Sunday At The Village Vanguard

Quality stuff. What Debussy might sound like if he had a hip rhythm section. Great and sensitive playing throughout. This has never been a favorite of mine for some reason—maybe I want a horn to change the sound up a bit—but it's always a charmer and it's fantastic background music. I love the ambient sounds. Listening with headphones was a funny experience as I'd often turn around, thinking someone was talking to me. I've been to the Vanguard, and this immersive recording really allowed me to picture what it must've been like to watch this trio. Also, I love this quote from Miles Davis: "Bill had this quiet fire that I loved on piano. The way he approached it, the sound he got was like crystal notes or sparkling water cascading down from some clear waterfall." I went down a bit of a rabbit hole after listening to this. I thought Bill died in the '60s, but he lived and recorded up to 1980. He has two very cool albums with Tony Bennett that are worth checking out.

Not a fan of jazz noodling. Especially jazz piano noodling. Was completely inoffensive is about the most complimentary thing I can say about this.

never really got into this type of music and not really a fan of instrumentals. i prefer vocals with my songs. the songs sound like they are the music in charlie brown cartoons or perhaps what you hear in the background at a golden corral.

One of the most highly-rated live jazz albums for good reason. Beautiful piano lines throughout, very different compared to the other jazz I listened to which seemed to have more buildups and releases throughout.

Some great jazz and super impressive musicians - complex, yet simple

This was a great listen. Really good background music and made me feel like I was relaxing in an old jazz club.

Such a cool jazz trio sound. A little boring at times because I love brass, but it’s calming, fun and carefree.

One long song it seemed like but not horrid

The bass player (who died in a car crash 11 days later) on this recording is phenomenal. You hear the club crowd talking behind the sway of music. Jazz as it should be.

Noodly nurdly proper jazz - nice enough but aural wallpaper really

I loved this record the first time I heard it (when I didn't know much about Bill Evans or this trio). This record is so good you won't even mind that they "play the same song twice" four different times. To review, that's 8 tracks on a 10 track album. A considerable part of the success of this live recording in my opinion is the playing of bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. They more than hold their own with Bill Evans. When Scott or Paul take the spotlight it's as equally rewarding as when Bill does.

Every song sounds the same. With that said I can see how this music would be great to have the background while eating at a fancy restaurant or in a classy bar. I’d like to have this in the background with friends over while drinking wine.

Again, I don't understand jazz all that well. Lots of lovely double bass on this and it washed over me pleasantly.

Let me just say right off the bat: I love jazz. Especially jazz piano. Needless to say, I've already listened to this album many times - it's an old favorite of mine. Every single track is perfection as far as I'm concerned. The atmosphere of this album is lovely. It was recorded live, and you can faintly hear soft chattering, glasses and silverware clinking, and smatterings of applause. Normally I'm not a fan of live albums, but here, it just works, as if the background noise is part of the performance. If you close your eyes, you can almost picture yourself in a smoky, dimly lit jazz bar.

I hadn't heard this album before and I loved it. My biggest criticism is the way the updated version of the album repeats tracks, providing different versions next to each other, which isn't great for flow. But otherwise gorgeous!

First Jazz album I've ever listened to, didn't really do it for me. Very talented musicians but the music just sounds like random bass/piano playing. Didn't really feel anything from the first listen. 5/10

I had low expectations, with it being a live album and only seeing Bill Evans side-by-side with Miles Davis, I didn't think he could produce a spectacular album on his own. And yeah, he isn't on his own here. In fact, LaFaro's bass is just as important if not more outstanding than Evans' piano. Nevertheless, the trio does a fantastic job at a simple jazz performance that showcases the power of improvisation. Motian sets up the rhythm while LaFaro and Evans take turns on center stage, often colliding and complimenting each other, but you sometimes can't tell which, as if which one tends to swap every so often. Noticed there were some complimentary "lyrics" on Spotify which are quite poetic. Some people like the ambiance of the live recording, but I personally could not care for audience chatter and glass clinks, finding it a bit distracting at times. Not a huge deal since the bass and piano hone in on your attention, but I would prefer a cleaner sound. I also found Evans' to be a bit underwhelming here, even sounding a bit muffled in comparison to LaFaro. He has plenty of beautiful moments, but also many parts I found dull.

Not a big fan of jazz.

I really feel like an asshole saying it, and I wish I had gone into more in-depth thoughts when I said it for Miles Davis' "Birth Of The Cool", but all this does is remind me of Olive Garden. It certainly is easy listening, and the bass has some really impressive moments, but otherwise this is dreadfully boring background music. Perhaps if I were actually there it would be one thing, but otherwise this is just long and repetitive, only saved by it having its enjoyable moments peak out.

After enough of these live jazz albums I'm beginning to realize that I shouldn't judge these the same as most of the other albums. I began to enjoy this much more when I back to listen to it ambiently as opposed to critically like I do with most of the albums. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to translate that to a criticism and a rating because it was nice for around an hour of messing around on my phone but would've bored me if I had listened any more intently. In general, though, it was really nice, relaxing jazz and I didn't even notice that they put multiple takes of the same song on there.

When you describe a live act as "tight" you are describing an act that is not only performing at their highest capable level but are nearly symbiotic in their relationship with the minds of the other members on stage. Calling this version of Bill Evans Trio "tight" does a disservice to the players as they are operating at a level beyond even that. The bass is amazing in these sessions. The interplay and countermelodies against the piano are just groundbreaking, and the percussion is a guide keeping everyone on the path while letting them explore their surroundings. I'm so glad that these top tier Jazz recordings are included in the book, as it is the only uniquely American art form, and it would be a shame not to recognize how influential it has been on music in the 20th century and beyond.

I wish I knew what this music meant. "Waltz for Debby" was my favorite on this record.

Look, I’m not the biggest jazz fan, but even relative to the genre this feels very boring.

Reading the backstory on this album makes it very poignant. The bassist died shortly after the recording, and the songs that made this album were chosen to feature him. The bass is certainly ever-present in this album, serving, as it always does in these trios, as the glue that holds the piano and the drums together while each of them pursue their own ends. The album is beautiful. I like Bill Evans's work with Miles Davis better, but he put an incredible solo trio together, and the quality that they were able to produce is on full display here 4/5

- this is so stupid but the ambient sounds, especially the clapping, keep startling me and i keep checking behind me because it feels like someone is there. i guess you could say its immersive lol overall impressions: had a good time, i don't know a lot about jazz (ironic since i was in jazz band for four years in high school) but i liked the sound. would listen again for sure.

Again, don't know a ton about jazz but this is a really beautiful album. It's an easy one to just have on and do work or whatever. The bassist is amazing but some of the solos come off a little sloppy and don't feel like they fit in with the heart of the songs. Still a very good album, I just like it most when all three are playing together. Perfectly pleasant jazz record.

I mean, this is pretty great to stuff to just have on at all times. I didn't walk away humming it, but my brain was happy.

Really hip, and it goes down like a vintage merlot. I suppose when one thinks of sophisticated, small-combo jazz music, this represents the archetype. SatVV is accessible, cool and features some feats of quiet virtuosity. As someone learning to play piano, listening to Evans' playing is like an audio picnic. The highlight for me is 'Solar', but I adore the tenderness of 'Jade Visions'. Mad that such a landmark live performance was captured in front of what seems to be about eight people, who clap politely at the end of each song.

I've heard other Bill Evans stuff that I enjoy more, but this was some perfect background-clean-the-office music the other day. I'll never listen to it again, probably. But it didn't annoy me.

Absolutely beautiful background music for a gloomy winter day. The rain is coming down hard outside, but in here it's warm, and the music helps to warm the soul. I couldn't ever listen to jazz pieces like this on a day to day basis, but when the situation is right it's just perfect. Like a rich dessert. I don't know how I could pick a favourite out of an album that flows so well from one song to the next, but as per my self-enforced rules, I'll have to pick. Favourite: Alice in Wonderland, Take 2

I enjoy jazz, so quite liked this album. I found the piano parts particularly compelling.

Pretty easy-going listen

I started my jazz journey with Bill Evans. His playing was like no other, even if I can't really explain it. Miles Davis said that he was playing "underneath the music" and I can understand what he's saying. He made every standard his own, rendering them more intriguing, almost avant-garde in a way. Each note mattered and when can clearly feel it when we listen to him play. Add Scott LaFaro, surely one of the best bass player around, and you've got an instant classic. I think I prefer Waltz From Debby, which comes from the same concerts, but they're all mandatory as far as I'm concerned.

Smooth, high class and precise jazz. It's incredible to think it has been made live, because the playing of the musicians is an absolute perfection! I do not feel bound to those songs, but it was very well played.

Easy listening jazz but none of the songs are that distinctive. I'm curious what's supposed to make this one of the best live jazz recordings ever.

I got bored instantly, it's just very repetitive. No vocals. Literally sounds like elevator music. Sounds like it would play as background music in a curious George episode. If you are going to make music with no vocals, you have to make the instrumentals sound interesting showing that there is no need for vocals or lyrics.

I find this sort of piano pootling alternately cool with a Capital C and just plain annoying.

Bill Evans played piano on Kind of Blue and his own work pushes that cool modal jazz style even further. Evans is a master of chord voicings and interesting chord progressions that seem to meander and fall back into a groove. The bass playing is exceptional, and much more virtuosic.

It's incredible how many essential jazz albums are missing from this list (I've found the latter online). Key releases by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and many others *should* be there... So I guess when one of those records miraculously finds its way in said list, I can't complain, for once. What sounds good in *Sunday At The Village Vanguard* on first listens is how each member of the trio seems to have a telepathic sense of what the two others are about to do. Vivid shapes materialize in front of your eyes if you're paying attention to this. There are moments when you're thinking: "Damn! What is this musician doing now? He's going so far away from the other two, that's not gonna work, everything's gonna crum... Oh. It works. The others just adapted. And now he's back in line." Simply incredible. Just discovered that bassist Scott LaFaro died a few days after this session in a car accident. That's so sad. Clearly, he was at the top of his game here, and so are Evans and Motian. To conclude, here are few words about the moody closer "Jade Visions", so slow, mysterious and melancholic. Here it's not a solo that shines like the moon, but the whole piece. Spotless ending, here, perfect for a film noir scene... Nice live jazz album with a big reputation - not spectacular, but very easy to listen to.

Nice palate cleanser in between all the pop and rock music. Smooth piano playing by Evans, but don't care much for the bass solos.

Pleasant - wonderful musicianship - albeit not so memorable songs.

These guys play well together. The bass and piano soloing over each other sounded great. The thing I didn’t like was all the bass solos. Nass solos are almost as pompous as drum solos.

I get worried when I see a jazz trio with songs north of six minutes because this means I’ll be hearing a lot of bass solos and drums solos. But the solos here seem to fit in nicely and the bass playing is quite intricate. Evans isn’t a flashy player but very melodic and integrated with the other instruments. I guess if I were to listen to a bunch or trio LPs this would be pretty near the top. It captures an interesting time for me, as post-bop was becoming a little freer and less structured and the songs were more drawn out.

This album is about Synergy. Although its pretty stripped down with only piano, bass and drums, the interaction and synergy between the three band members is lighting in a bottle. The other secret ingredient here is the venue. I've been fortunate to catch some jazz acts at the Village Vanguard and the intimate ambience of the club adds mystique and even more magic to the performance. This album is pretty iconic, but what I wouldn't give to have seen and heard this live.

Geeze, I didn't know jazz could get this boring. I mean, I'm sure they're great players and all but what a waste of time and talent. Pure elevator, no backbone.

I liked this instantly. This recording sounds so great, so much space taken up by only three instruments. Bill Evans piano playing is simultaneously unpredictable, but at the same time phrases never seem surprising. Reminds me a bit of some of the Miles Davis records I like, no surprise they played together in the late 50's.

It was ok, but nothing really hooked me. I didn't dislike it in any way, but I don't have any reason to come back to it. 2.75/5

I've been listening to Jazz recently, starting with acclaimed classics and Sunday At the Village Vanguard is definitely an essential Jazz record. It's amazing musicianship and oh, so easy to listen to with it's smart grooves and cool vibe, makes this a no-brainer. A glorious afternoon listen and crystal clear live recording, it felt like they were performing in front of me! Wow, why haven't I been listened to more of this before? Even non-Jazz fans should be impressed, a must hear!

I guess I just don't have the ear for this kind of music. Had fun listening on headphones while studying though, it put me on a concentration and ethereal mood. But I can't even remember which songs pleased me or even when one was finished and a new one was starting.

It is a jazz album but wasn't overbearing. It was pleasant and relatively short.

Anyway, after a quick playlist sort, this is a delight. Really enjoy a bit of jazz but I admit I'm mostly ignorant of many of its greats, so not an album I knew. But yes, superb. Fantastic stuff.

I know far too little about jazz to know if this is good jazz or not, I assume it is? Again, maybe because I’m completely ignorant to this music I just think of it as background music that I can’t really distinguish from much other jazz music. 2/5

The trio's singularity is captured well on Sunday, but it feels like there is some compositional fire missing. For better and worse, it's a bass-driven record, and all three instruments take on the supporting role at times. That's technically very impressive, but it makes Evans's solo work on Solar shine brighter than the keys do anywhere else. However, I can't ignore the creativity and precision, somehow snagged together and live.

4.4 + As the name implies, this is perfect Sunday morning jazz when you're doing the crossword or reading a good book. I love the ambient café sounds throughout but I'm missing some of the exultant phrases and boisterous colors of some of my favorite jazz records. Still, this performance is a finely honed gem.

Really enjoyed this! I dont know about jazz enough to know why this is considered "the" live jazz album, but there were a lot of elements that really tickles my ears in a good way. Loved the buildup in "Solar", how the trio started drifting apart and then comes back together in unison, super professional and just a joy to hear. Will listen again!

It's some very classic jazz. Easy to listen to, but a little too easy. There really wasn't anything interesting about it to me.

My second favorite Bill Evans album. The trio plays seamlessly as one during Bill’s very visual compositions.

The interplay between them and the intimacy of the Vanguard gives this live performance a a gorgeous sonic stage that gives one the feeling of being there.

Very avant-garde, unreal bass playing that compliments the piano perfectly. The drums do a great job of building and dropping tension in a trio that seems to be more focussed on individual performances rather than a cohesive three parter. The drums do very well to give a sense of overall cohesion to the emotions of a particular tune. Some of the bass solos are genuinely not good as far as I can understand. Obviously he's getting up to some mad shit I've never heard of before, but it's so dissonant at parts and spacious that it feels a bit thrown together.

Big fan of the trad jazz

Listened as drive in to work music on. Friday morning.... Would have been slightly better as the home drive into the evening. Still a darn nice week of music ....

So many things I didn’t enjoy. It’s a live album which doesn’t add to the album, I just hear people in the background every once in a while and it’s distracting. It’s jazz which I don’t hate, I love when it’s integrated into other music but by it self it’s just boring to me. It needs more. The music is good just not for me at all.

It's always lovely to listen to this kind of Jazz during the morning, so this is an excellent pick for today. I know I'll be unfair in my analysis, but the problem with this album is the lack of innovation, which is very unfair for a 1961 album. Still, I already received other old Jazz albums here on this list that are also good and have a lot of innovation. In short, a great album with a great interpretation, but not remarkable as others released some years before and after.

Bad day, might be worth another listen

3.5 This is more along the lines of the type of jazz I’ve been spending the year listening to. It starts off a little rough, it doesn’t seem like they’re jelling too much with the bassist being all over the board, but by the second song it seems like they find a groove and the music becomes much more hooky. I don’t think it stands out among the jazz that I’ve heard recently, but there are a few stand out tracks that will absolutely be added to my Jazz favorites playlist. Favorites: My Man’s Gone Now, Solar, Alice in Wonderland, Jade Visions

3 I really wanted to watch some Peanuts after this. What can I say? It's a jazz record. Never something I'd rush out to listen to, but also something I'd never complain to have on. However, I really couldn't tell you what the difference between this jazz record and every other jazz record in existence is, and I definitely couldn't have told you four songs were played twice (albeit different takes) without looking at the tracklist. Overall, it's a fine enough album.

Good trio. While the band plays very well, nothing in particular stood out to me about this album. Much more interesting things were happening in the jazz world by this time, so I don't think I remember this album much.

Its hard for me to give jazz albums more than a 3 because my setting is key to my enjoyment, but in a on-the-laptop-at-work context I'm loving these jazz albums. 3/5 except when at work 5/5.

In the right mood this is a wonderful album. However it has to be the right mood or this sucks. Grab some wine sit back and enjoy someone in the kitchen cleaning dishes with jazz sounds in the background

While on my home 1001albumsgenerator project I am getting things that are more aggressive, on this one I see, that I get amazingly nice music to keep my working mood up. This album is amazing to listen, while I have my coffee and don't want to hear the noise at work, that lasts for a while. The drums are amazing.

Ok for a jazz record.

Three albums in a row over 75 minutes. And ALL were too long. This sounds like something that would be on in the background of a hipster movie theater. One that doesn’t play Marvel Movies, only independent films (well they existed when I was a teenager at least) It’s not offensive, but it’s super not interesting, either.

I'm not sure I understand jazz. I can appreciate where it comes from, and I like some of the more exciting "musical" forms, or the more explosive improv face-melters. But something like this just sounds like a bland mess. A lot of bass solo-ing, which is just a comedy of futility in my eyes. At times it does pick up and I enjoy it when the team is in sync. Nothing really catches on first listen. On second listen I enjoyed My Man's gone Now. Would not buy, would not listen after today most likely.

Beautiful. If someone asked me what jazz sounds like, this is what I would play for them. But not in a bad way!

This is the most jazziest jazz I think I've heard. If you asked me to show someone what jazz sounded like, this would be it. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of this era of jazz and much prefer the swing era but it's fine. Bill Evans was an amazing pianist and this album does give chill vibes.

A little long for my personal taste, but a fairly exquisite listen. I wish I enjoyed it a bit more. Still, it was overall a solid offering.

I like the Bill Evans Trio, I listen to their Portrait in Jazz a lot so expected to like this one more.

Nothing particularly offensive but perhaps a little too mellow for my taste - it definitely feels off the cuff, but in the most practiced way. This sort of thing will only ever be background music, and the sort that I would personally never play.

I enjoyed the album. Jazz, man. Dig it. The problem with a jazz trio is that you are not going to get a lot of variation. I mean, it's piano, bass and drums. What else are they going to do? Piano solo, bass solo, drum solo. That's it. It does start to sound a bit same-y after a while. So I can't imagine me getting the whole Bill Evans Trio collection. But a live performance like this one or two definitely cleanses the palate.

I'll say it again. I just don't get jazz. It is good, they play well. But I can't tell if this is an exceptional collection or the guys I hear at a high-end corporate dinner party. What is the difference between the two collection of songs? Nothing really stood out to me.

Took me a bit, to realise just who this was, but the more I listened the more I felt I was there.

Piano, upright bass and drums, classic combo. This was a good easy listen. Now hand me my smoking jacket and slippers.

Very pleasant. Makes me feel like I am someplace fancy. You can half listen and it's enjoyable or you can really listen and it's a feast for your brain.

Pleasant jazz trio. These days, this sound has been sooooo overplayed, it is just background music now. Is it Bill Evans' fault that the standard he perfected became the template for a thousand mediocre jazz trios, playing ever fading carbon copies of this same style for the next 60 years? This album has to be considered best in class for its type. Clearly, warmly and intimately recorded, with quiet audience atmospherics, the interplay between three player sat the peak of their powers is tight and relatively focused. The tragic death of bass player Scott LaFaro in a car accident less than two weeks after this recording adds a melancholy note to this album. I respect Evans' decision to make this album a tribute to LaFaro, by giving him a featuring credit and including two of LaFaro's compositions and choosing tracks with significant bass solos. A touching tribute.

Really very groovy!

My previous album was "Back At The Chicken Shack" by Jimmy Smith, and in comparison, this album has all the features that I dislike in a lot of jazz music. It feels directionless and impersonal. Your typical track has a piano solo, a standing bass solo, and some fun interactions between the instruments but no overall theme. It is relaxing, though.

Very cool and relaxing. Alice In Wonderland does certainly capture your attention for a moment.

Si el jazz en general me cuesta trabajo, éste tipo (si es que constituye algún subgénero) es el que me cuesta más trabajo. 2 estrellas representan que no me gustó pero que reconozco su esfuerzo y complejidad.

Muy buenos solistas y todo muy lindo pero se me hace muchísimo hacer un disco completo sobre los solos de contrabajo y más aún tenerlo en la lista. Quizá de pronto oír una rola suelta en algún momento está bien, pero hasta ahí.

Yeah kind of okay. Like nice relaxing jazz rather than chaotic stressful jazz which I def prefer. However, it's definitely missing a bit of spice for my liking as well on the other hand. It's maybe a bit to close to the dull end of the scale for my liking as well. Haha I'm quite specific with which jazz I like!

I really enjoyed how the playfulness of the trio. Can’t wait to give it another listen.

I've had several jazz albums come up now, some Afro-Cuban jazz, and smooth jazz specifically. This is the first real straight jazz album and the one thing this project has done is really given me an insight into this genre that I've never really paid any attention to. This album was very nice, I had it on as I did some work and it set a good vibe of being in the small intimate setting where a live band was playing. I can see myself getting more into this music over time.

Definitely has a Sunday feel to it, I really enjoyed it. The live setting with the clapping at the end of each piece gives a cozy, small-room feel. The recording is actually incredible as well, all of the instruments sound so full and crisp and are played extremely well by the members of the trio. 7/10

Jazzy

Oh, to be a fly on the wall (or an audience member in attendance) at the time of this performance. Apparently the last show of the trio to include bassist Scott LaFaro, this live set gave us two albums and plenty of stellar moments sprinkled throughout (from the takes of Alice in Wonderland, All of You, My Man's Gone Now, Porgy, etc.) Go out of your way to listen to whatever variation you prefer (Sunday, Waltz for Debby and/or the Complete) and immerse yourself in one of the more important nights (out of many) in jazz history.

This was a nice listen, but I'm no jazz aficionado so it kind of sounded like any other trio jazz album. Great music for working, though!

Bill Evans is an absolute genius on the piano. I'd put him right up there with Oscar Peterson. This album creates a very soothing ambience that I really enjoy. The 'banter' between the bass and piano is playful at times, and you can tell the trio never falls out of sync. The quiet conversation and clinking of glasses leaking through this live recording at times makes me feels right at home. Fave tracks: All of You - Take 2, Alice in Wonderland - Take 1

Even though this is labeled as the Bill Evans trio, the real star of the show to me was the bassist, that man was riffing. Very sad to hear he died shortly after this recording. I really enjoyed the muffled sounds of the bar crowd in the background, adds to the ambiance of this album, perfect rainy Sunday afternoon listen. To me, this is a good jazz album with some good players, but it didn't do enough to stand above the crowd.

Eh, not really my thing. I'm sure they're super talented fellas, but it just sounds like pointless meandering to me. 2 stars.

I hate jazz so much.

I enjoyed this but had my usual issue with this kind of jazz where when it gets into the long form improvisation it just seems like noodling around scales. I know this makes me a low brow but there it is.

I think I've listened to a track or two from the Bill Evans Trio before. Sunday at the Village Vanguard is good music. I'd easily agree to listen to more from the band, but nothing stood out calling me back for a second listen.

This was nice, even though its not really my thing, I'm sure it's influential and fabulous and all that stuff too but it was nice background music while I cooked

Glorious cool jazz - put it on and ignore it and let it create a relaxing atmosphere for you, or pay attention and be rewarded at all the details you can hear. Works either way! Fave track - eh, they blend together so I don't have a firm favourite - "Alice in Wonderland", let's say...

This is indeed, like they say, one of the best jazz live albums of all time. Bill Evans was one of the greats when it comes to piano, and the clearness and strongness of his style are captured very well in this record. The best thing Evans did was leave Miles Davis' band in 1959 and form his own trio, since Scott LaFaro' bass and Paul Motian' drums were a perfect match for his refinement. It's a shame that this trio only produced four albums and one have to wonder what else they would gift us if it wans't for LaFaro's tragic death. But to end on a lighter note, the performances of "My Man's Gone Now" and "Solar" are essencial jazz.

A bit of jazz with a bit of swing. Goes off into free form sometimes which doesn’t go well with my brain. My brain likes patterns.

Is this gonna be jazz? Yeah, it was jazz. Not too bad really, not my cup of tea overall but I didn't mind listening even though it went for an hour. Turned out to be a fun soundtrack to getting punished in Elden Ring. Some weird percussion sounds though - I kept thinking something inside my flat was making a noise but it was the music haha. 3/5.

There’s a Bill Evans record I really like, I think it’s with his trio right around this time. For the life of me I can’t remember what it’s called, I want to say Impressions? Any way this is okay, great playing but not groundbreaking.

Lovely jazz piano. Bill Evans is my favourite jazz pianist and this is an absolute classic by him: it has a more mellow, down-beat feel than something like Monk that speaks to my sad-boy vibes. Would likely rate 5/5 if I had listened to it more but it isn't one of my staples (yet). We're on a 4.5/5
