Reviews (page 10 of 14)
It's the classic cool jazz album that actually sounds cool and not over complex. And it contains the famous Take Five song. What's not to like?
'Take Five' was played by a friend's group during college, it's nice to hear it again ^^
This was a classic! Very soothing. I enjoyed it.
Solid jazz, really enjoyable.
I'm not musical enough to recognise experimental time signatures. To me, this sounds like a cool, fun, chilled jazz album, which is the kind of jazz I enjoy. Recorded in 1959, but sounds timeless. It seems like the group achieved exactly what they set out to do. I can't fault it. 4/5.
8.5/10
Love this type of music to work to
Mis canciones favs: - take five -Kathy ´s waltz - Pick up Sticks
Very much enjoyed the drum solos and polyrhythms on this.
Classic, great album
Take Five is just so good. Never gets old. The rest also quite nice, like Kathy's Waltz how it combines a straight ahead beat with 3/4 piano.
Good jazz
Discovered odd time signatures through this. Timeless
‘Blue Rondo à la Turk’ was fantastic, lively, energetic; it was everything you could have wanted from a jazz song. I actually recognised ‘Take Five’ which I was not expecting!
Knew about half of the songs before. Classic album.
super clean sound. despite the odd time signatures it's very listenable.
Okay, generally liked this whole jazz album. It was more clearly defined and melodic, very chill. I really like Take Five (although I didn't know the song's name or artist until now)
Good, easy listening stuff. Would think quite radical at the time
already heard m8 but still a bop
Fantastic album. Very fun to listen to.
Chilled ones. Good for WFH but also with a vape
Some classics! I recognized and especially enjoyed both Take Five and Blue Rondo a la Turk
jazzy
Enjoyed the melodic jazz vibes, not overly distracting or frantic - just pleasant.
Also mir gefällts richtig gut, da ist locker ne 3,7 drin.
Love Dave Brubeck. I throw him on every now and then for cooking or doing work, and this album has some great tracks. This was great background music, actually finished a book while listening.
Great! A bit repetitive for me but I guess it's because i'm not used to listen to jazz. But it's really really good!
Jazz session.
All (but the 1st song) are great
Muy jazz. Bueno, pero puede hacerse monótono a ratos. Incluye la conocida Take Five.
Classic Brubeck, couple of bangers but probably matched my tastes a decade ago more than now. Still a pleasure to listen to.
I actually had this album in high school. It might be white people jazz, but I love it. It's just so pleasant to listen to. Unimposing yet engaging. Great work day album.
Top quality cool jazz! Fave track - while "Time Out" is a classic, I'm gonna pick "Blue Rondo à la Turk" for the playfulness!
I love Dave Brubeck. He was one of the first that showed me how important time signatures were and how atypical time could be so intriguing.
Great album, with some monster songs in terms of cultural presence, not the least of which "Take Five." I haven't said this about an album yet, but I actually wished it was longer. The band sounds great and it felt like they were just warming up.
sick sleeve
A bop
Fav: Take Five
Smooth and very relaxing
Pleasant
Actually know a few songs on this album. Might be the first Jazz album I've ever listened to in its entirety. So the rating might reflect that: B-
I won't even pretend to have enough knowledge of Jazz to give it a proper rating. It's a 3.5 up to 4 for listening purposes, but I know a few of these songs are so iconic I'd imagine this is objectively a 5, but for my personal tastes I can't quite go there. No surprise, but Take Five is my favorite.
A very pop music record. I can see why folks like my jazz teacher looked down on stuff like Blue Rondo. But if you’re college age cooking dinner for a date, can you do better than putting this on? Probably not.
Solid jazz album. A classic.
Great album! Very playful, and very cool. I love the weird time signatures, but it never makes it hard to listen.
Very good
just a classic jazz album
Pretty chill jazz record, got the iconic "Take Five" on it, however that should not discredit other tracks like "Blue Rondo a la Turk" and "Pick Up Sticks"
Listened to before. Blue Rondo A la Turk and Take Five are great. A good introduction to Jazz.
Smooth listen! Very enjoyable at night
I feel like this should have been my introduction to jazz. It was cool, it was funky, and it was easy to listen to.
honestly the more jazz i listen to the cooler it gets. for a while i was just kinda averse to horns because i didnt like how they sounded but obviously thats not a problem anymore. then for a while after listening to kind of blue i was just like yeah thats pretty good maybe ill get into jazz someday. and i still dont think ive rly taken the plunge but thats fine, not everything has to be this huge-ass binge. maybe one day ill look back and realize oh shit! im a big jazz fan now! and make like fifty lists thatre just like The Best Jazz Albums Of 2034. Greatest Saxophonists Of The 2020s? Who Said Jazz Is Dead!?!?!?!? this album isnt my fav thing ever but its pretty consistent. i paid a little more attention this time around and im more impressed but not more of a fan necessarily, its cool but probably half of this album isn't mindblowing or anything. the other half also isnt mindblowing but its better. kathys waltz and everybodys jumpin are lots of fun, that one build-up in the second half of pick up sticks is euphoric, take five is mysterious and catchy. the pure drum+piano part is a liiittle long for me since im not big on drum solos but the horn part (idk what type of horn it is :() is perfect!!
Quite liked this. Relaxing
This isn't my normal taste in jazz, but I can recognize its brilliance.
How coincidental that I partially listened to this album only 3 weeks ago. I can't remember why I didn't complete it, but I did add the album and artist to my library. I liked this, however the drums and bass are not interesting, so I'll give this a 3.
Not much improvisation for jazz
Take Five is a classic. The rest was a little less interesting.
Always a good one.
Pleasant to listen to, but just not my vibe in general. 3/5
Not available on Apple Music
I think this album is pretty okay. These are just all instruments, I like how they are used but I don't really like jazz so I'd give this 3 stars.
Sounds good but I don't understand shit about jazz music, so it must be like really amazing but it's not saying too much to me. I enjoyed but overall felt like a chore to go through.
i am not a jazz person but this was so classic, i loved it! something new, but great :)
Not the usual genre I listen to, but it was a nice experience. My favorite one was "Strange Meadow Lark".
Grower
Ok - a bit uninspiring - know and enjoyed Take 5?
1001 Albums You Have To Listen To Before You Die - #1 Is it great? Of course it’s on the list. Did i enjoy it? Yes. Would i listen to it again? Probably not. I’m just not a jazz guy. I can appreciate the music but it doesn’t excite me at all. Therefore such a low rating from me.
Really liked rhis, Just pleasant and strolling. None of these fuck off on a 4 minute tangent jazz a thons And then tell you its your fault for not liking it. Take Five is a classic. V. Nice. Gu on Dave
My rating 3.2 classic Jazz album
Yeah. The listening experience was excellent and I really enjoyed the record. The only thing that holds this back for me is that theres no "oomf" and so it kind of just settles to background music, like bossa nova. Not to say that it isnt good, its amazing, I think i just need to be at a jazz club to really enjoy this
This is a nice jazz album. Nice to listen to while driving
kinda fell into the background for me. still pretty neat.
Nice and gentle and soft. I’ll return to it.
It's jazz. I'm confused by it mostly. I appreciated the playing.
Where most music is the soundtrack to feelings, jazz is the rhythm to life. Like tapping into that unseen energy that surrounds us and putting it to music. I’ve a rudimentary understanding of jazz so we’ll call this my introduction and I was quite pleased!
Yeah alright
muy disfrutable
Music to drink dry martinis and smoke cigarettes to.
falta molho.
The best jazz album I've heard on this list. Which isn't saying too much as I'm not a fan of jazz music
jazz, aber guter jazz
Jazz for nerds is still just jazz. This one dindt interested me a lot. Maybe one day I will like jazz more but its not today. "Take 5" was so mid.
Interesting so far Idk it was fine; kinda became a little repetitive
Very nice jazz
lovely :-)
Easy listening, has a good enjoyable sound.
I’m not a big jazz fan, but “Take Five” is iconic. The rest of the compositions are fine and pleasant, but not something I would revisit.
Jazz isn’t my bag but as background music this album is pretty good. Can understand why it is on this list. I won’t go out of my way to listen to it again but can appreciate why it’s a classic for Jazz fans, it actually has some hooks. 3
Ohhh I've heard Take Five. It's fun to get to actually listen to things I've heard plenty of times in the wild but never looked into.
This is nice. All the positive reviews and the wiki article banging on about creative use of time signatures make me feel terribly ignorant, but I'm afraid I can't get beyond "this is nice". Maybe time to go learn some music theory.
Fine
Muy bueno
Smooth and saxy
Probably the closest a jazz album has come to 4* on this list. It's a really great vibe and served as a wonderful soundtrack for the coffeeshop in the morning. Really liked this one.
i mean its a nice pleasant time but it definitely feels a bit simplistic for me. still a good listen but it's not really the most rewarding type of jazz out there. deserves to be one of the 1001? eya
interesante
I really dug this one, much more accessible jazz but I’m into it. It’s a great background listen. Take Five!
Decent, it would make good background music.
It’s fine. Sort of the full truth of a certain sub-genre of jazz I might call “light” jazz. Melodic and palatable without asking too much of the listener. It gets a little nudge in the rating because I do think it accomplishes a pretty complete album experience that supersedes its individual performances. It sets and sustains a moody throughout and I could see revisiting for that reason alone.
Hey, you got Big Band in my Jazz! No, you got Jazz in my Big Band! The result is some times interesting, other times meh.
Good key song, rest of album is elevator music
Decent album, Jazz is fun, but just isn't a genre I default too usually.
Very "accessible" jazz. Good for a dinner party if you want to seem fancy
solid
Jazz
Prime elevator music.
Almost 300 albums in, and yep, still don’t understand Jazz in the slightest. This is fine at best and annoying at worst. Don’t really have much at all to say about this one other then I’m glad it was only 38 minutes long. There wasn’t much I’d say was cool about this Cool Jazz, it just sounded like more of the same to me. That is, underwhelming. Favorite song, if you can call it that, goes to “Take Five”, as it didn’t give me a headache. I really just don’t know man. If I was a Jazz major, I might think this is really good. Alas, I am not. Technically it’s all fine, but if you don’t really enjoy Jazz, this just sounds like every other Jazz album on the site. I’m never excited to roll these, I’m never going to say “Hell yes, I rolled some Jazz today!!”, and this is yet another prime example in many of that. There are times, specifically during the first time, where the lack of uniformity truly does give me a headache. For that reason and so many more, it’s going to be a 3 star for me. I just don’t get Jazz, and it’s always consistently the hardest to write reviews for. How would you even?? Oh yeah, this one sure is good with it’s lack of organization and musical structure. The way the notes come out sure happens alright. I don’t know man. It was fine, but much like every other Jazz album, I’ll forget it by tomorrow. Is that the point of Jazz, to forget it, or is it supposed to actually stick with you?? Not sure. Don’t really care enough either to find out. This is borderline classical music, and it has its place in history, but should stay there in the past, forever, where it belongs. Until the next Jazz review, which will be even harder to write a unique review for. Goodie.
Was fun to drive and clean to this album. Felt like my own little soundtrack! I do prefer vocals vs totally instrumental, but it was a nice listen!
Dave Brubeck makes some chill jazz tunes, and that's really as simple as it gets at face-value. I still like it though. It works as background music, too.
Bastante nice, disco cala duro y relajante. Buen jazz, creo.
Jazz for my soul.
some was above average
Cool jazz with a fair bit of swing time...chill album
Album #126 The Dave Brubeck Quartet: Time Out Even though I am not an avid jazz listener, I still thought that I was at least aware of all of the classic recordings; The Black Saint and The Sinner Lady, Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew, etc., were all names that I was aware of before listening. However, when presented with what would appear to be one of, if not the most, famous jazz recordings of all time, I am left utterly unfamiliar. Even the standout song ‘Take Five’, which has over 300 million streams (quite rare for a jazz song), I can not confidently say that I have heard it before. Jazz has sort of been hit or miss for me, and notoriety has not really factored in to my enjoyment, but in the case of Time Out, I can certainly see the appeal. The album is incredibly smooth and easy-listening, yet at the same time, you can approach it with a more analytical ear and be left floored by its ingenuity. At least that’s what I read anyway. I am not yet at the stage of my jazz listening where I can identify all of the intricacies that go into making this album a classic. However, I am at the point in my listening where I can acknowledge that this most definitely does not suck, and is actually quite enjoyable. Best Songs: Take Five, Blue Rondo a la Turk, Strange Meadow Lark Worst Song: Everybody’s Jumpin’ Score out of 10: 7.5
Interesting album with unique styles
Listened to a few tracks, not my normal choice of music, but musically it is a great listen.
Jazz is weird but I like it, sometimes
Honestly, Im just not a big fan of this kind of music, but it's pretty nice. Rating of each song: 1. Blue Rondo A La Turk - 3/5 2. Strange Meadow Lark - 3/5 3. Take Five - 3/5 4. Three To Get Ready - 3/5 5. Kathy's Waltz - 4/5 6. Everybody's Jumpin' - 3/5 7. Pick Up Sticks - 3/5 8. Audrey - 3/5
I like jazz but this is just a bit too mellow for me. Might be good for a cocktail party to add some ambience but not sure anything I would choose to throw on otherwise. It's good just boring to me.
Never been a huge fan of jazz. This album didn't make me one either, but it was decent backing sound for my morning commute.
While I admire the technical proficiency of the musicians and the unorthodox time signatures, I found this album difficult to get into. The production and chordal color of this album was also a little darker than I'm used to with jazz. Not my cup of tea, but a very respectable album.
Just some chilled classic jazz. Nothing bad about this at all, but nothing overly exciting either. Nice background music.
Oh, no. This was simply awful
First song was great, great vibes, rest of the album fell off into the obscurity of background music, first song carries it to a high 3.
Blue Rondo à la Turk made me feel like Carrie Bradshaw...
A good jazz album. I don't know if I have more to say about it than that.
Song 1 - Lowkey playful, a hint of joy maybe a speck of childhood nostalgia. Song 2 - A gentleman-like waltz, an almost vintage disney-ish tune. A few bursts of reflection, a few moments of silence. Song 3 - Whiplash start? Song 4-
Take 5 is fine, but again another album of background jazz. I don't have the knowledge or understanding to assess the impact of random time signatures.
Nunca había escuchado, me gusta 7/10
A couple of cool songs but not really my thing generally speaking g
very calming jazz album(good study/chess music)
𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘖𝘶𝘵 is often praised as a landmark jazz album, mainly for its use of unusual time signatures and its accessible, melodic style. The playing is tight and professional, and the compositions are clearly well thought out. Still, it doesn’t stand out to me as much as its reputation suggests. Despite its innovations, the album feels a bit too clean and restrained to leave a stronger impression. It’s good, but not particularly exciting from my perspective.
not my typical listen but is enjoyable. groovy
This is nice - relaxing and warming. Great background music for a cocktail party or similar
Felt like very laid back background music. Didn't hate it.
Before saying anything about the album itself, I have to mention how much I love the cover. It’s oddly satisfying to look at. When it comes to the music, I feel a bit out of my depth trying to fully comment on everything that's going on. If anything, this album feels like a potential gateway into West Coast jazz. I liked the tunes, but I couldn't really connect with them. After finishing the album, I listened to more from the Quartet and actually found some of those tracks more engaging, so I'll definitely be giving this more time. I enjoyed "Strange Meadow Lark".
Album very Jazz. Contains much sound. Sound less off-putting than other Jazz. It is Rated.
Pleasant enough to listen to, just not exactly my thing
Candle lit dinner vibes
Quite pleasant jazz. Have obviously heard ‘Take Five’ many times but never knew who it was by or that it was from the 1950s. Would happily play again, more as background music so can’t score more generously than a 3
Really repetitive (7 songs, 38 mins)
3.5
chill
Different speed, no words. Very idle-time music, no complaints! 3.5 if half stars count (not a bad 3.5)
“Take Five” is the obvious standout and I enjoyed the opening track. Otherwise this is a competent, enjoyable enough jazz album that I probably will not revisit in full. I like my jazz heavier on the horns, generally.
"Please hold while we connect you with your representative" - then I hear the entire 1959 double platinum jazz album Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet playing on the line. I wait patiently, ever so slightly bopping my head to the unconventional time signatures for jazz that this album seemed to pioneer. With the final notes of the album, they hung up on me. I was never connected with anyone on the other end. I never seem to be. I let out a deep sigh. But at least the album was fine.
I know it is a classic record and I liked it. But honestly it was a bit underwhelming.
The music was calming and nice background "noise"
I am not really a jazz lover or even a listener but i love it. it made me feel jolly and happy.
Something that is constantly being pointed out about this project is the complex rhythms. It is an interesting aspect about the album and that adds great value to it, but I honestly think that it is not that mesmerizing, and I appreciated it more for the relaxing moments it offer rather than its complexity. On top of that, I also believe the smoothness and calmness aren't that appealing. I mean, they certainly do the job at establishing a warm and chill atmosphere, but it isn't that immersive, in my opinion. Basically, there wasn't really anything that caught my attention, other than "Take Five" inspiring "Sutekimeppou" from the "Monogatari Series" anime. At least I can say that it isn't a bad experience.
B+
It's cool jazz music. If you've heard jazz music before, then you've heard everything on offer on 'Time Out' No vocals, just awesome piano, sax, bass and drums. It does the job as good mood music when you don't want to think about much. Best songs: Strange Meadow Lark, Take Five
Good simple jazz
Not a massive jazz fan but can tolerate this.
Not extraordinary but thoroughly enjoyable! I'd say a solid 3 as it was another late night library listen and I locked in immensely!
It's cool, good background music playing softly at a gathering where you don't know what the people would like, I doubt you would get any complaints. Alas, many wouldn't even realize it was on. 3.333 rounded down, it doesn't fit my criteria for a 4.
This is a jazz band, and that not really my thing. I could still enjoy the album, because it’s a ”happy” genre. I liked ”Strage Meadow Lark”, it gave me the vibe that everything will be okey. ”Take five” sounded like somthing ive heard before, in a movie or somthing.
it was fine
just smooth jazz, easy listening
guggenheim music
Hyggelig dette, chill å ha i bakgrunn. ⌛️⌛️⌛️
Bangers. Kul jazz. Liker det.
I’m glad I read about this before listening. It’s an album you ‘know of’ and of course just about everyone knows the wonderful Take Five. The benefit of pre-reading was understanding the backstory to the album, ie a journey to Europe/Asia to discover new music. That, in turn, prompted the varied and unusual time-signatures used on these songs. Unfortunately I don’t have the musical knowledge to appreciate the subtleties of all that. But it did illuminate the experience and, presumably, helped this record stand out from the crowd when released in the late ‘50s. One fun thing for me was that I’d never appreciated how simple, prominent, sustained and insistent the bassline is in Take Five. The mid/end section felt an early example of sparse drum and bass music.
Light jazz to while away a few minutes. Take 5 is obviously well known, but the other tracks are interesting to listen to. I'm sure I've listened to this album a few times over the years and I probably will do again sometime.
Take Five and Blue Rondo are cool and all, but Strange Meadow Lark is just haunting. It's so beautiful and keeps working when they swing it too. Best cut on this album for me. After track 3, it starts to peter out a bit (aside from Dave Brubeck doing that crazy mid solo metric modulation on Kathy's Swing, THAT was sick). Good album, interesting premise of playing with time sigs. I'd give it like a 3.7 or 3.8, but I'm not rounding up so 3.
Smooth jazz
Meh
Pleasant enough and in the right environment I can imagine this would really help set a nice tone…not my usual listening.
It's ok
Ah, my old friend the jazz album. A few have come before my ears, but none have been able to top the heights reached by John Coltrane. This one in particular feels rather like lounge jazz. It's the kind of music you play in an upscale hotel lobby. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and the musicianship is undeniably great, but it's not very involving. While songs like "Blue Rondo A La Turk" are known for their unconventional time signatures, this album does so in a way that doesn't really feel memorable. It's good, but it just can't match the verve of Birth Of The Cool, let alone A Love Supreme. And so my quest for a jazz album better than Coltrane continues...
pretty standard sounding jazz off the first listen. 3/5
It's pretty cool, chill and atmospheric. Nothing wrong with it but not necessarily amazing
Enjoyable
It's ok
Not many jazz albums really appeal to me and this one didn’t either. Apart from Take Five which is a great track.
Tempi dispari e light jazz carino. 7,5
Fairly standard jazz record with one stand out track
jet another jazz
Jazzy
Heard it before. One thing about me is that I LOVE Take Five. The rest of the album doesn't have tunes as catchy as this one but it's still some nice jazz anyway 3/5
Smooth jazz background music. As far as jazz goes pretty good tunes.
Accessible jazz.
Chill Jazy
I didn't recognize this album at first, but then I got to Take Five... 8th grade jazz band memories straight to the dome. Favorites: - Everything after track 3 (Take Five). - I actually really liked the live songs at the end for some reason; I usually don't like live renditions. Thoughts: This album makes me want to hop back on the sax. I don't have much to say apart from that, just makes me miss an earlier time. "Ya Like Jazz?"
they're all great players and I'm sure there's a lot to appreciate about this record. it's not something I'll circle back to but would be easy to put on to provide some sound in most polite environments.
I am hit and miss with jazz. This isn’t my favorite.
I’ve heard this album so many times in the background while my dad is cooking - it’s not my taste the rambling piano and saxophone but it’s nostalgic
Easy
Favorite track(s): Blue Rondo a la Turk, Strange Meadow Lark, Take Five Heard before Previous rating: 7/10
Made me realise how classic take five is, and did enjoy trying to count the time signature between the more obvious "Kathy's Waltz" and the more odd ones
Classic jazz album
Great instrumentation. I felt like Rob Reiner was going for this jazz vibe in When Harry Met Sally.
hm
Still not my thing but not a single song was bad, just none stood out. Will say that I enjoyed the interplay between the piano and the drums 3/5
I like this jazz
Didn't really speak to me beyond on a technical level.
Jazz not my genre, recognised a few movie scores. Easi listening but won’t be on my rotation
Loved it, but turns into background music after a little while.
Easy listening jazz. Take Five is great but I suspect I won't listen to the rest again :D
All jazz albums are beginning to sound monotonous to me. I've heard 5 albums like "Time Out". That's not to say "Time Out" is bad. I quite liked the first half of the album. It would be cool if I had a 5-star album next. 3 stars for "Time Out".
Ya like jazz
Sounds good but also sounds the same to a unknowing white boy such as myself.
Had a bit of fear when I saw it was a jazz album but I actually found it very easy to listen to. Good background music while doing other things but wasn't super into it when I wasn't busy. Favourite song: Blue Ronda a la Lark Least: Take Five
Already one I’m very fond of. Got a wee bit bored tho, maybe bcos I was in the mood for something more upbeat whilst travelling. Still a stellar album tho
i am so sorry to say that but i was bored not my genre at all, and there were no vocals as well take five is cool i would rate it lower, but i have respect for this album
Fun listening to this after hearing most of these songs individually in various media over the years. Not sure I’ll come back to it though.
I vibed even tho not what I usually listen to
I didn't like this much, but the fact that this band used time signatures like 5/4 and 9/8 in 1959 is INSANE. At the end of the day I can understand if someone else thought this was a 10, but someone else isn't reviewing.
muy bueno, pero no lo escucharía.
Not a jazz fan, but here is an album with 2 songs I somewhat enjoy. Though I must say, I get antsy about 3 minutes into Take 5. The rest of the album is just OK.
Not a particular listener of Jazz, but do enjoy the sounds of this one.
Najs känsla, duktiga musiker. Inte riktigt min stil dock…
Just lovely. Had an unexpected drive on a nice winter afternoon. Perfect.
originally conceived as an experiment in unusual time signatures- Nice Jazz
Accessible and catchy, it’s good but doesn’t command my undivided attention.
I recognize this cover everywhere, bout time I actually sit down and listen to it. Glad I did to say I did but wouldn't go out of my way to listen to more.
Favorite Songs - N/A
Time Out is toegankelijke, speelse jazz die vooral prettig werkt als achtergrondmuziek.
Not bad. Nice for background music. Does t make me feel much and somewhat forgettable.
Always enjoyable.
I enjoyed this jazz album, usually I don’t like jazz.
Just a solid 40 minutes of jazz
Very good background noise
Nice
It was pretty ok
Not my genre, but you have to admire the musicianship. I recognise at least two tracks, Pennies from heaven and Take Five, quite enjoyed the later.
Blue rondo à la Turk: super fun song. I couldn’t predict how the song would continue, which kept my attention. Very relaxing. I listened to this album as I was cleaning. The song everybody is jumping also caught my attention while listening to this album.
Do ya like jazz?
Good
This album has alot of swing, love the unusual jazz piano playing, the drummer its exceptional like with the somg Kathy waltz where it switches up the drum pattern, lovely jazz overall
Nice smooth Jazz. I dont listen to much Jazz but to my ears its very pleasing. Great background music.
Recognized "Take Five" right away, jazz standard and I can totally see why.
3,5
Very good jazz. Best elevator I've been in all year
lowk not very interesting esp for what jazz can be, but it's great background music. imagine cooking a homemade pasta with your wife with this in the back
I was extremely hesitant to listen to a jazz album, after listening to the few I've gotten on this generator I came to the conclusion I don't like jazz, however I actually kinda like this. Really what sold me was the song Take Five, which I swear I've heard before, but I liked that a lot. The other were songs were fine and chill and different from the jazz I've heard before. Makes me wonder I just like some jazz a lot more than other types of jazz.
I wish I could get more out of albums like this, but I'm not going to rate this higher just to be more sophisticated.
This is a pleasant listen, but don't think it's an album I would return to. That said, it was cool to hear song I've heard a lot in movies and television like Take Five and actually take note of the artists behind it and the body of work it appeared on.
Oväntat behagligt, kanske mest nice jazz hittills!
It's jazz 2.5/5
Not a jazz fan, good background.
Again, the title track is the best track.
Wasnt bad for morning music watching the snow fall. cant say i would listen to it again, but i can see the why the album was big with jazz people in 1959
Reading up on this album, it was the first jazz album to ever sell 1.0M copies, and the song "Take Five" became the most played jazz single at the time. I mean, the album is good, and the first three songs I think are REALLY good, but after that, it begins to all sound the same. I don't know what makes jazz great vs terrible, it all sounds "good" to me. Now one thing that was cool about this album was that it sounds timeless. You could tell me it was from 1959, 1997, or 2018, and I would believe you.
A nice sit back easy listen.
If I weren’t a simple man, this would be the exact album I’d put on during a really fancy dinner party at my house. Nevertheless, I actually enjoyed it because it wasn’t too long of an album.
I swear the day will come when I actually throw a dinner party and break out my Jazzy Dinner Party playlist. Until that day, I content myself when I imagine guests hearing the Jazz standard "Take Five" and saying "I have heard that before. What is it?" Then I can say that's "Take Five" by The Dave Brubeck Quartet off their album Time Out. Oh, the day will come.
Meh
Really good vibes, the first song especially was a banger
Pretty good jazz some standouts
Actually found myself grooving to this one. Had some songs that sounded similar to the severance soundtrack.
Fancy old jazz sound. Felt smart
Loads of relaxing, slow paced tunes. So much room in the mix for things to breath it's beautiful. It always feels weird listening to music like this without vocals, it's more background music or a soundtrack to life rather than something I can see me cranking on the good stereo for a focussed listen
Better than plenty of the jazz on here
Not a fan of jazz but this was one of the better ones I've heard on here.
It's good but not my thing
Swinging jazz album which in '59 was quite pioneering for its use non standard time signatures. A very relaxing listen and Take Five and Blue Rondo sound like they've been in many a movie too.
An album defined by one tune, a great tune at that
It's chill, it's jazz, it bebops and toodles and whatnot. Jazz always kind of sounds like either Christmas or a soundtrack but this is definitely very accessible and sounds good. It's excellently composed and performed and recorded for sure - this is extremely hi-fi for the 50's, it sounds incredible still. The odd time signatures are just jazz to me, but I guess this was the beginning of that. Overall a neat record and definitely a classic record you have to listen to.
Easy listening.
Jazz that i actually liked !!
What’s smoother than that.
Sunny accessible jazz. Enjoyable for someone like me unaccustomed to listening to this genre.
There is nothing bad about this album! It could almost be described as pleasing. And yet I still feel nothing... Though I do like 'Three To Get Ready'.
Instrumental jazz. One good song other than that nothing too special
Fun jazz. Still didn't know what distinguishes it from bad or good jazz.
Super!
good jazz, but nothing too interesting
Música de fondo...
Something to listen to while cooking dinner.
Timeless but dated. Important in historical context. Hard to rate it poorly.
Fun, smooth, jazz, with interesting time signatures. Was already familiar, but a decent listen.
I liked Take 5 a lot. Then there’s the rest of the songs.
idle music. not clapping and hollering while listening to it, but i’m not complaining
I found myself aimlessly driving around, just as an excuse to keep listening. Obviously “Take Five” is the staple that everyone knows, but as someone that generally doesn’t like jazz, the easy and pop pacing makes it enjoyable.
won’t listen again. sounds i’ve heard before
Perfectly solid background music. Take Five my favorite
I fully expected to hate this but whilst not a banger is entertaining for background and short duration's.
Great background music. Definitely jazzy. Not sure how I feel about all the weird time signatures, but I'm not deep enough into music theory.
This will be my most elaborate review ever. It was cool.
Cover Art Review - If 50s/60s hip jazz was a genre of painting, this would be a great example. Mid-Century Modern Jazz. 8.5/10. Let's be honest, we're here to talk about Take Five. Few jazz songs reach the level of cool and recognition as Take Five. An earworm above other earworms. The meter, the melody, the rhythm, the performers. Lightning in a bottle.
Dont really think ive got a feve on this one, i find all of them alright
