Reviews (page 8 of 8)
Ok so this was actually terrifying. It is mid day and I am scared listening to this honestly. The songs were so so long and just sounded like screaming. They were like noises in a movie continuously going for 12 minutes. Did not like this at all.
Can't. Wanking over one chord for 18 minutes is uninspired, directionless, and unimaginative dreck. Not to even mention the unmusical halloween horror show of the last half. Fans of VU will probably love it tho. 1/10 1 star
Sorry. Influential it may be but Pink Floyd meets art school improv group is not my thing. Sounds like an acid trip and maybe that's what you need to enjoy it. Not for me
Different kind of alternative band. Strange sound.
No The first few songs were okay, I guess. Sort of got a grove that was tolerable. Then they start getting to 15+ minute songs that are terrible. I can't fathom how people think this is even listenable, let alone good.
No
Great work, I'm sure they did their best
why does every album this guy pick sound like this i promise you no song needs to be that long, nothing interesting going to happen at the 7 minute mark that hasn’t already happened at minute 2 bud, at least for this type of music, evil pink floyd gremlin
Pre-listening: ohhhh I’m gonna hate this sorry. Based on the reviews I just know. 1 hr 13 mins for like 7 songs never bodes well for me. Post/during listening thoughts: yeah I hate psychedelic rock. Like cannot stand it. It feels aimless and bores me and often is experimental. People tend to praise experimental music just for being experimental when in fact the experiment was a failure and bad. And that’s how I feel about this album. 1/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no I hate krautrock. Fav tracks: paperhouse I GUESS Least fav tracks: mushroom (where are the rest of the instruments), halleluhwah (18 mins is too long), aumgn (nuff said), Peking o, bring me coffee or tea
Mushroom
Awful
The album art is dumb, like a can of spaghetti-os. This got increasingly unnerving to the point where it became a 1 star. Sorry, but eerie wailing during my music at work is not what I'm looking for on a Monday morning. I turned it off 15 minutes into track 5. I'm good never hearing this one before I die.
0*
3 songs in and it's awful. Not a fan.
I couldn’t make myself finish this one.
Nicht meine Richtung
1.5 not good
Yucky
I assume the inclusion of this album was a typo.
Umm. No thank you!
Maybe I wasn't in the mood for it, but it really didn't hit at all.
Bring your own drugs.
I hated this. Not quite as much as Kraftwerk though…
A very eclectic album, and not one I enjoyed. The first half wasn’t bad but the vocals were terrible, just overridden by everything else. Took me twenty minutes to even realize they were speaking another language because it was all so muddy. I think it would’ve been better as an instrumental. But the second half was just bad, with a song that sounded straight out of a generic “Spooky Songs to Play at Halloween” album.
Paperhouse was a decent track to start with. I enjoyed it. The only problem i had was with the vocal levels. It felt like i could hardly hear the vocals. You whacked the volume up and the music would be too loud. Felt like the mixing was a bit off on the track as a result. The following tracks - mushroom and oh yeah were OK too. Then it kind of went off the boil after halleluwah. Aumgn was atrocious and unnecessary. It was offensive to my ears. A complete waste of time infact. Every single track on the album after that was the same. I would have kept tracks 1-4 and dumped the rest. It should just stop right there. I may just delete tracks 5-7 and pretend they never existed. I see people here saying its ahead of its time etc. But that doesnt mean its good. This kind of stuff could easily be released as a demo or B-sides album. A decent album was ruined in my opinion.
Do people actually like this? I don’t. If I could make a request, please no more CAN. So far I’ve heard two of their albums, which is approximately three too many.
Like a child trying to play their first guitar. Basic and repetitive until it has weird bits then back to basic and repetitive.
Not my thing. I tried, I really did but nope.
This wasn’t terrible, until it was. That 17 minute track near the end can do one. Just no.
Psychedelic rock.
Decently enjoyable until it went off the rails
They seriously just took some instruments and made random noise with them and then said a bunch of gibberish and nonsense then recorded it and called it music. Then someone said this album is good enough to be listened to and published it. Even worse, it was put on this list. 1 star and if I could give less I would.
You know when you've been tangoed Cus it's shit,
Odd
Can't
Had never heard of this album and never hope to again. No idea what I was listening to.
Never heard anything by this artist before. Sounds like Eddie Murphy's Buckwheat's new electronica band. Now with more backward masking! The music hit a couple of grooves but the entire thing just unspools by the end. "When I saw Mushroom Head"
So not my type of music.
I already knew this was trouble when I saw 10 songs and 2 hours. After coming off the high of great concert on Saturday, we get whatever this was suppose to be, on a Monday and destroying any music mojo from the weekend. Thanks a fuggen lot Mr. Magoo. First several minutes, I though this my by alright, but boy was I wrong. This thing got worse with each passing minute. I'm confident this was to test my "don't quit until you hear the entire album" mantra. Tested, passed an will not attempt to give a 2nd listen. Guess that's the best thing I can say about this album. Stick with the cartoons Magoo.
Started off with some interesting musical choices, not really for me but I could see how it would have its merits. But as the songs got longer I just got inpatient, far too indulgent.
Not good at all. Strange.
Did someone say there were melodies on this album? Must have blinked and missed them. I like my music to sooth, entertain and grab my attention (amongst a lot of other things) This is just a mishmash of random noise and impossible to listen too. 1/5 8/5/24
I do like a bit of early 70s jazz fusion nonsense, George Duke, Santana, Zappa, etc. Not like this. This is just horrible on the ears and goes nowhere, I'm all for free experimentation but let's have some kind of a result lads.
What was that. Listened to it but can not tell you what I heard except noise.
Curious little album. 1/5
Awful
Had potentie maar te trippy
For someone like me that barely hears lyrics (I do hear vocals) unless I really concentrate, I feel like the foreign language does not harm my ability to appreciate the music. OK... I tried to give it a chance. It started out OK but quickly went to a place that I could not follow. Sorry Can. You're just not for me. Track by track: 1 - I like it. Interesting build up. I don't know if I could listen to an entire album like this. 2 - OK... we've stayed on the same vibe. Vocals are so subdued until they are not. They almost remind me of Trent Reznor a bit how he will use vastly different volumes and tones in vocals. 3 - For some reason this has more of a Lynyrd Skynyrd vibe than the previous two tracks which felt a bit more progressive and timeless. 4 - Couldn't help but notice the run time. Well, I used to listen to a lot of Jam Bands so this could be right up my alley. I'll check back in at the half-way point. A little past the halfway point... I am just kinda hanging out jamming along. I don't hate it and I don't love it. A few minutes left of the song and its getting intense and making me a bit anxious. This song is AMBITIOUS but I didn't ever feel the need to get out except that one point possibly. 5 - 1/3rd of the way in and I don't like this at all. It is way too experimental for me. I'll brave it out but my goodness they are asking a lot of us. Oh... I just got to the drum circle section of this song. Funny! 6 - Dude. What the hell. This feels like a troll. 7 - OK this is fine (especially after that last track).
# 140 : Really? Over 1 hour of bashing on a toy drum! Totally Bad
Largely nonsense to my ears
I know this is a classic, but maybe I just wasn't in the mood.
garbage
Not a fan.
Too spooky
Spaced out hippies making noises? No ta.
It is fucking terrible
couldn't even finish this.
Volvemos a los bodrios.
this is a looooooooooong one. lets see if its a vibe. what is this wacky ass album. the noises are genuinely out of control. wtf tbh. peking o got even weirder... FINALLY MADE IT THROUGH SHEEEEEEESH
This is terrible 1/5
I tried. I can't.
groovy
Confusing -- why is this album on this list?
Weird
Not about to listen to krautrock
1971 Some songs are smooth listening, others are just clanging and banging of drums or weird sound sequences sustained for long periods of time. Not enjoyable.
What the hell was that?
Some ok stuff and a whole lot of the worst kind of psychedelica. I'm here to listen to music, not what amounts to 30 minutes of house creaking
To be fair, the first 4 tracks were interesting. I must not be smart enough to understand this music.
some good, but then some weird jam band noise vibes
Yeah, not my cuppa tea.
A pretty oddball album by Can. Which is an equally dumb numb for a band. I just couldn’t find the good parts of this album. It was hard to listen to and harder to understand. Wasn’t the worst thing on this list but it won’t be revisited anytime soon. 3.4/10
I think the band had a stroke halfway through this album
Not my jam.
Experimenting with music is good, but sometimes experiments fail. From the first few tracks I already disliked the record, but then I was attacked by a 17-minute clattering session, followed by another 20 minutes or so of unbearable music. Hard pass.
Just wasn't interested in sitting through this.
Mijn ratings zijn gemiddeld wat laag. Moet ik milder zijn? is de vraag. Maar het ligt niet aan mijn beoordeling. Nu krijg ik weer zo'n geluidenverzameling.
I hated everything fuckin' single second of this embarrassing record. A total disgrace.
I have no idea how someone listens to this and says 5 stars. I was hanging in okay through the first 4 tracks. Didn't like it, but it was just slightly excessive in experimental/psychedelic. And then unfortunately Aumgn and Peking O. showed up. No part of that is actually enjoyable to listen to a second time. Unexpected on the first, but no reason to go back. Ugh.
Lame
Good God this is torture. It's taken days to power through this, and it's yet to be enjoyable. Just noise for 74 minutes.
The first song was decent. Then came an insane screach and the album came crashing down. Aumgn is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Peking O is awful terrible. It is just random noises and random keyboard shit. Makes you think who allowed this to happen. The only compliment I can give to this album is that is isn't as terrible as Throbbing Gristle's third album! I HATE YOU 0/10
Getting all the way through this album requires ... grit. The first six tracks are very weird and non-melodic but you feel like, ok, this is cool even if it's pretty hard to listen to. You probably need to be stoned out of your mind to appreciate it, and even then you'd prefer to listen to something more ... musical. But ok. The track seven comes and it's just absolutely horrendous noise - l it's a really bad trip and your drugs were laced with poison. I mean I'm sure these guys were technically good but this is just too much! I emerged a little shaken, glad I survived. I won't be listening to this one ever again if I can help it.
not a fan
Rubbish - mad 1970s hippy jamming, poorly execufed.
A very weird album. I had never heard of the album before and I do not think I have heard of the band either. I have no idea why this album is on the list. It is not really rock and roll, punk, or psychedelic rock at least how I describe those genres. There was really no reason to listen to it to begin with and no reason to revisit it.
Ok this sounds like that kind of music which you are forced to hear when the CIA is interrogating you while you're on LSD. I do have to say, it's weirdly charming. I was at Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets tour and while I was sitting, I saw some old people dancing through the entire concert. Like they're high as a kite. This is what they listen to when they're not listening to Pink Floyd. I retract this statement. It's still shit, I'm getting real tired of it by Halleluwah. It's hot garbage actually, that this shit is on the list of 1001 albums and Weezer's blue album isn't, is a fucking disgrace. On one hand, you have one of the greatest albums of the 90's, probably even the greatest power pop album ever made, and on the other one what I imagine sounds like what it is like to have a stroke while on LSD and ketamine while being on the train station. It's so bad, it's funny, BUT IT'S 1 HOUR LONG JESUS CHRIST AAUUUUUUMMMGGGNNNNN AAAAAAUUUUUUUMMMMMMGGNNN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaAAaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM was the lyric that hit the hardest doe. So deep... It could actually be good if they'd drop the avant garde. I'M FINALLY DONE WITH IT!!! FUCK THIS ALBUM 1/5
what is this album? it's so WEIRD. and it became progressively weirder and weirder! we had violin screeching, throat noises, dog barking. i would argue on the fact if this is actual music. it's cool they experimented so much but there should be a limit somewhere. the fact is i have a lot of questions for the members of the CAN band.
Hated it. I have the suspicion that the pain I endured while listening to this would be akin to my grandmother listening to one of my Full of Hell or Pig Destroyer albums. This is an artist's artist. You know it's either for dudes with ponytails who get off on chord progression or hipster douchebags who don't know if they like it or like it to be ironic. Either way it's for the "you just don't get it, maaaaan" crowd. And in the end, that's fine. I don't get it and I dobt care that I don't. It still gets a 1.
Aumgn tem um vocal sinistro psicodélico.
Starts off interesting but then divulges into 17 minutes of a weird, liminal horror-scape sound track. I make a habit of trying to find joy in everything, and according to wikipedia there are a lot of people that think this album is great...I must have bad taste?
Wow, what was this? It was a complete chore to get through this. Not for me. At. All.
I listened to this for as long as I could endure it. If I ever find myself running a haunted house at a carnival and I need a soundtrack….
Bizarre album. Would not go back again
A raggedy mess for the most part, sounding like a bedroom demo they couldn't convince anyone to let them record.
No Can Do
Pretty progressive for a band from 1971. Nevertheless, it didn't do a damn thing for me.
A compliment sandwich. Good: "Tago Mago" is very fun to say. Bad: I could have used that hour or so to catch up on podcasts. Good: "Aumgn" is the perfect onomatopoeia for human moaning. I will not speculate why the track needed to contain four minutes of human moaning, because this is supposed to be a compliment.
MENTAL
Devolves into something that isn't even "music". Experimental to the point of nihilism.
Liked Halleluwah, HATED aumgn
broooooooooooo this is some wierdo demon shit wtfffffff Peking O is literally the craziest thing I've ever heard. And that's saying something because the song before it is Aumgn.... i dont even know how to rate this...i dont even know what this is...i dont even know what i am. gonna rate 1 star because this isnt music? maybe as an interpretive medium this is inspiring but im just trying to chill yo - not trying to go on whatever journey Can is trying to take me on
started out kinda cool psych-y. then found myself skipping every track. wtaf?
Very not interested in this.
Kind of sounds like weird 90s rock music. Either way - it's bad. Just almost grungy with bad singing and playing. 2/10.
Zu experimentel. Sehr lange geräuschsongs
muss man auf jeden fall gehört haben - 1
Meh
I wanted to give this a chance but I had to actually stop playing it because it was giving me a headache. Something is super discordant about this nonsense hippy rock and I think I'm just too sober to like it.
