This one was a pleasant surprise, coming from Deep Purple, this was so sweet, calm, relaxing and just... delicious to listen to. I'm not Usonian so I'm not that familiar with the Jazz movement in the US, the history and the musicians that pushed this genre in the 50's and 60's. This is a great album.
No lo conocía. Muy bueno
Fantastic for a windy stroll. Makes you feel like having a nice frolic
Cosy and easy on the ear.
Fantastic. That Hammond B-3 sound is so foundational. A joy to listen to. A 5.
First impression: the cover is a dude with his dog. This has to be good. It is. Fantastic jazz album. Will listen again.
Easy listening but also compelling. I think I've heard a lot of motifs from this album in other works
Really fantastic jazz record, definitely one I can throwing on regularly!
I was having a bad day today, and listening to ths felt right. Made me feel like feeling bad isn't so bad. I started having a great day today, and this same music made me feel on top of the world. Now that's good music.
Sehr geil. Direkt gespeichert.
I don't care what anyone says about this album. It's peak.
don't know tons about jazz, loved the bluesiness of this album and enjoyed learning about the music it influenced.
There have been very few albums over the course of this project that I immediately want to hear again after the initial play through. This record is one of those. This was a fantastic listen; such a vibe. 5 super chill stars.
Best Jazz album on the list so far.
Ya like jazz?
Peak.
Genuinely one of the greatest jazz albums. Stunning and cosy at the same time. Every tune brings joy.
Exceptional!
Mi mero mole
OF COURSE it's going to score high... it's CLASSIC jazz by a master. The influence is obvious. The sheer brilliance of the recording is also obvious. So how do you "pick apart" a record that is debatably perfect? I don't know... but this is a brilliant record. I can hear how this influenced Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, James Brown... even Keith Richards and Jimmy Page. A truly great recording. TRULY.
Solid jazz album with a cool nostalgic sound. 5/5
Spang
Loved this instrumental Jazz party.
Jazzy hammond, what a vibe!
I didn't know this guy existed. Excellent record!
Very good surprise
Amazing. Organ sounds at their best, leading the band
What it is man what it is
An absolute little gem this one
Immaculate vibes
Excellent jazz.
I love this album
I'm always a sucker for Jazz. This was a great to listen to, and I'm almost certain I've heard Back At The Chicken Shack before. I feel bad for giving 5/5 to all Jazz albums but here I go again.
loved this!
Five seconds into the record and already a fan. What a nice surprise. Going to be my early morning house tasks record. Amazing vibes, amazing skill.
fantastic
Wow. Biggest surprise so far. What a fantastic album. Funky and unexpected
The perfect working album
5/5 so into jazz atm so this hit the spot!
beautiful and clearly influential
Outstanding! Exactly what I want to hear during a holiday dinner montage
That is some good shit right there!!
09/01/2026 Absolutely what I wanted to hear for a chilled drive to work in the morning. Spotify listeners: 551.1k
(90/100)
Jimmy Smith truly is incredible. I absolutely loved this. Honestly this album is exactly what I needed this morning.
This is just fantastic. I think I ran through this like 4 times this morning, because it was just nice to have on in the background. Very soothing, very relaxing. What stood out to me the most is just how fun this music would be to play. I love the jams and riffs. They're all so tight and you can hear that playfulness come through on the recording.
Excellent. I could listen to this all day. Normally not a fan of the instrument but do love Jimmy Smith's style. Turrentine is a beast, as well.
Excellent
Not sure what I expected but it was not smooth sexy uplifting jazz. Fantastic album!
Great album smooth jazzy vibes thoroughly enjoyed
10/10 would listen again and again and would recommend to anyone who doesn’t know they love jazz yet
If more jazz sounded like this jazz I would listen to more jazz.
Soulful jazz, Hammond organ
Best drive to work I’ve had in a minute. Great album
This album fucks. Another one of those “pull you out of a bad mood” albums. Happy blues/jazz.
Unexpectedly loved this, incredible groove throughout, great production, will try and get this on lp
One of the seminal works of one of the great innovators of the electric organ.
This album was awesome. I plan to add the vinyl to my collection.
Looking into the Wikipedia article for this album, and given its name and time period, I figure it would be the latest in a line of weird albums that had come across my proverbial desk. I however was pleasantly surprised to find it was silky smooth jazz, which when I put it on in the kitchen, seemed to calm everything down. 5 stars for vibes alone, but then when you listen to it again and again, you can pick out the individual parts, knowing that each piece of the puzzle comes together brilliantly. Definitely on my list of "Albums to Listen to Again"
5 stars yeah
Very good. Interesting to listen, and the track progression through the album makes for a really full and rewarding experience
10/10! wow!
Jazzo muzika - pasaka dirbant. Privercia greiciau dirbti pirstukus
No words can describe how much I enjoyed this. Just a chill day 😎
Excellent
Love it, seems like the organ would pair well with Combustication
Lovely jazz with a forever memorable album name
really liked listening to it in the plane while trying (and failing) to sleep in those uncomfortable seats
very short but a great jazz/blues instrumental!!
Interesting to listen to this on the same day as the Jeff Beck record. A couple of albums filled with brilliant musicians playing blues music. The difference is light years for me. Smith, Burrell, Turrentine, and Bailey take the simplest changes and weave gold. Just incredible grooves that I could ride all day long. An early soul jazz classic and a huge influence in anyone who ever tried to play a B3, most of whom fell well short of being Jimmy Smith
Really nice to listen to some blues for a change. Can't really fault it.
Phenomenal album. Great new listen.
Loved this! So cool and groovy and listenable.
Who knew that a chicken shack could be so cool. Loved it
Superb cool combination of jazz and soul. No one did this better than Jimmy Smith. This is among my favourite jazz records ever and despite rating it 4.0 on RYM, I might give it 5 stars here purely because there's a huge lack of Jazz albums on this list
Well, that was just fantastic!
Bluesy and jazzy. Fantastic as background music or something to listen to intently while staring at the ceiling.
soul jazz at it's finest
Very nice!
I too will be Back At The Chicken Shack.
Loved... and I never thought I'd say that about organ music
Muito bom
Really cool walking around music!
Amazing jazzy listen...nice
Oh thank goodness, a perfect hard bop album. What a palate cleanser after a couple of bad albums.
So cool
Just straigthforward good music. Love the hammond sound, the fact that the album is not overstaying its welcome (I've had trouble with some of the albums on this list having 15+ songs where a lot of them were obvious fillers). Listening to this I immediately thought I'd be happy to own this on vinyl. That's a 5 in my book, even if there's nothing exceptionally flashy goingo on. I think the first song of the album inspired the title music of Transport Tycoon Deluxe? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmL4HoG5ehQ&list=PLB0C4CF334E53E241&index=1
Probably the easiest listen to date for me as new albums I’ve never listened to before goes. Solid. Had it on repeat. Great record to drive to.
Lovely bit of jazz!
Fantastic. Every song had me tapping away
Not what I expected but I liked it.
I LOVE YOU JAZZ!!!!!!!!!!!
Perfect jazz album front to back. 5 outta 5
Just wasn't very interesting. It was just "Alice Cooper Album" Which doesn't get high marks from me generally.
This is the chillest, grooviest thing of all time. Will be on rotation!
Organ Jazz is tremendous. Marvelous album.
Love Jimmy Smith and this is a classic. 5/ 5
I felt very sophisticated listening to this. A really lovely album. I'm a sucker for an organ and it was well utilised here.
Love the jazzy piano here, will listen more.
"This is pure, unadulterated, jamming fun... so much soul.... so much groove... when it comes to the B3 organ... no one can match the GREAT Jimmy Smith... one of the all time great musicians in world history... five songs... five jams... five grooves... a swingin' band... and one of the great soloists of our time... when you add Stanley Turrentine on tenor... Donald Bailey on drums and Kenny Burrell on guitar... you have an album that should be treasured, revered, memorized, and put in a time capsule... FIVE stars... daddy o... all day..."
Excellent.
Yes. So good. Perfect rainy Sunday vibes right here.
Loved it!
nice soundtrack to make a pot of beans to
Not much to say about this. 4 (5 if you count the remaster) slick, gorgeous jazz songs with perfect keys, amazing sax, and a fun rhythm that carries through the whole project. Nothing but hitters on this, which is in some ways all that can be asked for on an instrumental jazz record. Put it on in the background for a fun afternoon, or listen closely for an educational, endlessly entertaining time.
I LOVE jazz music. This was my speed for sure. Like the addition of the guitar. Great fillers while the rest of the band maintained tempo. Bass was on point as well. Finally, the addition of the organ was great. If anyone has every played Fallout (especially Fallout New Vegas’s DLC old world blues) this album fits right in.
Loved this jazz
Jazzy! Lots of organ.
🐔 Rating: 4.8 / 5 🎷 Short Review: Feels like midnight fried food for your soul. Jimmy Smith’s Hammond B3 is so smooth it should be illegal. Stanley Turrentine’s sax? It doesn’t play—you melt into it.
Loved it
Dug.
Loved it! Perfection! This is the kind of album I am doing this for. I think my favourite is 'When I Grow Too Old to Dream'.
back at the chicken shack - cool introduction into the groove, building up excellently into the latter half of the song when i grow too old to dream - lovely, i could INSTANTLY tell Stanley Turrentine on the sax is singing a melody originally written for vocal performance, and he does so beautifully!! minor chant - groovy asf and i just LOVE the drum solos, amazing job by Donald Bailey messy bessie - 12 minutes of mastery, AMAZING guitar work by Kenny Burrell on the sunny side of the street - beautiful way to close out the album and of course, amazing work all around by the incredible Jimmy Smith on the legendary Hammond organ!! very pleasant listening experience, this record is very much worthy of its placement on this list :)
Bon!
Love jazz organ Jimmy Smith is the man.
Smooth, great
Very good. Fun to listen to. Mix of blues and jazz.
This made me happy.
Great jazz album!!! I will listen again
Let's go! I love this. Simple but good jazz. Love the organ. And I melt for the sax on this.
Jimmy Smith…that cat was the stuff. Great album, jazzed to the max.
I do like smooth jazz. The sax and organ work great together.
Some of the OG blues funk!
This is a good one
Absolutely slaps. The jazz i tried to play in my music days 5/5
It's fucking magic
Hammond B3 - what's not to like?
About as good as jazz can get.
Great
From the title I expected bluegrass. What a pleasant surprise to find some cool jazz/blues. I have such a weakness for Hammond organ. Easy 5 stars on this one.
Perfect for both background and active listening.
Great album. Cool laid back tracks. Perfect.
Never heard of this guy or his music. But I'm a huge fan of jazz and I love some good soft organ, so this was really relaxing to listen to. I'll be comming back whenever I feel angry that there's not enough jazz anymore
If I go to a barbecue joint and I hear this on the speakers, I know the food is going to be spectacular.
I listened to this driving home from work with blue skies and warm sunshine and I feel that was the right atmosphere for this!
Wild thang …..
v good, never heard of him before
I'd never heard this before and I just love the sound, the keyboards, and saxophonist especially. I'll be revisiting this certainly, and it had a nice relaxing vibe to my morning this morning that meshed well.
Fantastic 60s organ jazz. Only complaint about this album is its brevity. 5 stars.
Just beautiful. I loved every second of it. Perfect for a relaxing afternoon.
Loved it
1960. Jazz, soul jazz, hard bop !!!
Easy listening. Listen more often. Five stars
I've got plenty of Jimmy Smith in my collection, not this particular album though, but I did have a couple of the tracks. This is my kind of music. I could listen to it all day, and often do!
Terrific album, the organ is a highlight, and every other musician seems to be at their best also. This one should be shared and go into regular rotation
Outstanding. I loved it.
I’m in the chicken shack!!! Love it!
I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5. Not much to say to this one: just an organ, a saxophone, some drums, and an occasional guitar going back and forth taking little solos for 38 minutes. Is it sort of repetitive? Yeah, I’d say so. Did it affect my enjoyment? Not even a little bit – this album sets its tone early as an easy-listening dinner club style jazz album, and never raises expectations to a higher big-band level, so I never felt annoyed that each track was the same. It’s definitely just a “pop on and do whatever while listening” album. Why is it on the list? Well, the book explicitly says the following: “Redolent of church pews and skating rinks, the organ was once relegated to hip-free zones, a square cousin to the autoharp and accordion. And then along came Jimmy Smith, who turned his attention to the instrument in 1954 just as the Hammond company was unveiling its relatively compact new B3 model. Smith transformed the organ's lamentable image with his soulful synthesis of bebop, blues, and gospel, creating a powerfully grooving new sound. He spawned a new style of music—soul jazz—and a host of disciples who took up the Hammond B3 and formed combos.” So… yeah, I guess it’s just a revolutionary use of the organ as a soul instrument that defines this album’s presence on the list. It gets a lot of shine here, and while my brain went to the Monty Python intermission theme many times while listening, I can only say that’s kind of a positive. I enjoyed this, and I feel fine bumping it up to a 5, though I can understand the case for going as low as a 3. That’s the floor, though; these are really good arrangements, & it’s just too smooth to not vibe out to.
Great little groovy album
This is the kind of jazz I love. Jimmy stays rooted in the blues and doesn't overdo it. It is groundbreaking for Jimmy's use of the B3 but is still accessible to casual listeners. In the context of the time it was created and it's subsequent influence, I give it 5/5
Very cool, chill, got me through some tax return sorting
I went into this album being well familiar with the title track, "Back at the Chicken Shack." Knowing that song, however, really tricked me into thinking the rest of the album would sound similar: an organ-led groove akin to Booker T and the M.G.s. What I got was a straight, classic jazz album. The only song I didn't love was ironically "Back at the Chicken Shack." It's got a great groove but it's too repetitive and goes on for too long. The rest of the album is straight fire jazz, and I loved it. I want to add more Jimmy Smith to my listening repertoire.
Well composed. Fun and also mesmerizing at times. Easily digestible
Lovely listening, wish it was longer. I'll have to put it on the rotation for deeper thoughts but it felt lively and groovy throughout.
Groovy. Yet new
6/1001 It was albums like this that I was looking forward to hearing/finding when I started this list oh so shortly ago, something that I had little or no knowledge of, something band new, that just opened a new door of music for me. This album was exactly that. I have never knowingly heard Jimmy Smith, and this album was a delight. It was just smooth, velvety bounce of jazz that I was not anticipating. I like jazz but never ventured too far from Coltrane and Davis and a few other big names. I immediately dove into another 2 hours of Jimmy and I am loving it all. The 45 minute album felt like a blink.
This is very good listening. One of the times where I forget how long it has gone on and it's suddenly over.
Great music for an all nighter!
Stellar. Soulful, funky, jazzy. This is solid music.
I mean, this is incredible. Very easy listening. Enjoyable.
Rad and cool as shit. Nuff said. Must-listen #105.
Really great piece of music
Really cool!
too bad i can only rate this album a B3+
Awesome. Reminds me of Sandlot
Real grilling music. Listen to this.
Mentally I'm here, my Chicken Shack: https://maps.app.goo.gl/eb3BTFkxR9txV4VN8 Incredible record. The only downside is that this kind of music makes me crave a concerning amount of nicotine and whiskey.
Yeah I definitely like some tracks more than others, but absolutely no skips, kept listening on repeat all day, such a pleasant experience. 10/10
Really fun jazz record. Some great grooves, would definitely listen again.
What a great jazz album. Jimmy Smith’s organ playing is on point, but like I saw some other reviews say, that sax player 100% stole the show. This was a great rainy Sunday morning listen.
Best record cover and name. Could listen to this anywhere, any time.
Had to come back to upgrade this to a 5. Another true discovery from this list, I first listened to this album while driving along the west coast of NZ and have found myself regularly coming back ever since. Love the keys and the soulful tone and what a great name for an album too.
Thanks to the Beastie Boys, I was introduced to Jimmy Smith a while back. Let me tell you, he does not disappoint. Ever. I have picked up several of his albums on reputation alone and they've all been worth it. This is no exception.
Great jazz album
Really liked this one.
Loved this. I think it would be wonderful added to my jazz music rotation.
Amazinggg
I could chill at the chicken shack all day with these tunes
Nice keys
Great jazz album!
Very cool
Perfect jazz album, what more could you want. Fantastic sound, musicians, solos, tunes.
Loved this a lot.
Another amazing Jazz album!!
You like jazz? 🐝
My points of contact with jazz are not that great, although I like the genre. I'm not that familiar with it. That's why Jimmy Smith and this album didn't mean anything to me. My interest was piqued by the genre classifications of jazz and funk. And I was not disappointed. A great album that will now find its way into my collection and that I will certainly listen to more often. I'm happy to take part in the project for something like this. 5/5
This was an absolute gem. Perfect in every way.
This is my kind of Jazz
I liked it! And I will be checking out the rest of Jimmy Smith's albums. Good stuff!
Perfect jazz! What else can I say?
albumcím: 10/10 borító: 15/10 és a zene is igen kiváló!
She chicken on my shack till I back
damn the tracks on this album are so smooth, I can't believe it's from the 60's
just some great laid back jazz stuff. everyone performs well and the vibes are amazing. good shit
I really enjoyed this.
Very nice, perfect groovjazz
Great! Want to listen again
Thought this was a good album. Could say it was a little repetitive with the same underlying rhythm throughout but that didn't detract from the enjoyment, maybe enhanced it a little because it gave the music its own statement. I would place it in the genre of modern jazz as opposed to that of funk but who am I to argue that point 😅. A good listen
This is so good it’s almost a caricature of cool.
The chicken shack is far too small to contain such music that feels big. Jimmy Smith, alongside Stanley Turrentine, Kenny Burrell and Donald Bailey, gives us around forty minutes of pure soulful jazz; the kind that would be suitable for walks outdoors basking in the warm Autumn air. Why would one go back to the claustrophobic shack after experiencing music quite like this? I will never know.
Excellent playing
This is outstanding. Loved it.
Absolutely fucking incredibile
I love jazz from this era, but hadn’t heard this before. Hard to think of anything but positive vibes from my time with this one.
Buenísimo. I love Jazz. 10/10.
Great stuff here from Jimmy. That saxophonist is something else too.
Fantastic album with excellent groovy tracks
Hell yeah
That B3 always gives me the classic memphis soul feel, but here's it's used in a jazz setting, with more melodic and improvised lines. A funky, soulful jazz record.
HEERLIJK
Amazing masterpiece!
Some might say “Life is too short for Jazz”. I disagree. Make room for Jazz like this. Sublime.
Pretty good actually, I liked the jazz a lot
Fun, light, swanky. This might be my favorite brand of jazz. It just puts you in a good mood.
Nice jazz
Absolutely 5 stars for this genius, classical-jazzy-discotecque bluesy 50s/60s coffee shop beatnik concept album. The organ is the finishing icing touch for me.
That was amazing.
Instrumental Jazz? Wouldn't have thought it'd be my thing, but I enjoyed this.
Oh wow !!!
Fabulous album and players. Jimmy excels and is backed by an in form Kenny Burrell. Stanley Turrentine blows so well and Donald Bailey keeps the groove going. Love it!
Ever been a jazz guy and this changed my mind; incredibly fun and vibrant.
A chill jazz album, nothing wrong with it. I don't know a lot about jazz to know why this album is on here, but I have no notes. 5*
Funky genius. I wouldn’t say I know much about jazz, but I know what I love, and this is definitely it. I guess this predates some of the 70s soul jazz, which I think tends to get a bad rap for being too commercial, cool, and uncreative, but when it’s this awesome, I can’t see how any jazz lover ought complain.
I didn't know what to expect with this one but what I heard I loved. Will definitely come back to this some day. 5 stars for me just because I usually prefer lyrics but this had me captured from start to finish.
From the album cover I was not expecting jazz. I loved this. Smooth and relaxing.
One of Blue Note's best.
So awesome. Bluesy jazz with that electric organ sound. Gotta listen to more Jimmy Smith
Loved it!
This is the most misleading album title and cover art of all time. Hiding a brilliant jazz album behind this facade is some double secret agent tomfoolery. I don't know how I have never heard or heard or this before, but I will be revisiting this like an exclusive top shelf speakeasy I've been accidentally allowed entry into and have been told I'm welcome back anytime.
proper good album
Iconic Hammond organ that could only be Jimmy Smith.
A surprise! What a wonderful album.
Gran álbum. Jazz del bueno. Guardado para la colección.
Great to listen to as I got the kids ready for the day. 43 minutes flew by!
Very chill jazz
We're at the 10% mark and there's been only one other jazz album so far. I'm so happy this one made the list! It's not one of the usual suspects from Miles or Coltrane, but man, it really captures a lot of mid-century jazz greatness. It's not flashy. It's not pushing the envelope or redefining anything. But if you walked into a bar and these cats were laying this stuff down, you'd remember it forever.
Blue Note had a classic album sound and structure and Back At The Chicken Shack is possibly a perfect example of just what made this structure work so well. I could pick 101 released on Blue Note between ‘56 and ‘70 that could feasibly be on this list, but Jimmy Smith is a good choice. He’s a very warm performer, I first fell in love with him through his excellent rendition of Just Friends on the excellent album House Party, and his style of Hard Bop is one of the best for introducing people to Jazz. It’s got enough intellectual musical edge that it satisfies that part of the brain that I listen to Jazz with, but it’s also got enough solid blues and R&B backing that it doesn’t feel intimidating. This isn’t jumping straight into Ascension or Free Jazz. But I can guarantee that if you found something to like on this album, if you give it enough time and nurture that little Jazz flame in the back of your head, you’ll get to those albums eventually. I’d check out more Jimmy Smith, then go on to some Dexter Gordon, Go! is a good place to start, or Lee Morgan, check out the Sidewinder. Then try some Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and whichever of the instrumentalists sticks out to you the most there, you’ll be bound to find half a dozen good albums that they were leader on
I love the jazzy sound of this album.
When I got this album yesterday, my undercaffeinated brain read "Jimmy Smith" as "Jimmy Cliff." Pushing play, I didn't get the expected snare and envelope filtered-guitar of a reggae tune, but instead the lovely tones of a Hammond B-3. Damn is this good. Five tracks of tight, smooth groove. If you've ever nodded your head to the sound of "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MG's, then you're in for a real treat. Just a great listen from start to finish. Enjoy! Unexpected banger: Messy Bessie.
I really enjoyed this album. It reminded me of the jazzy music that was on old-school Sesame Street.
Yes sir! Great music
Chill jazz
Very cool, enjoyed this will listen again
Very good music no lyrics which was nice. Very calming and relaxing.
I love his organ. Guys grow up, I am talking about his dick.
Lovely. I'll be coming back to this one. I had never heard of Jimmy Smith despite a passing interest in Jazz history. I absolutely adore the organ in Jazz and Rock settings so hearing this as part of the popularization was awesome. Really an easy time listening. I'm excited to explore more of his recordings. For Chicken Shack specifically, I love Stanley Turrentine on the sax. That was a name I already knew and I wasn't surprised to hear him rip. Kenny Burrell and Donald Bailey make a very right rhythm section with Jimmy that hook you in on each track. I think every player had their moments of glory. As much as Jimmy Smith stays supportive throughout the record, the organ does really shine the most. That lush tone really brings out the best parts of the ensemble. I especially dug Minor Chant. I love a simple idea played out to perfection.
This slaps
This is a fine album and enjoyable in its own context. And owing to his influence on the wider world of the Hammond organ, it feels right to call it a five-star classic. But it's hard to place as a jazz album in a list amongst mostly popular music albums that exist mostly as distinct artistic statements, where Back At The Chicken Shack is one slice of a constant outflow of Smith's jazz recordings throughout the 50s, 60s, and 70s — this album even being one of a pair (the other being Midnight Special) culled from a single session at Van Gelder Studios.
cool early 60s jazz/blues, can't fault it
Uau!!
Musica legal pra estudar, sem vocais
Jimmy's a legend. I'd probably recommend one of his albums - maybe even this one - for those who don't like jazz. It's easy, upbeat, fun, funky. For '60 too. It's great. Can't deny Jimmy Smith. 4.8
Mellow jazz, very approachable. This is the stuff you introduce people to jazz with before you dive into the deep end with Coltrane or Mingus
Way cool album!
I love jazz. Jazz, jazz, jazz.
Jazzy, I dig it
Jimmy Smith is a legend.
Did not
nice, especially good: when i grow too old to dream on the sunny side of the street
Getting FNV vibes this shit fucking slaps
Classic jazz blues album
Vibed out the whole morning!
Loved this album
This was soooo good 🫶
You can hear the influence on modern jazz/prog/jam bands in this album. I accidentally moved on to the "Root Down" live album after this album and I think I like that one even better.
This album was dope. File under “should have listened to by now.” I like that this list doesn’t shy away from jazz. In my opinion there could be a separate list of only jazz albums. Goes right alongside my love of Booker T. and Delvon Lamarr - which I am listening to right now since this album has put me in the mood.
Nice!
fabulous. Jimmy on the keys makes everybody happy.
Hammond joy! Influential and worthy of a high rank in the 1001. You will know these tracks if you have been around music a lot. I thought I would not know one, but I knew and enjoyed them all.
This was a nice easy listen I enjoyed it. Bluesy jazzy. Daughter enjoyed it as well.
Groovy
Fantastic jazz; great use of a B3. Been a Jimmy Smith fan since I was a straight ahead DJ years ago.
Stellar album. Jimmy's talent is apparent and produces a warm and calming sound. Easy to listen to but interesting. Super approachable jazz without being milquetoast.
Sgoood
This was perfect for a Monday Morning. The chill jazz was amazing! So easy to relax to. I liked the organ in particular, so jazzy with its tone and playing. The tracks, while long, are perfect instrumental tracks. The amazing playing and vibes from here carry the project. This is really good! I could recommend this to somebody, cool!
I was really not sure what to expect when I saw the album cover. I definitely did not expect a wonderful jazzy afternoon. Lovely stuff.
Really enjoyed this. I would never have known about Jimmy Smith. This is why I like this project.
best recommendation! thanks for the jazz
Loving the groove. Must have inspired Allman Bros, Sly…maybe not but jus’ sayin’
I listened to it two other three times.
Smooth!!
Did not know what to expect and was pleasently surprised
Loves
Funky. What a vibe.
I love that fat Hammond organ sound.
Loved this one so much!! Bought it on ITunes!!
This is definitely some jazz. I recognize the importance of this album, and it's really easy to listen to. It makes me think of sitting in a dark club, smoke swirling, a drink on the table, chatting with someone at my table. It's also not music I'd reach for on the regular, so I guess it's good it was my first album to listen to in this project.
Everything i always want to hear
Mind bending
The Hammond Organ in Jazz can be difficult to execute. Jimmy Smith comes along with not only expert chops at the Hammond, but brings along his band that shine on sax, guitar, and drums. 5/5
Fantastic! Never heard of Jimmy Smith and loved it.
Beautiful album. Stylish.
Loved it!
Smooth as hell combo of standards, blues bop, and straight soul. Hella low key dinner hang music, adjacent to Montgomery, Christian or Bird.
