Reviews (page 5 of 7)

This was simultaneously a really good 80s album while also being a pretty bad one. The first song is really good with an interesting beat and then the kids sing the chorus. Many of the songs have a good use of instrumentals and are a good listen. There are a few songs that drag or just aren’t that enjoyable. This is a very good average album. I’d listen to some of it again. 6.3/10

I respect the craftsmanship but the songs don’t have sonic claws to stick in me.

Barely made it through this one. I didn't dislike it really, but I just found it rather boring, and his voice sounds kind of silly to me. There were some rather unique instrumentals here and there, it definitely has the brew for a rich album, but it ultimately falls flat for me.

Great mid-80's sound and a clear line to the Alternative weirdness sounds of the mid-90's.

frekar áhugavert gáfumannapopp. held að styrkist við aðra umferð. 3,5.

Pop, jazz, elektroniskt. Äh va fan vi kör hela paletten. Mix and match. Och barnkör. Men jag gillar det. I don't Believe In You är en 4a.

A somewhat uneven effort - but the album works best when it unleashes the soaring atmospheric melodic rock sound - a few of the numbers really carried me away. A strong 3...

Mellow

Not great, not terrible. Some tracks very samey and overlong, but some good parts

Very 80s, which is my least favorite decade, but this record isn’t too bad. It’s not as obnoxious or cheesy as much of the 80s pop that’s out there is. It’s light and airy, soft and easy on the ears. The vocals are calming, matching well with the ethereal and dreamy instrumentation. Not bad.

Solid - 7/10

6/10 - It was pretty interesting although not fantastic. Some of the songs hit and a bunch did not. It was similar to some other artists but I could not quite put my finger on it.

As far as 80s era albums go, this is pretty good. The instrumentation still has elements of real on it with the electronic contributions (particularly synth) seemingly used as a part of a whole rather than dominating the soul of the album. The vocals are very smooth, lacking the embarrassing squeal that plagued the decade. It would be unsurprising if Seal drew inspiration from this album. Overall, there are times when listening to 80s era music feels pleasantly nostalgic and this is honestly one of them.

Siistit Deep Purple tyyliset urut. Ihan erikoista brittipoppia. Vähän erilaista kuin normaali. Parhaat: Happiness Is Easy, Give It Up

Thoroughly surprised that I enjoyed this. Definitely not an artist or genre that I care for. But this album was a bit of a journey. The vocals were a bit lacking... As in they did nothing for me... But the overall feel to the record was great. Music had a soundtrack or score quality to it - minus any orchestration. One song had maybe the coolest harmonica solo ever. Good listen. No need to return to this record but happy to have listened.

I have no strong feelings about this album. It is just your average new wave album, with some interesting sounds here and there. It felt like it would work well as background sound whilst trying to focus, but otherwise, nothing amazing.

Experimental Pop, which apparently means excellent soundscape ruined through mediocre vocals.

good enough album, but not really stood out

Pleasant enough. Doesnt really grab me so to speak but can appreciate their artistry. Just nothing particularly memorable but a pleasant listen.

Unique sound. I could listen to more of this.

Nice and chill

Buen disco. Por momentos, arriba, pero mayormente tranquilo.

It's a chill, well produced mid-80s new wave/pop album, enjoyable enough to listen to it once, but I didn't find it memorable or particularly interesting.

Don’t know what to expect. Easy listening and mellow, jazz club/ elevator music vibes. Enjoyable. Michael McDonald??

The sounds of the 80s

V cute but wouldn’t be bopping to this

Its decent but nothing blew me away

Before this the only thing I knew about Talk Talk is that Laughing Stock is supposed to be great, one of few albums that went into ridiculous production hell and came out good. Colour of Spring didn't do that much for me so I took this as a reminder to go hear Laughing Stock, and then Spirit of Eden. I think either of the other two are things you hear you should hear before you die, and Colour of Spring is not, but it's the only one on the list. Colour of Spring: 2.5/5 some cool stuff but the sounds are too sterile, the consistent electronic beat doesn't help this music and smothers the best moments. Laughing Stock: 3/5 I don't see yet what makes this so amazing but it was interesting and I'm open to the idea that it'll grow on me. Spirit of Eden: 4/5 this one was real cool. excellent guitar sounds. Desire very Velvet Underground-y, does a cool transition from that right into something very different that I can't recall anyone else pulling off. I swear that somewhere in this I heard the same song twice, something with the same vocal phrase followed by a harmonica interlude, but I will probably not be jumping back to Colour of Spring to check. talk: talked. (⌐■_■)

Maybe a week back I said New Wave has to be a bit gothy or punk to be good. This is new wave right? It’s not gothy or punk, and it’s pretty cool. Consider this the upper bar maybe. For non-gothy or -punk new wave.

I admit I didn't listen to it all, but I couldn't get into it. Rating would probably change if I give it another go.

Ok, not very special though, just background music

Take Pink Floyd, strip away some of the things that make them great, add Michael Bolton on vocals, and voila!

Well, the art is really cool. Not quite a Cure or Depeche Mode kinda thing but I think it could be in the same neighborhood.

Itz alright! Sorta boring but at least 3 songs made up for that

I think the only Talk Talk song I'd heard before was "It's my Life" and then, only because of the No Doubt cover. This album was fine. The songs all felt like 1-4 minutes too long, but otherwise inoffensive. Will probably not come back to this one.

Eenvoudig album, geen poes-pas. Klinkt prima. ***

already listened. not as good as laughing stock but my second favourite talk talk album

Yawn. Boring forgettable 80s British new wave. The album is a good length but the songs are too long and just nothing feels like it goes anywhere. 2.5/5

5/10 I like life's what you make it. the rest of the songs are pleasant enough and would be all the rage if I lived in a sleepy village and didn't have a job to do. 4-11-2024

It seems I can handle his voice for exactly one song. First song was great, then it just got grating.

Good listening, but not super interesting lyrically or musically. Songs have a tendency to drag a little.

Very 90s techno-sounding, early MTV sounding British synth pop.

This album reminds me of the "Tears for Fears" album in the book, because it contains a small amount of really good songs that all seem to come close to the 5-minute mark. This is an observation and not a criticism. Okay, maybe it is a criticism because the songs can become very repetitive towards the end. Good songs and I enjoyed the sound. This is my first experience with Talk Talk and it was a good experience. I cannot say I would listen to this album frequently, but I also would not turn it off it were on. This music is right down my alley in terms of the sound.

nice and peaceful

good background sounds while working

Nice album, sounds a little dated in 2024.

Interesting elements, but couldn't really get into it

Aburrido

Band is ok, but the lp isn't catchy at all

Although I liked it musically I found his voice grating.

Talk talk is one of those bands I can't really get into. The music is good, but the vocals are too underwhelming and washed out. That is the case with Laughing Stock also the case with this album. 3/5

Meh, not horrible not great

I liked Happiness is Easy, Life's What You Make It, Give It Up, and Time It's Time. The album dragged at times but had a few songs I enjoyed and added to my 'liked songs' playlist. I probably won't put it on again, but won't be unhappy if I happen to hear the songs. 6/10

This sound is what I think the 80s sounded like. It was alright

lovely album, kinda groovy but not too heavy. 3 stars.

Not bad

Of the 80s Brit Pop I’ve been getting lately this was not the worst.

Ohhh Talk Talk... I've heard many great things, but haven't listened to them much. Sounds very 80's so far. It's good overall. Feeling a 3.

Honestly, I had this album on as background music while I was working. It didn’t have the songs I expected, but I still enjoyed the listen. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid.

Alright. Forgettable.

It was not bad. I was surprised how many songs I liked.

(life's what you make it).

Sounds like a Roxy Music clone….well produced and catchy, but sounds very much like Roxy Music…I wonder how the timelines sort.

It's ok but forgettable

Very positive like hopecore the album. A good spring album. Didn’t like the children singing backup though

I was immediately intrigued. A lovely sonic experience on earphones and I love the Bryan Ferry-esque vocals. The ballads were unfortunate but luckily there were only a couple. Very close to a four for me. 3.75!

not bad but didn't really stand out.

Duran Duran x Pink Floyd x R.E.M. Simple piano and some fun bass lines really carry this album for me. Super chill listen.

Another perfectly okay one that blends into the background.

It was okay! I like this style of music (SO 80s), but nothing really stood out to me. In fact, a day late I can barely remember any specifics, so that means it must not have been particularly bad or particularly amazing. I enjoyed the guy's voice, but some of his vocal stylings not my favorite.

Sure wish this album had "It's My Life" on it. I enjoy it but confess I'm not sure why it's on here?

This was fine, not very memorable reviewing this after the fact

This is definitely an 80s album, but not that many synthesizers. I was not familiar with any of the songs. I believe I am familiar with the band as they sing It's My Life . It was not bad. It is relatively short at 45 minutes, however, several of the songs still could have been edited down. I would not object to listening to it again, but I would not willfully listen to it again. I will round up.

It was alright for me.

Not really a fan of this, but didn't actively hate it.

I had no idea what I was in for with this. Very 80s sounding. It’s alright but I was sort of bored.

Not a bad listen. New wave is not my favorite genre of music but this wasn't annoying and a pretty easy listen.

Talk Talk. Heard of them, know a couple songs. They were not very popular in the US like they were in Europe. I don't know any of these songs. Singles: --------------------------------------- Life's What You Make It (#16 UK) Living in Another World Give It Up (#59 UK) I Don't Believe in You (#96 UK) Standouts: Life is What You Make it, April 5th, I Don't Believe in You, Give it Up 3.5

If you're into new wave, this is a pretty solid album.

Moodiness is intetesting, but it gets boring and repetitive.

Glemte å følga med, men pleie å vær kos med Talk Talk

Sounded like emotive new wave. Recognised one of the tracks from vice city which was a nice throwback. Last 3 tracks definitely killed any momentum the album had, before then I was quite enjoying it. Middle of the road on balance.

- Nothing much stood out about this album, but it wasn't bad! - Songs were individually all compelling, but the full package sort of blended together - Good sound

- good vibes - feels like they’re just riffin’ sometimes

It's like new wave orchestral pop. It's actually not bad. Similar to Depeche Mode or Roxy Music. Favourite songs: I Don't Believe In You, Living in Another World, Life's What You Make It, Give It Up Least favourite songs: April 5th, Chameleon Day 3/5

Solid pop. The sound seems somewhat ahead of it's time.

I can imagine Patrick Bateman loving this album.

this feels like it should be my shit but I am kinda bored. not really getting me this time sorry talk talk

This was great music to lightly doze to

I didn’t mind this album and I really like Life’s What You Make It (which most people already know) but I did find the album was a bit boring if I wasn’t in the right headspace. The album it reminded me of was Madonna’s True Blue, strangely, although it came out around the same time period I guess. Listens: 2 Fave Track: Life’s What You Make It Rating: 3

Good, 80's vibey tunes

Some good songs but overall not super special

It was serviceable. I think the vocals were pretty annoying and the instrumentals weren’t my style, but it was okay. I don’t think it deserves to be grouped with the twos.

This was alright, but don't see myself coming back to much here.

Nice moody jams. Fav track: living in another world Light 3.5

Wasn't blown away, but some moody rhythms to relax into. Seem like an interesting band, curious to see if there are other albums of theirs to get stuck into or if this is the peak for them. Two and a half. Fave track: Chameleon Man

While I love me some 80s New Romantic synth-pop, and indeed some of Talk Talks earlier hits (e.g. "It's My Life") are faves, this one felt a little dreary and I got somewhat tired of Mark Hollis' voice over the course of the album. I realize it's more of an artistic reach and statement, and I appreciate that, but sometimes that isn't what you want to listen to when you're making pie crust.

The lyrics aren’t deep and the bass line is 11 notes repeated half a million times and yet Life’s What You Make It is still a favorite of mine and I will groove out to it forever. The rest of the album is exactly the kind of 80s stuff I’ve never really connected with.

Atmospheric with some dense rockier songs. More dense than Blue Nile, but a similar grown-up serious feel with distinct Bryan Ferry-sounding vocals. Good.

Sounds like a one time opener for Michael Bolton.

lifes what you make it ! 3.5

It's decent and definitely a product of its time. I bet I would've liked this more if I were around in 1986. Ah well, it's not bad background

I liked it, I wasn't very blown away but there were definitely some cool sounding songs. I think I may come back to this at some point but nothing really grabbed me.

It took a couple of tracks, but eventually I really liked this. Not, in my opinion, as good as Spirit of Eden, but still very good.

6/10. This was a good album, solid and listenable throughout, but nothing stood out to me as great

Bleh. 5/10

Some good tunes on can't knock it. First album I've never heard of though heard of the band. Very American psychoesque. 5.5/10

New Wave, Post Punk, Art Pop, whatever... Mostly bland but effervescent in places, rises to high at times but very few and far between

Enjoyable.

Decent with some songs I liked but a bit boring to me. Rating: 3.5

Talk Talk here deliver a distinctive style which is both classic 80s in the sense that it's synth heavy, metronomic beat and big on vocals, whilst at the same time being strikingly un-80s in its energyless delivery. Obviously 'Life's What You Make It' is the standout track, but for me there's little else memorable about it apart from an orchestra of recorders on 'Time It's Time'

This was a bit of a hit or miss for me. Why does the vocalist sound like he's strangling himself? It's too much of a strain for him or something? I like the children singing in the first track "Happiness Is Easy," and the next two tracks were pretty good, but still it felt like he was straining in his voice a lot. I have to wonder if he can still reach these notes today. Because of that, some of the vocals sounded garbled to me, like in "Living In Another World" and "Time It's Time". What was interesting was the keyboards had an almost vocal-like quality on "Time It's Time," and I almost thought they were singing something. I listened to this album a couple of times because I wanted to like the singer, but I just felt he was trying too hard. Maybe it was me, but that's how I took it. So it was just... ok. The few clunkers (to me, at least) were "Living In Another World" and "Time It's Time". Next.

I love Mark Hollis' voice, so deep and reverberating. And the stripped down musical approach is cool, though I didn't mind their more synth-heavy previous work. And as much as I like the first three tracks Happiness is Easy, I Don't Believe in You, and Life's What You Make It (their big single from this album ), Hollis' vocals do kind of sound similar. I didn't enjoy their next biggest single as much (Living in Another World) - it was okay - or the back half of the album. Again, it was okay, but lost a bit of steam. An enjoyable album and a reminder that they weren't just a one-hit synth wonder with It's My Life, but not a great album by any means.

Love the sound but expected more. Needed more snap.

Favo: Happiness is easy, Life's what you make it, Give it up

Wow this sounds great - lot's of acoustic sounds.

The album started off pretty strong but the back half of songs were a bit weaker.

Ruhiger 80‘ Synthpop mit New Wave Einschlag

Not all tracks are great. One track is amazing (life’s what’s you make it).

Interesting album. I’ve always thought of Talk Talk as a synth pop band. This album, while it employs synths, seems to have more emphasis on guitars, bass and non-synth keyboards. Favorite song: “Life’s What You Make It”.

Never listened an album from them, only singles. They're pretty similar.

why is the first minute of the first song, which is 6 and half minutes, basically just a drum? Otherwise, it's ok. good even. Not an album that I'd personally listen to over and over again.

Mid. Not sure why it's on the list.

Decent album in a genre I don’t really like.

If it hadn't been early morning some of this album would possibly have put me to sleep. Not a terrible album by any means, just not for me.

Didn’t excite me.

Hey it wasn't that bad Nat

I didn't hate it!

I like this. It's a strong album by a band that was maturing. At that point in time (1986), this was a good step forward for Talk Talk. But in the grand scheme of modern music (c. 1950 - today), this is not a 4 star album. I would give this a 3.5, and I hate to round down -- I don't feel that this belongs with a lot of 3 star albums, but it doesn't belong with the 4 stars either. Sorry, Talk Talk. It's a very solid album, and I suspect I will listen to it again, which I can't say for most of the 3 star albums on here.

Album 114 of 1001 Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring Favorite Track : Life's What You Make It Rating : 3 / 5 Good album. Nothing that stands out greatly as a "hit" but it kept my attention. Nice melodies, good musicianship...some nice organ. Nothing I can complain about. I would put it on again.

Eh, ok

It’s got a great back half but I find it starts a little boring 3/5

I remember this album. It was released whilst I was at university and I heard some of the tracks here and there. I remember really liking "Life's What You Make It" because of that memorable piano (I think it's a piano?) bass line that's repeated through most of the song. I don't recall hearing their music in the decades after this was popular so I'm glad I got to listen to it again today. I was curious to see how I'd react to it all these years later in such a different time and context in my life. Still holds up quite well and I very much enjoyed "Life's What You Make It" -- the piano still drives it very well and the short lead lines the piano adds give it really nice color. I like the guitar work in that song, too. There's a maturity and sophistication to this album that still works well. I remember their earlier music not being as appealing to me because it was too synth-poppy for my tastes, but the compositions and performances here are impressive.

Something interesting for sure. Lots of cool influences coming together to form just a mash of sounds that is a decent listen. 6/10

Their best new wave album. Doesn't compare to Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock though. Pretty good. 7/10

I use to love new wave.....but hearing all these new wave albums on the list has made me realize how mediocre the genre is

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But it's not great.

On the fence about this one. Somewhat turned off by the vocals at the outset. Some of the music stood out favorably though but I was distracted while listening to it. My estimation might rise with a more attentive listen.

I like the way Talk Talk went about things, and I think Mark Hollis’s voice is great. When it clicks (i.e. Give It Up; Life’s what You Make It; when those those flutes/recorders come in towards the end of Time It’s Time) it’s higher-plane sorta stuff. I want to like the rest just as much, but I can’t get into it. Maybe that would change with more listens, but at the moment I’m finding the weaker tracks quite hard work. 3.5

Swappin’ the synth for the B3. Solid 3+

Ye I liked it but probably wouldn't listen again just because of the sheer amount of music that I like more

Meh.

Very cool 80s pop album. It kinda sounds like Duran Duran or Tears for Fears to me.

Only heard ‘it’s my life’ before by talk talk. Maximum 80’s vine but I liked it.

Some good songs

80s adult contemporary, oddly enjoyable, a bit yuppie but it has a nice groove generally. Layered harmonies, a touch of subtle synth, just a bit of guitar distortion. Just feels a bit American Psycho that's all

It was ok. Can’t really remember the detail but it didn’t grate when listening

It was fine. Good production and easy to listen

A mix of art rock and pure pop. Though it's 80's the sound isn't. This could pretty much have been made now - who would've thought they'd become smack addicts and then produce even more brilliant records? Best Tracks: Life's What You Make It; Living In Another World; Give It Up

It's okay, not my jam but I guess I get it.

It's very polished and well produced, and definitely better to listen to than their synthesizer-based music, but it's a bit too melodramatic for my tastes. 3 stars.

Not bad

Alright. Probably won't listen ever again

A but forgettable

Very 80s

quite close to a 4 but felt a bit forgettable

Not as brilliant as their moody magnum opus that followed. When they hit their muso peak, they lost their audience, but this has hints of the magic to come.

Good album with easy listening songs, very 80 style. Not completely my taste of music though

Of course I’m more than familiar with Life’s What You Make It. I love the vocals, but I’m less particular to the build up of the record. Maybe if I had listened to it earlier in my life, at a more impressionable age, I would have thought more of the album.

It was OK but not remarkable

In theory I should love this band. That's lot to like and admire and yet however much I've tried, they've just never clicked. Maybe one day?

Talk Talk are a funny one - I've either really loved their songs and think they're really interesting and creative, or they're really quite aggravating. This album didn't do much for me I have to say, could probably benefit from another listen. I think the second half did improve

Some of the songs were a bit weird but I liked it okay.

Really started off beautifully, then kinda turns into nice background music.

I’m a bit bummed this wasn’t the album with “It’s My Life” on it, but this was pretty good!

Baby, life's what you make it Don't backdate it Baby, don't try to shade it Beauty's naked 3/5

Nice. Not outstanding but I’d like to listen again.

Easy listening. I really like the sound of this album. It didn't move me too much overall though.

I liked it but not enough to buy it.

I don't know exactly how to rate this after a single listen. This could be a grower but for now it's just a 3.

Things I really like about this but vocals don't resonate with me.

Pretty good art-pop, but pretty forgettable too, and my god is it slathered in 80's production tropes.

EIGHTIES

Pop. Un poco a aburrido.

I enjoyed it. I don't think it's a genre defining or outstanding album but it's a quality album. 3.5 stars.

Apparently Talk Talk invented trip hop in 1986, but no one noticed until DJ Shadow ten years later. Like the sparseness and the jazz elements, and 'Life's What You Make It' is wonderful, but doesn't really feel great as an album. Might have to put a bit more time into it myself, but right now it's a high 3.

I had this on in the background while I was focusing on work, so I don't have many nuanced things to say about it. Regardless, I enjoyed it simply because I like this type of 80s music and the general sound of it. The guitars on the second half of the second track stood out to me.

yeah okay

I dig it, but not absolutely hooked - 3.5?

Carino, godibile.

its hard to point to anything from this album as noteworthy it has interesting parts and not but it all blends together

I listened through twice but it was just a very plain rock album from what I could tell. Some songs were especially slow. Debated between 2 and 3, but I'm just giving it a 3 because I don't want to have to listen through again to see where the moderately interesting parts are to justify 3 stars.

pretty standard new wave album i feel like it just goes on where "it's my life" left

chill background music

Sort of moody and ominous, and interesting to hear the transition from their earlier synth-pop albums towards the experimental post-rock sound they apparently have on the next two albums. I enjoyed it, but 80s stuff is rarely a favourite for me.

Definitely one of the more interesting New Romantic bands. This album had a lot more shades than others of the era.

I'm confused, the album is called 'The Colour Of Spring' but the cover looks autumnal. Likewise, traditionally spring is light and airy, yet the music is dark and foreboding. The music is quite good, creating a moody soundscape which sounds both organic and synthetic. I especially enjoyed "April 5th", which has mellow vocals and a great organ sound. On the downside, I struggled to understand any of the lyrics and overall, although it tries hard, something didn't quite gel for me.

Pleasant enough in the background, occasionally something will lift it into my consciousness but it's never sustained

Eminently pleasant as background music; full of hits; I didn't really notice when it went on to Spotify autoplay and kept on churning out 80s synthpop, though, so I wasn't gripped.

This album is one song chopped up into separate tracks. Leaves no impression. Good or bad, tomorrow forgotten.

A rather boring and unspectacular album. No song stood out and everything on this album has been heard many times from other artists

Some fun new wave, probably wont come back to it though

7/10 Best Song - Life’s what you make it

The first song was fantastic but the rest didn't really grab me. Hints of greatness here and there, and it marks a big transitional period to their next two (far superior, yet somehow not on this list???) albums

Very cool! I especially like all of the choir parts, which really add to the epic, echoey, new wave 80's sound. They were certainly experimenting here, and I appreciate that.

This really surprised me, I didn't know what to expect as it's my first time hearing this band and this album. I do have a penchant for 80s acts that write somewhat "cheesy" music but take it really seriously and they appear to fit that bill. Pros: - Great mood shifts in the music. The first song really is blowing my mind with the incredibly interesting layers. The piano starts to shift a pretty "grey" sounding track into happy and sad areas by just changing a few chords- then meandering- then going back to the "grey" and neutral mood. When the children come in in the chorus and sing the callback I was really impressed! Really unique all around. The name of the album is The Colour of Spring, and it's got me thinking about how true they have stuck to that idea and theme. Spring is of course the idea of awakening / rebirth / beauty / change. Across the album I can hear ideas that to me sound like "a fresh start", but I can also hear the rainy days that you get randomly scattered throughout Spring. If I have any critique it's that the vocals are a little low in volume in the tracks across the album. This might be purposeful as there is definitely a focus on the wide instruments. My standout tracks were: "Happiness is Easy", "April 5th" and "Living in Another World". Ultimately I really enjoyed this album. There wasn't a single track that I was bored with, and having a first song that starts out with some really cool mood changes along with instrumentation/voice changes made me have this feeling of "anything can happen" which continued throughout the album listen. Even their more jam-y songs, like "Life's What You Make It" was still interesting throughout. I LOVE the piano that comes in around 2:20.

i enjoyed this album! it was a nice listen. i was expecting more synth in their new wave, though. i wouldn't call myself a huge fan of this album as a result. it was very beautiful and wonderfully crafted, don't get me wrong. but i couldn't get super into it. i did realize, after i saw steve winwood played the organ on several songs, that this album has some real winwood vibes.

This album was really interesting. It had a lot of the typical 80s new wave qualities, but they really seemed to experiment here, playing around with the "limits" of what typically defines new wave. Particularly of note, there was a lot less synth and a lot more complex instrumentation. For whatever reason, new-to-me song Living In Another World particularly stood out; I went back to listen to it multiple times. It is just so masterfully composed with various layers of instrumentation, genres, effects, and vocals.

decent new wave type album with a great vocals and melodies

A fine piece of 80’s new wave pop. Not the strongest entry by a very good band. Still worth a listen.

need to re-listen to get it more

They have the sound that use to be really cool back in the day. As far as aging well goes, this is neither the best nor the worst. When the album finished, Spotify’s algo flipped me to Wang Chung’s Dance Hall Days. There’s a band I would have never thought about again. I could probably say the same about Talk Talk but it was a fun listen in a nostalgic way.

I'm in the process of packing so I didn't have much time to listen to this. I like the guys voice and they're definitely a Roxy Music influence.

I don't always know what to think about art pop bands. This album is good, and there's clearly a lot of craftsmanship involved, but it also leaves me feeling a little flat. 3/5

Popcito ochentero, mucho sintentizador.

I liked the mix of acoustic and electric guitar. At times it seemed like the bass, guitar and drums were playing different genres. Favorite songs - I don't believe in you, Life's what you make it

I don't love this, but I'd much rather listen to this again than either of the albums that followed it.

It was alright, don’t need to hear it again though I bet my parents would like some of this

Son los de It's my life, y otras canciones conocidas.

Good but not as good as Spirit of Eden

This is ok, mostly sounds like a b-grade Icehouse to me though. Has a few moments where it gets up, but also lots of mopey introspective stuff. I think this deserves a 3 overall - 1 for sounding like Icehouse, 1 for the occasional song that rocks, 1 for being new wave that doesn't piss me off. 3/5.

Očekivo sam da će mi bit super, a ono 🤧 nit smrdi nit miriši

Nice to hear this band outside of "It's my life". Overall it didn't register that strongly with me, but it showed a little more breadth to them and their sound was overall pleasant and not too dated.

Some songs were 4/5. Overall album was just kind of on in background though.

None of these songs stood out for me. Decent overall. Liked the last 2 minutes of the finale song with the recorders coming in, that was unexpected

If this album were a punctuation mark in the history of albums it would be a single comma, not all commas, just one - but a very pretty one at that. It's not game changing but it's a lovely listen - it's unique and it does have one transcendentally beautiful song in it's listing - 'Life is What you make it'. Enjoyed this one, enjoyed the space in mix in each of the songs - enjoyed the arrangements - and it does lend itself to multiple listens. But it's not a seminal album.

The Colour Of Spring is the third album of new wave band Talk Talk. It contains the hit singles "Life's What You Make It" and "Living in Another World". I must say the rest of the album is not that interesting and the nasal voice of Mark Hollis gets on my nerves after half an album.

They have a unique sound, I will give them that. It is just a bit blah as a whole though. Intrigued, but not yet impressed. Interested in their larger discography as it sounds like they made some significant shifts in their sound between albums.

I like Talk Talk's final two albums: "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock," but I am largely underwhelmed by this one. It's a transition point for them, only hinting at the nearly genreless direction they were about to go in. This one's just kind of there and doesn't really grab me even after repeated listens.

very generic 80's sound to me, not too terribly distinctive.

its a cool yet very different sound for sure

Some pleasantness here, nothing jumped out.

Solid album. Nothing particularly noteworthy track wise. If I didn't know this was Talk Talk, I probably still would have guessed based on the vocals.

Really clean sound but can lead to tedium

This album was fine, nothing I didn't like but it didn't stand out to me. Nothing I would save and listen to again, and but I wouldn't turn it off if it was on.

Easy listening but not very inspired

Good tunes

Not bad, a few weird choices in the name of being experimental, like kids singing background vocals but overall enjoyable.

Strong Crowded House vibes, and a bit of a jolt when Life's What You Make It popped up out of nowhere. Overall, inoffensive and pleasant enough. Fav new track: Happiness Is Easy

I was never a big fan of Talk Talk's, even though I didn't mind its music. This one's not bad at all, yet I can see why, generally speaking, Talk Talk has faded away from public awareness more than some of its eighties compatriots that seem to be back on the public's agenda (for some odd reason or another).

Although I do enjoy Talk Talk's music, it needs to be in doses. An album of the same, unadventurous vocals is too much.

Not feeling this one right now. Could be where I'm at in my life or something. The vocals just didn't hit how I feel they should have. Which is why I'm gonna recommend this one to my future self. Maybe it will feel different by then. We'll see I guess. Eitherway it's decent, just feela like I should like it more.

Talk Talk is a band that I really, really need to listen more. This is a great album, it's got some nice melodies going on, plus all those grooves that these guys were well known for.

Opvallende, mooie hoes.

Not bad throughout. Nothing standing out to make this album amazing. Do really dig the vocals

Didn’t grab me.

Interesting!

Seems at first blush to be a synthesis of soft rock and baroque pop. I dig the instrumental palette. However, there are few hooks otherwise and the songs are subtle enough that I feel going below the surface is necessary. There did seem to be some symmetry, perhaps mirroring the cover.

Wasn't what I was expecting it was far more introverted than I expected talk talk to be

Interesting intermediary sounding album between new wave and more experimental post rock sound of their later stuff. Some cool instrumental flourishes throughout.

I like this

Yeah noice

This upbeat, new wave pop album was interesting to listen to and had all types of sounds and instruments. It seems to represent the 80's well with its unique flair and improvisation skills in the studio.

More like background music. Didn’t really pay attention

It was okay. Maybe it gets better with time. 3 stars

Time It's Time неплоха. I Don't Believe In You

How are all these songs like 10 minutes long? I like it, but I like it at a tight 3 minutes per song.

again, nice but middle of the road and no need to re-listen

Nice enough but they have better long players

Sophisticated indie pop from a time and age of cheesy synth pop and radio oriented sugary tunes. Only for that the band deserves a hats off. They did better records before and after though

Interesting

It was ok, didn't really stand out.

Flojillo

sometimes reminds me of roxy music, but it doesn't really come close to that level of musical genius. it's fine, just a little repetitive, i guess, for my tastes.

Some stellar Talk Talk on here, but too many misses to listen all the way through

Good album, heard some 90’s sounds coming through.

Quite alright. Life's What You Make It is the highlight here that even got a cover which was way more popular but oh well, that's how life works I guess.

Kind of a nice lackadaisical album.

I liked this one, so well done to these guys.

Not too much my cup of tea. Reminds me quite a bit of Depeche Mode, late 80s synth stuff.

Pretty solid. You can see the influence on Radiohead they had.

I thought I was going to like this one. I know "Life's What You Make It" and "It's My Life" (not on this album but it's the only other Talk Talk song I know) and will happily sing along if they come on in the car. But listening to the whole album has forced me to ask myself: do I actually like it? And the answer is "no," I just have nostalgia for being 12. The only reason I can see for telling someone they need to listen to this is to remind them of how fucking dour and depressing the mid-80s actually were.

New wave but boring

My favorite part about this was the moths on the cover

So 80's. Didn't do anything for me

This was an interesting vibe! I thought the first few songs didn’t hook me as much as the Give It Up toward the end. The singer had a very interesting voice, Michael McDonald esk. Liked a lot of the instrumentation too they chose too. Very unique. Don’t know why I didn’t LOVE it, think that there’s a lot of space in the music where I felt that not much was going on, so maybe slightly lackluster of an album for me. Very happy to have been exposed to this one regardless!

Absolute slog to get through. One long boring song.
