- Doesn't hold up .... Perry Farrell has to be high up the list of vocalists (I use the term VERY loosely here) who annoy the fuck out of you .... and, frankly, musically very boring. -

Not for me!

Musically this is pretty good, but Perry Farrell's voice ruins it.

I was looking forward to this but it was a bit of a let down. Perry's voice grinds now in a way I don't recall it doing in the 90s. I'm getting old...

Well one or two was good Rock

Jane Says 2 stars

Thank god there’s a 10 minute song on this album

Räjähtävä lähtö, tykkäsin! Mutta tunti on levylle liikaa mittaa. Menee liian junnaavaksi loppua kohden. Kokeilut, esim. se arabiahomma, ei piristä vaan lähinnä ihmetyttää… Pari taustalla kuuluvaa kilinää ehkä vähän herätti huomion. Been caught stealing oli lähinnä sietämätön.

# Album Name: Ritual De Lo Habitual # Artist: Janes Addiction # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: First Jane's album. I was expecting big big things based on their reputation. Came away feeling very disappointed. I'll come back and give them another shot but for now it was very underwhelming. I just cant see the appeal. # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? I'll give it another shot

might be able to hear an influence of Siouxsie and the Banshees filtered through the worst guys in Los Angeles?

1 star for the annoying vocals. 3 for the music

Saved from 1 by Been Caught Stealing

This has it's moments, but it mostly felt disjointed. Which I'm guessing is because it was a weird mix of elements from 80's rock and experimentation of sounds that become prominent in the 90's.

Pre-listening thoughts: oh dear… can we get something with chiller vibes soon? Been a lot of heavy rock lately Post/during listening thoughts: ugh god yeah not a fan of this. Hateee the lead singer’s voice. I’ve been giving out so many twos lately. Really wish that was not the case like 😭 can’t I have a streak of fours? Fives???? I’d even take a streak of threes and just like tolerable midness versus borderline bad stuff. 3.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Been Caught Stealing Least fav tracks: Ain’t No Right, Three Days

Tried to like this, failed.

Damn, this one disappointed me. I knew the singles, of course, but Jane's Addiction was always a band on the knife's edge of enjoyability for me, mostly thanks to Perry Farrell's voice which is a...taste I have not acquired. Overall, I thought I'd find more songs I liked here but a lot of the jam sessions and extremely weird and drawn out songs don't do anything for me the way that Stop or Been Caught Stealing do. If you subtract the songs I already knew and liked, the remainder isn't all that enjoyable for me.

Stop and Been Caught Stealing are cool. Vocal effect and style are notable. But what I’m realizing is I just don’t like 90’s rock (with Nirvana and RATM as exceptions) At its absolute best I’m vaguely interested. Might not be a brit pop thing after all and just a 90’s rock thing. It feels like they recycling what has been done hundreds of times and adding some aimless rebellion and angst. Makes me appreciate RHCP a bit more, compared to their contemporaries.

Navarro is obviously a filthy and creative guitarist, but I just don’t like these songs all that much, outside of been caught stealing. Seems more about the energy and attitude than the artistry of the songs themselves. Perry Farrell approaches every song the same - it works sometimes, but sometime it sounds like a hyperactive little brother intentionally trying to be annoying with all that high pitched squealing.

Tedious and a bit tuneless.

Psych rock is not really for me. Most of this album felt like a mess but there were a couple of songs I actually didn't mind.

Kinda just feels like noise, not really memorable

This was fine. Nothing outstanding. It was kinda grungey, but otherwise not overly interesting.

More polished Than the other Be admonished I don't want another

Coming off the back of Nothing's Shocking, there was nothing shocking here either. Quite like that they took more of a 'pop' twist here, with less of the heavy rock, but still not really my thing. One extra star for 'Stealing', which is fun.

TWO JA's albums, served up in two days? My head hurts. Been Caught Stealing soundtracks my student indie discos. I don't want to go back there. A guitar solo is still a sodding guitar solo, irrespective of who is wanking it out.

I have a few issues with this: firstly I don't like the singers voice And although the guitar playing is very accomplished, sometimes it seems unnecessarily showy and doesn't really fit the song. Like they're trying to show off rather than write cohesive music Then when you get to the longer songs in the second half it feels like a different album. It's a bit all over the place and I didn't really like it

I don’t hate it but I didn’t enjoy it

This may be Jane's Addiction but it's not mine. I found the cover art more interesting than the music.

JEAAA JEAA.. jeeeeeeeeee jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee YEA YEAAAA. EYAEYAYEYAYEAYYAEYA.. we dont give a hoot!! miten nämä ihmiset voivat olla miehiä jeesus three days

Decent music, not so decent vocals, a tale as old as, well, instruments…

You’ve got to be fuckin kidding me

So so.

omfg so irritating

Sooo meh

Never got this one.

It's definitely the vocals that killed this for me. Every time they were gone, or in the background, I was enjoying this album, but when they were to the fore, it was pretty awful. The beginning was generic to the point of being instantly forgettable. There was a good bit in the middle, with some of the longer songs, but then it just tailed off into dullness. I'm going with 2 stars for this one.

5.5/10 Some super nice guitar playing and solos that came in moments, but sort of lacked deeper feeling for me. Songs were interesting with a certain intensity but again could be lacking in that raw emotion that I wanted from them. Also not a massive fan of the vocals which felt a little on the whiney side. Had potential but just couldn't quite get into it.

Been caught stealing is one of my favorite 80s songs but the rest of the album doesn't seem great to me

Meh. I wanted to like it, but it felt like every time I heard something interesting, it led to a dead end. I know there's talent here... and lots of energy... but it just felt like a runny, chunky puddle that didn't set well overnight in the fridge...

I was concerned when I saw this pop up for today. I have never had any interest in listening through a James addiction album. I’m surprised I didn’t hate this more. In no way am I saying this was worth my time. I was just surprised this doesn’t fall into the 1 category. This album isn’t unlistenable, but it’s not really an enjoyable experience.

Let down mainly by awful singing, which was more like tuneless shouting. But even without it, the instrumentals were nice but nothing special

Just not for me!

Cover art did not match the music. Not really my style but some of it was alright.

Angry sounding album with weird sounds. Kinda liked some of it but not that much. Angsty

Didn’t hate this as much as I expected to

I enjoyed Been Caught Stealing but not a whole lot else. I'm just glad they're having fun

Hard Rock and experimental rock in memorian of the singers dead girl-friend.

The singer’s voice is just nails on a chalkboard to me so no way I was ever going to enjoy this much. 4/10

Jane's Addiction och Porno for Pyros har inte tillfört något till musikhistorien om vi bortser från Been caught stealing och Pets.

Was not at all fussed by this. Didn't hear a single song I thought was interesting. But as always with middling albums, I didn't hate anything

Oh that was so blahhhh. Just 'ROCK n ROLL' but nothing more. I also find it weird that a band of classic rocky men have so many albums with nude women on the covers, just a bit much.

Not for me

Oof. That was a tough listen for me. Album cover aside, jesus christ, there were maybe 5 minutes throughout the album where I went, "okay this is alright". It wasn't a complete mess and some of the instruments were pretty groovy in some parts so I'll give it a light 2. Not my thing.

Initial impression not great - slap base, weak shouty vocals and indulgent guitar solos. It picked up a little - with obvious/ been caught stealing. But can happily live without this in my life.

I found this album to be very annoying to listen to.

Funk punk band with classic rock ambitions with a charismatic but annoying singer for high energy, bloated thrusting. They have a very unique sound - the distinctive combination of vocal style and effects paired with the wash of guitar creates a huge expansive feel. The last third is the best. Exactly what the band of the host of a reality tv show about tattoos should sound like.

Dude’s got the voice of an annoying twerp. Generic songs.

There is something about this that is so obnoxious. Like they have written all the elements of what makes "rock" music and tried to stick them all in regardless of how good it sounds. As of it was a recipe for success. Which it ironically was. Their continuing appeal remains baffling. 2*

Just has an annoying vibe. Of Course is absolutely terrible

Why is Jane addicted to this? It's not that good

Not terribly fond of this album or the band. Overrated glam grunge, and listening to Farrell is like walking on hot coals.

Boring

Didn't like it

A pretty frustrating album ngl…and it gets worse as it goes on. The ten minute songs are agonizingly long, but I’d be lying if I said it all sounded bad. The songs have like no real significance but sound nice from time to time so I’ll give it 2 stars but it’s not my thing really

Songs i know: 1 Songs i like: 0 Some decent guitar stuff going on early on but just generally another Meh. I can imagine this type of band were ten a penny early 90s and RHCP won that race. Also Fuck been caught stealing because the dogs barking at the beginning set Polly off and took ages to chill her out.

I don’t like this. I really can’t get past Perry Farrell’s voice - he’s one of the most grating singers I’ve ever heard. Some of the tracks are alright - Obvious and Been Caught Stealing are highlights - but PF seems to suffer from Axl Rose syndrome where he has to be singing on every second of every song. Let Navarro have a proper solo my dude. It doesn’t groove, apart from Been Caught Stealing. Some of the tracks sound like each member is playing a different song and they all just did a weed for the first time. The whole thing is about as sexy the video of that guy squatting a glass jar up his ring. Three Days is actually pretty good, bit proggy. Loves me some prog. PF has taken a back seat on this track, which is nice as I fucking hate him. Overall, I didn’t love this. Couple of tunes on it, but not enough for me to get past Perry Farrell’s nails-on-a-blackboard voice. Decent tracks: Obvious, Been Caught Stealing, Three Days 2/5

Quite an annoying album overall. Perry Farrell comes across as a whiny douche on record and in real life. Didn't like the production, too tinny. Some good shreds and riffs at times but these were usually overshadowed by Perry Farrell waffling on about god knows what. Standouts: Been Caught Stealing Three Days - nice and jammy and lets Navarro do his things. Low Points: The whole album drifts into nothingness towards the end Then She Did... - good middle section but this has no place being 8 minutes long Of Course - the celtic fiddle was out of place and irritating On the whole. Didn't really like it but didn't hate it. They remind me of The Doors where people think they are cool but they are just really junkies who were lucky to be around a music scene that was happening.

Been Caught Stealing is doing a lot of heavy lifting for that second star. Bit druggie. Some nice bits of guitar work. However it’s disjointed for the majority of the album. I liked the little ode to Ian Durys “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll”

One trick ponies, and the singer's voice really grates on me after a few tracks. I'm slightly merciful because I kinda enjoy Been Caught Stealing

Been caught stealing still holds up - not sure if the entire album was too worthy of accolade, but it was OK.

The sound was a bit muddy and blah. The songs weren't very catchy and it didn't do anything to me emotionally. There wasn't anything here I really enjoyed. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to listen to it though and find out what Jane's Addition is all about.

Inte min grej men jag förstår varför folk gillar dom

Instrumentals are okay but vocals are like nails on a chalkboard

Nicht meins.

Personally was not a fan of the vocal performance or style, the instrumentation was good though. A lot of the songs were way too long and overstayed their welcome.

There worse ways to spend almost an hour, I suppose, but you at least get paid for most of them. I listened to this for free and Hegel nothing but regret

I can see why Jane is an addict. Anything to drown out the noise. That was probably harsh. But not for me. Simpsons: No

The singer and their usage in advertisements for jeans or cars or whatever give me the ick. I hear this obnoxious nasal pitch and think of a corporation that wanted a “rockin” song to push some products, that’s just my brain being busted. The drum and bass sections are pretty interesting on here though (2.5/5)

A bit too angry and noisy for me. I preferred their other album in the 1001 challenge from a few months ago.

It's very high pitched and whingy isn't it - maybe if I had some nostalgia too boost it up it would have been ok, but I've never been into Jane's Addiction.

Ive developed a real blind spot with this genre. Middle of the road american late 80's/early 90's rock seems like it was more about the angry/grungy vibe rather than any musical quality. Ive had countless albums where the vocal is poor, the sound is generic radio fodder for angry teens and they wash over me without any real value.

Crap album Whiney

Just one hit on this album and it was all I liked

Annoying whiny voice, but a couple of good tracks on there. Sounds like some early rap-metal cross over.

Rock, kinda harsh

I am not really a fan of this.

Noisy.

I really love the opener and the last two songs. Everything in between is a skip! Should have been a four song EP.

Most of the songs were just grating, off key, off beat yelling which doesn't appeal to me.

Mostly not feeling it. 2.4.

Fairly normal rock with some folky-ness, nothing really groundbreaking

Enjoyed the guitar in some of the songs. None of the vocals were for me. 2/5

ganz nett

2.5/5 - If you were to look at my music taste, you would assume I love Jane's Addiction, but the truth is I could never get on board, and I still can't - I got very bored towards the end, the songs are so unnecessarily long. Standout: - Three days 4/5

Another album that I just didn't fuck with. Not a fan of the vocals at all, too screechy. Some of the instrumentals just seemed to go nowhere. I didn't hate it but I ain't coming back. Fav songs: - Three Days

I was never a huge Jane's Addiction fan. This album is alright, not my favorite, not terrible. I'm not sure that I would seek it out again but I don't regret listening to it. It does remind me of sitting around with my school friends in the early 90's.

It felt long that. Longer than it actually was.

I got tattoos and a nipple piercing to look like Dave Navarro but I just look like a creep

Forgettable

Band was nice but man i cannot stand the singer's voice. It just sounds super whiny… kind of a precursor to the pop-punk singing style. Just not for me.

La verdad, solo he escuchado un. par de canciones. No pinta mal para nada, pero no es mi estilo

Ok, wow, I miss Perry Farrell so much and wish someone was moving the scene the way he did. That said, a difficult listen. Aside from Been Caught, which is beyond classic, it made his vision viable.

This wasn't really for me; the songs kind of blended together, except for the inspired Dave Navarro guitar solo on "Three Days."

Best Song: Been Caught Stealing. The high-pitched vocals really lend itself to the childish, petulant vibe of this song. Worst Song: Three Days. These boys weren't built for writing 10 minute epics. Overall: I just don't see what this band does better (or even as good) as its contemporaries. The music is less interesting, less sincere, and less fun than all the more famous bands of its era.

Had hier echt geen zin in

Not my genre. After half the album the novelty wore off. 2/5

I'm not sure what this album was meant to convey.

First 5 tracks feel like 1 unending song. Gets better and more interesting after that.

Most of this was alright. It's probably not something I would want to listen to again. I didn't think it was bad, just mostly unremarkable. I like the lead vocalist's voice, and I thought that the instrumentation and mixing was kept clean. I've always liked "Been Caught Stealing," and I also enjoyed "Of Course," it's as simple as that. Nice violin on that one. It's just a simple fact.

Unremarkable

A bit of a rambling mess

I know this probably unpopular to say but I was not a fan of this album. As a band they have had a huge impact on modern music and Perry Farrell has really impacted the greater music world. But it just felt grating on my ears (ain't no right). So much screaming voices vs a screaming guitar, it was just a lot.

I thought I would like this more than I did because I like the two hits on it. Those were really the only two songs I liked. And I was confused by the long songs and just wanted them to be over. This album didn’t do it for me.

I like how there are two 1-star reviews that begin with reviewing something else, speaks volumes about how captivating this record is. Without further ado, let us begin with "Stop", the visual novel (止まれ). First of all, it's a horror game, and I'm a scaredy-cat, so I lowered the volume to a bare minimum and can't really rate the scariness or anything audio related. The game loop is basically this: the story goes on until you face a choice. Wrong choice leads to a bad ending and takes you all the way back to the beginning, the other one progresses the story. If you would want to see all the bad endings, you would have to skip through the same scenes A LOT. Sometimes it feels a tad stupid when the right choices are "don't stop the car", then after one (uno) screen of text which doesn't really say anything substantial the right choice is "on second thought, stop the car". They stop the car to check the trunk, one of the characters says "maybe we shouldn't", and, you guessed it right, the correct choice is to get back in the car. The language is fairly simple, author sticks to short sentences, repeats the same words very often, which is a huge plus for me as I'm not nearly good enough to read more convoluted Japanese. I don't have much experience with the genre, but it seemed like a generic ghost story. Still, held my attention, I theorized about how it would end and how the characters are connected. Was satisfied with the ending, it made sense, which is rare for mystery genre. The art style is a bit scuffed but it suits the game well, looks creepy enough to pretend it's intentional. Overall, 3/5. Not something I would recommend to anyone, but it's really short (if you know the language, you can finish it in like 1-2 hours I think) and rather interesting. Oh, right, the album. Three Days was alright.

Jane’s Addiction is kind of annoying

A bit too methy for me. I could not get into it.

Weird Cover... Been Caught Stealin is a classic. Otherwise, nothing to write home about. I feel like if I were born a bit earlier, like the Gen Xers, I would have probably appreciated this band more. I can only take the voice in small increments.

An alternative rock album that deserves that name. There are a lot of interesting concepts and songs on there, but none of them stood out to me. On top of that the singing isn't really my cup of tea its all very nasaly. Maybe I'll revesit this later.

Пара мест интересные, но в целом вообще не моя чашка чаю

Music would be good if it weren't for that (v/n)oice

Close to being good but not quite

I wasn't struck by the alt-rock vibes initially, but the album took an unexpected turn from track 6 onwards and I began to take notice. A quick Google led me to learn the final 4 tracks were in memoriam of the lead singer's girlfriend who had died of a heroin overdose. Harrowing stuff. Of Course was the standout track with its Middle Eastern influences. Classic Girl with its acoustic undertones came a close second. It's tough to rate this one, I feel 2 is too low and 3 is too high. I'm sticking with 2 for the pure fact that their style is not really my cup of tea, but I can absolutely respect the musicianship, songwriting and sentiment behind this record.

It has one of those voices that you either like or it annoys you, unfortunately it’s the latter for me

I was never a big fan of these guys

Harder than I usually go, but if this isn't the definition of shredding some mad guitar (Dave Navarro's performance is the highlight of the record), I don't know what is! From the jump, this album has it's dial set to 10,000; impressive instrumentals (especially the percussion and seldom used strings), as well as how the songs are constructed to showcase both the headbanging vocals as well as the instrumentalists; the album art is alluring, and pairs exquisitely with the music, taking you to the west coast immediately, and placing you within the world of the artists. Progressing through, I found this a little one note - loud, angry, dissonant, and a tad compositionally similar until track 7, by which time, felt desperately needed; it has the feeling that every song uses the same vocal and instrumental effects/reverb, which comes off as a little flat to me, particularly when paired with the album's length. I enjoyed the atmosphere and found many heightened moments, but saw little in the way of a sonic journey or arc across the record until the last three songs. Ultimately, I wanted more introspection on this album to compliment the rage, but found too little too late. Standouts: Ain't No Right, Obvious, Three Days, Then She Did..., Of Course

Not a big fan of JA, they were definitely doing something new before grunge exploded. Like reggae plus 80s rock but more heroin chic. It’s okay.

Ehh. I'm not a fan. I like some of their singles, but a lot of this just melds together as one big noise, and a bunch of tracks also annoyed me.

When I first heard Jane's Addiction, I realized I was an old man, and I instantly understood how old men before me must have felt about bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. I just didn't get it, and I still don't. They're not particularly talented (although I will admit that Dave Navarro is a great guitarist), most of their songs suck, and Perry Farrell's voice brings to mind a bratty teenager who is used to always getting his way. I feel similar about them as I do about Red Hot Chili Peppers. They're just not that great. 2 stars.

It sounds like a band trying to be taken more serious. Obviously, “Been Caught Stealing” is a standout track but I prefer the ten minute track “Three Days”. It really kept my attention. The rest of the tracks seem to lack direction and the lyrics are uninspired.

Bad vocals. Bad distorted guitar sounds besides the solos. Sounds like they’re all playing something different.

Ummm...I know I should like this but I just didn't dig it. Someone will be revoking my child of the 90s card.

Pas très endorphines friendly

force à Jane

'Been Caught Stealing' is a quite deecent classic that you'd hear at any 90s themed party. But there's not much more than that for me personally. I think one of the main gripes I have is that the singer mostly sounds like he's singing at his sonic capabilities all the time, like there's no dynamics - it's either on or off - and that makes it feel quite intense all the time in a not-so-good way. Also this is just not really my jam.

With its annoying voice and its G&R types of rifts, Jane's Addiction's album reminds me of a terrible punkish version of bad Suicidal Tendencies songs. This one wasn't for me.

just okay...didn't excite me as much.

This seemed less important than their other album. But I never expect Jane's addiction to be a wall of guitars the way this album is.

Nothing's Shocking was a far better album in my opinion - this one felt too screamy with a more forced concept. Could have been bumped up because the back half of the album was better, but my disappointment weighed on me from the beginning. Three Days stood out to me though, so I will at least be revisiting some portion of the album.

C+ Stop - 3 No One’s Leaving - 2 Ain’t No Right - 2 Obvious - 3 Been Caught Stealing - 2 Three Days - 3 Then She Did - 3 Of Course - 3 Classic Girl - 3 I'm not a huge fan of Jane's Addiction, as it turns out. However, this was pretty good. Better than I expected. Kind of like the first time you eat-

OK but not my sort of thing.

too rowdy for me

Although the opening song "Stop" might initially lead the listener to believe this record was going to be a strong follow-up to the revelatory (at the time it came out) Nothing's Shocking, Ritual De Lo Habitual is ultimately a disappointment. The album lacks focus and urgency in far too many songs. Sections meant to be hypnotic are just boring. Different parts feel phoned in by different players at different times. Is "Been Caught Stealing" a classic 90s song? Yeah, it is. But two or three good songs out of nine total doesn't make for an album we need to hear before we die. The smartest thing Jane's Addiction ever did was keep their sample size low after Nothing's Shocking because it turns out that the more records they made the more evidence of their mediocrity we had.

Hmmm. It‘s quite well aged for a pre-grunge piece. As a sort of music that is a dirty and sexy idiosyncrasy of rock it works real fine 2.4

I love Dave Navarro on Inkmaster 2.5/5

Nah 1.5/5

Not for me.

This was okay, but I think I just find Jane’s Addiction boring

Started off good but got too self-indulgent in the middle. Bleh.

Ehh it's fine

Oof. This was not good. The 2 famous songs, "Stop" and "Been Caught Stealing" are pretty good, but the rest of the album is downright awful.

I did not like this music. I can’t quite put my finger on why.

4/10. Vocals absolutely kill this album. Standard 90s (no inflection) vocals. Instrumentals were basic 90s punk sound. I understand the historic significance of this band.....but this just sounds awful.

not very good

Of course, I know of Jane’s Addiction, but had pretty much signed them off as ‘not my thing’. This was definitely an exercise in traversing peaks and troughs. The first three songs were a bit of an endurance test and I didn’t find much to latch onto. “Obvious “and “been caught stealing “were much better and I actively like the latter. It’s got a good hook. Then the back half just turned into a winding, meandering dry riverbed of songs, going on for miles but with no current or flow to carry me along. The themes were interesting and meaty and tragic but I didn’t feel those long, long solos did them any justice. Also, don’t rip off Ian Dury if you’re going to be so bad as to be insulting. One point each for the good songs.

Maybe I just wasn't in the right head space for this, but this is another album that failed to make much of an impression on me. Been Caught Stealin' is still cool. The rest of it came and went.

Lots wranging on the gutair followed by wailing vocals. It feels tired. I got tired listening.

Not my cup of sludge

Not a fan

Outside of Three Days, which to give them credit is amazing song, this was an annoying listen. Shrill vocals and the terrible late 80s early 90s hard rock aesthetics.

Couldn't really get into it

Did not know about these guys. Could have easily carried on that way

At the beginning I didn't hate it, but got pretty bored and annoyed with the songs later in the album until I eventually stopped listening.

I kind of liked this at the start, but it really starts to drag on from about track 6 onward.

Whiny Red Hot Chili Peppers

It was good, but would need another listen. It sounded all the same. Eh.

Not very memorable

It was okay there was a couple songs I enjoyed but largely I felt like it was the same thing over and over again

Dia 6.

Kind of bland, nasal funk rock. Some inspired, mostly not.

Definitely not my speed

the last half of the album is totally intended to be listened to on psychedelics would be a decent 3.5 if Perry Farrell's voice was just not how it is

Another one of these 90s rock albums. Being a kid of the 80s, I keep thinking that the 90s were a step in the wrong direction, but there you go. 2/5

I think I should state that I love Nothing Shocking, bought that album not long after was released on the insistence of a friend that worked at a record store. This album is a big disappointed for me, the first "rock" half I feel is weaker version of previous album. I never ever want to hear Bean Caught Stealing again, song isn't that good to begin with and was beaten to death. The 2nd half with the exception of Three Days is fairly tedious. The worse song being Of Course, sounds like a Beatles song if the fab 4 were lobotomized and feed sub lethal doses of alcohol and Quaaludes. 2.5 but I'm going to round down.

I remember going through the whole thing about being bummed when a cool band you like gets a mainstream hit. I still can’t abide Been Caught Stealing. But I do like Stop and Ain’t No Right is OK. But it ends there. Of Course is just tedious.

A couple of novelty hits. Stealing and Stop are fine if they come up in a playlist. Spent the rest of the album wanting to skip every track.

Lyrics might be meaningful, but this is the typical US rock band that just like (okay, those are worse) Green Day is utterly boring. Not all US guitar bands bands are, give me Pixies/Sonic Youth/Husker Du/Nirvana any day.

Not my cup of tea.

It's an album I bought at the time and struggled with then. It's one stand out tune and the rest is pretty mixed and feels a bit lazy.

Mediocre

Ummm... Tempted to give this a 1 except I do appreciate the experimentation on certain songs. Bad guitar solos. Bad singing. Not for me.

Listened to on 12/8/22 2/5 Favorite song: stop! I hate being yelled at and didn’t enjoy this album nor the whack ass album cover

I didn’t love this album. I enjoyed the first few tracks, but couldn’t get over the lyrics toward the later tracks. Juvenile, but not in an endearing way, to me at least. I was also fairly unimpressed by the instrumentals… rather relentless. “Three Days” feels like the standout, but only because it’s a break from the more relentless pace. Agree with the other reviewers… would have loved to see live, but as an album it feels a little tedious to get through.

Jane's Addiction is a band I have never listened to. I was kind of expecting a pretty shitty grungy sounding band (I have always conflated them with Alice in Chains), but this is a bit different than I was expecting. There is definitely a level of weirdness to them that I was not expecting and appreciate a bit. But maybe I'm having a hard time putting this in the proper context, but I just don't really care about this at all, and would not listen to it again.

Been Caught Stealing (banger) gives a false impression of what Jane's Addiction are about, because Ritual De Lo Habitual doesn't have enough of that stuff. It's all a bit weak for a supposed post-punk band, I want to like them but rarely do. 2/5.

Not sure about this, it's almost like two different albums in one. First half is pretty standard post-punk, except the music is all a bit too jolly. Nothing from it grabs me like 'Jane Says' did from the other album of theirs that we had. Been Caught Stealing is apparently their big hit from this album, but I don't think I can forgive it for starting with the dogs barking... Second half is completely different, it's quite prog-like, very long tracks, and much more introspective. If you could combine the two halves (literally blend them, not just stick one half in front of the other), then it might make for a decent album - as it is, the first half is too lightweight, and the second half is too faux-serious. 2/5.

Yep, also in camp "Nothing's Shocking" and for some reason never owned this one. Probably because it was on the radio too much, though oddly I actually really enjoyed hearing "Been Caught Stealing" again and that's not something I at all expected. As far as production goes, that song seems to jump out of the speakers from a sound standpoint in a way that none of the others do. It comes at a good time in the track sequence, too. I liked Side B better than Side A overall. But for a band intent on blending genres there's a lot of sameness to some of these tunes. I expected a bit more exploring, I guess. Where's this album's "Summertime Rolls"? At the end of the day, I'd rather listen to Faith No More.

Seems a lot more brittle and scattered than I remembered.

Never felt strongly about Jane's Addiction one way or the other, and this most recent listening didn't change that. I'd rather be listening to Faith No More.

I bought this album not long after it came out because everyone loved this album. I tried to like it then, but didn't. I tried to like it now, but I still don't.

Viel me alleszins mee. Ik was gewaarschuwd. Vond het nog best funky af en toe.

No mountain song. 2 stars and it's lucky to get that

not my shit.

Good drum work. Really liked Then She Did… and Classic Girl. Probably wouldn’t listen again.

Once again, this feels like an album that is only on here for one song, been caught stealing in this case. It's not a terrible song but it's not at the level of take on me for hunting high and low.

This is the stuff of butt-metal/rock. Is butt metal a term? It's like nu-metal-ish I guess. Anyways not a fan, it's competent but that's about it.

Its very familiar, and quite repetitive. But it's good soul-grooving material!

album generator try not to give me rock albums challenge (impossible). at least this has some energy to it. also just me or is this weird as fuck lol. bass is carrying. vocalist is annoying as fuck. i literally cannot stand this mfs voice. wish there was half stars on this site. i guess i can type it here. half way through and its getting a bit tedious. might have to be a 2 star. but slightly better than the other albums so far. this guys voice is giving me a headache though. maybe like a 2.3. i might start skipping songs now. rock vocalists try to carry a nice sounding melody challenge (impossible). rock vocalists have a nice sounding voice challenge (impossible). please give me something better tomorrow i beg of you website. okay im done. thats enough of that. next pls

Not really my thing. Frenetic. Again, sort of interesting for its time though.

Not my cup to tea. Low quality production… but that’s just my opinion.

Within its garage-band teenagers style, not a bad example, with some interesting takes. You need a certain mindset to fully appreciate its emotional content.

A decent assortment of musical ideas ("Stop!" and "Then She Did.." are pleasantly grand and bombastic) performed admirably by a capable band, unfortunately soiled by the steaming pile of doodoo that are some of the laziest lyrics ever sung by what sounds like Screetch from Saved by the Bell.

Maybe the most irritating voice in recording history. And I like The Crucifucks. I want Perry’s “my dad owns the rehearsal studio and the drums, so I get to be singer” confidence.

C'est correct. C'est loin d'être mauvais, mais c'Est loins d'être impressionnant. Radio friendly alt rock, rien de plus

2/5 not my cup of tea

vilken skit

jane's addiction would be a much better band without Perry's feral screeching.

This was meh for me. Some very good guitar soloing (you can see why RHCP added Dave Navarro for a bit) but the singing was insufferable. The worst parts of punk siniging for me. Also these songs did not have very good Melodie’s for the most part. I won’t listen again.

About halfway through, this album flipped from "inoffensive" to "annoying." I can't take more than about 10-15 minutes of this singer. Best track: Been Caught Stealing

I feel like I have heard a Jane's Addiction song before but I don't think it was on this album because I didn't really like any of the songs enough to make this one memorable.

First time of Listening to this Alt Metal offering. I can see why this is on the list, but can't honestly say I enjoyed it. Really get the attraction but only really drawn to "Of Course". A bit boring for me I'm afraid.

Nothing is lighting me on fire about this

Fails to keep me interested for more than a couple of minutes at a time.

Nije po mom ukusu. Ne volim bas taj hiperaktivni alternativni rock iz 90ih

Not my favorite, but I see why it’s popular. It has that pop grunge sound

Got some really vibin riffs and grooves, but to be honest if you've heard one track you've heard them all. 2/5 - Too much wailing

Screaming vocals, hackneyed guitars.

Franchement pas nul! Pas super bien non plus mais bon mieux que ce que je pensais Been caught stealing et Then She did... que j'avais déjà

Wasnt a fan

I feel like I should either like this album a good bit more than I do, or hate it a good bit more than I do. It feels like one of those albums that you either love or hate. I do my fair share of both (admittedly more of the former than the latter), but ultimately I feel pretty middle of the road about it. Most songs don't do anything for me, but a couple are decent and the instrumentals throughout aren't bad. Favorite Tracks: "Been Caught Stealing"

if Ask sees this we won mest välförtjänta 2/5 hitills

I surprisingly didn't get much out of this one, but I also didn't hate it. I knew of the band Jane's Addiction in name only and could not have told you any of their songs off the top of my head (though I did end up recognizing Been Caught Stealing). My only reason for knowing them is that their guitarist, Dave Navarro, had a brief and arguably unsuccessful stint as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. While I personally enjoy that RHCP era and feel some great songs came out of it, it was always evident that the change in members made the songs more dark and aggressive which is what I expected out of this JA album. It delivered on both of those fronts for the most part, but there were some things that held it back in my eyes. While I thought the instrumentals were strong overall, I was not a fan of the lead singer's voice at all. It reminded me of the vocalist for the Offspring in a bad way in that it didn't click with the overall tone they were going for IMO. I also thought that some of the songs here were unnecessarily long (there is almost no song in the world that is worth of 11 minutes unless your name is Meat Loaf). This helped make the whole album feel a bit forgettable in spite of some great guitar and drum work. I can see why this album would get a lot of respect as it feels ahead of its time by a few years, but I am personally not a big fan of it. 2.5/5.

Meh. 2

Was looking forward to this one, with The Rooster one of my favourties....but the rest of the alsum was crap!!! Sorry

Oh, I am not looking forward to this. I ha e never enjoyed this band. I usually can't get past one or two songs. We will see how I fare with an entire album. About half way through, not nearly as bad as I anticipated but I can't say I enjoy it.

The first half is ok, the bass lines are probably the most interesting component. The shift at the halfway point is enjoyable, but this album falls short of being anything more than mediocre. 5/10.

Ps. tykitellään. Avausraita hyvä, muutkin ihan jees.

Wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Lame

Only really liked the single from the album. not terrible to listen to though.

Didn't really kick me; Second half was depressing

Surprised to find another Jane's Addiction album on here. As I noted in my first review - unique sound, not necessarily special. This one is even a little weirder than the other - but Been Caught Stealing is the saving grace. If they had to produce this whole pile of an album just to deliver that song, then it was worth it. Still, 2.

Doesn't move me much, nothing really meets the high of Obvious, especially in the back half. Not the biggest fan of his voice either Saved: Obvious*, Been Caught Stealing

Except for the first song that is a hit, just basic

Not my scene

First Listen. This album is better when played loud. Standouts: Stop, Been Caught Stealing, Three Days 2/5

I hated listening to some of this album, but not all of it. I enjoyed some of the creative moments here and there.

5. Ritual De Lo Habitual - Janes Addiction. 9 tracks. It's ok and I enjoyed bits of it more than others, but it never really grabbed me or caught my attention. A bit meh! Not rubbish, but not something I want to tell everyone about either. 2/5.

It’s OK. I wouldn’t turn it on or up, but I wouldn’t turn it off.

Nota: 3/10

'Stop' is a FANTASTIC track - the guitar work is Navarro at his very best, and the rest of the band absolutely shines, as well. Unfortunately, from my perspective, the album blows its proverbial load right out of the door and never quite captures that same energetic infectiousness again. The next three tracks - No One Leaving, Ain't No Right, and Obvious - have this dull, uninspired, repetitive vibe. To be fair, 'Been Caught Stealing' is a welcome reprieve, and is a great song that will always remind me of GTA: San Andreas.

Songs are too busy, just generally not my thing

Some song felt whiny and edgy. Didn't care for most others.

Couldn't get into this album, I am not a fan of the vocalist. Been caught stealing was the only song I enjoyed.

unique sound

Fun. 2 really good songs.

Algunas canciones se salvan

kind of annoying sophomoric folky rock? can't quite recall

Just never get on with Jane’s addiction

Never been a fan. Don’t like Perry Farrell’s voice at all. The tunes are ok in terms of big rock music guitars etc, but I won’t be revisiting.

Not a massive fan. I know a couple of their tunes from video games and a TV show but that's about it.

I just don't like Jane's Addiction. boring and tuneless.

Ok. You can tell it came out halfway between cock rock and alternative

Over rated, though Stop and Been Caught Stealing are tunes

Didn't like it at all.

Nunca me gustaron mucho en su época y tampoco el siguiente grupo que crearon. Tienen buenas canciones y un Perry Farrel tiene una voz muy particular. Lo mejor de este disco "Been Caught Stealing".

I mean... its Janes Addiction. tight pants out of 5

I was just not a fan, this type of music just doesn’t do it for me

I suppose it was something when it came out. No real context for me, so no real rating.

Quite entertaining

Not a fan of this particular brand of gen x rock.

Contains too many callbacks to 80s hair metal to be enjoyable as a whole, especially the made-for-radio ballads on the back half. Still interesting to see the groundwork being laid for later progressive metal like The Mars Volta, At The Drive In, etc.

Didn't really get into it, pretty straight rock.

ja lekker punk niet heel speciaal

Hair metal for people who don’t want to admit they like hair metal.

God I hate this stupid faux-spiritual Los Angeles butt rock. This is like Guns’n’Roses or the Chili Peppers but pompous and masturbatory and devoid of anything fun. The figure in the center of the artwork (indeed, of the album) is a kid that Perry Ferrell had sex with. She died later on when she was 18. I think someone’s been sanitizing his reputation online; most search results treat Xiola’s life/death as simply part of Perry’s tragic origin story. At least one page glibly calls her his ‘muse’. He isn’t a poet and he sure as hell doesn’t need to get his hands on any muses. I’ve always hated everything I’ve heard from this band. That being said, I have nothing against Dave Navarro.

Jane’s crazy

No matter how hard I try, I can't get into this band. Or really anything Dave Navarro does

What a boring milquetoast album. Feels like the kind of music people would consider "hardcore" when they have no idea what hardcore actually is. Tinny production and a whiny vocalist put a nice bow on this generic record being entirely skippable

i can’t get past the singers voice. otherwise just feels so lacking depth, anything interesting really.

1/10… funk rock / grunge / *1990

Сара 1 Марко 1,5

Album cover is cool. Album is less cool.

The musicianship is mostly good but I cannot stand the singer. Growing up with pop punk and emo, I developed a high tolerance for nasally whine-singing but not high enough for this.

The vocals are just so weak and whiny it is really difficult to enjoy this. Aside from Been Caught Stealing and the strings on Of Course this a bit of a slog. The guitars are enjoyable and bit are reminiscent of mid career Chilli Peppers (not much surprise there) but lacks the personality they bring.

hard rock, punk, 1990 -> 1

Their second album. Alt Rock / Rock. Really fucking annoying vocals. Obvious is a fucking awful track ! The album is a mess and all over the place. I've been on a good run of albums for a few weeks. This one brought that to a crashing halt. In the words of Jane's Addiction... Stop ✋️

Särskilt hitten been caught steeling. Ett trumspel som inte gör någon glad, steloprerad basist, fjantig sång och hårdrocksgitarrsolon.

Everything I hate about the 80’s/90’s in one album. Why does the lead singer sound like a pitbull who got a gland expression at the vet. Jesus Christ this is one of the more annoying albums I’ve had to sit through yet. “Then she did” was the closet thing I got to enjoying a song. A cool prog rock track. The guitar work is okay for the most part here, but I cannot get over the whiny vocals. 10/10 never revisiting this again.

in a book of insulting, laughable inclusions, this has gotta be somewhere in the top 10. a SECOND Jane's addiction album? one that sounds like a collection of demos? that has been so thoroughly forgotten that today was the first time i was ever aware of it? get this shit out of my face

Painful.
