Reviews (page 4 of 13)

Solid, but not entirely for me. I do quite like the percussion and can see myself coming back to this on the occasional occasion

A real classic that can't he[p but make you feel good

Have listened to songs before, but new as an album to me. I didn't realize how much of this was written by Bowie. Not quite as good as The Idiot. 0 songs added to playlist but thoroughly enjoyed.

A weird and intriguing rock album. It has a very simple and straight-ahead sound in many ways, but it also has a very shady and detached tone that colors everything in a whole different vibe. Accessible, but with plenty of layers. I liked it.

clásico! grandes temas que quedaron en mi mente para siempre.

This whole album sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday, and if it was, it would probably sung by Julian Casablanca or Cameron Winter, if that says anything about who it has influenced. The title track is a fun interpolation of the Bo Diddley beat and has probably been ripped itself a thousand times. Other songs are great but few are as memorable as The Passenger, which Siouxsie and the Banshees absolutely nailed. Bowie's presence is appreciated and never overshadowing, definitely a solid listen, but never a record I had thought of going back to.

between a 3 and 4

*Great rock-pop album

Decent, some songs super weird though. Album art shows him being pretty old yet he’s singing about sweet 16s and young girls. Yikes.

I'm shocked it took me this long to listen to this album all the way through. Great album. Reminds me of a long drive on a summer's night with the windows down. Just something so satisfying about it. "Successs" was my favorite track.

Very catchy and energetic. This album is just fun to listen to, I enjoyed it much more than I expected. Sixteen has some weird lyrics, however the beat is so good that it makes me forget how creepy it is. Neighborhood Threat and Tonight are two of my other favourite tracks. All bangers throughout.

Pretty good!

I liked this a lot more than I expected. Only ever heard their stuff in passing, only song I was really familiar with was The Passenger, but this album does carry a prestige that shines through. Consistently good, will be listening again.

1970-luvun lopulla Iggy Pop oli huonossa jamassa. The Stooges oli hajonnut liiallisen huumeidenkäytön seurauksena ja miehen tulevaisuus musiikkialalla näytti epävarmalta. Iggy sai kuitenkin David Bowiesta tärkeän tukijan ja ystävän. Kaksikon yhteistyö tuotti tulosta; vuonna -77 ilmestyi Iggyn kaksi ensimmäistä sooloalbumia, joista jälkimmäinen, Lust for Life, valikoitui kuunneltavaksi tälle päivälle. Lust for Life edustaa tyyliltään enemmän Iggylle tyypillistä särmikästä rockia, kun taas sen samana vuonna julkaistu sisarteos The Idiot muistuttaa Bowien saman ajanjakson kokeellisia albumeja. Bowieta kuitenkin kuullaan taustalaulajan ja pianistin roolissa. Albumi sisältää Iggyn soolouran parhaita paloja: Trainspotting-elokuvaan ikuistettu nimikkobiisi sekä ikimuistoinen The Passenger. B-puolen ylipitkät Turn Blue ja Fall in Love with Me latistavat tunnelmaa, mutta kyseessä on silti kivenkova klassikko, vaikka kokonaisuus ei olekaan täydellinen.

Iggy's first 2 solo albums are as big a part of the legendary Berlin Years as Bowie's trilogy. Everything Bowie produced for someone else was the best material those artists recorded IMHO. This album has Iggy Pop's best individual songs but I feel it doesn't hold up as well as an album compared to The Idiot. 4⭐️

Album très très cool, avec une bonne cohérence musicale. Tonight est géniale

574/1001 2026.03.19 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

The sixteen song its weird af but this album has BANGERS 4.3 & 5 FO SHO

3.75. The drums are just so propulsive on the title track (and really most of the album).

I liked

I listened to this one just after finishing "Highway 61 Revisited," and was surprised by how little of a gap there is between the sounds of these two albums. I mean, obviously Iggy is Iggy, and the distortion is cranked and the drums sound like "When the Levee Breaks" in comparison to Dylan's band's lighter touch, but I'd never appreciated how bluesy and tempered some of even the louder songs on this record were. Also, it's worth noting I'd never heard the full record before, but found that I already knew five of the nine songs from other contexts. I love the, "Oh I didn't even know this was an Iggy Pop song" moments -- they so rarely happen to me since I first heard the whole Beatles discography -- but it was news to me that "Success" and "Tonight" were both Iggy Pop songs. I've heard and loved both before, but didn't ever look into who sang them. That said, there are three tracks on here that I was very meh about, and one that I actively disliked (looking at you, "Turn Blue"), so I can only justify 4 stars even though I LOVE the majority of the record.

Now this is more like it, rock with some actual flavor to it. Never listened to an entire Iggy Pop album before, and I really enjoyed this one. Fun grooves, risque subject matter, and good guitar work; kind of like a softer punk record. I was unsurprised to learn this album was produced by David Bowie, it definitely has that feel. I liked all the tracks except ‘Turn Blue’, that was a little too weird for me. I would definitely listen to this record again and want to hear more Iggy Pop deep cuts. Add this to the long list of artists I’d rather listen to than The Who. 4/5

New found love for Iggy Pop in the last year and bought this vinyl. Love his stuff

Good! I really enjoyed this one.

Great production

Straight 70s funky fun. Plus collab with David Bowie?? Yeah, it's 4 stars from me.

Pretty solid one, I just avoided it cuz I don't like the cover Will I listen to again: 95%

7 - GOOD

Cool album

The Idiot by Iggy, corroded with Bowie, is my favourite. The psychic and exciting approach on that album is just amazing. While this album is great, it's abit to poppy for me to have it on the same level. Still thats not a major criticism, as I like how this one is too. The Passenger is my all-time Iggy favourite.

A rough album -- not that it's bad, far from it in fact -- that encompasses the hedonistic yet nihilistic nature of rock and roll.

A really good glamy album from The Stooges frontman Iggy Pop. I love the backing vocals from Bowie on some of these songs and the instrumentals are also very energetic and lyrically it falters at some points but still a really good listen 8/10 Favourite: Lust for Life Least Favourite: Success

Turn Blue had some amazing depth. Overall, the album was fairly decent.

Pretty great tbh. Good songs and good performances. I love Iggy’s voice — here you can start to pick up on that deep warble that it turned into in later years. In general I feel like the energy of the album reflects the title and cover, it’s ebullient and brash and winking and funny. I would honestly listen to this over a handful of Bowie’s albums. It’s not perfect, but it’s a blast. Must-listen #306.

Way better than I imagined it would be, better than the Stooges albums ive heard, better than the other iggy records. Good

Love the title track and The Passenger, really liked a lot of the rest of the album, point off for Sixteen though yikes.

Started out super strong, I was happy to have a straightforwardly enjoyable tune out of this thing for once, and then immediately got flung headlong into a song about hot sixteen year olds....rough one! I did still enjoy this and my extended listening session of other Iggy Pop albums, but it was really funny whiplash.

A wild & personal ride of an album. Felt as though Iggy (& David Bowie) both put everything they had into the album. Especially their honesty with how they viewed life at the time. Loved that the albums songs, Like "Sixteen" & "Fall in Love with Me", challenged me. "Some Weird Sin" & "Passenger" felt like they connected with us the most, especially with that relatability of being secondary to someone elses control on a journey. "Turn Blue" is one of those songs that you love because it is haunting. Felt both celebratory of life & the loss of it while also treating the event of an overdose as what it is, tragic. Will have to listen to this album once every now & then as it cut me deeply.

Egész jó volt

The first couple were a bit much for me. Really liked some weird sin on. Tonight especially was nice. I thought Bowie may have sang that.. he didn’t, but he cowrote it. The tangled webs we weave

Fantastic! Songs I knew but didn’t realize were his. The Passenger is the best

So cool. Wanted to dance to it all the time, don’t recommend for studying.

really enjoyed this album and the vibe. turn blue was my least favourite.

This album sounds fast more modern than it is. Maybe it's the vocals? I spent more time wondering what microphone Iggy was using than I have ever spent thinking about microphones before. Also, he's got some weird fucking lyrics in here. I prefer the Stooges, but this is excellent, too.

I was only familiar with two songs on this record, so I'm glad it came up. I enjoyed the ride but didn't find a ton of discoveries on this record besides Success. Really enjoyed that one. This is a soft 4, but I would listen again.

IP is a walking piece of beef jerky who seemingly never wears a shirt, but (and?) he does good work. About 1/3 of these didn't land for me, but the rest were excellent, especially the propulsive title track. I'm going to go watch the beginning of Trainspotting now, and maybe Repo Man for good measure.

i liked it

Genomgående starkt album. Iggy är kung och allt blir rätt.

Probably Iggy Pop's most complete album with the standards "The Passenger" and "Lust for Life", as well as famously providing the drum beat in "Nightclubbing" that Trent Reznor sampled for use in Nine Inch Nails' "Closer". On this album Iggy finally found the perfect marriage of punk, glam, art, and pop rock genre sweet spot. Already in my collection: "Lust for Life" and "The Passenger"

Sadly really good for what it’s about

One of those albums that I didn’t realize was the influence for so many iconic songs.

Great album. A classic.

Groovy 19?! The fuck, Iggy LALA LALA LALALALA

Now tell me. Who doesn't get excited about Lust for Life?

Loves a bit of Bowie. With added Iggy energy. Going to give it a 4 as I enjoyed it more on second listen. Some Weird Sin, Tonight and Turn Blue were the stronger songs (discounting the 2 well known ones). Not so keen on Success.

Another one I dip into from time to time..Passenger and L4L duh...but also Success (song du jour for car rides after securing Another Over 40s title...) and Fall In Love With Me (footstomper!)

Obvious biggies aside it’s a solid album throughout. Swear I picked up Bowie on backing vocals. Maybe I was listening to hard for him.

Best Song: Lust for Life This was pretty good. The title track I had known since the movie Trainspotting came out in the mid-90s. The rest follows suit, not as good but good nonetheless. I will have to admit by the end of the album it was beginning to morph into background noise and I found my mind wandering more than other albums I've listened to. 4/5.

Infelizmente, o álbum me perdeu em algumas faixas específicas. A maior ofensa foi com a canção Turn Blue, que é infelizmente também a faixa mais longa do disco. Achei ela bem torturante, e até cheguei a cogitar pular ela. 4/5

yea i liked it

Wir laufen ein in Düsseldorf City Und treffen Iggy Pop und David Bowie

Album Review 064 Lust For Life by Iggy Pop (1977) Rating 4.5/5 There has been so much written about Pop and his dear friend David Bowie’s work and lifestyle around this period. The pair, with other collaborators, moved to Berlin to get sober outside the glare of public life and to indulge themselves in the culture of the city. What they created is the stuff of musical legend: Pop’s The Idiot and Lust For Life, and Bowie’s Low, Lodger and Heroes. In March 1977 Iggy Pop released his debut solo LP, The Idiot; a dark, paranoid work of genius reflecting the lows that Iggy had reached. His follow-up, a mere 6 months later, couldn’t be more different in that it was optimistic, cheerful and accessible. Although it’s still characteristically sleazy in its themes.

Wow this was a pleasant surprise. I never really cared for the Stooges but this is a great mix of Iggy’s rawness and a lusher musical approach. Four stars.

Wunderbar und Schöne Musik mit Tonalität und ich habe nicht mal gelesen das es Iggy Pop Ist

Great songs, just been on so many adverts that it’sa little overplayed. Sounds very modern

I enjoyed Lush for Life and The passenger. I loved the bluesy feel of Turn Blue. Overall, solid album. I had heard of Iggy Pop but had never jammed him.

Maybe my favourite solo Iggy Pop album. Outside of the big singles, the album tracks are some of his best (Tonight is a personal favourite). Yeah, just really good stuff.

Sceptic at first, but very nice discovery !

"The Passenger" is on my Lifetime Playlist (my personal Greatest Hits), but "Lust For Life" always felt like it was trying to hard to court some pop success... so right off the bat, my opinion about this record is mixed. Thankfully, this record leans more towards the former, with the notable exception of "Success" which sounds like a Rolling Stones cover built for mainstream rock radio. Despite Iggy's influence on creating punk rock, he's not really making punk in 1977, he's still just kind of doing the same brand of hard rock he was doing in 1973. If you weren't aware of his history, you might even consider calling this post-punk. You can even hear a little bit of plastic soul in the vocals on songs like "Fall In Love With Me" (thanks, Bowie!), or maybe it's an attempt to mimic Jim Morrison as I saw someone else theorize. I think the effect is the same, and you're attribution of intent probably depends on your general opinion of Iggy. The more I learn about Iggy Pop’s history the more I get a creeping suspicion that he was more of a puppet than a proto-punk genius. Who is Iggy Pop without David Bowie? I suspect the answer exists somewhere in his discography, but I haven't gotten there yet. Regardless, their collaboration gave us some pretty great music on both sides and probably inspired an outsized portion of the records in my collection.

Well he's a punk rocker yes he am

I like the vibe

8/10. Favorite tracks: Lust For Life, Passenger, Neighborhood Threat

Really nice

Punk yet melodic. Iggy is an icon, creepy, but relevant. He goes just as hard at 78 as he did in 78. Didn’t want to like this one as much as I did.

I was only familiar with the title track. Great, fun album! Just as much Bowie as Iggy.

Solid throughout

The passenger ken ik wel!!! Best leuk album, wel voor herhaling vatbaar!

Here comes success

okay.. the guitar riffs so crazy

Each song has a very different vibe, so it doesn't really flow as an album. But I really like each song. Some could easily fit in well with indie Noughties band like Hives etc al, so it's fab to recognise the Iggy influence. The backing vocals for Lust for Life always amuse me, and I found out today one of the chaps is Bowie. But of course! Also amused by the big grinning Iggy album cover.

Really cool album, nice sound. Lots of Bowie on it which is always a bonus

This was a great album. Consistent beat all the way through. Fun for my workout. If i could give it 4.5 stars, I would. 4 stars for now but it is so early, i may bump up to 5

Quite a flex to have Bowie as your backup singer and keyboardist.

Like this album and Idiot but there is some differences between the two, this one is more straightforward, fun and some times LOL funny. Idiot is darker, deeper, raw and interesting.

Although nearly ruined by a certain cruise commercial, this album holds up surprisingly well for a litany of Freudian trips, slips, and falls. Iggy Pop is a very charismatic singer, but I have to give a lot of credit to his collaborators for vaulting him to his status as one of the greats. David Bowie is, of course, all over this album, even if his contributions as “band keyboardist” don’t exactly make or break any tracks. In contrast, Carlos Alomar’s guitar work drives much of the album, and I continue to develop an appreciation for the magician behind some of my favorite records.

Makes me want to dance around my living room in nothing but skinny jeans. I think what I like most about Iggy Pop is his versatile voice. I love the crooning side of Iggy (Turn Blue). Even with that song he ads some yipping. From start to finish this album is riddled with tracks that make sense to my ears. The mix is good, I understand each song and hear each musician. It’s a great example of what an album should be. Most of that credit goes to David Jones. If Bowie didn’t have his hands in this I really don’t think the album would be as good. Sorry Iggy (but I’m sure he’d be inclined to agree) Interestingly enough, it’s the previously referenced song (Turn Blue) that prevents me from giving this album a perfect score. That and “Fall in Love With Me” are too long. I think “Lust For Life” gets away with going over the 5 minute mark simply because of its message (and the drum fill of course)

David Bowie, mas mais voltado pro rock feliz. Mucho very nice. Ouviria de novo com certeza.

Album sounds even better now, raw and powerful.

Some music makes a splash and the provides a subtle influential undercurrent for the next several generations. With Lust For Life you can still see the ripples above the water. The title track has been samples several times over and has been reused in film and commercials, along with The Passenger, for decades

Y'know, I never listened to this album all the way through. Most of it is excellent. Some of the more meandering blues tracks start to lose me a bit. But, man does it sound great. I will return to some of these songs for sure. 8/10.

Lust for life, The passenger는 이미 듣던 노래. Turn blue나 Fall in love with me같은 노래는 앨범 전체의 완성도를 위해선 필요하다 싶기도 한데 갑자기 느려지는게 답답함. 다시 들으면 어떻게 들릴지 모르겠지만…

Iggy and Ziggy in a Berlin studio producing a variety of post-punk positivity. The title track will forever be associated with the film Trainspotting, which fittingly portrays heroin addition that plagued Pop before and after L4L.

Solid, super fun album. Will definitely listen again and again and again. I can tell this one will continue to grow on me.

For most of my life, I had written Iggy off as nothing more than a shirtless, coked up weirdo who happened to sing. BUT, I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. This record was really well done. Fantastic grooves, excellent musicianship, and Iggy's voice sounds really good.

A much better fit for Iggy than The Idiot. The raw energy and more hook driven tracks suits his artistic expression perfect. It's fun and memorable. Lust For Life and The Passenger are just great songs. Best song: The Passenger Worst song: Turn Blue Cover check: Probably the only normal picture I've seen of Iggy. Sober and happy

Great album, awesome sound! 7.3/10

I'm struggling to rank this one. It's groovy and fun, but lacks any lyrical content or emotional weight. Would I actively want to listen to this album again? Ultimately I have to say yes. It needs more time to digest but has kept my attention through a few listens. One of the weaker 4 star albums so far but I'm okay with that. - GREAT drum intro. Swingy and wild but still tight - A bit underproduced. That's gonna hurt the ranking. Is this like a punk precursor? - Positive vibes so far. Kinda angsty beach boys, kinda pop-punk - Wandering through the middle. Does this have the quality to get a 4? - This one really has me thinking! It's fun and groovy but lacking any sort of lyrical punch.

fav song from the album: The passenger

Can't decide between a 3 and a 4. On the one hand, quite a few of the songs are bangers. The Lust for Life song is just amazing. Passenger is great, and there are others as well. On the other hand, some songs are filler, and there is the Iggy Pop depravity throughout the album which can make parts hard to listen to.

Somewhat inconsistent, and you can really hear where Bowie's influence was more present. Still, between the Iggyisms and the Bowieisms it is still a great ride.

7/10 09.01.2026

Nobody told me Iggy Pop was bop after bop. Proper boogie material I loved it.

Not many would pick a summer in Berlin with Bowie when trying to detox but thank god he did Each song feels well crafted - lots of thought and love in each track. Finally an album where it feels like a jam being recorded that does not dissolve into a hot mess - looking at you Big Brother & The Holding Co and Hendrix

I like the title song

People saying you can hear Bowie like it's a bad thing.

Un gran clásico, atrevido y con estilo. Desgraciadamente ningún tema logró cautivarme a profundidad.

Good stuff.

Lust for Life is a classic. Sixteen seems a little out of time (troublesome). The Passenger is an all time best song. Overall a great album, though I don't feel like it flows as a full album.

Really enjoyed it

αρκετά ευχάριστο στο άκουσμα. σου φτιάχνει την διάθεση. ήξερα μόνο το the passenger

If you would have told me this was released in 1996, I would’ve totally believed you. Without Trainspotting, I don’t know how many people would have heard of this. One of the best, most appropriate soundtracks of all time. Renton channels Iggy and never has a soundtrack better accompanied the filmed source material.

Fingle

Bowie-esque and obviously influential. A good listen.

Oh, how I loved this album! I will listen to this over and over, it has such a great vibe. I will also listen to Iggy’s other albums now!

Just so much fun. I definitely need to give it more listens to fully comprehend everything, but as a first listen I just had a great time.

8/10 - very good album, not overrated and deservedly on this list

Love of a bit of Iggy - this album is great!

Very good album, 2 very famous songs I knew about. Very good song writing through out, rare for me I preferred the second side to the first

Always happy to listen to Iggy Pop

Think I remember not enjoying ‘The Idiot’ as much as I thought I would, but maybe this is more in line with what I was expecting. Obviously, very strong start. This is much more what I expected and much more up my street. Enjoying it on a surface level, but feel there is much more to get my teeth into too. The relatable lyrics, the pull, the passenger, some weird sin. One of those albums where I am ready to listen to it all over again as soon as it’s finished. Close to 4.5, but not sure 😣

So viele tolle Songs, dass ich mich gar nicht entscheiden konnte, welche ich jetzt besonders gut finde!! Mag die David Bowie Berlin Referenz, weil BERLIN?!!!

Better than expectations, enjoyed this

Rock on

I think a significant part of this score is just based on the strength of the Passenger. What a song, what an album.

already heard

You can definitely hear Bowie's inspiration in this album. This is my first true Iggy Pop listening experience and I enjoyed the album!

Z biegiem albumu tylko gorzej ale dwa największe hity na samym początku trochę rekompensują. Czuć styl ala Bowie.

Favorite track(s): Lust for Life, Some Weird Sin, The Passenger Heard before Previous rating: 8/10

Really enjoyed this, OOZES Berlin Trilogy swagger .

Collaborating with Bowie, David's influence can be heard thorough most of the track arrangements. However, with more control over production than his first solo album, Iggy's straight-ahead style shines through. Oh, if only Royal Caribbean knew the true meaning of Lust for Life. Iggy probably got a good laugh every time that royalty check came in the mail.

Some mega tracks that you hear all the time but don't realise they come from this 50 year old album.

Probably my favorite Iggy Pop. Some great tunes, but a little inconsistent.

Very good reading music or background music!!! 👌

Co written produced by David Bowie, during a remarkably productive Berlin period, and fracturing (future Tin Machine) rhythm section Tony and Hunt, this is a proto punk effort with 2 stonewall classics on it and a couple of tracks (tonight and Neigbourhood threat) that ended up on Bowie’s awful Tonight album 7 years later.

First off, Bowie’s fingerprints are all over this record and that’s a great thing. POP’s energetic vocals are a strength. Lust for Life and The Passenger are my favorite tracks, with the latter an all-time favorite. Always think of the Trainspotting soundtrack when I hear the tune Lust for Life. Also a good thing. All around, an excellent record that showcases Pop’s and Bowie’s strengths as post-punk artists.

Makes a ton of sense that this album was produced by David Bowie. Lots of songs in here that I have heard before and enjoyed, but not very cohesive as an album other than a common sound. Much much better than I had expected. Favorite Songs: Lust for Life, The Passenger

Bra variasjon, kule låter, gode tekster. 3-4

Great album that is simultaneously rooted in pop, rock and punk.

i vibed with this, considering i only knew of iggy pop from superman....im glad to know he makes other music. it kinda gave bowie at some points and i love that 8/10

One of the greatest songs of all time - "The Passenger." Apart from terrible attempt at blue eyed soul ("True Blue") that drags itself to the finish line the rest of the album is solid-to-great. "Neighborhood Threat" especially. The lyrics of "Sixteen" are gross in 2025 (but the riffs!).

Second album in a row that came out of Iggy Pop and David Bowie moving to Europe.

3.67/5 Stars Top Songs: Success, Tonight, and Passenger

Stripped down guitar and a drum, The Passenger is amazing how it pulls you along. Instant Iggy.

This was a very good album. Consistently catchy

Love this guy. Love his collaboration with Bowie. Love this album, though maybe his image on the cover even more than any individual song. Nah, I love "The Passenger" more than the photo, who am I kidding? But in the end I have to give it four stars, I think. There's just too much clowning around for me to say it belongs up there with Abbey Road, Ziggy Stardust, or even a Stooges album. I like it best as a moment in the story of Bowie and Iggy and Berlin, not so much as a moment in musical history. And that's okay. "Here comes Johnny Yen..."

You can bear Bowie's influence all over it but that isn't a bad influence to have. Great arrangements, great performance, catchy songs; really good second album.

4 stars, this is a lot different than I thought. Can hear the late 70s vibe much more in the non hit songs. A lot more variety

An album by a pervert for perverts

The hits on this album are easy 5 star songs, but the rest of the music didn't do enough for me to give it a full 5.

Surprised by this one. I expected the rock and roll swagger but not the more interesting layered instrumentation. Then I saw Bowie was over production and it all made sense.

It’s Bowie. Now it makes sense

Lust for Life the song was well known for me, but not the rest of the album. Was decent, can definitely hear the David Bowie now that I read that.

I forgot how good “The Passenger” is

I really enjoy Passenger. Lust for Life is obviously great. The rest of the album was good. Probably won't make it in to my heavy rotation, but a solid album.

Great album and songwriting.

Overall, a solid album. Sometimes, simplicity works best

It's a well known fact that Iggy and Bowie were 'hand-buddies', providing each other with mutual 'relief' from the 'stresses' of stardom, touring, and drug excess. Which is fine - nothing like a mouth-gift to start the day. But their love would infiltrate each others music, which is a problem when you claim to be a unique punk lad. At least this album is more raw and rock than the previous. It has all the hits. It's more punk than experimental faff. Less glam shite. Less brass nonsense. A big shot of Stones style Blues rock. It simply must be mentioned how terrible all of Iggy Pop's album artwork is - truly atrocious. It must 'also' be mentioned that Lust For Life is basically the same song as Walking On Sunshine. Identical intro, pace, rhythm. All guff out of the 'way' and this is a damn fine album. I like this more than, or at least on par with, the Bowie albums I've enjoyed.

The original stroke!

More enjoyable than I was expecting based on previous Iggy Pop experiences. Some cool tracks in there, particularly "The Passenger" which is an ear worm. I like the general style of the album, it has a rawness and a certain type of open expression about it. I have previously criticised Iggy Pop for sounding too much like a Budget Bowie. I think that was less the case here and this Iggy felt like an artist in his own right, albeit heavily influenced. Certain tracks, like "Neighbourhood Threat" still had the stamp of Bowie all over them, however. An album with some good high points and I wrestled with my rating for a couple of days and listen throughs. I think there might be a 4 star album hiding in there, so I will be generous for now and continue to relisten.

Iggy Pop’s Lust for Life is an electrifying journey from start to finish, perfectly blending the raw energy of Stooges-era punk with infectious, Bowie-infused pop hooks. With David Bowie himself contributing keyboards and backing vocals throughout, the album pulses with a unique synergy—gritty yet undeniably fun. From the moment the title track kicks in, Lust for Life grabs your attention with its driving rhythms and rebellious spirit. The album doesn’t let up, serving up track after track of high-octane rock that’s both aggressive and melodic. While “The Passenger” stands out with its hypnotic groove and singalong chorus, every song here is a banger, showcasing Iggy’s charisma and Bowie’s pop sensibility. Whether you’re drawn to the punk edge or the catchy melodies, Lust for Life is a wild, enjoyable ride that never loses its momentum. It’s a must-listen for fans of both artists—and for anyone looking for an album that’s as fun as it is fierce.

Pretty good!

Yea I dig it.

My two year old son loves it. Great pick me up album.

There’s so much dumb, horny, disreputable swagger here. It’s great. Lust For Life doesn’t have the sheer force of Iggy’s work with The Stooges, but there’s plenty of energy here, and a bunch of great songs. “Neighborhood Threat” is particularly excellent. I gave this a few listens today. I should note that some of this really hasn’t aged well though. I’m listening and writing this in November of 2025 with the Epstein files in the headlines and songs about lusting after teenagers is not it. Iggy Pop was far from the only musician writing songs that wouldn’t pass today, and as far as that goes, “Sixteen” isn’t among the worst of them. Still, even while acknowledging that music like this isn’t about having an upright moral character (and nor should it be!) it’s pretty gross.

Another showing of Raw Power from Iggy Pop, this album is a tour de force of sloppy garage- and glam-inflected punk riffs amped up to maximum. Of particular note are the title track and The Passenger!

Queens Of The Stone Age, anyone? 4/5

this album kicked down my front door slapped my headphones off my head and said "hey stop listening to those mid two and three star albums and listen to a real four star instead." and it's like, yeah, thank you for finally showing up and giving me something to listen to that's unquestionably good and an unquestionable classic but we could've done that without the violence... i don't have a front door anymore... think my headphones are under the couch or something... c'mon man... highlights - lust for life, some weird sin, the passenger, success, fall in love with me

Another case of an album slipping past its own moment - one pressing, sold out, and then gone - only to grow into its reputation later. Pop and Bowie were on a creative tear here, and you can hear both of them sharpening each other. The Doors-style pulse running through parts of the record just makes it hit even harder, for me.

Great stuff. Not punk, not arthouse, a bit more polished than the Stooges. Bowie production of Iggy >> Bowie for me.

Classic Iggy album, some great tunes.

Would have been a 3 except LFL and Passenger and both amazing songs

Some iconic songs, but two somewhat cringy ones as well.

Good production, rock-driven and cool. I enjoyed this album, and once I learned that Bowie had something to do with, everything clicked in to place. It could honestly be a Bowie record instead. Not even the questionable lyrics in Sixteen could make me sour of this album. I can’t really put my finger on why this is good, there is nothing particular about it, it’s just a bop all the way through. Giving this a solid 4.

really enjoyed this one! i knew i would love iggy pop based on similar artists, but didn't know he did the passenger (which i fear i definitely should've known). i am a big fan of the 60s-70s rock scene anyway which for sure made this slightly biased.

I like this one, too bad it was ruined by some dang cruise line.

Very good, but I would say, "not great"

That was consistently good. The Passenger is one of my favorite songs.

Good stuff.

Evil Iggy Pop be like: I'm Piggy Op

Lust for Life und The Passenger als Hits, Rest auch guter Mood, sehr gelungen

This whole album rocks. Big fan. Highlights: "Lust for Life", "The Passenger" and "Neighborhood Threat"

High 3/Low 4, really enjoyed it.

Pretty fun!

Genre: Garage Rock In what truly was a Bowie passion project with a close friend of his, Lust for Life by Iggy Pop is a really great album! Big time Bowie style glam energy, similar vocal stylings, with a bit heavier approaches with the guitars. Some very good tracks, and certainly this would’ve been a great play at a party or social gathering. Really enjoyable listen start to finish! 4/5

Fantastic album, save Sixteen, which is unfortunate for several reasons. You can tell that Bowie was a writer in this, a lot of Bowie influences.

Vibes: 4/5 Instruments: 3/5 Production: 4/5 Emotional Value: 4/5 Storytelling: 4/5 Stand Outs: Fall in Love with Me, Some Weird Sin Overall Rating: 3.8

Awesome album from Iggy Pop, Lust for Life rocks 🤘

найс, но особо не слушаю его.

One of those albums that I probably should have listened to start to finish a long time ago. Glad I have corrected that mistake.

Didn't fancy but really liked 4+

8/10 Favorite: The Passenger

I thought The Idiot was a good album. Not something I would necessarily get excited about revisiting, but it was a worthy addition to this book. I really enjoyed Lust for Life. More than I enjoyed The Idiot and even up there with some of the 78 Bowie albums I have reviewed from this book. Everyone knows The Passenger but I didn't know that I knew Lust for Life as well. It's easy to hear David Bowie on background vocals as well. His voice is very distinct. It's obvious Tonight was written by Bowie, as the song is a David Bowie song that Iggy Pop performed. Fun album and I am adding this one to my collection. I always thought Iggy Pop was more of a metalhead-type of artist and didn't know he did glam or post-punk like this. My favorite tracks were: Lust for Life Sixteen The Passenger Tonight Success Neighborhood Threat

Not much to say

Great record but not as good as The Stooges records

this is my First time listening to Iggy pop ever!. as a first time listener i now understand who his name are one of those names you know remember but you don't know who is the person behind it. Iggy pop style truly express the American sound. the high energy on almost a punk rock but above rock. somehow feels like a post-punk rendition from someone who didn't listen to post punk. but i cannot give a 5 star due to i feel like im not really mind blown by this and listen to this every day. just a good album to discover

I'm generally a huge fan, but I like his earlier stuff with the Stooges better.

Such a great record. Sounds like the band is live in the room with you. The energy is what really sells it.

Great instruments and Iggy has so much personality. It was great to hear Bowie's backing vocals too.

120/1001 Iggy Pop - Lust for Life Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ It's not my favourite Iggy record, but still really enjoy it whenever I put it on. There's Bowie's fingerprints all over this album and elevates it all. Lust for Life and the Passenger still absolutely rules.

First Iggy album I've listened to in its entirety, ft. some heavy handed production from David Bowie. This record comes off quite a bit like a Bowie record, which is amazing. Most songs are longer than they need to be, but that's alright cuz they've got the groove, baby. This was way more pleasant to listen to than I was expecting. Very musical, melodic, good structure and flow and energy throughout. Might just grab myself a vinyl copy. 4/5

I usually care for the cultural staple of Iggy more than the man himself. For his contributions and his movie soundtrack hits. That said, this whole album is pretty solid. Not great but solid.

Titular song is best but The Passenger is an existential crisis with a catchy hook. Also, did Green Day co-op that hook for 'Holiday'?

Loved it, especially the well known tracks.

A terrific, punk infused rock album with great tunes and great attitude. Iggy Pop's "raw power" is channeled through David Bowie's songwriting and production magic when he could do absolutely no wrong. The combination works magic.

Това е сигурно най-добрият албум на Иги Поп и за това ще му дам заслуженото. ПП: така и не разбрах тия с Боуи били ли са гаджета или не :D

An album very much influenced by collaboration with Bowie, with a number of tracks you can imagine being sung by him. Still it contains the standouts of the title track and the passenger, which push this to a 4 star rating

Favorite song!

The Passenger still goes hard as does the title track. You can definitely feel the Bowie influence. Enjoyed this one.

Solid rock album that's full of energy right out of the gate. You can definitely hear Bowie's influence on many of the tracks. It's not the most consistent album but it has some fantastic songs like The Passenger and Tonight.

Pretty standard 70s rock/punk fare. Obligatory songs about sex, drugs, and rock and roll are present and accounted for. That said, I quite enjoyed it, maybe because I love this style of classic rock. "Turn Blue" aged horrendously(fetishization of African Americans? Really?) as did "Sixteen" (obvious reasons).

Cracking album. What stood out for me was the number of tracks that got a new life via covers, reworking and film.

Yeah, pretty good this.

Great stuff

The best Bowie album yet. Really enjoyed it it, will definitely listen to it again and it could go up to a 5

I like it!

This album bursts out of the gate with so much energy it’s almost impossible not to get swept up in it. The title track alone is such a rush, all pounding drums and sneering vocals, like a shot of adrenaline straight to the system. It sets the tone for a record that feels raw, wild, and completely alive. There’s a looseness to it that makes it sound like a band having the time of their lives while still being razor sharp. What I love about Lust For Life is how well it balances grit and melody. Tracks like “The Passenger” have this hypnotic, rolling rhythm that lodges itself in your head, while songs like “Tonight” and “Some Weird Sin” carry a kind of swagger that’s both sleazy and charming. Iggy’s vocals are rough but charismatic, and the production has that perfect late 70s bite that makes everything sound huge without losing its edge. Listening to this album feels like being invited along for a chaotic, slightly unhinged night out, but one you’ll remember fondly the next day. It’s punchy, memorable, and full of personality, the sound of Iggy Pop fully hitting his stride. There’s no pretence here, just great songs played with conviction and a wink.

Easy listening

I initially gave this one a 3 and said it had an even mix of bangers and filler. I've relistened a few times since then (a clear indicator that I was wrong all its own) and now I've returned to redeem myself. This album fucking rips. (4.5/5)

interesting and better than expected

Never listened to Iggy Pop before and this was eye opening

Much better than I was prepared for. If I'm not paying super close attention, I'm pretty happy with it from beginning to end. If I am paying attention, some of the tracks can get a little long and/or pedobear. [4]

Definitely hear the Bowie influences and participation. Good album and glad to listen to it!

Love me some early Iggy!

Great album

Didn't know Bowie wrote on this

i quite enjoyed this. 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great fukin record! Never listened to it front to back before. Love it

Off the cuff remark: depending on your age you may feel the title track and it's use on Trainspotting wore you down, but still I think that is a fabulous track, likewise I absolutely love The Passenger. There are bits of enjoyable humour and what I hope is just rock n roll daftness. Standout tracks: as above both 5 star songs Revisit?: if I need a little fun and swagger, why not?

Some Epic songs.

The Passenger is an A+ song. The rest of this was really good too.

enjoyed it, could hear a Bowie influence but thought the vocal style was very Mick Jagger. Really good listen

This sounds more Bowie than yesterday's album... which was Bowie. Enjoyed it.

Probably will never listen to this album again, but i had a great time listening to it

Classic album. Enjoyed getting to hear it.

This was a good time! I very much enjoyed it and recommend it! One of my favorites from this era of music.

Thanks for an enjoyable listen you sweating lunatic

Great weirdo energy and my favorite Iggy Pop record

really good! yay! would relisten to a couple, overall good. feeling a 4.5.

Great album, really enjoy this one and Iggy's other solo album "the Idiot"

Familiar territory. The Passenger is usually hanging around in my playlists.

Makes me want to do something stupidly nonsensical and reckless. I can feel a lust for life growing in me. It’s making my heart explode. My head is exploding. I’m gonna go out on the street and do anything I want! I’m gonna do the twist! I’m gonna hop like a frog! Exactly how this album made me feel. My favourite tracks were Success and Sixteen. Easily a four star album.I can say I officially have a lust for life.

Pretty good. Lust for Life is iconic. I also liked Turn Blue.

Passenger for Life

I’ve not had much time to gather my thoughts on this as I only listened this morning but I really enjoyed that listen! I knew the big two tracks coming in, _Lust for Life_ and _The Passenger_, both of which I liked before hearing this. Only thing to point out is that the song _Tonight_ reminded me of his song _Gardenia_ from _Post Pop Depression_. I don’t know if that’s just from the use of the word ‘tonight’ but it felt melodically similar too I’ve not had chance to compare back though so moving on… will definitely return to the album though!

Iggy is great and it makes me want to watch Trainspotting and do heroin

4.1 // In the 70s, punk was kind of just pop. And that’s awesome here. Very fun songs, and a couple classics. Iggy’s gonna Iggy

Lust For life. The true meaning of punk music. Rebellion and liberation.

Like Transformer Lust for Life has a nice wonkyness that creates some good songs. I think the average song on Lust for Life is better although the highs aren’t as high. The guitar parts are really fun. I can very much hear Bowie’s influence, but that def isn’t a bad thing. Standout Tracks: Some Weird Sin, Tonight, Neighborhood Threat 5/5 deserves to be on this list

Awesome.

Classic album with his two best solo songs.

Nie znałem go za bardzo wcześniej, przynajmniej poza radiem itp. Dobry jest, może zacznę słuchać

See, this is what I was hoping for when I got The Idiot early on. Unfortunately I couldn't stand that album. It had no hooks, was really off putting to listen to, Iggy's vocals felt phoned in. But this album feels like the complete opposite. Still feels very Bowie (apparently also collab'd with Bowie on this, but Pop had more control on this album, which honestly was the right choice after The Idiot), but in the best way possible. Always liked The Passenger (coulda sworn I heard it in an episode of Breaking Bad, but apparently its not in the show), but the rest of the album has the hooks and fun that The Idiot was missing. Great album. It's got a drive and heat to it that feel pretty singular.

Kicks off with an absolute bang, with Lust for Life. The Passenger is an all-time banger.

Iggy is so underrated. Great album.

LfL and Passenger are bangers, the rest is quite good! 3.8

This is the first Iggy Pop album I’ve ever heard, and it’s honestly made quite a great impression on me. Coming fresh off of his previous album, The Idiot, this was a a period of time where Iggy was trying to grow more independent from Bowie in his songwriting, pushing his own Punk Rock, rather than sticking with Bowie’s style of art rock. Of course, there’s some elements of these songs that feels like it wears his influence on its sleeves, but overall this album feels heavier than the average Bowie album of the time. After years of addiction for not just him, but also Bowie as well. It feels like a majority of these songs are rehabilitation for Iggy, an acknowledgement of his previous drug addiction, and a way for him to express his frustrations at this previous point in his life so he can move on. Unfortunately, there are a few pacing issues with some of the songs on this album, going on a tad bit too long, and Sixteen isn’t my cup of tea, souring a bit of the experience for me. Plain and simple though, Lust for Life feels like a therapy album for Iggy in the best way possible. An absolutely monumental album for him that made him stand out much more in the industry, proving his potential as a solo artist, rather than making it seem like he’s been riding on the coattails of Bowie’s involvement in the studio.

I'm surprised but I like it.

many famous songs on this album

This so much more bowie than "The Idiot" and I love that. Besides the handful of sus lyrics this is great all around

Didn't want to listen to the title track due to it being played to death in a cruise commercial and a car commercial years ago. Want to ruin a good song? Give it to a car company, they'll fuck it up. Thought it was an overall good album. Turn Blue was mostly terrible. Anyway, this is every review written about this album: Ohhhmigod! You can totally hear the David Bowie influence! David Bowie! David Bowie! DavidBowieDavidBowieDavidBowieDavidBowieDavidBowieDavidBowieDavidBowie You can totally hear how Bowie influenced Iggy on this album! Pedo Iggy Pop!

Cool album, more laid back than the Stooges. Can definitely hear Bowies influence on the album. Lust for Life and The Passenger two all time great tunes,

Great album. Way more accessible than The Idiot (i still like the idiot more tho), crazy they came out the same year. Fave song: Passenger Honorable Mention: Lust For Life

Every song felt great and the whole album had great flow. Also, the instrumentals are just on point. Favourite Song: Fall in Love with Me Honourable Mention: Some Weird Sin

fucking sick but needs another listen. could be 5

Enjoyed! Actually loads better than I thought (the passenger & lust for life), thought he might be more punky and less rock. Weird there are 2 famous Iggy’s in the world.

Solid rock album with guitars and vocals front and center. Drums keep everything moving.

I am a punkrocker, yes, I am.

Hell yeah, Iggy rules.

Good listen

Punks great grandfather is still killing it. Its a bit classic for my tastes but the passengers js a perfect song. The variety of vocal infections is pretty impressive. I can hear some frank black sometimes and even on the closer I hear Julien Casablancas. Its good classic stuff. Every song is enjoyable. Just a good old school time. Wild dude is still trucking along today

Solid album, couple of all time great tracks in The Passenger and Lust for Life

Listen this Iggy Pop album helped me see his connection to his peers, Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger. I also heard the hint of the future of Bowie's work.

This was a great listen. I didn’t realize so many semi-familiar songs, especially from television commercials, came from Iggy or a single album. I’ll be back around for another listen.

Great album! Only ever heard the hits but it was good all around and learned something new about it!

Full of energy. Great album

I’d heard “The Passenger” from Breaking Bad and loved it. Really great album.

Was cool

Surprised I’ve never listened to this one since I’ve heard The Idiot a million times. This one gives more of a early 70s Lou Reed energy where The Idiot felt totally new. The last few lines of Success are hilarious. This is a really good record, nothing groundbreaking but anything Bowie rubs up against turns to gold.

I am biased I am a big fan of Iggy

Bangers after bangers. Shout out the stooges one and all

Another triumph of the Berlin era. You can very much hear the Bowie influences but it is lifted up by Iggy's unique vocals.

Great record! I had always heard that Iggy Pop was a disciple of David Bowie, but this record really demonstrates that. Great song after great song!

Sex, drugs & rock'n'roll... and classic upon classic. Iggy's magnus opum.

Very ahead of its time. The lyrics aren’t great in places, but the music and arrangements are all fantastic and have aged very well. I love the very obvious influence that David Bowie had on this album. The album’s energy is infectious on most tracks, and the slower moments are all effective. 4/5

Best album of hers!
