Iconic
Pepinazo d'àlbum. Crec que no l'havia escoltat mai de dalt a abaix i és brutal. Molt potent, ple de temazos, intens, inspirat. Me l'he posat dos cops seguit i m'ha entusiasmat. Quan es va publicar jo complia un mes de vida, i que l'hagi hagut de descobrir avui, amb 43 anys! Una meravella.
CLASSIC!
I'm very partial to british punk, but listening again I am reminded how good, and brutal, songs like No Feelings, God Save the queen, and anarchy in the uk are. Such great punk.
Listened to 3 tracks. Really great sound, one of the pioneers of punk rock.
Pure energy and vitriol unchanged by time.
Aaaassaaiiiiii Want to beeeeeeee An anarchiiiiiiiiiist!!
One of the best punk albums of all time. Gone too soon.
brought punk to the mainstream fav track: god save the queen
Took this album out when I was running. Best decision ever. Angry, passionate while talking about disaffection and hilarious lyrics.
Loved hearing this and properly listening to all the tracks. Great album
Great album, a few songs have made it onto my ‘frangry’ playlist
Ephemeral punk beauty
Never really listened to them before. All the angst! Perfect. However, it started over, and I didn't realize it.
They're gonna have a tough time following up on this one
It began with the Pistols!
Classic punk

well this wasnt the first time that i listened to this album back when i wanted to discover more subgenre of rock this was my first impression of punk rock. It has skips for me but overall i liked it. Its still a mystery for me that how this became a best seller in UK some of these lyrics are really wild and got them banned but however it still they managed to dominate British punk rock with only this album which is such a shame they couldnt get it together and record another studio album. I absolutely love johnny way of pronunciation he just use a lot of unnecessary stresses on syllables i happen to watch some live performances and oh god it was so fun to live back then and see them live But i dont really know what happend to this band and their history i might check them out later but music wise i liked it
This album is really great, such an energetic record with some social commentary. I love this Sex Pistols album. And, even though it is not much pushing or innovative in musical terms, it really works pretty well. The sounds of this album have a very nice touch that give this album the impulse it seeks, the force and sentiment it tries to transmit. And it surely is a very enjoyable record, even if you are not very into punk music, the songs are very well delivered and very catchy too. So, it's a great album, maybe not among my all time favourites, or among the albums I consider masterpieces, but surely this one's an album I can listen to over and over and still feel it fresh in each listening.
Noisy, but strangely compelling
I’ve listened to this album before, but apart from the big songs (God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK, Holidays in the Sun), nothing really stood out to me. Listening to it this time, I’m questioning, how did nothing else stand out?! This album is crazy! Every single song is the angriest song ever, yet it doesn’t devolve into simply just noise in any moment where it wouldn’t be powerful. When I’m wallowing in the realization of how much evil there is in the world, this is the album I want to listen to. It’s not as refined as the best punk albums (I’m talking about London Calling). Not even close. But it’s punkier! It’s angry! If I were an angrier person I’d probably give it a 5. But I’m not, so it’s a 4.
An interesting debut and only studio album from these dudes. Johnny Rotten sounds like Gollum from The Hobbit on a few songs. Sid Vicious can't play the bass and the band dissolves.
The Ramones were first and had more endurance, but Nevermind The Bollocks is the sound of the first cannon fire of a revolution. The Pistols were born to die in a brave, glorious explosion. Unfortunately, the end was more like a whimpering gasp and the legacy keeps dragging itself out like a reflection in a thoroughly smudged mirror. Props to Steve Jones for being a good enough musician to make this record a John Lydon for capturing the disenfranchisement of youth in seventies UK. Style over substance is the lesson learned here and Neil nailed it when he said “It’s better to burn out than fade away”. The Sex Pistols epitomize both sides of that enduring principle. 4.4
Yeah I agree with the critics here this is the best punk album of all time Have gone on record many times saying I really don’t like this genre, and although these guys embody a lot of those problems, they ship it in a format that’s so much more appealing. There’s way, way more variety than I’d expect from a punk album (hello The Ramones), where the tempo actually changes from song to song and the overall energy within a song can actually change. There’s some genuinely great songs (God Save the Queen, Submission) on here that, although rough around the edges, do come out to a good product at the end. Although the albums got a harsh sound it just has good fundamentals from an instrumental point of view underneath Vocals will always be the main draw of my ire for Punk, and unfortunately Rotten does not do much to appease that taste of mine. I’ve definitely heard worse but it’s an acquired taste for sure. There’s also a couple of songs on here that I didn’t like much (Problems comes to mind, just a bit obnoxious). Still though, I 100% think this is the best the genre has to offer, and honestly made me appreciate Punk just a bit more (although it’ll probably piss me off next time we get one since I’ll compare it to this album lol). Too bad this is the only album these guys got out before everything fell apart
Used to underwhelm, still kind of does. SIngles are great, the rest standard punk. 3.5 rounded up Heard before? Yes Owned: Yes, 90/339 (26%) Will I get: Already have
I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. It's pretty juvenile (I mean that as somewhat a compliment and somewhat not) but the guitar is great and the energy is kinda top tier. "God bless the queen! Her fascist regime!" Haha
Not a huge punk fan in general, so I wasn't expecting much from this, despite the couple of songs I was familiar with already. However, I ended up liking this more than I expected. Fairly interesting sounds and progressions going on here.
I love the sound.
As far as I'm concerned, this is more relevant (thanks Mr. Malcolm McLaren) than it is actually great. However, this is still a pretty good album. Songs I liked: "No Feelings", "Liar", "God Save The Queen" (very good), "Problems", "Anarchy in the UK" (my favourite track in the album), or "Submission" (surprising one). I think this is in the range of 3,5 stars. And, by the way, IMO, the Beatles or Bowie are infinitely more disruptive, provocative, and "dangerous". I can't help but feel that this is a bit of a joke...it's real fun, but kind of childish.
Inspired to stick my fingers up and cry fuck the man on my way to my job as a tool of the state
Strong 4 still a powerful vibe, will return to this one again.
Punk classic that, for the fuss, holds up surprisingly well.
Loud guitar. Lots of distortion. Unapologetic vocals. Rock 🤘
Probably closer to 4 & 1/2 stars. One of the all-time albums from across the pond.
Bit of a classic, innit
It's definitely a classic and inspired much of the music I love and for that alone, it has my respect.
I'm never sure how much I actually like Never Mind The Bollocks versus how important it is for the development of music I love. But there are some songs on here that totally shred. It's a lightning strike of an album.
Jamen, det er jo så ikonisk, og jeg er vild med det.
It's 3.75
This is maybe the first punk album I’ve ever enjoyed. Am I playing this on the regular? Absolutely not but it’s also such a fun listen.
I too am a lazy sod
The drums and guitar are SO GOOOD
I am not a huge punk fan , but there is no denying how influential this album was.
Love. I spent a lot of time with this album as a kid. It was great to revisit.
Good album great to listen to agoan
Surprisingly light on the punk for such a seminal punk album.
crazy
More fun than I thought it would be. It seems more suited to dancing than to sitting on a bus and listening to it, though.
British and Punk AF. There's a lot of bands on this list that are influential, but I can hear a lot of the bands I grew up listening to in this album. 4/5
If you were curious about punk in the '80s, this was 100% the first album you got. at 14 I LOVED This album. By 17 I despised it. Have not listened to it in many years but at this stage of my life I can recognize this as an essential piece of history. Sure it's contrived. Yes, it's a punk "boy band" put together my a cultural vampire. But it's still enjoyable after all these years.
Some catchy songs on here. Can hear the influence this had on a lot of newer songs
Ahhahahahah I laugh so much, but it is a banger
4/5
Maybe I'm not young enough or angry enough but a whole album of classic punk is too much for me. Great politics tho!
Really useful in informing my understanding of punk. The lyrics and vocal style show that the band isn't taking itself themselves too seriously but they still have something to say. Not a huge fan of the nasally singing but it does make sense in context. Fun to jam to!
good but why do they enunciate like that
Idk I just really liked this. I normally find punk rock to be really boring but this is fun and cool and the vocals are ugly but they're in tune and they're ugly in a snotty way, which comes off as cool.
(4) at one time it was a 5 now it’s a 4
Old school grunge🤘
Pure energy. The thing I love about punk is that it’s full of anger and passion and derision, but it’s also undeniably fun, even joyous. Hugely influential and deservedly a classic.
Great energy and attitude. Still not a patch on the Buzzcocks
Quintessential Punk album. God Save The Queen Anarchy In The UK
Bonne vibe punk sympa
Sooooo close to my first 5. Yes punk!
Soooo british
We are on a roll with the 70’s/80’s Punk/Alt lately. This Sex Pistols album is pretty fun. A lot of it sounds really samey but honestly it just works for some reason for me. Coming off Joy Division, I was totally down and out on the angsty whiny vocals, but I think the energy and shredding here overrides the lows with John Lyndon on this one. It’ crazy how modern and classic this feels all at once. Submission feels like any rock song from the 90’s or early 2000’s, yet also reminds me of Iggy/Bowie and some of the 70’s stuff before this release. I’m a whore for anything that blends the old stuff and what would come decades later. This album makes me believe I could totally skateboard btw.
It really is insane that punk rock has genuinely never surpassed this. I always saw this album cover thinking it’s just more boomer punk rock, but this is edgy and really fucking cool. The drums are so powerful and that whammy bar is just getting destroyed, and I love it all. Listening to this makes me really hate Green Day. Essentially, Green Day is just a worse version of all the alternatives I have been listening to this week but it is most egregious in the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. Maybe I am not that familiar with Green Day music enough but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth with how much of an influence they had. EVEN THE GUITAR PLAYING AMERICA CANT STOP TAKING FROM THE BRITS. Anyways back to the album. It just flows into itself so well. Without looking at the lyrics, I can still enjoy myself and then I start reading the lyrics and the subtext, and the way that they use a chorus or a guitar solo as a chorus is just so iconic punk and it works. I love god save the queen so much. The call and response between lyrics and guitar again feel so real and the political lyrics just ring so true, even now THE UK elections just happened, and it was wild how it went down. Look it up I am not going to inform you. All in all NO FUTURE is just so punk and feels so raw we will never get music like this again go to local shows support the arts cause the sex pistols paved a way for this awesomeness. Perfect length 12 songs a nice concept of contempt I do not mind the Bollocks.
DAS ist 1977? Hört sich an wie early 2000s/ late 90s Rock, crazy.
No surprises. Solid groundbreaking punk
my airpod fell into the sink while i was listening to this fucking MONARCHIST
great punk album, 9/10 1. God Save The Queen 2. Anarchy in the UK 3. Holidays In The Sun 4. Problems 5. Pretty Vacant 6. EMI 7. Seventeen 8. No Feelings 9. New York 10. Bodies 11. Sub-Mission 12. Liar
given some of the punk albums that I have had earlier, I was not sure about this one. I really liked it though. Mostly great songs, that I enjoyed listening to. A few duds but not many, overall, I will listen to this again and might even purchase it
So I like a lot of punk. I listened to loads when I was a teenager and became a big Clash fan as a result. But The Sex Pistols? Never my thing. Listening to this for probably the first time in 20 years, it's more melodic than I remember. Holidays In The Sun is a great start. My issue remains however: Johnny Rotten. I don't like his voice and never have. And as time had passed, I now also think he's a complete arsehole. So you know, while I try and separate art from artist, his contribution to this, is a bit shit anyway, so it doesn't help. Despite him however, this is still a really good album, and if certainly not the best, likely the most influential punk album ever. This has come as a real surprise to me, as I was slightly dreading this turning up, but: 4/5
An unruly blast all the way through. Anarchy in the UK is my fav, I remember first hearing it through an flash video where a distorted Tony Blair sang it lmao
Day 269 Very strong album from the butter flogging disappointment and pals. Highlights Submission Pretty Vacant EMI
Good album. I totally appreciate its importance in punk history. God Save The Queen was my fav song and first listen. Anarchy In The UK and Liar were my other highlights
Solid. Fuck Tatcher,
Yeah, always thought this would be overrated - it's not, and I quite liked it. Punk not just my thing, but this was very entertaining.
Sounds a bit dated and cliche now, but much respect to the first "punk" band to break through. 3 1/2 stars
Great punk album, it’s a nice intro to punk and honestly I liked it quite a lot. I loved how unpolished and messy it was
Great rock and roll album - tbh it feels a bit quaint compared to the stuff it went on to influence - but the songs are there and the production is huge.
Great inclusion on the list, very influential
3.75
A reluctant four. I know they were assembled as a simultaneous art project and sales pitch by Malcolm McLaren (sp?), and some of the sneering and exaggerated working class posing is far over the top. But this is one of the most influential albums of all time, a time before all that stuff would have been immediately outed as inauthentic in the modern online hall of mirrors. Not many knew or cared then, they just reacted to the energy, the attitude, and the surprisingly catchy songs. They're still not in the same league as The Clash, and Jonny Rotten turned out to be an even bigger tw*t than anyone thought possible, but so much came in the wake of this record that I can't give it less than a four. Still reluctant...
Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols by Sex Pistols is full of anger, energy, and attitude, even if it sometimes feels like that comes at the expense of musical finesse. Listening to it now, it’s not always an easy album to enjoy, but it’s impossible to ignore how important it was. This is a culturally defining record that helped shape punk in the UK. Musically, it’s raw and direct, driven by simple, loud guitar work, while Johnny Rotten’s vocal style sits somewhere between singing and shouting, delivered with that trademark sneer. It’s iconic. There are some undeniable classics here. Holidays in the Sun, Anarchy in the U.K., and God Save the Queen are standout tracks and capture everything punk is about. It’s a difficult one to score. On musical terms alone, it wouldn’t rank that highly for me, but its cultural significance is huge and impossible to overlook. It does make you wonder what a second Pistols album might have sounded like. Favourite tracks: Anarchy in the U.K. and God Save the Queen, pure punk at its best Least favourite tracks: Liar, New York and Problems don’t quite hit the same level Album artwork: Iconic cover, one of the most recognisable in the UK, simple but incredibly effective
The vocals are a little annoying but other than that its a good album
An absolutely classic punk album. You can here the discontent from the 1970s and the angst from the 1980s all mixed up with the feeling of hopelessness and powerlessness that seems to be part of every teenagers growing up. Big hits from this album are "God save the Queen", "Anarchy in the UK" and "Pretty Vacant". Which I only found out recently was a disguised way of saying can't on the radio. Very clever you naughty punk anarchists. (4.250)
Pleasantly surprised by how listenable this is, kinda bangs. Will revisit
Hadn't listened in a long time and was not disappointed. While this album mightn't sound as incendiary as when it came out first nearly 50 years ago, it rattles along at breakneck speed with the original punk attitude and some great songs. Those 4 singles Anarchy in the UK, Holidays in the Sun, God Save the Queen and Pretty Vacant are all bangers. 4 stars.
I could have been a punk band member. Make some noise and say some shit about authority. Either way they were one of the best early ones
This shit made me feel like im in the opening scenes of a movie
Pretty good!
The Sex Pistols are easily one of the most divisive bands of all time. People love them while others absolutely despise them. Now, you could argue that they were a manufactured, one-trick pony boy band, and you wouldn’t exactly be wrong.. but Never Mind the Bollocks’ influence is undeniable, and it’s stood the test of time as a cornerstone of punk. I could go on about what a POS John Lydon, or ‘Johnny Rotten’, is now. But I’ll let you do your own research on his more recent political escapades if you’re unaware. Normally, I would deride an album for being repetitive without any variety (hello, Moby). But I think it actually works here. It’s repetitive, but not monotonous. The songs on this album are consistently high energy, raw, scathing, and shocking (for the time), masterfully capturing a very specific window in music history. Whether you love it or hate it, this is an album that will stick with you long after the final note rings. It loses some points for me, though, for a couple reasons. While it does work in this instance, the repetitiveness gives it less replay value. If you hear one song, you’ve kinda heard them all. Along with that, some of the lyrics have aged like milk (i.e. “Bodies” coming across as anti-abortion and dropping an f-slur on “New York”). Favorite songs: Holidays in the Sun, Bodies (despite the lyrics. The song itself fucking rips), Liar, God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK, Submission
Punk!! Actual punk!! I don’t talk about this much on the account where I REVIEW music, but I’m a punk artist! Sort of. I’m like mostly folk but I’m in the punk scene in my city so it’s hard not to err on the side of folk punk. Whatever I don’t like talking about it on my review account but yeah. Anyway this album's really interesting, especially in the context of how hateable every member of this band is, as far as I can recall. I haven't looked into it so don't quote me on that but you know what I mean. Johnny Rotten is a trumper. That I know for sure. He also sucks at singing, though you can hear the beginnings of a Jello Biafra there, and he actually does get something going on songs like "Holidays in the Sun," or "Liar," or a couple of the other big songs on here. The music is good, and it reaches true greatness at its uncontested height of "Anarchy in the UK." The biggest problem is... it just gets super repetitive very quickly, and you can really tell that everyone in the band's really only kinda into it. Like, Johnny's vocals are kind of annoying after a while, and outside of the explicitly political numbers there's not a lot of interest there for me. It's good. But I won't go back to much, and I certainly won't go back for the experience of the album as a whole. 7.7/10
Great album - much better than I’d realised
Raw energy, good listen but probably wouldn’t revisit much despite its big cultural influence.
I didn't remember feeling his voice was high pitched at the time this was released. But while I like what they did I did not like his voice. It was s fun listen though. Who are the Sex Pistols of today? There's plenty of anger circulating.
I don’t think I’ve ever given this record a spin in its entirety before. I get how it made it on the list, but I doubt this is going into heavy rotation for me in the future.
Eita bicho...
British and *good*!
Exactly what I think of when picking a definitive Punk vibe. Sometimes I’m put off by the anti-establishment vibes of the 70’s and 80’s because plenty of artists have sold out since then, but this album still rang true for me.
Disruptivo, potente y contestatario, acorde al contexto socio económico y político de los 70s UK
It’s not my fav punk rock but essential
Yeah it is an edgelord record but it was necessary at the time. England and the world needed this. However. Johnny Rotten can be so fucking annoying sometimes.. his singing can come off like he thinks he's so much smarter than everyone else and I can see how that would be a turn off. Anyway, not perfect or the best or anything but an essential piece of the puzzle.
The only Sex Pistols album we got but it's definitely a good listen
This album has become a landmark in the punk rock scene. Its reputation precedes it, but it still holds up incredibly well. It’s influential to the point of inspiring countless bands trying to capture its energy, attitude, and rebellion. Each song carries that careless, anti-conformist vibe, making the whole album feel consistent and bold. The riffs are simple and catchy, but there’s also depth beneath the surface, with some surprisingly melodic moments. My favorite tracks were "God Save the Queen" and "Pretty Vacant".
industry plants
people talk about it like it is pure chaos, but the truth is almost the opposite. This is not some sloppy accident of rage. It is a highly controlled, brutally efficient demolition job. What makes the album so powerful is that it takes punk’s basic promise — speed, contempt, confrontation, anti-pretension — and delivers it in a form that is far more musically solid than the myth suggests. The guitars are huge, dense, and sharp. The rhythm section hits like machinery. Rotten’s voice is sneering, theatrical, sarcastic, and weirdly precise. This is not elegant music, but it is not dumb music either.
Enjoyed it!
I loved this album back when I was 16 and fully expected to listen and cringe but it stands up. Drummer is the best of them but the guitar is pretty tight and carries a lot of the sound. And Johnny Rotten’s vocals and lyrics fit perfectly. Lot of dated lyrics but as it should be.
Don’t listen to the people who say this isn’t good, this is fucking awesome
Made me put my hat on backwards and snarl, 3.5/5
I remember the first time I heard “Anarchy in the UK”. It instantly hooked me and changed the course of my life. Funny how it sounds so tame by today’s standards. Still a classic.
really good, however not really something i would listen on the daily basis.
Raunchy and fun I love it
Snarling in your face punk
tipico album popular entre millenials que por dicho motivo no le das pelota pero en realidad they had a point 8/10
I enjoyed this a high 3 (bumped to a low 4 for importance)
The singles made a huge impact and spearheaded the punk movement. It made a lot of music sound tired and dreary.
You know what, Sex Pistols warrant a rare punk 4 for me, a low one but one nonetheless. The guitar playing throughout is great, the vocals are genuinely unignorable and the band is pretty competent by this point - capture the UK punk spirit better than most that i’ve been exposed to
Good drums on some. Anarchy! Sex pistols! Four!
Great album. Sid Viscous' voice is forever synonymous with punk. Added 3 of the tracks to my punk playlist. I haven't listened to the whole album in about 20 years but it still holds up.
roocky, fun
it’s getting 4 stars! it was a blast of energy and pretty fun to listen to, and the songs were short enough to not overstay their welcome
Har tålt tidens tann meget bra, spør du meg. Fengende.
A classic one
Barnstorming music of my youth, still sounds vibrant though ultimately a single trick but what a trick
HIGHLIGHTS: Holidays in the Sun, BODIES, God Save the Queen, Seventeen, Anarchy in the UK 8/10
Was in a bad mood before listening and this helped get the ✨angst✨ out. Likes: Holidays in the Sun, God Save the Queen, Submission
Now I want to smash something!
ellos, una puta mierda, pero sólo por eliminar el blues del rock y por darnos a Joy Division merecen todo. Además, el disco está de puta madre
Even it's not an album with high musical quality, has a reliable influence in music history.
Some fun old punk, with some classic songs on there. Probably not my go-to for classic punk but it's still a good listen.
Great stuff - even if they were a lot of hype they did wrote some good songs, and the recording/performing quality sounds better than I remember
Yes, take me back to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2! I love this band's sound and their anarchist messages. They lose a star for the f-slur song though. 7/10
Of course this is a great album. It is impossible to listen to it with the ears of 1976 but I can definitely imagine that it was world changing.
Not bad!
A classic though ive never been a huge fan. No denying its impact though. God Save THe Queen, Anarchy In The Uk and Pretty Vacant are all classics.
Sex Pistols is one of those bands that was hugely influential but I don’t really find myself coming back to often. It’s been a looong time since I heard some of these tracks. Apparently they had a recent reunion.
8.5/10
Still a great album
Kanaan said he would buy this. So would I:) 4/5
I don’t care for the characters in this band, but the influence is pretty undeniable, and most of the tunes hold up well almost 50 years later. Stooges are a better band though, so I can’t give this 5 stars.
I've heard a lot of hype over this record. It's actually led me to hype it up to my friends, mostly in an attempt to bolster 1977's status as the indisputable best year for music. A punk cornerstone, a cultural symbol... But is it actually good? Let's get it out of the way: the singing is goofy as heck. And distractingly so. It's sort of in tune, but John "Rotten" Lydon still falls carelessly out of tune every couple of bars. The timbre is a bit brash and "yelly", though the late 70s were the perfect time for the voice of the young layman to take the world by storm. You can't write off the importance music like this. Especially when it's catchy and played extremely well (vocals aside). It's fair if you judge the guitar power chords as monotonous – I did in some tracks – but with the sound's upfront, blatant rawness, those power chords fit right in. The opening track, Holidays In The Sun, is about the isolation brought about by the Cold War, and a desperate societal need to bring everyone closer together. An anti-war sentiment, essentially. I can get behind that. It's Bodies where the lyrical quality takes a dip. And yeah, sure, the punk movement was all about cultural freedom and sticking it to the elites. But there's a fine line between tasteful simplicity and blatant disrespect for musical convention whose institution has a very good purpose: it sounds good. God Save The Queen is an obvious highlight, with its aggressive riff that pays homage to Bowie's Hang On To Yourself and spits in the face of monarchy. It's excellent. (Shame the regime still hasn't been abolished almost 50 years later. Looks like nobody minded either the bollocks or the Sex Pistols.) Anarchy In The UK is also excellent, though it's barely a step up from the rest of the album in terms of complexity. The vocal hook in the verses, though catchy enough, is just two notes. As a final note, the fact that some places banned this album – not for being a little musically weak, but for being anti-establishment and containing the word "bollocks" – is insane. For all its faults, at least 21-century Western society lets you fucking curse. The huge significance of the Sex Pistols – at least in Western society – cannot be understated. Although, as another reviewer wrote, "its context makes it greater than the music objectively is." 4/5 Key tracks: Holidays In The Sun, God Save The Queen, Anarchy In The UK
SOBRETUDO sempre danço qdo escuto holiday in the sun minha nota é NOSTÁLGICA e A FAVOR DA ALEGRIA!!!!11!!!1
I don't know if I've ever heard this album before, but I can instantly see how it influenced rock for many years to come. I like. I learned that the fact that I have had 0 albums past 2000 is a 1 in 160,000 odds.
This was a ground breaking album at it's release. It had a lot of energy.
Certainly a classic. It can be a bit overwhelming to listen straight through. Bodies is one of the most reactionary songs I've heard that's actually good. The classics are untouchable but I also love holidays in the sun.
Classic that i've never listened to. EMI is the best track for me!
Very refreshing after being subjected to the Eagles
Esta buenooo, muy digerible para lo que pude llegar a pensar, lo escucharia otra vez
I C O N I C
One of the defining moments for punk. I have to say I do like this a lot more than The Ramones initial album. Both are more culturally significant than the music would make you think. But overall great riffs and tons of energy. This was super in your face back in the day.
It’s hard to beat the Sex Pistols - essential punk rock. This band (and this album) is how I learned to distrust authority. Still, it’s not necessarily universal. It depends a lot on understanding time and place to grasp its relevance.
3.5 - Good
Comment on est passés de ça au post-punk avec des trompettes ? Qu'est-ce qui s'est passé ?
veldig punkete
bunch of good hits. The vocals are my favorite part. It was cool to hear bits where other artists took inspiration from their style/vocals. Pretty Vacant and God Save the Queen are my favorites. Im not completely blown away but I'd definitely listen to it again, or at least the hits
First listen (don’t judge me!) but this was a good listen
Muito bom, gostei bastante.
Never actually listened to this album. It is exactly what it says on the tin and mistakenly the sex pistols. Not really sure what else to say about it tbh but enjoyed it, although a touch repetitive and quite long for a punk record but may very well listen again.
Круто
While the Ramones will always be my favorite punk rock band, I think the Sex Pistols are much closer to the core identity of the genre. They embody its simple sound, its rebellious spirit, its revolutionary but incoherent politics (as indeed, it’s hard to parse what the Pistols actually believe in beyond hatred of the powers that be), and its spiky-haired torn-clothes safety-pinned image. Image was very important to the punks, maybe more than the way the music actually sounded. Of course, this album survives because the music does sound great: raw, nasty, immediate, and furious. The Pistols could have been an actual rock band on the level of the Clash had they survived, but that was probably impossible. They were more of a moment in time than a band, scrapped together by a scheming manager to capitalize on the ascendant punk movement. Their immortal status in rock history is a statement to their talent (save for Sid Vicious, who was just there to look the part), but also to sheer luck and circumstance. I find them really fascinating even if I wouldn’t call this one of my all-time favorite albums. Best song: Pretty Vacant
I loved this album, classic punk that makes you think maybe communism would work, far too long but enjoyable!

This is the only time I wish I knew less about a bands history so I could enjoy the music more. Starting off strong with some solid guitar led rock with Holidays in the Sun. Bodies brought the energy and made me want to run around in a mosh pit. No feelings had a great beat to it and Liar was a track that made me look up from what I was doing and have a closer listen. I had no Problems with Problems. Seventeen gave the vibes of a song titled seventeen and honestly reminded me of Green Day Longview. Anarchy in the UK gave trying to be edgy. Sub-mission was a good track. The effects were quite funny. To close, EMI wasn’t my favourite track on this album, but I thought it summed up a pretty solid album. 4/5 ⭐️! 43/1089
Yeah nah this is fucking awesome. 4/5
Vildt fedt!! Sjovt at man kan høre Lou Reed som inspirationskilde så tydeligt
Definitely enjoyed it. Everything was great except I wanted more bass.
They are the original punk band which i respect but unfortunately they are not the best punk band
Rules
Their debut and only album, and it goes on my list of great debuts. I had heard of them but never once had heard them. I’m so-so on punk, but this surprised me. I was really enjoying it and having fun listening by the end.
A lot of fun
Historic record in the punk world!!
I do own this album. I've heard it many many times. Growing up this sounded so raw and like nothing I'd ever heard. It still feels raw, but you begin to appreciate how good the music is. I think it's a product of its time in terms of the lyrics and the cultural impact. I know it's rated high on most top lists. For me It's a solid album but not the best. I think those lists are heavily weighing the impact the album had (not just by bands to follow... but fashion and attitude.)
A messy bitch of an album. Love it for what it is, don’t wish it was something else.
This album hits different considering the recent files that have come out that focus on the rich.
The quintessential punk record of the year. What's not to love??
Classic.
One of the pioneering and, incredibly, one of the best punk albums of all time. It's a classic, no doubt about it. The songs are great and versatile actually. Lydon's singing is horrible, which is part of the charm, but it is what's keeping it from being a 5/5 for me. 4/5
A classic. Rock music wouldn't be the same without it!
Love the power and energy of this!!
I Am An Anarchist 1001 Albums Generator 218 (2/2/2025) Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols is the only studio album released by the U.K. punk group, and it was a hugely influential album in the (previously underground) punk scene. Led by hits like Anarchy In The U.K. and God Save The Queen, Never Mind sees an interesting mixture of the unmistakably punk sound with some hard rock leanings. It definitely makes sense why this album got so popular. Johnny Rotten's whiny, nasally voice is perfect for this high-energy style of punk rock, and the angst on display is iconic. Also, the politics here are quite interesting. There's obvious references to anarchism, but you also have some very scathing descriptions of abortion in Bodies that definitely reads as pro-life. I love that the Pistols' politics aren't just basic slop. Anyway, it's a good punk album. 3.5/5, rounded up to a 4. Favs: Holidays In The Sun God Save The Queen Anarchy In The U.K. Least Fav: New York
Don't know what I want, but I know how to get it Your future dream is a shopping scheme I’m a fan! (I like the music, too)
I prefer faster, more aggressive punk. But this was undoubtedly fire
I was always a bit harsh on the sex pistols for being far dumber than the clash. That's still true, but this is still a pretty good album even if it ended up inspiring better music.
If you like Punk, this is perfect.
not as good as I'd hoped but still good obvi
The Sex Pistols just fucked my ears to orgasmic levels.
Normalmente no me gusta que me griten (y algunos temas definitivamente no me gustaron) por eso no creo que vaya a hacerme fan del punk, pero otros temas me gustaron. Es muy bueno para ir a correr o hacer pesas, y ademas iconico
Made me smile when the page refreshed. Well, that's a good start isn't it. It's almost impossible to unpick this from the cultural impact now isn't it. Which is a testament to the staying power in a way - the album cover art, the "punk as a movement" (which Lydon himself was pretty dismissive of), which are still relevant today. This still felt very edgy when I was a teen about 15 years too late - not sure you could say the same today, the popularity has tamed it in a way. But my God, the ANGER is still there. The sheer fury at the system and the desire for change leaps out of the speakers and beats you around the head. Musically, probably 3 stars, 5 stars for Jones' "What a fucking rotter!". 4 star average? I'm happy with that.
Highly influential...still smarts
Highlights: Holidays in the Sun, No Feelings, Anarchy in The UK, Pretty Vacant, EMI Lowlights: Problems, Liar A really fun listen. Even songs I had problems with (like Problems LOL) were listenable, they just dragged on a lot for me. A very infectious sound that digs in and doesn't want to let go.
Better than o remembered
More of a Clash guy myself but respect where it's due
So the powers can write pretty good tunes.
camp
Listened making breakfast
Really good album, not as abrasive as I would have expected, amazing that I’ve made it this long without listening to it.
Johnny Rotten, Rotten Johnny
I kind of wanna run through a wall right now!!
Great record, one of the pillars of punk.
Non-stop raw energy. Would give anything to go to a sex pistols concert in their prime. Top songs were Pretty Vacant and God Save the Queen.
really enjoyed not quite what i usually listen to!
Hörenswert
I've always struggled with the Pistols. Undeniably influential, but also a PR stunt. An inorganically formed boy band of “punks” but also an insanely original front man commenting on post Empire Britain in a way no one else dared backed by a pretty solid group of musicians for a punk band (no, not Sid). There are undeniable classics like Holidays in the Sun, God Save The Queen, and Pretty Vacant, but also a fair amount of filler. In the end, it’s undeniably a classic, everyone should hear it before they die, and it's a flawed gem
Timeless.
In middle school. A friend of mine played me the song "Anarchy in the U.S.A." by I think Megadeth. I went out to buy it and ended up with "Never Mind the Bollocks" instead. I secretly listened to it between classes on my Walkman. It absolutely blew my mind. It felt so subversive and so wrong, although I couldn't put my finger on why. I can't say it made me an enormous punk fan or anything, but boy did I love that album.
Sex Pistols have a nice, big, full sound here. The loud guitar riffs are definitely centerstage, but the rhythm section fills out the sound. The drums make a lot of noise, and the bass is fat and reverberates through the songs. And oh yeah, Johnny Rotten’s lead vocals definitely add a lot of volume to the mix. Overall, it's a great punk sound that’s fun to rock out to and designed to be blasted out speakers. This really stands the test of time too. Almost 50 years after its release, it’s still very loud and in-your-face.

Undeniably a classic album
I used to kind of hate this album, but I found a new appreciation for it with this listen.
I liked the sound of the music, but the vocals made it a little lower, still fun to listen to!
Very funny album with a cohese, uniform sound from start to finish. The singer has an interesting accent.
Loved it! I enjoyed the classics like God Save the Queen, Anarchy in the UK, and Pretty Vacant but deep cuts like Submission and EMI are amazing as well. Very fun listen, and by the end I found myself singing along.
Super funky, not what i usually listen to but i highly fw it. Makes me wanna get up at dance. Its giving retro turnstile - but if they were oasis lol.
i love punk rock and the sex pistols are sexy
Dismissed by myself as corny when a youth in the 90s, I never gave this album the attention it deserved. A thoroughly enjoyable, if one-trick album
Really damn good. And fun.
I listened to this album a few times last year before I was going to see the band live at a festival. Of course they didn’t have their full original band, but it was still a good performance. The album is a obviously a classic, and I think it still holds up pretty well. Even the least known songs are alright. Favourite songs: Pretty Vacant, Holiday In The Sun, Anarchy in The UK and God Save The Queen.
A bit repetitive but the hits still hit.
This is an album I've surprisingly never heard but I've seen the cover of about a million times. I had a few reservations, namely will this live up to its name despite being probably one of the top 10 most iconic/influential albums of all time especially considering I hold no nostalgia for it. Also, is Vicious as bad as everyone says? On the former, yes I actually quite enjoyed this album. Pretty concise, the energy is very enjoyable and pretty electric. Also a real point to look back on, it doesn't surprise me that this was seen as pretty revolutionary and influential and to be honest I hear bits of other bands in this record and that's a real statement to how influential it has been, I especially get strokes of Sonic Youth and The Clash, both of which I consider very good things. Rotten's voice is pretty unimpressive but is heavily carried by the energy of the music and his half talking which makes it seem almost snide really translates to the benefit of the album. In terms of what it actually means, I can also see why this caused a stir in 77' and while I've read this was almost manufactured and not particular authentic at that point you have to respect it for not only being very good at what it aimed to do but also for not overstaying its welcome. I did not realise this was a one and done group, I just thought they'd fall off drastically after but apparently not. Malcolm McLaren is probably the most unsung hero, if he even is unsung in this context. But even beyond his work as their manager, his ties with Vivienne meaning that not only did they change the musician direction of the nation and punk in general but they seamlessly also created the classic fashion for the movement? I mean that is genius level marketing. I'd say this album certainly holds up, definitely still has a couple headbanging tunes to this day and if reviewed through the right lens I don't think I could fault someone considering this among the most influential albums of all time not just within music but within the whole nation of England. Definitely worth noting how many things this album did to push the envelope or otherwise did that was new. I imagine most of the pearl clutching nation was shook by "Anarchy in the UK" and the four or so naughty words on here. Oh how times have changed. Best songs: God Save the Queen, Holidays in the Sun Worst songs: N/A Rank compared to everything else so far: 15/39 (below LA Woman, above The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady)
True pioneers in the field of talentless and unintelligible britness
Influential and enjoyable. A precursor to a lot of the music I listened to growing up.
Will have to return and listen more. Listened on the flight to Chicago
Of course I appreciate the album and it's quite a lot of fun but it didn't hit for a 5* way this time for me! But seeing it live last year was stellar - it makes so much more sense as a live album
I did listen. I will not rate because I understand the importance of the album even if it isn't exactly my bag. Also, Damon Albarn owes them royalties.
I had tremendous fun listening.
A seminal 80s punk rock album, but a lot of their songs sound the same to me
Hell yeah. Can't believe that guy is like a right wing weirdo now. Probably a 3.5 but whatever
Anarrr-CHYSTUH!! Johnny Rotten’s swagger is crazy. Not bad for a future right-wing idiot. The guitars sound huge even now—it’s searing rock ‘n’ roll with punk aesthetics. There are some skips but I can tell why these guys helped launch a bajillion (often better) bands.
It’s pretty evident by all the music that came after it how influential the Sex Pistols were. Also, they were fashionistas! Anyway, this album was great. I heard a lot of Green Day in it.
Great punk rock
Great. And they CAN play their instruments.
Is ok
Would buy
Banger after banger tbh
Wanted to hate it, but I didn't. Some good raw punk rock.
It's overall quite good. I enjoy some songs more than others but it's high energy and never lets up, very straight-ahead. I don't choose to listen to it all the time but it's always fun when I do it is enjoyable.
This is the first early-punk album on this list that I actually enjoyed quite a bit. It has a bit of the “same-ness” that the other UK punk albums have but not as much and that’s the magic sauce.
so fun
I've never actually listened to the full album before, but I liked it more than expected.
I expected to go into this and find the album grating, but overall valuable and influential to Punk and music as a whole. Surprisingly, I actually really enjoyed it. It was mixed shockingly well, so none of the parts overpowered each other. And despite the fact that Johnny Rotten has become kind of a sucky and polarizing character in recent years, everything about his schtick works for this type of music. I would probably give this one another spin just because I can.
Excellent production elevates this to a genre breaking almost classic. Technically a one man band with the guitarist providing all the actual talent although the drummer keeps up well enough. Rotten and Vicious were the nasty sneering pitbulls and public image of the group during its all but brief time in the limelight. The album has 5 great tracks which still sound great today.
It's honestly very good despite everything - the band were thugs who looked the part and formed to sell clothes. But it is electric, super heavy and kinda unlike some of the other leaner punk rock from that time. The fact that so many punk and post-punk bands formed after going to their gigs makes this something special.
Yeah this was banging. Very British, in the best way possible. Songs added to playlist: - Holidays In The Sun - God Save The Queen - Pretty Vacant
TBA
Good.
Confession time: I always thought Sid Vicious was the lead singer of the Sex Pistols. Not sure why, maybe because he's the one everybody talks about? Of course the name Johnny Rotten clicks for me as well, so maybe on some level I did know. Also this band was a band for way less band than I thought they banded for. You know what I mean. I was worried this would be a slog, after playing so much Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 that "Anarchy in the UK" is burned permanently into the back of my brain, but was happy to discover that it wasn't a struggle at all. I really enjoyed it - even "Anarchy" for what it's worth. I'm always wary of idolizing messed up people, especially ones like Sid Vicious... But now that I know he was just the bassist, it's a lot easier to avoid. No shade to bassists, you guys are the best. It's more that he's not the singer. I can separate the music from the artist well enough, and man this was great.
I usually reserve 4 star rankings for albums I personally love, but may not be deserted island classics, for example. Here we have the Sex Pistols with inarguably one of the most influential albums of all time. However....I just can't say that I love it. I'd much prefer The Clash, or The Damned, or The Ramones, or Wire. So on the album itself - this to me is a 3. But recognizing the significance of it, and frankly on the strength of God Save the Queen and Pretty Vacant (I've never loved Anarchy in the U.K.), I'll give it a 4. It's a low 4, but they gained a 4.
I generally like The Sex Pistols, though they seem a little silly with the passage of time. Especially considering how manufactured they are. This is still full of very catchy songs.
More like a 4.5. A very simple album in a sense, minimalism done right. I like songs that are short but only great songs (like these) can do it. Almost a no-skip album.
Rockin bruv
Charming and full of energy. Gets to the point really, as every punk record should. Up a point for its influence on the movement and music in general.
Awesome
I thought this one was a lot of fun, especially to listen to in context of a full album. I didn't like the Sex Pistols as much when listening to them as singles.
I love the existence of a band that can’t really play instruments. Truly nothing more punk. I was listening to a podcast about Sid and Nancy the other day and it feels like the universe rewarded me with putting this on two days later. It’s great,
Absolutely earns its legendary status, even if the genre would later outgrow it. Favourite Songs: Holidays In the Sun, God Save the Queen, Anarchy In the U.K. Least Favourite Songs: Liar, Seventeen.
The two main hits are pretty great, but it gets a bit samey throughout. But hey, it's fuckin punk rock, and it's the sail that launched a thousand ships. So I'll round my 3.5 up to 4
Honestly once again casting type advantage. I love this album, it’s really good and just in a style I like. It’s iconic as well and I fully get why. Yell heah for anarchy and stuff
The Sex Pistols are not my favorite punk band, but man, are they PUNK. Bringing us iconic and notorious characters like Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious, and filled with a sense of disaffection and destruction, there’s no denying the cultural behemoth they were. These album is all of these things—it’s loud, it’s angry, it hates everything and thinks you should hate everything too. And yet, that’s precisely what keeps me from loving it. Where The Clash has real beliefs, The Sex Pistols mostly seem to be contrarians. It’s anger for the sake of anger, counterculture for the sake of counterculture. I think Johnny Rotten’s later support for Brexit and Trump is a good indication of this. It’s a good album, and one of the most important albums. It certainly deserves to be on this list, though it never approaches the greatness of London Calling or Singles Going Steady.
I have never really given this a album a full listen. It never really appealed to me and I had heard the majority of the songs disparately. I was expecting it to be a bit messy and simple, but I was quite surprised at how polished and well produced it was. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and it absolutely stands out as an iconic album. Plenty notable tracks. Would absolutely listen again. I might even consider owning it. 4.5 stars
73/100. Their one and only album, and a defining statement in punk history. While I’m not usually the biggest fan of punk, this record has undeniably held up over time. Its raw energy, rebellious spirit, and aggressive attitude explain exactly why the band exploded in popularity so quickly. It’s messy, loud, and chaotic, but that’s the point.
Great
I don't care if it's cliche, I love it anyway
Finally listening to this. For what they stand for, I think its brilliant and totally needed to happen at this time to 'popular' music, due to the amount of dross that was probably around that wasn't interesting to these types of people. I feel like you can't exactly criticise the playing ability or songwriting, as its obviously not classically trained perfect stuff, but that's kind of the point. And for the lack of 'ability', these songs come out great. John Lydon is an excellent frontman, and I feel like he influenced a large majority of successful punk singers in years since. I feel like its one of those 'moment in time' type albums, like Nirvana Nevermind, or Are you experienced? Jimi Hendrix, where it totally became the biggest thing of the time. These songs are also quite catchy, which I think is good. Not really too much else to say, certainly of a time, but very decent. Favourite songs: all. Overall around 7/10
It’s kind of funny thinking how controversial this album was at the time considering that it now comes off as very typical, milquetoast punk. It’s nothing I haven’t heard before and the production is not good, but fuck it, I’m biased. It’s so energetic, with simple but satisfying riffs. I just enjoy this kind of music. It’s not high art or whatever, but it’s entertaining as fuck.
Better than it should be.
BOOYAH Edit Mar 27 2026: 5 --> 4. I haven't played this album *as* much. Maybe if I play it more in the future I will bump it up more
it‘s a vibe. Can barely understand them but it’s iconic.
It's good Prefer it as background noise to active listening though
Not my thing, but very aggressive and insistent. Good guitar tone. Well produced. The vocals, although not to my taste, we're confident, and emotionally consonant with the flow of the song.
Unfiltered punk. Raw, chaotic and swaggering. Not my favourite genre musically but there are some moments that appeal to me. The sneering vocals are a highlight and I can imagine the live shows must have been incredible.
Great British Punk album. God Save the Queen and Anarchy in the UK are classic tracks. Holidays in the Sun and Pretty Vacant are both great tracks I hadn’t heard before.
Anarchy in the UK pushed this from a 3 to a 4.
I think this should a 3.5 rounded down for me personally, but I’m going to push it up to a 4 out of respect. The rawness that puts me off paved the way for all the watered down imitations that I’ve enjoyed over the years, so credit where it’s due.
Wanted to give this a 5, and I thought I would, but Rotten's voice grates on me more than I remember.
Puerile
Oh man, the irony of getting this the day after Yeah Yeah Yeahs really details the difference between dyed-in-the-wool punks and millennial poseurs. This album is fking legit innit.
Lo he escuchado, no lo apunte ningún día y estoy confundida porque el fin de semana hice la lista de todo lo que había escuchado. En fin. Lo que estoy escuchando me está gustando. Me gustan los 70, al parecer.
The energy and adolescent punk attitude still ooze out of every track here. One of my favorites in my youth it still holds up. Great introduction to punk record. 8/10 Favorite tracks- “No Feelings” “Sub-mission” “Pretty Vacant”
Can't deny it's pretty cool and influential but it doesn't always make for a faultless listen.
I had a good time listening to this, but kinda got bored by the third time I heard “DUNNuhNuh DUNnuhNuh” at the beginning of a song. I guess it is just rock and roll with like 4 parts and sped up a little bit, but not much. Aggro.
Interesting listening to this for the first time and understanding the context of where it stood in music history. I appreciate it, but it’s not my thing.
It's still an almighty racket that blows the cobwebs away. It doesn't quite live up to its cultural significance, but how could it?
great straight ahead punk rock!
More listenable now than in the 70s.
Great album, wish Rotton wasn't fake
Another album that coming to this project I had no great love, choosing instead the more varied multicultural sound of the Clash. Forced to listen properly here my preconceptions of musical primativism is found to have been unfounded. What has surprised me lately when listening to PiL before the ForeverNow festival in 2025 is how intelligent and creative Johnny Lyndon is, but the overall sound is also far more cohesive, sophisticated and powerful than I suspected. The simple truth is that every song is very listenable and attention grabbing, even if they're not the headline songs of Anarchy or God Save.
Pure punk. Anarchic lyrics and fun grooves throughout. Cool album, even if it's not completely my jam.
Very crude production and music, but too seminal for me
I love this album not the first time I heard it used to listen to it all the time
All of the elements of punk that we enjoy. The guitar work here is excellent, it rips through the songs and hits stable melodic undercurrents that carry the passionate vocals along. This is raw yet somewhat polished. A great blend of fundamental punk and artistry. Gone as quickly as they came, which adds to the mystique.
4.5 One of the most influential punk albums of all time. Really do wonder what would have happened if they continued to record. Conflicted about giving it a 5.0. If every song was like Anarchy in the U. K. I think it would be a 6. As is a few songs are too repetitive.
Punk is as important now as potentially ever. I can see why this is so influential
I expected the furious unleashing of raw energy and attitude, since this album helped launch punk. I didn’t expect the consistency of quality and how musically adept these guys would be - not only do they rip things to shreds, but they know how to be catchy while doing it.
