Reviews (page 3 of 14)
Son poquísimos los discos de Led Zeppelin a los que no les daría 5 estrellas. Este no es uno de ellos.
A masterclass in rock. A legendary album for a reason.
I mean come on. Of course it's great. Zep makes so much rock music that came after it sound redundant
Easiest 5 star there is
Really good album. It too me back to the 80’s.
I enjoyed this album. It felt diverse and intense. I liked the string-like textures and the folk, bluesy tones, but what really drove me was how they turned it into rock. Since I’ve Been Loving You stood out especially. Deeply emotional with impeccable guitar work.
Top.
III was the first Led Zeppelin album I ever listened to start-to-finish, and in some ways it’s still my favorite, even though I have listened to IV since then. There’s just not a bad or boring track on it, and yes, I’m including Hats Off in that assessment. (The vocal effects!) Immigrant Song is a classic, Gallows Pole and Bron-Y-Aur Stomp are proper romps, Since I’ve Been Lovin’ You has that great moody atmosphere… Great stuff. I was happy to see it turn up.
Yeah I’ll give ya a 5 yeah why not
I have many of the songs on playlists. It’s Led Zeppelin. Who doesn’t like trying to imitate the opening screams of Immigrant Song?
This has long been one of my favourite Zeppelin albums. It's more original, the rock songs are peerless, 'Friends' is amazing and one of the band's highlights, and there isn't the same reliance on standard blues workouts. Instead you get a lot more influence from earlier periods - Leadbelly, Blind Willie Johnson, Kokomo Arnold, and Delta slide masters. Bonham is amazing on 'Out on the Tiles', and the guitar work from 'Gallows Pole' to the end is exceptional for its range and colour. Great music!
When the member realized they were actually great musicians.
An album so good you have to listen to it again immediately when it ends.
What gorgeous blues/rock! This is a keeper for sure. 4.5/5
Really top tier opening, solid all the way through. There's a reason this has remained a staple for more than 50 years.
First Zeppelin album on the list for me, though I have heard a lot of these songs before. An excellent record, no doubt. Tons of great songs. Immigrant Song, Tangerine, and Gallows Pole have always been favorites from me on this record. All excellent tunes. There’s so much more to like on here though, whether it’s Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Friends, and others. The way they all blend together is incredible, one of the great bands of all time and an amazing record.
Less good Zeppelin > 97% of other music
Definitely not my favorite Zep album. But it is still great.
Cannot find a bad song on the whole album.
For me it goes I, IV, II, III....but they are all 5's.
I do not need to listen to this in order to review it. It is one of my favourite Led Zeppelin albums, and that is saying something. It was probably a surprise to fans at the time, but with the benefit of decades having passed, it is clearly a wonderful record. I love it's relaxed acoustic vibe. It's a Zeppelin chill out album and I am here for it.
Amazing album, has always been a favourite. Perfect story telling
5 estrelas .
Led Zeppelin is so good.
sounds like sitting in the garden revising for chemistry paper 2 knowing I was going to do terribly
01) Immigrant Song - 10,0 02) Friends - 8,5 03) Celebration Day - 8,5 04) Since I've Been Loving You - 9,0 05) Out on the Tiles - 9,0 06) Gallows Pole - 9,0 07) Tangerine - 10,0 08) That's the Way - 10,0 09) Bron-Y-Aur Stomp -10,0 10) Hats Off to (Roy) Harper - 8,5 TOTAL: 9,25 (93/100) Current ranking: 27/626
10/10 would listen again.
Possibly their best?! Certainly my favourite. A brilliant grab bag of styles and themes, anchored by the majestic ‘Since I’ve Been Lovin’ You’ - a brilliant listen from the moment the needle drops until it lifts. The only problem: you have to get off your stoned ass to flip it over! Perfection.
One of the best albums of any era.
Starts with Immigrant Song a hard rock masterpiece and then becomes more acoustic and folkie, phenomenal musicianship, it's a nice change of pace and shows how versatile they were.
Loved this album. It had such a mix of sounds compared to their most known songs - specifically noticed some blues and country. Each song was diverse, lyrically and musically. I’m not sure I’d ever actually acknowledged the lyrics to Immigrant Song. And there was a bit of a disconnect for me between the lyrics and the music on Friends. All in all, I will listen to it again.
What an amazing album. Nearly half of the songs are included in my favourite (Not-)Led Zeppelin album, No Quarter, and the rest is also great.
Great variety on this album. Not listened to it for a long time.
That's not quite what I was expecting. Immigrant Song is the best here, everything after is a slight letdown from that. I'm impressed that so many different genres are on this album, and they are all done well. 4.5
Done
Awesome
When I was younger I loved Zeppelin, I have listened to this album so many times, but it's been years since I listened to their albums. So the question is, do the songs remain the same in my heart. The answer ... yes, once a classic, always a classic. There is a reason Led Zeppelin is considered one of the greatest bands of all time!
Oh boy
Led Zepp at full throttle, storming towards their peak
Several big hits on this album and some lesser known gems (to me) make for a a very entertaining listening experience.
Led has rarely a bad song their curating was perfect and they knew how to rock and make an album. Their influences and way of ordering experimental and classic was superb. This not even their top 3 album yet its simply amazing
mattia di figa
Classic rock, straight to my heart
This is my least favorite of the numbered albums. But Immigrant Song is what got me interested in Led Zeppelin and I got to hear Robert Plant perform Gallows Pole last summer. So overall it's still a beloved album.
My favorite Zeppelin album. I love the balance of the rock on side A and the acoustic side B. I know this isn’t the most revered of their catalogue, but damn is it good. What an unreal 4 album run to start their careers.
They really switched it up by Jimmy going more acoustic guitar centered on this one. And John Paul Jones shows off his great talent as a multi instrumentalist. Just a brilliant album!
There's honestly not a single skip for me from Led Zeppelin I - IV. Incredible album from one of my favorite bands of all time. I have listened to this countless times and it will continue to be in rotation
Classic.
Grew up listening to this so, yeah, I love it.
4 stars, this is not a morning album this is a late afternoon album. I wish I started listening to this with more focus but it would be an easy 5 stars otherwise. ACTUALLY that's a lie I heard at least half and really enjoyed it 5 STARS LETS GOOO BABY
I'm not entirely sure if this album is warranted a full 5 rating, but I was once again pleasantly entertained by every single track on this album. When you're a teenager, you don't hear how much this band was heavily influenced by the Blues, but I can't help but hear it now, and I love it. This album deserves at a minimum a 4 just for the opening track, "Immigrant Song." This is easily a 4.5, but by the current rule of law, does that bump it up into a 5, or does it get dragged down to a 4? I don't know.
It’s solid, I enjoy Led Zeppelin a lot. Their songs are iconic.
Genuinely my favorite LZ album. I’m a massive Stan for this album, I have nothing negative to say. Totally biased. This album has so much variety and creativity. You could tell that this is a band firing on all cylinders and at their top of their game but also completely fearless in making something truly unique. This album is (just my personal conspiracy theory) what probably inspired all of the music that I love like Ween and stuff. I’ll never get tired of this album.
sehr Ikonisch
Better than Coldplay
A great record from a legendary band in top form. “Born Y-Aur Stomp,” “Immigramt Song,” - heck, I love “Friends!”
10/10 no notes.
Unoriginal. Sounds old
The best of LedZep
Just pure, classic Rock!!!!
What a perfect Friday album. As soon as "Immigrant song" hit, I was ready to gas up the car, pack the cooler, and hit the road. This is the perfect road trip album. Well done.
Absolutely amazing! Some great hits, and some awesome deep cuts.
Clearly the most underrated album by Led Zeppelin, this work deserves a serious listen by every music lover.
Awesome! Led Zep were a huge influence through my teens and early 20s. They're still one of my favourites. For me, Led Zep don't have any bad albums.
A stone-cold classic. The combination of proper rock songs with more folky tracks makes for a great listen.
Iconic. Live the rock with the touch of acoustic and folk vibes
What new can be said, a seminal album from a band synonymous with rock and roll.
Great album that I think gets lost in the shuffle of other LZ albums at times. The band continues to expand their sound, and lots of “deep tracks” with only one single off this one.
Enkelt, alltid 5.
Finally Zeppelin! Listened to this quite recently but always worth a revisit. III is the odd one out amongst the first 4 with the more acoustic driven sound and doesn’t have as many big hits but it’s got more atmosphere than any of their other records. Immigrant Song is such an unusual way to start the album because it doesn’t reflect the rest of it at all. But it’s a banger. Then it really picks up at since I’ve been loving you. Gallows Pole is one of my favourite Zeppelin songs, manic and tragic at the same time. Tangerine and That’s the way also star. Maybe not all Zeppelin albums will get 5 stars, but this will
Love this album.
132/1089 - Woah! What are the odds of getting two albums by the same artist back to back? I know it gets more likely as you go on with the project so it's pretty cool it happened early on for me! On to the review, it started strong. Honestly, Immigrant Song, Friends, and Since I've Been Loving You are worth the 5 on their own. The folksier B side was nice overall and a little strange on the last song (but it makes sense with historical context).
There's a reason
Right up there with any of thier best work
I was already familiar with this album. It's great. It showcases Led Zeppelin's softer acoustic side very well. Of course it also has bangers too in Immigrant Song and Since I've Been Loving You. It is probably Zeppelin's most underrated album, but that's really only because they have so many great albums and this one is easy to overlook. I would listen to this album any time.
fazla iyi
One of my favorite albums. Such good instrumentals, tons of feeling throughout.
I ATE THIS ONE UP SORRY
This is the best Zeppelin. It's all good, but this lives at the very top of the top shelf.
4.8 - Ooooo, led zep are fast moving up my favourites list
It’s a crusher front-to-back. Now some non-sequiturs. 1. I remember watching them play “Since I’ve Been Loving You” on a DVD from a performance in the late 70s and my brain exploding with the speed and sheer coolness of JP’s playing. 2. It sounds like Heart took the opening riff from “Gallows Pole” and repurposed it for “Crazy on You” and honestly killer move if so. 3. Way more acoustic jams than I remember. Honestly, fantastic album. It’s incredible that by number 3 (and those that came after) they were staying true, tweaking the formula, and taking some risks that had big payoffs.
The weirdest Led Zep album but also still great. From the singles like Immigrant Song to the Lite Rock fare like Tangerine or That's The Way, to the bluesy hidden gem at the end, it's a great listen through and through.
First time I have listened to this in it's entirety in a long time. Surprised me how messy the mix was but that only adds to the nostalgia. I can't undervalue how much influence some of these tracks had on me as a kid. If I had to be critical it's probably a 4.25 but bonus points for letting me get the led out on my drive to work this morning.
I’ve had this chord progression I’ve been messing around with for a while now and it’s been so familiar, but I just couldn’t place it. Turns out it was Tangerine. I wish I could have actually written it instead of ripping it off by accident. Great song and a great album! While this isn’t my favourite Zeppelin album, I’m pretty sure they’ll all get a 5/5 from me as they were one of my first musical obsessions.
Remarkably haven't listened to this one in full before. One listen in, I feel like I've missed out on this. For all of IV being my favourite, there is a heck of a lot of value in this one too. Gotta probably be a near 5, let's round up!
Amazing album from one of the most consistent bands in terms of quality of albums. The acoustic numbers are just as good as the electric heavier rock you would expect from them, just awesome throughout
Every time I run into an LZ album in here it feels like a resting point. They're always fresh yet familiar at the same time, and always a great listen
This album often gets a bad rap, but to be fair, it comes bookended by arguably two of the greatest rock albums ever recorded. While it may not have the star potential of either of those albums, it still contains some of Zep's best songs. "Immigrant Song" is one of their best-known songs, and it also includes one of my favorites, "Since I've Been Loving You." Easily 5 stars.
5 stars for the first 20 seconds of the first song - this is a belter. Not sure where this stands in the panoply of ‘the Zepp’ but for someone that hasn’t really listened to them that much it feels like a great introduction. Surprised and pleased by the thoughtful, melodic moments scattered throughout the second half of the record. Making me more excited to be back.
I was gonna do the old give it a 4* because it’s not quite as banging as II and IV, but actually it’s packed with top tunes(in the unique Zep style) I can forgive the couple of weaker ones. They deserved to be relatively more chill for an album.
Really enjoyed
One of my favorite rock albums of all time.
"Finally, Some Good Fucking Food" Sure, I'm a drummer who was greatly influenced by Bonham, meaning I'm incredibly biased. But whatever, fuck the haters, this album is a masterpiece. Many fans were let down by the feeling that the complete album didn't match the sheer force/energy of the legendary opening track "Immigrant Song" - but I'd argue that's not what they were going for. III was LZ's attempt to push themselves as musicians and defy the press's belief that they were nothing but loud blues rockers. That resulted in the band experimenting with blues, metal, acoustic, and folk elements to create a truly unique euphony of sound. And if nothing else, the pushback the band got from this album ultimately pushed them to go balls-to-the-wall on IV, one of the greatest albums ever created. So there's that lol.
Great
My first Led Zep album so biased. Does it have the best songs? No? But it holds together brilliantly and is possibly the best produced LZ album. Range, interesting songs. Highlight being the mandolin on Gallows Pole.
Immigrant Song is a 10/10 classic. One of their best songs. Friends 7/10 Celebration Day is a bit odd lyrically, but the music is fire 9/10 Since I've Been Loving you is one of my favorite Led Zep songs 10/10 Out On The Tiles 7/10 Gallows Pole I like the story 9/10 Tangerine is also a classic, love the vocals 9/10 That's The Way a surprisingly sad tune. Let the kids play 8/10 Bron-Y-Aur Stomp weakest song on the album so far 6/10 Hats Off To (Roy) Harper guess we're ending on a weak spot 6/10
Awesome
The definition of arena rock. An amazing album. Bombastic. I have never been a huge Zeppelin fan but this record may have swayed my opinion.
just brilliant
Great album
One of those albums that has been in my collection for more than 40 years. I've owned this on vinyl, cassette, CD, and hi-res download. It has drifted in and out of favour with me. It isn't really my favourite of the early Zep albums, I'm not sure I particularly liked it as a teenager. My musical tastes have changed a bit and I can now appreciate this more. Still, 5/5.
Banger, obvs and the first CD I ever bought, back in the mists of time. Some underrated classics on this one, like Tangerine and Since I've Been Loving You.
4.5/5
For a long time, it's been a toss-up between this and Led Zeppelin IV for their best album. I feel like III is sort of an underdog, as it really didn't get as much love from classic rock radio as II & IV. Other than "Immigrant Song" and "Gallow's Pole", you were unlikely to hear much from this. While those are great tunes ("Immigrant Song" is very high on my list of greatest hard rock songs ever), every song on this is incredible. "Celebration Day", "Out on the TIles", "Tangerine", and "That's the Way" are some of my other favorites here. Strong 5 stars.
Hats off, ladies and gentlemen, another genius Led Zeppelin album. With a couple of tip-toppiest all-time classic Zep tracks in Immigrant Song and almighty blues extravaganza Since I’ve Been Loving You plus a bundle of folksy fun with bouncing and bounding Bron-Y-Aur Stomp and sprightly traditional hangman tale Gallows Pole. Hats can firm stay on for last track Hats Off To Roy Harper though, that one really sucks. Even with the brown stained final hurdle, 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
Immigrant Song is a raucous intro but Friends is very different - mysterious and mystical with acoustic instruments and strings. Unmatched atmosphere. Clean transition into Celebration Day and some great guitar and bass riffing. Then it's Since I've Been Loving You, with slow deep bass and emotional guitar. The vocals and drums are top notch and so is the lengthy solo. It's both delicate and very heavy. Out on the Tiles continues with some of the hardest rocking stuff yet. The intro riff is maybe the best on the record. It's an incredible first side. The other half is a bit more gentle, Gallows Pole leading out with folk guitar before the pounding drums come in. Tangerine is simply beautiful and That's the Way and Bron-Y-Aur Stomp are pure folk; the first one quiet and pretty, the second fit for a square dance session. Hats Off To (Roy) Harper is a dissonant closer with Plant's vocals run through a filter. This is a band signaling their intent. Hard to imagine changing anything.
Amazing. Bluesy, folksy, yet modern and timeless at the same time. Really enjoyed the start to the finish
O, Cepeliny, moje ulubiene! Świetna płyta. Są takie zespoły, które eksperymentują z różnymi brzmieniami, gatunkami i stylami i wychodzi im to wyśmienicie, bo po prostu są świetnym muzykami. "That's the Way", uwielbiam.
Really good!
The best Zeppelin if you ask me
their pastoral folk record lol. a lot of zep hate out there. people despise them. i get why i guess. i don’t listen to them like i'm in high school anymore, but when their records come up in my routine, i always get a bump of excitement. scratches a certain itch. primal stuff. i’ve got room for a slice of overblown self indulgent cock rock. immigrant song like standing on the prow of a viking longship yadda blah yadda. when i put this record on in the house, i always wish they built to this track instead of kicking off with it. but it also kinda reads like getting the last of II out of their systems. worth listening to on headphones to really hear the bass run in the chorus. sick tremolo chords too. give me the transition from friends into celebration day. 🤌 great phaser sound bridging the two, then it snaps into focus and BOOM full tilt boogie. band of gorillas fronted by a horny chimp. i see how “since i been” can be characterized as a boring slog or a texturally complex blues meditation. i tend toward the latter and think it’s the right kind of moody. spooky mansion blues. i think at least the drums were recorded in the giant foyer of an old manor house, and it sounds that way. the organ is haunted; the creaky cricket playing the kick drum is right on time. page will never be on my mount rushmore of guitarists, but his playing is great here, particularly when he hits those arpeggiated chords just after 5:30. plant is a weird shrieking ghoul. it must have been funny to have his screechy ass wailing all the time. out on the tiles. pubfight song. great boneheaded single note riff. guitar and bass playing the same thing. rides roughshod over those big dumb bashy bonham drums. i don’t give a fuck by now. i’m in it and it kicks hard and it feels good. someone break a pint of bitter over my head. gallows pole starts as a funeral dirge and morphs into something dynamic and fun. rolling banjo. tangerine is the last zep song that prompted a 39 year old man to tell me, “i fucking hate led zeppelin. they suck so much ass.” lol ok. it’s also the song in the final scene of almost famous. your choice i guess. pedal steel. nothin wrong w bron y aur stomp. i came here to stomp. good weird blown out finish w the rework of shake em on down (for roy harper (for some reason)). the guitar playing is caustic and stuttering, and the slide sounds like a straight razor. probably influenced by nostalgia and familiarity, but i’m going 5 again. twenty years i’ve been putting this on and feeling better with every track. it ain’t for the poetry—it’s for getting me head bashed in. three records in a row that feel like old friends.
I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to this album and it’s pretty great. I love the crunchy blown out distorted times paired with the dreamy whimsical soft moments. I’m asking myself now have I ever really let the LED out? Damn, Since I’ve been loving, you is a killer song. Gallows Pole gets me going, surprise, mandolin, and banjo demonic Bluegrass what the hell is going on? Seems to get faster and faster. Amazing song Tangerine is lovely The next couple songs are an adventure through the dark mystical forest. Deep roots, Smokey, sunlight through the branches. We know we will make it out but we aren’t in a rush. The air is thick and we are high. This is our vacation… but then the levee breaks When the levee breaks is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. I’m a sucker for harmonica and it’s so essential in this song. What a masterpiece. Great album, already started it over.
This is a great record. It's a bit hard to reconcile vs. all the other great Zeppelin albums, but I think it's more creative than the previous albums, and a bit more "pure" than most of the later albums. It has several classic tracks, and the "filler" is actually quite good, unlike some of their other records.
Classic !!!
Love it 5/5
It’s kinda hard to review this type of records. Oh you think Tangerine is a good song and plant is a great vocalist? What an original thought. I mean it’s a classic among the Zeppelin discography, as are all first six Zeppelin albums. These are shining pinnacles in the history of rock music. I think this album is kinda thin with “hits” outside of the immigrant song, but it has a great selection of songs that showcase all of the things Zeppelin can do - epic drums, bass that can be both driving and melodic, killer riffs, great solos and Plant’s vocals that can go from heavy metal to blues to soul and everything in between. What I also love about Zeppelin is how raw and organic the sound is. It’s not sloppy but it’s not what I would call sloppy. It jumps out and grabs you, feels like a live show. Rightfully a classic.
First listen thru this album was enjoyable, although I preferred the first half better the than last bit. There’s a nice mix of acoustic and electric sounds. “Immigrant Song” was the highlight, but “Since I’ve Been Loving You” and “Gallows Pole” also stood out.
I can see why my dad likes this so much. I think it'd be great for a road trip but it elicited no emotion from me
Not their best, but absolutely phenomenal in every aspect otherwise!
Loved it. First song reminded me of School of Rock
My favorite album cover as a kid
Yes
Starts off with a banger! And keeps getting better from there.
LED ZEPPELIN MY GOAT THEY'RE SO GREAT
Epic
Sublime stuff
Another toke Master stroke On a roll Succes taking toll A band at their peak Total winning streak Massive hits Song that stick
An album that begins with one of the best songs Led Zeppelin did has to be great. Obviously this one is. I know there was some controversy when this came out about it being too different than the first two Zeppelin records but I don't see that as a bad thing. As great as the first two records are, this one is right up there. I think I actually like this one a bit better than their first album. Nothing else to say about it, its Zeppelin so you know it's going to be better than 90% of records on this list. That's the Way is sort of a slow spot for me, but I'm still giving this one 4.5/5
Possibly the best Zeppelin album, and that’s saying a lot.
"Since I've been loving you" itself makes this album a 5/5. So many acoustic folksy bangers on here. Not my favourite Led Zeppelin album, but still 5/5.
First time listening to a full Led Zeppelin album and i think it was a good introduction to their music as i don’t really listen to hard rock often, but it was eye opening to listen to emotional rock music whilst changing genres slightly throughout the album from blues rock to low key country to groovy tracks. tangerine is such an underrated song, and was unexpected from such a large hard rock presence in the industry.
A different sound from Led Zep but still badass. My least favorite of the four untitled albums but any band would be over the moon to have an album like this. You can see the building blocks of IV in this one
Banger
love it, barely even need to listen to this one ive heard it so many times. almost doesnt need to be on this list.
Masterpiece
>>> the Beatles
One of the best.
I guess I’m a Zeppelin fan. I really enjoyed this album. I see why they are in the classics hall of fame.
Albumi #169, 08.03.2025 Led Zeppelinin kolmas albumi vuodelta 1970 on modernin musiikkihistorian merkkiteos.
I never smashed 5 stars so fast in my life. My Led Zeppelin bias is heavy, but this is an absolute cherry on top of LZ's discography. In the hangover of the summer of love, a very sober rock album was released with combinations of old blues rock and new era folk acoustic guitars. A fusion LZ was great at, all the instrumentation on this album is virtuosic and written so well, it sounds fresh everytime. And the production value from recording in an old cottage on analog really brings this album together. Songs like Tangerine and That's the Way speak volumes to me since childhood. Forever ingrained in how I play music and listen to music.
Led Zeppelin is one of the very few bands that released 5-star albums in a row, they were basically untouchable from 1969 until at least 1973. Their third album may not be as appreciated as their debut or IV, but it's still on the list of their best works. I love traditional folk and this album has a lot of songs in that are folk rock-ish, but it is a stylistically really varied album. Also, Immigrant Song is one of the best opening songs ever. So yeah, it gets a 5 from me overall.
Einu sinni fannst mér Since I've been loving you besta lag í heimi. Finnst það ennþá stórgott, eins og þessi plata öll. Hún hefur elst svona miklu betur en Physical Graffiti.
kind of underrated and overrated at the same time
Great band with another great album, hard to believe they made so many great songs. I didn't know I was such a Led Zeppelin fan.
Skiftede mere over i folk/blues fremfor hard rock. De redefinerede hvad rock kunne være og banede vej for en anden lyd for bands som Neil Young og fleetwood Mac. Akustisk. Det blev skrevet og produceret på landet og føles som en fresh breath of mountain Air
Some more of the classic hard rock Zeppelin is known for. Very good, but I don't find myself putting it on as much as IV or Physical Graffiti.
9/10. So good. Probably the first one I wanted to listen to again because I enjoyed it so much. Guitar playing is fantastic with memorable solos full of feeling, vocals are brilliant. The riffs are simple but cut deep, some really second to none hook writing, with my favourites being 'Immigrant Song', 'Tangerine' (which feels like a precursor to stairway to heaven) and 'Since I've Been Loving You' but honestly it was consistent the whole way. Had to be my first five.
My first LZ album and wow this was great
A classic
Yes. Boss album. Not heard a whole Led Zep before.
It's another 5 - can take them for granted but listening to the records they're just the best rock band going.
4.5
Really good
I like Led Zeppelin. They were a fine heavy rock band. I don’t understand why they are held up as huge innovators, The Beatles of the ‘70s, and I hate that they stole songs wholesale from the likes of Willie Dixon and that some biographers continue to justify the theft because “they made them better songs.” Then again, those biographers also reveal that the band, particularly Bonham and Page, along with manager Peter Grant were basically horrible cunts. That said, rant over and getting back to the music, they did make good records, and Page knew how to produce them. This may have been the first LZ studio album I heard in full (I had put The Song Remains the Same on my Christmas list, thinking that as Deep Purple’s Made in Japan was them at their best, Zeppelin live would be similar - they’re not) as a school friend had it. And it is excellent, one of my favourites. It was poorly reviewed due to the number of acoustic songs on the second side but, Page being a better acoustic player than on electric, it is these numbers that really shine - listen to the space in the lovely “That’s the Way” or “Tangerine”. Never the blues master that Clapton, Taylor, Green and Beck were, Page does shine on “Since I’ve Been Loving You” and “Immigrant Song” is the original Viking metal around which a whole sub-genre has grown. LZ III is a proper album, not just a collection of songs - the way the bubbling synth at the end of “Friends” carries into “Celebration Day” and then disappears forever is excellent. So, when you strip away all the mythology and cultish worship, what you have is a damn fine album by a damn fine rock band. No more, no less, but that should be enough.
Cracking album start to finish. Very varied and altogether hits.
Own it, love it, always have, always will! Released in my mid teens as I was making my way through the end of school and finding my way into college, right about when I started learning guitar and was infatuated with video games. “Girl From Mars”, “Oh Yeah”, “Angel Interceptor” and “Kung Fu” are some of favourites. All were perfect for my teenage angst, lust and confusion. Solid 5 for this one.
Holy cow this is my 4th album in a row that will be 5 stars. Gallows Pole to Tangerine to That's the Way is one of my favorite 3 song runs ever, and I think the last of those is maybe an underrated Zeppelin song. In the context of the subject matter, these lyrics consistently draw tears: "And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers / But all that lives is born to die / And so I say to you that nothing really matter / And all you do is stand and cry"
Nice
Classic zeppelin. I first listened to this album on my first flight to Japan 20 years ago. Something about this album captures the feeling of flying over the middle of nowhere to some mysterious place. Weird place and weird week. Zeppelin 3 is the soundtrack of that feeling for me
If it didn’t end on such a dud it would be the best led zep. Immagrant song is of course a classic but it’s consistently good from beautiful acoustic tracks like friends and tangerine and riffy ones like celebration day and out of the tiles a few others and blusey masterpiece since I’ve been loving you 5/5
Yeah, what else can be said, this was amazing. Been a while since I listened to a full album from LZ and gladly, this is front to back bangers. I’m in awe of the performances across the board, and there’s such a great variety of sounds throughout the album. Rating: 5
Brilliant. Rock, folk blues. They could do it all. And with feeling!
Right off the bat they are screaming about Valhalla, hard to beat that. The rest of the album was enjoyable as well, maybe it's time for me to give Led Zeppelin another chance.
Take all the stars. I'm sure there will be plenty of people saying Led Zeppelin and this album is overrated. Those people are dumb. Banger after banger from start to finish.
Excellent all around.
Love me some acoustic Zep. Since I've Been Loving you and Bron Y'aur Stomp are two of my all time faves.
I realize it’s controversial but it’s my favorite Led Zeppelin album and I will not apologize for it
C’mon, it’s Led Zeppelin. How could it be anything but 5 star
Favorite!
Really enjoyed this album. I liked the variety between the tracks. Starts out strong with immigrant song then had some nice more acoustic tracks.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AH
Day 21: Led Zeppelin III - Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin Album 1/5. Ah, yes, The Led Zeppelin tetralogy. Led Zeppelin burst into the music scene like fire. Their run of four self-titled albums is impeccable, and I cannot think of any artists besides Peter Gabriel who came close to having a run of four self-titled albums like that. Some time ago, I believed that the most essential music one must listen to is the Led Zeppelin tetralogy (I now believe that The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd is even more essential than the Led Zeppelin tetralogy). The third album of the tetralogy is often regarded as the weakest one. However, I find it very difficult to rank the four albums, for they are simply so amazing. Led Zeppelin III features both Tangerine and Immigrant Song. Both of them are among my personal favourite Led Zeppelin songs. I love the more folksy structure of the album. It is very dynamic, and it flows very well. As usual, the instrumentation is fantastic. I believe that everybody should listen to Led Zeppelin's first four albums at least once. What a collection! Personal Enjoyment: 5/5. How Much It Belongs Here: 5/5.
more led zeppelin! and another contender for a legendary rock album that must be preserved for generations to come. from the moment the record starts till the millisecond it ends, this album is consistently good. sir robert plant is a wailer, and he's going to make sure his voice leaves a permanent mark in your brain. there's so much gold in these 40-something minutes... do these guys have a bad album?
Um clássico sempre será um clássico. A virtuosidade da guitarra impressiona demais!
It’s pretty righteous throughout - maybe top ten openings with Immigrant Song, but goes on to hit right on different registers.
Hard to not give this a 5 stars. Great songs. Immigrant song and Tangerine were classics in my music listening when in high school. I could always throw this album on for a listen.
I fucking love Led Zeppelin
Gallows Pole might be my favourite Led Zeppelin song.
I didn't expect the range shown on this album. The heavier rock and blues stuff I was completely expecting, but the folky and country stuff threw me a curveball. I really wasn't expecting banjo and mandolin, spoons (?) and bongos (?). The steel guitars was also a surprise but didn't seem that crazy. There's a lot of depth here, the harder stuff rocks, the slower stuff rocks, even the acoustic stuff has some experimental vibes and that all rocks.
I loved it so much. Listened to it all weekend. I had never listened to this full album before so it was a treat. I’m very much a fan of the folksy, acoustic, bluesy sides of Zep and this album offers it. If I could swap maybe Celebration Day and Hey, Hey What Can I Do? It might be a perfect album for me.
My favorite Zeppelin. Tangerine, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Immigrant Song. So varied and doesn't grow as stale as II and IV
Probably my favourite album as a teenager. Despite Bonhams squeaky drum peddle making the occasional appearance, an easy 5 stars.
Music of all times and all kinds.
4.7 2x catch up 1/6/25
5/7 Clasico
Good stuff
This is one of the first albums I bought. Judging by the year of release, it must have been relatively old at the time. But I thought the music was great, the cover art was fascinating and I had enough pocket money for it. Now, after a long time, I've listened to it again in its entirety. Even though I've rightly forgotten about it a bit, I still think it's great. Maybe I'll listen to it more often now. 5/5
Trying to wax poetic, but just simply want to describe this is, fantastic Rock N' roll for Rock N' Rolls sake. Metal, ballads, Pop Rock that doesn't reek of corporate radio engineered influence (even though it might). Will always remember a super random, yet enlightening introduction to SINCE I'VE BEEN LOVING YOU. While eating fries at the O in Oakland (Pittsburgh), a weathered woman sporting a mostly lit cigarette, drew this up on the jukebox. Not sure why it caught my attention; allowing a song to narrate what she was enduring in that moment. Was it a melodramatic examination from a 12(?) year old kid? Probably, but I can pinpoint that moment... and that's the power and grandeur of music.
A lot of great songs
Banging.
I have a little problem with Zeppelin... After many years listening to their songs, i'm not able to listen to a single album anymore! So thanks 1001albunsgenerator! You made me do a Zeppathon today... 5 stars of course.
"Led Zeppelin III" is the third album by English rock band Led Zeppelin. The band wanted to show they could play any style and upon a retreat to a Wales cottage, lead vocalist Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page wrote and created more acoustic and folk-based songs. They also used a wider range of instruments including synths, organs, mandolins banjos and spoons. Amazingly the album initially had mixed reviews but is now acknowledged as a turning point and milestone for the band. Commercially, the album hit #1 in the UK and US. Not all is acoustic and folksy as the band comes out roaring in "The Immigrant Song." Page and bands' driving riffs and beat. Plant's howling vocals. The song was inspired by a trip to Iceland and is about the Vikings' invasion of England. Page brings out the folk-acoustic guitar in "Friends." There's a pyschedelic edge. John Paul Jones adds a string arrangement. A moog synth connects directly into "Celebration Day." A monotone guitar drone gives way and the band kicks in. Lots of layered guitars. A great pace to this song. "Since I've Been Loving You" is their only bluesy jam on the album. It's slower with Jones on the organ. It's one of my favorite blues song from them. John Bonham wrote "Out on the Tiles." Once you know that, you really notice that he's really playing lead drums. Page and Jones follow his drum parts. A start-stop-start tempo. A very good deeper cut. The band stresses the acoustic on Side Two. "Gallows Pole" is a traditional English song. Acoustic guitar, banjo and mandolin. The song builds with the pace picking up. Backing vocals and Page on the electric guitar. The acoustic guitar sets the the mood for "Tangerine." One of the album's highlights as Plant's vocals are emotional. He layers them too. A dreamy electric guitar solo. The album closes with "Hats off to (Roy) Harper." Page's guitar has an interesting distorted sound, kind of fusing folk and psychedelia. Plant's vocals are fed through a vibrato amp. It's a blues covet and a tribute folk guitarist Roy Harper. This album goes through a number of styles: rock, folk, blues, folk and pyschedelic. The songs don't just rely on Page's guitar with the added strings, organ, strings, banjo, mandolin and even spoons (Soungarden was taking notes). Plant really showed his vocal range on the second, acoustic side not just relying on his howls. The band took some chances and mostly everything worked. I can't say it is most favorite Zeppelin but I do reach for it quite a bit. A great album.
A really good album. Probably not where I'd point someone just starting with zeppelin but I do think this has sole more of their restrained and thoughtful songs
Leading off with Immigrant Song is wild
Very Classic. To be honest, I didn't listen to it again because I know it so well. And it's hard to say much about it apart from it's very very good. The electric side vs the acoustic side is a neat idea. I mean... yeah! It's Led Zep 3! Maximum points. Five flaming zeppelins out of five.
Classic!
My friends called this the "guitarist album" which I never really understood. Just classic driving rock n blues
shit vad bra det här var. bara hört immigrant song innan. men since ive been loving you var ju en jäkla fullträff. gallows pole och thats the way, bron-y-aur stomp är också fett bra. jag gillar att det är lika olika stilar på låtarna och verkligen inte enformigt utan att det blir spretigt.
Nice
A classic for all eternity!
This is one of my all time favorites. Zeppelin at their most varied, including crushing blues, heavy metal, acoustic and folk. Since I've Been Loving You is among my all time favorites. 5⭐️
Just perfect. Especially played through. I love how you can see IV developing after the natural progression of the first three albums.
Led Zep records come in two varieties : A. This album FUCKS B. This is an album for nerds who read Books. Namely, Tolkien. Well, where does this one fall on the FUCKS - BOOKS spectrum? Ask the puddle on my chair
Rarely encountered in the wild, but now I have, yes, this is just excellent. I do not like the screaming vocals, they just annoy me, but the musicianship, of, so very very niiiiice. Thank you world. Another album to put into my 'i enjoy this very much' pile.
I love this album. As a coherent album, it's among their best. Every song is where it should be and flow seems nearly perfect. "Hats Off to Roy Harper" is the only track the album could really lose, but it's still a fun closer. The transition from "Friends" into "Celebration Day" might be my one of my favorite transitions ever, and still gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. I also always loved the spinning inner cover sleeve too!
The album's first track Immigrant Song is face melting and you spend the rest of the album recovering. I don't mind. Bron-Y-Aur-Stomp is a jam and my favorite. Solid.
This is my fave of the self titled zeppelin albums.
I’m pretty sure I said this when I got their 2nd album, but Zeppelin is probably my favorite classic rock band. Something about their style just always clicks with me. This was 40 minutes of just fantastic music, and it makes me wish more classic rock acts clicked with me the way they do.
This may arguably be the weakest of their first four albums (for me), but hell if it isn't a masterpiece anyhow. Out of the gate with Immigrant Song is one of the strongest openers in all rock.
Unsurprisingly, very good.
First time I’ve listened to a Led Zeppelin album in full. Love the wide range of styles, especially vocals and guitar. The blues through-line particularly appeals to me and makes what would otherwise be a somewhat scattered mix of songs cohere. Listening notes: (1) I was today years old when I realized that “Immigrant Song” is not by Rush (lel). (2) Celebration Song sounds like it could be on White Stripes’ self-titled (‘99); I never appreciated the LZ influence on Jack White. (3) Tangerine <3.
Spoiler: Led Zeppelin 1-4, Houses of the Holy and PG are all 5/5 for me. This is the second LZ album we’ve had and this one falls a little short of Physical Graffiti. Reading this was received with some hesitation from critics because they started branching away from strictly hard rock, which hadn’t occurred to me having consumed all this music in no particular order. I think as a result of adding the new genres this one in particular did feel a little disjointed at times. Led Zeppelin rules.
In some ways this exercise has greatly expanded my musical taste, but it’s also been great to re-confirm what I already knew. Which is that Led Zeppelin fucking rocks. You can clearly tell they’re making a conscious effort not to rock so hard, minimizing the heavy drums, the feral moaning of Robert plant, and screaming solos. But it doesn’t matter. They can’t help it. It still rocks.
Just before we started our 1000 albums journey, I went through LZIII. This album is different and eclectic. I genuinely appreciate the mix of ROCK, true blues and rock folk more than I wouldve expected. I think what stands out the most is the final 4 tracks. From Tangerine all the way to Hats Off, im totally sunk into the grooves and forget that its some mega band. They really showed they capability to span genres and bring new and firey energy to whatever they did. 5 stars because its gotten better with each listen.
Of the two we’ve gotten so far, I prefer Physical Graffiti by quite an bit. At the time I didn’t really enjoy that album but it’s one of my top replays overall since. This is an interesting side of LZ with the shift to more acoustic guitar-led songs. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the rhythm section a bit in the back half, it just doesn’t rock as hard as PG, but it’s nice as an album that stretched their sound. Tangerine is one of my favorites, and have always loved Immigrant Song. The slow burn to the peak of Since I’ve Been Loving You into Tiles hits so hard. Cool as hell to think about Page and Plant, fresh off a huge tour, hanging out at a family cabin off the grid, going on walks by the pond and writing many of these songs together. The classic rock junkies in this group will have more interesting takes here I’m sure. I’ll just be over here listening to Pere Ubu.
There are song on here that I thought I knew. I knew titles and associated them with other songs. I really don’t know these songs like I thought I did. Apparently all I really know is I, II, and IV. This album sounds so much more produced than IV. It’s kinda wild that they stepped back sound wise. Tangerine is probably my favorite song on this album. Ok, it might me Bron-Y-Aur stomp. Wow is this a great album.
Frábær plata. Welcome to the 70's segi ég nú bara. Legendary upphafslag, samið á Íslandi eftir vellukkaða tónleika. Ekki eins mikið rúnk og ég bjóst við af þriðju plötunni. Trommurnar eru náttúrulega númer 1,2 og 3 í þessu.
Great to listen. But again I can't add anything to the conversation. Classic.
The most bluesy album Zeppelin put out. It doesn’t have as many of their biggest songs, Immigrant Song is probably the biggest song off of it, but there are so many great tracks. My favorite album of theirs and, in my opinion, the most underrated.
This is the album where Zeppelin learned to harness their superpowers
- .... seriously. -
There are better bands in their era but not sure there is one as popular
One of the strongest openers to an album imaginiable. Incredibly solid. I've always found the band's self assessment of "we just played the blues really fast" such an undervaluing of themselves.
Songs I Liked the Most: Gallows Pole and Tangerine (an all time favourite song) Songs I disliked: None The second half of this album is *chefs kiss* and the first half is great too. Actual Rating: 5 stars and one I already own
AMazing and Classic Album. This one would get 5 stars for Immigrant Song alone.
Possibly my favorite Zeppelin album? As I said about Sabbath 4, you know a band is good when they can take their foot off the gas a little bit and not lose any of the horsepower. So much nuance here, and every moment is pure glory.
Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but if you don’t like this album, your opinion is wrong. 5/5 Highlights: Immigrant Song Since I’ve Been Loving You Gallows Pole Tangerine That’s the Way
I used to have this on vinyl when I was 14 😭 LOVE
Perfection Standout tracks: - Immigrant song (one of the best songs of all time) - Since I've been loving you - Gallows pole (OBSESSED) - Tangerine (chills, especially bc it's so misty outside today) - That's the way (once again, chills)
This is not my favorite Led Zeppelin record, but it is still great. Need to go back and re-listen to I and II but I feel like III is where the band started showing the range they were capable of.
No notes.
Not my usual go to Zeppelin but listening to it today I don't know why. So good.
It's not in me to give this album any less than the five stars it deserves. Adding it to my Tidal library.
When giants walked the earth…. This is the stuff of legend!
Zeppelin at their Folkie Best! A++++++++++++++++
Vibe
I've had the LP a long time, great record, "Since I've Been Loving You" one of my all-time faves.
It's not my favourite Zeppelin album by any means, but it's still one of the best heavy rock / blues rock / folk rock albums ever made. Immigrant Song, Since I've Been Loving You, Gallows Pole, Tangerine ... just so much really high quality stuff.
Great music from the Led.
A classic. Tangerine - perfect song to end the classic Almost Famous movie.
Fantastic, took me back to about '73 when I started listening to real music and carrying albums from The Other Record Shop and Greyfriars Market in my oxter ❤️🍌🍌
Fun album - a little lighter than the first two albums. I know, starting off with Immigrant Song isn't "lighter" but the album does slide into more laid back fare after that. Apparently folks don't like "Hats off to (Roy) Harper" but I think it's a fitting end to the album. Easy highest rating, but I really like Led Zeppelin too.
Such a great sound
Fabulous album, a true classic. Blues, rock, the works - it's a masterpiece.
Might be my favorite Zeppelin album. Contains more acoustic tracks than pretty much any other Led Zep album, but I think they’re at their strongest here. Gallows Pole, Tangerine and Hats off to Roy Harper are all great songs.
Obsessed!
Good album with plenty of Zeppelin classics, Gallows Pole being the standout track.
10/10. What an utter masterpiece. Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest bands of all time. A lot of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs are on this absolute STUNNER of an album!!! :)
Zep-heads who put III at the bottom of their stack might reconsider. They push you off a cliff with the seminal viking invective opener, planting their flag at the very summit of heavy metal (evermore). Allowing a moment of recovery with a strangely appropriate middle-eastern groove that not only presages the mighty Kashmir but pulls the persian rug out from under you with its hippy-dippy lyric, which, in the hands of anyone but Robert Plant, would alienate any previous fans and drive away any future ones. You have now been soothed into acceptance for the rest of this utter masterpiece as you glide into one of the absolute gems of their back catalog, Celebration Day. Peace and love, my friends, peace and love. But don't get too comfortable, cause here comes the fiercest blues the band has ever done (or will ever do, fight me). I listened to Since I've been Lovin' You yesterday and I'm still trying to recovery. OH THE PAIN as if Bonham was hammering nails into your head. And it just gets better. Gallows Pole, Out on the TIles, Bron-Y-Aur, what a ride. The eclecticism here is pretty astounding, always with that incomparable rhythm section. Never again will we see (hear) such a thing. Frosting that cake with the weird Hat's Off to (Roy) Harper... this still leaves me wondering. It's one of those albums you can listen to a thousand times and still hear something new every time. Starting to think Zeppelin never made a bad record. I just lied, I've always thought that.
It's Led Zeppelin. Let it play the entire day. 5/5
Outstanding record and a big time curveball with all the acoustic songs. A big departure at the time from their first two records. Outstanding!
banger
It starts off with one of the most renowned songs in all of classic rock: Immigrant Song. Led Zeppelin doesn’t stop there moving on next song Friends which shows off the Middle Eastern influence and follows with Celebration Day, which was aptly named after their 2007 reunion concert. Since I’ve Been Loving You is is a Britain-meets-Clarksdale blues ode which may or may not have been ripped off. Side 2 with the medieval Gallows Pole and the ethereal song That’s the Way that looks at the last of innocence to racial bias. My personal favorite song on the album (hard to pick) is Tangerine which has the best 20-note solo of all time. In the annals of the Best Classic Rock albums of all time Led Zeppelin III is definitely sitting there right before Led Zeppelin IV .
Led Zeppelin III was always a bot of a funky album compared to I, II, IV, and Houses of the Holy. It doesn't quite flow the way the others do with it's rock, then acoustic switch back and forth. It's still an absolute gem. "Immigrant Song" might be the most well known Zepp song of all-time and is kinda of their theme song. I always sort of gravitated to "Gallows Pole", "Tangerine", and "That's the Way". Those are the meat of this album for me! I do love Bron-Y-Aur Stomp too. Ryder!!!! I could do without Hats off to Roy Harper though. Minor complaint for an otherwise amazing album. Hammer of the Gods!!!!
Gademit hvað þessi plata er góð. Rennur í æðum mér frá upphafi.
I’ve always liked what I knew of Led Zeppelin but I’ve definitely been sleeping on them because I really loved this album. Their guitar work, particularly the acoustic, is very *them* and I think Robert Plant has one of my favorite voices in rock. Tangerine was a standout for me on this
Gema
Led Zeppelins first four albums are exceptional and if you ask someone which one is their favorite there's no wrong answer. This is an album everyone should listen to.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AH!
The tightest of all the Zep albums, in my opinion. No filler whatsoever. Nothing but solid tunes from front to back. Know every note.
I love them 😍 I can’t say anything bad about them😍
Love it
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Sometimes i cannot believe thet Led Zeppelin is a real band, because how does anyone make music like this?? Great album! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic album
Even bad Led Zeppelin is great
Культовый альбом. Ни добавить ни прибавить
\"Immigrant Song\" might be the best album opener ever. This remains a timeless classic for good reason. A complete banger!
It's probably an unpopular opinion, but to me this is the best Led Zeppelin album by a wide margin. There's so much depth and variation to the music here. The band that took heavy metal to the mainstream here demonstrates what else they could do. What's a better environment for a metal band (given that hell isn't an actual option) than a cottage in the middle of nowhere with no electricity or running water? That setting influenced a blend of heavy rock, acoustic blues, and other styles. Many panned this album upon its release, as too confusing and varied, and it never quite recovered to reach the celebrated heights of the other self titled releases. While later Led Zeppelin work owes a lot to these experiments and would come to be celebrated, 'Led Zeppelin III' remains a hidden gem, with only the opening track, 'Immigrant Song' (rightfully) loved. But for me, the entire thing is brilliant and engaging, and still my favorite.
Beauty! I’m so glad there was still some Zeppelin left in the tank this far into my journey. Immigrant Song alone makes this an instant 5 star album. They bring the heat, every time.
#308. I could probably just say the same thing for all the Zeppelin albums on here. They're all fantastic, and there's not really any part of any of them that is bad or boring. Also, Tangerine is one of my favorite songs of theirs. That bass line usually get stuck in my head for a while after I listen to it. You know you're doing it right when you've got a guitarist like Page, and the bass is the part that sticks out. 5/5: perfect
Pure quality
Classic zeppelin sound, almost every track is notable, definitely an essential listen.
The least overplayed and so the most fresh to listen to of Led Zeppelin's first 4 albums was always my favorite growing up. You get the big riffy rockers (Immigrant Song) and the blues guitar/vocal workouts (Since I've been Loving You), but the acoustic folk driven stuff on the second half is the best, from the driving mandolin on Gallows Pole to the tender 12-string psychedelia of Tangerine, jangly stoned dream That's the Way, and traditional Bron-Y-Aur Stomp. But it's not actually as great as I remember it being not having listened all the way through in a few years. They take this combination of sounds a lot further on Houses of the Holy where it fits the peaks of arena rock glory.
This is the beautiful thing about this app. I knew imigrant song but never heard all the other songs and they were just amazing. I look forward to hearing way more. I love the blues sound then others were just a jam. Loved it all!!
Is it cheap to give every Zeppelin album a 5? Maybe, but to me they are all really great and have been listening to them for all my life. Even if this is weaker album in their catalogue it's still what I want outta them.
The underrated champ! This is where the band transformed from amazing rock band to amazing at every genre. Half of this album is experimental rock songs and the other half is experimental folk. The combination is amazing and although I prefer the first half both are really well done. The opening is iconic being Immigrant Song which is one of the bands most popular. For me the albums peak is at Since I've Been Loving You. It's perfect from it's infectious guitar rift to Bonham's legendary drumming and maybe Robert Plant's best vocal performance. The ending of the album is one of the most hated Zeppelin songs and I understand why. Personally it's fine and doesn't ruin the album but does leave a bad last impression. Although it isn't everyone's cup of tea, this album is still amazing and a great stepping stone to get to Zeppelin's best album. Favorite songs: Immigrant Song, Friends, Since I've Been Loving You, Out On The Tiles, Gallows Pole, Tangerine
Immigrant song - absolute cracker. Undoubtedly the album starts off with its best song. The riff and drive of the song is brilliant. Everyone has heard it. This is what people think when they think zeppelin. Friends, celebration days and since ive been loving you are belters as well. Since ive been loving you is another top tune. 7 minutes of really good stuff. The finger picking in Gallows pole reminds me of a old folksong type tune. Tangerine. Its a real grower. I like it. Theres a good mix of electric driven songs and acoustics/strings. More towards the latter id say. Not something most people would think of when they think zeppelin. This album is a grower. I listened to it a few times. Loved it in the end.
wow josh kiszka sound great here- [someone whispers frantically at me from offstage] what? stole it? oh.
Not as good as I or II but still an easy 5 stars.
I've always found that my favorite Zeppelin album is the one I'm currently listening to/listened to most recently.
very good love led zeppelin
Banger
Classic Zep
nedd to say something? masterpiece
An another Leddy and a banger. How does he keep doing it??! anyway was good not as good as the other one but good. 8/10.
One of the best albums ever made. Love it
Love it!
Just some excellent classic rock.
III? That's what I'm talking about! Such an underrated album full of songs that deepen their lore. This album is about everything from dogs, darkly comedic folkloric tales, Lord of the Rings shit, friendship, and dripping with the influence of their 18th century cottage environment. LZ needed a break from blistering electric bangers, and if they were to stay around for the longhaul, they needed to showcase more depth. Not without their aptitude for electricity, however, they came away with some all-time bangers such as Immigrant Song, Tangerine, & Celebration Day. Honestly if the heavy rock fans only got Immigrant Song out of this album, and the rest was exclusively acoustic medieval folk with mandolins & lutes, could they still even complain? That song is insane, one of the highest-impact heavy rock songs ever made.
Ooh, now this should be interesting. As I've have said before, I don't possess a proper LED Zeppelin album, though I have several compilations. So ther were some new ones to me on here. For a general overview it amazes me just how versatile they were as a band. From the more progressive 'Immigrant Song' to the full blues of 'Since I've Been Loving You' and the folk or roots music of 'Gallows Pole' they move between genres with consummate ease. Even the tracks I hadn't heard previously fell on the ears like old friends. Incidentally, one of these is 'Hats Off To Harper', and if this collection does not include at least one album from the man who was such an influence on bands like LED Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, but include artists like Beyonce, it will invalidate the whole concept of this 1001 albums thing. I think you know by now how many stars 🌟 I'm giving this. 10.
My favourite Led Zep album hands down. Just every track is great. Friends is awesome. Since I Been Loving You is epic. Out on the Tiles has one (or three?) of Page's best ever riffs and enjoyable time signature which bounces about. The acoustic side is glorious. Tangerine and Bron-Yr-aur in particular.
I've heard a lot of fans knock this album for being "Immigrant Song and a bunch of boring acoustic stuff". Rubbish. Although not quite bearing the "classic" status of I, II, or IV, this album is arguably the best in terms of raw songwriting. And while there are fewer distinctive riffs on the electric guitar and bass than usual (thus lacking one of the key elements of Led Zeppelin music), the actual instrumental skill is possibly the most consistently impressive, especially from Jimmy Page. I also think this album showcases Robert Plant's most impressive vocals on any single track, with the stunning semi-epic Since I've Been Loving You. In that song, Plant's rock scream is the perfect balance between his early otherworldly youthfulness and his later manly husk. Other songs, like Out On The Tiles, Gallows Pole, Immigrant Song, and Celebration Day further showcase this vocal. Then of course we have the iconic stadium-shaker Immigrant Song, with its heavy, octave-based riff and foreboding chord progression. Friends is most notable for its odd, horror-esque string melodies, juxtaposing the kid-friendly lyrics. Tangerine is arguably Led Zeppelin's best early ballad (giving Going To California and Thank You a run for their money), containing the rare vocal self-harmonising and a pretty acoustic guitar pattern. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is a solid jam, with slightly odd mixing that half-buries the vocals – but I'll give it a pass because it's insanely catchy. Hats Off To (Roy) Harper is really the only stinker on the album. It's a fiesta of terrible echoey vocal/guitar effects with little substance and no actual reference to Harper. I suspect most of the hate towards Led Zep III comes from this single track, because pretty much everything else is pure fire. 5/5 Key tracks: Immigrant Song, Since I've Been Loving You, Out On The Tiles, Tangerine, That's The Way, Gallows Pole, Friends, Celebration Day, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
9/10
Good album. This album just keeps on giving & it's probably my favourite of their self titled releases. I think they hit a great balance here between folk and rock & it slaps so much. Best Track: Since I've Been Loving You Worst Track: Hats Off To (Roy) Harper
One of their best, high 4s so giving it a 5.
