Reviews (page 10 of 12)
Smooth jazz so far. Enjoyable. I'm not enough of a jazz aficionado to tell if this is groundbreaking or not. Sounds like how most jazz sounds to me.
jazzy mc jazz. s'okay.
Very good jazz album, and impressive for being live. I have heard better jazz though.
It's Jazz, it's fine.
3.5. I want to like this more, but can’t seem to find the inspiration.
Jazz is fun
Easy listening
Production: 10/20 Songwriting: 12/20 Innovation: 11/20 Bangers: 0/20 Emotional response: 12/20 =45 Noice bit of Jazzy background so fine
I guess I like jazz?!
Self indulgent jazz. Liked it for sure
Relaxing record!
Fred Armisen has a great bit on when your mind starts to drift while listening to jazz. While I enjoyed this, it was mostly background music while I was working and working on my Vietnamese. Favorite track: "My Man's Gone Now"
Very jazzy
3.5! good music to read to
Trad jazz utan blåsinstrument, bara piano, trummor och bas. Lite väl slött. Objektivt: 5 Subjektivt: 2 Totalt: 3!
A bit too freeform for my liking. I also found the crowd noise distracting.
Do the musicians hear each other or are they isolated in different rooms? With these records I never found out.
Talented. Should not be on 1001.
Jazzy kind of musak. Nice morning background music that doesn’t require much focus. Two stars bc I’m not likely to play it again
Not for me unfortunately x
Meg
A little too low-key for a whimsical and high energy fella like me
Fuck no. Gets a couple of stars for releasing 40+ albums.
Clearly I must be some kind of uncultured swine but this sounded like the most generic-ass Jazz I'd ever heard.
Didn’t really listen
It was fine. This is the kind of jazz I actually like a decent amount, however even then I felt the album was a bit overlong. Not any structure to the tracks; it was ultimately just freestyle solos over shifting chord structures. Not something I’d love to listen to again but not terrible. The audible talking in the background was the worst part.
Oh, goodie, Jazz is back. Yay… This concludes a really bad week of music for me on this site. Sometimes it be like that. First things first, I don’t really like Jazz. Reviewing it is the worst part of all. I can’t contribute anything articulate well enough for an album where the entire point is to be nonsensical with no rhyme, reason or cohesion. Some Jazz is fine. None of it is amazing or really worth listening to. Most of it is bad. This is one of the bad and uninteresting ones. Is that a good review? Obviously not, but the only things I can think to say about this album are negatives. It sounds like the dude is just waffling about the entire time, like he’s never played an instrument in his life. This goes on for an hour, because of course it does, and it just sounds like a practice session where a bunch of kids thought the instruments looked cool. Again, it’s Jazz. I don’t have a favorite song. I could only bear to listen to this twice before I had to turn it off. I can’t keep reviewing Jazz albums like this. Surely, some of them have to be good. The ones with careful planning that aren’t Freeform are mostly fine. But this?? Even the other reviewers on the website have this as slightly below average. Mostly this has been getting 3’s, but I think those are from people that actually like Jazz albums to begin with. Even then, that says a lot that even amongst fans of the genre where you play an aimless, maddening jerk off session, the consensus on the website is that it’s just not that good. This might be my shortest review in a long while. I don’t know man, if I’ve learned one thing above all else on this site, it’s that Jazz albums are the hardest to write reviews for. I’m going to read some of the long form reviews of this album after posting this to get a better understanding of what I’m supposed to be seeing here, because man, I kinda really dislike this, and most Jazz music as a whole. This album is not helping on that front at all. Even worse knowing this was my weekend album. Oh well, let’s hope this upcoming week gets me off the rough patch the site has bestowed upon me. Until then!!
2,2/5
I don`t feel like i`m into jazz so i cannot say something that was enjoyble in this album. But i did enjoy the vibe it creates
It’s nothing against the album, it’s nice, I just can’t abide this type of Jazz as an active listening experience
It's not that this is bad, I just really don't like jazz
With all due respect, this type of free form piano jazz isn't for me, especially when in most cases, the next track is just a slightly different version of the track before. There's no doubting the quality of the pianist. The double bass player might have been ground breaking at the time, but it's not anything I enjoyed listening to and it all sounds really similar. It's not that it's bad, it just rarely becomes more than background noise. Sorry, but it's a low 2 stars from me.
Color me way too mellow.
Not awful, but definitely not my flavor of jazz. It's elevator music. Horns, please.
Sounded like music that plays in the background of Macy's
Fine for what it is was but no real variety to the songs.
I think I'd have to be in the right zone. Realistically I enjoyed this less than most of the albums I've given 3 stars, so it has to be a 2, but this doesn't diminish the technical talent on display, or that I could easily seeing this being far higher for someone else.
Pleasant jazz. Sort of thing I’d be quite happy to hear played live in a bar and would politely applaud after each track. Would I think to myself “wow everyone has to hear this before they die!”? Well no. Absolutely not.
Very nice cool jazz. Other than that nothing else to add, enjoyed it but as “background” music
Rating: 5/10 Well performed. I don't love this so much, all of the compositions feel very...samey/not distinct from each other? At least on first listen that's how it seemed. The bass is just kinda doing its interesting improvisations while the pianos chime against the soothing background percussion. I like the way the drums started to pick up at the end of All of You. I don't care as much for the mellow easy listening cool jazz style. I struggle with actually enjoying my time with it and wouldn't put it on, I can appreciate it for its quality. Basically it could be good but it's not my thing
I enjoyed the album but let's be real, even I don't think anybody wants to listen to a bass solo on every single track
Jazz. I don’t really like jazz. I think this is probably decent jazz but what do I know…
Too Jazzy for me
Voll öde

just jazznope
not my cup of tea
1.8/5 not able to rly get into this one jazz club vibe
Best Track - "Jade Visions"
Kinda shit Fletcher from Whiplash would kill a kid to make. A technically great performance by three technically great performers, but for a guy like me who don't know dick from butt, it was just lounge music.
Jazz just isn’t what I want to listen to. Recognized some melodies throughout, but had a hard time appreciating any of it.
to me it seemed quite unnoteworthy.
I think I wanted to like this more than I did. I probably wasn’t in the right frame of mind to properly appreciate it and I ended up listening to it in a few parts which doesn’t help, but I found this a little boring, unfortunately.
lift music
This was a bit too experimental for me. For me, a lot of the songs just felt jarring.
Uh
Lindo para poner de fondo mientras laburas
Not the biggest fan of jazz piano and bass. For some reason it doesn't do it for me
I just can’t get into Jazz. But I’m sure it’s good if you like this sort of thing.
It's ok jazz, just not terribly interesting jazz. It's background music, with nothing commanding that I pay attention. Everyone is doing their own thing, not super cohesively, so I could garner different things with each subsequent listen. But really, it's not enough to keep me terribly interested. I also cannot differentiate between songs. They all make just one lump of music that is indistinguishable from the next.
Thank you for this cultural experience. I still don’t enjoy jazz.
Jazz is just not for me. Good background though
Drab
First impression? Café background music. Pleasant enough. I'll try to have more of an active listen tho. I mean, it's not bad, it's very technically proficient, easy to listen to, everyone especially the bassist are amazing players. It's just... it is what it is, and nothing more. It's some unobtrusive jazz performed well. I can't really say anything else about it. Very well executed background music.
delightful
Forgive me but this type of jazz does not appeal to me in the slightest
4/10 I'm not a big fan of jazz, but an album I got last week (Charles Mingus) was making me rethink that opinion. Unfortunately, this album does nothing to ameliorate my feelings towards the genre. Boring, boring, boring. Elevator music.
Listening session: march 31th, while commuting to internship Listened to before: no Thoughts: I’ve had multiple jazz albums with the generator and I still find it difficult to fully understand and enjoy jazz. I liked some tracks on this album but I also found some parts too long and boring Favourite tracks: My Man’s Gone Now & Alice In Wonderland - Take 2
Puh
The band that comes on for Sunday brunch at your Grammy's assisted living place.
My monthly reminder that I don’t like jazz very much
Fine, upscale cocktail bar music. Nothing here to hold my interest.
Slow, kind of boring jazz. Inoffensive. Don’t need to hear again.
Very pleasant to listen to. Enough going on to keep my attention. Although, not typically into classical. 6/10
youtube free music in the 1001 albums i need to hear? ¡weird!
An okay album, no real stand out songs.
Perfectly fine light instrumental sounds perfect in a dining or social setting where the music is not to be the main focus and should not drown out the conversation. Would I recognize it if I ever heard it again? Not a chance. Do I care? Not really.
i love jazz but i need smth more conceptual
This kind of thing sets my teeth on edge because it’s so bland. Not for me :/
Not my type of jazz
Jazz just isn’t for me, but it was pleasant!
no lyrics and didn’t really like the vibe
Very nothingy. Barry B Benson would enjoy it
Great background Jazz, talented and vibrant in many places, just not for me
this must be really good if you like boring piano music
Another live album....just don't get the appeal. The music was all over the place, little to no discernable melody. I get that is a major characteristic of jazz music, but it doesn't have a lot of appeal for me. Songs go on for too long.
I’ve never liked jazz and I think I’ve finically figured out why. It feels to me that the musicians are all playing their own thing in spite of what anyone else is doing. Yes they are all on the same tempo, but it’s like they are all practicing in the same room together than playing a song. I honestly can’t tell the difference between much of these tracks. They all are showing off at times how fast they can play a riff or rhythm. It seems like a very selfish way of playing “music” as a musician in my opinion.
Hard to listen to for me. Maybe im not old enough to apprechiate this, but would need this record in my collection.
Am I in a Charlie Brown movie?
relaxing background music
Deliberately unobtrusive tinkling music for wine bars.
I'm just not that into jazz.
I don't like instrumental music. The music isnt too bad just looking for a lyrical vocal work right now. Maybe ill save it for background.
I enjoy music like this, to a point. This felt very homogenous to me though. When you only have 10 tracks on a record and 4 of them are different takes of earlier songs, that felt a little strange to me. In the end, I just wasn't that thrilled with this album.
Pleasant enough. Something went wrong when I added this to a playlist and a bunch of tracks seem to have been doubled, which made it feel like the album was four hours long. May deserve another spin someday.
Irriterende mye kjatring i bakgrunnen på Alice in Wonderland.
Maybe I don’t get jazz?
The first song gave off Charlie Brown vibes, and I never really recovered from that.
Good piano jazz
I could do without all the extended bass solos, in all honesty some of them sound like a kid just plucking away. I'm convinced the guy was just going to town and the rest of the trio were trying to make sense of what's happening. Albums like this are why I'm not a jazz guy. Clearly talented musicians but it just never gets off the "we are kicking around ideas to see what sticks" stage for me.
i have no opinion on this
Ya like Jazz?
Not my favorite Jazz. Evans's pianist skills are impressive and this being live does bring a more immediate vibe to it, but it ends up sounding pretty same-y to me. Key tracks: Gloria's Step
Pleasant jazz album that I sort of connected with some of the time. I liked the beginning of most songs, then they lost me as they got jazzier in the back half. 2.5 rounded down.
Not what I expected, I like the jazz but I didn’t love this album.
Ultimately I think this was lost on me
Great individual talent exhibition, however, no cohesion amongst the artists. This is the jazz music people point to when they say it sounds like random notes.
coolest jazz for cool evening. excellent and pretentiously
I love a good jazz trio, but this was not it for me. They have all the elements: a good walking bass, discordant piano, drum kit and high hat. The thing is, each member seemed to do their own thing, totally unrelated to one another. The whole thing felt like a jam band just messing around with no plan or intention. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t love it as much I had expected.
So much of this just sounds like random notes to me
Inoffensive background music in a hotel bar
Umm
Well made very boring jazz
Fyrir. Mér er þetta allt sama chill lagið
Jazz er alltaf góður, í svona 10 sekúndur.
I thought I liked jazz but this website is changing my mind. Yikes.
A pleasant listen, but not especially memorable for me. Bill Evans’ piano is beautiful throughout, and the bass work really stands out. Still, on several tracks I felt the absence of a vocalist, which made it harder for me to fully connect. Probably one to revisit when I’m more in the mood for intimate, conversational jazz.
I'm sure this is perfectly good jazz if you're into this sort of thing.
staccato and discordant jazz makes my brain unsettled, it's hard to listen along to and find groove. piano was good though
i mean it's jazz
This was something out of my comfort zone but I feel this would be amazing on vinyl as background noise. Top song: Alice in Wonderland, Gloria's Step
Haven’t listen to much jazz in my life but I had and decent time with this album. Although to me it felt like there was a lot of wasted space just bloating the album but I guess it live so it makes sense.
Worked better as background music. Not overly jazzy.
Second star is for being good background music.
Listenable. But repetitive. Not the best jazz for me.
Would be good as a background music or a smoky bar. Feel I don’t appreciate it enough as I am not a musician
Favourites: 1. Alice In Wonderland
Fun background listening. Certainly swings. Fave tracks: Solar
Jazz álbum, it’s difficult to listen
Again technically this is clearly excellent, and the double bass work is extraordinary but it’s really not for me
A bit too much jazz and too little melody and groove for my taste.
Not my kind of thing
Boring
Probably okay background music. The kind that is played so quietly you don't even notice when it stops but it's pleasant nonetheless.
It's a Jazz Album...
love jazz but I’m never gonna randomly listen to this again Cool tho
It's fine, I get why people like this type of stuff but I'm personally more of a lyrics girlie. For me, it tends to blend together after a while. Maybe if i'm reading this could be background noise but I honestly do not see myself coming back to it. Sorries. P.S. I'm pretty sure this is private, but if it's not you're not allowed to get mad at me. These are just notes for myself :)
This was some nice enough background music, but it didn't really satisfy what I was after today. Maybe my IQ just isn't high enough to appreciate the genius on offer here.
I enjoy jazz, but the bass work on this record loses me. Instead of feeling like a deliberate, exploratory jam, the lines often drift into something that reads more like unfocused wandering. When the trio locks in, it’s wonderful - Evans’ touch is unmistakable, and the group interplay can be gorgeous. But the bass solos break the spell for me. They feel less like intentional improvisation and more like hesitant, almost chaotic meandering. There’s a looseness here that might click for some listeners, but to my ear it comes across as confused and a little sloppy.
Perfectly fine. The audio quality didn't really help it either. The panning pissed me off I will be honest having the bass in my left ear and the melody in my right annoyed me to no end. Favorite Track: All of You
Nice 3 Instrument Jazz just flowing, lead changing between the 3, something you'd rather want to see live.
No doubt these musicians are very skilled but I am not in the proper mood for this. The ventures of the bass player sounded like forrays into other songs that I'm not hearing. It messes with my groove. Sure there's plenty of layers but this is a goldmine for someone else.
Not sure why you'd go to the trouble of coming up with six titles, and then just play the same thing six times. It's a pretty good same thing, but still.
Not quite my type of music but you know, if I ever need a jazz album to be played, it will certainly have a priority upon the list. It surely has this "sunday morning" vibe, but yet we still have full other 6 days ahead...
Sounds like I am sitting inside of a restaurant and this is just the background music
Gave me anxiety at times.
2/5 - Seems like decent jazz which just isn't my thing, very good for background music though
I liked it for a jazz album, but I was trying to work on some spreadsheets & it made it hard to concentrate. I don't know if I really liked this, but I'd give it a second chance.
It’s fine if you like this kinda thing. I don’t.
I mean, I respect this but I just cant get into it. It feels rudderless. I dont know when one song ends and another begins. I walked away 2/3 of the way through it and forgot all about it. Great musicians though.
Ahhhh.... Anxiety ridden tunes, last one was more chill.
Taking inspiration from Terry I played this on the office speaker/watering can. "What's that you've gone on?" My colleagues asked. Surprised I said "Oh, you don't know!? Why, it's clearly the Bill Evans Trio and what many regard as the greatest live jazz album of all time". Now they know I'm even cooler than they thought.
My jazz radar might be out of tune, but this ain't exciting nor interesting
I like Jazz and all but this one is giving me anxiety. 2 stars.
Live album of very well performed cool jazz. Cool.
This is the type of jazz I struggle with. It’s just so dry and meandering. I don’t think there’s a lack of talent or that this album is a waste of time, I just think this isn’t really for me. I listened to whole album front to back a couple of times in a row, and aside from being super chill and atmospheric, this album did almost nothing for me. And despite listening to it several times, I forgot most if not all of the tracks on this album. Perfectly competent jazz album, but also a super dry dated version.
Ehhhh not my thing
That "everyone play a different song" kind of jazz. Not for me.
Overall: 4/10 I can appreciate the talent involved in making this, I just don't enjoy listening to it. Jazz is already hit or miss for me and it's even worse when it's improvisational. I try to find something to hook onto and I just can't. Fav Song: Alice in Wonderland
Puerto Rico listen. It was fine. Had it on in the background while reading. It was just there but nothing really caught my ear.
Nice but not a huge instrumental fan day to day
Slow, not my kind of music
Instrumental jazz just bores me to tears. Good instrumentation though.
If I have learned anything so far in these albums, it is that I don't seem to be a very big fan of jazz. I thought I might like it more, since I like rock tunes with a jazzy feel. For me, the piano in this is too sharp on the ears, to the point it bothers me, and I turned the volume down. It's not repulsive, like some of the garbage on this list, I'd say a 2.33 rounded down to 2.
The music is fine. The inclusion of background noise, including incessant talking, is moronic. Subtracts entirely.
not my cup of jazz
Seems like some standard lounge jazz with a bit of improv, especially on the bass. This didn't really move me at any particular point. It was nice background music.
Not a Jazz man...still not...maybe when I am older, sitting in a quite cafe with a wiskhey and feeling a bit melancholy...maybe
Pas mon style de musique mais passable 2/5
The jazziest jazz to ever jazz, the ur-jazz. I know there's skill involved but not skill I'm interested in
As a non-cultured jazz listener I can well believe i'm missing something fantastic here, but it left me cold. Lack of brass lent to what felt like a repetitive listen with each song blending into one. Perfectly good for the background of a hotel lobby, and I did enjoy the slight 'leakage' of the glasses chinking and crowd chatting from the live recording. 4/10
Another live album, aye? It's been a good while since I last got inundated with these. I thought I'd exhausted the supply, though I guess I need to get back into the swamp. I'll spare the rigmarole for why I find these albums hard to engage with and just hop right into it. Oh no, it's a jazz album. Oh no, it has 5+ minute songs. We are currently at three out of my four deadly album sins. I always forget what the fourth one is, though, so we may already have a full house. Anyways, this isn't half bad. The performances and mastering are both pretty commendable - I lost track of the fact that I was listening to a live album multiple times throughout this. Admittedly, that wasn't just the only thing I lost track of, as this music kind of blends into the background. That being said, I can appreciate something inoffensive and relaxing. "Gloria's Step" is a good opener. A very elegant and relaxing instrumental. "Alice in Wonderland" has a nice melody. The piano performance is the strongest part, much like most of the songs on here. Very free-flowing, yet also quite precise and deliberate. The bassy, jazz sound in the background is nice, too. "Jade Visions" is a good send-off to the album. Quite sombre and slow-moving. I dig the atmosphere. Book time. "One of the most widely influential pianists of the 1960s". Evans' band has a strong dynamic. Wikipedia reveals that this is regarded as one of the best live jazz albums of all time. Yeah, I can side with this inclusion. Always favourable to an true oldie pick, and this is a good rep for the "live jazz" niche.
Liked some, but not for me
Tylore gets filtered by jazz - continued. Was going to make a joke about old man Bill Evans being a 30 year old on the cover, but then learned he was actually 30 there (kill me)
Its OK. very much jazz and nothing but. I'm sure its inspiring to some but it's mostly plinking to me.
Mmm, a bit of a slower jazz album. I think it's fine but I've given it a listen maybe 3x now and it just always fades into the background. I'm sorry to all three Paul Evans, but it's mid to me. A solid 2.5.
Yeah... Bass solos are far more entertaining in person... Ok album.
Why more jazz?? At least this didn’t have any brass in it. It was more piano and drums.
8 albums in and randomly been given two pure jazz ones, a genre that I'm not a fan of. At least this one is piano based and acts like 'restaurant music' but still something I will never listen to again!
Read that this was regarded as one of the best live jazz albums of all time. Be that as it may, to me it sounds like one of the more generic jazz records I’ve heard. Everything sounded sort of the same throughout the whole record. There was barely any feeling of different songs throughout the whole record, and each song had no real hook or interesting parts that made them stand out. While this certainly gave me the same coziness vibes as all jazz does, it otherwise failed to feel unique and stand out among other jazz albums. Strong 2.
Jazz that just past me by. I found no specific hooks or anything to peak my attention. It had that nice smooth jazz feel but I failed to find anything special with it.
While I generally love this sound, there's no chance I'm listening to two back to back live versions of the same fucking 8-minute long song. Cool sound, super talented musicians, tedious album.
It could be that this isn't my genre, but all of the 'songs' blended together. It seemed like 2 hours of a jam session.
Didn't get through this all, but I'm afraid another jazz album with little motivation, drive, or interest. Clearly talented, but amounting to nowt.
Franchement, musique de fond/20
Didn't love it. Plus being live there are people talking and glasses clinking in the background
Very interesting as I’ve never listened to a jazz record before. Made me feel sophisticated, but I will never listen to this on my own.
I can’t hate it They’re clearly very talented But jazz is not for me
If you like this kind of stuff maybe this is great? To me it just sounds like inoffensive music you would hear vaguely in the background at a coffee shop.
Starts out promisingly enough. But devolves into total bass wankery. The piano is great. SHRUG.
I’m simply not jazzy or spontaneous enough for this one
Still struggling with jazz and i don't think this album is my gateway moment. A bit too bassy for me.
This was just not one of the jazz albums for me lol it all sounded the same and I just couldn't really get into it !
I think I just don't get jazz.
Uninteresting
This reminds of reviewing wine. People taste notes of woolen mittens and railroad ties while to my untrained tongue it tastes like boozy grapes. This type of jazz has the same affect.
If I’m getting an Old Fashioned, this is just fine. While I’m pressure washing my deck, it isn’t the best choice.
Background jazz...really unremarkable. 2/5
Old times, instrumental only
All jazz sounds the same to me- boring.
Didn't do much for me. Listened as far as Solar then called it a day
Just Jazz. Don’t get it.
Just sounds like any other lounge jazz I’ve heard
No lo he disfrutado mucho.
Jazz. Piano jazz. Just an awful genre. Burn the piano and get that bassist some guitars to play with.
Jazzy jaz
*casual noodling* 2/5
I’ve heard better jazz trio albums. And I’ve heard worse. Just not my thing and got a bit same after a bit.
Still not a jazz fan.
There's some jazz which satisfies the soul, and improves your day. There's some jazz which is someone trying to create noises that haven't been heard before, while bandmates just noodle around, completely independently. Unfortunately, this album veers towards the latter.
Not a huge jazz person, this just sounds like background music at a fancy restaurant
Maybe this is good, maybe this is bad, either way, it’s definitely easy to ignore.
Not for me
Haven't heard of Bill Evans before. I don't really listen to jazz though I do find the music quite cool. But this album? Didn't really do anything for me 2/5
I did not use a private Spotify session for this one. It was about what I expected, up tempo jazz but it was a little too frantic for my taste.
I'm sorry, but I got SO bored 😭 I appreciate this is great jazz pianoing but it's not for me.
at first I was like - Not another Jazz album, this is not going to be fun... But as I have with the other 16 or so albums (yes Even the Strokes) I dutifully hit play and honestly, it was fine.
Background music at best. I'm going to have to stop giving all jazz a 3 because it's becoming very boring. There is far too much jazz on this list. Listening to one jazz album basically means you've heard them all.
I feel bad for giving this album a lower rating because I think enjoying instrumental music is above my ears pay grade.
Slow background jazz. Not unlistenable. But weird. 2/5
Jazz without horns. I love the bass playing. This is not bad but it's far from memorable. 2.25/5
Jazz
I’m just not a jazz gal
It’s just jazz, if that’s your thing
Honestly couldn't finish it. It was fine, but just wasn't dynamic enough for me. The little weird bass solos kinda threw me off too.
not for me, too mellow
Meh. Fine for background but not my vibe.
Bit too heavy on the bass, man. I am not a jazz-hater but this was too samey for my taste. And I didn't rate any of the bass work - the solos seemed too long and random. You know something's not right when you're wishing for it to be the final track. Maybe nice to have on as background in a coffee shop, but not for me as a focus piece. 2
Not really my kind of jazz. A bit boring and monotonous for my ears. Some nice passages.
Ranked as one of the best live jazz albums of all time, but—it’s not. Sure, it’s nice enough, mostly saved by LaFaro’s bass lines doing the heavy lifting. And man is it heavy. If you’re after music that’s basically a warm bath for your ears while you cradle a Sunday coffee and let the paper (or app) spill bad news, this’ll do.
Very sleepy songs overall. Fine a calm background music but not much more.
É... eu não gosto de jazz
Not all jazz is boring but this jazz is 2
This albums sounds good, but it just doesn't really grab me. I don't think this is nearly interesting enough to make it on this list.
Sometimes I tell myself that I like jazz, then I'll hear this and think "why is that guy hitting random notes"
I think of jazz in the same vein as poetry. I can’t always distinguish one song or poem from the other, but I can sense their beauty. Sometimes, it can become one song. One poem. Only separated by the applause in between. I can’t tell you one song I liked more than the others, but this was a nice way to wake up.
I love jazz, and actually also some Bill Evans Trio albums. This is also good, but I think there’s too much upright bass melody/noodling gong on for my taste
Jazz is not my preferred genre. I'll be the first to tell you that. It's a good album and the mix is great sounding, but after a while it gets a bit grinding. And quite literally, songs start to repeat themselves. after 20-25 mins, it got jarring and turned it off.
I love jazz. This one was a bit dull.
It's fine in the background. I can tell it's good Jazz but I only like very particular kind of Jazz. This is too slow for me.
Didn’t move the needle much for me
Snoozy Jazz. Pretty. But for background
Bill's piano was the highlight, but I was quite unimpressed given this was one of the most beloved jazz record of all time. Maybe it'll grow on me eventually.
As the antithesis to a Jazz enthusiast, I can't say this does anything whatsoever for me. Much much more pleasant and preferable to a lot of the proper frenetic brass-y jazz which I actively derive displeasure from, however this seems no different to me than just very capable cocktail lounge music
buenisimo
I can never bring myself to give a jazz album one star, because I know it’s my lack of understanding that is the problem. But over four hundred albums in, this was one of the most difficult to make myself listen to the whole way through. Dullllll. 1.5
#550. Jazz 2/5: jazz
Jazz. I do not like jazz that very much.
Not for me
I think that it's great that people like jazz; however, I'm done pretending that I understand or enjoy it. Viva la difference - but it's not my thing.
There is a lot of good playing on this album, none of which comes close to producing anything resembling an emotion. I hate to take it out on what are surely very talented musicians. I just don't get it.
Kinda music you pretend to feel when on a date at the Green Mill
I like the band, but this was kind of a snooze fest. Not unpleasant but Waltz for Debby is far superior imo
jkh,g
Not my type.
It really doesn't help that there are 286438 different versions of this album and recordings for each song. Some of it was really good and had me tappin and grooving to some emails but other parts dragged on and felt clashy. I'm not versed in Jazz enough to "get it"
Just not my scene
No words, very interesting
Jazz.
Just absolutely not for me. Not as bad as the last jazz they made me listen to, which was some kind of "punk" jazz but still made me feel like I was at the dentist's office.
It was a struggle to try and get through this one. Not sure if I wasn't in the mood or it just wasn't for me
I'm not really a jazz person. I've never heard of these people. I like Liana Flores and she's sort of jazzy. I have a couple jazzy playlists I play sometimes (in love with you jazz + kipper sunday). And I'm not dressed for this kind of music. I'm dressed, today, for Bikini Kill. But this is still very pleasant. I'd take a walk to this. I'd go grocery shopping to this or maybe I'd drink tea and eat toast on my porch. It's lovely. A little long, though, and I do prefer Liana Flores. It all sounds the same. If I listen for too long, it all becomes mush and slightly annoying, even. But it's reminiscent of PBS kids shows -- Curious George or Eloise. I don't know why but it reminds me of being a kid. I enjoy it but it's not totally remarkable.
2 - old
Another drag to listen to, like the rest of the jazz albums I've had. I'm sure the jazz connoisseurs of this website will be no doubt creaming themselves whilst listening to it. Not for me though. I'll go cream to some Bolt Thrower, my beloved.
Fans of the upright bass will love this album. I, unfortunately, am not. The audience chatter and background noise was also too distracting.
Nice jazz
Probably not built for the modern age, I'm sure I would appreciate this being played live in front me but to my ears this isn't really my thing. I do appreciate what's going on though, incredibly technically proficient drumming and piano playing would provide calming backdrop to a cool bar. I also enjoy hearing the conversation in the background of tracks like 'Alice In Wonderland' which makes me feel like I'm right where its being recorded. However, I don't particularly appreciate that most of the album repeats itself leading to me having to listen to the same song twice before I can move on to the next. For my current ears this isn't my thing but in the right setting it could be higher but purely as background music, SATVV doesn't hold up well to active listening but whilst searching for my girlfriends presents for valentines day it did help with focus. 5/10 Technically good but unlikely to revisit any time soon. Top Tracks -> Gloria's Step -> Solar -> Alice In Wonderland
Forgetable Jazz. Sounds like background music.
I was looking forward to this, but it turns out it is precisely the kind of whisk whisk plinky plonky piano jazz that made me think I didn’t like jazz for the first three decades of my life.
Are we sure Scott LaFaro knew how to play? Is his bass tuned correctly? The piano and drums were very nice, but even when not the centerpiece, the bass never sounded fully in tune. I'm all for some spicy chords and the occasional out there solo, but the CONSTANT aimless atonal bass waffling is not for me. Jade Visions was the best track simply for the least bass.
Not a huge Jazz guy. Sounded nice, and similar to other jazz i've heard over the years. My ear is untrained and my brain is ignorant, so this might be a groundbreaking and innovative album. Just not my cup of tea.
Nice background listening but everything sounded the same lol
Highbrow albums like these are annoying bc I have nothing to say but I also didn’t hate it. 2.5/5 bc it’s boring
skimmed thru this one bc i have no patience for jazz in general. this sounds like the blueprint for every jazz record ever. music to listen to the rain fall to. great for whoever gets a kick out of that kind of sound, boring for me. bye
Elevator music
Instrumental and live. Neither of which I'm interested in. And smooth jazz is pretty much the definition of background music. There is no way this album could possibly get anything other than a 2 from me. Best song: Jade Visions
Good journaling tunes, but not really following it otherwise.
it looped and i genuinely couldnt tell i dont care for lounge jazz
Doing this 1001 albums thing has been a real eye opener. I know some of the original bands that are now called Prog Rock cut their teeth in jazz clubs. And that several of the more modern bands describe them selves as jazz fusion. And that with modern instruments and equipment there is a lot more sounds and effects available to modern musicians. But I really don't understand why when I listen to this sort of music, jazz from back in the day, which can be described as the grandparent of modern Prog Rock, why do I find it...... well, tedious. It just doesn't have that quality that grabs you. Sorry, I know you were trail blazers in your day, but by today's standards you're just boring. 2
