Legend

Fantastic early punk. De riguer listening for all fans of punk and garage rock.

Obras maestra

Me gusto mucho muy buen album

Loved it.

I mean this as a compliment: this record sounds like Iggy Pop doing killer covers of David Bowie songs. This was a brilliant collaboration. Both artists really brought out the best in each other. 5/5

My dad use to play this album on occasion and I am familiar with most of the songs, but I never properly listened to it until today. And honestly, I really enjoyed it. The Passenger and Lust for life are definitely the best tracks on here. I did not even know that David Bowie produced and sang in it. My mum will be shocked that I was completely unfamiliar with this fact. I have also listened to some albums of Iggy and the Stooges, and they were definitely ahead of their time. This was where punk music was born, and it is all thanks to the big man himself Iggy Pop who is 78 and still going.

This is a pretty great album. Standouts obviously the title track and "The Passenger", but really, the whole thing is enjoyable. Love Bowie's backing vocals too. Some dubious subject matter but unfortunately that seems to be par for the course with seventies albums.

I am a passenger.

Iconic stuff really isn’t it. Lust For Life might be one of the best running songs of all time. The Passenger is one of my favourite tracks and a stalwart of the THPS game soundtracks. Turn Blue is a mental song. Bowie’s influence on this record is noticeable but Pop remains front and centre and has one of the coolest voices in music. 5.0/5.0 I want to ow this record rn. Best Song: Lust For Life

What a corker of an album. So many bangers, 1977 but it feels so modern. Punk had only just come in, and here was Iggy doing his own mental thing. Hard to pick a favourite song but Fall in Love With Me is an outrageously good song.

fantastic album, tonight is one of iggy’s best songs

i love me a rock album

The Passenger is just an iconic song. Iggy Pop’s voice throughout the album is mesmerizing. Guitar and drums also hypnotic.

such a classic

I need to listen to more Iggy

En total klassiker! Jämn, välproducerad. Fantastisk sång rakt igenom. Och ovanpå det The Passenger, the banger of bangers. En femma

Iggy Pop – Lust For Life (1977) On Day 89, I feel like I got blessed. This is a definitive masterpiece where the production smoothly blends with the vocals to create a truly immersive experience. Even though I don't share the artist's specific struggles, the delivery was so relatable it felt like I was right there in the room. "Turn Blue" is a standout and a "conscious" speech-driven track so good I didn't want it to end. "Success" is a moody classic, and "Some Weird Sin" is a great sleeper pick alongside high-energy anthems like "The Passenger" and the title track. You can really hear the influence of Bowie's production style throughout. It’s a great body of work that I will definitely be coming back to. A definitive 5/5.

muuuuuuito top visse

My love for this album is irrational--how many times have I thought "Jesus, this is Iggy" over the years? The first five songs kill it--so much fiercer than The Idiot.

Goood!

HOLY FUCK!! Who knew two guys "in recovery" (while still behaving quite naughtily) could put together such an album!! It's Quite Wonderful, 9/10. (Why do I like it? Energy - tunes - arrangements. Punk, without threat/aura of violence.) (Why didn't I give it 10/10? Doesn't quite reach all the places like eg Sufjan Stevens does - I'm a bit of a hard marker, got to keep something in reserve.)

one of the best albums with one of the worst covers

it just rips, man. no misses

Lust for life always makes me want to get up and do the Charleston This is so dope, every songs percussion is so jumpy

genuinely shocked he is, but so happy iggy is still with us. required listening for anyone looking to know the soubd of punk fully realized. and (no pun intended) pop jam goodness to boot.

This album is an absolute classic, a mix of Iggy Pop's proto-punk sensibilities and Bowie's production genius to create something that has been a part of my life for years. It has some of the best songs in rock/pop history (The title track and Passenger), and is a culmination of Bowie's 70s sound that I think hits higher highs than even some of his albums. It begs to be listened to again and again. Now, despite all this laudatory comments, the album isn't perfect specifically Turn Blue which is too long and does not fit the feeling of the rest of the album. But besides that, this album is amazing. I've been listening to it for over 10 years, and I'll continue to listen to it long into the future.

9/10 Lust for Life and The Passenger are two of my favourite songs ever, so this is a top tier album. Feels very cool, with a strong swagger.

Absolute peak of Iggy's career as either solo or with The Stooges

The journey through the 1001 albums naturally reveals certain breaks in music history. What I find particularly exciting at the moment is the diversification of rock music in the 1970s, which led to the parallel existence of stylistic devices from what were actually successive eras. “Lust For Life” is an excellent example of this: the music actually wants to move forward and break out of familiar patterns, but it cannot deny its roots in the 1960s and repeatedly incorporates elements that, from today's perspective, one might expect to find in folk rather than punk rock. At the same time, the band refrains from using a denser mix that would be more suited to punk rock, even though this was already available in terms of production technology. As a result, the sound is always on the verge of disintegration, especially in the wilder moments. The crowning glory of this “I'll show you tomorrow, but with yesterday's means” is the totally naive yet iconic cover, which I would rather associate with a folk pop singer-songwriter. Nevertheless—or perhaps precisely because of this—the nine songs around the title track and “The Passenger” were stylistically influential for the punk movement, and here and there you can already hear London calling.

So some people just have a knack for making music.

This album is epic.

What a great album. Everyone knows the couple of big hits on there, but the rest of the album is brilliant. Some absolute underrated bangers. Very very enjoyable listen.

Absolutely loved this. Already knew the headline tracks but will add everything else. Was not expecting his vocals to be as good. Could hear a bit of how Happy Mondays, Strokes and even The Cure might have been influenced by this and obviously a bit of Bowie in there to

I've had a lot of 70s albums recently and while I like a ton of classic rock, not many of the albums I have had over the last two weeks have been very good. This was, however, I fun album to visit. I hadn't really heard any of these songs before so this was basically all new to me, though I am sure the title track has been used in commercials previously as there were some sense of familiarity with this track. I really enjoyed listening to it fully for the first time, just a fun track of a dude rollicking through the world. Great stuff. Sixteen was a good track, just not as good as the title one. Things kept moving in the wrong direction with Some Weird Sin, but then picked back up with the Passenger. This was bordering on something you might have heard from a Jim Morrison, it had that type of feel. Really liked this one. It kept going with Tonight, which had an excellent flow to it. I have to say, for someone known as The Godfather of Punk, Iggy Pop really had more of a melodic bent to him, at least on this album. Success was probably more of a return to the punk type of style, or at least got closer to it. Not my favorite, probably because I am not a punk fan. But this wasn't bad though. Turn Blue . . . yeah. Not sure how to react to this one, as it was a considerable departure from others on this on this record. It's totally crazy, but it works somehow. Neighborhood Threat is another song not like others on the album. Frankly, this could have fit very easily into mid-90s alternative, which is a space that I love. Translation, I dug this song, making it the 4th one I captured from this record for my own personal playlist, which is probably 4 more than I expected. Fall In Love With Me is back to that Morrison type of feel, at least for me. Another good track and an excellent closer. Make that 5 in the library now. What's funny is that, as I have listened to this, I have had this nagging feeling that this sounded like something Bowie might have done in the 70s. Frankly, I thought I was crazy for thinking this, since Bowie is so revered. But now, I am seeing that he collaborated with Bowie on this record, which makes so much sense now (and reassures me that I am not insane). Never knew, as I've never bothered to listen to or explore anything that Iggy Pop had done. All summed up, this type of album is the type of thing I was hoping to find in this journey - i.e., something I never would have heard anymore, but was original and enjoyable. It certainly elevated my appreciation for who Iggy Pop is and what he is capable of doing. And I ended up downloading more than half the album. While I am stuck squarely between 4 and 5 stars, I am moving to 5 despite it not being a cover to cover listen for me, mainly because of how totally unexpectedly great this is.

This album has a special place in my life and I can't review it objectively.

The Passenger deserves 5 stars just for that one song. Everything was made for you and me ❤️

MY FAVOURITE THING EVER love this album with all my heart love Iggy love the energy love the sound! Although I was familiar with some tracks, I was introduced to the whole album through trainspotting and not only is it an amazing record it's also a mind-blowing soundrack. I listen to "The Passanger" regularly when I need to go on some side-quest alone and it always feels like a movie. Every song is a statement. AND THE LIVE VERSIONS!!!! Iggy is an absolute legend!

Absoluter banger. Showed the diversity that Iggy could produce. Just a great album

Perfect album

supongo

Such a great album. Let’s skip Tommy’s girlfriend’s birthday party for his concert. I found this album right after booking the Trainspotting revival movie. What a coincidence!

Absolute Punk. 5 *

Fire album

2 classics in a row! I bet the guy with bad taste hates this one too. He does!

Wow. Knew of Iggy Pop but nothing from Iggy Pop. This is awesome Best Song: The Passanger Rating: 9/10 Stars: 5

I heard most of the album before but was definitely a great listen.

Album 1028 of 1089 Lust For Life - Iggy Pop (1977) Rating : 4.5 / 5 This is one I’ve been somewhat familiar with for years, and it’s always been an album I’ve enjoyed. Sitting with it again, though, I came away with a stronger appreciation for just how solid it really is. What stood out more than ever this time was how present David Bowie is in the DNA of the album - both in the production and in the overall feel. It gives the record a polished edge without sanding down Iggy’s personality. The result is an album that feels focused, confident, and purposeful. Iggy sounds fresh and clear here, very much at the top of his game. The writing is sharp, the performances are strong, and the production ties everything together nicely. While I wouldn’t call it a perfect album, it’s one you can always count on to deliver. It holds up extremely well and remains an easy album to come back to time and time again.

Classic

Joyous.

Absolute Banger

A classic! Brilliant Album influenced by the greatest of all time!

A nice opportunity to listen to something through properly

Holy David Bowie vibes. I could tell Bowie was part of this before even reading it on wikipedia. I have always loved the hits from this album, but after hearing it all, I loved it all. Turn Blue was a little weird, possibly some race issues in there for a modern audience... but overall something I will think about for a long time.

Kein deepen Vocals, dafür sehr geiler Sound. 9 Songs/40min Top 3: 🥇: Tonight 🥈: The Passenger 🥉: Success HM: Lust for Life, Neighborhood Threat, Fall in Love With Me

that was so fye. Like did not expect it to go as hard as it did. My one qualm is there could be more guitar.

A really funny song

This was SO GOOD! It’s like… well balanced? Scratches an itch in my brain. Dare I say it’s like the best parts of Bowie distilled and concentrated? Iggy I was not (that) familiar with your game!

Iggy Pop at his finest. Yes, there's still some of the Bowie energy that the entirety of The Idiot was powered by. 'Tonight' is especially Bowie-esque. 'Sixteen' is creepy, but if I stopped listening to every artist who sang about the barely legal my 70s playlist would be nearly empty.

Solid listen

Love this stuff. The single is still my favorite

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5/5 IGGY

The B-side knocked it out of the park for me.

The original careless, upfront, cheeky punk attitude and sound

Bowie and Iggy at the peak of their Berlin powers, producing two stone cold classic tracks and an album full of gems.

What a joyous collection of songs. Lust for Life is such an appropriate title, the whole album oozes charm helped in no small part by David Bowie's inclusion. I didn't notice him until around halfway through the record, but listening back through the front half his influence is clear. I also see the building blocks for so many acts that I listen to in this record, I really enjoyed listening to it.

Choose life.

Classic

Starts off strong with lust of life, and does keep going. This is in some ways easy music with straightforward guitar and drums. But it's very compelling, and having some strong hits definitely pushes it upwards. I am a sucker för this style of slightly more musical punk. Feeling a 5 here. This was one of the first albums on the list so far which contributed a previously unknown track to one of my main playlists with "Some Weird Sin".

ahhhhmazing album.

We all know the opening track from Trainspotting but imagine its 1977 and you are hearing this epic song from the godfather of punk for the first time. Definitely a “wish I had a time machine” moment. I thought this new wave album would be very “shout at the top of your lungs in a monotone” type of affair that I hate about punk but it is beautiful, deep and wonderful. Though perhaps that is due to the fact the Bowie wrote the tunes and he is a genius. I will be buying this in any case.

I love iggy pop

The very definition of a timeless classic LP, I listened to this so many times thinking that sounds like David Bowie singing. It was David Bowie singing! Love it

So 1977 was a year. At first, I thought it was the year of Iggy Pop, what with the release of The Idiot and Lust For Life. Note to self: listen to The Idiot. But then I see Bowie put out Low and "Heroes." You had the debut albums of Peter Gabriel, Television, The Clash, Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, and Sex Pistols. Exodus, Aja and Rumours came out. If you could only listen to one year in music, 1977 would not be a bad year to pick. "The Passenger" first came to my attention via the cover by Siouxsie and the Banshees. I also listened to The Jim Rome Show back in the day, which liberally employed the "Lust for Life" intro. For all I know, it still does. This is the first time listening to the album Lust For Life and I must say, I like it a lot. It probably lies between a four and five for me. But I am happy to award it a five with the nostalgia and connection to 1977. Oh, yeah, there is one other thing that came out in 1977: Star Wars.

Great album 3 bangers and no skips

Yeah, it's a 5/5. This album is great from top to bottom, no filler tracks, just great, albeit bare, 70s rock'n'roll.

Faultless ❤️

Not my first listen through of Lust for Life, though it's been a few years. Always love Iggy's range and charisma. Endlessly provocative as he oscillates between punk sneer, freaked out vocals, and then dropping into a Bowie-esque baritone all over heroin shrouded blues rock. The Bowie influence is audible on just about every track here, and Iggy's flair carries the album. His willingness to explore is so fun. Great performance top to bottom and musically more ornate than you would think for a guy who started in proto-punk and is known to self-mutilate on stage. Love this album.

Loved this. The Bowie influence is obviously present but less overbearing than on The Idiot. Vibes here are impeccable. RocknRoll, sense of humor, pacing all great.

Genius

Stellar. 5/5

Loved it. Listened to it again straight away. Echoes of Transformer by Lou Reed. Best Bowie contribution so far.

Not my kind of style, but what a legendary album. Has to be a 5.

Loved listening to this again, a very accomplished album

A blast. This is how I was my rock and roll. Loud, lewd, and loose. Banger after banger. All killer no filler. All hail Iggy!

Old, great, iconic

Awwwwwww yyyyeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh. Here we go. One of my favorite albums of all time. I’ve listened to this thing from front to back many times. If you listen carefully, you can hear Bowie in some of the backing vocals. In 2002 I saw Iggy in concert and it was pretty good. Honestly his band then was kinda meh and kept going too fast (Iggy kept having to clap and stomp and glare at the drummer to keep the correct time). The highlight of that concert for me was at the start of Real Wild Child when I swear to god he was staring right at me during the opening line. That was great but a little unsettling.

Stone classic. Every song is great.

Enjoyed it. Iggy does the grunge better than anyone else.

Loved it

Good one

246/1089 - Love the energy. Great voice.

Repeat listen

Lust for Life - 5/5 Sixteen - 5/5 Some Weird Sin - 4/5 The Passenger - 5/5 Tonight - 4/5 Success - 5/5 Turn Blue - 4/5 Neighborhood Threat - 5/5 Fall in Love With Me - 4/5 Average score: 4.5/5 (rounding up)

the album has a great variation of songs, different pace, different volume, etc. give it 5 stars

I love this album! In the spring of 2025, Iggy Pop came to Japan and I got to see Lust for Life live! A 77-year-old living punk! It felt like witnessing a legendary creature. Absolutely amazing!

The GOAT. A classic. Trying to listen with fresh ears.

When Iggy Pop and David Bowie lived together in West Berlin, four records of sheer magic transpired from this union across a whirlwind 10 months in 1977: two of Bowie's own (Low, "Heroes"), and the first two solo efforts from Iggy Pop: the subdued, somewhat trance-like 'The Idiot' and this raucous record with a grinning Pop on the cover looking satisfied that this new record was a quantum leap forward for him. 'Lust for Life' was produced by Bowie (as was 'The Idiot'), and the strong Bowie influence on this album (he co-wrote 7 songs on this album) brings out a refreshing new side of Pop. Before he went solo, Pop was known as the wild, maniacal frontman for The Stooges, flopping around stage like a possessed demon with a hard-living lifestyle of drugs, sex and mayhem to match, but 'Lust for Life' sees Bowie unearth Pop's sensitive, more humane side. The transformation had started on 'The Idiot', but 'Lust for Life' sees Pop delve deeper into addressing and conquering his demons ('Lust for Life', 'Some Weird Sin'), accepting life ('The Passenger) and making fun of himself ('Success'), before closing the album with sincerity ('Fall In Love With Me') Yes, the Bowie influence adds so much to this album, but you have to give Iggy props for rolling with it. His lyrics are quite deep and heartfelt in places, and his delivery of them proved there was so much more to him than the reckless frontman of The Stooges. There's seriously not much I can fault about this record. The Iggy/Bowie friendship yielded such fantastic music from both artists, and this is a shining example. I will also hold a soft spot for the title track given it opens one of my favourite films, 'Trainspotting.' Top marks for me. This album is brilliant!

An epic opening for an iconic record from an incredible artist. This and „The Idiot“ are Genre defining.

Great record. Full of punk energy. The Passenger is an all time classic.

Iggy is just the coolest ever and it pains me to not give him a 5 star rating. However I don't just love all of this album. Passenger and Lust for Life are superb songs but to many songs on this album just aren't as great in my opinion for me to give this 5 stars

Such an amazing album

How have I never heard an Iggy Pop song before this moment? This was SO good. Just banger after banger after banger. I understand the obsession! I now love him, he stared into my soul through the album cover the whole time and completely entranced me.

01/08/2025 Another album I'm surprised by.

Great. From Bowie's most creative period. Loads of great songs. Lust For Life is amazing and Fall In Love With Me is a new find.

Proper!

Great album. Interesting that iggy wrote the best David Bowie album

It's kind of hard to comment on this album without mentioning The Idiot too. Both are great and I can never decide which I like better. It's also hard to discuss this without talking about David Bowie, he had such an impact on both of these albums. For this album in particular, I feel like the production is obviously Bowie. But it's definitely more of an Iggy Pop album that The Idiot. That album might as well have been a Bowie album with Iggy singing instead. Or at least that's how it sounds. Which isn't a bad thing. But I feel like this album, The Idiot, and Bowie's Berlin Trilogy are all part of the same whole. I love them all. Obviously everyone knows Lust for Life and The Passenger, and that's fair - they are definitely the standouts. But there is so much on this record to like. Iggy Pop was so distinctive with his vocals. Drums sound huge, guitars and bass are fantastic. It's a fantastic record that maybe not everyone will really appreciate but if you're a fan of Iggy Pop or David Bowie you'll love it. 5/5

Mon album préféré de Iggy.

Masterpiece.

'Here comes my face / Out of the crowd.' Lust isn't always very lustful on Lust For Life: something other than a sexual energy defines this record's temper. Iggy takes advantage of Bowie's bold and leakproof production, prompting an experience that is never more explosive than it is composed. If Fun House is the zenith of runaway vigor, Lust For Life is in a sense more straightforward, even tho the musical ideas are more complex, the lyrics more dynamic. Initiated w/ the bang of all bangs, the album never quite settles, but it also doesn't take a sledgehammer to life: 'And when you're tumbling down / You just look better.' That's more respectful than lusty, but then again, maybe it can be both at once. An exceptional record.

This album had more control by Iggy Pop but still collaborated heavily with David Bowie. You have the big hits, which are the highlight of the album, but the rest of the album sounds more like his earlier work with The Stooges. The album is amazing and worth a try. 1. THE PASSENGER 2. LUST FOR LIFE 3. SOME WEIRD SIN 4. TONIGHT 5. NEIGHBOURHOOD THREAT 6. SUCCESS 7. FALL IN LOVE WITH ME 8. SIXTEEN 9. TURN BLUE

the writeup in my copy of the book makes the interesting observation that this record is what iggy was making while punk rock, which he's a godfather of, was getting started in earnest. obviously the same proclivities of stooges-era iggy arent at all Hidden here but through his own evolving sensibilities as bolstered by bowie collaboration, i end up thinking about his past a lot less often then i thought about like, the velvet underground while listening to transformer. he just sounds like a self-existent idiosyncratic wild rock guy on here...totally memorable and cool tbh! i love the buoyancy of the material here, the somewhat uncanny album cover ends up being much more of a compliment than i had expected going in. a wonderful wonderful listen all around..just a great and reckless but still Approachable and Considered display of capital r capital m Rock Music. complete with the sexualization of teenagers! every box has been checked!

Legendary album by a legendary artist. Blueprint for so many punk bands by music and attitude.

in my cursory glances across Esteemed journalistic tentpoles such as wikipedia and the fucking allmusic blurb, it seems that a sort of general consensus is that this record features a Less present David Bowie than the last. now, i haven't heard the idiot, but i found this pretty funny because this thing has Bowie all over it. in song structure and composition—even given my admittedly limited experience with Bowie's music—i was just constantly feeling the man's influence. that's certainly not a bad thing, to be clear. i don't even mean to diminish Iggy's Own influence on his Own album; the guy who Wants To Be My Dog is still definitely here. if anything, it's that melding of minds that's the whole appeal: the ramshackle proto-punker known for self-harming on stage and the careful, calculated art rocker who makes concept albums about aliens or whatever the shit. i like it. i was, of course, already familiar with our title track and the passenger, staples of soundtracks, rock radio, and commercials for, fuckin, i don't know. shaving cream, or something. i’d always had a soft spot for both songs. lust for life as an opener is just a great hype machine; it’s a riff and a drum beat that will outlive every single one of us and continue to sell many an OverPriced Cruise Ship or Vacation Destination from now until the day the fucking bombs drop. the passenger's iconic, for sure. the big revelation of punk, i think, is that soul-crushing ennui feels a lot better when you're flashing a smug smirk. bored and self-assured. it's a pretty striking track. sixteen is about exactly what you'd think it'd be about, and we're moving on. the rest of the a-side is strong too. i found myself getting really into some weird sin and tonight, both of which are extremely Bowie. what a surprise. b-side's good, a lot looser. i like neighborhood threat. gave me a god damn heart attack because i thought it was gonna be don't fear the reaper, inexplicably. nope. there are just so many arpeggios in the world. i got horny for nothing. i promise i didn't take it personally. turn blue is this extremely uncomfortable rambling mess. it's about heroin. a lot of things are about heroin. it's definitely evocative and dramatic and it works in the album. you're probably never going to play just turn blue. you're probably never going to be in the mood to Only play turn blue. kinda the same with the closer, fall in love with me, which is cloying and leering and desperate and horny. i like songs like that. it's not bad. it does say the word "young" ten entire times. it Damn sure does. rock n' roll. you can only shrug and sigh. good stuff, as a whole! i'm glad to get around to it. this is the kind of thing i've seen on best of lists and topsters and last.fm and fucking 4chan dot org charts and All That Crap for years but never actually sat down and listened to, and very likely never would have, knowing my general taste and listening habits. the first example of such a record in this project for me, and it certainly won't be the last.

This rocked

Lust for Life was a big hit...and a way to sell Carnival cruises. Sell out or no, it's a good song. Sixteen is like the Pixies or Dinosaur Jr. ten years before either of them made it big. The Passenger is great. This album is really good. A lot of alternative rock from the late 80s and 90s owes a lot to Iggy Pop and the Stooges. And Iggy Pop clearly owes David Bowie something which is never more clear than on Tonight. Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground too. He kind of sounds like Lou Reed. Fall In Love With Me is another great song, a lot of good album tracks here.

Seriously what an album. Iggy at his peak, Bowie at his peak. Goddamn it, so alive and perfect

one of my favorite records- must find a vinyl

Great energy. The song Lust for Life is amazing. Love the occasional back ground singers. Would have given 4 stars half a year ago, but tend more to 5 now that I've seen him live.

I thought I knew what I was getting into with this one, generally speaking. I didn't know shit! What an interesting record. One of my very exclusive 5-star ratings!

Clasikker

Klassiker

Alt er bra. Alt.

This is makin me wanna run down some random street in Scotland while high on heroin

The second of Pop’s collabs with Bowie and it’s much more Pop than Bowie this time around. Title track is an all time banger, but this one keeps it up through its 40 minute runtime.

I mean this is Iggy fucking Pop and he is collaborating with David Bowie. How could it be bad? . Much more poppy that his work with the Stooges, but there are still songs with that raw energy. Other songs, perhaps do to the more poppy focus have some seriously fun books. I listened to this album on the way to an amusement park with my family, a great way to start a great day.

One of my favorites, during a great era with Bowie. Love the flow of this album and how it never overstays its welcome. Great rock album

Iggy’s best solo record. A lot of Bowie influences since Bowie produced it but that’s not a bad thing.

🎶 Album #1: Lust for Life – Iggy Pop (1977) We kicked things off with a bang—and a Bowie. Lust for Life isn’t just an album; it’s a collision of raw punk energy, existential dread, and glam-soaked swagger. Iggy Pop had cleaned up (for a minute), Bowie was producing in Berlin, and together they created something electric and uneasy. ✨ Highlights + Hot Takes: • Lust for Life opens with that drumbeat and feels like a rebirth by force—manic, pulsing, and unrelenting. • The Passenger still slaps. Eternal. Cool. Untouchable. Feels like watching your life unfold from the backseat. • Success is a sarcastic party anthem, all sneer and cheer, like Iggy’s flipping off the industry with a grin. • Turn Blue drags us into the void—spoken word, despair, slow bleed. A descent. • Neighborhood Threat stalks the alleyways—tense and twitchy with Bowie lurking in the background. • Fall in Love with Me ends the album with a murmur, not a bang. It’s seductive, creepy, and quietly devastating. 📀 This isn’t just proto-punk—it’s a survival album. Iggy clawing his way out, one track at a time.

Amazing album full of raw energy!! Iggy at his finest!

I listened to this album on the return journey from Costco with a trunk full of meats and the backseats were occupied with 7 20L bags of cat litter. What does this have to do with Iggy Pop and "Lust For Life"? Not much, probably. A fantastic album though.

Exciting, lively, classic

Fantastic album. I never really listened to Iggy Pop before and I was missing out. Great album!

Pure classic

here we go. I like Iggy better with Bowie and without the Stooges. a legendary album – maybe I'm biased because I'm a fan of Bowie's sound, but it has several iconic songs and I like the more experimental, stream-of-consciousness Turn Blue as well. and it only gets more enjoyable after a few listens

Titeltrack en "The Passenger" natuurlijk klassiekers.

So seemingly primitive on its surface, this is one of those albums that just haven't been replicated since it was recorded. I'm sure having Bowie at the decks helps, but this is raw atmosphere. A classic.

Every song a banger.

It's Iggy and Bowie, the god & the goat

Great album, tunes and lyrics, thx!

Brother, I need this on vinyl, expeditiously, like the awful hipster that I am.

da da da duh duh duh duh da da da da

This is Iggy at his best with David Bowie producing. I am here for all of it.

Passenger and Lust for Life alone make this iconic - best opening to an album ever? Only another 990 albums to prove me otherwise

Iggy IS punk.

Doesn’t get much cooler than Iggy Pop

This record was recorded quickly and, in the most positive way, it sounds like it. It’s Iggy sounding like his proto punk self, sometimes dark as in Passenger, sometimes brimming with the defiant energy of the survivor beyond the odds as on Lust for Life. It’s more an authentic Iggy Pop record than The Idiot, which was arguably as much Bowie’s project as his. You can hear his musical character and lyrical personality coming across with the kind of raw immediacy that made The Stooges such an important band in punk history. Add the way that Pop is so much more coherent and present than he was on the Stooge albums and you’ve got probably the best work of his career. Heard before, still brilliant!

Old classic from teen years

I'd hit that

Truly is the godfather of punk. Didn't know his game before. Passenger sounds like one of Green Day's songs?

What a great album. I only knew Lust for Life and The Passenger but there were a lot of other really good songs on this album. Another one of those albums that I probably should have listened to before now but had never got round to. I was aware of the Bowie, Lou Reed and Iggy connection and you can hear Bowie’s influence on this just like with Lou Reed’s Transformer album. The Berlin years have thrown up some good listens on this list. Will definitely be giving this a relisten and exploring Iggy further.

This was my first time listening to this album and I loved it. All of the songs were amazing with some particular standout tracks like "Lust For Life" and "Sixteen". Overall, really phenomenal.

Classic!!!

I have not listened to this album in a long time, I forget how hard this album rocks, every track is a banger. Just banger after banger. 5 stars easy.

Excellent album by Iggy. I can definitely hear Bowie's hand in this. Yet it works so well with Iggy's brand of punk. Always a favorite of mine.

Never listened to Iggy Pop before. Delightful. Clever lyrics, great melodies, catchy guitar riffs, and real punk spirit. Great. The producer work of David Bowie also shines through without cramping Iggy's style.

To me, this is a classic, seminal album. It is, of course, a collaboration with Bowie and Pop, but it was also a sort of "comeback" album for Iggy Pop and showed even more range, which has benefited him to this day. It's hard to say where Iggy's career would have gone without Bowie stepping in and without both The Idiot and Lust for Life, but I feel all signs point to "not very good." However, I think every album on this album is great or at least very good, it feels cohesive, and it doesn't outstay its welcome.

Interesting that this comes fairly hot on the heels of listening to his first album. That was a revelation in itself. My mother was always a huge Iggy Pop fan. Soon after listening to The Idiot my mother and I were in a taxi with a Muso taxi driver, and when I told them both that Iggy did the original version of China girl, they were both very surprised. And then my mother broke out into a brilliant menacing impersonation of Iggy doing said song which made the cabbie and me laugh uncontrollably. And then Iggy‘s second album pops up which was always a staple in our house in the 70s and 80s. My mother even looked a bit like the cover pic at one stage with that huge smile and pixie haircut. The songs are so ingrained into my subconscious and each song evokes a memory, even before Trainspotting popularised the title track. I don’t think any of the songs have lost their lustre, although the youthful lust for life that we all had may have tarnished. I’m not sure the whole listening experience is quite a 5 now but for the holistic vibe and nostalgia and that Iggy will always be synonymous with my mother dancing round the room he has full marks.

I've tried listening to this before, but for whatever reason, other than the title track and The Passenger, nothing quite clicked. Until today. Damn I loved this. Bowie's production is so easily identifiable, especially that drum sound he gets. Reminds of his work with Mott the Hoople. The song Tonight had the same bass sound from Heroes. Loved it. This was a perfect blend of Stooges and Bowie for me. Fantastic. I guess I need to revisit The Idiot, since everyone else liked it more than me.

Quite similar sound but each one is slightly different. Upbeat and a good rhythm. The singing style def compliments the rhytnm

Another album with a distinct holistic sound with each track instantly memorable and individual and still serving the whole. Like with the Stooges, Iggy is capable of rocking harder than anybody without cranking the volume or the speed. Masterfully dirty without much obscenity - what is the weird sin? What does it mean to have it in the ear? The imagination runs rampant. Jesus, this is Iggy...

Drum beats to bop to Memorable guitar licks Raucous rocking fun

I’m pretty sure Iggy pop is the shit… kinda punk, kinda David Bowie, kinda weird and original. Top 3 lust for life, passenger, fall in love with me

As the title says.

he used to sing "the passenger" and now the first album that shows up is the one with that song in it..

Iggy is and always has been the clearest definition of what "rock star" is to me. The man exudes confidence and raw power... And this album proves just how effortless his approach to delivering these rock classics is.

Lust for Life completes the perfect yin-yang duality with The Idiot: where the latter dwelled in Berlin's mechanical shadows, the former explodes with solar energy as Iggy and Bowie strike an alchemical balance between primal abandon and artistic discipline, creating a transcendent work where destruction and creation dance in perfect, vital harmony.

Gave me a lust for life

G’wan Iggy! ‘He’s not dead, Tommy saw him last year’ - classic line in Trainspotting!

Why do I like Iggy so much?!

This album is a masterpiece. 3 songs in I was like: "Man this feels like a Bowie album" and I was right. Bowie produced it and wrote most of the songs. And honestly, this may be my favorite thing Bowie has worked on. There are literally no misses here. It's soooo good. Iggy Pop definitely has a similar vibe to Bowie so this works so well. Maybe it's just a little heavier? The entire album sounds like my favorite Bowie songs. LOVED Songs: Every one except for "Turn Blue"

A powerful album in the style of Bowie and drum-focused rock n roll. 4.5/5

One of the true kings of music. Raw and unfiltered. Pure genius

Loved it. Songs produced by Bowie probably means a high rating from me.

I'm just a modern guy

I’ve never felt this alive! I might just run a marathon... or at least sprint to the fridge.

Loved this, tried to get into Iggy pop before but wasn't into it but clearly I started in the wrong place

This is peak Pop! Such a good album. My favorite songs are Some Weird Sin and Neighborhood Threat. Love this! 💕

Yeah nah, Iggy Pop is a fucking sicko who can write some great tunes. This album was consistently quality with the sprinkling of gold. Love it, love his sound and I can't give this album anything less than 5 stars honestly... he is and that was great.

You don’t see too many “reflections on sobriety” like this one. A very aptly-named album that reaches some epic heights.

Masterpiece

What an amazing album! I got so into this. I knew the classic two from this album but other songs totally surprised me, some sounded even Bowie esque. It was so listenable and put me in a great mood. Will give this many more listens.

An absolutely belter. Iggy Pop is awesome. This album is so raw and simple and great. The Passenger is obvs such a banger but it's amazing how simple it is, just the same chord sequence throughout, some great lyrics and a load of la la la la las and it's a classic. Just goes to show how a really nice sounding guitar and some simple chords can just hook you.

Pretty good album overall. The Passenger is by far the best song on this record, but I'd listen to any of it again. 5/5

The album cover is funny to me. It’s counter to how I’ve been exposed toy pop. Shirtless, old, long hair. This is friendly neighborhood Iggy Pop Didn’t know The Passenger is Iggy Pop Some Weird Sin is a great song. I really liked this album

Great album, loved the songs and vibes.

This was a real great album that I should have been far more familiar with before. I have missed out. So so strong from track to track. Brilliance.

"Lust for Life" is one of my favorite albums. It's unbelievable how much energy Iggy has. Together with Bowie, the result could only be a masterpiece.

This is a masterpiece imo. The album really speaks to me. It’s got the core of punk and grunge and emo but all the way from the 70s. There’s a sadness that I just love.

Good!!

Overall was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this album. I had heard of Iggy Pop for sure but could not have named any of his songs. I am not sure any of these really sounded all that familiar either so I think I somehow totally missed him. Struggled a bit with whether to take a star off or not for "Sixteen". I think generally I've been trying to keep an open mind for things being made in the time that they were. I will give it a 5 but I will note that I was not a fan of that particular song. Sound wise though, I did like it. Standout tracks were "Lust for Life", "Some Weird Sin", "Passenger", and "Success". I don't think there is a song at least sound wise I dislike. The whining/yowling in "Turn Blue" is a little borderline but overall the song gets a pass. I feel this is definitely outside of my usual "sound" I go for. That's what I love about this project though! I can feel my taste expanding the more I listen to things.

who knew that the Vorta in that one episode of Deep Space 9 had it in him

Sounds like the animals. Good driving beats but simple guitar, and forgettable lyrics. Important for the trendsetting music for punk music and grunge.

Bam bam bam, bam bam babambam Fuck. Yeah.

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this album as much as I did. I respect Iggy and like his greatest hits catalogue, but after listening to this from front to back I need to do a deep dive. I ended up liking every single song. His voice and lyrics paired with the production and arrangements were so cool. Love it.

A great album. Even the track List for Life is great. The Passenger is one of my favorites. I listen to it again and again. 5/5

An amazing albums, with many tracks I had heard before, without any idea it was Iggy Pop. Many parts of this album were reminiscent of Alice Cooper and David Bowie.....very cool.

With a face like that, how can you rate it any less?

Rocking and Rolling, great band, strong set of songs, Iggy at his most charming on the cover - what's not to love?

Classic punk album that influenced a lot of bands good listen!

The original!

Resuena a Sound and Vision.

Several mysteries circle about the citizens of Wellsville. One such mystery was occasionally spoken of, though carefully, regarding our neighbor James "Pop" Mecklenberg. The seamingly unassuming father of my little brother's best friend. Most believe he was simply a burnout of the 1960s counterculture music scene. But legend would have it that after a series of self-destructive episodes leading to an extended stay in a mental institution, he was once revitalized by a keyboard playing sage-like figure who called himself "The Master of Reinvention". Soon after, Mecklenberg would team up with the children of Soupy Sales to form a new rock band. With "The Master" as their guide, they would find a new, abrasive and hypnotic sound which has been described by adults everywhere as playing a key role in the moral decline of western civilization. The younger generation, however, would recognize this new sound as something that changed the trajectory of rock and roll forever. But the strangest element of this legend? Some say that over time, James "Pop" Mecklenberg developed mutant abilities, harnessing raw power and performing unnatural and unspeakable feats. Now, the only thing strong enough to hold back his powers are his tightly presses button up t-shirts. Some believe he's been waiting for just the right time to unleash his powers again which can both save and destroy.

Fantastically fun album that keeps you reeled in the whole time. 4.5 stars

Iggy Pop was an artist I knew about, but never listened to. This album was awesome.

David Bowie and Iggy Pop equal awesome

4.7 Way too many personal favorite songs of mine on this album not to give it a 5 star rating. Neighborhood Threat is a burner.

It’s wild how this music was seen as rebellious back in the day and now it’s on Nissan commercials and played at sporting events. Just sounds like good ole rock and roll.

Just great stuff. Could sit in a bar listening to this all day.

Hate the album cover, but love the album. The B side really won me over.

The unstoppable Iggy Pop. There is the old saying about the only survivors after the apocalypse will be Keith Richards and the cockroaches but can be damn sure Iggy will be there too. There is an unbounded decadence, depravity and ultimately joy in this record. You can hear the fingers on the strings, the missed kick drums and the sound of songs being written and recorded and served straight to your ears. Though it is not perfect I don't think it ever was meant to be which in turn makes it perfect. No wonder he's smiling

Absolute gem. Incredibly endearing, which is weird for the genre and a lot of the subject matter. Absolutely belongs on this list in every way, shape, and form. 5/5

A bone fide five star classic album. From the most distinctive opening, to the swagger of The Passenger, it's just... Sheer Power. Do your ears a favour, and have a listen.

I love this album. It is punk at heart but wrapped in catchy, driving pop that flows effortlessly from track to track. It feels raw yet polished at the same time. There is attitude and swagger everywhere, but also melody and structure. It is such an easy and enjoyable listen. Iggy and Bowie together were some double act. You can feel Bowie’s touch in the production and songwriting, but it never overshadows Iggy’s personality. The result is sharp, energetic and completely iconic. Favourite songs: The Passenger and Lust for Life Least favourite: None worth mentioning Album artwork: An iconic cover that perfectly captures Iggy’s charisma and confidence

Two exceptional artists, one exceptional album. Even if you don't know about Bowie's involvement, if you don't hear it by "Tonight" you're probably deaf.

Classic rock n roll staple

One of my all time favorites.

Hit after hit after hit

2nd of Iggy's albums released in 1977 and my favourite of the 2 and probably my favourite Iggy Pop album. Packed full of excellent tunes with so absolute bangers, Lust For Life is an iconic track but for me The Passenger is the highlight with that catchy guitar. Let's face it Bowie & Iggy made a great team and anything Bowie did near this time was solid gold so why would this be any different as he produces and has a hand in writing 7 of the 9 tracks.

23/09/24

Full of fun and attitude, Iggy really does just swagger his way through these tracks. Passenger, Success, Turn Blue, the title track... there's just so much personality oozing from Iggy as he shouts and croons his way through this album. Everything is focused towards putting Iggy front and centre and it works really well, but with loads of catchy little hooks. Then you've got Bowie with keyboards, backing vocals galore - and the fact this was wrote, recorded and mixed in eight days (after the two had much success together with The Idiot, Low et al) makes it all the more remarkable - and also make so much sense. It really does feel like things weren't overthought too much and it just feels really natural, and like Bowie's influence really brought out the best in Iggy as the two friends were overcoming their struggles and addictions. Great vibes, memorable songs. 9/10

Choose your future, choose life.

Oh, yes! Even listened to this multiple times, because i loved it! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

🎧This was a terrific listen, and I’ll be spending more time with it. Everybody knows the title track and The Passenger—both great, the latter maybe my favorite Iggy song ever, but everything else here is basically top notch as well. Joyful and irresistible post-punk from Iggy Pop and David Bowie, both at the peak of their powers

Have on vinyl. No skipped tracks, never gets old.

Very fortunate to have seen the great man live not once but twice, a force of nature, captured perfectly on this album

Solid record, Iggy Pop is a gem, not a single bad song on here. Great old-fashioned rock & roll, almost sounds like a live record.

Iggy & Ziggy. Top combination. I have the LP. Love it.

Great Bowie album!

Iggy's finest. Accessible, yet punk rock enough to stand the test of time.

I did not know that Lust for Life or The Passenger were Iggy Pop tracks. Timeless songs, catchy and featured in Tons of media decades after release. II hope there is more Iggy in the list.

One of the excellent albums of Bowie (and Iggy) from the Berlin period. I always thought Brian Eno was also involved, but that's not the case. The best song of the record (Passenger) is the one that was not (co)written by Bowie.

Solid album. First time listening to it. I didn't know Bowie wrote most of it. I'll probably revisit this one.

I've listened to The Stooges a lot, and heard a couple of Pop's solo songs, so I was excited for this song. It lived up to expectations. It's not as raw as The Stooges, but it's got more edge to it than the poppier works Bowie was attached to.

Hell yeah this is a strong classic. Any albums having both Lust for Life AND The Passenger would qualify.

Bangers: Lust for Life The Passenger

Rating: 9,5/10 Highlights: Lust For Life, Sixteen, The Passenger, Fall In Love With Me

Overrated but still very good

To my delight, this is the second time this week that I have received an Iggy Pop's album. From the same year! It still sounds dangerous and sexy, but the difference between this album and "The Idiot" is that here now we have excellent compositions from the beginning to the end of the album, including songs like "Lust For Life", "Success", "Neighborhood Threat" and the classic "The Passenger" which I knew from the voice of Siouxsie Sioux. I was very happy to discover that the relationship between Iggy and Bowie wasn't just a figment of my imagination. Bowie in fact produced the album and composed some of the songs. It is possible to notice in the album, some elements of what would become Post Punk and Goth Rock in the future. Even New Wave is possible to notice in the album's sound. My rule is clear: Every album that catches my attention the first time gets 5 stars!

This was a pleasant surprise — it has all the sounds of modern alt+pop+rock that I love. Surely Iggy Pop paved the way for much of the music I consume on a regular basis. Much of this album reminded me of Franz Ferdinand. Also, Iggy Pop’s vocal intonations reminded me of Tim Curry’s singing in Rocky Horror Picture Show. A weird comparison maybe, but I can’t unhear it. Regardless, I see myself returning to the first 6 tracks of the album. The whole first 2/3!

Good album

Iggy has had some great solo albums, and I think this is the best one. There are great songs from beginning (the sublime title track) to end, with an especially stellar three song run in The Passenger, Tonight, and Success. David Bowie’s fingerprints are all over the record, which is never a bad thing.

The energetic counterpart to The Idiot. I absolutely loved this. He put six absolute bangers in a row straight away. And yes, many tables are in fact made of wood.

Another killer album from Iggy Pop. I like how rowdy and upbeat this one is. The title is accurate. The drumming in particular here is a highlight, with rollicking beats that really propel the songs.

Front to back after one listen this is instantly in the hall of fame this record is so bowie yet so unqiue and the needle drop of the drums at the start to the beautiful keys and drums on tonight, I mean, this is beautiful. I love tonight so much, I love this record already, this is what life is about. I am gonna listen to the lyrics now and love it more.

Sometimes it really isn't that complicated. All it takes to make a beloved rock album is a few chords, loud amps, some undeniable hooks, a taught gristly bundle of pure charisma, and David Bowie behind the boards. This is always cited as a favorite album by every 80s/90s alt rock indie post punk band, I guess because it had a stripped down 'raw power's compared to the bloated radio rock of the late 70s, but retained an essential musicality that the increasingly derivative punk scene didn't always bother with.

very cool!

I have no idea how he did it. Made 3 legendary punk albums with The Stooges, perfecting the genre before it was really even a thing. Then he goes solo and in the same year drops two classics, this and 'The Idiot'. Iggy is incredible, it'll be a huge loss to the world of music when we lose him.

Awesome

I FREAKING LOVE THIS ALBUM! Sorry, I'm a sucker for 70's Iggy Pop. This album has one of the most dynamic drums ever recorder (just listen to "Lust for Life"), iconic songs ("The Passenger"), and amazing deeper cuts ("Neighborhood Threat"). Sorry for my biased opinion and rating, but I do think that Iggy Pop deserves more credit than the one he usually gets. Also, bonus points for those Bowie backing vocals (e.g. "Tonight").

Love this album.

Iggy Bop more like. Sick album. I've enjoyed the Stooges before but there's something special about Iggy's collaborations with Bowie, where I think the former's snarl and roughness is complemented by the latter's tenderness and charm. Love the production on this album - the guitars hit so hard and some of the rhythms here are so infectious too. Best Song: The Passenger Worst Song: Turn Blue Score: 9/10

My first 5-star for a first listen. This is just oozing in style and personality. It’s got a mild camp factor that Lou Reed turns up a notch in Transformer. I already knew and liked a couple of these songs - lust for life obviously, and the excellent Bowie-Tina Turner cover of Tonight - and they’re even better in the album context. Turn Blue was a new favourite, earning its 7-minute runtime with its turbulent vocals and emotional gut-punch lyrics (“Mama, what colour will the lights be? / will they turn blue on me?”). Despite some of the dark subject matter, this gave me some zest for life on a gloomy spring morning. New favourite!

Already heard it!

The only Iggy Pop album I've ever listened to is The Stooges' Raw Power, but aside from cranking up "Search and Destroy" every now and again, I haven't listened to that album in probably 15 years or so. Given the good reviews for this album, I had pretty high hopes heading into it. I didn't think I was familiar with any of the songs on this album, but right away, I recognized the title track... from a Carnival Cruise commercial... that's not very punk rock! But hey, a man's gotta eat, and "Lust for Life" is a complete banger, so I won't deduct any style points for that. That song really has it all: tambourine playing, bluesy guitar playing, a great bass line, and David Bowie on piano. "Sixteen," "Some Weird Sin," and the passenger were great too; they had a lot of the same elements as the title track, but each had a different vocal style that made them really unique. "Tonight" and "Success" were where I could really feel David Bowie's influence in the writing of the music. They both had that touch of 'David Bowie' glam to them, without feeling derivative. "Turn Blue" was the low point of the album for me; the first time I listened to it, I really felt every second of its run time. But the album closed out really strong with "Neighborhood Threat" and "Fall In Love With Me." There was something really familiar about "Fall In Love With Me," but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it reminds me of Arctic Monkeys or The Strokes? Oh well, it doesn't matter, because I loved the vocals and guitar playing on it. This was a fantastic album, and I really loved its garage rock sound, coupled with David Bowie's music writing skills. I wouldn't say that I loved this album, but I think it's objectively good, which is how I felt about The Velvet Underground and Nico. Iggy Pop is a tremendous influence on music, and it's wild to me that this album came out in the seventies, because it sounds like it could have come out in the early aughts. This album has definitely held up, and deserves a spot on this list.

Great energy in this album. Always have great respect for Iggy Pop.

I really, really enjoyed this album. Iggy Pop is not somebody I (knowingly) experienced much of before this book, but he's somebody that's really captured my interest. Is it primarily due to his proximity to Bowie? Maybe, but their styles are very distinct to me despite being clear influences on each other. The Berlin Era is something I will study extensively at some point because the amount of great music it produced as essentially a rehab exercise is so interesting. Favorite track: The Passenger

Man why dont I listen to more Iggy Pop? This was fantastic!

Loved it! Or maybe it was just lust. Get it? See what I did there? Cause it’s called Lust for Life!

The Passenger is a stand-out. The album is solid and exposes me to music I normally don't listen to.

relisten. not many albums make me wanna get up and dance the way this one does. the title is literally spot on.

Peak Berlin Iggy Bowie cosplay. Great playing thru our.

Banger

Frábær plata. Rennur svo vel í gegn og textarnir töff og áhugaverðir. Hafði gífurleg áhrif á rokkið og þessa blessuðu pönk senu.

Snilldarplata. Vinirnir Iggy og Bowie flottir saman. Rosalega heilsteypt plata en hittarar líka.

Ok. I am not gonna lie. With Iggy Pop I really don't care if his music is my thing or not. I do truly LOVE some of his songs and a couple are on this album, but it is actually the person himself I just love Iggy Pop, such an awsome, flawed, storied human being... and for that alone, outside anything about his influence on punk rock and iimportance within the music world and blah blah blah, he is important to me for a lot of philosophical reasons... Thus, like some people and Keanu Reeves (which i also get!!) I see Iggy Pop and I thumbs up!

Unsurprisingly peppy.

Yeah! So good. Had me shaking my ass!

Loved it, every band tries to be this
