 'real' instruments. I like the way some songs are darker/grungier and put your head down and close your eyes and just move to the music at the club and others are happy, hands up, smiling at your friends, laughing while dancing at the club lol. Good variation of sound/beats/etc. I can respect that. Overall pretty well produced and good dance music and I think they're pretty creative. Once again I love that all the songs do not sound AT ALL alike across the album. I appreciate that.

I enjoy Daft Punk and understand that they paved the way for house and electronic music starting back in the 90’s, that being said, this is their first album and it doesn’t have the catchiness that their next album has (I’m about 99% sure that will come up during this challenge). So while I do enjoy the genre as a whole and enjoy Daft, this album didn’t hit for me as much as I would’ve liked.

I'm not the biggest electro guy, but you gotta respect Daft Punk. I was definitely grooving to most of the album even though it ran on pretty long. Good work background music for sure. The highlights for me were Da Funk, Around The World, Rollin' & Scratchin', and Alive. This falls at a High 3 for me. The long runtime and the filler songs take away from the high points that would've made it a 4.

It’s a good display of potential but is very much front-loaded. Shoutout to all those nights trying to 5-star “Da Funk” on Just Dance.

Cool stuff. Lots of tracks pretty basic by today’s standards but more revolutionary at the time. Cool to hear.

Was cool background music

Homework for homework, not casual listening friendly

I see the appeal. Didn’t hate it but ultimately a lot of it was monotonous to my ears. Would enjoy live probably.

Why did Daft Punk choose to make the longest songs the most annoying ones? Like there are some legit good songs here, but the ones with the most annoying sound effects were like 8 minutes long. Honestly, I understand why this album is here, and Daft Punk are iconic, but they have better albums. Discovery and Random Access Memories are way better. I’d also put the Tron: Legacy soundtrack on here over this album. It’s arguably the best thing they’ve ever done. This album is the first, so of course it’s here, but it’s far from their best. Also… Around, and I cannot stress this enough, The World.

is it just me or is this kinda mid? i guess this was one of those situations where they were literally pioneering the genre so it doesn't sound like we expect it to on a revisit, but ugh. this was a chore.

i was really excited to see this as my daily album, especially so soon after listening to justice's cross the previous week. after the first 15 minutes or so, i realized that the excitement had faded and i hunkered down for another hour of repetitive house music. this album is really a slog outside of the few singles. it's fine if you have it on in the background and just want to get into the zone, but for active listening it's positively mind-numbing. favorites: da funk, around the world, alive, funk ad

This is a great album! I listen to this type of music but it's not a primary for me. I understand why Daft Punk gained such popularity off of this one! 4/5. EDIT: I think I'm going 3/5. My previous assessment came halfway through the album. It gets a little esoteric deeper in.

I've never had quite an appetite for Daft Punk, I'm not going to start now. It's... fine, there are moments for French house, in life, but those are not 74 minutes long. And while I'll happily listen to Laurent Garnier's "Unreasonable Behaviour", I think over the years I've figured out what's wrong with Daft Punk. The whole package, music and helmets and video is such an engineered, overdesigned product it's like it was conceived in a LinkedIn hustle post. There were whiteboards involved. Post-Its. "Target Audience Analysis". When this is playing I feel like I picked up the phone to find some pushy asshole trying to sell me a new insurance. But sorry, mate, I'm in the car right now, entering a tunnel, I can't hear y—

There are some classics in there as usual, but some of the songs are just too noisy and repetitive for me to enjoy fully.

love house music but listening to full house album is lowkey torture. music like this was not supposed to be consumed this way. still very good regardless

good debut album for Daft Punk, overall electronic music still doesn't quite do it for me, but Daft Punk might be the exception where they make it interesting enough for me to not get bored

fun but not my thing

Album was fine. Not the best for just listening casually at home. A few of the songs were recognizable. 3/5 Probably won’t listen again

Nostalgic. The launch of a movement and something great. But this was still a club record. Some great hits, but it's loooong.

It's another overlong and repetitive album which, in terms of essential listening to the general listener, a couple of tracks would be sufficient. It's not a particularly bad album but it's also not that interesting.

The stand out tracks were the singles from the (probably too long) album, which are great in isolation, but all together with the rest of the album tracks seemed to lose some of the magic.

Kinda have a love hate with daft punk, quite often they miss and it becomes a kinda mulchy pop electronica. But when they hit they hit hard. This album has all that in it.

Nice work mes amis x

Nice defence music, but far too repetitive.

The singles from this are fantastic, but as an album, it's far far far far far far far far too long (and repetitive)!

One thing this 1001 list has taught me, is that i really do appreciate a good repetition.

As influential and well-crafted as it is, I cannot say I love this album. My opinion has not changed.

daft punk is of course an all time great. this album presents a good baseline for house and techno. the beats are catchy. albeit one note.

I know, I know, it's repetitive and stuff, but this album sounded different from anything in that same time period. And it sounded very good. It's far from their best, but it is good.

I don't know if this album works as a whole. I think it is best enjoyed once it's been chopped, sampled, and remixed. It almost feels like this is a demo reel for other bands to pick beats and mixes to make songs out of. Really cool to see early Daft Punk, but not crazy about the entire album.

This is not really for me overall, it was entertaining enough though felt a bit long. Around the world would be so much better without that part of them.

Not the best example of 90's euro house. But, without Homework you don't get the 2015 Daft Punk masterpiece known as Random Access Memories. I enjoyed Homework quite a bit, repetative I get it. But its music for dancing not really listening intently.

Solid background music for doing other tasks, not super fun to sit and listen to. But that's the case for all EDM in my opinion. Not horrible by any means, but the droning beats get very boring very fast if you actually take a second to listen to the music. Which I prefer to do. Top tracks: Phoenix, Teachers, Burnin'

Way less pure disco than their later stuff, really well done EDM that possibly caused this music to infiltrate every TV show and ad that happened after. It's good though, so I get it. Not something you put on to have a serious listen. It's a non-stop party. First half is better, and the complaints about this being repetitive are not off-base. Liked it way more than I thought I would.

As for music to work to, I really like the album, which I didn't expect, to be honest. However, it is not my cup of tea, so I only give three stars

Definitely wasn’t for me.

I enjoyed the songs but it really was too long It gave me the feeling of when you walk into a club too sober, and there's only about 3 people on the dance floor. You want to have a good time, but it's not quite right This probably would have been a 4 if I'd have been on the jägers all night 3 ⭐️

It’s good but it’s the same good thing again and again and again and again and again

Oddly enough I hadn’t heard much of this album. I always go to discovery for the basics. This was decent. I like how they grew later.

Franchement surcôté ("rock'n roll = ignoble)

5.5/10

I liked!! 3.5/5 Fave tracks: - Da funk 5/5 didn’t want it to end - Alive 4/5 Reviewed 06/09/2024

This is their debut album. It has Da Funk, and Around the World on it. Those songs went pretty big when this album dropped in the late 90's. This album is great for working. Good beat, rave quality electronica. To just sit and listen to, it would be repetitive as fuck and probably become annoying after a while. Favourite songs: Around the World, Da Funk Least favourite songs: Burnin' 3/5

I like Daft Punk as much as the next person, but sometimes it really feels like they phoned it in, y'know? As if there's a secret rule that all dance albums must be more than an hour long, so they padded out the good stuff with endless car engine noises. Put Discovery on the list instead, you swines! It's much better.

Knowing how Daft Punk makes their music gives them a boost for me. It is generally not a style I am super into, but they do it as good as can be done usually. I do think Random Access Memories is a much better album as a whole. This should be a 3.5 or so, but I just can't bump it to a 4 star. Good album though!

This album, like daft punk, is mid

Not my style.

yeah, elektro

Da Funk isch de erst richtig "song". seeehr cool. bumpt hert. fucking geil. phoenix au huuuere cool. alles isch so punchy. around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world. banger.

I have to be in the mood for this. Good club music for sure.

Whilst absolutely appreciating the craft that has gone into this, an album that has perhaps evolved into a state that's better enjoyed as individual songs rather than cover to cover.

Some great tracks, some very long, repetitive and forgetful tracks

entertaining and interesting... can imagine enjoying it more while walking at night

Around the world the only good track

-“vintage” techno let’s go… some of the songs on here are really good while others are sort of boring. Overall has a really fun vibe though, would go so hard at a club or rave -Favorites are Phoenix, Around The World, and Alive

I like it, but I also hate it. Will I listen to again: 10%

A bit long but I enjoy Daft Punk

A lot of 90s dance music albums don't really fit this process. Not for me anyway. You need to be doing something while listening to this (preferably dancing) and even then you probably don't need the whole 74 minutes. Sitting on your couch eating your muesli in your 50s does not fit this soundtrack. At least it isn't Fatboy Slim.

Not my favorite of theirs but it's got some true bangers

Pretty slick beats, but still good for passive listening and not much suitable for active listening, esp an entire album. Favorite track: Da Funk other picks: around the world

Underwhelming. Too much looping of mediocre tracks

Revolution 909, Phoenix, and High Fidelity are the Standouts here for a genre I haven't given much attention to before.

This one takes me back to high school/college. Tons of bangers

Despite some good approaches, someone has not done all their homework.

I have learned to respect electronic music more in the last two years of running through this project, but more than an hour still looks too much. This album deserves some respect even before listening to it due to its influence on pop culture, but more than an hour of it still looked too much for me. Among all electronic bands, I think Daft Punk is among my favorites (as much as possible for a music style I usually don't enjoy), but more than an hour of it still looked too much for me. Indeed, more than an hour of it was way too much for me, but I surprisingly enjoyed it a bit. They achieved something good with this album, and as my evaluation shows, I almost didn't care about its length.

classic. love daft punk but sadly not as good as ‘Discovery’

Notable track: Around the World

# Playlist track - Da Funk # Notes - I really love Daft Punk, but I got to admit that this one is kind of a weird choice. - It makes sense in the context of some awesome electronic party going on, I guess. - But if I forget that Daft Punk made this, and this is part of them building up to RAM, this album is *not that great*. - Sure, there are a lof of cool experiments and enjoyable moments, but there's also an plenty of long stretches of lost beats and loops.

Lite tjatig emellanåt men albumet innehåller samtidigt ett par monsterhits.

3 stars

Not bad for what it is, too repetitive for my taste

Hm this is kinda weird, but I don’t hate it. “Da Funk” is certainly iconic. AND “Around the World” of course! I can see how in the 90s this could’ve been really groundbreaking. Really dislike “Rollin’ & Scratchin’” and also “Rock’n Roll” probably because of all the scratching. Sorry Daft Punk but I don’t think you’re my vibe.

Great album, some really popular songs. Probably not my favorite album of theirs though. I think that "Random Access Memories" is better. Having said that, I'm sure that I will listen to this one a bunch more.

I find it difficult to review a dance album but I did enjoy about half of the tracks here. The music is good but a bit long & repetitive. 'Around The World's being a fine example of that. Overall this would be good as background but not something you'd just sit down and listen too. 3+ Stars (9/15)

I'm guessing this was ground breaking. Sounds like they had fun in the studio playing with sounds, the production is amazing right from the start. The trouble is I don't like many of the tracks! Is it an album to dance to, or an album to listen to? For a huge hit 'Around the World' is really flat, and like a lot of the album, repetitive. One track really stands out. The incessant beat keeps pushing forward, the darker atmosphere and energy make it sound cooler than anything else here. Right near the end 'Alive' came along like a 90th minute equaliser to snatch another star :)

It is brilliant, I know that it is. I enjoyed the listen, I did. It’s hard to explain, but I just don’t see that I will listen to this album in full very often though! It demands the attention a little too much to be good background music, and sometimes feels a little too static to be an enjoyable focused listen. This was groundbreaking, but has since been surpassed (even by Daft Punk themselves). Nonetheless, super groovy and I have a lot of love for the robots 🤖 🤖 Favourite track: Da Funk

Hard to get too into this on a morning commute.

I’m sure this is 4-5 star stuff in the right context, namely intoxicated at a rave/in a club. At the gym, it’s okay. There’s nice bass work in here but this isn’t as good of a casual listen as their newer pop stuff

I love Daft Punk at their best but this is not their best. There are definitely some great tracks on here and they are a group worthy of inclusion here. Unfortunately this album is about 15 minutes too long and the last 3 tracks are bruuuuutal. Lowers it from a 4 to a 3 for me.

This is a pretty good album of electronic house music. I guess it's typical for this style that the album is long and the tracks are pretty similar...but I suppose that in the correct club environment this would be a cracking sound!

It’s fun yet repetitive. 3 stars.

Highlights: Revolution 909, Da Funk. In a nutshell: repetitive but head-boppy. Overall: 6/10

I like the “teachers” track. Lol. Just memorize that for a music history lesson or to name drop at any party to sound cool.

Honestly, hasn't aged that well but still pretty great.

Opening track got me boping. Da Funk has a great rift! Phoenix & Fresh drone on. Overall I found it too repetitive.

Overplayed

Good debut album. Shows it's age currently but a solid start for what was to come for Daft Punk.

Dinamico!

Kind of boring not gonna lie.

Daft Punk bring the funk to the EDM party. Not the album of theirs that I would have chosen, but it works just fine. Three and one-half stars. Bumped up the half-star because one of the members of Daft Punk was once photographed in an airport without his helmet, wearing a Husker Du t-shirt, which is very, very cool.

Talk about repetitive electronic music

Pretty good. Enjoyed the tracks Rollin' and Scratchin' and Rock'n Roll. Older album than I thought, from 1997. Chemical Brothers and Powell come to mind at some points.

I wanted to like this more based on the Daft Punk I've heard before, but it was just alright. They are creative, and I think we see that more on later releases, but this was fine.

Definitely exceeded expectations. I would say it reminds me of my clubbing days, but I don't remember being let in to any clubs.

This one’s tough. Found myself bobbing my head at times and then wanting to hit skip at times. Listening while doing dishes, not bad. Listening while sitting on the couch, terrible. Listening while doing yard work, great. Guess that means it’s middle of the road.

Pretty entertaining

It’s evident it’sa first album but i loved “teachers”

An important electronic act and an important album. That being said, it has a certain nature of repetitiveness that doesn't necessarily mean timeless. The boundaries and working blocks for future success are transparent.

I know these guys are legendary, and they have some really good tracks. They're one of the few electronica groups I can tolerate. But this genre is just never going to be my preference. There are quite a few good songs on here. I really enjoyed a lot of the more funk-based songs (I can't remember the names of any of them unfortunately). But there are also a lot of typical drum and bass songs that do absolutely nothing for me. There are way too many tracks on here. And why does every song have to be like 7 minutes long? How does something so annoying and grating as Around the World become one of their greatest hits? It's a rare example of a song that gets worse when lyrics are added (not that there are more words than the title). Like all electronica albums, I would only ever listen to this as background music while doing something else, and I don't really get the appeal of listening to this stuff outside the club. 3/5, would maybe round to a 3.5

Ehhh I wasn’t sold. While I do like Daft Punk, I am not a huge fan of House music. Da Funk is incredible but the rest of it kinda left me bored. 2.5/5

‘Homework’ is good, but raw, a bit repetitive. I’ve always felt it’s a bit undercooked, and overlong but there’s enough on it that makes it an essential listen. ‘Discovery’ is Daft Punk’s masterpiece for mine, however ‘Homework’ is still a nostalgic trip down memory lane that takes me back to my late teenage years, and the excitement I felt at the world of possibility before me as I approached and entered adulthood. Excitement which has long since been beaten out of me by the harsh reality of life.

Prior to Random Access Memories, this was my favorite Daft Punk album. While “Around the World” is definitely a highlight, “Da Funk” is my favorite Daft Punk track and easily one of their most underrated songs (maybe more forgotten than underrated, since this was one of their first singles, released 2 years before the album). The album feels like flipping through French house radio stations, which makes sense because Daft Punk didn’t originally intend to release all these tracks on one album. They aren’t really connected at all, but the way the songs are arranged really cements this as a cohesive album.

When it comes to French kids with synths, one will take Stereolab over these cats, who are obviously having fun, every time.

first listen in entirety. cool but not my favourite daft punk album

This album was okay. But seeing as this was Daft Punk's first album, it definitely felt a bit primitive and a LOT repetitive. And considering how long the album is, that really is a lot of repetitiveness. There's only so much of this you can take. Definitely not the best that Daft Punk has to offer. I realize this has Daft Punk's hit "Around the World" on it, but even that is incredibly repetitive. I don't disagree with Daft Punk being on this project, as they are probably one of the most mainstream recognizable house acts in music. Seeing as this is the only Daft Punk album on the project, I feel like this slot would have been better put to use on their "Discovery" or "Random Access Memories" albums. Both are definitely less repetitive and more realized albums and are ultimately better reflections of Daft Punk's impact. This album gets a very low 3 from me, because though it is horribly repetitive, the beats are bops.

While I respect the duo a lot, this really isn't that appealing to listen to. A lot of these songs are just a "press play" deal and let it sit for way too long. I get these are club/electronic songs, but it doesn't have to be so one-note. The basslines are pretty killer, though. They do have Da Funk. Just better enjoyed a song or two at a time in a more dynamic environment. Fav track: Around the World

Ok, but there is better out there.

This is à work in progress album for me. RAM is clearly thé Best album for me

club, bump, untz untz

Could just be me, but I don’t find Daft Punk as exciting or interesting as everyone makes them out to be. Their songs are often monotonous, repetitive blah. The only track I found notable on this album was Phoenix. The rest of it kind of blended together, some solid electro dance/house, some just plain boring. Maybe this was innovative in ‘97, but now it’s just pedestrian.

probably very cool to run to but when listening to it normally it gets old after a while

Another album that is a great artifact of the moment. It's great dance/club music, "Around The World" is an iconic hit of the late 90's, the duo have made their legacy in EDM. Still, hard to listen to the entire album front to back in one go (when you're not dancing), repetitive beats are good for some focus but tiring after 10 tracks.

Fresh French House.

Was hoping I would like this more. Around the World was a throwback. Not a lot of standout songs.

Loved daft punk back in the day

It's pretty cool. I like the grooves and the beats and bass lines. It's good party music but not really good driving in the car music. Some parts are kind of repetitive in an annoying way that makes me wish somebody would turn off their car alarm. Da Funk is a cool song.

This takes me back to living in my first college apartment, and to the 90s EDM/rave culture. Wacky times! I love Daft Punk, but this album as a whole is a little lacking for me. Some of the tracks feel too repetitive and go on too long (and the album itself is long), but songs like Around the World and Da Funk are classics. I enjoyed it fine, but it’s not nearly as polished and interesting as their later work. Definitely not of the same caliber as Random Access Memories, or even Discovery, but it’s a fun dance party. Get me some glow sticks!

Every song on the album is fine, the majority of them overstay their welcome. I'm happy that they refined their sound and have greatly improved since this.

I don't see the big deal. It's just house music. Well made house music but house nonetheless.

Daft Punk got better with every album, with their final opus - Random Access Memories - being an utterly brillant masterpiece. That, however, means that going back to their beginnings makes it a bit hard to appreciate the tracks. There is definitely a funky spark there, but there is just not enough variation. The album sounds a bit dated, frankly, a clear product ofthe mid 90s. It's not bad by any means, but a far cry from what was to follow. 3/5

I enjoy the production of this. Gets a bit repetitive but the arrangements are interesting

The album was 1:15 and it could've been done in 45 minutes. The beats and techniques are good and sound but the songs drag on and are very repetitive for no reason.

Surpsringly I didn’t like this album too much. What I can say is that it has all of the daft punk sounds I know and love, but it’s just not as good as what they did later on. Because of this I give it a 3/5.

Pre-robot Daft Punk, back when they were still very much house music. I remember dancing to “Around The World” at junior high dances and feeling so damn cool. BUT, most of these songs get pretty old halfway through them, especially in the second half of the album. Still, the difference between this and that Shamen album is light years apart. Yes, Daft Punk are awesome, but they didn’t get truly awesome until Discovery, in my opinion.

It was just alright imo

Around the world around the world...

Classic. Energizing. Makes you want to move.

Not bad

It's been a while since I listened to "Homework," and I found myself wondering why it's been so long. There's a lot of great, funky grooves, and Daft Punk show how deft they are at taking what could easily be an entirely too repetitive loop and using it as the backdrop for a complex musical collage. From "Daftendirekt" to "Around the World" you just kind of get lost in the beats and textures... then I got to the back half of the album and was reminded why I don't put this on. All that carefully considered composing and production from the first half gets thrown out, and the tracks seem custom made to feel like an ice pick in my brain. Just the shrillest stabs, the most clipped drum/bass sounds, and almost monolithic recordings made me want to turn this off. I suffered through and am no better for it. The first 7 tracks would be a 5 star EP, as an album, nah.

Da Funk Around the World

- Heard their second album before but not this one - Enjoyable, but overly long and incredibly repetitive - Good background music

Nice club music

When it's good it's very good but the back half especially gets repetitive and more damningly quite grating. Dance music is at its best when you can zone out and get lost the music. Rock and Roll destroyed that for me. Glad I listened but I'll still to Discovery or RAM if I'm feeling the punk.

Decent

Mchk mchk. Charming but a little monotonous.

I'm simply unable to listen to this mush of redundant computer beeps and boops for 1h 14min. Some catchy melodies of the more popular songs are at first quite pleasant, but most of the time overstay their welcome. Cannot entirely judge this album for now as I haven't listened to its entirety, but enjoy a different kind of beep boop more. So I'll give it a neutral 5,5/10

I mean its okay but more could have been

Repeatative but the beats are solid and a throwback to EDM from the 90s

Not exactly my favorite Daft Punk album. This one’s probably more suited for people who frequent techno dance clubs. Daft Punk still rocks though.

I didn't think I would like Daft Punk. I don't think I would just sit around listening to the album because I tend to like music with lyrics and more of a melody, but I thought it had good beats and would make good background music for coding, cleaning, cooking, or something along those lines.

The alive 2007 remixes are miles better. Too repetitive for its own good, but the start of something good

This was the first Daft Punk album I have listened to. Many of the pieces are catchy, but they are a bit repetitive. Did I mention that some of the pieces were a bit repetitive, in a self-repeating, repetitive kind of way. All in all, it was ok. This was the first Daft Punk album I have listened to. Not as good as I thought it would be, some of the repetitive parts were too long and didn't build towards a crescendo in the way I think they thought it did.

Hits and misses. Sounds like various versions of fight music. I could workout to some of these tracks... or I could take some E and thoroughly enjoy them. IDK.

i get why this album is important i don't hate it but i don't love it.

3.5 it’s dance music. Nobody knows if it’s good or bad. It just is.

- Started strong. Not an EDM fan, but I can see the appeal - This high wore off...multiple tracks were tough to get through. - Continually reminded me of where Daft Punk would eventually end up, but that just made me want to listen to that music instead.

Da funk back to the punk, come on Da funk back to the punk, come on Da funk back to the punk, come on Da funk back to the punk, come on Da funk back to the punk, come on Da funk back to the punk, come on Da funk back to the punk, come on Da funk back to the punk, come on This album of deep cuts from DP help me to appreciate them as true 90s deep house / French house artists. While the lower BPM compared to true house works well with the hypnotic DP style, many find the repetitive nature of many of their songs a bit hard to stomach for 5-7 minutes. DP may be one of the absolute worst perpetrators of the 3 minute house song drop lead-up - as someone mixing songs live I might appreciate that, but as someone not on MDMA with strobes blasting into my eyes, I don't. Further, after the drop they don't quite hit the requisite dark house evil serrated sound that you need for a vampire disco with blood sprinklers. When DP sticks to the funk, they shine. I often find it very difficult to place DP songs into playlists, and believe that it could be due to... huh... w-what's ha... Around the world, around world Around the world, around world Around the world, around world Around the world, around world Around the world, around world Around the world, around world Around the world, around world Around the world, around world Around the world, around world

probably goes hard at the club

this album holds up.

no thoughts just vibes

Love their music, but listening to a full album isn't my jam.

Better daft punk albums imo. This is good but seems a bit basic compared to others and maybe there is reason behind it.

This album is like “what kind of music would 70’s bots roller skate to?” It’s wacky, easily accessed like disco, totally wants flashing lights like a laser show, and might be just the thing on a cold, dull, January day. Do I find technical perfection? Nope. Do I find genius lyrics? Also nope. Can I completely get why it’s included? Yep. Is it understandably fun? Also yep.

It was fine. I don't really have the vocabulary to appreciate jazz.

Always love me some Daft Punk, and this has got some good songs on it like 'Revolution 909', 'Around the World' and 'Da Funk'. But it also has some very very bad songs like 'Rollin' & Scratchin'', 'Rock'n Roll', and a ton of songs that are quite dull or just not very exciting. This is definitely my type of genre of music, and I do think Daft Punk introduced a new sound to the genre, but there are just too many songs that aren't good for this to reach higher ratings. Has to be a 3 for me.

Catchy, different, and creative… but the track list and songs felt too long at times. Overall enjoyable but wouldn’t listen to again.

I like more mainstream Daft Punk. Listening to some of this raised my anxiety a bit.

Must try harder, better, faster and stronger.

I'm pleasantly surprised! I'm not into this genre, but this was a fairly decent example, though it feels like it's soooooo long. Standout track- Around the World.

Nicht ganz angehört, trotzdem ganz solide

I feel bad even rating this one, as I knew it was not for me.

3/5 - This was okay but nothing compared to Discovery

A high 3, it's great but feels like a prelude to the discovery album, it sounds like they're still developing their sound here.

I know a lot of tunes off this one. Some decent jams but overall it's pretty mid. Some tracks like High Fidelity and Oh Yeah are pretty grating, and Burnin' is downright obnoxious -- can't make it through it.

i gazed into the windowsphere til the trickle of funk disposed itself from my ear hole. the toe tapper's cave. i stared at the seaslime drifting in the everlapping shoreline and descended. i was smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in smothered in repetiton. i allowed the spray into my ears so it may trickle once more.

Had to skip Rollin' & Scratchin' after bit because the sound got a little too repetitive for too long, also Rock'n Roll for the same reason. Overall enjoyed some of the tracks but probably wouldn’t listen to the whole album again.

Da Funk and Around the World would be on the soundtrack of my freshman year of college, and bring back the best of memories. The rest of the album felt like a Rorschach; at first the simple repetitiveness felt like a way to free my mind in the abstract. Then with a crying baby it felt like an endless way to torture me.

I like Daft Punk but I'm not huge on house/electronic. This was a decent listen: the track list flows perfectly and I liked the thematic radio segments. And of course "Around the World" is a stone-cold banger.

A classic, I think essential album that anyone who likes music needs to listen to, as there is a lot of fun ideas and producing techniques on here. Not Daft Punk’s best work imo. Drums even for a house music album are too overdriven. Album seems to not have a ton of coherency and seems like there is some filler in there especially at beginning and end of album. This feels like a typical first album to me, lots of fun ideas, ground work to what makes Daft Punk fantastic is being layed but lacking some coherency as a full knock out album. 3.3/5.

If you like a song and it is repetitive, it is great, because you will find yourself with a sound you like on repeat. However, when you do not enjoy the sound, then the track will feel like hell. This is what happens with this Daft Punk album. "Around the World" is iconic, and some other songs bring a great tune with it. However, other songs feel like a pain in the ass. 1. Daftendirek - 1/5; works as an intro but I despise it as a stand-alone song. 2. WDPK 83.7 FM - 1/5; could have easily been part of the intro. 3. Revolution 909 - 2/5; could dance to it mid-session, but not a great feel to it. 4. Da Funk - 2/5; I am staring to feel that this album is not going to live up to the hype I was giving to it. Another good mid-session track, but nothing great about it. 5. Phoenix - 3/5; Finally some little nice touch to it! 6. Fresh - 3/5; Got my head bobbing, nice mental trip to the Summer. Uplifting mood. 7. Around the World - 5/5; Legendary. 8. Rollin' & Scratchin' - 2/5; Too repetitive with no appeal to me. 9. Teachers - 3/5; Lyrics like the outro of a reggeaton song lmao. Sounds better though. 10. High Fidelity - 2/5; I am liking this approach more, it's groovier. I need a twist in structure at some point. 11. Rock'n Roll - 1/5; nah this ain't it. Painful. 12. Oh Yeah - 2/5; unimpressed. 13. Burnin' - 3/5; niiiiiiiice. 14. Indo Silver Club - 3/5; repetitive, but I felt it. I am enthusiastic about the end of the album. 15. Alive - 2/5; not much to add about. 16. Funk Ad - 1/5; unneeded. Total sum: 36/80. Average: 2.25/5. Overall sensation: 3/5. Expected Marc rating: 2/5.

Class album very funky but bit repetitive

First reaction: oooh! I've never listened to this in full! During listening: oh wow, this is a much longer album than I anticipated. Great beats. The transitions between songs are really smooth. Around the world and da funk are familiar. After listening: for me, this feels more like a dj set than an album. I find it a bit monotonous at times and I'm not sure I would actively listen again. This went on for a long time. Research notes: this was their first studio album. They gave their demo to their first record label at a rave at eurodisney which feels very French

Genre: House Instruments: 3/5 Modern Translation: 4/5 Dance Potential: 2/5 Listening Location: woodworking in the garage Favourite Song: Around the World Made me feel: Enthusiastic and irritable. Respect the artists for doing something different in 1997 but the songs are so long and get repetitive! Around the World is a classic but don’t feel like I could dance to any of the others.

Christmas 97 - I bought this album for my brother. Unsure exactly why, but it was a hit and got a lot of spins. I like some techno/dance as background work music, but I don’t think they’re great for sitting down and listening too.

Debut album from Daft Punk, first listen to this group. This has a lot of really crisp, great sounds, but it's a challenge for me to listen to this as I realize this is simpler in a sense that it's not as structured like a typical pop song - it's linear in that it introduces a theme and repeats variations on that theme and moves you through a sonic landscape, all on a good dance beat. Based on what I've read, this wasn't really intended to be an album but they had enough material to make one, and sequenced it to have the best flow. it does have a flow but seems to make up for its lack of complexity with a really good beat, a good hook to anchor, and fun sounds to take you through. Da Funk is fun, Around the World has a good groove but the vocal mantra was getting a bit tired for me. I'd have to pick Alive as my favorite (although hearing the thumping beat for 2 minutes before more structure came in also was a bit much).

I get that it was foundational but I just don't like it

Its a pretty good album, not anything incredible but it passes the time.

Decent enough but not totally my style. I much prefer RAM

You can't deny the mixing of these French robots. This is such an easy album to sit back and listen to. There's no poetry or meaning but for the feeling of music, they crush it. The second half of the album loses me a bit vs the first half.

As an album it works as one thing but there is so much on here that I would never listen to repeatedly. The hits pop and rise to the top when all is said and done.

This album was the enormously successful debut from the pair of French producers. They produced the tracks as singles, and compiled the album after a two of the singles met with commercial success. The album contains a few of Daft Punk's hits, like "Da Funk" and "Around the World." These tracks have become classics of French house music and post-disco. These tracks are simple, catchy dance tracks with widespread appeal. With this album, Daft Punk help propel the commercial success of dance music. The album is less consistent that DP's later efforts. Some track are so minimal that they approach "repetitive to boring" in segments - for example "Rock n Roll."

I have never really been much into Daft Punk, I find them a bit too repetitive and lack the progression in the songs I enjoy from other EDM. This hasn’t changed my opinion. Listens: 2 Fave Track: Daftendirekt Rating: 3

its good, but they became better

I like it, but every song feels repetitive. Unlike some of the other albums I've rated, this might be especially good for listening while working, but unfortunately I wasn't working today.

It's good, kinda forgot that it has quite a lot of annoying songs on it though.

Not listened in full need to go back one day

Few songs stand out otherwise its like a demo tape of great house beats that don't change enough. Definitely early daft punk.

Classic, iconic and not as good as I remembered. A lot of good ideas, but the execution feels a bit rough and repetitive. Polishing it, however, would probably subtract from its energy. A Gordian knot, really. 3.2

Fun. Da Funk and Around the World are great, but the other songs didn’t grab me.

This is definitely a high-quality album. It had novel ideas for the time; the tracks are varied and not too long, and all the pieces just fit together nicely ... but it is still just club music. I can't really explain why Daft Punk became such a cultural phenomenon. Maybe people just needed to unwind from listening to Radiohead and Nirvana.

I don’t normally like to listen to this genre of music, but I didn’t hate this. It made me feel super productive, and even though it was over an hour long, it felt very short.

1) not sure if I got brain poisoned by reading about them being French or if this album actually sounds very French 2) about six songs too long 3) heavily front loaded, back half faltered between Around the World and the final track 2.5

Daft Punk are one of my favourite acts, and they have put out so many albums I consider to be fucking brilliant. Despite this, I've never properly enjoyed this one. I can see how this album needed to happen to pave the way for the rest but the strict house-ness doesn't quite hit for me. I am a huge fan of the sounds that they've managed to create here though. The crunchy punchy noises throughout are a joy. Overall, not an album I'd put on but I can enjoy it to a degree. Standout Track: Da Funk

Need to listen too again

It makes sense it’s their first album because it has a good amount of room for improvement. But having said that it’s still a great album, but later daft punk stuff just hits different. This album is super repetitive (in a good and bad way). I’m happy giving it a 3.

A solid debut album, but nothing particularly memorable. This was definitely a sign of things to come for DP, though.

All the parts are here but they have yet to become whole

I honestly didn’t know they’d been together since the 90’s. EDM is not my vibe but they are the best of this genre.

Strong start, too long

Daft Punk's epic rave debut album. Lekker party vibes.

I did pretty much enjoy this album quite a bit, but I'm a little upset that they have this album, but not Discovery :(. This album does fall off a bit after Around the World in my opinion, but it's pretty good. (I found the acid synths in the latter half to be way too loudly mixed and annoying).

Could be higher but songs all go on too long. If it wasn't daft punk would probably score it less. 4.5/10

Good. Discovery better.

Oops, I was expecting Discovery. Homework is not on Discovery's level. Around The World is great. It's got a really good groove. I'm not a fan of Rollin' and Scratchin' nor Rock'n Roll. I really dislike that scratching sound.

I don't know that I'll come back to this but it was great background music for work. I enjoyed it.

Classic tracks abound on this album, such was the way of Daft Punk, RIP. When Around the World comes on, you can pretty much guarantee there's at least one person within ear shot that has mentally teleported to a discotech and is jamming out like it's the late 90s. It's basically the same effect for the 70s as when anything Earth, Wind, and Fire, or the Bee Gees come on. It doesn't matter if you like the music or not, as it ascends the conscious brain functions and simulates directly to the motor cortex. I clearly enjoy this album, but it's not flawless. There are a few tracks that seem to linger on a little too long, where my brain says, “okay, I've heard that same pattern for 30 seconds too long, please end now.” If only those tracks, like Daftendirekt, added just a little more variety , an extra bridge or something, this album would transcend to the next level for me. The album was clearly designed with remixes in mind because there is often a slow build up of instruments, perfect for other DJs to grab samples and beat match tracks together.

OK. Approaching modern techno. Very repetitive.

Around the world, den gode elektroniske pop, lidt for rocket til tider måske

Definitely a stepping stone for better things. Way too repetitive and once you've heard a couple of tracks, you kinda know how all the others are going to be.

Decent beats and obviously a distinct sound - as an album front-to-back though it didn't really hit a climax

I feel like I should like this more than I do because of how influential it was.

Ok. Daft Punk's first album. Can't say I listen to them too much. Should be fun! After listening to it, I realized why I don't listen to Daft Punk all that often. After an hour and change, all the music starts to get very repetitive. Samples that repeat the same phrase 20 times over a four minute song gets to be a little grating. Some of the songs are undeniably great. The samples and drums they used are really good. For this to be their first album is pretty telling of the great music they were able to make on later records. But overall, an album of pure electronic music just isn't for me.

I genuinely think it’s cool that every Daft Punk record is different and yet still very “daft punk”. I’m a Discovery person, but this one has some highs - but overall it’s a lot of repetitive, near minimal stuff that doesn’t really do it for me. I like minimal/micro house/techno and a lot of the 70s synth stuff they are playing off here, but knowing where they’d go, a lot of it seems pretty half baked.

the singles off this album are great, but Discovery really crushes this outing comparitively so. not bad, just too bloated.

The hits are great but the rest is boring to annoying

Do I love every second of it? No. Is this the turning point for house music in the late nineties and did it pave the way for the creation of amazing albums? Yes. They say "Around the World" 144 times.

"Around the world, around the world / Around the world, around the world / Around the world, around the world / Around the world, around the world" I was initially pretty excited for this record, because I really enjoy daft punk songs, and I expected a lot more songs to include lyrics. I was pretty disappointed in the album after the first half. T3- "Revolution 909", T4 - "Da Funk", and T7- "Around the world" (playlist) were all really good tracks, but basically the entire rest of the album felt like noise. T8- "Rollin' & Scratchin'" was particularly hard to get through. I'm disappointed with this record, but it still had a lot to offer, and showed real potential in the duo. 3/5

Starts strong but falls off hard after around the world - hasn’t aged well. If it weren’t for da funk and around the world this album would be a 2

Not my style of music, but I appreciate how refined this album is.

uendeligt album

It's funny how the 90s high tech music sounds now when this tech is no more high.

3.5 stars. Pretty catchy French House debut album. Standouts are "Around the World" and "Da Funk".

Not great all the way through..
