Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Well produced, echo-y wallpaper music that would be best suited as the soundtrack for a PG-13 kids adventure film that's worse than Beetlejuice but better than Little Monsters.

Boring...

Klingt schon ganz cool aber hat mich nicht gecatched

This got to be pretty boring for me.

There were a couple of songs that weren’t bad but I didn’t really care for the vocal style here.

I just didn't connect one bit to this, didn't enjoy his vocals didn't like the what to me felt like a glacial flow. Though it was quite hypnotic by the end. And that's fine, quite clearly it's its own thing and not a bad record just something that I don't connect too, so I have heard now, Just not for me 2 Star

My immediate thought upon seeing the album cover is that the colours are very autumnal, but we'll let that pass. The music is the important thing here. So, I know the big hits and never felt the need to switch channels when they came on the radio, but didn't like them enough to rush out and buy the long-player. I was right not to do so as there's nothing else here that engages me. It's fine, but I'll never listen to it again. Honestly, I could just copy/paste that last sentence on to so many reviews on here...

It felt like watching paint dry. I guess it's a good way to cure insomnia. "Such a shame" is probably the only Talk Talk song I find palatable, I used to love it when it was playing everywhere in the 80s, but it's not even on this album. All I found here were interminable dull songs with no hooks and barely any rythm. I didn't completely hate it - I'll admit I enjoyed a few elements here and there, like the warm jazzy sax, some of the keyboard lines, or the chorus in Time It's Time. The singer also has a peculiar moody voice that makes the record slightly more interesting than the average 80s nonsense. But apart from that, it bored me so much I had to split it into parts to finish it. There's no way I'll ever listen to this again. 3/10

From what I’ve read, this was supposed to be a switch toward a more organic sound. Still, it remains very 80s to me, with that cold drum sound and those very era-specific guitars. The two hits I know from the band aren’t here, and the album feels long and pretty monotonous, though not uninteresting. That period produced far worse records. One listen will be enough for me, though.

Truely no hate but I’m just not THAT interested I’m sorry Talk Talk and I didn’t save any songs rip

This just wasn’t very exciting. It all sort of blended together and sounded the same. I think Talk Talk has better works that could have made the list. 2.5

Tough listen. Bunch of noise

I had to bail on this one, it was just nails on the chalkboard

I like his voice and I some of the tunes are ok. Not my cup of tea. Not terrible though

On taas kyllä ihan niin kasaria kun vaan voi kasari olla. En kyllä ihan varauksetta innostunut tästä, vaikka yksittäisiä ihan ok-veisuja tuolta tulikin läpi.

Pretty boring. Not much to say about this one. 80s pop is very hit or miss Highlights: Happiness is Easy

Kind of bad British indie.. like its fine, but its also not.. its like George Michael, but then not George Michael. IDK, this list is obsessed with these kind of bands.

Inte särskilt spännande lyssning.

not like other albums so far (complimentary). But it's a little slow and melancholy for repeat listening for me.

There are parts of this album that really shine, particularly those crescendos of layered instrumentation over Mark Hollis's ethereal vocals. His voice lends an almost gospel-like quality these tracks and it's just incredible to listen to. However, that's the most I can say I like it about it: "parts". Most of the songs overstay their welcome for me by a full minute or two. I don't think I could return to it in full, but I'd be interested to check out more of Talk Talk.

I can’t tell why anyone would make this album. It’s not very ambitious. This is a 2 for me.

I love 80’s jams but this one is dull. Even the upbeat songs have a melancholy vibe.

There's a few tracks that stand out and have some oomph to them, with some good instrumentation. But my god, some tracks are so fucking boring. I genuinely nearly nodded off during 'April 5th'. Lots of this is so slow and nondescript, and it genuinely feels like something is a bit off with it.

Being honest with myself, even good New Wave music won't get any higher than a 3 from me.

This seemed like they really wanted to sound like Tears for Fears

This album is… boring. It’s not offensive, it’s not awful, it’s just boring. It seems very repetitive, and the songs all sound the same to me.

The issue with using phrases like 'most commercially successful album' about efforts from the pre-streaming era is you have no real idea if the success is based on the albums quality itself or momentum from earlier efforts. I preferred Talk Talk's earlier synth-led work.

This is one of those albums that I feel you need to spend some time with to enjoy. As it is, I thought it was boring

Dritstygg stemme. Ok musikk

3/10. Fav Track - Living in Another World Sadly another style that just isn't my favorite, regardless of the clear talent displayed. They did fuck the absolute shit outta that harmonica though.

It's a 2*. I totally tuned out while it was playing and nearly dozed off. Nothing offensive here, and maybe these guys were a big deal in the UK or something, but there is nothing special here. Nothing that anyone absolutely must hear before they die.

I gotta be completely honest... I listened to this album three weeks ago and I keep meaning to come back and write some words on it, but I can't remember a single thing about it and can't be bothered to refresh my memory by putting it on again. That's probably the best review I can give of The Colour of Spring. Highlights: Happiness Is Easy, I Don't Believe in You, Living in Another World, Time It's Time

la voz no combina

Boring, j'ai pas trop kiffé

This collection is more nostalgia for me than enjoyment - it just blends into noise after a while.

2/5. Not bad at all, but not my vibe. I did enjoy the naming scheme though.

An alright album. Nothing to jam out to later.

I was not previously familiar with the artist or album. This is a sort of 80s pop/rock leaning toward progressive. I really don't care for it much. The vocals are off-putting and the instrumentation is not interesting enough. I won't listen again.

mehhhhh

I really don't enjoy this New Wave genre. Not a fan of his voice.

It's not bad. I just wasn't awestruck

Ar trebui să n-a obișnuiesc cu așa albume

Talk Talk is an English band that gained fame during the early years of MTV, when only British acts were really making promo videos for their music. Talk Talk was kind of like all those new wave synth bands that came out at that time. Like most of the new wave acts, they were different from what was really popular at that time in the U.S. My brother and I have always thought that the United Kingdom was always ahead of the U.S. when it came to music and even good taste in music. But, no matter how popular you might have been in the U.K., to really make it big, you had to break the U.S. While Talk Talk did achieve some success in the U.S., they really were big in the U.K. and Europe. Like a lot of the new wave bands at the time, Talk Talk got tired of cranking out the synth hits and wanted to expand on their sound or do something totally different. With their third album, The Colour of Spring, the band leaned more into jazz and art pop, at least that’s what our friends at Wikipedia call it. The words art pop make me want to vomit, but no matter, The Colour of Spring was less synths and more real instruments, and to me, that’s always going to be better. The album became a big seller in Europe, and the critics loved it, but in the U.S., if you make any drastic changes, the American audience will drop you like a sack of dirt to move on to whatever sounds like you used to sound. So, The Colour of Spring didn't really make a dent in the U.S. As for the album, it’s good. I can’t say much else, really. It’s something I could see listening to again, but it’s unlikely. I think they did a good job of writing new wave/synth songs that sound new wave, but with real instruments. I assume the singles were the songs more like their catalog from the first two albums. They released four singles from the album, with three being in the U.S. I don’t really have much here. If you’re a fan of 80’s new wave, I think you’d enjoy this. I’m not exactly sure why this is an album to hear before you die. Sorry for a boring review. I'd almost rather I hated it so I could spit some bile out here, but it's just a solid rock album. Listen to it if you want to sit in whatever you're feeling at the time because it won’t really take you anywhere else.

This had me on the fence for the entire run. Unfortunately I couldn’t get on entirely, very bland at time.

Kinda slow, kinda boring, kinda just felt generic 80s crap...

Ok in places

This is not the colour of spring. Spring is about new life, reawakening after the cold, dark winter months, warmth returning, feeling like summer is just around the corner. This is more like the colour of autumn. Grey, dark, miserable, dreary. Constant rain turning the earth into sludgy mud. More like the colour of a turd.

Fairly run of the mill pop music that is instantly forgettable - best left in the 80s

This is like the adult contemporary version of Duran Duran. Strip away the eyeliner and the edgy chorus, and replace it with tasteful chord progressions, and this is what you get. Kinda meh. Nothing really grabbing, it's just there. My rating: 2/5 butterflies

mid as hell

starts with a children's choir and goes downhill from there. pretentious horseshit.

Painfully 80s. I am very much not into this Tears For Fears, Duran Duran synth and croonfest. Hard pass, but a 2 because it was simply boring and not actively off-putting.

This was another one of those albums that felt like it had potential until the vocals came in. I liked a good majority of the rhythms and beats but the overall sound just isn’t there for me.

It's well engineered, recorded, and mixed (especially for 1986). Kudos to them for realizing how awful FM synths sounded and turning back to analogue instruments. But the lushness in the tracks really expose the weakness of that voice as an instrument. Most importantly though, the music here is SO BOR ING. Maybe it works for people who listen passively; those who just want something in the background that sounds nice and soothing, building and receding; people who want the listening experience to be like watching clouds floating by in the sky.

The first track was a little jarring with what sounded like children singing. Then I got into it, until I got out of it. A mixed bag all around.

Surprisingly - - totally nondescript album. Just finished listening and cannot remember a single tune

I just found this quite boring, and I don't like the singer's voice

Another band that I vaguely remember from the 80s except for the one track that was featured on the GTA Vice City soundtrack. I was initially taken with the laid back, jazzy feel but for reason they decided to stick a primary school choir over the opening track which kind of spoils the mood a little. Guest appearances from Steve Winwood and Robbie McIntosh pull things back a little, nudging this into the ‘cds to play at 80s dinner parties’ category. Not great, not terrible.

Moody and with its own sense of style. But there are few hooks, and lyrics w limited pull.

Ah ouais super ça manquait de new-wave.

Almost completely passed me by except when I'd be struck by how little had happened on various songs. At times felt like a bit of a link between between 80s and early 90s pop but not in a good way. At others, overtly, annoyingly ambient. Really didn't like this but it's not completely unlistenable I suppose.

Life's What You Make It is the most upbeat song on the album. Whilst a great song, it does put the rest of this dreary, uninspired nonsense into perspective. The blandest, dullest of 80s new wave. I'm quite disappointed.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to say about this album. I liked what I heard, but couldn't tell you that any of the songs stood out to me. It had a good 80s synth rock kind of sound. So maybe underwhelming or not very stand-out to me.

I don't really get it. Seems like just another 80's New Wave record to me.

Musically I quite enjoyed this. It was the vocals that ruined it. I just don't like his voice.

I was thirteen when this came out. I wonder what social scene this genre of 80s music played to, at least in America. This sound was typical of the era, and Talk Talk were a decent band, but I just don’t see where people would flock to it. Now? Sure. It’s a version of yacht rock. I know their hits, so it made it to pop radio, but I’m just not sure I see the audience for this easier version of synth easy listening. Are twenty year olds going to Talk Talk concerts, and at what point do they bail because they’re sufficiently chill? I dig it now, but I can see why these bands get mislabeled as one-hit-wonders or just lost to music history.

It was OK. 2

meh dramatic 80s crooning

liked some songs but singer wasn’t rlly my vibe

This album could cure insomnia

That was an album. It had some songs on it. Some were ok.

I liked this album fine. It was different than what I was expecting from Talk Talk. I was expecting more of an upbeat new wave album but this was more of a mellow and moody new wave album that left me underwhelmed. Maybe I’ll give this another listen someday and my opinion will be different but this just fell flat for me.

2/5 - Living in Another World was fairly interesting, apart from that I found it pretty boring

I expected more because I loved their other albums (It's My Life is the best!!) But was really underwhelmed by this unfortunately

I just can't get over the vocals.

Hmmm buvo okay, pasirodo jie parašė it's my life. Pagrindiniam daininikui pasirodo labai nepatinka sintezatoriai, bet jų žinomiausia daina labai jais paistelkus. Juokinga, kad no doubt padarė perdarė tą dainą geriau ir be sintezatorių.

I don’t know, kinda Peter Gabriel lite?

Thought you said trash talk

A nothingburger for me

Why is this on here?

Another annoying male vocalist, 2/5

Didn't know what to expect. At first it threatened to be interesting...interesting. Interestingness was chain it, but, it was faster.

I yawned through most of this album. It really didn’t do anything for me at all. It’s not offensively bad, just super boring. Not what I loved about 80’s music at all growing up.

Neutral. However, the harmonica solo in "living in another world" was quite nice. 2,7

can't beat this review. spot on. "I'm going to create another list called "1001 Mediocre New Wave Albums You Must Hear Before You Die". That would reduce the current list by about 700, and it might be hard work to replace those, but I think it's worth it." the fact that they referred to satie and debussey as inspiration is offensive...

It’s got a vibe to it, some good moments, works when you’re looking for something lighter.

Meh. Too much milquetoast British rock on this list.

This didn't really resonate with me. It's clear Mark Hollis has an incredible voice; both robust and haunting. The compositions seem complex and layered. I'm sure musicians and producers have a lot to like about this album. For me, it felt like a challenge listening to it. The melody and tempo of songs would change on a whim which felt confusing and aimless. It felt like improvising with no sense of direction. At times, I honestly just felt bored. I give kudos to any band or artist that is willing to abandon the style that made them famous in order to create the art they truly want to make. That's about the best I can say about this one.

I liked the organ

2.1 1x not bad, just the 80s sound not my thing

I saw Talk Talk when they open up for Berlin in the 80. Their song It’s My Life was big. They never reached the level of recognition in the US as in England it seems. I do really like the sound of the lead singer. He always sounded like he was straining a bit to sing, but it worked somehow. I was not at all a fan of the slow songs on this album, unfortunately there seemed to be a lot of those. A rather drab album overall. Highlight for me is Life’s What You Make It - which I had heard before.

Holy crap, an album couldn't be more 80s, that vocal style...

Another 80s album. Not much else to say - not a fan.

Very 80s. All a bit drowned out and his voice isn’t the best.

The music was decent and atmospheric but on the whole I found this boring. It might have gotten 3 stars if not for the singer’s voice which I found rather annoying. Not for me - sorry Dad!

Honestly, its just 80s in that Peter Gabriel way that I'm not caring much for, on top of me not really liking the vocals. They're too anemic and mixed down. I like some of the instrumentals though (Give It Up is a solid one).

I don’t like the singing

I had no thoughts or feelings while listening to this.

Help me! I’m stuck listening to this album and I don’t know why it’s here.

Bland and vapid pop with boring emo singer.

not for me

Extremely sounding 80s pop with some minor synth influences. Must say this aged fairly bad. Sounded like a boring version of Phil Collins or Genesis, and I sometimes find their albums quite dull themselves. Tried to pay attention and find something decent in this album, but didn't really manage to.

Now that’s what I call generic 80s! Another ho-hum album included mostly likely because the band is from England. It washed over me like an inoffensive rain leaving no memory in my mind and drying off the second the album was over.

Nothing special

A bit too stereotypically 80's for me to really love

Made me think 80's emo. I just didn't get into this one. Maybe it was my attitude that day but it just was so somber and whiny. It was the typical 80's over the type vibe but it was just so whiny and depressing. His voice really started to get to me and I just didn't connect to what he was trying to say. Really left me feeling meh

a little too textbook 80s for me

Random thoughts: * I know people have a fond like of Talk Talk and I mostly know them from the song "It's My Life" which I know best from No Doubt's cover. * I didn't particularly care for this one. It was bland 80s soft rock. * I listened to it once passively and then started playing it again but it just was too bland and a little downer. * Maybe this one needs to be revisited in a different mood. But I doubt I'll ever get back there.

My iPod tells me that I just listened to 8 individual tracks, but my ears tell me that I just listened to the same song 8 times. The vocalist sounds like if Kermit the Frog were British. I didn't hate this enough to give it one star, but it's friggin' close. 2 stars.

Kinda boring. I don't like children singing out of tune on my albums, thank you very much.

It’s fine

A boring, pretentious Bowie rip off. Songs are too long and repetitive. I won’t listen again.

They definitely have a style all of their own, but to me it's quite samen, and dragging on.

Decent 80s ethereal rock

Interesting sound but kinda empty

I liked when the music got interesting towards the end of the album

Weird a few ok songs, sounded like it was created on a electric keyboard I had when I was a kid

Büro, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Gar nicht so meine Tasse Tee.

Not my cup of tea.

I'm giving this a 2 but I do think it has potential. I was listening to this while working out, which probably killed it for me. I feel like under the right circumstances I could've liked it more but right now it's a 2

If you asked AI to create a bog-standard 80's new wave album, it would give you this.

Feels VERY mid-80s. The driving beat and guitar dipshittery really annoys me, which bothers me more than it should because I WANT to like some of this. If this album had been made ten years later it probably would sound like Radiohead, instead it sounds like hexagonal drum sets and hairspray.

Boring.

Am I allowed to slate an album for its drum sound? I didn't find this album very exciting. Hated that 80s drum compression. The vocals weren't really my cup of tea. It really seems like an album/band that has a series of die hard fans, but for everyone else; they were just there at the right time. Perhaps like Alien Ant Farm. 2 stars from me.

Not quite me but can see the appeal

Meh. Listened to this a couple days ago and have already forgotten. Nothing to warrant a revisit.

No, thank you

Ok but a little too 80s for my liking

Not for me

meh new wave

"Life's What You Make It" is the best track on the album. The rest of it is like, ok, it's a Talk Talk album.

I remember that band, but not that song. I know their earlier music

Sounds like a lot of other soft pop from the 80s. Not getting high marks from me

This album had a dark edge to it Highlights: - Living in Another World - Give It Up - Time It’s Time

Pretty unremarkable to be honest

Doesn't have the most iconic Talk Talk songs, and didn't really jump out at me. Nice background music, or music to go to sleep to.

Pop, 1986 -> 2

Was thinking this was a one guy show. Like i can only describe it as "continuous". Didnt stop much or change? What Patti Smith is to artsy punks that wanna go onstage to have an excuse to yell about horses n shit, this is to aspiring poets with a drum machine and condescension. Like i half expect them to look like Morissey. Difference is patti smith is awesome and morissey is whatever. Like i swear it was one guy with a drum machine and a keyboard. Turns out they have a drummer. Im gonna have to relisten later but rn it just didnt hit. Like i just sighed like ok sure

I was bored

Other than Life's What You Make It, this was a much more boring version of Tears for Fears. Not worth the time.

I listened to this 24 hours ago and can't remember much. Didn't love it, didn't totally hate it.

What jimmy fallon and only jimmy fallon wishes he sounded like

A slow Peter Gabriel-ish 80s album.

I didnt like to much cause its not my type of music

Part chill, part upbeat, kind of artsy pop/rock/jazz, a little experimental

Other than the one song, it's very forgettable. Liked Songs Added: Life's What You Make It

I thought this was okay when it started - interesting with the children's voices - and *his* vocals are pretty distinctive (and recognizable from those 2 big 80s hits.) This album doesn't have those hits, and apparently represents the band's shift away from pop sensibilities. Ultimately, while it started as fine, it felt like a slog by the end.

so uh Is Spirit of Eden somehow *not* on this list?

This was an interesting sound. Enjoyed the harmonica. Something about it didn't land with me though, maybe the singer's voice. Found it a bit much after a while and songs too long

Not my jam. Don't remember any of it.

Ugh boring. I want to give it a 1 but I managed to listen to It all. Not list worthy

It was okay for easy listening in the morning while hung over.

J - 2/5 Best Track - "Life's What You Make it" F - DNL

This is exactly because i dont like 80s songs, especially new wave. Horrendous sounds, very rubbish...

Ah, the 80’s - a decade where unbelievable talent was wasted on crappy music.

I've seen people say great things about Talk Talk, but I've never quite got what all the fuss is about. This is undoubtedly a slickly-produced album, pleasant sounding for sure, and the band definitely have an ear for taking a chord progression somewhere a little more unexpected than their chart-friendly pop presentation might suggest. But listening to it right through for the first time in a while, I think I've finally figured out what irks me about Talk Talk and bands of a similar ilk - it's all the "space". For me, Life's What You Make it stands out as a single material because it has a hook, and that hook is the simple guitar line that takes over from the vocal in the chorus. Contrast that with the second track, I Don't Believe In You - the chorus follows the same format, a line of lyric crammed into the first bar of a four bar progression, but here, rather than having something melodic hold your interest for the remainder of those four bars, the chord progression just plays out and resolves back to repeat itself with nothing much else going on. To me, that's just three bars of nothingness, I don't get why you would choose to have that in your song, unless of course it was a really exciting and unexpected run of chords or something, which in this case it is not. It just seems boring. Without getting too deep into it, the tension between melody and the musical foundation of the track is what gives a song its momentum, IMHO. Maybe a bit unfair to compare anything to Strawberry Fields Forever, but think of how, in that song, the medlody of the vocal leads you right into the next chord change, and then that next chord throws you into the next line of vocal and so on, like this constantly shifting balancing act that feels like it's falling apart but is somehow holding itself together at the same time. Talk Talk don't sound like that - they sound like a load of musical backing tracks were conceived and recorded, and then the lyrics were sprinkled on afterwards and fell into a few of the cracks here and there. It's just a bit dull, and the vocal melodies are only occasionally as exciting as the music. Not a massive fan of his voice in general either, which doesn't help. Sadly, for all that has been added to what is, on the face of it, a slick 80s pop sound by way of thoughtful progressions and subtle modulations in key, there just aren't enough big hooks and catchy choruses to make it all worthwhile.

I appreciate snippets, like the opening drums and the guitar in I Don't Believe or Living, but the whole too often teeters dangerously on the edge of collapsing into uninteresting 80s synth pop. Listen for the good parts.

I spent most of the album trying to figure out if there were live drummer/ percussions, or if it was all a drum machine. Either way, there was a real sterile vibe to this. I found it rather boring.

I appreciate the sophistication and subtlety, though I found the whole thing a bit tepid.

By all accounts I should have loved this. Peak mid 80s sound. But I found myself not paying attention and a bit bored. Meh. (I question if there is some bias based on my dislike of the British spelling of "colour." Gimme British anything---a grey sky, a stay in hospital, an "s" vs a "z"---but I have a strange repulsion to seeing "color" with a u.)

I'm road tripping today and I can definitely say this is not a great road trip album. it wouldn't be my thing really anyways. at best, the album is pretty mid and at worst it's pretty fuckin boring! thisv album had almost nothing for me. the only thing keeping this from the gutter for me is that it's at least listenable

meh. 2 stars

Not really mine.

Did not stand out to me in any way. Not bad, but nothing special.

Talk Talk is only good in their earlier synthpop songs where the singer's drippy voice can be contrasted with crisp, uptempo beats. This album is just a drag.

Kind of like background music. Maybe for a B movie. Overall pretty uninspiring. 2/5 Won’t listen again

Would this album even make the top 100 new wave albums on this list?

Not really my jam. Melodramatic with a very very 80s sound. I respect it as an artistic expression. Just feel like I can't relate at all with the singer. It's on the fence but I'm feeling generous.

Meh, I'm sure it broke ground. Doesn't seem to hold up well.

Wow. I was bored outta my gourd with this one.

Not bad but not really for me

Fairly unmemorable

My goodness, that was boring. The same rhythm everywhere in 80% of the tracks. The remaining 20% were dull. If that's the color of spring, I'd rather stay in winter. 2/5

I just have a really hard time with 80's Nu-wave. I dont mind the instrumentation but the signers always sound like they just got their socks wet and they are upset and melodramatic about it.

Very Brit pop. Stingish, kinda Bowie, kinda Phil Collins. Ultimately monotonous, though.

Most of it was just plain boring. a couple of the songs were really weird. Happiness Is Easy just goes all over the place. Chameleon Day felt like it didn't go anywhere. Only ok song was I Don't Believe In You, nice and smooth. Best song: I Don't Believe In You

Niet echt bijzonder maar wel prim

Heard a different Talk Talk album before. They do have some nice songs but eh, this album doesn't really have any 2/5

47/1001 - Not a fan of the children's choir. Or the voice or the instrumentation or the songwriting. Was looking forward to this based on the description but the Debussy and Bartok influence seems superficial at best.

What a frustrating listen. Sonically, musically, this album is really super interesting. Great groove and creativity on the drums, fluid and funky bass lines, creative chord progressions and layered synth and keyboard sounds. A lot of it reminds me of the old Jah Wobble/Invaders of the Heart stuff I used to listen to or even the Eno/Wobble collab disc. So what's wrong? Hollis's flaccid crooning all over this thing...he sings like a limp dick. So totally unlistenable and its weird because he doesn't seem like that too much on their older stuff. For this one though, I just can't.

It was 80s synthpop, it was ok not a huge fan.

älkää päästäkö näitä kodittomia studioon!!! aina tulee jotain tälläistä palkkioksi huoh.. studio eksekutiivit: halpaa halpaa nyt tarvitaan halpaa hei sinä kadulla... kadullamakaaja.. tuleppa tännne laulamaan saat 50 paunaa.. fifty pounds mate... aright mate sanoo likaparta... sitten jotain tämmöstä tulee palkkioksi huoh.. noei sentään. ei näillä pojilla parta kasvaisi vaikka pistäisi oikeisiin töihin. pysyvästi pehmeitä, ikuisia imeväisiä.. puhtaat kädet pysyy puhtaana ja silti pestään kun olisi iilimatoi ihos... puhu puhu mutta älä missään nimessä tee töitä töitä. saatana. life si what you make ti

Was looking forward to this one, but ultimately didn't get it and found it boring. Too bad. 2/5

“Hey Siri, what does the 1980’s sound like?” *queues up this album* There couldn’t be more cliché mid-80’s power ballad pop rock. It’s neither good nor bad, just a decent of-the-time-period background soundtrack. There weren’t any recognizable stand-out hits from this album.

The Colour Of Spring seemed like one 45 minute song to me. Great use of the tambourine, though. (2.4*s)

I honestly can’t remember a thing about this. It was foggy and I had to concentrate on the road I suppose. It didn’t seem overly inspiring.

Not my favorite. Average British 80s pop. One hit song "it's my life" is pretty good.

Please stop it with these British New Wave Pop albums Best Song: Living in Another World Rating: 4.0/10 2 Stars

If you know the band this is probably brilliant to you. But this requires knowledge of the history and why it was written to understand this. I definitely didn't need to hear this before I died.

this sure is some vintage Adult Contemporary. Best part is the album cover, which is impeccable.

2.5 I like the guy’s weird voice but a year in the endless parade of British pop does less and less for me

Found this to be quite the snooze fest to be honest

Boring, bland, 80s soft rock.

Review of The Colour of Spring – Talk Talk Released in 1986, The Colour of Spring by Talk Talk is widely recognized as a milestone in the band’s transition to a more sophisticated sound, but not every aspect of the album shines as critics often suggest. While fans praise its depth and musical maturity, there are flaws that, in my opinion, may frustrate listeners, especially those who prefer the energy of the band’s earlier work. To begin with, the production, although layered and rich, sometimes feels overly pretentious. There are moments when the instrumental complexity overshadows the emotional core, making some tracks dense and difficult to engage with. “Happiness Is Easy,” for example, opens the album with a promising melody but gets lost in arrangements that confuse rather than captivate. Mark Hollis’ voice, while unique, can sound monotonous at times, particularly in longer tracks like “April 5th.” The introspective tone he adopts doesn’t always strike the right balance with the instrumental elements, leaving an emotional void that weakens the songs’ impact. Additionally, the album’s pacing is uneven, with parts that drag on, particularly in the second half. This makes the overall experience feel more like an exercise in patience than a musical journey. For instance, in “Chameleon Day,” the attempt to create an ethereal atmosphere results in a track that feels unfinished and unnecessarily minimalist. In the end, The Colour of Spring might be a victim of its own ambition. Despite its clear artistic intentions, the album may alienate listeners seeking something more direct and emotionally resonant. It undeniably paved the way for the more experimental sound of Spirit of Eden, but on its own, it lacks cohesion and impact. For those who enjoy more challenging sounds, the album may have its appeal. But for me, The Colour of Spring was a frustrating and disconnected experience that feels more focused on impressing than truly connecting.

Uninspiring

I don't like the phlegminess of his voice. It's not pleasing or interesting to listen to. A lot of the songs on the album give the vibe of being played during a climatic montage in 80s movies. I like the instrumentation and the general chord/musical decisions, so that just kind of cancels out with how much I dislike his voice. The bass playing, in particular is delicious. You can hear some of the classical influences on the music, especially in Chameleon Day. I'm just kind of wholly unimpressed. I think with some evolutions and development, this album (or later works by Talk Talk) could be good, maybe really good. This album just isn't really it, though. It's not bad, I'm not upset by it, and there are some good things going on. Favorite Song(s): Chameleon Day

Really British Pee wee herman mumbles over a piano for 45 minutes. Love the big hit from Talk Talk, you know the one, but this album just didn’t do it for me. Really wanted to like it but most of the songs were really boring and his accent/style is so strong that I couldn’t even understand half of what he was saying. Really wish I enjoyed this more than I did. 4/10

Personally, I just don't like this style of sing singing. Sort of like a less-cool Peter Gabriel with a hint of Morrissey. The touch of Morrissey is the problem for me, I think.

New to me. Must’ve bypassed Australia. Quite like the sound.

i don't hate this album i just didn't connect with it, i could see it really clicking with you if you're a uuhh ahh ooh unnh type of guy or like listening to guys that do that, i don't believe in you is very good though but the rest of the album doesn't fall into that corner if only in flashes (e.g. give it up and time it's time)

This just bores the hell out of me. For my tastes, it’s too arty for its own good. I’m also just not a huge fan of this vocal style. Just not for me.

I am a big fan of new wave and new romantic sounds of the 80s, and while I respect that Talk Talk took a creative risk, I preferred their synthesized pop sound. I never enjoyed their post rock at all. The alchemy doesn't seem to work. Doesn't have the pulse pounding thrill of new wave and doesn't have the soaring inspiration of Tears for Fears or Peter Gabriel, which is what I think they were going for here. Technically astute recording, production, and performances, so I wanted to enjoy it but it never seemed to get out of 2nd gear. I did not come to like any of the songs and ultimately it felt like a borefest. The 80s had many fantastic albums and this was not one of them.

It was a little boring

This ain’t it

I can’t figure out what these guys are going for but whatever it is, it isn’t for me.

2/5 not my thaaaang chicken wang

kind of boring.

Damn, this is boring.

It's an okay album, but do we MUST listen to it before die? Are you sure about it?

I respect what they attempted here with textures and moods but it drags and didn’t grab me, even after repeated listens. April 5th was the standout track.

Unremarkable.

I was on board for giving this a down the middle, inoffensive 3, standard 80s new wave/synthpop/whatever. Half way through I said fuck it, I’m bore of this and listened to Rage Against the Machine instead. This album was just not very interesting to me.

A bit too lame for me

I actually enjoyed the first song on here. Then it just felt like one long song after another. I was looking forward to Life’s What You Make it because I foolishly thought it was the original of the Hannah Montana assumed cover and was very wrong.

Some more (likely British) '80s pop-rock stuff, a bit ho-hum overall. Feel like I know the name Talk Talk but I couldn't name an album or song if I tried. A couple cool ones on here, but it's really nothing special to me. One of those "why are we listening to this" inclusions. Favorite tracks: Life's What You Make It, Give It Up. Album art: A bunch of butterflies framed. I like this one quite a bit. 2.5/5

I didn’t find anything uniquely terrible about this album, there was some good atmospheric music, but nothing that I could foresee wanting to return to. Perhaps a second listen would unlock it for me. But for now I’m just underwhelmed. 2.5/5

Most of this sounds like ponderous nothingness

Well you can definitely tell it was made in the 80s. There’s some interesting ideas and decent atmosphere here, but I don’t especially like any of the songs, so that’s kind of a hard problem to overcome. Best song: Living in Another World

A couple nice moments, liked the percussion throughout. Overall felt like a lot of window dressing. Layering in dozens of instruments to make the album seem more interesting than it is.

All style no substance

Pretty dreary

This was just a snoozefest I'm afraid, not even the big hit on side A could pull it up above a woeful 2 stars.

2/5 Meh.

I'm surprised by the number of 4 and 5 ratings on this album. I just can't get into it, and I don't *not* like '80s music. But even the single here, "Life's What You Make It", is just repetitive and boring.

Don't like the singer's voice. The rest was listenable, I liked the organ & the percussion & most of the chord progressions but it really comes down to the singer in music like this. Too bad.

Some interesting instrumental parts but I’m not fan of this kind of singing. I feel like something about it is exhausting listening to.

Forgettable

Nothing abrasive about this one.

I love the thrift store. You know what they say, "one man's trash is another man's treasure." Somehow there's a disconnect between a day at the thrift stores and a day spent wandering through grandma's closets. For those millennials listening to this today, The Colour Of Spring is undoubtedly like a strange trip to the thrift store. Almost as if they're browsing for vintage halloween costume garb with wonder. Trying to put together something that resembles Rodney Dangerfield's character in Caddyshack, or a Wisconsinite's vintage bowler getup complete with an AMF bowling ball handbag and a Schlitz Beer nylon windbreaker. Unfortunately for me, listening to The Colour Of Spring is more like being forced to spend the day in grandma's closets. It's dank, musty and smells like 80' year old BO, (life really hasn't been the same since grandad died). So, when you're asked the question, "Have you ever wondered what Adult Contemporary sounded like in the '80's?" and your reaction is an emphatic "YES!" Well millennial, this is the album for you. For the rest of us, close your eyes and get to your happy place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5qTg5RYK_4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QEzNMQWbho

Another mid-80s British album with that ubiquitous Morrissey-ish vocal style. “Living in Another World” was the most I got into Talk Talk, until the harmonica solo kicked in and the song meandered on for three more minutes. By the time I got to “Give It Up,” it clicked. It’s not just the whiny Morrissey-esque thing. It’s Morrissey crossed with Michael Bolton! It was a slow start, and I really wasn’t sure what to expect after the Jesus-y “Happiness is Easy,” but “The Colour of Spring” grew on me. Unfortunately, “Chameleon Day” killed the momentum. “Time It’s Time” tried to get it back. Enough for a 3?

Hmm OK

Just boring. Uneventful.

not horrible.

this album was so boring it took me a month to listen to it

love me some new wave, its my life is a banger. unfortunately thats not on this album. nothing on here is really doing much

2. Boring neo new wave.

może nawet ciekawa muzyka by była ale straszny meski wyjec jest

Apart from the hit it didn't do too much for me

Waiting for something that never happens.

This had a lot of Tears for Fears vibes with none of the energy. Every song just kind of meandered. No jazz chords to be found here, perhaps reviews meant to say it's jazz-prog-pop? In any event, I don't think I'll listen again. 2/5.

If I would ever be into this album at any point in my life it would be right now, and it just didn't land with me until the very end when it started to click. Real conflicted on this one.

Couldn't get into it

Another bland 80s brit album. I know it inspired bands I like but I couldn't get into it. Mark Hollis's voice is grating. Pass.

I liked the original songs vs the remastered.

Never heard of this and I did not enjoy it much. Competent writing and performance, but just seems like a clinic on fitting every '80s pop-trope that I can't stand into one album. Reminiscent of a lot of other bands from that era, but with nothing original to make it stand out on its own. Total snooze-fest for me.

Boring.

The singer sounds like Elvis Costello! I think I enjoyed some of it but wouldn’t ever put it on again. I think I could die without hearing this one.

1. hapynezz iz eazy - 1 2. dont believe in you - 1.5 3. lifez uuhat you make it - 1.5 4. april 5th - 1.5 5. another uuorld - 1 6. give it up - 1 7. chameleon day - 0 8. itz time - 1.5

Unsure why it’s on this list, just another mediocre album really

This is like Peter Gabriel, but more boring.

The Colour of Spring is interesting enough in places to make it stand out a bit but ultimately not enough to save it from falling into the pile of stuff from the 80s marked 'why is this here?'. Living In Another World is the best of the three most listened-to songs, but the track that I liked most was I Don't Believe In You, and even then the guitar work that elevates it near the end really comes across as a poor attempt to ape Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms from a year earlier. 2.

We really are in a bit of a rut. This is pretty generic, 80s new wave, heavy on the generic synth, light on anything interesting. Tracks are all a minute too long at least, there's not much in the way of variety. Fine, but not good. 2/5.

not good

Lidt for meget 80er synth og elektroniske trommer. Ikke helt nok følelser der flår i mig. Der er nogle gode melodier, men leveringen bliver for pæn og overfladisk

Not sure I had to listen to that

It was very meh.

Second album in a row with these timid mumbly vocals and I don't really care for it. It kind of has a similar problem that Michael McDonald has with articulation. Musically this one is better, and there are better moments than others, but those better moments are a let down once the vocals don't meet the build up of the instruments. I'm sure this isn't the most PC take, but it reminds me of Peter Gabriel if he had a stroke. Favorite track "Time it's Time" 2/5

80's new age. 2/5

Musically listenable, vocally dissonant. Gave it an extra point for the one good song I know.

'I believe in you' was pleasant enough with some chunky guitar. All the rest is pretty forgettable. The British centrist nature of this list is getting tiresome. This is a mediocre 80's pop band. The official list has one Tom Petty album, no Hot Tuna and incredibly no Professor Longhair. Talk, Talk more like Sleep, Sleep 2*

It's My Life is way better. This was just boring

A definite shift from their initial poppy work. The tighter constraints of that are forsaken for a number of earnest rambling extensions. The fun and froth now gone. Not an enjoyable experience.

A pile of meh. I don't get this, why is this here? Another album that just kind of came and went.

Really wanted to like this, but still sounded overly synthesized. 2 stars

This is a weird album to review. All the songs almost felt like they blended which is odd since there are a few that sound very different. This is kind of interesting. Don't regret listening, don't think I'll come back to it.

I'm just kind of tired of newave. The production here is on point but the arrangements feel unfocused. They would be fine as soundtrack music that I don't really notice until the harmonica and bongos show up on a track like Living in Another World. Tracks are too long for me today. Chameleon Day is messed up though. Some sort of strange torture that tries to put you to sleep and jolt you awake repeatedly. I have to admit this went slowly down the whole way. Time it's Time.... to end this. Come on guys 8 minutes of this? I'm just not in the mood. 2 stars

Bit too nasal on the vocals. OK songs.

2,5/5 His voice is good and it isn’t so bad, but none of the songs really stand out. It’s okay but nothing special

Well, this is honestly kind of deflating. I was hoping for my first experience with Talk Talk to be some major, life-changing experience where I opened my eyes to the Joy Division of the late 80s, but this is very dull. Every song has the same production issues that I have with most late 80s album, and while this feels a lot more genuine, often using real instruments, it still has this hint of mainstream appeal that cannot be shaken off. I don't inherently have anything wrong with that, but then I feel it at least has to be catchy, something to grab my attention, and this certainly isn't. Everything flies by and drags at the same time, and never is it a moment to remember one way or another. I'd perhaps look for solace within the lyrics, but they feel unintelligible most of the time, and when I can tune in, they seem repetitive and its hard to discern any meaning behind them. I really am broken up about not liking this, but this album really feels like a colors on the cover, various shades of a muted brown-ish tan, and not much more. There's no vibrancy, no reason to excite, nor any dark colors to bathe yourself in. Its just, there.

i can read about the influence this band has had on later music that i love, but removed from its context, i was struggling to hear what made this album a standout. i liked the music but found the singer's tone of voice to the grating, and the album just made me wish i was listening to Duran Duran instead. The last track "Time It's Time" was my favorite, with the Ambrosian Singers overwhelming the vocalist.

Mostly had a bad time, from some of the stuff I was reading it sounds like they had a bad time making it too. I do enjoy some of their other work though (which would be perhaps much to Mark Hollis' chagrin)

kind of a nothingburger for me

this is the most fuckin 80s. i don't think there was anything that I hated but I was fully bored
