One of the game changers in musical history 👌
A classic punk rock album that still holds up today
рррротен. god save the queen. драйвово, грязно, по-пистолски.
Not a great album at all but it sparked a movement! It has a cultural significance that gets it on lists like this, PIL is a much better group but still
Fun album. Takes me back to my spiked hair, torn jeans, combat boots, and leather jacket days in the 80s.
Punx not dead ;-/
One of the most important releases of all time for the evolution of music. Well-deserved 5, even though there is the inclusion of "Bodies" on the track list.
I’m at a 5. It’s just a raw fucking album, and I love that. Right from the album title, this thing sets a tone and an expectation that’s instantly met throughout the whole thing. Never mind the bollocks, forget the bullshit, forget the marketing, forget the catchy album titles – this isn’t “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, it’s the fucking Sex Pistols, and you’ll just have to deal with it. That’s the expectation, and it’s the core tenet of the album – Johnny Rotten couldn’t give less of a shit about your opinion on his opinion. He is brutally honest throughout this whole thing, and I respect most of that honesty -- the only song I can't really respect the "honesty" on is "Bodies". “Bodies” is probably the one that’s aged the very worst, and I didn’t like it one damn bit, but it’s not like I can debate the guy over it. It's a shame, because the instrumentation is pretty good, but I just can't agree with any part of the messaging. Regardless of how I feel on that track, his honesty in those moments spreads throughout the entire album, with perhaps the greatest prescience of all time in “God Save The Queen” – opinion of the royal family and the British monarchy has probably dipped as far as it has because of whatever avalanche that song probably started. The instrumentation on here is just as much of a highlight as Johnny Rotten’s vocals and lyrics – this is great punk rock. It’s a little overblown and overdone at points on this album, but when it’s fucking rolling, and Johnny is throwing his nasally voice out there in perfect harmony and energy, there is nothing that hits more of a raw nerve. I could point to 90s grunge, but even that’s steeped within production standards, commercialism, and a more sensible form of storytelling as opposed to how often this album tends to punch down on a few people just for the hell of it. EMI probably fucking deserved it, though. Anyway, I just really liked it – it is a brutally honest album for 1977, and I’m guessing it sort of snapped people out of this idea that everyone just had to try and be the Beatles. It’s raw as hell, it sounds great to this day, and its influence is likely immeasurable for the 1980s and beyond. Easy 5.
4/5
Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols - Sex Pistols (1977) Ah Fuck this and fuck that, fuck it all and fuck the fucking brat... Melhores músicas: Holidays in the Sun, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the U.K., Bodies, Pretty Vacant, New York, E.M.I. Piores músicas: N/A 4.5/5
Pinnacle punk.
I loved it.
The angst!!
Even though musically this album is so-so. The influence and waves that it sent throughout the alternative world is undeniable. I would be remiss to not give it a 5 for that alone.
Every so often in this you get an album that stands on its record. Lots of bands have influence but this was a seismic point in the history of music. Their influence is obviously huge but also, as a Brit, you can ground it in a time when everything was going to shit. The 70s were terrible, a dark, dangerous, difficult, hopeless decade and it took a long time to get out of it. Punk was a product of that. Sure the Clash made better albums, and others had the same ideas but the Pistols were a package of music, attitude and PR management that made a serious impact. And you know what, Anarchy in the UK, God Save the Queen, Pretty Vacant etc. all sound forceful nearly 50 years later. And people still jump up and down and sing along. Not bad.
Some groundbreaking stuff here. Compositionally, not so much. But the results can't be argued with.
Fuck you.
I love this album and I 100% blame it for turning me into a complete shithead in my late teen years. Still goes hard 10/10 Memories of pointless rebellion
Never Mind the Bollocks is the only studio album release by the Sex Pistols, and is likely the most influential punk album of all time. A mixture of the thrashing energy of the guitars, and Johnny Rotten's snarling lyrics, the Sex Pistols's music defined punk. Their music scared people - "Anarchy in the U.K." was beyond what many were willing to accept from popular music. This is simple, driven, guitar based punk, that became more popular than any album like it had even gotten. It has come to be regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time, because of the raw energy the Sex Pistols were able to capture in their music.
One of my all time favorites, and not just because of its influence. It has held up for me over the years, and I continuously come back to it.
Definition of coolness.
Favourite Song: Anarchy In The UK
All time classic
Day206 - it’s wild that the sex pistols had one album and it’s an all time great
tight as shit. rock tf out. yeah.
37 years since I first heard this album. 47 years since this album was released. Go on I dare you to play Bodies on full pelt and not offend someone. Sometimes dismissed as grubby pub rock in fancy clothing, Never Mind The Bollocks is a landmark album.
Not all albums that are considered classics are good. I am looking at you, "Rumours." I know, it's a hot take and its controversial as fuck. Never Mind The Bollocks is a good classic album. What makes it a classic? The messaging of its resistive nature can be heard throughout the ages. Before it was made? Relevant. After and beyond? Completely and authoritative. What makes it good? It is about itself and only itself. The Sex Pistols provided a platform for the whack, the weird, and the wild. You don't even need to know what punk actually is or who came before them or after them to know that Bollocks wasn't about the Sex Pistols: It was about the internalized raging cacophony of the world's people.
I don't trust anyone who has never wanted to burn the whole fucking thing down.
Music 2.0
The songs on this record changed my youth forever. It may not be the best punk record but one of the most influential.
John Lydon is a bit of an arse. This album is the shit though.
Can somebody say that this is not a historic, ground breaking record? Did they invent punk? No. Were they the first ones to marry rebellion and music? No. But they had something special: they had the perfect sense of time and place. I think that’s why Malcolm McLaren is also a notable character in this story. He was the puppeteer that created the perfect storm. Listening to this 50 years after its release you can tell its weight. Great piece of history.
Thought it may be dated but actually held up really well. Really enjoyed it yesterday and then thought I'd give it another go today expecting to give it a 4. Its a sort of 4.5 but I'll be generous.
When I saw this recommended, I thought, "Yeah, okay, sure, classic album with historical significance, I guess I'll re-listen." But wow! I haven't listened to this album in probably a decade or more, but wow! When I first listened (late '80s), I thought, yeah, it's pretty good, and I understood the historical significance. And I would listen to it from time to time over the years. But wow... this is better than I recalled. The energy is awesome. But... energy isn't enough -- a lot of bands can do that. These are just great tunes as well! And *then*, after all that, you throw in the historical significance, and this is an easy 5 star album.
Been a long time since I listened to this. It is actually better than I remember. And the impact it had on music and even culture at the time were huge. It really shook things up and led to a lot of be a different things in rock. So I see why it is on the list.
Classic It’s been a long time since a 5 star review
iconic. still punchy, so timeless. where did johnny rotten's righteous anger go
still one of my favorite records ever. It has energy which may never be matched
One of my favourite albums ever…
Brilliant. For years I'd just thought the Pistols had lived off their reputation and history but this reminded me what an incredible classic this was and how ground breaking. I loved all the big songs like God Save the Queen, Pretty Vacan and Anarchy in the UK but the deep cuts like Holidays in the Sun and Submission were real surprises. It's also surprisingly better played than I remember, and I loved Johnny's lower register on Submission. Excellent.
Muito bom
I’ve heard maybe half of these songs but never gave the album a full listen. This feels, to me, to be the quintessential punk album: the right amount of rock, anger, sloppiness, power vs restraint.. definitely earns its place on the list as I believe it was influential on many other groups, but I also can understand why some other listeners don’t like it - everyone has their own tastes. But for me this is an easy 4.5/5
Fuck yeah that’s it
A classic, ahead of it’s time, angry, cheeky, controlled chaos.
Classic
up yours geezer
- CLASSIC - this is like the punk album - iconic title - songs are good, good energy while not sacrificing good jams
Not bollocks at all.
they were wrong though, there was a future
Kurt Cobain is supposed to have said that the Sex Pistols were 100 times more important than The Clash, and in a lot of ways I think that it’s a very true statement. Sex Pistols were, not exactly a foot in the door, rather a battering ram, that paved the way for the mainstream acceptance of Alternative music. I think the inevitable Pistols/Clash comparisons are interesting, because they always come down, in my opinion, to the question of power vs subtlety in music. It’s not a perfect comparison, The Clash were also a powerful band, and had the Pistol’s survived more than the one album, it’s entirely possibly they may have gained subtlety, especially considering PiL were a very subtle band at times. I’m in favour of subtlety, as a rule. Yes, there is a place for pure power and rage, but life is complex, and the best way to represent that is through the shifting and incredibly precise changes in viewpoint, motivation and allegiance that the Clash are able to recreate with their lyrics. But then, for the 37 minutes Never Mind The Bollocks is playing, all I want to do is pogo and bash the shit out of my drums. It’s power overwhelms the subtle part of my brain and pounds it into submission, leaving me with no feelings but how much I want anarchy in The UK. Ok, I’ll stop, sorry. Or maybe I won’t, I’m a liar after all. What I’m trying to say is that there is something undeniably cathartic about this record, and it manages to capture a moment in a particularly memorable way. I do still prefer The Clash, but this is probably the second best album within the two band’s discography. And that’s saying something
timless
England's dreaming / no future.
Nowadays we live in a disgusting cult of celebrities. This could have started much sooner if these young Brits hadn't had the courage to express their anger. There is no way to imagine a world without Punk Rock and, without a doubt, this album is the definitive album of this genre. Album that made the great Rockstars come down from their pedestals as celestial and untouchable beings, in the presence of a band that spoke to the people.
tja... ben hiermee opgegroeid en blijft een dijk van een plaat... en de ideeën blijven overeind
Johnny Rotten is underrated as an artist. Personal enjoyment: 5/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
top, als vinyl vorh.
An absolute classic. Snarling, snotty, and loud, but there are great songs behind all the attitude.
5/5 - love this album
Loved this!! felt really raw, and realll
.... do I really need to add anything to this?
Great not too much a fan of punk rock but the more you listen it grows
Super cool
Still sounds fresh
i feel like there is not much that can be said about this album, just very solid and also part of my favourite turning point in music, they weren't the first or best but what they represent is massive.
Genre defining classic that I know well
A real nostalgia soft spot album for me. This album blew my mind when I first heard it as a 13 year old kid in the 90s. It opened my mind to non radio play music. Or at least what would make it on to my town's two rock based stations. I bought it because the cover looked cool. The opening guitar riff of Holidays in the Sun will forever be etched in my brain as a turning point milestone in my life. The whole album really hit me properly even if Problems does drag on a bit 30ish years after I discovered it. One of the most famous punk albums of all time happens to be one of a handful of albums I have instantly loved on first listen. Being the first of such albums this one holds a very important place for me in my all timers list. Five stars 10 out of 10.
Lived up to the hype. I liked this a lot!
All timer. Classic. Punk perfection.
It's amazing to find an album that is known to be good actually be this amazing. Almost half a century later. people are still trying to replicate the magic of this album, making it feel as it came out yesterday
classic...
I remember expecting to hear discordant noise. What I got was a wall of guitars backing Lydon's snarl. Songs that ranged from anger to WTF? (Bodies is the starring example of that) Just brilliant.
Wow, I really enjoyed this one from start to finish!
Organized chaos Loud, abrasive, so much fun Barely holding on
I try not to think in terms of genre too much, but I have this opinion about punk: "Bodies" could have been the only punk song ever, and the genre would be just as good and important. What a blast; makes everyone uncomfortable - false end into fuck it all to fucker, fucking brat! I feel similarly about no shelter by RATM ( ie it could have been their only song and accomplished everything they went for). Regardless the rest of the album has some hooks, and lines, and sneering attitude and importance and all that shit, but 5 * for bodies.
5 / 5 I remember when the Sex Pistols and “Punk Rock” were on the evening news. I remember when Sid killed Nancy. I must have been in 6th grade or so. I had this album. Right there next to my Beatles, Cheap Trick and Queen records. This album smokes and rips. It’s full of attitude. Relentless guitar. It's perfect at what it does. -April 7 2024
Great energy - I definitely have to give it another listen sometime Love the guitar
A record who's songs are strong enough to match up with the band's lore. I haven't listened to this album in like 20 years, and it blew my mind how beautifully it's aged. These songs just blast out of the speaker, and had to have sounded completely mindblowing coming off a turnable for the first time in the late 70s
This changed the world! Not just mine.
Classic! Wird nie langweilig.
This falls into the same basket as Talking Heads 77 and Devo: Are We Not Men. Best favorite perfect albums of my young adulthood. No criticism other than this should have been a double album. 5 stars.
An absolute classic. This album never gets old.
Blind album and artist. Pleasantly surprised at how good it is. Holy crap this album grew on me for sure throughout the day and I'm hooked. I'm shocked how much I love this and this is why I started this project. Another album to add to my favorites.
Blueprint album of the first UK punk wave, contains pretty much THE classics of the genre
Sex Pistols released their only album in 1977, and Queen Elizabeth II continued to reign for another 45 years - possibly purely out of spite. Also, John Lydon didn't actually hate Pink Floyd, but just wanted to stir shit up. And boy did it work!
Everything about the history of Sex Pistols is chaotic. They were really just there to make some noise, stir shit up and leave - and that’s exactly what they did.
Fuck me, this still sounds fresh. It’s years since I listened to the album - I think someone taped it for me and I probably lost the cassette in about 1998. And I was far too young to appreciate it at the time. But heck, it’s a pretty good album. The musicianship is surprisingly strong and the vocal carries everything with the damned attitude. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would and will definitely listen to it again.
Goodfathers of P*U*N*K
idk yet
English Punk incarnate. Interesting sound and oddly palatable considering. Incredibly influential and exceptional
Great
Such a wonderful historical album. Today nobody will understand why "God save the Queen" was a major scandal. But it took some courage for "Virgin Records" to publish this - now classic - album (nobody else wanted to!). An important contribution to the world of rock and popular music.
Eargasm
Punk rock. Likely considered THE classic punk album, Never Mind The Bollocks is the essence of the original movement. The instrument playing is average at best (Steve Jones on guitar is probably the best of them) but the anger and frustration that comes through their songs is electric. Great energy, unapologetic lyrics and the sneering vocals of Johnny Rotten make the Sex Pistols classics even to this day.
What power! The crunch of the guitar sound. The snap of the drums. The thud of the bass (mostly Steve Jones again) and the sneer of the vocals. They were never going to top this. Perfection.
One of the best of all time.
Very fun
epic, life changing.
Stone cold Classic! Perhaps the greatest and most impactful Punk album ever. I first heard tracks played on a late night radio show at Colorado College in the winter of ‘80, just as I was getting dragged in. Every song kicks ass, in full fuck-off, with no regrets. I could listen to this anytime, any day, anywhere.
My cousin gave me this album on cassette when I was in fifth grade and it melted my goddamned brain. One of the all-time great rock and roll records. Bodies has gotta be one of my top three favorite songs about botched abortions.
(1) The pinnacle of my rock n roll career was closing our set at the EO Smith High School 1986 Battle of the Bands with "Pretty Vacant." We (my first band, The Jalapeno Tabernacle Choir, featuring Kevin Crockett on guitar) were unofficially disqualified because we were just about the only band to not perform "Crazy Train" that afternoon, which was heretical. But anyone who was there knows who got the crowd on their feet and dancing and rocked that cafeteria the hardest. By the way, one of the other non-winning bands that day was led by future Bud Collins Trio guitarist and my eventual brother in law although at this time we were not on speaking terms Pat Guiney ("The Funny Hit Parade"). Another band had a rock star of tomorrow you know reverently playing "Panama." (2) A couple of years ago, my son was getting into heavy metal and I felt compelled to pull him aside. I explained that there are two kinds of people in this world, metal heads and punk rockers, and that our family was a punk rock family. I felt like I was communicating effectively because I could tell that he could tell from the tone of my voice that he should take this conversation very seriously. So this morning I told him that we got assigned Never Mind The Bollocks. He shook his head and with a judgemental tone cried something about the Pistols being "the first corporate plants" because they were sellouts from the beginning. Ha - I'm kvelling!
Loved it
Angry manufactured punk. It's a great album, with plenty of genuinely great tracks. A testament to the skill of producers - you absolutely do not need talented musicians when you've got great production.
oh hell yeah
Right out the gate this album comes screaming at you. Must have been quite the culture shock back then. Plenty of punk classics are here, and Johnny Rotten's voice is just perfect with the rest of the aggression on display here
Classic!!!
I enjoyed this more than I expected to! I suppose I was mostly anticipating a generic British punk rock album that didn't shine. However, I was repeatedly impressed by feeling like the baseline for production value on this record was really high. Fun album that I can definitely see myself coming back to. 9/10. Favorite Songs: No Feelings, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the U.K., Sub-Mission, Pretty Vacant Least Favorite Songs: Seventeen
Classic punk!
Ah, the filth and the fury, the moral outrage, councils banning the tour, shocked parents. The perfect album for bored teenagers throughout the UK.
One of my favorites, for many reasons. Revitalized rock and roll by giving the establishment the middle finger... which is the very essence of rock and roll.
tafino ta fino mucho punk, no apropiado pa oficina pero si si, ingleses mal pero en verda estos se salven
The first and only true punk album I’ve ever enjoyed. And so it begins! BRING ON THE PUNK. 4.5
Classic, even the mistakes are influential on pretty much every band since! I still prefer the Clash, but only just. Also, the TV series Pistol is worth a watch - although it's only one guy's view of the events leading up to this album
Regustillo a vinilos, amigos, Lavapies, Malasña, cerveza y olor a tabaco en tu camiseta y vaqueros....
Quintessential punk album.
So disappointing, having explored the production of The Clash, previously, but now recognized as a classic.
Classic and one of the basis of British punk, as amazing as ever
Sounds better now than it did as a teenager. A bit manufactured, as we all now know, but still influential, important, and great.
Yeah, decent. Wanna smash some shit up now.
Classic.
This album is really good punk rock, but it just sounds like punk rock. They were clearly influence by all the punk rock greats, since they released this in............NINETEEN SEVENTY-SEVEN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! THEY WEREN'T INFLUENCED, THEY ARE THE INFLUENCE.
Sehr flott, eigenwillig, sehr ansprechend
Fundamental pela influência no desenvolvimento constante do rock.
Classic
Ein mikilvægasta plata allra tíma. Ef Sex Pistols hefðu ekki komið fram væri líklega margt af þeirri tónlist sem ég elska ekki til . Ekkert Clash, ekki Rokk í Reykjavík, ekkert postpunk og leiðinlegra indie. Platan er líka bara svo skemmtileg, ógleymanleg lög. Anarchy, God Save the Queen, Pretty vacant. Auðvitað mýta að þeir hafi ekkert kunnað á hljóðfæri, þéttir og góðir með 21 árs reiðan John Lydon með rotnar tennur. Textarnir góðir samtímatextar. God save the Sex Pistols!
5* Raw, passionate, impactive, important.
Great
I fucking love the sex pistols
Just a fantastic, legendary, and endlessly influential punk album! Always an amazing listen, and I own it on vinyl which is always a plus!
5/5. I truly do not like the main singer from what I have seen on the news but man do these songs slap. Love the direct controversial topics and the unwavering opinion of Rotten, which is nice to see in punk where some bands are afraid to say what they mean, for fear of not being liked. I don't necessarily agree with all the lyrics but hey, I do dig the music and the passion, and some of the lyrics. It's just an objectively good album from what I'm hearing. Plus the simple instrumentation, with driving guitar chords and 4/4 time signature allows Rotten to just say what he wants to say without being overbearing.
Made one great album and thousand great bands.
Ahhhh....here's a good 1. Ground breaking, controversial and drawing from a host of sources - but mainly rock and punk! I was 11 when this came out, in that glorious year of 1977. I remember reading about the controversy around the Jubilee and 'God save the Queen'. My parents were way too square to have this sort of noise in the house so I had to subversively listen via friends and the odd record shop that would play this. It was challenging but exciting! An album that picks up a certain mood of the time and was what loads of young people were listening to and needed an outlet for. I'd give this a 5 but the weak(er) songs just miss out - Liar and Problems aren't great. That said the strong songs are outrageously good - Pretty Vacant, Holidays in the Sun and Anarchy in the UK. Ah fuck it, 5 stars it is. This is a brilliant album.
Hell. Fucking. Yes. I obviously have a slight bias towards this his as first wave British Punk is one of my favourite periods of music but my god what an album. Beyond the fact it is such a solid punk album, it is THE punk album that set the foundations for an entire genre. This album shows that even if you can’t sing, play instruments, or write songs, you can become music legends. Shame all the band members are complete cunts. 5/5
Classic.
11/10/2023 Ya lo había escuchado Can't hate it 5/5
Punk never dies. So good
Seminal
One of the most iconic albums of all time. Changed music forever
One of the prototypical punk album by one of the protoypes in the punk genre. NMTBHTSP (weird acronym) is purely 100% unadulterated punk energy. In the current age of microgenres mixing genres, emotions, lyrical content, instruments and more to make unique sounds, this somewhat old album harkens back to a time when genres were far more simplistic. When punk was just punk, metal was just metal, disco was just disco, and so on. While I will not indulge in a rosy retrospection of this foregone period and extol the "purity" of music, I must say that NMTBHTSP delivers on exactly what they promise. Young, angry, British men screaming against the government and popular conventions. As I said earlier it's one of the prototypical punk albums and is the literal definition of the entire genre.
When it comes to Sex Pistols it's so easy to get trapped in stereotypical thinking about punk, how it's simple, noisy, unsophistocated and there's no much skill and more shouting than singing really. A little time passes and you forget that Sex Pistols is just good music and in its own merit too, not only because it was so revolutionary and influencial. I'm glad I refreshed my memory.
I belive that this is one of the albums that should be rated with release date in mind. Today's equivalent of this album would get 4. But this album is more than 45 years old. I would like to be in such a good shape when I will be 45.
Need to listen to the whole thing later
Great punk rock. Can really why it's so influential, the lyrics in God Save the Queen etc are timeless
I didn't expect the album to end when it did. Kept waiting for one more song. Classic punk.
Perfection.
Not the first punk album and arguably not the best. But it definitely set the standard for the genre, in terms of look, energy, and attitude. The Sex Pistols were the stereotype of punk rockers and influenced countless acts. The band itself is a little artificial though, created and led by their manager and surviving only long enough for this single album. While that is antithetical to the spirit of punk, I'll be damned if Malcolm McLaren didn't give the world something interesting though.
Don't even need to say much about this one, its The Sex Pistols, they jumpstarted punk in the UK and this was the album that did it. I've seen some hate for this album because of the admittedly terrible production, but I really don't think that the band or their fans ever wanted it to sound any different. They clearly set out to make a dirty, crude, new sound for this and they couldn't have done any better in my opinion. 10/10, always fun
A truly great album. So many good songs. The energy of this album is great and the choruses are memorable with unique vocals.I love it.
This album rocks all the way through. Five stars.
Fun listen. Good album for a drive with the windows down.
🔥
My first perfect 5 score. It really is totally faultless, so imaginative and delivered with so much vitriol from start to finish. Started a revolution in music. So often imitated but as always the original always triumphs. Chefs kiss
Amazing! I forgot how great each song on that album is.
A classic!
Great energy, very fun. Never Mind the Bollocks, this has been my favorite album so far.
One of the most hyped albums of all time and it's still criminally underrated. The music is a little basic at times, but this is part of the raw charm that exudes throughout. The rather murky production just makes this sound like it's been recorded live, rather than in a studio with a million takes. There's so many standout tracks here, Holidays in the Sun, Bodies, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK, and Pretty Vacant. Even the weaker tracks are superb, with a special call out for Submission, which has to be one of the biggest piss take tracks ever and has it's own little back story. The whole band are really tight, much better than they should be for being pretty much self-taught. I'm guessing lots of live performances helped here. Steve Jones keeps it all hanging together, playing lead guitar and bass guitar for most of the tracks. Combined with Lydon's anti-singing it's aged well and still sounds fresh in the 2020s. Like a breath of fresh air, the lyrics to each song are simple and honest. One of the best albums of all time and a well-deserved 5 stars.
really solid tracks: holidays in the sun liar no feelings god save the queen bodies EMI great album
Punk perfection.
Go back to being a small boy in the 1970's, with mum taking my brother and I to Bedford - Scrawled on Flitwick railway bridge is a 'Sex Pistols' graffito. So my brother asks mum what that means. She says they are a rude and awful band! Fast forward 10 years, which in that time we had been given their first 3 singles by my uncle, had fallen in love with this rude and awful band. The B sides were good too, which included a cover of 'No Fun' but not included on the album. Enough waffle, although simplistic musically, the energy carries the songs. Nevertheless, the singles are iconic, but probably my favourite track is Submission. A 5 all day long.
Classic, doesn't sound as hard as it once was
In 10th grade my parents spotted this album among my meager collection and announced “we don’t want that smut in our house!” I protested that they didn’t know what they were talking about and hadn’t even heard the record. Well, mum, dad and young Nick sat down to take in Malcolm McClaren’s handiwork. We made it to track 2 (“Bodies” with its “fuck this and fuck that fuck it all the fuck out of the fucking brat…”) and screeech off came the needle and there went my budding punk rock record collection. Moving forward I kept Dead Kennedys albums hidden in Blondie sleeves. Learned that lesson… So yeah, special place in my black heart for this gem. Sure it’s all artifice and what not (“ever feel like you’ve been had”) but it doesn’t matter. The snotty joy that these snarled songs brought to my disaffected youth gave me hope that others out there felt as alienated as I did. Listening to this I am reminded of the words of D.Boon in History Lesson Part 2: “Our band could be your life Real names'd be proof Me and Mike Watt played for years Punk rock changed our lives” (I’m sure we’ll get to that record eventually). Punk rock changed my life. This one is in my all time top 10. God save the queen!
Brilliant. Anarchy in the Ukay!!!!!!!
Awesome. Can hear their sound throughout so many punk bands I like. Bible for Punk Rating: 4.8
Groundbreaking work. Still relevant
Good
So good, have listened to this album many times, always gets me hyped up!!
I mean, what's not to love?
Never heard this album. I obviously know who the Sex Pistols are and know a couple of the songs but have not made a point to simply just sit down and listen to this. Didn't know this was really the only album they ever made. This is more power-pop-punk than I anticipated. It's punk but I don't know if I expected it to be as powerful guitar-wise as I had anticipated. Having never heard this album, I can say this is an album that has to be heard. "Holidays in the Sun" starts the album off strong and may be my favorite song.
Another winner. So many bloody good tracks
Album 136 of 1001 Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols Rating : 5/ 5 Favorite Track : God Save the Queen Their only studio album. That is something I wasn't aware of. Must have been such an influential album for so many. Have had a big change of thought on The Sex Pistols and punk, in general. Catchy songs, good guitar riffs, awesome front man. Not much one could complain about. Gets points for its place in music history.
aguante sex pistols viva el punk
A raw and savage wall of sound combined with angry, sneering lyrics, spat out with contempt but paradoxically full of wit, irony and knowing… an album that is horrifying, yet almost fun (that is, if your idea of fun is rubbing your cock against a cheese grater). ‘Never Mind The Bollocks…’ is all this and more, and still hits as hard as it did in 77’.
This is the epitome of the Sex Pistols, the rock god anarchists of the UK! This album is truly high octane and relentless in its energy. With classic tracks that have permeated throughout history and have gone onto inspire countless artists since then. Best: Anarchy in the UK Worst: EMI
Damn. I really like this
As a big fan of the genre, I always hear people spouting off that tired "they're a boy band" critique. Not only is that not exactly accurate, it doesn't matter either. How much out thre really sounded like this when it came out and explored the themes thay they were? It's an important record and it's got some bangers too. Honestly I'm very over some of the big songs after all these years of hearing them so often, but they're still good songs. The Sex Pistols might bot be the best punk band ever, but this record is so important. The bands they influenced would get better and help grow the genre that I enjoy so much.
One & for all, the fundamental subversion of rock & roll. There's nothing left to hold or hope, even their fate & career! Fav Track: Problems
Masterpiece!
I mean, how can this get less than 5 stars?
Just when rock needed it most, this album shook up the establishment and gave rock a much deserved kick in the ass.
Classic
This brings back some fond memories. My A Level media studies coursework was on the progression of punk music, from Sex Pistols to Rancid to Green Day. I don’t think I’ve listened to this album in full since then, and that was quite literally half my life ago. I think this is going to be a fun listen. Songs I already knew: all of them to some degree Favourites: God Save The Queen, Anarchy In The UK, Bodies It all came back once I was listening to this! There’s no denying the impact of Sex Pistol in punk music, but I’ve also always been fascinated by the surprising manufactured nature of the band. That aside, the music is catchy, raw and full of angst. It works in their favour that the music is quite simple and they have minimal musical experience because it really adds to how rough and ready it sounds. My only critique would be that there isn’t really much difference from song to song, but otherwise I liked this a lot.
The classic punk album, 100% should be on this list, they sound good on this album but notoriously terrible musicians so if anything it’s more impressive how good this album sounds. There are better punk albums in my eyes (direct contrast from London calling which was yesterdays album) but none have Influenced as much as this album is. Therefore I have to give this the full 5 stars.

This hit the spot
Maybe the greatest punk album of all-time
Classic of the punk rock era. Much better than I expected it to be. 5-star for historical reasons.
I've got a hunch these boys are a bit miffed
Dude, that's a fucking legend.
For me, the Holy Trinity of Punk is the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, and the Clash, so I was stoked to see this album appear. It's one of my all-time favorite punk albums (maybe even my #1 pick), and perfectly epitomizes the sub-genre of punk dedicated to anarchic, self-destructive misanthropy. Fuck them, fuck you, and while we're at it, fuck me, too. There's an intriguing sort of freedom in that kind of attitude (as ultimately unsustainable as it may be). My favorite three songs on the album are head and shoulders above the rest (and above most of punk in general): "Holidays in the Sun," "God Save the Queen," and "Anarchy in the U.K." Even if those were the only three songs they'd ever made, I'd still say they belonged in the upper echelons of punk. "Bodies," "No Feelings," and "E.M.I." are a tier below those three, and then the rest of the album's a mixture of decent to so-so. But the good bits are so good that I can't give this anything less than five stars.
Excellent English punk
Let's face it. When you mention punk music, The Sex Pistols will always be one of the first bands mentioned. Though they were really only around for one album, boy did it ever count. Great record.
This is as good as punk music gets. Favorite track: Liar
Gah Ive got so much catching up to do. Gonna spend less time on the obvious ones. May not be my preferred genre but my god it feels as alive as the day it was released.
What a classic. God Save the Queen, Seventeen, and Anarchy in the UK is such a devastating 1 2 3 combo.
Back-to-back classics. As a statement about and for disenchanted youth it is magnificent. The production may be questionable at times, but the energy makes up for it - and then some. And underneath all of the rage are some damn good (albeit basic) rock songs. That contributes to its enduring appeal and influence.
Rude, angry, powerful and fun. A breakthrough album that is up there, (close to but not as good as) with the first album by the Clash. Quite a statement about England in the mid-late '70s.
Am I normally in the mood to listen to this? No. But that should not stop this from getting 5 stars. An iconic statement from top to bottom. Definitely deserves to be here.

Fucks hard.
Nice timing, just before the next one in a long, long line is put on a hereditary throne. This was when the old one ruled the UK for 25 years, and is as fresh as ever. Holidays in the Sun, God Save the Queen, she ain't no human being. Classic. Unemployment, racism, and then all this silver jubilee nonsense, this deserved a brilliant F-U answer, love the lyrics, the shout/singing, the return to old rock and roll and McLarens provocative attitude. Like many things in life it lasted shortly, although we got P.I.L. afterwards.
This is a great album. I'm going for the full 5, I think it probably deserves it
Sounds a little conservative by today's standards, but it's easy to underestimate just how important this was at the time. Johnny Rotten's sneer still sounds as fresh as ever though.
Perhaps the most impactful, consequential and influential one-and-done album in music history, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols is the rumble that provided the groundwork for many a aspiring punk rock band past, present and future to adhere to. Check out every band that came through in the twenty-five or so years after the album's release and there is it's DNA imprinted on every facet of those bands: the ever-reaching sneer and snarl of Johnny Rotten, the devil-may-care/no fucks given postures of Sid Vicious (and Glen Matlock if one wants to include him) and the wonderfully pulverizing strum and stomp of Steve Jones and Paul Cook, not to mention the topics considered to be taboo that has become littered within the universe of punk such as the meandering mundanity of society and scepticism about the affections for the Queen. All in all, rock music from here on out would never be the same and it would have met a quick and fastened end in terms of authenticity were it not for the brief inferno that was The Sex Pistols. No future, no future, no future for you...
hell yeah, this is such a fun record. I still have this CD kicking around somewhere. I remember doing an 16mm found footage montage to Anarchy in the UK in college with bombs dropping on buildings. Wish I still had that.
Sometimes an album is so seismic in its influence that it’s required listening on that basis alone. And while this reviewer might prefer slightly more melodic punk like the Ramones or the Clash, without the Sex Pistols and their loud, defiant filth those bands might never have gained a foothold. Nothing was ever the same after Johnny Rotten proclaimed himself an Antichrist and anarchist.
nothing will ever again be so exciting
A true classic - the definitive punk album - that captures the essence of the genre and the movement as well as a collection of great songs on an album of perfect length. A masterpiece.
Now I wanna know, now-now I wanna known why You never look me in the face Broke a confidence just to please your ego Should've realized you know what I know You're in suspension you're a liar Such a great album that defines the punk sound even today in 2023. 5/5
An album that changed everything. Hardly anything of poor Sid made the recordings - and it's all the better for it.
I got super into this album in high school with my friend Alex let this be his copy on CD, and the DVD of the Classic Albums episode on this. Haven’t heard this in probably 15 years. Every track still rips. I forgot how John Lydon just tries to stuff as much extra lyrical content in as a song is wrapping up.
I really like this album, specially because I'm not use to listen this kind of music.
Love the Sex Pistols. They're on the Mt. Rushmore of Punk in my opinion. This is their best album I think.
John Lydon/Johnny Rotten has turned into a *massive* wanker these days (maybe he always was), but even this sad turn of events can't demean the very nature of this frankly exhilarating LP. *Never Mind The Bollocks...* is not only an amazing collection of biting, angry songs--emphasized by spot-on production values perfectly fitting its gritty-yet-catchy contents. It's also a pivotal record to understand the evolution of rock music in the last 45 years. Because, yep, the influence of this one goes way beyond its punk origins. As a result, what can you do but to give 5 stars to it? Number of albums left to review: 625 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 184 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 85 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 112
I've complained a lot about the number of 70s British Punk on this list - but I won't complain about this one. It's the gold standard. It's everything that's cool about all those other albums and nothing that makes them crappy.
So raw, so wonderful
Well I rated public image a 1 so this might as well be the biggest ratings gap for an individual artist
Epic.. Album. Define an era!!
Quintessential. Starts kicking from the get go and doesn’t stop being angry. The start of some big changes in my musical tastes when I was young.
I don't care about the haters, this is still singlehandedly one of the best Punk albums ever made. I honestly even prefer it to anything by The Clash or Ramones.
It was cool. Then it wasnt. Now it is again. Its mean spirited nature is completely relevant today. Not a filler on here.
This is the only punk album. Everything else is proto, post or pop punk. Actually. This isn't punk either.
This album is a tour de force and The Sex Pistols are as punk as it gets. Listening to this album, I was floored. I don't even like most punk but now I'm aware that what little punk I've heard is just unworthy of the genre. The only other band I'm aware of that, in my mind, comes close to this level of rebellious, anarchic quality is Green Day, but Sex Pistols remain on another level. When I heard "EMI", I had to look into what the song was about (though it was fairly obvious, I didn't know what EMI stood for as an acronym) and I learned they were at such a level of "I don't give a fuck" that they were willing to self destruct for the sake of their artistry. Truly next level shit. The Sex Pistols were amazing beyond belief and I'm grateful that they went all in, bollocks deep. Although I didn't like every song, I still think this deserves 5 stars, especially seeing as the band basically destroyed themselves in its making. Fuck.
Was expecting to cringe listening to this. Spent my youth loving them, then I found 'better' bands. The pistols may be a bit of a caricature at this stage, but they really do still slap. Bodies really stood out. great stuff
My recent punk renaissance led me to pick up a copy at a record store in London which according to my ranking rules equals five stars
No frills punk. Crazy that such an influential band only really released one album. However, the album does make up for that outsized influence.
The first time I saw and heard The Sex Pistols I was 11, watching a "History of Rock-n-Roll" VHS my parents had. After the Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones and Disco the screen exploded with sound and fury as Johnny Rotten, Sid and the rest were spitting into the crowd and kicking over amps. They could barely play their instruments, they looked like shit and sounded worse...and I fucking loved it. Started a musical journey for me, and many others, down a road of music with raw power and attitude. Landmark album.
Crude, rude, and brash. These guys definitely did not just talk the talk. Their sound and attitude has been the benchmark for every punk/hard rock/metal band that has come since. Some bands have come close, but never duplicated all of this. Oh yeah, the music is pretty damn good too.
Awesome!
Revolutionary. can i give more than 5 stars?
Classic and iconic British punk music! Energetic and unrelenting, and still sounds absolutely amazing 45 years later. Favourite: Anarchy In The UK
I bought this blind in a record store and was in no way disappointed! Total punk masterclass; all killer, no filler.
Unforgettable. Once heard can never be unheard!
Full on 5/5.
Classic punk album - one of these timeless albums...
The godfathers of punk, gotta love it
Iconic masterpiece by the most legendary and brilliant industry plants in the world of music. This record is easely in my top 10 albums of punk rock music.
If ever there was an essential album, it’s this one. A lot can be said about the authenticity behind the anarchic message which compelled a generation to throw out the obsolete virtuosity enshrined in the rock rule book and start again, but you only need to look at the droves of bands formed after hearing the Sex Pistols to understand how important this group was (and still is..). It’s well-trodden ground to highlight Malcolm McLaren’s curation of this group as a set of cartoon punk rockers, but the fact is that they were the ones who wrote the songs and stood up on stage absorbing the gobs of spit and vitriol from the general public. They talked the talk, and walked the walk. Everything about this record just slotted in perfectly into the abject social setting of 1970s Britain to rejuvenate an utterly stagnant musical landscape. John Lydon’s lyrics play a huge role in this matter, serving as the clarion call to get out there and start a band. Is there a slightly cartoonish quality to these vaguely anarchistic (sometimes superficially so) sentiments? Yes. But in some sense the most unrefined incarnation of an idea is also its most effective. This album wouldn’t have held up, however, if the songs didn’t carry some kind of enthusiastic optimism - and on this record the songwriting is just outstanding. Glen Matlock and Steve Jones aren’t Yngwie Malmsteen, and that’s why they can come up with the simple brilliance of tracks like No Feelings and God Save the Queen. The latter track has arguably lost a bit of its integrity in light of some obsequious reformist remarks from several band members. But the rally cry against such servility committed to this timeless record will outlast all of that conjecture. The enduring refrain of “No future for you” is the ground zero for the “new wave” of pop music. This album changed the game and it hits as hard today as it ever has done. A timeless classic, the most important record of all time - you name it, there is no superlative great enough to channel the scale of this record.
OK can only rate this on the music as I'm listening now. I know they're "pop-punk" and more of a boy band. Thing is it's so clear and different to everything else it's still so enjoyable and feels like a challenge to established society still.
Very energetic, and repetitive, like the punk should be. Someone could find it too pop, however this is why punk is more popular, stopped from being just noise with lyrics to be lyrics with good noise.
These songs just rip, I cannot believe this is their ONLY studio album!! For a band that has had such an influence it seems impossible. It's easy to hear why they've had such an influence, the songs are catchy and they hit so damn hard.
amazing, classic, iconic
I don't care what anyone says, without the Sex Pistols, there are a huge number of bands that would not exist. It's amazing how influential a band can be when only one actual album was ever recorded. Rarely does a day go by that I don't listen to some Pistols.
Toss out the stories, the legend, the abysmal behaviour and lifestyle of Rotten... This is a loud, fast, exciting album even but modern standards and is still the platinum standard for any aspiring punk band.
Gamechanging - a band who did not give a fuck about calling out what they saw at a time when people were begging for change. But they do still care about making the noise, turning it out. One of those times when you're glad they did just one album because that would have diluted this.
Discazo punk de unos auténticos estandartes. Canciones pegadizas y con ritmo. Destructivos.
Never Mind the Bollocks is one of most influential albums of all time, and also one of the most entertaining. It was probably the gateway to punk for a lot of people over the years, including yours truly. Yes it's everything it was hyped to be: Sneering, acidic, hard driving and full of attitude. But it was also just so much fun to listen to. The songs are incredibly catchy, with a surprising pop sensibility. It's a shame that this is the Pistols' only studio album, but their impact on what was to come in music is immeasurable. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the U.K., Liar, EMI, Submission, Holidays in the Sun, Seventeen, Pretty Vacant, Problems, No Feelings, Bodies
The punkiest of all punk albums. What other band could have this much influence and make this much noise with just a 39 min discography?
Its good
Despite the fact, the Sex Pistols released only one studio album during their all-too short existence, the impact both culturally and musically can't be denied. This is a case where the story/personalities are bigger than the music, as numerous films, books and even a recent TV series about the band have perhaps over-shadowed the music. There were other bands from the same era that left a longer resume of great music (The Clash, The Buzzcocks, The Damned etc.), but the impact of the Pistol's, debut, Never Mind The Bollocks might just be one of the most important and influential albums from the 70's. Sure, it's overrated and their musical talent was questionable at best, but when the word "punk rock" is mentioned, it all begins with the Sex Pistols.
Крутой альбом несмотря ни на что. 1977, единственный альбом Sex Pistols, классика панка. God Save The Queen, Anarchy in The UK.
yooooo
do i buy country life butter? advertise whatever you fucking want johnny, you've paid your dues. sneering nasty album with some monster tracks on it .
Still got it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mSE-Iy_tFY Even jarg butter can't ruin this stone cold classic though.
Definitely pure punk and good listening at that.
Like being thrown in a cold pool to start the day.
Yep
I mean, it's one of the greatest punk albums ever and I love it. This beautiful, frantic mess has inspired so many musicians to stop just bitching about life, pick up a guitar, and pour their feelings into music. It's angry, angsty, nihilistic, and fun. The band just about ripped each other to shreds making it and I'll be damned if that's not just the most punk thing ever. And, as if that weren't enough, "E.M.I." is one of the biggest middle finger tracks ever written. It's such a hard-core snub. A perfect punk-tuation (couldn't help myself) to end a truly monumental punk album.
it’s so good just so so good
An amazing punk album. Even though they're drummer was probably their most competent musician, they made incredible music and Johnny Rotten's lyrics remain poignant and hard-hitting. I've seen a lot of things talking about how he's become a shill for the government lately and it seems like a lot of people talk about, but I haven't seen any of the receipts for it. The bass is lacking a bit, but its understandable as they didn't really have a bass player since Steve Jones had to record most of the bass parts. The guitar riffs are punchy, and the drums are really tight. An instant classic since its release and a must hear album for anyone. Highlights: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10.
Nothing much to add. A band who said EVERYTHING they had to say in one pretty perfect album.
Mean tones, a remarkable complexity in some of the songs I’ve not heard before, and the energy and snark of the singles flows through the whole album. Very impressed
pretty good punk, a tad too bri*ish at parts but usually pretty enjoyable, 9/10
Yeah sex pistols
El PUNK. Vinilo total.
Pretty cool
Epic energy with killer track after track. Love submission and pretty vacant. Amazing.

Superb, and years ahead of its time.
Fuck yeah! One of the foundational punk albums.
One of the definitive punk albums. Best musicianship, no; best recording, no; but is it greater than the sum of all these parts, yes.
El PUNK. Vinilo total.
ok
Not bollocks.
Still vital. A classic.
The dogs bollocks 👍🏾
I like the fury, the anarchy and Johnny's sneering glare. The full album sounds like variations of the same 3 songs, but those 3 are epic.
Rocking punk album that hits. Love everything about this album.

Classic
Where punk started! I said it would be hard for me to give a 5 to an album the first day I listened to it. But with the snarling vocals and rocking guitars, it deserves it!
Not listened to this album for a few years and it was great to hear it again. Had me bouncing around the kitchen.
Much more listenable than I thought it was. So much energy and exciting riffs. Bonus star for pissing off all the papers at the time.
I think I love the vocals and songwriting here more than anything, and the rest of the band accents and also stands out in their own potent way. Anarchy in the UK is my most obvious favorite for a number of reasons. Good job on converting another.
What else is there to say about this album? It’s bold, brash and belongs in the trash. 12 cuts of raw, unpolished music that took the country by storm when they first heard the marching opening to Holidays In The Sun all the way to the final cries of E.M.I on the aptly titled closer.
Love me some classic punk
Classic Punk - a must have, must listen to album
This rocks
I dont even need to play it. I love this masterpiece
Loved it a great classic
A classic. Every song is pure power, aggression, energy, and anarchy.
Energetic, raw
british culture at its finest
5* for it's importance as a piece of social history as well as an album full of bangers
Great album. The energy sums up the early punk era.
