Reviews (page 5 of 10)

I know this album really well. Let's give it a spin... More disjointed than I remembered - some of it is aggressive and repetitive in a way that I'm not sure translates to today's listener. That said, it's for sure a groundbreaking album that's set off in a direction that others have followed.

A little intense at times but undoubtedly energetic and danceable.

Aussi bon que prodigy même meilleur avec quelques classiques du genre. 4.25

The duo indulged in the most artificial/intellectual tricks of various styles of production (hip hop, ambient, funk, industrial, house). Their genre of melodic and exuberant instrumental music was hardly innovative compared with the disco music of their parents. (7/10) FT: Around the World

The tunes aren't all as good as some of the songs off of RAM or Daft Punk; but Jesus, this is the pure, distilled EDM energy of a buzzsaw. Some of the songs do slightly overstay their welcome and run out of ideas, but for the best part this slaps start to finish.

classic

True Rating: 74/100

A fantastic, seminal album fully deserving of its place on this album. They keep it simple, the make it effective. At a time when Big Beat ruled the dance scene this album really helped put straight up dance music back on the mainstream map again. Only the fact that a couple of dud tracks make this album feel too long prevent it from scoring a 5

Trip down memory lane! Baanbrekend destijds, en nog altijd erg fris en spannend.

Much more up my street ! Didn’t like every track but still worth 4*

Around the World, Around the World!

Best so far, most consistent and classic Daft Punk

This was fun to revisit. Around the World is the big hit but I've heard it so many times that it was the one song I skipped. It's a long record but great to jam on in the background while you work. Homework is an appropriate title in that way.

Good, but a bit long, maybe a little boring.

Glad this site gave me an excuse to listen to Daft Punk again. This is a great album, yet not my favorite, therefore 4 stars. Tracks I enjoyed most are Rollin' & Scratchin', Phoenix, High Fidelity and Da Funk.

classic

Great study/work album. Browsing too. Ambient, sampling, lots of dance songs too. Just a refreshing techno album.

Pretty good. Like background dance music

Interesting to look at older Daft Punk, I hadn't gone this far back in their catalog.

Daft Punk was amazing and this album is a great listen straight through

Every time I'm in a Daft Punk mood I listen to Human After all, so it's been a while since I heard Homework! Great album, I really like Around The World, although I don't fault those who find it too repetitive. Daft Punk's songs are tailor made to blend between each other in a set.

7/10. had potential to be higher but so many of the tracks felt like filler.

It drags a little at the end

Still amazing but it was before they understood melody.

Great album but not 10/10

Not daft punks best but even still

At this point Daft Punk feels like an electronic music institution. It makes sense for them to be on the list, but I was surprised to know so little of the tracks on this album. It was enjoyable bangers throughout, but not peak-Daft imo, Around the World and Rollin' and Scratchin' toward the middle of the album are solid tracks and def show why it's here on the list.

I think they have much better albums, but I had never listened to this one, was definitely good. I'd say 3.5-4, but 4 seems fair.

Really good listen especially when working. I'm surprised.

This was really well done. I'm not a huge fan of electronic music, but Daft Punk really brings their own unique degree of artistry to these songs.

Cool, but very repetitive

Glow sticks around the world praise this album as the underground’s ascension to prominence and renown. Stocks surge for Bitcoin and free love reigns as anti-drug laws are continuing to be lifted across the regimes. Only time will tell when the players will wake from their matrix injected reality of black leather, fat ass guns, and kung fu.

Je pense que tres bon.

Enjoyed most songs, not Rollin' & Scratchin' though.

I am not super into electronic music, but I really enjoyed this album and have songs I have added to my playlists. Daft Punk are legends and I am glad I got to hear some of their early discography.

Caught myself dancing on several occasions would recommend. But some songs did get repetitive and dragged on far to long then I would have liked.

not as good as discovery or human after all or random access but it's still got some solid hits in it. a good first effort

3.75/5. I liked this, it has sounds of normal boring techno music, but they add something else to the songs that make it less repetitive and more enjoyable to listen to, although there are still some repetitive songs on the album. I am excited to listen to more of their stuff.

il ont âgés comme du bon vin j'imagine

I am a bit conflicted on this album. On the one hand it introduced us to one of the forerunners of electrohouse/dance music, taking their place alongside Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers, and features some very catchy hits such as Around The World and Da Funk. On the other hand though, most of the songs can be very repetitive and do not provide much substance, and listening to the entire album which itself is very long can somewhat be tedious. It is way better to hear and experience these tracks at a nightclub or in a live setting, where daft punk absolutely excelled at putting on some of the best live performances ever. It is a pity that they are no longer touring. This would be followed up with Discovery which I consider to be their best album.

Just like calm background disco music I would put on if I was hosting a party. Around the world is good but that’s about it.

Daft Punk fans around the world should tell you this album is not an accurate reflection of their career. Daft Punk were instrumental in making electronica music mainstream. They went beyond vibes; they added pop influences, and would often have meaningful lyrics. For better, or worse, this album is a typical techno album, unlike Daft Punk's other albums. Favorite Track: "Around The World".

While I appreciate its cultural importance, Cannot say it is something i would listen to purposefully. Never listened to it then and I likely will not again. Some of it was good. some of it was very repetitive. the 2 big hits were familiar and while it got me tapping my foot sometimes it just seemed to go on and on. I lost interest around track 10. Rollin and Scratchin was my standout track, or maybe alive. 3 stars

Great beats but it could use an editor; they really used every inch of the compact disc on this one

This is kind of a mixed bag. First off, Daft Punk is excellent and they're masters of making a catchy tune. Around the World is just excellent start to finish. Many of the other songs are pretty good too, but the issue we run into is that, other than Around the World, each song becomes QUITE monotonous after being on for a few mins. I thought for sure this was a 4 star lock but they seriously could've cut a quarter of this albums length EASY and locked in a 4 star album.

Enjoyed it way more than I expected. Very much in line with Krautrock, that repetition somehow works for this album. Usually, it would be a turn off, but this album hit me just right, I guess.

Clearly a work of genius, even if the I only really connect with the established bangers. These French dudes knew how to structure a house beat better than anyone before or since.

(74/100)

I have more time for Daft Punk than a lot of electronic artists. There are undeniable bangers here (Da Funk, Around the World), but at 75 minutes, alot of songs just go on too long and cant hold my interest. They definitely improved on the best parts of their stuff with Discovery and Random Access Memories, this is just an alright debut

Some interesting arrangements with fun beats. But it is ultimately too long with some more boring club filler. Highlights were: Daftendirekt, Da Funk, Fresh.

Daft Punk’s *Homework* is a fascinatingly raw, hit-and-miss journey through the foundation of modern house music that ultimately triumphs on the strength of its standout grooves. While the album occasionally gets bogged down by repetitive filler like "Phoenix" and "Burnin," or mid-tier experiments that rely too heavily on basic sampling, its highs are absolute masterclasses in electronic production. The record truly shines when it embraces its rhythm-heavy identity—whether through the undeniably groovy baseline of "Indo Silver Club," the gritty psych-EDM energy of "Rock'n Roll," or the massive, dynamic atmosphere of "Alive." Anchored by the timeless, slapping bassline of "Around the World" and the quintessential funk of "Da Funk," *Homework* serves as a gritty, club-ready blueprint that proves why the duo became legends, even if you have to skip a few tracks to find the real magic.

This record immediately reminded me of this rave girl that tried to seduce me this summer. Clint is scared bro. This also is Finals core as fuck. I don’t listen to dance/house music much, but this was a neat listen. I guess I’ve become so accustomed to this kind of music being super duper polished and refined, so hearing this genre in such a raw way was really interesting. I haven’t ever really thought of the genre this way before honestly. It’s hard for me to rank or pit against anything due to my lack of knowledge here, but I can totally imagine hearing this at a club as I slowly lose control of myself. So that’s gotta count for something, right?

Good walking and working album. The repetition and droning can make for some good brain space. I will definitely consider this and other Daft Punk albums for future "ignore this music" music. I don't know if I particularly really enjoyed the album as much as just enjoyed the way it was presented. But it was good nonetheless.

Discovery and RAM is not on the list, but this is???? Crazy. I like daft punk, and I also think its important to say at the time of this release in 1997 house music was in a bit of a lull, but this is far from my favorite album of theirs. It's still good, the sound is unmistakebly them, but when listening to it as an album it kinda falls apart. The catchy repetition individually become mindnumbing and the latter half of the album falls flat for me. Songs like Burnin' just go on way too long. Idk I'm not exactly listening to this in its most intended setting and I think it'd be better in the background or in concert, but trying to actually sit down and just focus on this album feels a little like getting a lobotomy. It still has just enough bangers and highlights to get a 3 from me though.

I enjoyed this although I felt it was too long and could have been refined much more. I felt like there were quite a few filler tracks that could have been removed. However this has opened my eyes a bit to daft punk outside their number 1 hits. They are much more electronic than I had realised with some quite heavy stuff on here but not really dubtastic. 3.5

C'est pas si pire mais c'est quand même un peu attardé. En fait c'est peut-être ça le bon côté. 2.5 étoiles

Y'know, the grooves are maybe a little repetetive. But honestly, they're deep enough that it doesn't grate. I can only imagine being in the club while this was spinning. I guess just sitting here listening to it, it sounds like y2k - Frutiger era vgm, which I definitely don't mind either. I dig it.

This is a pretty damn good album! Unfortunately, the knowledge of how far they would rise with their next album Discovery does actually tank this one a little bit for me. This one is presented much more as a collection of sounds that can be thrown into a DJ mix, which does absolutely fit with Daft Punk's ethos and live shows, but as an album experience means it unfortunately tends to drag a little on the more repetitive and purely beat-driven sections. That said, it does have some all-time heaters like Da Funk and Around the World, so I can't complain TOO much. Still a 7/10!

A good start from Daft Punk but you can really tell they haven't come into their own here yet. This sounds a lot like Justice (not a bad thing) and there is probably about 8 minutes too much of scratching and wailing on it for me. Discovery is an album of the decade and it's interesting to see what came before it

I love Daft Punk, but they have better albums

Daft Punk never gets old to me.

The songs I like from this album are good, but there are a lot on here I don't like. Everything is just extremely repetitive and not enjoyable.

Some bangers, but I didn't love most of it

So, Daft Punk are obviously one of the most iconic and influential acts in the history of electronic music, right? I shouldn't have to convince you that a list like this needs a Daft Punk album? Okay, good. With that said, why the hell did they choose this album? I get that this album introduced the Daft Punk sound, but for crying out loud, this album is so early in the duo's career that they didn't even have the robot helmets when it released! That's the most iconic thing about Daft Punk! On a more important note, Homework is certainly not Daft Punk at their creative peak. I haven't listened to every Daft Punk album, so I don't know entirely where this sits in their discography quality wise, but I have heard this album's followup, Discovery, so I can confidently say that that album is a genuine masterpiece. It's so good. That album would get an easy 5/5 if it was on this list, but it's not on the list, so I can't do that yet. Instead, we have to talk about their 1997 debut album, Homework, which isn't nearly as good. It's still good, don't get me wrong, but not a 5. What I'm trying to say is that Homework has its flaws. I'll start with the praise though, as I do have praise to give this album. The production on here is quite great. From the get-go, Daft Punk had a knack for music production and it shows on this album's best songs. Said songs are quite wonderful. "Da Funk" and "Around the World" are this album's most iconic songs and they're iconic for good reason. The former has a really sick riff and the latter has a great sense of progression throughout its runtime. That's a compliment that I can give to Daft Punk for much of their material. The songs are rather repetitive, yes, but they build up over time to introduce and subtract and re-introduce ideas and it keeps songs like "Around the World" from getting stale. I have a ton of respect for that. As far as other songs, "Revolution 909" is pretty cool and I think "Fresh" is super underrated. The best songs on here are great. But, this album has duds on it too. Here's where the critiques come in. I think this album's biggest issue is its pacing. The first half or so is pretty great, enough to get a 4/5 even, but the album loses its steam as it goes on. Latter songs like "Rock'n Roll" and "Oh Yeah" just don't do it for me like those earlier songs do. The album also goes on for a while. This is another one of those EDM albums where the runtime goes for over 70 minutes for no clear reason and I just can't keep myself entirely engaged for the whole runtime of the album. Additionally, while the repetition works for some songs, those latter tracks that I mentioned earlier don't really do enough of the things that I'd like them to do for me to really love the songs. Overall, Homework is a respectable debut and a good foundation for the great albums and great career that would follow it, but it also leaves a bit to be desired, especially going back to it now when albums like Discover exist. Still, I do like this album and I fully get why Daft Punk have the legacy that they do. High 3/5.

Beats, beats, synth, and more beats

1001 Albums Generator 290 (5/13/2026) It's definitely repetitive but almost any of these would go so hard at the clurb. The second half of the album loses a lot of steam in my opinion. 3/5. Favs: Da Funk Fresh Around The World Least Fav: Rock'n Roll

Definitely an album worth listening to at least once in a lifetime. It clearly feels designed more as atmospheric background music than as a traditional narrative or lyrical album. I do not listen to electronic music very often, but I still enjoyed going through the different sounds and grooves across the record.

Idk why I expected dad rock but I was surprised! Does get repetitive but mostly enjoyed it

1997 was an incredible year for electronica with the release of Homework, Dig Your Own Hole, and Vegas (yet to hit list). Daft Punk went crazy with "Around the World" and "Da Funk." Certainly a great tracks with sensational music vids that still crush today. I do appreciate some of the throw back funk style the Daft boys throw in which is highlighted on these in particular and few others but I find the album lacking overall. Front 10 are good and then a real rough spot where the album devolves into a mess. "Rock n' Roll" felt like getting electro-therapy...rough headphone listen. Some relief where it comes back "Alive" for the finish thankfully. The duo is too clubby for my taste and I really don't like the pop direction they took on future albums and collabs. No doubt these Frenchy DJs have spurned on many to mix and spin at parties, clubs, bars, etc. They deserve a list spot for driving house music forward and even for their hidden identity which adds to the mystery. I think they may be robots or have/will be replaced by some. 2.61 stars cause da funky dog ate my homework.

Homework is a really difficult album for me to review. On the one hand I'm a huge Daft Punk fan, and a couple of songs from Homework really hit it out of the park. On the other hand, I feel this features some of Daft Punk's worst work. I guess that isn't a huge statement as they only have a handful of albums plus some tangential entries in Tron and Alive, but Homework really features the full spectrum of aspects of techno/house music both good and bad. At times the they hit the nail on the head and the beats take you on a perfect ride. At other times it is bloated, repetitive, confusing and lackluster. The singles from Homework still hold up, but the remainder of the album and nearly the entire back half actually bring the album down. Homework is one of the best examples of an album that features an artists potential. You can see the parts and pieces of what they would grow into and how they later learned to mix and produce an album as a complete work as oppose to random mix of parts. You would hope that any band/artist would grow and improve from their debut album and I personally believe that Daft Punk accomplished that. I have a lot of fondness for all aspects of these robots' career and Homework is merely a single chapter of it. You can't tell the story of Daft Punk without Homework, so I'm glad we have it, but I personally put it at the bottom of their discography which is admittedly still a pretty high bar to clear. I'm very interested in seeing what other people think of this album and really really hope we get at least an additional entry from Daft Punk down the line. If we don't, I know I'll still be personally featuring them within the rest of the group in the future. 3.12 stars

Simultaneously great and a little disappointing. First off, it's toooo long. but there were a ton of toe tappers on this album! it had me wiggling my knee and tapping on the table for the entire album. That said, it does get a little repetitive, and I think there are several songs/moments that didn't age well, they just kind of sound like noise. but on the other hand, this is terrific music to put on your headphones to stay motivated to get some work done! Overall, I think this is a good album, but do I see myself ever playing it on purpose? I do not. 3.5 stars.

It starts out great, but loses me after a while. Gets very repetitive with the later songs. Rating: 5.5/10 Favorite Song: da funk

While I wasn't super familiar with any of these songs, I felt like I was vaguely familiar with all of them. That could be because if you've been at any bar/restaurant/club that plays electronic/house dance music, you've probably heard these songs. Or it could be that they all just sound very similar - similar beat, virtually no lyrics. While I definitely appreciate Daft Punk and their contribution to their music, and I think they are extremely talented at it, I find dance music to be extremely repetitive. This album is long and repetitive, which actually worked out for me because after being on vacation for a week, I had a lot of computer work to catch up on and just had this playing in the background. But I wouldn't seek out listening to this again. Great background music in the right situation and great for a dance club, but not my kind of music to just listen to.

I was excited to listen to this but this might be somewhat controversial, not as good as I remembered (especially compared to Discovery). This is from someone that's always rating electronica albums high on here, but what a lot of people fault those for I find moreso here, but there's a prestige that means Daft Punk get more of a pass. It's somewhat derivative, baby's first electronic album, not bad by any means but not hitting enough for the repetitiveness and not complex enough for the more laxed tone.

There’s some pretty good stuff on here and also some filler where it sounds like they’re just playing around with the DAW.. which they were. Good start to their career though.

Crazy for the 90s, annoying at times

🎧Homework but no Discovery?? What are you doing Dimery?? Da Funk slaps.

Couple of great tracks, but why isn't Discovery here instead?!

Dance-able and hypnotic - with a global mega-hit thrown in as the cherry on top. Not my fav Daft Punk album though and first half is way stronger.

Solid but did not enjoy as much as their other work

I don't my the repetitiveness, but for some reason the music is grating on me a bit. Maybe I need to relisten when I'm in a different mood.

This set Daft Punk’s stall out for what was to come. Not their best album, but the ingredients are all here, as well some great videos to accompany the singles. I actually enjoyed listening to Homework in full for the first time in a while less than i expected to. Alright rather than great

When its good, its great but a lot of filler

I don't take issue with the length of repetitiveness, I love electronic music. Unfortunately I do like my electronic music to be a bit more uptempo (or at least interesting and filling my ears with noise like Around the World). Pretty mediocre album imho.

This is a really difficult ranking for me because I love daft punk but this album is just not that good.. but I have to ask myself, out of context, if I had never listened to daft punk before and had no standards, what would I give it? Ultimately I reflected on my ratings so far and concluded...

How to make a Daft Punk song: 1. Find a cool sample 2. Make a neat beat 3. Loop 500 times 4. Congrats you made a Daft Punk song When it works it works. It doesn't always work.

around the world is fantastic obviously. da funk is great, a lot of good side A stuff. alive is a strong ending. side B is just decent yet unremarkable with the only two Outright Bad daft punk tracks i can think of (rock’n roll and oh yeah) back-to-back. its a fuckin crime this is the only daft punk on this list because it just doesnt reflect their insane talent

i wanted to give this a 4 because it has a few bangers on it... but it just isnt cohesive enough

This one was…..interesting. I can see why the reviews are very divided. I did find it repetitive but it did have some great stuff (pheonix, around the world)

First time listening to this genre and didn’t mind it. Can see the appeal, but not really the right stuff to listen to during daily life for me. Liked the instrumental tracks more than the ones with the sampled vocals. Overall, decent, just not really my cup of tea.

Sommige nummers vind ik echt top. Sommige nummers te veel het zelfde.

Da Funk is so well constructed that you wonder why most of the other ones just never seem to go anywhere

Some funkiness in there. Some fun songs to bop to. Some that were a bit grating.

I hate being the guy that says their hit album is better but in this case I will...Discovery still wins for me. However, I can't say this album is bad since I still enoyed what I heard. It's their debut and you hear them getting their footing. Yes some parts are a bit too distorted, some repetitive, but overall its not awful. I'm hoping to encounter their Alive album (and Discovery ofc!) while going through this list 🤞🤞

3 sterne

Album No. 0197 on my list. I've had a brief but intense Daft Punk fan phase about six years ago, and my affection with the two french robots has faded a little ever since, even though I have to say I still find the two of them really cool. Too bad that they disbanded in 2021. Anyway, at the time, I was mostly a fan of their later albums ("Discovery", "Alive 2007", "Random Access Memories") and always found "Homework" a solid, but not a spectacular album. And this has actually not changed since. This is certainly an iconic house album, it was definitely highly influential and deserves its spot on the 1001 album list. However, I'm not much into "pure" house music in the sense that I rarely visit clubs and actually dance through the night, but rather enjoy this kind of music when it leans a little more towards the pop genre. I know this means I'm probably pretty dull, but that's just how it is. In that sense, "Discovery" to me is the superior album (and "One More Time" an all-time favorite - pretty dull, I know). I can appreciate "Homework" on an intellectual level and fully agree that it's a good album, it's just not my cup of tea. Too much pure dance music, too much repetition and all that. Anyways, I will add "Da Funk", "Around The World", and "Alive" to my playlist. 3/5 stars.

An enjoyable listen if like me you enjoy tasteful looped beats. It’s a little sparse, not many layers going on. I listened at work, and I’m not sure I could enjoy the whole thing without doing something else at the same time. I guess what I’m saying is that it functions great as dance music, slightly less so as an album.

Will probably never listen to it again but wasn't bad.

This is a fairly great house album. Yeah, I don't like the repetitive nature of this album, but everything else is top-notch. Not their perfected craft, but a great starting point.

Rätt hög variation i njutbarhet, men viktig såklart!

Really good dance album

Daft Punk are great, but the greatest Daft Punk is not on this album.

I probably shouldn't have been but I was a bit surprised that the album is just the work of two DJs, rather than more traditionally crafted songs of their later albums. They have some interesting beats of course, but some really don't need to be that long (4 around the 7 minutes mark (not that I have anything against long songs as long as it justifies it)). I suppose if DJs are playing them to dance to though it makes more sense. Anyway, interesting enough, not quite my kind of music though.

Review - surprised this album's on the list. Second album definitely a classic but the debut is (while definitely a good album) much less good. They hadn't figured out how to pick perfect samples to build a song around yet, and relied less on samples with vocals for hooks, and used less vocoder vocals themselves. Which makes this more of a "pure" techno/house album than their later crossover pop work. It's still a very good album, and you can see through songs like Around The World the beginning of their later style and success. And I'm sure when it was released it blew most of the popular Euro house music out of the water. But I wish I'd been listening to Discovery instead. Rating - 7/10 Need to hear? YES

Different, but kinda the same as the dance music that had been floating around LA and New York for a decade prior. Good solid beats brought to the masses! 3

It was amazing for reading or a rave!

Ok, this is a low score for Daft Punk - but this album was too 90s for me. It sounds a lot like Fat Boy Slim, and Fat Boy Slim does Fat Boy Slim better. Some of the Scratchin' was outright unpleasant... However, Around the World is a A+ banger, that I loved in the 90s and I love now. Also, despite my complaints I was still vibin quite a bit throughout the listen. Mostly I am looking forward to getting to Daft Punks later albums.

Good working music with the steady beat.

The songs were kind of simple. But good. Around the world around the world around the word around the world.

Basic in terms of what we've come to expect from the artist, but a foundational debut that includes the steady beats and loops, house and techno vibes that set the stage for future releases.

This is their debut, of course it's not going to hit as hard as Discovery or RAM but it still has it's highlights. Overall, it's too repetitive for me. Latter half is great though, tracks like "Oh Yeah" and "Indo Silver Club" hit hard. Love the distorted stuff more than anything. Favourite tracks: Da Funk, Fresh, Rollin' & Scratchin', Teachers, Oh Yeah, Burnin', Indo Silver Club 3.5/5

A little too long (Rock n Roll, Rollin & Scratching should have been cut) for its own good, but good jams and a new direction for electronic music are clearly laid out.

It’s a good album, but I think it’s very long and it gets repetitive. 6/10

I guess it's brilliant at what it's trying to do, but also not my thing

This album has never totally clicked with me, which I think is largely because of how it compares stylistically to 'Discovery', one of my favorite albums of all time. I think I'd like this a bit more if I could 'Men In Black' the rest of DP's discography from my brain.

3.8 Not their best work

I wanted to like this more than I did. It wasn’t bad, but got really really repetitive in theme and samples.

All the potential of a 5* classic album, but it's just so bloated.

Kinda disappointed by this one. I’ve heard the big hits from Daft Punk but the only album I’ve listened to in full was Discovery, which was brilliant. I figured if this one is on the list over Discovery then it must be great. It does have its moments. Around The World is obviously a classic and I really enjoyed Alive but it was very repetitive at times and dragged on way too long for me. Top Track - Alive

It was electronic music…

Started off good but did get annoying towards the end. Scrapes a 3 by being Daft Punk.

Orite but bit repetitive. Nowhere near as good as discovery. Da funk is a standout

Theres repetition and theres too much repetition. This is the latter tbh. Theyve got better albums. Da funk & Around The World great. But think they got better at Radio friendly shizz later on.

Enjoyable for a while but does get a bit annoying if you aren’t in the mood.

You can tell the talent is there, but a lot of these songs go on too long for what they are and need better structure.

6/10 Single song great whole album TOO MUCH

Man I don't really know The songs are kinda hit or miss for me. Some are pretty dope, others are "meh" I think 3 for now, might bump it up later

Le pongo eso por ser Daft Punk y porque había 3 canciones buenas

Pales in comparison to Doscovery, but you can hear the beginning of amazing work. I love a handful of the songs here, but as a whole album, it suffers. But I must say, this album is perfect to work to. I listened to the album twice while working and flew through the morning.

It's a fun DP album but more dancy being their earlier stuff. I probably won't own a record of this but would listen to it again.

Kinda cool for a first album and definitely **INFLUENTIAL** and enjoyable to space out to and enjoy the beats, but all of that aside it's honestly not that sick 5.0/10

This definitely got played at your prom in the 90s.

Wish i could give half scores. This was good but not good enough to bump it to a 4. Stuff to throw on in the background.

And the movie is even better

Some flashes of brilliance but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to sit through the whole thing again

Remember when you'd put in a CD and it would skip? It would play the same thing over and over rhythmically. That's what a lot of this album felt like. The first minute of every song is like a CD skipping then it becomes a song. Good for specific moods or working but not so entertaining on its own. Other Daft Punk is better IMO.

You have been on absolute fire this weekend RGP ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Tom.

I do like this and at the time played it a lot, it’s a 3 from me

Turns out a whole album of Daftpunk is too much. Especially when two tracks made me feel like I was have a tooth drilled.

Just fun electronic. Already familiar with, I think there is another album I like more by this band, but around the world is undeniable

There are times when the endless repetition, beeping and booping come together to bring something pretty euphoric. There are times when it feels like the perfect background sound to whatever you're doing. There are times when it simply must stop. Must stop. Must stop. Must stop. Inevitably with 74 minutes of this, it's a mixed bag.

From the get go, I want to say how damn right blasphemous it is that this album (imo, their worst album and my least favourite) would make the list and Discovery wouldn't, the album that has a feature length music movie to accompany it it's so damn good. Sometimes I wonder if the author of this book had a screw loose. It's difficult to full pull these tracks apart when many of them don't have lyrics and those that do often repeat themselves. Homework, from when I first listened to it as a teenager, truly felt like a lesson in how finding a sound that "scratches that itch" in someone's brain and repeating it with only slight variation can -sometimes- make for something truly satisfying and just incredibly annoying at other times. "Revolution 909" and "Da Funk" for me have always scratched this itch, as do "Fresh", "Oh Yeah" and "Burnin'". Unfortunately "Phoenix", "Rollin' & Scratchin'", "High Fidelity", "Rock'n Roll" do not. "Indo Silver Club" and "Alive" both sit in a weird middle ground, with intros of both being slightly insufferable before boiling into something scratchy again. "Teachers" stands apart as something as catchy and funky as it is respectful to all of the artists that inspired Daft Punk; almost like a bibliography in song form. And like a Bib, it's a great trail of artists and music to follow yourself. "Around the world" although it's got that repetitive phrase to drive some mad, it has a more traditional lean with a bass guitar, drums, tambourine and synthesized keyboards that can be picked out. To put it simply, it has a lot more going on than most other tracks and does it well. Overall, whilst they are one of my favourite artists of all time due to literally every studio album after this one, I cannot comfortably give it anything more than this score.

In the 1980s, disco music was considered (undeservedly) about as trashy as most songs of Billboard's top ten are today. The members of Daft Punk didn't think so, and based their first album largely on samples from the genre, as well as breakbeat, techno, indie rock—everything that was popular in the 1990s. The problem is, it doesn't sound like a coherent album. Initially, the duo just wanted to release a few songs, but they found they had enough material for a double LP, so they decided to strike while the iron was hot. That's probably why for every catchy song they slapped on two long, repetitive ones. It's not such a big deal, though — after all, for the band, it was a trial run, literally "homework." They would release their best album four years later, but the authors of this book, for some unknown reason, decided to ignore it. You shouldn't do that.

I think this album overstays its welcome just a bit, but it put me in a good mood, and I really needed that.

Daft Punk – Homework Homework is a "vibe-heavy" masterclass in bedroom production that hits "the brain just fine" as a background companion, even if it lacks the "vocal triumph" of my 5-star favorites. As someone who usually looks for "consciousness" and "technical chemistry," I found that this LP succeeds more as an atmospheric mood-setter than a deep "body of work." Tracks like "Around the World" and "Revolution 909" show "immaculate" technical simplicity, but others, including "Da Funk," tend to lose their momentum halfway through, making them prone to losing my interest. While it’s "pretty average" in terms of replay value for the full project, the handful of standout tracks make it a solid discovery. A "high-utility" 3/5 that serves its purpose without demanding a permanent spot in the rotation.

Play y a disfrutar.

I am not sure who listens to Daft Punk. They are referenced in other songs and in the media more generally but I don't think I have ever met anyone who just sits down and listens to them.

Around the World is one of my favorite songs of all time and takes me right back to 1998 at the Buzz in DC. The rest of the album is good background listening, but nothing extraordinary.

Kinda weird but I liked it.

An album to be danced to, not listened to.

Favourites: 1. Around the World 2. Da Funk 3. Alive It's good music to play at a club, but apart from that there are only a few songs worth listening to outside of a club setting. Still has solid beats however.

*I didn't realize DaftPunk was this straight up house music at their start *Obligatory 3 for house music- it's not painful to listen to, but I don't get enough variety to get to a 4 or 5 with how much each track repeats beats and words.

I really struggled with this. When Daft Punk are good they are great but all the repetition on each track of this album basically gave me a headache. Even something like Around the World, which I had thought I was fond of, drove me to distraction. At least I wouldn't have any problem following the lyrics if I wanted to sing along. But actually I found I just wanted to escape the relentlessness of it all. Decided to go 3 rather than 2 based on recognising the status of the band for their career overall might be warranted and the idea that I might have been having a bad day.

there are bangers but its just so long

Alive 2007 is a much better album! This one is fine, just a lot of skips and really not their best work. Discovery is an all-time dance album and Alive 2007's genius is in infusing and elevating those tracks with the great bits from this album that work, and discarding the 40-60% of Homework that doesn't.

Homework indeed! Like liner notes for Alive 2007, which is at the top of my wish-I-were-there concert list.

At the end of the day, I like Daft Punk but listening to an entire record of theirs is punishing.

Give me RAM and I’ll give you 5 *s… while the pop and dance instincts are great for me it just misses the storytelling and the highs and lows

Okay, a little bland by today's standards

Full of intriguing sound, though little minimal and stagnant of an album for my tastes, but it stands as an appreciated foundation for music-to-be Cool-sounding yet mind-numbing and it kind of forces itself into the background

My friend made fun of me for listening to daft punk on a casual Tuesday night. I had fun.

It definitely had some innovative beats and really interesting sounds, and I can't even say that I hated it as background noise. It's just not my thing.

I see why people like it but repetitive beats can only do so much when you're sober. Especially when this thing goes on for over an hour.

Synthy, energetic, and fun. Got me amped up for work in the morning. Made me feel like I was cooking. Good energy all around. No lyrics but who needs those for a good time.

This album woukd hit while being drunk or even tipsy. Not my favourite album from Daft Punk.

it's (of course) not as good as discovery but since it is their debut, it's alright. but its still a 3.5 for me cause discovery impressed me too much and this album didn't impress me much apart from around the world and da funk, although i know debut albums are always weaker than later works. 3.5/5

Some catchy songs but not on the same level as Random Access Memories

I started out strong on this, loving the beats and the energy, and very quickly got tired of it. I'm sure there's more nuance to someone who is a big fan of this genre, but by the end I was exhausted and barely able to tell songs apart. Went from a 4 to a 3 about halfway through for me. Frankly the 3 feels generous.

I had never listened to homework the way god intended, I think I could appreciate the overall result but it was a little too dense for me. Seriously made me question how much I actually love daft punk if THE debut album made me a little bit tired after a while... STILL i can recognize how this is so so so so so important

To repetitive

Daft Punk the best thing to come from France since the Revolution in 1789! Daft Punk is my favorite Electronic Duo/artists, for real. Out of any electronic genre, house, techno, EDM, whatever, they’re the ones that stand out to me. I mostly listen to Random Access Memories and Discovery, but Homework is still a fun album. It just doesn’t have the variety of Random Access Memories and, in my opinion, it’s trying to do some of what Discovery does, just not as well. Still, there are some generational bangers on here like “Da Funk” and “Around the World”. And please for the love of god can somebody destroy any and all traces of "Rock'n Roll". That song is horrible. 7.5/10.

daft punk is old as fuckkkkk what the hell

Flat Eathers hate to hear Daft Punk come on at the club.

This album is like living on a distant planet in a far away galaxy. Intergalactic warfare ravages the universe, and to make matters worse a team of scientists have just confirmed your planet's sun is about to supernova, and there is no escape. Faced with the twilight of existence, society decides to throw one last huge party and go out on a high. It starts well, inhibitions have been cast to the stars, and everyone is going wild. But it turns out the scientists put a decimal point in the wrong place, and the supernova is five days away, not five hours. Nobody wants to just have an end of the world party and then go back to work for a couple of days before death, so you all agree to soldier on and keep partying up until the end. Your space drugs have worn off, and you're experiencing a come down like never before. You have almost reached the stage where you welcome the end.

I can only stand so much and only if I’m running or something repetitive or distracting, but don’t want to give it a 2.

Don’t care for electronic, but they do it well

I love Daft Punk, but I had not heard this before and I understand why. It’s fun, but definitely very repetitive. Came out way before their other popular works, which makes sense to me. A real building block and foreshadowing of what was to come.

Overall Rating - 3.22/5 (6.44/10). Not my usual style of music, but this is good House music.

I bought this album on the strength of ‘Around the World’, back in the days of MTV2 being swarmed by Indie music it was something that perked my interest. However, like all Daft Punk albums, there is a lot of filler. Bangers held together my mediocrity.

Je m'attendais à aimer davantage mais c'est clairement pas mon album préféré des Daft Punk, quelques pistes sympa mais je peux pas mettre plus que 3/5

Great album. Not my style. Probably won’t listen to again.

I love Daft Punk, but this is not their best work.

I’ve listened to Discovery before, but nothing else by Daft Punk. Discovery was fantastic and probably top 100 albums ever—arguably the best dance album ever. The album starts off strong, with this weird opening that seems to bubble and build through a swamp until it forms itself into a distinguishable beat. Just past the minute mark, it does get repetitive, but by the two minute mark the sound has warped once more into the original murkiness. Cut about ten seconds or so from this song and it’d be perfect. It then seamlessly transitions into Wdpk, which gives a great radio announcer-style introduction, before transitioning once more into Revolution 909, with a pulsing beat and sounds of people talking and police sirens—which fade into some fantastic EDM. The following songs are equally as catchy, with Da Funk being the main standout. Fresh has a nice build to it, with the sound rising in and out of murkiness so naturally that you barely even notice when it starts to change. Then there’s Around the World, the first with distinguishable lyrics, which honestly ended up being a bad thing, because if I hear “around the world” one more time (one more time, we’re gonna celebraaaaate~) I’m going to explode. Rollin and Scratchin has some…rolling and scratching. It makes the whole thing much more interesting because the music does get very repetitive, and this adds a fresh sound to it. Oh Yeah is the first song to use vocals in a way that isn’t annoying as hell. Then Burnin has a cool, zipper-like sound to it. Indo Silver Club has an intro I recognize from somewhere but can’t quite place…driving me crazy. Then Alive is pretty good. Funk Ad is good as a closer, but it also feels like a bit of an afterthought—like, “oh, this album should have an ending track—lemme make one real quick.” This album is definitely at its strongest using dynamic production, and at its weakest trying to incorporate distinguishable voices and lyrics. Overall, it’s a debut—it shows some awesome talent but it’s inexperienced. Recap: Favorite songs: Da Funk, Fresh, Rollin and Scratchin Least favorite songs: Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World, Around the World Comparisons: N/A (Idk enough about this kind of music) Rating: 3/5

So foundational and it’s quite clear that they were literally doing their homework on what would ultimately be a genre and era defining sound for their albums to follow.

I like daft punk but not that much. I like Digital Love but this album didn't have many charmers like that. Even Around the World, whcih i guess is one of their big hits, is just annoyingly repetitive to me. Still pretty good though.

A ton of fun classics and although it tails off at the end this is still fun all the way through.

I feel like this was a bit ahead of its time for late 90’s techno. It was good, but not yet the greatness that Daft Punk would turn out to be. Although you can certainly hear that coming.

Actually found this very annoying. Repetitive and jangly. A few good songs in a sea of mess

An album I bought at the time, I remember loving the singles but hitting skip a lot. With this listen, things have not changed. My dislike of house is probably greater now than it was back then. Probably my least favourite electronic music genre. Still, a couple of standout tracks make it worthwhile. 3.5 rounded down Heard before? Yes Owned: Yes: 31/121 (25%) Will I get? No

Very danceable. Enjoyed the layering of different sounds after tracks got a little repetitive

I've never really been able to get into Daft Punk. I don't mind it when it's on, but nothing on this record really does much for me, so it's not something I'm very likely to come back to. 2.8/5

Another artist where you wonder what the hell the listmakers were thinking. This album is standard mediocre 90s techno with a few standout tracks like Da Funk, and not a good representation of this duo. Discovery (a solid 5) would've been a much better addition, or even Alive 2007 would've been great, hell we had that Metallica live orchestra album on this list at one point. Definitely a missed opportunity to showcase a great French electronica duo.

PRETTY FUN

Gezellig hoor, elektronische muziek. Sorry Eric.

Listenable.

Daft Punk's Discovery (2001) was the first electronic album I ever bought. That was my entry point to the genre and, in many ways, the measuring stick I use to judge all other electronic music. This record isn't quite as tight as Discovery, and the back half really seems to drag on forever... but it does have "Da Funk" and "Around The World" on it, so it's not a total write-off.

For two years in the late 90s, I had the privilege of being one of the last people to work in the coolest used record store in the small North Carolina city where I grew up. It's hard to describe the pleasure of being twenty years old and having a job where people constantly ask for (and even respect!) your opinion on music. Even though we sold this album, I was aware of it, and I was listening to a lot of electronic music at the time, I have never listened to Homework. As I opened the OAD app this morning, I wondered how I missed it. Then I remembered how I thought the single "Around the World" was obnoxious and repetitive, which turned me off to this album. Knowing what I know now about Daft Punk, especially the fantastic Random Access Memories, I thought that maybe I had missed an opportunity. Unfortunately, no, I was right to skip this one the first time around, and I almost didn't finish it today. Mostly, I found it obnoxious and repetitive. There were plenty of times when the rhythms and production had me bobbing my head, but even those moments were driven into the ground, with little variety to carry me through the tracks, much less the entire record. I thought I might catch hints of embryonic development of the group that Daft Punk would become, but honestly, I didn't even get that. This album disappointed me, and I probably won't return to it. I'm not sure if Discovery is on the list too, but I promise to keep an open mind if and when it pops up. Three stars.

I’ve spent a lot of time complaining about electronic albums on this list, but I was kind of interested to hold this one up to the rest. I wouldn’t put it on for no reason, but I liked it quite a bit more than the average… easy to see why. Continental euros, not Brits. A world of difference.

Album.I owned but rarely played from start to finish, replaying it I can see why, I found it a bit of a slog. However, the denouement from Burning onwards rewarded the staying powsr. That said, for my Daft Punk fixes, I am still likely to just head to One More Time -my soundtrack to Cape Town '01 - or the near perfect Get Luciy.

This was alright. I think Around the World is one of the best songs of its genre and it makes me happy every time I listen to it. But the rest of this album (including many lengthy remixes of Around the World) was just kind of a slog. I listened to the whole thing, but I didn't love it. Three stars.

Cool and funky, couple of classics. Prob give it a 3.5

Great album for the right occasion. Not a great album for a Wednesday morning at the office.

It's good. Very much the textbook for electronic music which followed.

This album feels like homework. Get it? Homework? 'Cause that's the album title? Hah... haha... Ah. Pretty decent.

S'alreet

This just isn’t for me no matter how much I try. I can recognise the appeal in certain tracks (Da Funk and Around the World are obvious club bangers), but I find it very long and very repetitive. I’m sure this is a genre landmark, but if you don’t know or particularly like this genre, it doesn’t do that much.

this was not their best work

I always think I enjoy Daft Punk more than I do because I usually only hear one song at a time. Listening to 70+ minute long album is a different beast altogether.

I will, with great disappointment, stop myself from simply just commenting Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the World Around the Wo

Même si le travail des Daft Punk est incroyable, je ne suis pas une grande adepte de musique électronique…

Ahh it was fine, just not my kind of tunes. But appreciated it nonetheless. Simpsons: Yes

They’ve done better

Not their best

I found the back half of this album very repetitive. I wish it were Discovery.

I really like Daft Punk but as other dance records it doesn’t really work out of the context of a party or club. Also, not my favorite work by them.

It's too repetitive for me, but I don't hate it at all.

Hmmmm I dont want to be controversial on this one, id generally say I like Daft, although I rarely listen, but thr start of this record is quite repetitive, a little dull. Im not gonna get any cool points for this, im tempted to say 2, but its so iconic that I'll probably stretch to a 3

71/100 it's good but i just can't imagine myself ever actually listening to it again

The early stuff which isnt as good as their later work

Good house album. A few of the songs were quite memorable, however outside of the dance aspect I don’t feel much of a need to listen to this again. But nonetheless is performs very well in the areas that it needs to, and uses some very pretty cool production techniques.

My first Daft Punk listening experience was...fine. Great music for my early morning commute but it definitely feels like a debut. Good ideas and some hit singles, but knowing the history of this band you know bigger and better things are on the horizon.

Samples looping, beats banging, hooks iterating, tension building and releasing and building and releasing, synths glitching screeching deforming sound into new textures and patterns, beats banging, repeating, looping, building releasing, howling. Oddly both all consuming and totally ignorable (but passively anxiety building) depending on how loud you play it. Favorites: The dirtier noisier stuff like Rollin and Scratchin

crisp, joyful

Ok. R did not like it. Thought it would be better.

I see the appeal but I think electronic music has the same problem: if you're not dancing to it, then it really loses it's luster after six or seven tracks.

Liked it more than I thought I would

I really have to be in the mood for electronica. Fortunately I was and this was pretty good. My ratings are 5⭐️ = all time classic. Will love forever. 4⭐️= loved the album and will most likely dive deeper into the artist’s catalog. 3⭐️ = liked the album 2⭐️= wasn’t my thing but I understand why it’s here and am glad I listened. 1⭐️= not good, not good at all

Classic. Still can’t stand that song Around The World though…

Ok. Some of it was too much like noise for me, but mostly it was ok.

Enjoyable, but a little too redundant at times. I've heard other Daft Punk albums and have enjoyed them more. I wonder if Daft Punk will ever really be for me. Highlights: "Da Funk"; "Around the World"

It feels like in some cases the author of this list was adding only a debut album of an influential artist just because it’s a debut. Sucks that discovery, alive 2007 and random access memories are not on the original list. Love daft punk, but this one is a little too simplistic for me

Enjoyed this but a little too much filler. I think if they cut a few tracks it could have been 4. “Alive” is a good live album by DP.

I was blasting this while cooking dinner for my family today in the middle of the workday, dancing around a little bit and chopping onions that made my eyes tear up really badly. My Vietnamese mother-in-law came downstairs, eyed me with concern and told me 'this weird music is too loud frank' before turning and going back upstairs. Not sure if she noticed I was crying or not and how that might have changed the conversation. In the story in my head, she now thinks I'm a possibly closeted gay party boy quietly danceweeping in mourning for my lost party boy youth. Anyway, I usually hate techno but this was at least good enough for me to humiliate myself in front of my mother in law so I'll say its at least slightly better than average.

Really impressive front half of this. Im a big fan of Revolution 909 and Da Funk. The second half lacks diversity and catchiness… a lot of slow builds over themes that arent really that amusing. I think dance music is supposed to excite and I was left bored over most of the last 35 mins. Alive was the only track there that I thought was worth listening to entirely. Like most albums over the hour long mark, they could trash 25% of this and come out with a complete product that doesn't leave your attention wanting more or finding something else. I need to define this, so I can stop writing this out. For now, ill name it Fluffy Album Syndrome (FAS). Long Album Syndrome doesn’t really summarize my main idea. A great album could be two hours if it takes that long to complete its main concept. Our Homework here is done in 45 mins or less 😉

A love letter to rave culture, and the album is peppered with the noises of urban life and post-club pavement crowds - very evocative for a seasoned clubber such as myself. I prefer their more sophisticated electro-pop that would come later vs the repetitive-by-design, house beats. The likes of 'Revolution 909' and 'Rollin' and Scratchin'' are a little too clinical and mechanical - the album doesn't really spring in to life until 'Da Funk' which is an all out mesmeric masterpiece. That's followed by 'Phoenix', an irresistible bassline, and all the infectious vibes of the barely recognisable Elton John sample. The basslines are often a driving force such as on 'Around the World', a nod to funk and disco influences (the subsequent collaboration with Niles Rodgers seems inevitable); and the quasi disco of 'Burnin''. A few banging classics cement a three, but I don't think it attains excellence as an album.

I mean, its daft punk

I have an involuntary negative response every time I hear “Alive” by Daft Punk. It’s the song that would always show up first in my music library every time I started my car, so I heard it start up maybe thousands of times. It’s not Daft Punk’s fault, but it is what it is. I like Daft Punk! Homework isn’t my essential pick for them, however. Good album tho.

Probably the best EDM album that we’ve had so far. The constant “four on the floor” pulse with syncopated riffs on top makes for perfect danceability. The use of interesting sounds utilizing distortion and filters also keeps things interesting. Problem is, it’s just too damn long. If they kept only the best tracks, this could have easily been a 4-star album.

Pre-listening thoughts: ok folks... and so it begins. I am finally working through the insane backlog I have built up for myself before I leave for the UK. I have some from like July that I've actually already listened to, about 15 or so but I never sat down and rated because I got lazy. But we've had some decent ones generated recently, so I'm excited to jump back in. Hopefully I can catch all the way up before Sunday. Post/during listening thoughts: I'm really not the biggest fan of electronic music. But even so, I KNOW this isn't Daft Punk's best work. It's decent, like the production is stellar as always, but a lot of their later stuff just has better melodies and composition. I did enjoy this (and got a flashback to Just Dance with Da Funk) but I can't say electronic music will ever be for me. A lot of these songs were just slightly too long for my taste and I like lyrics/singers, which a lot of these songs lack. 6/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: maybe not me in particular but I would advise to anyone if they've never heard electronic music, give these guys a try. Fav tracks: Da Funk, Fresh, Around the World Least fav tracks: Rollin and Scratchin, Rock n Roll

Completely mid. Was nice on parkrun but already forgotten it.

I struggle mightily with electronica because on one hand I understand its significance to electronic music. But on the other hand, it often ages so, so poorly. This album does have "Around the World" which ended up being a great global hit but unfortunately, lots of other tracks fail to meet the mark. I will say though - this a little better than alot of the other electronica that was on this list. 5/10

Quite enjoyable all things considered

They say "Around The World" 144 times on that track... I have to be in a very particular mood to just listen to a Daft Punk album. Wasn’t there today.

i have to compare it to discovery which is a little unfair but this just sounds so basic

Historically I’ve had a lot of trouble with long electronic instrumental-focused beat-forward albums. I didn't have a lot of trouble with this. It’s danceable and banging and even a little gritty. It’s still quite long and I don’t think I’d sit down and listen to it in full again, but I’d definitely put this on at a party, or while gaming, or if I for some reason ever get into drag racing. Even if it’s still not quite my cup of tea, I can see why they’re so acclaimed and am looking forward to the next Daft Punk record. Around the world, around the world. Around the world, around the world. Around the world, around the world. Around the world, around the world.

The debut album by French duo, Daft Punk... delivers funkiness... if you think i'm down on elecrtonic music, i'm not, i'm down on bad electronic music... lol... this is very good... it starts out with just a stark groove... "Daftendirekt" sets the mood.... "Revolution 909" takes you on a joyful ride... "Da Funk" is just that, a funky groove done by guys who are singer/songwriters as well as DJ's... and musicians... that's why i think this works so well... like if real musicians did the DJ/electronica thing... "Around The World" is a track that would sort of become the signature sound of the duo... after that, the sounds get more experimental and have less tuneage... so, in conclusion, i would say this is a solid effort... with just enough old influences not to bother me, and just enough of the industrial/DJ/House/electronica to annoy me a bit... lol... i think the younger generation would give this one five stars... i give it a strong THREE stars... the entertaining balances out the annoying... and i see the promise... and what they were trying to accomplish... i think...

Definitely feels like what the context suggests, a bunch of songs the pair made to be released as singles here and there but instead put them together as an album. Not to say that makes it bad or anything, i quite enjoyed this despite its repetitiveness and length of the album being probably too long. I thought mostly the singles were the best anyway, a lot of the others felt like filler as they didn’t really have much going for them other than a repeated beat which continues for like the whole song but I guess you can say that for all of them to an extent. Favourites: Revolution 909, Da funk, Fresh and Alive. Overall, 6/10.

daftendirekt- 5 wdpk 83.7 fm- 5 revolution 909- 5 da funk- 5 phoenix- 5 fresh- 5 around the world- 4. im over it rolling and scratching- 4 teachers- 5 high fidelity- 5 im tired it was fine

This is a well crafted and entertaining ride. It makes you feel like you're taking part in the dying hallucinations of a very disturbed robot, which you damn well can't say about any of the shitty blues clones this list loves so much. There's a limit to how much I can enjoy this as an album - by Rock n Roll I was ready to pull the plug though Indo Silver Club and Alive won me back over - but I give it some slack considering this kind of music was certainly not made to be listened to at home, alone, in pjamas.

Nowhere near my favourite Daft Punk record, but the Robots have always had such a talent for electronic music. That’s evident all over Homework. It’s fun to tune out a bit and lose yourself in the beats and blips. Once again, Da Funk is going to be stuck in my head for days. ✨

Shit sandwich Sorry, wrong album/artist Around the world around the world Some shite (Rock and Roll) and more quality balancing out to a respectable album

Too long for how little material they have. This selection was made because it was their first, not their best. The Fresh video completely changes the track.

An OCD pleasing album. Everything is just perfect, all in the right place. Precision and pop.

All these goddamn techno albums are so long. 75 minutes of this is too much. Daftendirekt makes me wish this album was just Around the World for 75 minutes. At least it's made up of 16 relatively normal songs instead of 12 really long songs. Da Funk rings a bell. So many songs. As far as electronic music goes, it's fine, maybe even better than most. These guys are like Dua Lipa's producer. Mark Ronson's favorite group. Around the World...this song was literally everywhere in 1998. In a world before YouTube and where MTV still played music videos, it was there too. Seven minutes is too long for three words to be repeated incessantly. They could use this as torture. How on earth did this get so popular? I'm not normally a fan of just scratches and distortion...but this morning there is something about Rollin' & Scratchin' that is getting to me. Not the title with the truncated g's. LCD Soundsystem heard Teachers and Losing My Edge was conceptualized. Rock'n Roll is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. This album is the house playlist for one of those early 2000s local pizza places that only has really attractive employees...everyone looks like a model and their pizzas all mimic something better only on top of a pizza. I have been listening to techno for too long. This album needed three fewer songs.

Some very strong songs and lots of creativity, but it also has a few clunkers. Perhaps needed slightly more active listening than I was prepared to give it since its not fully my genre.

Honestly need a relisten

You can just tell these guys were brimming with ideas, and some of them are transcendent on the level we would see on their subsequent albums. But there's a lot of stuff here that mostly feels transitory - like a people mover in the airport, guiding us from height to height. I think on balance I would probably give this a 3.5, but I've been too generous lately, and if every Daft Punk album is on here, there's gotta be some stratification, because the other three are *not* all 5s, but they *are* all better than Homework.

Its fine. Its just not really my bag.

Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Good one but not their best by far. Still a fun listen.

I'm gonna join the masses on this one and say that this album is too repetitive to be listened to anywhere other than a club. That being said, there was the occasional really good song like Rollin' & Scratchin' or Rock'n Roll, but past that it's a moderately okay house album. I would've much rather had Random Access Memories over this. P.S. I totally agree with the guy that called this tippy tappy plinky plonky noises that go round and round for 74 minutes

put this on and went for a walk.good walking album. nice pace good tunes

Some very good tracks, but some too chaotic for me://

I fear it's just a little to repetitive for me. Sorry to my brother.

I fared better on this one. I get why DP are significant and appreciate them but am not really a fan

This a a "3" descending. Not a great listen on 2025 but all the parts are there for the next 25 years of pop culture. From dance culture to the rise of Coachella to the sonics of rap and pop music. Give me some credit. But not extra credit.

Hard to pick a best track when they're all so similar. I guess I'll go with Rollin' & Scratchin'.

Yeah whatever it's fine. The version on YouTube, at least, is mostly music videos that are mostly annoying skits set to music.

A timeless classical and a great entry for eletronic music, which is surely not my thing. Can't deny Da Funk and Around the World though, those are simply memetic DNA since launch

A few notable bops mingled in here.

Homework isn’t a great album. It isn’t even Daft Punk’s best album. But it did stuff no one else was doing at the time. Also, it’s not a bad approximation of the energy of their DJ sets. Basement Jaxx and Soul II Soul are the only other collectives (of that era) that I can say that about. Come to think of it, why isn’t Club Classics Vol. 1 here?

More ambient/repetitive than their later works but a really fun debut.

Incredibly hyped debut, which fails to live up to its reputation. It trundles along brilliantly for the first half an hour, containing Daft Punk favourites 'daftendirekt', 'Revolution 909', 'Da Funk', Phoenix' (which I used to DJ in techno sets back in the day) and 'Around the World'. The problem is the album then goes on for another 45 minutes with hardly anything standing out, some tracks that might work in a DJ set but will just irritate in album format. It's one of the most front-heavy albums on the list I've seen so far.

Not a classic but ok.

Enjoyed the first 10 tracks but started to get annoyed during"Rock and Roll"--not enough texture in the last tracks to keep me interested.

a really solid opening that lost its luster at the end

Enjoyable EDM.

Nice album

Was cool background music

this is techno so I give it a 3

If I was into Dance/Electronica, it seems this would be a goto album. But alas, it isn’t my cup of tea but respect their work/following

Enjoyable listen — background music, mostly. I did recognize "Around the World"
