Reviews (page 8 of 10)

Skipped through most of this. Fun beats but way too repetitive for me. Sorry z

It's unbelievable how long and boring this album is. I've always known Daft Punk as a dynamic and danceable electro-pop band—spacey, witty, and with a certain tongue-in-cheek attitude, even when their eyes are hidden behind those futuristic helmets. But this Daft Punk album is nothing. Take away the truly great "Around The World," and all that's left is utterly tedious garbage. As a fan of electronic music, both danceable and ambient, and especially of the Berlin School sound, I can only say this album is rubbish, regardless of what other reviews claim. The song "Around The World" is great, though.

This is starting off v funny. Hit Da Funk and feeling a little more up my alley. And now we are starting to get a little too repetitive for my taste. I can see how this would have been very different at the time. I'm surprised to say I'm not going to save this one. I know "techno" is my genre, but I think it's just not got the grit I normally go for. It's not angry enough :D

I feel like I am listening to the z103.5 drive at 5 street mix. Not my fave, but there are some classics, though I am used to hearing much shorter versions of them when they're being mixed. Other notes: - Around the World is so much longer than I realized - Rock n Roll hurt my brain, and I hope to never hear it again - This whole album makes me feel like I'm in space in the 90s - Alive had me nodding my head a bit Easy listening, but overall not quite my tempo (iykyk). 2.5

album was underwhlming I didn't love it

Música de homem modeRRno, diferenciado. Fiquei trabalhando balançando a cabeça aqui. Chegou uma hora que ficou muito loucura, nem consegui me concentrar. Não é música pra ficar ouvindo de boa em casa, talvez na academia ou em baladinha mesmo. 2* pela estética e não combinar com meu estilo.

Not my type of music

Not my preferred Daft Punk era...

Da Funk is insane. i like Phoenix. Around the World has grown on me. most of the other 80% of the album (standard release) is generically rhythmic fluff

Daftendirekt - 2 Wdpk 83.7 fm - n/a Revolution 909 - 2 Da funk - 4 Phoenix - 1 Fresh - 2 Around the world - 3 Rollin' & scratchin' - 1 Teachers - 1 High fidelity - 1 Rock'n roll - 1 Oh yeah - 3 Burnin' - 1 Indo silver club - 1 Alive - 3 Funk ad - n/a

Just never got the appeal of this lot and this didn’t change my mind. Was quite happy when it was over - eventually!

Electronic music just isn't my thing, I feel like so much of it is too repetitive. I had some hopes for this album, because I like a lot of Daft Punk's songs (mostly from 'Random Access Memories'), but I'm afraid that a full album is still too much and that it got boring after a while. I liked "Around the World" and "Da Funk".

Can be quite annoying. I have to say I did not like it

very redundant, maybe good for the club but not to just listen to.

I appreciate but can’t tolerate the repetition.

Lost the half-review I wrote last week. This is just not my kind of music. Its good for what it is, but insanely repetitive drum and bass kicking in my headphones gives me a headache, not enjoyment. If I liked this sort of thing it'd be a 4/5, for me personally 2/5. Wrong audience.

Exhausting.

this needed an editor to cut the runtime by half

Expecting better

Not my thing

It made me tired

Under the right conditions sure, but generally this music doesn’t do it for me.

I listened to the first few tracks and it was le boring

I thought I quite liked Daft Punk... This album almost persuaded me otherwise...

I hate to say it, but this was a little TOO daft and not enough punk.

Bits are fun but it’s very repetitive

I liked a couple of songs on here, but the album as a whole got pretty tedious pretty quickly. It's too brash to be good background or relaxing music and it's not fun enough to make me want to move around. A disappointing no-man's land of an album.

skipped the first song after looking @ lyrics I LOVE A GOOD BLENDING INTO THE NEXT SONNGGGGG revolution 909 sounds like at universal studios the fast and furious part of the studio tour and ur like listening to the party from afar. love it. WAIT WHY THIS KINDA BOOGY MAKING ME GROOOOOVE sooooo glad that daft punk left the challengers soundtrack to trent reznor and atticus ross. this album gives me a headache and is definitely no cure for the sunday scaries. turn ts off. however i would however love if i was older and enjoyed clubbing bc then i may enjoy this.

Again, I have to respect it for what it is, but my goodness I couldn’t wait for this to be over. I felt like I was under attack.

Thought this would be cooler and less annoying

Too shiny for me. And too precise

Pretty disappointed with this one. I had high hopes because I listened to Discovery for the first time recently, and I know I can’t fault for making one of the greatest albums of all time and their debut album not be able to live up to that, but it certainly set the bar high. Repetition is fine if the music is interesting or at least pleasing to the ear. Much of the album was not. Around the World was great though.

Unless you are at dur club, I don't really know who this album is for. Around the world is a great tune if you've had the assistance of some 3rd party substances. But in the car or having a cup of tea, its pretty meh and same same. We get it, around the world. And the rest, just loops of the same drum beat. And that Rollin and Scatchin song has to be one of the worst tunes ever made. Its like they put a drum loop behind my 2001 56k modem as it tries to download LinkinParkAndLimpBizkitLiveHiddenTrack.mp3.exe from limewire.

Each song removed one star. When I reached 1 star, the monotonous beats made me so dumb that I couldn't count anymore. But eventually I have become so dumb, so that I liked oh yeah and burnin .....star star

Well, this was actually annoying. One ok track, the rest just needed to stop.

Not my thing...

p812. 1997. 2 stars. Well produced but tedious 90s electro/dance music. Background music for nightclub scenes in any post 2000 B movie.

Ahhh… none of their good stuff on here I’m afraid.

Repetitive but catchy

To paraphrase LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk is not Playing At My House - too much repetition

Got off to a good start but needed to stop after 45 mins. Became repetitive. Better than Serge though

Was feeling proud of myself for enduring the monotonous repetition of that awful stars on 45 drumbeat from the 80s. But after the opening 90 seconds of kick drum sample on Rollin' & Scratchin' I couldn't take any more. Life is too short.

I like some Daft Punk songs but didn’t really enjoy this, it felt like a lot of the other electronic albums on this list. Also I never really liked Around the World.

This one was a slog, as someone that doesn't like Daft Punk's best albums all that much. It's so repeaty, especially in the last few songs. Do not want. 2/5

I can’t understand why anyone would seek this out.

2 out of 5. I remembered a couple songs came from this album but it didn't do much for me overall.

This would be great in a club. Less so when I'm just sitting at my computer. It kinda gives you a headache after a bit.

Let the fun in the clown car 🤡 Fresh 🌊 Around the world

Can’t say I’ve ever listened to a daft punk album before this. Not in a rush to again. Overly long, surprisingly heavy with filler tracks and sounding quite dated. A far harder pass than I was anticipating.

All the tracks build up and off of the standout hits you've heard on the radio, heck you can hear parts of da funk in the opener. And that's about where the cleverness of this album ends. Rock n roll is an abrasive repetitive slog that lasted 5 minutes too long. And now that I am about 3/4 through, the entire thing is just too long.

Just not for me. Couple of decent tracks but mostly too much and a bit anxiety inducing

I understand why this album is on this list, but as far as listening experience is concerned, this one was hard to get through. Best Track: Around the World

Honestly thought I’d like it much more than I did. Just found it a bit boring, repetitive, and headachey

I kinda get it, but it's just not for me.

This really feels like more of a collection of musical ideas rather than a full fledged album. I get it, this is house music and that's the point and maybe I would enjoy it more if I was out dancing but that still doesn't mean that I have to enjoy it on a Tuesday morning sipping coffee.

I get that these guys are good but they're not for me.

It’s impossible to listen to this in full while seating in a sofa. The sound is great and I can see why it’s fantastic for a dance floor, but it’s sooooo repetitive! Long live Daft Punk, though.

If you’re not dancing, it gets boring and repetitive fast. Still, Da Funk repetitive as it is it's really good. .

Like individual tracks but an album is too much

I dunno what to do with albums like this. The beats and sound effects are creative, but it’s “meta-music” — no one is actually playing those drums. The music is designed to facilitate group experiences, in a rave setting. As a result, it’s simple and repetitive. Not really something to sit around listening to. I’ll give it a 2 — even though I can’t get through an entire album of it as a pure listening exercise.

Hmmm thought I already had this on the list, somehow but maybe listened to it after seeing their documentary 🤔 73 minutes?! That’s brave. Let’s see… It just felt kinda basic. Just repetitive loops with layering. Quite like the inbetween tracks and introduction of environment and atmos. But just not so impressed with the songwriting at all. Pretty uninspiring and unskilled. I also want to acknowledge it’s importance as an album, of its time and important for EDM but 1997 doesn’t limit its possibility to THIS, right? Wrote the above when I thought I was on the last few tracks and realised there were actually still 6 left and now I’m just getting annoyed at the cheek of it and the maddening empty repetition.

A parte i singoli di successo il nulla

It’s fine. Just boring. Not really my thing. I didn’t finish the album.

One Daft Punk song? Good. Maybe a little repetitive. An album? ...no thanks.

Daft cunt. Some of the sounds have so much stonk you can taste it but the tracks are devoid of any emotion. More of a technical achievement than an artistic one.

Album 18/1001 Daft, yes. Punk? No. Favourite song: Da Funk 🕺 Honourable mention; Rock'n Roll 🎸 Rollin' & Scratchin" 👇💽 Alive 🙌

I’m sure at its release time it was mind blowing. I just couldn’t get into it today.

I'm sure fans of the genre could educate me about why this is an important and worthwhile album. But as an outsider, I can't hear anything but background music during a club scene in a bad movie. It may be good (or it may not be… I don't really know how I'd tell the difference), but I don't particularly enjoy listening to it. Not gonna lie, I found myself wanting it to be over about half way through. 2/5 Highlights: Da Funk Rock'n Roll

Anything but mind-blowing. Relic of the past at this point.

Me gustan más los álbumes posteriores de Daft Punk. Me parece un poco música de tienda de ropa con algunos destellos puntuales.

No electronic music should be in this list. This is no exception and I really like daft punk but not for this

Im not really into daft punk and this album is no different. Its unbearably long and loses steam after the first few songs. Around the World is great but apart from theres not much substance here. 5/10 Favourite: Around the World Least Favourite: Oh Yeah

It’s very long and I don’t think it really earns that length. Party albums typically are long and don’t make great listening experiences when listened to from front to back and are full of very long songs to dance to for a long amount of time. There are a few great moments, but the album’s length knocks it down from a 3 to a 2 for me. I have heard great things about later Daft Punk albums, so maybe I’ll check those out. 2/5

I didn’t hate it as much as I usually hate club music but it was still awful. Every beat goes on juuuuust long enough to be irritating before changing a bit and then that beat goes on too long and so on. Cuz everything in half and it might be decent.

This would be great music in a club venue. It’s not that fun to just listen to though.

Very repetitive, but has some good tracks. High 2/5.

Party pop music. Dragged a bit after half an hour of the same beat.

a little bit of this a little bit of that ass on a serious note, it's a really well produced album and very good, I just wouldn't be caught dead listening to something without lyrics

Heard it before. Da Funk and Around the World are massive bangers but I don't know how it feel about the rest. Meh? 2/5

Went on far too long. Not for me

When the mood takes me, I can really enjoy Daft Punk, especially their later stuff. Unfortunately, the mood left me pretty much where I was for this listening and I found it fairly plodding. I suppose it paved the way for what was to come but this one doesn’t really do it for me.

I think of myself as someone who likes daft punk, but maybe I'm just someone who likes discovery and a few songs off RAM, because this was not a fun listen for me

Beats arent too bad, but it is very long and repetititve Standout song: Burnin'

Good for the club but not for casual listening. Obviously some bangers on there but still

Some good, some just sounds like 90s dial up Internet

Many enjoyable tracks but was on wrong mood with this album. After few drinks and speakers pumping loud I would value this more. Even notably more.

Not something I enjoy listening to at home. Club music for very specific situations.

Listenable in the gym but wouldn't listen to it in any other context. Probably a 2.5.

If that’s the homework I don’t think they were listening in school If I did exercise I would probably listen to it but it is so repetitive but just feels like a few fellas pressing keys on some editing software. I think even I could make this sort of music just as good A 2 because there’s a couple of good bits

There are a couple of iconic melodies buried in here somewhere. But honestly? It’s mostly just a drum machine looping for what feels like six hours. At times it’s less “groundbreaking electronic album” and more “two teenage boys pissing about with a Casio keyboard they got for Christmas.” It’s so relentlessly repetitive and vacuous that at one point I started to wonder if the album was just stuck. Probably tolerable as background noise while mashed and playing Pro Evo, provided you don’t focus too hard and you just let it slip quietly into the wallpaper of your brain. I’d enjoy a solid minute or two. Rounded up to two stars for the influence and a couple of good moments, but I’m not doing any more "homework" on this.

Pretty darn repetitive meant never found amazing hits.

Favorites: Revolution 909, Da Funk, Around the World I'm not sure what happened on this listen. I used to love this album, but I found myself quite irritated revisiting it. Homework is fairly primitive in Daft Punk standards, and it's far from their most innovative or even interesting.

Validating to see from the global reviews I’m not alone in my opinion here. Bonus Star for “Da Funk” and “Rollin’ & Scratchin’”

I'm a cool guy hacker in the 90s. Started fine. turned into torture. Not gonna move to France anytime soon.

I will always maintain that it takes talent to make music of any style. But the more of this genre I listen to, the less I like it.

Did not work for me; too repetitive; not very clever.

Seems like good dance music, but to just sit and listen is irritating at times. Lots of repetitive vocal samples. 2.5*, rounding down.

Probably good, need to listen again properly really. Some very enjoyable songs mixed with some not so enjoyable ones. (Great review Lara lol - go listen again!)

trop répétitif et pas assez mélodieux

Okay so obviously around the world banger! Da funk yes but the rest of it… BUT I LOVE INTERSTELLA 555 so dont judge

Okay as background music or in TV ads but kinda torturous as something I have to hear in one sitting.

Kinda boring after the first few songs (which admittedly were some good club hits). Or, to be more exact, it got repetitive

started off fun but then the novelty wore off

Not my usual type of music but a nice change from all the 70s/80s rock in this generator. I felt out of place listening to this at my office/lab job but I think I would enjoy it at a rave. The length got to me a bit and I’d rank it 3/5 if it were under an hour

This is probably good if you're high, this ain't the music for focused work

Couple of fun songs, and an hour of backing beats for real songs. No need to listen to this again

Couple cool tunes but overall too long and repetitive

Not my cup of house.

Day520 - i don’t know who can just listen to this. maybe it’s good for the club or a party

I really wanted to like this. I like the whole idea of Daft Punk and the music first identity last philosophy. But some of this was just plain boring. Rarely do I find myself needing a break while listening, but that happened on this record.

Very weird few songs, but apart from that, quite nice.

I’m not coked out enough to really dig this. Daft Punk could’ve used some creative control.

Far more interesting than anticipated. Great beats, excellent production, but also very dynamic in its tracks. Halfway through the record hits a dip though, Rollin' and Scratchin', Teachers, High Fidelity are just boring, and the record never fully recovers. The second half misses the energy of the first, perhaps because the record is too long as well.

If this is what technology has gotten us, give me a dusty acoustic guitar and a shitty sounding harmonica, because in the wrong hands this is the result. To call this a difficult listen is an under statement, it wasn't hard to listen to, but it was difficult to hear the same thing over and over and over again. This was a test of endurance, where repetition is used to test the will and sanity of the listener, not unlike torture. Clearly, it might have had a different effect, if I was stoned, drunk and f*cked out of my head at a club or rave at 4 in the morning. Unfortunately, I don't listen to my music often enough that way.

I have often been given the impression that I would like these, although I've never heard any of their music before. And I can sort of see why, but unfortunately not. They just don't have the je ne sais quoi of, say, Ozric Tentacles or The Enid. Sorry, not for me, but better than a 1. So 2 it is.

# 475 : 07/05/2025 : Homework I don't hate it. I found it utter rubbish, with no talent and with no reason for existence. I thought it was very ordinary, and way too long to listen to repetitive tippy tappy plinky plonky noises that go round and round for over an hour without any progression, theme or meaning. There was a couple of catchy tunes. but after the first minute of the track, you are like, next please.

Too repetitive / not enough drugs

Tried to enjoy this but felt like I was in a terrible bar in hackney wick dying for some lyrics. Obviously enjoyed around the world because I'm basic

I don’t get it. It’s cool dance music. But listening to an album of this? Cruel and unusual.

Not my thing. I feel like a lot of the music that I find annoying - and which is far more pervasive now than in 1997 - can be traced back to this. And yet that bassline in Around the World (which I have certainly heard before) is about the greatest thing ever.

Made it about 30 minutes in before I tapped out. That Rollin & Scratchin song gave me headache, and then I saw there was still another 45 minutes more to go. Fuck that. How come every god damn techno album has to be over an hour? These fucking songs are repetitive enough as is. Maybe you need be to high ass hell on Molly to make this shit enjoyable 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not for me.

i am not into this kind of music and yet this list continues to have such albums on this list.

I don’t mind this music but this is the kind of music only listened to at a bar, club, or as background at a party.

When I saw this pop up I wondered if we needed another Daft Punk album on this list. We do not, especially one this long

Not for me

1. daft - 1.5 2. fm - 0 3. revolution - 2 4. funk - 1.5 5. phoeniz - 1 6. frezh - 1.5 7. uuorld - 3 8. rolling - 1.5 9. teacherz - 1 10. fidelity - 1 11. roll - 0 12. yeah - 0 13. burning - 0 14. zilver - 1 15. alive - 1 16. ad - 1.5

68/1001 - Lots of TR-909 and repetition on this one. I heard Discovery and RAM are better albums from them and I'll give them a listen. Burnin' was kinda cool and saved it from a 1. I listened to Discovery and found it much better, probably a 4 or a 5.

Sounds like two printers fucking Edit: (02/02/26) I went back and listened to Discovery and Random Access Memories, MUCH better albums that made me like Daft Punk. Don't judge them based on Homework. Changing from a 1 star to a 2 star ranking because I like their other work.

'Da Funk' reminds me too much of being 17 and sneaking out of boarding school to go get fucked up at the local dance club, even though I detested the music but loved the drugs and alcohol. And then of being bombarded by 'All around the world' any time I was around people. It felt inescapable and still nearly 30 years later causes some sort of post traumatic stress. Besides all that, I can say that I appreciate the musicality of all this, but I have grown to become a big fan of repetition as a concept, in music in art or in life. And of great big thwomping beats that may induce headaches or nausea if played loud enough.

Pretty bad. I hate that whenever Daft Punk comes up in casual conversation, someone always needs to bring up Homework, as if it’s like an obscure, early work of Daft Punk that is really amazing. Yeah I’ve heard Homework, and Around the World is 7 minutes long, asshole.

Oh my! I really like the last album they did together - Random Access Memories but jeez this one is a struggle, it’s so repetitive! At one point I had to tell the person with me why I was listening to it and I was sorry they had to endure it. Again? No thanks.

The bangers still bang, but too much filler and it gets lonely and boring long before the end. Definitely lived up to its title.

This was sort of the background music to my day at work driving through rain that decided to turn into snow. It wasn't a bad thing on in the background I guess but not sure I'd put it on more or probably ever again. It sure went on for along time too

AROUND THE WORLD AROUND THE WORLD

Not for me

The first minute is good... maybe I could go 2. After that, it's drugs or nothing.

средне

I actually think India has a point on this one. Bit too heavy on the robot sound-effects for me. Dare I say it... it's a bit boring? Some classics on there though, 'Around the World' and 'Da Funk' being the obvious good ones.

Rolling into work on a Thursday is not the way to listen to this album. Also hasn't aged well for a club night. Aptly named homework as sounds like a homework project for a year 9 music student. I could see myself dancing daftly to this, a little ironically; your dad after a few beers and you've taken him to a 90s nostalgia night. Is that the intention? Around the world and Da Funk are okay, but you're bound to switch it off eventually lest you're launched into a dystopian world where everything is infinitely looped.

Inte min bag

Super repetitive songs.

Great music for clubbing, which I don’t like. Terrible music for couch surfing, which I thoroughly enjoy. Each track sounds like they had one really good idea, but decided to exhaust that idea for 7-8 minutes until they were sure that everyone was annoyed

A few good funky moments but mostly repetitive filter sweeps that sound like a DAWless jammer with a Behringer 303 knockoff. How many times can I hear “around the world” in three minutes?

Each song repeats the same lyric over the same beat over and over again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Stand-out: Da Funk

Repetitive, annoying. A few songs were okay.

Mostly annoying music

Its like I'm at an electrics festival on psychedelics... As a whole the albums was starting to give me a headache. Did however enjoy the one classic on there "Around the World".

Ehhh. So I like the songs that I’ve heard before but every other song is so repetitive and like…boilerplate. Why wasn’t there 2001 album chosen. This is just so blegh. A lot of the electronic albums feel like that on this list.

On one hand there's not enough dance music on the list. On the other, this is too monotonous. There's only a few highlights. Favorite song: da funk

I can always appreciate an aptly named product, fuck that was a bore. Not to mention annoying af. Teachers hit tho I won’t lie

Love me some Daft Punk, but this album ain't it. Never really dove into early stuff but this is just some house that I really can't get into. There were some songs on here that straight up gave me a headache. Looking at you Rock n' Roll, that song needs to be deleted from the catalog. Da Funk and Around the World still are great. But the album as a whole was not very great

Has this album when it came out; really only ever listened to a handful of tracks when I owned it. It’s not terrible, but I’ll likely not revisit it-I’d give it 1.5 stars if it was possible.

I’m sure their sound is different and interesting, but it was just too repetitive for me.

I think stone cold sober isn’t the way to enjoy this album.

I don’t hate techno, but a full hour plus album of it is too much for me. If I were at a party or a rave, then I could appreciate it more, but just listening to this while I work and commute is enough to drive me mad. And ‘Teachers’ is especially terrible - let’s just read a list of names of our influences? No thanks.

Not really my style, but fine.

Ahhh man 1 hour 15 of house music??? I mean ya I guess if I was gettin down and dirty in the club in the mid 2000s. I’m sure this was pretty wild in 1996 but listening to a whole album was pretty brutal.

I thought it was fine. There were nuggets that were stuck in my head, but it was too long and conceptual for me in general. I really like the idea of Daft Punk, but this album wasn’t exactly my speed.

I've learned there's a handful of Daft Punk songs I like, and many that I do not.

I had this on cassette back in the day, and I thought it was generally a pretty weak, repetitive record except for a handful of songs. I haven't changed my opinion 27 years later. It feels like they are still very much finding their feet at this point in their career. Favourite tracks: Da Funk, Around the World, Rock'n Roll.

Daft Punk certainly redefined what electronic music can be, but their first outing is rife with the usual drum loops and repetitive notes that are found on so many electronic albums of the era.

Not as annoying as other electronic albums but still fucking annoying.

Prefer Alive 97, struggled to get through this.

- interessante, kreative Beats dabei - zum Start vieler Songs oft gedacht "was ein geiler Beat" - driftet dann aber leider doch oft ins Eintönige ab

Listened on couch reading “how to write an autobiographical novel”, saved a few songs

A lil dull I have to admit. Give me the Tron soundtrack any day.

Is anyone else dizzy from this or is it just me

This album is fine but to have this and not have Discovery or Random Access Memories (yes I checked the full list) is inexcusable to the point of considering stopping

Better than I expected but there’s better daft punk out there

Conveniently named album for how I felt about this album!!! Tbh daft punk are just not the robots for me but it was okay

If I were playing WipEout I would dig it. But I am not. But maybe I should? Hm.

I usually love Daft Punk, but this album is not it. It feels like they were still trying to figure out their sound. Honestly, it just seems like a weaker version of \"Discovery.\" There are a few good moments, but overall, it's not as great as their later stuff. 2.5

Lost Season 6 was the "sideways" season - 2 different but parallel paths/lives for each of the characters.... Path 1: This album is so painfully and terribly repetitive in every track that it feels like cheating - how is it entertaining or innovative simply coming up with 2 measures of an electronic loop, then ever-so-gently rotating that resonance filter on the analog synth while repeating some 3 word phrase, rinse and repeat for 4-5 minutes. Next song - same formula. Path 2: This album is so great to work to - it doesn't follow any pop/rock formula in terms of song structure, it's entirely about the vibe and feel - don't focus on any one segment but instead just let it all wash over and around you and the synth sounds melding with driving beats are compelling. Resolve: While many of the songs ("songs") have something in it that sounds awesome ... none of the songs go anywhere. And yeah that might be the point and I might be cool listening to this as background while i'm working on something that weirdly requires concentration because even as some tracks are abrasive as hell....it's oddly not memorable. e.g. background noise. Notable awful exceptions that ruined the vibe: "Around the World" is not just repetitive but I couldn't get through it. "Rollin' & Scratchin'" I couldn't get past a minute - terribly annoying. I slid down the scale gradually as the album went on and while I started near a 4 by the time I got to track 9 I was heavily debating a 1. I'll cut myself off right here (i.e. we have another DNF), give 'er a 2 for not my taste at all, and not revisit. 3/10 2 stars.

I didn't like this album - I didn't finish it because it is very difficult to work while listening to a 7 minute long song called Rollin & Scratchin (featuring a lot of scratch sounds). Electronic music really isn't my thing unfortunately

I think daft punk is severely overrated. I don’t like their music

Not really an album to sit down and listen to.

Top tunes: Da funk, around the world. This album thinks its the wall. Sadly, its not. Way tooooo long man. Really disappointed with my first album of daft punk. couple of really good songs but the length and reptitiveness just kills it. You need to be off your face and in the club to enjoy this one.

I tried listening to the album. I found it quite interesting at first. Then Around the World was the end. The constant and monotonous repetitions got on my nerves. I then abandoned the album. 2/5

Based on “Da Funk” and the fact that this duo maintained popularity for a fairly long time, I figured there was a chance that this album would be really good. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Maybe if I heard this in a left bank club in the 90s I would have more sympathy, but that’s not what happened.

They've honestly grown on me and I've gained more appreciation for them than I've ever had. The stuff on here I like the most, I think is legitimately very cool. But a lot of it still doesn't do much (if anything) for me, some of the songs are way too long, and the album as a whole is too long. 2.5/5

one or two bangers on here. There rest was meh.

Fine as background music but too repetitive to actually listen to. Not sure I actually needed to listen to this before I die.

This was fine. Not a big fan of house music but it was okay.

I have no soft spot for Daft punk or euro step or edm. Is this good, I dont know. Some of it was repetitive as shit.

Too much house

Ikke lige min musikstil. Around the World er det bedste nummer, synes jeg.

The hits hit good, the rest is terrible filler that no one listens to

Well I listened to the wrong Daft Punk record the first go round which felt like some kind of bad karma. This debut is repetitive, boring and annoying. Yet somehow I was tapping my foot to the beat. Damn you French Robots!

Too monotonous -- boring

I'm just not a fan of electronica/house music. "Around the World" is ok, but the rest of the tracks are monotonous.

#238. Another one probably better experienced at a show than listened to straight through. 2/5: around the world

This was good but just too long for me 😔

few of these songs i just couldn't Do

Around the world. Around the world. Around the world. Around the world. Around the world. Around the world. Around the world. Around the world. Around the world.

Not bad for a debut, but I just haven’t enjoyed any of the electronic albums I’ve heard so far.

Wow I'm amazed by how little enjoyed this. I see in their bio that they shifted from "French House Pioneers" to "Dance Tastemakers", and I gotta imagine it's the latter Daft Punk that probably resonates more with me. House music, or at least this house music, is boring as all hell.

I thought this album would have this sonicaly grandiose, full sound to it. But it doesn't. My biggest issue with dance, trap, house, or electronic music is that they have fade outs. You're telling me that this repetitive part that went on for 5 minutes to just end with a fade out? That this song could have been 4 minutes shorter, and I wouldn't not have missed anything? Sure you can argue that it's a feel thing.... Or whatever. But that doesn't really resonate on an album. In a live setting, I get it. But at the same time, it's boring! I had high hopes for the critical acclaimed Daft Punk. There are a few songs that I liked 'Da funk' and 'Around the World' - but these are the songs that I knew prior to this. I was introduced to those songs via Much Music. The video to the songs had made the songs far more enjoyable. If I had watched a video for each song while listening to this, I probably would have enjoyed it more. But this is just a listening experience... And I think this type of music needs another medium to make it more interesting.

I dig a few Daft Punk songs, including the two major singles from this album. While I'm ever so slightly more into this genre of music these days than I was in the 90s when this was first released, I still found myself pretty bored by Homework as a whole collection - it's deliberately repetitive (especially on 7 minute-long tracks like "Rollin' and Scratchin'" and "Rock and Roll" - I had to skip these after a couple of minutes). There is a small handful of gems on Homework that would be even better if at least 2-4 minutes were shaved off. But I guess that's not the point of the French dance genre that Daft Punk almost single-handedly popularized. If the group's 2013 album Random Access Memories appears in this listening journey at some point, I will likely enjoy re-listening to that one a lot more--as the group evolved into one that frequently collaborated with other artists/vocalists. I do respect Homework for the groundwork it laid but I can't say I enjoyed listening to this album. I skipped through at least half of the tracks that were excessively long and repetitive. 2 stars: I get it, but not for me. Interesting Factoids from Wikipedia: *As the duo's first project on a major label, they produced the album's tracks without plans to release them, but after initially considering releasing them as separate singles, they considered the material good enough for an album...Homework's success brought worldwide attention to French house music. *Daft Punk produced the tracks included in Homework without a plan to release an album. [Daft Punk co-producer Thomas] Bangalter stated, "It was supposed to be just a load of singles. But we did so many tracks over a period of five months that we realized that we had a good album." Interesting Factoids from SongFacts.com: *[On "Around the World"]: The entirety of the lyrics are the phrase "Around the world" repeated 144 times. Standout Tracks: Da Funk, Around the World, Alive

Vaatisi kai arvion tanssilattialla. Mutta jäisinkö silloinkaan hillumaan Around the Worldin jälkeen?

Couldn't get past halfway before switching off. I despise overblown constant repetition in music, and this is clearly the world leader in that genre. Not for me. 2 stars because there were elements of decent music in there, and I can appreciate that it wasn't crap.

could i write poetry to this? n

Each song stays exactly as long as it needs to stay... And then sticks around for 5 more minutes.

Every song goes 2x longer than necessary. Like edging without a climax

I like some Daft Punk songs a lot, a whole album of them is a little too much.

Background noise. Ok, but not the background noise I’d pick first.

Heyrnar- og heilaskaði blog house áranna neiii takk úff bara tvö góð lög og maður er búinn að heyra þau þúsund sinnum. Horror

I wanted to like this album so bad. “Around the World” is such a fun song. An hour-fifteen is just mind-numbingly long for how little diversity in sound this album provides.

Not good. This album had one good song and the rest I struggled to get through. Rounded up to a two start rating, but in reality is an upper 1 start.

not into it

Not enough tracks I got into to balance the tracks I just found boring and overly repetitive

Album was very mid, up until half way through the album. A song popped on where I was like “this kinda slaps.” Only to realize that song was Around The World. But production was flat and not as layered as I would have expected.

I like the sounds, but it's so repetitive.

It’s quite physical, fleshy, squishy squashy. I found most of it a challenge to listen to, but it’s probably a grower. Best tracks: Revolution 909, Da Funk, Phoenix, High Fidelity, Alive.

There were a couple okay tracks. Overall I found the album a bit boring. The songs are all too long and too loopy. I'm okay with some loops, but there wasn't enough to break them up and keep them interesting.

not for me

Everyone got gaga over these guys. Not my jam. If I'm going to listen to this kind of thing, I'll go back to Chic, but I'm in no rush. Good for what it is, I'm just not interested in what it is.

It's alright. I can see how it was quite groundbreaking, and you see and hear the references all over the place. It's just not my kind of music.

I genuinely think this album might have made me go mad.

Not the vibe I was looking for driving to work. No lyrics all dance/club beats, maybe one of them here and there before going out but couldn’t listen to the album fully again

The beats and sounds are good but EDM is really not my thing. I can dance along with it but after a while it just gets repetitive as beats and bass lines over and over. But I hate critiquing it too bad because that is EDM, so in that world they might be amazing, but to me its just meh.

I really wanted to like this album but I can say with certainty that I did not. Insanely repetitive, not musical, and mostly annoying imo. Sad cuz I do like DP but just wasn't really for me even if it was innovative at the time.

Wow, this album aged poorly. I remember when this came, it was like hot potato and it was everywhere. Upon re-listening...yikes. It is waaaay tooo long... 76 minutes. It is unfortunately the time when everyone puts way to much music on cd. Quantity over quality. There are some redeeming qualities and songs, but yes, it's just not enough. The songs are just way too long, way too annoying (Rock N Roll and Burning), or just too monotonous (Around the World, Da funk). Highlights for me: Indo Silver Club, Alive.

I thought I'd enjoy this a lot more than I did

Not my thing. I feel like I need acid and some glow sticks to really get into this, but that isn’t going to happen any time soon.

I love them but this album has too much noise on the early songs

Around the World is a timeless bop. The rest of the album felt a little like kids trying out Garage Band for the first time.

not my cuppa

Crap! I don't really like house, this was boring and pointless noise

Tedious, monotonous

Not much into repetitive dance music. I do remember "Around the World" though

I love Daft Punk. What those 2 guys could do with music was incredible, and I love so many of their songs. Homework was the album before they really hit the groove with every song being amazing. This doesn't have many great songs, and in my opinion one of the worst songs of all time "Around the World", too repetitive, way too long, it's horrible.

Not for me. Most of it I just don't get. Gets better after Around the World, especially Rollin' and Scratchin'. The end is a bit boring again.

I know their more recent alumna but had never listened to this before. It’s alright I guess. Toward the end of the album I thought to myself, “that was pretty good,” while not realizing I was less than halfway finished. It really drags on. Perhaps if I was listening to this while dancing in France in 1997 I would have enjoyed it more.

Thumpin’ Pumpin’ Electronic & Happy

This felt like the background music to a video game that never built up to a boss fight...

This album makes me think of Gabe and his dreamscapes. Needs more glowstick as well.

Not for me

No doubt, a pivotal album for DJs everywhere, emphasizing simple, repetitive patterns of drum beats, base notes, and effects. However, far too repetitive for my liking.

An onslaught of repetitive 90's French house music that is almost interesting. Beats are grating, cyclical, and way too long. Daft Punk is a respectable pillar of the techno genre, but their later efforts are much more listenable in a casual setting. This album as clearly meant to be experienced in a club, not in my office on a rainy Monday morning. Stand out tracks (actually listenable) include "Da Funk", "High Fidelity", and "Alive".

Zu viele langweilige songs.

Irgendwie schade, war eintöniger als erwartet. Die bekannten Hits von dem Album sind mit Abstand die besten. 2,5.

2.5. Pretty cool ideas but a lot of the songs just seemed like noise to some extent and were just boring.

not my thing but i can appreciate it for what it is

Tbh album would be much better if they would shrink it by 3-5 times. It's like i'm hearing the same second for a trillion of years. 2.5. Favourite song(s): "Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World"

Not my style. I didn’t like it

Soooooo long. And repetitive. Sounds we're good but doesn't help when it loops over and over again!

Yay! Excited to listen to this one! Ok, never mind.

Nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst nn-tst

So many boots, so many cats. I did like this better now than when it was released, but I don't see myself on this carousel again. Da Funk was cool.

You can dance to it. It's not music for airports; this is music to invoke a certain physical response — to raise your heart rate and encourage your body to move. Outside of this intent I don't have much use for it, but within that scope it's good enough for the job.

it certainly *felt* like homework

Not for me

Not really into dance music, but some of those felt like classics so it was aright

Some of this was fine and some of it was ass. 2.

Some decent songs on it, and I can definitely see it's impact on the music scene. But a lot of tracks feel a bit grating to listen to outside of it's presumably intended context: in a club. I'd imagine I'd enjoy the album a lot more in that setting, with the songs being mixed together live.

This EDM beast is like Shakespeare meant for the stage, and feels like it would only work live. Its extended repetitions feel a bit like a stuck vinyl, making it challenging to fully embrace. Even my deep love of a bloodhound with a broken leg can't make me muster any affection for this album. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 0 STAND OUT TRACK - Around the World (but it needed to be at least 4 minutes shorter!)

Not as enjoyable to me as DJ Shadow or the pop/dance fusion of the Per Shop Boys. “Da Funk” has a hint of where they will go with “Get Lucky.” **

I’m sure it’s good, but not my cup of tea. Am patiently waiting for it to finish so I can relisten to the recommended album from yday (funeral).

Da Funk and Around the World remain bangers. The rest felt like homework - dull and repetitive and rarely groovy.

house music is boring! and this was a particularly boring example!

Sitting at the lab and pipetting does not do this album justice. I am paying it too much attention to enjoy it. There are no ear worms or memorable motifs; I instead feel like my eardrums are being assaulted by an amorous android. Techno lights and at least three shots in a club setting is required to enjoy this. Background noise while writing could also match it.

I don’t think this is meant to be listened to recreationally while driving around doing errands.

Couldn't really listen to any of the tracks without skipping before the end. Annoyingly repetitive. Around the World is a highlight only because I like the music video; I still had to skip it though. Got to Rock'n Roll and DNF

Needs to be listened to at loud volumes for full effect. Definitely not my thing.

Not as dull as some of the other electronic albums on here, but still never captured my interest. An hour and fifteen minutes of silence seems preferable.

Boring electronic music

I like Daft Punk and electronic music. I sometimes have a hard time getting into house music though just because it feels too repetitive. There were some cool parts but overall I kind of got bored from the repetition. I do appreciate it's significance in french house music and dance music as a whole.

I wanted to like it but some songs felt like nails on a chalkboard.

It kinda lost it's welcome after Around The World.

repetitive nonsense - around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world blah blah blah

I know that this genre of music simply isn't for me, and also I shouldn't be listening to it while I do my fake email job at 1pm on a Thursday, but even so I cannot fathom why this album is held in such high esteem by those who are into it. There's a 7 minute 33 second song of the same 8 count of noise repeated over and over with nothing but various effects and additional percussion layered onto it. Most of the album just isn't compelling if I'm not at an EDM show and on drugs. Extra star for Da Funk and Around the World tho

Repetitive beats drive me insane. I know Daft Punk had a major influence on other acts, but I just can't get into this sound. Not for me.

Interesting, didn't sound like music to me ...two stars

Even though I like later DP releases I just don't like this one. The songs are moreso collections of noise than coherent songs imo. Maybe I'm not on enough layers of irony or something

This music isn’t for me.

I guess they all can't be good... Not a fan

Got a little annoying-had to skip most songs after a minute or so. Gave two stars only because I can see how they are influential. I do like their more recent album.

thought i would like this more than I did since i like the popular daft punk songs

Boring and hella repetitive. I get that its Daft Punk's first project but this is hard to get through. Why put this album on the list when Discovery or Alive 2007 exists.

This album didn't need to be 74 minutes long imo.

I love Discovery and RAM. I just feel like those albums and their songs have more of a progression to them. These ones feel repetitive to me the few times I've listened to it. I do really like Around the World and Burnin' Up

Boring and repetitive and very very French. Not my thing at all, but I have just enough nostalgia and positive associations with a handful of tracks that it scrapes a second star. Goes on far far too long though

All pretty much sounded the same to me. Didn’t care for the album.
