Good album. A solid 4
Somehow this band has always passed me by, despite liking many similar-sounding alternative 80s bands. Really dug this
Liked it, can definitely hear how influential this has been
jagged pop. i love this record.
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Dumb waiters, All of this and nothing
Vaguely familiar from my youth which featured New Wave of this era heavily. Rocks pretty hard in that laconic English way, the singing brushes the lower end of ability to a degree that you wonder at them getting away with it. But for this it works. Probably slightly overrating out of nostalgia.
Let's all get dressed up in some big old fur coats and eat a bunch of mushrooms.
I had forgotten how good some of the lesser-known songs were, like "No Tears" and Mister Jones". Overall the production is a bit sludgy with the instruments taking a back seat, so nothing distracts us from Richard Butler's raspy voice and lyrics about love, loss and alienation. There are a lot of catchy choruses here for one album! Between a 4 and a 5 for me.
new wave is so cool. I wish England was real
New Wave with a touch of Goth, or Goth with a touch of new wave. Either way works. Cracking album.
Pretty upbeat and fun, sounds just like the 80s era in this vein
Liked this one. Great stuff.
3.5
Great album! Not one I had listened to previously, but I am sure I will come back to it again. Hidden gem. 4/5
couple really good songs on this one. Always nice from a band you've never heard before.
Very easy to see all of the influences later punk bands would take from them.
Actually it's just called Talk Talk
Pretty good. Gets better with multiple listens as it can just slip into background noise. The lyrics can be silly and ridiculous, but somewhat fun or funny. And there are multiple tracks with some smooth saxophone, that I wish there was more of.
I love the Psychedelic Furs. Got a chance to see them play a few years back. This is not my favourite of their albums though. But still a good listen.
A SORPRESA album solido, si merita 4 stelle perchye' si potrei anceh aver voglia di risentirlo
I forget how much I like this band. A solid rock band with just the right amount of idiosyncratic touches to make them stand out from the rest of the 80s New Wavers. And anyone who loves Molly Ringwald loves this band.
Nice. Very of its time, but it’s got a good sound. It hit me better than The Jesus and Mary Chain.
3-4 Eher 4 weil mit Mr.Jones, Pretty in Pink, Dumb Waiter richtig gute Dinger drauf sind.
This was great. Loved it
I've never heard more than a handful of PF songs before today, in fact I'm more familiar with punk covers of their songs. This album was really good. I'll definitely go back to it and probably seek out more.
It's funny how some of the scenes emphasized on this list really annoy me (like 90s-00s Brit Pop), and some scenes I really enjoy. Post-punk is definitely one of the latter. I don't have a lot to say about this album that I haven't said about previous post-punk albums, but this album is really cool. More explicitly sexual subject matter than was often present in punk/post punk, which is neat. I don't love the singer's voice, but he makes it work 4/5
Being familiar with later hits of theirs, this was an interesting venture into their earlier stuff. Like a lot of 80s new wave bands I've listened to in this project, what we've gotten to hear is a bit rougher around the edges. Although I thought I knew a good selection of Psychedelic Furs songs, there weren't any tunes I knew, except a rougher version of "Pretty in Pink." As with many of these early career albums of 80s "modern rock," I was more interested in examining the band's journey than really enjoying the music.
Definitely more enjoyable than I imagined that it would be. Some bright and bouncy beats. Yeah, not bad.
Is there a better singer to enjoy spoofing as you sing? That slightly flat delivery in a home countries accent as we all sing Pretty in Pink. Jangly guitars, strident drums and that distinctive voice, Psychedelic Furs had something going on if a little of its time.
Cool. I like it.
Between being simple and extremely clever this raw guitar driven garage pop/rock proves to have aged VERY well. 3.9
What if David Bowie tried punk...?
Enjoyed! Punky
This was nice
Cool, je connaissais pas. Punk et 80's bon melange
This is a band I haven't spent a lot of time with this band but their music was better than i remember. I loved the mix of punk and new wave sounds.
"Dumb Waiters" was the best track on the album. I liked "Pretty In Pink" before the remastered version; oh well. "I Wanna Sleep With You" and "All of This and Nothing" were the standout tracks for me. The rest of the tracks all sort of morphed into one another and didn't jump out at me all that much. The Furs were big when I was in high school. I'd probably have liked them better if 2 of the 3 songs (Love My Way and Heartbreak Beat) that got regular airplay, had done more for me.
This post-punk record really emphasizes the punk aspect of that genre. The album was enjoyable the whole way through, but I felt like the second half was really where it started to shine. This album was recorded before the Psychedelic Furs incorporated more pop influences so its rock influences are front and center. The guitar and bass are driving and incorporate psychedelic, hard rock, and overtly punk elements to create something that sounds unique in post-punk.
I'm surprised i've never listened to The Furs before as their post-punk sound is right up my alley. Had a great time listening to this. All was new to me except for Pretty In Pink which i recognised instantly. Looking forward to hearing it again.
Butler is seriously underrated as a vocalist and frontman – he's got the essential indie rock voice. But the playing and instrumentation (especially some ace sax touches) and arrangements are all strong. "P in P" very much merited a movie named after it – what a hook, what a mix of the salty (Butler's sneering vocal) and sweet (the melody). "No Tears" and "She Is Mine" are also plus-plus tunes. A seriously underrated band, the Furs. Forever Now would also be worthy of inclusion on this list.
The combination of the slickness of new wave and the edginess of post punk is an interesting one. Heralds the dawn of a new decade.
Fantastic blend of post-punk/alt rock/new wave. More 'punk' than Talking Heads. Dumb Waiters is such a fun song
Not at all excited to see another UK album from 1981 but there’s actually a lot to like here. Building on the foundations, this is a kind of post-punk I can get behind. Curled lip attitude but with a bit of skill and craft going into it. I can hear a lot of other artists taking influence from these guys including: The Cult, Billy Bragg, The Libertines, Ride, Green Day and I’m sure many more.
The characteristic vocals, the saxophone, overall consistent and enjoyable song material: a nice surprise!
Like the vocals and style, doesn't excite too much overall however. 3.7
Well, they’re such a great band.
Truly a classic pop-punk-new-wave-whatever album. 4 stars.
A conservar!
7/10. I liked this.
Cool
One has always found Psyche Furs and Richard Butler to be pretty underrated. He's got a great – perhaps the essential post-punk voice, capable of both murderous sneering and tender vulnerability. "Pretty in Pink" is a wonderful melding of punk-light and sweet pop melodies (a combination this band well and truly mastered) and "She Is Mine" is right up one's alley, sweet and melancholic. They got way quality mileage out of the sax playing – these post-punk bands knew how to bring the brass and integrate it non-obviously and non-obnoxiously. The other cuts are mostly solid, if not major, and a 4 slightly flatters this effort, which one likes slightly less than Forever Now. But the 4 is worthy in the sense that all of their records were above average, ++ and under-appreciated. So there we are.
This whole album is incredibly 80’s, in a good way. Distinctive sound and fun to listen to. 4/5
Wowee wow wow, I was just listening to 'Pretty in Pink' right before this popped up! Magic! That song is pretty good, but the rest of the tracks kinda feel like inferior versions of it. I didn't know the movie was based on the song and not the other way around. I enjoyed the 'Pretty in Pink' remix collection and would give it a 3.5, but one song does not an album make! Highlights: 'Pretty in Pink', 'No Tears'
This is pretty great
Probably one of the weaker new wave albums on the list, but there's still a few solid tracks. It amuses me that the version on spotify has a 4-second-long "Early Version" of one of the songs, I don't think that is intentional. Favorite track: "All of This and Nothing"
There are a handful of good songs on here but I never really dig deeper that those. I owned this able for decades and rarely listened to it and Imupon relisten ot still seems largely not as interesting beyond a few songs.
Fun punkish alt rock vibes. I think it's what I expected them to sound like
The beginning was off to a strong start but I felt the middle was too repetitive and samey most of the time. Thankfully, towards the end I think they got their groove back and got it back up, very very solid album I enjoyed this and saved more than a few songs from this as well. If the middle was just a tad bit better this would be rated much higher, nonetheless a good album!
had zeker niet op de lijst gehoeven maar is best prima
Good, but not as good as Talk Talk
Good album, and it flows very well, need to listen to it again, but it was great overall
Buen álbum post punk, cositas góticas. Piolas canciones. Tiene el hit pretty in pink. Va bien, se disfruta. 6/10
It's fineeee. This is nothing that is too compelling to give much opinion on. Though the classic post-punk sound is always amazing to hear, it really does strike a chord with me. It's production is pretty good. The singer sounds like narrator on a show or a story book reader. I also found that a fair amount of the songs that end with 1-2 minutes of instrumental, which is peculiar (in a good way though.) This was alright, I suppose, nothing too exciting of course. Highlight Song/s: "Dumb Waiters"
19/06/2026 Nothing special here, nothing stood out. Sorry lads. Spotify listeners: 1.9 million
Cool sound. First time listening to this one. Sex Pistols vibes
3.5
It was just fine - nothing really to say because nothing really stood out in a positive or negative way to me.
Pretty cool, Dumb Waiters was my favorite I think.
Great song (you know), but just an okay album. I thought I would have liked it more.
Fun-ish
The most 3 star album I’ve listened to so far. Some good rock stuff, but nothing that stood out.
couple of nice instrumentals
Unremarkable. Replace this with Enya.
It was fun to give to, but overall sort of felt like one continuous song. Which I didn't mind for the first 45 mins, but 10 more mins of it didn't help.
I kind of didn't know who the Psychedelic Furs were when I stated to listen to this record. I was sort of afraid this was going to be another difficult early 80s English new wave garbage with moody lyrics over atonal synths. So this album came as a pleasant surprise. I'd be interested in hearing more from them at this point.
Good not great, listening to the entire album became repetitive.
Discordant post punk vibe with new wave melody.
Never taken much notice of this lot and no idea they were responsible for Pretty In Pink which is an excellent song and well worth the admission alone. The other stuff on the album is similar to that stand out track. It fits into the category of an album I like to shove on and play loud when having a shower before a night out or when I’m busy doing housework hoovering the carpets etc. Up beat music that you don’t need to think about at its best. 3/5 23/5/26
Peak 80’s. Like.
Not sure how I feel about this album. The band was good, I enjoyed a good amount of the music, I just wasn't crazy about the lead singer at all. Reminded me of some early The Cure work, but Robert Smith is a much superior lead man. We've all heard Pretty In Pink, which was obviously received much broader play in the States when the movie of the same name came out. Personally, I liked Mr. Jones and All of This and Nothing better than that track though. The rest of the album was just average to me. 3 stars.
Pretty cool record - dig the abundance of saxophone. Favourite tracks: Dumb Waiters, No Tears, Into You Like a Train.
Lil repetitive but fun still
Much more guitar-based rock sound than I anticipated. I like them, they’re tight with an accessible poppy sound. I didn’t realize “Pretty in Pink” came out in 1981, 5 years before the movie made it a huge hit stateside. It’s a good, fun listen, nothing to write home about.
Primeira música do álbum é ótima
It was alright
Pretty good for a UK Post Punk album from the 80's... 3.5 stars
Never really got this lot. Some friends whose taste in music I trust think they are great, but I’ve never heard anything by them that has made me want to investigate further. This was an opportunity to give them a fair try which I duly took. Sadly though, I struggled to find much that wasn’t blatantly derivative. 1981 seems like a weird time to be taking so much influence from John Lydon. Why weren’t they lambasted instead of being clutched to the bosom of US teen movie directors? The voice has a passing resemblance to Lydon, but it’s more the phrasing and the melodic turns than the tone and timbre. The music isn’t like The Pistols or PiL, it’s fairy plain post-punk with a Roxy sax that oddly doesn’t clash too much. The production is reasonably solid and the album has a consistency that ties it together well, but I felt inspired far too infrequently. The songs just didn’t have enough pulling power.
Not mad at this
The distinct graveliness of the singers voice has always given the Psychedelic their signature sound and feel. I was familiar with Pretty in Pink (who isn't?) and this album has a similar vibe to it throughout. A good representation of 80's new wave and alternative.
I really liked the songs pretty in pink and she is mine
Solid.
More garage punk which still isnt my bag but I can appreciate that it works for some people.
nice album. should listen to it more
Part of the Post-Punk New-Wave movement. This album contains the original 1981 version of the song "Pretty in Pink", (which the teen romantic comedy drama movie was named after). Apart from "Pretty in Pink", which I've always liked, the rest of the album is OK.
I enjoyed the one song I was already familiar with ("Pretty in Pink"), while the rest of the album was well-sung but repetitive
Fun to run to
Overall Rating - 3.10/5 (6.20/10). Nothing spectacular, nothing awful. Overall a solid album.
This was better than I imagined. The sort of post punk that has probably had a bit of an effect on modern artists that I quite like, like Idles and Fontaines. Not quite impactful enough on me for 4+ but was edging there.
it’s okay! I’m realizing I like this genre less than I thought I did
was alright for the listen Will I listen to again: 10%
A cool blend of new wave and punk.
Post punk/new wave/alt rock. Already know and like Pretty in Pink. Nothing mind-blowing here. Seems quite middle-of-the-road. Dumb Waiters was the only track of interest with that detuned riff. Best track - Dumb Waiters 3 stars
I really enjoyed this album! 7/10 Fav Tracks: Pretty In Pink Heard Before? ------ ❌ Saved a Song? ----- ✅ Saved Album? ------ ✅ Will Listen Again? --- ✅
Celkom príjemné počúvanie, ale nie vrchol 80` alternatívy...
Very cool album! With a touch o psychadelic pop/goth
average
When I think of the Psychedelic Furs, I put them in a similar category with other post punk rock groups of the early 80s like The Cure, New Order or The Smiths. I dated a girl in high school who was a big Furs fan and listening to this definitely brought me back to another time. That said, I don't know this album particularly well other than the song Pretty in Pink. It's their next album Forever Now and later releases that are more my speed. Listening to this felt like listening to a less polished version of the material I know. And I found a lot of sameness across many of the tracks. It occurred to me that the tempo of the songs didn't really change, so I pulled out a metronome and tested it. And as I suspected seven of the songs on the album clocked in at about 130 beats per minute, the other three at around 150. I also found the texture to be very similar across the album without a ton of variation. So when All of This and Nothing started with acoustic 12 string guitar, it was a very welcome change. Mr. Jones going into the next song Into You Like a Train sounds almost like two halves of the same song with the same tempo and same driving bass line. Additionally Richard Butler's voice doesn't sound great on this album -- he's doing this talking-singing hybrid that you don't really hear on later albums, which makes me wonder if he did that on purpose, or if he was sick during the sessions. I'm leaning toward the latter because Apple music includes the single version of Mr. Jones which sounds completely different -- the balance of the mix is much cleaner and his voice sounds markedly better. I like Pretty in Pink, and I feel like other songs could be growers for me, but I prefer the Furs later releases.
My first exposure to early post-punk, this project had me interested at first and then lost me a bit with the lack of risks or switch-ups, which I feel it was in need of. 1 listen Favorite Tracks: Dumb Waiters, Pretty In Pink
Expectation: -> The band name is familiar but I do not know why. After listening: -> Love My Way…that's it (though not on this album). Whenever I'm having an 80s night, Love My Way is a must play. I do not recognize any of this album but playing it still transports me to a different time and place. Like the vibe, that 80s pop/rock feel, that familiar voice. I am not muiscally inclined/talented but it seems the lead singer has a limited range, too much monotony. Nothing problematic or offensive here, nor special. None of these songs are a home run for me, keeping this album at a 3. Track ranking: Run Down Pink All Tears Jones Goes On Mine Train Dumb Sleep
This was pretty decent, definitely better than I expected
This has the sound of a 70’s album
ganz ok/nett, mehr fällt mir nicht dazu ein.
Medium Sound, nichts was es ausmacht
Like a lot of these new wave albums, we've got one amazing single and a bunch of forgettable non-singles. Just add Pretty In Pink and Love My Way to your 80s playlist and you're good.
This album was a strange mixture of 80s pop rock and a harder punk sound. I didn’t much care for the pop tracks, they were a bit generic and uninteresting, but I did enjoy when they leaned more into a punk rock sound. Some stuff to like here, but I don’t think I’d ever return to this band unless they did an all-punk record. 3/5
"I Wanna Sleep With You" reminds me of Bob Mortimer's songs on Last One Laughing UK but I don't mean that in a bad way. Mostly speak singing but I like it. There's just so much music! I can't imagine seeking this out again.
A horny album if ever there was one!
Quite a nice listen. Nothing earth shattering, but well produced and sounds a decade or two newer than it actually is. Good stuff.
(4/7) another long (but largely synthesizer-free) 80s journey
So this album was described as new wave, and it's okay. Music from the 80s, to me, tends to overuse synthesizers and can sound kind of cheesy sometimes, but I appreciate that this album didn't do that (real instruments for the win here). The singing style, however, employs that brit-pop spoken singing, which I'm not really a fan of. I gave it a second listen and enjoyed it more than the first listen, however. I like songs with dark tones and this had a good handful of those.
Solid 3. Nice sound and feel and I really liked No Tears and Pretty in Pink. Let down by being too samey all the way through, little to differentiate between the tracks.
son todas iguales pero al menos molan
Not bad.
Слова слова слова Прозвучали - и канули в Лету
Enjoyable - did not know it inspired the pretty in pink film, thought it was other way round…
Am I giving this a 3 just because of Pretty in Pink and all the nostalgia? Yes. Yes I am.
Ah, the classic sound of the '80s. "Pretty in Pink" is definitely essential, though I think "Love My Way" (not on this album) is moreso for me personally. I was a little young for the Furs' heyday but certainly enjoyed their inclusion in the films I grew up with. This sounds more punk than I would have expected, but by the time I started listening to punk the Furs were definitely not considered punk.
This fucking list is 50% brittish new wave from the 70/80s. Most of it is not bad, just boring with so little variety.
It's OK, but it'll never set the world alight with excitement.
Solid 3
It's fine, I guess. Very 80s sound, and done pretty well at that, just not very engaging otherwise.
good album overall
Doesn't have my favourite Furs songs, but is probably their most even album (although even "remastered" it still sounds pretty terrible.) I dig Richard Butler like I dig Jarvis Cocker: I wouldn't want either of them writing a song about me, but I very much enjoy hearing what they've written about other people, including themselves.
There’s a tense, almost unstable energy running through this album that I like. The textures do most of the heavy lifting, especially the way the instruments clash and overlap. It’s not intricate structurally, but it feels alive in a raw, slightly chaotic way.
I don't mind the Psychedelic Furs, but this is a mediocre album which is not even their best. Liked Songs Added: Dumb Waiters Pretty In Pink Mr. Jones She Is Mine
Not bad
The Psychedelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk - 3/5 Pretty solid record, and the post punk energy is definitely there, sharp guitars, moody vibe, and that cool detached swagger. It’s the kind of album that sounds great in the background of a late night drive or when you’re in a “stare out the window” mood. But it didn’t fully stick with me. A few tracks pop, but a lot of it blends together, and I’m not sure I’ll be actively reaching for it again.
More guitar oriented than I expected. I thought I knew the song pretty in pink but didn’t recognize it at all. In fact I looked at all their top songs and nothing was familiar. Maybe I only know the name from the movie but then I don’t think I ever watched that either. I thought these guys were more pet shop boys synth driven. After record ended recommended tracks started playing. Love my way is better than any song on this record.
A small cut above its new wave contemporaries. Post-punk with a pop approach to songwriting, which works for me. The production is muscular and not too sleek. Fun enough, but it didn’t stick to me. It’s too inert and uniform to really knock me over.
This was fine but not memorable
at the outset I got some vaporwave-ish vibes with a rock backing and it was hitting this real good sweet spot. But it turned into some weirdly generic British pop rock that didnt really stand out anywhere else. Not terrible, just a bit of whiplash of what to expect.
First song was exciting and interesting. Then it just gradually lost most of that over the course of the album. Not terrible overall though!
psychedelic furries
Pretty middle of the road post punk, with a little extra fuzz. Not bad Fav track: All of This & Nothing
Like it 3/5
Far better than most of what was being made at the time. 7.5 out of 10, yet I'm rounding down to 3 stars. (Four stars is fairly reserved.) (This project really ought to have 1: doesn't belong, 2: good, 3: better than most, 4: great; 5: amazing. If it did, I would put this in the 3 group, whereas most albums on here would be a 2.)
It was fine.
Estuvo bien, pero tampoco me mató.
Sounds like something a weird little rebellious teen would listen to. It's just okay.
Boring but fine
The tone of the voice is much like the Cure, but the rhythm and tone is more upbeat. I don't care for this kind of vocal. I like the synth work, though. And "So Run Down" is just great. 3/5
As far as the the endless new wave in this list goes, this wasn’t too bad I guess.
The Psychedelic Furs expand their post-punk sound, sprinkling in a bit of radio friendly new wave, on their album Talk Talk Talk. They also impacted pop culture by inspiring the film Pretty in Pink. Not a bad way to avoid the sophomore jinx!
Mid.
7/10
Enjoyable. I like New Wave and yet haven't listened to this one much before. At least, nothing beyond Pretty in Pink.
I’m familiar with Pretty in Pink from the film of the same name obvs, but never listened to any of their other stuff. If I had back in the 80s I probably would of quite liked it but it hasn’t aged particularly well and it’s not gonna be played again too often in the future!
Favorite Tracks: Pretty in Pink / All of This & Nothing / She Is Mine Rating: 3.4 Seems like I'm getting a LOT of early 80's music for only being about 50 albums into this thing? This week has been Prince Sign O' the Times, Japan, Ian Drury, now this all in a row. I'm synth'd out and talking in an exaggerated British accent. Ah well, I guess my goal was to listen to stuff I wouldn't normally. I like this alright, fairly upbeat post-punk with occasional horns. Drums all sound like they were recorded in an airport bathroom.
Good album with a couple of really great bangers
Some great stuff here, but the vocals generally didn't connect with me. I would come back to this and could see myself liking it a lot in the future
Interesting new wave sounds. Can absolutely see their influence.
the Psychedelic Furs were caught in one of the weirder transitional phases of rock music history; Talk Talk Talk, the band's second album, was released as post-punk was turning the corner into new wave and synthpop. it was produced by Steve Lillywhite, who would go on to make a lot of top-selling yawn with U2 in later years; he brings that same pillowy approach to the production here, where the guitars sound like they're in a different room from the rest of the band (I promise he's worked on records I love!). like U2, the Furs have a jangly pop-rock sound that's not strictly post-punk, but which evokes it by association. their singer is grumbly and nondescript; their saxophonist loves those obnoxious rock 'n' roll scoops, pitch bends from below that are way too over-exaggerated. the opening salvo of "Dumb Waiters" and "Pretty in Pink" is pretty good, but I straight-up don't remember the rest, and I just listened to it. to top it all off (and this is just a personal problem), the album's title evokes Talk Talk, one of my favorite bands in the world, who formed the same year it came out. decent 5/10.
Просто ок.
que
Very nice. This album feels like a question makr, but in a cool way (great description right). I love the guitar parts. Mr. Jones, It Goes On, and All of This and Nothing were my standouts. I'd maybe listen to it again. 6.9/10
Ok album. I liked a few tracks and found the album interesting from a musical standpoint, but the vocals became a bit tiresome by the end.
early punk transitioning to new wave
Not as into the punkier side of Psychedelic Furs, it turns out.
Enjoyable enough. Didn't stir me strongly one way or the other. Surprisingly modern-sounding for 1981.
Good stuff, albeit a bit samey. Nice to listen to on the background, I guess. 6.5 / 10
In another universe the Furs were massive. One of the great post punk voices. The band sounds OK and with a bit of production could have sounded great. The songs are mixed quality... one global hit, several strong songs and a stinker (just wanna sleep with you). Sounds like they're only just ditching the punk in favour of the mid-indie. With better production, better quality control and (Please!) less saxophone, this would be huge. Surprised that I've never listened to it all before... thank you to the organiser!
Not bad...the songs kind of blur into each other a bit, so it all comes off as a bit characterless. I reckon dressed up in a different set of arrangements and engineered with more clarity, this would be a cracking album - its just a shame i need to imagine that rather than hear it.
Decent listen only a couple of songs I would come back to tho
Do they want to be a poppier, rockier version of the Sex Pistols? Lacks the energy for it, and it's a bit monotonous, but at the same time there are some very listenable songs and Dumb Waiters is a great opener, the out-of-tune synth horns work for me. As an album, it's OK, no more.
I went into this expecting one thing and got a weird mix of styles instead. The tension between the instruments creates some really satisfying peaks every few minute, but the songwriting feels a bit hit-or-miss. It impresses like a late-night drive where you only remember a few specific turns. A struggling three. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Dumb Waiters - Pretty In Pink - She Is Mine
Olin kuullut Psychedelic Fursin musiikkia vain muutamissa elokuvissa. Talk Talk Talk on melko hyvä levy. Uuden aallon musiikkia jossa on hyviä pop-melodioita ja pidän Richard Butlerin karheasta äänestä. En oikein tiedä kuuluisiko tälle antaa kolme vai neljä tähteä.
Not bad for post-punk/new-wave.Some nice ideas. Best song: I Wanna Sleep With You.
нормалек, но бенгеров не найдено.
There are a lot of alt rock albums on this list and this one barely makes the par.
they rly did talk talk talk a lot in this album lol. i love the psychedelic furs but i didn't enjoy this that much. the lyrics are... something. the guitars are always a treat.
Not my thing again but would be cool for movie soundtracks or enjoyable live.
New wave? More like old crap.
Nothing stood out, just okay
Enjoyable enough but didn't grab me that strongly.
Of course, Pretty in Pink is great, but it felt like most other songs were just rehashes of the same material. Decent enough but not outstanding.
I like three Psychedelic Furs tracks, two are on here, the rest of the album is passable.
Cool
7.2/10
It's a decent post punk/new wave record but I don't really like the singer's voice and the songs didn't have much individual identity.
Couple of absolutely brilliant tracks - Pretty in Pink and She Is Mine - but overall I found it enjoyable but samey.
Listening to this album reminded me of many other albums that came out after it, did this inspire others? Or was this the sound at the time that everyone wanted to make? The opening track, is my favourite from the album
Sorry to say it, but that opening track was so annoying to me. The synth sounds out of tune. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it genuinely sounded like one of those anti-cat alarm devices you put by a pond. I thought the whole album was going to suck after that. Thankfully, it got a lot better. The second track, “Pretty In Pink,” almost feels like a David Bowie song, and that’s where the album finally clicks. My personal favorite is “Into You Like A Train,” which nails that 80s feel while still carrying some early punk attitude. Overall, it’s nothing special, but it has a few real highlights. There aren’t any truly bad songs besides the opener. 7.5/10
Ehhh doesn’t quite get me
It was nice enough, but it didn't engage me a whole lot Standouts Pretty In Pink 3/5
Would not buy
A bit smiths meets cure, but not as depressing
Solid album. good vibes, flowed well. Could hear that old English rock influence throughout it. Really enjoyed "Pretty in Pink", and "Into You Like a Train"
Liked a few songs, some of it wasn’t my thing. But pretty cool. 3/5
Fine. 3.5
This was a pretty solid album. The last demo track was kind of odd (almost a recap of the whole thing?). Dumb Waiters and Pretty in Pink were the best tracks
Några låtar var liksom bra och några helt ass, kändes som att det skulle vara bättre än vad det var. Inte heller helt min musiksmak och några låtar var alldeles för långa.
Pretty down the middle post punk new wave.
Plutôt du côté sympathique du punk.
It’s fine but not much sticking out
I liked it to start but everything felt the same by the end. Somehow "I Wanna Sleep With You" and "All of This and Nothing" reminded me of Dimebag Darrell riffs.
Pretty decent new wave, occasionally great, but those one-note vocals become quite grating over 45 minutes.
This is good, a great indie band. Somehow Into you like a train stayed with me as a strong track. Pretty in Pink is probably my least favourite track as it has been overplayed and the title is ultimately naff.
I was ready to hate on this album for being yet another generic release by yet another half-forgotten Brit band... but it kind of grew on me, and in the end I enjoyed it more than I expected. I found the balance between pop, punk and new wave elements quite enjoyable here, and I really liked the way they use the sax. Nothing memorable overall, it's a pure product of its time. I probably won't listen again, and I'm not sure it was really needed on this list - but it was quite all right for a one-time listen. 5/10
Why does the US insist on changing the tracklist for so many albums? The US version sounds so out of order, it's actually insane. No fault of the album itself, though. Nice music, nice tunes, I dig. Not much overly *special* though
Enjoyable album, just towards the end I felt like it was starting to sound the same.
I get the feeling that these guys aren't feeling this album. It's like the Happy Mondays, just a little more bored. The music itself isn't boring, but I'm really struggling to remember anything about this album other than the absolutely glorious saxophone bonus points it receives.
New Wave punk. It's pretty blah for my tastes. I neither liked nor disliked it. It slides far closer to a 2 than a 4. I can see why folks who enjoy this genre would dig the album, but it's just not my flavor.
Eep eep eep. I am soooo eeepyyy its 2 am god damn, but nice album ngl, aight goodnight
Fine, really need a list that's non-UK
If you’ve heard “Pretty in Pink,” then you’ve heard the rest of this album, too. Not terrible, but also not life changing. Inoffensive 80s music.
Unique sound to this album, could be good or bad depending on the vibe you're going for. I liked Dumb Waiters and Pretty in Pink. Overall, 6/10.
If I could give this negative stars I would
Lost a point for having saxaphone, but despite falling into that generic 80's new wave sound it evokes sticky bandroom floors and dark laneways more than bright neon.
Meh
I quite liked this album but nothing really stood out.
😎
Score elevated due to PRETTY IN PINK and ALL OF THIS AND NOTHING. Subtle Bowie-ness for what it’s worth.
Not bad, a little Bowie esque. Idk probably needs another listen, maybe I’m just latching onto the fact I know one of the songs.
Overall the sound of the album is good, it’s just that every song pretty much sounds the same. It starts to become really repetitive.
Oh man, it’s another quintessential middle of the road 3 star album. Going to have to pull something out of thin air to get a lengthier review for this one. Ok, let’s start with the basic things that I enjoyed. I love this singers voice. I’m also a sucker for a good brass section, so this album has that covered very well. The drummer works out great here, and you can really hear him banging the hell out of the drums. I did not dislike a single song on this album, but like many have said, they’re all tremendously similar and formulaic. However, I don’t take issue with the similarities here, because as a whole, I really like what this band has to offer. My favorite song on the album was the opener, “Dumb Waiters”. I loved the funky background elements of that one, they were very unique and hit my ears just right. That one was good enough to add to my frequent rotation. Humorously, I think the hit on this one, “Pretty In Pink”, while still good, isn’t one of the stronger songs on the album. I don’t quite understand why this one is rated as low as it is. Sure, it’s generic and doesn’t do anything particularly new or interesting, but I wouldn’t call this one boring or uninteresting because of that. Either way, I still enjoyed my day with this one and never thought of skipping anything here. Good stuff.
Favourite Songs: Mr. Jones All Of This And Nothing
OMFGGGGNFNFMNFNDNNDD PRETTY IN PIIIINKKKKK 💕💖💞💓💗💝💘 other than that i'm like ok! this is a band! lol!
50/50 good and bad songs
It's fine, nothing really stood out though. Not much to say about this. Mid 3.
Always saw this band’s tapes mixed in with my friend’s older siblings tapes back in the day. Not sure what’s psychedelic about it, although it’s good to finally hear it. Pretty cheesy with that damn saxophone, and very 80s. There are a few good tunes on here I guess.
Não sou muito do punk, mas esse com vibes meio new wave (me lembrou Devo) me agradaram até. Vou voltar pra catar umas coisas
I like it! Pos punk new wave. Sounds very vibrant and enjoyable to listening...three star and a wanna listen more...good choice!
A perfectly acceptable slice of post-punk. This is probably only really of note due to it containing Pretty in Pink as the rest of it did not really cut through…but solid enough.
Feel a little bit post punked out with the run of albums recently and this didn’t particularly stand out amongst them. Seems like the mixing could do with a bit of a remaster because to me it sounded quite muddy and not in a ‘wall of sound’ good way.
Pretty good, recognized the obvious, rest was decent. The lead singers voice got to be a little much by the end.
It was only ok, I got about halfway through before getting bored
Okay, slightly different than what I expected. When I saw new wave, I was ready for more synths, overly reverbed vocals and pop cliches. But maybe this is more of the post-punk sound, with more punk than many that fall into this category. Very catchy opening track and came to actually quite like the dissonant, wince inducing hook. Ah ok, maybe I spoke too soon and got the new wave element before long 😕 usual reaction of just a bit urgh and unappealing. Although these have a few more rough edges than most, which I like. Maybe I’m getting more casual as I get through the list but got the gist, it’s okay, won’t finish it all. 3 stars
Loved the first song. The rest was fine. Some songs felt unbearably long, but everything was vaguely catchy at least. I think I was expecting a little more from The Psychedelic Furs given how influential they are. It’s very 80s, not in a bad way, just not particularly groundbreaking. I enjoyed it well enough, but it’s not going to be on heavy rotation for me.
I typically don’t like british post-punk stuff like this, but this one was okay. Musically it was pretty good. Singer’s voice is a tad monotonous and doesn’t vary much but it works in this case. Not bad. Standout Songs: Pretty In Pink No Tears Mr. Jones All of This and Nothing
nice album one big hit. distinctive voice and sound
I don’t really know what to say about this one. It’s ok. I don’t see myself coming back to it, but it’s not terrible. I like some of the guitars (they sound like early Cure at points). I just don’t think I could handle 53 minutes of it again, cause it gets a little old, I think mostly due to the vocals. Pretty In Pink is a decent song. 3/5
Nostalgia: 4+ Actual Enjoyment: 2.5
Liked it more than I thought. More crunch to the guitars than I was expecting. Wasn't perfect but listenable.
Not bad but probably won’t revisit
It really is kinda unfortunate, I wanted to like this more! It starts off really strong, but then after that it just starts blurring together for the most part.
I wish this was better than it is. I love the song Love My Way but this is very samey. Adored the song All of This and Nothing but otherwise I don't think I could distinguish any of these tunes from each other.
Me gustó en su día, pero a día de hoy suena monótono y superado.
I’m stoned and I can’t think of a thing to say about this album sorry but it’s good
Production is interesting off the bat. Saxophones and phaser guitars? Pretty In Pink I’ve heard. Great track. Again the production is interesting, organs, shimmery chimes, duelling hard panned guitars. I just want to sleep with you - creep Vocals get pretty grating listening to a full record. One-note (literally sometimes) Some catchy tunes! It Goes On The production was really interesting (psychedelic, even), and there is some solid songwriting here, albeit a bit obfuscated by the vocals for me. I enjoyed the listen but don’t think I’ll be coming back.
didnt hate it. Love my way is their only banger song so far and its not on this one tho. Low 3
особо ничего выделить не могу, средний альбом, ничем не запомнился, вообще. звучит просто неплохо. максимум - 3.
Decent post punk effort
Þetta náði engum hæðum hjá mér. Ekkert hræðilegt samt.
Good early 80s angular pop sound, easy listen, but why’s it on this list?
avant guard...for a while
Pretty decent, an interesting bridge between the 70s and 80s. High 3, but close to 4 territory.
Raw, fun but slightly samey
New wave stuff. Decent. Wasn’t yearning for more. But worthy of 3.
Pretty good album. I liked it better the second time. Seems a bit like a combination of punk and new wave.
Really nice aggressive tone across this record. For 1980 it sounds way ahead of its time Good
Can’t deny that voice. Little too much sax for me but a cool record for the most part.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would!
A nice nostalgia trip. Not sure I've ever listened to the whole album. Would give it a 3.5 if I could- would not kick it out of my CD player
Very of its time and a bit boring.
Can’t remember
Very strong opening, but gets pretty repetitive quite quickly.
sounds like your average 80s british pop, nothing super excels here but nothing is bad either. feels like a baseline for what should or shouldn't be on this list. 3/5
Not bad
Enjoyable album and good for a run. Will have to listen again to get a better feel.
3.5
Not bad. I always like hearing "Pretty in Pink", but it feels weird not hearing it in the context of the movie soundtrack. An easily enjoyable album.
It's okay. Nothing too interesting, but not a bad album either. 3/5 Probably won't listen again
Fun listen. Some songs are more punk. Some parts remind me of REM or other 80's bands. I'd never heard "Pretty in Pink" but I'm not surprised it's the stand-out song - it's catchy.
I recognized and liked the first two songs. After that they began to blend together. Not bad just samey.
This is the band playing in every bar scene from movies in the early 80s.
I dont get it and I dont think I want too
It was fine
Yep. This is 80s British new wave. I couldn’t identify a single song, but it wasn’t bad or hard to listen to.
Almost good. Something about is preventing me from liking this :(
Favorite tracks: I Wanna Sleep With You, Mr Jones
Meh. It's fine but like.... nothing special. It's short enough and yet still couldn't keep me entertained. But it's New Wave and I like that? It's just not something I'd go out of my way to listen to again. Cool 80s saxophone though!
An early ‘80s classic. Post-punk meets new wave and pop and Richard Butler’s very distinctive voice.
6/10
It really does all sound the same sometimes, doesn't it? Not bad, not good ... just eh
5.5/10
This is #day405 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… in the context of '80s New Wave, I've always felt a bit indifferent toward this band. Same goes for OMD, I guess... I never explored these bands beyond a couple of songs. I will have to eventually, now that I'm on this journey, right? "Pretty in Pink" is the obvious highlight here. The rest is decent, but nothing that really sticks. I doubt I'll be coming back. Let it be a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day406.
No, not for me. Inoffensive, but no.
Not as bad as I thought based on a different furs album I listened to. It has that upbeat new wave sound that I like. 3.5
Decent 80s album. 3/5
6/10
British pop rock. Not too bad but forgettable.
General thoughts: On a first listen it sounded good, the sound is like the perfect pick for 90s teenager movie soundtrack, kinda pop-punk the singer's voice is fitting, everything else is decent four songs in and you notice the general structure is repeating the songs feel very similar and eventually tire out if you listen to the whole album trough it’s like they have a formula and they’re trying to replicate it all the way i imagine this was a hit on the radio, but as an album it’s just okay Outstanding song(s): Pretty in pink, No tears Weakest song(s): I wanna sleep with you Cover: Simple, but I like the aesthetic Real rating: 3.45
Decent brit rock
High quality, easy to listen, but quite mild and kind of uneventful. A lot less psychedelic than the band name would suggest
very same sounding after (and even during) the first 2 songs Tracks to Track: Pretty in Pink, Dumb Waiters
Eh
Lame and generic sound
