Album 872 of 1089 The Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole (1997) Rating : 1.5 / 5 If I was a fan of electronica, I’m sure this would hit the right spot - but I’m not, so it just doesn’t do much for me. I can respect the energy and the style, and I know it has its place for those who enjoy the genre, but it’s just not where my ears want to be. Cheers to those who do connect with it - me, I’m already heading on down the road to the next one.
1.5
I’m not usually the biggest fan of “robot music” and this was no exception. It wasn’t good robot music like Daft Punk, it sounded more like the shitty techno beats I made using loops in year 8. I think my one song was better than this whole album (I am definitely biased).
Horribly repetitive.
1/5
That last track did its best to save this album from its fate. 57 minutes too late, I'm afraid
Can’t remember what album I said this about last time but “YoU WouLDn’T DowNLoaD a CAr” vibes. Just not for me although I can imagine it’d go alright for studying. (1.5 stars)
This is genuinely awful. I’m only two songs into this album and I swear it’s been going on for 2 hours already. I don’t understand how anyone can listen to this music outside of people in a club. Seriously every single one of these songs needs to be 3 minutes shorter at a minimum.
leider überhaupt ned mis. de beat gat mir extrem ufd nerve, has ned chöne fertig lose.
Not my favorite. A little too techno for me.
Listening to this hurt my ears.
Not for me at all, was waiting for it to end
adri: DNF, quizas no es el mejor cd para un viaje por carretera en verano lleida-huesca, quizas una noche estando en un estado muy concreto, pero hoy no mar: DNF, antes me pego un tiro que seguir escuchando esto
No
Stop Just Stop STOP Do you need me to be even more repetitive so you will actually pay attention?
Probably would have been more enjoyable if I were high. Then again that's probably the case for most albums
Oh dear christ where to begin. This is just noise. It’s not music. It’s loud noise. I hated every second of this ear-piercing garbage. Worst thing I’ve heard so far on here. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Who actually listens to this and thinks “yeah this sounds good”?
Fun drum beats, but far too much like club music and too repetitive for my liking
Really did not like this one. Generally not a big fan of electric music and this one felt so repetitive and long, nothing really stood out to me.
Day480 - lots of people probably enjoy this and maybe in a club it’s fine. listening in the car going to work it gave me a headache.
This gave me nervous ticks and made me aggressive when it was new and fresh and exciting. It's no longer new nor fresh, and seems a bit formulaic in hindsight (which I know is a bit unfair). It still gives me nervous ticks and makes me aggressive, though.
Fundgrube für Soundbastler und Jingleproduzenten. Als Musikalbum eher mau.
1,5/5⭐ bati estaca sem letra
TOUGH listen. It's obviously a praised album and band, but not a fan of the type of music. Ok, I had to stop listening after Setting Sun. This was torture for me. 1/5.
I didn't understand what happened here. A very crazy trip, but it didn't bring me any feelings or even make me want to dance. Meh.

I didn't do drugs and go to raves in the 90's, so I hate this crap.
Mostly boring and or unpleasant to listen to. 90s trance is definitely not my thing. Maybe if I was running or doing the dishes?
Booooo!!
This album is for club kids or a Grand Theft Auto soundtrack, it is not an album to just listen to. Definitely NOT a must hear.
What’s that? I’ve said there’s too much electronica on this list too many times? Well maybe that should make you think about how much electronica is on this list
Nö! Mist!
Too sober to listen to this. The beats are rough in most songs and the last 2 minutes of Where Do I Begin are just trash.
Had high hopes for this one but it failed me. Too tiresome and repetitive. For the first half hour the same song continued seamlessly under different aliases. That might have continued throughout but I wouldn’t know because for the second half hour I was skipping to the next track after a minute or two.
2.5/10 Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope
The minute this album started I got the feeling that every single track could probably be used in a movie for a car chase and I was right. I guess is okay if you listen to one or two tracks but the whole thing is pretty tiring.
Nervig. Nicht eingängig. Langatmig.
As most electronic music, repetitive and boring,
Can I give this shit a 0?
Many songs get really annoying. Nothing goof stood out
Terrible! Gave me a headache! Glad when it ended!
This album was like a bad trip, annoying, repetitive, come the last stretch all I wanted to do was curl up somewhere dark, not think and wait for it all to be over. Having listened to the (I hope only) Beth Ortan album on this list, I was not excited to hear her again, and even as someone who disliked Central Reservation, this was a waste of Beth Ortan. The most interesting thing about Central Reservation was the lyrics and here you’ve got her using the line ‘Where do I start? Where do I begin?’ Radiohead were able to do something with that lyric, but they subverted it, and they had decent music behind it, something with dynamics that didn’t just repeat the same chords over and over before devolving into irritating dissonant noise. Emil Cioran himself couldn’t produce a statement as Nihilistic as repeating ‘It Doesn’t Matter’ ad nauseam over a boring, boring, boring beat. I can’t tell you what listening to a monotone voice chanting ‘It Doesn’t Matter’ over and over again to that stomach-churningly repetitive beat for 6 full minutes while sitting on a dark beach, staring at the waves dragging rocks down into the briny depths does to a motherfucker, but I can tell you that I sure as shit am not gonna kill myself to the fucking Chemical Brothers. They don’t deserve the satisfaction. Ian Curtis killed himself to Iggy Pop! When I commit suicide, I’m going to have to do it to fucking Metal Machine Music or something
Truly, truly terrible!!!
Terrible, forgettable, painful. Like an explosion in a car alarm factory!
1/5
jesus, these guys have a hard-on for EDM. I tried, though. I really did.
No
No. 2/10
another annoying electronica album. didn't even finish all the way through. The genre just bores me to tears.
Another baffling choice for a Greatest list.
Really not my thing. I get the variety of different sounds used, but if a song is going to be over 5 minutes long at least add some more progression throughout. It got tedious to listen to. Incredibly boring.
This is just terrible repetitive shit. I hated this from start to finish.
Well that was painful. Repetitive, annoying and irritating and those were the best bits.
Unsurprisingly this is incredibly repetitive. For those that like this sort of thing at least they have some tunes but otherwise it is really really boring. Elektrobank is one of the worst songs ever to grace a No1 album. Also, "It Doesn't Matter" is too. This song is mind blowingly bad. No song has been this long and less whelming in the history of music.
This sounds like music that would play while I traveled through internet tubes in a digimon movie.
First listen Saved 0/11
not a fan
How does this even make top 1001 albums ever? I could barely make it through this and it was trash.
Must be nice to record 40 seconds of music and then loop it for 45min to make an album. Awful garbage. I could make this music on GarageBand in my sleep
hey what do you think are the brothers' favourite kind of chemicals ionic compounds? intermetallic? I think they appreciate a good crystalline lattice
Refused to finish. I don't have any interest in this kind of music.
Club music.
hate this
20 seconds of "Block Rockin' Beats" are worth listening from this album because there is nothing remarkable more to come! Repetitive, boring and too long to be enjoyable anyway. 🙉 Really can´t understand how this album could top the charts. 🤦♂️ Dig a hole for this!😉 1,5
I'm presuming you have to take some sort of drug to be able to listen to this.
YMT kept giving me RMS My Generation EP so did not listen
If you like repetitive agressive boring music that might be for you. But be aware that they do nothing of those thing quite well. 1 stars
Still not vibing with the electronica fusion crap.
Psychedelic and mumbling. Bad.
Nope
Nah
I hate that crap
Nicht meine Richtung
Closest I can get to this is Sirius by The Alan Parsons Project…
I guess I just don’t get it. That is not music that I would ever choose to listen to. It hit #1 in England….so there are people that really like it. I am not one of them.
Really couldn’t vibe with it. Just not big on electronic stuff some songs felt really long. Maybe in a club I’d vibe but don’t find myself listening to this album on my own.
Interminable.
Didn’t listen
Some interesting bass lines, and I like the phasing parts. But all in all, this album really isn't for me. I'm not a fan of electronic heavy music, or music that relies on loops, and this heavily leans on both.
Ich bin gespannt… Ja, geht okay los. So elektronisch halt. Hm, nervt gerade eher so ein bisschen. Probiere später noch mal. Ne, das ist nix für mich. Keine Ahnung, wieso man sowas zu Hause anhört.
Unstrukturierter Psychedelic Rock.
Bum bum unzi unzi.. Sgu ikke lige mig haha, giver meget Tony Hawks plat tidlig ps2 vibes
Not for me really, could maybe have a time and a place (gym/exercise) but it did not keep me engaged or bothered so I would choose others over this. Probably won’t ever listen to it again 1/5.
1/5 too progressive for my taste. not my cup of tea
I was wondering when someone would be back with another one of those block rocking beats. Turns out, today was the day. And by today, I mean 1997, when this record was blasting in some eastern block, post-soviet prison, being used to torture the dissidents. As my mother would say, "It's WAY TOO LOUD!"
Not for me. Boring. Repetitive
“That was extraordinary. Unfortunately, extraordinary bad.” - Simon Cowell Late night twitch stream thats not good enough to dance too.
When I started this project I was not anticipating that it would be 500 Albums You Need To Hear Before You Die and 501 Electronic Albums That Are Too Goddamn Long And Repetitive And Will Give You A Migraine.
Unless you are dancing, this is utterly pointless. You can't sit and listen to this, it's not really music.
Not my style....
Actually listened to this one before. While I do enjoy some Chemical Brothers, I prefer more of their electronic/chill and vocal performances, and less of their breakbeat style songs.
I never got into the techno/electro genre back in the day (mid-90s to mid-2000s). There was some of it that I could at least appreciate, but this doesn't fall into that category. It's overly repetitive. It's music for raves. Maybe if I had a necklace made of glow sticks and a pocket full of ecstasy I'd feel differently.
A song or two had catchy riffs. Not sure how someone could listen to the whole album through. Not sure what mindset i would need to be in.
not my thang not my thang not my thang
Not a fan
I love electronic music but this album is just boring and repetitive. Take one idea, make it loud add some sound effects. Okay, next track. Take one idea, make it loud, add some sound effects. Okay, next track. Take one idea, make it loud, add some sound effects. You get the picture. By the time I got to the end of the album where they changed it up a little I was already angry and frustrated for losing an hour of my life to this. I’m going to go listen to some Squarepusher now and try to forget that I ever heard this album.
Not my bag. It felt like that prickly feeling when your foot falls asleep but in my brain.
This is the closest I have come to not finishing an album. Hell no
Way too agressive
Too long and too much weird electronic stuff on this list.
An hour of hip-hoppy beats with very little melody or lyrics
Did not enjoy
I just hate it. I'm sure it has its place, I'm not there.
Absolutely not my kind of music!
As with Exit Planet Dust the first track is six minutes too long. They have twiddled a bit more on the FM synthesiser, without actually producing anything of note. A complete lack of inspiration on the drum machine programming and trite vocal effects do not a good record make Again I forced myself to listen to at least 1 minute of each track - I must have a masochistic streak - and I found absolutely nothing worth listening to.
It's electro or techno or house music or dance or whatever you want to call it. It's not for me. Just too repetitive and the songs don't really go anywhere or evolve.
(1.5) Ketamine?
this album was about an hour and two minutes too long. everything about it made me mad- the last song sounds like there’s construction going on. the electronic sounds were in no way pleasing. definitely 1/10.
ni siquiera pude obligarme a terminar de escuchar este álbum debido a lo extraño del mismo. no me gusta, no lo entiendo y creo que estoy más feliz sin intentar oirlo completo
Very repetitive. Sorry, not my jam at all.
I like some industrial, but this was not great. I remember when this album came out. I didn't get it then, I don't get it now, and I don't understand the cultural relevance, especially in 2022.
Super monotone
Hefði varla hlustað á þessa plötu ótilneyddur, þar af síður klárað hana. Fannst hún allt í lagi í byrjun en svo varð hlustunin bara pirrandi.
Just not my thing.
i dont even remember it.
Think I'm completely the wrong audience for this album. Half of it just sounds like a metronome to me.
I didnt like it. The base is too repetitive
So disappointing. One of the worst albums I've come across in a while.
Don't like. At all.
Muzyka elektroniczna w takim wydaniu przyprawia mnie o ciarki, a plyta dosc obszerna, bo ponad godzinny odsluch, wiec nie bylo to zbyt przyjemnie doswiadczenie, ale i takich albumow trzeba posluchac, bandy, a raczej duetu, chemicznych braci nie kojarze, zaden z trakow nie rzucil mi sie na uszy, ze gdzies juz go slyszalem, no ale taki gatunek techniawy brejkbitowej lub big beatowej, jak zwal tak zwal, bo nie potrafilbym odroznic jednej od drugiej, tak jak jednego od drugiego kawalka tej plyty nie jestem w stanie okreslic czyms wiecej niz daje lubudubu, sampluje cos tam i tak szybko wali po uszach, najbardziej przyjazny mi traczek, nawiazujacy do murzynskich technik tworzenia beatow, to get up on it like this, przede wszystkim ze wzgledu na wykorzystanie skreczy i murzynsko brzmiacego sampla, wiec to bedzie traczek na plejke jak znalazl, zeby takie techniawowe perelki nie zginely w otchlani listowej
Electronic album that feels like a 90s European club. 2.1/10
Had to skip through most of this. I'm not really sure what genre this is, but whatever it is it's not for me. Picked Get Up On It Like This as my fave because it's the shortest.
Bro not epic, instrumental was cool but not enough vocals and the vocals were bad regardless. Too much screaming
Sounds like the Matrix. Ehh
Not good. Weird electric stuff and not fun.
Oh for some decent music
1.8. I dont care for this.
Nee.
Terrible music
Awful
not my type of tunes
Don’t really like dance music
No
This is more suited for a soundtrack to a heist film than for active listening. Not something I need to listen to before I die.
electronica, not my thing
Solid 4, not a bad follow up to EPD, but loses a point on the basis of Noel
Nice
The album just doesnt gel for me. Theres something way too manufactured about it, like it has no soul
